The Hill of Crosses in Lithuania is a significant site for Christians and a symbol of peace that has over 100,000 crosses planted on it. This folk art fantasy began during the 1831 Uprising and became more prominent in the 1960s as an act of defiance against Soviet rule which was anti-religious. The locals would sneak to the hill at night to plant crosses, much to the annoyance of their oppressors.
So incredible. Crosses on crosses on crosses. A true symbol of resilience regardless of one's religion. The Soviets destroyed the hill 4 times in 40 years, but after each attempt, people came back and started placing crosses again.

Out of the way place in Lithuania but a short drive from where we were staying in Riga, Latvia. When you look at all of the crosses, you can see so many stories that are surely captured here. Highly recommend visiting this gem.

Interesting place on the way from Riga to Vilnius or Klaipeda. Without having the emotional bond to the background of these crosses, it's okay to see but not worth a trip on its own (a stop/small detour is worth it).

As a Catholic I always appreciate to visit a pilgrimage places, and this one is one of my bucket list, perfect place for the crosses, we are from Finland and we travel to Estonia, Latvia and here in Siulai in Lithuania, we arrived early so there not so much tourist and it is better tho, BTW we visited month of August. You better visit early morning before tourist flock to the place, it's just amazing how many crosses and people travel from different countries with their prayers of their beloved who already departed from this world. I just keep my FAITH BURNING! This is free to visit, you can only pay for the parking and toilet! And maybe but some souvenirs as well to bring home with you❤️

This monument is located on a decent-sized hill with absolutely every square inch covered in multiple wooden crosses, but for a single pathway which snakes up to the top.
If you’re driving around Lithuania this is one of the more notable roadside attractions, and well worth a slight diversion to see it

Hill of Crosses in Lithuania
Visited on 2/10/2019
It may be a site of pilgrimage, but I do have a mixed feeling about it.
There is plenty of car park, and no entrance fee. After passing the entrance of a big thick wall is immense area of lustrous green fields on both sides of the brick pave path.
It is quite a fair walk to the hill where the crosses are. The hill has gentle slope, an it is not wheelchair friendly.
According to a source, "Poles and Lithuanians unsuccessfully rebelled against Russian authorities in 1831 and 1863. These two uprisings are connected with the beginnings of the hill: as families could not locate bodies of perished rebels, they started putting up symbolic crosses at the site of a former hill fort."
I do not think I like to visit this place alone or in the evening. It is rather eerie for my liking. Although it is called the Hill of Crosses, there are some big statues as well.
When Pope John Paul II visited the Hill of Crosses, he declared it a place for hope, peace, love and sacrifice.
On a very serious note, I consider this place is a fire hazard. Most of the crosses are small and wooden, simply and randomly pegged into the soil very close to each other. In fact, it is very messy and unsightly to say the least. The management should seriously consider taking necessary precaution to prevent malicious fire bugs or lightning strike to start a fire.

This is one of those spot in middle of nowhere which will very surprise you. I can very recommend it. Scary but interesting. You can buy here your own cross( many types in offer) and you can leave it in this hill of crosses. Land around reminds me Montana in USA. Kind of farms land…

Unusual and unexpected attraction. Hill of Crosses is a site of pilgrimage where crosses were placed on the site to commemorate the victims of the Lithuanians and Poles rebellion against Russian authorities in 1831, as many families could not locate the bodies of fallen rebels. Haunting and grim sentiment. Worth a visit

It's somewhere to go to say you've been. But what's in the photos is what's there. Takes maybe 25 minutes to Generously explore, but there is also a Franciscan monastery to visit too. We drove (from Riga) 2 1/2 hours for less than a half hour visit. Would recommend tagging in on to another visit or trip

Definitely worth a stop! This historic gem offers hours of exploration. No tickets required, and I found parking easily outside the main lot. Dive into its backstory before visiting, and you might not even need a guide. A self-paced journey through time.

A beautiful place of memories, meditation, history, reverence and Crosses. It’s a never ending experience for anyone who visits this place. You never forget about it because you leave a cross and your intentions with the hope for miracles 😇
If you are planning to take buses, then it is a short walking distance from the bus stop at the junction.

Large Car park with visitor centre and toilets, able to buy trinkets to keep and a cross to put on the hill. Read into the history before coming. Pedestrian access via a long wide pathway before reaching the hill. The top part of the hill is only accessible by steps. Although the base is flat so disabled people can get round.
Mike Hollis — Google review
You can park at the souvenir/information place for 0,90€ (for car), but if you follow the road you can park for free even closer to the hill.😉
Beatiful place. The number of crosses will probably be around 200000 now, the previous number was from 2006.
Kind of busy in summer, but still manageable.
You can feel the strength of religious human race contributing to this monument. Each cross might have its own story.

Very beautiful spot that is worth the trip. The hill of crosses dates Bach many years and with the crosses you see it shows. Approximately 200,000 crosses are present and many more added daily. There are paths to walk and some have some music and talking wired into the area. Again, take ur time and observe everything. The pope blessed the area in the 90’s.

Such a beautiful location to visit with rich history, no tickets needed but a guide would have been lovely to bring along with us. There's a wonderful tradition where those who visit can leave their own crosses, there's an information centre nearby which sells some but we came after hours and just about missed it.

This site is a very unique place with uncertain history. Over 100,000 crosses are here. The Soviet Union attempted to destroy the place several times with bulldozers and burning it. Burnt crosses can still be seen on the hill. The Lithuanians kept rebuilding the place at night. It became most famous after Pope John Paul II visited in 1993. He thanked the Lithuanians for their testimony to the world of their faith. He left monuments with the 1993 date of his visit. People may place their own cross without a permit if the cross is less than 3 meters in height. Some have said the site is scary. I did not find it so. It was solemn and unique. In a few places, music played. Since July 7, 2000, there has been a Franciscan Monastery 300 meters from the hill. Although it was a distance, I thought this was a worthwhile visit.

There is no public transport directly go from Šiaulai bus station to the Hill of Cross so I would recommend to go by bolt (around €10-12). It is really worth a go in terms of the historical meaning if
you come to Lithuania. It is a open space with over 100,000 crosses.

Very interesting place to visit. From the front, it doesn't look too big, but once you climb the first hill, you will see the how large this place is and how many crosses there are! Very humbling experience. We went on Saturday in March and there was only handful of people. The toilets cost €1 and are spotlessly clean.

The Hill of Crosses is my favorite place in Lithuania. It nourishes my soul when I visit there. This recent visit is my third actually. The hill is not just about the crosses but more so about the history behind it. There used to be more crosses before. We visited in 2014, 2016 and this October 2023. I read that there had been fire on the hill a few years back and last year too so I guess that explains why there are less crosses now.

The lights festival "Alisa in wonderland" was very worth visiting, it is quite a huge and spacious place with a lot of different sculptures. Good for families and pet friendly. Lots of parking slots near the manor. Evening hours are full of people. Several places for eating, attractions for children. Restaurants were not very organized, full of people, mixing people in the queue, leaving, etc.

I went there to experience "the ways of the moon" (I believe that is a correct translations). Honestly it was great evening: you get to experience modern art installations in traditional Lithuanian Manor which expresses magic of the past with traditional food and drinks being served in the Manor. It shows the old purpose of this Manor and also kept it's most unique pharmacy and traditional alcoholic beverage facility. You can also purchase this unique traditional beverage in the Manor as long as you get there before 8pm.
The modern art installations were quite magical in itself, it felt like a stroll through a magical harsh winter forest with different fairytale creatures creeping on you. Honestly lovely experience and I do recommend this experience for everyone!

I think Its okay... I think this place really shines during the start of winter, with the chinese event. Other then that, during spring, summer, autumn, I think Its not worth checking out. Small selection of food, the souvenirs are a bit overpriced, but Its expected. Whoever put and made "grandmas tea" for the menu, Is a legend. This tea works better then any energy drink, will make any grandma jump off they're wheelchairs.

Excellent place to spend time with the whole family. It is a very beautiful place. The experience is enhanced by the classic music gently floating around as you walk. There are some animals, horse-drawn carriage, antique cars are driving around. There's a whole section of the garden dedicated to kids. Really enjoyed the visit!

Amazing place, well maintained. Large, nice park with lots of space to walk and enjoy the landscape and decorations. Manor itself in very good condition. We visited this place yesterday during our trip to Lithuania. I went with my partner and his dad, who both are Lithuanians. I am a student from the UK, so my partner asked for two adult tickets for himself and his dad and one student ticket for me. I also repeated to the lady who was selling the tickets that I am a student, but she did not ask to see my student ID. Instead, the lady on the main entrance put through an order of three adult tickets without informing us that she had done so. She only told us the total value of the three tickets. Trusting that the lady had issued the correct tickets, my boyfriend paid the total value of the tickets on his bank card. When the tickets were printed out, he noticed that he had paid for three adult tickets. He asked the lady why she didn't put through 2x adult tickets and 1x student ticket, and asked for one adult ticket to be exchanged for one student student. However, the lady at the entrance refused to issue a refund and claimed that a refund or exchange isn't possible because a card transaction was used rather than a cash transaction. We didn't get our money back even though we had asked for one student ticket. It was an absolute con and I wouldn't recommend this place due to its poor customer service.

Most interesting basketball museum in Lithuania. My friend and I had a wonderful time listening to the owner's stories and the guided tour he gave. Such a magical place. Be mindful though, you need to call / email them ahead to be let in. The owner takes photos during the tour. All in all perfect if you're interested in the history of Lithuanian (and some international) basketball.

The museum is located behind a door inside a sports club. Even though it says is open, it really is not. It was the first butterfly house we visit in our life and the first opinion was that it is too small and old, but we saw a lot of butterflies inside. Different colors and sizes. After this butterfly house we are visited other in different European cities which was bigger and more expensive, but, all those other houses have only more space, but no more butterflies, even less that this butterfly house in Latvia. Recommended! P.S. time of our visit was end of July.

Amazing variety of butterflies. It's in the title. Big, small, brown, blue, red and green - virtually any colour.
Large parking lot. There's bathroom available. Coffee and chocolate dispenser.

Visited this place after having a walk around the amazing Tervetes park. I must say that it has more potentional, but in the same time I am not saying it was bad! I think it is still great fun for the kids to see but it could be little bit cleaner inside.

Kids loved it and adults as well. Butterflies are not the only exotic animals, they are accompanied by water turtles, canary, geckos and few others.

We loved it. The host was marvelous - exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, lively and engaging. Told us a lot about butterflies, their lifecycle, habits and hardships. Recommend to drop by, maybe more fun for nature loving adults than children. Go and see it, they reopen around Easter. ❤️🦋🐢

Family-focused park with paths through old-growth pines & sculptures based on Latvian fairy tales.
Wonderful place! There are so many interesting unusual objects, I like the witch's house the most. And dwarf's village is so adorable!
Also, one day seems to be not enough to walk around the whole territory and to get to every attraction.
There is a cafe in the park with good food and delicious tea. You can also by some tea as well as some souvenirs.
Entrance is free for Ukrainian citizens.
Valeria Honcharova — Google review
This is probably the best park for family I've saw. If you have family or just curious one, like tales and mythology it's the right place. So many things to see there, small dwarf city, many sculptures. Also there's alot of toilets and few places to eat while on hike. If you visit Latvia, you must visit that place

Tērvete Nature Park is family-friendly tourist destinations. Lies within easy reach, just about 70 km from Riga or from Lithuania because it is just on the border. The park, offering walking trails and children’s playgrounds, all surrounded by fairytale characters and over 100 wooden scoulptures of animals and insects, is recognised as a European Destination of Excellence by the EDEN project. It is truly a fantastic place to spend a whole day out with your family!
There are souvenir shops, zipline, trails on high in the trees securet with harnests afcorse, small animals zoo and train for visiting park on the weels :)
There is not enough time to visit all the park in one day!

Nice and huge park. Better take a bicycle and plan the whole day to walk through the all paths.
Deniss B. — Google review
Very interesting place in the middle of the woods to spend a day with your kids.
Our 6 years old did not want to live due to multiple possibilities to spend an energy outside.
Everything that you see is made from wood, every detail is deeply thought about.
You can take bikes as area is huge and difficult to walk with small kids, also you can take a small kids wooden box with wheels and carry them and bags by yourself ( a bit exhausting) on a forest trails and up and down slopes and stairs.
But you need to go there if you in Latvia !
I never so something like this anywhere in the world.
A lot of small houses and endless amount of dwarfs, their houses and mushrooms, everything made from real trees.
There a huge free to attend course with obstacles, tower to look from a top over an area, etc.
Highly recommended!!!

Great to visit with small kids. My kids are 2 and 4 years old. They had a lot of fun in the dwarf houses. Small zoo also available for extra price. I liked the andatras the most.
Antanas Prušinskas — Google review
A very beautiful place, but… we were with the baby and a stroller and we missed information about the paths to go. Some of them were too complicated to go. All the paths are gravel and some of them are way too hursh. Around the visitors we heard that it was really hard to orientate and we can confirm it. To sum up, it is worth visiting.
Gediminas — Google review
It's a very fun place to walk around, but I didn't like the paper map. It's impossible to orrientate. I really liked that dwarf city.
Matas Baltrimavičius — Google review
One of the best if not THE best place in Latvia to experience. Gnomeland at it's best. Get yourself and your children ( if you have any) to see this place. Probably, summer will be more favourable since a lot of attractions are best in the warm season. Cannot really describe all of it, but it is well worth the time and money. Seriously.
Max — Google review
Great place for hiking with kids, be ready to spend around 4 hours if You want to visit every corner of the park. They have a huge watch tower You can get up and see nearby area. Some play grounds for kids to play around and rest after good walk. They do have a couple restaurants- one by the entrance and couple more inside the park- to have a meal if You did not bring Your own . The pricing is not too big if You are a 5 peron family than the family ticket is 15.5€

Restored 18th century baroque castle with ornamental gardens & museum showcasing palace history.
I would like to give all stars possible sadly can give only 5.
Rundāles Palace is amazing, must see if you're visiting Latvia, or just an ordinary latvian. Take a tour guide you won't be disappointed.
Rose garden and occasional garden events are amazing too. They have tour 'train' now which is great option added in order to have an insight of the historical events and other garden related scenes for just a 3€ for 20min ride, I would also recommend it.
Go get this done ASAP.
Adding only garden photos this time.

We spent about 1h in the gardens and 1h30 in the castle (quick visit, you can spent much more time if you read all the information), so 2h30 would be the minimum to plan.
There was an event preparing in the garden so chairs and a stage were on the way, but I think it is cool to have events in such a place.
There are many rooms in the castle, all magnificently decorated. We just missed a map to know all what there is to see and to be sure to see everything, because I think we missed some parts because we did not find the way…

Worth a trip! Frankly, I was a bit sceptical about driving all the way here from Riga, but I am glad I came here. The scale of this palace is bigger than I thought, and there is a lot to see and enjoy.
The digital guide which we connect to our phone was really useful, and it helped me understand each of the room better. We would need at least 2-3 hours to tour around the whole palace and have a coffee or lunch in its cafeteria downstairs.
The only thing that kind of bothered was the way to the palace was all very muddy, and I hope they improve on this.

It’s a great place and one of must go places in Latvia during the visit. Unfortunately we didn’t get garden the garden during the flowering. Ticket room is located in very hidden place, almost every 2nd group was asking where to buy tickets. Hopefully there is possibility to buy tickets online. Price is 11.70€/person for palace and garden visit. Kids till 7 is free to enter. Also it was possible to listen digital guide through website. Recommended place. It was our first but not last visit.

Beautiful downtown church with a blue and white exterior and a pink and blue heavily decorated interior.
When I visited on a Friday, the church was completely open and free to look around.

Extremely beautiful temple - inside and outside! It's also nice that they let you take pictures inside, which I could not in others!!...

Next to the palace in Jelgava, one of the most beautiful places in this city

Beautiful orthodox church on the way from the railway station to the city centre
Nikolas Belalis — Google review
This Cathedral has a divinely charming exterior and a simple, not "too sophisticated", but yet almost unworldy interior. Visiting this church and especially watching the liturgies and services would be a great cultural and spiritual experience.
Sergejs Ivanovs — Google review
Best Orthodox cathedral I've seen so far. It's a like a bit of Santorini transferred to the cold lands of Latvia. The inside is very peaceful. There are icons of different saints with Cyrillic inscriptions.
Antonio De Iasio — Google review
Quaint yet beautiful church. I watched a group baptism.
Gorgeous building with an even better interior. It has two floors, as the first one mainly focuses on the history of Jelgava, while the second has art exhibitions. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed because there little to no information in English on the first floor... I am really into history and I would've loved to learn more about the town. The art on the second floor truly blew me away, amazing paintings and beautiful exhibitions. Sadly, I couldn't visit the upper floors because they're closed in the winter (as are most things in Latvia...) but overall, I liked it, it was an enlightening experience.
Veronika К. — Google review
Interesting museum - but the content is mostly for latvians, since they have specific expositions that only latvians (and also - not all) can relate to.
Artis Spert?ls — Google review
Very nice museum to get an overview of the history of the region and see some nice paintings. More displays in English would be appreciated.
Filipe Gouveia — Google review
We loved paintings of Ģederts Eliass, but everything else seemed a little dull because without reading a lot it wasn't possible to understand the context. Only arriving on the spot we learned that the tower is only open during summertime, it wasn't mentioned on the website.
Maija Skripste — Google review
The staff follow you around, interesting but needs more information in English for international tourists.
A historic symbol of unity and freedom. The Church of the Trinity destroyed by the Russians in the mid 1950's. They kept the 13th century tower to use for military action. Now a museum where you can traverse to the 9th floor and view Jelgava. Weddings are held there. Three today on Friday. The 8th floor has a restaurant where I plan to have dinner before getting the train back to Riga. The other floors are museum displays. One on the folk songs of Latvia, another on the needle work, common dress and basket making. the history from prehistoric times was also told with information about an archaeological dig that was held at the tower. All of this for 1 euro for seniors 2.50 euro for adults. I do not recommend for children except for very short stays not very much to hold their attention.
Lorna O. Davison — Google review
Not much to see there! The digital expositions are just ok. The view of the city at the top is not any great as the metal structure and the glasses disturb the view. Pictures are not worth up there, as you can see in one of my pics. Just the outside view of the tower is interesting.
Paulo Vieira — Google review
I enjoyed my time here very much. I knew nothing about Jelgava before, now I see it differently. The museum is modern and definitely worth a visit.
Donatas Žvirblis — Google review
Lovely place for a nice view from the top... very impressive history of the costume video installation and many more
Olga Fedox — Google review
I didn't expect this place to be so interesting! There are only 4 floors of thd tower open but each floor has a room with something interesting to find out. There is a floor dedicated to the city history, the church and Jelgava fashion. The 9th floor is a cosy place made of glass where you can seat and enjoy the view of the city.
The 8th floor is the restaurant.
The entrance fee for adults is 2.50€. There is WC and the elevator.
Do spend some time in each room: it's worth it, especially the fashion room. They show a short video about fashion changing through the years.
Recommended for visiting 💯%
Julia Maakar — Google review
You can go all the way up and see Jelgava from above. There are interesting and interactive exhibitions - perhaps some are more fitting for children rather than adults - on several floors about Jelgava. The fashion one was my favourite. There is a lift and a toilet there. Only downside was the heat on the observation deck… It was crazy hot there 🥵
Petra Holland — Google review
An interesting historical place in the middle of Jelgava.
The tower can be reached by elevator and at the very top of the tower is an art gallery, which this time had an exhibition of wall rugs.
Below the gallery is a very charming little restaurant.
The restaurant had good and cheerful service.
Unfortunately, the meals did not live up to expectations. The steaks we ordered were really dry and tough.
In any case, it's worth going to the tower to look at the art and views of the city.
Tapani Teittinen — Google review
My experience with this restaurant is excellent. Just the fact that its entire area is very small, up to 5 tables. The view is quite nice of the city. And the food is simply excellent - both in taste and quality. You can eat very well for up to €50.
Edgars Jonaitis — Google review
Beautifully renovated tower. On the top you can oversee the whole city through the glass roof. On some levels exhibitions. While on the level with clocks you will find great restaurant. During lunch hours you can try simple, but very interesting lunch offers. In the evenings you can have nice dinner. Tasty choices for vegetarians. Interior fabulous.
Arvis Vilciņš — Google review
Nice view on the observation deck of the tower on the 9th floor. Only $1 euro per person to take elevator up. We took the stairs down to visit the gallery and had lunch on the 8th floor. Beautiful decor and relaxing atmosphere. The frog legs, snails & mussels were all yummy.
Mežotne Palace is a charming destination to explore, offering the opportunity to stay in a stunning hotel. Located near Rundale, it's a must-visit for travelers seeking an enriching experience.
Restaurant is nice.
4 Star hotel, pretty good.
Park nearby is good, but other bank of the Lielupe is even better.
It is possible to do some horse-riding (should be pre-ordered)
Second floor is good for events (Summer is really hot season for them)
Andrey Bondarenko — Google review
The palace itself was closed, the surroundings are beautiful, especially the bridge that crosses the river. Not worth a special trip, unless you are in the area.
David Langer — Google review
Situated in the countryside this former small summer Palace has been converted to a hotel. Rooms are nicely decorated in the style of the era. The standard rooms are small the special rooms very spacious. Bathrooms are fine. I would have appreciated a coffee/tea maker and a small fridge. Public spaces are a bit staid. At the time my visit there was very little staff who were a bit reserved. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant were a reminder of communist times, a dinner menu with one of the two main courses not available for instance. Free parking.
Remco Jonker — Google review
Really nice place to see. You can stay in beautifull hotel.
This in nice place to visit, if you go to Rundale.
Martin Kruze — Google review
The palace itself seem to be open only during warm season and this information is not advertised properly. Rest of the time - just a relaxing place to take a stroll...nothing of interest.
кирилл каширин — Google review
Went to the castle expecting to be able to see it. The woman at the reception, dissuaded me, and told me there is no reason to see it, since the rooms are empty and in disrepair. It is a long drive from Riga on an unpaved road for part of the way. In my opinion you can easily skip it and not feel too bad about it. There are more interesting places to visit in this area.
Roya R — Google review
The place is closed, no information about working hours. Nothing special in surroundings, only grass around. The palace from outside is nice, renovated. It is a hotel, but with no information about is it working or not.
Aleks Sandra — Google review
The "park" (if you can even call it so) looks abandoned. Seems the owners care only about the money they get from hotel. :( If you stay at the hotel, you won't see more than those 4 hotel room walls. Sad that someone else doesn't own that place. It has a great potential.

Bauska Castle Museum

Sights & Landmarks
Ruins of a Livonian Order castle built in stages from 1443 & a later palace above the river.
Very nice and beautiful place. Entry ticket 5€ only. Loads of things to see. Must visit place if you are in Bauska. Loads of different exhibitions, proper old ruins, loads of renovated buildings. Friendly staff, speak Latvian, Russian and sometimes even English. Absolutely amazing place. You can go also with the kids. Can walk around the castle, along the river. Best time to visit - Latvian autumn. Trees around have millions of different colours, looks like you are on different planet. If you are there, somewhere not far from Bauska, you MUST to visit this place
Ruslan — Google review
The castle itself is nice but the museum part doesn’t have much to offer. Interior is refreshed and looks well taken care of however exposition is very poor.
Virginia Batuleviciute — Google review
It requires time to explore. I suggest around 2-3 hours. There are several parts in the castle and if you have time, you will get a chance to dive into the history of this place.
It was renovated and it looks fantastic. I took my time there and also explored the surroundings which are really beautiful.
There is a person in every part of the castle who puts the hole on your entrance ticket; these holes allow you enter the section or the part of the place.
It is easy to get there from the center of the city and it is quite close. At the entrance to the castle there is a cafe where you can grab some food or drink.
You can pay extra and have a private guide or get an audio guide with a suitable language.
Don't miss walking around the castle. It is located next to the river and the views are fantastic!
Julia Maakar — Google review
The castle is situated on a hill, above the river, which completes the magical atmosphere of the castle. The castle is beautiful but you will not know anything about it, as everything is only in Latvian. No English ... Even the ladies who worked there do not know English at all. That's a big minus. Without guided tour of the castle
Lenka L. — Google review
Worth a visit if you are exploring this region of Latvia. You can go up to the tower for a very small fee 1,5 EUR.

This is somewhere just for a short visit, but nice to see. A lot of it is reconstructed, so you don't get much of an antiquated feel

Beautiful medieval castle is located on the banks of the picturesque river
Elena — Google review
I was surprised to see such a beautiful castle and interesting museum in a little town.
Loved workers dressed in medieval clothes, in one part of the museum you need to put slippers on to walk on beautiful floor. You can see everything from cellars, kitchen, bathroom, tower.
sandra d — Google review
It's a bit on the expensive side in comparisson with say Rundales Pils which is nearby, considering most of it is rather empty. However it's still worthwhile, specially considering the tower and the ruins part, which really take you places in your imagination. Also the location on top of the hill renders some breathtaking views.
Jurijs Kastanovs — Google review
been there many years ago - when it was only remains of the old castle.
Now it is completely rebuilt, also still keeping old heritage - well balanced exhibition, - very interesting to explore, filling all the needs of different types of tourists :)

Amazing castle and the exposition inside. Lots of interesting to see. Got to have at least two hours to see it all. Highly recommended!

A really beautiful castle and museum ...tells the story of the livland wars as many other castles..
This castle can stand on its own, but seeing other castles in the area will greatly enhance the feeling of the struggle in livland
Thomas S. Iversen — Google review
Haven't been here since childhood (around 15 years), and it was such nice surprise what they did here. Ticket price is very low for what offered inside, you can read, feel and touch history all around. Addition to that very nice location and view.

I'll never travel to Riga without this trip planner again
Ķemeri National Park, situated near Jurmala, is a vast nature reserve with diverse ecosystems and wildlife. The park boasts numerous rivers and lakes that contribute to its expansive landscape. Visitors can explore the historical Kemeri Park with Water Tower, which has been restored to its former glory after extensive reconstruction in 2021.
An amazing national park. The routes are well made, in a good condition. It was a very pleasant journey. The view from the watchtower was truly spectacular (check last picture for reference). I went with my homies and we had so much fun. Just bring good vibes & people with you, and this might just be the best trip destination. 10/10

Really nice park just a half an hour drive from Riga city. There is a really nice wooden path for a walk which leads to a tower and you can have a great view of the entire park. A must visit if you are in Riga. Very beautiful and relaxing.

I was amazed as I saw a very clean and well groomed area. With a small cafe and working orthodox church. Amazing rose garden, that smell of perfection.
Landscaping is so beautiful that you can not stop walking there and take pictures.
Highly recommend for locals as well as tourists.

The boardwalk through the bog is absolutely stunning. I advise to rent bicycles to reach it (if you don't have a car), either at Kemeri station or at nearby Hotel Kemeri (short walk along the track away from Riga).

A very quiet and cultivated national park. The moorland is really impressive and I can recommend it to everyone who makes a trip to Latvia.
The parking costs 3 EUR and is a bit triky to reach, because the national park is not really signposted.

⚠️ If you’re coming by TRAIN from Riga, you need to walk 40-50 min on the road without sidewalks . ⚠️ for the bog trail
The only bad thing about this park
Otherwise really nice and beautiful park, worth the visit even if it’s cloudy
Zoé LEONE — Google review
Absolutely stunning place. You can go on a bike through most of the places and than park it and walk on the paths. Girl at infocentre was really nice and helped us pick the best way because we didn’t have enough time. Though we had visited only the Swamp path it had left us speechless. Also it’s free.

Awesome natural park
From the train station to the park is quite recommended a bike, you can rent it there at a cheap price 3€/h ( 15€ for more than 5 hours)
Emilio Tola — Google review
Park is big and it has many routes of different lengths. Search for “Liela Kemeru tirela laipa”, if you want an easy walk through the bog (1.4km or 3.3km) on the wooden paths. Climb the observation tower, from which you can see a stunning landscape. This route took us about an hour. On a summer day be sure to take a hat and a bottle of water. Mosquitoes mostly bite in the forest area. We didn't need repellent in the swamp. Parking near the entrance costs 2 euros per car.
It’s Just Amazing place to visit. It’s worth it .
3 euros for adult .
You would find inner peace having fun with pet animals feeding them.
If possible try to take some bread packets with you feed the animals . The animal’s present here are like rabbit, hen’s, dog, birds , duck , goat 🐐, fishes . Take your more time around 2 to 3 hours and look at the complete place .
Check out my YouTube channel as well I have posted some amazing videos on this

Maybe for same it’s weird that animals in cages but it’s typical village life. Plus in some Google photos you can see that rabbits are let out to run in free. Owners keeping them safe from foxes and other predators. Baby rabbits are very cute ☺️ It’s big place better wear comfortable. Couple dogs here also but they are very friendly and like cuddles. You can see chicken with “pants” they walk funny 😄 Also goats, cows and cats.

You have a little chance to notice this place and stop in time while moving the road, so planning to visit this place is needed. It looks attractive, but actually deceiving. It's not a little town, but the town of little lovely critters. You will find there more than rabbits only. Wish the best for owners and it's habitants, however, you may want to buy a critter or some to save them.

Great place to stop by and a short visit. Afterwards, you continue your trip with a great smile. So many rabbits and cows and other animals. Very polite, the owner offered carrots to feed all the animals.

We were just driving home when noticed a sign of a place. Decided to pop in aaaand were so happy that discovered such a wonderful and beautiful little village.

Vast sandy beach stretching nearly 25km, popular for swimming, sunbathing, strolls & volleyball.
It is a beautiful beach. The beach is pretty long so you could have a walk. We spent a whole day here, we had a lot of fun here. There are a lot of cafes here where to enjoy some different types of coffee. I would recommend going in the summer. You will have more fun at that time.

Worth a half day trip from Riga for €3 return on the train. We took the train to the furthest station and then walked back to the closer station which took about an hour. We walked along the beach but also saw two beautiful Russian churches.

We went to Jurmala Beach in September on our back from the bog walk. It's a really nice and clean beach when we visited. The beach was completely empty because of the cold weather. During this season none of the restaurants were open but you can still use the restroom or change if you dare to jump into the water.

Love this place as it's clean, calm and unique. During the winter it's not that crowded, even on weekends. The main stroll alley is full of coffeeshops, bars and restaurants. Hotels and spa are also available. However, many businesses have closed. Probably due to the COVID pandemic. You can feel the post-soviet vibe, but it does good to this place. Wondering how it looks during summer. Maybe one day will come back to find out.

Jurmala Beach is a popular destination for both locals and tourists seeking a beach getaway.Beautiful natural scenery can be found at Jurmala Beach. The beach, which offers stunning views of the Baltic Sea, spans for roughly 33 kilometers along the Gulf of Riga. The soft, white sand and the surrounding pine forests create a peaceful atmosphere.
The beach is well-maintained and generally clean, overall cleanliness standards are usually upheld. Generally speaking,The water at Beach is clean and swimming-friendly. The Baltic Sea water can be a bit cold.
There are numerous cafes, pubs, and restaurants situated along the shore. Additionally, there are restrooms, changing rooms, and lifeguards posted at particular beach areas.
Beach is a wonderful vacation spot for families. Children can safely play in the shallow waters close to the shore. Playgrounds and dedicated play places are available.

The bronze statue of the turtle facing Baltic sea it’s kind of a Symbol of Jurmala city! To bad it was recently sold and no longer at it’s previous place
Luckily for me I’ve got a chance to see it during my bus excursion with a group of tourists in spring 2015
I’ve got a really cool pictures spot with a hotel in a shape of a ship on the background

Līvu Akvaparks, situated in the resort town of Jurmala, is a major draw for tourists visiting this coastal city. As one of the largest water parks in Northern Europe, it offers an 18,000 m2 area of aquatic fun and entertainment that can be enjoyed year-round. Visitors can experience a wide range of attractions suitable for all ages, from thrilling slides to relaxing pools. The park is well-maintained and features friendly staff ensuring safety.
Love it, very fun. A lot to do. I stayed there 6+ hours. Prices were a bit high but it’s worth it, the food is great. it is difficult to understand what is being said over the speakers. there were no directions, I didn't know which tubes to go with which slide. The water was a bit cold!

Not as great experience as it use to be year’s ago, more than half attractions and facilities was closed when we visit on (02/06/2022 Thursday) and nobody warned about it when you pay for a tickets, the information about the closures you will discover when you in:) For some reason they operate as normal only on weekends! Poor options at the shop when you need to get new swimsuits or towels, as you can not pay and use they towels anymore (this option not available at the moment) so make sure you get yours. Only cocktail bar operate and food venues are closed, so make sure you eat something in advance.

Fantastic Water Park Experience!
The largest water attraction park in Latvia! Visiting here with my family during winter was an absolute blast. Weekdays are the perfect time to go as it's less crowded. Good water park with lots of different water slides, Jacuzzis, saunas, and more to explore. Huge parking lot with a supermarket next to it. 3 options of entering - 2;4 hours and all day. Water slides are cool and interesting and fast, so everyone will find what they want depending on choice. Park also has zones for small kids, so they can have fun too besides big slides. Park has one in pool bar and two cafes, one related to kids, with kids menu and one basic, where anyone can choose whatever they want. It is recommended to visit the park from the opening to avoid huge queues after some hours of opening, because even on weekday park become very crowded. There is a spa zone where you can explore 5 different saunas, as also lie down on sunbeds and 4 bubble baths. Also, they are available in the pool next to them. Water Park also has interesting offer - photographers. Special staff with cameras goes around the territory and photos literally everyone, and also you can ask them directly to photo you as you wish. After exiting the park, in a special place, you can buy for an additional price photos with you. Park also includes an outside area with extra slides and a playground for kids. So there are a lot of things to do. Overall, the park is good, but not excellent. Trip would be better, if you will travel with family or as a couple. With my experience, 6 hours is enough to try everything over and over again.

Overpriced. In need of renovation. Water was very cold, even in the jacuzzis. Rides were pretty good, but also very cold. Some of the employees were rude. Don’t recommend visiting in winter as there are way better alternatives. Maybe it is better in summer time…

Livu Akvaparks offers a thrilling aquatic adventure for visitors of all ages. From adrenaline-pumping slides to relaxing pools, there's something for everyone. The highlight is undoubtedly the Indoor Rides, a twisting, turning slide that leaves you breathless. The park is well-maintained and staffed with friendly lifeguards. However, peak times can get crowded, so arrive early to make the most of your day. Overall, Livu Akvaparks delivers a splashing good time for families and thrill-seekers alike.

We went as a family of 4 and it was quite expensive. We loved all the slides and pools but I was disappointed with the children's area as there was nothing suitable for our 1 year old.

been going there for my whole life, there are usually a lot of people but the only slide that has a problem with it is the blue tornado "Lāsēns" slide. Quite a lot
of fun slides. A cafe upstairs with a nice view on the attractions. I recommend visiting more than once!

Great place for water park lovers - they offer a wide variety of different activities, including water slides and a kids playground. Not for those who are easily overwhelmed by sounds and people. Nobody seems to use their towels in the saunas which is not very sanitary.

I found the location to be pleasant, although the high volume of visitors made it feel somewhat cramped and smaller in size than anticipated. In comparison, the Vichy water park in Vilnius offers a larger and more sophisticated experience. It appears that Latvia faces certain challenges in terms of providing exemplary service. The dining establishments within Livu Water Park evoke a sense of nostalgia reminiscent of the Soviet Union era. Typically, businesses strive to meet the diverse needs of their patrons; however, this appears to be lacking in Latvia.

Very good place to spend day with kids. Lots of different styles of slides and swimming pools. For adults have different saunas. We stayed for 2 hrs but I would like to recommend for 4hrs. It's quite expensive 🫰 if you go whole family.

Be aware of the fact that the so called quiet season has more than 50% of slide attractions closed and this info isn’t displayed in the “Prices” sheet on their website. There isn’t much value in visiting the aquapark on days which are marked as quiet season as the most visited and fastest slides are closed.

Visited with familt, two kids. Almost 110€ was way overprised considering everything.
If not for rides, there would nothing to do for four hours.
The worst is that it is cold, the water even in jacusi is not worm enough.
Also abvioysly needs some renovation, you can not miss all the rust on ventilation tubes and ect.
The watch contains metal parts, that is old school and not safe.
The Riga Aviation Museum is an important museum for military aviation in Latvia. It has a large collection of Soviet era aircrafts, including aircraft from different wars and periods. Some of the planes on display are truly amazing, and it is a great place to visit before your flight or even after the flight.
Really liked it. Awesome collection of soviet tech and to be fair I don't get why people complain its a bit of a scrapyard. If anything that makes it better as you can get more hands on

Cool “museum” with all kind of planes, helicopters, trucks and missiles from the Soviet era.

Has some really interesting planes and helicopters, but this whole place looks more like trash dump than museum. Instead of being preserved, planes are dismantled and everything valuable is taken out. Whatever is left can most often be seen only from distance, no climbing inside or anything like that. Pretty sad view overall and 10eur ticket price is too high.

Informational place. You need at least 30 minutes to be in there, and view everything. And as people mentioned, it is great place to visit before your flight. Or even after the flight, your choice.

Good for people who like to geek out on war or aviation alot of iconic vehicles like the hind or mig variants ticket for 1 adult set me back €15 staff seemed nice enough the museum has alot of unnecessary junk like pallet trucks and general scrap metal. You cannot look Inside anything just walk around. If you are unsure if you want to visit then look at previous photos taken on reviews.

The owner is hoarder, it is a messy site, like a junkyard. Some of the planes are pretty rare, so if that is your hobby, go indulge yourself.
I was required to pay €10 per adult and €5 for a kid.

Great collection of Soviet Aviation. The owner Viktor is friendly and around by the entrance gate. The collection is wide from Trucks to airliners however it is all rather chaotic with mechanical parts all over however I think this adds to the atmosphere. If the planes were cleared out and cleaned I believe that this would be even better. Overall better experience than I expected.

entry fee for adults 10€, kids 5€. A bit too much for such weak exposures.

It's a rip off! 10 eur for adults and 5 kids. Would be fine if they gave a ticket or a receipt but nothing like that so who knows where the money goes. We came at open hours but the gates were closed and after some time one "shady" dude came and opened them for us waiting on the street collected the money and let us in. It's not a museum just a junkyard with information tables (which are good). Of course personally touch Mi6 is awesome but for this no receipt situation I would recommend avoid paying and just explore over the fence (till they make it "leagal") don't be a part of this.

A very interesting aviation exhibit. This isn't like a typical museum. It is a fenced field full of mostly Soviet aircraft and helicopters. The price to get in is 7 euros, and then you are free to roam around the displayed aircraft. There are aircraft names and specifications displayed next to the exhibits, but if more information is desired, the museum website has great information on the displayed pieces. I found it well worth the visit.

7€ might seem a bit much at first but it's definitely worth it. You can see so many Soviet era aircraft that it's breathtaking. There are even ship mines and missiles on display. The deicing or snow removal trucks together with stairs and a fire truck complete the picture. It's great to spent some 30 to 45 minutes before the flight.
Christian Kelm — Google review
Pretty cool place, but a bit expensive 7 euros if I remember correctly. A lot of legendary helicopters, especially mi6, that broke a lot of records back in the day, in the early 60s. Old rusty soviet cars, even one Ford truck. If you have nothing to do after you've arrived in ryga, and you have some few euros to spend, you should spent some time in this museum.
Eugen Fomin — Google review
Wonderful collection of soviet-era aircraft and a great retired aviation engineer with his cat maintaining the place!
