Toulouse is the largest city and capital of the southern Occitanie region in France, situated near Spain. The Garonne River divides it, and it's recognized as La Ville Rose (The Pink City) because of the clay bricks used to construct many of its buildings. Very enthusiastic guide called Nicolas who brought the caves to life in excellent English and gave a passionate and in depth commentary of the cave paintings and their history. Very interesting thankyou.

A bit pricey compared to other places near by. 20 something euros a person. But loved the English speaking guide. Very enthusiastic. Amazing history

A fantastic experience, highly recommended. The cafe is great too, serving excellent meals.

Beautiful building and location , very modern with the display of Lascaux IV cave paintings because the cave is not allowed public entrance to preserve the painting. The displays are excellent. I highly recommend to vidit.

Fantastic museum with replicas of the original cave. The use of the device for self guided tour was very useful, especially the Augmented Reality function when reviewing the model of the entire cave. Really worth a visit.

Highly recommended. Our English speaking guide was excellent! He had so much knowledge and the recreation of the caves and their art is incredible. Great audio guides too. We weren’t sure whether to visit but we’re so glad we did. Followed by a beautiful walk around the town. A great day out. Cx

Amazing visit here. Booked ahead, thought we booked an English tour but we had a French one instead. Still fantastic. Didn't realise how impressive it is.
Polly Jones — Google review
It is a must see. The reconstitution is very well done and very quickly visitors forget they are not in the original cave. Our guide was great and he showed us so many invisible paintings. We learnt a lot. Parking and access are easy. Price is very reasonable.
Laurent Delarue — Google review
Disclaimer - it's not about reconstructed paintings at all. This place is organized so poorly it blows my mind (unless you are French of course, then you can enjoy the site). Ticket office sold me a guided tour in French, with an audio guide option in English. However the audio guide did not have any explanations at all (see picture), so half of the tour we spend watching some bizarre animations or standing between concrete walls and looking at French folks learning about history of the place. How educational. Whole group was tailored for a small COVID party, staying in small overheated rooms with no ventilation://
Jolanta Czuba — Google review
An amazing and interesting place. Superb audio/camera guide. Good parking facilities. A must visit. 👍
Phil Ward — Google review
Excellent reproductions and exhibition about the 1940 finding of major cave art.
But it is just a reconstruction, as the original cave has been shut down to try and preserve it
Tony Currie — Google review
The Lascaux Cave is a network of caves discovered in 1940 with over 600 paintings on the walls and ceilings of the cave. The age of the paintings is estimated at around 17,000 years! Due to numerous visitors the CO² and humidity increased, damaging the art. A life size replica was built in the modern facility at Lascaux IV, which gives visitors a real experience of walking through the cave and seeing the amazing paintings, with an hour long guided tour. Afterwards you can watch a movie and visit the other attractions like The Theatre of Parietal Art, Gallery of Imagination, Souvenir shop or have refreshments at the Cafe. Allow 2,5 hours for the visit.

Wow this was an amazing museum and artfully done. Went during low season so we practically had the sites to ourselves.
Chin Zhi Hui — Google review
The site is very impressive but it doesn't cater for international audiences as well as it could do. We were given tablets with English guides on them but the software was badly implemented. When following the tour if you moved to the wrong part of the cave it switched to the next audio before the last part finished with no way to go back. There was als no visual guide during the cave part. The interactive AR parts were also a bit flakey too.
It's also worth noting the outside toilets have no paper, or soap, and some didn't have locks.
Adrian Bawn — Google review
Even though it is a copy, the details are amazing, and it's worth the visit.
Maite Eckhardt — Google review
We thought this would be a great visit for the adults and the kids would quickly become bored and do their usual ‘can we go’.
How wrong we were; this was absolutely great, the (recreated) caves and art was excellent and the tour guide we had was really good with our group (English speaking group).
The recreations were very good, at one point we did stop and ask ourselves if we were now in the real caves as opposed to the display ones - of course it was only the reproduction ones, but it’s that good.
The art was interesting and the questions posed by the guide to provoke the thought process was a much better way of presenting the life and art of the period. It’s not just a museum.
Whilst this isn’t a theme park and we thought the kids might get bored, they actually liked it a lot. The headsets helped a lot to hear the guide (which are part of the tour).
Into the second part of the tour is the walking around of the reproductions with an interactive ‘iPad’ type device which allows you to see videos and VR displays - the kids loved this.
The building itself is very impressive and you can tell they spent a lot of money to make it as worthwhile as possible, and they’ve done very well.
I would highly recommend this as well worth a visit, it lets you see some history of the area and provided us with insights about living at that age that I hadn’t thought about previously.

A great centre, which houses a perfect replica of the cave, with many other activities. State-of-the-art Audioguides. They are connected to the different parts of the place that when you enter a specific part of the museum, it automatically explains about that part.

Another great day out, be amazed at the €80m spent recreating the Lascaux labyrinth. Modern technology has been used to accurately represent these incredible 20,000 year old caves and wall art. Family friendly and a decent restaurant plus visitor centre for souvenirs. Definitely recommend.

Avenue de Lascaux, 24290 Montignac-Lascaux, France
Lascaux II is a remarkable replica of the prehistoric cave paintings found in 1940. The caves located near Montignac are visited by many tourists and offer an opportunity to see how ancient people viewed animals around them. The replica has been created with great care and attention to detail, providing visitors with an authentic experience. In addition to the exhibit, there is a restaurant on-site and a gift shop offering souvenirs. Clean bathroom facilities are also available for guests.
Went with a tour group. The tickets were prepaid and reservations were made a head of time. Very cool experience. There is a little park/hike you can do outside the actual cave.
Janice Deverell — Google review
Just impressive but no respect with Covid distances. Little space with at least 30 humans(I would say even more). Many kids and all without face masks(yes, yes in France kids are just contagious over 10...hihihi), closed place and old people included!!. I was really scared. In the little cave we were really touching each other, I was not able to move to see at the back.... Some people were coughing!. Grrrrrrr, not pleasant at all!
Patricia Perez — Google review
The place certainly is worth a visit if you're in the area even though it's not the real cave but a replica. You can only get in with a tour but I found the tour a bit dragged out, there's a lot of information about how the replica cave was created etc (about 30 min) before entering the cave itself.
Liz Cosgrave — Google review
The tour with an excellent guide and a group of 8 made the journey through the exhibit feel as intimate as the space.
Chris & Doug Dickerson — Google review
The recreation of the original is well worth seeing! You really get a feel for what the boys experienced on finding the cave. Tour guide was very knowledgeable.
Larry Blount — Google review
Incredible recreation of the original cave! Book in advance because there is a lot of demand, but definitely worth it. We had a ver nice guide explaining everything in detail and in a very interesting manner. Left the tour very satisfied and interested in why this was done so long ago. Its a must.
Andy Lewis Martinez — Google review
Unexpected enormous cave paintings and etchings. Interesting commentary and history. Amazing, gift shop and toilettes.
Vicki Bailey — Google review
Very interesting and worth visiting. Our guide was very nice and gave very nice informations about the site, it's discovery and how understanding the drawings has evolved. Still not known the exact purpose of the cave. The drawings are interesting, the way where made and how many ways they can be interpretated. Good to wear some warmer clothes and going in the cave. Close to the cave's entrance you'll find a souvenir shop and toillets. Big coaches can also park here. The road leading up the hill is a little narrow. Walking among the trees is really nice and peacefull. Very good for school trips.
Daniel A M — Google review
First this is the must visit for all, however it has many many issues:
Tour groups are too big! We were lucky to always have a good spot to listen to the guide and see everything, yet many people were struggling to hear or see as the space is limited and narrow.
Story telling needs major improvement. It was really nice start on telling how caves were found, but after this the whole narrative became "we don't know" "image"... if you have nothing to say talk in general about cave art of europe or world etc...
Perhaps add additional track near the original cave now it is like a garbage fence area.
On the nice side it was really nice to enter the cave in the dark!! Wow!
Mind K — Google review
Beautiful experience, with an extremely knowledgeable staff. Gwenn did a phenomenal job walking us through the tour, and was great at explaining the images and the different speculations surrounding them. I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent here, and can’t wait to do more research on the area!
Kaitlin Brown — Google review
Allow yourself to imagine... Step back in time and see how ancient people saw the animals around them. This is a replica of the original caves. Much care and Attention to detail have been given to this amazing. really enjoyed the entire exhibit. There is a restaurant on the premises . Wonderful gift shop.... and bathroom areas are very clean.
Susan Shumaker — Google review
Brand new high tech visitor centre (opened Dec 2016) and guided tours, also digital tablet to translate and explain. Superbly well conceived and thought provoking. Excellent cafe too.
Victoria Jones — Google review
The tour was only in French and the tour guide did not want to accommodate English speakers at all. This should have been made clear on the website as we also paid full price for our tickets like the others. Instead, my boyfriend had to translate for me the entire time which ruined both our experiences.
We didn't have time to explore the cave ourselves as we had to follow the group. The storytelling from start to finish was too much trivia at times - would be better if they let customers explore and admire the beautiful paintings at their own pace!
There were at least 20 people crammed into the cave and no social distancing. I feel they could have limited the group size during a pandemic.
All in all, the cave is beautiful but the tour setup was beyond disappointing, especially if you travelled a long distance for it.
Deni Ch — Google review
The site is amazing. Nice drive to get there, then a look at the displays with a guide, and then into the caves with the guide. The reproductions are stunning, and you get a real feel for the cave paintings

It's a wonderful trip out. We went out of high season, early October so had missed the really full bloom in the flower gardens but the roses were still magnificent. The 5 themed gardens were a joy. Lots of games for kids of all ages, dominoes, croquet, hool a hoop, skipping, giant twister etc etc. Lots of fun was had in the labyrinth, solving clues to escape. The cafe had a good selection of drinks etc. Excellent visit.

An excellent venue for all the family to enjoy.
Flowers and shrubs are clearly labelled and reflect the various locations where she lived. The impact of the site obviously varies according to the season.
Lots of play areas for the children and a good cafe with friendly staff.

We had a lovely few hours here with our children (5 and 8). The maze is lots of fun. The gardens are beautiful and there are lots of shady and rest areas as you go round on a hot day like today. Guides in English and French. We'll definitely go back

Worth seeing, the gardens, the giant maze, the coffee shop and souvenirs shop. Colette was an extraordinary woman, artist and French figure of her era. The 2019 movie traces her story and this Garden and Maze will be a great discovery if you are into literature or just willing to learn more about Colette and life in her time. The Maze was great fun, we did it during the summer and it was tricky to get out. A super fun moment also the giant games in the garden!!! Let's be kids again!

Located on the banks of the Dordogne River, Château de Beynac is a medieval fortress renowned for its imposing Romanesque keep and intricately decorated chapel. With a height of 1115m, it was one of the most dominant castles in the region during its time. The barons of Perigord who owned Beynac were equally formidable as their castle.
Beautiful place along the Dordonne. You can walk along the river or take a boat ride. It's quite a steep hike up to the top but you can also drive up and park behind the Chateau. You have beautiful panoramic view of the river and valley and other Chateaux across the river. With lunch on the terrace of a local restaurant it was a perfect day.
Valerie Henderson — Google review
Although it seems there is a chateau around every corner in this region we found this chateau to be something special. As part of our entrance fee we were given personal audio devices that not only have information on each room but also additional background information if one choose to listen that I found provided helpful additional context. The castle itself not only was in an impressive location high up the cliff above the river but inside one got a good sense of the additions over time as times changed and needs changed. As an aside it seems that every place we go in this region, King Richard the lionheart has been there before us and this castle was no exception. Well worth the visit!
P Ferwerda — Google review
I had an amazing time at this castle. It felt like walking into the past. The staff were friendly at the gate, and there was a very informative audio tour that made it even more enjoyable, put the headphones in, and was immersed in history. It was hard to believe that I was in such a historic place. I felt like I would run into King Richard "The Lion Heart" at any moment. It has stunning views and very beautiful rooms that I felt like I was looking into the past.
I will say there is a steep walk from town, so be aware it is obviously on top of a cliff, so just be aware of that. Unforgettable
Travis — Google review
Lots of history and amazing views from the top of the village, some very steep and narrow lanes to walk, but you can drive to the to of the village to either drop/pick up or if you are lucky find a space in the small car park.
Lots of boat trips by the river and kayaking hire.
Several places to stop either camping, motorhome or hotels.
Perfect location to explore this part of the Dordogne.
Larry F — Google review
Didn’t go INTO the chateaux, but walked all the way around it and up to the top of the hill in the village. Tough walk in the sun, definitely want to be wearing appropriate footwear, but we’ll worth it when at the top. Bring cash as most places prefer that, but there are a lot of small trinket shops and a few places to buy a drink or some food. Chateaux itself was wonderful to observe from the outside, the only reason we didn’t visit inside was due to a lack of cash, as mentioned above. Wonderful views over the Dordogne too!
Ollie Groth — Google review
A stunning 1000 year old castle smack dab in the middle of the 100 years war. Looking down on the Dordogne River, and across the fields, with several other castles in view, this historically significant castle is not one to miss. Surely you know of Eleanore of Aquitaine, King Richard and the rest of her royal family, they all lived here.
Clint Westwood — Google review
Absolutely the highlight of my trip to the Dordogne region! The hike to the castle made me understand why the medieval people lived to the average age of 45. I contemplated throwing myself off the wall half way up. Im glad I didn't! So worth it!! Amazing history! Beautiful views! Stunning! A must see.
Lisa Morgan — Google review
The majestic Château de Beynac is perched on a hill and overlooks the Dordogne River below. The walk to the top is quite steep but rewarding, with beautiful panoramic views of the countryside and the other 3 castles in the vicinity.

Very nice castle being restaured to how it used to be in the late 1600's. Most rooms are lightly decorated. Very well done is the room where Richard Lionhart was held prisoner. Good panoramic views from the castle. Large parking space at the beginnig of the village. For those who are not into climming I advise to use the much smaller parking near the entrance of the chateau.

Off season visit, castle was closed however it’s worth going up. The view is excellent. Makes sure you have good legs… it’s quite a good walk up to the top. Also be careful on the way down, it’s steep.

Steep climb up from the river but we’ll worth the climb. Audio guides available from QR codes, not the easiest to follow but informative.
Amazing views of the surrounding area.

For lovers of history and old stones, this is an absolute must-visit.
The old town is very pleasant with its medieval streets, its numerous alleys and its beautiful half-timbered houses. Once a week a very beautiful market occupies the central square. There is also a small covered market which closes at 1:00 p.m.
For parking I recommend the car parks near the fire station, it is ideally located.

I'll never travel to Carcassonne without this trip planner again
Castelnaud-la-Chapelle Castle, a 13th-century fortress located opposite Beynac, houses a museum dedicated to Middle Ages warfare. The castle was first mentioned in 1214 when its Cathar lord was ousted by Simon de Montfort. During the Hundred Years War, Castelnaud's rulers aligned with the English and allowed them to use it as their base for terrorizing nearby regions.
This medieval castle has been beautifully renovated and turned into a lovely museum. The castle has beautiful gardens, interactive tours, a real forge (with live demonstrations), and many more.
The castle and its tours are great for kids.

Wow! This place was incredible. The history, the number of artifacts, and the restoration of the castle were so radical. Trebuchet are in our time today because of this castle because the art of building them had been lost in time, they figured it out, how coolis that. There's so many informative videos, it's super easy to follow the path, and they even have garb you can try. They did an amazing job creating such a cool place to visit. I walked from Benyac to get here, and I was not in the least bit disappointed.

The Château de Castelnaud is a medieval fortress, Built on a rocky outcrop in the heart of the Périgord Noir, the Château de Castelnaud offers a magnificent panoramic view over the Dordogne Valley. Founded in the 12th century, it is a perfect example of a medieval fortress. Today, the Château houses an important collection of weapons and armour. Along the bastion, the most powerful siege machines from the Middle Ages have been recreated and placed in attack positions..

A fantastic castle set in a beautiful valley. It has an English written guide that I used to gain information on all the exhibits.
My children loved the Trebuchet demonstration. There are steep, winding stone staircases so beware.
The exhibits are well laid out.
A bat landed on my sandal and then hid between two floorboards: a first for me (and probably the bat).

This is one castle in the area not to be missed. Very informative, lots to read, good bilingual video shorts. Beautifully restored. A little difficult to move around some parts if you are mobility impaired. I didn't take the tour, but it probably would have been worth it. Cute little town adjacent to it for a bite to eat before or after your visit to the castle.

A beautiful castle with amazing views of the Dordogne valley. We had a really helpful and informative tour in English - thank you for catering for English speaking tourists.
The wall walks and the keep can get very busy later on in the day, so try and arrive early. One of the highlights was the quality of the exhibitions and models which illustrated the stages of the castle and seigecraft. Highly recommended, even just for the views!

It's a nicely rebuilded castle. The views from the top of the mountain are astonishing with another castle close by, the river down the hill and that village built in the mountain in front of the castle. It has an interesting exhibition of medieval weapons exposed through the different chambers of the castle. If you are a castle fan this one for sure you are going to like. Also, it's nice for kids as it has some interactive games and some people dress as medieval people explaining their jobs.

A fabulous campsite in a beautiful part of the Dordogne. Worth the climb to the top from the village - steep uneven track on foot but you can drive up too.
The Marqueyssac gardens, situated on a hilltop south of La Roque-Gageac, offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Dordogne Valley. The 19th-century gardens feature around 150,000 meticulously hand-pruned boxwoods that form intricate patterns and mazes. Visitors can stroll along the 6-kilometer trails, passing by waterfalls, an aviary, and even peacocks.
Listed as a National Historical Monument, surrounding a stone-tiled château from the early 19th Century, the romantic and picturesque Marqueyssac Gardens offer over 6km of pathways surrounded by over 150 000 hand-pruned boxwoods, with viewpoints, rockeries and stone cabins. Situated on a rocky spur, the viewpoint offers one of the most impressive panoramic views of the valley and it’s many châteaux.Such à Lovely place.

I went on Thursday the 11th of August and on Thursday nights in August they have candlelit gardens and live music spotted around the grounds. As you walk, and climb along netting (optional), the place will start to light up and liven with music - around 9pm. There are multiple viewing platforms to take pictures and take in the immense valleys and cliffs. As well as that, there are various places to buy beverages, or ice creams, to clench your thirst - outside the main restaurant/cafe there sits a very talented pianist. Best to go on a clear day to take in the views.

The garden is simply breathtaking! Sprawling and perfect for leisurely strolls lasting two hours or more. Packed with enjoyable activities and offering awe-inspiring vistas. Keep an eye out for the graceful peacocks leisurely wandering about, adding to the charm of the experience.

Beautiful walkways with trimmed greenery in a French pruning style ascend you to wonderful views of the river valley below. The chateau is a good tour, beautifully appointed but not ostentatious.

This is the most beautiful garden I have ever seen. Every inch is manicured. The amount of work that goes into keeping these gardens looking the way they do is astounding. It is so much area covered with so many secrets hidden around that were very fun to find. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant. I had such an incredible time. I walked from Benyac to see the castle and then walked to the gardens before heading back. It was some trek, but for me, well worth it.
P.s. you can get a dual ticket to see the castle, which is what I did it was a good day.

One of the most beautiful garden I've visited.
Well kept, has stunning views over the valley.
The only down side would be, that not all paths are clearly indicated once we head deeper into the garden.
Tips: For the elderly please bring along a foldable seat to pause during the walks and comfortable walking shoes

The Marqueyssac Gardens is one of the best places to visit in the Perigord region. The vast gardens are set on top of a cliff side overlooking many castles, rolling fields, and other cliffs sides. The gardens have a castle, restaurant, and many other old stone buildings and look out points scattered across the park. The food in the restaurant is delicious and serves classic Périgourdine cuisine.

Incredibly impressed by these huge and beautiful gardens
Every part is well looked after, there aren’t many insects, which is really a plus. You have also a lot of things to see: the castle, many expositions, even paintings on the way to belvedere.
There is a great parking in front of the gardens as well.

Lovely evening in the gardens. Our one regret is we should have arrived a bit earlier to take in the gardens and views in daylight as well. The candlelight evening beautiful. 2000 candles, lit by hand and along the pathways, different entertainment spots in the garden including swing jazz, vocalists, dancing lights and other coloured pathways. We took a picnic but there were also places to buy sandwiches if you prefer.

Place de l'Église, 19500 Collonges-la-Rouge, France
The Museum of Agricultural Machinery and Automobile Salviac is a nostalgic trip for those who remember the old Renault's, Citroens, and Peugeot's. The layout and old-fashioned vibe make it a great place to spend an hour or two, with a good collection of old tractors and automobiles. The passionate owner enjoys sharing his collection, even taking kids for rides in the vintage cars.
Collecting on steroids! Every kind of farm equipment, 200 tractors, 100 cars, motorcycles, bikes, antique toys, plus he makes a wood fired pizza you can order for after your tour. Amazing collection.
cynthia abernethy — Google review
Mainly tractors and farm equipment but also cars and bikes. Huge collection of Dinky cars and trucks. It wasn't really my thing. We thought it was a shame more things hadn't been restored especially the cars. It's a waste to see these old motors just left in the sheds.
Could do with better lighting in the sheds as well.
The host was very friendly despite our lack of French
Lanita Clancey — Google review
As automobile and technique enthusiast this place hurts your testicles, was expensive and a waste of money. A giant collection of oil leaking ( directly in the soil) rusty, half rotten tractors, cars and motorcycles is what you are looking at. Some are decent, a handful are restored, but most are in deplorable state.
This is not a museum, but despite his enthusiasm and passion, this is a collector taking it to the next level of collecting. These vehicles should be preserved. If you have nothing to do, perhaps fun to go, but otherwise please go have a good wine and moules frites. There are better things to do and see in the area! Cash and cheque only, no cards!

Interesting place to spend a couple of hours in, surrounded by the countryside. Amazing collection or collections of farming machinery, tools, toys, bikes, velosolex, cars, life in the olden days in the french farm...really worth a visit.

The saying is “There’s a sucker born every minute “ and our turn came a few days when we spent 7€ each to see tons of rusted out tractors and dead cars that will never run. We have these spots in the U.S. they are called junk yards and they are free.
All of France is selling history and you can’t blame regular citizens from trying to get in on the action.

nice place to spend an hour or 2. Good collection and overview of old tractors but maybe not everyone can spend the entire day here as most tractors look and work with similar techniques. Passionate owner who enjoys sharing his collection so much that he even took some kids for a ride in an old automobile.

Good to see some of these old cars again. As a young man I rember driving or my father
(He was a car mechanic and secondhand car salesman) driving many of the old Renault's, Citroens, Peugeot's. Great to tell my son stories about each one I owned. Love the lay out, old-fashioned vibe of the place. Well worth a visit. There are many tractors not my thing but might be yours.

Rocher des Aigles is a bird park where you can watch fantastic bird performances featuring different types of fowl. It's not a zoo, and it's located near Parc Durandal to the west. Visitors have been coming here for 40 years and are always amazed by the variety of birds on display.
It was amazing! Warning: the entire program was in French. As a non-French speaker I still enjoyed the show immensely!

Brilliant way to spend an afternoon watching Birds of Prey fly off into the sky, enjoy themselves for 20-30minutes then come back to handlers who were performing with other birds. For the kids they had Condors walk over their legs, fed parrots and kestrel, had owl on head and handled a little owl. Some got to be part of the demonstration feeding flying birds. Took up 3 hours easily for €11 each, drinks over the same time span would have been far more expensive. Go!

The birds were great, they really enjoyed flying free down the valley . Most returned when called but there were a couple of large eagles that kept their keepers waiting. We shared the experience with about 150 school children from 5 to 15 years old. Noisy but nice.
Located in the side of a cliff, Sanctuaires de Rocamadour is a renowned medieval pilgrimage site. The site contains seven beautiful 12th- to 14th-century chapels built into the rock face and surrounding a central courtyard. One of the highlights at Sanctuaires de Rocamadour is the magical Vierge Noire statue, carved from walnut in the 12th century.
Absolutely a stunning place to visit. If you park uphill you can opt to either walk downstairs with the stairs or take the elevator. Do note that this place can be quite crowded. Also do avoid the city downhill as this merely consists of souvenir shops and is not worth the visit.

Last year, when I walk GR65 from Le Puy-en-Velay to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port I have, accidentally, visit this unbelievable graceful place. I'm Catholic priest so I put attention to the quietness and peacefulness of particular place of prayer. I can say that the calmness and quietness of this place estonished me. Of course I'm not talking about "upper" church but about chapel underneath the place of tourists. I highly recommend this place for everyone who is seeking for the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Mother Immaculate Mary. God bless everyone+

I'd wanted to visit Rocamadour for years, and in my head it was the epitome of medieval cities, a bit like Carcassonne. And sadly, after visiting it I found it very underwhelming. I barely preferred yesterday's visit to Beynac or La Roche Gadeac in Dordogne, both very beautiful medieval cities.

This place has his own aura. It's impressive when you look up and see the castle on the top of the "hill". And when you take a look to the overall, it seems like a place took from a fairy tale. If you're looking for a cool place to spend an afternoon, Monkey Forest is the perfect option. The park has 150 monkeys living freely and there are information panels and a video area so you can learn about their lives. Plus, the monkeys are lovely and it's great fun to watch them move around.
You have to see this! In this park the monkeys are walking and playing freely. They are lovely, but something there is some trouble in the pact, how is the boss? Visit and find out!
Bas BlasterXP — Google review
My partner and I LOVED this place. You can tell that the monkeys (an endangered breed) have good lives here, and you get to see so many of them. We spent a long time here watching the monkeys, especially the babies. Be sure to catch a feeding at one of the scheduled times, where an employee will give an overview of the monkeys and the habitat and will answer any questions you have. Definitely recommend this place!

Lovely to see the work that the staff do, a shame that you can't feed them anymore and the staff usher them away if they are on paths. Still a lovely visit though.

Loved it so much went back 2ce in one week! The monkeys are well kept and have lots of land away from the tourists, they seem very happy and healthy and well looked after. They are able to have the same social groups as in the wild and have lots of land to roam free on. Only downside is there is only a baby changing facility in the women’s toilets (suggesting that it’s a women’s job to change a baby). Also make sure you go to the toilet before going in as for obvious reasons there isn’t a toilet in the monkeys habitat.

A lovely place to visit and see the monkeys wondering around freely. There are talks given regularly and you can watch the monkeys being fed. There were adorable baby monkeys at this time of year as well. The monkeys looked genuinely really happy and it's wonderful that you can see something like this in France.
The only negatives are that the common places where the monkeys gather can be very busy and they could provide some more benches or places to sit along the way.
Some of these reviews also mentioned feeding the monkeys popcorn snacks. This wasn't on offer when I went.
Coralie Pattenden — Google review
Fantastic experience. Monkeys running free in a park with natural surroundings for the animals. The monkeys are fed regularly, and the staff explained alot about the monkeys. First in French, but they always start by asking if anyone speaks english. If that is the case, they take care of those who speaks english afterwards. There is plenty of picnic areas, so if you want to enjoy lunch in the park or is possible. If you do not bring anything to eat, it is possible to buy food at the park and well. There is of cause also a small souvenir shop, where you can buy a small gift or just souvenirs. There are slow of information boards around the park in both French and English. There are some activities for the children as well. All in all it was well worth the 10 euros that was the price for adults. We recommend this experience.

A really nice place where you can walk among the monkeys, they will wander around you and sit nearby, kids loved it. Only things against it are on a hot day there is very little shade so take plenty of water with you, hats, suncream etc, also it isn't as big as I expected, but still if you like monkeys and especially if you have kids you will probably love it.

Wonderful experience walking among and feeding the Barbary macaques. They are so gentle when they take the popcorn! Informative talk at feeding time given in English for our benefit. The only thing that I wanted and didn't find was a book detailing the history of the centre, the details of relocating the troupes into the wild and information about the animals. Magical experience observing natural behaviour, and a rare opportunity to get super photographs. I would recommend it for any animal lover.
The Gouffre de Padirac is a renowned cave system in France, discovered in 1889. Visitors can explore the underground caverns on foot and by boat, with boat pilots guiding them along 1km of subterranean waterways. The caves feature stunning floodlit caverns, including a large subterranean lake called Lac des Grands Gours and the soaring Salle de Grand Do.
Awesome place. It is the sinkhole and very deep. When look up you can see the circle of blue sky. Deeper in this hole there us a subterranean river that runs fir miles. There are flat bottom boat that takes you further on the river. Upon landing you can climb further up to enjoy the cave stalactites and stalagmites. In one portion there were sprinkling of water that seeps through the Limestone. It is a fantastic natural wonder.

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. The photos speak for themselves. Only downside was that a lot of the staff at the ticket scan weren’t that helpful and understanding. They kept speaking French to us while their name tags had an English flag on them. When we asked them if they could repeat it in English we got a big sigh an rolling eyes.

I don't know how to promote this place enough. I've been in a lot of caves, and this is easily in my top three. Practical details first. It’s 14 degrees down at the bottom so wear something warm. You can take stairs or you can take an elevator so it’s partially accessible. We had a baby with us and used a baby carrier. Went down using the stairs and up in the elevator. Easy and accessible parking and a decent place to eat. Don’t arrive too early for your door and do book online before you go as it can get busy especially in the summer months. Now the attraction itself was amazing. It is unbelievable how something like that is a natural occurrence. Two hours drive from Toulouse it’s definitely a must see. You even take a boat for 500m on an underground river. Audio guides in many languages. Really fantastic day out.

Be aware that the temperature below is 13C/55F. Also you have to take a lot of steps to see the most of it. But for most people aged 6-70 that won't be a problem.
Some places are slippery. I would recommend to do the boat ride.

Expensive entrance fee but I advice you it is worth it. Very interesting cave and well maintained, staff are helpful and friendly. Lots of stairs so make sure you are wearing your walking shoes, they have elevator and long stairs but also required to go up and down to some part and boating inside as well, not really a place for babied and small kids for it is quite dangerous for them and also for those who have trouble walking.

I'm so glad we didn't miss this.
My dad has walking issues and so we really felt the number of steps... for us it was totally worth it to just stop, rest, and continue. We didn't go all the way to the last marvel of the caverns because of the steps, but it was still totally worth the price and the visit for the wonders that we got to experience.
There are many stairs even when using the elevator option, so be sure you are up for that. Otherwise, the steps themselves are easy to use and the walkways through the caverns are fairly flat, there were rails to grab, and dim lights throughout. My dad had a hard time seeing the path so he had to go slowly, but again, it was very worth it.
Just know that photos don't prepare you for the real experience of this place. There is an atmosphere that can't be captured. For us, even with all the other tourists, and goofy kids doing all their goofy kid things, the marvel and magnificence of this chasm still permeated our souls and filled us with our own childlike wonder. I remember that feeling of childhood after this visit because of seeing things and feeling sensations that I didn't know existed. There is still more to see, more to know, and more to our planet than ever can be known.

Pont Valentre is a medieval pedestrian bridge spanning the Lot River, featuring pointed arches and three stone towers. It was built in the 14th century as part of the town's defenses and is one of France's most iconic medieval bridges. Very unusual cathedral with two huge domes. Beautiful inside. Lots of renovations in progress inside and out when I visited. The domes are amazing, one is ornately decorated. The other is bare ...looks like it's being restored. There is a beautiful ajoining cloister which gives a lovely views of the cathedral too. On Saturday mornings, there is a Farmer's market in the square beside the cathedral

A masterpiece of architecture in Cahors, well worth a brief visit. I walked into a Sunday afternoon service and there would have been live classical concert in the evening hosted at the cathedral for free. The building is situated in the beautiful old town of picturesque Cahors. The ceiling paintings are breathtaking and the many colourful glass windows are wrapping the church's interior into a nice ambiance.

Pech Merle is a limestone cave complex that boasts breathtaking paleolithic art, including murals of horses and mammoths that are approximately 29,000 years old. This world-class site features dramatic authentic cave landscapes and knowledgeable tour guides, ensuring visitors have an unforgettable experience. Unlike other popular attractions, Pech Merle limits the number of pre-registered visitors to avoid overcrowding.
Mind blowing experience. Not gimmickie, walking tour with an excellent guide (in French)
One of the only caves still open.

The tour was excellent here and I highly recommend to anyone visiting the nearby regions. We drove an hour to visit and it was more than worth it. Our tour was in English and the guide spoke clearly and was very informative. You get earphones so you can hear the guide even if they are far away. The tour was an hour all together and about 40 mins of that is spent in the caves. You get to be very close to many of the drawings, though no pictures or touching are allowed (very understandably). There are some steps and ups and downs but it is pretty accessible for most who can move freely. The path is concrete and so is smooth, not uneven which makes for easy walking. There is a great shop at the end with some nice photos and other items to remember what you saw in the caves. Overall it was a great experience and was only €14 per adult. In the museum after you can see some more artefacts and information along with a 30 minute film about the cave which has English subtitles. Highly recommended!

Well worth a visit. Amazing tour of the caves with translated booklets In English and other languages. The cave paintings are 29,000 years old and very clearly preserved.

I used to work in archaeology and love rock art. this site is wonderful for me. I found the tour a little silly and insufficiently rigorous. I wanted to hear less about the little kids who found it and more about the archaeology. The attached museum is really great and worth the little walk up the hill. I would have been much happier if the restaurant at the site was open like it was advertised.
Tips: go online and book a tour in your language. Arrive 30 minutes before to get your ticket from the ticket office. Bring a coat and waterproof shoes. If it's raining outside expect drops and puddles in the cave. No photos or big backpacks. You will get a little ear piece to hear the guide.

One of the most spectacular places in the world. Breathtaking paleolithic art, dramatic authentic cave landscapes, knowledgeable tour guides. I loved the fact that we were not crammed in to this world-class site with hundreds of other visitors, but just a small cohort of pre-registered visitors. This place changes your perspective on what it means to be human!

Always wanted to visit the site and it didn't disappoint. After a brief chat on how and when it was discovered. We walked into this ancient cave, and the marvels of nature was revealed . Then came to imprint that prehistoric people had left for us to see. Beautiful drawings of animals and other artistic ideas. It's worth the money, and more. Absolutely no photography allowed.
Maximier Jno-Baptiste — Google review
We loved this cave. Yes, Lascaux has the high tech way of seeing it, but this is more interesting for several reasons. 1. You stand in front of real paintings made about 29000 years ago, 2. You do it with a tour and human being, very knowledgeable and who can share her passion for the place, 3. The geological value of the cave, with stalactites, etc, 4. Fascinating rock formations called pearls and dishes, 5. The type of paintings, including 2 human figures, several animals, and fish. Some carvings.
It is not as crowded as Lascaux, has plenty of parking and the free small museum is also well made. Very recomendable!

A visit into one of the more exquisite caves with primitive paintings in the world! A great guided tour, narrated with talent, takes you through a wonder place. Attention: you need the make reservation on line at least one day before!

A good day out. The site has a good little museum and film explaining the relevance of the site.
The tour itself lasted a good 40 mins and was conducted by a very friendly and knowledgeable guide in English.
It was good to be able to get into the cave, which in itself is huge and impressive. Being able to see the original cave art in location is a great experience. There is not a lot of cave art here however and what there is is probably at the more basic level on the whole though there are a few very good examples. But this is not Lascaux, but a worthwhile visit, especially when it was 40c on the surface!

Pech Merle is amazing. There is an incredible variety of prehistoric paintings and drawings, rock formations, and the lighting make all this stand out. The tour guide we had was very knowledgeable without being too didactic. All the staff there is very nice, and they're like a good team. The tour guide we had last year was not working that day but he came just to say hello because he remembered our group from last year.

Absolutely amazing place. The staff went above & beyond to help us. Didn't book tickets, no spaces left... but a group turned up with 5 missing people, the reception staff came & found us in the museum, explained the situation & off to the Caves we went. We were the only English in the tour group & the guide made sure we knew about everything we were seeing. Highly recommended these Caves, a truly historic site.

The Chateau Cenevieres is a stunning 13th-century Renaissance castle located in the Lot department of France. It boasts beautifully painted ceilings and tapestries, and overlooks a scenic river. Visitors are sure to be surprised by its rich history, which has been well-preserved through excellent upkeep. The tour guide, who is passionate about the castle, provides an unforgettable experience.
What an undiscovered, gem! there were six of us, and we were going down the river on a boat, and stopped for the tour. It was $9 each, $10 if you want a French tour. We’ll worth it. We are English speakers, so they gave us a notebook that we were able to give ourselves the tour from. It is the most amazing small castle, with so much of the original furniture, weapons and family items. Each room was amazing and good stories in the torture dungeon and tiny prison cell. The grounds are also beautiful, the hostess gave us fresh thyme and sage. You are going to love it!

BE CAREFUL! We drove 85km (170 round trip) to visit this chateau on a Sunday afternoon in August, their website, and Google, said it was open but it was closed for a wedding!!
Absolutely no signs anywhere saying it was closed, there were people behind us too, expecting to visit the chateau. Not great for the wedding reception either as we all walked in on their event....
Not impressed... far from professional for such an attraction. The very least they could do is update their website.....

The Ingres Museum is located in a stunning riverside mansion in Montauban, between Toulouse and Bordeaux. It houses an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, and drawings by renowned artists such as Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Emile-Antoine Bourdelle. The museum also served as a hiding place for the Mona Lisa during World War II. Visitors can explore opulent rooms and admire the extensive collection of artwork, including portraits, mythological figures, and architectural elements.
Great applause to the marvellous staff of this well curated and perfectly housed museum.
We were on a bike packing trip, hence we were reluctant to leave our bikes outside with all the bags on it. The kind staff organized for them to be safely stored so that we hadn't had to think about them during our visit. They explained the museum to us and took great care we don't miss the main pieces. Much obliged, really!
The curation of the collection and exhibition is using the qualities of the old building to great effect, sometimes contrasting, sometimes blending. The selection of art pieces, especially when juxtaposed with contemporary art concepts, is refreshing.
One detail i'd like to highlight is the contexts (in addition to the more descriptive details) given on the exhibit labels, which we found more informative and inspiring than in many comparable places (labels are available in english, also).
In short, a great museum with engaged staff and superb curation.

The recently renovated building is almost as lovely as the collections it holds! A truly impressive and educational collection of a local artist's work. Excellent art museum close to the centre of Montauban. It is the first time I have revisited it since the renovations and they seem to have done a very good job. All the exhibits are well displayed too. I particularly enjoyed the basement area in what felt like an old chapel. Many nice displays, some quite amusing. Recommended.

This museum is very interesting and depicting the correlation between the two artists Ingres and Bourdelle which is very interesting to understand. As well, the museum shows the personal collection of arts and drawings from Ingres which provides a strong perspective on Ingres' creation process.

This museum is in a magnificent restored episcopal bishop's palace. The back prince's room is at the bottom level and is extremely large with an impressive high vaulted ceiling, enough reason in itself to visit. Above is an excellent collection of sculptures by Brouillard including one very fine one by Camille Claudel. There is a beautiful painting by Vouillard. There is a very nice cafe, too. I didn't have time to see the Ingres exhibit- maybe next visit. Don't miss this.

Place Nationale is a restored pedestrian plaza in Montauban with medieval origins, featuring brickwork arcades and restaurant terraces. The square has two layers of arcaded walkways beneath striking brick townhouses, which were rebuilt after a fire in the 17th century with concessions from King Louis XIII. Hi all, before to start to describe this place, think about how little we know about what surrounds us? Bruniquel Castle offers a nice visit with beautiful views of the town and valley. The museum part of the tour may be lacking in information, but the guided audio tour provides valuable insights. The small parking lot by the castle is convenient for visitors, especially those with strollers. For a moderate fee, visitors can explore two well-preserved castles and learn about paleo cave dwellings.
2 Castles side by side located on a cliff 90 metres above the adjacent river. This is a very interesting place to visit with a fascinating history. We spent several hours wandering through the castles and grounds listening to the self guided tour information. Well worth a visit.

What a great place to visit, for a very moderate fee - 6 Euros + 0.50 euro to rent a recorded tour guide in one of several languages, this is a must visit if you are anywhere in south western France. There are two castles for the price of one, the castles are well preserved and it's easy to imagine people living here. Of particular interest is the room devoted to the discoveries of paleo cave dwellings that may have housed Neanderthals' from 175,000 years ago. There are posters describing the discovery and the anthropological work that has been carried out in the caves with descriptions in French and Spanish.

Castle is a nice visit, with beautiful views of the town and the valley.
Bit let down by the museum part of the tour: almost no information is displayed - I assume most is told through the guided audio tour. (Which we didn't do because it's impossible to listen/hear with an excited yelling two year old.)
Absolutely worth a visit.
Tip: there's a small parking lot just by the castle itself. It saves you from pushing a stroller up - what feels like - two kilometers of mountain.

Lovely views of the surrounding countryside. This attraction atop of Bruniquel won't take you long. It's more of the medieval Castle than typical chateau , so a bit rough round edges and older than most big French chateaus. A good contrast to a lot of things in the area perhaps.
Look for a handy back road to the able parking too.
There's an info sheet that tells you all you need to know as you wonder round.

Lovely to walk around this picturesque medieval village.
The Chateau de Najac is a medieval fortress located on a hilltop overlooking the River Aveyron, offering visitors guided tours and breathtaking views from its towers. Its slender towers and fluttering flags rise from crenellated ramparts, surrounded by falaises dropping to the valley floor below. Despite its crumbling architecture, it has been beautifully preserved over time. The central keep provides an unsurprisingly superb view of the surrounding area.
This fortress/castle is one of the most impressive ones you will ever see. It's the location that makes it.
Sitting on a - at times steep - hill, you can see it from far away. And when you are walking down on the Rue Du Chateau (coming from the village), then it's just a sight to behold. It's picture-perfect.
It goes a good way down from the village....until it goes back up again to reach the castle. It's a fairly short walk - a lot shorter than it might seem.
If you have a stroller or a wheelchair it's quite an obstacle though. And the steep stairs and the cobble stones can get pretty slippery, even when it's not raining. So be aware of that and be careful.
We didn't go inside the castle - we had our Bulldog with. But the best sight of it isn't up-close anyways...it's on Rue Du Chateau when you walk towards it.
A wonderful, pretty and magical fortress. A must-see.

We had a great time here. My husband was cycling to Najac so while we wandered around waiting for him we climbed all the way to the Château up the tiny roads. My two children had great fun running around the site discovering little alcoves and investigating open areas. The view is fantastic from all sides.

What a great trip! The hike up was not the easiest stroll, however many places to take a breather and see the views. From inside your can climb to the top- the spiral staircase are narrow, but worth the climb. You can see the town of Najac from each level and the secret passway is really fun. A great time!

This outlet centre appears dated and did not really appeal much, however there are a couple of good brands represented (B&SH, Gerard Darel, Les Petits Hauts and Le Creuset for example) and we did make some purchases. The staff in each of these were very helpful.

Many prehistoric cave painting & artifacts have been found in this cave carved by the Arize River.
The approach to the cave via the road tunnel is really striking, and the cave itself, whilst not as spectacular as some, is fascinating from a historical point of view. The tour in French was excellent, and not expensive. Personally I could have done without the holograms, but they only took up 5 minutes of an hour long visit. On a practical note, there is adequate car parking, and a decent snack bar, and the nearby village has shops and restaurants, and a museum of pre-history which is included in the entry price to the cave.

Passed through en-route to Toulouse airport. A natural wonder which you can drive through. A cafe is present serving food and drinks and there's also a public toilet (but locked out of season when footfall is low). Free parking allowing to wander around and picnic if preferred. Great place to see!
- There is a cave to visit with a guide, but the entrance is on specific hour not randomly
- tickets 10€ adult person,
- interesting description of culture and artefacts, and video presentation
- I was missing longer walk in the cave, the "complet dark" test/situation, geological/morphological description, laser pointer ^^! (But the shadow pointer wasn't bad) and souvenir in the exact shape of the main artefact[Faon aux oiseaux] like a fancy pencil or small necklace- i would definitely buy it! And i was missing possibility to take pictures in the cave :(
- a little bit too cold in the waiting room
- public toilets on the parking next to the cave were closed :(
- great 3d model of the whole cave
- great model of the bear and his skeleton

Great grotto to visit. Big negative is no pictures is allowed and the guide only speaks french, so if you don't understand french you gonna miss out on some things, you do get a guide book in english, but the conversation in the hologram room is not translated in the book. You can take pictures of the outside of the grotto. The guide was a really kind person and you felt welcome. So worth the visit if you have interest in pre historic stuff.

Impressive cave system. The tour was a little disappointing for non-French speakers. The website claimed that you could get an English guide in July but this was basically a couple of leaflets, both of which you had to read before the tour as it was too dark in the caves to read them. Also, one of the leaflets was yellow type printed on black, so was virtually impossible to read anyway. Our tour guide seemed to spend ages talking about the artefacts (which we couldn't understand) and then sprint through the caverns themselves, which was a shame as you needed more time to appreciate them.
Helen Watts — Google review
A huge cave going right through the hillside. Big enough for a road to use it as a tunnel alongside the river. There is a small car park at the end and then you can walk into the cave and towards the museum.
The surrounding countryside is very pretty with lots of hiking available. Alas we didn’t have time so I can’t comment on the museum or the surroundings in detail. But the cave is cool!
Andy Reynolds — Google review
Tour tickets need to be booked in advance. Tours start every 30mins. Visitor centre is approx half a kilometre from the carpark. Small cafe en route between the two.
Spoken guide is in French only, which is fine - translated written guides available. However the tour of the caves themselves had such low lighting you couldn’t read the written guides whilst in there.
This is not an accessible tour; the visitor centre and initial exhibition/display is accessible (as are the toilets via a wheelchair lift) but visitors need to be able-bodied and steady in their feet to be able to take the tour of the caves themselves. Significant number of steep steps and where the floor is natural cave underfoot you need to be very careful. Better floor level lighting would improve this considerably.
Donovan Jones — Google review
This is such a cool place to see and learn about prehistoric, geologic, and more recent modern human times! The tours are only given in French, but they have information booklets English and other languages so that you can understand whay the guide is saying. Also, in several parts of the Grotto and caves, there are information signs in French.
A few notes: No pics/video allowed. Parking is on the upper part of the Grotto, and you have to walk down to the middle to the information center. Bathrooms are at the top by parking.
The drive is lovely as well, and with the price of your tour ticket, you can visit the museum in town for free (Musée de la Préhistoire). Lots of cute shops in town too, and some hiking trails around. Definitely worth a visit!

Impressive canoe descent! For a first experience, my feelings were mixed. Being a total novice in handling paddles and canoes, it was stressful, especially in places where there were rapids. As a result, I found it difficult to relax and enjoy the setting, the landscape, the moment. The guides who accompanied us were friendly, I thank Jérémy who got us out of the water after capsizing 😅, my 13 year old daughter and me 🙏🏻. We were 2 groups, 1 guided per group.
The descent lasted 2h30 😛 it's physical, it's tough! And watch out for aches the next day! At the end of the descent, our guides' colleagues were waiting for us to take us back by truck 👍🏻👌🏻 that was great and well organized. Back at La Belle Verte we were able to change to get dry (change of clothing required), we had lunch there at the snack bar offering buckwheat pancakes which we enjoyed. Thanks to the snack lady who was very friendly 😁.
We were able to continue with the treetop adventure session, treetop treetop guides were all very friendly. Gigantic place and route. Top security 👌🏻

(Translated by Google) Quality tree climbing, pleasant welcome, the staff is friendly.
The setting is pretty, especially the zip lines that pass over the river.
Several courses for all levels.
The only downside is that there are a lot of people for a single starting point for all the routes, this creates a bit of a wait, which is a shame.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful treetop adventure park, the children had a great time, it's very shaded, nice for those who accompany and don't practice, the bottom with the river and the donkeys is very pleasant, a lovely afternoon spent. I recommend the place and the activity.

Thomas is the MVP of our holiday! He took the time to establish what we were interested in, and made fantastic suggestions for our family. We really appreciated his knowledge, friendliness and rugby chat!

Camp or boat?
Castelnaudary is a great starting point to explore the Canal du Midi and its cluses (locks) all the way up to Toulouse, Carcassonne or the Mediterranean Sea. Bring a cassoulet (a specialty from Castelnaudary) along the way. Le Boat rents boats (no permits needed). Their bases have showers, toilets and WiFi. Sounds like camping on water ;-)

Impresionados.

Impressed. That's how he left us. We did not expect such charm in such a small town. The pool, the Church, the mill, the atmosphere of the promenade... Highly recommended.
Be careful, the information and tourism office closes at 12 noon... No comments

lots of info for surrounding area, much in english. picked up a brochure on the canals and the Pyrenees.
Hilltop castle & former prison, built from the 10th-15th centuries, with museum of regional history.
The castle is amazing. The museum is modern with a lot of interactive activities.
It helps you travel back in time :)
While climbing a lot of stairs. The only downside is that the activities are in french

The castle is currently closed for renovations, but the museum is still open. It has plenty of information about medieval times, and interactive experiences.

Amazing views over the beautiful countryside and excellent historical workshops. Very informative and a great day out for all the family.

Fantastic visit. The museum is excellent with some great multimedia exhibits and the castle itself is spectactular with wonderful 360° views from the top of the towers. Well worth the entrance fee.

Very nice castle with actors explaining the history and way of living of their citizens.
The Aragon Kingdom flag is everywhere in the castle , showing their old roots

museum very modern use your phone for guided tour rest of castle three towers worth exploring, there are actors showing things such as the forge, weapons a medieval lifting machine, and a trebuchet all very knowledgeable and spoke English as well

A beautiful castle of historical importance - hosting the counts of Foix and connected to the history of Catharism. Two towers of three can be climbed up to the top (narrow stairs) offering a view of the Pirenees. Several activities for schools and children, and an excellent museum of the history of Foix, albeit both only in french (but Google lens can come to the rescue)!

A beautiful little town with a great medieval castle. In a great condition, it's overlooking the town from the hill. The museum is informative but everything is in French. The castle offers great views of the mountains, several workshops which are interesting to see and demonstrations of medieval siege weapons.

One of the best castles in Europe.
The town and castle of Foix is an amazing place in the world. There are some great walks around the town that give some incredible views and the castle is very well maintained. The museum is incredibly comprehensive and fun with interactive activities. There are also several people dressed up in medieval garments that will answer all of your questions about construction, smithing, weaponary and siege engines of the dark ages.

Excellent castle and museum with beautiful views of the town and mountains. Plan your visit as they have many demos of medieval tools throughout the day.

Lots of spiral steps in towers.
It's such a pretty building, wonderful architecture! Illuminated at night. Stunning!

Splendid place in Mirepoix. Mirepoix itself is a medieval village, a bastide, with such an impressive arhitecture. Have a look around and stop to see the Consul's House, or have a coffee at one of the beautiful cafés. If you are around mid-October, you might be right on time for the Apple Festival. And is a MUST to see the catedral, with is religious choir. Just so relaxing...

It is a very old church, it began to be made at XII (1209 if I'm not wrong) century and had finished at XIX century.
It's construction stopped between the years 1300-1400 because of the "hundred years war" (England vs France) and because of a pest epidemic.
An interesting landmark to be visit. I guess that it is one pf the oldest of France.

Needs restoration on inside. And hardly any information found on: history & construction &/or what to see in Cathedral. For example: a fresco and more... Learned back home by coincidence through reading about Chartres labyrinth, there is one too in Mirepoix.... Situated floor side chapel within cathedral. Size 60 cm, 11 circuit with Minotaur at the centre. C. 1530

The spectacular and ancient Cathedrale St Maurice in Mirepoix France is well worth a visit. Quiet and contemplative atmosphere inside is complimented by the medieval architecture.
Mountain-top, ruined, 13th-century castle with a museum for historical & archeological exhibits.
Amazing climb and views. Can download an ap to listen to history in english. 6 euros entry in cash. Steep but fine if you go gently. Can rent stucks for 2 euros if needed. I took mine and was glad to have them.

Well worth a visit if you’re in the area and enjoy a well earned vista! It’s a bit of a climb to the top, about 30mins up a pretty steep mountain side but the ruined Chateau fort and the views of the surrounding area are stunning. We didn’t take a trip to the village just down the road due to the heat but the ticket (€5 for an adult) allows free entry to the museum should you want to know more about this mystical ruin.

Most important of the 'Cathar' castles but not as frequently visited. Castle itself is decently well maintained. Nice views. Climb is not hard for people in decent shape.

Amazing place, with beautiful view. Road over winter is a bit extreme, but it gives more adventurous. On a top is one destroyed castel with interesting history.
Catherine Filippova — Google review
The castle isn't much to see but you go here for the view and history. There was a great guide (in french) explaining the story of the castle and the end of the cathars
... when I get back home I'll fire up medieval 1212AD and bring back the Cathars !!
Johnny M — Google review
Beautiful medieval castle full of history. The museum and town below are also lovely. Loved the view from the top after a tough but rewarding hike!
Hunter Purvis — Google review
The walk is pretty steep, but if you are a backpacker that came on foot from Lavelanet, then this additional part should feel like a reasonably-paced epilogue (unless you have run out of water on your way to the castle). There's little information available in English on the signs, so if you came here to read about the Cathars, be prepared to polish your French. As is often the case with high-altitude places, the view alone is worth the struggle.
I must say the place doesn't feel particularly mystical, excluding the atmosphere of remoteness that its relative altitude creates. Guess that has to do with it having a more boring history after 1244

Great walk. Not easy for everyone with a rocky steep path off.

Small Ruin of a cathartic castle, historical wise very interesting. About the ruin is not that much to see, what amaze me is that there were living up to 600 people on the rock. The view over the surrounding land is amazing, the way up is a bit challenging for a couch potato but do able. Take water and sturdy shoes with you.
Sören Dähnrich — Google review
It was a very nice visit, a bit hard to get up but thats okay, was just a disappointed that the info boards was only in French.
Carsten Tune Petersen — Google review
The climb to the castle ruins is approximately 1km in length, with an elevation gain of 250 metres, so it is not for the faint-hearted. The view from the top is fantastic and the history enthralling. If you imagine the events that took place here you wonder how people can be so cruel.
Alan C (AlanC-LAUK) — Google review
Beautiful chatue, situated right on the top of the hill.
The hike is manageable, it takes around 30 minutes with easy steps going up. The view from the top it is really beautiful, as you can see all around.
Remains of an ancient castle featuring a room with sculptures of musicians with their instruments.
Be prepared for a bit of a climb, but worth it for the historic site and views!

Quite an interesting visit. The castle (the parts you can visit) is not very big but you get to see some nice, rather well-preserved rooms (meeting hall, chapel, etc.).
Chris Christodoulou — Google review
The weather during our visit was very changeable. The heavy drizzle in between created a suitable atmosphere, because life was certainly not comfortable back then.
Luckily the castle is not only made of old stones - although it already looks very dilapidated - it also offers a kind of museum on four floors in one of the big towers. That way we stayed dry and were able to familiarize ourselves even better with life back then. Knight's hall, music hall and a chapel with many original props. Don't forget your flashlight at your smart phone!
Just as the driveway to the parking lot with a 12% gradient and a one-lane road is not for everyone, the castle and the stairs to the floors are guaranteed not to be barrier-free. But the view and the atmosphere were unique and fortunately there weren't that many other tourists there in this weather.
The 7€ entrance fee per person is justified, because such a castle cannot survive without support.

Impressed by the chateaux but the car park and walk up are not maintained well.

Really quite an amazing place. The owner was very engaging and talked with my friends for an hour about the historical context. It was obviously a defensive structure, but also played a role in the culture of the roaming poets and singers known as troubadours. It would still make a fantastic venue for concerts, as inside the walls is enough space for a soccer match. The château existed in the early 12th century when Eleanor of Aquitaine visited, but must be much older. Highly recommend.
Chris Scruton — Google review
The castle itself is nice and well worth a visit. It is small, but with the exception of part of the wall well preserved. The young lady playing a rendition of medieval music was a nice touch. The plastic boards in some windows, the car and horse in the courtyard a bit less. The first being in the way of good pictures and the second rather overly friendly. The young teen boy claiming to be the owner and therefore entitled to go outside the fences a weird touch. I somehow don't think that that would protect him from sliding down a steep hill.
In short: nice place, easy access and giving a good impression of what a castle was.

Some lovely views from the castle. Lovely place to get a picnic in while overlooking Puivert. Be sure to have batteries on your phone to act as a torch.

I wasted 7euros on this ruin, there are 4 chambers you can visit but nothing special to see. Only pleasant aspect was a lady always and a guy playing some type of old instruments in one of the chambers, still not worth the money. And you can't climb on the roof for the best view. Of course you won't get a receipt and you can only pay cash.

When you visit more kathar ruïnes this one is than maybe the one where you expect nothing but in reality there is the most to see. This one still is a castle with a few rooms you can enter. (Only by stairs so not by wheelchair) what you read about horses is correct but it is not irritating. There is a horse to keep the grass areas short. And another plus is that it's only a short and simple walk from the parking to the castle gate. You have to buy ticket to go in. Price is 6-7 euro.
A. van Dijk — Google review
While the place is getting a little dilapidated, one info sign is completely trashed, there is enough here to occupy you for an hour or so. The keep is intact and has several rooms with interesting architectural and artistic features. Great views across to bugarach. Five Euros seemed a reasonable price to pay.

Lovely old Cathar chateau with a nice walk up from the car park and excellent views. Only reason not five star review is that we could not see inside as it was closed for a month from 25 November.
