The Jardim do Nego in Campo do Coelho, Nova Friburgo, is a unique attraction known for its colossal clay sculptures adorned with moss. The garden, crafted by artist Geraldo Simplicio (aka Nego), showcases his 30-year hermitage in the area. Inspired by the natural landscape, Nego utilizes moss to create an otherworldly yet grounded ambiance for each sculpture.
Beautiful and very interesting , hard work of my friend NEGO , and his meditation process for life .
KESHAV ANANDA DHARMA — Google review
Gigantic clay sculptures covered in moss make Jardim do Nêgo in Campo do Coelho, a district of Nova Friburgo, a special place to visit. The unusual garden was created by artist Geraldo Simplício—a.k.a “Nêgo”—who lived as a hermit in the place for over 30 years.
Nêgo uses the landscape’s natural formations as the inspiration and foundation for his work. He covers the clay with moss, giving each sculpture an otherworldy yet earthy vibe.
The garden is a small, peaceful spot packed with larger-than-life works of art. There are currently 17 sculptures scattered throughout the place. Nêgo himself is typically present to greet visitors and chat about his work.

I hiked from Petropolis to Teresopolis and it was one of the most technically difficult hikes I've done. There is this one part called the "little horse" where the only way to continue is to take your backpack off, grab the rock, swing your leg over the rock, and use your momentum to hoist your body on and over this large rock. Did I mention that this all takes place on cliff where if you fall you die? Yep!
It was worth it and so incredibly beautiful but the trail is no joke! Doable if you do it in 2-3 days (carrying your camping gear) but a lot of altitude! I have hiked 36km/day in the snow, and found this hike to be a challenge physically and mentally.

(Translated by Google) Do not go! I was there because I considered it a point of interest in the city. The place has dogs that live loose, that's ok! I'm friendly to the idea! But I was rudely approached by a man who works or is responsible for the place, when I was talking to one of the dogs. According to him, the dog was violent. So I ask: if the space has commercial purposes and is open to visitors, why does it keep violent dogs free? Why are there no signs informing us that animals can be violent if we get too close? Senseless, clueless and completely irresponsible. It appears that the visitor/consumer is the one at fault. If you have children or are afraid of animals - don't go! It's not even that interesting, much less the values. I will not return nor recommend the place.

Housed in the grand palace built in 1845 by Brazil's first emperor, the Imperial Museum offers a comprehensive documentation of Brazil's rich history. Located in Petropolis, a city renowned for its remarkable architectural ensemble including landmarks like Palacio Quitandinha and Academia Petropolitana de Letras, the museum stands as the centerpiece of this historic district. It showcases exhibits that delve into Brazil's imperial past, showcasing artifacts and narratives that shed light on significant events and personalities.
Very enjoyable small museum of Brazilian history in what was the summer palace for the Emperor. Includes the imperial crown, bedrooms, and some nice paintings of old Rio. Good value at R$10.

Museum in Petropolis built during the reign of the last Brazilian emperor Pedro II. Fascinating insight to the imperial family of Brazil, lots of paintings of the emperor, empress and their two daughters. Anyone interested in the 19th century history of Brazil should find this enjoyable. It is worth doing some research on Internet beforehand. My doing so made it more interesting for me. It is not possible to take photos inside. Part of a day trip to Petroplois from Rio de Janiero.

Some great history! No photography is allowed inside, you have to ware slip on shoes over your shoes to walk inside. It’s a smaller museum and doesn’t take much time to see everything. Towards the end there’s a small gift shop with reasonably prices things to buy( Jewlery, souvenirs and such)
Theres bag checks where you buy tickets because there’s no bags allowed inside.

Hello sudits,This is our emperors museum. It used to host and cool our Brazillian nobility long time ago.Summer down there in RIO,Brazil is extremely hot with it´s beaches. So,the emperor decided to build this castle for them to shelter while summer very high on the hills, with freezing temperature in the winter and only one hour driving from Rio,their oficial residences and palaces.
The whole Petrópolis town developed by their residences and castle. Was built sanctuaries, and many more castles and architectures for the other members of the emperors family.
It worths your visit,we normally visited there at weekends, always having lots of fun with the requirements and free time of our emperor back them like libraries, european architecture, many castles for his family and made Brazillian economy run from there,at his summer coolness and rest.
Today,Petrópolis is a touristic town, all run by this sector of our economy. It´s obeyed for the kids and schools visiting and knowing our past and history. All in Petrópolis have this mood of tourism and visiting. There are many enterprises and economies but somehow they are part of visits and guides and all at beer factories, clothes tradition and even the farms are second place for our emperors palace and city built for his cool summers here at the tropics.
The principal attractions are for sure the huge nobility that owned this country centuries ago, their huge castles, diamond crowns and all the nobility and most cultured workers following the emperor at his summer and coolness.
Quitandinha is one example of respect and necessaire our emperors culture and economy. Is a huge hotel, just like a castle, but built much later following his patterns and today hosting a museum just by the city entrance and showing much different the Rio with this huge construction never seen from many visitors.
I think one week is enough for you to know all,see the many hotels built for this ancient history and be in the past with queens, kings, princes and all the royal family at that epoque.
Good visit!

The Petropolis Wax Museum is a relatively new addition to the city, showcasing hyper-realistic wax replicas of both Brazilian and international celebrities. Visitors can expect to see famous figures such as Batman, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Mr. Bean, Nelson Mandela, and Superman alongside important Brazilian icons and leaders. The museum offers a range of characters from historical and political figures to pop-culture icons. Some of the displays even feature scenarios designed around the figures to reflect their contextual significance.
We really enjoyed the museum. Small and quaint but greatly executed

This wax museum was ok but very small and with terrible lighting for photos. The whole experience could be better, although the actual wax celebrities are very realistic, almost scarily so! It’s pretty expensive for what it is, although the student discount is good.

Casa de Santos Dumont, once the residence of Alberto Santos-Dumont, a renowned Brazilian aviator and inventor, has now been converted into a museum dedicated to preserving his pioneering work in aviation. This heritage museum showcases his significant contributions to the field and serves as a testament to his historical significance. The house, which was specifically designed by Dumont himself, provides visitors with an immersive experience by featuring replicas of his inventions and exhibits that highlight his life and achievements.

Unfortunately, not even half the information in the exhibition are translated into English. Also we didn’t find any film like it’s suggested in other comments. All in all, I’d say that it’s not really worth it if you don’t understand Portuguese very well. Which would be okay, but since the prices and basic information at the entrance are written in English, you’d expect otherwise. House is cute and if you’d like to know how it looks from the inside, it may be worth a visit. If you (again from an English speaking perspective) want to learn about Santos Dumont, you might be better off reading Wikipedia.

Beautiful site with a rich history and gorgeous scale replicas of Santos' creations, and the original house designed by Santos Dumont himself. The entrance fee is decent, and they offer a video (with English subtitles) that tells the true story of Mr. Dumont. This is a must-visit site for fans of aviation history. Keep in mind the stairs are steep (which is part of the original history of the house), but there is an elevator available for people who have difficulty.

The Quitandinha Palace, a grand and historically significant building in picturesque surroundings, was originally a lavish resort. Constructed in the Norman French style between 1941 and 1946, it served as a hotel that welcomed renowned figures like Carmen Miranda and Walt Disney. The palace is beautiful, but the staff isn’t great at all. I came at 10h to have a guided tour at 10:30. This time, I was at the hall, but at 10:40 I was told that they decided to “skip the morning tour”, and the next one is only in one hour.
It’s not the way the tourism should work. I came a long way to see the palace, but this people don’t care about your time nor the cultural heritage they represent. So come with your own guide, or avoid this place at all. Disappointing.

As you can see the outside is something out of a village in Switzerland but the inside were all glammed up!
Each room has its own personality and characteristic - for a purpose. The kitchen although empty just shows how big and thought through this place once was.
There’s a hotel on the top floor which I think would be nice. Petropolis itself is a cozy and cute little town. Very different to buzzing Rio!

Pousada Crystal Palace, a charming bed and breakfast, is situated in a Portuguese Colonial-style residence. It offers understated accommodations with a warm dining area, a garden, and a front veranda. Originally established in 1884 at the behest of the Count d'Eu and Princess Isabelle, this exquisite greenhouse was designed to showcase local flora, fauna, and avian species.
The place was cool, the staff were all very nice and it was a safe place to stay. The breakfast every morning was super delicious and had just about everything you can get for a breakfast. Would definitely return.

The hotel is good. The service and the breakfast are good. The room smell like something that didn't dry very well. The location is very close to the city center.
Virginia Morete Barbosa Bertolo — Google review
Nice and simple stay. It was our second time there and everything ran as smooth as the first visit. The location or perfect for those who want to stay at walking distance from the sightseeing places of Petrópolis. The closest place is Crystal Palace, less than a minute walking. Or you can walk about 7 minutes to the Imperial Museum. The continental breakfast is simple but have everything you may need for a morning of walking. The rooms are simple but cozy. If you're traveling in the summer I would recommend one with AC. The restroom has a nice and strong shower. Nood to relax.

(Translated by Google) Extremely disappointed with this guesthouse that promises everything and delivers nothing. The place is beautiful, it has everything to be perfect but it lacks essential details. In addition to not having parking, I paid for a room with a view and air conditioning, when I got there the air conditioning didn't work. After checking more than 5 rooms I decided to stay in one that was not clean. I waited for more than an hour for the room to be ready. Then the room key didn't work, it wouldn't lock. I went out at night and when I returned there was no control over the air or the TV in the room anymore. I had to wait another hour for the doorman to resolve it (this was at 3 am). I bought a room with a double bed, they put two beds of different density together, we slept very poorly. Breakfast is very poor and they do not provide shampoo and conditioner. It's not worth the price. The staff are polite but the quality of the service makes us not want to come back. A feather. I do not recommend.

This is a very well preserved farm from 1845 that used to produce coffee. The first owner was Domingos Custódeo Guimarães or Viscount of Rio Preto (Black River Viscount). The actual owners belongs to the second family of owners of this farm. Mrs. Simone and her husband keep the place preserved as it was in the century the farm was built. Everything is kept original, the furniture, the paintings, decoration... Is like going in the past. I can say it is one of the best preserved farms from the time that coffee was considered an investment good as gold. To visit this farm, you have to schedule your visit by phone. The price is about US$10.00, it is not expensive due to the knowledge of the owners about the farm history and their sympathy. It is easy to find a place to park in the farm, don't worry about this.

(Translated by Google) Mandatory visit for visitors to Rio das Flores. I've had the opportunity to visit several historic farms throughout Brazil, but Fazenda Paraízo is in the Top of the best preserved and beautiful. The guided tour by Simone, owner of the Farm, was fabulous. Full of history and lessons learned. And there was even a cup of coffee at the end. It's worth the visit.

Independência Shopping is a two-level mall in Juiz de Fora, offering a variety of fashion, home, and cosmetics stores. Visitors can also enjoy informal eateries and a movie theater. While not large, the mall boasts interesting shops with unique offerings. It's an ideal place for a leisurely stroll and provides ample dining options for travelers passing through the area. The shopping center features well-known brands alongside local favorites, creating a diverse retail experience.
The best shopping ever ! In this city.
Moises Silva Rodrigues — Google review
It isn't big but has very interesting shops with something peculiar. It is good for a walk and good for travellers that are passing by Juiz de Fora as there are many good food options. From Mac something to good restaurants. The only negative point I noticed on my visit, is that the parking is not good for medium to big size cars. A big SUV like Mercedes G class, Chevrolet Silverado or Ford F250 are going to use two lots.

Mirante do Morro do Imperador is a hilltop location renowned for its Christ the Redeemer monument and a plaza that offers picturesque vistas of Juiz de Fora. Positioned at one of the highest points in the city, it grants visitors an exquisite panoramic outlook. This sought-after spot attracts nature enthusiasts who relish engaging in physical activities like hiking along the numerous tracks available. The awe-inspiring view of downtown Juiz de Fora from this vantage point is truly remarkable.
The view of downtown Juiz de Fora from this place is breathtaking. There's a snack bar and a souvenir shop up there. Sometimes you can find only one person to assist you. But it's ok. The view makes it worth it. On weekends, there are more prople to assist at the shops.

It is a beautiful museum with a lot of very interesting pieces. The recent renovations have turned out wonderfully. I'm very interested to go back and see what other Restorations are made to the museum as well as to see the rest of the museum. There were a few portions closed off to the public during our visit. There is also a very beautiful Botanical Garden at the foot of the Hill leading up to the museum. One of the most beautiful places I have been to in Juiz de Fora.

Hiking routes in a sprawling reserve dotted with dramatic waterfalls, rock formations & caves.
Beautiful park with well-maintained trails. Really cute town that has places to stay and plenty of bars and restaurants right down the road.
Tari Trowbridge — Google review
It is a natural park in Minas Gerais state. The park is wonderful, full of sedimentary rocks and natural vegetation, some streams and caves. You can trail everywhere there and have fun in contact with nature. I also recommend going to "janela do céu" (window of the sky), which is a very long walking trail. It is tiring, but worth the visit. About the park itself, I do recommend it.

The park is amazingly beautiful, great choice for camping, enjoy some fresh air, hiking, waterfalls, watching birds and wild life. The sky at night is so full of stars! It's a quite big park and maybe two, three or even four days might be necessary to see everything, but anything u see of it it will worth it! I do recommend it!
Guilherme Freitas — Google review
Make no mistake my friends, this is one of the greatest places to visit at least once in your lifetimes. It's not simple or easy to get to, and some of the trails are definitely not for beginners, but it's worth every little drop of sweat to climb up to the window of the sky (janela do céu) and enjoy the unique experience this place has to offer. It's ao marvelous it's almost mystic.
Tahian Bhering — Google review
Maravilhoso parque estadual.
beautiful, enchanting national park well worth visiting and well preserved and clean. the perfect photo at the " sky window" desperately needs better organization and restrictions with supervision and I feel that there are other places in the park that are even more beautiful. It is controversial to impose restrictions but public safety, cleanliness and preservation are essential.
