I fell in love with this small beach 🏝 It is nice to relax on the beach, have a nice walk and enjoy the view.
The best thing of the beach is that there weren’t many people. The beach doesn’t have a lot of waves so it can be safe for kids.
There are also two restaurants nearby one that’s close to the beach and another one a bit further down.
Jessica Le?n — Google review
Water was 58 f. The sand was nice, thick and had a nice color. The beach season has not started yet so no crowds to deal with and no traffic. The parking lot was pleasently open and we had plenty of Parking. This is the perfect place to retire.
Cristian Terreros — Google review
Lovely small beach in Zapallar which can be reached by car. Parking is next to the beach but it is not free though. To the left of the beach you can find a few restaurants and from the right side of the beach leads a nice trail along the rocks.

Beautiful beach, but the app to pay the parking requires a Chilean credit or debit card. For a foreign person the validation doesn't pass. We spent one hour calling people trying to pay for the parking

Excellent, clean, not so crowded, safe... Great place
The Los Nichos Winery is located slightly outside the main tourist area, unlike the more popular distilleries in the town center. However, locals highly recommended visiting this distillery and it proved to be worth going a little further down the road. The tour provided a comprehensive overview of the entire distilling process and concluded with a delightful pisco tasting. It was an informative and interesting experience, offering ample knowledge about the workings of a distillery.
This pisco distillery is a bit farther from the town center where there are distilleries that are frequented by most tourists, but several locals told us to go to Los Nichos and it was worth going just a little father down the road! The tour of the distillery took you through the whole distilling process and ended with a pisco tasting!
Emily White — Google review
Amazing place, thorough tour. Tours are only on Spanish.
Ashley Folkestad — Google review
Good tour with loads of information. We also have been lucky to see the Distillation
Marco Pirker — Google review
Nice alternative to the commercial pisceria in elqui. Shame the guide was talking way too fast for us foreigners to understand all in Spanish. He seemed a bit rushed, not waiting till group was complete etc. Overall good experience.

Amazing place to know the history of one of the testiest chilean piscos.
The restaurant 'Destileria Pisco Mistral' is a great place to enjoy delicious Chilean dishes in an elegant country setting. The staff are friendly and the food is fantastic. The deserts are a nice bonus!
Elegant with a countryside style restaurant with a great open view, and tasty and generous dishes. The staff is very friendly as well. Raul was our waiter and he was amazing. Fully recommend it.
Johann Henriquez Lucero — Google review
The restaurant and the tour are a clear recommendation for a visit to Posco Elqui. We visited the restaurant twice. The food and drinks are very well selected and offered at a fair price. Important to note: the restaurant's opening hours are very limited in summer. Nevertheless, 5 out of 5 stars
Tobi Wilker — Google review
Totally 0.
They tried to give us drink we didn't order and scam us.
They told us the desert is the pumpkin pie so we ordered it and got totally different caramel pie.
They have service fee they don't inform you about.
Urszula Bezak — Google review
Great, tasty food and really awesome tour of the Pisco distillation process by Diya. The yard is beautiful but make sure to reserve beforehand. The one problem I had was I bought the finest quality pisco bottle for about 20.000 CLP as a souvenir but when I reached back home I realised that it had leaked almost half, meaning that the seal used was low quality. Rather not buy the bottles there in that case, wait until you get back to Santiago as it reduces the risk even though it will be a bit more expensive.
Rajesh Gowda — Google review
The place is nice and the tour is pretty good and informative. Although the restaurant could be better. It's a bit overpriced for what you get.
Frederik Bruns — Google review
Beautiful place, excellent food. The deserts are a killer. One of the best restaurants I've been to in Chile
patrick mork — Google review
One of top pisco distilleries in Chile - informative tours (English tours are available upon prior request) and nice restaurant (prices are on the high side, but food/cocktails are delicious!) Prices in a brand shop are much cheaper, compared to retail (you can usually spot the queues) and even allows to make a private label bottle of pisco with certificate (perfect for gifts!). Highly recommended!
Alex Pyshkin — Google review
Just went there, bought tickets at 14:40 for there first normal tour at 16:00. Then my girlfriends finds out there is a viptour at 15:00 we could join, it was no trouble to change it. She told me while I was in their restaurabt and when agreeing went to get the ticket. 14:50 but now we could not and there was not enough time to set up they said. Later we saw there was no one else for the tour. Bad customer service and experience.
Pieter Ornoster — Google review
We came for the distillery but they don't have a tour today. Instead, we had lunch here, drinking their pisco sour, and eating salmon, lomo, pastel de choclo and creme bluree. Surprisingly nice restaurant.
The Gabriela Mistral Museum is a well-maintained, modern and free cultural center of great historical significance. It is dedicated to the life and works of Nobel Prize winner Gabriela Mistral. The museum complex offers an interesting experience for Chileans with its diverse range of exhibits. Beautiful set spacious museum with flowing exhibition about the writers life work and heritage. By the way, she named "El Salvador the thumb of the Americas" : ))

The Mamalluca Observatory is an impressive tourist destination that features educational exhibits in a stunning mountain location renowned for its crystal-clear skies. The observatory boasts knowledgeable and humorous guides who are passionate about their work, making the experience unforgettable. This place offers an incredible opportunity to learn more about astronomy while being surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Overall, the Mamalluca Observatory provides a unique and awe-inspiring experience that is sure to fascinate anyone with an interest in space exploration and celestial objects.
We saw the Milky Way with our naked eyes. The sky is so clear here. We also saw Jupiter & its moons, plus Saturn rings and several nebuli in the telescopes. So beautiful! The guide spoke excellent English and gave great explanations of constellations. Make sure to wear warm clothing because it gets cold in the mountain at night.
John. Construccion — Google review
They sure have a weird system for ticketing, in that you make your reservation online and THEN you show up at a specific time the evening of your reservation to stand in line to buy tickets and transport, then wait another 30 minutes before being transported. The facilities were alright, but we were in a group with 20 other people so there's a lot of standing around waiting for your turn to look through the telescopes. Guides are passionate and made it interesting. Overall it was nice enough, but not sure it's a must-visit.

The rigamarole to actually get your tickets is a complete fiasco - read on for details. However, everyone we dealt with both at the office and the Observatory were very friendly and helpful so the system is NOT their fault.
Posted hours online are a work of fiction but from reviews we gathered that they'd be open a little before the tours begin so we turned up just before the 6pm tour as we wanted to get our tickets for the 8:30 tour.
Yes, you're reading this correctly. You don't actually get a ticket when you book online so you have to go to the office to do so, along with all the other people who booked so you get to stand in a nice long line to actually pay.
Yes, you're reading this correctly. You cannot pay online. Sigh.
Oh, and don't bother trying to get your 8:30 tickets around 6pm.
You're reading this correctly. You have to queue up around 8pm with all the other people, etc.
The bus to the actual Observatory costs an additional 7,000 clp, an absolute ripoff.
Google maps works fine if you have your own transport, with one caveat: it says you are there about 50 yards short of the actual entrance gate. Show your ticket for entry to the parking lot.
OK, so you've gone thru all the steps to get your ticket, and you've driven there, arriving at 8:30 on time for your tour. On the night we went, the tour didn't start until 9:20 but who knows on your night.
Finally the tour: our guide was fantastic and the information he gave very interesting. Looking at the moon and stars was amazing.
Phil McC — Google review
This place is incredible. Our guide was so knowledgeable and funny! He was passionate and his passion was contagious! What an amazing experience.
Barbara Olivares-Lazcano — Google review
Horrible system.
This place requires you to reserve tickets in advance, yet you have to go half an hour before your observatory tour starts to pick up your tickets, so far so good?
Nope, when you arrive there will be a queue of people and most of them won't have a reservation and the people who work there will take them anyways (in fear of being treated as mean for not taking customers with no reservation) which causes the people with a reservation to wait for around 40 minutes, when they could just sell you the tickets when you make the reservation...or have two queues...or sell them online...unlimited options!
We even had an older woman cutting the line twice, taking a very long time and when we had enough and told her to have some respect for other people's time she said "learn to live life...you are young" I guess if you know how to live, skip lines, and have no respect for others maybe go there and you will have a great experience for me it was not.
Also the observatory was cheap but you get what you paid for, very crowded and tired tour guides, we where lucky to join an English tour with a great guide but most experiences are not like that.
Camila Peralta — Google review
Very disappointed for the food and service. Worthless.
Ricardo Oliveira — Google review
We really enjoyed the tour. Got to see Saturn’s rings, Jupiter’s moons and many constellations. The guide was very knowledgable and spoke very good English. We also listened to a few presentations which were mind-blowing. It cost CLP 20,000 for two of us including transfer to and from Vicuna. If you then need travel onwards by bus be aware that the tour gets you back between 21:00-21:30 and many of the last buses are at 21:30. We very nearly missed our last bus but asked the transfer to stop near the bus station for us and we just made the bus as it was exiting the station. You have to go to the ticket office that’s near the Torre Bauer in the afternoon to sign up for the tour later that evening. You then return to the office at 18:00 to confirm and pay, weather dependent. At around 18:30 you get the transfer and the tour starts just after 19:00 and finishes around 21:00.
The Stone Adventure — Google review
Good equipment but the groups are too large (we had about 15 in our group) and you end up getting rushed and dont really get to enjoy the experience. We also visited pangue observatory, which was so much better with its small groups (we had 5) and better location away from the light polution of vicuna.
Cruz Del Tercer Milenio, also known as the Cross of the Third Millennium, is a modern religious landmark located atop El Vigia hill in Coquimbo. Playa La Virgen
Resort hotel
Outdoor Activities
Beaches
Playa La Virgen is a charming seaside retreat comprised of traditional, thatched-roof cottages. These rustic cabins offer well-equipped kitchenettes, inviting terraces, and breathtaking ocean vistas. Located at the end of a somewhat perplexing access road, this little slice of paradise is worth the journey for its stunning beach alone. The approach from the surrounding elevated terrain presents an awe-inspiring view, with mesmerizing turquoise waters that are sure to captivate any visitor.
Nice little cove. Very isolated, water is trucked in. The is no cellphone reception no electricity grid. Most places use solar panels or a genny. There is one restaurant, only cash. The water is cold, sunblock is highly recommended, specially for lighter toned skins. Great place to unplugged from everything and everyone if you go off season.

Beautiful beach! It was quiet because we were in May but in summer must be busy. The cleanest place in the area also.
But you have to pay to enter
$10,000 clp per car.

Beautiful beach... I recommend you to head to through Puerto Viejo, the route is better.
The entry cost 10.000 CLP, I think this is for parking because you can access to it walking for free but is a bit far...
Deivinson Tejeda — Google review
Parking costs $10.000 CLP, but you can park outside and walk (~15 mins). The beach is incredibly beautiful but is not big, so it gets crowded on weekends. The road to get there is in poor conditions, but the trip is worthy.

At the end of a very confusing access road (specially if you are a first timer), as soon you reach at Playa La Virgen, you are right on a little heavenly beach particularly if the sky is clear!!! The view while approaching the beach from the surrounding high land is just amazing!! The mesmerizing turquoise color water will make you crazy!! A great summer destination with family.
A good camera is must to carry if you like to capture the joyous moments!

Nestled in northern Chile along the coast, this beach was suggested to us by anyone we spoke to about what beaches to visit. The sand, the water, colorful large umbrellas painted a post card image, forever ingrained into my memory. Not a large beach by any means, but it was well maintained, had amenities available, pay per use bathrooms (clean) and beauty galore. If you can visit, do! Only warning " Put on loads of sunscreen ".

Beautiful beach, it's hard to get there though, the road is not cemented and to get into the beach you have to go down an uncomfortable road, once you're there is awesome.

This is one of the top 5 beaches of Chile, it's located in a very well protected bay, specially from the southern swell.
National park encompassing sandy beaches, desert & an island that's home to endangered penguins.
Stunning park, free of access. It shows so many wonderful landscapes. So sad we did not manage to see a guanapo, but the view was still amazing.

Though not as impressive as the one sharing the same name in Rio, this beach and its surroundings are definitely a must see in the area. This offer a change of view from the people-filled bahia inglesa and the region of copiapo overall. Not sure this is accessible with anything other than a tour or your own car but definetely have it on your checklist!

This isn't a standard backpacker destination and you really do need your own transport (you 'can' reach it on public transport but it will take a lot of time and hassle to sort out and you may get stranded thus relying on hitchhiking to get out again) but I would still recommend it. The wildlife and trekking options available are limited but what you do get is something very different from other destinations. Camping on the beach (organised campgrounds) is really nice and you have the extraordinary combination coast and dry arid mountains all within walking distance. If you want to see the penguins then you have to pop into the small settlement and get a boat to the island (it does not land), bear in mind the boats will either not run or cost a lot more off season.

This place can make your life better not only your travel. It's perfect if you want to rest and get closer to nature. You can find there great treks in the desert. Camping is a nice and cosy places with everything you need. There is a little restaurant where you can eat fresh fishes and the best ceviche in Chile. Owners are welcoming and open minded people. Gracias por todo Don Julio!

It is about 6 km long, 4 km wide and 850 m deep. The mineral is removed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 600 tons of material come out of its crater per day, only 1/3 of which is useful minerals. The waste is piled on site in the form of artificial mountains over 150 meters high, forming sediment banks. To move so much material, a fleet of 130 giant trucks is used, each 7 meters high. Words cannot express how absolutely fantastic this place is. As a Californian with an extensive history of visiting ghost towns in the United States, this UNESCO site is by far the best ghost town I have been too. It is remarkably well preserved, it has an unbelievably extensive collection of quotidian objects. Humberstone is the better site of the two if you have extra time as it is much larger and has a lot of variety. Commit to at least 2-3 hours of walking and make sure you go to the far end of the site by where the factories are, you'll find incredible machinery, trains, and artifacts. Note: the old saloon, plaza, church, and movie theater are a must visit.
If you are right on time go to Santa L., it's just up the road had a lot of what you can see at Humberstone but is a lot more compact so you can do it all in 45 min. The main museum at this site also has original and beautiful ads produced by the companies and Chilean government to popularize its nitrate abroad, these posters are remarkable pieces of advertising history and early 1900's history.

The Humberstone and Santa Laura ghost towns are a short drive up the escarpment from Iquique.
They are a good way to see how life was when this was a thriving mining community and is somewhat frozen in time.
Bring water and shade as it is a hot and dry area of Chile changing quite a bit from the climate in Iquique. Wear solid shoes as the buildings are in disrepair and broken glass and nails are scattered across the ground.

I thought it was gonna be a genuine ghost town. Which it is, but the fact that the exterior of every single house is branded with modern signs and plaques, and their interior renovated with most objects cleaned and arranged neatly on the walls, took away from the experience. It's basically like any other museum and thus not worth the trip. The layout of the town and the exterior of buildings is a fascinating sight tho and one to behold.

The Corbeta Esmeralda Museum in Iquique, Chile is a replica of a historic Chilean ship which fought in the War of the Pacific against Peru. The museum features artifacts from the 1879 period, as well as guided tours that provide an overview of Chilean history.
Fantastic replica of the ship and interesting museum with a very helpful and friendly staff. I stopped by around noon and, despite my limited Spanish, a worker there set me up with a self-guided audio tour (guided tours are only available in Spanish). This gave some interesting insight into one of Chile's important naval engagements during the War of the Pacific. I would definitely recommend a stop if you enjoy history! Afterwards, the fish market next door is also worth a visit.

I loved the combination of old artifacts and modern Chile. You can get a good sense of Chilean history in one small delightful place. I mostly recall the area near the Sierras rather than the desert though the desert has the reputation of never having experienced rain in human history. Not sure if that is true of course but intriguing at least! Wonderful side trip (though a long hitch-hike!).
This is a nice little museum not too far away from Arica. It's a little difficult to get too as the only major sign points as a dirt road, it's a billboard just before you enter town (if coming from the direction of Arica). The center itself is well kept and the museum that houses the mummies does a good job of showcasing and educating without being overwhelming. Allocate 45 minutes to see everything on display.
Note: some of these mummies are on display at the Pre-Colombian Museum in Santiago so if you miss them here make sure you see them there.
Morro de Arica is a prominent hill that offers stunning panoramic views of the city and coastline. Standing at 110 meters, it provides a perfect vantage point to witness breathtaking sunsets. The hill also houses the Museum of History and Weapon, making it a dual attraction. At its summit stands an 11-meter tall sculpture called The Christ of Peace, symbolizing peace between Peru and Chile. Visitors can enjoy not only the natural beauty but also learn about the historical significance of the region.
Pay attention to the sign or you could wind up getting locked in.

El Morro is a beautiful hill that you can climb on in just 15 minutes. On the top you will see huge part of Arica. There are reminders of an important historical point - Battle of Arica during The War of the Pacific, you can visit a museum there too. Locals are jogging, hiking or biking there. I am giving 2 stars because of all the trash there, it is shameful and extremely disrespectful to this place and I dont understand how it can be so dirty since the place is locked down during night and we've seen a lot of employees there (so somebody could be allocated to pick up the trash!).

There are restaurants near, so eat and have time to look everything there is not a problem, hope you could enjoy your trip

It's not so grateful as the others ones in Europe but it has a beautiful frontis. It's better to visit it at night.

It's a great place to be in a mass, however the cathedral needs maintenance.
The Mercado Central is a bustling shopping hub that houses various vendors offering fresh fruit, meat and locally made handicrafts. In addition to this, it boasts of popular restaurants that serve delicious breakfast to visitors. The market is well-maintained and clean making it a preferred choice for shoppers who always buy here. One can also find quality Olive oil at the renowned vendor "Comercial Blanquita" G2.
This market is clean ... Neat , I would definitely buy here ALWAYS!

Its a place where we can experience local food at a fraction of the price compared to tourist restaurants. Very competitive on that matter because there's many Chileans also working there. You can compare it to a huge grocery store and bargain store all in one. Fruits and vegetables are very cheap and they bring them in large quantities, what's favorable to tourists looking for local fruits or veggies because they sell it buy the kilo. I myself got 5 mangoes for a dollar (3.80 soles) and broccoli for 50 cents (about a pound) - that's just a small example. Its not really a touristic place, its a local community commercial center. Still, great to find amazing bargains!

Loved it there. When all the ladies come to you to get you to eat at their cafe. Ask for Olga. She is the most friendly, kind and sweetest of them all. I'm the tired one in peach.

Decent food but way too pricey considering the surroundings inside the market aren't very nice or appealing. Would have rather gone somewhere nicer for the same price
Omar Cardenas — Google review
A traditional place, recently refurbished, with many different things, starting for small convenience stores, with local products, milk, chocolates and any sort of thing for cooking or cleaning. LOL.
In the second floor you cand find a nice display of natural juice makers, who tempt you with fresh fruit slices for free like mangoes and melons. It is very cheap and juices are awesome because of the quality of the organic local fruits, tasty and aromatic. And for less than a dollar you can drink the WHOLE BLENDER. Yes, the whole blender.
There's a hidden sublevel where you can buy alcohol and cigarrettes from all around the world for very good prices (JW black for $40 bottle) and also there's nice cheap place to get a manicure or pedicure with nail design for less than $3 dollars.
In the surroundings you can find pirate buses to Arica, most of them, chilean. Good option to avoid crowded buses at the international station.

The Basilica of Our Lady of Copacabana, a Catholic church located in the center of town, boasts exquisite architecture that blends elements of both a church and a moral. The cathedral is worth visiting, as it stands out amongst other colonial churches in Europe. Visitors may be surprised to see an unusually long line of cars waiting for the priest's blessing, which is only available at this particular church. While pictures cannot be taken inside, the interior is just as impressive as the exterior façade.
Beautiful cathedral in the center of town. The only strange sight was the insanely long line of cars waiting to be blessed by the Priest (a service provided only at this Church specially) which is something I have never observed anywhere else before.

Coming from Europe, colonial church’s don’t call my attention so much. But this one has an exquisite architecture, something between a church and a moral. It totally deserves the visit. They were painting when we were there a week ago, so it should be even more beautiful soon.

Isla del Sol is a rocky island situated on Lake Titicaca in Bolivia. It boasts over 80 archaeological sites dating back to the Inca civilization and earlier periods. Visitors can take a boat trip from Copacabana to witness the sheer magnitude of the lake and explore ancient Inca ruins scattered throughout the island. Additionally, Isla del Sol is home to Aymara villagers who tend to their sacred sites while also farming the land.
Beautiful place where you can get amazing views of Lake Titicaca and even see a portion of the Andes mountain range.

Possibly the most beautiful island we've ever visited. We only came for one night and wished we'd stayed for more so that we could do some hiking and spend a day just relaxing, reading and drinking beers with the beautiful views!
It's possible to hike from the north to the south in around 4 hours and to take the boat one way.
We stayed in Yumani in the south which though touristy we found beautiful and actually not particularly built up beyond the guesthouses and lodges.
Charlie Marchant (Charlie on Travel) — Google review
Very calm and serene place. Lot's of places to discover and some hiking to do.😊
Joy Along The Way — Google review
The island is amazing but unfortunately the boats start too late from Copacabana so you won't have enough time to enjoy the day if you won't stay at least 1 night on the island. We had a day trip and definitely regret not staying on the island because the first boat arrived around 11am at the northern port and we had a lot of stress catching the last returning boat from the southern port at 4pm. We recommend going to the northern part and hiking to the south, then sleeping there at night before going back to the mainland. The northern part has more beautiful natural views but the southern part has more facilities like restaurants and bars to make your stay more comfortable.

There is not much to see actually. I'd recommend skipping this entirely. Some nice views, Inca stairs but that's it. The people are straight up unfriendly. The local tour guide took us to a place with a rock in the ground and fed us a story for about 15 minutes about its significance for the Incas and its mythical healing powers. He played a nice theater of praying to Pachamama and did an offering to her by placing a few coca leaves next to the rock. Well, don't wanna be a jerk but there is no mention about this rock in any of the maps I've used, nor anywhere online. Also, the rock is in someone's garden in the middle of a corn field. When you walk to the rock, you smell garbage. There is a stone table in front of the rock which the guide claimed to be a table to prepare the offerings to the gods but then again, there were beer bottles and caps lying around so I'd say it's more like a table where they sit out in the evening and drink. This was a full day trip and I regret going there.

The largest island on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca. On the island, there is the Inca trail that connects both the island’s northern and southern ends. It offers spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Real, Lake Titicaca, the island’s agricultural terraces lined with giant eucalyptus trees, and beaches. In the village of Cha’llapampa has a tiny but interesting Museum with many fascinating artifacts.

60 Bs daytrip. Boat takes you in 1.45 h to Isla del Sol. I took the north tour. Some hiked to the south port which is easy possible. But the north has better landscape and the inca ruins to visit ( 10Bs). I took a local guide, which gives additional information and easy to navigate (no sign where to go...)

First of all the island is beautiful with some amazing views out to sea and also the island itself is beautiful. Now what I disliked about the island is the trekking paths because every couple of hours of walking you had to pay a toll of 15bs per person which just felt like a rip off. The locals were not very friendly either and the history just felt like it was all faked to trick the tourists into thinking the island is more special than it actually is.
David Holmes — Google review
Great views and tons of sheep / alpacas along the easy hike! No trekking experience is required, but bring layers as it can get sizzling in the sun and then chilly in the shade. The boat ride is windy as well. The landscape is magnificent making it difficult to distinguish between the sky and lake at various points. Gives you a brief sense of vertigo.
Karol Gawrych — Google review
I’d say I enjoyed the hiking but nothing special at all. Maybe you will see some villages and a lot of restaurants and guest houses. Unfortunately only 20% of the site is available and you can do it in less than 4 hours. The escadaria Inca is the highlight of the island.
Simone Takahashi — Google review
Very touristy. Lots of hostels and restaurants. It's nice to hike around a bit but I find it highly overrated. 40BOB for the 90 min boat ride from Copacabana. 10BOB to get off the boat and set foot on the island. There's only 10-15 km of trails and a few sites with ruins. Every now and then the people from the south part of the island get into a quarrel with the people from the north part and they don't allow tourists to enter the north part where most of the ruins are. Inform yourself about trail closures before you go.
Puno Cathedral is a religious building located in the center of the city, showcasing a mestizo architectural style that combines viceroyal influence with Andean artistic expression. The baroque-style cathedral was constructed over 80 years and completed in 1757, boasting beautiful carved ornaments on its facade and interior. Two bell towers standing at 30 meters guard the structure.
The Puno Cathedral is a stunning architectural gem in the heart of Puno. Its intricate design, rich history, and breathtaking views from the towers make it a must-visit attraction. Exploring its ornate interior and learning about its cultural significance is a truly enriching experience. Don't miss the chance to appreciate this beautiful piece of Puno's heritage.

My partner and I happened upon Puno on Easter Sunday. Heaps of people were at all the major cathedrals with palm weavings. Some were intricate and some were huge! The congregation spilled out into the streets from the front door. Very interesting sight. We passed the Puno Cathedral after their evening mass. Some community organizers were selling sandwiches, hot chocolate, and humongous Easter eggs. Sadly, we couldn't get an egg since we were traveling, but my partner and I had the sandwiches and hot chocolate on the very photogenic cathedral steps. Very memorable experience.

The Uros Floating Islands, a group of around 90 artificial islands made entirely of reeds, are a must-see destination. Located on Lake Titicaca, these islands offer a unique glimpse into a completely different way of life. The inhabitants have built and maintained the islands using Totora, a type of reed native to the lake. A visit to these self-sustainable islands provides an opportunity to learn about the region's culture, traditions, and crafts.
(Translated by Google) Very impressive how the Uros built the islands. Of course it is a bit touristy, but still very fascinating. The reeds used to create the islands must be renewed every 15 days. There is the possibility of walking to buy some souvenirs or taking an original boat ride (although this is pushed by a small motorboat). This way you support the community a little.

Sadly our trip felt like a money grabbing opportunity for the families we visited. Felt forced to buy something, and you have to pay for a boat trip on top which is 15 soles each which we did not know about. Then the children sing and ask for tips on top of all this. We realised afterwards that we were sold a pillowcase for DOUBLE the price it was on the mainland. We feel ripped off.

Tourist trap. Didn't learn about the history of the floating islands, was pestered to buy souvenirs and asked to go on a boat trip for an additional price which was then marked down by 1/3 even though other tourists paid full. We decided not to go and the woman wouldnt take no for an answer. I think we said no atleast 10 times. They tried to sell a magnet for 30sol which was then brought down to 5sol, what a joke. We had to wait for other tourists to eat at a restaurant at the second island and sat in the boat for 45min. Don't waste your time.

It was the worst experience ever. I've been to many places around the world, but this one is really the one you should avoid. Firstly they will try to almost beg you to buy something from them. Ne, t you are forced to use the so-called "optional" wooden boat trip.
Never ever again. Trust me, it's totally not worth going there. Don't waste your holiday time coming here.

The Process of the Formation of Reed Island and Aboriginal Life on the Island
Amantani Island, located in Lake Titicaca, is a popular destination for hiking and homestays. It features ruins from both the Inca and Tiwanaku civilizations. A majority of tours only day trip through neighboring Taquile without continuing north to Amantani. Visitors can experience a unique stay with families who cook on open fires in dirt-floored kitchens and meet children who walk long distances to get to school each day.
Native Quechua community where they keep 500 year old traditions. This island is also Vegetarian but the Quechua island near by, called Taquile eat meat. The island is made up of 10 communities and about 100 families. Women in each community wear a different color skirt to identify which community they are from . Leaders can only serve one tern in their life time, and serve 1 or 2 years. They have solar panals for light and to use a radio or charge a battery . Most of the island's residents have lived almost all there life on the island. It has beautiful scenery, to get to most houses, there are fields to cross, maybe a little creek and maybe some Inca stairs to climb. The families are very kind. The younger generation learns spanish in school and the older generation might or might not speak much spanish. It is a beautiful culture unique to this island. There are tours and home stays allowed.

Homestay was allowed with firendly families. They couldn't speak spanish, but we mangaed to get to the essential needs for the day. It is peacfull, the views are stunning, so are the colours of the fields at sunset and early morning. You walk around, meet some locals going on with their duties and the day goes on.
