Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Chacas
Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Chacas is a stunning architectural gem dedicated to the Lady of the Assumption. Originally built in 1587, this adobe brick church underwent a remarkable transformation after earthquakes in the 1970s. Thanks to the vision of Padre Ugo de Censi and the Don Bosco wood-carving cooperative, it was rebuilt in a renaissance style with a striking wooden door.
Went there to have breakfast with the volunteers instead of our hotel.
They were very nice and shared their lives with us, giving us coffee, bread, and cookies.
Then we went to the church and met with the priest, and he invited us to see their main square where boys and the girls were singing. We also went to see the artisan shops where they do amazing artwork.

National park & twin-summit mountain, Peru's tallest, popular with mountaineers & climbers.
Mount Huascaran, Spanish Nevado Huascarán, mountain peak of the Andes of west-central Peru. The snowcapped peak rises to 22,205 feet (6,768 m) above sea level in the Cordillera Blanca, east of the Peruvian town of Yungay. It is the highest mountain in Peru and is a favourite of mountaineers and tourists. In 1962 a thaw caused a portion of the sheer north summit to break off, resulting in an avalanche that destroyed several villages and killed about 3,500 persons. In 1970 a severe earthquake caused landslides that buried 10 villages and most of Yungay; tens of thousands of people were killed in one of the worst natural disasters of the 20th century. Amazing.

One of the best things I've seen on my trip around south America. I had been told good things about laguna 69 and I was not disappointed. The scenery was stunning and I was amazed at how quite and tranquil it was. I'd definitely recommend coming here as it's such an stunning bit of nature!
Calum Taylor — Google review
What a spectacular hike! Everywhere you look is gorgeous. The hike isn't too strenuous unless you're feeling the affects of the altitude. It takes about two hours to get up to the lake and there's plenty of places to escape from the majority of the other hikers. Try to go early because once the busses arrive there are a ton of people on the trail.

sybren huitink — Google review
Probably the best day hike in the area.
The climb to the lake at 4,600m is a bit strenuous, particularly if not well acclimatized.
It takes roughly three hours from the road to the lake and about two hours to come back down. Near the entrance there are some facilities and a couple of guys selling drinks/snacks, but I suggest that you don't rely on them being there. Take at least a litre of water.
Entrance for foreigners is 30 soles.
Richard Parker — Google review
The first part of the trail is pretty easy, but once you climb above 4000m, it gets tough on your body.

Christophe Ribault — Google review
Absolutely fantastic - the kind of places that is definitely better irl than in any instagram adultered post. The hike up is ok, the views are beautiful, and the last bit psycho torture :) but the moment you see the plaque with the name of the lagoon and the lagoon behind it.. it is just the reason everyone hikes. We were lucky with the weather, but only for a few minutes. The clouds settled in quite fast.
If you go on an organised tour from Huaraz, get ready for a long three-hour drive to go and another 3 hours back, with half of it in very bad and bumpy roads.

One of our favourite hikes in South America. Fairly steep section in the middle and final 30 minutes but also quite flat in the middle and the beginning. Lots of waterfalls and stunning scenery along the way. The lake was beautiful and not too busy. 4600m up and around 14km round trip
Jack Barry — Google review
Love love love! The trail was beautiful, and the lagoon was awesome! The blue color looks amazing, definitely worth the hike (although the last km was quite hard).
We joined the tour from our hostel, the tour was good. The guide barely can speak english but he tried to explain as best as he can. The tour timing is good, we arrived quite early, not too crowded there. Very enjoyable experience in general :)

Paron Lake is a stunning alpine lake located in the Cordillera Blanca mountain range, surrounded by snow-capped peaks. It offers various outdoor activities such as kayaking, boating, hiking and camping. Some of the popular hikes include Laguna 69, Paron Lake and Santa Cruz trek that provides breathtaking views of the mountains. To acclimatize for multi-day Peru treks at high altitudes reaching 5000m absl.
Truly stunning place. At the moment only reachable through Caraz since the street is highly damaged and not passable due to a landslide (see picture).
Desi D — Google review
One of epic place to go. But the way to get there is very hard…
IJ R — Google review
The lake is stunning. The backdrop is from the paramount logo. The only downside is it’s a long drive from Huaraz where we stayed and not a long hike. You just explore 20 minutes walking up to viewpoint. Meaning it was a very long day for only a little walk
Jack Barry — Google review
Probably the best lake to see around Huaraz, before Churup and 69. Try to spend at least one full day there, meaning one or two nights in the refugio (ask in Caroline Lodging, Huaraz, for info) or camping. Use the full day to walk along the lake or even hike up to have a panoramic view of the lake and the Artesonraju glacier. Entry is free but access is difficult (tour or taxi)
Neozaru — Google review
Incredible place to visit! Its an easy day trip from Huaraz. The hike itself is totally not challenging and takes around 2/3 hours max.
The only tricky part are the big rocks you walk on, however this isn’t anything dangerous. The view of the lake is incredible.
The water is so blue that it almost looks fake. Such an incredible experience! Hope for some good weather :)
Michael — Google review
Stunning place! The color of the water doesn’t seem real. How does it get that color? The light blue with the snow capped mountains in the background feels surreal. Like you wonder… can this be real? Is this real life? The beauty that exist in this world, and especially in Peru, is inspiring. 100% recommend coming here. If you have the time and the legs I recommend doing the trek from the entrance
Brendon Carrasquillo — Google review

Very beautiful, not too hard to climb. It's a 5 hour drive from Huaraz or 1.5 hour from Caraz. 5 Sol entry fee, definitely worth it.
Shooki Matzliah — Google review
Definitely worth the bumpy and long drive! Stunning lake surrounding by mountains with snow peaks. Arrived late afternoon, however, had few minutes of sunshine while boating into the lake, which could see the full view of the lake but wasn't able to get the panoramic view. And sadly no souvenirs at all. If have the opportunity to revisit Peru, I'll sure check it out again!

We ended up staying at this hostel for four nights after a fairly stressful experience with very dangerous altitude sickness (it's at 2200m if you find yourself in the same problem!). It was a really lovely place to relax and recover - the host was super friendly, the room was really clean and nicely decorated, and the food in the restaurant was yummy. The museum was amazing and in both language. Even if I speak Spanish at a intermediate level, I like to read in English to save time. There was a lots of ancien artefacts and many room to discover. The only thing is when I bought our ticket, they didn't told me it was going to be close at 5 pm. So in the end I only had 1 h to visit the museum. The small bus bring back in Trujillo for 2$ soles . Don't pay more than that.
Trujillo boasts a historical hub featuring colonial structures adorned with appealing balconies and lace-style windows. The area is home to various religious edifices, such as the Trujillo Cathedral, Iglesia de la Merced, and El Carmen church and monastery. Alcor Show de Caballos Peruanos de Paso is a remarkable spectacle set in a ranch-like environment that offers great value. The Paso and Marinera dances performed here showcase the unique Peruvian Caballo de Paso breed.

A very relaxing experience. The best place to hang out in Trujillo. Visit the museums at the Federal Reserve bank and the house of identity, both across from the plaza.

The beautiful Plaza de Armas, cultural center of Trujillo, has been surrounded by history since the viceroyalty era. Around you, find the cathedral, the municipality, restaurants, and hotels from which you can receive the best experience and attention. You can't stop visiting it.

It's not the biggest main square in Latin America, not the most elaborate one, but in my opinion, certainly one of the best.
I like the clean, elegant, simplistic, open space design of the square.

Trujillo Central Park is an excellent public square surrounded by public buildings, government offices, and churches. There are nice restaurants in the area. The park and surroundings are well maintained and clean. Policies are present at all the corners.
The Trujillo Cathedral Basilica is a beautiful, brightly-colored church on the plaza de armas in Trujillo. It's home to some amazing religious artwork and is a great place to stop and look around.
The most beautiful church in Trujillo.

The art in this Cathedral is exceptional. Carvings and paintings are the highest quality. This is an active church. Some paintings are haunting while others are uplifting. There are many realistic sculptures of Jesus being crucified. There are also several depictions of saints. If in Trujillo make time to visit and spend some time.

Chan Chan is a significant pre-Columbian archaeological site in America, known for its vast adobe complex adorned with art and carvings. Located just 10 minutes from Huanchaco, it attracts numerous tourists daily. The ruins are part of a larger adventure that includes nearby sites like the Huacas del Sol y de la Luna and Huaca de Bruja. For surfers, the proximity to Huanchaco's renowned surf makes it an appealing destination.
Awe inspiring place for its huge scale more than anything. The mud carvings are attractive and lots of conservation and repair work is ongoing. The museum is a little small and dated but the city makes up for it.

Peru is more than just Machu Picchu and Chan Chan is a great example for it! It’s just outside of the city Trujillo and the site is breathtaking! It’s is definitely worth to travel there and how see Chimu civilization built this incredible city around year 860.

It's better to go to the museum first and then go to Chan Chan. Amazing place, take with you a lot of water, sunblock and a hat...

Super cool preserved ancient city. Get a tour guid for the extra $$. Helps a lot. Not many interpretive signs.

Nice archeological site, arrive early so the sun and heat doesn't ruin your experience. I like the place , but those roofs take away the magic (I know they are needed for the protection of the site) . Parking could be a hassle if you arrive late.
Adolfo Martinez — Google review
Extremely underwhelming. You cannot actually visit the city. You walk for half an hour on a road and can visit only one enclosure which is just empty, boring and only a small part of the walls are original. After visiting the amazing Huaca de Luna, this is a dissapointment. They put no information there at all. All interesting areas are closed off.

Amazing site, definitely worth the visit. The sheer scale of the site was very impressive. We paid 69 soles for a guide at the site, and though pricey we were grateful for all the history and insight and felt it was well worth the money. The ticket cost also includes the museum entry.
Pippa Rook — Google review
I came here with my two pals and we thought it was ok. Upon arrival we found out it was 10SOL each for entry to the Chan Chan site and the museum. We decided not to get a tour guide as we though the 60SOL fee was excessive. We walked around the site and found it interesting but felt it was set up to need a tour guide as there was little to no information provided in either English or Spanish. We wanted to know how much of it had been reconstructed and a few other simple details. The toilet facilities were pretty good although the porta loo was very hot and I came out sweating a lot. This places is also under construction so I would imagine that one day there will be a lot more to explore.

Unusual construction method for Latin countries. Where other early cities are of stone, this one is made of clay.
Very interesting.
The size of this site can't be appreciated until you stand in its midst.
Wonderful wall art.
The rubber walkways are a welcome upgrade. Not having to watch every step, improves the experience.

I really loves it!! The museum was beautiful, although I didn't get to listen to a guide's explanation it was pretty easy to understand through the notes. We enjoyed looking at the way they used to live and the representation of their lives through the mannequins was really useful too.
Huanchaco Beach is a great restaurant with delicious ceviche and excellent views of the beach. The dishes are expensive, but they're worth it for the quality of food.
It was a great experience by trying causas and their special ceviche with huanchaco sauce. Really enjoyed every second killing my dish.

I spent 2 months in Mancora eating the best ceviches and this Ceviche (Huanchaco Beach) is by far the best I have ever eaten. Fish looks good, seasoned and made super-well and tasty. Big portion.
I gave it 4 stars just because it is expensive, for a fish ceviche I payed 39 /s which is quite a lot.

Very interesting museum and artifacts a lot of history. A must see.

Not quite as impressive size wise as some of the other archeological sites we had visited. However the number of tombs discovered so far really give an insight to the changing burial techniques over time. A lack of funds has temporarily stopped any further excavation. If you visit Peru it is still worth the effort.
David Finch — Google review
Pyramids nowhere near as impressive as later Inca, Azrec or Mayan structures and they have been greatly eroded by rain. However the excavations show an advanced culture fir ghe time. The museum gives an excellent interpretation and there is a room full of gold clothing, ornaments etc that the Spaniards missed giving us all a better insight into the distant. past

The ancient Huaca Cortada (100 to 700 AD) is visible 500 meters beyond the Museo Cao site museum at the Complejo arqueológico El Brujo in northern Perú. Huaca Cortada is an adobe Moche stepped truncated pyramid 22 meters high. The gash on the front of the pyramid may have been made by grave robbers. The Complejo arqueológico El Brujo is famous for the ancient Moche murals on Huaca Cao Viejo which were created by first laying down a thick layer of mud on which the design was drawn. Then a thin layer of color was applied. One of these ancient Moche mural may show a supernatural being half bird and half snake. Another features the principal Moche diety Aiapaec (the Decapitator).

Sometimes I feel simply 5* wouldn't do justice. This place could easily deserve 10+*. This is an ancient archaeological site that was occupied from preceramic times. The Chicama Valley can be considered as an archaeological microcosm. Huaca Prieta is the earliest part of the complex but the biggest constructions on the site belong to the Moche culture. In this area, there are also the remains of the later Lambayeque and Chimú.
The site is very nicely developed, very well maintained, and the information system (including, of course, guides) is very good. The open air displays as well as the museum is amazing. Not to be missed.

Huaca Rajada, also known as Sipán, is a Moche archaeological site in northern Peru in the Lambayeque Valley, that is famous for the tomb of Lord of Sipán, excavated by Walter Alva and his wife Susana Meneses beginning in 1987. The city of Sipán is dated from 50–700 AD, the same time as the Moche Period. Wikipedia.
The leafy urban park, Las Musas, showcases statues inspired by Greek mythology. Its pathways are wide and it encompasses a playground as well. Additionally, there is the Paseo de las Musas, a scenic walkway featuring statues of Greek goddesses that adds an unusual touch to the cityscape. The Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipan, located in northern Peru, is a remarkable pyramid-shaped establishment dedicated to exhibiting intricate funerary objects from the pre-Inca Royal Tombs of Sipan. Opened in November 2002, this world-class facility features a carefully curated collection displayed with great care and attention to detail. Photography is not allowed, and visitors must have their bags checked before entering.
Fascinating museum! Very interesting to learn how the old moche culture (before the Inca's) lived. Photos were allowed to be taken inside, our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable (in Spanish, I don't know whether English is possible too).

An unexpectedly fascinating, detailed, and informative museum about a culture which is little-known outside of Peru. The exhibition of artefacts along with explanation of the excavation process and sections about the issue of looting of archaeological sites in Peru works really well. The entrance fee is also very reasonable.

I can understand why this is considered the second greatest archeological find of all time. I was lucky enough to visit this museum and meet with Walter Alva. To heart the story of the discovery from his mouth was incredible. The museum has pieces that will blow your mind. The condition is spectacular, the variety is incredible, the craftsmanship is second to none, and of course, there is a lot of gold. My personal favorites are the Pachamama's, but there is so so so much on each floor of the museum. Even if you're not a museum person this display will leave you speechless. It's well worth the trip.

The Bruning Museum, though overshadowed by it's more illustrious neighbors, is still well worth a visit. What it lacks in shear quantity of gold and treasure it makes up for in the way it contextualizes the artifacts and history of the region. The collection is fascinating and beautiful and is organized so as to elucidate the succession of cultures and the ways in which they were influenced by their predecessors and neighbors. The museum also shows photographs and diagrams of how the artifacts were found and excavated. Very informative!

I am really sorry to see that Tucume management have forgotten Thor Heyerdahl and that they have not done any escavations after Thor left in 1994. I hope the Peruvian cultural departement fix this problem because Tucume could be one of the 10 most interesting places to see in Peru because of all the pyramids. I am Norwegian and read Thor Heyerdahl book about the escavation in 1995 and now all the pyramids are closed for public according to guide Johan with Moche Travels. The museum is open but this is a museum and not the real thing. Guide Johan let us se 2 pyramids from 300 meters distanse for 5 minutes. Not Worth it for total 150 soles.

A bit lacking in explanation and not that much to visit, I think about 2/3 is closed but we walked around anyway. You can't visit the sacred stone (that was closed off). We did route a+b, which I would recommend, but route b is a quite a long walk to get to the excavation site, which you just walk around. There's a bit of information, but not much. If you are going to Trujillo, it might be better to save your visit for the Huaca de la Luna, which is 15min away from Trujillo and a better site to visit in my opinion.

We caught a combi to Tucume from Lambayeque and then walked to the museum. After a long and very hot walk we arrived at the museum and were told the site is closed due to the rains, and only the museum was open, but without a discount in price. There was no way to view the pyramids up close. Then we couldn't find a moto to take us back to town, so we had another long walk back. I wouldn't recommend visiting unless you can confirm the site is open.

The museum offers visitors a chance to learn about the ancient Lambayeque civilization that inhabited the region from around 1100 to 1400 AD. It houses a collection of artifacts excavated from the Túcume site, including ceramics, textiles, tools, and religious objects. These artifacts provide insights into the daily life, religious practices, and artistic expressions of the ancient inhabitants.
