Don’t use the guide tour, they are scammers!
Old town feels like being abandoned with lots of homeless. Don’t feel very secure to walk around.
Don’t use any guide tour! They said one hour walk tour, 50 BRL per person. During the tour, there was very little introduction and walking very fast to rush us, took us to shops so they get commission fee, but we actually don’t buy anything. And after finish, they asked 50% more, and insisted cash!!! We don’t want to risk our security since they are a bunch of guides around us and push us to pay! They are the scammers!

great place for visit, and really secure, have a lot of guards there, but the restaurant or how we called "bars" are no that good, I had to wait almost half an hour to get a drink there, no one came to our table to take down our order, but for visit it's cool, and if u wanna make some friends, or making money playing or selling your art, or anything, there's is a lot of people there that can be interested on it

A nice square with multiple options for food and drinks. However a lady came up screaming at us to give her money and kept following us even after we left the square when we said we had nothing to give. Luckily we lost her. Francisco Brennand's workshop and museum contains a wide range of his ceramic artworks, paintings and sculptures. The studio occupies an abandoned brick factory once owned by the artist's English relatives. Open hours are Monday-Friday from 08:00 to 17:00, and admission is charged.
What an amazing place. Such an unusual setting for an art gallery. The grounds and the factory buildings were amazing and the gentle music added to the atmosphere. Such an extensive collection of artwork. www.thehungrytravellers.blog

Very impressive collection of the multitallented artist Francisco Brennand. The first sculpture room lack titles and could have some explanatory texts to help understand his genius. Totally recommended!

The place is nice, but it’s lacking a guided tour or posters with explanations. You feel lost inside, not knowing where to start or what’s the story of the place. It’s also very expensive to get in, 60 BRL. The coffee shop could have decent coffee

This is a must-visit place in Recife if you like modern, daring art. It does contain quite a bit of phallic imagery, but a in abstract (it is the style of the artist). It's a beautiful indoor and outdoor museum. Very clean, and relaxing.
Beatriz Almeida — Google review
Exceptional!
The location seems surreal and the composition of art, architecture and landscape is stunning.
Don't miss the sketches and paintings, they are of excellent quality and show the diversity of Brennands work. The idea to show so many works of a single artist in a place designed and developed by himself creates an unique atmosphere.
Visiting this place felt like diving into another world... definitive a must-visit in Recife!

The Ricardo Brennand Institute is a world-renowned cultural institution, home to an impressive collection of military and weaponry artifacts as well as artworks from various periods. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and include a sculpture garden, parkland, and gardens. The institute is located in the historic Forte de Sao Joao Batista do Brum district of Recife.
Amazing collections, art, weapons, and marble sculptures. The castle is full of history and beautiful scenery.
kranky24 — Google review
Nice collection but completely unorganized in any thematic or chronological way. Even the main exhibition of Dutch presence in Brazil is mixed with random pieces of sculpture and porcelain. Most of the pieces lack information or they are too small printed. Even more shocking is the text praising the Dutch colonization as a positive thing. The collection needs a good and critical curatorship work to transform it in a Museum.
Diego Brito — Google review
Incredible museum by the Brazilian art collector and businessman Ricardo Brennand, one of the best I have visited apart from The Louvre in Paris.
I recommend at least 3 hours to browse through all the buildings and some more time if you want to sit down for a coffee in the lovely Cafe or eat something in the restaurant.
The Institute holds a permanent collection of historic and artistic objects of diversified provenience, ranging from Early Middle Ages to 20th century, with strong emphasis in objects, documents and artwork related to Colonial and Dutch Brazil, including the world's largest assemblage of paintings by Frans Post.
The Institute also houses one of the largest collections of armory in the world, with 3,000 pieces, the majority of which were produced in Europe and Asia between the 14th and 19th centuries. The library has over 62 thousand volumes, ranging from 16th to 20th century, including a collection of brasiliana and other rare items.

One of the best and most unique museums in the northeast of Brazil, if not all Brazil. A must-visit if you’re in the northeast!
The Dutch tapestries and the history of the Dutch in Brazil is fascinating, as is a vast building filled with thousands of weapons from the last hundred years. Add in the stunning gardens filled with capybara and monkeys strolling around and playing and this truly is a memorable place to spend a few hours.
Cafe and restaurant on site too.
Entrance is $50 BRL.

This is definitely one of the best museums in Brazil, probably the best outside Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. There is a wide variety of arts, from sculptures to painting, that cover different moments of history. The main exposition is about an important parte of Brazil, which is the Dutch occupation of the northeast, that happened in the 17th century. The building where the museum is gorgeous. The price (in Oct. 2020) is R$30, with half price for teachers and students. There is also a great restaurant there but it is quite expensive.
Felipe Duarte Balocco — Google review
A lovely and somewhat eclectic museum on beautiful grounds. I especially enjoyed the Brazilian section with tapestries and paintings from the Dutch occupation in the 17th century. Well-worth a few hours’ visit.

Ricardo Brennand Istitute is located in a inspiring and breathtaking place where you'll be able to enjoy nature and arts. Boa Viagem is an urban beach located in Recife. Unfortunately known for accidents with Sharks, it is a very good beach to spend the day, on the beach out of the water. If you go, go early, as the sun sets early on the beach due to the large buildings that hide the sun from 3 pm onwards.
Anne Justino — Google review
Wow, what a beautiful beach! It was one of the first things I discovered when I arrived in Brazil. On one side, there are palm trees swaying in the breeze, and on the other, the mesmerizing expanse of the sea. Day or night, the beach comes alive with the vibrant energy of Brazilian life. The air is filled with the infectious beats of music, and the surroundings are adorned with a kaleidoscope of colors.
However, it's important to be mindful of a particular safety concern. Recife ranks among the top 10 places in the world for shark attacks each year, so it's crucial to respect the designated safe limits in the water. By staying within the recommended depth, you can enjoy the beach while minimizing any potential risks.
In spite of this, Recife remains an incredible destination for sun-seekers and beach lovers. Beyond the shoreline, the city offers a plethora of experiences. Its vibrant atmosphere, pulsating music, and rich cultural heritage instantly captivate visitors.
For an authentic and lively experience, Recife is the perfect choice. Take the time to explore the city's historic center, where you'll encounter architectural treasures that reflect its colonial past. Additionally, don't miss the chance to indulge in the tantalizing flavors of the local cuisine.
In conclusion, Recife boasts a breathtaking beach and a festive atmosphere that will leave an indelible mark on your memories. Remember to exercise caution in the water and seize the opportunity to discover all the wonders this incredible city has to offer. Don't let it slip through your fingers!

Vale a pena!

(Translated by Google) I have to make some considerations about the beach and natural pools. To have a good experience, you have to buy the raft ride (R$50.00/person). I went on a day with a tide of 0.5, and cloudy weather, there were showers of rain. From the beach you can't see the beauty shown in the photographs, the water is a little murky. Because of the rain, water that contained sewage ran through the sand, it was in a tent on the left side of those arriving via the Porto de Galinhas sign. As the tide goes down, umbrellas will be set up in front of you, making the experience of staying on the sand chaotic. So pay attention to the ideal weather, tide and time of year conditions to avoid disappointment.

When I arrived it was raining but it was still possible to enjoy it. Sea of calm, warm and clear waters, in several points it is possible to observe the fish.
Here's a tip for family trips to save money in Porto. The city hall provides guides every morning who take you to visit some natural pools for free, it's worth waking up a little earlier to take advantage of the opportunity.
When dealing with commerce, I recommend preparing as things are very salty, but you can save money by looking carefully.

Paying 50 reais per person, they take you on some "Jangadas" (raft) to the pools and let you snorkel for 1 hour.
Important when going is:
-See tide table since it is important that the tide is low to take advantage of the reefs and see fish
-Go early so there are not many people

(Translated by Google) Scam Alert!
Unfortunately there are many "guides" approaching all the time and offering tours to the natural pools, they charge the same amount as the association R$50.00 (but the association has nothing to do with these guides) and an additional R$40.00 per person to take hundreds of photos, but when they arrived at the pools the photographer, who in my case was an Argentinian, took about 6 photos and wanted to charge another forty reais for the mid-water photo 😡 in other words, the tour would cost R$130.00 per person. My tip is just buy the tour directly from the association cabin, in the middle of the pools there are photographers or even rafters with Go Pro and other types of cameras who take those beautiful photos that we see on the internet, I don't know how much they charge but I certainly don't. This is nonsense!
Note: the tourism authorities, the association or I don't know who, should monitor this situation better, it is very uncomfortable and annoying to have to avoid these fraudulent approaches all the time.

Praia de Maracaípe is a white sand beach known for its surfing. It has entered into the national and international calendars of surfing thanks to its clear waters and strong waves. This makes it dangerous for swimming, but also attractive to visitors for its natural beauty and extensive coconut tree network. Coconuts are affectionately called "Maracas" by locals. The beach is frequented by important surfing tournaments as well as longboarders.

Capela de São Benedito Igrejinha dos Carneiros

Sights & Landmarks
Green & white landmark chapel built in the 18th century, backed by palms & with sea views.
Ok, I wrote in another review about Carneiros Beach so I'm not gonna repeat myself...Anyway, it's a famous place to visit here, kinda unique and also kinda crowded, all the tours go there in same time and there is a line if you wanna take picture in front of the church...But still I think it's a place you should visit since you are in that area, it would be a shame not to...with or without crowds you gonna have nice time, for sure 😊

Wonderful chapel located right in front of the beach Praia dos Carneiros, with amazing views of this little piece of paradise. This is the most beautiful and most famous chapel in Brazil so there are always people here, but if you arrive before 7am you will be almost alone. Unfortunately the property is private so it's not open to the public.

This is a nice place, it's located in a resort area. However it is strongly recommended that you speak the language. We came here in July there's a lot of seaweed on the shore and water clarity is poor...the weather is really nice about mid seventies and if the sun is out you will get burned. Overall a good visit but there are better areas if you like people watching and clear water.

Praia de Tamandare boasts a pristine shoreline adorned with fine, pale sand and crystal-clear azure waters that gently lap at the shore. The tranquil waves provide a serene ambiance for relaxation. Although marred by an abundance of seaweed, this issue could be readily resolved if the local authorities prioritized the needs of tourists. Nevertheless, numerous beach bars abound along the coast, offering a wide array of refreshments and delectable snacks, not to mention appetizing lunch options.

Nice white sand beach with light blue water and calm, gentle waves and the temperature is just right. Unfortunately the entire beach is full of seaweed which could have been removed by the municipality if they cared more about the tourists. There are however plenty of beach bars offering all kinds of snacks and drinks as well as some lunch meals. I can recommend this beach for your family to relax, or go for a ride on the banana boat or water bicycles.

This relaxing beach café offers casual bites and beverages, as well as rentals for umbrellas and chairs. In addition, the beach has a pool of warm water that's perfect for swimming. Despite the beach being relatively crowded, it does have some waves so it's still enjoyable.
Excellent beach. Clear and calm waters.
You can walk to the corals when the tide is low (5km aprox)
There are small bars that rent a table with beach umbrella and chairs as long as you need only by consuming a 'petisco' (which is a kind of fast food).
There are also 'beach vendors' that provides ice creams, 'cocadas' (kind of sweet cookie made from coconut and condensed milk, excellent), coconut water... etc.

This tour agency offers natural pools and coral reefs for swimming and snorkeling that are surrounded by white sand beaches. These waters are incredibly clear, giving them a very bright blue colour. There is plenty of variety in the fish and corals here, with some surprising colours and shapes. The catamaran trip here is definitely worth taking, as the pools are stunning on their own, but they're even more amazing when viewed from a boat high in the water.

The place itself is very good, the room has everything you need to be comfortable: good mattress, good shower, large bathroom, good air conditioning. Breakfast is very good and complete. However, there are no markets in the surrounding area where you can buy food or even a bottle of water, so you must pay what the inn requests. This particular accommodation, because it is small and not on the beach, tries to provide you with lounge chairs and an umbrella. Anyway, at lunch time, you end up looking for a hostel, because the place does not provide food. And since in those places they give you the umbrella and the lounge chair with the drink you end up staying there, hahaha... at least that's what happened to us... The beach is nice, you can walk to the natural pools, I recommend wearing water shoes now there are hidden urchins and sharp corals under the water. The beach may not appeal to everyone, since the dynamics are determined by the rise and fall of the tide... for many hours the water reaches your knees no matter how much you walk (a kilometer calmly). Happy stay!

Feliz estancia!

Great experience, place, and beach, with good food from what we ordered, though service was a bit slow when we needed a cooler.
Kasper Dueholm Borg — Google review
Live music they have every day from about 12-4 always sounds the same and is ridiculously loud. Hurts the ears of patrons and pollutes the calm natural environment of the beach and nearby hotels. Only in Brazil would this be allowed… unfortunate.
Tyce J — Google review
Really bad music and awfully loud. No protection against covid. Bad service. I do not recommend. At all. The beach is beautiful, but the club disturbs with the horrible music.
Maristela Gaudio — Google review
I honestly can’t believe someone would pay 80 BRL for this. Looks like a 3 stars hotel’s pool and the beach is really not that great. It’s really unbelievable people would pay to enter 😅
Iddo Grover — Google review
The beach chairs could be better and the drinks with more ice but on the other hand the service and the food are awesome.
Thiago Aimi — Google review
Great experience. Very nice way to enjoy praia do Toque. Stayed at the tables on the beach (which do not cost extra). Delicious food (crunchy shrimp and the shrimp and octopus duo were very good) and good drinks. Superb service. They set us up with a cruise to the natural pools for R$80 each person. Good snorkeling.

Verifiquem sempre toda a conta !!!

Praia de Sonho Verde is a stunning beach destination that offers a serene and tranquil atmosphere, making it perfect for a relaxing getaway with friends and family. With its mesmerizing natural beauty and calm waters, this beach has been a favorite spot for visitors since 1976. The absence of large crowds adds to the appeal of this "Green Dream" beach. As the tide rises, the beauty of Praia de Sonho Verde becomes even more captivating.
I have been going to Sonho verde starting in 1976. This is by far the best beach for its natural beauty and calm waters. No big crowds and a real Green Dream as the namesake. I have been a property owner since 2006 and will be building next to Sonho verde very soon.

Hibiscus Beach Club is a luxurious beachfront restaurant in Maceió, Alagoas, Brazil that we fell in love with. With an impressive infrastructure that we rarely find in our travels around the world, Hibiscus charms us with their attention to customer care, delicious food and perfect atmosphere for celebrating with friends or family. The Hibiscus is located at Praia de Ipioca, 20km from the heart of Maceió.
Great place, specially if you have small children, lovely place with all the necessary support and amenities.
The beach is quite nice and and is even secluded, so apart from the people at the Club there will not be many people around.
Best thing is to arrive early to get one of the gazebos. Otherwise it will be only the tables left. Great view!

Been twice now, both times I really enjoyed it. Great structure, clean throughout. They cater for kids very well with activities throughout the day. Lots of sun loungers and chairs. Good food too. If you want much more privacy pay for the Lounge area.
BUT!!! It is very expensive hence the 4 stars. If it were a little cheaper it would be a 5 for sure.
Glen Chapman — Google review
If you have seen many beautiful places in the world like I did. This is not one of them. The structure is very simple and service was poor. I expected more for the price we paid (40 reals). Do yourself a favour and find a nice beach where you don’t pay any entrance. It will be better.
Jonas Vanderhaegen — Google review
Very expensive and pretty much poor information on what you can and can't do with the entrance fee, the food was so expensive, like 2 or 3 times de entrance fee (which costs as a very good dinner in Maceió). The place was clean and the view was good, but the beach was FULL of rocks (obviously those came from the construction of the Hibiscus) so it'll be nice of them to clean em up.

Praia de Jatiúca is a vibrant beach that offers a variety of activities such as swimming, windsurfing, and biking. It also has vendors and bars for visitors to enjoy. This beach is the best choice for gastronomic options in Maceio's urban beaches. Additionally, it boasts the best waves in town, making it popular among surfers who often participate in surfing competitions held here throughout the year.

Av. Dr. Antônio Gouveia, 1447 - Pajuçara, Maceió - AL, 57030-170, Brazil
Praia de Pajuçara is a bustling beach with tranquil waters and opportunities to take boat trips to famous pools just off the coast. The beach features soft white sand and calm, light blue waters with gentle waves, making it perfect for families looking to relax. Visitors can rent beach chairs for a reasonable price and enjoy a variety of snacks, drinks, and meals available for purchase.
Awesome beach, really worth visiting. Between November and March, if it's not crowded you just walk along the shore and you will be offered seats ("cadeiras") under a sunshade or sunbrella for R$30. It might get really crowded on Sundays.
Cristian Bravo Lillo — Google review
Plain awful. The water is disgusting and it is unclear as to whether the water is muddy or if it is sewage. We walked the entire length of the beach and didn’t find it suitable to get in at any point. The sand itself is fine. I cannot understand how this beach gets such high ratings. Avoid this beach if planning on getting in the water.

Nice white sand beach with light blue water with calm, gentle waves and the temperature is just right. There are plenty of beach chairs to rent for about R$ 15/day and they offer all kinds of snacks and drinks as well as good size meals. I can warmly recommend this beach for your family to relax.

Disheartening how absolutely disgusting this beach is. Unless you are into loud sound bars from every other group, into piles of trash mixed with algae, and into muddy ocean floor, this place is not for you. The 2 stars go to how this beach looks from far away: pretty ocean reefs and blue sea water. Unfortunately up close, it is a disappointment. Avoid!
Daniel Taranto — Google review
Nice place for shopping and eating, the beach is beautiful but bathing is more complicated due to the dumping of the open air sewer into the ocean... Go to Marechal Deodoro instead.
