Beautiful place to visit even during raining time ! Just be careful of the wooden steps they are really slippery

Beautiful place, as the village and all the surroundings. The park itself seems to have been absolutely amazing not so long ago, but it already need a bit of an upgrade.
Gisela Cruz — Google review
Great little village. I'll have to return when it's a little cooler to complete the sensory walk. I was a little surprised to find that nowhere was open for food and drinks at midday in the middle of June.

Was a lovely place to visit. The parking is big so there's enough space for everyone. There is a picnic area to sit and eat your snacks. The garden is big enough for a nice walk through multiple areas. The village is cute and all made of stonewalls. There are a nice variety of small cafes.
Diana — Google review
Small stone village, with multiple picnic tables, and a small thematic/sensory trail under the trees. Very pleasant! Worth the small drive and stop! You can take your time and have a few peaceful walks around, stay in b&b, eat at the restaurant or simply come by for quick walk and picnic.

Pia do Urso is a beautiful small village with a friendly bar and a great restaurant.
The park itself is really interesting, there are good signposts and the paths are easy to walk.
I really enjoyed our stay there.
Christine Donaldson — Google review
It was quite nice but really not a long round. There were a lot auf families on a Sunday won't recommend going there on weekends. The village was nice though. and you should be able to walk a few steps on uneven ground.
Julia Eberhardt — Google review
I love this spot, specially the houses made of stone, the nature and the pace of life. I just think that unlike when you go to the North of Portugal and visit those little villages, there's no animals roaming around like sheep or goats... It's very lifeless in that sense. It would be nice to see more animals, it would be more authentic.
Nonetheless I would totally recommend coming here to check out the stone houses and wind down from a busy city life.
Amazing bar with nice relaxed music and cheap prices. The food is great as well.
Attention if you go friday/saturday night and arent a smoker because it is allowed to smoke inside and gets filled as it is a small place.
Otherwise, great environment and nice staff

Jardim das Portas do Sol, located within the old Santarem Castle walls, offers a stunning view over the Tagus River and the Dom Luis bridge. It is a popular spot in Santarem, with its shady walks perfect for picnics or leisurely strolls. The garden sits on the site of the Moorish citadel and provides panoramic views of the Tejo River and fertile Leziria flood plains.
Beautiful garden at the edge of the city with the old city walls still in place. Beautiful views of the river and the valley. A must visit place on Santarem. There's a cafe to sit and relax with a cup of coffee or a glass of beer.

It's a city park integrated within the old city walls. Very nice views over the Tagus river. The place could be a bit more well maintained and is lacking some a café or restaurant, besides the one already there. Some of the fences were damaged and there seemed to be some work being done but not sure what it was and it seemed abandoned. Still very worth the visit, a landmark of the region for sure.

Igreja de Santa Maria da Graça is a stunning 17th-century baroque Jesuit church located in the impressive Praca Sa da Bandeira square. Special thanks to Luis for taking the time to show me around this beautiful church and explain more about the history. I had booked my trip to Portugal very last minute and hadn't done my homework and didn't realise what a special place Santarem was but due to Luis I decided to extend my stay by a day and see more of the place when I was less exhausted and could enjoy properly. Thank you Luis!

It's fascinating to see a process essentially unchanged for 800 years. The salt is nice too. Best plan is to be there over lunchtime, some good, traditional restaurants in the area.

This Salt area has been in existence since 1177. There are little shops run by the local folks where you can purchase lots of interesting items. There is also locally made olive oil available.

An interest salt mining location in the center of the country. It is not big and can be crowded on weekends. It has some parkings and places to eat or grab a snack. It shows the way salt is extracted from the ground. It is like a small wooden village with souvenier shops. Well worth a visit...

Beautifully preserved village detailing the history of salt production in the area. Easy walking and a very interesting place to visit for a few hours.
Nearby hills provide further circular walks within the national park.

Not much salt production to see as the process takes an age, but some nice little café, restaurant, and bar, plus numerous gift shops selling local crafts, and of course, locally produced salt.

The Castle of Óbidos, a grand medieval fortress with origins dating back to the 9th century, offers hotel rooms for booking inside. Situated strategically to provide a commanding view of the city it is named after, this castle has maintained its remarkable condition throughout centuries and serves as an excellent destination for history enthusiasts. Its construction commenced over a thousand years ago during the 8th century when it was fortified by Muslims.
A charming village with narrow cobbled streets and loads of ginja( sour cherry 🍒 liqueur) to sample. You can walk on the old castle walls, admire the view and stop by in one of the many cafes or little shops that sell all types of wares. If you want to spend a pleasant afternoon this is the place.
Raluca — Google review
Great historic site to stroll through with family and grab lunch. The historic town is still active, and you can walk either straight though the main street and residential areas of winding narrow roadways all the way to the main castle/now hotel point. If you don't fear a little height, walk the entire perimeter of the old town to the castle along the old guard walls where it will lend great views to the interior and also the exterior cascading hillsides nearby.
G Roberts — Google review
A historical place to promenade and stroll with free entry. The story behind this castle is romantic.
Embrace all beauty and magic that this site is offering!
I commended all people who climb the lofty, jagged narrow pavement! So courageous of them!

Super nice castle! The entire outer wall is preserved and one can walk over it entirely, surrounding the village of Óbidos.
The house in the inside are very beautiful and picturesque. There are many shops, souvenirs and restaurants. Almost no scammers or annoying people!
It’s also not very crowed so you’ll for sure enjoy your experience. I recommend parking somewhere outside the walls along the street as there is plenty of space.
Enjoy the sunset on top of the walls. You’ll like it.

This town is a must to visit. It gives authentic medieval vibes and it is full of nice shops and restaurants. Very typical is a local cherry based liquor ginja. If you have the chance to and visit this place. Very easy to reach and good parking spots. In summer time there is also a medieval festival
Nicola — Google review
It's free to walk the wall and the streets of the town. To do so you will have to climb some pretty steep stairs without guardrails. Great views from the walls and towers.
Paul Watson — Google review
Beautiful, picturesque, climatic place, its a hidden gem of Portugal, especially in the evening. Strolling trough the narrow medieval streets , food and local stuff: such a nice experience. It's a must go place!
Marcin Malek (Malq) — Google review
We went there to enjoy a stellar sunset from the wall and it was breathtaking. After entering the main gate just on the left you will see some steep stairs - and then some more! It climbs up quite high, the stones are slippery and there is no safety rail so I’d recommend comfortable but non-slippery shoes. We’ve seen a lot of people with slippers which seemed quite unsafe.
Inside the castle there is plenty of restaurant and shopping opportunities and to try the local ginjinha sour cherry liquor which was excellent.
Ed Zillmann — Google review
Beautiful castle with great view! The wall is fun but it could be quite dangerous as it has narrow steps and has no rails.
Keren C — Google review
Such a magical place to visit, and only just an hour outside Lisbon.
Busier during the Medieval Festival, Chocolate Festival and Christmas Festival.
Great to wander around the small streets within the castle walls and admire the great views of the Obidos countryside.
Nuno Castilho — Google review
We came from Lisbon and arrived around 2pm. It was very packed with tourist but by 5-6pm everyone was leaving on their tour buses, so we had a good experience walking almost by ourselves in the town. I would say that you just need 2-3 hours to see the whole town and to go around the walls.
It’s a beautiful little pace to visit but you don’t need the whole day to explore. It has nice restaurants and souvenir shops.
Karla Rodríguez — Google review
Definitely worth a stop to this old medieval castle town. Nice narrow Cobblestone streets and walk in the castle. Cute shops and eateries. Hand made items much cheaper than Lisbon.
KB Raif MD — Google review
A nice castle where you can walk along the walls that encloses the small town and has some great views. Once we entered the castle we climbed up the stairs and walked counter clockwise to the villa at the far end. Once there we walked along the base of the wall on the outer side to get away from the sun while still enjoying the awesome views. Inside the walls there are shops and restaurants where most of the tourists from the buses mingle.
Sal FromCal — Google review
Such a fun place to go to! You can walk on the walls but they are without any rails and are steep. But I enjoyed walking there with my family and taking some cool pictures. There were places to eat, shops to buy souvenirs, houses, church. Loved the experience. We also drank ginja cherry liqueur in chocolate cups. Lots of places selling it for 1.5-2 Euros.
Sanjeeta Pai — Google review
Slice of history is well preserved but sadly cannot be fully explored. The castle is a luxury hotel and no entrance unless a guest at the hotel. There is parking on the roads by the castle and the roads are not that bad to drive. Once you park you can walk towards any of the steep steps or sloping roads to access the fort area.
The town inside the fort area is amazing with cathedrals, shops, houses. There are beautiful flowers everywhere making this town a fairytale place.
The outsides of the castle, medieval set up are all great to enjoy and view. The medieval fair was not much fun, sort of a dry show depending on the timing. We saw the falcon show and it was not worth it and we felt sorry for the birds. They should not be living in cages.
The fortress walls can be explored, walked but care must be taken as there are no support walls on one side most of the way. But worth walking to enjoy the glory of the forts history, views. There is a local bakery with vegan choices, amazing taste.
The shops here sell the local cherry liquor Ginjha de Obiedos and you can sample it before buying.

I visited on Palm Sunday. There was a lot of activity, music, theater, and of course a lot of people. Tried Ginjinha de Obidos, a cherry liquor shot, soaked cherry, in a chocolate cup. We found a path outside the castle. Very green and beautiful countryside.

We went here in the good bright weather. Óbidos is really a special city. We stopped here on our way back to Porto from Lisbon.
You can explore the castle inside freely. We climbed and enjoyed the view. There are not many visitors during our visit at the end of January. It has museums , a cathedral, and a beautiful landscape view. I remembered that we do not pay any ticket admission.
Parking for cars is available nearby.

A lovely and nice medieval old town. You can explore the whole town just by foot. There are a lot of restaurants in the old town, we tried the paella (not traditional but still amazing, flavourful and tasty) And the Portuguese styled steak (which isn't that good but still nice and lovely.
A lot of stairs, so you might be a bit tired. But you can get a nice cherry alcohol chocolate shot all for around one euro A shot. You can too sit and relax at a small cafe and order coffee and pastries.

Had an absolutely wonderful time on this sunset tour (at high tide) on the Tagus River. Our guide, Pedro (? - not sure, sorry!), was very friendly and patient. There were a couple of children on the tour, and he was always answering their silly questions and making jokes about the "trunkodiles" (trunks+ crocodiles) in the river. Their eyes wide open as they listened to what he had to say. He pointed us to many different species of fauna and flora, frequently slowing or stopping the boat so we could observe a bird, the fish or the horses. He also explained how the tides influence what happens in the river (even this high up), how the water hyacinths are endangering the river and its species, among many other things. Although the tour is called "sunset", we didn't see the sun actually set from the boat, as the tour finished at around 8:00 and in August the sun sets almost at 9:00. But you can see it from the pier, which is also beautiful. I called the company up twice because I had several questions. (I had thought about taking someone that was using crutches, but ended up going just with a friend). The person I spoke to (Rui, if I'm not mistaken) was not only quite nice, but also very accommodating to any special needs we might have. I'm hoping to repeat the tour next Spring at low tide.
Ana Costa — Google review
Loved the extended guided boat trip. Didn't book it so no idea how it works but there were 15 of us on a boat trip which lasted a good 2 to 3 hours into the wetlands of the river where we even saw some wild horses in one of the islands.

Bacalhôa Buddha Eden is an impressive sculpture park located on the grounds of a winery in rural Obidos, Portugal. The park features stunning Asian-inspired gardens with pagodas, lakes, and terracotta soldiers. One of the highlights is a giant Buddha statue that dominates the landscape. The park was created by art collector Jose Berardo as a response to the Taliban's destruction of cultural heritage in Afghanistan.
Beautiful place... Pet friendly and really really big. There's a lot to see and walk inside. Also, if you want to taste a delicious local wine it's possible. In resume, I'd visit it again. If you are looking for a place to have a good time with family/friends/couple, this is it.

Wow! Didn’t expect much, even with reading the reviews and looking at the photos… but WOW, again. You have to visit this lovely place to fully appreciate how wonderful it is. You can easily spend a full day here enjoying the beautiful landscape and amazing world class art installations. What an incredible find! Would love to visit again in the spring or summer with everything in bloom.
Andrew W — Google review
It has many, many great sculptures in both stone and metal art forms. We really enjoyed it and will return again. My only complaint is that there is a bit of a mixture of cultures as at the entry area there is a Roman influence and then there is a large area devoted to Africa and then the Buddha area but it's only described as the Buddha Eden gardens. I think the Roman statue area should be removed and the garden divided by vegetation into the African area and the Buddha area as that would make sense. I would like to see more foliage in the Buddha area with corner to allow meditation with trickling streams and seating. At present, the Buddha area is in a vast open expanse of land which doesn't seem appropriate to me. Overall a good place to visit and take a multitude of photos of the amazing sculptures.

Absolutely worth a visit!

Huge place that has a variety of art, animals and vegetation, palm trees, bamboo shoot paths and local trees. Large bodies of water with picturesque views all over. They even have a great wine shop with many just 3 euros. Lots of snack bars and washrooms around also great shady areas. Only 6 euros to get in lots of walking but tons of are all around. U could grab a train as well for an additional 6-8 euors(I don’t remember) but I walked it with no issues. A must if u are close by to the region.

It’s a place to visit and enjoy. Beautiful gardens, arts. Tou can choose to walk or use the train to visit the interior of the park. They have a small restaurant there with not fancy but good food and a “bar”, for some snacks. Some areas are not accessible with wheelchair, and even the train is not accessible, which is sad. But is definitely a beautiful place and I recommend the visit.

A really special gorgeous, place. As a South African I just loved the incorporation of the stone art in the maze as well as the mass display of metal art, and the colossal Buddha's were magnificent. The garden itself is very well thought out and planned with a clever mix of local and imported plants that are low maintenance. Great place.
Rute Alarc?o — Google review
The Buddha Eden gardens have to be some of the most peculiar places that I have ever seen. The gardens are huge, and they set the stage for a gigantic open-air art exhibition, with sculptures crafted by some well-known artists. And that for an entrance fee of only five euro. For an additional price, you can ride aboard a touristic train over the garden's streets. At the exit there is a souvenir store with a wide variety of affordable, local wine. I visited the gardens for only three hours, but I could have easily spent a whole weekend there.
Ian Witte — Google review
Beautiful garden filled with breathtaking sculptures of various traditions as well as modern art sculptures.
The price is fair, and we spent 2 hours looking at the plants and sculptures in the park. The staff are friendly and spoke English with us, we will definitely be visiting there again.

Stunning.
Totally recommend visiting if you're I'm the area. If you visit in the summer months, make sure you get a ticket that includes a train ride as walking all of that in the heat would be dreadful.
It can be expensive €12 entry + €12 for the train per person, but it's worth it, and I imagine they also spend a lot on maintaining the park - it was clean and in pristine condition.
We walked through various areas and very much enjoyed it all, including the African section. We also stopped for an ice cream for the kiddos and sangria for the ladies ;) - they were the size of a fish bowl.

That incredible place that everyone should visit in Portugal. Easy to find, there is no preparation and you need to pay the entrance fee – not expensive. You can choose to walk or use the train. I recommend using it because the place is huge and you can stop in specific places, walk a little, take photos and catch the train again to move on. On the way out, you pass by a convenience store and can buy wines at a great cost. Have a good trip!

It's such an amazing place. Definitely need not less than two hours to indulge in nature and the sculptures available. So quiet and peaceful. Entrance fees are 6 €. You can additional 6€ for bus tour instead of walking . A map is available at the location to navigate through. The place requires private transportation or arranged tour. No public transportation in the are.

An amazing park, Buddha Eden has hundreds of statues, from a gigantic recling Buddha and dozens of other gods and mystical beings. There are also a whole lot of metal and stone carvings and statues. Well worth a visit.
Mark D'Cruz — Google review
A surprisingly large and beautiful garden with an Asian atmosphere, where you can enjoy a peaceful walk for a few hours. Only 10 minutes drive from Obidós. Lots of Buddhist but also Chinese statues (this mix is a bit confusing). Somewhere in the back of the garden we found many peacocks, locked in cages that were too small. Why are they locked up and not walking around freely? Very sad, not animal friendly and against the Buddhist way of thinking/living and the peaceful appearance of this garden. Hopefully this will change! And 1 more tip: serving in the café real, fresh coffee instead of the one from the machine, would make a big difference ;-). For the rest: worth a visit!

I loved it! Really cheap entrance (only 6 euros). The garden is massive and took me a few hours to walk through everything. There is nice restaurant by the entrance ( u pay around 18 euro per person and it includes dessert, coffee, soft or alcoholic drink, main meal of your choice and salad).

This place will make you go: " how the hell did this happen? In the middle of nowhere?" As you explore the property and the wonderful Asian and other artistic inspired sculptures, you will absolutely fall in love with the peaceful surroundings and the involving nature that surrounds the whole thing. Plus the souvenir shop has tons of wine ...so yeah..GO THERE if you happen to be in the area!!
Baleal Island, located about 5km northeast of Peniche, is a picturesque peninsular island that serves as a popular hot spot for swimming and water sports. It is particularly renowned for its excellent surfing opportunities. Accessible via a narrow causeway from the mainland village of Casais do Baleal, this island-village features a stunning sandy beach with numerous surf schools and bar-restaurants dotting its shores.

Beautiful place and a great beach for surfing. Sometimes the waves are to high and scary, but usually it is good for my intermediate-beginner-learner level ;)
The beach is smaller than the other Baleal beach (sul), but usually has better conditions for learning to surf. But it is also cool to sit there, there are some rocks that can protect you from the wind.
One thing though, there are like two big rocks 🪨 in the water, that you can’t see from the beach. Be carful when you surf there not to hit one of them when falling off board. Other than that, it’s a great spot.
Highly recommend, for surfing, lying on the beach or maybe even doing some tough on the sand :)

The Fort of Peniche, a fortress built during the Renaissance era, has a rich history as both a seaside fort and a 20th-century prison. Today, it serves as the home of Peniche's Municipal Museum. The fort is situated on cliffs and rocks overlooking the port of Peniche and is known for its picturesque scenery. Visitors can explore the museum in the afternoon after planning accordingly. Additionally, camping is popular on the nearby island while enjoying excellent fresh fish from local restaurants.
It was closed but it’s still a beautiful place to see from outside

An early renaissance fort guarding the old port of Peniche with a long history, stretching all the way to the 1970s. The place opens only in the afternoon, so plan accordingly. The place overlooks cliffs and rocks and is very picturesque.

The place is very original, you have a rough and particular service, but if you don't take it seriously, it's fine. The food is regular, nothing amazing, but not bad at all. Good menus, check them.
Osvaldo Genco — Google review
One of my favourite stops at this amazing architectural masterpiece which served as an imposing defense to the honour of Portugal, which was sadly tainted when, under the dictatorship of Salazar, the fort was turned into a state prison, housing around 2000 political prisoners over the ages, who suffered the most degrading injustices in this place, reminiscent of the soviet era at its worst.
Exciting escape stories, prisoners sketches & letters, prison records and cells were profoundly moving for me.
The museum is a must for a tiny entrance fee, where the history of Peniche, its trade, the fort and the battles fought, as well as its more recent history as a prison. Absolutely fascinating.
Our deepest thanks to Dona Ana Luisa, an employee for over 2 decades who was kind enough to open the chapel and told us some great stories.
Get there soon, the fort is due to be closed to the public for a prolonged period (years) for much needed restoration works.

Cabo Carvoeiro is a stunning Atlantic promontory featuring awe-inspiring cliffs and distinctive rock formations that attract a diverse array of seabirds. This remarkable landscape boasts spectacular island views and is regarded as one of the most extraordinary destinations globally, making it a must-visit location for every traveler seeking natural beauty. The region's exquisite scenery is truly remarkable, evoking feelings of wonder and enchantment within all who behold its breathtaking vistas.
A lovely place to watch the sun go down the horizon.
It is common for people to gather and drop by to watch the sunset. If the sky is clear, one is able to see Berlengas and Farilhões.
Sometimes, at night, if the sky helps, one is able to see various fishing boats together in the South of Berlengas. It kind of looks like they are having a party (even though that's not the case).

The views are spectacular! The waves crashing on the rocks are just phenomenal. You can hop in a car an drive around the area until you get to the lighthouse and walk some more by the rocks but be careful as you may fall this is not a closed off area. There's some unofficial parking, and there's always lots of people around taking photos of the magnificent sightings. As you drive around you will see some crosses on the way from people that have died, so please be careful if walking, biking or driving and not paying attention to the road, there's lots of curves and it's a very distracting view of the ocean. There's some chapels along the way, since it's Portugal there's always a chapel or a church nearby... And as always just beautifully crafted and meaningful to the area. This is a great place to visit, to have a nice picnic, have some inspiration, meditate (if that's your thing) and take lots of pictures of nature. The shot I took was as close as I felt comfortable to go walking on the rocks, you may get a lot closer just be careful, have good shoes on and watch your step.

My family and I went on a tour and wine tasting at AdegaMae, and the experience we had was incredible. The winery itself is an absolute gem, showcasing meticulous attention to detail in every aspect. Our tour was made all the more enriching thanks to our guide, who provided us with insightful and informative commentary throughout. But the real highlight was the wine tasting session, which can only be described as phenomenal. Each wine we sampled was expertly paired with traditional Portuguese dishes such as pica pau and choco frito, elevating our tasting experience to new heights. I can't go without mentioning the stunning interior of the winery and the impeccable service we received, which truly added to the overall charm of our visit. We will be definitely coming back!

The Oceanario de Lisboa is a large aquarium in Lisbon, Portugal which showcases a wide variety of aquatic species. It's divided into four habitat zones, and the central tank is home to an impressive array of sealife. The attraction is great for children, and there are plenty of other sights and attractions in the surrounding area too.
Certainly the best aquarium I've ever been to. So peaceful and relaxing. The animals look well cared for with lots of space. There is plenty of space to sit and observe the large tank with the sharks, rays and more. More expensive than most tourist attractions in Lisbon - but well worth the cost.

I recently visited this aquarium and it was an incredible experience! The variety of sea life on display was truly impressive, and I was in awe of the vibrant colors and intricate details of each exhibit.
The aquarium is very well-maintained and clean, and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They were happy to answer any questions I had and even provided interesting facts about the different species of fish and marine life.
One of the highlights of my visit was the large tank with several different species of sharks swimming gracefully around. It was an incredible sight to behold, and I could have spent hours just watching them swim.
Overall, I highly recommend visiting this aquarium. It's a great place to learn about sea life and appreciate the beauty of our oceans. I can't wait to go back and explore more of what this wonderful attraction has to offer.

Love this place. Make sure you allocate lots of time to actually enjoy it. Lots of people and tends to be quiet busy so be prepared for that. Average time spent here I’d say is 2-3h. They have a gift shop at the end (of course) and a nice little eatery place.

Now this is how an ocean aquarium should look like everywhere. It is so clean, well maintained, with healthy biodiversity. It is not very big, but it screams quality over quantity. And don't get me wrong, it is not lacking diversity or things to see, oh no. It has everything you want to see in an aquarium and designed in a very smart way. I go to the local aquarium anywhere in the world, where I travel despite the fact that I also dive a lot, but I have to say, this is one of the best ones. Great job.

My partner and I had an amazing time here! This was top of my favorite places we had ventured off to in Lisbon, and highly recommended! The time and effort it took to get this place off the ground and operations is absolutely remarkable (all explained in a video inside, highly recommended to watch before going through it all!)
You have two options, you can wait for a cheap night kind of like a cocktail hour! but the line can be fairly long and typically a family things with children (cheaper so makes sense!) If its just two...i would recommend going anytime!

In Europe this is one of the best aquariums available. It’s quite big, a great place to visit and has a great collection aquatic creatures. Well maintained and worth the time.
The Underwater Forest is gorgeous, so take a moment to sit down and appreciate it instead of rushing past it.
The aquarium in general can be very crowded and busy, so don’t go during the weekend, but go during the week.

Felipe Nogueira (PePeTD) — Google review
Easily one of the best aquariums I've been to. The design and layout of the place is very well thought-out, with the central 'main' tank being visible from a total of 8 main viewing windows across two floors and several smaller windows; the benefit of this is that you don't get the usual crowding of the main exhibits and when we visited on a Monday afternoon we were able to take our time in taking in the incredible atmosphere of the underwater landscape. It's amazing how close you can get to the stars of the show unlike other aquariums. The building is divided up into quarters, each relating to a different part of the world. There were some very surprising exhibits like the sea otters and penguins. I liked the inclusion of seabirds too. Finally, I loved the message of the aquarium, was particularly surprised to hear Carl Sagan's pale blue dot monologue in one of the rooms, very much sums up the message they want to leave you with. A must-visit place if you enjoy aquariums.
Reece Spencer — Google review
An amazing aquarium to visit in Lisbon! Outside the building stood a tall mascot resembling a scuba diver, welcoming us upon entry. Once inside, we were greeted by walls adorned with blue Portuguese azulejo tiles, evoking the depths of the ocean. To reach the main building, we crossed a bridge. The aquarium was well-curated, boasting a diverse array of marine life and fish species, alongside a large glass tank at the center of the building. Undoubtedly, it ranks among the world's best aquariums, offering an experience worth every penny! Suitable for visitors of all ages, I highly recommend a visit to this remarkable place!
Patrick Min — Google review
An exceptionally awesome place. Everyone irrespective of the age would enjoy this place. Make sure you aim to spend at least two to three hours here. We were here for 1 1/2 hours but we felt that it was too short. It has a wide variety of fishes and other species. The place is very well maintained. If you are visiting Lisbon, make sure to include this in your itinerary.
Law Pundits — Google review
A very large Oceanarium with a huge central ocean basin that is the main attraction. This can be viewed from different locations and from different levels. You practically walk all around it.
There are also numerous other aquariums and areas to explore. Penguins, reef fish, a giant octopus and more. There is also a tropical forest.
Children can have fun with a little diver. This is available as a figure or in digital form and playfully teaches waste prevention and explains how life in the ocean works.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the restaurant on the second floor. The ambience did not seem very inviting. However, there was a nicely designed bistro on the first floor after the store with delicious food and very friendly staff.
We also enjoyed the additional exhibition "Forests under Water" on the upper floor near the entrance.
The entrance fee for 2 adults and one child was just under 60€. Unfortunately, we could not buy the online ticket because the website did not allow correct information when entering the mobile phone number (too few characters possible in the input field, country code can not be entered).
So we stood in line for about 15 minutes, so it went quite quickly at the ticket line.
In total we were there almost 5h, a great day in a fascinating place, especially in bad weather.

I had an incredible time at the Lisbon's aquarium, it's probably the best one I have ever been to. Hands down even better than Sea Life in London!
All the tanks are so well kept which made it enjoyable to walk through the aquarium. There's a massive pool / tank right in the middle of the aquarium which has so many different fish (including sharks!!). We absolutely enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend.
Perla B. — Google review
This aquarium has some pretty neat fish, sharks, starfish, and more. Overall, there were a lot of cool things to see here. However, we went during the happy hour, which gave us a big discount on ticket prices, and this ended up kind of tainting our experience here. It was so packed that you had to wait and then squeeze yourself through loads of people just to be able to see any of the exhibits. While we day pay only 7.50 per person, it may be worth it to pay the normal price for a less crowded experience.
antonio nunes — Google review
Cane to visit during our first trip to Lisbon, totally worth it. A little out of the way from the city but easy to get to. A great idea for a date day. Would recommend going in the evening (around 4 or 5pm) when it’s less crowded. The underwater forest is a must see

I highly recommend checking this out with your family if you are in town! It was incredible!

The place is absolutely amazing and very good for learning as much as enjoying. the superstars of the place are the two magnificent giant artic otters.
The location is fantastic and there are plenty of places where to eat either before of after visiting the aquarium

Absolutely blown away by the marine section, spent over and hour just in there exploring all the differing environments. And seeing how all the inhabitants interact with their environment.
And then onto the main reason for coming, to sit and admire Amano sans masterpiece. To just sit and take in the sheer scale of the plants and how they have grown to gigantic proportions. To admire the fish and seeing them meander amongst the plants was stunning.
Flown from the UK just for this, and was worth it. Will be coming multiple times during my stay, just so I can absorb the ambience at leisure.

We had a great time here, me and my 2 boys (3 & 4) visited and loved it. We went off peak so we didn't have a problem with it being too busy. We got to see lots of animals and learn a lot. I loved how different it was to other aquariums I've been to and it was cleaned and well maintained. Sea otters were my favourite
Paige Paterson — Google review
Excellent aquarium, lots of different sea creatures to see and many spots to view the main tank from. The main tank is by far the main attraction because of its immense size and diversity of creatures living together including a surprisingly large school of fish. The animals almost all appear to be happier and more engaged than at other aquariums we've been too because they are less crowded in their tanks. My main recommendation is to not waste too much time trying to look at the main tank at the beginning of the path because they are often the most crowded. Instead, go to less crowded viewing areas later on.
Robert Vida — Google review
This place was amazing! They have a huge tank in the middle with all kinds of fishes and baby sharks and the aquarium was built around the tank so no matter where you go or which floor, you have a view of this tank. They have benches for you to sit and just take in the view, peace and quiet. I loved the penguin section and watching the otters swim. It is a must if you are visiting Lisbon.

Not the best aquarium in the world as advertised but still fine. Always crowded during Summer and on weekends. Book in advance. During the visit do not forget to spend time with the otters. They are amazing creatures.

I loved everything about this place. The staff was fantastic, courteous, and were multilingual. The displays were huge. I mean huge. There's a giant tank in the middle that you can stop and see in-between seeing all of the other exhibits. And all of the exhibits were incredibly educational (great for kids), and fun to watch. None of them felt forced, it was just the animals in their "natural" environment. I strongly advise going here for a day trip. You can also bundle tickets for the cable cars in with your ticket to the aquarium, so you can quickly and easily get to the mall and restaurant strip ~1KM away

My boyfriend and I both loved it! We were in Lisbon on vacation and discovered that they had this aquarium that was really well known. (How I missed it in my planning, I don't know!) I love going to aquariums in the cities I visit and I think this was probably my favorite after Atlanta's aquarium. There were a lot of exhibits, information was posted all around so you could know what you were looking at, and the animals were all really active! We got to watch the puffins get fed and that was a lot of fun. Their ocean tank in the middle was massive and you could see it from every angle as you walked the building. We spent I think 3 hours there and were in no rush, so I would say you want at least an hour or two set aside for it. Overall, great experience and I would definitely recommend making a stop while you are in Lisbon.

Esplanada Dom Carlos I s/nº, 1990-005 Lisboa, Portugal
The Museu Nacional do Azulejo is a heritage museum in Lisbon that houses a vast collection of Portuguese azulejo tiles. This distinctive art form has been popular in Portugal for centuries, and the museum features an informative permanent exhibition on the history of the tile as well as numerous photo-worthy spots. If youre interested in learning more about this distinctive Portuguese art form, this is one place you should definitely visit!
This is included on the Lisboa card. It's a little out of the way but worth the trip on the bus.
I'm giving it five stars mainly because of the glorious church that you enter about half way through your visit. It wouldn't be out of place in Versailles.
The rest of the museum is interesting and many of the tile displays are impressive (especially the panorama of Lisbon towards the end), but it doesn't quite live up to the church.
There is a small (somewhat disappointing) gift shop on site as well as toilets and a fairly reasonably priced cafe that has a pleasant garden area.
Nick M — Google review
The museum was nice, but fairly small. I was expecting bigger or more intricate designs but it was mainly very similar religious imagery throughout. It was also quite a bit out of the way. Nothing else to see in the area. The cafe was very cute though. There was also a cool courtyard in the middle.

This was a beautiful and large museum on breathtaking grounds. The chapel was a lovely surprise, full of detail and well maintained. The history of the tiles as well as the variety made each room unique.

Excellent, one of our best stops while in Lisbon. Especially liked the exhibits that showed step by step the various tile making procedures. Don't miss the amazing 1700 panorama of Lisbon display just before leaving, it's easy to miss this when exiting. A must see for anyone who appreciates Lisbon's tile-decorated buildings.

Well worth the visit! At first thought, it sounded boring. But when we went, it was great! They had tiles that were new and modern, and ancient. There were numerous different rooms. The building itself was interesting. I took a lot of pictures, and I'd go back if I return to Lisbon. Well done museum, with a cute cafe, and gift store.
Brian Martucci — Google review
The audio guide was good, would recommend downloading in advance. With both floors of the museum, it was really neat to understand some of the progression of the history of azulejos in Portugal. I didn't expect the monastery in the middle of the museum, but that was cool! Overall, beautiful place to take in. Not totally sure if it was worth the ride out this far when we had nothing else we were going to do out here.

Very interesting & nice experience. We used the rainy day to visit museum.
➕ you will need aprox. 2 hours for the visit.
If you are very interested in the art and want to learn more probably you will need ca. 3 hours.
➕ there is a small coffee shop inside

Wonderful Experience. This place was absolutely beautiful. A great place for tile history with lots of beautiful pieces from all eras. Only $8 to see such beautiful pieces of art, well worth the visit. The only knocks were: Lots of gnats for some reason and bathrooms were kinda gross. Overall definitely worth a visit.

Definitely one of the best things to see in Lisbon, it is a very unique museum! I loved not only the old tiles, but also the modern interpretation of this art and the place itself with the church inside is magnificent! If you only have time for two museums in Lisbon, let this be one of them.
Sophia Palermos — Google review
The museum was super sweet once you get inside and there is more than just tiles. Some of the paintings and other stuff inside is incredible. The only down side is the location, kind of hard to get there and away from it. Was able to get student discount here and that definitely made it worth it.
Kyle Maxwell — Google review
Definitely worth a visit. A beautiful collection of tile work. The tickets are very cheap and they do a student discount too. The cafe and the outdoor seating area were perfect to grab lunch or a snack. I thought it would be smaller but the museum is huge so you will not get bored. Took us about 2hrs to get through everything including coffee and cake at the end.
Justyna Woods — Google review
I would highly recommend to visit, but lower your expectations, there are just tiles, not so many explanations of the process, or history of it, or the meaning of them, or the historical impact. No elements to interact with. Just many many tiles! Do you need something else? Recommend to buy tickets online, pay attention that museum does not work on Monday.
Daniil Kuznetsov — Google review
$8 for a ticket, $4 if a senior or young, but we'll worth it I'd say. About an hour and a half worth of viewing material and maybe more if you delve into the history of it. The church and choir room in itself is a marvel. Highly recommend must-see of Lisbon.
Sean Rambo — Google review
It was very interesting place.
Was able to see lots of beautiful tiles. Their cafe was amazing as well. Great service, very affordable cost and food was good. Overall, highly recommend to stop by here to learn little bit about the tiles.
Jeff Hwang — Google review
The museum is housed in an old convent and is the only museum in the Mediterranean to dedicate to tiles. Do you know the art of tile-making arrives in 🇵🇹 with the influence of Islamic and there was some form of Chinese influence with the use of blue and white tiles. In the past, tiles were used to reflect ideas and revolution throughout history. With increased interaction with 🇪🇸 and 🇳🇱, more colours and techniques were adopted. Beautiful history with lovely visuals.

This museum is the perfect stop for art and ceramics lovers. It takes you on a journey through the many evolutions of tiles and ceramics in Portugal, starting with the introduction by the Moors and ending in contemporary arts, even current works. There’s an extremely ornate and dramatic cathedral with very INTERESTING displays. Find out for yourself! Plan for at least 90 minutes.
Ashley Encantada — Google review
Very cool museum with tons to look at. This can be a quick visit or a long one depending on how many stops you make but the tiles are worth looking at. There’s a ton of tourists here obviously so expect that
Jainif Marediya — Google review
When in Lisbon, you should visit this place. The whole museum has been merged with a church I suppose. The ceiling works and paintings in the church are astonishing. The tile works, both ancient and the contemporary are definitely worth the visit. There is a small gift shop and also a very cozy and beautiful Cafe there. There is a lift to the upper floors as well.
Samad Golzari — Google review
Actually super exciting, but unfortunately implemented a bit half-heartedly. Many tiles can be viewed, but a more modern or interactive exhibition would be nice. so everything looks a bit dusty - just like an old tile ;-). Still worth a visit (free on Sundays)

This is located in a former nunnery. I can only say they we were awestruck by the chapel, the reliquary and the phenomenal exhibits of the history of Portuguese time. We also had a chance to make our own times which was a great experience. Give yourself extra time because it is truly a visual feast.
Theresa Hoban — Google review
Wonder what you're seeing on walls in Portugal? This museum has the answers. Interesting overview of tiles without being "too much". Not to mention the building it's housed in is a 1500's convent. I was also blown away by the amount of tiles they are processing in their work area. Spend an hour and you'll learn a lot. Plus the cafe is set in the pretty covered courtyard.
SixpetsBeth Smith — Google review
I was glad I made it to the tile museum, the space is incredible- it is laid out in a way where you feel that you happen about a natural wonder by accident— a hidden staircase, a courtyard, and incredible temple, and even basic rooms were filled with amazing tile pieces and the very top floor had some amazing pieces of Lisbon Landscape.
The cafe on the ground floor is very cozy and there is an impressive outdoor eating area. They close for one hour in the afternoon from 1-2. There is plenty of benches and a comfortable courtyard entryway if you wish to wait while it’s closed.
The was no wait when we arrived at 2:15p. And we could easily walk through the place to see the exhibits.
Minus 1 point because there were some areas that didn’t seem well utilized, you could also see in the courtyard some excess storage of tiles that could possibly be more prominently showcased.
Grant Donnelly — Google review
This museum was definitely one of the highlights of our three days in Lisbon. It is housed in an old church and monastery which was extensively decorated with blue tiles. The showpiece is a magnificent Baroque church with extensive blue tiling. Definitely don’t miss this part. The other rooms house spectacular examples of tile art through the centuries. A must for culture and history buffs.
Raymond Lind — Google review
A little out of the way and not very easy to get to by public transport, but definitely worth the effort. Many beautiful and interesting displays - and an astonishing (and unexpected) chapel. The cafe looks good but we didn't try it. We took a bus from Santa Apolónia metro station. There are several options but make sure that you are at the right bus stop! We found the buses to be a bit irregular so would advise allowing extra time to get there and back.
Andrew S — Google review
Great examples of tiles of all styles. This is a sprawling museum with the tile displays nicely laid out. There is one massive display that shows Lisbon of long ago sprawled out over several walls.
Think that it would have been nice for there to be a display of how tiles are actually made as we had taken a tile making class the day before which made us that more in awe of what was shown.
Priscilla McConnell — Google review
The museum has many excellent pieces and the ornate historic church that is part of the museum is also incredible. The price of admission is also reasonable. The reason I deduct a star is because I don't think the museum does a good job of helping to explain how the different tiling processes actually work. There are some stations throughout the museum that try to explain the processes but they fall short of clearly explaining how the process works (also most of the stations did not have English translations). It would have been helpful if there were video explanations and/or hands on demonstrations. Lastly, the Museum wifi wasn't working so we couldn't access the Museum app since we didn't have roaming data service.
Robert Vida — Google review
This museum is an excellent location to visit, and it is complimentary with a Lisboa card. There are three floors with numerous rooms that display tile works from various eras. Visitors can observe a demonstration of how tiles and prints were created, which is quite intriguing. The third floor provides a panoramic view of the city, entirely constructed of tiles. The museum even houses a beautiful church. When we visited, the church was open from 3 pm, but I am uncertain if this is always the case. Additionally, they have their own app that can be downloaded, providing an audio guide of the location.
Dimitrije Dinic — Google review
Fabulous display of Portuguese tiles from the Moor influence onwards. If you don't want to spend hours there, go for the Convent Chapel it is worth the price of admission alone. Stunning combination of tiled walls and gold Golding on everything else! Sounds horrible, but it's great. Beware - Chapel is shut during lunch 13.00 & 15.00.

This one was a bit of a gamble for my friends and I, but I’m really glad we went! The tiles and artwork are absolutely beautiful; the church/chapel is so intensely intricate and feels very spiritual inside.
Easy enough to get to from the city with bus/metro links. Also, entrance is free with Lisboa Card 👍🏼

Very interesting museum with a great ticket price. For families or groups it is 4 euro per person and individually or is 8 euro.
It has 3 different levels and each level is for different centuries.
The museum has elevator and ramps. Also a small Cafe.
Really great experience 👍

Went to the tile museum with a small group of friends and would highly recommend. The museum is discounted if you are a student and is free if you study art or architecture.
The building housing the museum was beautiful, and the wide range of tiles showcased — from their early origins to modern applications — were beautiful on all counts.
An underrated surprise was the cafe and adjoining garden; a lovely place to enjoy a coffee.
Would highly recommend for any visits to Lisbon!!
Pousada Castelo Palmela is an elegant hotel located in a former castle and convent, offering classic accommodations, refined dining options, and stunning mountain views. The castle has a rich history dating back to the 10th century when it was initially built by the Moors. Over time, it underwent various architectural modifications reflecting Romanesque, Mannerist, and Gothic influences.
Went on a small group tour. Our tour guide was amazing and gave lots of historical facts.

Fantastic hotel in an old castle with very friendly staff, great views and a top notch breakfast, the Pastel de Nata in particular was really tasty.
They were also very accommodating, we had early starts on some mornings and were able to take breakfast early.

A WOW out of a fairytale. Nothing beats spending a night or 2 in a castle, and this is what you get. The staff is supper friendly, the hotel and rooms very large and accommodating, food (we had dinner and breakfast) is great. I attached the view from the window when waking up - it speaks for itself. Highly recommended!

Historic location, lovely views and wonderful staff. Great breakfast was included. We also enjoyed a wonderful meal for dinner at the restaurant. Area is a bit out of the way and heavy traffic during local festival. Highly recommend to visit the castle next door and many wineries in the region. Bath top in our room needed major deep clean/ renovation.

It was nice to stay there. Loved staff's hospitality that they guided us and told about the castle history. And all of the furniture is so pretty and classical. If you like to feel a historic life, I recommend you.
Furthermore, you can enjoy its breakfast, it's fantastic. Also, the view from the window and the castle was awesome day and night.
There's a tip from me by my experience. In fact, it's a bit hard to get there from lisbon where we stayed as previous. We used the bus from oriente station, and bus no. was 4710, which is from lisbon to palmera terminal. Around 10 pm, we got the palmera terminal, and then we couldn't find any taxi there. So we walked. I really recommend you to catch the taxi at more popular station to get the hotel. It was definitely hard work to walk the slope with luggage.
But as a consequence, I liked to stay there. It was amazing.

Such a magical experience! We loved everything about our visit to this beautiful castle!
We stayed with our 4 year old twin daughters and 2 dogs. (It’s also pet friendly!) I just cannot say enough about how happy we were with our choice to stay here.
The dogs are accustomed to hotel living in the USA, and felt right at home and really enjoyed themselves. Everyone was so friendly to them, staff and other guests as well! The pet amenity was THE BEST ONE I’ve ever received at a hotel and the dogs have stayed in hotels for about 300 room nights across the USA and now Portugal.
The twins loved staying in the castle and still talk about it. The room (we had a suite) was very spacious and perfect for our family of 4 and two dogs. We never had to ask for anything because the hotel just put things where you expected to find them at every turn.
The breakfast was absolutely wonderful. The selection was great and everyone had something to eat regardless of their dietary needs or wishes. Dinner was amazing too. The twins had octopus and loved it! The servers were all so friendly and accommodating!
The reception staff were all so friendly and helpful. They really made sure we loved every part of our visit.
The views are amazing, the castle is amazing, and the staff is the best I’ve encountered so far in Portugal.

This is such a beautiful building located in an a scenic and quiet setting. Take a step back into time while enjoying the peace and quiet only few km outside of Lisbon.
The rooms in certain areas could do with a refresh as some fittings and fixtures are taking strain. That said my sheets were clean and crisp and the water was hot which is all a room really needs do for me to be happy.
Big win is that fact that this hotel is pet friendly. What an amazing warm welcome by reception for my furchild Sir Duke of Corgalot. The staff were attentive and made sure I had a fantastic stay.
Overall would highly recommend- I will be coming back.
Alfama, an ancient district in Lisbon, is characterized by steep streets where traditional crafts shops and cafes can be found. The historic no. 28 tram passes through Alfama on its way to São Jorge Castle, giving passengers a panoramic view of the city and the River Tagus from Miradouro da Graça terrace. In the evening, one can listen to melancholy Fado music while dining at some of the area's long-standing restaurants.
The Castelo de Sao Jorge is a hilltop Moorish castle and royal residence with palace ruins and archaeological museum situated in Alfama, Lisbon.
The castle was a great experience because you get a mixture of things there. You get a cool garden of peacocks, which is always very cool. There are also great views of the city from the tower and walls. There are also exhibits in a small museum inside the castle for history buffs.
There wasn't much in the way of litter. A reminder that you will be to be physically able as there are quite a few steps to get around the caste walls.

Very well preserved castle and keep. The trek to the castle is a bit, but if you walked through Lisbon for a couple of days, it won't seem bad. You can easily buy tickets online and save the time (quite the queue when we were) by going straight to the turnstiles. The views of Lisbon are magnificent and you get refreshments on site. There are toilets on site and a souvenir shop. A museum and an archaeological site to cover the historic preservation of the site. All in all great couple of hours spent.
Gabriel Radulescu — Google review
If you like exploring castles, then although most of the castle is in ruins, nonetheless there is enough remaining to climb and investigate. Not for the physically impaired as the castle steps are often quite narrow and somewhat precarious, and younger children may need to be supervised in places. However, it is great to be left free to ramble over a whole castle and imagine how it would have been in the past, defending the ramparts. We downloaded the audio which was worth the additional cost if you want to learn about the history.

Buy your tickets online and avoid the lineup! Then walk straight in! This is definitely a must see attraction when you come to Lisbon. You can get a bus or ride share to near the base but still involves walking, and the castle itself has some steep stairs and uneven ground. Some fantastic views of the city and harbour, great place to relax in the shade and read a book.

Beautiful castle and worth the legwork to get up there. Price of admission wasn't too bad, especially when paying online and jumping past the line to get it. We enjoyed some fresh crepes and ginjinha in the classic chocolate shooter (SO good!). The peacocks were a nice surprise, and there were so many of them. The mating dance was so awesome to watch, and definitely made for some good pictures and video. Can't wait to come back.

Nice big castle where you can walk along the walls and get amazing views of the city. However there’s not much information or history to engage with except a few signs and a small museum with some pottery. There are also some peacocks wandering around.
Overall I still really enjoyed it and felt it was worth the 10 euro ticket price.

What an incredible place! I may be slightly biased as this was my first official castle I’ve ever visited, but it did not disappoint. Even the long, weaving roads to get up there were beautiful. Near the entrance there is a little place to get a light lunch as well as some ice cream for reference. Getting in the castle for us was much easier as we have an infant and you are a priority entry for the castle, so we got to the front for tickets and walked in. If you don’t bring a baby, get there early as the line can get really long. Inside, the courtyard is beautiful and shaded with plenty of sitting areas if you’d like to stay and chill. The views are incredible! The castle itself is fun to explore and walk around, with several peacocks just strolling around. They’ve been fed by humans so be careful as they’ll get very close to you to try and get food. They almost pecked my daughter, which to me was hilarious 😆 Make sure you also go to the inside museum portion as some of the rock architecture inside is very beautiful and a lot of it is informative. Great castle!

A long steep walk, but great views.
Don’t think you will see an intact castle - this is ruins only.
Entry is €10 for an adult (€5 18-25)
My tip is to buy your ticket online to skip the ticket queue (will cost you an admin fee of 60c) but the line today in no shade was down the street and said to be about an hour.
With the online ticket, you show at the entrance and walk straight in.
Is it worth the €10? In my opinion, no. The €5 I would’ve been happier. Great views but not a lot of signage or information.
Tamika Green — Google review
Stunning. The views are incredibly beautiful, and the castle wasn't even crowded when we visited. It is so worth the price of admission, as Castelo de S. Jorge was possibly the highlight of our trip to Lisbon. We didn't buy tickets ahead of time like we probably should've, but the line to buy tickets on site wasn't bad at all (though I'd still recommend buying in advance). It is just so worth it for the view. From the castle, you can look down on the city in all directions; it's gorgeous, quiet, and peaceful. There are also a couple peacocks wandering the ground nearby; if you're lucky, you'll see one.

For us the best touristic attraction in Lisboa!
Starting a bit pricey (10€ regular / 5€ students) the visit is alone for the view from the castle on Lisboa, from all different perspectives, definitely worth it. You can climb on the old castle walls and will enjoy the best views you probably can have on the city.
The volume of other visitors was ok and not too stressful. The waiting line went also quite fast compared to other attractions in other touristic cities.
Besides, the cultural information in the museum and the other smaller attractions inside didn’t play a huge role.

We loved visiting the castle, the views from the top are some of the best in Lisbon! Buy your ticket online ahead of time to skip the line and beat the crowd inside. The day we visited, there was a long line out of the gate to get in, but it includes the line to get tickets, so save the time by getting them ahead of your visit! Give yourself at least an hour (if not a couple) to go through here. We enjoyed time soaking in the views, walking around the castle, watching the many peacocks, and walking through the museum where they had many different relics found on the property with some history highlights. If you're afraid of heights, don't climb up the castle walls, but there is still plenty to see if you don't go up there. My mother and grandmother waited below while I walked around the castle walls. Overall, it was a great visit!

Beautiful views over Lisbon from the castle. The castle 🏰 itself has lot of Peacocks 🦚 which makes it more a charming place. The steps are a bit narrow so care should be taken while climbing up and down the towers

If you visit Lisbon, I definitely recommend visiting this castle. Although there is nothing really interesting in the castle, you can just walk around the walls. What is really beautiful about this place is the view of the city and a nice park with peacocks.
I recommend buying a ticket online and you don't have to stand in line

You can spend quite a few hours in this beautiful castle ruin. Standing high above the city, you can enjoy a wonderful view in all directions, many of the city's landmarks can be viewed here from a bird's eye view. You can relax in the arbors, but there is also room to climb up and down, and the garden is well maintained. All in all, it's worth the price of admission.

Beautiful castle with many parts of the castle in good conditions. The outer wall and inner castle are mostly intact. The inner castle you can climb and walk around on top of it. The view from the castle is amazing because you look over the old city of Lisbon. The castle also has a museum of the archeological findings around the castle. Additionally, there is an archaeological site next to the castle. Overall, worth the visit. The entrance to the castle is 15 euro per person. There is also a place to buy drinks around the castle.

My whole family loved this place. It's in the heart of Lisbon so it is easy to reach. The castle grounds are fairly large and there is plenty to explore. There are many peacocks wandering the area, which my kids loved. There was even a fenced off area where baby birds resided.
As for the castle itself, it was impressive. The views of Lisbon are fantastic, as the castle is at the top of one of the many hills in Lisbon. It is well maintained and there is also a small indoor exhibit if you care to read and learn some history. Included in the grounds is a small archeological site, though it is roped off and only accessible through guided tours throughout the day, which we did not do.
There is plenty of shade and places to sit in the grounds so bring some snacks if you need a break from climbing all the hills and stairs. Bathrooms are available and quite clean.
Kids 12 and under are free, and adults are 15 Euro. Purchase tickets (even for the kids so they can gain entry) ahead of time online if you know you're going so you can bypass the line. Otherwise, go early early so you don't have to wait in line too long.
My family spent most of the morning there, though you could easily keep your visit to 2 hours or less. Well worth the time and money for us.

There's 2 free elevators to go to this castle.
One look like an office building and the other one is inside a super market.
We went around noon time and bought the skip the line ticket 15 euro/person to skip the line.
The line is actually not as bad as Jerónimos Monastery, but because we had a reservation at a 2 stars Michelin restaurant "Alma" so we have to skip the line.
The castle is at the top of the mountain, so we get to have many great photos look down from above.
Very gorgeous castle, and I am so thankful for the 2 free elevators.

We rode the #28 tram and got off at the viewpoint. Then we walked up to the Castle. The views from there are spectacular. You can see all around the city. In the Castle you can climb up stairs and be able to look over the walls. There are no furnishings as it was built for defense. There's also a site outside the walls where ancient artifacts have been unearthed.
The area has beautiful peacocks that strut around. There is a museum with tiles and pottery from many ages that have been found and pieced together.
There is also a gift shop and restaurant. There is a fee to get into the grounds.

We climbed the steep “road” up to Castelo. It was worth the effort. It was a beautiful day. We skirted the waiting line and bought “walk in” tickets at the door for a few euros more. The walk down was definitely easier. The alternative is the 28 tram.

The imposing Arco da Rua Augusta was built in 1873 to commemorate the reconstruction of Lisbon after the devastating 1755 earthquake. From its lofty perch, you can have a panoramic view of the city center and its impressive landmarks. The busy shopping street of Rua Augusta is home to open-air cafes and gimmicky tourist shops, while the Elevador de Santa Justa is a neo-Gothic styled wrought iron lift.
This beautiful gateway to Lisbon is located close to Terreiro do Paco metro. This looks outstanding just pay €3 euro to have the top view which looks stunning. Worth every penny.
P.S : If you don’t want to pay €3 just take the Lisboa Card then this attraction is free of charge.
Love it so much even bought a souvenir.

Obviously a must when in Lisbon! Nice archway that you can see from many places in the city. From the sea side is the best. Take a couple of pictures and enjoy it! Then walk down to the waterfront and take a look at the scenery. All in all a solid place to have a look around, would definitely recommend to stop by and have a look.
You can also go on top for a small fee of around €3 but free with the Lisbon card
Don’t forget to grab a drink and sit on the water front!!

The most underrated tourist spot in Lisbon. Not to miss, the 360 degree view is splendid . No line, just find the entrance at the bottom of the arch.

Meh... when it comes to triumphal arches go this one is as average as the rest of Lisbon. Nothing really stands out here, the arch is barely taller than the surrounding buildings and it is incorporated into the architecture around it. In other words it does not stand on its own like Roman arches or the Parisian triumphal arch. It is the gateway to the Commerce Plaza, and it acts as the capstone of the pedestrian Rua Augusta, but its mostly unremarkable and you will forget about it as soon as its out of sight.

Unique experience. Feel spirit of Portugal at place suggested by taxi driver. Must see, must feel this unique location at coast of the Atlantic Ocean especially in May when temperatures are not so high... Strongly recommended! :)

One of the best places in Lisbon, Portugal. There is an entrance to the top of "Arco da Rua Augusta." I strongly recommend visiting it. There is a spectacullar view of the city, particularly the plaza. On the top, there are not that many people, and I believe it's because not many people know about it. As of May 2022, the entrance is three euros.

Very nice place to visit with just 90 odd steps you will reach the top of the arch and see the river Tagus and the Lisbon square very well. Sunset time is best to visit as you can also see sun set on river Tagus with the famous suspension bridge

Nice archway that you can see from many places in the city. From this side it is the best. Take a couple of pictures and enjoy it presence then walk down to the waterfront and take a look at the scenery. All in all a solid place to have a look around, would definitely recommend to stop by and have a look.

A beautiful monument to the reconstruction of Lisbon. We paid a small fee (3€ each) to take the elevator up into the arch, then climbed a spiral staircase to an upper room where we saw the clock mechanism and some historical information about the construction of the arch. Another spiral staircase leads to the observation deck on top, with wonderful views of Rua Augusta and the surrounding city on one side and the Plaza and the river beyond it on the other.

Must see place in Lisbon. Looks wonderful and so nice to walk around it. You can also go up with a ticket and I would say it is worth it. You can buy the ticket easily right there and there is not much of a wait the view from the top is fantastic and you can also ring the huge bell there. Gorgeous views of the city and Praca da commercia from the top
Sanjeeta Pai — Google review
Avoid on weekends 😖 the street leading up to the arc was packed! The plaza right after wasn't as bad, but it was busy.
You also have the option to buy tickets online but I'm not sure what that is for... Monument was open to the public
Dylan Newton — Google review
Having heard this was available to climb, we went up and were greeted not only with the view from above of the Praça do Comércio, but also with up close looks of the statues at the top of the arch, as well as a timeline of the arch's lifetime.
With a budget friendly price to tickets, even if the stay is limited to 15 minutes at the top, it is worth the climb.
Just be sure to take some sunscreen or a hat/cap if it's sunny.
A Russo — Google review
You can take the lift to the top and enjoy the panoramic view. The tickets are accessible and there is no one queuing up. You can easily enjoy and take as many pictures as you want without anyone being in your way.

It's definitely worth a visit to this monument. On top of the arch, you'll have a splendid view over the square below and the centre of Lisbon. The statues on top of the arch are beautiful as well.
Another good thing is the cheap entrance price of €3,50

Beautiful square. Was here on a Sunday and it's packed with tourist. Lots of souvenirs shop, wine and beers. Streets are narrow so traffic are slow and pedestrian feels safe traversing the city.

Arco da Rua Augusta in Lisbon is a breathtaking landmark that offers stunning views of the city. Climbing to the top rewards you with panoramic vistas of historic architecture, bustling squares, and the sparkling river. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply seeking Instagram-worthy scenery, this iconic arch is a must-see attraction in Lisbon. Don’t miss the chance to capture the essence of this vibrant city from above!

Amazing views from the top and Free entry with Lisboa card. In my opinion one of the top attractions, but please bear in mind there are a few steps so not suitable for people with reduced mobility.
Last entry at 6:30pm

A must visit to the top for a stunning panoramic view of the area. It’s a partial elevator ride and several steps to the top. The entrance is just to the side of the Arco.

Arco da Rua Augusta is an iconic symbol of Lisbon's rich history and architectural splendor. Walking through this majestic arch offers a glimpse into the city's past while immersing you in the lively energy of Rua Augusta. A must-see attraction for visitors exploring Lisbon's vibrant streets.

Beautiful arch. It was built to commemorate the reconstruction after the 1755 earthquake. It consists of six columns, approximately 11 meters high, and is decorated with statues of historical figures. Located at Praça do Comércio square, it is an important landmark of the city of Lisbon.
Praça do Comércio is the most impressive plaza in Lisbon and its centre for trade. It has a panoramic view from the top of the Arco da Rua Augusta, which is one of the busiest shopping streets in Lisbon. The Elevador de Santa Justa, a neo-Gothic styled wrought iron elevator, is also worth visiting.
The all-electric tram 28 travels around Lisbon, offering stunning views of the city and its landmarks. The ride is a nostalgic experience, with a polished wood interior and chrome fittings.
Had to wait for like 20 mins, but absolutely worth it! This tram takes you to the most beautiful parts of the city. It's a nice 50 mins ride.
Bianka Cserki — Google review
This was interesting for a short time until you realized how rough the ride is. It isn’t a loop so it will take you a long way from anywhere you want to be. We jumped out and took a taxi back to our hotel.
Dr. Richard Baker — Google review
Horrible experience. The tram arrives in the middle of nowhere. Pretty much impossible to sit down for a whole ride
julia kleczkowska — Google review
To popular for its own good. It's nice to ride along on a rattling old tram through the narrow streets. But unless you really want to ride it until the end and the cemetery, then save yourself the hassle and the incredible queues. Get the Number 12. It does practically the same route through the old town and the narrow streets. Nowhere near as popular because you've all been told get #28. Almost guaranteed a seat and just as good a ride.
Danny Brierley — Google review
Very rude operaters. Expected to have exact change and, while the ride was stopped due to a broken down vehicle and asked to continue with another tram (with the same ticket), we were kicked out because we wanted to use the same ticket as instructed. Operator refused to check. Disappointing experience.

Tram 28 Lisbon is a great way to see some of Lisbon’s famous sites and access the medieval district of Alfama.
Tram 28 passes through the popular tourist districts of Graca, Alfama, Baixa & Estrela and riding the Lisbon Tram is a unique way to experience this wonderful city. The trams don’t just fill the Lisbon streets but also the air, as they screech and ding their way through the city. The Lisbon Trams date back to the 1930’s and are wonderfully preserved with wooden floors, timber window frames and yellow bodies.
In peak season Tram 28 is very busy and fills up quite quickly so you can easily end up with standing room only. Try to take the Tram earlier in the morning so you can have a seat and get a feel for the city.
Tram 28 costs €3:50pp one way and a good place to hop on is Praça Luis de Camões. Please beware of pick pockets on Tram 28,. I always feel safe in Lisbon but as in any city you really do need to be vigilant on the Trams.
John “The Little Book of Lisbon” Donnelly — Google review
Well worth it. Avoid queues by starting your trip early. (08:00h) We walked back from the final destination to the center instead of taking the tram again. Don't let yourself be put off by all the negative comments.
D W — Google review
WAY OVERRATED TOURIST TRAP! We waited for over an hour for this ride. It's luck of the draw in regards to your seats whenever the tram does arrive. If you are an unlucky and have to stand the entire ride then you really can't see much. Be aware that this tram also serves locals who ride it to get from point to point. On our particular ride we were all kicked off the tram barely a few stops into the route with no explanation of why we had to exit. So your options were to pay more money for either a taxi or hire another site seeing service like the Tut Tut , or wait for another tram that was definitely going to be crowded. If I could give less than a star I would have. Save your money and time and avoid this non customer service based trap.
John Aguilar — Google review
Not worth the 2 hour wait. Be advised!! Rides till cemetary. There you need to queue again to get back. Little to none alternatives from there. Take the 12. It’s a shorter ride, but with 100% relevance ;)
Jan Pieter Vos — Google review
Great fun both night and day. Free if you have the Viva 24 hour pass. You stop off at a number of places Alfama or just do the full circular route. Do not learn out of the windows unless you want to loose your head 😂

Horrible experience today. We waited in line for 2 hours, only to have 2 rude locals cut in front of us, then after boarding we're told it's only a 10 minute ride rather than the usual 30+ (due to some stupid Catholic holiday). No signs. No advance warning. It's just a tram... observe from the street and maintain your sanity.

Mercado do Livramento is a vibrant indoor market that has been in operation for 140 years. It boasts an impressive range of locally-grown produce such as seasonal fruits, vegetables and olives, as well as fresh fish and meat. The bustling atmosphere makes it the perfect place to experience the local culture. Visitors can also enjoy Oysters with sparkling wine and marvel at over 6000 Azulejos ceramic tile panels on display. Additionally, there are several restaurants available including a vegan option.
It was quite interesting for us - tourists to come to see real “choco” and other fresh fish. Also there is a woman who gives you the champagne shot together with oyster 🦪 for 1€ each. I was a bit sceptical as looks like it’s fresh but not very clean everywhere. However no stomachache or something- just a pure pleasure of trying something so fresh

This is an absolute must see in Setubal and I actually make a point of coming to visit even if I’m staying in Lisbon. My favourite day to go is a Saturday. It is busy but the food is fresh and amazing and the whole vibe of the market is fantastic.

Wonderful traditional coveted market with several dozen vendors. Lots of fresh fish, meat, fruit, vegetables, flowers, nuts, olives, bread, pastries, and more. Several restaurants also operate from the market. Open every day until 2:00 pm, Tuesday through Sunday.

One of the world best live market. Very hygienic and closed on Monday. The entry is free. Your body temperature will be checked. Its not such a good place for breakfast but great place to buy breads and fish. You'll be surprised to see the fresh fish catch. The visual treat to see the product and curing of the fish. Nice experience to hear local stories and get great deals on groceries.

If you're in Setúbal for a day or a week: do visit the fresh market.
In the main entrance you're welcomed by stunning azulejos (blue painted tiles that depict a scene). Then you arrive at the vegetables and cheese area with butchers in their shops at the side of the hall. Plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, olives, bakery products and more.
The second part of the hall is taken by the fish mongers and is especially spectacular due to the many fish at display. From little sardines to huge swordfish, you're going to see them all over here.
Afterward you can enjoy a coffee or a glass of Moscatel in the bar at the side of this wonderful market that already exists for more than 160 years.

A 140 years old lively indoor market offering from seasonal fruits, olives and other locally-grown foodstuffs-vegetables to fish - meat - pretty much anything one can think of. Fresh fish from the fishermen's boats arrive here each day. It's best to get here early morning for the best selection! One can enjoy the liveliest atmosphere as well as Oyester with sparkling wine. The place also exhibits some of the great piece of Azulejos (a panel with over 6000), the Art of Ceramic Tiles of Portugal. It also offers a few restaurants including the vegan one.

The oyster counter was f a b u l o u s ! Ignore all these /ignorant/ people - sorry, pun intended - who say it's not clean etc. Oysters opened in front of you cannot be spoiled. They are 200% fresh and delicious. The market itself is very clean, it smells of the fresh fish only. They also sell a huge tuna

A really colorful and vibrant Mercado with lots of variety. If you are looking for fresh fruits, cheese, breads, meats and seafood then this is a one stop market. You know it’s a good sign when it’s 90% locals who shop here. If I lived in Setubal I would definitely buy my produce and meats here.

This place was awesome. Huge with lots of vendors. They have tons of fish vendors, we were cooking so didn’t go that route. Did get some great cured meats, fresh bread and some dope goat/sheep cheese. Also grabbed a bottle of wine from the little shop that had cold greens and whites. Perfect spot to hit on the way to the beach for ready to eat food. Even better if you are staying there and wanted to cook.

Wow, wow, and more wow. Super quality products from fresh fish and meat sellers, incredible fruit and veg, artisan breads, farmhouse cheeses and some lovely speciality stalls, all set in the most beautifully tiled market house. Beautiful and historic market. This was the first place we visited in Setúbal, and it really set the tone. Produce is fresh, local, and delicious. Vendors were kind, fair, and willing to work through the language barrier. Prices were really affordable too. Highly suggest a visit if you’re in town!
Praia Tróia Mar is a stunning beach located on the Troia Peninsula, just a ferry ride away from Setubal. This paradisiacal destination offers calm and transparent waters, soft white sands, and an 18km long coastline to explore. The microclimate of the area allows for enjoyable visits throughout the year, with plenty of activities to indulge in. Praia Tróia Mar is described as picturesque and family-friendly, offering miles of beautiful beaches to explore.
Very beautiful and large stand on a headland. At low tide you can walk far into the sea. Troia is easily reached via the very frequent catamaran or ferry services of Atlantic Ferries from Setubal. We came from the south and took the very to Setubal. The beaches were empty due to Covid lockdown in Portugal and low season, but it was still amazing and worth a visit!

Incredible beach— can’t say enough good things about it! My family and I absolutely adore it.
We’ve been staying in Setúbal for the past week, and we’ve been visiting this beach almost every day. The beach takes a bit of work to get to, but it’s absolutely worth it. The ferry from Setúbal to Tróia is €26.40 for 3 people. It’s a 12-15 minute ride, and it’s a lovely experience. The views are gorgeous, and I’d recommend taking the 7:30 pm ferry back to Setúbal to catch the sunset. Once you arrive on the peninsula, you walk about 20-25 minutes along a wooden boardwalk to reach the beach. It’s a picturesque walk, and you get to pass a outdoor cat colony. The cats are so sweet, and they appear to be cared for by the locals.
The beach is magnificent. There was a warm breeze every day we were there, which kept the flies away. The sand is so soft and sparkly and not too hot. For context, we are visiting in late September. The water is cold, but you can definitely acclimate. It’s so blue, clear, and clean. At low tide, there are amazing sand bars, and you can walk pretty far out. I was also able to collect some gorgeous shells. Finally, there are ample trash cans and a clean bathroom. This beach as everything I want in a beach. I truly adore it.

What they’ve done in the area is incomprehensible, large concrete building, a casino, a conference center all in a preserved environmental area. Troia Beach is located in the Troia Peninsula, which is a sandy strip of land that extends along the coast of Portugal. It is a popular destination for tourists because of its beautiful beaches and clear waters. Praia Troia Mar is one of the main beaches in the area and is known for its wide stretch of sand, calm waters, and scenic views. Visitors can also enjoy a range of water sports and outdoor activities, such as windsurfing, kayaking, and hiking.
Overall, Troia Beach is a great destination for those seeking a relaxing and scenic getaway. However, as with any location, individual experiences and opinions may vary. It is always a good idea to research and read reviews from multiple sources to get a well-rounded understanding of a destination before making travel plans.

Wonderful beach. To get there you can catch the Fertagus in Lisbon until Setúbal (final stop). Then you can walk for 10-15 minutes until Atlantic Ferry stop where you catch the boat to Troia. The whole trip lasts 75 to 80 minutes. Totally worth it! A few hours after midday there's a low tide as well so you are able to walk to the other side of the bay which is pretty cool.

Well worth a visit. The view over the ocean , from the steep cliffs is spectacular. It is also home to the abbey of Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel

Awesome views of the ocean.
Nearby there is a sanctuary, light house and some dinosaurs footprints.
Due to its location it might get a little windy.
There is free parking lot and some places where you can get a drink and some snacks

Amazing place that gives you a good walk, fresh air, loads to look at and learn. The little wild flowers including wild thyme was the icing on the cake 💕

Beautiful place! It’s possible to go at night!! I’m not sure you can go in the lighthouse, but the outside is definitely lovely :)
Awesome views and must be even prettier in the morning!
The roads to get there are very dark, but it’s after a very quiet neighbourhood
Space to park is not a problem, there are also some abandoned buildings that are pretty cool!!
Worth the visit

Beautiful views here...besides visiting the sanctuary or the Lagosteiros beach (very difficult access) don't miss the dinosaur footprints and tail tracks, not far away from there...try to visit on a clear not too windy day... Trekking around the Cape 😜 is definitely worth the effort of climbing up and down 😉. You will discover new amazing views with lots of history behind if you are in to it. Dinosaurs 🦕🦖🦖 set their tracks n footprints in this area over 150 million years ago... Still visible!!!
