How long is the drive from Tacloban to Palompon?
The direct drive from Tacloban to Palompon is 75.2 mi (121 km), and should have a drive time of 2 hrs 7 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Tacloban to Palompon, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with top places to visit like Madonna of Japan and Archdiocesan Shrine of Santo Niño Parish Church, or the ever-popular Sohoton Caves & Natural Bridge Park.
The top stops along the way from Tacloban to Palompon (with short detours) are Kalanggaman Island, San Juanico Bridge, and Bounty Beach. Other popular stops include Lake Danao, Lake Danao, and Santo Niño Shrine and Heritage Museum.
Sohoton Caves & Natural Bridge Park is a vast national park replete with awe-inspiring caves and magnificent waterfalls. Visitors can access the natural limestone bridge by kayak, which provides breathtaking views of the surroundings. A dip in the refreshing waters of Natural Bridge is highly recommended, but be prepared to get wet and bring an extra set of clothes. The visitors' center offers good food, though it may be expensive.
It was a pleasant experience when we started. The only inconvenience was the long wait time to ride the kayak because there was a group of VIPs ahead of us that didn’t return as scheduled. We were also pressed with time as we have another engagement after this visit. We almost didn’t take the Kayak ride. We waited for almost an hour.
Do not miss it when you have the chance. They only have a limited number of trained kayak guides so I hope you also won’t get a coincidental visit with some VIPs. 😅

The whole experience was wonderful. You'll see the rice paddies and local villages during the motorcycle ride to Sohoton. The view during the boat ride and the kayak is magnificent. You'll be riding between different rock formations. The swimming area is gorgeous, the water is cool and clear. The locals are very friendly and helpful. They really make the place lovely.

Great gem! Locals and foreigners should come and visit this natural beauty. Good explanation by the guide, expert boatmen for kayak, and overall a wholesome experience. Just be prepared with extra clothes, good shoes for slightly muddy and stony parts. You can bring your own food and drinks.

Truly a world class tourist attraction! Sohoton cave has Panhulugan Cave and Natural Bridge (limestone rock wall /w recessed formations) with native built iron catwalk. Start with bangka ride to the Panhulugan Cave with our tour guide, Kimie. Few stair steps and we start amazing tour of stalactites, stalagmites, draperies, helictites, and columns. The path is well marked and fairly easy to walk on. Cave formations are live, thus lot of water to make cave floor slippery. There are 4 chambers to explore and the last one is the most spectacular. After 45mins cave tour, we board a kayak with tour guide that paddle or push our kayak up river to even amazing cave, the original Sohoton cave. In December, water level is low enough that you might get out of the kayak and take a short walk upstream as it’s too shallow for the loaded kayak. It’s one of those jaw dropping moment when you see the massive cave with the river running through it. This is where we stack rocks and enjoy nice swim in calmer water. If you lay flat on the river and look up at the Sohoton Cave ceiling; cave tears fall from great height will sting your face! Oh, Miss Universe PH delegates explore these amazing formation in May 2023. For us normal tourists, the whole package cost p900/person and it’s worth every penny.

It was very... LIFE CHANGING... living a life in the city then seeing a view like this. Every minute of being here is definitely worth it!

The tour guide was so friendly and accommodating. So much effort and creativity was put into the way they delivered the tour. Not to mention the welcoming voices of the three people singing at the top which echoed throughout the place provided such a welcoming feel for their visitors. We also felt very safe with the way the kayak guides handled our big group. As for the place, it was genuinely breathtaking. Definitely a beautiful hidden gem that’s less than an hour away from the city.
+you’re allowed to bring food or you can ask them to cook you food that they have available for an affordable price.
+They’re open 8 am to 3 pm
+You can contact them through fb: Sohoton Cave Basey Samar.

Fantastic experience the caves were absolutely beautiful and the guide was super informative and helpful. The boat ride was enjoyable as well as the cave tour and the natural bridge was incredible also the swimming by the natural bridge was good wholesome fun as well as the kayak ride overall would recommend and definitely would go back if I have the opportunity to.
Eli Goossen — Google review
The cave itself is beautiful, but the views from the boat ride to it, and the kayak ride to Natural Bridge is stunning. Taking a refreshing dip in the waters of Natural Bridge is worth the trip.
Some tips:
Expect to get wet, so bring extra clothes.
Secure your gadgets in a dry bag.
The visitors' center offers good food after the excursion, but we found it a bit pricey.

Planning a quick escape from the city? 😊
Road trip to Basey, Samar! 😁
Sohoton Caves and Natural Bridge Park tour takes about 2-3hrs, so be prepared. Bring your lunch or snacks and be ready to get wet (also your gadgets). We came unprepared for any water activities, we didn't get to bring our mobile phones during the kayaking. 😟
What I really enjoyed most from part of the tour package is the 20-30mins river kayaking. 🚣♂️ The guides will tell you to leave your belongings behind while you explore the river. Don't worry about your personal stuffs, they're actually pretty friendly and trustworthy. Bring your cameras or mobile phone for instaworthy scenery. You can take a dip coz the water is soooo refreshing! 🏊♂️
Not bad for a day tour trip. 😉👌

I just can't help but admire GOD's creation. Been here for the 3rd time already but this time I enjoyed kayaking & seeing the old cave. That's their new package when you visit the Sohoton Cave nowadays. Ii is so amazing!

The Archdiocesan Shrine of Santo Niño Parish Church in Tacloban City is a must-visit religious structure and historical landmark in Leyte. It is the home of the patron saint of Leyte, El Kapitan, and has a tall belfry that makes it easy to locate. Despite suffering significant damage from Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, the church remains a beautiful and spacious place for worship.
My experience during I attended mass in Sto. Nino Church in Tacloban City was a very nice feeling, the way the priest deliver the words of god you can feel it. I am bless that I attended the mass it really help me to pass my board examination last june 2019. I am thankful to God that he leads me to his kingdom by the instrument of that kind of parish or church. They have a room where it has a lot of saints statue and they have a different kind of prayer in each saints. Believe me it help you a lot by doing a sincere prayer. I hope you can experience what I am saying right now. I am very grateful that I am bless to be part of that mass.

It was my first visit and mass although I’ve been a frequent visitor of the city. I’m glad I did it🤗 The church so spacious, beautiful structure, has a good sound system and numerous TVs for the readings and viewing of the altar for areas with blocking posts. There are areas for candle lighting some some known Saints and selling of religious souvenir items inside the church.

Saw the white towers of this Church a few kilometers away when we were on the top of Calvary Hill. It was in our itinerary during our trip in Tacloban.
Like many Catholic Church, you can feel the solemnity once you go inside. There were some people praying and devoting to the faith. There are also statues of saints and the Blessed Virgin aside from Jesus Christ.
There's also an area where you can light candles and pray and its even inside the church
The white exterior looks magnificent under the blue, sunny sky. Toilet is at the back but you have to go out of the church. Its still within he church compound.

Ever since I was born, this has been my place of worship whenever I'm in Tacloban City. Prior to Yolanda, its color scheme was a faded yellow or peach, but now it exudes a more serene and calm atmosphere due to its white color scheme, as if it were a temple straight from heaven.

As a major Catholic church, now especially being a diocesan shrine of the Sto. Niño, the church caters to the spiritual needs of the people in the archdiocese knowing fully well that majority of the population in the city are Catholics and devotees of the Sr. Sto. Niño. The physical structure of the place has been built to withstand a Haiyan-like typhoon.

Hotel XYZ is a contemporary establishment that offers an elegant dining option and a cozy cafe. Additionally, guests can enjoy the amenities of a spa and a bar by the poolside. The hotel provides multiple dining choices, including a lively cocktail bar with live entertainment on weekends. While the swimming pool may not be large, it is adequate for those who wish to take a dip. Located in the Central Business District, Hotel XYZ ensures convenient access to nearby attractions and amenities either by foot or by tricycle.
We had a great stay sadly for just 1 night. Booked with sort notice the same morning, all the staff where very welcoming, friendly and helpful our room was very clean and tidy with everything we needed spacious bed very comfortable, very modern throughout the hotel. We ate in that night in the rooftop restaurant the food was excellent the price equally as good. Breakfast on the ground floor was very good. We would highly recommend this hotel in the centre of downtown Tacloban

Stayed for 2 nights. The room was great, got it at a bargain, only caveat was there's a pillar partially blocking our walkway in our room. Other than that, our stay was awesome. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Location is great since it's just a short walk or ride away from everything we needed. Food from the restaurant and cafe was delicious, pricey but well worth it. Would like to come back soon.

I gave XYZ hotel 4 stars except for the room we were in, the rooms were great except for the air con getting a bad leak as well as the shower. Which made me come back to Australia with tonsillitis and my partner was ill as well.
That being said the service was great and the restaurant fantastic, that I have booked rooms again in August.

Toilet doors have no privacy. You can see through the side of the door from ceiling to floor where the hinges are. Bathroom sink plug was stuck so couldn't empty the sink. Pool was closed at 6pm too. Beds are too small for 2 people. Not a great experience.

Modern room, comfortable big bed, good bathroom, rooftop terrace pool. When you book it online in advance you can get very good rates. But when you are a walk-in guest or want to extend, it's very expensive.
The Wi-Fi will function for you only until 1pm of the check-out day. The breakfast is good, but I missed fruits.

We booked in advance but a storm came by such that we needed to move the reservation to another date. The hotel did not hesitate to hold the reservation for us and accommodated my sister and my mother without much drama. We appreciated it a lot and we will book again because of their excellent service. Sometimes, it is not just about the hotel but also the staff and the management. Thank you so much!

Hotel XYZ is by far the best hotel we have visited during our stay in Tacloban. The staff is extremely service minded, kind and very professional. The food both breakfast lunch and dinner is very good and very cheap seen from a European perspective.
I can highly recommend Hotel XYZ to anyone visiting Tacloban.

Worst hotel experience. Maybe I just expected a lot from this hotel. Booked here together with my mom and niece and the reception guy didn't entertain us first even if we got there earlier but instead prioritized foreign guests. Clearly they are discriminating local tourists. We waited for 30-45 mins for our check in and they didn't even bother at first for making us wait until I asked what's taking them so long even though we booked a month before. When we went to the room, it has a strong smell of detergent or maybe bleach, making it so uncomfortable. Few hours later we found a live cockroach, we wanted to request for clean up but guess what? Their Telephone and request buttons weren't working. We are really disappointed.
Think twice before booking this hotel.

I had a nice stay at this hotel.
It was like being in a cruise, you have everything in the same building, 3 x restaurants, including the cocktail bar with live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays.
The swimming pool wasn't that impressive, though it was quite small, but it was good enough for someone like me, I'm not a very tall guy, so I managed to swim a few laps in that small rectangular swimming pool. It's better than no swimming pool at all.
The Hotel is situated in the Central Business District, so everything is either walking distance or a tricycle ride away.
I will stay there again.

Really nice hotel, in the heart of downtown Tacloban. Great bakery next door. And lots of shops, supermarkets, malls conveninece store, and market stalls within a short walking distance.
It has an awesome bar and food area next to the pool, looking out across Tacloban, on the 9th and 10th floor. Cocktails were excellent. As wlth most Philippines hotels, set your expectations that everything is not going to be available as shown in the menu and there will be less disappointment.
Staff were helpful and really responsive. Airport transfers could be arranged through the front desk.
Room was a strange shape but functional and well cleaned every day. Shower was warm with adequate pressure. The wifi in our room was terrible - they did the usual turn off/on but it never improved - in other parts of the hotel it seemed good.
Breakfast (included for free with the room) was good - see menu in pics (pls note that they no longer offer a buffet breakfast).
We used the Spa for a 1 hr couples massage and it was excellent. It was booked through the front desk.
Downstairs was also a cafe area that had Illy Coffee, ice cream and macaroons.
Overall, a really good stay. Thanks XYZ Hotel.

The Santo Niño Shrine and Heritage Museum offers guided tours of a grand ancestral home filled with historical artifacts, antiques, and artwork. This museum was once the residence of the Romualdez-Marcos family but has since been converted into a shrine and museum dedicated to the Santo Niño. For a small entrance fee, visitors can enjoy a 30-minute to an hour-long tour of this historical site.
Santo Niño Shrine and Heritage Museum, colloquially referred to as the Imelda Marcos Museum, is a building in the Tacloban, Philippines. It was formerly owned by the Marcos family and now houses a museum. It was built from 1979 to 1981 by then-First Lady and wife of President Ferdinand Marcos, Imelda Marcos.

✔️ Great place to enjoy for history buffs. For a small entrance fee, you get a guided tour on what was once the residence of the Romualdez-Marcos family, now converted into a museum and Santo Niño Shrine. Tour lasts for 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how long you take a stop for photos.
❌ It could get dark for your photos since the museum is not so well maintained.

Great historical spot. Good tour guides. Suffer though from the lack of investment required to maintain it. It reflects the pinnacle of the power of the Marcos administration in developing this place...especially as the then first lady only ever spent one night there.

Be aware that although it is called Sto Niño Shrine, the place is mostly about Marcoses, their rooms and collections and not Sto. Niño. Only the altar in the ground floor and facade is about Sto. Niño.
Love the antiques and rooms here, and probably the prettiest, richest museum ive ever been. I admire the beautiful collections arts and furniture of Imelda Marcos. This is probably where the people taxes went back in Marcos Marshall Law Era 🫠😝
We were there at 8AM and we’ve got the mansion all to ourselves till 8.30AM. It is not well maintained but seeing how 2-3 caretakers clean, i think they are doing their best. After all, it’s hard to maintain a 2000sqm mansion, with more than 20 rooms inside.
Would love to visit again when i come back to Tacloban.

Someone jokingly said, "This is where our taxes went." And i lolled
Kidding aside, this place gives us a sneak peak of the Marcos' lifestyle during their time. The "house" and valuable items inside are preserved. Some of the items range from extravagant chandeliers, chinese-made ceramics, a pure-silver chair, and many more which are given to former president FEM and Imelda during their state visits to various countries. Seeing those gifts gave me a glimpse of how other nations saw our country and made me realize the true meaning of the word imeldific!
Okay, back to the shrine. It's a two-storey structure made of wood. Entrance fee is 100 pesos per pax plus 50 pesos per phone. Yes, you have to pay if you want to use your phone. If you're on a budget with your date, you can use one phone only for the tour inside.
You can't just roam around in there like some shrine or museums. Here, you will be guided during your tour and its actually good since there are so many interesting things that the tour guide is discussing.
The shrine itself has so many rooms, guest rooms, and the family's room. There different styles of rooms all in the 80s era theme. In BBM's room, you can see his report cards when he was still young. The largest room is Imelda's with separate bath tub and toilet.
Then there are two huge long tables on the second and first floor. I think the seating capacity is around 25 or 35 people.
The walls are also adorned with different items. In FEM's room, the walls are made up of leather. Some rooms have decorative banig style. On the ground floor, it wood chip lawaan.
The tourist guide will tell you everything about the shrine, rooms, furnitures and other things inside including all questions you might have. All in all, sulit ang P100 entrance fee!
Follow for more tips.

M/V Eva Jocelyn Shrine is a memorial dedicated to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda, which struck the Philippines in 2013. The shrine features the remnants of a cargo ship that was swept ashore in Tacloban's coastal barangay of Anibong during the devastating storm. This historical site serves as a reminder of the impact of Typhoon Haiyan, historically known as one of the strongest typhoons ever recorded.

The people of Tacloban did the right thing making the shipwreck into a monument as a reminder how disastrous a typhoon can get.
Not much to do here other than take photos. There are also
no restaurants nor museums to make the visit last longer than a few minutes.

One of the reminders of typhoon haiyan which is historically the strongest typhoon recorded to ever hit land. This ship was left on the very street and had to be cut piece by piece to be moved out of the street. The ship was believe to be carrying rice. Despite being flooded by seawater it helped feed the local residents who's houses was wrecked by the same ship during the storm.
Imagine your house being rundown by a ship. Something you will never guess happening to you. The front part of the ship was saved and moved a few meters from where it was to serve as a reminder of the haiyan.
Typhoon haiyan was not just a story of tragedy. It is also a story of peace. The world came to help. Different faces from different places. They helped the victims rebuild.
Thank you.

I was horrified about the stories of Typhoon Yolanda. There were hundreds of corpses washed ashore in Tacloban. I was told there were about 4 ships washed ashore because of storm surges reaching up to 15ft. With zero visibility, people thought the moon was falling but in reality, it was the ship's light coming closer and closer to land.

A sad reminder to the haiyan / Yolanda calamity but a good reminder how resilient taclobanons are.
It's a small shrine and very accessible. 7 pesos fare ride on a multi-cab from downtown. There is a guard or a policeman and he is nice and friendly.
There are kids in there asking for money. Give some and they will divide it and buy candies or food.

The memorial is the remnants of Yolanda where the cargo ship was taken from the water and driven into the housing area in Barangay. There's parking on the side of the road so you can stop by and have a look. You can climb to the deck of the cargo ship to look out into the water and see just how far the ship had to travel to get to where it is.
We had a car to get here so not sure how to get here by public transportation. Fairly simple memorial but the message is astounding, don't underestimate nature.
Benedict Uy — Google review
The place is accessible since its by the road and there's no entrance fee to enter the place. This is already portion of the entire ship that was washed ashore during the landfall of Yolanda Typhoon. If you stand from the shrine and you look behind you'll see how far the ship wss from the sea! It's chilling cause you'll then realize how many people were killed during that time.
The San Juanico Bridge is the longest arch-shaped truss bridge in the country, spanning 2km and connecting the provinces of Leyte and Samar. This engineering marvel offers scenic views and stands as a testament to great feats of construction. Walking across it provides ample time to admire its mighty structure, which was etched from mere plan drawings on paper. Visitors are prohibited from stopping along the bridge due to safety reasons, but signs can be found on either side alerting them of this restriction.
It was our first time to cross this bridge. The view was really beautiful. Its just unfortunate (for me lol) that it was a bit busy and we couldnt stop to take pictures 🤭 but there are signs on the sides though that NO STOPPING anytime . So we just drove back and forth to take videos and pictures.

Beautiful truss-design bridge that lights up at night after dusk. There was no prominent viewing area promoted but we found one (see the pic)...you have to go down a road that runs next to the bridge (on the opposite side to the Polytechnic) that takes you to an area where you cross back under the bridge and along a walk way (see pic). The viewing area is really nice and right on the water, making for a great view of the bridge as the sun goes down. We were told there was a light show of different colours and spotlights but the bridge just stayed the same colour (purple) the entire time we were there so didn't see any light show.

Crossing the famous bridge by walking is great.. You spend ample time to give you the feeling on how this great structure being etched up from the mere plan drawns in the paper into a mighty structure bridging two land mass over wide span of water. The bridge is 2km in lenght joining the province of Leyte and Samar, a great engineering feats on that era.

Now the second longest bridge in the country. I used to jog on this bridge from end to end when I was training in NMP ten years ago. Back then, it was the longest bridge in the country but not as famous as today. Would love to jog or join a fun run that crosses this bridge someday, see the light shows and navigate under the bridge again.
We used to navigate under the bridge for our taining. The lights isn't as fancy as today but I still enjoyed walking and running in here. Though the bridge shakes when huge vehicles pass by, its still strong as ever.
This is one of the most useful projects in our country that thousands, or even millions of peolle.are benefitting even though many years has passed after its construction.

Beautiful bridge with a beautiful story. We visited during the night at around 10 to 11 pm qnd it was perfect as there wasn't people taking pictures anymore and that there wasn't a lot of cars passing by. We got great pictures and we definitely love the atmosphere. This is always going to be one of the most beautiful bridge ever made in the country.

San Juanico Bridge runs over 2100m long over the San Juanico Strait. It is the 2nd longest bridge in the Philippines which connects Leyte and Samar.
The view around is spectacular if you have a chance to slowly drive to appreciate the horizon.

The San Juanico Bridge, is an arch-shaped truss bridge in the Philippines stretching from Samar to Leyte crossing the San Juanico Strait. It is part of the Pan-Philippine Highway. It is the longest bridge in the Philippines spanning a body of water with a length of 2.16 kilometers.

Constructed during the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos through Japanese Official Development Assistance loans, it has a total length of 2.16 kilometers (1.34 mi)—the second longest bridge spanning a body of seawater in the Philippines after the Cebu-Cordova Bridge. It was also the longest bridge in the Philippines upon its opening in 1973, surpassed in 1976 by Candaba Viaduct of North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), another bridge that connects from one province to another, connecting the provinces of Pampanga and Bulacan. Its longest length is a steel girder viaduct built on reinforced concrete piers, and its main span is of an arch-shaped truss design.

Summer time, before going back to manila i want my son to explore places in the Philippines, "a bit shaky" Said my son when we are in the midst of the bridge 😅. Tacloban city going at the corner where the bridge headed cost us 20pesos each person. And there are Tricycles, super pricy cost 150pesos 3 of us only, to take pictures at the foot and in the middle of the bridge. If your budget too tight and do some cardio exercise I advice to walk if fair weather. I think its only 150-200m from corner of the road to the foot of the bridge and then 400-500m from foot to middle of the bridge.

We crossed the bridge both in the daylight and nighttime to have a better look and experience of this great structure. I suggest you should also pass by it by night as it has better visuals with its colorful lights and you can pose for more photos as it’s less crowded compared in the morning. Just be cautious on passing vehicles and be reminded to be fast for cars are not allowed to stay for too long.

During the Marcos Sr. Administration, the opposition considered the San Juanico Bridge a white elephant. However, after his term, the bridge was fully utilized, bringing Marcos' vision to fruition. The bridge, which connects Samar and Leyte, used to be the longest bridge in the Philippines. Although it is no longer the longest, it remains one of the country's finest man-made marvels and a popular tourist spot in the area. If you're visiting Samar and Leyte, the bridge is definitely worth a visit. (The photos featured here are courtesy of Samar PIO.)

We visited in a weekday and surprisingly there are some people in the area.
It is open to the public, for free.
According to a local, this place is very packed during the weekends and holidays. Some families even do picnics by the park’s side grass since it is quite spacious.
Best time to visit is in the afternoon (not so hot), and on a weekday for less foot traffic.

Picturesque. You can jog around the place. There are many bikers every morning. It is better to go here early in the morning to avoid extreme heat during noon time. If you want, you can just bring your own umbrella.
There are security guards roaming around the place to keep the peace. It is along the highway so you can see it easily. However there is no parking lot, so you have to leave your car along the road.
There are parks on both sides of the images. Kids usually run around the park.
You can also enjoy watching the fountains. You can bring your own food but be sure to bring your trash with you to maintain the cleanliness of the area.

I'll never travel to Palompon without this trip planner again
The amenities at Red Beach Palo were satisfactory, although the shoreline itself was somewhat lacking. However, for those seeking an affordable destination to bask in the ocean's beauty, the beach is adequate for individuals with limited funds. It is suitable for excursions and offers a chance to revel in the sea without straining one's finances.
A nice and budget place where families can enjoy without spending too much. Although the beach is not white, the sand is fine. Perfect for those who are nature lover and in the budget. Cottages cost from P350 to P500 depending on the size and kind of cottage you will rent. Most of the cottages are just few meters away from the shoreline.

The church was one of the casualties of typhoon Ondoy which struck the Philippines in September 2009. It's entire ceiling was blown away by the strong wind. Through the generous hearts of donors, it was restored to its former beauty.
The church was visited by His Holiness Pope Francis on January 17, 2015.
It has parking space in front. It is a little bit hot specially when there are so many church-goers every mass. Maybe it's because of the limited electric fans.

Wonderful, wonderful Cathedral. The altar is incredible!!! What an outstanding architecture and interior. The main door/entrance is magnificent that it made me tell my company's Operations Director the story of the Baptistry door of the Cathedral in Florence made by Lorenzo Ghiberti which is so beautiful that Michelangelo declared the Ghiberti door worthy of the Gates of Paradise. A beautiful place to worship the Creator.

Beautiful historic church. Take time to read about its early history and how it served as a military hospital. Like most places in the Philippines, there is no aircon. Mass was 1.5 hours and became difficult to sit in the heat. As an American, we don't tolerate heat well. My only suggestion would be to keep mass to an hour due to the heat conditions.

The amenities provided by the resort were amazing. There was a private pool, multiple dining areas with a variety of cuisines, an onsite spa, and a variety of activities for kids and adults. After paying an environmental fee of P50, we tried two ways to enter the lake- the first was less visited while the second one had a store where you can ask the vendors to cook locally harvested plants and clams.

It's affordable and I love the cold breeze in the afternoon! The water was murky green but we enjoyed our swim and the floating cottage! It's a good place to be one with nature!
We had private car, seems difficult to get to when using public vehicle

Disappointing. Lots of loud, drunk people. Overcrowded. Only saw 4 kubos in a very small area and all of them were taken so nowhere to chill. Apparently, there's another area with kubos and bamboo structures to chill out but I didn't see it, there was no signs to it, and the people who man the entrance never gave any type of map, they just collected the entrance fee, and told me there's many beautiful women inside, as if I was a sextourist going into a bar. Crazy, and a waste of time. The lake itself is beautiful though, but typical for Philippines, the people and their disrespect for nature ruin everything that is beautiful in this country. It should be a protected environmental asset and maintained, and not treated like any old beach resort to get drunk and act stupid.

This is a very nice spot, you should visit it, when you are in Ormoc city. There are some spots at the lake where you can go down, we decide to drive with our car to the end of the road. There is a silent nice spot with floating cottages and you can swim also here.

Its a calming place. Lake that is very deep so be watch out. Going there is so refreshing and the weather is around 19C to 20C. Its like going to Baguio, enjoy the coldness of the mountain, see Lot of lily and other flower sights. We went there around 3pm and came at nearly 4pm, we enjoy the sunset , the food and the calm water of the lake.

Large & calm elevated lake up the hills behind Ormoc city. A good place to go on hot day because high altitude freshness, cool water temperature, and clouds. Floating cottages & kayaks available to rent per hour. Bring your own food and drinks, because options here are limited. For people who can't swim there's a shallow concrete pool area beside the carpark.

Visayas State University is generally well-regarded for its focus on agricultural and rural development, as well as its contributions to research and education in those fields. If you're considering the university, I recommend looking into factors like program offerings, faculty expertise, facilities, and student reviews to determine if it aligns with your academic and career goals.

I graduated here but I rated 4 stars only. The fact that employees in this institution are quite competitive, some just dont deserved to be in here. Anyway, it's a very scenic university and I took thousands of photos in here already. I love how this university provides instruction and really a place conducive for learning. Hope for a change specifically in the admin people.

This is my home away from home.
For me,this is one of the most excellent schools in the Philippines.
The landscaping is beautifully done, teachers, school staff, students are strongly advised to love the environment which coincides with the school's vision.
Fronting the university is a beach (marine sanctuary) that you can freely enjoy.
It has lots of other amenities too.
Various food stalls and cafeterias are available anywhere which is absolutely affordable.

Just got there for my workshop, the University campus is just like University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB). The campus have upland to lowland and sea for terrain. The area is clean and well maintained facilities. There has a lot of dormitories for men and women, complete sports field (tennis, basketball, football soccer, volley ball et. al.), and lodge and inn for guest and visitors.

I give it 2 stars. Though the view is great and the water quality, it’s sad to see that the management don’t practice proper waste disposal. I did see a dump of trash behind the toilet and it’s the only disposal they have just right beside the river itself. How can we promote Eco tourism when we ourself cannot do the things that should properly be done. The Provincial Government of Biliran can do better than this.

I'll never travel to Palompon without this trip planner again
The Ulan-Ulan Waterfall is a stunning natural wonder located in Biliran, surrounded by lush tropical forests. Standing at an impressive height of 25 meters, it is one of the most awe-inspiring waterfalls in the region. Another set of falls, Recoletos Falls, can be found a short distance away along with a picturesque natural swimming pool.
Last time we visited the place, we had to go through a half-hour trek through a rough, muddy, unpaved road before going to a much smaller goat track among brambles over stones. But the sight and experience was all worth it as few tourists dare make the relatively hard trek. In a year or so, they might be able to finish the road which should cut the travel time significantly. When you get there, swim in the water. Don’t miss the experience! It is worth more than the photos you’ll take.

Must visit falls when you're in the area! We went in the morning and pretty much had the falls for ourselves.
If you're hungry, there's a small store you can buy chips, biscuits and drinks near the entrance.
The shower area at the entrance is also well maintained.
Entrance is Php20 per person.

Greatest falls I’ve seen in a while, definitely worth a visit. If one goes down the river, there is also another fall which one can see from the top. Though, directions from google are wrong, one needs to follow the road until it ends, there’s the entry!

Eventhough it was devastated by the typhoon that hit the island province, the beauty of Ulan-Ulan Falls is still visible. it is a must-see destination when visiting Biliran.

Came here on thursday afternoon and found the falls all to ourselves.
They've built a road straight to the falls too si all you need is a 3 minute hike to arrive.
Experience at the falls was amazing.
Alexander Go Tian — Google review
Nice falls but it's on a bit up the road from what is shown on Google maps.
Martyn Shaw — Google review
The path to the falls is cemented so it was a pretty easy walk. We were told that it was previously a pretty rough road.
It can be a bit of a struggle climbing back up the stairs though. It can be pretty steep.🥲
I had a slight struggle to be able to actually reach the water because of the huge rocks. Be careful so you won't slip. There's no cottages or seats down there. They must be preserving the natural state of the falls. So just bring a mat if you plan to hold a picnic and swim with your fam. Be sure to clean as you go.💗
Bethany Sala — Google review
By only looking at the images and videos you see in social media, tha falls looks deceptively serene. But when I arrived there, it was awesomely overwhelming.
Before reaching the spot, you get to walk into a challenging terraine of about 300 meters. Expect narrow trails with mud and rocks, and mini cliffs on your left side covered in bushes as you descend going there.
You will first hear the falls before seeing it so keep your eyes open. Once you see a glimpse of the falls, expect the road to be better as that portion is already cemented. Then enjoy the view of the falls while traversing atop the boulders and dipping into the cold waters.
Well worth the hike.
Greur Bernal — Google review
When you like to see a very nice Waterfall, than you should drive to the Ulan-Ulan Waterfall. When you use Google as your navigation system, please drive further when google say, you are reaching the spot. Because the road ends on the new entrance and you need to go only 5 to 10 minutes down to the waterfall.
Andreas Brammer — Google review
Going to Ulan-ulan is very easy because the road is wide and paved. Though you need to walk for 30-50 meters to the falls. The water is ice cold but it's so relaxing. You can go near to the falls and have a quick massage.

Bukilat Cave is a stunning coastal cave complex located in Camotes Island that features four distinct caves to explore. The highlight of this attraction is the pristine pond that fills up with ocean water during high tide, making it an ideal spot for swimming and enjoying the picturesque surroundings. The cave is adorned with impressive stalactites and stalagmites, creating a breathtaking natural spectacle for visitors. A drive through the scenic coastal towns provides ample opportunities for photography and sampling authentic Filipino cuisine.
Beautiful and attractive cave, the water is connected to the ocean. When we went here it is low tide but its fine. You can also check the tide forecast before visiting here if you want a higher water level to swim.

Nice little cave. You get some sunlight in cave due to sunlight thru small opening on top. Water is warm. Went there during Easter weekend and it was very crowded. Not that enjoyable. 50 pesos entry fee. On the Eastern tip of the island. Plenty of parking. Go on a non holiday weekday.

There are about 4 different caves to visit on Camotes Island. This one is by far the best! Actually, I would say the others are not really worth the time unless you enjoy walking down steps, taking a selfie, and then leaving! This cave is definitely worth the drive. The water is pristine to swim in, the stalactites and stalagmites are quite impressive, and the drive is beautiful as well as you wind through coastal towns full of photo ops and authentic filipino cuisine.
Shelby Alvarez — Google review
Unfortunately for us, it was not the best time to visit the caves, as it was low tide.
You need to know that the tide needs to be high to visit it and have the best experience.
The weather was also not that good, so not the best light to have the best experience.
However the cave is really nice and you'll see some impressive stalactites and stalagmites.
Entry fee has more than doubled in 2-3 years... used to be 20php, and now you'll need to pay 50php.
That's still very affordable let's be honest.

It really is beautiful, idk about you pero im ok na low tide when we visited since we eeally werent planning to ligo there. Talagang day tour lang tingin2 sa paligid.
Weekday kami gumala and dalawang group lang kami dun sa cave mismo so we have the place to ourselves. The hole thing really looks perfect, so nice on photo.

We visited Camotes before the Pandemic but only got the chance to make this review now. Bukilat Cave was in our list.
Bukilat Cave is a large cave with a high ceiling and several natural openings that allow sunlight to shine in. The cave also has stalagmites and stalactites, which have formed over many years.
One of the most popular attractions in Bukilat Cave is the natural pool that forms inside the cave at high tide. The pool is clear and refreshing, and a good place to swim or cool off on a hot day.
To get to Bukilat Cave, you can take a tricycle or motorbike from the town of Poro. The cave is about 15 minutes away from the town center.
Here are some tips when visiting Bukilat Cave:
*Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. The cave floor can be slippery, so wear shoes with good traction.
*Bring a flashlight or headlamp. The cave can be dark, especially in the deeper areas.
*Do not litter or damage the stalagmites and stalactites.
*Be aware of the tides. The natural pool inside the cave is only accessible at high tide.
Bukilat Cave is a beautiful and unique place that is worth visiting if you are ever in Camotes Island

Please respect this natural wonder - let's keep it beautiful for generations to see
Damian P (Louis Cyphere) — Google review
The cave is so nice! You can enjoy a dip in the water if the tides are up, otherwise, it would only be ankle-deep. There are stalagmites and stalactites inside, and overall it's a fun experience to sight see.
Jo Anne Sotto — Google review
Undoubtedly one of the most impressive cave destinations I've ever visited.
Bukilat Cave stands out, surpassing other caves in Camotes. The stunning Bukilat rock formations alone makes the cave so amazing. Entrance fee was only around 50 pesos.
The water inside was really cold, and we arrived early in the morning when the cave was still dark. However, around 6:30 am, the cave began to brighten thanks to the natural sunlight.
In any case, it was an enjoyable experience. Before entering, they provide you with guidelines on what is allowed and what isn't. I highly recommend visiting this cave destination.
Kalanggaman Island is a small island known for its beautiful sandbar and crystal-clear turquoise waters. However, there are several areas that require improvement to enhance the overall experience of visitors. The management needs to address issues such as inadequate lighting throughout the island, particularly in comfort rooms, grilling stations, and cottages. Additionally, maintenance should be improved despite being recently opened for overnight stays.
Wow! Just wow! The sandbar was awesome and so picturesque. If you visit malapascua island, make sure to book a tour for kalanggaman island. You can ask your hotel or ask the local tour guides there. They are very polite and very helpful. We booked ours for only Php1600 per head inclusive of lunch.
Warren Berdin — Google review
I really wanted to visit this island as it looks so cool, but when I went there the sand bank wasn’t really visible and there were so many people there that it wasn’t really enjoyable. The diving around the island was amazing though.
Eva Megli? — Google review
Better go there earlier in the morning when it's low tide so that you can walk in the sand bar in the eastern part. Else if you arrive around lunchtime, go to the West side of Kalangggaman if you want an uncrowded beach area. Kayak 200 pesos per 1 hr. 🫶
Erika Babuyo — Google review
I love this Place. Kalanggaman needs improvement in so many things.
The management should improve the lighting in the whole Island, there are only 2 major Solar lights!
No lights in the Comfort Rooms, Grilling Stations and Cottages, also, it is not well maintained.
I know they just opened the island for overnight stay, though they should have been prepared with all the things i mentioned.
Amidst all the things that needs improvement, Kalanggaman is still close to my heart. I hope you'll take good care of it and hoping for the betterment.
Eva Mae Urboda — Google review
Went there with friends and stayed overnight on May 29, 2022, Sunday. Almost all of the huts were occupied which was not common for a Sunday but I guess a lot of people missed travelling, and that was fine.
From the port in Palompon, it took us an hour to reach the island.
Note that the sandbar which I think is the highlight of the visit to this island is (of course) subject to the rising tide. Our tour guide missed to remind us of this but it's a good thing that we already took photos of the feature at around 4pm when we arrived. It was nowhere to be seen the following morning.
We opted for a tour package with buffet dinner and breakfast. It was a good choice.
Huts were open but for the night, you are expected to sleep inside tents. As for me, I preferred sleeping on a beach bed which I rented. It was breezy and was not raining anyway.
Clean water is limited so expect some difficulty in bathing or using the toilet. There is also no electricity in the island except for some solar-powered lights.
If you are the type who enjoys the outdoors and fine with not being pampered with comfort, the experience should be great. As for me, I just wish the locals and the tourists take better care of the place. Have seen some garbage near the shore. Mostly fallen dried leaves, but have also seen poorly disposed face mask, plastics etc. which was a shame.
Edberg Garduce — Google review
The island is amazing and beautiful so hopefully, people will be more mindful of their trash. When we went there, I can see plastic cups lying around the shore and will eventually be in the water itself. The washroom/bathroom needs improvement as well. Or maybe, people will have to practice more on how to be considerate when using public toilet. Always maintain cleanliness, guys.
I thought that they also limit visitors daily to avoid overcrowding the island and to easily control and maintain clealiness. I don't think it was practiced the last time I went there which was last year. So, maybe they are implementing it now, hopefully.
Let's all preserve the cleanliness and beauty of the place so we can always revisit it in the future.
Mae Lyka — Google review

Perhaps I was just expecting too much but I was a bit disappointed when I finally visited the island.
It was very busy and crowded. Whoever maintains the island cut down the grass so it didn't look natural and lush. Don't get me wrong, the island was stunning but I prefer it to be in its natural state.

Kalanggaman Island has been recognized by Lonely Planet as one of the most picturesque islands in the Philippines. Kalanggaman Island is mostly flat, with a coastline marked by white sandy beaches. It's sandbar extends to the west of the island, the length of which changes depending on the season and the tide.
Kalanggaman Island serves as a breeding ground for sea turtles and manta rays. It is also home to diverse marine life due to the surrounding coral reefs, making it a popular spot for snorkeling and scuba diving.
In 2018, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources raised concerns about the volume of tourist traffic in Kalanggaman, due to the possible environmental impacts it could have on the island's natural habitats.

Incredible island and beautifully well kept by locals, definitely recommend a boat trip here. Clearest water I’ve ever seen, make sure you walk to both ends of the island. The end where the boats don’t go is a great spot for snorkelling.
Saffi Johnson-Bright — Google review
The beach itself is great. White sand, clear water and a pretty long sandbar.
Now the bad part: washrooms/toilets are filthy. No showers to at least wash off after a swim. There are no working faucets. Be prepared to pay for everything. I understand paying for the boat ride but paying extra because you're not a resident of the area and paying again to access the beach upon arrival is just a money grab as the amenities are filthy and almost unusable. Also you have to pay to use a small cottage even for a short time. You even have to pay to use a plastic chair! Will I return or recommend this place? NO! Not until they address the washroom issues and revamp the fees. There are a lot of islands to visit until then.
Michael Astorga — Google review
We camped overnight. While it is rustic, it was a great experience. The island is beautiful, it was super quiet during our time there, friendly staff all around, and great experience with local kids. We had a ton of fun.
No real food option on the island though, so come prepared. You can rent the tent on site, or rent it in Palompon.

Lake Danao Park was undoubtedly the highlight of my vacation on Camotes Island! The park gives out a relaxed atmosphere with a abundant shade from numerous trees to shield you from the sun's heat, and the refreshing breeze adds to the charm. The park's vastness and the size of the lake were impressive.
Upon arrival, we were the only visitors, affordable entrance fee, and the staff there were friendly. Inside the park, there are foods, but we only bought Buko Juice and Salvaro. I also encountered the most adorable dog here.
Originally, we had only planned to enjoy the scenic beauty of Lake Danao, but our excitement soared when we discovered the pedal boats on the lake. The pedal boat only cost 50 pesos per person. This allowed us to truly experience the lake, rather than merely observing it. There was also a lengthy zipline that stretched across the lake, but we were on a budget so we decided not to.
Our time at Lake Danao Park was genuinely enjoyable. If you're planning a visit to Camotes Island, be sure to include this park in your gaals! I highly recommend it.

It was not commercialized tho but you could actually have fish spa with the fishes at the side of the lake. There were also some birds in the place. Bounty Beach is a public beach located on the southern part of an island. The beach is lined with various amenities including hotels, restaurants, dive shops and masseuses. However, it should be noted that Bounty Beach itself is not a hotel but rather a stretch of pale sand that offers great opportunities to watch the sunrise or go for a run. Swimming can be risky due to the presence of boats in the bay. Visitors should also beware of ropes used to tie boats across pathways.
Nice beach to sitting around while wacthing the sunrise and better place to run but must need to watch on every steps to avoid stumbled because there's a lot of rope boats tied across the pathways. And also it was fun running around due to the local dogs was run or played with you.🌞☺🙈🏃🌴🏝

Logon beach is pretty much besides the port of malapascua where all the pump boats coming from Maya roro port land. This area has facilities for the boats to land including wharfs. The area is shallow with clear waters. Logon beach has nice fine sand perfect for swimming in

Everything is perfect. The people are friendly and the beaches are great. It's when you're leaving that makes it a bad experience. You get treated with a non-chalant terminal staff who does not seem to care about cancelled trips. Boats gets cancelled without any apparent replacement and you will be forced to wait for another 30 mins. Maybe foreigners get treated different? Who knows. The rest is close to paradise except for when you're leaving.

Sunset Cove, a corner at Logon Beach, best place to watch Sunset when at Malapascua Island!
Albert Kang — Google review
Logon Beach is the first beach you would reach first when you go to Malapascua. There are however dozen beaches in the island.

Lots of boats for hire, and the site of the pier, although it doesn’t look like the pier is being used anymore. Didn’t expect to find a pig 🐷 on the beach, but he was fun to watch.

Great dive shop with brand new equipment - my BCD was freshly unpacked! Additionally, the price is significantly lower compared to other dive schools there, and there were only a few other people on the boat compared to others that were quite crowded. The thresher sharks and the white-tip shark were the highlights of the holiday. Michael was excellent; with his trained eye, he spotted and showed us marine life we would never have seen otherwise. Many heartfelt thanks to the entire team for the fantastic experience

It was an affordable stay. The food is not that expensive either. You can buy fresh fish and seafood from the fishermen plying their catch of the day and have the restaurant cook them for you.

This Review refers to the Hotel: We did not have a nice stay at this hotel. When we arrived they were setting up boxes for the 3 day music festival. It was organized by the hotel itself and when we asked for information about the duration of the event, we were not given any information about it. The music was so loud until late at night that after one day we canceled the stay. In addition, we had worms in the bathroom, which came through the drain. It was really not a friendly atmosphere. I can not recommend the hotel

Very good place to enjoy fun diving, hard working staffs may seems a bit rough but they are actually very sweet people trying there best. I had such fun time diving with them.

DON'T, JUST DON'T.
Don't even think about this place, it will ruin your vacation.
SCAM #1.) They upgraded our accomodation without our knowledge. We were informed upon arrival that our room incurred additional expenses of 800 Pesos per night.
SCAM #2.) The restaurant serving portion is a joke. The amount of food they will serve you is for kids, very small.
SCAM #3.) We booked for a day tour for Kalanggaman Island, we were charged 1,850 per pax all inclusive of transportation, lunch and island entrance fee. The boat crew later informed us that the exact tour fee is only 1,500 pesos.
May god bless your souls, and may the money help whatever purposes your scams will. 🤮🤮🤮

We would like to recommend our dive master, Vic. We spend three days with Vic so far, which is 7 dives. All of them were awesome! Not only the amazing marine lives and thresher sharks but Vic was the most patient and professional dive master I have ever seen. He is very easy going and very easy to communicate with.
My friend experienced some panic attacks under water, and Vic was there to calm her down every time and assured her safety. We would definitely recommend anyone who wants to enjoy diving in Malapascua to dive with Vic. I’m sure you will feel the same way as I do.
The boats and equipments are in good condition as well!

This review about hotel only
Not good for this money!
First room the shower was broken
Second room - toilet had no cover
A lot of insects inside the room. No mosquito net either
Wifi didn't work in the rooms we were
It was the loudest aircon I've seen, impossible to sleep
But location was good

I did 3 dives this morning with Vic the dive master. We saw at least 12 thresher sharks, they swam around us and one 4 meter tiger shark swimming towards me.
It was a crazy, beautiful and scary experience !
My best diving experience ever !

5 stars for the actual dive experience. The boat was nice and big, staff were really attentive and the equipment was almost brand new. We did 6 dives (Threshers and Gato Island). Food and drinks on board were good.
3/4 stars for the pricing and pre-dive information. We seen a sign in the village saying 3,999 for 3 dives, but the shop quoted 4,550. Then when we came to dive the sign outside the shop now stated 4,500 but we still had to pay 4,550.
Also we signed up for 3 Gato Island dives, but the day of the dive they asked if we'd do a sunset dive, when we said no the last one changed and was just off the coast of Malapascua so it's really only 2 Gato dives.
Would still recommend for the diving experience itself, and even with the confusing prices they're still one of the cheapest on the island.

Went diving today with this dive outfit. New equipment good and friendly divemaster and plenty of thresher sharks. After the day we were given a really good lunch. We will do a second full day with three dives tomorrow.

We did 3 dives with this dive centre and had an unbelievable experience. We had 2 dives with thresher sharks that got really close to us, and another dive we attempted to see tiger sharks, one was spotted while we were just starting our dive, very exhilarating knowing we were in the same area as one but unfortunately we did not get to see it. Our dive master Vic was a lovely man, we enjoyed our dives with him. Equipment was all good and breakfast served on board was delicious. Go pro rental only 500 pesos and Vic took some great photos and videos of us on all our dives. Christine who looks after the bookings was also very friendly and helpful, thank you we will be back!

Top notch diving experience. The dive masters and boat crew take care of literally everything for you and ensure you have all the info needed before making a dive. Equipment was brand new (heard from other divers that other shops equipment is very old) yet still had the best price I could find on the island!

I dove with Mabuhay for three days doing a total of 9 dives. I had a great experience and cannot fault them on anything. I would 100% dive with Mabuhay again and it is a shame that the reviews for this company are skewed downwards due to reviews about the hotel; not the dive shop.
They are friendly and responsive, are very flexible with when and where you want to dive, have great equipment, and the dive guides are clearly experienced and make you feel safe - shout out to DMs Vic and Regan! I also liked that they gave me the freedom to explore dive sites somewhat more independently and I didn’t have to follow them step by step.
Their prices are also amongst the lowest on the island, but I felt they went the extra mile compared to other companies. For example I was provided breakfast and lunch during day trips, whereby many other (more expensive) companies provided just lunch or even nothing.

I've been into this place thrice and never get tired of it! the last time was sept 2017 to celebrate my birthday, We hired a boat back and forth for 1,500 for five person. The boat man is just around and wait for us to finish. We enjoy snorkeling and the water is just amazing

We came here from Bantayan island for 5-6 hours. It was so much fun: Cliff jumping, Blue water, great view and pictures. We enjoyed it so much.

Fantastic island great day out for a group of you..its a short boat ride from mainland or 50 minutes from Bantayan.. A full pump boat there is approx 1500 peso. Carrying up to 12 ppl.. Just tip the captains..its 20 peso to get on and 200 for a chalet well worth it .. Cost nothing between you,.they do actually have drink and snacks to buy there now.. But my advice take a picnic and a cooler .plenty of ice..for the beer..the rides cost a few peso about 50 peso for zip line but everything else free..its nicknamed mini Palawan because the water is clear and fresh good snorkelling and 3 different cliff numb heights .. Get on the 10 metre best!! Plus a Tarzan jump on a rope and now a slide in place.. Great cheap fun been 3 times.. Feel free to ask a question . I've been living in Bantayan.. I'm English guy.
