Tianjin, a major city in North China, has been a crucial trading port since the 14th Century and serves as the commercial gateway to Beijing. It boasts special economic development zones that attract both local and international businesses. The city's proximity to the Yellow Sea makes it an important link between Beijing and the sea, with a rich history evident in its European-style buildings from the 19th century foreign concession era.

Best stops along Guangzhou to Beijing drive
The top stops along the way from Guangzhou to Beijing (with short detours) are Longmen Grottoes, Yellow Crane Tower, and Yuntai Mountain. Other popular stops include Shaolin Temple, Home inn Plus Railway Station Italian Style Street, and Yuelu Mountain.
Nanhua Temple, a famous Buddhist temple and monastery established in the 6th century, is a significant pilgrimage site for Zen Buddhism. It houses important relics such as the body of the Sixth patriarch Huineng, Zen Master Hanshan and stupa of Zen Master Xuyun. Located near Shaoguan, it can be easily accessed by cab or bus. While it has become a popular tourist destination, entrance fees apply to enter this historical temple.
Highly recommend this scared place. Master Huineng is legendary! If you are in Guangzhou and have a day to spare. Take the trip. There are two old buildings built by Master Huineng back in 1300 (Tang Dynasty). His body is also in this temple. The compound is quite big, and it took about 1.5 hours to slowly explore. Entrance fee at RMB20.
Took an hour high-speed train from Guangzhou Nan Station to Shaoguang Station, follow by 25mins taxi ride directly to the temple. Remember to have your passport with you when you buy high-speed train tickets. Go early to queue, took me at least an hour to buy. I bought two-way tickets as i didn't want to quene again at Shaoguang. Check the train schedule online first.

Impressive if you have never been to a Buddhist temple. This temple is very large; the colors and structure of the whole building are fascinating! If you don't want any noise around you, you can go here, because it is quite quiet and peaceful in this temple. There were virtually no tourists when we went.
You simply park in the grass. Entrance was free for us.
However, it is self-service when it comes to guided tours, because there are no guides.
Definitely worth discovering this culture and religion.

This is one of the most important pilgrimage place of zen Buddhism, beside Shaolin temple. Inside here placed the bodies of the sixth patriarch Huineng and Zen Master Hanshan. The stupa of Zen Master Xuyun placed here too. You can reach there by cab or bus from Shaoguan. Since now it's a tourism destination you must pay for entrance ticket to enter it.

It's a Buddhist monastery with history. And it is the most famous monastery of South China.
This place is stunning, one of the UNESCO site. It's not the easiest to get to, but totally worth it. The area is made up of 3 area of different mountain group. Of which, 2 areas have paths set-up for trekking/hiking. While the last (furthest from entrance 1 is natural hike) location - locals suggested for us to not visit as many hikers get lost with no signals there.
We completed each area in 3 hours without much stops. Can be strenuous if you're not usually active. If you're looking to do a leisure strolling pace, might want to consider a 2D1N here. Tickets are valid for 48 hours from date of purchase.
Purchase the tickets outside the entrance (ignore the touts and go straight into the official purchasing counter). Once you enter the main entrance there are free buses every 30minutes to bring you into each area's entrance.
Along the mountain trails there are small shops around to purchase snacks and drinks. Regular paths are rather clear - no guides needed. We didn't take the forest paths.
Be prepared to see endless natural mountain views. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

Yellow Crane Tower, a reconstructed 5-story tower standing at 168 feet high, is a revered landmark in Wuhan. Originally built during the Qing dynasty as a military watchtower, the current building was erected in 1981 and has become the pride of the city. The pagoda features traditional Chinese paintings and calligraphy, decorative lamps, a souvenir shop, and a showroom modeled after ancient Chu-style sitting rooms.
It was an amazing trip to this gorgeous city and the yellow crane tower literally crowned it.

Cheap entrance tickets and free for elderly people.

The Yellow Crane Tower is the great cultural highlight of Wuhan, and it gets better in the evening when the vast majority of the buildings on the bank of the Yangtze River gifting us with an astonishing light show experience. They are covered by LED lights which make the buildings look like a big cinema screen. The yellow lights emerging from Yellow Crane Tower streak across the sky. It worth visiting late in the afternoon to witness its beauty in daylight and at night

This tower was destroyed a bunch of times and rebuilt to the point where there is an elevator inside the tower. Nonetheless, it is very aesthetically pleasing. It's a big campus so is room to wander. Inside the tower has a lack of English signage though so you may want to get a guide (available after entering the campus).

This was one of the highlights of my trip to Wuhan. Such a historical place and the surrounding park reflecting its rich history.
Be warned, in the humid conditions of late summer, it can be quite an arduous trek and climbing up the tower itself with crowds of people can be challenging. But to reach the fifth floor of the tower is an achievement and the breathtaking views of the city are unforgettable.
Bonus: they sell ice cream in the shape of the tower.

A wonderful place to visit in Wuhan. The tower has been rebuilt many times. Although there is easy access by public transportation, I recommend to take a taxi which is pretty inexpensive. The ticket costs RMB 70, and gives access to the entire area that contains the tower. There is even a collection of different stones and gems in one of the building as well as different pavilions and fountains. On the top of the hill there is a big bell. The tower is equipped with an elevator for the elderly. Recommended.

I was impressed by the park and its lake - although its in the city, area is big and green, you feel yourself relaxed, surraunded by nature, dufferent trees, sculptures, chinees temples, small boads floating in water. You can find many benches, as well as cafes and playgrounds for kids. Dont expect, that you see whole park in 1 day - for that you need to rent a bicycle and be fit :) also you may rent a boat (price is fixed for all of them and depends on the distance) to see spectacular vies from the lake side. The park has differently designed areas, for example, traditional chinees garden, modern sculpture park, west plams trees garden and many others. For me the most exciting was walking down the sidewalk, where water is at the both sides.

Hubei Provincial Museum, established in 1953, is a large museum with an impressive collection of around 200,000 historical and cultural artifacts.
All I can say is wow! The overall layout of Hubei Provincial Museum reflects the construction model and characteristics of Chu State (a state in the Spring and Autumn Period (770BC-476BC)). It is amazing to see what kind of technology that they had even before Christ was born. The tomb of Marquis was simply impressive. How well preserved it was as well as all of the artifacts that were buried. He was the 9th emperor of the Han dynasty. There are many photos showing how they excavated the tomb and parts which were completely under water. The majority of the works lost wax technique. It is hard to imagine that they could make such detailed bronze statuary. The museum is split into three parts: the comprehensive exhibition hall, the Chu Culture Exhibition Hall and the Chime Bell Exhibition Hall. The bells were so impressive. There was a small display in a corner where you could simulate the bells tones just by pressing a key on a keyboard. Depending on where the bell was hit was a different tone.

One of the most disappointing museums I’ve visited. The English descriptions were choppy and didn’t paint a comprehensive narrative of the Chu state. Wikipedia does a better job of summarizing their exhibitions. The audio guide you can rent - I DO NOT RECOMMEND. You pay 30 RMB for it and there’s only about 20 descriptions for items in the entire museum. Although the museum is free to enter, truly you don’t get anything out of the experience.

The Longmen Grottoes, a UNESCO-recognized site in China, features numerous Buddha statues carved into limestone cliffs. It is considered one of the few masterpieces of Buddhist rock carving that has survived in the country. Chisellers from the Northern Wei dynasty began this epic feat in 494 after moving their capital to Longmen. Over two centuries, they created more than 100,000 images and sculptures of Buddha and his disciples along over a kilometer of cliff wall by Yi River.
A great display of Chinese Buddhist art, it hosts tens of thousands of statues of buddha. Over the years many have been chopped and/or stolen, or just naturally eroded by wind and water, but they are still on display, reminding you how precious the opportunity is to admire them. The only pity is that the biggest Buddha (卢舍那 in Chinese) is under repair in recent months.

A spectacular site to visit and certainly worth getting to see. Set within a gorgeous location along the river Yi in Henan province, set within the cliffs either side of the river are huge statues, caves dugout with statues set within, the larger ones have reliefs on or niches within the walls of the caves were carved audiences gaze at the centre piece statue. Some of the exposed statues and niche carvings show signs of erosion but otherwise the carvings are exquisite. It is a huge site, so you are likely to / should spend all day there. There is a modern museum at the end where you can learn more about the periods and people, which is really informative.

Spectacular complex with lots of well preserved religious statues spanning the entire face of the cliff. Easy to get to from the city with numerous bus lines terminating here, 90 RMB ticket with 10 RMB required if you want to use the shuttle bus one-way (recommend as the gate is quite a ways away from the main sights with nothing to really see in between), lots of bathrooms, shops, a street dedicated to food and tons of attendants. A must-see in Luoyang.

The Longmen Caves are one of the most popular tourist attractions of the city of Luoyang (洛阳).
What's extremely intriguing is that the place has more than 1300 caves, 2345 cells and more than 50 pagodas. The attraction also has around 100,000 Buddha statues.

This is my second visit after 17 years. Took a slow walk to see thousands of the Buddha statues, some of which were damaged by irresponsible people.

The grottoes and niches of Longmen contain the largest and most impressive collection of Chinese art of the late Northern Wei and Tang Dynasties (316-907). These works, entirely devoted to the Buddhist religion, represent the high point of Chinese stone carving.

A trip to Longmen Grottoes is a must for tourists to Xian! Very well maintained with so much history behind the grottoes.
Kim Hong — Google review
The Longmen Grottoes, located in Luoyang, China, are indeed a remarkable site of cultural and historical significance. They are one of China's most renowned Buddhist art treasures and have been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000. The grottoes were carved into the limestone cliffs over a span of several centuries, from 386 to 1130 during the Northern Wei, Tang, and Song dynasties.
The site stretches for about 1 kilometer along the banks of the Yi River, which divides the grottoes into two sections: the east hill and the west hill. The eastern hill has the majority of the caves, while the western hill features fewer but larger caves. The grottoes are home to approximately 2,345 caves, niches, and rock-cut sculptures, with more than 100,000 Buddhist statues and images.
The statues found in the Longmen Grottoes are varied in size and style. They range from tiny figurines, measuring only 25 millimeters, to colossal statues towering at 17 meters in height. These sculptures exhibit the artistic achievements of different dynasties and reflect the evolution of Buddhist art in China.
The Longmen Grottoes are not only significant for their artistic and religious value but also serve as a historical record of the social, political, and cultural changes that occurred during the time of their creation. They provide insights into the spiritual beliefs, patronage of the ruling elite, and the interplay between Buddhism and other religious traditions in ancient China.
Visiting the Longmen Grottoes allows one to marvel at the intricate carvings, explore the caves, and appreciate the cultural legacy they represent. The site remains an important pilgrimage destination for Buddhists and attracts tourists from around the world who are captivated by its historical and artistic significance.

One of the most outstanding cultural and historical relics in China and a UNESCO Heritage site. Housed in the Longmen Grottoes or Longmen Caves are tens of thousands of statues of Shakyamuni Buddha and his disciples, excellent Chinese Buddhist art constructed from the 5th century BC. It was a unique and fascinating experience walking and appreciating the Grottoes and the statues along the Yi River

One of my favorite places while visiting China. Outstanding grottoes, the place isn't crowded at all, kind of a hidden gem, at least for most international tourists. Be sure to not only see the grottoes but also the temple on top of the hill which is included in the ticket, it's a beautiful a d tranquil place, very quiet and peaceful. Awesome place to spend half a day or more. Make sure to look at all the details in the sculptures.

Shaolin Temple is a famous Buddhist temple that holds a significant place in the history of kung fu. It boasts of hundreds of ancient pagodas and is renowned as the birthplace of this martial art form. The temple offers a full pass that provides access to all activities, including an impressive demonstration worth watching. If you plan on buying a sword there, be mindful if taking public transportation.
I loved that place. It had Buddhist monks chanting mantras, warriors monk displays and many more.
Tahmida Tasmin — Google review
Since a child the Shaolin temple had been on my list of places to visit and it was worth visiting, but there was a touch of 'cheesiness' about it too. The history was astounding and the temples around the site were very decorative and nice, but it is a ‘working’ site, so busy and bustling. The show is worth a watch, as training monks of, some very young, show off their martial arts skills, weapon use and general contorted body positions that will amaze you. We arranged a private taxi to take us to the site – you certainly need a full day to walk around everything. The site itself is beautifully set within lovely Henan Province countryside with large mountains surrounding it. Make sure you visit the temples and sights on the periphery that tend to be overlooked – well worth it. For example, make sure to see the ‘Pagoda forest’, which is both eery and stunning.

One of the most internationally renowned Chinese religious establishment made popular by the many Chinese martial arts movies and movie star Jet Li. The visit to the temple was a little disappointing as it is now more a commercial tourist attraction and a business with scheduled performances and souvenirs. A tourist trap. Detailed descriptions below:
1. Fantastic nature. Dense forests, soaring cliffs, the din of cicadas, humidity in the air.
2. Very well developed infrastructure. Easy to get to from multiple cities, big parking lot, lots of bathrooms, paved roads, benches, signs, a hotel and loudspeakers playing modern music.
3. Super touristy. Thousands of people flocking here with huge tour groups, tons of vendors and stalls selling kung fu figures, ice cream, taking photos.
4. Bored monks. More like tour guides and clerks. The young disciples had tracksuits on and looked more like a gym class than anything.
5. Kung fu show was 30 minutes long and fun to watch. A lot of audience participation and crowd pleasers with superhuman feats.

So I posted a lot of videos and pictures of various things inside the scenic area as opposed to just the temple. What you make of this place depends on your interpretation. If you’re like me and you love Chinese culture and Wuxia and stuff this is great as it is a culturally significant place. If it weren’t for that it’s really just a temple and a mountain with a few extra features which is still fine but nothing to rave about.

Took didi from Zhengzhou to shaolin, and back too. Cost about RMB200 each.
Mixed feeling on this tour. Before heading over was very enthusiastic since being a 金庸 fans, with what we read and saw on TV about Shaolin. I guess it all started wongly when we agreed to have a “tour guide” following us. It’s like the UGLY side of Tourism Scam. These are so called “knowledgeable” guide who will share with you the details of this historical site and charge a mere RMB100 for their service, but sadly, bring you to all sorts of corners where you will fork out more money for joss sticks, prayers, “donations”, gifts etc very willingly. They even end the tour asking if you want to see 舍利子 but is actually a small temple outside where more con men awaits.
Suggestions for friends coming over. Just head over with your passport and get the entrance ticket RMB80. After that, pay another RMB25 for a tram ride (the guide say you have to walk 3km if not). Don’t get joss sticks in front of the temple, that’s another (at least) RMB100. Just head inside and there are free joss sticks and donation is at free will. Don’t go inside those smaller corners like 观音庙, theres monk that do “special prayer” and likewise charges a nominal. Don’t ever go for those name fortune telling. It have a price list there but they tends to overcharge.
There’s a kungfu performance by monks, but you have to pay RMB30 to go in. It’s a 30 mins performance and starts at 2pm. I think it’s worth the additional.
It is a great experience. Experiencing the great history but the bad tourist experience…

The White Horse Temple, believed to be the first Buddhist temple in China, was built in 68 AD. The complex features Chinese Buddhist exhibits and structures including temples and a pagoda. A silent tea house adds to the serene atmosphere of the temple. However, some visitors feel that the new Indian and Thai section detracts from the authentic charm of the place with its foreign styled temples lacking historical or cultural significance.
Amazing and historical living temple filled with monks and people lighting incense and worshipping. Said to be the 'cradle of Chinese Buddhism'. When we were there a woman was hysterically crying...I believe she had recently suffered a miscarriage and had come for solace and to pray for another child. It was very moving.

This Buddhist temple is a very special place. I enjoyed the Chinese Buddhist exhibits, structures and the silent tea house. I will skip the new Indian and Thai section completely when I return. That section takes away from the charm and air of the temple-- a complete waste of space and resources. It consists of some foreign styled temples that are completely devoid of a sense of history, culture and overall meaning. The Chinese temples and pagoda are very special. I will return.

It's a park that built based on classical Chinese painting "Qingming Shang He Tu" or in english "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" which captures the daily life of people and the landscape of the northern song dynasty capital city, bianjiang (now:kaifeng).
The buildings, bridges, city walls and docks in the park are made exactly the same as in the painting. You can find that the workers and staff there are also wear clothes and accessories like they're one of the song dynasty's people.
If you want to dress like them, the park also have some stall that rent out dresses and clothes for man, woman and kids. They also offer photo service if you wanted to take some picture wearing that clothes.
The park also provides many interesting shows that can be watched for free, such as a story about one of the famous hero in Chinese history, Yue Fei. If you want to watch the show, please pay attention to the show schedule and don't be late, because they will close the gate when the performance starts.
Overall, this park is very interesting and worth to go. But unfortunately, when I went there, it was a foggy day..so I couldn't enjoy the park to the fullest.

(Translated by Google) The restoration of this bridge is a disaster in the history of ancient building protection. Not a single part of the old bridge was demolished, and the bright new bridge was built from the ground up. It can be said that today's Zhaozhou Bridge has only one connection with the original monument: the original site. This kind of repair/reconstruction thinking is simply a fool's level catastrophe. After the restoration that year, it was also criticized by academic circles, and lessons were learned from this and established that the restoration of historical monuments should follow the principle of "restoring the old as before". Here are some hand-drawn structural drawings and photos taken by Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin during their inspection in the 1940s as a token of their respect.

напрокат , но мы не брали , на них пропускаешь много интересного
This was an awesome trip. The bus ride from Gu'An alone was worth the price of admission. Authentic rural China experience. I was the only Westerner on the whole lake. The boat ride was a fun ride through lotus covered waters. After the boat ride, we disembarked for a great locally sourced and prepared family style dinner. Not a Michelin star cuisine or ambiance experience, but certainly delicious.

This place has good scenery if you manage to get a good and stable boat to take you on a tour. Wetlands area is windy and pleasant. Beware in summer though. Once the boat stops, mosquitos will attack.

I'll never travel to Beijing without this trip planner again
The tourist attraction known as Fifth Avenue is located in a city region boasting European-style architecture and luxurious homes. This district has a significant historical background with numerous old buildings converted into restaurants and living quarters, providing visitors with a nostalgic experience right at the core of an urban hub. The area offers peaceful strolls while enjoying various architectural designs, showcasing excellent examples of pre-war European homes.
Where British settlers to Tianjin lived in the 1800s and left behind much original Euro-styled architecture mixed with unique Chinese elements such as houses built with stunning porcelain mixtures and Colosseum-like football stadiums. Modern day Wudadao (Five Great Avenues) is filled with creative concept cafes, restaurants, bars. A foodie's paradise and where much of China's Western scenes are filmed as a result of rows upon rows of original European architecture. This is only one of the global ethnic settlements located in Tianjin.

There is a very rich history in this district and a lot of old buildings converted to restaurants and living residences. Very much a blast from the past right in the heart of an urban city

That is beautiful place, quiet and clean, cultural heritage and history of the past, the amazing clubs and restaurants is hidden in there. Must be to visit!
5 stars service, each room provided all the essentials items like tea bags, water, the mini soap has rose petal, and the 2 in 1 (shower+shampoo) washing gel smelled nice.
Con: Check in procedure was long for foreigner, they were not familiar with the passport thing.
Pro: Clean and comfortable room. Great location, 15mins walk from the train station, many restaurants available downstairs. We have flight at night, but need to check out before noon, but we’re welcome to stay in the lobby, and beverage is available downstairs, they also provide desktop computers. (WiFi is available, but login processes is kinda odds)

A place that is perfectly suited to being called the Europe of the East.
Be sure to take a cruise
