Great River Bluffs State Park
State park
Nature & Parks
Park seated on high river bluffs among forests & fields, offering trails, camping & expansive views.
If you want some great views of bluff Country this the place to go. All the overlooks are amazing - Kings Bluff Trail was simply amazing - has its own parking area. 2 more outlooks from the picnic area & 3 more outlooks from the campground area. All with amazing views. Moderate trails with some hills, rocks & roots. Great picnic area with several tables tucked in the woods.

An extremely beautiful park! It's all located basically on one bluff which is pretty unique from what I've seen. There's not a lot of trails but that doesn't mean it's not worth the time to explore every square inch of this park. Every trail pretty much brings you to an overlook of the area and it's worth seeing every one. The campsite we were at was a little small but we managed. They have restrooms at the center of the campground area and they were clean and very nice on the inside. There were no rangers when we first pulled in so we had to fill out a card to register. That being said I had a ton of fun and would love to come back again someday!

Experience the awe-inspiring beauty of the Mississippi River at Great River Bluffs State Park in Minnesota. Hike along trails that lead to breathtaking views of the river and surrounding Kings and Queens Bluffs. With camping facilities and opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife observation, this state park is a nature lover's paradise.

Beautiful park with a great panoramic view at the end of the ~ 3mi round trip hike up the very well maintained King's Bluff trail.
Timothy Woodward — Google review
We took a day trip here while visiting the La Crosse area and the views were breathtaking. The trails were easy to navigate and brought you to some incredible lookouts. There were plenty of picnic tables under the shade for lunch after our hike.

Good park for a quick trip, bluffs in the area are picturesque. Lots of wildflowers. Dont expect much amenities in this park. Worth the stop if you are in the area , not far from the interstate.

This is my 2nd time at this awesome state park. I took the King's bluff trail. It was quite the challenge for me But totally worth it! To get to the peak, the top and see this amazing view was incredible. The Mississippi river and across it into Wisconsin on one side and the bluffs and Valley of Minnesota on the other side. It's a challenge because there are rocky areas it's all up hill and there were areas with big tree roots going through the path. But it was lovely and surprising no mosquitoes!! I definitely will do this again In fall. Do not recommend for a beginner hiker or for anybody with small children though.
Jean Marie Jones — Google review
Great camping spot! Some short hikes to multiple bluffs with beautiful views. The camping spots inside of the road are fairly close together, but the outside sites are nicely spaced away from each other. Bathrooms are very clean and have hot water.
Alex Campbell — Google review
It’s gorgeous scenery and memory together with the family. Once towards the top, it’s amazing and breathtaking to see colorful prairie on one side and Mississippi on the other. Diversity of plants and forests, from oak to pine trees. Very cool temperature even in summer

This park has some of the best bluff-view hiking in SE MN!
Top-notch hiking trails and lots of them!
The campground(s): spacious, well kept, pull-in, tent, cart-in, and hike-in sites.
A little known fact: there are bike-in campsites at a separate location (at the bottom of the bluff) on Hwy. 14 near the Mississippi River that are very nice (the call out is the port-a-potties need some serious work).
Linda — Google review
This has become my new favorite State Park. On the bluffs so you have hardly any mosquitoes. Very quiet and the bathhouse is new and clean. The views are amazing and the hikes are all very manageable.
Jonathan Penn — Google review
Great River Bluffs is a good overall Minnesota state park. Definitely not one of the best state parks I've been to in the state, but far from the worst state parks. The hiking trails along the bluffs are a great hike and have some good views of the Mississippi River Valley below. None of the trails I hiked were difficult at all. The couple outlooks from the main parking lot offer good views and are easily accessible. They have good camping sites and well maintained facilities. The park isn't huge, and besides the outlooks overlooking the river, not much else is too noteworthy.
B A — Google review
I've been around quite a bit and I gotta say. This is probably my favorite state park yet. You drive up the steep incline and all the trails are flat with the best out look I can think of.
William Powers — Google review
A must see! This park is a true hidden gem. Easy hiking with spectacular views. We will be back soon
Stephanie Barnes — Google review
Beautiful views from multiple overlooks. Many easy trails also. The north and south overlooks are only a few minutes from a parking area, and the main overlook is about 1.5 -2 hours on a mostly flat trail. Definitely worth a visit!
Simon Anderson — Google review
It was an absolute surprise how beautiful this place is in the fall. A wonderful view of the Mississippi river. I did the full hike, with all overlook options. It is not a very steep hiking, i saw a lot of elderly people walking and also many places to rest during the hike.
Make sure you being cash in case you don’t have a pass, no electronic payment for day pass. It costed $7, the process is all manual.
Jair Netto — Google review
Great park to visit for some hiking, botanizing, and great views of the Mississippi River. The hike out to King’s Bluff was epic. The bluff prairies are a sight to behold, with such diversity and a great showing of plants in this remnant ecosystem. Facilities were all clean, with drinking water available in multiple locations. Campground was wonderful and access to the park is great, being right off of I-90.
My family drove 2.5 hours here to surprise my mom for her birthday. Seeing an owl in person was on her bucket list. This trip did not disappoint. She was so surprised. We had so much fun learning about owls! Staff was super friendly, informative, knowledgeable, passionate and really made our trip here memorable. We met 3 owls! My son got to do a scavenger hunt inside the center. He got to hold and feel different fathers. We read owl books. We pledged to do things to help keep owls safe. There was also a very cute section where owl things were being sold….owl shirts, hand painted owl decor, owl puzzles, owl books for all ages, owl art by kids across the world, owl pens, jewelry, soap, etc. This center was in a cool old building that was quaint and definitely loved. I did see a sign for a new building though.
Overall fun trip for kids and adults. Just seeing an owl so colors was in itself very very cool! Thank you to all who talked with us today!

This is a cute and educational micro museum. Be sure to make the timed talks. There is a fun scavenger hunt for all ages. The art work is from around the world and it's fascinating to see the international influence on the art. If you're in the area stop in.

This place was a hoot, and yes I do mean that as a pun! The center is absolutely worth a visit to learn more about owls, with so many fun surprises & treasures inside, which I won’t spoil here. Thanks, Jo, for making our visit so special and inspiring!

The International Owl Center came to our local library and we decided to visit during the beautiful fall weather. Lots of fun for all ages. Their educational programs are good for families and kids and the Center has lots of learning and international interaction. We plan to come for their festival in March. We are excited for the future home and the fundraising to make that possible.
Daniel Mueller — Google review
The program was outstanding. The educational displays were informative. My favorite part were the childrens' drawings associated with their annual art contest. I couldn't believe over 2700 were submitted from all over the world. Wow.

Great day trip from La Crosse. Learn about owls and see them up close. Staff is very knowledgeable. Nice gift shop. Recommend for kids interested in science and the great outdoors. Best to time your arrival with the start of their shows.

We visited after going to the Driftless Area Education Center in Lansing. This was a very pleasant surprise! There were at least 50 people from all over the country for the live owl presentation we attended. The staff was very informative and entertaining. We even learned why using poison for mice/rats is deadly for owls. It's a small place packed with a lot of information and definitely worth the stop.
Jane Freehauf — Google review
Amazing! Incredible program filled with great information, touch and feel displays, scavenger hunt that takes you all through the building, very knowledgeable and friendly educator, and more. Highly recommend! educational and recreational.
Christa — Google review
I'm not really sure what their mission, vision, or values are. It's basically a room with a few owls. There's limited information on the owls, their diets, habitat, history, etc. It feels like a place that calls themselves international, but is mainly Minnesota focused. There are only 2 "shows" per day, and if you miss these, you'd see a few owls. There's also a strong consumerism pitch, as about half the exhibit is a gift shop, and you have to go through this on the way in and out.
The staff is knowledgeable, but that doesn't come through with their presentation.
Steven Laken — Google review
I love birds! So when I found out there was an owl place that was within reach... I took my boyfriend hostage and drove all the way over to the small town!
The owl center is rather small, but what they lack in size, they make up for in owl knowledge! 🦉 they have hands-on items you can touch to feel the difference in feathers. They had 4 very cute and calm owls. You can see all the owls online to know a little more! They have shows a few times a day too. Expect to be there for at least 30 minutes to see everything. Shows last about 1 hr.
So many awesome pictures and art made by children of all ages were amazing! As an amateur artist myself, I was blown away by some of the pictures! You can even BUY some of the masterpieces!
That wasn't all! They had an owl sculpture scavenger hunt! This town is very tiny, so finding the sculptures isn't too bad. It was a lot of fun to see some of the interesting things this town had! I posted a pic of one of the sculptures I had found... you're going to have to go to see the rest!

They were so informative and answered so many questioned

A very educational experience and a good way to spend the day with the family. There were four live owls available to view and a very informative presentation that lasted about an hour, finishing with the host bringing one of the owls around through the audience for a close encounter. i learned a lot about owls that I never knew or even thought of.

When we arrived we were greeted at the front counter by a very pleasant and informative staff person. We paid our entrance fee and joined the group participating in the demonstration/ presentation which included a live Owl. Very informative speaker. Many visual displays as well as a nice amount of gift items and souvenirs for sale. I would recommend visiting at least once!

The International Owl Center was our first stop on our vacation and it was a great way to start! We listened to a very good, knowledgeable, and entertaining presentation along with a close up look at a live owl. There was also a very nice owl gift shop and a wonderful display of children's owl art from around the world.
Expansive museum offering classic & contemporary marine-themed paintings & sculpture, plus a garden.
Wow! I can't believe I've never been and it's right in my back yard. So nice! I took pics of what I could, but there are a few rooms where no photography is allowed. We got there late so we could really only take in a small bit but we will definitely be going back.

Today was the first time ever that our 9-yr old and 6-yr old granddaughters visited an art museum. I anticipated spending at most one hour at the museum and prepared them for their first visit to understand what they would see and what behavior expectations were. Thanks to a little preparation and the Bingo Scavenger Hunt the museum has ready in 3 different difficulty levels, my girls had an incredibly successful and rewarding visit they will not soon forget! We came ready with sketch pads and a pencil to draw a favorite piece of art. The museum offered a pencil bag with a full colored pencil set, a variety of pencils in different hardnesses for shading, and a pencil sharpener for their use! My granddaughters were quite excited and enthralled by the Bingo activity, and the other few activities set up for children, such as the table with the paper shredder, the art table to take a photo of their artwork and display it in a virtual quilt projected on the wall, and learning how to be an "artivist". Furthermore, they sat on the ground to sketch a photo and a painting, and learned what Impressionism is as well as the immense talent the makers of these pieces of art have. The girls and I have painted together oh so many times and started to understand the magnitude of skill of these artists. I cannot thank the museum staff enough for truly understanding how to help children interact with art! This was a gift that continued to give: Once at home, they grabbed their colored pencils and finished their sketches, took photos of them, shared them with their friends, and proudly showed them to their parents. The older granddaughter told her mother how much she LOVED the art museum and she'd like to go to more art museums. I wanted to cry when I heard this!! They are planning their next visit to a nearby art museum they have never made the time to see. I plan on the many art museums in the Twin Cities in the next year. Thank you for having had such a positive influence on these children.
C Sturm — Google review
This museum was way above and beyond my expectations. The incredible diversity of extremely well-known and internationally recognized names in art, particularly in impressionistic art, was unbelievable. This was an incredible gem - I am still legitimately surprised that their collection is so amazing. It cost approximately $9 per adult to get in ($3 if you are a student) and the setting is really pretty – you can see barges and Bluffs and there is lots of outdoor seating. This is certainly one of the nicest private collections in the Midwest. Five stars, but only because I can’t give it six!
Jason Christenson — Google review
What a surprise this was. I had no idea it existed until I drove by. Entry is $10, $8 for seniors and less for kids. Cool building overlooking the river. They had one gallery just loaded with classic painter's works...Cezzane,Gougin,Picasso, Manet. Don't expect a big city collection but for a small town museum, this one is very impressive!

Stunning art exhibits inside the museum and natural beauty outside the museum. The art, permanent and temporary exhibits, are worthy of the absolute best big city museums, and yet we can find them here in rural Minnesota.

Super cool place. They have student ticket prices. Lots of friendly staff, and they really put in the work to make your experience a good one. They also had a kids area, and miscellaneous interactive things to do. My boyfriend is a marine life nerd, so this was a perfect place to spend the day. We will be back!

A wonderful museum -- I'm a member. It's worth the drive from the Twin Cities to visit. There is always something new and wonderful.
Douglas Shambo II — Google review
This museum is surprisingly nice, well done, and large. There are six different exhibits inside that are very different but relate to marine life or nature in some way. At the time of visit, there was a special exhibit from the New York Historical Society called The Poetry of Nature. The worker in the room went above and beyond to give us recommendations on where to start, a little background, and some other small but significant details that would not have been known without him. The museum is right along the Mississippi which is also very nice and convenient. There is lots of parking and offer discounted prices for many groups of people such as elderly, students, and kids. Wheelchair accessibly is also great with wheelchair accessible parking, first floor entrance, and ADA-compliant bathrooms.
Jacob Kobilarcsik — Google review
The museum is an amazing experience. You don't expect something like this in a small town. This was my second time and the art always takes my breath away. So many unique artists come through. There are current unique pieces and some amazing classical paintings. This time there were paintings from the Hudson River historical society and sculptures by Courtney Matteson and her work was powerful. You know how she feels about the coral reefs health in this world. Her art makes you stop and take stock of our responsibility to our planet. I highly recommend.
Deb V — Google review
I love this museum!!! The events and galleries are fantastic. They added this accessibility cart, which I love! There's a wonderful spot outside with tables for enjoying the river or enjoying a picnic outside of the building. See the gyotaku exhibit while there's still time!

Attended the Winona garden tour & the MMAM participated. Beautiful gardens surround the property and are an extension of the galleries. The path was pea gravel and this offered some complexities for mobility but it was found some areas were more difficult than others. Took the opportunity to see the art galleries offerings. This was an unexpected delight. Work this into your travel plans.
Meandering thoroughfare heading to Garvin Heights City Park with lodging & a winery along the way.

Love strolling through the gardens. So much information. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Top notch community theater in a fun, scenic town nestled in Amish country. The audience surrounds the stage on three sides and the actors move around quite a bit so every perspective is good. It's small enough to feel intimate and pull you into the action. The prices are quite reasonable too, especially the season passes if you live close enough to go every month.

Interesting to see how goggles can be part of pain management.
Very serious, complex play & so well done. Stories that deal with suffering make me feel empathy & realize that others are also dealing with problems of changes, loss, etc. I liked Tim's character which added some humor at times. Stella's statement about how hard it is to "keep it all together" reminded me of 5 yrs ago when we were dealing with our 1 yr old grand daughter who had Stage 4 cancer. It was such a rough yr with 6+ mo in 3 different hospitals, 7 surgeries & endless chemo, feeding tubes etc. Thanks for the community you offer while sharing stories
of real depth. Bravo Commonweal!

"Death Trap" was a great show! Well-performed, and full of surprises. See it while you still can through the end of August.
I also saw "Women in Jeopardy" - hilarious with a wonderful cast. Catch it while you can through mid-October.

She Loves Me was funny, witty, entertaining, and the cast was exceptional. My husband and I had never been to Commonweal before, but now we're going to buy season tickets - we were so impressed and had a great time. The Commonweal Theatre Company is always a fabulous winner! The Comedy and Choreography is amazing. Jekyll and Hyde is masterfully presented as a study of mental illness denied and unsupported. With a red door on stage serving as portals to abodes as well as to black outs of terror. Sensitively and horrifyingly electric just in time for Halloween and much food for thought as well. Wonderful, as usual! Thank you all! Barbara

My family loved seeing Deathtrap and Women in Jeopardy! Both were great shows. The cast and sets were excellent! Women in Jeopardy had us laughing nonstop and Deathtrap was filled with twists that kept you on the edge of your seat! The theater space is intimate with an excellent view from any of the seats. I highly recommend a visit to this theater!

I had given this business a 5-star rating 4 years ago. It has really changed and changed the dynamic of vacationing in Lanesboro. What used to be family-friendly or just laid back couple or friend vacay friendly is now the total opposite. It's drunkfest, glass bottles, garbage in the river, it's awful. This business now markets to and caters to young partiers that have no respect for the environment. One look at their social media will show you how their marketing to a certain base has changed the culture and experience in Lanesboro. This makes me so sad as it is a place that we have been going to for 15 years. We started going there before we had children and now that we have kids we won't be going back. We were partiers once too, but there's a way to do it more respectfully. We even did it on the river as well but without trashing everything. This company now definitely encourages bad behavior. We are so sad about this and sad for the tourism in Lanesboro. I don't think it will be long before the majority gets turned off from going there too. Our visit there last week we met new people and spoke with other people we knew from years of going there and we did not hear anything positive at all. Everyone is pointing the finger at this business for encouraging the change, including other businesses in Lanesboro. This destination has become much like the Apple River in Wisconsin. It's getting pretty bad.

It was such a beautiful day, nice little rapids throughout the route!
Dawn Bangert — Google review
I got there right around 1:45 pm and was able to get a "fancy" tube. There are "regular" tubes and "fancy" tubes for slightly more $$. paid $20 for a fancy one. Boy was it fancy - came with a back rest, cup holder, and I believe a back up air reservoir in case the thing popped or the valve came unsealed?
There's also an option to get a tube for your cooler for $10, so I hot one of those too ferda cooler 😀
Ya float down the Root River and there's some fun rapids, couple are a doozy! It's a little chilly at first but quickly becomes the perfect temperature water.
After about 3 hours, you get off at the exit sign any they pick you up in an old Diesel school bus.
It seems like you've floated into a different county entirely but after a 10 minute bus ride, you're back to where you started 🤯🤯🤯🤯
*"Only reason I rate it 4 out of 5 is because they had ran out of twine string that is used to tie your tube to your buddies' tube/ your cooler tube so I was forced to scavenge some dirty old twine I found along the river
Kristopher Moen — Google review
They did a great job getting our large group going and out on the river tubing. I wish they had better or actual cooler-tubes but they provided twine to tie everything down.
M Burnham — Google review
Have had great experiences with this outfitter. At times they are very busy so there can be a wait but it is worth it because soon you'll be on the Root River relaxing without a care in the world. We are grateful for their daily facebook posts about the conditions on the river and what services are available like tubing or kayaking and such. We have always appreciated their idea of safety first based on the river conditions and mother nature. Their tubes are comfortable for a float and their other equipment like kayaks and paddles are in good condition. They offer different routes for different lengths of time and pick up services at the end of your river run.
Jeff H — Google review
I had read the reviews and was a little weary due to all the complaints about the rude customer service.... I thought the customer service went above and beyond! This was our first visit, we came in deep with a group of seven, they kept the line moving quickly, they answered all my questions and explained what to expect along the route, one thing to note is they do not allow you to tie your tubes together... However the gentleman had gone and gotten us straps to connect our little ones too... they did say they were numbered so we were thankful to have them and thankful he ran back to get them for us. The river was so much fun. It was shallow at points... but you cant blame the river. The tubes held up great! I would recommended bringing your own cooler tube as the tubes they give you for the coolers are the same ones you sit in with an open bottom- but we made it work) The Bus Driver picking us up was friendly, all the staff we encountered were friendly. It was a great time! We will back!
Fantastic place! Wonderful sanctuary where injured eagles, who are unable to survive in the wild can live out their lives being well taken care of. Seeing bald eagles in person has been on my bucket list forever and now I've actually gotten to see them! So majestic and amazing! Also saw them flying over the Mississippi River too!
See the largest eagle art collection upstairs, featuring gorgeous paintings and artifacts. Highly recommend a visit.

Fantastic center. Highly informed people answering all questions delightfully. The exhibits are fun and informative. I enjoyed seeing the multiple Audubon pages of the bald eagle.
There was a presentation at the facility across the street. We weren't able to attend because all of the seats were already taken. The show was at 1 and we got there at about 12:30 so prepare appropriately if you'd like to see it.
There is a great patio outside of the center. It was raining so we weren't able to go out there but it looked beautiful.
It is worth a second trip so I look forward to going back.

Great place to check out. Have live Eagles that can not be released to the wild due to their injuries before rehabilitation. Great viewing are of the river with scopes to try and spit birds. A huge Eagle paraphernalia collection, activities for kids and adults. Fun gift shop area. Part of Blue Star Museums for military.

Great place to visit. Lots to learn and see. The live eagle display was so worth seeing and listening to the keepers answer questions. Also the extra cost for the program is worth it, too.
Kelly Doris — Google review
It's cool for a one time visit, it seems like they do a lot of good work but I wish they made it easier to see the eagles, they were behind doors with only small windows. I'd recommend calling before going to see if the birds will be out or if you can sign up for some sort of interaction. The museum portion was interesting.

Personally I would not go back.
There were only 3 real eagles to see, not much to do with kids.
Behind the building - beautiful river and bridge but you can enjoy it without going inside

A great stop while in Wabasha! Very educational and laid out well. The center itself is not very big so you don’t need to plan more than an hour to look at everything. The educational program was extra but I highly recommend doing it. The presentation was an hour long and we learned so much in addition to seeing an eagle close up! The presenter was very knowledgeable and did a fantastic job. They also have two gift shop areas with fun souvenirs.

Another great visit to the Eagle Center. Brought a friend who had never been there and we went to the 45 minute program and got to meet Ambassador Angel who is my favorite. Lots to look at in two separate buildings along with the new museum upstairs. Plan to spend at least 1-2 hours if you want to see it all. In the Summer months you can take an Eagle cruise down the river which I did last year and it was fabulous!

We rented a houseboat and docked at the Eagle Center for a few hours but didn't get to go in because some of the people I was with didn't want to. But the outside was beautiful and clean. There is even a fascinating park and water feature next to it. I'm coming back with a friend later this fall to visit the center and check out the eagles.

The National Eagle Center is a wonderful place. We've visited several times and will again, bringing our children and grandchildren. Not only does the center offer fun, educational exhibits, and interactive classes, but they also put funds toward important work.
I recommend this amazing spot. The river views alone are breathtaking, but the eagle ambassadors are majestic!

Great place to learn, not just about the birds but also look into American history.
New to the area so parking was questionable but we found a spot a couple blocks away near some ongoing construction.
The flooded forest tour far exceeded our expectations. Our small group has already been discussing doing the same flooded forest tour during different seasons in order to experience the river during different conditions, but we all agree we would be completely happy doing the same tour during the same season as well. Although we have some experience kayaking on lakes our kayaking experience on rivers was fairly limited, but that did not impact our trip at all. When first meeting at Broken Paddle storefront any worries or concerns were immediately put to rest as we encountered the perfect energy and attitude from our guide Laura and the other workers at Broken Paddle. Laura, our guide was the absolute perfect guide for our group. She was knowledgeable about the river, plant and animal life and the outdoors in general. She had a perfect energy and vibe for our group of 4. We lost track of the amount of eagles we saw along the trip and even paddled
directly underneath a number of them as they watched us go by. Thank you Broken Paddle and specifically Laura for an amazing July Saturday on the river. We made family memories that will last a lifetime.

Such a fun experience and the staff are great! Broken Paddle has rentals and will drop off kayaks from a launch point of your choosing while you follow them in your car. Went through the Mississippi back channels on the Wisconsin side and saw 4 Bald Eagles! Definitely recommend checking out this company and will be back.

One of best days we’ve ever had in a kayak. Had such great time on the morning Flooded Forest trip, we booked the Sunset/Brewery trip as soon as we got back to the store! Finnegan was absolutely one of the best guides we’ve ever had. Knowledgeable on the local area history and all the wildlife we encountered on the trip. After a short time on the water it felt like we were paddling with someone we had known for years! Thanks for the awesome day Finnegan!!!

Great experience enjoying nature on a beautiful day! We did the flooded forest tour which took us about 3 hours to finish, with a quick stop to stretch our legs along the way. While the pictures online do depict going through almost a covered canopy, we were told the water levels today were about two feet below what is needed to really experience that. Nevertheless, definitely saw a fair amount of eagles, turtles, and a snake. Taylor and Sam did a great job of leading us through this adventure! Would absolutely come back!!
Anna Vang — Google review
Had this been marketed differently, I think I would have enjoyed it more. Our group of four took the Flooded Forest 3.5 hour tour for my birthday. The description of the tour and corresponding “tour basics” email confirmation held many mistruths.
1. The photo on their webpage makes it seem like you’ll be kayaking through a canopied sunken forest. While the kayaking was beautiful, the reality is there is no tree canopy and it’s a gorgeous inlet. Again, beautiful, but not what was expected. Also about 1/3 of the trip was on wide Mississippi channels with speedboats and riverboats, which meant faster waters and navigating the waves resulting from their wakes.
2. The tour description and tour basics page says “All Broken Paddle guides are trained outdoor educators with long educational careers in natural history, experiential teaching, and local history.” The website says they love teaching about the ecosystem. We did not find this to be the case and was the most disappointing. Our tour guide was in their first semester of college and, aside from pointing out the raspberry color of milkweed and a few turtles, there was no education or mention of our surroundings. The guide was pleasant and kind, but not an “educator with a long educational career in natural history”.
3. The “tour basics” page you receive after registering gives you a list of things they’ll provide and a list of things you should bring. Among the list of things provided were sunscreen, bug spray, and a snack. When we arrived, I asked about the sunscreen and bug spray because I hadn’t packed any based on the website info. The people checking us in said they don’t provide that, but we were welcome to purchase those items (of course at much higher prices than what you’d pay in a store). I reminded them that their webpage states it’s provided and they became quite rude. Also, there will not be a snack provided, so definitely pack your own. Your guide will, however, eat a snack at the stop you’ll make.
Again, I think if this were marketed as a kayaking trip where you could enjoy the peaceful silence and had different photos, along with correct information about what was provided, I would have had different expectations and rated it much more highly.

Absolutely gorgeous experience! I've had so much fun paddling through the amazing Mississippi river area. The waters were very calm and beginners friendly, but still very diverse. My guide Drew made sure I had an awesome experience, keeping me safe, and he gave me a lot of insight into the local plant and animal life. I would definitely come back for another tour. Highly recommend.

Our day paddling with Broken Paddle was the highlight of our trip. They gear was top notch & the guiding services made this trip adventurous and very safe. I would definitely recommend Broken Paddle for an experience of a lifetime. Paddling in the forest was breathtaking. Thanks Brady & Taylor! Our group had a wonderful time!
Karst caves with limestone rock formations & million-year-old aquatic fossils, plus guided tours.
This place provides very unique and unforgettable touring experience! It is hard to find words to describe how spectacular and stunning the cave is! By observing the different structures of the cave and learning how they are formed, it really tells the greatness of the Creator.
Our tour guide is very knowledgeable and friendly. The whole tour lasted around 1 hour, and we had never got bored during the whole time! Highly recommended especially to families who have kids!

Super cool experience, nice clean facility with gift shop and bathrooms. Mini golf outside with little snack stand. Playground and picnic tables with cover outside. Our tour guide Sergei had a very good knowledge of the caves.
It is quite chilly and a good amount of exercise so dress appropriately with light/medium long sleeve, good shoes important with plenty of stairs and wet surfaces. Highly recommend for all ages!

Worth it, just go ahead and get your tickets.
This guided tour is very informative & keeps you engaged for the entire one hour.
So much to know about the geology of the cave formation and so much to see underneath.
An exciting experience to have. The cave is well maintained and no you won't feel claustrophobic down there & definitely no funny smell.
Just watch your steps and have a good time.

What an AWESOME experience! I surprised my husband and children (ages 3, 6 and 10) with a day trip to the Niagara Cave yesterday. We traveled from the Twin Cities and it made for a beautiful 2 1/2 hour drive. Boy were we in for a treat! The cave is beautiful and well maintained. We had the pleasure of taking a tour with Michael✨ as our guide. He was genuinely friendly and very knowledgeable! The other staff were also warm and welcoming. While on the tour, the 100+ foot waterfall was thrilling to look down at while on the bridge 😅 and it was very neat to see the different stalagmites, stalactites, and fossils throughout the trek 200 feet below ground. I look forward to returning in the near future for the lantern tour... 🔦 Thank you for the unique family fun learning experience, Niagara Cave! ☺️

This was the perfect rainy day activity for our family of 3 with a 3 year old. One adult needed to help carry the toddler down and up some of the steep stairs, but fun was had by all. Our guide was very informative and we never felt rushed to hurry through. We felt as though we got our money's worth, and the gift shop had reasonably priced memorabilia.

Great family experience. Our almost 4 year old was able to walk all of it. I did carry him for some down the stairs climbs. This is a cool cave for all who ate adventurous.

Be prepared for all the stairs. It was an absolutely gorgeous destination. I am extremely claustrophobic and did not feel trapped once. It does get tight in a couple spots but the 48 degree temps, 200 feet down helps with people like me so hate tight spots. The guide was super friendly and gave us a wealth of information. The chapel was a unique touch .

We went on a Saturday and it’s obviously a popular place, but wasn’t crazy busy. The caves were really cool. Brady was our tour guide and he did an awesome job. An hour was a perfect amount of time for a tour. Don’t let the stair count scare you from taking the tour! They are spread out and there is only one longer section, not 200+ stairs in one continuous spot. We did the mini golf after, which was a short easy course. The gift shop is reasonably priced and it was nice to have things to look at before the tour started. Great day trip!

Nice visit to the cave, everyone can do it with ease. It’s a long and fun walk as you go down levels. One of the main attraction inside to see waterfalls inside cave. Guide who took in tour was nice. Make sure you have light jackets as temp will stay around ~48-50F. Gift shop has real dinosaur eggs for $10,000. Overall I would recommend it. Out of crystal cave and Niagara, I prefer Niagara cave

A very interesting place to spend few hours. Amazing natural formations and fossils. Please follow the warning signs on display. Although, this is not a strenuous walk, there are few places which may get steep. Also, it gets pretty cold underground, so make sure you carry your jackets. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. There is a gift shop as well.

A fun little gem in the middle of farmland. Even as adults we really enjoyed this tour. About 1 hour tour, out and back. It can get chilly down there so dress an extra layer. The lighting is great down there so it really puts things into perspective. Zero cell reception in the cave. About $20 for a single adult. Worth it. Plus mini golf, gift shop and playground with plenty of picnic tables for an afternoon if you bring a lunch!

My family and I LOVED this tour. Prices are rational, and their gift shop is AWESOME!!
MAKE SURE TO DRESS WARM. It is very cold in the caves. We bought sweaters there because we didn't even think about it. We spent 90$ for 3 sweaters, but at least the sweaters are cute!!

This was a great experience. We enjoyed the tour and the cave was very cool. The lighting inside was magical. The path was pretty easy, but there are 550 steps total, so be sure you can handle that. They are pretty casual going down, but you have to do all of them in one go on the way back up. I would try to request a child-free tour. As parents ourselves, the 4 misbehaved little kids on our tour took the overall experience from a 10 to a 7.

I loved this tour, my 13-14 year olds liked it more than they expected. Our guide was great and able to answer most my questions. :). If you like cave exploring, add this to your list of places to go!
Nikki Gakin — Google review
This is a fun hour long private cave tour kinda in the middle of nowhere. The cave can get very narrow in spots making it feel like and underground slot canyon. Plus there is a sizable waterfall underground to view. There are a few steps but they are broken apart during your tour so it is manageable for most persons. Also the grounds outside are set with shelter and picnic area, as well as mini golf.
Quarry Hill Nature Center is a large park that provides visitors with an array of outdoor activities such as hiking on lush trails, exploring the man-made cave, and observing live animals in the nature center. The center offers informative classes for children and adults alike. Furthermore, the grounds are well-maintained with beautiful scenery suitable for hiking enthusiasts, even though some trails may be muddy at times. The staff is knowledgeable and focused on teaching visitors about nature without any distractions.
This is a wonderful place especially if you have children! So many things to do inside the little center. Lots of hands on for the children. I have no children but I certainly enjoyed it as well! The grounds are beautiful even though it's early Spring and nothing is green yet. But it's lovely hiking you just have to watch out because some of the trails are kind of mushy yet. It would be a fun activity for a family or people who just like to hike and see nature

Just a jewel for the community. It makes me want to live in Rochester. I also have bad knees and there are paved trails, as well as walking past lined with mulch.
Cheryl Campbell — Google review
We adore Quarry Hill! Whether you are adults going for a hike, or kids looking to visit the nature center; whether you come with a school group and a structured program, or a toddler and preschooler looking for things to do on a gray or cold day: This place has something for you!
In the nature center, there are snakes that are native to Minnesota, fish, turtles, insects, frogs, and information and displays about birds - as well as a climbing structure/"treehouse", in a book room for even the youngest children. There are even fun donation bins available for help feeding the nature center animals and maintaining trails and outdoor buildings.
Outside, there are miles and miles of paths, whether paved, wood chips, or naturally worn in the grass and dirt. There is a beautiful pond in the middle with a very small island you can walk out onto, and even the pond as wildlife such as ducks and geese who stay over or stop by, and even beavers. We were really lucky and saw the beavers diving down to the bottom of the mostly frozen pond, and bringing pond weeds back up to eat on the surface of the ice. The pond never freezes over completely because there is a pump. You cannot walk on the ice! But that's just fine because even a winter pond is home to many animals, and they deserve to have the pond to themselves, in that way.
In the winter, there are groomed trails for cross country skiing, as well as skis available. This year was not good for that because we've had so little snow. But most Winters, outdoors at Quarry Hill is a cross country skiing Destination, in cooperation with local school cross country/Nordic teams.

This place holds a special place in my heart, as my children spent so much time here when younger. This is one the best oasis’s in Rochester, especially for guests visiting the area looking for fresh air & a nice hike. There is a cemetery, cave, old quarry ( the best), tadpoles in the pond, butterflies & bees habitats. You can watch bird tagging, attend a class, have a birthday party, go to summer camp, climb the rock wall, cross county ski, look for fossils, bird watch, snow shoe, hike, or just have a picnic. The options are endless- and they only ask for a donation. Please consider donating if you enjoyed your visit to keep it open & free to all. The giant fish inside, turtles, owls, and snakes add to the excitement too. The library is a perfect spot to wind down Before heading home for a nap. Photo of our hike- we saw an eagle & found morels in the spring.

This place is huge and a lot of fun! They have great trails in the nature for hiking and/or biking. There’s a cave, river, and you can see different biospheres depending on where you are in the park. A lot of people were here with their family and it looked like there was a school field trip happening here as we visited.

There are many great trails for running and hiking. This is a very dog friendly place. However, it can be very busy and the loops are not very large.
I haven’t tried it yet, but I think you can rent skis or snow shoes in the winter.

I've always enjoyed long walks with my walking and talking buddy and friends. Growing up on the farm, it's like having a little nature and country in the city, I've taken many photo opportunities of the birds, insects, and plants. The history is interesting. Be sure to enjoy the animals, insects, fish, reptiles & amphibians INSIDE, too. Great learning opportunities for young children.

This place is really cool! But the staff running the programs are extremely ableist. My son who is in a wheelchair couldn't be included in the school field trip today because the staff was determined to go on the unpaved trails instead of the paved trails. So while the rest of his class went on the unpaved trails, my son was left out. Why should kids with disabilities be segregated like that? Why should they have to conform to what all the typical kids can do? By 2023 I expect more of this place. If your disabled kid is going on a field trip to Quarry Hill, I guess just keep them at home because the staff there do not foster an inclusive environment. I hope this changes sooner than later.

Finally made a trip to aee the cave and it was cool. It's actually not a guided tour because the cave is small enough for you to go in on your own but it is helpful to bring your own large flashlight if you want to see a little better. We used our phone flashlight and that was all right too.

Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial is a verdant expanse with a meandering wall, water features and effigies dedicated to American veterans. It honors the brave servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives in defense of freedom. The granite wall bears names of local veterans, while flags representing different branches and military artillery statues stand within the park. It offers ample open space, picnic benches, tennis courts, baseball field, running track and bathrooms.
What an awesome experience today. The veterans who brought our students on the tour did a great job. I had yet to check this place out. It was very well done.

Very nice tribute to America's veterans. There is a sculpture in the middle of the memorial of a mother and child. The woman is holding a telegram informing her that her husband was killed in action, as she looks skyward and her child is clutching her side. Timeless and incredibly sorrowful, as is the the medic/corpsman sculpture directly behind the wall. A very nice memorial.

Memorial Park honoring the brave, the defenders of our freedom and those who gave the greatest sacrifice-their lives. Beautiful granite wall honoring the names of local men and women who served, flags of the different branches, statues depicting their service and actual military artillery. The surrounding park offers plenty of opening space, two play areas, plenty of picnic benches and park shelters, tennis courts, baseball field, dirt running track and public bathrooms. Adjacent pool/water park and golf course are also available. Park and surrounding grounds are clean, but clearly dated and showing need of repair and replacement. Plenty of parking and walking/biking trails.

Another trip to Mayo Clinic in Rochester... But we had our granddaughters with us this time! We had some time kill so I brought them to the incredible Veterans Memorial just down from Mayo Clinic in Soldiers Field area. The girls are only 5 & 8 yrs old and they still enjoyed it. I am retired Air Force and it was an honor to try to explain to them what the gorgeous engraved murals depicted. The life sized statue displays were really impacting and I think they could get the feel for it. Then I showed them all the names of those honorable service members who never came back to their families. Their Father is also in the military.
The unbelievable precision in the construction of this Memorial is mind boggling. There is a small space between each piece of of granite. As one of my photos show, looking in that space exactly lines up with the flag pole! There are so many other impressive things to experience but you should come see it for yourself. You will never regret it.
God bless those who served and were never able to return home. They are our heros!

I've been to a solid number of wineries in my lifetime, and Four Daughters has always been the best. I first went there in 2014 and have basically been thinking about it ever since then. It's about three hours away from my house in a direction we don't go very often, so I didn't get the chance to go back until ten years after the fact. I made a special detour to go by myself, and I didn't have very long, but I got to do a white wine tasting and have the cheeseburger. Truly one of the best cheeseburgers I have ever had - and the fries too. Parmesean truffle fries. There wasn't a single wine I didn't like. The moscato-ish one was a bit too sweet, but I would still happily drink it. The Brianna is my absolute favorite, but any of the whites are really spectacular. If you like wine even a little bit - if you like cheeseburgers even a little bit - you have GOT to go.

The charcuterie board was excellent we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I particularly don’t usually like them. Because the cheese is usually flavorless and the meats are cheap. They were the opposite it was very good! I got the cheeseburger meal and it was the best burger I’ve had in along time. The meat was tasted like a mixture of high grade steak with grass fed burger. Flavorful and the texture was just right. To call it a hamburger doesn’t do it justice.

Great experience. Loon juice (cider) flights were a hit for non-wine drinkers. Mix of Minnesota grown grapes(Marquette) and California grapes barreled and aged on-site. We had the Sangiovese wine after trying a flight. Excellent pizza. Italian sausage, rosemary, and pistachio was very good, but the pepperoni and corn on the cob was the bomb. Totally unexpected. The smoked corn with cheese..... I could go on and on. It disappeared from the plates quickly. Did I say the pizza was great?

This winery has some fantastic wines that would easily rival most wine country vineyards on the West Coast. Superb selection of reds and whites. To add to that, they also make excellent apple cider. There is a menu of pizzas, cheese plates, and other foods as well. Baby friendly. Very friendly staff. And to add to all of that, there is also a distillery in the back serving up some good bourbon. Definitely a place to visit if you're in the area.

It was a nice experience. The first problem was that they had our group seated at a high-level table, which wasn't appropriate for a person in a wheelchair. When reservations were made, a table that was suitable for a wheelchair was asked for. So they put us in the back room. We were forgotten about when they were serving and was often last. If the owners knew you, they catered to you more than the other guests. Problems could have been avoided if attention to detail was made. Also, not having enough help was a problem checking on all guests to see if everything is okay would be good . The food and music were great.

Was ordering from a lady who was training in a new person and I was taken aback by her rudeness. This was my first time there and felt that rather than a kind explanation I received a lecture along with dirty looks. I was told to go to the bourbon bar to get my drinks (I ordered at the wine bar because I didn't know) so I did but when the lady from the bourbon kindly walked my drinks to my table she glared at me. My friends have complaints of their own as well but I won't speak for them . The wine and bourbon were good but we did not feel like making purchases after this unwelcoming experience.

The food here, while outstanding, lends itself to a larger crowd and big eats. The menu here is very small and they don't really have normal appetizers like some starch and dip or small plates. I ordered the carrot and parsnip soup. I was wonderfully surprised at the depth of flavor and presentation. It was a huge hit for me! It was representative of a top notch chef in the kitchen and definitely makes me want to return when I get a bigger appetite. The wine was crisp and tasty! Highly enjoyable, but it wasn't really like a fine wine you get at a steakhouse. Sweet winery wine, which is okay, but I'd rather enjoy the food and scenery, to be honest. Have been here before in the past and always enjoyed myself, it did not disappoint post-Covid. I just wish the menu had come back to its former self.

What can you possibly say about a museum devoted to a canned meat product? It was a lot of fun and very educational. You learn about the various products that are made. Including those made for foreign markets. There are several interactive displays to test your knowledge and your skills about spam. Masks are required if you have not been vaccinated. There are some special sections for kids and plenty of displays for adults so it is a great place to visit for the whole family. The gift shop offers a variety of merchandise and also has spamples at various times. It gives you a chance to sample some of the different varieties of spam. At the time of my visit the museum did not open until 10:00 a.m.

Super neat tourist attraction. It was cool to see the different types of spam and how it’s eaten throughout the world. The facility is not exactly dog friendly unless you can carry the dog through the museum. Unfortunately you can’t buy any of the spam that is not readily available in the US stores. I feel like they’re really missing out on a good opportunity for sales if they offered new varieties! The kids really enjoyed the play area.

Very interesting and cool museum. All the interesting history is laid out in an interactive experience. The Spam cans riding around the track up in the ceiling are neat to see. The gift shop has lots of cool stuff. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. All in all a cool place to visit.

The fact that my kids said it was worth the 2 hour drive made it worth the drive! Just learning about SPAM throughout history was interesting. Got some recipes and some fun photos. Everything is very hands on and clean! Gor some fun souvenirs too+

Love this place. Was actually the best museum we’ve been to across America. Especially being free was a huge bonus. The kids and wife loved it. THEY ARE DOG FRIENDLY which was really cool. The history and the interactive games for the kids were so cool. I would liked to have tried some of the rare SPAM that we got to see but they only have basic flavors in the gift shop. Come on guys you guys have to sell the cool products that we can’t just buy at any grocery store. Would recommend going if you’ve been thinking about it.

It's not a huge museum but it was really cute and fun. We learned a few things and the gift store is well worth checking out. If you're into the fun and odd ball type things, this is a fun stop.

Well worth the time to tour the Spam museum. We have a totally new respect for Spam and the Hormel family. It is free to enter and there is so much to learn. Even children will enjoy it.

Who knew there was so much history behind the Hormel brand?! This was such a cool experience and fun knowledge that was gained. The facility is well maintained. There are hands on activities. Children and adults can definitely find an afternoon of fun at the museum. The offer SPAM samples while you are visiting. You can purchase souvenirs and SPAM in the gift shop. There is no cost to visit, so even if you have a tight budget you can still find an afternoon of enjoyment with your family here!

So much fun! The kids loved the museum! Plenty of fun facts and things to do! They even come around with SPAM samples!! They have lots of fun historical facts and a fun play place for kids. The store inside has some really cute spam souvenirs!
Bonus the museum is very inclusive from motion sensor doors to noise canceling headphones and cute quiet areas!

Although its size is small, this museum is really worth a visit. I especially enjoyed the touring which covers the history of the company Hormel as well as of its owners Geo and Jay Hormel. It is quite inspiring to learn how the owners kept improving their products, and how SPAM became a supply to the US's allies during the war, and still a popular food for many different countries after the war. (The touring girl has done a great job!)
There is also a play area for kids, and our kiddle liked it a lot. Will definitely come back when there is a chance!

What's not to love about a museum that celebrates one of the world's most popular processed meat products? This is a funky fun place to spend an hour or two. Interesting and funny, it educates and entertains! Plus, friendly staffers walking around with trays of samples!

Such a amazing museum. It is small but in the most perfect way, any larger and it would have been toomuch. It had interactive attractions and was well thought out. Our family had a lovely time and can't wait to go back!

Enjoyed watching displays of SPAM and its history. Smaller than expected but still worth visiting. The gift shop had lots of small and interesting souvenirs. The SPAM minitrain on the ceiling was quite brilliant. You get offered SPAM samples and can buy hard-to-find varieties from the shop. The volunteers were very kind and nice.

2023:
Lots of fun and history. Knowing that I grew up on spam and loved spam my niece surprised me with a surprise trip to the museum. Even though my wife and niece are not fans of spam, they were surprised to have such a great time visiting a museum. They even sent pictures to others. Most did not realize there was such a museum and others claimed they were envious that we were able to visit the museum.

You know you want it. You know you need it. It's the fleshy salty pink flavors of SPAM in all its proud glory. All your friends, family, and occasional visitors to Minnesota MUST make the important pilgrimage to the Mecca of Pork Products... THE AUSTIN SPAM MUSEUM.

Great museum, really fun and interactive, not huge but it's free so no complaints! Really enjoyed having spam packing races with friends. The gift shop was great with some really fun things to buy, definitely recommend going if your in the area

This museum is so quirky and fun! I was impressed that some of their displays have changed since we visited 5 years ago. Definitely worth a visit if you are in town or a detour if you are heading up to the twin cities.
The museum is a lot of fun for adults and kids. They have a little farm house and play area with a slide. The kids loved the area where you can 'make' your own SPAM and had fun seeing who could so it the fastest. My oldest was able to do the full case in under 2 minutes. It was a really cute addition to the museum.
I love their gift shop! They do a military discount and even have shirts on sale to support the people after the Maui wildfire.
Prickles Hoggington — Google review
For starters, it's free! The kids played forever in the play area! They have an interactive museum portion, you could can 'spam', and play in the play area.
It has a variety actives the kids enjoyed too: a reading and nursing nook, a kitchen/picnic area, and the climbing section that looks like a barn.
It's a good place to take the kids to play. Definitely recommend!
Opened in 2009, this family-friendly zoo features reptiles & amphibians from around the world.
I brought my 8 month old daughter there for the first time and she had a blast. The people working there are super nice, they went in back and grabbed a baby alligator for her to look at up close, then they asked If we wanted to watch them feed the tortoises. The little things like that, that they don't necessarily have to do, really makes an impression nowadays. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody that has kids, or just likes reptiles.
Kravin Morehead — Google review
Fantastic place for hands on experience! Very knowledgeable staff. Happy to answer any questions. They had a few feedings while we were there. Snakes, Crocks, turtles, alligators, and birds. Cool place easily spend 2 hrs here. The staff has a q&a session. With an option to hold the specimen on display for a fee. Or pet for free. It seems the animals are well socialized and as friendly a wild animal can be. Not to busy can wonder around with feeling to rushed or crowded.
John Richard — Google review
Our kids had a great time! I loved that we could go through at our own pace. The kids spent as much time as they wanted at each exhibit. They were also able to watch multiple snakes get fed. The workers were very knowledgeable and explained about the snakes as they were feeding. For extra money they were also able to have photos taken holding a small alligator or a snake. We chose the alligator and they are still talking about how cool it was! They also had a few step stools scattered around that were perfect for the toddlers to carry around and use to stand on to see the exhibits at a better height. Overall it was a great experience!

Unequivocally the absolute best reptile and amphibian zoo anywhere ! ! !
My wife and I love going to zoos and we have been at many over several states. We have seen other amphibian and reptile displays but this is far and above better anything we have seen thus far.
There more in number and variety here than anyone else. They have several species I have never seen before -- along with a few beautiful birds.
The owner also brought out an alligator and a python for us to pet. I can't say I've ever petted an alligator before!
So if you want to see reptiles and amphibians you absolutely, positively, must see this!

My grandson has been there before, my first time. It was amazing, all the animals, the employees-extremely knowledgeable and friendly. So many reptiles and amphibians to see and learn about. Sitting with my grandson and daughter, holding Harley- a 6 yr. old Cayman was pretty cool, to say the least. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST VISIT, for quality family time and fun education for the kids. Definitely going again! Google RAD ZOO..

We have not been to the facility itself yet. But we booked them for a birthday party and it was absolutely amazing. The kids loved it! Our guide was soooo very friendly, kind, calm and patient with the children. He took time to answer questions we had and we learned quite a bit of things too. All the kids got to touch at least some of the animals. But my son was able to hold more of them. Being the birthday boy. He was over joyed! Big reptile friend!!! I'm so very happy and glad we found them. I was worried they weren't coming because I hadn't heard anything, but turns out traffic was really bad(construction season) but everything worked out wonderfully! All my friends are looking into it for their future things too. We will make a trip to the zoo itself sometime too!!! Very happy. Recommended highly.
Oh and everyone got to hold the big snake at the end. The kids faces just lit up with that!!

We live about 45 minutes away and we love going to this zoo we don't mind the drive the people and staff are so nice there and you can get so close to the animals it's a very unique experience. I think we will end up doing one of her birthday parties down there also at some point we had seen a party going on and it looked very fun. All of our kids look forward to different features and animals at the zoo.

The RAD zoo exceeded our expectations. The animals appeared well cared for even with minimal staffing. My husband and I toured the zoo for over 2 hours with the only rush being our children which finished the zoo in about an hour. We will definitely be back to visit the next time we are in the area.

We made the drive from the cities and arrived 30 minutes before closing. There was a lot to see, and my 2 young kids loved petting the baby alligator. My husband says 30 minutes was perfect (it helped that we were the only ones there), I think 45 minutes would've been better.
Sprawling oak savanna & prairie area with a glacial esker offers wetland birding, camping & hiking.
Myre-Big Island State park is awesome!all the deer that come up to the camp sites is amazing! I love seeing all the nature! I would recommend this place to anyone that loves nature! The host at Myre-Big Island White Fox campground let's people burn canvas from chairs, let's people cut branches from trees so their rv will fit, make fun of people and the older camper and vehicle they have, will only talk to people who have newer campers and vehicles! I think Myre-Big Island State Park can find someone friendlier to be the host for the park!

I had a wonderful time at this park! I stayed in backpack site 3. There is a mix of lakeshore, forest and prairie here. When I visited there were no garbage receptacles at the picnic area and the restrooms were closed (I think likely because it's after labor day) but the vault toilets were fine, and I did find dumpsters at the main campground. If you're doing the hiking club trail, it's a longer one compared to most of the other parks so be prepared for that. I did a few sections of it and never did find the password (it must be in one of the parts I didn't get to). The trails are mostly flat and wide. There are portions that overlap with a bike trail. The signs are adequate to get around without having to have a map in hand or on your phone.
The backpacking sites are a ways from the campground but not too far. 1 and 2 are closer, but spaced out from each other, and 3, 4 and 5 are on the outer edge of the park right off the lake (I believe you can also paddle in, at least there was a portage sign in site 3). Make sure to get water before proceeding to the backpacking sites. The only downside to my site was that I could hear highway noise. I think 1+2 are farther away from the road.
The bird watching in the fall is incredible. I saw or heard over 30 species of birds, including 2 kinds of owls at night. If you visit the backpack sites you'll be treated to hundreds of pelicans, ducks, geese, herons, and other waterfowl.

We went to Myre-Big Island State Park for the first time in 20 years and I forgot how amazing it was. The park is much larger than I remember with several walking, hiking, and biking trails. In the winter there is groomed snomobiling trails which is beautiful. There is tenting and camper spots in a few different areas of the park. There was some newer bathrooms built with outdoor sinks for washing. We saw a ton of wild life as we walked the trails. We loved it and would go again.

This is a nice well-kept campground. That is a mix of primitive and electric only sites.. sites are spacious with most having trees between each of the campsites for privacy. And her in number of water stations in each camping loop where you can fill up your RV as well as an RV dump station that has a separate spigot for water fill also. There are a couple of primitive vault toilets as well as a restroom and shower facility in between both loops. The reservation was $24 a night but when you get to the office to check in you also have to purchase a $7 per day vehicle permit so that you can drive your personal vehicle and the park. So with I told vehicle and the additional vehicle it was an extra $14 per night. Oh no it's a really nice campground I'll be a little pricey for primitive camping. We're averaging 10 to 12 Mbps on T-Mobile and probably about the same for Verizon. #rvdump

Spent one night at Myre-Big Island State Park. The staff was very helpful and even on a Friday night we had no trouble finding a camp site. Like most other state parks, they don't want you to bring any outside firewood in, but you can purchase a bundle for $6.00. would definitely stay here again if I am ever around that area.

We got to the campground late at night and it was really cool! The water was all shut off and the dump station was inaccessible. The lake was completely frozen so that was fun as well. The sites were spacious and easy to access. The restrooms were locked since the water was shut off, but there was a vault toilet that was accessible.

We really enjoyed our stay in the one camper cabin at this site, there were flush toilets very close by with running water sinks and showers too. The camp sites were closer to each other than other parks in MN so that was the only draw back for us since we like to feel more secluded. The were beautiful trails to walk and the land is all around since it is an island. Beautiful wildflowers and wildlife to watch.
Hotel-adjacent gaming plus upscale dining, fast food, live music & comedy shows.
We come down from Minneapolis Minnesota. Their machines are incredibly loose compared to the casinos in the metro area. Which also could include treasure island. Even though T.I. is not in the metropolitan area. And LIVE CRAPS AND ROULETTE. Can't beat that.

You can smoke in the casino 👍🏾 the kitchen somehow can’t seem to get it together. I’ve gotten at least a handful of meals there. My latest visit I got prime rib rare… it was medium. My soup was half n a quarter cupful like every time I’ve gotten it but this time I turned back n asked questions n the lady told me that she will let her boss know n didn’t offer to fill it or anything… I give up on ever ordering there again. Time before We got steaks medium rare n what we received was one side burned n other side rare so we brought it back n they gave us different steaks same result. My salads were never good… cucumber were always bad. Staffs are always nice n friendly but always forget my plastic ware n things I’ve asked for. I will still go there but I’ll probably get subway or bring my own food when I go. The slots are really tight otherwise I do like the place.

The casino maintains an exceptionally clean and welcoming environment, which is complemented by the staff's outstanding helpfulness and friendliness, making every visit truly enjoyable. Their sports betting section is particularly impressive for its user-friendliness and accessibility. The betting kiosks are straightforward to use, ensuring a seamless betting experience for both novices and experienced bettors alike. Moreover, the presence of knowledgeable staff ready to assist with any inquiries enhances the overall experience. Whether choosing to place bets at the kiosks or at the counter, the efficiency and friendliness of the personnel in the sports betting area are commendable. This level of customer service and the casino's overall ambiance make it a great, convenient destination for both gaming and sports betting enthusiasts.

My mother had never been to Iowa or a casino...so we drove down from the twin cities. We played some roulette...slots and sports book. Pretty much lost at everything but slots but we had a blast! Everyone was very helpful since we were novices and we will be back for a sports book night. We also ate lunch here not bad food and drink options. There is also a hotel right there if you wanted to go down for a weekend or event. Check it out for sure...its only an 1 hour and half drive from the cities.

It's pretty outside didn't pay out no free sign up bonus for new players was a buzz kill too. If I'm from out of town what's my cash back from my spend doing for me if it was my first and only time out there and the chances of it ever happening again are slim due to distance. Anyway it sure is a pretty site. At night their sign glitters. Weird lookin barn vibes outside too but it was cool. Wish I got better and more photos. Don't think I'll get to use my cash back at all anywhere because unless they have that available to me online, that may be the only Boyd casino anywhere near me. And they did say I can use my card at all of he Boyd casinos all over the u.s.

I usually have a good experience here, but not so much this time. I stayed one night on Saturday, March 22nd and had an unauthorized charge of $50 on my credit card. I have been attempting to contact the manager for almost two weeks and have not heard back. I’ve left three voicemails and now, when I call, the front desk just rings continuously and eventually drops my call. I guess I’ll have to file a chargeback on my card because there was no damage to the room or anything of the sort.

My family and I all planned a weekend get away at Diamond Joe's and needless to say- we will never go back. It was an all around bad experience! It started when they said we booked double the amount of rooms than we actually did and it was too late to cancel. The desk employee said they couldn't do anything. And in fact, they were quite RUDE about it. Then at dinner, while our waitress was nice, dinner was very slow from start to finish. The food took forever. And we must have waited 30 minutes just to pay. They claimed it was a "computer" issue. Later in the evening, there was last call for drinks- we purchased drinks at 1:15am, at 1:30am they wanted to take the drinks we had just paid for. We still had half full drinks and politely asked what time we had to drink them by- knowing in Iowa it is 2am. The "pit boss" - I think his name was RUDY (how fitting) very rudely said he was taking our drinks. We understand that there are rules, and we are happy to comply. However, we do expect to be treated with kindness and respect. It felt very much like this casino and it's employees don't care about their customers!!!
A little remote but not hard to find. Thanks to the property owner, the public can visit a significant piece of American history in person. Tread lightly, listen closely and you can feel music in the air during the short walk to the memorial. It is also possible to visit the Surf Ballroom in nearby Clear Lake to visit the museum and stage where the last performance happened.

Make sure you have your GPS set to the site as there are no signs or any mention of the place until you are at it. There is about a half mile of driving on gravel road, so be wary of if your car can handle that. It’s also about a quarter mile walk on uneven dirt and grass to get to the site. It is very surreal and I recommend taking the 15 minutes to check it out. Many people have brought items to leave there, if I knew that I would have brought something too!

Definitely cool to see this place. Even though it isn't much, it draws plenty of people to see it due to the worn path back to the site. Expect about a mile of stone road, and about a 10 minute walk to the exact location. People just park alongside the road, which seemed alright because there were several cars when I arrived.

Very cool piece of history!
Park at the Don McLean parking area and walk approximately 1/4 mile to the crash site.
The area was well maintained when we were there so we dropped a donation into the box where we parked. (If you appreciate the effort in keeping this treasure accessable, just drop a small donation for the ongoing effort by the locals to keep it so). 👍
If this is on your bucket list, make it happen soon as ya never know when it may be gone.

The site is about a half mile walk from the parking area. At the end is a couple of markers of the 4 casualties. The sunglasses sculpture marks the beginning of the trail and in my opinion is more interesting than the markers at the end.

It's well maintained with the path mowed. There is no information about the crash, but there are memorial markers with the singers and pilot's names. It is a little under half a mile walking to the site and then back (just under a mile total). People bring glasses to leave on the large glasses memorial that marks the entrance to the path to the crash site. It seems like more could be done as a memorial site.

What a historic piece of music history. The Surf ballroom has been around for so long and has hosted some of the biggest musical performers of all time. They have a museum of their long and storied history on site. I drove all of the way here from Minnesota to see a concert performance, and it was definitely worth the drive. I seen the country band Midland and the performance was terrific. The sound quality in the concert hall was phenomenal. The setup of the stage and the entire concert hall was fantastic, there was no bad place to watch the performance.

Amazing experience. In my excitement I did not notice the self walking tour pamphlet so I did miss a few things but I seen a thousand things. More history than I ever expected. Its like walking back in time, this place should be protected at all cost. I went in for buddy holly, Ritchie and the big bopper but I was awed at so much more. The history is all over the walls. When I go back i will make sure to catch what I missed like the phone booth and green room. I loved the little gift show and was able to get all the gifts I needed for my list.. like the buddy holly glasses for my granddaughter (buy a extra pair to leave at the memorial site) and coffee cup for my grandson.

I traveled to Clear Lake to visit the Surf Ballroom and I am glad I did. I didn't know what to expect but when I arrived I was overwhelmed with history. The ballroom is preserved just as it was when Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens played their last show here. From the original wood floors to the thousands of signatures on the walls of the green room, the Surf Ballroom is history every where you look. The wall are covered with autographed photos and artifacts from those that have played here. You can see B. B. Kings Guitar and Charlie Daniel's Fiddle. Plus this place is still making history as it is still a very active music venue. Admission is free but a $5.00 donation is suggested. I spent about 2-hours here and loved every minute.

Built in the '30's, was the last show by Buddy Holly and Richie Valenz before their plane crash just after takeoff. Look at all the stars signatures of those that ever graced the stage. Such cool booths around the perimeter of the ballroom dance floor

Great venue and great concert with Hairball. We were nice and close to the stage, and nobody got rowdy. They could improve their ticket taking efficiency to get people in the door faster.

I was in the area for work and stopped in to take a look. Very cool if you're a music buff. They have a ton of memorabilia, and the amount of autographs is quite remarkable. The phone booth is very cool too. The dressing room in the back has signatures all over the walls from all the artists who have performed there, super cool. I would love to come back for a concert and learn more about the history here. They also have maps that take you out to the wreck site where the plane crashed on the day that music died.

Amazing place in history. Love the care taken to keep the ballroom authentic. Hope to see a concert here someday.

Great historic venue for live music! Went to 2 shows - one band was so loud I wore earplugs. Other was perfect volume and the sound was excellent. They still have paper tickets, so you get a souvenir. Lines to enter can be long, so getting your ticket ahead of time lets you sail right past the line for will call. There is a nice, big coat check and several bars inside.

Very cool place to stop and check out. Lots of history to take in just imagining who all played there. I would recommend taking it in if you never have stopped.

A 'must see' in Clear Lake, beautifully restored & filled with history. RIP Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, JP Richardson "The Big Bopper", and pilot Roger Peterson who lost their lives in the plane crash on February 3rd, 1959 after performing at the Surf. 😢

Encapsulated rock and roll history! Don't miss out on this gem! Free admission and has a small gift shop. Probably need about thirty minutes max to visit. Venue is still used for live performances.
I shopped for my wife to obtain some Winnebago gear. The supervisor at the visitor center Melissa was absolutely amazing to work with. She took the time to email me pictures of the items She had available that my wife might like and processed my order over the phone. My wife and I absolutely love Winnebago because of their amazing customer service and the quality of the product they provide. Hands-down would work with this company again!

Wow, I loved this place. They have documented and have on display older RV's and trailers that were very fun to see. The history of the Winnebago company is there to read about. The lady at the counter (Shari sp?) has a great welcoming personality.

Took the Class B tour at Lake Mills. Paul was a great guide and told us about all the ins and outs of how the Class Bs are made. We got to see production lines for the Revel and Travato. Good way to kill some time while your RV is in the service center.
Frank Fang — Google review
I just bought a 2016 Travato and heard that they do tours. I arrived a day early and was able to tour both facilities. Everyone at Winnebago was amazing. Sherry and Amy in the Visitor's Center were great and Bryce, Mark, and Rande were fantastic tour guides. I also ended up needing the Service Department while I was there and they were incredible too. I met a lot of other Winnebago owners and even they were all pleasant! I highly recommend the tour and going directly to the factory for any service needed.

The people in the visitor center are always super nice. There is a small museum inside which is free, it shows the history of Winnebago as well as their pop culture presence. Free cup of coffee is available in the mornings and if you have a Winnebago they have electric hookups for you to stay 2 nights free, if you are a WIT member you can stay up to 3 nights for free. They also have a nice selection of Winnebago apparel for sale inside.

This was our 2nd factory tour. It was much the same as a year ago. our tour guide last time was more bubbly, but this one allowed more time to watch the assembly lines. We were disappointed that our tour of the B class facility was cancelled due to a software update (there were apparently a lot of issues caused by this - the class A line wasn’t moving either). It’s a
Good tour overall. We would recommend it.

It's a Winnebago museum. 3 displays--vintage motorhome, a small towable and a truck bed cab over. Very nostalgic. Posters, old magazine adds, history and time lines for the progression of Winnebago. Also a movie reel which highlights all the movies and TV shows a Winnebago appeared in. T-shirts, mugs & stickers for sale and other assorted Winnebago gifts.

We have had NOTHING but problems with 2018 Forza 36G. Bought in 2019 new, left over. Dealership we purchased from in NC was absolutely the worst until we got to the top of organization but even they can't help with the inferior product that is Winnebago. Shame as we are stockholders. Customer Service is a JOKE. They have none. Everytime we take it in for warranty service it's gone for MONTHS and MONTHS. It is now time to hire a lawyer and investigate LEMON LAWS. Don't buy a Winnebago

I wish more towns and cities had a Sibley Park! There are walking trails, a pond, farm animals, a calming garden, gazebos, memorials, a great sunset view over the river, and within the same walk you can pet a sheep, take the kids to the playground, and play Punk Rock Softball. It's also the best place in town for playing Pokemon Go.
Jack Barnes — Google review
The park was decorated beautifully with tons and tons of lights. I'm up from Florida and have seen photos of past years when my family members have gone. It's even more incredible in person. I'd definitely go through it again and again. Outstanding job Kiwanis !!! One of the top 3 Christmas 🎄 light displays I've ever seen.

We visited the park for the lights this weekend. We were all amazed! The lights were gorgeous! So many lights! A great place to bring the kids. We chose to walk as the drive through line was ridiculously long. The only downside was the lack of concessions. 1 concession building that was so packed we skipped it. A must visit if you love Christmas lights!!

This is an amazing little gem of a park that is concealed within city limits and likely unknown by many of the locals even Im sure. Come here for your fix for wildlife, your hiking trails, your kids to burn off steam, or maybe to get hitched to the gal or guy in your life! Its been here since 1887 and the views are splendid. So if you visit Mankto make a day of Sibley Park. You will thank me after you come here and Im willing to bet that you too will want to come back again to explore even more....

Holds the Kiwanis Lights every Christmas. Definitely worth stopping to walk through or at the least drive through. Has a great play area for the kids, animals for the kids to see, and close to the river. Has bathrooms available with flush toilets. Lots of room for events or to play a soccer game. Check it out anytime of the year!

Nice playground, barn type animals to feed, pavilions, walking path. Well cared for. No food or drink around the animals, hand washing areas. Also exercise equipment. No pets allowed.
Bj Miller — Google review
Never been there during daytime. But Kiwanis light show is amazing and that made us feel the park should be pretty awesome too with all the tall trees throughout!
Loved the little barn they had and the animals we can see in there. We saw reindeer! We loved parking the car in the middle of the park and enjoying the trees and lights for a while having some food.
Great for families, friends or even for dates. The Kiwanis Christmas lights are free so that makes it all the more value to drive all the way there and to enjoy!

This park is really nice. Have lots of good memories from when my daughter was younger. We'd walk around looking at the animals. Feed the animals. Then we'd play in the playground. It's awesome that they have the Christmas 🎄 decorations and the whole park is lit up with Christmas lights.
I definitely recommend Sibley Park !!!

The Kiwanis lights at Sibley Park never disappoint! It's fun to go in the middle of the week with no wait time, you can drive through multiple times, it's just so magical! Well worth it to get out of the car to take a picture with the big tree in the middle, then you can also grab some mini donuts and hot chocolate for the rest of the drive around the park.
Minneopa State Park boasts an array of recreational activities for visitors to enjoy, including hiking trails with panoramic views, a stunning waterfall, picnic areas and campsites. The hike to the falls is not for the faint-hearted and may prove challenging due to high water levels covering the path. Visitors are warned that 70 steps lead down to the base of the waterfall and 70 back up again, with a total distance of 0.15 miles from top to bottom.
Very impressive state park with a lot of the expected, but by golly, some unexpected as well. The first part of the park I visited was the south side where Minneopa Falls is located. Unfortunately, this time of year the falls show nothing but a trickle. The sight is certainly beautiful and worth it around all the scenery. Very well kept park with picnic areas and the bike trail that follows State 90/Hawthorn Road. There are steps involved to get to the bottom of the falls if you wish and another set of steps to a nice scenic overlook. The second part of the park had something I didn't know was available in Minnesota. There is acreage here that you can drive to watch the bison. A couple of miles in and, sure as heck, there they were herding down the road. The land here is very beautiful as well. Campsites are also located here and well placed in the woods, not just a wide open space for all the campers but more individualized. Trails seem plentiful, though I didn't walk any in this part of the park as of yet. This be a great time of year for the color change so if y'all got a hankerin' for the outdoors, come on our and support your state parks!

Another beautiful Minnesota State Park! Great spot for a day trip! It was very busy but it was also a great fall day when we went. The waterfalls were beautiful! We walked the road over to the other section of the park where the bison are kept. There is a nice walking trail around the bison enclosure. We ended up walking almost 8 miles. Dog friendly trails. Worth checking out!

Great place for a short walk. Lots of history here. Excellent for a family car trip.
Also connect's to local bicycle trails.

Such a quaint and beautiful place for a quick walk.
The weather was pleasant despite it being early spring. Was expecting cold winds but thankfully the day was pleasant which heightened the experience.
The walk down the falls was easy making it fun for kids as well as the elderly. A must visit place if you're looking for something close to the twin cities with less crowds.

Great example of an amazing park for a smaller space. Great day use area with very unique scenery. The river valley is beautiful with uncommon rock formation for this part of MN. Nice paved trails and some decent hiking/biking for a smaller area. Campground is well treed and fairly spread out. Plus they have a bison enclosure. The area around the park is very scenic, Great park especially for spring and fall colors.
Wyatt W. Penke — Google review
The campsites were some of the most spacious we've experienced, and private. The buffalo were a neat experience, and the waterfall was gorgeous. The kids enjoyed swimming and playing in the water at the base of the waterfall, which is a bit of a trek down to with littles. The state hike was gorgeous, and not very long, which was nice for the kids. A stroller is probably doable on the trail. This state park has a lot to see and do!
Heather Anderson — Google review
Beautiful views, great bison viewing and waterfall. Busy with a lot of people, and there’s not many trails. Most of the people are around the waterfalls but there’s still a decent amount of traffic in the bison viewing area. There is a scenic overlook to the intact prairie a short drive up from the bison area with a historic mill on it. There are native prairie plants throughout the park, which is good to look for monarchs.
Jace Hulne — Google review
Tremendous waterfall and fun hike. Lovely walk with freshly misted sprinkles from the falls. Hike isn't the easiest and more challenging for some; if water levels too high path may be covered to get to falls base. By the stairs leading down to the falls base is a sign that says the trek is 70 steps down and 70 steps up. It is 0.15mi from top of the stairs to base of waterfall. Enjoy the trip!

This was a great park even if only for a day! Sadly we haven't stayed here yet for camping, but we did go to the falls and took a hike. All and all we spent roughly, 5 hours here along with a 3hr (round trip) drive from the Minneapolis.
They don't have a ton of trails as it's a smaller state park in comparison, but we did ~7 miles of hiking while we're were there, so depending on your perspective, this could be a little or a lot. We walked 5 miles around the Buffalo enclosure which was a pretty flat east walk with lots of places to rest. The kiddos enjoyed the hike and while we had lots of water it was warmer (87°F), so they were a little warm by the end. My kids are 6-8 and we go on longer walks frequently so this maybe some context to consider with your own.
They have a Buffalo drive through and while the kids were really excited about that, it was what we spent the least time while we're were there on. We spent about 10 minutes and once we saw the Buffalo for a while they were less interested. We did however spend a good amount of time near the waterfalls and along the river playing in the water. As a parent fyi, lots of good picture opportunities with the kids here and they really wanted to camp here sometime.
There were also a couple other places near by in St Peter to go hiking as well including 7mile park.
All and all, I have a solid recommendation for Minneopa as a day trip place for kids and hikers alike. I'll add more when we camp.

What a great park! We camped, and everything is within a short walking distance. We went to see the bison twice while on our trip. If you have a park pass, you can go in as much as you would like. There is an old mill to check out, and I recommend doing so. The view is amazing.

This is a really beautiful spot, really nice native plant diversity avg wildlife. I went there on some really hot days and still had a good time. The waterfall was nice in spite of the drought. Saw some Sunchoke which was really pretty
Coty Fields — Google review
Went to see the bison first, and that was lucky because that part closes earlier than the rest of the park. It was cool to see them for a few minutes anyway. We went to the waterfall side next. The falls and creek were pretty low and mostly frozen, with just a trickle behind the ice. The trail rails could use some maintenance

We stayed here in group camp 4. I recommend group site 1 (closest to vault toilets) and also 4, but it's the furthest away from the parking lot. They provide 2 wheeled carts. The firewood was $8/bundle and was claimed to be kiln dried, but some pieces were wet. The water fall was down to a trickle. Some trails by there were closed. We walked around the bision enclosure (took us about 2 hours), but driving through the area allowed you to get much closer to the Bison.

This park was nice. We stayed camping and the site we had was spacious and seclude it seemed. Going in to see the bison was cool and the double waterfall is a must see. But it was also packed with people. If you are camping wait it out and then you can get it basically to yourself.
Lindsay S — Google review
It's a smaller park, but worth the visit if you're in the area. It has picnic tables, a covered spot to reserve for get togethers. It's beautiful, but not at its full potential when I was here due to the falls being at a trickle due to lack of rain. The hiking trails and the falls would be that much better if it was going at more than a trickle.
Cute place to stop and eat and let the kiddo run around after a long day of driving. Conveniently off the highway and next to fast food stops!

I was told the true story of the County, the company and the timeline account for the exact memories that were described including critical think and hard fought treaties concerning the way in which was to be agreed to establishing as the story to be told and even performing specific details with insistent instructions so as to allow for an almost first person view of the giant standing directly up above you and the town of Blue Earth and for miles yet further of cultivated farm land. The richness of the dark nutrient holding soil and the fruit it had yielded. .. "Ho Ho Ho.... Green Giant sultry and sweet as he bent down on one knee to propose to the joy of his life and existence up untill that very moment. He was right! He loved us more!

The park has been improved and it's a nice quick stop that is fun. There is a nice new welcome center. There is some cool musical playground equipment that our kids loved. You can climb up some steps to stand under the giant. It looks nice and is kept up. 5 stars may be a bit high, but it exceeded my expectations and was a fun stop for 20 minutes. We were surprised to enjoy it as much as we did.

OK, so a bit unusual, but the park has much more to offer than a Jolly Green Giant and his little buddy. The instruments built into the pad are great! What a genius idea. And the bike repair station with every kind of allen wrench and tire pump. Brilliant! Stop and see and grab an ice cream next door at DQ.

I thought it was fun! Great place to get out and stretch and see a giant statue! I'm a fan of oddities/art so i enjoyed wandering around. I stopped in the visitor center - used the bathroom, looked through the gift shop, talked to the employees.
Very interesting information along the trail. The petroglyphs are fun to find. There was a hands-on demonstration that the kids really enjoyed. It's a lovely site and nice way to spend an afternoon.

This is such a peaceful place. The walks are very relaxing and provide a chance to see the past. It takes practice to see the drawings. I was not aware that they are easier to see at dusk. So when you plan your trip be aware that rain and other elements make it easier to see. Some of the designs are obvious while others make for a fun game to find them. The sky is amazing.

The museum itself is small and gives a short review of the site, its inhabitants and the geology. The petroglyphs themselves are not easy to see, so plan on spending some time. It's also worth coming early or late in the day when the angle of the sun can help the symbols stand out more.

What an incredible experience! My husband and I went, and it was so much fun to see this awesome historical site. Our guide Mary was extremely friendly and helpful, as well as the rest of the staff.
Tips for your visit:
-Bring a bottle of water. It is not a hard walk, but pull definitely want to bring water, since you’ll be standing in the sun in the middle of rocks!
-The best time to go is near to closing, after 5pm would be ideal, but the site closes at that time. Even though the petroglyphs can be difficult to see at midday, the guides are very helpful, and use water and mirrors to show you the petroglyphs.
-Wear good walking shoes. I brought sandals, which was fine, but most of the paths are gravel, and they’re much easier to traverse with tennis shoes.
-Have fun! At the end, you may get a chance to chuck a spear at a buffauxlo (wordplay intended) I did not hit the buffalo, but my husband came pretty darn close! Enjoy your time there!
Rides & games for all ages plus a beach with boat tours, maritime museum, scuba center & more.
I love this park. Call it nostalgia if you'd like, but it's still fun for the whole family. The roller coaster and Tipsy House alone are worth it.
I like that the park is divided into two sides. The main entrance side is definitely geared toward the younger crowd with the exception of the wooden coaster.
Across the train track you'll find the thrill rides. A larger kid roller coaster, the Tilt-a-whirl and fast spinner rides.
The putt-putt course beyond that is top notch. You'd be hard pressed to find a better option in the area.
I love the admission options they offer as well. Arnolds Park is free to enter if you're not riding any rides. They also offer a chaperone pass for caretakers of kids under 42"..I think. Don't quote me on the inches, but ask about it for younger thrill seekers.
If you've never been, I highly recommend it! If you have been, you already know it's a great time.

It's not a big park by a long shot, and most of the rides are only thrilling for smaller kids. The Legend roller coaster is decent but anything really special (except it does pretty much encompass the whole park! And entrance to the coaster is at the entrance to the park - I missed that on the first go.) There is a smaller wild mouse coaster that looks about 100 years old and a high-in-the-sky log flume. Everything else is on a pretty small scale.
The free museums in the welcome center are pretty cool. Old boats and stuff they dredged up from the lake, old amusement park rides, and a small rock & roll museum dedicated to the Roof Garden venue. Each of the three museums suggest a donation of $2 per person (or $5 per family - I think.)
I mainly came to ride the Queen 2, which was a very nice tour of the lake.

A fun place to visit! Free to get in, we get the yearly pass but it seems that the tickets for the rides are about 1ticket=$1 but they do have the option for all day pass! We went on a ride at the end of the night with family out of town. Wanted to get a picture but they had already closed and we get we’re not able to recover the photo, so be aware of that if you want a picture and are the last rider!

We love Arnold’s Park! We love how toddler friendly it is, but also perfect for big kids as well. It is nice that you can enter without paying just to walk around if you want to do that! We love our trip there every summer-we actually went twice this last summer! The monkey bench is also a must stop!
Regan Gordon — Google review
I'm not objective, I'm completely nostalgic about Arnold's Park due to my childhood, but it's been updated since then and the city continues to make many improvements. I won't lie, it's totally bougie, the food and souvenirs (and shops) are horrendously overpriced and it's a huge tourist trap, but if you're on vacation, where isn't? The trick is to avoid holidays and weekends when possible, bring a backpack with some bottled water & snacks if you are looking to save $$. A day pass is like $35 and doesn't include go-karts, but a yearly pass for rides is like $99 ($150 for rides & go-karts), so if you want to go a few times, it's definitely worth the splurge. We are 35 miles away but get our money's worth when we're visiting Grandma & Grandpa or if we make a Taco house run. 😂 My folks actually gift our passes for Christmas every year, it's a great gift idea! (You can also purchase an annual Chaperone pass for $50 if you're just wanting to ride on with your littles, but it is limited to certain rides - see pictures).

Family had a blast at Arnolds Park! Went on almost all the rides with the bumper cars and roller coaster being their top two. They also enjoyed the go-carts and can't wait to go back again.
We just got four wristbands for the park and then paid $8/child (junior carts age 9-13) when we got to the go-carts parts.
We had the family size fries (you get a huge amount), cheese balls, and a fully loaded walking taco. Food was all really good. Bottled water is Dasani and the ones we got felt like they weren't in the fridge for very long.

Small park but it is def quality over quantity. Think of it as a snall fresh market vs a super Walmart. Entry is free and you pay per ride or get various day passes. If you are going to ride all rides at least once the passes are worth it. Combination pass with the go karts is a bit harder to get your money's worth on unless you are making a day of it. The combo pass with unlimited rides and some park bucks for fairway games only makes sense if you want to play the games. Food allowance is a joke, not even enough for a hot dog and a drink. Ride prices are 5-9 park bucks and it is a 1:1 exchange. Highlight is the "Legend" and it is a sweet 30 or so seconds of roller coaster fun once you drop past the point of no return. We were there in the middle of July and during the week crowd was solid but not overwhelming. Note: mini golf course is separate from the park. Museum kid rides/slide is included. Museums are free entry and well air conditioned with nice bathrooms.

Pretty fun place. The tickets were a bit confusing because the prices were a little high for everyone, even though most adults only could do two or so rides. Definitely kid friendly, but my son was just at the height where he almost was too short or too tall to go on many of the rides. Thankfully he got to go on some rides, but then his sister wasn't able to go with because she was too tall. Food and drinks were okay, games were a little pricey for the prize you may or may not win. It can definitely be done in one day.

Always such a fun place. We went on a trip with my 7 other friends in our 20s and had a blast. Our favorite rides were the log ride by far. We did the bumper cars twice and had fun on the race way as well. Good food and fun carnival type games were there as well. Always fun to bring the kids along but parents can fun too!

We did the full ~7 mile hike that combines a few shorter hikes. It was an easier hike that would be accessible to many people. I would definitely recommend this.
Make sure to spend some time in Luverne nearby. It's a fun little town with lots going on. Check out Take 16 brewery!
I would recommend Blue Mounds State Park to everyone!

Had a fantastic time camping here. Large campground, but it was quiet and peaceful the entire time. Spot 60E was great because it was right by both bathrooms, the dump station, water, and dumpster. We went on the north hiking trails the first day and had a blast. Saw many different animals and even an owl!! Next day we did the southern part of the hiking trail. It was very long and there wasn't too much to see except the prarie and the large stone area.

We camped here for the first time with 3 other campers. 8 of us had a great time. Loved the hiking trails, family camping atmosphere and the beautiful park with Buffalo. Cliff line quarry is awesome! Make sure you yell and listen to your echo! Great for families 👪

Stayed for a long weekend. Campground was clean and well maintained. Electric and non-electric sites only. You'll need to use your own water tank or bathhouse. Lots of trails for hiking or biking. Dogs loved the hiking.

Lots of campground options from private small sites to being able to have large groups of people at multiple sites all hanging out together, and that's on top of great hiking trails and some of the best rock climbing in Minnesota. Definitely one of the top Parks in the Midwest.

Good camp ground, water dam, prairie, bison, cactus, prairie, rock outcroppings, quarry, and more. Take the bison herd tour, as we were able to get fairly close to the herd and our guide, Tiffany, took no bull : ). Well worth the ride in the open safari tour truck, and they even provided binoculars for everyone. Could see for miles on top.

Blue Mounds State Park campground is located on tree-lined paved roads tucked in between a prairie and farmers' fields. It's quite peaceful and relaxing, especially with most sites unoccupied during the week.
While the sites don't offer a ton of privacy, they are well-spaced for the most part and some of the loops have foliage behind the sites so you have a bit of a buffer there. The loop we were in (on site 28) has a relatively new bathroom and shower house that is very nice. The other loop has the older-style bathroom and shower house that looked clean but is showing its age.
Even though you probably could rely on your cell phones here due to good and great signals (Verizon and T-Mobile respectively), the campground also offers WiFi that is actually quite good. The transmitter for our loop is on the bathroom building and we have been able to work, including video calls, all week without any issues.
The sites themselves have gravel pads and decent-sized grassy areas to set up screen tents, etc. The park itself offers several things to do, including watching for the protected bison herd out on the prairie, as well as hiking and biking trails that can lead you to a historic quartzite quarry and some great vistas of the area around you. At night, it's nice and dark so you can see a lot of stars -- if you walk a short way down one of the trails from the campground you can even see the Milky Way.
If we are in this area again, Blue Mounds would certainly be a place where we would check for openings.

Great camp ground with awesome facilities. Beautiful prairie and nearby Luverne was a surprisingly vibrant little town! A favorite state park for my family, worth the drive from the cities!

I traveled to Blue Mounds for a weekend in late September and it was a fun place! I car camped (tent spot) at spot #13 and it was so nice. Right next to the river and close to the showers/bathroom. I would recommend using the showers/bathroom near spots 1-40 as its much nicer and newer. Campground also has Wi-Fi! No check-in or check out when I went, just on the honor system I suppose.
The park and prairie were neat to see. Definitely recommend the Bison Truck Tour! Park is also not too far a drive to Sioux Falls.

Trails are easy to follow with a map posted at every intersection. Most trails are level grass or maybe some incline. I did six miles round trip, but there are enough shortcuts to create your own shorter route. Plus I got plenty of pictures of buffalo up close. The park is only six miles from I-90.

This park is the Gem of SW Minnesota . Lots of good hiking, rock formations and scenery. The park has an active bison heard that you can view. The campground is pretty large and has a new modern bathroom. Luvern MN is just fee miles and is a lovely small town.

Blue Mounds is often referred to as the Stonehenge of Minnesota because of an east/west alignment of stones. It is named after the cliffs, which must look blue from afar but are more of a dark red. The rock is a local quartzite used in nearby building construction that yields to pipestone further down. The pipestone was traditionally used by Native Americans to make pipes.
There is a herd of bison that grazes & will stare back at you if you get too close.
This is probably my favorite park in Minnesota just because it is so calm. You could go to the Grand Canyon (not in Minnesota) & experience beauty, but it is very crowded & filled with restaurants & gift shops. Blue Mounds is just a beautiful, peaceful place with a mysterious history of its own.
Pipestone National Monument is a site of great significance to numerous Native American tribes. It features quarries where pipestone, a sacred material for these communities, is mined. The park also boasts a visitor center and two pleasant walking trails that lead visitors to picturesque waterfalls and quartz walls. At the center, local Native Americans demonstrate their craft of pipe carving and turtle carving, as well as the use of seeds and flowers for medicinal teas.
Very enjoyable National Monument with some rock formations and a beautiful waterfall. The main trail is pretty easy for the most part and it is really only the side trails that get slightly more challenging. Lots of information in the visitor center and the park rangers are friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

This place was totally free to hike the trail and also to go inside and watch native carving and a very well put together museum. There’s quite a bit of parking, with restroom and some stuff for sale inside. It’s a circular trail with a couple off shoots that lead to fascinating things like old mines, rocks with old engravings, and even waterfalls! I enjoyed my adventure and will definitely go back with my kids sometime.. great job to the designers, architects, natives, and all the people that have contributed to the stellar setup! Thank you!

Pipestone is a magical and sacred place. The generosity of the indigenous tribes to have their sacred site open to the public is a gift of love. The visitors center is beautifully curated with big opportunities for learning and growth by all generations. The trail through the quarries is an easy walk with very clearly marked signs guiding visitors to take in the beauty. This site is fully accessible to all abilities. My children had a great time, learned so much, and appreciated the opportunity to speak with the pipe makers and artisans.
A note to white skinned visitors: stay on the trails, do not presume to wander into the quarry sites and touch peoples equipment or the stones, and pick up your dog's poop and dispose of it. Would you do any of these activities when visiting a church? Respect and courtesy go a long way. You are visitor on sacred land. Behave that way.

We made the best random stop here. The timing was off as it was a wind advisory but that didn't stop us. We did the circle trail. It was so so so beautiful so much history and beauty.

Very fun and informative. A small hike is available to old stone face and the falls. Don't worry. A majority of the hike is paved. There is a small gift shop at the monument. But, the best part is that there's native art makers there to talk to and show you the wonderful pieces they make.

This was so much more than I anticipated due to the very kind folks explaining and performing their craft of carving and shaping the Pipestone. There were also very informative stations, a great short film and beautiful (paved) trails winding through the area. A great experience that I would recommend to anyone.

Had a great time walking around Pipestone National Monument! It is a nice walk and you get to see some cool structures, a water fall, and lots of prairies. A great place to check put if you are traveling in that area! We decided to go last minute and didn't regret the choice.

Take the guided tour of the quarry area to better understand the pipestone rock / pipe making story, as our guide Park Ranger Natalie rocked it, otherwise you may not understand what you are seeing. Visitor Center had a good mix of displays, artisans, movie, and other items. Favorite was the loop walk through the natural rock outcroppings and waterfall. My daughter had fun earning her Park Ranger Junior badge through all the activities in the booklet you pickup from the desk. Make sure to stop by the three maidens.

Great little stop. 2 nice walking trails (shorter) (maybe 45m or 1mile) to a fun waterfall and quartz walls. The visitors center was also small but very nice … loved the local Native Americans who were there demonstrating or talking about their craft / trade of pipe carving, turtle carving and use of seeds and flowers for teas (medicine man). Was also fun they had a local zoo showing some local animals visiting … appreciate the extra effort by park to create a nice experience and education for guests

My family and I truly loved visiting the Pipestone National Monument. The exhibits in the visitors center were amazing and the staff were so welcoming and nice. A few people even shared their processes of how they make pipestone pipes. We also enjoyed walking the trail and seeing the different plants, trees, rocks and the waterfall. Would love to go again.

This place is incredible! They have so much to look out inside the visitor center. Best part, it is free! They do have a donation box on the inside if you would like to contribute. There are live pipestone working demonstrations. This makes for a great experience. The trail is very beautiful and an easy stroll.

Beautiful and informative. We didn't know what to expect when we pulled up, but this was a great stop on our road trip. A nice visitor's center has great information on the area and live demonstrations of people creating with pipestone. Make sure to go on a good weather day when you can take advantage of the trails! We did the short, paved trail and our kids loved exploring the area. The waterfall is beautiful and the rock formations are very cool.

Unexpectedly a fantastic place to visit. The walking trails were great, and the visitors center had a lot to offer, including a gift shop and demonstrations. It is clear that this is a sacred site, and it was an honor to be able to visit. The hours are not quite what maps says but it gives time to walk the trails before opening.

Fun small visitor center, not flooded with an overwhelming amount of information, just the right amount to absorb. Beautiful little walk around the quarries, with a stream and lots of native plants.
Modern rooms with flat-screen TVs & iPod docks, plus a casino, golf, dining, 2 pools & a spa.
Stayed in the Grand Master Suite. What a room! Felt like a celebrity. The pool and hot tub are AMAZING. Best and most unique in the area. We had the Saturday night prime rib buffet; which was delicious. The customer service was excellent; staff very attentive and helpful. Couldn’t ask for more.

We had a room and the key to the room didn't work. The group had been in the pool so we didn't have IDs with us. The front desk staff came with us to the room to let us in and verify ID which they explained was a safety measure to prevent thefts in rooms which I would agree. All the staff we encountered were very kind and courteous to us. The food at the buffet seemed like it could have been better for the price but it is what it is. Over all, the facilities were lovely and there was a great deal of live music.

Mostly great, limited food options while I stayed, could be staffing related. That said everything I did get was very good. Nice outside pool area, rooms were a challenge at night. No real low light option to find bathroom, either lit frosted glass or complete darkness.

We have stopped here a few times just passing through, the rooms are great, clean and comfy. The front desk service and security guards are helpful and friendly. The food at the dew drop was really yummy but they had weird hours for all the other restaurants! The casino is a smoking casino so if you don’t like that it’s not the place for you. If you like drinking, it’s not the place for you either. The drinks are not comped if you are playing a machine or tables, there is one “server” that walks around about once every couple hours. We had to ask multiple people to watch our machines so that we could go get beer. We never got to golf as when we came it was winter but I would like to come back and try the golf course! All in all it was a good stay but be prepared to get your own beer while the server stands at the bar and gossips.

We were there labor weekend we usually go every weekend to enjoy because of the place and music. But yesterday was very very bad experience for us. This guy with jacket(Nick) tall white guy. Comes up to me and my husband question us to check out Id’s which we respectfully showed even though we have to let the security scan before we come in however we still showed because he said we looked too “young” and he goes about asking my brother in law for id which I don’t understand because he’s way older then us. And he has been coming to this casino for the last 12 years. And goes on and screaming at us saying “this is the law” like we don’t know the law that we need to be the 21 to come into the casino. We were no way near underage. He treated us so bad I don’t know if it was because we are brown. Or what. He needs to be retrained and how to respect everyone equally. I do now appreciate how he treated us we will not be coming back again. DO BETTER!

The place is nice. I like it. The reason for my 1 star rating is because I never win in the casino. Dropped easily 1,000.00 in one night. Been there many times. So I stopped going there.

I went here for a business trip. Hotel was very nice and clean. It has a refrigerator, a coffee maker, iron and an iron board in the room. There is no microwave. The bathroom is very contemporary. Very nice. The cleaning person doesn't clean the room every day. They only clean when you check out. There is enough towels to last during your stay. The room was on the south side. It was nice and quiet. You won't hear any noise from the casino or the band playing in the casino. Overall a very pleasant stay. I would recommend this place for your next stay in the Sioux Falls area.

This is the second time I visited this casino. Both times I’ve won pretty well there. The people are very nice. The dealers are really helpful. Even the people in the Cash cage are really polite. Slots are great. They’re fun most of them work really good. The only thing I have to say that is kind of a bummer is if you’re there between like 4 AM and 7 AM and you get hungry and you have to stop playing and drive to Sioux Falls or starve. It was kind of a bummer to find out there was nothing open with food inside the entire casino. But I still had a great time.

Grand Falls Spa: The staff were friendly and the amenities provided were nice.
The Falls Golf Course: The course was AMAZING. It was very well maintained and the staff were excellent. The waterfall was designed very well and provided a wonderful view.
Big Drop Cafe: I want to give a huge shout out and THANK YOU to one of the staff. I regret not getting her name. She provided excellent customer service and went ABOVE and BEYOND. Because of her, my mornings started with a delicious, custom coffee. She was so pleasant and sweet!
Grand Falls Hotel:
Staff - The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful.
Public Areas - Most of the public areas were clean and well maintained. The only notable exception was the indoor pool and hot tub - that entire area was worn and dirty.
The Room - The room was VERY disappointing. This was one of the dirtiest hotel rooms I've stayed in... anywhere. ALL of the surfaces were sticky and smeared and/or dusty. The mirrors and windows were completely covered in grime. There were several dead bugs stuck to the inside of the windows. What appeared to be soda, was dripping down part of the walls. There were crumbs on the carpet and garbage crammed into the side of the chair seat. In addition to the uncleanliness of the room, do not expect any bathroom privacy. The room has a partially frosted window to the shower and there is only a window between the shower and the toilet. Basically, you can see from the room straight to the toilet. Our room came with a balcony and while having a balcony is nice, it too was very dirty. The balcony door was challenging to get open and closed. While I debated about asking for a different room, I wasnt confident that any other room would be any cleaner as this wasn't just a case of one night of poor cleaning - it was clearly repeated neglect.

Great rooms. I got mine free. Cuz I gamble a lot. It doesn't work well for disabled folks without a scooter. It's a long walk from check in with bags. To your room. It just isn't cohesive for that. They will push u to your room. And many staff offered. Unfortunately, I'm 380 lbs and I do not want help. I'm disabled. But, of course I'm not disabled by choice. Many wonderful workers. Top of the line. Made the stay a very good 1.

This is what one of my favorite regional casinos. The facilities are amazing on par with Vegas or Reno. The weekend buffet is amazing. They’ve upgraded the RV Park which is located near the driving range and golf course. This is a great place for a group outing or getaway weekend. The Sports book is a nice add-on with plenty of seating to watch games on the big screen. All that being said, an employee told us that you can’t use the putting green or the driving range unless you also have a tee time. So, I’ve downgraded this review back to a 3 star. With free driving range which is what we were told yesterday this was a 5 star.

In my opinion, The rooms are just okay and for the price I would drive eight more miles and go to the Holiday Inn before I'd stay here again. The rooms do not have a microwave and the refrigerator that's in the room is subpar. It would barely keep anything cold. I also was given a gift card for Christmas and could not use it on the gaming floor which it does tell you that online but I'm not sure if the person who bought it for me knew exactly what they were getting. This is the second time I've been to this facility and I would not come back. It's extremely inconvenient for check-in which is at the front of the casino but yet the hotel is at the back of the casino so you have to walk all the way across the casino just to get to your motel room and for people who are elderly or have difficulty walking that could be a problem. Seems to me that the hotel desk should be by the hotel. The people were very nice but you could tell they were definitely understaffed and we were not able to eat there other than breakfast. And for the price it's just okay. So for these reasons, I would never come back or stay at this location again.

Have no idea what happened to this place used to get comped rooms. I live out of state last couple of stays staffing for table games has been very light. Both last 2 stays.I could not get on bj tables and craps tables. And now lost my comp rooms. Buffet is only open a couple days a week. Frustrating when you want to gamble and can’t because of the staffing. Guess I’ll have to gamble at Royal River where I can get on the tables. Disappointing but I guess they don’t want my businesses.

This was one of the best experiences I have ever had at a state park! The employees were super helpful when we tried (and failed) to find the water area to swim in. The rock formations from the river were absolutely astounding and incredibly beautiful. We had so much fun and will definitely be returning again! There were so many hiking trails you could follow that made it still hiking, but also safe enough for just everyone to walk through. There were some tall structures you were able to "rock climb" to the top of and the view was amazing. I have shared multiple pictures of the magnificent landscape!

Just a beautiful park. There is camping, looks like electric hookups only, no water or sewage but attractive sites. There are not long trails but the trails there are pretty with good views of the water and the rock cliffs and Palisades. We have never camped there but would do so. There was a play area for kids and they seemed to be enjoying it.
Phae Drus — Google review
Palisades is open all year round. As you would expect, facilities and camp sites are shut down to pit toilets and a handful of campsites. Water is also shut down. The pads are asphalt and long. No problem getting the longest RV into these sites with room for that tow vehicle. I like the sound of trains; this is a great campgrounds to hear horns and listen to those diesel engines power up. While there (later part of March), we saw deer roaming throughout the park. FULL DISCLOSURE: There are mountain lions in the area; no one has been bothered by them, though. We talked with a couple that lived ½ mile from the campgrounds, and they showed us a picture they took that morning of a paw print. They had placed a dollar bill under the paw print, and the print was as large as the bill. They have walking trails and swimming locations (Rock Creek). They also have shear rock formations where climbers practice technical maneuvers and repelling. They have an exceptionally large day area use location with huge playgrounds and covered picnic areas. They also have a balcony area on one picnic shelter that over looks the creek , swimming hole, and rock climbing area. The town of Garretson is roughly a couple of miles away where you can resupply if necessary. I messed up my reservation (I picked a tent camping location instead of a camper location), and a park employee (John) bent over backward to help us out. He even opened a closed site to accommodate us. WOW, THANK YOU, JOHN!

This park has a smaller quiet campground with some nice trails. Shower house is in excellent condition and kept very clean. Vault toilets are also well maintained. A skylight in the roof would have been appreciated, bring a flashlight when you need to go.
All but 3 sites look great. I got one of the three. Sites 26, 27, 28 should be listed as tent only, or as a road side parking spot. Grassy area was sloped beyond reasonable leveling. Even the pavement was sloped both front to back AND left to right. Our site #28 was the worst. Only level shade was between the camper and tow vehicle. We brought the picnic table up to the camper were some items would roll away from us.
No camp store but easy drive to Devils Gulch, groceries, and Sioux Falls.

I called and reserved a campsite using the online number offered by their website. It was fast and simple. I wanted a cabin but was thrilled with a campsite where I had a nice little fire from the wood I bought at the entrance. 12$ for a good 4 hr fire. Sites were fairly private and it was quiet and serene. They had free hot showers and flush toilets! Everything and everywhere was clean and kept up. I was impressed and for 36$(campsite)+ 8$(car pass). I will go back more often! Famous story of Jesse James and the leap at Devils Gulch… great family place and easy to get to! GORGEOUS trails for hiking with your dog(s)! We, of course, were out here in late fall, so we had the park COMPLETELY to ourselves! It has beautiful rocky trails if you have the ability to climb, and mountain goat dogs, but it also has a mowed grassy path all around the campground if you want an easier trail, and a completely paved, one-way road all around the site that you can also walk if you would want to, since it's a 10 mph speed limit. You basically have no reason to stay in your RV if you camp here! Plus, there's at least one, SUPER GREAT playground for the kiddos! (I have to admit, my "child" is 21, so I wasn't paying much attention, but this one was so awesome it was hard to miss!)

This is a beautiful state park and well worth the $8 admission, regardless if you're staying over night or simply taking a short afternoon stroll on one of the three trails. When I visited it wasn't over crowded, but I also went in the middle of the week on a day that was 100 degrees. And despite these often crowd limiting factors, I still encountered plenty of people. I must admit, the people were not on the trail. They were in the water, at the camp sights, and on the bridge. However, I was never out of earshot of people talking, kids playing, and campsite noise. Nice but not quiet. Pretty but also pretty small. Worth a visit, but I would not go on a weekend or higher traffic time.
The facilities seemed well taken care of.
