We were here during the off season. This is an absolutely beautiful area. The lighthouse itself is very impressive looking. The beach is gorgeous. We really enjoyed the trail system. We hiked for about four hours and did a lot of geocaching. If you enjoy hiking and historical buildings, this is a fantastic place to visit.

Autumn Color travels led us to Old Mission Peninsula, and the end of M-37. Home to Old Mission Lighthouse. Rich historical landmark, with informational markers posted, to share the many stories, that make this place great! A small native garden was recently planted, and serves as a great reminder of the vast nature and beauty around us (planted by Mission Point Lighthouse Friends in 2017). For a small fee, you may visit the Lighthouse Museum, and make the climb to the top of the lighthouse and lookout! So fun for the kids! Picture Perfect location. There is an option to go down to the sandy beach, both steps, AND WC ramp available! You pick! On our trip, this BEAUTIFUL FALL COLOR DAY, we met a lovely couple from Indiana, and their SWEET dog named, “Mister.” Photos too many to count! Here are just a few! LOVE all things about our Great Lakes!!

The drive there is nice... It's a pretty lighthouse, and yet we did not feel like paying to enter. We were hoping for a better beach, but it was shallow and rocky. Checked it off our list, and went swimming closer to downtown TC.

I really enjoyed it. Very small museum and you can go up into the tower for a small fee. Very tight squeeze to get up there, but it's nice. The beach is also very popular and a nice place to hang out. It does get a bit busy though.

A MUST if you are in the Traverse City area. Not only the drive through the heels and beards of the Peninsula is outstanding, but the place itself lens of view of how the first Michigan settlers lived for the kids checking out the 45th parallel marker is an educational highlight
The place can get really busy and there is limited parking so try to beat the crowds at all costs.
Also, we recommend that you drive not on the main highway, but on the roads, on the edge of both sides of the peninsula, the views and locations are without-match.

Remember going here a few years ago and it was honestly a nice place, including a nice little beach, but i don’t think there’s swimming allowed, i’m not sure. The walking trails are nice and the lighthouse is pretty cool along with the old house that comes along with the attraction. There are a few trails and they’re all a decent length

What a beautiful place.
Picturesque light house on a pristine lake.
The light house was a wonderful place with a small log cabin next door. A few wonderful trails as well as a wonderful place to take a walk on the beach.
They also have a good size free parking lot and a handful of bathrooms as well.
What an absolutely gorgeous drive from Traverse City to Mission Point Lighthouse.

We went up in the lighthouse a few years ago and the view was amazing! It was super tight up there and I'm not fond of enclosed spaces, so it was a little traumatic for me. We went down to the beach and people were swimming and rock hunting. I definitely recommend!

The views, the history, the water, the hikes, what an outstanding area! The drive out here takes you through rolling hills of Cherry Trees and wineries! It's worth it just for the drive itself!
There is a beautiful beach to walk down, and you can swim if you would like. The dogs of course had to get into the water. There are benches to just sit and watch the waves! Make sure to take your time and read all the signs and history of this area. You can climb the lighthouse tower when it's open, and there is a small giftshop inside the lighthouse as well. And yes, dogs are also allowed to come and enjoy the outside area here!

Nice area with access to the beach, some walking trails, a log cabin to view and you can visit the inside of the lighthouse. Lighthouse was $5/adult and kids under 6 are free. I found the money going towards a good cause for the upkeep of an interesting landmark on the peninsula.

This was a lovely walk in the park and a history-lover fun day. The day I went was the one day of the year that the log house was open, it was very cool. Randy and Anita were full of facts and knowledge. The lighthouse museum was interesting and learned a lot about this particular one.

It was totally worth it to take the kids up to see. You have to pay to go up, but you can go in the gift shop for free. I paid $24 for one adult and two children under the age of 11 and one toddler (free) to go in. Staff was incredibly caring and enthusiastic about their jobs. You can tell that they all really care about preserving the history of the lighthouse. Lots of neat things to read and artifacts to see. We enjoyed it very much and happened to be there for the log cabin day and got to explore that and learn about that as well. Parking is easy, short walk from the parking lot to the actual lighthouse. Neat view from the top but very cramped and very hot! I do not recommend climbing up to the very top if you have extremely wide hips or a bigger belly or are extremely tall, it was difficult to get up there and cramped inside- only a few people at a time. You definitely need to be able bodied as well, and there is no alternative for someone in a wheelchair or with physical restrictions that prevent them from climbing stairs.

This is my favorite beach spot for the family.
It’s quant with a historic little lighthouse on a hill.
The water at the beach is crystal clear, shallow, and calm.
Love driving up here too. The drive on the peninsula is awe inspiring and lovely.

A beautiful drive up to the lighthouse. It was peaceful and no traffic. Once you get up there, you will have no problem finding parking. It’s $8 for one adult to explore the museum other than that you can explore the gift shop for free. It’s not a big place but you can leisurely explore the area. It can get breezy and cold so wear a jacket/coat/hoodie. Staff was very kind and helpful.

A must visit if you're on the peninsula. We've visited twice now. Most recently the lighthouse was open and we were able to see inside. I noticed initially it looked like the lake level was down a bit from 3 years ago when we were last there. Inside, there was a map showing the water levels from years past and yep, this year its down a bit. Lots of history and a great view of the lake. The water is crystal clear!
Tim Nagle — Google review
This is a beautiful lighthouse! It was closed so we didn't tour inside but really enjoyed the lake. Dogs are allowed on a leash and the water was clear and calm. We were intrigued by all the shells that made a shell bar. Water in this area is shallow and birds were gathering on the rocks far out. A nice place to hang for chill time. Good parking and satellite toilets.

Mission Point Lighthouse
Came here in 2020 to enjoy a nice quiet vacation in Traverse City.
Interesting building and location.
This building is located on the 45th Parallel. FYI, it's the halfway point between the equator and the north pole.

This location is 45th parallel or half way between the North Pole and equator which is awesome!!Absolutely beautiful views! The lighthouse is sooo cool! The beach is sandy and wonderful with a lot of rocks and small shells too! The fall colors in October are absolutely stunning but it was vvveeerrry cold by the water! So definitely be prepared! It is not a hard trail to walk to the beach or lighthouse. There is also a small house to look at which is neat! If you come to this location it is a must see historical spot! The water is so beautifully blue!

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mission Point Lighthouse during our Lake Michigan road trip adventure, and it was an absolute highlight! As passionate photographers, our mission was to capture the beauty of lighthouses along our journey, and Mission Point Lighthouse did not disappoint.
The lighthouse itself is a charming piece of Michigan history, nestled at the north end of a scenic drive through cherry orchards and vineyards. It may no longer guide mariners, but it now guides curious souls like us into the past, offering a glimpse of life from a bygone era.
The staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing our experience with fascinating stories about the lighthouse's history. We even had the chance to climb all the way up to the tower for breathtaking views of the surrounding area. It's a photographer's dream come true!
We also explored the park's unspoiled trails, enjoyed picnicking, and soaked in the stunning sunset views. The beach and hiking trails are perfect for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers alike.
The gift shop is a treasure trove for lighthouse enthusiasts, offering a wide range of exclusive lighthouse-related souvenirs. Don't forget to check out the unique snow globes!
As travelers and photographers, we're active on social media as Stray Compass Life, and we couldn't resist sharing our Mission Point Lighthouse experience with our followers. This place is a must-visit for anyone seeking history, natural beauty, and a touch of lighthouse magic.
We were pleased to support the mission of this lighthouse and gladly paid the admission fee, knowing it helps preserve this historical gem for future generations.
Whether you're a history buff, a photographer, or simply someone looking for a serene spot to unwind, Mission Point Lighthouse should be on your Lake Michigan itinerary. We hope to visit again soon!

Shanty Creek Resort - Summit Village is a relaxed and uncomplicated hotel located within a vast resort that includes a golf course and ski slopes. The resort attracts novice and intermediate skiers, who can enjoy two distinct ski areas with a total of 53 runs, more than 60% of which are suitable for their abilities. Advanced skiers will also find challenging terrain at the resort.
Shanty Creek has always been a staple in my family life. It's a place I go to for family events like Easter, Mother's Day, Thanksgiving and other functions. Friendly staff as well as a quiet setting. None of the high energy crowd you get from other resorts. Here you can actually relax without feeling like you're being rushed. Sitting on a hill, you get a great view of Lake Bellaire as well as view the woods below. The lodge maybe old but it's charming with features you don't see anymore. The grounds are well kept and there is plenty to do all year round.

We have stayed many times and always enjoy it! The area is lovely, the rooms are big & spacious.. our balcony looked out over the ski hill, which was fun to watch! We had a king room with a fireplace, which was lovely in the evening. There was a huge jetted tub in the bathroom. Only thing I’d like to see them get some new beds and full size pillows. The bed was a bit squeaky and those tiny square pillows drive me bonkers! Overall, a great place to stay.
Julie Rowse — Google review
I upgraded to a deluxe room. It was dated and we had an ant problem. The water in the jet bath turned orange after the 1st use. The filter on the furnace was filthy dirty. The filter was replaced and they tried to take care of the ants but there were too many.

Stayed for 4 nights over Christmas New Year break 2022. Even though temps hovered around freezing, they did a good job keeping the slopes in reasonable shape for skiing. Love skiing here because it never feels crowded, wait times for lifts are always pretty short.
Rooms are nice and hotel is well kept. The one thing I'd like is if they could work on venting the gas fireplaces to the outdoors. I'm not a huge fan of carbon monoxide and it's a little silly to have to open the patio door if you want to run on the fireplace.
Mark G — Google review
There is a hotel. The rooms are around $260.00 per night
We are RCI members so we are staying in a condominium in a wooded area. The resort is on Torch Lake. The biggest attraction is three golf courses. There are also some restaurants and shops. It is near other interesting towns the closest being Bellaire, MI.

Love the location. Great place for a weekend getaway. Options to golf, snow tube or ski depending on the season. I had a balcony off the room which was delightful! I came here for a conference. The food wasn’t great for the conference but the rest of it was wonderful

Had a great weekend of lodging and skiing. Whole family enjoyed the experience. I hadn’t been there in years and they have added many more facilities and updates. Schuss mountain was excellent Michigan skiing. Short’s Brewery in Bellaire was a great place for food and beer also

The rooms are always inviting and have beautiful views surrounding you. The Lakeview Hotel's jacuzzi suites are amazing!!! The tub is giant and centered in the room . Most rooms have a balcony. The bathrooms are very roomy and have nice showerheads. They also have in room full size coffee pots and mini refrigerators.

Stayed @ a condo! Olivia was great. We will book again!
Michele Geldersma — Google review
We just stayed in one of the condos through the hotel in Trappers Lodge and it was a DUMP. Highly doubt it’s been throughly cleaned in quite some time.
Beds had no mattress pads or pillow covers and they were filthy. Beds desperately needed to be replaced and both sunk in the middle. Lock on door was very finnicky and did not work well at all.
Furnishings were very dated and run down. Had two TV’s both did not work.
For a three night stay, we paid close to $2k for a one bedroom and one room place and have actually paid less to a two bedroom place that was clean and updated in Breckenridge.
While we loved our time skiing, this place was absolutely disgusting and I would never stay here again.

Love this place!!! View is beautiful!! So many great pics, rooms clean and so comfy. All the staff encountered were kinds. So many amenities in room and on property. Great food on property and nearby.
Nicole Pappas — Google review
Staff is fantastic, very accommodating. The room was very clean and spacious. We had a balcony, which was nice. We were there for a special occasion and it could not have gone better. My brothers room did smell of cigarette smoke but out of eight or so rooms we had, that's not too bad. The pool was not clean. I would not recommend the breakfast buffet. Everything was cold, the pancakes were crunchy, the eggs tasted like styrofoam, biscuits and gravy tasted like flour water, etc. If you want to pay $20 for bacon, go for it, that was good. We had a good time.
Lisa Matheson — Google review
Was there for a conference. Stayed in one of the King rooms at Summit Village. It was like staying at my grandparents house. Everything is extremely dated, down to the push button microwave..like actually old school push-in, push-out buttons and an electric stove with crank adjustable mechanical clock. All the switches are in almond, the jacuzzi tub has been thru years as well, which is also in almond color. Shower door would not shut due to the hinges being worn out. It was like this before at our stay for another conference several years ago. They need to spend money on updates and basic maintenance. Staff was outstanding all the way around the block.

Was here for a conference in fall 2023. Location is amazing and the colors were excellent. Some updates recently but still a very dated resort complex.
Andrew Jameson — Google review
I stayed here for a conference and the water went out while I was staying here and no one was able to take a shower. The building decor was outdated and hallways were claustrophobic.
Very nice stop. Refreshing wine and contemporary style. A bit too much forced socalizing, but we did learn something and they had the best wine we tasted. Had to purchase some to bring home. Worth checking out!
Amberly Marckini — Google review
People kept asking if we had been there in our many stays around Leelanau. Tried it and were happy we did! It's a nicer place. Actually good Michigan wine. Similar spectacular view as Brys Estate. Didn't have the drunken bus tour people. Dog friendly!

We have been to 2Lads a few times over the years and unfortunately our last visit was not met with expectations.
The selection of wines for tasting was very limited (6-7 at best) and how tastings are operated are not conducive for someone looking to try and find a wine they like.
Now you have to buy a flight and it was 3 (2oz) pours for $15. Or you could buy by the half or full glass, but this doesn’t help if you are not sure what you like.
But for the wine enthusiast, you’ll enjoy your visit and the view over the bay is great.
Ace Covey — Google review
We had a fantastic tour with Karl. Highly recommend the wine club as discounts and this amazing tour “behind the scenes” with a flight and huge charcuterie board pairing are included. We learned a lot about this beautiful winery and the close attention to detail they have of their craft.
Justin Scanlon — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous winery and lovely selections of wine. They are so popular that their flight was limited when we visited! Great place to grab a glass (and a charcuterie board) and chill with friends.
Lou S — Google review
Most of the vineyards on Old Mission have changed the way they do wine tastings. They now do wine "flights" and they are way more expensive! I would also highly recommend going on a weekday or getting a reservation for a group of 4 or larger to avoid long waits. They still have a great view and I do like their wine. They are not my most favorite but I would say they are best at making dry white wines, so if you like dry whites, definitely check them out. I even liked their Pinot Gris which is not typically a wine I enjoy.

We visited four wineries on Old Mission Peninsula, and this was easily the best. The wine was fantastic (wish we would have bought more here…we saved some money for the other wineries, but they weren’t near as good). It’s complex and has interest. The staff was so friendly and the view is the best we had. It’s very clean and simple to sip outside (what we did). Also the food is great (again, the best we had on the peninsula). Worth the trip to the top of the peninsula. We’d recommend not stopping other places and just spend the day here.
Cleveland PJ — Google review
Arrived around 3pm on a Saturday. Great location and nice modern architecture. It was super busy probably because of visitors coming for the race in Bayshore. Had to wait in line for about 20 minutes to get a couple of flights. Wine really isn’t my thing but it was good. There were a lot of chairs out on the grass so you could sit and. Not up on the wines prices but these 6 2oz pours were almost $30. If you like wine I’d say this is a winner, but if you don’t, I’d say keep driving. All in all nice experience and super friendly staff. Well done.
Russell Brooks — Google review
My wife and I stopped here for a tasting. Chris was our bartender...he was very friendly and knowledgeable. The building was modern construction and had wonderful bay windows with spectacular views. The misses ended up buying three bottles (I don't drink) so it must have been great.

The wine tasting in the garage area is not ideal. The lawn with the chairs is beautiful. but it would be awesome with some firepits.

As members we enjoyed the complimentary tour and tasting for the very first time. Everything was phenomenal and one of my family members also joined their wine club! 10/10 recommend visiting and signing up as a club member!

Their cab franc is legit (I liked it more than Brys), and their casual outdoor area is awesome with a view of the bay. We spent about $40 for a tasting flight, a separate glass of wine and tip.

Chateau Chantal Winery and Inn is a charming rural establishment that offers comfortable lodgings, some equipped with balconies and jetted tubs. The inn also provides complimentary wine tastings for guests to enjoy. The winery itself boasts of stunning aesthetics, making it a must-visit destination for any traveler in the area. It comes highly recommended and is an ideal spot for friends to gather or couples seeking a romantic getaway.
We have visited here for many years. The staff is incredible - and Bob, the owner, is a kind and accommodating host. Tonight he took the time to personally start a fire for us in the common area fireplace and share history of the vineyard with us. I especially like their late harvest Riesling. A beautiful place to spend time - with sincere and welcoming hosts!

It was my first time there and the Tasting Room Manager, Hailey Green, couldn't have been nicer in greeting me, answering my questions about their wine selections (I was looking for sweeter wines), and directing me towards a few selections which I really liked!!
The ambiance and decor of the place is really inviting, as well, and the views of the countryside are beautiful!!
I will definitely be back again.

Had an unforgettable experience staying in the bed and breakfast at Chateau Chantal this week. The hospitality was as amazing as the views. Highly recommend. We had less-than-great weather and it was still memorable. I imagine it's not feasible for everyone, but they were offering off-season midweek deals that were quite enticing. If you'd rather save a few bucks and avoid staying here at full capacity, it's definitely worth a look.

It is great for tour and good scenary rather than for wine. I was given 3 choices of wines to taste for 12+$ and tasted 7 including my wife's choices. We love Michigan and tasted many other local wines but nothing came to my taste this time, so I can't recommend any either. It can be just my taste.

This is place is a paradise! It’s overwhelmingly beautiful and cute. They have seating areas in the backyard facing west with breathtaking views, indoors bar and little shop, as well as another outdoor area facing east. Spectacular wine selections especially their ice wine which is very expensive and sweet.

I have stayed here a few times, and each time has been delightful. The rooms are always exquisite, the executive apartment we stayed in was pure luxury and serenity, with beautiful views and every amenity you could possibly need or desire. Marie herself was a delight and she greeted each of us in the morning with her hospitality and sat with us and even shared her fantastic recipe for what we were enjoying for our morning breakfast. The bonus was the beautiful grand piano in the lounge that I got to play and enjoy after hours. If you're looking for a place to feel at peace and be surrounded by one of the prettiest peninsulas in Northern Michigan, I highly suggest a stay at the Chateau Chantal.

Beautiful setting up on a hill overlooking the vineyard and the bay in the distance. They offer several different options to enjoy their wine. My wife and I each ordered a flight and relaxed out on their spacious deck to take in the scenery. The wine itself is hot or miss; depends what you like. We both thought the whites we had were better than the reds.

Came here for a tasting only, and I loved the atmosphere! Such great service, and so many different selections from f wine - ranging from bubbly to non bubbly options.

Chateau Chantal is nothing short of incredible. Hailey and Crystal (apologies if I misspelled her name) made my proposal to my now-fiancee absolutely perfect. They were very accommodating and went the extra mile to make the experience memorable. The winery is also beautiful. Would absolutely recommend to all my friends and will definitely be coming back next time we are in TC.

Chateau Chantal was on our advanced list of places to visit as it was mentioned in a number of books and articles that we had read. The location of this winery is the top selling point. Located back off the road you drive through the vineyards to make it back to the winery, inn, and tasting room. The winery is located on top of the hill with views of the bay on both sides. It is one of the best settings ever to sit and enjoy a glass of wine.
So let's talk about the three stars. First off, this place is designed to crank people through their tasting area. When you walk in the door you have to stop and purchase your ticket before you even walk into the tasting room. The tasting is $10 for a three-wine tasting, or you can get a single glass of wine for the same amount. Then you stand in a queue with your ticket in hand to go to a tasting station.
We had a nice young man working at the winery while attending the maritime college in Traverse City. He was helpful and set us up with our three tasters in a cool wine caddy so you can take your wines outside.
I would definitely stick to the roses and whites here. Our favorite was the sparkling rose, and we purchased a bottle for a friend who we would be visiting later on the trip. The reds on the other hand were underwhelming. They were not very deep in their flavors and just were not something that I would choose to drink regularly.
Then the staff starts throwing away box after box of wine bottles into a dumpster directly below where we were sitting. Do you know that sound of crashing glass that just makes you cringe? Do that over and over again and the setting is ruined. I wish we had been able to visit other wineries in the area to have more of a comparison, but this was not exactly what I was hoping for.

My partner and I stopped in late on 6/8/23 and had excellent service provided by Katherine! We were greeted with a very happy and pleasant demeanor despite it being late. Also, we were pleased that she had lots of knowledge of the menu and the property. We ended up purchasing a bottle of sweet red, one of our favorites. Thank you again, Katherine!

Their cherry sparkling wine is the best cherry wine we’ve tried. They also have the most selection of wine. They’re also the busiest wineries, we even saw tour bus coming here just for the tasting.
The downside to me is that since we have a dog, so we were not allowed to go to the patio, we had to sit on the west side under the sun, it just not a really pleasant experience especially if you’re trying to taste some white wines
Ada — Google review
The views from the back deck are stunning -- you can see the water on both sides of the peninsula. The wine, however, is not great. I thought maybe I made a mistake by sampling only reds, however I tried a few whites and they, too, were not good. But hey -- taste is subjective so go grab a flight, pull up a seat on the deck, and try it for yourself! If nothing else you'll at least enjoy the vistas!

We stayed at Chateau Chantal B&B for our 46th anniversary. It was a wonderful choice. Accommodations, service and breakfast were excellent. Lovely views of Traverse Bay and vineyards on expansive patios and terraces. We stayed in the Degas suite. The wine making tour by owner, Bob was informative and you can tell what this business has meant to him and his family. We recommend it and I’m sure we’ll be repeat customers.

PRO TIP: Take your tasting to the front side of the property, it’s so much more secluded with incredible views and quiet ! The winery itself boasts an incredible property. This is the kind of place you can go and spend an entire day /afternoon. The wine is super easy sipping , the tastings come in sets of 3, from a select portion of the menu. Some reserves can be sold at an up charge to the tasting. This is one of the only places that you can find ice wines, which are very sweet. This felt like much more of a commercialized experience, still excellent but by no means a “small” family vineyard! If anything go for the incredible panoramic coastal views!

Did not acknowledge us until 10 minutes of being in the waiting area. Even though workers passed by and saw us. Found out that the 'view side' didn't allow dogs. How can you say dog friendly if the main attraction is not? Went to the other side and left after 15 minutes of no service.

We had written Chateau Chantal off some years ago after having some snooty and poor service. After being served by Bill that has completely turned around. He was friendly and helpful and inviting - the opposite of what we experienced a few years ago.
The wines are varied and very solid with some great dry reds that we enjoyed sipping.
The pricing structure seems to have undergone a change as well and for the better. While still not quite our favorite on the peninsula, we will definitely be back and happy to enjoy a glass or two on the patio.

A charming winery situated atop a bluff, providing picturesque views of the bay from both indoor and outdoor spaces. The establishment offers competitive flight pricing and caters to a diverse clientele by including mixed drinks for those who may not exclusively prefer wine. The wines and vodka on offer exhibit commendable flavors, with a particular recommendation for those inclined towards sweeter varieties. While the wines here may not match the California style, the overall experience and selection make it a worthwhile destination, especially for enthusiasts of sweeter wine profiles.

The absolute highlight of our Traverse City trip. Had the fall 6 course dinner with wine pairings Friday, and returned Saturday because it was just that good. Special mention must be made both for the chef, Jonathan Thomas, and our host, Bill. Jonathan prepared one of the best meals my fiancé and I have eaten in years, and Bill presented the wines, pairings, and history of the chateau with marvelous eccentricity and passion. It is so wonderful seeing people in their element who obviously love what they do. The wines were incredible and priced reasonably, despite being by far the best we tried that weekend among dozens. Cannot recommend highly enough. Only (small) nitpick was that when we returned the next day for a second experience, we found there were no real fresh food options available to go with the wine in the tasting room. They do have a decently stocked grab and go section, however. Overall this was a great experience, and definitely one we will revisit regularly.

I stayed with my sisters and mom for four nights at Chateau Chantal in June of this year, our home base for a wine sojourn across the Old Mission Peninsula. The Inn itself is impeccable in every aspect, situated in the highest and most scenic spot on the peninsula, and with comfortable and well-appointed rooms.
While we had originally booked a (lovely) room with a king bed and pullout couch, we were able to transfer (at a generously discounted cost) to the Schoolhouse Suite, which was a 2-floor masterpiece of a living space with a full kitchen, small veranda, luxe sitting area, a beautiful bathroom, and two bedrooms. I was battling a hip injury and my mother was sidelined by osteoporosis, which made the second "real" bed/room a necessity we hadn't anticipated. We were so grateful for the kindness of everyone we worked with - Ann, Jenny, the rest of the fastidious and kind staff.
Breakfast each morning was wonderful, and so were the stories told by the Vineyard owner himself! The grounds were immaculate, and the joy abounded. I would definitely recommend the Chateau to any looking for serene, accommodating, comfortable lodging in the heart of Michigan wine country.

A group of 12 of us visited Chateau Chantal Winery as our second stop on a sunset wine tour, and it was amazing. Gorgeous views, great service, and delicious wine. We also loved the seasonal option of a wine slushy! Super fun and tasty! Overall a great winery, and definitely worth a stop!

A beautiful winery and vineyard estate at the top of Old Mission Point. The service was impeccable, and I finally found the perfect dry riesling!
Scouting out this area for future pix. James the Naturalist gave me a printout of the Wildflower Bloom times in the area. From that I plan to come back in May and June and possibly July for the Wild Orchids and others. This is a good Bog. Wear Cletes if you have them as the boardwalks are very slippery.

Great stop to hike trails along the Grass River that connects Clam Lake to Lake Bellaire (called Grass Lake in the 50s). Some trails are covered with wood making it easy to hike in the wetland sections. You can hike right up to the river itself and occasionally spot a bald eagle that is in the area. Along the trail there are labels explaining the various plants/trees. There are a couple of buildings, one fairly new that is great for kids and adults a like to study the surrounding environment and Northern Lower Michigan's nature. The trail distances are clearly marked, level, and are easy for all ages.

Great place to hike with young kids! Flat easy walk on the boardwalk and lots of bridges and areas to watch wildlife. The new visitor center had a lot to offer as well, we could have spent an hour in there!
The Village at Grand Traverse Commons is a sprawling shopping and dining spot with an arboretum and hiking trails. It is known for its high-quality products, beautiful setting, and therapeutic philosophy of Dr. James Decker Munson.
I had been waiting over 15 years to make the trip up and the wait was well worth it! Our guide Vanessa was fabulous! She has a strong bond with the campus and love for the grounds that really came out during the walk! She engaged the group with personal stories, and managed to scare a few along the way in good fun! Listening to how the buildings once were and learning about the kind gestures residents gave helped pull us into that moment in time. The only thing I have to suggest is to inform the group about the living conditions residents at one time endured along with overcrowding and treatments they suffered. Not for shock value but rather for a deep look into the history. I served clients who once lived there, prior to the mid 70s and the list of "treatments" are horrible. Knowing their past what they suffered allowed me to understand their "behaviors " with open eyes and loving heart. Regardless I will be coming back again soon for the photography tour....

We took a tour with Katherine. She was a very informed and engaging tour guide. I learned a lot from her. I would recommend this tour to anyone! My only complaint was it was hard to figure out where to go for the tour. There are no signs at all on the outside of the building and I struggled figuring out where to go. (Signs on the inside are great though)

We greatly enjoyed the 2 hour group tour with Catherine! She was very knowledgeable of the grounds, buildings, and had first-hand stories, as well, with growing up in the nearby area. Added humor to her tour, too. We enjoyed the shops & restaurants - glad to see there are NO chain businesses allowed! Highly suggest visiting this MI gem and going on the tour. After the tour, we drove to the barns & botanical garden areas, too.

There's so much to enjoy about this space, indoors and outdoors. The merchants throughout the grounds offer high quality goods that are unique and sometimes downright one of a kind. The stories of the property told by Joe Kilpatrick, our tour guide, were informative and heartfelt. He's got a personal history with the space that goes back decades (no, not as a patient) and his passion for caring about others comes through in his presentation. If you're in the area and you're looking for something that is unique, give it a whirl. Just the architecture alone is enough to draw you in. The experience will more than likely bring you back.

With over eight million bricks to construct one building alone and 100-plus years of history, the Traverse City State Hospital evolved into what it is today, the Village at Grand Traverse Commons. Today, the Village at Grand Traverse Commons offers an array of activities, events, and services such as a highly-recommended historical tour, yoga and pilates, an outdoor farmers market, craft and vendor shows, shopping and fine dining, and so much more. Walk the grounds or the shopping center and view the timeline and descriptive photos of the original State Hospital. It is a fascinating, must-see part of Traverse City.

Right Brain is the best. It’s chill, it’s funky, their beer is amazing, you can DoorDash food for lunch or dinner. Bring a board game, grab a beer, download the Touch Tunes app and just hang out.
We were just passing by and decided to stop. I picked up some potatoes, apples, donuts.
OMG, they have rows and rows of bushels. All types of apples. They have squash, pumpkins, Indian corn, garlic cloves, peppers, tomatoes, and mums outside.
Inside the little store is packed! You can get sluced meat and cheese at the deli. Giant pickles! There us an array of baked goods. Apple pie, blueberry pie, pumpkin pie, cookies of all kinds. Cherry donuts, cinnamon rolls, too.
Carmel apples, licorice, jars of jam, and more.
There is a small refrigerated section with milk and other items.
There was so much to take in that I am sure I am forgetting a lot.
And... do not be shy, sit in that giant chair out front, and take a picture.

Grand Traverse Distillery is a distillery that produces vodka, gin, whiskey and rum using locally sourced ingredients. They offer tours for visitors to see the process of making their spirits. The tour is approximately 30 minutes long and costs $10 per person, including a free tasting glass. Additionally, patrons can enjoy cocktails before the tour and purchase unique items in their shop. All staff members are fully vaccinated, and masks are required on the tour for added safety measures.
This distillery tour was delightful. The two of us joined another group (of four) for the tasting and tour, and thanks to our host/guide, we all felt like friends. Our host was knowledgeable and helpful during the tasting and the tour was comprehensive but not too long. We went twice during a week long upper MI visit. Once for dinner and once for a drink outside. The raspberry mead is outstanding.
Pizza was ok. Over sauced and overtopped so the center was wet and soggy while the edges were nicely crisped. Sauce was cloyingly sweet for some reason.
There was live music (a guy and a guitar) when we were inside and sure I’m older, in my early 50’s, but dang was it LOUD for a small room with just a few tables.
Music is good and the singer was good and funny and fun, but I’m not looking to be saying WHAT?!?!? every other sentence as I speak to my wife over dinner.

Beautiful property, polite servers, dog friendly, family friendly, bocce court and Cornhole, pizza looks delicious, the mead is fantastic, can't wait to return next time we are up here!

This is the 3rd year we have gone and as always, the food and drinks are absolutely amazing! The winery is beautiful and spacious. The beer, wine and mead selection is great, and the food menu is bigger then most wineries. Highly recommend for a girls night, date night, or even bring the kids.

A wonderful afternoon spent here at the meadery! Not only was the outdoor seating area beautiful and serene, the food was delicious. It may not have been the meal I was expecting at a lovely countryside place like this, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good their pizza was! We enjoyed some pizza, chicken, and mead out in the breeze on a beautiful day. Played some cornhole and bocci ball too! Definitely will come back!

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tasting various ciders, meads, and wines in the lovely outdoor space. The outdoors area is spacious with plenty to keep kids entertained and lots of seating to accommodate patrons.
Service is friendly and efficient even when they seem to be very busy!

I come here for the truffle fries and the great pizza, and they usually have something interesting going on during the week and weekends. My waitress wasn’t able to answer any of the questions I had about their alcohol because she was under 21 and I guess they didn’t give her training, so that was a little frustrating. Ended up ordering and paying for something I didn’t like, so I think with a little product knowledge they will be the best spot around!

We loved the selection of mead, woodfired pizzas, and other drinks. There is a gift shop with local products as well as mead. There was a band when we were there and the lawn is a lovely place to hang out with friends.

Excellent mead! This was my gateway into brewing my own mead. The Artikan pizza was good. Service was a little slow, especially for a non busy night. Overhead one server complaining about a large table which in unfortunate. I miss SARAH! She was the face of this place! I will still go back and you should as well.

This is such a cool place!! We had some amazing pizza (Drunken goat) and (beetza) and some delicious mead. The very friendly staff was the cherry on top! I would recommend this place to anyone!! A must stop!

Wonderful area set up with outdoor seating and live music on nice days. They have a variety of great beers, ciders and meads. The kitchen is a separate business supplying excellent burgers, fries and pizza.

This place is very beautiful and very relaxing, the staff is always hustling and taking care of everyone, I haven’t eaten there yet but their food seems reasonably priced, my wife and I set up a table for a vendor show on Mondays and I’ve had nothing but good experiences here, bocce court, cornhole. Bands , it’s a great place

Excellent experience at St. Ambrose Cellars! We ordered several items and burgers and pizza were solid choices! Service was kind and drink orders were quick. Food orders took a little long but was worth the wait - nothing fancy just quality ingredients. The kitchen closes 1hr prior so plan ahead. Live music in the barn. Outdoor seating was perfect for a large party of 10. We arrived early and sat at picnic tables near boccee ball/game area [would recommend for kids].

Food was good and the atmosphere is so pretty and peaceful.
The honey gift shop on site is great as well and we grabbed some delicious honey.

Highlights: Dog friendly, spacious outdoor seating area with shaded areas and non-shaded areas, lawn games, friendly staff, amazing pizzas
I’ve been to the Arcadia/Beulah area twice in the last month and on my second trip, a small group of us decided to stop at St. Ambrose Cellars. We had read the reviews and saw a flyer so knew there would be food and drinks, more than just appetizers typical of a winery or cellar. A couple reviews did not recommend the pizza or food in general, so we weren’t sure what to expect.
We went to St. Ambrose Cellars on a weekday in the early afternoon and there were only a few other small groups. The service was really good and our server checked on us a few times and offered to get our dog a water bowl. We ordered the Artiken pizza, the pepperoni pizza, a flight (a mix of meads and wines), wine slushies, and a glass of wine. Drinks are served. Food is more of a self-serve as your table receives a device that buzzes when it’s time for you to grab your food from the pickup window. The pizzas were delicious with a crispy thin crust.
There is a tasting room that has bottles, cans, apparel and a variety of honey products for purchase.
The Legacy Park gives children and adults a quiet, reflective, and physical adventure that is incredibly rare. The Park is of paramount importance at this time in history. Patricia is incredibly accommodating, calm, and communicative. She brings art projects to our school each year and the kids love being part of the Park's art. The volunteers have been wonderful to work with as well. We love the MLAP and its members!

Little known treasure tucked away at Crystal Mountain resort is the Michigan Legacy Art Park. 2.5 mile trail through the woods scattered with art. Wonderful!!
Helene Gidley — Google review
This is a wonderful, and beautifully maintained, art park with a nicely delineated series of trails that can take you on a 2-mile (or shorter) hike to see about 30 pieces of art. The hike is VERY hilly and not stroller friendly, so be sure people in your party are good with doing some hill climbs! The ground is mostly packed dirt and mulch. The sculptures range in style but are mostly from the modern and contemporary eras.

Tried running around this by myself during winter. It has some hills through there. It was definitely a neat attraction to stop and check out

Super cool place in the winter. Has to be even better in the summer when you can see all the art

The park has developed extensive walking trails with michigan artistic works blending with the forest, lakes, and wildlife in an exploratory hike. Located at Crystal Mountain, you can get a room and have fun discovering all the special places, that make excellent memories. Have fun, I sure did.

Really nice and shady walk. Lots of cool sculptures to look at. It's not free, they request a donation of $5 pp or $10 per family and you can pay with card at the visitor info shack or via cash at the start of the trailhead. Well worth the donation though! Very scenic area and serene woods.

Beautiful hiking trail! IMHO, one of the best in the state when you factor in the interesting artwork worked into the surroundings... What a great experience!! A must visit if you are in the area and enjoy hiking.

This park is lovely. The lake is beautiful. We rented kayaks and had a nice time paddling around. They have an accessible boat ramp and bathrooms. It's quiet, but not so quiet that you feel like you can't enjoy talking and laughing.

Fantastic camp ground! Staff was super friendly, love the lots and the lakes. We will make this a regular vacation spot 🙌

This is a beautiful state park campground and beach. The bathroom facilities were not the most cleanliness but the beach was very nice. There is a channel the connects both of the lakes for boats to travel through and some nice fishing areas. This is a nice park and campground in Cadillac Michigan. Although we didn't camp here, the campground looked clean and there were lots of sites next to the lake channel.

The sites are close together, this can be a plus or minus depending on your group. Great for kids! So clean and well maintained! Fantastic bathroom and showers! The drainage at the park is wonderful!

We had a great time here. Restrooms were always super clean. Playground is nice and they have basketball and volleyball courts. Small beach is on the Cadillac side, Mitchell Lake beach is much bigger. We will definitely return!

During the summer make sure to make advance reservations. Weekend spots without reservations during summer almost impossible to get in. After Labor Day much easier. On busy days and weekends you might have issues getting larger rigs in to spots. Takes a lot of maneuvering and patients.
Lovely campground well maintained. Great to be on 2 lakes. Under road walk through by canal to get from one lake to another. The canal is in Guinness Book of World Records! Awesome sunsets. Before warned, garbage is emptied at 4:30 to 530 am. Can hear the clanging throughout the campground. That's the only negative.
It's such a great campground lots of locals camp there and go to work through the summer. Many family/group camps too. 2 great cabins as well.

Park has two lakes with a canal running between them. The park is between the lakes. Great sites right on the canal. The park is in town so expect road noise. You either walk the canal trail or park at the day use to use the beach. The walk to the beach is at most 1/3 or a mile.

This was a beautiful experience. Nice campsite with modern bathrooms. It’s nestled in between both lake Cadillac and lake Mitchell. Both are within steps from the campground. Beautiful public beach access, boat docking and fishing spots. Will be back!!

Nice park. Mature trees for shade. Good biking around Lake Cadillac. Tasty beach on Lake Mitchell. Road noise is a bit much and the lots are packed tight. Bath house is brand new and nice. Recommend an end lot like we had.

Our short stay has proved to be a very pleasant experience.
The park has quite a bit to offer in comparison to other State Parks - a small beach, volleyball, basketball, cornhole at the host site, and kayak rentals. The bathrooms are cleaned numerous times per day instead of once per day. The showers actually have shower heads with water pressure. We have enjoyed our interactions with other campers and the Rangers, too - Cory, Kali, and Ann made excellent impressions on us. They walk around and talk with guests and walk instead of ride to check sites. All in all, this is a must visit State Park!

Pretty much one word...peaceful.
Probably half full. One weekend after Labor Day. Very few small children. Very nice site, easy to back in our 35 ft. motorhome. We had nice weather, some sun, low 70s. We will be back.

We’ve been camping in Michigan state parks since 1993. They have some good ones and some bad ones. This place ranks near the top of the “good list”. Depending on where your site is, you might hear a little road noise, but that’s fine with me. Helps drown me out. 😏. It’s not that bad. No different than staying at Traverse City.
Park staff is great. The entire park is virtually spotless. Very well maintained.
Not sure if they do this on normal big check out days like Sunday, but we left on Labor Day after staying 4 nights. I was dreading the line at the dump station, but it was all for nothing. They had staff directing campers to both of their dump stations so the whole process went as smooth as anyone could ask for.

Nice campground on Lake Cadillac, across the road from Lake Mitchell, the lake water and beaches are both clean. Though the lots are a bit short they are plenty wide and since there isn't a designated camper pad, you can park your camper/RV in what you determine to be the best spot within your site.
This is a great stop. Had been to Baldwin many times and never stopped here, but I was sure glad I did today with my family. Tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the property and the furniture pieces. The architecture and furniture were interesting enough to keep the attention of my 3 and 5 year old daughters. It is craftsmanship at its finest.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend it. The staff was exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. My creative brain was very inspired.
My only feedback is to update the wares at the gift shop. I wanted to support the Shrine and was ready to make a purchase, but couldn't find anything interesting and specific to the site. I would have loved to have seen locally designed stickers with the "Rest" design for a water bottle or laptop, knick knacks and creations out of white pine, Christmas ornaments with the mantle design, etc. The site attracts many from outside Michigan and I am sure they would love to bring some Michigan home. I don't know if it would be possible, but could you host a food truck or an ice cream stand? Something to ask people to stay longer and spend more.

This is a really cool place to visit. If you have driven by it going north near Baldwin MI, take the time to stop in and check it out.
Laura Amalio — Google review
My husband and I were in Big Rapids and were looking for things to do in the area. We drove less than 30 minutes to see the Shrine in the Pines, figuring a $5 per person admission wasn't too much of a gamble. We are so, so glad we went. We spent about an hour at the museum, but it's fantastic and we're taking friends and all of our kids back next week. It's an incredibly unique collection - something you wouldn't find anywhere else in the world. The only negative is that this isn't more widely known and easily accessible to larger cities. It's 100% worth the drive and the very inexpensive cost of a personal tour - which everyone gets. The history behind each piece is incredible. Any woodworker would absolutely love this museum. It's magnificent work and I had no idea that virgin pines grew so large - 7 feet in diameter! I can not recommend making the trip enough. There is a place to tip your tour guide and we didn't have cash on hand, but he definitely deserved a tip. :)

NASTY FOOD. Paid close to $100.00 for some food for the family and got lettuce on my chicken sandwich and it was ROTTEN. Attempted to contact a manager and was told to call Monday because nobody was there at the bar that could help me out. Poor customer service and nasty food. Couple pictures for people to actually see how fresh their food is.

10/10 recommend! The prices are good and they offer gluten free buns (for an extra 2:50)! It’s hard to find a local restaurant that offers gluten free buns, especially burger joints. The gluten free bun was also really good, it wasn’t crumbly or anything. The rum and coke I ordered was also delicious, it was really smooth. Also definitely get the tater tots, you can tell they are homemade! I would say service could be better though, they only had 3 waitresses for the whole restaurant and we waited about 15 minutes after we were done eating to get our bill. But it was also very busy. Another bonus-they had mustard AT the table. At most restaurants you have to ask to get mustard, but I appreciate that they have the mustard right there for you. The music wasn’t too loud, either and the environment was cool. They have a bunch of various vintage beer advertisements hung on the walls along with some other cool decor. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

My girlfriend and I arrived at Schuberg’s at 6:00. We sit and wait 20 minutes for a table, no big deal. We get the table, the waitress asks for our drink orders and she gets them to us. 10 minutes later we order. We wait, and wait, and wait. Watching people around us get their food sooner than us, oh well, we wait. After 30 minutes the waitress comes over saying our ticket is 2 away from the end and it’s soon. Another 30 minutes later she comes with the food. We look and realize it’s the wrong food. Feeling bamboozled, we tell her that this isn’t our order and she scoops it up and brings it to the right table. Now more waiting. We wait and wait and wait. Finally 20 minutes later our food is ready. We eat in 10 minutes flat because we’re so hungry. The waitress comes back and hands us the bill after a little while, I say, “is there any way you guys can cover this? We got here at 6 and have been waiting forever, now it’s 8, I know it’s not your fault but I don’t want to pay this.” She comes back only to have taken our $3 of drinks off the bill. Seriously?!! You give us the wrong order, make us wait longer and then won’t even make up for your mistake? This isn’t the only time this stuff has happened, last time in my group of people they forgot about my order entirely. Good food, horrible service every time without fail.

Top rated for a reason. I took a friend of mine here (who usually goes to Chain Restaurants), and he kept talking about it, for the rest of the day. This place specializes in burgers, and it shows when it comes to the table. I had a salmon salad, that was better than I expected (the salmon tasted like it came from a fish market, then grilled on a charcoal grill). I'm from Grand Rapids, and this place would compete with some of the best places in downtown Grand Rapids. I would definitely go back!
Benjamin Quist — Google review
Was excited to try their famous burgers. Turns out I should have stopped at the Wendy’s I drove by on the way in. I wish the people cooking the food had spent less time chatting up their friends sitting at the bar and more time paying attention to the burger they were cooking to oblivion. By the time it went on the bun it looked more fit for a slider. The waitress was friendly, that was about the only saving grace for an otherwise disappointing stop. Employees make or break an establishment, case in point.

Great burgers in this historical restaurant in the heart of downtown Big Rapids. It dates back to the 1930's. You can tell by the vintage wooden bar and ice coolers. Love those. Even our famous American author Ernest Hemingway visited and has a review of the place back then on the wall. His family had a summer home north of there on Walloon Lake. The staff are fun characters too. I will return as there are many burger variations and of course other delicious items on the menu, like their Reuben sandwich, a must have.

My wife and I went there a few weeks ago, and glad we did! The food is extremely reasonably priced, and it tastes great. They have a large range of burger combos to choose from, they have great and decent priced apps, and the drinks are good too. And the deal-sealer for my wife and I was the GF bun options they have. It’s $1.50 or $2.50 for a GF burger bun, which when having a sit-down meal isn’t anything. I think my wife and I spent maybe $35 including a 20% tip, and we both had full meals, she got a Jack/coke and I got a cherry (grenadine) coke, along with tater tot app. The food was delicious! Only downside, if there was one to be had, was the seating. The seating was so packed we sat at the bar, and scoped out a table that was looking to wrap up, and once they finished, we moved right into the table. But that wasn’t a big deal for us! The waitress even got us drinks at the bar and moved to the table with us!
Yeah. Everything about this place is stellar. The atmosphere, the waitresses are in a great mood, speedy and helpful.
Nicole was over 100% for service and was a pleasure to buy drinks from.

Very busy place on a Saturday at 7pm. Food was okay, we did not eat anything fancy. Some of the drink specials were good and the beers were cold. The service was quick and did a great job keeping up to our needs. When you ask for extra sauce, it arrived quickly, not after you finished your meal. I would choose to go here again if I was in the area without question.

This was my first time playing at Pilgrims Run and I have to say it is in the top 5 of the courses I have played and loved! This course is absolutely beautiful and fun to play. The overall condition is fantastic, the fairways are awesome and the greens have some pretty good undulations to them. On Google Maps the course looks tight with trees lining every fairway but let me tell you it is not as tight as it looks. Plenty of opportunity to hit the fairways without worrying about hitting the trees and if you miss the rough is very consistent. I believe the starter told us there were 85 bunkers scattered around the course and some water. The water only come into play on a few of the holes. The scenery you take in on this course is well worth it also. The clubhouse is very well stocked and everyone we talked with were great! Had a great time playing here and am already looking forward to making this a must play course year after year! Thanks for a great experience!

Beautiful and fun course, really seems like a hidden gem. Easily would have given a 5 star, but I do have two complaints. Myself and a friend had a 9:30 tee time, and while warming up discovered that we had been paired up with another twosome. If I had know this would happen, we would have gone elsewhere. Thankfully the gentlemen we were paired with were great guys and lots of fun. 2nd complaint is somewhat related. We were not going slow, but at a comfortable pace. Our new, random partners were in their 70's and I was not going to rush them along. Near the 15th hole, an employee on a cart interrupted us while putting to tell us we were going too slow and that there was two open holes in front of us. So our random foursome decided to scramble the next few holes to get caught up while the employee watched us from the cart path. We scrambled one par 3, which the employee followed us to, then we were stuck behind a group in front of us. So... how were there two open holes in front of us if we caught up after one hole? And was it justified to follow our group from one hole to the next? It was very uncomfortable and put a damper on what was shaping up to be a great day.

First time playing this course yesterday and it was in really good condition. Here's why I did not rate this higher. The golf ranger stopped by on the 5th or 6th home and asked, "Do you know your pace of play?" (I was playing with two other good golfers) Our response was, "Two minutes behind pace." The ranger said, "You can pick it up and catch up."
There was nobody in front of us and there was nobody behind us by more than one hole.
Why is there a push on golfers who are playing within a good PACE when there is nobody behind them. Not a fan of that on a beautiful day and enjoying golf on a very nice golf course...with NO ONE BEHIND US.
Playing a nice golf course IS appreciated.
Brand new golf carts with GPS and a nice driving range IS appreciated.
Playing at a very solid place and having an employee ask/tell you to play faster with nobody around is NOT appreciated.

Pilgrim’s Run is a hard 10 and awesome golf experience! The course is in excellent shape with consistent rough, well maintained fairways and excellent greens. The layout is entertaining with very clever greens filled with undulation. One of my favorite features is the course is well spread out and it feels like you have the course to yourself on every hole. Overall, I’d say it’s fairly difficult pending skill level and what tees you play. The staff are extremely accommodating and friendly. Having golfed all over the country, this an absolute gem. It also is amazing value and extremely affordable. If looking for a perfect golf experience in Michigan, look no further than Pilgrim’s Run!

In top 20% of courses I have played, but not fond of the abundance of two tiered greens. I also prefer denser fairway grass. The course is a beautiful design with many bunkers and more than a few water hazards.

Played here with some friends and WOW what a course. I had so much fun playing here. It is tucked away in woods and just amazing views. The holes are spread out from one another, which I really loved...it was refreshing & a nice change not having to play a course lined with homes or having to avoid others on a different fairway coming back toward you. Pace of play was not slow or super fast, but honestly I was okay with not rushing. I think if you slice/hook the ball often you might not enjoy the course very much since it is in the woods. The fairways imo are pretty wide so you do get some forgiveness from the course. I think the thing I loved the most about this course is that you had options of different lines and ways you could approach shots. I personally found myself laying up more often than I normally would. The holes I enjoyed the most were the 1st, 6th, 16th & 18th. Honestly, every hole was fun. Everyone was very friendly & helpful. Loved sitting by the clubhouse on the hill and watching people on the 9th green and 18th hole post round. I also really loved that the range, practice green, and 1st Tee were all within a 30 second walk from each other and the clubhouse. If I am ever in the Grand Rapids area, I will be playing here again.

Such a beautiful course. Their summer twilight special is a steal. For $25 you can play 9 holes after 6pm on the weekends. Can’t get better value than that. I wish they had a deal for 18 as I’d love the play the back 9, but that’s something they won’t do. I offered to pay the $25 twice for 2 rounds of 9, but it was a no. If you want to play 18 after 6pm it’s $80. Besides that, friendly staff, gorgeous greens and fairways. Nice clubhouse, too!

Definitely worth the drive up to Pierson to play this beautiful course. Each hole is unique and has gorgeous views and has five different tee boxes for every level of golfer. Staff was very friendly and professional. Fully recommend playing here, in the fall especially, to experience the beautiful colors with the leaves turning.

The 2023 season is off to a GREAT start! Pilgrim's Run was already a favorite course, but now they have an upgraded clubhouse & inventory, new super comfortable carts with GPS, new cart paths and bridge, and continued awesome & friendly staff. The best part, adjusted tee times that make the pace of play and quiet of the course even better than it was! Sunday's round was picture perfect with blue skies, and even good scores!! Can't recommend this course enough - and we play a lot of different courses.

Awesome experience from start to finish and very friendly staff. Pace of play was great and basically felt like we had the whole place to ourselves (teed off late afternoon on a Sunday). This is one of the best courses you are going to find anywhere in the Midwest for under $100.

Such an awesome course. It’s always in great shape and I absolutely love how private each hole is. Even though it was a busy day you still feel like you have the hole to yourself. The people are also great…super friendly and welcoming. Thanks to the starter Richard for taking some great photos of our family as we got ready to tee off on the 1st hole.

Absolutely a must play course if you are in West Michigan. Course is challenging and fun, great condition, fast greens, and everyone there is friendly and pleasant. Looking forward to my next trip to the area. The practice facility is also top notch.

I was visiting Michigan for my daughters wedding, so booked two tee times a month out…. And it lived up to my expectations. From the ease of booking to the friendly staff. What a great experience, gorgeous well maintained course that plays tough. Absolutely love that it wasn’t developed with houses around, truly one of my favorite golf days I’ve had with friends and family. Love the balls in cart included when you get there, beautiful driving range, love the call ahead food at the turn, love the cart girls at the end of round to clean clubs. Even when we fell behind a bit due to some of our players being “new” to golf, the Ranger couldn’t have been nicer telling us we were running behind. Keep it up guys, your doing it right. Will definitely be back at some point.
Always a great place to bring the kids. So many fun animals to see, play structures to wear them out. Cute gift shop, delicious baked goods, and of course the icecream shop. Love that they offer this to our community for free. Bring quarters to buy food to feed the animals! There are also camel rides for $5 a person.

Took my granddaughter there she enjoyed it. Not too many places left without charging admission, only voluntary contribution. The concession and baked good prices were also very reasonable

What an incredible hidden FREE gem in Stanton, worth the drive from anywhere honestly. Cutest little market shop and store. Good prices too!

I’ve been wanting to stop here for years but we never have taken the opportunity to stop until today. We actually made a special trip to visit. Very glad that we did.
This is a very pleasant, family friendly, family owned experience. The petting zoo has far more animals than I expected, and a huge variety-from farm animals to exotics!
The store has a great selection of gift shop items, food stuffs and kitschy items that you know you need!
And the draw for us was the cider and donuts, which were very good and very fresh. Hubbs bought some cookies and he really liked those too.
We didn’t visit the ice cream shop but will definitely be stopping next summer to check it out!!

Nice farm and petting zoo! Cool atmosphere, and great bakery.
We got a really nice fern off of the front porch for $10.00.

Love this place. We try to get out here once or twice a year. It is just shy of an hour from Grand Rapids, but well worth it. No admission fee! However, they will likely entice you to purchase some delicious jams, pies, drinks, donuts, etc from their shop. Have never been disappointed.

Loved it! Free petting zoo with so many different critters. I bought a $5 cup of feed with veggies which was well worth it compared to the dispensers. Great place to get gifts and baked goods as well. Highly recommend for animal-loving adults and kids!

Always excellent food, very friendly people. Down to earth and home town. ❤️ it Here, I visit every time we come to Stanton. Enjoy seeing the exotic animals too.

So much to see and lots of family fun! The animals were very friendly and inviting. No charge to get in. Only charges for rides, food to feed the animals and food for your family. Would be 5 stars if an adult could have rode the camel with our granddaughter. We will definitely go again.

This is a wonderfully well taken care of orchard and farm. There are quite a lot of animals that are from all over the world. You can see kangaroos, exotic birds, camels, sloths, lemurs and many more. It was a great time, for sure. They have a shop that has quite a lot of trinkets and cool food items that are very well done. They also have an ice cream shop. I would highly recommend it for a fun family outing that won't cost a ton of money. It was well worth it!!

Always a fun time for the family! We love to see all of the animals.
We also got pumpkins. The pumpkin patch was pretty picked over by the time we got there (a little late in the season), but we still enjoyed the wagon ride and were able to find a few good pumpkins.
They also had quite a few already picked pumpkins and gourds available at the front.
Along with the pumpkins, we left with some donuts, which were delicious!

I've been going to Anderson and Girls for the last 20 years and every time it gets better! There always seems to be something new to see or do. The animals are very well taken care of and because they are housed and taken care of like pets, they interact with you, it makes bringing kiddos so much more fun because you get to watch them "make friends" with animals we don't see everyday.

OH MY GOODNESS! This is one of the best adventures we've had so far since moving to Michigan! All the animals and the activities and the shopping - amazing! The little snack shop is hopping, but the service is very pleasant. It's a little loud in there when the line is wrapped around the building, haha, so just be kind and patient. 10/10 would highly recommend!

Came for pumpkins, but left with donuts and cider and souvenirs (along with pumpkins). So much to see and do. Bathrooms are a little rough, but everything else was great! We did the tractor ride to the pumpkin patch, then saw the animals, rode a camel, fed birds, then to the gift shop for donuts and cider!
Some of the things we did cost extra (camel ride and bird seed sticks), but all was relatively cheap. There was no cost to enter or see the animals.
I have nothing but positive things to say about Frugthaven Farm! The event I attended was perfectly planned and executed by the staff. The owners were charming hosts and the location is beautiful! I would highly recommend and look forward to my next visit. Thanks for an awesome experience!

Had an incredible experience having our wedding at the farm. Beautiful setting, excellent event coordination, stellar ownership. I can't highly recommend them enough for your next event!

Can't share any photos as the wedding was only yesterday. It's a very beautiful venue for an upscale countrychic style wedding. I thought it was very well done, even given an unfortunate chilly afternoon. Food and staff delightful. Modern Quaint.
The Bride and Groom were both beautiful and so happy. I saw a wedding coordinator that was top notch as well as a photographer that did not miss a blink!! Lovely place lovely 😍
Only downside, while there is ample parking and probably considerations for the elderly//disabled in the main building, this consideration was overlooked in the wedding venue. While pleasant. The bathrooms were up a set of 5 steps. Hardly accessible. The nearest accessible facility was far into the main building. Hardly appropriate for wedding guests and disabilities , and the two 93 year olds with Walkers
Why isn't there handicap parking back there??? At least closer?

On the outskirts of Grand Rapids, this place is a true joy to visit and a welcome retreat from the more commercialized coffee or cidery. Seriously good coffee, flights of hard cider, AND a personable haircut in a vintage barbershop at a reasonable price.

We had our wedding at Frugthaven this May and I cannot say enough kind, wonderful things about Frugthaven and its owners, April and Mike. There was a point in wedding planning when we really thought we might not be able to make it work, but they stood with us the whole way and made sure that we were able to have our dream wedding, no matter what. We had lots of last minute changes and alternative ways of doing things, and April and Mike were more than happy to accommodate to us and make sure that the day flowed smoothly. The venue itself is BEAUTIFUL, with so many photo opportunities and enough space for everyone, it never felt crowded. We had a band playing, and the set up and sound went seamlessly. We had compliments all night from all of our guests. I truly felt like April and Mike were more like a old family friends helping us out on our wedding day. Frugthaven gave us the wedding of our dreams when we weren’t sure it was possible, and I cannot possibly thank them enough.

Amazing venue for a wedding! April and Mike went out of their way for us leading up to, and on the day of the wedding, so everything went smoothly and effortlessly. They were easy to work with and accommodated our requests. Our guests commented on what a great venue it was and how beautiful everything was. We would highly recommend Frugthaven to anyone!

Super fun stop a bit farther out, but worth the drive. Their selection of ciders is extensive and is sure to please everyone in the group. Set in a clean section of farmland, you can see why someone would want to have their wedding here. It’s very clean and upkept, with nice fireplace seating on the outdoor patio.
The market had a small selection of different goods alongside cider and donuts. The cider donuts had a great flavor, but seemed just a tad dry.
Overall we really enjoyed our time here and we plan on returning!

Amazing coffee shop with some very delicious donuts and bagels I had the blueberry banana smoothie it was delicious as well. very cool modern yet classic atmosphere with comfortable seating. A perfect place to hang out and enjoy your coffee. Being an apple farm, they also have a great assortment of apples and ciders that you can purchase to go.
What a great time!! We sat in the caboose where the kids got to sit up top. The chairs were SO comfortable and it was nice having the table to sit at. The train rolled at 10 mph so a nice speed to take in the scenery. We took the October themed pumpkin train where the kids had on costumes, apple cider and donuts were on our caboose and two girls dressed as a pumpkin and a crow came in and performed a few songs for us. They were really good and the kids really liked it. The kids also got to pick a pumpkin when they got off the train. Not to mention the fantastic eateries right around the corner, pizza, donuts and an ice cream shop. Nice fall day, we will be back next year!!

We are Grandparents, and brought our family a Merry Christmas experience.
We were a group of 20 paid $460, and they decided to board us last, and we were one of the first people to arrive at the Station. They should board larger groups first! We stood outdoors for an 1/2 hour on a very windy 30 degree day with a newborn, 18 month old, and 4 more 5 and under. They over booked the 2:30 time slot train, had no where to put us, separated us all, some Grandchildren had to sit by themselves with complete strangers. They literally crammed us in Car #3, that is not updated, with lots of ripped broken seats, and windows were so steamed up you couldn't even see out. Our Children and Grandchildren were very polite, and gracious during a very disappointing time for our Very First Christmas Train Ride, and it will be our Very Last with Coopersvilles Marne! Very Sad & Unhappy, Not a Merry Christmas!

Very nice attraction. We brought our 2 & 3 year olds to ride the Famous Pumpkin Train & they loved it! They had characters all dressed up in costume singing festive Halloween songs for the kids. They also came through twice and offered drinks & snacks for sale. Plenty to keep the little ones occupied. There are restrooms on board. The staff are exceptionally friendly & all the kids even get a pumpkin at the end of the train ride. They also offer scenic train tours as well as a special Santa Train ride around Christmas time.

Quick stop in Coopersville on the way to our destination. Nice town with a unique downtown. Marne Railway and the old trains were a pleasure to stop and see. Well worth the side quest 🙂

This is a cute little train ride from Coopersville to Marne. It takes about 90 minutes round trip. There are about 4 cars to choose from to sit in. One has dining tables and air conditioned, one is air conditioned and the last is not air conditioned. There is entertainment on the train and you can bring foods and light drinks. It is great for kids and affordable for families. I wish the train went a bit faster but it's all volunteer ran and it's good for what you get.

Went on their Easter Train, it was a lot of fun and very cool! My son who loves trains was glued to the window and the ride was perfect length to keep him entertained. They had the Easter bunny come and walk along the middle of the train, it was very cool! We will be back!!!

We went on the Bunny Train with our 9 year old and our 24 year old/and his SO. We all had a great time! The ride isn't too long to bore everyone, but isn't too short that we felt it wasn't long enough. The singing/skit team was adorable! Thanks for all you did to make it fun for everyone!

It was a clean train, nice and friendly staff.
We wish there would have been some commentary about the town and history of the trail and railroad as we went on, but no biggie. We did get a newspaper with a lot of details and updates about the train.
Would for sure recommend if you're in the area.

Booked a cab ride for about $70. Was enjoying the view sitting at the station until two guys came in and one just told me “I had to get off the seat since he had to sit there” and I was left with either to sit on the seat that was too low to see or just stand the entire ride. Really wasn’t in the friendliest way either. It was sort of a fun ride but paying how much I did, I feel I at least should’ve had the leisure of sitting and watching everything

The train itself was cool! Loved the old school lights in car 1. Was expecting the train to be decorated for Halloween. The ladies who sang were wonderful. Added a nice touch. No one checked our tickets. It would have been cool if the pumpkin s had been in a hay setting. My 3vyear old grandson loved it and that's all that mattered. If it would take donations to decorate the train for the holidays, I would be willing to do that. Thank you to the volunteers. You rock!

Positives:
-The train was beautiful
-The booth seats in the premium were comfortable
-Hot cocao and cookies were great
-Santa visited and gave small gifts
-The story of polar express was read
-The time it took for the whole trip was neither to short or to long
- Most everyone working the train were very nice and helpful
Negatives:
-Its not scenic
-spent 15 minutes outside and another 30 in the seats waiting (they ask for you to be 30 minutes early)
-A lady working told the grandparents to move to different seats away from us to fit a family of 5 that reserved last minute so they could sit together. When I tried to explain to her that I reserved those seats and that the grandparents were with us, she wouldn't even look me in the eye and said "this is what the seating is going to be" and walked away. Luckily someone else working overheard and came by and asked me what the problem was and helped sort it out and the family of 5 was more then willing to shuffle around so we each got to sit with our own families.
I understand they had some changes they needed to do this week, but that was not an excuse to be rude. I had the email about the changes and the new seating arrangements, and my seats I reserved did not change. I very much appreciated the employee that was willing to help us sort it out instead of walking away.

The train was beautiful and my granddaughters had a great time with the characters who came through to sing and tell jokes.
A bit underwhelming, overall, with a lack of engagement. Would have been nice to have music or commentary about the train or the town, etc. The side of the train with the large windows was on the highway side, so it wasn't as scenic as we hoped. The newspaper with information on the organization was a cute touch and done well.
Definitely geared toward ages 2-8ish. We were there as a family, so 5 adults and 2 kids under 5, and probably should have chosen a different activity to spend $300 on. The girls loved it, especially the 5yo, so it was an enjoyable time.
It's a historic wooden covered bridge in a place that's exactly like someplace that would have a historic wooden covered bridge.. with the historic preserved small town of Fallasburg next to it...it would've been completely in place if horse draw carriages instead of cars were on the road. It's a time capsule with the bridge as it's center piece. It's absolutely a must go if your there in the fall during peak colors and not uncommon to see newly weds having pictures by it year round.

My husband took me here as a surprise day trip and I was absolutely floored by how amazing this place was! I never seen so many incredibly cool sculptures and artwork and so much historical things and then the best part we hadn't even got to the BEST PART yet which was the butterfly gardens. Butterflies are my most favorite thing in the whole world and it was so jaw dropping, they land on you, they're everywhere! So beautiful!! they're so colorful and amazing! The butterfly House where the butterflies live the best life ever in itself is absolutely breathtaking! Everybody in the world should come visit this place! Honestly always a beautiful place to go for a walk. Excellent area for kids to experience and learn. Little gift shop has some beautiful items. Honestly I could never understand how someone may not like this place. Whether you go by yourself to take pictures or just to clear your mind. Or you're going with a significant other for your entire family and kids. Definitely worth the experience and the money spent. Some may think ticket prices a little high however we fully understand that the ticket price doesn't just pay wages and basic upkeep that it also pays towards donations and contributions to keep this place up and running and growing. You're ever in the area I highly recommend you check this place out.

FM Gardens and Sculpture Park is one of the gems of Michigan (the whole country, really!) I’ve been a member over the years, and they keep making a great place even better. I go there often, to walk amongst the beautiful grounds, and to see the art - they have over 200 sculptures by world-class artists! If you have kids (I took mine when they were little and now bring my granddaughter) there is a special children’s garden full of interactive things to do, as well as an awesome indoor play area. The whole place is a wonderland for children, full of plants and wildlife, including swans and geese and ducks and turtles and frogs in the wetlands boardwalk area. And there is a great cafe, wonderful gift shop, picnic area where you can bring your own food, and plenty of spotlessly clean restrooms :) They also offer many special events, including parties and concerts, and things like the butterflies in the spring and holiday trees from around the world in late fall. If you haven’t been, I recommend it as one of the top things to do in Grand Rapids!

This was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. There is way more to see than the eye let's on. The ticket price of $18 is well worth the amount of park to cover. There is also a great indoor area to explore as well. The park sections are well taken care of and it was a true delight to walk the trails and see wildlife in its natural form. We probably spent more time looking at the frogs, tadpoles, and chipmunks than anything else. There is staff readily available anywhere in the park. The Japanese Gardens is definitely a highlight and a must see.
However, there is not nearly enough shaded areas to take refuge in during hot summer days in some of the outdoor sections. With little cloud cover the particular Sunday I went, it was too much to continue on and finish the park.
The park recommends giving yourself at least 2 hours, but honestly, you should plan for 3 or 4 if you like to stop and observe. It's a great way to spend a large portion of your day.

What a fun way to spend the afternoon! There's lots to see.. so many pretty plants & trees along the many pathways. They have a neat children's play area. Make sure to bring drinking water!! It's a long walk, but we seen everything within 2 hours.. if you're wanting to move slower and take your time you could easily spend all day here tho. The greenhouse was really neat, lots of tropical plants & trees.. the cactus room is amazing also! As for the art.. well it's was ok. I'm not big into art so most of it didn't impress me. A few that were neat tho was the giant horse, arch, and electricity one(pictured)

A rather wonderful space for the community, and travelers alike. The grounds are expansive with meandering trails both shaded and open. The gardens, landscape and hot house vignettes are enjoyable, but lack emphasis on botanical diversity and content. Dominant use of hybrids and ordinary nursery stock used creatively to provide aesthetic balance.
There are a lot of sculptures, large and small. The diversity of styles is impressive and each provide a plaque to note artist and title while leaving the interpretation to the viewer. The amphitheatre is beautiful and offers a unique space to partake in cultural performances. It is the very reason I had the pleasure of visiting this venue, being on tour with a music concert.
Absolutely all the staff and volunteers, from every department and level of position are friendly, helpful and accommodating. There is tram service that tours the grounds for those that want or need a way to see everything. An on-site cafe offers uncomplicated yet fresh food for a variety of dietary needs and tastes, with options for indoor and outdoor seating. If you're visiting with children you will not be alone, there are a variety of spaces geared to offer safe and entertaining areas for the young ones. Generally speaking the venue is large enough that those desiring more peaceful contemplation of their surroundings will not feel neglected.

When I lived in the area we visited frequently and had annual passes. We enjoyed the butterflies in the spring and the train ride at Christmas. In between we never tired of the standing exhibits or special exhibits. Back in the day we could see The Thinker. Today you can see Eve and of course, The American Horse which is an epic sculpture.
You'll find the Children's Garden to be charming at any age. You'll be entranced by the Japanese Garden. Other areas you don't want to miss are Michigan's Farm Garden and Sculpture Park. There are also exhibits indoors.
If you want to see everything, allow 4-5 hours. It's best though to become a member and return regularly. Plan a trip with a book or a camera and sit in the many well positioned areas to enjoy beauty and tranquility.
Also, check frequently for special events including outdoor concerts in the spectacular amphitheater.
Below please enjoy some photos below. It's not a complete tour so you'll want to go yourself.
Pricing hasn't changed in years so it's still very reasonable.
Almost everything is completely accessible except for a few small trails. There is a mobility center with some wheelchairs and scooters (first cone first serve). There is a tram that is narrated if you prefer not to walk.
There are some designated picnic areas and some eating options though I didn't see these personally.
Parking is plentiful.
No smoking.
The signage maps are plentiful and strategically placed. The guest guide provided with your ticket is very helpful .
Adult ticket is $20; seniors $15.

It was really cool to see international sculptures in grand rapids. I've personally never been to a sculpture garden but it's cool to listen to everyone's interpretation of what they think the sculpture represents if the artist won't tell you. Sometimes the artists actually visit the gardens which is really cool to hear what they have to say about their own work. The Japanese garden was may favorite, probably because of my affinity for Japanese culture and art. They have a tea house in which they actually do tea ceremonies there every once in a while, but you have to reserve a spot for yourself if you want to experience that. There are plenty of different types of flora and lots of ponds and waterfalls. A very nice place to forget all of your issues and just relax. When I went it was like 90° F so I was focusing more on not being dehydrated but I did take some time to sit on a bench in the shade and just reflect. The art is very abstract if you're into that. Plus the visitor center is air-conditioned so it feels nice to go in after being in the hot sun.

This garden is absolutely stunning and worth every penny. The entire garden is perfectly kept and you could easily spend your entire day here. Not only is it nice to look at and explore it's a great place for photos. The garden is kid friendly and has tons of activities to keep busy. There's easy access to many bathrooms spread about the garden and lots of drinking fountains and places to recycle or throw items away. There's places to eat snacks from home or eating from their personal Cafe. Overall i enjoyed every second of being here and would highly recommend going.

WOW!!😯😍 Such an amazingly beautiful and awesome place!! We spent 4hours walking through most of the inside and we ate lunch there too. It was raining outside, and this was a perfect place to go on a rainy day. BUT we have to go back to walk through all of the outside. I did walk outside to see a couple fountains real quick, but there is SO much more that I want to see. They have very detailed and handy maps that you can get from staff. You can take a tram tour through most of the outside gardens. This place is just unbelievable, and sooo worth the price. If I lived near by, I'd get a membership forsure. The cafe is amazing too, and has so many neat options to choose from.

An amazing and beautiful place to visit in West Michigan. Highly recommend doing the 45 minute tram tour to view many of the sculptures on the grounds with narration. We spent over an hour in the Japanese Garden and it is the most amazing spot in the park. The children's garden area is fun and has a really cool tree fort. You need all day to even try and see everything. We spent 3 hours there and did the tram, Japanese Garden and Children's Garden.

The sculpture park is a highlight of this establishment, featuring an impressive collection of outdoor sculptures from renowned artists. As you stroll through the gardens, you’ll encounter striking sculptures set against lush landscapes, creating a harmonious interplay between art and nature. The pieces range from classical to contemporary, ensuring there’s something for everyone to appreciate.
The botanical gardens within the park are equally captivating. They showcase an array of plants, including tropical, arid, and seasonal displays, making it a year-round destination. The conservatory is a real gem, housing a diverse collection of exotic plants and seasonal flower displays. It’s an ideal place to escape the cold Michigan winters.
The children’s Garden is a fantastic space filled with interactive exhibits and activities, making it both fun and educational for kids. Educational programs and events are often hosted here, making it a valuable resource for learning about horticulture and art.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I couldn't even begin to say enough wonderful things about these gardens! And the sculptures too! My parents brought me here years ago when it was a lot closer to its original opening and it certainly has grown and FLOURISHED! The pictures speak for themselves as to the beauty of the entire place. But the workers are just as beautiful. Everyone was so kind, helpful, friendly, and happy! A truly pleasant and peaceful place to be! Thank you so much, Frederik Meijer Gardens, for an amazing day and memories that will last forever!

Had a really great time! My in-laws have the grandparents membership and it's totally worth it, this place is extremely family friendly. The indoor gardens are stunning and the kids loved watching the mini train go by! There's a kids playroom on another level as well if you need a break from all the noise. We mainly went for the Christmas around the world exhibit, which is so beautiful I just wish they had the space to do every county. Staff was also wonderful!!

My daughter and I enjoyed the butterfly exhibit!! The staff is always so friendly and helpful The quails are so cute along with the canaries. Will definitely be going back. The sculptures are very interesting. The handicap parking area is plentyful. The wheelchairs are readily available. I can't wait until the plants outside start blooming. Beautiful outdoor areas

The only negative i could say about here is that they don’t have a squished penny machine! 😢 My girlfriend and i absolutely lovee this place let me tell you what, i have been going here since i was real little and am fortunate enough to live close by. I have the membership and i am constantly surprised and amazed that every time we go, there is something new and different to see. The property is big and they have a lot to offer and see, i would highly recommend going if you can!

I no longer live in Michigan and visiting GR it was fun to take our kids to see the gardens and the butterflies. Such an incredible experience to see all the plants and the butterfly experience was incredible. I would definitely recommend visiting and experiencing the butterflies.

I went in early April for the butterfly exhibit and was absolutely blown away. It was my first time coming here, but will absolutely not be the last. The butterflies are very chill about you getting close for pictures (but NO TOUCHING). I've heard there can be a long wait in the ticket line ($20/adult), but we made the mistake of showing up an hr before close so there wasn't a wait 🙃

The Gerald Ford Presidential Museum tells the story of Gerald Ford, 38th president of the United States, and his wife. The museum has exhibits about their lives and presidency, as well as rotating exhibits that focus on American history.
I'm in town on a business trip and made a point to free up an hour to visit the Museum, and in glad I did! They just reopened yesterday and the staff were so excited to have visitors return! The Cabinet Room, Oval Office, and Assassination Attempt Gun were the highlights! I even was able to pay my respects at the tombs of the President and First Lady on the grounds. I am so glad I visited - and an hour was just the right amount of time!

This presidential museum is detailed and well done. There is often a temporary exhibit which makes visiting even more worthwhile. Located across the street from the GR Public Museum and right on the river. There is free parking available, as well as walking paths and a pedestrian bridge if you want to cross the river and explore downtown. Museum is very quiet, clean, and the staff is helpful. Gift shop is small but there are many custom and fun items.

Nice museum highlighting Ford’s Childhood College days and his work in Congress. There is a great replica of the Oval Office and Cabinet Room . You are allowed to go into the Cabinet room and take a seat around the table. President Ford and Betty are buried on the grounds outside the Museum.

Highly recommended presidential library. Inexpensive, beautifully maintained, and interesting architecture. It's not overwhelmingly large. Plus, the videos and 70's artifacts are fascinating. Loved the exact replica of the oval office and the cabinet board room!

The Gerald Ford Presidential Museum is a fitting testimonial to America’s only unintentional President. Living proof we live in a country of laws and not men. How great to have the museum in the hometown. Great exhibits and interactive presentations.

Loved, “A heartbeat away: The American Vice-Presidency, currently at the museum. Learn all about our 38th President and how he made some decisions that saved our Republic. Very interactive. See the Berlin Wall, the Oval Office, and the Cabinet Room. The Betty Ford exhibit shares the story of her accomplishments & how she made a difference. From her work on Equal Rights for Women to her passion around those in need, and formation of Betty Ford Clinic. I enjoyed the bicentennial exhibit. Stop in at the museum gift shop!

The museum was decent; it was well maintained, it had some interesting history and information not only about former President Gerald Ford but also several pivotal moment of his presidency.
The biggest problem is with the man himself, I personally didn't find him that fascinating of a president and his tenure was largely short and unnoteworthy aside from his near-disastrous pardoning of Richard Nixon.
Still the museum and staff were great and the recreations of the Oval office and other presentations are immersive and faithfully recreated.

Wow, what a great piece of American history here. There is lots of fascinating memorabilia and interactive features. While Ford may not have been the most influencial president, he did preside over some of the most influencial times in US history. Great place to take the kids, or just learn some more about American history for all ages.

Very well laid out museum, following the life of our most unique (to date) president. I was very impressed by the displays, information and the Oval Office recreation. The staff was kind, helpful and very welcoming. I went there at the end of the day and was the only visitor - what a special visit as it was my first time to any presidential museum. Thank you everyone for making my visit there a GRAND one!

The only Presidential museum in Michigan, and what an amazing adventure!
As we entered the parking area,we didn't have any trouble finding a place to park. Nicely landscaped, situated on the banks of the Grand River.
The entrance fees are very reasonable starting at 12.00 general, 10.00 for Sr, 6 - 18yr
6.00.
There are 3 exhibits to view at this time: 1976 Presidential Election, A Heartbeat Away ,
The American Vice Presidecy, and Exploring Watergate.
Took over 3.5 hours to walk through and was very educational.

The museum has a simple layout but offers alot of details about Gerald Ford's presidency. The second floor walks you through a life of service starting from Ford's early years as an Eagle scout, his college years, his service as a Naval Officer, congressman, Vice President, and finally his presidency. You can appreciate his many years of service, despite his short lived presidency. I recommend visiting this museum especially for history lovers.

Even though I lived thru this period it was great to review it again. We've come so far and Ford did much to heal our nation.
The exhibit about the other Vice Presidents was amazing history. Too often, if not always, the Veep was only a footnote on our memory.
This is our fifth presidential library/museum. It's amazing the lack of recent history we were never taught in school that has so much bearing on the world we live in today.

The Grand Rapids Public Museum is a large museum with exhibits on history, science, and culture. It has a 1928 carousel as well as an exhibit about the natural habitats in West Michigan.
The public museum is a great place for families to go and learn but have fun at the same time! The exhibits are great and educational, the workers are nice, they even complimented me on my shirt, and it has an overall nice atmosphere! I recommend!

Had a wonderful visit up until the end when museum staff singled out our family to keep reminding us it was closing time. Several other families continued farther into the museum while she followed us and anytime we stopped to glance at an exhibit she would remind us how long we had until closing time. The planetarium Pink Floyd light show was very cool. However, we are planning another visit and hopefully will not run into same staff.

My 10 y.o. old son and an awesome time going here. It was perfect for a small adventure to a place we have never been to before. There are 3 floors full of exhibits. Some exhibits do change a couple times per year. Right now is "The power of Poison" exhibit. It was all super cool. Definitely recommend if you need something fun and educational to do for an afternoon. The only downside is parking. I paid almost $20 bucks to park for 4 hours in the designated parking ramp for the museum, which was more than our tickets combined. But still, overall worth it.

If you're looking for a unique and classy wedding venue that screams "Grand Rapids" the museum is THE place! I've had the joy of photographing here many times, and I discover something new every time! Where else can you say "I do" under the stars, and then have your first dance under a whale?? They offer multiple ceremony options to fit your vision, including the option for a planetarium wedding! The main floor is the perfect for any size reception. The outdoor space all around the museum is always beautiful, and it’s right next to the Blue Bridge – another iconic Grand Rapids must-have! Plus you can’t visit the museum without riding the carousel! Who says you can’t have a little fun on your wedding day?

We had a great time visiting all of the exhibits. Lots of things are interactive and keep you interested. Our favorite part was definitely the Streets of Old Grand Rapids exhibit. It was just like walking through an old town! Lots of detail and effort went into the exhibit, and it definitely showed. The only thing we weren’t able to check out was the historic carousel. The carousel was unfortunately closed when we visited. Overall it was a wonderful experience!

Our kids loved the museum been years since we have went but took our neice and nephew. They had some great time with interactive exhibits the old Grand Rapids street with shops never thought I would see an Arcade in a museum as an exhibit makes me feel old but definitely fun to watch the kids play our favorite games. Still glade to see the whale skeleton and airplane hanging from the ceiling, there's a lot going on in the public museum it's a gem of Grand Rapids for sure. If your on vacation with little kids I'm sure they will enjoy it as much as we did.

I received a aenior citizen discount and parking validation at the parking ramp because I am a Kent County resident. Nice bonus. In the museum the city street is always interesting to see. There were "pharmacist" in the apothecary to explain what we were seeing. We viewed nearly all displays. We didn't ride but watched the carousel. The staff did a great job explaining how to board and ride safely. The planetarium and carousel requires an additional fee but all fees were affordable.
Take quarters with you to play the classic video games!!
I like to go every couple of years as the displays are always changing.

Loved walking around the museum and getting a self guided history lesson on all the unique things the building holds. I couldn't help but wonder what might could be added to the museum in the next 100 years. Where will the world be and how far will the world have gone by then, and if earth will still be the only planet we as humans reside on... or not....???

This spot is an absolute blast, offering an engaging journey into the rich history of Grand Rapids and Michigan. We got lost exploring the captivating bug exhibit, although I heard it's closing in February, so catch it while you can! It's not just for kids – adults can have a great time here too. Definitely worth a visit!

Always an awesome experience, and it was beautifully decorated for Christmas 🎄🎁 I have always loved going here since I was a kid. I decided to take my nephew to see the bug exhibit and he had an amazing time. The only negative I can say is the person we experienced at the cash register in the cafe had no personality and was quite unwelcoming.

I was afraid there wouldn't be enough for my grandkids, 2 and 4 years old, to do here, but after 3 hours, they begged to stay longer. The builder exhibit was a huge hit, and although the bug exhibit was a little scary for the 2 year old, there were parts that were fun for her, too. They also loved the habitat and animal exhibits. What a GR treasure!
John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids is a zoo home to animals from all over the world. Visitors can feed spider monkeys, bears, penguins, and pelicans in close quarters and learn about their daily routines. The zoo also features activities such as ziplining or riding camels.
We're in the area currently for a concert and needed some time to kill before checking into our hotel, so we stumbled across this zoo. And I will say, it's really nice! Spacious enclosures for the animals, nice graphics that talk about the animals, facts about how endangered they are. The aquarium was really cool, and the penguin habitat was great. They seemed really happy.
The animals appeared to be healthy and well cared for. They have a petting zoo as well, which was fun to do.
Because of the time of year, only a few places to eat were open, and the one place we went to had a pretty long wait (like 20ish minutes). But the food was decent, normal zoo food.
Really enjoyed going here. The price of admission wasn't insane either. Would love to come back in the summer when more animals are out.

A really great zoo! We loved the trees and winding paths. It feels very natural, unlike some zoos which are too open with the sun beating down on the animals. We went to a wedding there and got to explore the zoo, and it was the best wedding experience I've ever had! Highly recommend visiting, but if you've got an event coming up it's worth checking out for the great venue!

I went in with the expectation that it would be a fairly typical zoo layout and experience but I was pleasantly surprised. The zoo has a very vertical component to the land and is incorporated well into the surrounding trees and hillside. The types of animals is pretty standard but the hippo was nice to see. Staff were numerous and friendly with info on the surrounding exhibits. Great for the whole family.

So much to see and do. The "extras" are definitely worth it. Never been to a zoo on a forest foothill before. Worth every penny. Lots of shaded areas. Enclosures for the animals were great...lots of room for them and enrichment. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area.

Came for the lantern festival so can’t speak for the full zoo but had a great time. Layout was great and the event was spectacular. Showed up just before dark and liked it so much that we did a second loop once it was completely dark. Got a chance to see the eagles and snowy owls too. Would definitely come back for this event but would love to check out the zoo again in the daytime.

When we visited, the cable car ride that takes you up was closed for the season. I recommend taking the walking route up to the station up and then visiting the enclosures on by one on your way down. To do this, when you enter, go in the following order: Aquarium -> Kangaroo/Walaby -> Petting zoo -> Follow waterfall route right up to the train station. There are multiple snack stalls along the way.
It's a long walk without any enclosures but worth the effort. The route is stroller friendly. If you have little ones with you, I recommend renting the strollers at the entrance.
I like that all the big enclosures such as the lion, tiger, chimpanzees have multiple viewing locations.
Due to choices in paths, you are likely to miss: Natural treasure (lots of snakes n lizards), chimpanzee sleeping room, second tiger enclosure, bear and the snow leopard. Backtrack to them if you want to cover all enclosures.

We went for the lantern Festival and it was everything we expected and more. It was a lot more I thought maybe half the zoo but it was so much. All the lights and the music and the interactive things, it was wonderful! It was great seeing people of all ages enjoying!

Very nice, clean zoo. Small but a nice assortment of animals, some I've never seen before in person. The enclosures were spacious for each animal, I like that. I also liked that the signs told the stories of some of the animals including how/why they were in a zoo. My favorites were the eagles (bald and 2 golden), the grizzlies, and the reptiles/amphibians. Didn't get to see some animals because of the heat, but that's pretty normal in a zoo. Would have loved to see the snow leopards and somehow we missed the red pandas. There were some beautiful Lego displays of animals throughout the park, mostly at the entrance, that were fascinating.

A decent zoo - neat how it is kind of on the side of the hill. I recommend taking the little 5 minute tram up to the top and coming down from there. All the birds are put away for bird flu and there is a ton of construction going on so eventually the zoo will be really nice with the exhibits all finished. The good is a little pricey and it costs extra to do all the things like the ropes course, zip line and tram, but it's not horribly outrageous. Some very cool sculptures and the waterfall is cool.

Attended Lantern Festival last week on Thursday, well organized event, love the way the path works with the trees. With it being a hot early June day the animals were more active in the evening. The staff was friendly and always looking to help. The entrance fee for the event was $22 and there was time slots with plenty of flexibility. The parking was free which was a wonderful perk.

John Ball Zoo is a nice attraction. I've been to several zoos in Michigan. Was very disappointed that the website didn't note that it is an incline to walk to the top of the park and my parents are in their mid 70s. The Funicular takes you to the top so you can walk down instead of up, but of course it was closed. Some exhibits were great, and some were just meh. Most exhibits had a zookeeper available to answer questions and they were very informative. There were some dead fish in the aquarium which was upsetting to my daughter.
All in all I would recommend it for a family day trip. It's what you would expect from a zoo in my opinion.

This was a great zoo to visit while passing through town. It was the perfect size and we covered everything in about 2 hours (yes, we obviously could have stayed longer, and we didn't spend too long at anyone spot, but we did get to see everything). The funicular was not operating the day we visited, but I don't think that detracted from our experience. The animals have nice enclosures, especially the tigers and lions.

Must say this was a really cool zoo... I loved that it wasn't to big, but also not to small. Was so happy with the exhibits they covered more than I could have hoped for, from the lions to the turtles. Make sure you stop by the parakeet area where you can feed them on your hand. Also the 🦘 was really cool as well. Was one of my favorite zoos in the area

Lantern Festival. It was an incredible display throughout the zoo. No animals were out at night. Entry to the festival was timed. You need to buy your tickets in advance. This is a worth the drive experience.

To start, the 5-star rating is actually for the Lantern Festival which is held at the zoo, not the zoo itself. I've never been to the John Ball Zoo before this, and I haven't seen the animals (the living ones). Instead, I went to their Lantern Festival, and the lantern animals were pretty great. Plus, I really like the layout of the zoo (built into a hill), which makes for a much more intersting walk than the zoo in my city. If you haven't had a chance to check out the Lantern Festival, I'd recommend it before it wraps up in June. Definitely a good way to spend an evening out with a significant other, the family, or if you just want something fun to look at while you take a walk. I had a great time with my DSLR trying to get pictures to showcase some of the lanterns that are there.

The Lantern Festival is what originally drew me to the zoo. We went during the day to experience the animals. However due to the season a lot of the exhibits were empty. We can back in the evening for the festival and it was top notch. I would absolutely recommend going at least once. The zoo overall was maintained fairly well. Had a great experience.

The Van Andel Arena is a 12,000-seat venue located in downtown Grand Rapids and it is often used for big-name concerts and family shows. The arena also hosts big games of basketball, bull riding and other sports. President Barrack Obama was once a guest at an event at the Van Andel Arena.
Went to see Casting Crowns tonight. What an amazing feature to see. I don't have any idea why more people don't listen to them. The opening act was so good. I don't want to over state how much fun I had. Recommend checking out this venue period. What a way to grow. By listening to this music

My husband and I were just here May 20 for Friday Night Smackdown. While the event itself was very enjoyable, the venue is your standard arena.
Bathrooms were decent, and the food and drinks were overpriced as they usually are at these types of places. The only personal downside for me was the lack of mask protocol, if not for anything else to mask the onslaught of the smell of beer, sweat, must, hot breath, and rear end mixed together. For women, you can't bring in purses, only small hand clutches. And the seats are super close together, which isn't a problem, except when you have persons who are much bigger in size trying to squeeze into a seat while invading your personal space.
Otherwise, we had a pretty good time.

We had a great time!! It was a bit small, but that didn't stop the show. The bike show was pretty cool at the beginning. But the monster truck show was fun to watch. There were 2 times that the trucks couldn't perform, but I just think it was time management. I do recommend taking your family, though. Parking wasn't so bad, and entering wasn't that bad either.

The Van Andes Arena is one of the top three venues in Michigan. The facility is located in the heart of Grand Rapids and was established in 1996. The total capacity is close to 12,000 and there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Recently, I attended a Dixie Chicks concert with my Mother and the acoustics were top notch. I’d highly recommend making a visit for any and all special events!

One of the friendliest concert staff! Even when guests were hard to handle they showed kindness. The stage was super close for my tickets and all the seats looked good to sit in! One of the best times I've ever had! See You Again!

It was a great experience at the inaugural season opener for Grand Rapids Rise pro volleyball last night at Van Andel! ❤🧡💛🏐 Tickets sold out and it was packed! They introduced Ember, their new mascot, too! One area of improvement: letting us in the door and then waiting for 5 minutes before getting our tickets scanned to find our seats was a little clustered and awkward, but once we got settled in, it was great! Can't wait to watch more pro volleyball!

I went to a Hillsong elevation worship concert here. It was huge and every seat was filled! But super nice building the concert was awesome! They also had like a little shop in the upper floor that was kinda neat as well.

Good place for events. Good views from about everywhere. Staff are friendly. Lots of clean bathrooms and many food and drink options. Parking available all over town. Getting in can be a hassle some times. Good times for hockey fans, new basketball team here as well.

I recently went to the People's Tour featuring Quinn XCII with special guests ARIZONA and Julia Wolf at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI. The concert was amazing and the venue was perfect!
The acoustics at Van Andel Arena were incredible. The sound was clear and crisp, and you could hear every word of the songs. The arena is also very spacious, so there was plenty of room to move around and dance.
There were plenty of concession stands and merch tables throughout the arena, so you never had to go far to get what you needed. The restrooms were also well-maintained and clean.
Getting in and out of the arena was very easy. There were plenty of parking options available, and the security lines moved quickly.
The best part of the show was ARIZONA. They were so energetic and engaging, and they really got the crowd involved. They even brought out a random fan to play drums on stage with them!
Overall, I had a great experience at Van Andel Arena. The venue is perfect for concerts, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to see a show!
🤩 - The acoustics were amazing!
💃 - The crowd was so energetic!
🥁 - ARIZONA brought out a random fan to play drums on stage!
💯 - I had a great time!

Been here for Hockey games and concerts. This is a really great arena in which to watch your favorite bands and sporting events.
I love the upper seating in rows A and B. Great views.
I am a bigger guy so some of the seats are more cramped than others. If you are of larger persuasion spend the money for better seats, they can be a bit to squeeze between the cup holders.
Completely cashless for transactions which is nice and speeds up the lines. Being able to order ahead at the concessions from your phone is a cool perk as well.

Saw Thomas Rhett here a while back, great concert great place for a concert also the acoustics are wonderful because it's a smaller place not as big as some other arenas. A little more up close and personal. Recently went and saw Eric Church there also.

Always a great show at the Van Andel!! Keith Urban was amazing! Not really a bad seat in the house! Quick but thorough security check at the door. Easy ticket scanning to get in. Prices have gone up with inflation, but that is to be expected. I definitely recommend Van Andel Arena!!

The seats are little, and I always feel like I'm going to fall down the stairs. The climb is so steep. Every concert you see at least one person miss a step and slide. You can see pretty good from any seat. That's a plus. Also, it's always SO hot!

The presence of God filled the whole arena. It was wild. God loves western Michigan and has so much in store for this region!
Practically, the arena is great for events such as concert and conferences. The sound is crisp if done right, the echo isn’t bad, bathrooms are good, and the food options are mid. The one bad thing about the food is that there’s no gluten free or dairy free options.

First time going to Grand Rapids and being at the arena. The seats are a bit tight if you’re a little bit bigger like I am. The outside of the arena looks very nice with an all glass exterior for the front entrance. Lots of concession stands with lots of food and beverage options.

Visited for the Grand Rapids Griffins game. Venue was clean, staff was friendly and helpful. Large food selection from affordable in-hand snacks up to extreme stadium buckets. Merchandise was a bit pricey but no more than anywhere else.

Recently went to the Lindsey Stirling Snow Waltz concert here! I've been here many times over the years and it's always a great venue no matter what style of performance. The Lindsey Stirling concert was excellent. She is a truly talented and amazing performer! It seems there's nothing she can't do! Plus, she has a philanthropic heart and message! We need more of that!

This is my first visit to the arena. Nice place, I parked in one of the ramps and used the skywalk. That was a different experience, never put foot on the sidewalk or street. My visit was for a Griffins hockey game. For those that carry bags, purses, backpacks etc, don't. I didn't think to check the website. My family had to return to the car because of purses. Only 6 inch by 4 inch bags are allowed. Everyone goes through metal detectors. We found out about the bag thing from the staff at the door. Signage for that, or electronic notification with everyones e-tickets would have been nice. Fun time, Griffins won, Go Griffins!

Fantastic! Clean and convenient venue, friendly staff, parking garage was easy enough and close. Saw the Jurassic World show with the kids. It's also nice that they didn't have a bunch of advertisements outside the building to spoil the surprise, so my kids didn't know what they were going to until they were IN the arena itself. I look forward to future events.

The game itself was fun, the staff who run the food and merchandise tables are great. The security did nothing when I had a man behind me swearing left and right. The section was full of elementary kids and the swearing made it a violent environment, no one did anything and we left early because of it and it was $6 for one personal bottle of MTN dew. We ended up spending the last five minutes on the merchandise floor where I assisted people getting down from the stairs where there were no railings and no one assisting. For what they charge I expected a little better.

This place is great for concerts, perfect sound system, and seating was awesome too, to add the services and vendors were awesome
I truly enjoy 11-24... I'm finding lanes. And taking advantage of the opportunity out in the open field.... almost aced 22 twice in back to back rounds... this is my home course at this point... I'm learning to play low straight shots. Putting out here is tough if you can't hit 20 footers you are in real trouble... Grateful for a great course close to home

I really enjoyed the time I had here. There is soo much to see and explore, this is a very extensive recreation area. I will definitely have to continue to come back and explore. There are bike trails. Horse trails. Hiking trails. A lake. Many prairies. So much to choose from!

Ionia State Recreation Area has a nice, 3.65 mile easy to moderate hike around Sessions Lake. Make sure you follow the directions to the south side of the park to most easily find the trail. The trail is well marked overall. A little confusing in places where the trail intersects the disc golf course. The trail is not wheelchair accessible in several places, although on the north side of the lake, it is flat and either grassy or paved. On parts of the south side of the lake, a few areas have elevation changes of about 20 feet. Trails are well worn and maintained. We did step over a large downed branch. The one vault toilet used had no paper. The park map on the DNR website does not include much trail details, but you can pick up a map at the honor system payment shack or see the photo below. Photos include examples of trail markers and bridges. While we came Memorial Day weekend, this is a nice place all year.

This is a big state park with some historical buildings. We came to get the state park centennial geocache, so we saw an old school house, and another historical building across the road. There is a big area for horse riding. There is also a beach area and a boat launch.

Probably one of my favorite areas for astro photography. I wish the lot off Riverside Drive a dark sky park. I'll keep going despite the rules saying the park is closed.

Beautiful campground. Our site was shaded and secluded. People staying in the campground were nice (host seemed a little grumpy, maybe she's not a waver...)
When they say the length of the site, it doesn't mean they're accurate (we had a 50' site for our 43' fifth wheel and we were at the edge of the road with our nose). Tight sites to get in (couldn't have done it if the neighbors hadn't moved) and the tree branches were overgrown and rubbed all over the sides and roof).
The showers were funky. Like stinky hard water (everything is stained rust colored and the shower head was almost eaten through). The lights in the shower are on sensors that WILL cut off and not cut back on, no matter how naked you are 😆. We opted for no more showers after that- I'll find a truck stop, thank you!
Minus the incorrect site length, overgrown trees and terrible shower, it was a nice, quiet park. Great place to walk the dog and let the kids ride around.
