We came across this cute little place. The setup of the interior and exterior of the store was so cute and welcoming. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The jelly was excellent. Definitely recommend stopping by!

This place is AMAZING. Definitely worth the trip, just to buy pecans, but there is SO much more. All of the art work is just beautiful and very reasonable priced. I just went yesterday and am already ready to go back! Worth the drive to get there - and the staff is so friendly

First of all let me say that my that wife and I have been driving to Natchitoches fro Gonzales for five years now to pick up pecans and us and family, its a full day but we enjoy the trip. The pecans are good and the people are great. This year we purchased 30 lbs of pecans. Our last 10lbs were put in a plastic container as we do every year. Well this time they went bad within two weeks. I called and explained what happen to the pecans. The lady I spoke to got real offensive and said I should not have put them in a sealed container, she went on to say every time they sell pecans they tell you and give you a Boucher on how to take care of them, that didn't happen. I would really like to tell the people who owns Natchitoches Pecans I will never buy anything from you again, if for no other reason the don't care attitude what happen to my pecans, you were very rude.i going to send these molded pecans back to you.

We had the best time ever! Definitely our new family tradition for all the women in our family to come and stock up on holiday goodies and beautiful decor to capture the memories that we get to hang in our home and to pass down to future generations. AND THE PECAN BRITTLE !!! RUN don’t walk! It’s out of this world delicious!!!
Alexandra Harris — Google review
Great PERSONAL service. I live in a suburb of Houston and through conversations they sent my purchase of items to large to ship by one of the owners friends driving to Texas. I couldn't be more happy. If I'm ever in that part of Louisiana I'm definitely stopping in.

What? You say you can't find pecans around Natchitoches Louisiana? Well you ain't looking hard enough there right here, Little Eva Pecan Company! It's an awesome place awesome people will make you feel like kin! So welcoming and welcomed Miss Susan full of joy and stories could of stayed visiting all day. So much to see my favorite purchase was a hand painted dish towel with a pecan pie recipe on it and the homemade Pecan Brittle so delicious I should of got 2 of the big bags if your anywhere within a 100 miles you need to go here you will not be disappointed family owned and operated we'll be back next time! Although Melrose On The Cane was closed when we arrived, we did manage to take a few photos of the beautiful scenery overlooking the area.

Stopped in on our trip home from Natchitoches after the Christmas festival. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered all out questions. We saw the house were African artist Clementine Hunter lived. She was a remarkable woman. The third owner of the plantations wife Cammie Harris was a very work orentiented lady. She let writers stay there if the would work on their projects. The story goes that William Faulkner stay there and after his first day she asked him what he did that day and he said nothing. The next day he did the same thing and Cammie sent him on his way.
David Hill — Google review
This was a fantastic preserved plantation. Not one of the bigger ones, however it has a ton of history. It was also home to Clementine Hunter! There’s several of her works that you can only see here as well. The guided tour was excellent and very informative. I highly recommend the tour instead of trying to walk around and read the story boards. It’s well worth the money. It’s also the only way you can gain access to the big house.
Jason Buzzard — Google review
My husband and I had an awesome experience here and just loved the history and art work. Nancy was our tour guide and did a fantastic job. You can tell her heart is in this place. Highly recommend.

We had the best time touring this plantation. Our tour guide was a descent of the original family. A very peaceful place.

I enjoyed my time here. Great place to visit. The tour guide was very informative. I hope to come back and visit again.

Excellent tour of older, historic plantation home. Visited twice. Once during a tour of homes along the Cane River Lake and again for the 44th Art Festival. Lots of fun and loads of good shopping. Many people come and costs ten bucks to park nearby plus 5 to enter.
Robert Prejza — Google review
Wonderful antebellum plantation with plenty of original structures. Didn't have the oak tree lined entrance that most from that time period had but still very impressive. There were a few live oaks on the property that had to have been between 200-300 years old. Well worth a stop if you're in the area.

A unique and interesting experience not to be missed. They have a wide variety of items on the first floor and the second floor. I loved the old feeling of the store. For sure make some time to spend in the store and look around. Very much worth it.

What a great store! So many interesting things to find. I never walk out empty handed. And the shop upstairs is adorable!
Kimberly Barrett — Google review
Love the store! It was adorable and filled with a bunch of goodies. A kind woman downstairs explained that there was an upstairs section I could continue shopping in - I went upstairs and the young lady responsible for upstairs followed my fiancé and I around. It put a sour taste in my mouth and we left promptly. I hope that this was an abnormal experience, and doesn’t happen to anyone else.
Brandy Baker — Google review
My favorite store in my home town. All of my Christmas Ornaments are from here and some baking ware. Wonderful shop!
Autumn Cooper — Google review
The absolute best store on the planet. You can go to other hardware stores and they'll tell you they don't make that call me when you go to this one and they got it on the shelf

Super neat place that has a little bit of everything! Not your ordinary hardware store. Gifts, nick-nacks, serious hardware, Christmas decorations (located upstairs), and just about everything else you can imagine. A MUST when in town!

I usually shop at this store whenever i visit Natchitoches. I bought a beautiful Bundt cake pan and a lovely church snow dome.

I absolutely love this store, and we have to stop by every time we are in town. They have lots of unique gifts, as well as practical items like kitchenware, apparel, and their original hardware section. It’s a Natchitoches staple!
Museum attraction celebrating accomplishments by Louisiana athletes, coaches & sports stars.
First time going here in a long time. I was there for the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame induction. Inductees were roaming around here before going to the events center for the ceremony.

Oh my! Words could never truly express how Awesome the experience of being in a place like this! From the front door to the top floor, there is so much history and wonder. The gentleman at the front desk is really nice and helpful. The place is immaculate! And the walls are so awesome as well. I definitely recommend coming to this place when you get a chance to. So much to look at and so much more to learn. I'm glad my husband brought me here for my birthday!
Melissa Purvis — Google review
The museum has a very calming effect as a result of the way the light beams through the windows and against the walls. The visualization of artifacts from hard working athletes is very impressive. Time seems to stand still when you see the history of Natchitoches; displaying artifacts from the past.
Latrice Bayonne — Google review
Visited on a closed day. Truly enjoyed the exterior of this unique building. The inside looks great. Another visit, soon. Natchitoches is worth the visit alone.

Very, very very cool. To see all the Hall of Famers either from or played for a school in Lousiana is impressive. Beautiful building n a lot of info on athletes n history of Louisiana. A must when in Natchitoches!
My FIL told us many years ago that this was the most beautiful city he has ever seen while he drove an 18 wheeler. Well it took us about 30 years to get here but I am so glad we finally visited. One of the best places we stopped on our 16 day adventure through 5 states, 6 RV parks and 1,581 miles.

Tours & historical reenactments take place at this replica 1716 fort erected by French colonists.
Great replica of a French fort. All the staff is very welcoming and we've had a very good time learning about the history.
JitkaKac — Google review
You enter through the museum, just off Jefferson St. There is a $4 entry fee, but this includes the guided tour of the fort. The fort itself is a reproduction, built in the '70s from a 1700s map of the original. The reproduction is a few hundred yards from the original site of the fort, which is now private homes and Jefferson Street. You can opt for a scenic stroll down to the fort, or take a ride in the golf cart with the guide. Jeremy, the guide was very informative and congenial. He kept asking if we had any questions, but his presentation answered questions I hadn't thought of! A great historical presentation, with the latest updates from archaeologists and historians. I really enjoyed the short video of the fort's history. This was two hours well spent!
Steve Creech — Google review
Today was Christmas on the Cane at Fort St Jean Baptiste State Historic Site. It is replica of the original Military and trading Fort. The very knowledgeable staff was demonstrating life in the 18th century. They were dressed in period clothing demonstrating cooking, rifle shooting, blacksmithing and making fire. They also have examples of items that were traded such as furs and beads. It's a must see for all ages so mark your calendar for next year!!
CHAR — Google review
Very cool historic site for being so close to downtown, and the nature around it was beautiful. All of the staff and volunteers were helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the place. The grounds were much larger than expected, and it was all well-maintained. The only thing missing was a bookshop/giftshop!
Andrew Aggus — Google review
Really cool historical site / museum, where you can see an exact replica of the old Fort St. Jean Baptiste which was originally located not far from here. Even being a replica, the attention to detail put into the fort gives you an immersive feeling of what it was like being here over 200 years ago. The museum is small but has a few awesome dioramas as well as artifacts. No question that this is worth the stop and $4 entry.
J Armfield — Google review
All I can say is wow! Highly worth the stop. Only $4 per person and worth every penny. The replication gives a wonderful insight into the size and daily life on the fort. The employees there were super kind and informative even though we came in 30mins before closing on a Saturday. We had to get a crash course, but could have spent longer.
Micah Fernihough — Google review
Awesome experience ! The museum offers a nice video that gives a better understanding of the life in this area during the French colonialist time. We were really happy to discover the real size fort replica in which the colons where living. They have an original map of the fort and where able to build it like it was in the 18th century. It’s a must seen and a really well thought museum and ground.
Laetitia Monnier — Google review
Overall very great experience and the history was interesting to learn about. The staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions.
One suggestion I have though,is the tour guide they offer needs to be a audio one instead of slides on a website.
Definitely worth seeing.
Totally Compton — Google review
There was almost no traffic when we visited this historic gem. Staff was super friendly, the Fort was impressive (even as a replica), and the cost was next to nothing. Highly recommend visiting if you're into history.
James Inabinet — Google review
Super cute small museum very informative.really enjoyed. Small hike to Fort great experience good for young or old wheelchairs may have a little issue navigating the Fort itself. Truf is uneven. Dogs welcome on grounds not in the museum. Restrooms clean. The museum personal was incredible informative. Definitely recommend. Quick cheap fun.
One of the best experiences I’ve had. I drive over the road so I miss a lot of opportunities to see some things off the beaten path. I had looked at Gator Country and saw that the parking lot might fit a semi and if not I had a turnaround at end of road worst case. Well they allowed me and Leo (part owner) told me to park along the edge at the exit while I enjoyed the park. The animals are amazing to watch, hold and feed but it is truly the staff that stands out. You can watch them work and see they enjoy what they do. They are personable, helpful and extremely knowledgeable. Just a pure joy to experience this wonderful place. I’ll be back many times and will be telling all my friends. Thx Leo and all the staff !!
Chris Boring — Google review
Excellent place to visit. They were so attentive to my family and I. We received the VIP service I feel like. The owner was welcoming and suggested some things and we took him up on his offers including holding the animals during our visit. They care about the kids feedback and help their local community in different ways. We really enjoyed it.
Dina Mali — Google review
If you want gators you will see plenty here. It's the winter season so no gator feedings but we got to hold various reptiles and fed and brushed the sheep and goats. Staff is wonderful and full of information. I leaned so much.
Tamera Gray — Google review
Stopped here on an 8+ hour road trip. Saw it on Google maps, asked the kids if they wanted to hold an alligator and they screamed yes! We had the BEST time. We live in the desert so we obviously don't have gators. The whole family enjoyed this experience. There was so much to see and do and the very kind and friendly owner said they had plans for more exhibits and things to do, maybe even a splash pad some day. The staff was extremely friendly and kind. They offered to take animals out to let my kids hold with no hesitation. Plan this stop into your travels, you won't be disappointed.
Stephanie Medders — Google review
We’ve been to Gator Country twice and both times have been amazing. So much to do and see. My favorite part about this park is how toddler-friendly it is! I let my almost 2 year old run around the whole park without a stroller! It’s safe and well -maintained. Staff is amazing and very friendly! Must visit!
Priyansha Rohrbough — Google review
Nice people. We went bout 30 minutes till close, and the staff was really polite. They let us hold baby gators, snakes, and breaded dragons. Shared a lot of knowledge and tips about the animals they have on grounds. They even spoke about expanding the park and in turtles. We went when it was cooler, and they said the best time to come is in the spring and summer.
Dre C — Google review
So Incredible! The staff was amazing! The park was immaculate clean! You are invited to interact and feed every single animal! You can feed the alligators! Absolutely wonderful experience! Very highly recommend! Must visit!
Jimmy Partin — Google review
Fantastic stop that is worth the detour. A short 1 hr south of Shreveport / Bossier, this is a fantastic place to spend a few hours. Reasonable pricing, great experience seeing the variety of animals.
Alligators, Snakes, lizards, Guinea Pigs, turkeys, Emu, rabbits, tortoise, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, deer, (I’m sure there are a few more I missed).
For a family of 4 expect to spend about $50-$60 and have a good time with the kids.
Quinton Craig — Google review
Loved it! Been to many alligator exhibits and this is one of my favorite. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The admission cost was fairly inexpensive. This is the first alligator park where we were offered to purchase food to put on the end of a line of a bamboo pole and feed to the gators! What a great idea. We had a couple of hours of fun just walking around and feeding the Gators and other animals. Nice variety of exhibits.
April Ford — Google review
My family and I had the best time at Gator Country LA Alligator Park! All of the employees we’re so nice and excited to show us all of the animals! Sam was so knowledgeable and took great care in handling the animals! My favorite part was the swamp tour! Leo was so kind and made us feel so safe! He even offered to take a family photo for us! The tours are private so that you get the best experience possible. This was way better than having to go with a large group of people that we didn’t know! We went on a Wednesday and there was plenty to do for a few hours without having to wait in any long lines! If you are nearby, then I definitely recommending stopping in to this cool attraction!
Shania Moore — Google review
We went on a Thursday morning and were the only visitors there. All the staff are very welcoming! We got to hold a corn snake, a bearded dragon and a 4 year old gator. We also fed two deer and enjoyed all the other exhibits - emus, rabbits, goats, racoons and snakes. Amazing experience!
JitkaKac — Google review
This was a fun stop on a family vacation. My kids (7 and 9) really enjoyed it. We were there during the winter, so gators were not active. They were still around, just not doing anything and not feeding. Lots of other animals to interact with and see. It wasn’t very busy, so the stop was pretty stress free and interesting. Staff were very helpful and informative. Some of the information posters and the cage glass were hard to see through as there was a lot of hard water build up. Bathrooms were a little run down.
Jen J — Google review
This was our first time there and absolutely loved it!! The staff are awesome and the alligator feeding was my favorite because I learned so much about alligators. Then I learned more about snakes, lizards, emu's etc. They have a little of everything there. Being able to hold a alligator, iguana, and a snake was awesome! This place was a great find for us and you should not miss it if you are in the area!
David Tipton — Google review
Love this place!! I was here 5 years ago when it was under the original owner. Unfortunately he passed away however you can tell the new owners really love this place. They have made some new additions that are really cool. This is a must go to place for anyone curious about alligators. You can learn a ton here! They always have other animals here you can see as well. Be sure to purchase some feed to really immerse into the whole experience. I am definitely coming back when I visit Louisiana!
J Tux — Google review
We had such an amazing experience. The owner was so welcoming and friendly and even advised us what we should do first in order to avoid the crowds. My three kids absolutely loved it especially the part where they got to go in the water with the baby alligators. All the workers were attentive and informative. Cant wait until they bring their gators to Fort Worth in August. Will definitely be back for sure.
N A — Google review
This place was so cool! Spent a few hours looking at and learning about the gators and other animals they have here. It’s very clean and well kept - you can tell the animals are very well cared for.
Employees were polite, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about answering questions.

Superb Archaeological Interpretive Site! One can see the outline of the Presidio, see the marked features and go into the Archaeological Lab and view various artifacts in great displays. The Park Rangers & staff are very knowledgeable, professional and give an excellent program with on site tour. Be sure to walk the hiking trail to the Mission site on the next hill. Well worth the visit!!! Good job Louisiana State Parks Department!!!

Very pretty place to come with your family to learn some history and have a picnic
Overall was great to see outside. I could not get ahold of anyone for a tour inside. and we have been here a month for work . I messaged and called and texted and no reply at all.

It was awesome. We haven't been able to see it in the inside just yet. We always miss it but it'll be open on the 30th so we'll try to make it then.

So sad to drive there only to see it was closed. Looked really cool from the outside, lots of old buildings. If it’s going to stay closed, someone should change the hours online to closed for future people like us.

Botanical gardens, wildlife & a 225-acre lake are highlights in a state park that also hosts events.
Gorgeous park!!! Spent a couple of hours viewing with my family and it was great. Sadly, Louisiana is considering cutting funding for state parks and Hodges Garden will close without it. Please consider donating and fighting against the cuts so that we can keep our parks for tourism!!!
Rebecca Broussard — Google review
I hope that this park will find the funds to reopen. It's such a beautiful and serene Park. I especially enjoyed the herb garden . I stayed in a spacious one-bedroom cabin close to the lake shore. The cabin had a fully equipped kitchen. It was especially nice to have a flock of geese visit me every morning and every evening before their bedtime.
Donna — Google review
Beautiful view with nice amenities. Renting a cabin for a vacation or night away is a great idea for a family getaway. The "locals" are very friendly also.
Garrett Stelly — Google review
After looking at the pics and other info about Hodges Garden, I wish that I would've had the chance to visit it. It looks very serene and peaceful, the lake is very beautiful too. I'm sure that it had some good fishing but I could just get in a kayak or tube and just float around the lake enjoying the peace of being on the water. I would have loved to have visited the waterfall, I spent a summer in North Carolina and that's where I fell in love with waterfalls and their beauty. Very disappointed that it was a victim of budget cuts.
Geoffrey Rogers — Google review
Walking around the gardens you can see the past beauty of this, kinda like walking through an abandoned utopia, it's pretty neat. The areas that are kept up look amazing! But with limited staff and it's funding being cut they have had to abandon quite a few projects but that doesn't deter from the beauty of this place. Once upon a time this would have been a gorgeous place and it still is beautiful today
Mel (Official Moose Brand) — Google review
I LOVE this park for many reasons! Since it's located away from any major city, you can see lots of stars on a clear night. It's peaceful and quiet. The park rents out canoes and kayaks so you can enjoy being on the lake that's located in the center of the park. They have cabins, tent camping sites, and a primitive campsite (my favorite!) that's on an old airstrip. The gardens are BEAUTIFUL, especially in Spring when all the flowers are blooming. It's a great place to get away for a day or for multiple days. If you need to go to the store, there is a Dollar General within 10 minutes from the park in Hornbeck. If you haven't been here before, you should check it out and see for yourself! :)
Mary Broussard — Google review
I would have thought that the state would have done more to fix the place up.There was not as many flowers as I remembered and Flag Island was completely closed. Also the geyser in the middle of the lake wasn't working anymore. Its still very scenic, but the overall condition has been better. The entrance road is weathered and bumpy. My first trip here was 1966 and I've been back many times.Sadly, I won't be back.
Doug Jones — Google review
I was at the gardens back in 1981 as a child. At the time it was still run by the Hodges family/foundation. I just brought my husband and daughter July 5-7th, they love!
It is different now. The financial restraints of a state government run program are obvious but it is reassuring to see different features have been adopted by groups, organizations and companies. We saw two different features being worked on while there. Great work being done.
Flag Island is closed do to unsafe conditions. That was very sad. I loved that feature when I was a kid. But until they can find someone willing to finance the repair and cleanup, there isn't any going up there.
It was a great trip, beautiful gardens and the cabins are wonderful! The hard work being done by the limited staff and volunteers is terrific! Everyone we came in contact with were extremely friendly and helpful. Stop by and see the wonderful Kim in the gift shop and she can tell you all about the history of the gardens.
If you like history and want to read about the battle of Pleasant Hill this is a great place to stop. Very nice park kept up and maintained.

It was really neat to see how things were done not so long. Had a great time, but the kids didn't really understand.
Justin Morrison — Google review
This is a fun event that we try to attend every year. There are always lots of neat activities and things to see. It is obvious that a lot of research, thought and work go into this event.
So many of these events have gone by the wayside because they are considered a threat to our current unpatriotic, history and heritage destroying movement that is sweeping across our country. Wrong or right, history needs to be taught as it happened. Not adjusted to suit the whims of those in office or voicing their opinion. Life is not always fair. There are good times and bad times. We cannot focus on the negative but the positive. That is what shapes us into strong citizens.
The battles that were fought were fought by men and boys who believed in their cause. They were willing to sacrifice their lives for it. Today people are offended by silly things and expect the world to change for them. They would never survive on.a battlefield.
Thank you Pleasant Hill for keeping history alive and accurate. We appreciate all your work and look forward to next year.
Made the drive up from Lafayette for a day trip. Completely worth it. Spent several hours here. The grounds are great, trail is well maintained, museum is great too! There is also a video to teach you about it.
Nick the interpretative Ranger on shift was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He gave us a guided tour of the museum and even did a musket demonstration for our kids. This visit well exceeded my expectations and I plan to come back.

Wonder little museum! New to the area and was pleasantly surprised by this place. A small area that is rich in history of the civil war. They have a short walking trail (lacking large markers due to weather wear and tear but they are working on it). There are numbered markers which you’ll follow with a cool informational card. The card tells you what happens at each marker. Very relaxing trail and well kept up. Friendly staff and very helpful! There is a fee for entrance (which helps fund the property). It should be about $4 (cash or card). They do offer military discounts as well. Wonderful little slice of history and a nice trail to engage in and decompress! If it’s rained recently, consider bringing shoes you can get dirty but you should be alright!

Some of our relatives fought at this 1864 battle ground. The short film was informative but they reported that this film is the only copy. I hope they preserve it digitally before it ages beyond repair. The museum was full of artifacts, photos and information. Affordable for a family and worth the visit.

Nicely kept battlefield park for the 1864 Battle of Mansfield. Ranger was knowledgeable and friendly. We stopped with our RV and had a picnic and toured the historic site.

A very nice place to stop and learn about the battle of Mansfield. Really enjoy the 1 mile walking trail with the different stop that told about the battle. Just wish they would invest some time in taking care of the monuments were you can read them.

Off the beaten trail but worth a stop especially if you're a history buff. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Small but impressive museum that presents the battle in excellent detail. There's a pleasant walking trail that covers the battlefield, with markers describing what occurred.

If you love civil war history and looking to spend a bit of time learning about it. This is a great place that is definitely worth the visit!
We’ve been wanting to charter a sacalait trip for years and were finally able to. Living the Dream was recommended to us and we couldn’t be more pleased with the whole experience!!! Brandon was all around awesome and “Hammer” was the sweetest, hardworking deck hand!!! Their kindness towards all of our kids was definitely noticed and appreciated. The entire operation is top notch, clean facilities and friendly staff. Great trip, we WILL be coming back!!

We chartered “ Living a Dream to take us Crappie fishing. We had a great time and the guide worked really hard at finding the fish. They cleaned the fish really well. It was an enjoyable experience. We are definitely going to charter another trip with them.

Best fishing charter service I have ever experienced. Our guide genuinely wanted us to have the best fishing trip possible. He was prepared and extremely knowledgeable about the lake. Was also very patient with anyone in our group who was not an experienced fisherman. Our guide was great. I wholeheartedly recommend this charter service and we'll definitely be back

I don’t know how to express how thankful we were for choosing Living the Dream Guide Service. We are first time visitors to Toledo Bend and expected the fishing to be challenging. A year of drought and timber on the lake seemed intimidating. Brandon O’Neill made those factors unimportant. His knowledge of the lake and conditions was excellent. His patience with my shortcomings (cancer survivor trying to get back into the swing of things) his quick switch from different rigs led us to enjoyment of the experience. We have used guides before in salt and fresh water and he is as good as any. Recommended without question!

Fished for crappie with Captain Michael Shanley on December 14 with my son and his girlfriend. Captain Michael exceeded our expectations! His knowledge of the lake and use of electronics made our experience one that we will not forget anytime soon! Captain Michael made sure that everyone on the boat was in the correct position to catch fish! We ended up with a box full of better than average crappie, I've been on a lot of trips prior to this one and can't expect to repeat the quality of this trip on future trips but I can guarantee that Captain Michael will give it his best shot! Looking forward to booking our next trip with LTD and Captain Michael! All around top class operation!

Had an AWESOME time! We did a half day charter, due to my dads health we stay out for a couple of hours. 17 fish in less than two hours. I highly recommend Cooper. He was very professional, polite and friendly. Everyone with Living the Dream was very friendly and helpful.

We bought this fishing trip from a silent auction for St. Joseph Elementary and High School in Plaucheville, La. It was amazing. Our guide JT was super friendly and cracked jokes with our kiddos the entire fishing trip. The boat and facility were clean and well maintained. We could not have asked for a better experience and enjoyed our time with LTD guide services. We can’t wait to return.

Mrs Gail and JT have a first class operation. Don’t waist your time messing around with low budget guides. LTD set us up with Cooper and he put us on the fish. The following day we rented one of the pontoon boat’s and cruised the lake. Nothing but great memories with the family.

We’ve gone fishing with LTD for 7 years in all kinds of weather. Their guides work hard to give you the best experience possible. Michael Shanley put us on some slabs yesterday despite the tough bite. Thanks also to Cooper for everything he did. We’ve already booked next year and look forward to coming back.

LTD is the best! We have been fishing with JT and Dustin every year the last few years for our company retreat and it’s always a great experience! JT treats the ladies’ boat like Queens and makes sure we’re having fun and catching lots of fish! Dustin and our guys have become friends over the years and they have a great time! The new marina is so nice! We will come back year after year and recommend them to everyone!

Peaceful location, great for winter camping to get away to quiet. No cell service with t mobile and no Wi-Fi in camp ground but is available at cabins. Beautiful sunsets.
niki — Google review
For those who are wondering about the upstairs in the cabins:
There is no bathroom upstairs. There is no closet upstairs. There are two twin beds with mattresses that felt like sleeping on logs. The master bedroom has an equally firm mattress. Surprisingly, the most comfortable sleep was on the pull out bed in the sofa. The pillows were also not comfortable. The white comforters were clean and surprisingly warm. The stairs are very dimly lit coming up, but pitch black going down.
The downstairs did not have a dishwasher and the review mentioning the highly scratched nonstick skillet was accurate. The wifi was down during our stay, but the cell phone service was 1-2 bars the whole stay. The steps going to the cabin door are very tall.
Beautiful cabin in a beautiful setting. Gorgeous views!

As of mid February 2023, the following are not disclosed ahead of time online before booking cabins:
- Wifi is unavailable in all cabins.
- Drinking water is hazardous due to a disinfectant byproduct.
- One of two hiking trails are closed.
- Ice is unavailable at the front office.
- Playground and picnic area is closed due to maintenance.
- A $40/pet fee is required on entry paid by credit card only even when specifically booking a pet friendly cabin over the phone.
- Towels are provided for 2 days worth and must be traded out at the front office for new ones
- You are expected to sweep, mop, and take out trash before checking out
This is by far the nicest state park cabin we've stayed at as they have been renovated recently and their maintenance crew is phenomenal. The grounds are exceptionally well maintained and I don't think I saw one piece of trash on the ground the entire time.
That said, there are some annoyances to be aware of. If you bring a boat, you'll be required to unhitch it every night as you're only allowed 2 parking spots per cabin. One for your trailer and one for your truck.
Coffee machines are provided but filters are not. Salt, pepper, sugar, and paper towels are also not provided unlike other parks we've stayed at.
The aluminum pots provided no longer have flat bottoms so they are quite unstable to cook on the glass top stove. The large nonstick skillet was scratched like crazy and should not be in use anymore while the small skillet looked perfect.
I will say, the electric stove is the fastest stove I've ever cooked on. It got water up to a boil very fast. The outdoor grill is not great. There isn't a way to open air vents underneath so there's no way to get your coals ripping hot for searing thinks like steak. I just wouldn't plan on using them unless you bring a grate you can pour the coals on to get proper airflow.
The utensils are adequate but the knives are as sharp as butter knives. We were smart and brought our own chefs knife.
The largest bed is a full sized mattress which is about impossible for 2 people to sleep on. We brought an air mattress and slept in the living area instead as we are much too tall for such tiny beds.
Speaking of being tall...the shower head is installed at a laughably low height. I think it would be too short even for someone 5'5". Taking a bath is not much of an option either as the tub only allows a few inches of water because the overflow drain is installed so low too. Miserable all around.
The ceiling fan in the living area can not be turned off.

A very nice and well maintained Louisiana state park!My family and I were able to hike the shorter trail, Dogwood Nature Trail 1.5m Loop, quite easily. The debris from the previous year's storms were tended to and we enjoyed this trail a lot! Afterward we went to the pool which is well maintained with very nice bathrooms attached. We're looking forward to going back to the beach area and to when the other longer trail opens up, hiking it too!

Evacuated at last minute to get away from Barry... decided to give North Toledo Bend State Park a try. This was our first time there. Very clean, showers and bath houses and also the camp sites. The staff was very pleasant to talk to. The walking trail to the pier was a nice little walk. There are cabins to rent as well as a group house that would make for PERFECT family reunions or meeting places. Was nice that there are washer and dryers for use for the campers. We didn't go into the pool but it was staffed with two lifeguards and it was big enough for many people to be in it at the same time. There is also a kiddy pool and storage cubbies to put your belongings. It was nice to know they offer outdoor church service on Sundays. We will be back with our kayaks and bicycles and fishing gear!
Awesome museum. They have a video that memorializes the Columbia space shuttle event and people with honor. Ask for a personal tour. Thank you to all those present and past.

Those in the area, or passing through, with any interests in space and science should check this museum out. This museum is dedicated in most part to the recovery efforts of the Columbia orbiter (and to its history of missions, starting IIRC from STS-1) as the area around Hemp Hill is where several portions came to rest and where much federal manpower was focused. The museum is not large, but for its mission is probably the right size. Definitely well worth a stop. The staff were very warm and welcomed questions.
Robert Lybarger — Google review
Great experience at the museum. Our tour guide, Belinda, gave us an amazing first hand account of what the history of Columbia was and also everything the town of Hemphill went through to get the crew home where they belonged. This museum is a stepping stone to what they hope will be a bigger and more proper memorial to this great ship and crew, so please consider a donation to help them in that effort. Also, please know that the website that the google maps listing has linked isn't correct. A google search will show the proper website further down the results.

Loved our visit here. We were tourists -- passing through -- and she opened up -- after closing hours!!! Just for us!! Luckily she hadn't left yet. Picked up some lovely collectables.
We stayed 2 nights at their Lodge Hotel. Nice clean comfortable rooms. Beautiful property with a golf course, pool, and restaurant. The restaurant was really spacious with a pool table and a large bar in the middle. The food and desserts were delicious for both our lunch and our dinners! (We would have eaten breakfast too however they only serve breakfast at this time on Weekends). They had outdoor seating that overlooked the golf course and had nice heaters for cold nights. The staff was really hustling and you could tell that they really enjoyed working there. The locals must eat there because it was packed every night. Supposedly bans play on the weekend. The property is expanding and is about to open an additional restaurant called Sammy Rays and also a coffee shop. A beautiful place that we will be back to enjoy again!

Restaurant Review Only.
Very few people(customers) sparsely scattered around when we arrived. Seated but sat for several minutes before anyone noticed we were there, same waitress across the room chatting. Tried putting in our Starter order to be asked if we knew what we wanted so she could "put it all in at once" um well No.. no we are not ready to order. After putting in the order we did enjoy the appetizer, fried ravioli- definitely nothing homemade but was tasty. Ordered a Ribeye and he got Surf & Turf.. with all the sides and a salad. Salad was great. Steak was ok. Sides were really really bad.. we both left our sides on the plate, so salty it burned my tongue (usually you can't salt stuff enough for me).. the Shrimp on his were supposed to be grilled- they were blackened- he doesn't eat blackened season so the Shrimp were left. We basically paid 150$ to eat 2 steaks and 2 house salads. Was really hoping it was better than last time because the Stump is about all we got to go hv a good steak & shrimp.. but we will keep going to the Stump- 3rd times a charm. 3rd time this Summer we paid to much money for pretty much nothing.

My review is to inform others of wanting to stay here at the lodge.
The lodge was pretty, the ladies at the front counter did a wonderful job making the special request sent via my fiance was fulfilled.
Unfortunately, we ended up not staying here because of misleading information on the website that we verified many times were correct before booking. We were met with understaning at the front desk when we asked to cancel/refund our reservation and were charged only a night.
I urge whoever is over the website to update and include that amenities listed (kayak, canoe, horseback riding) that are offered here are not yet available.
The only things that are all-inclusive about the resort are the pool, golf course, pickleball, and tennis courts.
Just want to save anyone else confusion. Would love to come back when said amenities become available.

I always enjoy going out to Rayburn Country Resort! They are always upgrading and it is such a beautiful place! The outdoor bar/restaurant next to the Resort (Sammy Rays) is also such a fun and awesome atmosphere!
The Google maps pin showed the RV park (I am trying to get it fixed, hopefully). The visitor center should be the first one you see on the right after you turn to S Broadway St from Hwy 21. The pretty neat museum is there and you can get a trail map as a guide for the walking trail. There's a swale (old cart track), but it was covered by bushes so I didn't take any photos. You can follow the spray painted arrows once you cross the road following the trail map.

A unique historic site with a great story and super friendly and helpful staff! The exhibits are well thought out and offer something for the entire family. Mission Dolores is well worth a visit if you haven't been and worth another one if it's been a minute since your last visit!
Scott McMahon — Google review
I visited Mission Nuestra Senora De Los Dolores De Los Ais in San Augustine. My ancestors visited this mission and likely married into the local Indian Tribes. The ecclesiastical records of Mission Delores have been lost to time. But we know the Ais Indians were free spirited and resisted conversion to Christianity. Thus the purpose of the mission, to bring Christianity to the Indians was a failure in the eyes of the Spanish Crown.
One interesting archaeological find is that 80% of the European pottery found at the site is French, indicating illicit trade with the French at Fort St. Jean Baptiste in Natchitoches. This fits with the long history of illegal smuggling of goods, cattle, and even slaves across the Texas-Louisiana Border along the El Camino Real.
Mission Dolores was a Spanish mission built in 1721 in what is now San Augustine County, just 20 miles west of the Texas-Louisiana border. The site tells an important history about the Native American experience with Texas’ earliest European settlers. Today, there are no historic above-ground remains of the mission. The mission site has been confirmed by archeological investigations and historical records. Mission Dolores is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a designated State Antiquities Landmark. El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail also passes through the property. Visitors can explore the site’s history at the museum where interpretive displays tell the story of Mission Dolores. The property also has a campground, picnic area, frisbee golf course, and group pavilions.

RV park review
We had a wonderful time here the park was well maintained and you can clearly see the effort to keep the park running.
We were a little concerned with the housing authority next door just not know what to expect, but it was pretty quiet and no issues.
There was distant car noises but a lot quieter than some RV parks we've stayed at and I had some wonderful good nights sleep.
The hookups all worked as it should and we enjoyed the picnic table and grill.
Making the reservation was a little difficult as I called and no answer. I did send an email and got a response right away.
I want to leave instructions for those coming here and you're from out of town and not familiar with the park. When we arrived our GPS took us to the park office/museum. We quickly found ourselves in a bit of a mess as we are a 33ft 5th wheel but glad that we were able to get ourselves out.
The RV park is across the street from the museum there's the housing authority entrance which is houses or townhouse and right next to that is the park entrance. We were able to get help at the office and check in.
After a long drive and wanting to arrive we were a little frustrated with the process and not knowing where to go.
I know Mission Delores just went through a renovation and maybe they can implement a better reservation system online and provide some better directions to those arriving.
Also put a sign for no RV's to enter the museum.
Once you figure it all out it's very easy.
We truly enjoyed our stay the park is well maintained and we enjoyed walking around and learning. We stayed 4 days but wished we had the time for more. Our pup loved it here she spent all her time wanting to be outside and when she was inside she spent her time looking at the window.
Thank you

This was the closest to mother nature I could get without being on private property. Pretty chill walk.l, really relaxing.
It is a beautiful park and a great getaway. There aren't many amenities, but that also means it's not as crowded as other places. You pay at an unmanned paystation at the entrance after first driving in and selecting your site. The restrooms were a plus, and within easy walking distance of the single camp sites. I'm not sure if there is a restroom near the group sites. There is currently construction blocking a few foot bridges connecting Loop A with the brook and lake area, which kind of sucked, but we just drove over there instead. I'm looking forward to going back once all the construction is done. The hiking trail is awesome too!
The website doesn't have pics of the sites, so I'll post one here. Tent pad, fire pit, bbq pit, picnic table, and food/trash hook. Drinking water spickots are strategically placed at convenient spots. No firewood or anything for sale. You either arrive with what you need, or you forage. The closest corner store for ice is about 10 minutes away, so not too bad. However, the store is on the edge of a dry County, so you'll need to go north another 15 minutes to buy beer.

Beautiful little park. Just what I campground should be if you are looking for primitive camping yet nice facilities and trails that are good for all ages. Beautiful little place in the National Forest. Self pay when you enter, camping is $10 a night or $5 for day use. Nice natural springs and rock to explore and swim in or you can go out to the little lake. Showers and bathrooms. It's beautiful out here and one of our favorite places.

I came here yesterday for my first time camping, and had a great time. The spring and lake are gorgeous, and the campsites are nice. It sits in Angelina National Forest, which is so beautiful and calming. There is a camp host who drives around and checks to make sure everyone is OK, which made me feel more comfortable.
I do wish they had more hiking trails. There is just one sawmill hike, which isn't marked the best. For only 10$ I think it's a great place to camp. Day entrance is free if you don't want to camp. There are bathrooms that were clean (a little run down, but its the forest, so just happy to have a bathroom). There is also a Dollar General and few Gas Stations about 9 minutes away in case you forget anything.
The little waterfall and bridges are gorgeous. Highly recommend.

Mostly flat trail, but with a few steep inclines, intermittently that could cause some strain to stiff ankles and bad knees. 4 older, but stable small wooden bridges and one sketchy “balance beam” type crossing. Takes about 2 1/2 miles to get out to the old sawmill, but if you’re not looking to do a 5 mile round-trip hike, there is a nice 1&1/2 foot waterfall next to the trail, about a half mile from the start of the trail, which would be a nice goal spot for tiny hikers and young kids. Bring more water than you think you need, and we suggest sunscreen, because it is mildly shaded. The trail is poorly marked at the very beginning. When you leave the parking lot and cross the bridge, go to the left at about 10 o’clock towards the bush line, and you should see a break in the bushes, with a sign for the Sawmill Trail. It leads you across some concrete cobblestones in a creek, and then to the right directly through the middle of a campground with tent-pads. It feels sort of weird walking between people who have their tents set up, their picnic tables laid out, their trucks parked there, but if you keep walking across their campsite, you should eventually start to see a tiny one-person-wide trail. That’s it, no sign, and it’s a while down that trip before you start to see markers nailed to the trees. Keep going until you hit the road crossing and see the trail start sign, and have a good time! There are distance markers about every 3/4 of a mile. When you get to the dead end at about 2&1/4 mile, and the trail splits to the right and left, go to the right, that gets you to the sawmill quicker. Back behind the three main buildings, there is also a section with 20 small pillars/pylons that are fun to climb.

This is a slice of heaven. I've knocked some stars off because we went on family Day (Wednesday) and I could swear that in family day you paid by car, not by person. Also I went to the source of the water and it's so clear and beautiful, white sand at the bottom. It made me wonder why the water a few feet down was so green you couldn't see a foot below the surface?
Either way, it's a natural spring that feels amazing in a heat wave, that was built by the government and I wonder why it's in private hands. It should be open to the public given the group that built it. Privatization of the natural resources God gave humanity. God love us!
Absolutely no pets allowed because they poop but the dear poop and that's alright. Maybe I'm just crazy but hypocrisy just is rampant.

The place is beautiful. The water is good and cold. The caretakers are strict about the rules. Such a beautiful piece of land. We love to go for a small walk/ jog. It is being completely surrounded by nature while being in the middle of town. An absolute beautiful place to spend a healthy, dollar-free afternoon. Also, a really safe and great way to work-out toddler energy.

My wife and I and our 2-month old came up to the area for the weekend to enjoy ourselves in nature away from the hustle and bustle of big city life. The Azalea Garden was the first green space we visited on our trip and it did not disappoint. The azaleas were obviously not in bloom in late July, but the winding paved paths through the garden (perfect for a stroller!) gave us our first concentrated dose of Piney Woods, Texas. We even discovered a new tree that blew us away. We'll let you figure out what it is. Here's a hint: It's a special type of bald cypress.

I came from Houston to visit this place by searching on Google Maps. We entered by an one-way entrance which we had missed twice (that means we had made two rounds). The third time, thanks to a very kind man from the SFA Ground and Transportation in the nearby that we could find the way to get in there. Once we were inside, we saw some other parking lots on the other sides of the park, that meant there were other entrances, larger and easier to drive. If only Google Maps would have shown we the other way! This place is very nice, peaceful and plenty of beautiful flowers, but I am sure that many visitors from other places would miss out because it is too hard to find a way to access. That would be a shame since it is one of the most beautiful sites of Nacogdoches to visit.

Lovely stroll in beautifully maintained gardens! Many markers to read and learn about the varieties of azaleas and other plants, and out of this world beautiful in the spring (in March). Could easily spend an hour meandering on this highly shaded walk.
Can be easily walked with little effort. Some areas are wheelchair accessible, but not all. No bathrooms near park, so plan ahead. Plenty of benches to sit down and enjoy the scenery.
Also connects to the shade garden at SFA as you cross the river on the bridge.

This garden is a must see for azalea season! It is really beautiful! I posted some photos I took while there. There is parking inside the garden. The entrance is hard to see and is flanked by huge azaleas. It is a narrow 1 lane path, but the area opens up to a small lot. There is also parking just up the street near the SFA Transportation and Grounds bldg. The path is asphalt and the majority looks to be wheel chair friendly. We saw the majority of the garden in about 2.5 hours strolling, chatting and taking photos.I didn't see any picnic tables, but there are lots of benches throughout. The garden is always open, is dog friendly and there is no fee to visit. There are no restrooms.

We LOVED this garden with trails! What a treasure…we will be back! It is a well kept botanical garden with many seating areas for reading, relaxing, visiting, or picnicking. We loved the variety of plants that they grew.
Elizabeth Webb — Google review
Compact, lush garden with meandering walking paths and sitting benches scattered throughout. While not big, there's plenty to see if you're willing to be interested in plants & greenery. In spite of being bordered by University Drive, little of the traffic noise permeates very far into the garden. The overall impression is of quiet solitude. On a weekday morning there were just a few other folks strolling the paths. It makes for a quiet retreat in the midst of the city.

Absolutely one of my favorite places to get my exercise start for the day. It doesn’t matter what season we are in , it’s a beautiful peaceful place to walk , talk, workout. One of the beautiful things about Nacogdoches.

Easily walked paths, lots of "hidden" points/areas of interest. Wide variety of plants and types of scenery to be enjoyed.

Great history enjoyed The Visit

Small museum located on SFA's campus. It talks about the history of the building itself and the history of Nacogdoches. They have some interactive stations for kids to check out. Payment to see it is not necessary, but they take donations. Nice place to learn a little history.

Came to visit. It was Easter everything was closed. Campus was empty. Gardens were beautiful though

Pretty cool building on the SFA campus. Easy to tour, very informative. Lots of cool items on display. A definite must see for the history buff & students alike.

Interesting collection of history here.
Brian Caldwell — Google review
The Museum seems to be lacking much focus, as the exhibits were haphazardly presented, didn't have much by way of a throughline, one to the other, and the two staff, while friendly and earnest didn't know much about the fort itself or the original building it was a replica of.

Nacogdoches is a city rich in Texas history. The old stone museum is nice to tour located on the university's campus.
Danny Quint — Google review
Call ahead to make sure it's open. It's manned by students, so it may be closed when students are on break. It's an interesting building, on a beautiful campus, and entry is free.

The Stone Fort Museum is full of historic artifacts to read about, such as it being the place where the first newspaper in Texas was published.

Drove all the way to Nacogdoches one Sunday, the two or three places that we wanted to visit are not even open on the weekends what a wasted trip

Great place to visit as an adult, I remember going when I was in elementary school. Staff were great and helpful. The kids got to use actual typewriters which they had never even seen. Only thing missing was the gift shop. I was hoping to get another canon pencil sharpener like I did when I was young.

I brought a group here for a tour and was very impressed! It's small but interesting, and our guide was very informative. I'd love to go back to take more time to look through the exhibits!

Nacogdoches Historical Scavenger Hunt brought us here. The history and tour kept us. It was really nice to learn about the families involved in the development of Nacogdoches. You can have a guided tour or just get a quick lesson about the families and walk theough. We both really enjoyed seeing the entire site! I spotted the error in the painting...

I wish we had gotten here earlier! We had about 75 minutes, which was adequate, but we would have loved to have spent more time. We tried to go into the gift shop to buy some gifts at 4:53, but it was already closed and locked, so if you go, be mindful that they actually close before 5 pm! Otherwise, the facilities are so lovely. My kids (boys ages 1, 6, and 8) thoroughly enjoyed it and were engaged the entire time!

So much fun. I took the baby for Halloween. She had the greatest time. We went on a hayride, petting zoo, rode a horse, and bouncy castle. There was a headless horseman walking around. The cabins were decorated to walk through. It was so magical.

My sister and I came here to check it out. I had never been to Nacagdoches before. We both love touring historical and old homes. This is a small village with several houses and places to look through. It shows how they lived back in that era. I absolutely loved finding this place. You can plan a tour with a guide for $20 or be on your own for $10.

Great place to take a little walk and see some History. There's 3 old houses, a few cabins, a general store and much more. It's free to walk around and they do have guided tours.
It was over 100 degrees today , but some of the buildings are air conditioned so we were able to cool down.
The grandkids loved it.

I've seen numerous small Texas towns and cities display themselves as historical. But, Nacogdoches, Tx stood head and shoulders above them. On a recent visit I decided to take a walking tour at night. The shear historical recognition by the local community was commendable. As, a Texas resident I realized I had missed a gem. I highly recommend visiting Nacogdoches, Tx.

So many interesting places to visit.
You really need to go inside. So much history.
No matter how many times I come, I always notice something else to learn.
Logging-focused museum with hands-on exhibits, old equipment & outdoor trains, plus a gift store.
We found this museum during our road trip to Houston. Kids had a great time there.
Inside is very clean. Many activities for kids, especially for little transportation fans. (There are many cars, trucks indoor. ) There are also many trucks/trains outdoor. (But mosquitoes in summer)

Really interesting smallish museum which we visited on our recent trip down to Houston. Some exhibits inside which talk through the history and jobs involved in the forestry business with old.ohitos and equipment from the past. There is also good reference to the inequality in pay and jobs available for Women and people of colour in the early years and the segregation. Outside there is a steam train showing what would have been used and some additional equipment from the past.

Came here for my nephew's birthday party. It was almost a 2 hour drive, but it's a cute little museum with some interesting history to learn from it. I bought some postcards, stickers, a fridge magnet and a t-shirt.
There are pamphlets for scavenger hunts, sketching, etc, and plenty of activities for young children to enjoy as well. There is a play room where kids can make names or pictures with wooden pegs, make poems on a magnetic board, dress up like a fireman, or dress up in vintage clothing and play house. I would absolutely recommend bringing your children here, and checking out the gift shop too.

Our homeschool co-op had a field trip here recently. The young ladies teaching our kids were kind and informative. All the items to walk around and see were very interesting. My kids absolutely loved the dress up area, and pretending to be on the prairie. They also really loved going out to the real train, getting to go inside everything and explore ❤️

We only had an hour so definitely not enough time to check out the trails. We plan to go back. Very interesting history and present day findings. It’s free but take donations. So if you want to take a class or small group on a budget, this is the place. They even have a room for kids. Check it out.

Love this neat place. My son and I can play in the kid zone for more than two hours every week. I especially love that most of the toys were made by staff in the museum and are kind of Montessori style. The staff make a great effort to keep the museum clean, fun, interactive and educational. The outside display is great too.
Rhinos, big cats & many other species plus educational programs in a leafy 15-acre spot.
A really, really nice little Zoo located on the loop on the North side of Lufkin. They have around 800 animals at this Zoo that are also located by a lake and Park. Also included is a miniature train much similar to the Houston Zoo. Although not at big it more than makes up for it with the beautifully landscaped grounds and amenities. They have a refreshment stand, gift shop, and conveniently located restrooms. It is well laid out and you can complete the tour taking your time in around two hours. Lots of shade trees, fountains, and benches. They have Alligators, Flamingos, a White Rhino, Giraffe's, Hippos, which is why we went because our 6 year old wanted to see Hippo's. The Houston Zoo no longer has them! They have many different kinds of birds, Parrots, Macaws, Emus, Eagle's, King Vulture's, Kookaburra's and other including a healthy population of Peacocks and a couple of Albino Peacock's. They have a reptile house with a lot of snakes, lizards, turtles, poison dart frogs and others. It's a lot to see in a small setting and very well worth your money and time. The prices are very reasonable and your kids will really enjoy it. I've been through Lufkin many times and heard of it, but this is the first time we went just for the Zoo! I highly recommend it!

Very nice zoo. Although it's small, they have alot of critters. Great entrance fees. It is nicely landscaped, with large trees that shade the walkways. Plenty of rest areas with benches, tables, chairs and all covered. The train wasn't working. Nice lake with walking trails, picnic areas and playgrounds.
Karen A. — Google review
Pretty and a good variety of animals. Does have Giraffes and Rino’s, but No Elephant. No large apes. I don’t think the Zoo gets enough donations to house the large mammals in a VERY HUMANE WAY. So donate! The train ride is unique and cool on a hot day. Two huge pavilion’s to have parties.
Mari Miller — Google review
This zoo was fantastic! We went on a Monday morning and there was nobody there so we got to walk through almost by ourselves. They have a wide variety of animals like lions, tigers, leopards, giraffes, rhinos, turtles, peacocks, raccoons and even an indoor reptile exhibit with snakes and dart frogs and bats. Also they have a train that drives around for kids to ride and see the walking trail and everything. All the animals looked so hot but I did see employee's walking around actively feeding and even watering some of the animals to get them cooled down, so at least there's that. Can't recommend this place enough I had a great time.

I've been to a bunch of zoos in my life. This one was surprisingly small. But the experience was amazing! The peacocks and other birds just walking around by you. and your so close to all the animals. It was completely shady! It was definitely a different experience and I will be bringing my kids back again soon! We had so much fun!! Great price too!
It's the gift shop that gets you lol

This is a great little zoo in Lufkin. It costs $8 per person and should take about 2 hours to see everything. There is a train that costs an extra $2 per person but is definitely worth it, the train will show you around the general area. Along with a walking track around a little lake. I recommend the rear car on the train. An enjoyable experience for both young and old.

Perfect for a family day. We went on a Tuesday and practically had the zoo to ourselves. Zoo needs a little bit of maintenance but overall the walkways were cleared and all the animals were out. We especially loved the hippos and the bald eagle!!

Had a blast with my daughter. Recently moved here and despite being small this zoo is great! Has a great atmosphere, pricing is good, and looks like it's kept clean. The peacocks roaming around make for great photos. The train was closed for maintenance on the day we went though. :(

Absolutely love this zoo, still one of my favorites as far as zoos go. It has tons of cool animals and a very family-friendly layout. As a sidenote, the Spanish translations on every sign are absolute trash, like this one that says "please no barrier Cross" (as in the cross they crucified Jesus on) 😂

I've been going here since I was a kid and I take my kids here now. I hope it's still around for their kids too. Over the years things have improved and since things are the same. Love the 🦁 fountain and having the park to go to for parties. Truly a family friendly place for all ages. Prom pics would be lovely here too.

This was a great little zoo! Lots of animal exhibits lots of nice space and shade, all in all a great experience! Lol and there was a duck out front by the lake that wags his tail feathers like a dog! Super funny.
Michael Partridge — Google review
We visited this zoo for the first time recently on a Monday.
It was almost completely empty, so it was nice for us to be able to take our time reading all the info plaques, observing the flora, and interacting with the animals instead of fighting crowds.
We started with a train ride, which is about 5min long, goes on a track around wooded areas and a lake outside the zoo, and costs $2/pp. We enjoyed this, and saw other families getting on to ride a second time.
The zoo looks very small from the outside, but we were able to spend a couple hours walking around once inside. There are rules posted at the entry and they have free maps to take along with you. There's also a small concession stand as you enter; which is the only one available so grab your drinks and snacks before getting started.
Some of the animals we saw were kookaburras, sloths, komodo dragons, alligators/crocs, snakes, bats, parrots, emus, a lion, a tiger, and a leopard. There are also a great many peacocks/hens roaming freely all over the grounds. It was fun seeing them up close, strutting their feathers, and calling to one another. Every animal seemed to be healthy and in a clean environment. Don't miss the reptile house!
The paths are wide and flat; great for wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers. There are various places to sit and watch the animals, some areas are shaded. There were a couple of areas that also had tables to use (outside food is permitted).
Laura Lenau — Google review
This is a small zoo... many of the exhibits were empty. The animals were pacing, I think the enclosures were too small and there wasn't really anything in them to entertain the animals. This zoo has so much potential so it's a real shame.

This is definitely a smaller museum, but it is worth a visit! It had many learning opportunities while remaining fun for younger kids. The model dinosaurs and space exhibit were great for our preteen, and even our toddler enjoyed the layout and movement of the exhibits. The price is very reasonable and we spent just the right amount of time exploring.
I was told they prefer you purchase tickets at the counter instead on online, which was no problem since there was no wait when we entered.

20 years ago, it was probably a nicer spot. Now, none of the video presentations work, the lighting is poor throughout, with it being very difficult to see many of the artifacts inside the dark glass cases. The collection is ok (not outside the norm of what you could find at moat county or town history museums), but the presentation needs work

I love this museum- all the Dinosaurs are wonderful and Dr. Naranjo and his family and many friends dug most of these dinosaur bones themselves.
Dr. Naranjo will give you a tour if requested or a lot of the time he’s at the museum and will tell you all about the dinosaur bones.
Bring your family and children.
They also do Birthday parties at the museum. Great fun for all the family

Perfect small museum for dinosaur lovers that don't want to drive 2 hrs to a big city. Surprisingly full of exhibits for a small building.
