Mystic Seaport Museum is a museum in Mystic CT that creates a 19th century whaling village in the former George Greenman & Co Shipyard. It has exhibits of traditional crafts and trades, demonstrations on such topics as ship rescue, oystering and whaleboat launching, and many artifacts from the past. The site is open year-round and provides a great opportunity for learning about maritime history.
Amazing place to learn about old ships and whaling industry. Very fun for kids and plenty of space for them to run around. Great level of access to ships and buildings

We had a wonderful experience at the museum! Quite a lot to see and do! We enjoyed the Charles W Morgan boat, the blacksmith shop (the gentleman in there was awesome. Very informative!), the cord building, and the boat tour. All the staff we interacted with was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this for families. We saw people of all ages enjoying the exhibits.

I did not expect to have such a wonderful time at this place. Staff is very friendly, and they are actively working in the houses throughout the village. You can see ships being maintained, food being cooked, coast guard personnel learning blacksmith techniques, and more. There are plenty of exhibits for kids to include an area to have them build a Toy Ship, a planetarium, a kids museum, playground, and acres to run around and be loud. For adults there are ships to board, curated museums full of history and much more. After you pay your ticket fee you have 19 acres and 40 buildings to explore, to include a gift shop, restaurant, and plenty of public restrooms available. There is a north and south entrance, each with plenty of parking available for free. This is the best thing I've done in area, and would gladly come back!

Amazing place. Spent a whole day there with our 3 kids. Great exhibitions, fun on ships. Educational and fun workshops all around.
Maria Blum — Google review
I recommend buying tickets online to avoid any waiting. Also, combining Mystic Aquarium with Mystic Seaport museum and village is cheaper than buying tickets separately.
It's a very interesting place, where you could easily spend at least 3 hours. There is a LOT to see - you can visit any house in the village and see how they lived and worked, talk to the people who demonstrate different types of work that was done in the village (making huge ropes, boats, medicines, watches and clocks, etc). I liked the whaling museum! I loved how they told us about printing!
The lighthouse inside had a movie, telling a story of lighthouses in America.
And much much more...
Definitely recommend to visit! Great place for families with kids!

What a wonderful museum. Stopped here by chance when driving by and couldn’t be happier. The town is amazingly cute and the museum is easily the best I’ve ever seen. Just down the road a bit from mystic seaport and the whaling ships this place is a must see. Clean and expansive with incredible artwork and artifacts. It includes four full whale skeletons (including sadly a baby) and a plethora of whaling artifacts. The piece de resistance for this museum the scrimshaw room. I’m a fan and fairly knowledgeable and have seen what I suspected was the largest collection in the world this is even bigger. It has to be the largest single collection in the world. Just the accessories made of whale bone were extensive but there was an endless number of incredible scrimshaw teeth by all of the best known artists of the whaling period. You will never see such a collection anywhere else in the world and at the value these fetch there will never be a bigger collection built. If you are in cape cod area and have an interest in healing bring your family here. Even at a fast pace this place has hours of enjoyment for everyone.

100% worth the trip!
When going to the museum, I wasn’t sure what to expect.
This museum is sprawled out on about 19 acres and over 20 something or 30 I don’t know buildings. It is massive!
A very cool experience, and great for the whole family!
Staff was amazing

It’s a great place to learn lots of history. Well preserved museum town. Initially I thought I wasted spending for this place. But as I enter each museum rooms, it was very interesting. Great way to learn about the past of a port town. Lovely demonstration by the volunteers in each stall. Worth the visit. Needs at least 4 hrs to cover. Easily you can spend whole day.

Mystic Seaport Museum is a great place to visit. Very historical and very educational. Lots of good preserved old ships and buildings. For sure you can taste pure history. Free parking lot on the side, adult admission about 25$. Restaurant and gift shop. Highly recommended

We absolutely loved everything about this wonderful museum within museum. So many fascinating little sea cottages, each telling their own story. A few little nosh places, opportunities for boat rides on the Bay, a make your own wooden boat bungalow, so much to learn and see! Make sure to give it all day! And you can come back within the next 7 days with your receipt!!!
Sanda Bailund-Vana Wolk — Google review
Great place to spend an afternoon. I really enjoyed the extras that change with the days. We saw a fish cleaning demo and it was really interesting. The big band live music the day we visited really drew a crowd of locals. Bringing your own chairs is a good idea if you're coming for the music. Lots to see all in one visit, I can see why the tickets are valid for two days. If you come on a nice day, you can take row boats out and for a small extra fee get a ride on an old ship. But go book that right away or it will be filled up.
Natalie Koffarnus — Google review
This is a really neat seaport to check out, just make sure to give yourself plenty of time to walk around, there's a lot to see! I enjoyed the way they laid it out and how you can walk around at your own pace to the various buildings and museums. The exhibits themselves are also set up really well to tell you a story as you walk through. Very well done. My only issue was that besides the staff you see when you buy tickets to get in, there were no other staff walking around or in any of the museums. So if you had any questions or wanted to know more, you were on your own. I'm not sure if that changes once tourist season starts, but it was the biggest thing I noticed. There were also a few exhibits that were closed when I went.
Alice Beamer — Google review
Mystic Seaport Museum is a snapshot of a moment in time, a look back at the era of whaling, and a reality check of just how recently that era faded into the past. The historic buildings are beautiful. The amount of care that went into that architecture is wild. Most of the buildings are authentically from the 1800s, including some that have been moved onto the grounds from other locations in the northeast. The result is stepping into a time capsule of the heyday of the whaling era.
The "Museum" is active and alive, with regular demonstrations of things like their mid-1800s blacksmithing shop, their original printing press, and even demonstrations of things like rope making. The volunteers are well-informed, friendly, and happy to teach you something new. Make sure you check out the daily calendar to find out what demonstrations will be going on that day. I do wish they had printouts of the day's schedule instead of just telling you to take a picture of the sign. (Tip: Make sure you favorite that picture before it gets buried in your pictures of the museum!)
The whaling ship is gorgeous, truly a special piece of history. The lower deck still kind of smells... Like whale guts. Ninety years of whale guts. I can't imagine having been on that ship when it was in use. Make sure you stop to read the signs explaining things, you'll learn a lot. The firefighting boat was closed inside when we went, but it was still really cool to look at from the outside.
Most of your museum day will have you walking around outside, going from building to building with minimal shade. Make sure you wear sunscreen, bring plenty of water, and plan on a very active day. There is a cafe, but it's at the far end of the grounds and not exactly intuitive to get to early-on in your day unless you skip past a bunch of stuff and double back.
That said, I do have a few caveats for visitors with different accessibility needs, including people who use mobility devices like wheelchairs or canes, people who tire quickly (including the elderly or small kids), and parents with strollers.
1, It's a LOT of ground to cover. It's really spread out. Be prepared for a lot of movement or plan on spending two days if you want to see everything.
2, They've done their best to adapt some of the buildings to be accessible, but most of the buildings (and ships) date to the 1800s and there's only so much they can adapt a lot of that architecture. So a lot of things, like the whaling ship (arguably the main attraction) remain inaccessible to wheelchairs, walkers, & strollers. As it is, I was only just barely able to navigate some of the staircases with my cane.
3, Use the bathrooms when you come across them. They're spaced out weirdly and not the easiest to find when you're looking for them.
4, The entrance is nowhere near the exit. It doesn't matter whether you park by the entrance or the exit, expect a long trip at one end of your day. We parked by the entrance. In retrospect, we should have parked by the exit.
Still, overall it's definitely worth checking out and there's definitely a lot of things to fill your day with!
Kai T — Google review
There's so much to see here! Dress for the cold if you need to, because there's a lot to explore outside. You can easily spend many hours, or even a couple of days here, so give yourself some time to visit properly. The staff seem happy and are clearly enthusiastic about the museum and whatever area they specialize in. Exhibits include salvage and restoration projects, living history demonstrations, art and science, etc. There is some food services available inside, but I didn't stop at any. Holiday decor is classy and gave me ideas for my own historic home.

Great working shipyard. The tour is a must. Very interesting and informative. So much history in this outdoor museum. Beautiful old ships and interesting seeing ships being restored.

This is an amazing museum to experience first hand the great New England shipbuilding traditions in its authentic and historic context. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed spending several hours walking through the grounds and the shipyard. The Charles W Morgan was a wonderful wooden whaler ship. It was great that they let you walk up and go inside the LA Dutton that they are refurbishing. There is a lot of history in this area. We loved it!
Donna Smith — Google review
The museum is located on a beautiful piece of land. I'm surprised they open up at 10 am, especially during the summertime. My daughter and I had a wonderful time. I recommend offering a 21 and over hours only event, maybe once a month. Many individuals who were at the museum didn't seem like they enjoyed the sound of kids laughing and having fun.
Kristin Brown — Google review
The Seaport is awesome! We have been coming here since we were kids in the early 60's. There is always so much to see and do. It is a wonderful experience.
Denise Horn — Google review
We stopped here randomly on a road trip. It is a beautiful town, it wasn't their peek season but definitely worth seeing!
The Mystic Aquarium is a beautiful aquarium with a great range of species. It is especially well-known for its beluga whales, African penguins, seals, and sea lions, sharks and rays, fish invertebrates, and reptiles and amphibians exhibits. There are also many interactive features for children to enjoy.
Visited on 3-13-22. Small indoor aquarium with larger outside. It’s very very cold outside dress warmly! We have visited Aquariums all over the US. Loved it here. Very friendly staff. Thought tickets were pricy but part of proceeds go back to feeding animals so was happy about it that. Will be visiting again!
Make sure you see the sea otter show! It’s phenomena!

Went to the Mystic Aquarium and had a wonderful visit. Very educational and many interesting sea creatures to view and learn about. Many exhibits one can touch the animals, the visiting children were all ecstatic while learning about ocean life and conservation. A big shout out to the food prep there, I had a BLT that was really amazing! I highly recommend a trip to the Aquarium, quite fun.

We went for out first time as a family & it was worth the drive.
Once you walk in, they take your photo, for later you can order a keep safe memory.
The seal show was so cute, you're able to see the penguins swim through out the water. You'll see fishes, turtles, sharks, you can touch stingrays. They have an area for the smaller kids to play, you can have a boat race. Definitely a fun family day that the kids will enjoy.
Also they have a lot of parking ! And a gift shop.

Had a super fun time at the aquarium! So many different animals and the staff was so attentive and kind, always coming up to us and explaining information about the animals. Seriously super cool and definitely a must see if in the area! Pro-tip buy tickets days or weeks in advance!! They’re always more expensive day of.

Mystic Aquarium in CT exceeded all my expectations! It's an incredible place that blends education, conservation, and entertainment seamlessly. The exhibits are beautifully designed, providing a captivating and immersive experience for visitors of all ages. From the majestic beluga whales to the playful penguins, each animal encounter left me in awe. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate, sharing fascinating insights about marine life and conservation efforts. The touch tanks were a highlight, allowing me to interact with gentle sea creatures up close. The aquarium's commitment to marine conservation and rescue efforts is commendable. It's an ideal destination for families, friends, and solo adventurers alike. I had a memorable and enjoyable time at Mystic Aquarium, and I can't wait to visit again!

What a wonderful treat to see and experience! Excellent viewing above and below water. California Sea Lion show was quite amusing. Nice, contained space but not too small making you want more.
Michael Dawson — Google review
Spent a nice Friday here with my daughter. They had a dinosaur exhibit that was free that day so we got to explore that which I'll say was awesome, so many interactive games for kids and a playground inside. If it wasn't free that day we wouldn't have spent the extra to experience it however it made it such a unique visit (after I've been there about 4x now) so I'm glad it was an option and I'll likely think twice next time about spending the extra.
It's a beautiful aquarium and we really had a great time. Food options are nice there too. Staff is all nice.

It was spring break week, so a lot of families. First time visit and love the attractions of sea life. Staff was attentive and willing to answer questions. Unfortunately, I only had a few hours there, but I enjoyed our time immensly.

We went on a rainy day and it was amazing. We saw all the animals and my kids had a blast. The staff is friendly, kind and accommodating.
The animals are all very happy.
My sons really enjoyed the sea lion show.
Can’t wait to go back.
Antonia Buissereth — Google review
A very nice aquarium, with amazing beluga whales, sea lions and penguins all outdoor,as well as the indoor aquarium. Disappointing that for the steep price, the virtual reality experience, as well as the dinosaur exhibit has additional expensive prices. Mostly helpful and friendly staff. Could have been a more information to when show and feeding times are.
Dan E — Google review
A smaller aquarium but fun for all ages. A normal visit will be about one to two hours depending on what you want to see. Everything is nicely organized and usually not over crowded. It's a great time for the family if they have an interest in aquatic life, with plenty of exhibits and interactive ones.
Michael Amaral — Google review
Went here for a day trip and it was fantastic. The exhibits are wonderful and great for people of all ages. The aquarium was clean and the staff was friendly. All of the staff was so nice and genuinely seemed like they enjoyed their jobs. The staff was knowledgeable and great with younger kiddos. We arrived early which was good because the parking lot is fairly small for how high the demand is. It was $44 per person but you can spend all day there. The jellyfish and the touch tanks were the best in my opinion. Overall, we really enjoyed our trip and will be back in the future.

Oh my goodness! This is the best aquarium I've been in my life so far! I've been to a lot of aquarium Sea World in Australia and Florida and many places in USA this is by far the best so far I've been! It's an hour drive for us but is worth it! We watched 4D theatres twice inside Dino Seas which is seasonal from
Florida we have to pay extra! We came to mystic for free for me and my 3 kids under the Ct summer museum program for residents! We watched sea lions show indoor arena! We will have to find Africa penguins later! There's so much to do here! It's amazing!

Amazing. Lots for the kids to do and fun as a grown up too. The California Seals show was great, but so were all of the other features of the aquarium. There's a lot to do outdoors there too.
Rich Youmans — Google review
My first time at this aquarium, and it was amazing how they had plenty of rental wheelchairs, and most tanks were easily viewed from that level.
It was a lot of walking, and I have a number of injuries still healing. I was grateful for the option of using the wheelchair like a walker or sitting and being pushed when needed.
We LOVED the mermaid exhibit! My only comment would be that I ended up waiting in line twice because the woman sending people to wait at various windows sent my brother and I (our group) and then asked if it was okay if another group joined. I said I had waited half an hour to have the experience and to get a picture. She added three kids to our window anyway and the mermaid didn’t interact with my brother and I at all, just the kids. We got no picture and had to go back in line for another one.
Adults like mermaids too!!! By the time we got in like the second time I did get to interact with the mermaid but not a good picture because my brother had given up and was sitting across the way.
I was just disappointed is all. He came all the way from NY for this. We were so excited, and we just wanted to be treated like equals with the kids, in terms of wanting the experience.

Took my toddler and 7&9 year old niece and nephew there with my sister in law last Saturday. We had a great time. We walked around the tanks for an hour and then saw the sea lion show. It was a great activity to do to get out of the house in the winter. We reserved tickets through our EBT cards and the admission was free!!! Definitely a plus😁

We brought our oldest child for a preparatory tour/ sleep over at the USCGA and my youngest and I needed something to do. We found this place. It is absolutely amazing and totally worth the money.
We stayed for hours! If you have young kids make sure you splash out the extra 12 for the Dino thing...little kids adore it!.
The staff was professional, the exhibits were amazing, and we just had a fantastic time!

I was thinking of going somewhere fairly close , within an hours ride, to do something out of the ordinary. I came up with the Mystic Aquarium. I brought my 17yr old son along. I wasn't sure ifhe would still enjoy it as an older teenager but he really liked it, not in a way that a young child would but with a more scientific point of view as well as a healthy dose of teenage boy gross humor describing various fish and animals.
Gross descriptions aside, it's a great place to go to see fish from all over the world as well as the displays of local fish and wildlife.
There are outdoor exhibits with seals, penguins and Beluga whales. Indoors it has interactive exhibits ,where you can "pet" some of the fish as well as an outdoor tent where you can pet some Cow nose rays.
There is also a California sea lion show which was both fun and educational.
You can take your time while there but you have to purchase tickets in advance for a specific time. If you just show up like I did they have kiosks where you can pick a time and buy your tickets . Luckily for us there were openings for the time that we got there so we were able to go right in. It's such a big place that it probably could accommodate you when you get there but if you want to be safe I would go online and purchase in advance.
Masks are required indoors so make sure you bring one.
We spent about 2and 1/2 hours there which was enough time to see the exhibits and a show but I would have liked an extra half hour to an hour to go thru the exhibits a little more slowly.
We got there at 130 and it closed early(4pm) because it was New Years Eve.
I would allow about three hours to see it all especially if you have small children in tow.
All in all a great experience! Enjoy!
Jordan Cabral — Google review
A very cute aquarium! The prices have gone up immensely but I know they are an intricate part to supporting and maintaining marine wildlife off our New England coasts.
I wish the signage to the marine life had said where they were from. We love learning about where each animal comes from and there are not enough verbiage to educate.
The staff needs to have a stronger voice to the ignorant and blatantly irresponsible patronage who do not follow the rules. Washing your hands, using the two finger pet rule and avoiding certain areas of the petting pools is so dang important. Repeating the rules in a passive aggressive manner does not make people listen. Back bones and strong representation to the aquarium recommended.
Otherwise, a beautiful clean aquarium for the public to be enjoy. Kid friendly. Handicapable friendly. Educational to a point thanks to the staff.
Beth Smith — Google review
It's decent size and nice for a visit. We had a pleasant time. You have to buy time slot tickets either at the door or possibly online. We were unaware and had to wait two hours before we could enter. We grabbed lunch and walked around Mystic Village which was enjoyable.
It is very crowded most days so expect to be in the vicinity of others. Don't expect to immediately be able to experience an exhibit without first having to wait and take turns with other patrons.
The animals seem generally happy. The exhibits are clean and the aquariums are too. It's difficult to truly get a full learning experience because of the crowds however the staff is mostly knowledgeable.
There are interactive areas for children, information hubs for different exhibits, and a few regionally themed aquariums that were interesting.
We paid extra for the dino exhibit. It was interesting with life sized robotic dinosaurs. If you have experienced something like this before it's probably similar to what you have experienced albeit it was nicely done.
Overall if you've never been to an aquarium this is a decent experience. I probably won't go again just because of the crowds, it made it difficult to enjoy what they had to offer. Four stars because they do what they do pretty well but for me it wasn't anything I haven't experienced somewhere before.
E Holly — Google review
If you're going to go more than once, which I recommend, just get a membership. Tourist season in Mystic is impossible for any reason, and the aquarium is no exception, but it's definitely worth frequent visits the rest of the year. I'm still glad I get to see a variety of pinnipeds here, but I wish the California Sea Lions could be enjoyed in a regular habitat, not just the theater tank. The facility is tidy and the staff looks genuinely happy to be there.

You must go here!! One of the best aquariums I have ever visited! Seeing multiple beluga whales in person and interacting with them through the glass is something I will never forget. The aquarium has a huge outdoor section with several cool exhibits — beluga whales, seals, penguins. The indoor section is great as well with a large variety and tanks and exhibits. The sea lion “show” was both entertaining and educational, shedding light on some ways to be more environmentally friendly!

BUY TICKETS AHEAD OF TIME! Nice place. Smaller than the Boston aquarium. Fun interactive things to do and GREAT customer service!!! We went at 9am and people were already waiting in line. So pre-buy tickets! All the staff that we came in contact with provided excellent knowledge about the animals, facility and area. We went on a long holiday weekend. If I was to go again I would go at a time with less kids.

What a fun place! It’s not the biggest aquarium in the country but it makes up for it in guest service and interesting exhibits. The sea lion show was cheesy but cute. The main gallery had interactive exhibits and lots of interesting info. We saw the sea lion feeding and the attendants did a great job of explaining their actions and behavior of the animals. And of course the belugas were so dang cool! If we lived closer, we would definitely get season passes but a trip every year is definitely warranted!

We have been here quite a few times and it never gets boring! Sad that the penguins area was out due to construction but well be back again. The beluga are always happy and the sea lion show was spectacular as usual. They updated it! Enjoy some of our photos and the video of the beluga saying hi

We had so much fun at Mystic Aquarium! The highlights of my trip were seeing the penguins, beluga whales, and the sea lion show! If you are debating whether or not to see the show, I highly recommend watching it (great experience for both kids and adults). I’d recommend getting there a little early to get a good seat and there’s a little bit of audience participation at the front middle row if you’d like that.
Inside the aquarium, there were a few interactive exhibits where you could touch the fish or crustacean and one where you learn about waste.
All the staff were very nice and welcoming. We had a really wonderful time seeing all the animals. Overall, highly recommend this aquarium!

Do arrive by their opening, so you can secure proper parking. The first seal show is at 11 AM, which was amazing. Play with sharks and sting rays. Learn more about the Long Island Sound and the technology inspired by it. Explore the aquatic life of the Amazon. Best of all use various links to go on a listening tour. The staff are friendly, so ask for help and directions. This is a place to frequent often, so get a membership to enhance your learning.

So fun! There are so many things to do here. We got there bright and early and had bought our tickets online so we got right in. It was a lot less crowded in the early morning. It’s about half inside and half outside. They have feeding schedules posted for each out door animal. There are workers at each station telling you all about the animals which was neat and they answer questions. There is an outdoor play area for smaller kids(8 and under) it is in the shade. Definitely lets the kids get some energy out. There are so many add ins throughout the aquarium. My daughter did the hurricane simulator and loved it. Only $6. There are a few touch tanks: shark, star fish, sting ray etc. the food and drinks are over priced but that’s to be expected. The dinoseas was a nice add on which wasn’t too expensive. They have quite a few interactive activities, a kids play area, 2 4D movies and some neat animatronic dinos and turtles. This is all indoors. The sea lion show was awesome! It is less than 30 minutes. Very entertaining and interactive. You are able to come and go as you please you just need a stamp before you leave. Great experience and pretty affordable. Recommend dining elsewhere or packing from home. The food is tasty but pricey.

It’s always amazing to visit here at Mystic Aquarium. My toddler loved it! The gentle giants beluga whales❤️. Food options are less but overall awesome and don’t miss the sea lions show.
The Breakers is a 70-room Italian Renaissance megapalace inspired by 16th-century Genoese palazzi, located on a grand oceanside site in Newport, Rhode Island. The furnishings, most made expressly for The Breakers, are all original.
Get the annual pass! It is the best value! $80 for 2 adults for 1 year at all the Newport properties. Normally $26/adult at the Breakers. Anyway, this property is beautiful and the quintessential gilded age "cottage". Download the app so you can listen to the audio tour as you walk the property. You'll learn the Breakers has a lot of hidden artwork (acorns, dolphins) in their tile work and the ceilings and their meaning. Plan on going multiple times!

😱 what a beautiful mansion. I did the self guided audio tour along. It was very informational and interesting. It took me about 2 hours to do the tour.
I got $2 discount for being a AAA member.
All staffs were courteous. They don’t allow selfie sticks inside breakers.
There is a big parking lot for visitors. You can park there and enjoy both breakers and cliff walk.

This mansion is Amazing! I didn’t know such property exist in the U.S. large massive floor plan. All interior design was influenced by France and Italy. I enjoyed walking around with the self guided tour from the App. I love the terrace balcony on the 2nd Level which has amazing ocean view. I am glad this building was maintained so well for the new generation to visit.
We booked Hunter House Tour in advance so they offer us free upgrade to trio visit ticket.

Really interesting! Not often you see a place like this. Be sure to download the free audio tour app and bring headphones as you walk through - definitely adds to the experience.
The mansion is ornate and incredible - pretty mesmerizing to look around and learn about the details and history. A worthy stop!

What an experience! It's amazing to see how much craftsmanship and skilled labor went into making this massive mansion. The grounds surrounding it are also very beautiful but unfortunately it was raining and windy when we went.

Amazing…. Of course!
Self-guided/paced tour was nice. (I didn’t happen to have earbuds, so had to resort to reading the transcript, but glad the app had that!). Would give 5 stars if it wasn’t quite so pricey…. Probably better to buy those combo tickets others have mentioned, but we didn’t plan on seeing more than one of these mansions…. We did a weekday in June, and it was moderately busy but not overly crowded and a very nice experience…
I’ve visited at least a few mansions, and this really is a well-maintained example of opulence. (Like gold-leaf on huge wall areas applied by hand, such that it looks like leather? Yikes…. I’m still trying to understand why “more” = “better”, but anyway…. It truly is amazing.).
My favorite room wasn’t even a room at all, it was the covered porch/veranda… with that ocean view…. Crazy stunning!

Amazing place to explore, and the audio tour app is really easy to follow. Make sure to take some headphones so you aren’t that person listening to the tour out loud!
The building itself is intriguing and the level of detail in the architecture is something to behold. It’s a modern copy of authentic European designs, but because of this it’s done in a crisper fashion - most notably gas/ electrics and heating are built into the house - where usually this was retrofitted and ruins the feel of the place!

Highly recommended! I visited the Breakers Mansion in Newport, RI a few months ago and it was absolutely breathtaking! I’ve toured many mansions before, but this is now my favorite place! The setting on the Atlantic Ocean is so beautiful and peaceful! I did the self guided tour and I very much enjoyed it! There was no rush and I could walk around at my own pace! I loved hearing about the history of the mansion and the Vanderbilt family! I also wandered around the gardens for an hour or two. Just breathtaking! I found delightful souvenirs in the gift shop and I finished up with lunch at the darling little cafe. It was a fun half day touring this lovely historic home! Newport is one of my favorite places to visit and I can’t wait to go back to visit this beautiful home and town!

This is such an iconic symbol of the guilded age. Its pure opulence. Such a beautiful home!! The tours are well done but for those who dont want to listen to audio also have a written synopsis. Good child's scavenger hunt, beautiful great lawn. The ticketing here is busy so might be better purchased at Marble House or The Elms. A good stop for early in the day.

I went here for the first time not knowing at all what to expect, I left absolutely loving the tour I took. The mansion is breathtaking to look at inside and out. The decor and views are wonderful to look at . The crowds were not too bad considering there was a cruise ship in port with tours in the area. I definitely recommend walking the whole grounds and doing the cliff walk behind the mansion as well as it has breathtaking views of the coast and other mansions.

Beautiful day! Mansion was grand! I was happy to see period pieces of furniture that I believe were part of the owners and not donated by historical society or personal artifacts (if someone is aware if that's the case would love to know)
The grounds were nice not much to them but the ocean view was perfect!

With the multi-house tickets, no reservation is needed. Very convenient to show up when we want and visit the multiple houses as we feel like. This one is definitely the most grand, with over-the-top decor to display wealth. Not very interesting architecturally but unusual for its interior decor. Busy.

Very nice place to visit. I can't even imagine spending $50 million dollars to build a house that big back in the day. The lady there told me it's worth over $350 million now or more it no one really knows. They have a self guide tour with an app that you can listen to. Staff are nice and they have staff at pretty much in every room so you can ask questions. Worth the ticket price.

A really gorgeous place that’s quick to tour without the audio guide. I walked through in about an hour and really took my time to look at everything. The ceilings are gorgeous and you can see the historical impressions in the walls and columns. The view outside is gorgeous especially at the upper level of the house. There’s this huge level that overlooks the water and it is gorgeous.
Sadly, it’s blocked off by red rope. I understand the safety reasons for it since it’s a huge open wall to the water, but it was disappointing how far back the rope was. Otherwise, I got a good video of everything.
At the end there’s a little gift and souvenirs shop that’s a bit on the pricey side, but ofc it goes into maintaining this great community space. So it’s worth a little something to take home.

Absolutely amazing experience! Would highly highly recommend. Entry ticket was very affordable and the "palace" is absolutely beautiful. The estate is fantastic and the interiors are stunning. The place has been maintained very well and the folks there are very knowledgeable about the area. Wish we had some more time to spend there - would block out 2-3 hours for a fun visit. Make sure to spend some time on the walkway / bridge area.

Shipping and railroad magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt II's 70 room, 100,000 sq ft "Breakers" mansion is the epitome of American decadence and vanity during the "Gilded Age" of 1870s to 1910. This was the Vanderbilt's summer "cottage" for the months of July and August. Otherwise, the family resided in their residence on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
The Breakers was constructed by Richard Morris Hunt and is now a museum and location for special events and concerts. Ticket prices are $29 for adults and $10 for youth. We purchased our tickets online as part of a package with Viking Trolley Tours. Downloading an app provides for the audio portion of the self guided tour.
We arrived for our tour on November 28th, off-season. We were fortunate to have nice weather, 51⁰, which we're told by locals is a gift. At this time, the house is decorated for Christmas which adds enormously to the grandeur of the already lavish architecture, furnishings, and decor.
Much to Vanderbilt's dismay, he enjoyed the house for only a few years before dying in 1899. His wife inherited the home, eventually giving it to her daughter Gladys as her other six children weren't interested in the property. In 1948, it was leased to the Preservation Society of Newport County for $1 per year. It was later sold to the society in 1972.
While this house represents the shear decadence of lavish living, the architecture is something truly amazing and worth visiting and appreciating.

The main reason we stopped in Newport and it didn't disappoint. One of the most beautiful mansions I've visited with fantastic architecture that is extremely well maintained. The history of the house is fascinating and the staff is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and eager to help. The document for the self guided tour is well written and easy to follow. Overall great experience and would highly recommend.

If you’re looking to see only one of the mansions in Newport this is it. I went in early April and it wasn’t too busy but I can imagine it gets much crazier later in summer. If you plan on visiting any others the marble house is also worth a stop.

If you have the opportunity to visit The Breaker’s home, now part of the conservation society, do so. You’ll learn about this family’s architectural and design inspiration and their success in the gilded age. Download an app to listen to the audio tour. Personally I enjoyed the marble house slightly more.

One of my favorites in the Newport Mansions! Gorgeous, grand and definitely worth a visit! Be sure to do the audio tour on the Newport Mansions app (use earbuds or headphones if you have them) for the best experience! Paper copies of the audio tour are available in various languages as well if you don't want to use the app.

We visited The Breakers in December for Sparkling Lights. Having visited several times over the last 3 decades, visiting at night offered a different perspective.
In addition, the mansion was dressed in Christmas finery. The dimly lit rooms offered a warmth not felt during daylight hours.
Sparkling Lights is relatively small compared to other outdoor lights displays we have visited, however, it was satisfying and worth the price of admission.

I had visited the Breakers 7/8 years ago on a school trip and really wanted to revisit it. It's obviously ornate and gorgeous and if you really take the time, there is so much to appreciate in each room. There's so much to take in and the passion of artistry is in every single room. I highly recommend doing the audio tour though if you go because though there's text to read, it would've been more immersive and worth the cost to have that immersion. It is free though, you just need an app.

We went to see the Breakers when it was decorated for Christmas. It looked beautiful!! We listened to the audio tour which was very informative and not too long.
Parking was easy to come by and the place was not crowded. We visited on a Wednesday afternoon. The whole visit whit the gardens took approximately 2 hours. We had some coffee on the way out and had dinner in the city. It makes for a great day out.
The Cliff Walk is a picturesque walking trail spanning 3.5 miles, offering stunning views of the coast and magnificent architecture from the Gilded Age. Located behind the Newport Mansions, this scenic route remains often overlooked by tourists despite its breathtaking appeal. The trail begins at The Chanler and leads directly to the mansions along its path, providing visitors with an unforgettable experience of New England's beauty.

Lizzie Borden House (A Bed and Breakfast & Museum)
Unique B&B in the home of the 1892 Borden ax murders, with traditional rooms, free tours & Wi-Fi.
The house is BEAUTIFUL and everyone I had come across was so kind. My tour guide was Vic, she was absolutely incredible to say the least. The tour was so fascinating and definitely the highlight of my business trip. Her personality was so spunky and she knew how to keep the group involved and listening. She answered every question I had even down to the heights of the members in the household! I would love to come back again soon, and plan to do the Fall River ghost tour with them as well! Thank you for doing such a wonderful job of entertaining my morbid curiosity!

We arrived at the bed and breakfast for a 11:30 tour. Our tour guide, Jay, was very attentive to our needs in the gift shop, pointing out the bathroom and gifts for sale. He walked us through the house pointing out all the historical areas and explained very plainly about the crime scene, the people involved in the investigation and the trial of Lizzie. He explained where the final resting place of the entire Borden family was located and explained how to get to the grave site. He was very professional and knowledgeable about the history of the house, location and town! Very happy with the tour! Stayed the night in the Lizzie and Emma suite. Not a
Fan of the shared bathroom, but I understand the building having limited space and the owners trying to keep it as true to the original as possible. Enjoyed the free range of the first floor. Everyone was very respectful and friendly and it was quiet after quiet hours. Our light kept going off on its own and at one point in the middle of the night, around 3:00 am I awoke to our main door opening even though I was sure I bolted it shut, and the door to Emma’s room was closed when it had been open when we went to bed. Other then that it was a restful night!!

Stayed the night last week in the John Morse (murder) room. The house is gorgeous and so full of history. Did the 10pm ghost hunt with Phil (one of the tour guides) and he was great. It was an interesting (and scary) experience and I in fact did not fall asleep at all that night, just stayed up and enjoyed lounging in the cozy bed watching movies on my phone. Paid for breakfast in the morning, it was delicious and the staff were so friendly. Concluded my stay with an official house tour, which was also super fun and informative. Parking was a breeze and the gift shop is located in the back barn. Highly recommend but the ghost hunt is not for the faint of heart!

Visiting the Lizzie Borden House has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember, and once I found out you can stay the night…YES PLEASE! I’ve never had a paranormal experience until last Monday night. A friend of mine and I stayed in Bridget Sullivan’s room on the third floor, which I already knew coming in that floor tends to be more active. We also did a ghost hunt (which I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend…Ashley was fabulous!) during which my hair was pulled on the third floor. During the night I had my feet played with along with my nose being touched. Otherwise I slept just fine! I stayed here for the history and the paranormal aspect and knew it wouldn’t be like your typical B&B. The rooms could have used like bottles of water or something versus needing to purchase them from the shop, but overall that didn’t bother me much. Sad that you have to pay for breakfast versus a continental one offered, but again, didn’t bother much. I just went next door to the Lizzie Cafe for breakfast. Overall from the fellow guests to Ashley our ghost hunting guru and everyone we encountered it was a highlight to my trip!!! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a spooky good time!

We had an amazing time visiting the Lizzie Borden house! We took a tour of the house and stayed in the Andrew Jennings room that night! Emily was an awesome tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We were able to park in the back of the house and had no trouble getting into the house or our room. The room was great and there were plenty of amenities in the bathroom. We would definitely stay again!

We enjoyed a private tour of the house/museum. Everything has been restored authentically. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. It was fascinating to learn about the case and be where it all happened! Warning that you'll be shown some graphic autopsy photos so speak up if you'd rather not. Highly recommend for history buffs or true crime fans. We did not stay overnight, just did the tour and gift shop.

It was so fun!!! The best part of the experience was the staff, they were so nice and knowledgeable. It was so cool. I do have to admit the basement was scary but the rest of the house actually had really good vibes. HIGHLY recommend this spot to anyone traveling to southern New England.

As a true-crime fan and Lizzie Borden buff, I can't think of a better place to spend a spooky night! It's not a fancy hotel, definitely a bed & breakfast (with shared bathrooms for some rooms), so definitely visit with intentions to meet your neighbours and get cozy. That's part of the fun! The staff was very knowledgeable, extra welcoming and tons of tun. Total bucket-list experience and highly recommended! & Big thanks to the super-sweet Paige for going above and beyond to make us comfy. :)

Well, I did not plan on ever going to the Lizzie Borden House but while on a business trip I saw it on Google maps. My daughter has read the story and even plans on visiting the house someday. She previously told me a few tidbits of the story that peaked my interested upon discovering I was so very close to the house where such an event took place so long ago. I thought why not. I can go check it out, as I will most likely never be near here again.
First, I will say the house has been restored outside very well. Understanding the desire to maintain the architectural history, the owners have done a great job even after making several current day upgrades to provide a comfortable, safe and inviting bed and breakfast for guests.
Second, the ghost tour was a fantastic way to learn more about the town and spiritual presence that still lurks though the shadows throughout the day. The level of history given and the walking distance was appropriately determined.
The Ghost Tour ending inside the house was a great look into the past and creates a stirring imagination of just what happened on the important day in history that created the need for the Lizzie Borden Dead…I mean, Bed and Breakfast. There are pictures already posted here go see for yourself, but take the extra step and visit. It is worth it. Pictures may say a thousand words, but smell, touch and sight create a story and memory forever.
Bring an open mind and open heart to the tour, leave any skepticism behind. Be grateful, you will leave with a closed skull at the end.
This is a must experience, if for nothing else but to learn a little history about the once thriving city of River Falls, Connecticut.

It was a great experience! The gift shop is located around back of the house and that's where you check in, and where the gift shop is as well. They have a great selection of shirts, magnets, games, puzzles, post cards, etc. The house is simply beautiful, it's like stepping back in time and seeing what the family was seeing at the time. Our tour guide was amazing! He was so kind and knew so much information we didn't already know from past research and videos we have looked at. Jack is definitely one to be recommended when it comes to the tours, he is also more good looking in person! There is an add on for the basement and it was worth the extra few dollars. The group was a great size and we all talked prior to going into the house, we all were excited to be there. I hope whoever goes here next has as much fun as us!

My husband and I stayed at the Lizzie Borden house for my birthday with another couple and we had a great experience during our stay. We felt very comfortable and safe staying at the house with the key pad lock for entry. The house was was well kept considering how old it is and everything was clean the only complaint I have is the towels they give you to use for the shower are very used worn, but we did bring our own towel so we didn’t have to use the ones they offered. We did the night time tour from 10-12 our guide was fun and informative luckily we had a good group of people and the ones hat were loud and weren’t into the tour so much kinda did their own thing so it didn’t interfere with us. The next day we went and checked out the second home Lizzie had purchased and the grave sites of the family which was farely close and then we enjoyed Newport which was a 15-20min ride.

We really enjoyed our stop at the home of Lizzie Borden. Our tour guide was great, he clearly knew the history of the home and that of Lizzie.
I think it would be a great place to stay the night, but we didn’t know that it was an option before we stopped by. My bad.
The reason for the 3/5 is due to the price of admission: $215 for 6 people to tour the home for an hour is a bit much. I was even more surprised that for the price, the tour of the basement was not included. I believe that was almost another $10 per person.

Absolutely wonderful! Rooms so nice. Felt completely comfortable So historic. Woke up around 5:30am and we both had tears in our eyes. Very odd, we are not superstitious and came for the history not the paranormal type experience, but we both found it odd. Definitely recommend the stay.
Debra Holder — Google review
The experience was definitely on par with what I was expecting, which was a wonderful thing. We arrived quite early and while it was interesting to snoop about the house, having others there to me adds proper flavor. I’d recommend booking the night tour for the heck of it, or at least listening in here and there.
The long list of check-in instructions was helpful, as was the staff any time I contacted them before, during and after the trip. The rooms were comfortable. Thin walls and plenty of things to be careful of as it’s an old house, but the ambience created was fun, and there were some delightfully creepy moments created by the staff or… something else, who knows?
Location-wise, it’s Fall River so there’s only so much to do if you aren’t going to get stuck in with a paranormal investigation. Not a highly walkable area. There are decent shopping centers, a cinema, a marvelous maritime museum and some good restaurants to choose from a few minutes’ drive from the house. If you order food delivered to the house, the delivery people might have difficulty with knowing which entrance to knock on, so I suggest giving them details or waiting for them outside.
All in all we had a fun time and met plenty of other friendly people with a passion for ghosts!

I wasn't expecting to step back in time upon our arrival at the house. The furnishings and décor gave the house's history an air of authenticity---of being present when the legendary events occurred in 1892. We arrived early and found a most helpful Jay in the gift shop who knew our name without asking. The accommodations were more than adequate with comfortable beds, a private bath, and plenty of hot water. Jay's tour of the house was entertaining as well as revealing and he was open to the many questions I bombarded him with. Rachel, the housekeeper, was an absolute delight and made us feel right at home. I would highly recommend a stay at the Borden House for anyone wishing to steep themselves in its solemn atmosphere and quietly contemplate the events that made it a landmark. Thank you, Jay, and Rachel for a most enjoyable stay.

My daughter and I recently enjoyed a tour here, and it was easily one of the best experiences we've had. Our tour guide Elliott was fantastic - friendly, engaging, and shared so many stories! The house is beautifully restored, and sets the tone for the events of 1892. We also learned a lot of details about the family, murders, and community that we didn't know before. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing time at the Lizzie Borden house and our tour guide, Elliot, was quite impressive for such a young person. Elliot was engaging, informative, and entertaining and had just graduated from high school (spent a lot of time in the theater department). If you have a chance book a tour and get Elliot as your guide. The house is interesting and the story is always engaging and thought provoking. I think we will do it again next year and see what else we can learn about this fascinating case.

The tour was absolutely fantastic! We were fortunate to have the amazing Elliot as our guide, who was extremely knowledgeable and very nice! For the price ($30 per ticket), the value is amazing as the tour is an hour, and you are able to see all three floors. We opted for the basement tour as well (an additional $17). From the basement, you can still see remnants of the blood spatter from murder in 1892. The gift shop is also great!
Important notes: check in at the gift shop for the tour. You can see the famous ouiji board in the gift shop. We did not stay overnight, but the rooms are great, as one can see them all as part of the tour.

I cannot state enough how excited we were to stay at the Lizzie Borden house and on both occasions, we had an absolutely wonderful stay.
We are Paranormal Investigators and luckily we were able to investigate on both occasions.
The house did not disappoint us, and we had pretty amazing activity on both nights. It's a stunning house and you truly forget for a moment or two, the horrible crime that occurred there.
When you walk through the door, you could almost believe you have stepped back in time to 1892. The decor and artifacts set a hauntingly beautiful backdrop to a perfect stay in probably the country's most infamous bed and breakfast. The Staff who served us breakfast were delightful and the food was very good., but the chance to eat breakfast in the dining room where the Bordens had their last family meal and where the first autopsies were performed will probably be the reason we always choose to have breakfast when we visit in the future!

I've wanted to visit here for years and I finally made the trip! My tour guide was awesome and very patient despite the fact that the other people on the tour kept talking over him. I was a few minutes late and he even stayed back after the tour to show me what I missed. I stayed in the Hosea Knowlton room. The ghost tour that happened that night was so cool. Izzy was fantastic at answering all our questions and showing us how to use the equipment. Everyone got so much activity in the house it was crazy. I actually slept through the night. If the ghost children were playing in the room they didn't wake me up. I'll definitely be back and stay in another room to see if I get more activity in other rooms.

Our tour guide was a true thespian and incredible individual who shared at the history of the board and family and the home in a manner that allowed us to immerse our self into what she was sharing. There were so many intricate parts of history that were related to this family I have never heard, that has been conveniently unreported or left out.…. Until now. It's a comprehensive tour of the city's past that can take up most of your day to complete. Due to the extensive walking required throughout the trail, it's recommended as a standalone activity for visitors who want to fully immerse themselves in Boston's history and heritage.
Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a popular shopping mall in Boston with many stores and restaurants. It was built in 1742 by wealthy businessman Peter Faneuil, and has been a part of American history since its inception. The hall is famous for being the site of important speeches and gatherings during the early days of the American Revolution.
Amazing food vendors. Awesome stores. Great foods. Wasn't too crowded but it was still crowded on a Friday afternoon. The entire market was surprisingly clean. But the bathrooms were not, especially in the men's bathroom. It is a public area so no surprise. Each vendor has their own unique type of foods as well. The clam chowder is excellent from any of the vendors. Didn't have a bad experience with any of the clam chowder. The lobster rolls were great but expect to pay $30+ for lobster rolls. The seafood here is expensive. Expect to spend easily over $50 for food. Overall, a cool place to check out but don't forget to budget in the parking lot fee if you're on a budget.

I went in here as a quick stop since we were just there for a day through a cruise, but I highly enjoyed myself and was wonderfully surprised at how educational it was. I didn't realize Boston was such a big part of our American history in more ways than one. It's truly inspirational; the spirit of revolution lingers in the air. The marketplace has an old structure, but it's pretty modern. I liked that I didn't really see a lot of big franchises or big brand names. Highly recommend this as a stop while in town.

A great shopping center to buy gifts or have a typical Boston meal.
In the surroundings of the Quincy market we have many stores that sell shirts, coats and other types of gifts in the city.
Inside, in addition to handicraft and local gift shops, we have several options for food, from natural juices and the famous lobster sandwich to pizzas and ice cream.
Whenever we go to Boston, the Quincy market is an almost mandatory stop on our itinerary.
Be prepared to spend good hours between shops and restaurants.
Or even just observe the architecture or artistic presentations in the surrounding streets.

Love this place. Quincy market is the best. Recommended for visitors and locals. I can get my pizza, lobster roll, candy apple and cannoli fix all in one spot!!! And last time I went they had live music which was super cool!!

This is a really cool place in Boston. They have so many food options. It’s like a food market. And the building is really nice. Only thing they don’t have enough seating options. The day we went it was very crowded we didn’t find any chair. Difficult to find parking near by. You have to park far and walk. But worth going there.

My favorite place to go in Boston. We went late after returning from a trip to Spectacle Island so most of the food options were closed. Ice cream of course still available! Still always fun to walk around a bit and enjoy the scene. Definitely was a very good singer / guitar player performing which was nice. Best to go earlier in the day to enjoy all the many food options inside Quincy Market.

What a great place to visit! It was busy and bustling with lots of booths offering different crafts and wares. Got some high quality Boston memorabilia here to bring back home with me. Better than all the cheap touristy stuff you could find elsewhere. Plus there's lots of history to look at after you shop!

Maybe it's because I was tired after a long day of travel or I didn't quite know what to expect. For some reason, I assumed to have all of this shopping within different layers of the hall. Instead, inside the actual historical site is a lot of souvenir shops and then there's two rows; one on either side of the hall with all the shops. I'm going to go back when I have more energy to people and I'm sure I'll have a better time.

Nice selection of food, we went back several times when in the area. One Sunday afternoon there was a girl playing a violin, it was so beautiful. I wished I would have her information to buy some CDs.

Was not exactly what I was expecting. While the history being Faneuil Hall is interesting, most of the marketplace is across the courtyard in the Quincy Maket.
They have a display that encircles the middle of the hall describing what slavery was like in Boston during the Colonial period and stories of former slaves. I found that every educational.
There are a few shops that line the outsides of the hall.
Still worth the visit though.

This area including Quincy market is just bursting with entertainment and vibe. The market stalls have so much to offer and there’s a bonus of a public restroom. Local entertainment outside daily and just a fun place to sit and people watch. Lots of dining options And a fun spot for a few hours.

A cool marketplace/mall. There are lots of restaurant stalls and a central seating area. When I visited, there was someone playing violin covers in the main area, which was super cool! It’s close to several historic locations, so it’s a convenient pitstop on your city exploration tour.

Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a huge market in Boston. Unfortunately, The Great Hall was closed in Faneuil Hall so I didn't get to check it out. Since 1742, this marketplace was a meeting place for business. Quincy Market is also located there and the first food hall in the U.S.!
There are cobblestone throughout outside and so many people out and about. When we went on a Saturday, there were street performers singing and playing instruments. We were enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells. There's so much history! Across the street, there is the Boston Harbor. The Freedom Trail also goes through here. Overall, a spot you cannot miss when you're in Boston.

If you wanted to go visit a souvenir shop, one of the best place to visit as outside the hall there are some activities
Plus behind is the north, south and quincy market apart from souvenir shop there are some shopping areas and food shops
Were you can go grab to eat, dine on or before shopping.
Its an all in one place to be!

This place was nice to visit had tons of variety in the food hall. Downside parking cost us over $40 for 3 hrs the most absurd thing ever! A ton of little kiosks to shop at. We walked around the city and to the park.

A good place for meeting up with friends? Or maybe that special someone and has a bit of everything that offers a vibrant atmosphere as well as the romantic one. I love the activities that are going on from people showcasing their talents to locals, having fun in a sense of activities maybe it is that include visitors. It's a very warm welcoming vibe that it gives off and it's one of my favorite places to visit while I'm in downtown Boston. In fact I can say that area in general is my favorite place to just be alone and think of with company. My favorite next to Wharfs Landing or Boston Inner Harbor.

It's definitely a "festival marketplace."
During the urban renewal of Boston, led by mall developer James Rouse, Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market is a tale of urban revitalization through globalized capitalism. It is certainly more for tourists than locals.
It is a beautiful set of buildings and has a lot of history, but most of the tenants of Quincy Market are the same chains you'll see in other nationalized festival marketplaces like Saint Augustine or Chattanooga. Still, go and view it, it's pretty and lively.

Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston proved to be a winter wonderland during my recent visit, despite the icy and snowy conditions that enveloped the city. The historic charm of the marketplace, coupled with the festive atmosphere, created a magical experience.
Navigating through the cobblestone streets and historic buildings adorned with twinkling lights, I discovered a bustling hub of activity. The market's diverse array of shops and eateries offered a warm respite from the chilly weather outside. From sipping hot cocoa to indulging in local treats, the marketplace became a delightful refuge from the winter elements.
The Quincy Market building, with its iconic architecture, provided shelter from the snowfall while offering an eclectic mix of shops and food stalls. Even in the midst of wintry conditions, street performers and lively crowds added an energetic vibe to the scene.
Faneuil Hall Marketplace's ability to transform into a festive haven, even in icy weather, showcases its timeless appeal. It's not just a shopping destination; it's an immersive experience that weaves together history, culture, and the resilience of Bostonians in the face of winter's embrace.
The North End is a section of Boston known as Little Italy with narrow streets and some of the city's oldest buildings. It is part of the Freedom Trail where tourists can visit sites like the Paul Revere House and Old North Church, both significant during the Revolutionary War. The area is filled with Italian restaurants, coffee shops, pastry shops, and delis along lively Hanover Street. The historic neighborhood is at the heart of Boston's Italian community where one will hear both Italian and Boston accents spoken.
NH-112, also known as the Kancamagus Highway, is a picturesque route that traverses through White Mountain National Forest and attracts many tourists who enjoy viewing fall foliage. Though it may not be the quickest way to the White Mountains compared to Interstate 93, this scenic highway offers a more appealing experience. With its winding roads and breathtaking views of nature, NH-112 is a popular destination for leaf peepers looking for an enjoyable drive through beautiful scenery.
The Salem Witch Museum is a popular destination for tourists who want to learn more about the infamous witch trials that took place in the town in 1692. The museum has large and lighted exhibits that illustrate the story of the trials, as well as modern witchcraft practices, after the events.
Well they were definitely sold out of tour but the outside of this house is so unique! From another tour I was on the house has changed over the years, including paint color, location, and the stained glass details. Still, really neat!

My family and I expected maybe a little more for such a famous museum but it was still a good experience and history. The presentation is different and definitely not boring (if you have good imagination that is).
Bought the tickets online only, it took about 3 to 5 minutes right at the entrance line.
Lost in the East Coast — Google review
From the seamless online ticketing process to the well-structured tour, everything was well organized and hassle-free.
The museum's setup is unique and interactive. Upon arrival, everyone gathers in the first room, where you're seated and immersed in a captivating 360-degree show about the history of Salem. The visuals and narration transport you back in time, allowing you to experience the events firsthand. It's a remarkable 10-minute journey that sets the stage for the rest of the tour.
After the show, the group is divided in half, with one group proceeding to the second part of the tour while the other explores the gift shop. I found this division to be a great way to manage the flow of visitors, ensuring everyone has a comfortable experience. The second part of the tour delves deeper into the Salem witch trials, providing additional insights and historical context. It was fascinating to learn about the individuals involved and the impact these events had on the community.
What impressed me most was how efficiently the entire experience was conducted. Despite covering a significant amount of information, the tour was completed in less than an hour, making it perfect for those with limited time. This concise format allows you to absorb the key aspects of Salem's history without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
Regarding the gift shop, I found it to be decent, but I would recommend checking out the Witch City Mall for a wider selection of souvenirs and mementos. However, the museum's gift shop does offer a good range of items related to the Salem witch trials, ensuring you can take a piece of history home with you.

Buy tickets in advance to ensure you get to experience the show. In the first room, make sure you sit in the MIDDLE. If you can’t sit in the middle, the right side of the room would be the next best option. You have to rotate in your seat to see each diorama(wax figure displays). You go into two different rooms to listen to a recorded explanation of the origin of the witch trials. Half of the group moves to the second room and the other half has to wait 10-15 minutes in the gift shop. The gift shop is priced like most gift shops. Paid $32 for a t-shirt.
Adam Eaton — Google review
It was a cool visit, though I don't think I'd go again. I wouldn't say it's worth $17.50 a person. If you do go, sit on the stools as it's much easier to turn for the 360 show. Not a bad experience but definitely not a traditional museum or a very long visit, maybe 45 minutes total.
Katie K — Google review
A great top to cool off on a hot day and learn a little something. There are two rooms you go into. The first is a big open room that is dark and with seating to watch the presentation. Around the room and elevated are different scenes from the history of the witch trials. The second room talks about the history of witches.
graham forde — Google review
I know that everyone wants to visit the witch museum when visiting Salem, but honestly I don't think it is an experience worth paying for. The manikins look like they were made in 1692 and never updated. The audio sounds like something from a 60's B rated sci Fi flick and the story is something you could just get from a YouTube video for free. Just go sit in the common and watch any video online about a witch story from the time. Not to mention that the presentation is made so if you are sitting on one of the walls you won't be able to see the part that is highlighted during the story right above where you are seated. If you are seated in the center you can view the story that is highlighted on turns on a 360 rotation one at a time if you turn around as the room doesn't.
After the first room they take you in turns (meaning in 2 groups) to a smaller room to hear another audio tour. At least the sound on this one is a bit better. Again lots of outdated decorations and a wall full with things to read (the timeline of the story) but no time to read them as you are brought into the room to hear the audio tour and then told to move along to see other outdated decorations in the room.
Then at the end you are lead into the gift shop to buy stuff. So basically you pay to enter a store.
Having done it once, I would tell friends visiting me, that this is definitely not worth paying for. Maybe if it was free and you wanted to sit for a while, but you can't go in when you want to, so my recommendation is, skip it.

The Salem Witch Museum is a beautiful building. The actual tour is just OK compared to everything else offered in Salem Massachusetts. My teens enjoyed it, but were quickly done and ready to go on to the next thing. When sitting, be prepared to have to do a 360 turn. The round stools look easier than the benches were. When we visited tickets were only able to be purchased online with specific entry times.

The building was very cool and the staff was friendly. The museum wasn't what I expected or hoped for but I'm still glad I went. I wish there would have been more things to look at. The gift shop was nice.
Maddie Mayfield — Google review
Nice place to visit and learn what happened in during the Salem Witch trials. It's listed as an hour but really is closer to a 35 minute tour with voice overs and mannequins to explain what happened. It can feel rushed for the price a family will play and that was the only reason for the 4 vs 5 star rating.
Jon Testa — Google review
The museum is a tourist spot and is outdated. I feel the museum definitely needs to change something to keep customers returning. I'm surprised they don't offer any additional services such as walking tour or live action play. The gift shop has many awesome gifts. I don't regret going to the museum, but it's still the same thing from 15 years ago. I will not go back next year unless if they offer something different.

The building is neat. The idea is very fun! There isn't much to do!!!! The museum consists of 2 areas to view with audio information. Then, you go into the gift shop. I would love to have a little more to see.

I really enjoyed the presentation and tour at the Salem Witch Museum. I bought my ticket on line and was able to go right in. There was a small group of about 15 people. We were brought into a room with several attractions. There was plenty of room for us to sit and see everything. After, they bring you into another room and go over the history of witches. You are then let out in the gift shop. Perfect opportunity to purchase books, mugs, and shirts.

You definitely get an overview of what happened with some neat scenes in the main theater. Your tour starts in the main theater (you can sit anywhere and it's fine). Second, is another presentation in a smaller room from a guide which you can tour after the talk. Then you can browse the gift shop. They have a good selection in the gift shop. The museum is worth the visit. Very glad we went.

Was not worth the price we paid to get in. For my self husband and daughter it was $50. You were escorted into a large room that is dark, and there’s a story that plays that lights up each section of the story.
The mannequins you can tell they were old. If you aren’t sitting in the middle you won’t be able to see all of the light up sections. We were sitting on the side wall and ended up not being able to see the sections behind us.
My 7 year old daughter didn’t really care for it. After the first tour we were escorted into the gift shop while the tour that went in front of us is in the second part of the tour. So we had to wait into the gift shop until the other group left the one room. My daughter said the best part of the tour was the gift shop that she was able to get a spell book from.
It is not stroller accessible. You have to climb up 7 small steps. We had to carry the baby stroller up those steps, down another set of steps and back up another set. And not handicap accessible that I could see. I guess for not being there ever it’s a cool thing to do, but I won’t be a repeat customer. It’s something you do once and call it good.

Whether you’ve never been to Salem or have some knowledge of witch trial history, this should be your first stop. Susan the Manager was our guide during the off season of late April in our group of only 10 (4 of us). Yes, it is a tad campy and a tad dated, which is why I loved it. Great starter and “base” information for pre-or teens. I love that it is primarily a seated presentation, great for those disabled or those with mobility issues who can’t do a standing/walking tour. 5 stars! Keep in mind this isn’t CGI , nor should it be. Classic New England history presentation at its best!
Located in Salem, Massachusetts, the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion was built by sea captain John Turner in 1668 and inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1851 novel, The House of the Seven Gables. The house is a well-preserved example of early seventeenth century New England architecture and features seven gabled roofs and classical facade.
Very nice tour of the house that inspired Hawthorne's book. The docent was knowledgeable and friendly. The tour was a bit expensive but the care they took keeping and restoring the facility was evident. Good for families and adults.

A must see stop if you're visiting historic Salem and want some great history of the colonial days. Absolutely beautifully restored homes from the famous novel and historic Salem. The tour is a must if you want to view the interior of the homes, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and had answers for every question we could think of. I really thought it was cool that we got to go up the hidden staircase was super neat and unexpected. Well worth the money for the tour (it's the only way you can view the interior of the homes anyways).

We did the walking tour in the garden. The paid tour has times and we would've waited an hour and a half, so opted for the outside.Approx $15 a person for this part. Beautiful gardens. Very peaceful place and the view of the water was incredible.

Our guide was outstanding, she showed us The House of Seven Gables and explained its history so well. Getting to see the original structure (atic) the secret staircase, the reasons for the rooms and ceiling heights as well as the grounds was quite an experience. The Hawthorne house was also quite impressive with how they moved it to the property to save it from being turned into a parking lot. Honestly well worth your time if you're in Salem.

Definitely a must go in Salem! Originally, I wasn't going to take the tour but because I don't read times places open, I found myself with some free time. I was not disappointed! I highly recommend the guided tour of the House of Seven Gables. There's a self-audio tour of the grounds, but as a fast reader, I opted to read versus waiting for the voiceover to finish.
This place is so cool and there's lots to see. The staff is informative and patiently answers all questions. Definitely recommended!

A fantastic building and some classic historical early settlers architecture. The entire house and gardens has been made into a museum exploring the history and people that lived there. There is a great link to the literary classic the house represents and there is also a great self guided audio tour that you can access through your mobile phone while exploring the gardens.

This was well laid out. The location had several historical buildings in the property, including the House of the Seven Gables and Nathaniel Hawthorne's birth home. You pay for a guided tour of the Seven Gables and then can go on self-guided tours of the others (one was not open when I was there) and the grounds. The tour guide was very informative. The grounds are beautiful. There is also a gift shop with several interesting things in it.

I love touring historical homes, and this one was fabulous. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and was very patient with those of us who really wanted to soak it in, especially with pictures. Everything about this historical home (and the grounds) was beautiful. This, along with The Daniel's House, made the trip to Salem worth it. Big Zero for the rest of Salem, which is just a big tourist trap, mainly for those interested in the occult.
I took a ton of pictures, but I've only attached a few. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here!!!

It's one of the historical houses of old times. It's over advertised, as most of the places in the US. Unfortunately, very little remains from the original home as it was restored and modified according to the novel. If you just walk by yourself, it won't be really interesting. Tickets will be more expensive with the guide, but it's really worth it. We had an amazing guide. It's like you are watching a fairytale. He is a very talented one. Tour takes around 30 min. As he said, the price of every ticket goes to support the newly arrived immigrants in Salem. Still recommended to see!

This is an American classic! A settlement of historical importance of what would become the United States of America, before consolidation of such. The grounds were very nicely kept and several exhibits were there to visit while waiting for the "guided tour". The woman who guided us through the exhibit was extremely well versed in early (pre "USA") America. Probably not enjoyable for the very young, or the very mobility impaired! We were there on an early April weekday, the very busy summer crowds will surely require Patience and things to entertain the youngsters.

I visited Salem for Halloween. This was my first stop. The tour is approximately 45 minutes long and contains lots of history. The tour relays all aspects of the family and house's history. Our tour guide did a good job discussing some of the more sensitive/controversial portions.
You are lead through the house, which includes the original wings and the expansions. The tour includes low ceilings, stairs, and narrow stairwells. If you have issues with tight spaces there are a couple of rooms you may have to skip. The outside grounds and view of the harbor is beautiful. The tour was a good starting point for my evening in Salem.
Plymouth Rock is a famous rock in Plymouth Harbor, Massachusetts, that is widely believed to be the spot where the Pilgrims first came ashore when they arrived in 1620. The claim originates from 1741, when a 94-year-old man named Thomas Faunce stated that his father and several passengers on the Mayflower told him that the stone was the landing spot. There is no historical evidence to support this claim.
It’s literally a rock in an encasing right off of
The street. There is a museum for the mayflower a few feet away, but it was not open at the time I was there. I went early in the morning around 830am during the off season, but I’m sure it gets packed up, and there does not seem to be much parking. It’s definitely cool to see, but I wouldn’t go spending and entire day there, you only need a few minutes. As far as the idea that it’s where the pilgrims landed, I will leave that alone (wink wink). I hope my review helped.

An excellent addition to any New England itinerary. The Mayflower II sits at port just ahead. The stone marked with the year 1620 AD. The oldest town in Massachusetts has many historical treasures to reveal. As part of the Cape Cod region, the area boasts a beautiful vista of the waters to the East. Boston is only 30 to 45 minutes away, depending on the time of day. There are plenty of novelty shops along the way to pick up souvenirs. I especially enjoy the ice cream shoppe across from the Rock.

Not what I expected!
Plymouth Rock is very well seated away from the public, which is probably best to keep from deterioration from touching. It's inside an enclosure several feet under ground level, so all photo's are taken from a top down view.
Near by is a replica of the Mayflower and various other statues. Lavatory facilities are available. Walking around the trails was pleasant and dog friendly. The views are beautiful.
There is parking near by, and if you don't mind walking a few streets away free two hour parking as well.
One visit is enough, but would visit with relatives again.

A great place to see your elementary history textbook come to life. The rock is surrounded by a guard structure with park ranger on duty. No touching, but plenty close to enjoy it. While on premises, go across the street to the pilgrim grave and enjoy the view of the bay and replica Mayflower.

Interesting history behind this rock! Marked as 1620 but first time someone claimed as pilgrims landed here was a claim by someone in 1700. Not sure if that is enough evidence!
TIP: Cute downtown area. Find a parking on Main Street for a two hour parking and walk 2mins to get to water rather than paying to park at the water!

Didn't realize that Plymouth rock was literally just a rock. I thought it referred to the land in general.
But here it is. Plymouth rock in all it's glory.
Not much to look at but cool to think about all that came from such humble beginnings

Wow, a rock. What else can I say? The area seemed nice and clean, there are some shops along the water, beach type areas. We parked and took a look at the rock, it has a nice walk through building around it. Then we walked up some stairs and looked out to the water using the binoculars. Nice area to stop on our road trip.

Super small and underwhelming- but.. the park surrounding it, is absolutely beautiful. Nice for a quick walk by but this is not an all day event at all. Make sure to check the shops out, just one street over!
Jules Vidro — Google review
It's a rock, that we "think" is the one the Mayflower and first settlers arrived at (read the history and you'll see why the quotes). I am a fan of history, so can say I was there and saw it, but I wouldn't plan a trip just for that. We did a trip that included Boston and all together it was very worthwhile - but be aware of the distance between Boston and Plymouth. The ranger at the rock was very informative and nice to chat with.

Definitely worth the stop, just to see, feel, and learn the history. The area is really nice, with paid parking nearby. Stop and see the rock, walk around, there are other statues, and the Mayflower II is docked nearby. There are nice restrooms, and a also a couple of nice little souvenir stores. There is also a museum, but we didn't have a chance to stop by there.
Leilani-Z — Google review
It was neat to see a piece of history and to read about it and learn more.
I feel the rock could have been on some type of pedestal or something to elevate it.
I'm not sure I completely understand why it was moved to begin with years ago, hence the big crack in it from dropping off the truck that moved it.
It kind of feels like it's in a mausoleum versus a showcase. (I hope this makes sense to someone)
I did not know that the Mayflower was a replica built from 1955 to 1957. I'm pretty sure I can understand the reasoning behind it, that a boat from 1620 would not withstand this many years in the water as a showcase.
It is beautifully done and if the museum was open I would have gone in. But because this is a winter visit we took the chance, overall with shops / restaurants and museums being closed until spring.
It is a nice waterfront walk and there is more history here than I could show.
For anyone planning on visiting Plymouth Massachusetts and this area specifically, I would suggest at least two nights in 3 days. If you are a history buff or someone who wants to learn more, I think that would be sufficient time to get it all in.

I like hearing and seeing where history happened. It's a great place to visit to reflect on that! We visit Mayflower II as well. Well worth-it trip! Recommend to anyone!

It was a beautiful rock. A meaningful trip for my friends and family. We had friends from Germany come and visit and we took them here. It meant a lot, it’s a beautiful and worked up monument to history. But it’s also a small rock 😂🤷🏼♀️
Michelle Tretola — Google review
Easily accessible! There is something humbling about witnessing a piece of history. As I had no previous conception regarding the actual size of Plymouth Rock, there was some shock relating to how small the rock was, this was a misconception on my part. Nevertheless, the fact that it remains is a testament to it's importance in American history.
Chelsey Kreil — Google review
It's a small rock, so don't expect a big boulder. But it is very cool to see where America all started. Really nice park, and shops/restaurants all around.
Kaley Mierek — Google review
This is a good rock. I went here and was satisfied with my experience. It’s said that the Pilgrims first landing in North America was at this rock, but there isn’t any historical evidence to confirm this. This is a small rock located in Maude a memorial with a roof like the Pantheon. This rock gets very busy with tourists, but I was here during the morning after Easter so it wasn’t very busy when I was here. I gave this rock five stars because it was a cool experience to get to see what is thought to be a piece of history. If it was super busy when I went here I would’ve rated it lower.

Plymouth is a great, old, scenic, New England town with a charming waterfront filled with working fishing boats, and seafood joints, plenty of shops and restaurants. A replica of the mayflower ship resides in the harbour. Plymouth Rock is a symbol of the first Europeans to venture to North America. It's a big rock on the ground surrounded by a beautiful iconic structure. It's worth taking a look for 5 mins or so, (or however long you can stare at a rock.) Take a picture and move on.

Plymouth Rock is a must-see for any American history buff or anyone curious about the origins of our nation. While the rock itself may be small and underwhelming at first glance, the weight of history it carries is immense. Standing on that very spot where the Pilgrims first stepped ashore in 1620, you can't help but be transported back in time and imagine the challenges and trepidation they must have felt. There is some amount of legend however, about Plymouth Rock, as to whether it was actually stepped upon by the Pilgrims, its movement from one place to another and how it has been chipped down in size over the years . Either way, it is a major symbol of our country.
The park surrounding Plymouth Rock is well maintained, with gorgeous views of Plymouth Harbor. There are also informative plaques and markers that tell the story of the Pilgrims' arrival and the early days of Plymouth Colony.
Overall, visiting Plymouth Rock was an incredibly enriching experience. It's a place where you can truly connect with the past and gain a deeper understanding of American history. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in our nation's story.

Fantastic to see history like this. I never knew the Pilgrim father's landed at twenty minutes past four and how significant it was. Any later and they would have missed the Indians that fed and saved them.

Great history there in that town wish we would have arrive earlier in the day so we could have seen more of the sights.
The app for the electric cars is a must to get around if you know where you want to go. Loved the graveyard, little secret, it has the best view of the bay.
Didn't like the fact that we had to pay for parking and there was very few sports to park.
Plimoth Patuxet Museums is a living history museum that preserves the culture and history of the Pilgrims and their Native American allies in 17th century New England. Costumed actors portray iconic figures from both the European and Indigenous cultures that interacted here, while permanent exhibits explore the complex histories of these two groups. The museum is located on ground carefully chosen to mirror Pilgrim's original settlement, surrounded by a rough stockade gate modeled after original fortifications.
This was such a fun outing, especially with elementary school-aged kids. It was an easy drive to Plymouth from the North Shore on a weekend day. We went shortly after the kids had their Plymouth Rock social studies units (3rd and 1st grade kids!) and the kids were fascinated to see exactly what the settlements looked like and how the people lived. The medicines and musket/gunpowder display was particularly fascinating (the gun display might be scary for younger kids, as it was fairly loud), as was the wattle fencing. The kids actually got to make part of a fence with the (totally in-character) staffer who was exhibiting how to do it. My family loved the theatrical nature of the place, too, since all the staff members were in character and using language from that time period. I want to make this a yearly tradition for the next few years.

A great experience for kids! We had a great time participating in a militia muster, cooking by the water, and talking to 17-century English folks! Such an amazing way for kids to "experience" history. Kids got to touch animal pelts, actual building materials, tools, and wander through homes and gardens. It really brought history to life, and the kids have been so excited to learn more ever since. Worth it to get the Heritage Pass, but get there early if you want to see it all the same day!

This was such a learning experience! Native American was the first section. From their homes, cooking and boats they made from hand. The English colony has been very well preserved. I love how they answer our questions! The gift shops are great too

So much fun and rich in history! What a way to learn about the pilgrims and their stories, like a living story book. This is absolutely a place you need to go with children. Let them be inquisitive and ask all the questions on their mind. The actors are so good with kids and will answer any questions they ask, in fact I think it may be there favorite questions to answer!
If you really want to learn I would prepare questions in advance, it can be hard to come up with deep questions on the spot, so preparing a list of questions you want to learn about is rewarding!

The museum is a blast to the past and gives an amazing glimpse of what life was back in the Pilgrim age. I highly recommend this museum if you or your group likes history and wants to discover life hundreds of years ago.

This is an interesting place to go if you like history and want to learn about the pilgrims and natives. It was pricey for walking outside and visiting the villages. I wish they had actual native Americans and more with the village. It was nice talking with the English ladies. They were sweet and showed us the kids house where our daughter could play with games they had.

We had a great time. Informative and interesting. Great place for kids as it's not "don't touch" territory. There are lots of things to see, touch, smell etc. An interactive experience. We have been twice recently and will return soon. There's always something new to see or learn.

Pricey but worth it. The actors and demonstrations were very good. Highly recommend gif kids 4-12. Staff goes out of their was to teach and demonstrate. Not really recommended for people with walking disabilities because it's a long walk on uneven dirt. Entries are very low and easy to bump into. They do offer a golf cart ride between villages.
Tracy Saunders — Google review
Very good interactive history experience. Less period era characters then I remember when I went years ago however it's the beginning of the season so they might not be fully staffed. Also to early for gardens to be planted so that aspect wasn't present. The period era characters that were on hand were very interactive welcoming and included everyone in the area in their presentation. Very very informative and great experience at a very reasonable price. Definitely will go again.

This was a great place to visit with elementary aged kids. My 5 and 8 year-old were as engaged and my wife and I were in learning. The actors were exceptional never breaking character and hold conversations with everyone about a multitude of topics. You want to make sure you are there for the militia exercise. This audience participation demonstration is awesome! In the Native American section there were not as many staff or actors to share information or ask questions. Overall we spent longer than expected here because we lost track of time.
Andrew Kassouf — Google review
Great place to take a historical walk through the woods, and some good views of the water as well. Colonial and Patuxet history is well preserved both in the museum and on the walking paths, where you can go in and out of centuries old dwellings. Staff are helpful and informative and will answer any questions. The performers are as well, and make it an immersive experience. Even if they aren't interacting with someone, they will blend into the background by doing colonial tasks in their historical clothing, regardless of temperature. While the Plimoth-Patuxet village is the main attraction, the interior museums and gift shops have fascinating items, an authentic old-school pottery barn, and full A/C.
Tip: If it is sunny out, bring sun glasses. The buildings are very dark and you will need to adjust your eyes each time you go in and out.

What a fun experience! The site was beautiful and did an amazing job of capturing what it must have been like during that period. All of the staff was friendly and hugely informative. The interactive roleplay by staff was such a charming and immersive touch that I've not experienced elsewhere. I live in a city similarly steeped in history from the period, but it was so fascinating seeing a totally different perspective from a completely different region. Wholeheartedly recommend a visit.

Wonderful historic area. We learned a lot during our visit. Great for families. Glad they are honoring Native people’s by creating more structures and stories of the people who first inhabited the land.
The Plimoth Colony area is really neat. Being able to go and explore the homes and buildings and speak to the character actors (they don’t break character and are very informative) was very cool.
Beautiful & educational way to spend the day.

Of course, it's off season, so there was no crowd- but also, there were very few in costume employees. Annie, in the gift shop was particularly friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and full of learning opportunities, especially for the littles. Not wheelchair friendly, as the hills and gravel will be a challenge. Snacks and drinks are available.

I have not been here for years. Seems so much smaller than I remember. Not many people in the pilgrims homes. I know it's a bit early (it is almost May) but if they are open I guess they should have pilgrims to give us information. Out of all the homes there we only talked to people in 2 homes and a few people were outside making something. No Indians at the Indian huts just 2 regular people, I'm guessing they were pilgrims.

Really neat living history museum with ample parking and friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Went there on a rainy cold day but still had a great time and learned a lot about the pilgrims and the Native Americans. It's hard to imagine what they went through 400 years ago but this place does an amazing job of demonstrating it and making it fun and engaging.

Very atmospheric and historic place that you would expect to see in Europe but not in the US.
The Plimoth Patuxet Museums is a living history museum, that tells the story of the Indigenous people and English colonists who met along these shores in the 17th century.
Unfortunately, it's well known that this meeting did not end well for the indigenous people...
The most interesting exhibit is of course 17th-Century English Village. It recreates the 1627 Pilgrim settlement, complete with thatched-roof houses, a palisade fence, and costumed interpreters who portray the lives of the Pilgrims.

Cool educational experience. They start with an explanation of when the pilgrims arrived in a short show, then they let people explore the area. There are goats, cows and pigs to see. The people in the English Village stay in character and definitely have interesting things to talk about. Definitely feel free to ask them questions, touch and learn about their everyday items, and have fun! Definitely recommend visiting!

Travel back to the 1600s to the home of the Pilgrims!!! This is a fun place to visit and experience a bit of early American history! There were dozens of "colonists" there to interact with and observe. They wear authentic clothing and perform the daily tasks that would have been needful on the plantation all while staying in character. It is a great place to bring the kids to learn some history but is just as enjoyable for adults. This is truly a "living museum!" A great way to spend a day!

Charming outdoor museum, perfect for adults and children, solo and groups. It's just the right size to enjoy a gorgeous outdoor walk on the paths, and admire the sights and smells of fall foliage, without feeling overwhelmed. The fort had the best view of the 17th century village. Wow! I love how they encourage asking questions and talking with the "locals" (actors who do their jobs perfectly). There are volunteers and "local villagers in the village. Weather was 68F, which made for a perfect day to spend outside. I enjoyed the other exhibits as well. Learning about the first Thanksgiving, and the 15 minute intro video in the welcome center gave me new perspectives.
I highly recommend making spending the day here.

Back in my days this place used to be called The Plimoth Plantation, Now it’s Plimoth Patuxet Museums. I used to love coming here on school field trips when I was a little kid and coming back here as an adult brings back a lot of good memories and nostalgia. You can learn so much History from this place! I bet it’s really wonderful to come here on Thanksgiving Day and to enjoy a wonderful feast and buffet with lots of food lol. The museum has actors that portray that 1600’s era and will not break character. There were some cows and goats but I remember that there were more different animals than my last visit 20 years ago, But regardless the experience was great!
Atlantic Ocean swim area with day-rate & metered parking, bathhouses, an RV park & event facilities.
This is a good beach for locals or vacationers as it's usually well kept. There's an assortment of shoppes open in the summer and enough activities to spend the day here. The beach is beautiful in winter, the sunrises are just as stunning in February as they are in July. Worth a visit if you're in the area, but there are definitely better areas 20-30 minutes away in Maine.
If you happen to be visiting between May-August the center of sea creatures in worth a visit. Located on the beach, it's a small building with a one-way walking loop inside. There are touch tanks and more information than most can digest in a single visit. The staff are very passionate about their studies as most are undergrads working for the summer.
The beach shoppes are what you'd find at pretty much every other recognized beach / pier area. Toys and summer clothes are available for a higher cost.
If you're 21+ Bernie's Beach Bar is a great place to spend a (probably drunken) evening and night. They have a live showing venue on the second floor with a few mini bars, then a connecting deck with a full bar. We came July 2022 to see Lil Jon and some local artists perform. Not a good place to bring a 'pack of smokes' though, they do a decent search at the door and got mine from the inner seam of my wallet. Oops!

Very nice beach...great wave action and on particularly good days is popular with surfers! Almost like two beaches actually-- sandy and great for swimming to the south, and rocky and made for exploring to the north. Sidenote: very, very popular for walking dogs...I like dogs as much as the next person though like happens so many place they get a bad rep b/c of inconsiderate owners who don't pick-up after them.

Scenic beach in the New England area. The cities of Concord and Manchester are nearby. This is a perfect summer destination to add to a New England itinerary, especially headed north to Maine. My itinerary started in Boston and ended in Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Maine. The Atlantic waters are cold even in the summer. The sunrise is something to behold. On the weekends and holidays, try to get here early for parking opportunities. If headed upstate New Hampshire the white mountains are a must see especially in the fall with the changing leaves.

The Conway Scenic Railroad offers scenic train rides that take you on a journey through the heart of the White Mountains. The railroad is one of the main reasons that North Conway became a tourist destination, and it features restored locomotives and dining cars from the late 1800s.
Loved taking the train here! It was 2 1/2 hours long to one end and back to the train station. Very festive for the holiday season. You can move in between carts if it’s not too crowded. The station is also located in a cute area of coffee shops and small businesses. It
might be best however to take a train in the warmer months so you can see better views of nature throughout the ride. If possible, buy tickets in advance on the website.

A great family adventure that does not take the entire day away! We took the 2 hour tour. It was very scenic and they did a great job with explaining all of the local details along the way. I hope they get the PA system fixed as that made it difficult to hear all the facts. They should think about limiting the age as there were some very frustrating toddlers on out train. We also had to stop twice as 3 other cars lost power a couple times along the way. It’s worth the cost if you like trains and knowing the local history.

We did the 55 minute ride. I think its worth getting the dome seats - you get a panoramic view of everything. There is some commentary for the first half . They switch the engine sides after the first leg and then they head back. When they switch engine sides, they say its a tradition to switch seat sides. But if you have people like we did who didn't want to switch, its nice to have the dome seats so you still get to see the views on the other side. You can get out and watch them switch the engine if you want - its great if you have kids who love trains. The 55 minute ride is more than enough for kids. Not so exciting for adults but a pleasant experience.
If you buy tickets in advance online (recommended as they sell out), you still have to go in to the ticket office, show you paid, and get a physical ticket for the train (the conductor comes by to punch the tickets).
There is parking by the station. Arrive with time to spare as you may have to wait for a parking spot . If you have kids, let the explore Zeb's across the street (more on that in a separate post)

Tunnel and bridge crossings keep it interesting and you’re back at the station before even one “are we there yet?”.

The train ride was okay. Personally it's a one and done experience for me. Didn't really see much during my train ride besides a few houses, trees, and the occasional river. There were a few views of the mountain but just short glimpses as the train passed through. If you want to experience riding on a old fashioned locomotive train then this is definitely your experience. For me, it was just okay. I was better off saving the money for a nice lunch and see take in the scenic views on one of the many free trails nearby.

Riding this train was a bucket list item for me! I grew up an hour south and we vacationed in the area many times over the years. I never got to ride it as a kid so it was extra special for me 5 decades later! We rode up into Crawford Notch and stopped for a few minutes. The views are breathtaking approaching the Notch including the multiple waterfalls in the East side and below Mount Webster. We rolled into Fabyans (Bretton Woods) for a glimpse of the smallest, most dangerous mountain in the world! The trip back down through the Notch and all the way back to North Conway was just beautiful! The price to ride coach was very well worth it.
The staff on board was friendly and helpful. I even got to chat for a moment with our Engineer, Mark. I've got to mention the snack bar. I can't remember the sweet lady's name but I ordered a hot dog but it wasn't ready. She came to my seat to notify me it was ready!
Everyone should ride this train!

Pros:
- 100 year old train makes you feel nostalgic. Think Harry Potter!!
- It's great if you love trains and would like a quick short train ride with scenic beauty outside
- Comfy seating, clean and well maintained especially considering these are a century old
- easy to book online through their website. NOTE that you'd still need to collect your physical train tickets from the counter albeit it was real prompt
Cons:
-The vanilla 56 min tour doesn't cover the mountains
- The prices are steep
Verdict: definitely recommend, but we will be going for the mountaineer ride next fall!

There are two snack cars on the train for easy convenience. Sit back and enjoy ride. Check it out. We recommend.
TLDR - family fun

Was a great experience!! So glad we did it even though the weather was not perfect. The experience of riding in a 50's train was great while seeing NH White Mountains in the fall. It was past peak but still beautiful! The picnic lunch for gluten free was tasty.

We took the mountaineer train ride and it was approximately 4+ hours ride. Great views and you get get to get off the train for about 45mins once you reach up the mountain to take pictures. Keep in mind that you’re able to drive via car to the destination but the train offers a route that give you views that driving will not have access to. We almost missed the train as there were a farmers market that Saturday and parking was hard to find. Regardless, beautiful train ride!
Advice: bring your own drinks and food or you’ll pay a lot of money to buy on train.

We took the mountaineer train ride on October 6th to enjoy the beautiful foliage. It did not disappoint and was probably my wife’s favorite part of our New England trip! We sat in the dome car during our 4-5 hour ride and had a nice relaxing break time. For our ride, there was some bonus excitement from the helicopter that was shooting an IMAX film of the train!

The family got together for a short getaway and decided to try the Saco River tour, about 2.5hrs long. I attached some random pictures from the ride. Comfortable ride and definitely the perfect thing to do especially on a rainy day like we had.

Everyone was professional and polite. Can understand why no food and beverages were allowed on train....folks can be piggy sometimes. Did not like the " constant" narration on the trip up...to Sawyer River.... entirely too much talking from that guy.

What an amazing time visiting on a serendipitous encounter. Literally just stumbled on this incredible place while driving thru. Wish I had known about it before to experience the scenic trains. As a train fan though plenty of time was spent gawking at all the vintage trains and seeing this small station bustling with activity. Staff were incredibly friendly and took the time to explain some of the history. Definitely need to come back to get the full experience.

Took the snow train dome car ride from North Conway to Attitash. There is no stunning scenery at all. You get a few views of rivers as you cross them. Mostly its woods and houses. If you want to see some scenery, drive up Crawford Notch and you can control who you have to listen to on the way. (Our dome car had a prick telling the whole dome where he went fishing, the life history of his twin sons, and all the vacation trips they have done, etc. He was so busy talking the whole time I don't think he even looked outside.)
Everything is well run, and it 'ran' on time. Impossible to hear the station announcement where we were waiting to board because of a load motor running on the train next to us. Not worth the price, and I am a train fan.
The only simulation of the heyday of snow trains, is the boarding. In the heyday, they saw scenery.
It is not possible to look at all the old equipment that is there, in fact, you can't even get onto the platform anymore, until it is boarding time. This is a $10 ride.

On a beautiful February day, we stopped by and met a couple of the engineers, Greg and Jeff, and were treated to a fabulous tour of the train yard, the turntable and shop, and the Pullman car. We heard some history, shared some stories and laughs, and spent some quality time soaking it all in. We really appreciated the time, and now I can hardly wait to actually take a train ride! Thanks & see you soon =)♡

5 hours I’ll never get back. This experience is definitely not for everyone. We were a group ranging from 13-40 and after the 1st hour were begging for it to be over. I completely understand that you can't please everyone but, I have a feeling that most of these good reviews are from people over the age of 60. The staff was nice and the ride was comfortable, though we did sit first class. Not being able to bring your own food and drinks seems unnecessary, especially when the box lunch is pretty terrible. One thing that needs to be addressed is the fact that they MAKE you switch sides. We did our research and ordered our tickets way in advance. We shouldn’t have to accommodate those who did not and waited till the last minute. The ones side of the train is essentially worthless and thus why we slept the last 2 hours back. We will never being doing to again.

We had a good time at the Conway Scenic railroad. We went on the Conway valley train for 55 minutes in the first class coach, Gertrude Emma. The seats face the windows and we found that unique and useful to see the beautiful views. The train ride lasts for 20 minutes, after which the engine shifts to the other end of the train and then returns back the same way. Since we visited on a weekday, we did not purchase the tickets in advance. The woman at the ticket counter was a bit slow with service and we were worried that we would miss the train, so maybe purchasing the tickets online would be better.
Tip: If you get a chance to pick the seats, do pick the ones on the opposite side of the train station for best views.
Parking is available free for 2 hours right outside the station. Restrooms are available in the train in 2 coaches.
It was a fun ride and a good experience, but I felt that it was pretty expensive for what it offers. So this will be a one time visit for us!

Lovely trip
We were in first class but we’re given two chairs to sit on (which were hard and not comfortable) instead of the more cushioned bench seats; our seats were the only two like this so they must have remove a bench for repair.
We ordered box lunches but they were not on the manifest when we arrived so we paid $54 fur two sandwiches, pretty expensive.
I have scored this 4 stars because the scenery was spectacular but they need to improve on the box lunch situation and they should give a first class comfortable seat which we paid for not two hard chairs. Windows on train were dirty so photos did not turn out very good.
Overall a good trip.

I expected a lot more scenery to be visible on a ride that offers a dome car. While there was a lot of snow to be seen, it was no more visible or stunning than seen from the car on the way to the location.
I found the whole experience to be underwhelming - the journey is short, and doesn't get out of the valley to afford the spectacular views that I anticipated.
The operation and ticketing of the train ride is slick and well run, but certainly not worth the price paid for dome-car viewing when the ride is merely a tame meander through woods, homesteads and across rivers, all accessible and visible from Route 16 by car.
Not recommended.
Update: The vendor's response tried to point out that this is marketed as a vintage train ride, yet the word SCENIC in their brochures and the provision of a dome car on a 'pedestrian' route with no elevation is misleading.
I strongly suggest you RE-NAME your enterprise the Conway HISTORIC railroad and remove the word SCENIC.
The Perkins Cove Rd is a picturesque and well-loved local street lined with shops and restaurants in the small town of Perkins Cove, Nova Scotia. The area is known for its natural beauty, offering stunning views of the ocean while also being close to many activities such as boating and fishing.
A quaint little sea side town. Sure, it’s mostly a tourist trap with all the shops, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t super fun and that I couldn’t find cute things. The smell of the ocean is amazing, and all the boats are amazing to watch folks work. Worth the visit. Plus, leads to the gorgeous Marginal Way.

Finally! I didn't have to be stuck in traffic in the summer to visit! I walked the Marginal Way trail from Stearns Rd, which isn't very far.
Enjoyable short walk around the Cove and across the bridge. Nice views of the ocean 🌊 and the fishing 🎣 vessels. I'm not certain how much parking 🅿️ is, but, space is limited and there is a parking 🅿️ meter to pay. Public restrooms available.
Restaurants and shoppes to check out. I only visited a cafe since my time was limited.
Go off season, end 🔚 of April, to avoid the crowds and go early.

Perkins Cove is a charming place to come shop for beautiful give, delicious food and nice people to talk to. They have a bridge the goes to the other side of a neighborhood, they will honk the horn from the boat coming in and whoever was on the draw bridge must open the bridge to let the boat cone through. It was beautiful to see the as well.
We are visiting from Oregon, and been to Perkins Cove quite a few years ago and just love it here in Ogunquit, Maine.

Incredible street. Definitely worth visiting then hitting the food and walking the Marginal Way.
Marginal Way is a picturesque mile-long walking trail that offers breathtaking coastal views and takes visitors through a charming village to a nearby beach. The trail, named for its location pressed between land and sea, provides 1.25 miles of winding paths with stunning vistas overlooking Ogunquit town and the Atlantic waves. At one end lies the sandy dunes of Ogunquit Beach, while at the other end awaits Perkins Cove, featuring boutiques, restaurants, candy shops, and a working fishing dock.
Hooligans Steak and Ale is a historic establishment located on The Pier in OOB, offering a unique blend of Irish pub vibes with a New England twist. Visitors can enjoy live entertainment including comedy shows and music performances. The pier itself features various shops, sports bars, and dining options, making it an exciting destination for tourists. While the food at Hooligans Steak and Ale is described as good, some find the portions to be small and prices somewhat high.
We love Old Orchard Beach. There were a few things open in April, but not much. It's worth mentioning, there aren't any public bathrooms open and neither are most of the restaurants. There were a few ice cream shops and a few other little trinket shops open. The pay and Park lots are also closed. There is limited amount of curbside parking and a few other places that have free parking. They do have 2 port-a-potties near the public bathroom if you're brave. Everything else opens May 1st. Regardless, the beach was wonderful as always.

This was our first time here. The walk out on the pier was crowded and entertaining! You can’t beat the ocean views. The restaurant had an extensive bar, no draft beer or bottles, only cans. I would say that is minor but my only fault we found. The atmosphere was beach like and old but it was not objectionable. The sliders were all open and there was a
Fantastic ocean breeze! Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. Another thing we enjoyed is we did not feel rushed out after we were done. We had nachos and beer. The nachos were very good and the serving was large. We will definitely go back when in the area.

Bring cash if you want to use a restroom. If you're nasty, or cheap, the water the ocean is right below you. Water is cold even mid summer so plan accordingly for the cold water and ocean breeze. If you're old, sensitive to the cold or have trouble rewarming, I would go as far as bringing a couple blankets to help you retain heat as you try to rewarm. Don't go trying to die on the beach and ruin the vibe for everyone. That would be pretty selfish. Bring more cash (or plastic) to spend on all the overpriced souvenirs, amusement, food & whatever else you want to throw it at. Right now, I saw parking near here between $25/day next to the beach or you can save yourself a little by walking a block or two for as low as $10/day for you thrifty types that don't mind walking 5 minutes or so. During the day the beach was very crowded even on a Tuesday. Around dinner time people start departing to go grab some grub and go elsewhere. Evening was much less crowded and enjoyable however the sun wasn't as warm so of course the water felt much cooler. Warning: this is at a beach, so you may see some people in significantly less clothes than you would like to see. Just be prepared because some things can't be unseen.

I guess being on the pier where there are thousands of people, qualify of food would be lacking. I loved the location, but the food was definitely disappointing. I had a Ruben ( it was too dry and salty), and my spouse had buffalo wings ( i guess we can't expect too much outside Buffalo, but they were absolutely soggy)
The best thing was the blueberry ale
Blue paw by Sea dog- absolutely amazing! It's so light and refreshing with the perfect hint of blueberry

My family and I recently went on a trip here on a recommendation made by my daughter. Seeing as the family I went with are from a different state and I had never been before, we were all pleasantly surprised to see that there were many activities for us to keep busy with. The beach was beautiful, while the water was shivering cold, once we got used to it we were able to make great memories here. The amusement park was great, all the rides and games that were available was well worth the 2 hour car trip that we had to take to get there. There are many shops along the sidewalks, all of which are in close proximity to each other and are filled with souvenirs for everyone. One thing that I think could be improved is the pricing of the general area. The restaurant and shops, while nice in quality and quantity, have some truly ridiculously expensive items. My daughter and sister ordered two burgers with fries and wings, the total was over 70 dollars. The food was pretty good, but the wait time and pricing for it definitely was not worth it. Keep in mind, not all shops are like this, but you definitely need to go often to figure out which shops are best for certain items. I also think that the fact there are no free public rest rooms is a little ridiculous. The staff was very nice, but we had to pay 50 cents every time we needed to go to the bathroom. Some other restrooms were 75 cents. It may not seem like a lot, but for the amount of people in my family, thats about 7 dollars added to the trip. Again, it may not seem like much, but parking was 35 dollars,(later on in the night it was reduced to 20) over 70 for food, 30 for beach toys, (a bucket and shovel and umbrella) and about 20 for 3 ice creams which actually was the most reasonably priced thing here (the portions were ginormous!) Over all, the trip was enjoyed by everyone I had brought with me and was very relaxing. I would 100% recommend to someone and I plan on going again next year!

Awesome experience! Maria was an amazing waitress! It may not seem like much to most people but when I ask for water along with my drink she brought my wife one as well. Came back frequently enough to make sure we were taken care of. And when we got our loaded nachos she even went back to let the guys in the kitchen know that we were very impressed. And kudos to the bartender because they make one hell of a drink.

Not your typical beach town Pier, at least from the ones we’ve been too. There’s all kinds of shops, sports bars and places to eat all on the actual pier itself, which was cool. FYI, the bathrooms are .75/ea to use, which we thought kind of strange. We walked all the way to the end of the pier, realized we were very hungry and we decided to order some food for dinner and sit sit out on the Sunset Deck of the Patio Pub at the end of the pier. Food is good, but is kind of pricey and portions are somewhat small. You’re basically paying for the atmosphere and the scenery. It’s a great place to people watch.

Portland Head Light is a significant historical landmark located in Fort Williams Park on Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Commissioned by President George Washington in 1791, it is the oldest among the 52 active lighthouses in Maine. The keepers' house has been transformed into a museum that tells the story of the region's maritime and military history.
You must visit this exquisite place. You will pay for parking but it's nominal, I think we paid $4 for a couple hours. Get the Passport Parking app and you can pay right from there. You are able to explore the grounds and get right up to the Lighthouse. The views are unbelievable especially in the winter. Although the last time we saw it was in July from a boat so I could be wrong! I believe the actual Lighthouse was closed when we went so we just explored the trails around it. There is a Cliff Walk which runs along the cliff's edge that you can take. Be careful in the snow; it's very slippery! There is also a sledding hill with perfect unobstructed views of the ocean. Additionally there are many flat snowy areas to build snowmen or have a snowball fight. In the summer I can imagine picnics or just strolling around to enjoy the views. The neighborhood it's located in has beautiful homes if you're like me and enjoy looking at dream homes.

Be prepared for absolutely stunning views of the ocean as far as your eyes can see, waves crashing against the jagged rocks of the cliffs and a beautifully restored historic lighthouse perched high above it all. This is definitely one that you want to see if in the area. It was quite busy on the weekend and we could hardly get any photos without a ton of people walking in them. If you really want some great views of this lighthouse, make sure to take the cliff side trail. It’s well worth the short time it takes and you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views.

This place is beautiful. Free to get in to the park, just pay for parking ($2). Well maintained and worth the visit no matter what time of year. There is also a small swimming beach, an old fort to explore, and plenty of open grassy areas where I often see families playing with kids and dogs. Great spots for photo shoots. Plus there’s usually at least one food truck on the property.

This is our second trip to this iconic lighthouse (built in 1791), which is noted to be the most photographed lighthouse in the country. It is stunning, and no matter how many times you visit, you will stand in awe of how majestic it is. We have visited at least 50 to 75 lighthouses, and if I could only visit one knowing what I know now, it would be this one. A lighthouse is not to be overlooked.
Concession stands abound in case you get there and you forget to pack a picnic lunch.
There is plenty of paid parking.

This is attached to Fort Williams park. I made a post about the Park and all the comments apply to this post as well.
In addition, you can walk up to the lighthouse and see some historical markers, and the building and FOG HORN up close.
Unfortunately the BIG HORN did not blast while we were standing there but I imagine it would be loud and scare children and little dogs 🤣
The building is well maintained and the views are really stunning. We saw some sea birds in the ocean waters diving underwater but not much other sea life from atop the cliffs.
Bring a nice camera for the views and take plenty of photos.

Large expansive park with beautiful views and plenty of walking paths to occupy anyone for hours. Just go to walk or learn some local history of this area. It was very important during wartime and beyond. In the past there was a self sustaining community equipped with everything from a hospital to a swimming pool! Plenty of parking and easy to navigate around the area but couldn’t find any maps for the trails.

Beautiful picturesque light house with cool looking rocks facing the ocean. Before the lighthouse there was a hilly area where people had sleighs and were having fun. There was plenty parking and since it was a holiday, no one was attending the parking lot. I loved the color of the lighthouse and it had a beautiful view. I highly recommend coming either in the winter for sledding or in the summer for BBQ.

Historic lighthouse located in a huge park with walking trails. There were three spots right by the lighthouse that were free parking, while the other lots were paid parking (via a parking app). Came here on a Wednesday and it was raining so there weren’t too many other people there. The museum wasn’t open when we went, but it was still cool to see the lighthouse from various angles. It’s a very picturesque spot.
If you walk along the trail (compact dirt track), you’ll come across a mansion as well as another area where you could picnic. There were also portapotties by the picnic area. The beach is rocky so wear comfy shoes if you’re planning on talking a stroll. There are benches along the trail if you want to sit and have a main character moment.
Overall, a great sight for first-timers and tourists.

Really nice spot to enjoy the view.
There is a rocky area you can walk on and sit by the water, or walk on a dirt road with a bunch of benches.
There is a parking lot for cars, and some electric charging stations. However, you have to download an app and there is no signal there so you have to walk around to get signal first then charge.
The staff is kind, and there is an ice cream truck nearby.

If you opt out of the museum it's free to roam about the park. It was a lightly rainy day and it was lovely. Make sure to bring a warm jacket for that cool breeze. The staff was super sweet. If you need to use the restroom the only ones are the porta potties around the parking lot. Enjoy a nice walk around and take plenty of pictures.

The lighthouse is beautiful. It is free to visit. There are lots of people visiting and taking photos. You couldn't go inside when we visited, but I don't know if there are times of the year when you can go inside. There are portable pottys there, which people were using, but I didn't, so I can't speak to how clean they were. There are walking trails on either side of the lighthouse, so you can see it from different vantage points as well. It's very pretty overall and I really enjoyed the visit. If you are in the area and get a chance to go, you should definitely go.

Beautiful piece of history. They have a nice trail that goes all the way around the park. I love that aside from EXTREMELY dangerous cliffs they haven’t completely blocked off rock or water access. They have the warnings but leave it up to you and your own common sense to decide if you want to venture out. There are history markers all over the place telling tourists the history of the place while many of the old out buildings are still accessible for adventuring. The only one you can’t go into is the old mansion but it’s literally a safety and liabilities issue. They haven’t put the dense so far around it that you can’t see into it. Had an amazing time!

🌊Beautiful View - Nature Trails, Flowers, Lighthouse🌊
I visited the Portland Head Lighthouse during a bus tour stop (and only regret not having even *more* time to enjoy the outdoors). This location served as a military based until 1964, and is now maintained by the Cape Elizabeth Historical Preservation Society.
The wind coming off of the ocean is so refreshing. Every angle of the lighthouse is photogenic. There's also a series of walking paths that branch away from the lighthouse (Fort Williams Park), including picnic benches, shady trees, flowers, and views of the ocean. If you're able to get out to the coastline, do it. The view, the weather, and the sense of calm are all well worth it.

We absolutely loved this place! There's so much to see, the price was very reasonable. I really enjoyed the honey bee demonstration the entomologist/bee keeper was super knowledgeable, wish I could remember his name to give him a shout out. They are also very handicap accessible which was great for my mother-in-law. They had at least 6-7 mobility scooters and wheelchairs as needed. You can see a large portion of the park on the scooters. Some sections are inaccessible by scooter but they have a shuttle to take you to those areas.

This botanical garden is stunning - so many places to explore on the grounds - flowers, shrubs, trees for all seasons. My favorite parts of the garden were the larger-than-life trolls tucked into corners throughout the property. Their stories were delightful and reminded me of my childhood. There was also a charming, whimsical fairy village, which every visitor can work on. There's a lot of walking involved, but shuttle buses come by often to pick you up if needed. I hope to make my way back there in the winter, during their light show I bet it is spectacular.

I would like to note, the shuttle service was awesome! The drivers were all very accommodating and would come around every couple minutes to pick up points, which had benches. We had two little ones in our group and my father is an amputee, It was so nice to have a reliable shuttle as an option when we needed a break from walking.

Absolutely beautiful! Great for all ages! My son and I spent four hours here and can't wait to come back! Highly recommend bug spray and sunscreen! Cafe food is pricey so better off packing your own. Overall it was a great experience!

The gardens are very well thought out, so many amazing flowers and plants I’d never seen before. Staff was so knowledgeable and willing to help.
We went when it had rained most of the day and we were still able to have a great time. For those with mobility issues, calling ahead can be beneficial to have a guided tour. There is a shuttle system that makes this experience enjoyable for everyone.

Lovely little botanical gardens. I was there in October and it was still so pretty. I can only imagine what this place would look like in the summer! If you are in the area, I would say it is definitely worth a stop. I spent a little over and hour but I was in a bit of a hurry. You could easily spend a few here.

I have been meaning to go here for years and so glad I finally did! Such a wonderfully expansive property with so much to see! If you're at all fond of plants like myself then this is a must visit. The grounds are absolutely beautiful filled with so many wonderful flowers and plants. Not to mention they have 5 Trolls by the super talented Thomas Dambo! Have wanted to see his work for years and seeing them in person is awe inspiring! Absolutely cant wait to go back again!

The Gardens Aglow event is spectacular! I would highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance as they sell out quickly! Kudos to the Botanical Gardens crew for their efforts to cap the crowds by only allowing certain number of people in. Because... It gets crowded really fast! And the kids are uncontrollable! Some parenting needs to happen because what I saw was beyond my wildest fears. Anyway, only a portion of the gardens is open for this event but you do get to see two of the trolls, which is cool! I would go with the earliest hour (I think it is 4pm) to get a bit of daylight and to also enjoy the lights after dark. Layer up! And even though the paths are well maintained, it gets muddy really quick! Definitely, I mean it is a must, to stop and get the Wild Blueberry Crisp! Don't know who came up with that, but it is Delicious!!! Popcorn is also sold on the way. It takes about an hour if you stop and take photos, or a couple of hours, if you leisurely walk and rest on the benches along the way. Worth a visit!!! Ah, remember what parking lot you parked at, they have letters assigned to them, so you don't wander around afterwards.

Such a nice relaxing environment. If you go during the weekend, reservations would be required. We didn't know but arrived at 9am on a Tuesday. Employee said they were not booked. So we lucked out. Very pretty landscaped garden. The trails were nice and wide. Markers labeling paths were noticeable. Employees wandering the property always said hello and asked if we needed any guidance. They gave a map when we entered which was detailed. Going in the fall was nice but I think I would have liked to go when a lot of the plants were in bloom. Finding the trolls were fun. Lots of rest stops along the way. Seemed like a lot of fun things to do for kids.

We had a great time here. Went with my girls age 3&5 in the later part of the day. Earlier in the day there are kids activities so don’t miss those like we did.
It was a lot of walking for my 3 year old but my 5 year old kept up and was excited to find all 5 trolls. She enjoyed the puzzle and finding the clues.
Cafe had a nice variety of snacks and pre-made sandwiches and salads (although a little pricey- $13 for a ham and cheese sandwich with lettuce and tomato). I’d recommend bringing a picnic if allowed as there’s plenty of scenic seating.
What really stood out to me during our visit were the park employees. Every single one was so kind and helpful and willing to entertain a conversation with my inquisitive 5 year old. I appreciate how each troll has an attendant to help with photos and keep the park guests moving. The shuttle around the park was also extremely helpful for tired legs big and small.
Overall it was a beautiful day and experience and I would definitely make the drive to come back here in the future. Really cool spot with lots of educational opportunities. Gardens are extremely well kept, you can tell there’s pride of ownership here. Clean bathroom facilities.

A very calming place to just walk around and see nature, my favorite part has to be the pond, it has frogs, turtles and even your occasional dragonfly. It's a good place to go if you have kids that want to explore nature more. They have a few trails that you can walk on too, they give off more of a woods feeling than the other stuff in the park. They even have a cafe where you can get food and drinks!

Very nice park. We thought it was going to be a little more ocean costal but it was up against a river. The park is very big and has shuttles going around it pretty often giving people rides. Very well maintained and all people there were nice. Lots of flowers and some cool hiking trails to walk along as well. Overall a good experience and if you enjoy gardens feel free to go there.

This is the most amazing Botanical Garden in New England. It spans over a great amount of land, allowing for hiking and an all day trip to cover the entire ground. The entire place is well maintained and just absolutely gorgeous to sit and relax with nature. There are plenty of restrooms throughout and reasonable food options.
I would recommend getting there early as parking fills up quickly.

I have wanted to see Gardens aglow at Maine Botanical Gardens for a while, well, I finally got tickets this year! To say the least, this experience was definitely worth the 3 and a half hour drive up, I would give it 100/10 stars if I could! Gardens aglow was incredible, you round a corner and it just gets better and better! Not to mention the kettle corn, cafe AND the best fresh blueberry crisp/blueberry juice that scattered throughout the light path! I am just blown away as this was absolutely incredible and wayyy exceeded my expectations!! I will definitely be coming back next year with a few more people!! Thank you for all the hard work you all do to make this incredible experience for all of us!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good weekend getaway to see the Holiday lights. Get tickets in advance a month or so since slots fill up quick. Parking is decent but could get bad if choosing later times other than 4pm opening slot. Decent display of lights, get to see some troll sculptures also! Only thing bad is most paths are muddy if weather is wey, make sure to wear waterproof boots and bundle up as it can get windy in winter time.

Love this place! Great experience for everyone of all ages! We’ve been during the spring time and just went for the Aglow nights. During the spring, there is a lot more of the grounds to visit and you can’t forget the trolls! (My favorite part!) During the winter, they put up holiday lights and shorten the paths to make it roughly 1 mile to walk around.
The trolls are by an overseas artist(cannot recall name or place but they have a pamphlet with the info!). The head is created there then brought to the US and the bodies built from recycled materials! You can climb on the legs and they make for great photo ops. Usually everyone is very kind to take your picture if you ask! They also have a kids play area with a cute treehouse, a little mushroom hidden house, some musical toys, and some other things! During the warmer months you can easily spend 3+ hours here!
The grounds are always well manicured. We’ve seen the gardeners working and planning the layout a couple times, which was so neat! They also have a little butterfly house in the spring.
There is also a gift shop, restrooms, a little cafe with hot dogs, cookies, fudge, chips, drinks, etc. They had hot coco for $3 (small cup, maybe 5-7oz) during the winter lights too. During the spring/summer, there is a little trolley you can ride from stop to stop which is nice if you get tired or need more accommodation. I do recommend buying tickets in advance as they sell out sometimes! Especially the Aglow lights! The parking lot is nice and spacious and we’ve never had a problem finding parking! Sometimes you just have to walk a little bit (~2-8 minutes, depending on spot).

Always a good experience. However, the amount of people there made it hard to enjoy all of the aspects of Gardens Aglow. Long lines for photos with the trolls and the kids area. If it were warmer, we would have waited in line. No fault of the Botanical Gardens.

This place is beautiful and educational and fun! Great way to spend the day with your family. Bring comfortable shoes as it's a lot of walking on trails. There is a shuttle bus for those that need it. Buy a bottle of water from them. It's refillable and free to refill. There are filling stations but they aren't clearly marked. There is so much to see and explore here. Big enough to come back multiple times to enjoy it.

This was one of the best Christmas light shows I’ve ever been to. The gardens were beautiful and the lights were amazing. It was super rainy when we were there but there were a ton of people visiting. If I’m ever in the area around Christmas, I will be back.
The Mount Battie Trail is a picturesque hiking path that stretches for about a mile and offers the perfect opportunity to see seasonal wildflowers. Although it is steep when starting from town, one can enjoy better views of the Penobscot Bay and Camden by taking the trail from Camden Hills State Park. The trail itself is stunning, with great views that provide a beautiful backdrop for hikers. It's also an excellent option for families with children who want to explore and experience nature together.
This is a solid tourist attraction. There are lots of options here for pretty much everyone. You can drive all the way to the top and there is easy access to the views from parking lot. Also there are bathrooms at the top which aren’t terrible. There are also options to hike all the way from the bottom, or various points a long the trail. It isn’t a hard trail, but there are a lot of rock scrambles, if rainy it could be pretty slick.

I will start this by saying this area is a state park. So there is a fee but it's not an arm and a leg. Also for those who like camping there is a campground at the base. That said, let's continue...
Now two ways to get to the top of Mt. Battie. You can walk up, or you can be like me and drive up. I've done enough walking for the last 65 years:) Parking though will accommodate around 30 cars. And I'll be honest that's just a guess.
So once you're up there you get one of the best views of Camden harbor and Rockland that you could ever ask for. Also there is a small observation tower you can go up to get an extended view. If you're lucky you can watch eagles sailing on the up draft and they float around for a bit.
I would suggest bringing up a lawn chair. A lot of people don't and just walk around for a few minutes then leave. The best part is to sit and take it all in.
So if you're up in the area stop by. You won't be disappointed.

We come up here almost every year. Boring? Maybe. Or maybe we just found the perfect laid back, outdoorsy, dog friendly place in the USA to unwind and recharge.
The Reversing Falls is a renowned natural attraction located in Saint John City. This attraction is famous for its tidal rapids on the Saint John River, which offers an excellent opportunity for whitewater kayaking enthusiasts. The observation deck also provides an ideal spot to view this spectacular phenomenon. The Bay of Fundy's high tides, among the highest in the world, can result in significant variations from high to low tide of up to 16 meters or about five-story building equivalent.
No other visitors were here.
This is as seen in Wie is de Mol 2003 Episode 4.
It is quite the natural wonder to see. It is about a 45 minute walk from the hotel district of Saint John.
It's cool to just stand here and watch the water move.

It's unfortunate that such a rare natural phenomena plays second fiddle to things like the Irving paper and pulp company. It's a very interesting event to experience, but a pretty wretched environment to experience it in. A wrong turn into the private company lot showed there's so much more that's not visible from the public locations either

Tourist trap. Really boring views of something that is not that impressive. Party of the tour. Owner of the restaurant wouldn't let anyone just the bathroom despite having a tourist information sign on there. Seems shady. I could understand, but maybe take out the tourist sign or add out door stalls. My last favorites part of the tour

This is a must see. It’s important to take every at opportunity to learn from nature as you can. On top of that it’s pretty cool, and the view is great. The city really needs to figure out how to make it easier to navigate to the tourist facility because vehicles are consistently driving through the mill, which is unsafe..
Theresa Finn — Google review
This is a must-see when traveling in the area. It is not often that you can see a river change course, but that is exactly what happens here several times a day. At high tide, the Bay of Fundy forces the river to flow backward, then at low tide, it changes course and flows outward. This doesn't happen quickly. You will have to stick around for a while to see this.
Kenneth Davis — Google review
Reversing Falls Rapids is a Natural Wonder, also is the world’s greatest example of tidal impact upon a river.
Twice each day 100 billion tons of water, a volume equal to all of the world’s rivers … enters and exits the Bay of Fundy. At this location, water levels rise as much as 9 meters or 28 feet in a tidal cycle. Reversing Falls Rapids experiences two tidal cycles daily resulting in 2 low tides and 2 high tides. Each complete cycle is roughly 12 hours and 10 minutes. Between the tidal extremes is a calm period known as “slack tide”, this condition lasts for just 20 minutes and is the only time vessels can safely pass through the gorge.
Interestingly, five thousand years ago, sea level was 30 meters or 100 feet lower in this area. Native people living here at that time enjoyed an impressive waterfall!
Yen Yuan — Google review
A waste of time. Yes, this is a tidal river, but not with the visible force or volume many have written about, but perhaps with the spring melt-off.
We visited in early May, waited for high tide and were immediately disappointed.
Seems to be a bit of a tourist trap, and not worth the wait, or delay in your trip to other parts.
Can't recommend.

We went and saw the water going over the falls the first day. There was actually a drop, hard to tell the actual height, of maybe 15 to 25 feet. Went there the next day and the water was going the other way. Went through a neighborhood to get a different view. There was a seal going with the flow. Looked like a labrador retriever out there floating along, but it would go under water for several minutes and reappear.
Tom Rueb — Google review
Reversing Falls Rapids is one of the few things to see in Saint John. Caused by the highest tides in the world in the Bay of Fundy, the river flow reverses and causes the "rapids." You can view the falls twice a day at low and high tide from the Fallsview Park viewpoint, on the Reversing Falls Bridge, or another vantage point that offers a bird's-eye view of the river gorge.

Fundy National Park is a remarkable destination that showcases the beauty of Canada's natural landscapes. Nestled along the Bay of Fundy, this park offers a unique experience with its fascinating tidal phenomenon. The water levels here rise and fall dramatically, creating an ever-changing coastal environment that is both captivating and awe-inspiring.
One of the highlights of visiting Fundy National Park is witnessing the dramatic tidal changes firsthand. The sight of the water level rising and falling is truly mesmerizing, and it offers a glimpse into the powerful forces of nature at work. This tidal activity also creates a dynamic ecosystem, supporting a diverse range of plant and animal life.
Aside from the tidal phenomenon, Fundy National Park boasts stunning scenery and a variety of outdoor activities. Visitors can explore the park's numerous hiking trails, which meander through lush forests, along rugged coastlines, and past picturesque waterfalls. The park is also home to a number of beautiful beaches, perfect for relaxing or taking a refreshing dip in the ocean.
Overall, Fundy National Park is a wonderful place to visit for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Its unique tidal phenomenon, stunning scenery, and diverse wildlife make it a must-see destination in Canada.

Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park, also known as Flowerpot Rocks due to its natural pinnacles and arches, is a coastal park located in Hopewell Cape within the Bay of Fundy. The rocks have been eroded into twisted shapes by the sea and are an other-worldly sight to behold. At low tide, a two-kilometre beach appears on what was once the ocean floor, providing easy access to the 20 wave-formed stacks via a wheelchair-accessible ramp.
The are breathtaking.
We arrived around 1 and the tide was still out. We didn’t mind, but it would have been nice to see how far out it goes so if you want to do that then plan accordingly. The walk to the rocks is about 10 minutes depending how fast you walk(might be about 15 if you’re a bit slower). It is a little bit of an uphill walk back up. We stayed around and ate at the cafe while we waited for high tide at 4:30. It seems like a fair amount of time to stay at the rocks.
Highly recommend!

You do not need to book tickets in advance like Tobermory!!!
There is a huge parking lot available free of cost.
Approximately 35 dollars to get it and if you want the shuttle it's 2 dollars per person one way.
It's a steep descent and the shuttle is highly recommended for older people or for those with disabilities.
The shuttle runs every 5 minutes and is a lovely joyride.
The park is well setup with trails and off course the rocks.
They have bathrooms and a very nice gift shop on location.
There is also a museum in the main building where you can learn all about Hopewell Rocks.
The rocks themselves are a great experience where you can walk on the ocean floor during low tide and come back later during high tide to see water gushing all over where you were during low tide.
Fantastic picture spot and I sure did go crazy clicking away.
It's a lot of stairs down though to the ocean floor - so be prepared.
They do have vantage points in case you cannot use the stairs.
I believe there is both a low and high tide everyday.

Very cool experience in NB about 45 minutes from Moncton. It was interesting to walk on the ocean floor and then see the tide rise and make such a difference in 10 minutes!
We arrived at around 10am in July when the low tide was around 8am. Even then the tide was quite far out from all the rocks and we leisurely explored for over 2 hours. The high tide was around 2pm but at noon there was still lots of time to explore the floor.
I suggest you wear either sandals or waterproof shoes as it does get quite muddy in areas. I wore sneakers and they did get dirty but there’s a large shoe cleaning area at the top of the stairs to help everyone wash off.
Parking is abundant with one of the largest parking lots of maritime attractions. There is also quite a large gift shop and exhibit in the building just past the gates. All the staff was very friendly and was more than happy to answer your questions and talk about the ecosystem that you’re walking through.
The site is pet friendly and also very accessible. There are mandatory metal stairs to the ocean floor but there are multiple view points for people with mobility issues.
This is a must see attraction in the province! Even at around $16 per person (+$2 for a shuttle to skip a 15 minute walk) I would say it was a very cool experience

Beautiful place.. but when going, make sure you know when the tides are in and out, the first time we went it was high, we weren't allowed to go down . We took our receipt back and we were able to go down the next morning. I recommend that you pay the 2$ or use a token to use the shuttle.
Mornings are best.. have fun

Exceptional natural beauty. Absolutely recommended. Visit at low tide if you want to walk between the rocks. Check their website for tide tables.
We walked down to the Flower Pot. The trail there is about 1 km and has a gentle slope that should be doable for most people. From the platform you can take a staircase with a few flights of steps down to the beach itself.
Once at the beach, I recommend first walking to the right until the end, which is a few hundred yards over stones or slightly muddy patches, then walking back, continuing past the staircase and walking to the far left end of the beach where a ramp takes you back up to the trail. This way you will see all the rocks.
Given the soil, I recommend wearing walking shoes or Wellington boots.
If you prefer not to walk, there is a paying shuttle service from the park entrance down to the viewing platforms. A one-way trip costs 2 CA$ per person and toddlers are free.
People in wheelchairs can ask the park attendants to get access to the parking near the beach. Getting down to the beach itself is possible via a wheelchair accessible ramp (the same one as described higher) but riding a wheelchair on the beach itself will probably not be possible.

This was pretty cool to see, make sure to arrive at or near low tide as this is the best time to be able to walk around and appreciate how far the tide is out, very interesting to see. As the tide comes in the staff start to close off areas of the beach that are starting to flood. we watched for a while and then came back latter when the tide was all the way in, A great way to see the extremes. There is a shuttle of sorts if you want to take it bring cash. Gift store etc., bathrooms, nice walk to the staircase going down to the sea shore. Highly recommend 2-4 hours

Very much a must do if you are in the area..even if its raining. Just remember to come at low tide. Picnic areas and restroom in the parking lot. Good food in the cafeteria. Really nice staff. On a sunny day the $2 per person shuttle may be worth it on the way back, but in the rain it was very much welcomed both ways. Memories will be made here and are a requirement.

This is totally worth every dollar to go! The view is amazing and even though it is busy there are more than enough opportunities to take fantastic photos. The hike / walk down to the rocks takes about 15 minutes and there is a shuttle that takes your down to the top of the stairs. You still have to take the 99 stairs down to the bottom! There is another area that does have a ramp to go down. At the rocks you will need to walk. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting muddy! Pets are allowed and no extra cost. There is an additional coat for the shuttle. It is $2 per person per trip and dogs are allowed on the shuttle. The line up to get in goes quick! Make sure you check the tide schedule before you go. We went August 2, 2022 from 10:30 am till 12 pm.

There's free parking. The park has these walking trails. You got to pay the admission fee to get in. There's a shuttle buses service to get to the part where you're able to walk down the stairs I assume. There are toilets along the trail pathways.
Depending on when you go, they have different opening and closing times. We went in the earlier dates so the times were from 9 am to 5 pm. You can still enter the park even after the 5 pm closing time. You don't need to pay. And there is still parking available outside of the gates. But, you may not be able to walk the ocean floor, or have enough time to enjoy your walk of the ocean floor (and to take lots of photos).
Pretty looking rocks at high tide. Nice scenery. There are multiple lookouts to see the rocks and the nearby scenery.
3:00/3:30 pm for the day that we went, we walkes on the ocean floor. And we took many photos of the Flower Pot Rocks. We took photos of the other rocks, whose names I don't remember. We walked back and forth on the ocean floor, over rocks, through mud, and through watery mud.
It's recommended to bring and wear boots, like those rain boots, hiking boots, winter boots.

The guide we talked to was informative inside the information building. Told us about the wildlife and about the Hopewell rocks.
Would recommend you spend the day here, to see the rocks in high tide/low tide and to see the rocks when there's no tide.

Great park. Fair entry valid for a couple days so you can experience both high and low tides.
The main hub area has play modules for kids. It's well maintained.
Gift shop and washrooms also available.
If you're going down to the Flower Pot Rocks, I'd recommend wearing shoes you don't care to dirty as they'll likely get mud on them. If they do, they have hoses and scrubs to clean your shoes at the top of the stairs.
Breathtaking views.

I loved everything about it! Admittedly seeing the extreme tidal change at the Bay of Fundy has been on my bucket list for a long time, finally getting to experience it did not disappoint. I definitely recommend the guided sea kayaking tour at high tide, but be sure to experience the difference at low tide either before or after, it's amazing!
Nathan Lemieux — Google review
Amazing day. Sun is out nice breeze blowing. Highly recommend this stop if in the area. The tide was going out, so there was a lot of mud but so worth going for a walk and seeing the shoreline. We spent 2.5 hours here before we knew it. I suggest going early to avoid crowds.

Hopewell Rocks offers breathtaking views, allowing you to witness the mesmerizing tides ebb and flow—a truly awe-inspiring display of nature's power. The sheer volume of water is a sight to behold. Keep in mind, though, that booking kayaks in advance is crucial to fully explore this remarkable coastal gem. Despite missing out on that, the stunning vistas alone make it a worthwhile destination for any nature enthusiast.

Absolutely amazing! The hike down was marked well. They offer a shuttle if you can't walk the 10 minute hike to the staircase. Your ticket is good for 2 days and you can come and go as many times as you would like. The walk along the beach/ocean floor was picture perfect. Wish I could have seen it at high tide as well.

Really beautiful and unique experience. Definitely recommend visiting. The earlier you go, the less busy it’ll be; the parking lot fills up pretty quickly!

This place is a must see! The views are amazing. We went at low tide and were able to enjoy walking through the rocks and walking to the water. It's super muddy when you go at low tide so wear old shoes or sandals. There is beautiful trails with lots of plants and fungus to see. You can also shuttle to and from the top. At the entrance to the experience there is a gift shop and tiny educational museum. We had a great experience.

Beautiful park, well worth a visit. Walk the bay floor at low tide . Experience the bay of Fundy up close. Check tide schedule before heading out to make sure you arrive at the right time. Ticket is valid for 2 days so you can experience it during low and high tide. Hike down to the bay or pay extra and take to golf cart ( great option for those with mobility issues or tight timelines) $2 each way for the cart . To get to the bottom completely there are several sets of stairs ,there is a viewing platform for those you cant make the trek down . There is also a more accessible beach down the way but doesn't have all the interesting rock formations. Pay attention to the times of tides , if you get stranded your rescue will cost you a pretty penny. Restaurant and nice gift shop with a kids playground located at the top near the parking lots. Lots of bathrooms along the way. Good boots recommended as it's get muddy walking around . Boot cleaning station available.

well groomed walking trails that are accessible. portable toilets along the route washroom available at start and end of trail. foot wash station for after your visit to the ocean floor.
gift shop and restaurant in the main building.
loads of parking.
park pass allows multiple reentry even on the following day.

An incredible few hours spend here witnessing the lowest part of the tide, to start, with the gorgeous sunshine and gentle breeze… plus getting covered in mud, but that’s all part of the fun and adventure. Don’t go wearing your best shoes and clothes if you want to walk on the ocean floor.
We stayed long enough to then with was the high tide coming in until it reached its maximum, what a dramatic effect and difference it is, completely changing the landscape, it’s incredible and makes for some stunning pictures.
Be sure to check out the view points for gorgeous as well as the tranquil Plage de Demoiselles Beach.

The Halifax Public Gardens is a beautiful oasis located in the heart of the city. It features manicured lawns and gardens that have been used for weddings and photo shoots, as well as being a great spot to relax and people-watch. The gardens include a variety of plants from different climates which line the paths.
With a beautiful garden such as the Halifax Public Gardens, I honestly don’t understand why Halifax isn’t a bigger travel destination than it is. This park is absolutely stunning, especially in springtime. With the trees blooming and the tulips out, you are never going to have an unremarkable time here 🌷🌸✨

Beautiful garden and maintained very well! The paths are easy to walk on. The flowers were in full bloom. There were people just taking a stroll, sitting on park benches, or grabbing a bite with friends/coworkers. Great place to eat outside. I can imagine locals coming here for daily walks. There are probably events held at the park as well during the summer. So glad I got to visit while I was in Halifax!

A very beautiful garden in the heart of the city.. All the flowers are neatly planted and colourful display everywhere ranging from annuals, tropicals and perennials all combined in amazingly arranged flower beds for people to enjoy. No dogs allowed.there’s very old fountains around and planted trees to commemorate special occasions from coronations to being the leaders of uprising against enemies. Etc etc etc. accessible almost any point in the city that surrounds the garden.

It's nice. But the ice cream cafe was closed, maybe it's working in summer... We take some beautiful pictures and spend a nice time together.

A must-visit for visitors to the city. Even though I visited in October, there were still lots of flowers in the gardens. There was a dahlia showing which was a pretty presentation of colourful blooms. Prepare to spend at least an hour strolling through the gardens, more time needed if you are going to the coffee shop.

Stunning display of Victorian gardens, carefully laid out and well tended for public enjoyment. Tours are offered and Volunteers are available to answer questions. A small coffee shop offers lighter fare for a snack. Test rooms are also available on site. Lovely bridges and meandering water features are planted with lovely trees, shrubs, and flowers.
A must see for the garden enthusiast.

The public gardens are absolutely beautiful! It's quiet and calm in the morning. If you get there as it opens, you can find many sleepy adorable ducks! The flower displays are gorgeous, I especially enjoyed finding the indigenous games garden display.
Highly recommend!

This garden is a true public gem. When looking for ways to improve the quality of life of their residents, other cities should be looking at this garden for inspiration. Each time I visit Halifax, I aim to come here, as this garden is gorgeous.

If you are seeking a serene experience in the middle of the hustle and bustle this is the perfect place to stop by!
Everywhere you look you are surrounded by beauty here. From the tree lined pathways, the flower designs, pond, gazebo or even the water fountain that has been there since Queen Victoria 👸 There is so much for the eyes to capture.
Kids will love it here too as there are ducks, fish and other critters for them to get excited about here.
I do recommend taking the time to read the various signs that explain the rich history of these gardens. There are even signs that explain the various trees and vegetation around the garden too.
Street parking can be a bit scarce, but there is underground parking near the main entrance that is relatively inexpensive. We paid $6 for 3 or 4 hours.
I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to experience these gardens.

The public gardens is a nice addition to the middle of the city. When you’re inside it doesn’t even really feel like you’re in a city. This summer they had a little garden of different flower types that I hadn’t noticed in previous years. It’s a great spot to sit by the water and watch the ducks with a coffee or lunch.

So beautiful, peaceful, clean, well maintained garden, free walk-in, parking on the street $1.50/hr. Public Wifi available. Even on a hot day, nice breeze inside the garden. Grab a sandwich and a drink, find a bench with shade by the water, enjoy your meal, take nap if you want 🤣 keep the area clean. #animals are not scared of human presence

Visited mid-June and the park was a riot of color and gorgeous trees and bushes. Some of the beds were still waiting to be planted, but the grounds are quite beautiful, with the pond being a great feature. I liked how the trees were labeled as well. Great place to stroll with a coffee before starting your day.

It is definitely the most beautiful garden in Hslifax, and probably one of the most beautiful in Canada. It is very popular with locals, is very well maintained, and there are posts with the names of flowers written, so you can actually learn about the flower you are seeing.
The park was built in the second half of the nineteenth century and has been kept in the same Victorian style.

Nice park in the middle of the city, wish we had more time to walk through it. Lots of flowers in the summer and green grass. There’s a body of water and lots of trees and pathways. There’s a water fountain, some statues, and it’s a gated park. Quaint location. Parking is free after 6PM around the park.
The Halifax Citadel National Historic Site is a star-shaped hilltop fort that offers guided tours and a coffee bar & gift shop. It is located in the city of Halifax and has been part of Canada's national parks system since it was created in 1749. The fortress has been used to defend the city from attack, and today, it is popular with ghost tour participants who can hear tales of bizarre legends on one of the citadels popular ghost tours.
A must visit of you are in the city. Be there before 12 noon to watch the noon gun firing! Lots of historic buildings, great ity views and very nice guided tour provided. The museum inside the fort has a lot of interesting artifacts, uniforms and a huge variety of guns covering different eras. Nice gift shop too. You can easily spend 3-4 hours to see everything.

Definitely one of the most popular things to do in Halifax! Highly recommend arriving around 11:00 a.m. as this will allow you to see the canon fired at noon and the changing of the guard at 1:00 followed shortly by a musket demonstration. We found that this was perfect timing. There are lots of History college students who are employed to tell you about the area so questions are easily answered. Also fun that they are dressed in time period attire. If you will plan on watching the canon, instead of lining up right next to it I would suggest going across the way. The explosion is still enough for you to feel and you will get a much better view. However, you will not be able to hear the explanation of what is going on that is given by one of the employees.

The people who work here are very knowledgeable and you can learn a lot from them. They also have soldiers who wear the traditional wool outfits and honestly bless them. It’s so hot and they have to wear all this gear in such hot weather. Some interactive spots and there is one area which is air conditioned. Would recommend going to the bathroom prior to coming as there a few bathrooms. Fill up a water bottle and watch your step.

Excellent experience! The Halifax Citadel Society does a phenomenal job of presenting the history of not only the citadel but also the Halifax Harbour and area. The young people who work here are very knowledgeable in interpreting the history and talented in displaying the military drill and firearms. The piping band played on and off and sounded incredible and just set the tone. The exhibits were very well put together and there were many hands on activities to learn a lot. I absolutely loved my visit and could've spent more time but had to catch the ferry back to Dartmouth (which is also a great experience)!

For a Labour Day Monday, it wasn’t too busy.
The concept of the site is quite intriguing. A fair amount of history behind in.
In terms of location, it’s right downtown so very easy to get to.
I really enjoyed the war museum, lots of great artifacts, weaponry and interesting stories I wasn’t aware of from WW1 and WW2.
I do wish there were a bit more self-guided tour options though. I think there was a map we could have used but the ticket sale team didn’t really seem to tell us much. The interactive ‘kiosks’ I did see on the museum didn’t seem to be working anyways.

Much visit if you are interested in the history of Halifax harbour and old fort built to defend Halifax port. There is an army museum inside the citadel. Three times a day there are guided tours to explain different parts of the citadel.

You can spend at least 3 hours here visiting this incredible historic site with its city views. There are regular displays and instances of what life was like here under colonial British rule. You can see the changing of the guard and watch troop drills in full historical accurate costumes .
There is a very interesting museum with loads of interesting facts and stories. There's a lovely Cafe which you can take what will be a welcome break after walking the ramparts. Probably more interesting for us men or boys. Suggest the ladies go shopping 🥺

Such a nice experience. I'm glad I went and visited. There's so much history.....I didn't take the guided tour but I read, read, and read when I was in the museum. (I would suggest the ticket counter provide information regarding the time of the guided tour, because I would gladly join)
The historical background of the cidatel is so interesting, this tour has enabled me to understand Nova Scotia in a profound way.

It's easy to see why this is THE signature attraction of Halifax. As first-timers to the city, this was first on the list - we were all enthused to see Canadian history unfold before us as we climbed the steps up the hill. The actors are very much into what they do, and the exhibits are very detailed. It even has a special exhibit on the D-day landing, as we know several vessels left Halifax for the event. We stayed for the 12noon cannon blast, which was spectacular. Even when leaving the fortress, we once again admired the view out over Halifax - you can't beat this place for the perfect panoramic vista!

Beautiful tourist spot. There are many rooms with historical monuments, museum exhibits and movie theaters. You can learn a lot of history about Halifax from its very beginnings. The staff fulfills their duties and tries to make the arrival here as comfortable as possible. Sometimes they show the preparation for firing a cannon. There are usually many willing, take good places to watch. Everything is safe and within the permitted limits. Don't forget to bring earplugs. A cannon shot is quite loud. Tickets are not expensive, you can spend time with your family and learn a lot of interesting things. Parking is available, paid additionally.

Wow. Amazing citadel with guided or self tours. The staff is wearing period clothing and noon canon firing. Very interesting museum and exhibits. Fun day for families, picnics, and history.

Interesting history around Halifax and the Citadel. In the information center runs a film in English and French. Unfortunately, the sound did not work for us.
In the citadel you can walk through different stations. With children certainly a very nice attraction.
The entrance fee for an adult I find a bit expensive. Here you could improve, then probably more visitors would come.

Fun watching all the drills. The "soldiers" walking around demonstrating the marching, formations, and weapons was cool. We saw a rifle demonstration where a soldier fired three shots very quickly, and were present for the noon cannon firing. The tour was good and worth the price. Tours run in English and in French.

Citadel is the place where the city was first formed. After centuries, it is now a museum and famous tourist place in the city. Being a resident of the city, I got the opportunity to visit it multiple times. The place comes to life during summer when flocks of tourists visit the charming place. This is the time when the museum is open, guards are present, and one needs to purchase entry ticket of 8.5 CAD (not needed if you have a Discovery pass). Winter is more timid. Not many activities except the noon canon during this time. That also means it is open for all without a ticket but you don't get the flavour since nothing inside is open. Over and all, a must visit place for everyone visiting downtown. Careful if you visit during mid day and with a kid. The noon canon is really loud.

The fort was awesome. It was full of interesting sights and informative displays. The staff was very knowledgable and friendly. One of the highlights was that of the bagpiper playing haunting melodies at various times throughout the day. They also had a partial recreation of D-Day from a Canadian soldier's perspective.

This place is much more fun than I expected! I loved the immersive experience I had while observing the soldiers playing drums/bagpipes and shooting their guns. One of the oldest citadels in Canada, the citadel of Halifax, should be on top of the list of the places to visit when you're in town. The area is huge with lots of exhibitions on the history of the military and the city itself there. Expect to spend at least two hours to get the most of what the place has to offer.

This is a must see when in Halifax. The price for an adult is $12.50. If you are going, I would suggest being there for noon because everyday they fire off a cannon except Christmas. There is so much to see. The history from WW1 all the way to the recent wars in Afghanistan is incredible. There is so much to see and learn. There is so much to learn and to see how things have changed over the years. The most amazing thing for me was the Juno Beach display. I actually felt like I was there and it gave me a real understanding what the allied troops went through fighting the Germans. Give yourself plenty of time to visit the barracks and everything this place has to offer.

We were in Halifax for one day only. We walked from the cruise terminal to the Citadel, which on occasions was quite steep.
It's actually a pleasant walk past some more historical properties.
8 dollars entrance fee with under 18's free.
Well worth the time and cost. We were there approximately 1.5 hours; we could have stayed longer, but as it was a short trip, we wanted to see other places too.
On the hour the bagpipes were played which was wonderful. Staff were dressed in period costumes and shared information.
The museum has a nice layout and is full of interesting history, which is very well presented.
Highly recommend.
Some nice views, too.

Amazing exhibits. Be sure to see the newest one right of the information center. When we went there we realized the narration was much better and we enjoyed how interactive it was but alas we were short on time. Change of guards, the pipe show was fun. And views were spectacular.

I found the museum in the main building much more interesting than the big gun going off or watching the teenagers in period costumes marching around the grounds. The museum has relics and artifacts from the Canadian military from wars past, war trophies from soldiers, and more curiosities to learn from as well. I found that area the most fascinating. Take your time and enjoy it.

My husband and I came in ‘shoulder season’ so there wasn’t a full time table of re-enactments or activities, but that was ok.
Lots to see and do as you explore the timeline for the French and British rule in the area, you can easily spend half a day or more here.
Very friendly volunteers and staff that are happy to answer any questions you may have.
It would have been good to have some sort of sign posts / direction to let you know a recommendation on where to walk round and in what direction so you make sure you see everything.
If you have a Parks Canada Pass then it’s free entry.

Green Gables Heritage Place is a notable museum that served as the inspiration behind the book 'Anne of Green Gables'. It holds historical significance and has been restored to showcase furniture, décor, and furnishings from Anne's era. The place offers guided tours with audiovisual displays for better understanding along with a gift shop. With its proximity to Cavendish Beach, it is an essential location to visit for those who admire the classic novel from 1908.
We had an excellent visit here! We had a friend in town who loved the Anne books, and she was so excited to visit this spot. We were really lucky that they stay open later into the shoulder season.
The spot is clean, bright and very accessible. Lots of well laid out ramps and well marked steps. Washrooms were clean, accessible and well maintained.
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable- We really loved the guide inside the house but everyone was very friendly.

This was a must for me when visiting PEI for the first time. I loved learning all about Lucy Maud Montgomery. The house itself was neat and we enjoyed the walks in the woods and exploring the memorial stuff in Montgomery Park. There is a second part past the park that costs extra, so it you want to explore it, ask about it when you pay your admission at the beginning. No one mentioned it to us. There are some great things for purchase in the gift shop...I picked up a copy of the Anne of Green Gables book in addition to a few other things. You can also take a picture with "Anne and best friend "Diana". 😊

Green Gables Heritage Place displays the history and writing journey of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables.
This beautiful space encompasses the story of the writers life, showcasing her passion, struggles, and inspiration as well as actualize the story of Anne of Green Gables right before your eyes. This is the place I wish I could keep to myself. Such a serene site! It's L.M. Montgomery's house. The structure is original, and the items inside are those from her time. (Quite a few of them were donated by the people of the island.) The house is furnished, and the staff is knowledgeable. Wonderful! The exhibition is great, and the trails are divine (the Lovers' Lane and the Haunted Woods). The greenery wasn't in full swing, but we still enjoyed them immensely! I bet it's even better in the summer. I can't say enough good things about this experience.

This was an interesting stop on our tour of PEI. I knew nothing about Anne of Green Gables but grew up know of the cultural influence. I took the time to walk through the exhibit and read about Lucy Maude Montgomerys life which gave me a new appreciation for the stories.
The entrance fee was around $9 and are pet friendly which helped when travelling with my dog. The visitor centre has a large gift shop as well as in depth exhibit and great clean bathrooms. There is a small cafe just outside the building as well.
The actual Green Gables building is maintained as a one way walk through filled with historically accurate furniture and decorations. This doesn’t take long to walk through in itself but there are also trails on the property to walk if you’re keen on exploring.

It was a beautiful and glorious day in October. The museum had a lot of information and as someone who was introduced to Anne in Grade 7 for our English Literature class and fell in love with Gilbert Blythe and everything Green Gabels it was pure joy being able to come here!
The gift shop was so large and had numerous memorabilia and trinkets.
Ample parking . Although I recommend coming in early as soon as they open so that your able to take pictures and explore freely without crowds.. I got there at 9 and when we left at 11 there. It was crowded and many tour buses were arriving!
All in all a fabulous place to visit.

Like many Canadians, I grew up reading/watching Anne. Seeing Green Gables was magical.
You enter the Museum that chronicles LM Montgomery's life before exiting the back that leads to the infamous house.
The grounds are beautifully kept and there is a lot to explore.
There are bathrooms and a lovely gift shop.
The museum and most of the grounds are wheelchair accessible, however, inside the Green Gable home and to go into one forest section, there are stairs.

What a delightful place to visit! Felt like stepping right into Anne of Green Gables, I kept expecting to run into Diana while traipsing among the Haunted Woods and hoped to catch a glimpse of Gilbert as we strolled Lovers Lane.
It was so fun to just wander around, and nice to have so many plaques and interesting exhibits to learn from as well. I especially appreciated the quotes from L.M. Montgomery's journals.
There is no need to cut your trip short, there is a snack bar nice restrooms, indoor exhibits and plenty of trails to wander and enjoy.

Recommend especially if you are an Anne of Green Gables fan. Much to see and do. It's part of the federal parks so you don't have to pay if you have a discovery pass. So much information about the author. Walk through the house, explore two trails. Can walk to the authors home ( extra fee ) we chose not to as it's just the foundation. After the walk through the haunted woods you can visit the memorial park and the post office that has some more information and historical pieces as well as a neat video to watch all for free.

We went to go see Anne of Green Gables the musical. It had been a while since i’ve been to a live musical! The performers were amazing and the show was spectacular! However leaving the show was really disorganized and messy as well as during breaks. Everyone was shoving each other and when I was in line to get a drink during break this family butted in front of me, but hey there’s only so much the place can do! Overall, the staff was very friendly and the show is definitely worth to see! 👏🏻👏🏻

The theatre seems to be closed due to the pandemic but they have a free exhibit about Parliament House, which is currently closed due to restorations. The staff member working there was very knowledgeable.

It’s by donation only. No backpacks or they safe keep it for you. Honestly a great place for a rainy day or if you just want to find a place to enjoy art and sit. It’s large and has clean bathrooms. The art pieces either make you think or give off very Pawnee Parks and Rec mural vibes. I will not post photos. Enjoy it in person.

This is such a great museum and gallery- it was free admission for us and we got to see many different pieces from the group of seven to contemporary pieces, had so much fun here. If you’re in Charlottetown you must go!

I watched Anne of Green Gamble here. It is a very nice performance center. The nearby parking is not expensive.

Decent size, but a lot of the same type of art. Needs to have more distinct themes. Also, free admission (but donations are wanted and expected). Don't bring large bags, but if you do they will keep it until you're ready to leave (backpacks, grocery bags..)

Parks Canada usually strives to offer an experience in both languages in surrounding PEI sites. The Confederation exhibit being off the usual site due to renovations, it sadly misses the mark. We were unable to obtain any information in French from the staff working at the exhibit, when we visited in the afternoon of August 17, 2023.
What was the most shocking happened while we were waiting to watch the documentary that is displayed on two different screens in the room. Each screen needs to be activated by the staff, after distributing headsets and choosing which language to play. We were the only ones having taken seats in front of a screen that had not started playing the documentary. After requesting headsets to the staff, he came back with a group of other guests.
When we asked the staff to play the movie in French, expecting to see the movie based on the order of arrival, he instead asked the other guests if they understood French. Given that they didn’t, the staff asked our family to stand up and wait 10 minutes next to the other screen, that was already displaying the English version of the movie.
This kind of bigotry from staff members should not be tolerated by this institution, especially not in an exhibit replicating such an important moment of our country’s history.

At the East Pointers show last night (Dec. 16, '23). Tim is a great entertainer!
But the staff did NOTHING to control the unruly people in the audience. People were shouting over the music. And people coming and going with drinks during the show were blocking our view and generally distracting us from enjoying the performance. I expected a lot better from the Confederation Centre. It felt like the Cavendish Beach music festival. It will be long time before we return.
Notably, Emma and Joy did help us by finding us new seats away from the worst of the crowd, but other people were still strolling in and out of the theater during the show.

We keep coming back to the Center. 1st. The memories my spouse has after working 45 years ago as a Hostess for the summer and 2nd: the plays! Last night we went to see the “Tell Tale Harbour“ story whose led character/actor was “Allan Doyle” whose known more as the lead singer for the band “Great Big Sea”. This musical was great! A must see if your in town this summer(2022).

The Play that Goes wrong.....
We had a Horrible experience at this venue as a group of unruly customers sat behind us interfering with our ability to hear literally any dialogue. Usher pulled us aside and offered us hearing devices and/or a change of seats. Both options had to be administered through the box office. Having missed a substantial part of the play already we thought going to the box office at this point would cause us to miss too much of the performance. We requested a refund. The theatre manager authorized to provide a refund was not in the house and so we were told to call her or see her Monday morning (after the weekend). I called her and left a phone message and emailed her receiving no response at all! I did manage to track her down Monday morning and was told a flat "no refunds for any reason" policy was in place. And so we spent 200 dollars and received nothing for it! We are very disappointed in this policy and find it unacceptable that the theatre would be happy to take our money having no regard for customer satisfaction. If we could give this experience a zero star rating....we would!

Don’t overlook gift shop & restaurant
We stop in every time we’re in town.
They have one of the best most creative gift shops in PEI
Also delightful restaurant that is great for meetings, business especially.
My kids love to run around, this time there was a cool dream catcher exhibit.
Besides the Theatre and Gallery there is a big free area to explore too.
