Just love small and friendly town of Chemainus and its theater. Very professional actors and very welcome atmosphere. Always enjoy what and how they play . Some times see the same one twice or three times ,always refer this place to my friends.
Larissa Tchernova — Google review
Every time I visit the theatre I am reminded how amazing as a local to have a live performance venue like this in my home town. After watching a show it is easy to understand why so many travellers and visitors flock to Chemainus just to see the plays.
The well built out stages, intimacy of the auditorium, lighting, seating, sound system all add to the performance. The shows are carefully selection, well produced and always talented performers cast for the showings.
One thing I would recommend if coming is to make sure you take the opportunity to have the pre-show meal in the theatres Playbill Dining Room. Most times this is what we do and the buffet selection is always well selected with a variety of tasty dishes and of course a great dessert selection. It should be noted they do have vegetarian options as well.
If you get a chance in the future, check out the Chemainus Theatre Festival.

The production was very lively and light hearted. The actors/ actress were skilled and gave an excellent performance. If there was a criticism, it would be that there wasn't much choice for a light snack during intermission.

What a wonderful day today at Chemainus live professional Theatre on Vancouver Island!!😀👏 The theatre is the central core feature in this amazing town with almost every building with so realistic, detailed murals 👍
The theatre is amazing inside with historic character maintained , amazing gift shop and the best elegant dining room .
The buffet today was outstanding!! The buffet was very organized with salads , main courses and desserts and each course was absolutely delicious!!
The play Gaslight was outstanding and kept you on the edge of your seat - very suspenseful and excellent acting and special effects 👏
Highly recommend Chemainus to visit , enjoy lunch or dinner and a play !!! Please enjoy walking around the town and enjoy all the local businesses!! What a wonderful day !! 😀🫠
Doreen Mackay-Dunn — Google review
Saw a great play with fabulous actors. The place has a very nice atmosphere, the lobby and outside of the building is very nicely decorated and is welcoming. The seats in the theater are very narrow and not comfortable for plus size gals like me. I noticed a lot of larger folks looking just as uncomfortable as me. It is a shame really.

We just saw Zachary Stevenson in “Dead Ringer“ which was excellent! Great voice, great band, wonderful performance! I highly recommend this theatre.

I'd give the Chemainus another star if I could.
Always quality entertainment; especially in a small town more than an hour away from Victoria. Food is fabulous. The staff are top notch... really.
Dale Higham — Google review
Loved this place! They have a nice restaurant area for before the show and for drinks at intermission which can be ordered in advance. The bartender was extremely engaging and friendly this past Friday.

Ghost was just terrific! The singing, dancing, humour and special effects were outstanding. Rather than singling out any particular actor, just let me say the main characters and supporting performers were exceptional. For me, who loved the movie, it was a real treat. I would also commend the writers, lighting, set design and direction. We came for the brunch and the food and service was excellent.
rick bookham — Google review
I saw the performance Ghost last night with my daughters and our friend. It was an absolutely AMAZING performance! It was a musical and the talent was top notch.
It definitely out performed the original.
Our friend was wondering how we can attract a younger audience to support this talent. Spread the word! Local theatre is top notch; incredible talent, affordable and accessible.
Get out there and enjoy the show!!
Bonnie Potter — Google review
The theater is so precious.
The play "Ghost" was fantastic!! Best performers I've ever seen. The best wind pipes I've ever heard. These actors should be on Broadway. We're fortunate they have decided to stay here on our island to perform for us.
Paula Scott — Google review
Last night, my wife, daughter, her husband, their four kids, were very fortunate to have enjoyed a delicious diner followed by a live stage show, "its a wonderful life". We all enjoyed the evening so much we plan on making this an annual family event. Please pass on our warmest wishes to all those who contributed to lovely evening at the Chemainus theatre.
David Moss — Google review
absolutely stunning building and area, if you enjoy theater it's a must see on Vancouver Island, with very talented staff from dinner to the plays, your treated to a great meal(buffet) accompanied by fine live classical music to complete the ambiance, though the cocktail 🍸 menu could be expanded, I've never been disappointed, the only thing that keeps it from truly shining 🌟 behond reproach is the tight seating, that IMO should be expanded; I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in anyway, even if it is somewhat out of the way.
haremish — Google review
In 1994 to 99, the Theatre was full of colour in more than 1 sense. It would have received a 5 star review then. The theatrical side of things has always been excellent On my return visit this year, I was dismayed at it's exterior; unfortunately Covid19 took a toll on it. Glad its survived but needs your support. Theatre was full but why was the Playbill Dining Room so empty in comparison? They made such a good couple for one's pleasure before. Maybe because the incredibly awesome buffet has now been extinguished!! I regretted paying $50 for a couple of self serve salads and 2 desserts. Both Ho hum/made by Mum types at best AND 1 chosen & served main course(Chef made & good) - Overall, seriously disappointing. Go back to the tried and true method of the past - Awesome Buffet to compliment quality Theatre!! The place lacked it's old energy, joy and life Downstairs the highlight of the day had to be the Gallery. Unique and fun to shop in! The little village also reflected the 'HIT' of Covid19 and seemed more like a Ghost town Vs an amazing Artsy Vibe of it's past life. A true shame, however it's all still there awaiting its resurrection. There is always hope and prayer 🙏 for it's future. Keep the Arts alive in Chemanius PLEASE
Christine Stonestreet — Google review
Beautiful theatre, lovely acoustics - delightful play. Dining space for buffets small - book early if you want your dine and show experience. No bad seats in the house, roomy and comfortable.

We saw Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The theatre grounds and the building are beautiful and loved. The theatre seating and stage are perfect. The performance was well done and imaginative. The set design and costume were well done.

Great show. Not a bad seat in the house. Easy access for those who need it. Food was good. Not drop dead awesome for the price charged
Literally the city of murals (wall arts). Very picturesque town and the murals show the history of town from different times. Lovely place to stop by and enjoy walking around the town centre! Highly recommend! 5/5

Bette is super knowledgeable and she’s so passionate about her animals. We had such a great time visiting the farm. We got to meet and feed so many animals like chickens, donkeys, goats, bunnies and horses. I highly recommend everyone to visit the farm :)

Such a wonderful experience!!!! Highly recommended, a must visit in Sunshine Coast. The owner, Bette was so informative, passionate and friendly. We had a huge group with many toddlers. They were running around, rowdy, but every staff was super patient and friendly with our group. All the animals were so gentle and friendly. It’s an very fun and interactive experience for all ages. We would definitely come back just for this experience! Hose back riding is a must!

What an incredible day, I booked a 1.5 hour trail ride and had the most incredible time. My lovely guide was so knowledgeable, made sure safety was a priority and took me on a gorgeous trail. If I could give Farm Ventures 6 stars, I would! Highly recommend checking them out for a fun solo outing or a day out with friends/family!
Brittany Horne — Google review
Amazing Experience! My wife and I were just on our Honeymoon on the Sunshine Coast and visiting Farm Ventures for the first time.
We absolutely loved it there. Lots of different animals to pet and see. All the animals look well taken care of and the overall riding experience is awesome.
Pricing is very fair and the Trail rides go through a very scenic ride.
If we come back to the Sunshine Coast we will for sure book again.
Highly recommend it! For beginner riders or experienced riders.
Thanks for an awesome memory!

Our visit to the farm ventures exceeded expectations. Jocelyn, our guide, made it truly unforgettable with her incredible explanations about the animals. Grateful for her warmth and the awesome tour she provided. I had an amazing time, we travelled from Vancouver just to visit here and it was without a doubt, worth it. It’s incredible for all age groups, if you get a chance, you must visit!!

We had an amazing tour with Jossie. We were a big group of 11 but handled exceptionally well. We have been to many farms and petting zoos but this experience was very intimate, educational, hands-on and uniquely designed.

We had the best time at Farm Ventures. The petting farm is wonderful for everyone - big and small. Louise looked after us and we had a great time.
My four year old went riding for the first time properly on Thunder the Shetland and loved it.
Bette-Lynne looked after us so well and runs a gorgeous proper happy family farm. I also went on a treck with her and had the best time, her horses are really very special not any old treck horses. It was a huge treat.
We highly recommend, it's a really special place. My son
wants to go riding again now - high praise from a boy who was not interested before this ride on Thunder!

Farm Ventures is an absolutely amazing place to be. The moment you walk in you are greeted by tons and tons of very friendly animals who are all ready to be pet, fed, and loved. Bette’Lyn and all of the staff are incredibly kind and accommodating people who want nothing more than for you to have a great time. The farm adventures are full of fun facts and cute animals and there is no time limit so you are free to roam and play. The price is absolutely fair and even a bit cheap when you compare it to what it must cost to run a farm full of animals. Apart from this, the trail rides are truly something else. Gorgeous views, peaceful scenery, and the most amazing selection of horses to top it all off. ABSOLUTELY VISIT FARM VENTURES!

I recently hosted my son's third birthday party at Farm Ventures, and it was a fantastic experience! The day was filled with fun activities and adorable animals. We had the chance to pet and hold bunnies and guinea pigs, which the kids absolutely loved. The farm also had a variety of animals to see, including horses, ducks, a goat, peacocks, ponies, pigeons, and pigs. What I appreciated most was that they tailored the tour to our pace, ensuring we got to enjoy every moment. Highly recommended for family outings and celebrations!

Super friendly and calm staff.
Appropriate instruction.
Had a great time doing a family trail ride at Farm Ventures. Staff were helpful and friendly. Horses have personality but never felt like they were skittish or uneasy. Was the highlight of our little trip on the Sunshine Coast.

We had a super time at Farm Ventures! Bette and Dustin were super hosts and their love of animals is so apparent and infectious ❤️ We got to play with rabbits, guinea pigs, chicken, ducks, goats, pigs and more, plus we got to feed them and hold them. My kids, 8 and 10, were in absolute heaven! Highly recommended for a great experience!
Toby Barazzuol — Google review
We had such an amazing day at the farm! So many amazing animals to interact with, feed and have fun with including peacocks, micro pigs, donkeys, horses, teeny tiny bunnies, lamas, ducks and many more. The private tour includes funny animal tricks & performances, everything from a horse singing happy birthday to a smiling pig. A day not to be missed. Jess was our tour guide and went above and beyond to make our day fun and memorable. So informative and friendly (& Irish!) Would definitely return. Highly recommend!

Great swimming spot and a dock to jump from. The water isn’t too cold during the summer. The water is also great to go tubing in. The dock has some benches for friends who doesn’t want to swim but wants to come and enjoy Lake Cowichan. It’s especially nice to come here and watch the sunset.
Maddie Cruz — Google review
It's a good place to float down the river. It's cheaper if you bring your own tube.
It's better to go earlier in the season or else the water dosen't move. I went a few weeks ago and it took 5 hours to get down the river.
I highly recommend bringing a paddle.
Tricia Grajek — Google review
Very fun experience. I would suggest getting a tube with a paddle though, those who did not struggled to navigate the river. It's slow and quite shallow at parts but the section of small rapids breaks up what is a very relaxing tube ride!
Kristian Blais — Google review
It’s a relaxing and easy float. Kid and pet friendly. Dogs could have their own float or boogie board and stay in safely.
Shannon Burnside — Google review
Very relaxing float down Cowichan River. At the moment not too much water so that there is just a little bit of paddling involved (especially if the wind is against you...). Very well organized with tube rental and shuttle service.
Really fun on a hot day.
Stefanie Steiner — Google review
Lazy is right! Its quite the slow moving current. Took about 2 hours to reach the end. Some mini rapids in the later half were entertaining. We bought a bracelet for a single ride back into town, so one person could grab the car and return to pickup the others. GPS point to return to was 'The Cabin Little Beach'.
malagu malagu — Google review
Excellent experience for my family! Two kids (6 and 8) both loved it. Spouse found the water a bit shallow at some parts, so he didn’t love getting stuck in the rocks and having to wiggle his way out a few times 😆
The staff were super nice, made the experience all the more enjoyable!
Also, highly recommend heading to J&V’s Diner after the tubing for some yummy food and amazing shakes!
Jacqueline Forbes — Google review
So glad we drove out of our way to do this!! Had read about it online and thought we might as well spend the day doing it as the sun was cranking and it was just an awesome day for it. The tubes are great and the shuttle is super easy and convenient. Great for a group of friends or families. Lots of fun people on the way down and lots of locals with their houses facing the river enjoying the day as well. Highly reccommend this activity !! Would 100% do it again.
Erin Haverkamp — Google review
A great place for a family and friends. It’s mentioned 2,3 hours but easily can take 3-4. First hour it’s quite slow to reach rapids, after an hour it’s so much fun. Water is clear and warm. Make sure to take Sunscreen some food and drinks. At the checkin you can take waterproof bag and keep all belonging with you.
Nadiya Albishchenko — Google review
It wasn't open when we went here. Probably not the right time of year, we just stopped to eat at the A&W and grabbed some fried ice cream and ate at the park and strolled around the area. Very unique place with a museum and small park. Beautiful dock with gorgeous views with a big open sky. Would love to come back and have the kids go tubing and I can review that portion too..
Booyaka Stubbs (ExplorewithStubbs.com) — Google review
Beautiful lazy river route. Takes around 2.5 hours from start to finish at a leisurely pace. Once you go under the first two bridges, the river opens up into a large area that gets kinda busy when the weather is nice. Beyond that, the route to Little Beach is relatively quiet, and there's a few places where the river gets shallow and fast. Nothing that'll tip you out of your tube, and kid friendly. Recommend that book your tube at the Tube Shack, and use (free, when you rent a tube) their ride service to get back.
David Nicoll — Google review
This experience should be "mandatory" for everyone who lives, visits BC. (LOL).
The Cowichan region is wonderful!
The best lakes for a swim in the summer.
This river tub tour is a must!
You can rent the floats there (The Tube Shack ), with affordable price and makes your life easier!
The "descent down " the river takes about 3 hours and you can stop at the "little beaches" on the way.
Take your water, your snacks, sunscreen and enjoy!
Absolute gem of a campsite. Huge grassy areas for tents, play area for kids, beach with views and a small scenic trail. Site has most amenities like toilets, water and bear caches. Fire pits and plenty of wood around the place (bring a saw or axe). Will 100% be back.
Ruairi O'Callaghan — Google review
So far so good at Porpoise! Love the bike camping facilities, lots of space to spread out. Hot showers, fresh water, right by the water. The group site is huge, but essentially a gravel parking lot. Others might like this, but there are nicer sites out there.
Howie Outerbridge — Google review
A beautiful site that is spacious, well serviced, and close to the water. We enjoyed being close to town but being in nature! The restrooms were clean and large. We just wished that there was a proper dish washing pit. Looking forward to coming back :)
Bree Kehler — Google review
We spent 4 days here at the end of summer.
Great quiet campsite. Majority people camping were camping with tents but the sites were large enough for trailers. Ours is 30 feet and fit fine.
The far end of the campground is a 5-10 min walk to the bay. I had to drive our kayaks down to the water to paddle.
One large disadvantage was there is no sani-dump but there is one just off the highway at Robert’s creek provincial park just 20 min away toward gibsons.
Sean Funk — Google review
It is a very beautiful campground with a nice beach and clean bathrooms. Even a warm shower.
I gave it 4 stars because I was incredibly bothered by the way they clean campsites. This are gravel and dirt sites and they come around in the morning using a power blower to clean up empty sites. Not only is this a noise nuisance but it literally leaves the whole campground in a cloud of dust.
Please change that practice!
Susanne Joss — Google review
Pros: close to the beach
NIcely spaced camp sites
Affordable
Cons:
No electric outlets in individual sites
There are only 2 showers in the entire campground
No hot water(?). I was brushing my teeth and wash my face in one of the 2 sinks, and ran the hot water for at least 5 minutes and there was no hot water. I’m worried that they may not have hot water in the shower. I will update the review once I find out.
*Update: they had hot water in the shower, but you have to keep pressing multiple times (every 10-20 seconds?) to keep the water running.
*Update2: I noticed that the shower was dirty (large ball of hair) at around 6:30am. It says it’s scheduled to clean twice a day, 11:30pm-1:30am. This means either it hasn’t been cleaned in the evening or someone took a shower after 1:30am.
*Update3: Daytime cleaning schedule is 12 noon-1:30pm. I live in a 890sq place and my cleaner comes weekly to clean the entire place in 4 hours. Does it really need 1.5 hours during prime daytime to clean a small bathroom of 2 showers and 4-5 stalls, twice a day? I came at 1:26pm and the bathroom was still locked; there was a long line up of people 7 females waiting to use the bathroom. The “pit toilet” is disgusting and I was gagging as soon as I walked in, and couldn’t use it.
No campfire allowed in individual campsite
Update 4: I noticed that there was no soap for about 48 hours in the female bathroom. I’m just curious what involves “twice a day bathroom cleaning if soap is not replenished twice a day”. A male park ranger finally came into the female bathroom at around 8:30am (outside of cleaning hours) to replenish the soap. There were many female using the bathroom at the time including showers and toilet stalls.

Have been camping here since I was a kid and am impressed now as an adult at how nice this place is. The camp sites are pretty nicely spaced out with a lot of privacy in between. The bathrooms are clean and work well. And I think they must have just updated their out houses too, they’re probably the nicest outhouses I’ve ever used lol!
Katie Domingo — Google review
One of our favourite places to visit on the coast. Sandy beaches, park for the kids, outhouses and a great set up for paddle boarding in the summer !
Gabriela R — Google review
Always packed with campers. Great place to check out if you are wanting to camp! Just not a great stop if you are looking for a park or a beach. Loved turning over rocks and watching the crabs like when I was a kid.
Zoe Edin — Google review
Seems like a really nice place to have a picnic whether it's with just 2 people or a large group of people. The park has a endless amount of picnic tables (some covered), shade, and open space. However, the public washrooms were closed during my visit and the one outhouse by the parking lot was disgusting/not usable.
Jas B — Google review
Absolutely beautiful place to take a little hike. We took a stroll around the beach, the view was gorgeous, it was very clean. The trails through the woods almost make you feel like you’ve been transported into a magical realm, the trees are huge, the logs and rocks are covered with moss. Walking beside the creek and taking in the fresh air really makes you feel so serene. If you’re looking for somewhere to relax and take in the cool ocean air, check this place out!
Jordan Fell — Google review
Beautiful but not a place to come when the tide is in. No space. Park is great however.
The birds are too quiet...not a peep. The rocks are ordinary and plain. The shells are all broken. Some of the trees are dead. There's an ugly house across the bay and it should be renovated as the roof is an eyesore. Very few logs floating in the ocean and the waves too small. LOTS of hornets.
Anna Judge — Google review
Holy moly, I should not tell you this but, this is a well kept secret. Air is fresh, water from ocean is beautiful, layout is excellent, no mosquitos!!!!!! Has flushing toilet and shower. has a group site and overflow. Beautiful campground, especially when the moon is on the water......Nice short trip on the ferry and close to all amenities. Better than Golden Ears, sorry my opinion.

First time out to this lovely Island. I should have gone sooner! Endless beautiful beaches, nature trails, and open fields. Lots of deer, racoons, squirrels, and sea birds everywhere. The rock formations on the beach are incredible! It's about an 8 km hike around, so pack a lunch, or grab something from the cozy little cafe at the campsite area right near the dock. There's trail maps along the way, and trails that go through the middle of the island, to make your hike shorter. The ferry ride to the island is about 10 minutes, from Maffeo Sutton Park, downtown Nanaimo. It's walk-on only. $15 per person. Well worth it! Looking forward to going over to this beautiful nature island again!

We love taking the ferry over and spending the day exploring. We brought friends over this time with our dogs and it is now a new place for them to frequent. There is lots of parking close to where the ferry leaves.
We hiked along the trails which were well groomed and signed. There’s a couple of areas that are hard to locate such as the mine shaft etc. which could have better signage as you are going along.
Lots of great views, wildlife and sea life to enjoy!
Staff are all super friendly and there are lots of toilet facilities (outhouse) throughout the park. There is a small store/food area that sells shirts, ice cream etc.
The fairy runs quite often in the summer, every half hour and takes up to 40 passengers. Later at night and during the off-season they sometimes run the smaller boat with only takes approximately 12.
On low tide you can walk over to Protection Island and go for a bite to eat at the local pub.

We love the park. Could we please clean the showers. We visited twice in two weeks and the showers had not been cleaned in between. The women's shower was down to one and was still that way 2 weeks later.

Fantastic location to easily spend a whole day. Great views all around and so much wildlife. Come for a picknick, bike ride or anything you like by riding the ferry over (yes, you can bring your bike in board). Or even better, rent them from Jeff's Rentals on the island as he is an amazing person and the rates are very affordable. Paddle over to the dinghy dock pub for a bite to eat and a drink. You can even camp on this island. It's perfect.

Place is amazing!!! a Nanaimo hidden gem didn't know this place existed coming out there, was suggested to me staying at the Vancouver island residences went and checked it out for a day hike learned there was camping and came back and stayed for 5 days, it was during the week and the island was pretty empty, was tranquil, there was deer everywhere and they were pretty fearless they'd walk right through the campsites (raccoons in daylight too!) walking through the forest you felt like an ant walking through the grass most of the trees are enormous , had the beach to myself, saw purple starfish, the staff were great, and the burgers from the concession were pretty good. Plan to come back!!
J. D — Google review
Great place to go for a hike or kayak maybe both!!! lots of wildlife and great views! Be sure to give yourself lots of time to explore the whole island and if you plan to camp you'll want to make sure you secure a spot as they fill up fast. Bring lots of water and snacks and don't share with the racoons no matter how cute they seem.

Pipers Lagoon and Park has both an exposed beach and a more sheltered beach. Even on the exposed beach side of the path there's a small bay that's great for swimming in the summer. This path that is between the lagoon area and the exposed beach carries on and leads to a variety of trails to explore. If you're able to climb a bit to crest the rocks at the end of the initial easy and accessible pathway, you will find a well worn main path that takes you on a short hike around the rock that has many beautiful and interesting views of the surrounding ocean, lagoon area and the historical "Shack Island". Be prepared for protuding roots and rocks on the trails, once you reach the end of the initial walkway and crest the rocks to this path.

We really enjoyed our day here and hope to come back soon. The sun was out and so was everyone else looking for some time to relax in the sun. Great views from almost any vantage point. Got in some good steps walking around and checking the place out. Found a few starfish and cool looking mini crabs all different colors too. Water was still a bit cold but was fun for my kids. The drive up here was amazing and relaxing. Definitely coming back here again and I highly recommend coming here for the views and fresh air

Lovely place to stop at before or after the ferry crossing or just to go to when you want to have some peace! Stunning views of the ocean, so peaceful and relaxing. Great place to bring a dog as well.

Beautiful views. Ample parking. Short, flat gravel pathway that walks between the ocean and lagoon. Short paths down to beach. Was there on a sunny spring day with a brisk cold wind and it was still awesome.

Great place for a swim and a walk, free showers outside in car park for after your swim and lovely clean toilets, plenty of space to park your car. You can swim in the Sea or the Lagoon, really need swim shoes for sea as it’s rocky and a bit cool but I was ok in just trunks, very refreshing, can get a bit choppy so don’t venture out too far without a tow float. Lagoon more sandy and warmer and safer.

Breathtaking view of sky, water, and earth. You can walk along the shore. The skyline and changing water color captures the mind and the heart. The succulents and vegetations on the rock are beautiful.

An awesome walk / place to explore when the tide is low. Both of my kids (8 & 4 years old) had a blast there.
Check your tide charts before going. Low tide is better but even high tide is still a nice walk.

Stopped at this little park for a view of the Entrance Island Lighthouse. While the lighthouse was visible it was also windy and cold so I didn't stay long. There is a decent sized parking lot and the bathrooms...well, they are bathrooms. They weren't the cleanest and are fairly small but so much better than outhouses. It seemed to be a pretty popular park though. Sure it's busier in the warmer months. There are picnic tables and grass around the parking lot. There are also benches behind the drift wood along the little bit of beach I walked. I wish I had been able to visit on a day that it wasn't so windy and cold so that I could have explored the park more.

Beautiful park that is especially nice to explore as the tides come in. The hike around the peninsula is relatively short, but you can spend a lot of time wandering on the beaches and among the tide pools. Lots of room to bring a picnic blanket and some food as well. Just a short drive from downtown Nanaimo.

Birdwatchers will be delighted by the variety of avian species that frequent the area, while nature enthusiasts will appreciate the well-preserved flora and fauna. The trails around Piper's Lagoon are well-maintained, offering easy accessibility for all levels of hikers. Moreover, the panoramic views of the ocean and the distant mountains are truly breathtaking, making it an ideal spot for photography.

For me the most beautiful beach in North Nanaimo. Great trails! You have to be able to climb up the rocks to have the most terrific views. All seasons are breathtaking there.

Neck Point Park is a beachfront park in Nanaimo's north end, popular for its scenic views and hiking trails. The park offers opportunities for photography and scuba diving, with lots to explore on foot. A short 2km loop trail winds through rocky bluffs that overlook the ocean, making it a great destination for families and dog owners alike. Visitors can take in stunning views of the surrounding scenery while enjoying a leisurely stroll or picnic lunch.
Just stopped here to stretch the legs and eat some lunch on our Easter 🐣 long weekend trip. Looks like an amazing place from the little area that we saw and we all want to come back when there is more time to walk around. The views look amazing and lots to look at. We will be heading back this way in a few weeks so hopefully we'll make it work out. Highly recommended for all ages 👌 👍

A beautiful pebble beach where you can walk till the ocean and enjoy the sea from a rock. Careful at the end since it's slippery. Lots of small living beings on the rocks and really beautiful place to enjoy the sunset.

Amazing views, and access to the ocean. It's not a good park for anyone with mobility issues though. Some of the trails are steep and rocky.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Neck Point, Nanaimo, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! From the stunning natural beauty to the peaceful ambiance, my experience was nothing short of perfect.
The first thing that struck me was the breathtaking view of the ocean and the impressive rock formations. The rugged coastal scenery combined with the crystal-clear waters created a picturesque backdrop that simply took my breath away. Whether you're looking for a relaxing stroll or want to capture some stunning photographs, Neck Point offers an endless wealth of beauty.
What further impressed me was the cleanliness and maintenance of the park. The entire area was well-kept, and the walking trails were clearly marked and easily navigable. The park is also dog-friendly, meaning I got to enjoy the beautiful surroundings with my furry companion. It was refreshing to see responsible pet owners who maintained cleanliness and kept their four-legged friends on leashes.
One of the highlights of my visit was the abundance of wildlife. As I walked along the trails, I spotted various bird species and even seals swimming close to the shore. Nature enthusiasts will be delighted by the diverse ecosystem and the chance to observe these creatures in their natural habitat.
Furthermore, the park amenities were top-notch. The picnic areas were well-maintained and provided a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal surrounded by the sounds of nature. Additionally, the washroom facilities were clean and well-stocked, ensuring a comfortable experience for visitors of all ages.
I cannot recommend Neck Point in Nanaimo enough for anyone seeking a tranquil escape from the bustle of everyday life. Whether you're a nature lover, a photographer, or just looking for a serene retreat, this place has something for everyone. I am already planning my next visit to Neck Point; it truly is a hidden gem along Vancouver Island's coastline

Absolutely beautiful park, my favourite in Nanaimo. It’s a superb place to catch the sunrise in the morning and even whales if you’re lucky. The park is beautifully maintained and there’s a wide variety of terrain which keeps the trail interesting. Highly recommend you stop by even if you are just passing through Nanaimo.

A nice park with many trails. Follow the trail next to sea, you will enjoy a peace silk. When passa a narrow pass to a small island in sea that look like ET head, you will feel water touch each side. Then the trail turn into forest, you will find many doors infront of trees. These are spirit's homes. It is a amazing world.

Even when it's a cloudy day Neck Point is a great place to visit. The views never disappoint. We wandered the pathways with our puppy, even though you can't walk a dog on the actual beach this time of year you can still enjoy the view from the paths.

This park is a real gem. Trails through trees, trail along the shoreline. Different beaches to check out where some are rugged and some have tiny pebbled. Really neat spots to explore. There apparently a gnome door area but Ive yet to find it. Summer and fall you have a chance at spotting orcas as the swim up and down our coast. Dont miss visiting this place! Neck Point is also one of the top places to scuba dive in North America.
-free parking
-nice washrooms on site
-dogs on leash welcome

We love Neck point! From the gnome trail (and many more trails!), to the various beaches and bluffs, to ‘rock meadow’ as we call it in our family - it’s a beautiful park, and we’ve made many beautiful family memories here. There are new bathrooms, lots of picnic tables, fair enough parking - though with how popular it is you may end up waiting a bit for a spot if you go during summer at a peak hour. It’s also an amazing spot for photography. One of my top 3 favourite parks in Nanaimo.

This scenic park offers a diverse range of experiences within its relatively compact area. The walking trails are well-maintained and offer easy access to stunning ocean views, quiet beaches, and rugged rock formations. Wildlife sightings, especially of birds and marine life, add to the park's charm. The pebbled beaches and crystal-clear waters are perfect for a relaxing day out.

Beautiful view point in Nanaimo. We were there to experience the sunset, and ended up having a beautiful time. We sat on the logs by the water and stared at the horizon as the breeze made us feel calm. It's a great place to come to with friends and family. You have to walk almost 5 mins to get to the view points from the car park.

This place blew my mind with how big it is, forest walking trails, tonnes of rocky beach to explore, tide pools filled with purple & orange star fish, sea anemones, tiny fish & crabs, the view of the ocean from all sides of the park is beautiful, the rocky cliffs, driftwood & just everything, well done mother nature! 😍😍
Beautiful walk / short hike by the water. Took about 2 hours including lots of time for photos and a 15-min chill at the end of the trail where there's a little lighthouse. A little windy there. Little ups and downs make this an interesting walk. It was cloudy and still looked beautiful. It must look gorgeous on a sunny day. Thank you to all who pushed to make this trail happen and to preserve this for generations to come.

Sapphire blue sea, emerald green bay, orange trunk trees, evergreen pines, and a occasional white sail; the rest is up to you to tell me how beautiful it is :)

A "must stop " along the sunshine coast… 10 minutes from the main highway, a five minute hike and you're at the water… You can then hike to the left or right of the inlet beach area, left will bring you a flat, wraparound trail, right will bring you up top for the scenic viewpoint… Make sure you can handle stairs! It's short and sweet, you'll be at the top and under 15 minutes : perfect flat area up top for a picnic, not recommended for young children…, Steep sections, and dangerous areas.
Highly recommend going when nobody is there with your partner and a blanket 😊

This place is beautiful. I want to give 5 stars but I feel catfished by a lighthouse. They said "Lighthouse". This is no more than a glorified hot water tank with a solar panel and beacon screwed to the top of it. Nevertheless, I powered through because my mother didn't raise no quitter. In the end it was worth it but I still wouldn't brag to my friend about it.

Nice little walk in to an open beauty of a view. Continued to the right for a lookout and saw some whales in the distance and seals close to the rocks. Would have likes to discover more but we didn't have enough time.

Great short hike to amazing views. A little rocky and rooty at times, but no hard at all. You might even see some whales.

Great trail! Very easy to follow. About 15mins from Parking lot to lighthouse (one way), you basically go parallel to the water the whole way. Some areas are rocky, so wear non-slip shoes if you can or do a crab walk (use your hands if you need to); but I found the trail generally easy on the knees if you take your time and go slow - the trail is also wide enough for you to choose a different path (like around the rocks) that may be more suitable to one’s physical abilities. Passed the lighthouse, you can go for about another 3-4 minutes and you’ll see another great view point: the open ocean, boats and an island. I heard someone on the trail mentioning that is the Arbutus (but I’m not sure).

We ground a lovely shaded area just off the path with a view of this cove! A great place to spend a few hours looking for sea creatures, swimming or paddling, and having lunch! We were there at low tide, so swimming wasn't great but I'm sure it would be awesome closer to high tide! Definitely a rocky beach, but we had towels and it wasn't too hard to find a log to lean up against.

Turn left to Merrill Road for the small parking lot entrance to the starting point (see my photos). I like this because only few minutes hike and you will see the water view. Good for kids too but they might need assistance on some of the elevated sections. Washroom out house at the starting point. You don’t even have to go all the way to the small lighthouse. There are so many view points.

Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park is an expansive area of natural beauty covering 857 acres, named after a gold prospector who settled there in the 19th century. The park boasts old-growth forests with tall trees, walk-in campsites and trailed woodland, providing endless opportunities for family-friendly activities. Visitors can enjoy spacious picnic areas and a stunning three-mile-long sandy beach backed by safe swimming waters that stretch out into the Strait of Georgia at low tide.
The beach with a wide view has a charming view. It takes about 20 minutes from the beginning of the trail to the place where the sea is surging. The trail is gentle and comfortable, and people come in droves from afar to see the wide and flat coastline. The public facilities are complete, there are toilets, children's play area, dogs can walk on the trail, however, can not enter the prohibited area. This is a very good place to recommend to everyone.|07/09/2022

Great campground, not too noisy, and very clean. The fire rings needed maintenance as they had not been dug out for a long time. But the outhouses were fine and the beach was lovely and accessible from any site.

Very enjoyable and peaceful. We saw our first weasel in the wild which was cool. Especially since we live on the island. Lots of wildlife. And the new ant population in the park is intense. We thought the ants might be a problem. But they left us alone. Just be careful wondering around right now. The ant hills are all over the place and they will swarm if you aggravate them.

Beautiful park and amazing views. Very family friendly, bathrooms are pretty clean and the showers are nice and hot. There is a few items you can buy when you check in at the front of the park. Amazing beach with warm waters. We went on a mild day so was worried it might be to cold but the water was so pleasant it was nicer to be in the water than outside. When it’s low tide the beach just goes on and on making it great for the kids to play without having to worry about them going in to deep. Even though there is a lot of people there is so much space between people that you feel u have your own little section. There is a nice picnic area behind the beach very shady and toilets close by. Best Beach yet.

A bit windy but fantastic view of the Canada day fireworks. food trucks around and plenty of time to watch the view, lots of space to sit.
All dogs around were leashed, and the nearby playground was fun and open. Nearby were multiple mobile bathrooms, including a small series of permanent bathrooms, decently clean.

Gorgeous beach! Went at low-tide. Don't bother looking for sand dollars (we saw none, dead or alive) to mark off on any scavenger hunts you may be doing. This campsite was very beautiful! We had a tenting spot, the walk on was short and they had wheelbarrows available to cart over the gear. Facilities were well maintained, the dishwashing station was very convenient. The staff I encountered were kind and helpful. Watching the sun set from the beach was definitely a highlight. I'd visit again.

We have been staying here almost yearly for the past 20 years. Great campground, especially for young families. The trek to the beach can be a bit much so make sure you ha w a wagon!
Showers and bathroom facilities are great. Some of the showers have very low water pressure and all lose a lot of pressure every time someone flushes a toilet, which can be almost constant depending on the time of day.
Overall, great place to camp if you're lucky enough to book a site!

It is a great place to walk and get exercise. At low tide, you can walk out about a kilometer to the water. We've been here a few times now and love the views and the various starfish and shells along the beach. Our most recent trip brought us here to see the biolumencence in the water on a moonless night. It didn't turn out that well, but I believe we were in a bad spot with lights from the surrounding area encroaching our night view. Still had fun and enjoyed our night out...

Started camping season off strong at Rathtrevor last weekend!
Check in: Currently self check-in process in place and starts at 1pm. This is a cash only campsite and you leave the money in an envelope.
Site availability: We arrived right at 1 and had no trouble getting a decent spot near the beach entrance. Lots of multi-day visitors around though.
Atmosphere: Because the campgrounds are in a wooded area, our site got zero sunlight and was FREEZING as a result. Just remember to bring warm sleeping gear. Otherwise our site was wonderful, private enough and not right next to another site.
Noise: One rowdy site was quite loud with shouting and singing until around 1 a.m. But for the most part sites were occupied by families, not partiers.

Beautiful walk. The falls were not very big when we were there because of the drought but still beautiful. Campsite is alright. Very, very dusty and dirty. Had to clean everything when we returned home. Doesn't help that people drive around the campsite like it's a city street. We will not be going back to the campsite but will return to the falls and mountain bike trails.

I have been to this park many times over many years, both to camp and sometimes just to wander. It is a beautiful place any time of the year.
The campsites are large and well spaced. Ours had been cleaned and raked and was close to water and washrooms (which were very clean). The playground was also near by.
The River itself was still quite and very cold. The water was crystal clear and so beautiful- the colour was amazing.

Beautiful park, kids friendly path and easy for kids as young as 2 years old. Most of it is accessible with a stroller with the exception of a few spots where you might need some help. I would highly recommend the park.
Bring water shoes if you want to head down to the water / river due to tones of stones, not comfortable to walk without water shoes, but whatever you do if you have young kids and have to chase them, don’t visit the water area without foot covering.
Lastly if you go swimming, the water is so clear and beautiful and fresh, approx temp 10 degrees C! So it’s truly refreshing:-)

Nice and easy access from the parking lot to the bridge where you can get a fantastic view of the upper falls, down to the narrow canyon! Then another 10 mins to the mouth of the falls! You can tread accross from the water, in summer when it's low, but it's still freezing cold & the rocks are quite slippery! There's picnic bench and space if you want to hang out near the river!

A beautifully open and very clean space with large shade trees, grassy areas, picnic tables and a large sandy beach. When the tide is in you can walk around the bay in the water and it is no deeper than your waist. There is also a splash area where water shoots up from different spouts, great fun to watch the kids try and dodge the geysers but even more fun for the kids is the amazing playgrounds with brightly painted structures to play on including an airplane shaped monkey bar. There are swings and a sheltered picnic area. There are sandy floored washrooms and rinse showers, volleyball courts but the best part of the island experience are the warm and friendly people. I guess living in a beautiful spot like Vancouver Island makes it easy to be kind.

I just love ❤️ Parksville BC! Central location for a base so you can go exploring up North or down South. We stayed at The Beach Club Resort which is right on the water with the boardwalk in front. Only downside to the Resort is the elevator. They only have 1 per building; so between guests, staff, and the lovely children who like to push buttons 😉? You will get a workout on the stairs, lol. All the staff we encountered at the Resort were so nice and always asked how our stay is and do we need anything.
Thanks Parksville ✌️!

Amazing beach! It's absolutely huge with plenty of room for laying on the beach, grass, or by the playground. The playground is massive so if you have kids they will for sure have a great time. And the beach is dog friendly so bring your pooch with you! Going to the sand sculpting competition was a blast! Great beach made even better by the weather!

The park is simply amazing. The park is well equipped with a huge parking lot, picnic tables and a huge play area that is a short walk away from the beach. It is a very well maintained park
The beach is just 2mins away from the park. You can walk on the boardwalk or simply enjoy the scene and the breeze by sitting in on one of the benches. I saw a couple of food trucks around. The beach is pet friendly. So you can definitely take your pet for a walk here.

Love parksville for the whole family. Good facilities and a large park for kids. U can bring a kite to fly in the green space or just hang at the beach. Food trucks are there along with live entertainment. We were lucky enough to see the sand sculptures and go for a quick swim!

We loved the playground. It was so versatile. So many things to discover for the little ones. And the city keeps working on it and adding new sites. Water plays for the summer, and flush toilets that are clean and work fine. Drinking Water is also available. Loved it.

Always a beautiful beach to take a nice walk along the board walk or to bring the kids to the park. I've been going here since I was little and the new expansions are a blast for the kids.

Beautiful beach! I love how you can wade in the water for a long time, doesn't get deep for awhile. Perfect for kids or those who like to gradually get wet, like me 😜
The water is warm and clean! There's places to have a picnic, kids to play, and just lay out in the sun. Fun in the sun for all!
Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park, situated near Cameron Lake in Canada, is a beautiful state park that offers a plethora of activities such as hiking, swimming and fishing. The park's landscape is characterized by dense forests and steep mountain slopes rising from the edge. The lake provides an ideal opportunity for boating, fishing and swimming while the walking trails alongside the scenic river offer picturesque views of cascading waterfalls. The campground within the park is usually quiet with shady trees providing cover for visitors.
Had a great day here with the family 👪. Parking wasn't an issue as there were plenty of spots. We hiked all over looking at the beautiful views of the water along the way. We started off at the upper falls and made our way around to the lower falls. The temperature seemed just right, plenty of sun and just a few clouds to keep us warm enough to make the entire trek. Make sure to take water and perhaps a snack or lunch for when you are done for the day. I'm definitely coming back in the warmer months to see this place in full swing.

Stunning state park, there are 6 kilometres of trails definitely wear comfy shoes. The stunning lookout views of the upper and lower falls are just spectacular. Make sure to head to nearby Cameron Lake, which is a ten-minute drive away on Highway 4. The clear waters are also great for freshwater scuba diving, sailing and swimming

We went here after our short walk to MacMillan Provincial Park. Lots of trails. You can choose from upper falls or lower falls, or you can do both. There are different parking area. The other one directs you to the day use picnic tables.
I love our scenic walk to the falls. Definitely an easy for me. I saw families with little kids strolling around the trails.

Gorgeous gem of a park; especially in the winter months. The network of trails are really well maintained, and super accessible for people of all ages and ability levels. There are plenty of little cutouts and viewpoints to see the different falls.
It's nice that there are garbage cans and outhouses at the parking lots, plus plenty of parking. And thankfully the parking lots don't get super busy in the off season!

Great falls with a pretty easy and wide trail around them, with only short tougher sections. The trail isn't super shady though, so be prepared in the summer for some heat! There was a great picnic area, with a nice sheltered part too! Really nice park and free! No swimming in or around the falls though, but you can way upstream.

Pretty easy hike with some nice views. If you are in the area, it's worth stopping by. I didn't know that I would go away out of my way though. This whole area of the world is beautiful.

Great place to visit, upper and lower falls have lots of view points. There are stairs to get down to the lower falls so people with mobility issues will have a challenge. Nice hike, beautiful mother nature!

Probably the highlight of the trip for a quick two day visit to Vancouver Island. We saw this on a drive passed and visited on the return... We're not disappointed! It was a spectacular waterfall hike! Beautiful view spots and interesting terrain to navigate. Walk was even really fascinating for a toddler and enjoyed by the dog. Would love to come back to camp in the area... Definitely a place I will come back to!

Not too far from Coombs. The waterfalls is a short distance from the parking lot. The path is steep and there are rocks 🪨 and tree 🌲 roots on the path, so be careful!

Easy parking. Toilets. About 2km walk on easy paths and two bridges.

Beautiful Falls, The trail is very easy and wide. There is a very nice set of stairs and it was not too crowded. Great spot to visit if you are exploring Vancouver Island. There is a Map at the beginning of the trail. very helpful

Wonderful provincial park. The trails are decent, but not very accessible. Stairs, roots and rocky areas. The falls are beautiful. There are bridges near the upper and lower fall areas and trails on each side of the river connecting them. Lots of parking.

Well kept trails, easy walk, falls are minutes from the parking lot.

We dry camped here for one night on the lower loop. Site was clean with plenty of space for our RV. There are showers available on the upper loop.
The trails to the waterfalls are fairly easy and wide. Well worth a stop to see the falls!

We stayed at the campground for 4 days with our pup and it was perfect! The swim spots weren't huge but it never felt too crowded especially if you went in the quiet hours. The washrooms were each individual and had showers but no plugins. The walk around the falls was very beautiful and peaceful. All the staff and fellow campers were very nice and respectful. Definitely one of our campgrounds we're going to have to come back to!

Cathedral Grove, situated in MacMillan Provincial Park near Coombs, is a protected area on Vancouver Island that boasts of towering Douglas fir trees which are over 800 years old. The place is brimming with an ecosystem of lush moss and ferns. Hiking trails at Cathedral Grove are fairly easy and mostly covered with a boardwalk, making it suitable for all hiking levels.
Extraordinary place to watch old trees just next to the highway. Old and massive trees that you can admire and even touch. They have built a wooden passage on one side of the highway. Easy to walk and take pictures. You can't find trees that big anywhere else in Canada. Love it!

Had a beautiful drive to the Cathedral Grove for the first, since I was a child. The grove was more amazing than I remember. Amazing place to forest bath and just take everything and just too feel small. Beautiful new boardwalk, and not too busy, winter might be best time too visit.

An amazing place to visit. Like walking through a movie or different era of time. Trees are so big and tall. A must visit place if you come to Vancouver Island. There is a nice trail both sides of the road but we only walked on one side. There are washrooms but not flush toilets at the entrance.
Chula Madamage — Google review
Both trails A and B were stunning, easy walking trails. We took our time going through the trails, so we were there maybe 1 1/ 2 hours. Both were picturesque trails with the fresh smell of a true forest trail.
Some of the trees were giant - approximately 9m wide! It felt surreal being amongst them when trees are being torn down all around us to build subdivisions and 33-floor apartment buildings. It truly is astonishing to experience!
Kris Sybers — Google review
Some of the most beautiful trees I've seen anywhere, really a sight to behold. It's a little out of the way but 100% worth the drive. Huge thanks to my brother and sister in law for bringing us out here! Could not belive how big and how old many of these trees were.
Jack Pajak — Google review
Was a nice little walk through the trails. A lot of the trees have been blown over (lots are still standing) I would not go when windy though many trees look like they are rotting out. Was a pretty walk with fairly big trees. I recommend boots if it's recently been raining because there are walkways, but the last 5 minutes of the trail, there are not walkways, and it gets really muddy.

Outstanding representation of Nature’s finest work. You’ll be in awe of the height, the age, the overall magnificence of trees that run up to 800 years old (Douglas Firs) + other trees, ie Hemlocks that grow and ‘mingle’ with other flora in this forest. The Grove is a unique example of how wonderful the eco-system of Vancouver Island is and can be where and when we can appreciate the beauty right before us. Do not pass on this stop on the roadway across the Island. It definitely draws a unique crowd. 😌

Walking around this place inspired feelings of awe, wonder, and loss. These huge trees were here long before us and will outlive us. Can you imagine when they covered most of the Island?

Beautiful walk through magnificent Douglas Fir trees! Happy to see they have it wheelchair accessible with a boardwalk through it now.
My only "beef" is the very limited parking there and the large potholes in the parking lot. Hopefully they have plans to fix them soon. Well worth the visit! Awe inspiring place!!

A little muddy, but that is to be expected. I have been here several times but always enjoy stopping here and walking among these ancient sentinels.
The air is always so fresh and the hush of the woods is so wonderful.

Definitely a place you’ll want on your bucket list if you’re in the area. The forest is sacred so please be respectful and obey the signs and pathways. There are lots of places where you can climb logs and touch trees as well as take pictures and access the creek without going off the path. They put a lot of effort into making the forest accessible without disturbing the beautiful scenery.
Darianne Dawn — Google review
Cathedral Grove is a very nice place in the forest. There are only a few parking spaces so you probably have to park a little bit further down the street. There are toilets available. On both sides of the street you can find shirt walking loops through the forest. In the forest you can find trees up to 800 years in age and up to 76 m high.
Benjamin Bahmann — Google review
Excellent stop to see some of Canada’s oldest trees over 500 years old! We did stop in early September and it had reopened (previously closed due to forest fire concerns).
The old tall (& tallest) trees are on the south side with no washrooms. Trails are short and maybe only 5-10 minutes to loop around.
The other side with the public washrooms leads you on a nice boardwalk close to the lake. Again only a 5-10 min loop. Although you can walk farther up and do the walk around the lake which is super long hike and not recommended for children.
The highway is busy so be careful when crossing the road! And watch out for the potholes while exiting the parking back onto the highway.

We stopped at cathedral grove on our way to Bowser where we booked airbnb amodst nature. Cathedral grove is all about short walks/trails in ancient red cedar tress. Threse trees are like hundreds of years old. And it is evident from the barks of the trees. And there is one tallest tree almost at the centre of the park. Yoy can see the forest is kind of humid, lots of moisturizer due to which some trees are fully covered by moss. There is a stream running through the park, it is nice to spend sometimes around. On the other side of the road wooden pathway is made for walking on the map the trails goes to the lake but we couldn't find any branch that goes towards the lake on the wooden path. But it is a good quick spot while visiting Vancouver Island.

Cathedral Grove is a must see on Vancouver Island! There is easy access from the highway where you can park on either side and enjoy both trails. On a sunny day you will be able to enjoy all of the light rays that shine in through the canopy of trees as well as the shadows that it creates. A great peaceful spot for a walk (theres also a river!) and also a lovely place to take photos.

Visited the old growth forest in Cathedral Grove in the Macmillan Park.
We did both loops – giant red cedars on one side and ancient Douglas furs on the other. Both loops totalled about 2 km and much of it is boardwalk so very easy to walk for almost anyone. Awe inspiring and makes you want to protect the very few old growth trees that are left. we were visiting in the middle of January so not very busy. There is very little parking so you would want to get there early or get dropped off somehow.

It is a short walk through the forest but since it's wheelchair accessible 5* was a nice day trip up and about. Approx 10 min walk on one side and 20 min walk on the other at a leisurely pace.

A very nice place to stop for an hour. In our case on the way to Uclulet. But also on the route to Tofino and Port Alberni. Amazing old growth evergreen trees. Access is terrific with elevated platforms and boardwalks. May be accessible for people with mobility issues as I did see a person in a wheelchair enjoying the amazing and massive trees.
Rick Arnau — Google review
What an amazing place to visit. The trees are enormous and so old (some of them over 800 years old). The boardwalks are very well maintained and meander throughout the area. Parking can be a challenge and the traffic zipping by makes it a bit dangerous so be careful getting out of your car and crossing the road!

Definitely worth the stop— very accessible which is great— a special glimpse into the majesty of these massive old growth forests— highly recommended!
Helliwell Provincial Park is a small yet impressive park that offers various scenic views throughout its easy hiking trail, suitable for individuals with different physical abilities. The park boasts beautiful beach scenery, lush trees, and an elevated walking trail by the cliffside. Visitors may even spot some seals by the Northeast corner of the beach. During winter, the Sequoias showcase their breathtaking beauty amidst the snowstorm.
The coastal life...this was a beautiful park to walk in. The actual hike is 5km (1.5hours) but if you roam off, it will be longer. It is quite exposed for most parts. Quiet and serene throughout this hike and only bumped into other people twice. So much to see and explore here - absolutely beautiful. No fee to go and outhouses available not frequently but enough.

What a beautiful place!! Amazing view for forest and ocean. Hike pathway is clear and it’s almost 5 KM length which you can spend 1.5 hours from the start to the same point at end. A little steep but easy to walk but you need to watch for small children and also for dogs. If you’re in Hornby island, you must do this walk.

One of the most beautiful places in British Columbia. Very well maintained walking trail around the park. It takes a little over an hour to do the full loop. Dogs are welcome but it’s best to keep them on leash because of the cliffs. Multiple outhouses in case you need to go.

Beautiful spot to visit. It was a very short trail to see one of the beautiful ocean views in Vancouver Island. The trail loop is around 5km, if you wish you could complete the loop. It is a sudden steep cliff close to the ocean so ensure to follow the trail path.

It's a very small but awe-some park with varying views along an easy hike (accessible for almost all levels of physical ability). It had great beach views, trees and a cliffside walking trail. We even saw some seals while walking along the beach on the Northeast corner of the park.

Highlight of our trip to Hornby! This is a MUST SEE! Easy walk through the park but the views are breathtaking! It was a lot of reward for not a lot of work. We had adults, older kids (9-11) and younger ones (5/6) and everyone loved it. Don't miss it!
Ania Kruger — Google review
It takes approximately 90 minutes to walk the circuit through the woods and then along the cliffs overlooking the ocean, other islands and mainland although if you stop as often as we did to take photos it may take longer. The walk is not difficult although there are some areas where erosion has worn away the surface of the path making it rocky. There are steep cliffs with dangerous drop off areas so parents need to carefully supervise children as well as ensuring that they stay on the marked path. At spots you may see wildlife in the water or on the rocks (we saw sea lions and humpback whales blowing in the distance towards Texada Island). Visitors are asked to stay on the path to protect the fragile ecosystem. There is an outhouse style washroom in the parking lot as well as part way along the walk. The views from the cliffs are spectacular and the trees on top of the ridges are a photographer's dream thanks to their wind carved, trunks and branches. This is a truly wonderful place to go to appreciate the beauty of coastal BC.
Elaine Brown — Google review
Beautiful walk, fairly flat, but watch for loose rocks on the slopes. The cliffs are spectacular, but no guard rails, so watch your step.
Tribune has been an anchor for our Hornby trip for years. The campsite has its own unique experience. Overall very positive. It’s more intimate than a BC Parks campsite but overall, we come here for the beach and not really for the campsite experience.
Again, the great location trumps any minor issues here. Yes, the pit toilets are a bit stinky, the sites can be a bit smaller and closer to others and you hear a bit more people in their sites than other campgrounds.
I think it’s a great place to stay and we keep coming back 😀

Hello, Tribune Bay Campsite Management,
Would be much appreciated if you guys give proper care to your customer's time. Either answer the phone or accept reservations by email since your website does not work! Customer Service is zero rate. I have been trying since 8am - May 1st to get the online form, and your website does not work! Absurd! I hope you guys change this really bad 1st impression of your services by sending the form through email.

Thank you so much for an amazing visit! The kids had an absolute blast and we made lots of fun memories. The campsite is really well cared for and staff were ready to help with any problems or questions. The family-friendly vibe was delightful and the location between the beach and the co-op store made for a stress-fee camping experience. The sites are very close together and there were lots of families, so it was definitely bustling, but we found all the other campers to be chill and considerate, and the quiet hours were respected. The bay at low tide on a sunny day is a slice of paradise. As an Aussie I didn't find the water warm, but it was crystal clear and refreshing on the hot days. The sand was soft and clean. If you wanted to be deep in nature and away from people, this might not be the right place for you but it was perfect for us with 2 small, busy, curious kids. We really look forward to coming back as soon as we can.

Pros: Adjacent to main beach, friendly staff, clean enough, cellphone charging stations, access to groceries store from the campground.
Cons: No flush toilet, you have to pay for shower, water has some kind of smel, road very rough, irregular camping spots,, mostly no privacy or shade. Campsite not maintained properly.

We just got back from spending two nights at Tribune Bay campsite on Hornby Island. The island is beautiful with great hiking rails and sandy beaches. We paid for a spot which had power but it was basically a small sandy depression between bushes and a 15 amp outlet. I had lots of leveling blocks but not enough to make the Lexor happy. Luckily we had great weather but if it had rained I expect we'd still be stuck in the mud there. The roads in the campground were also very rough and rutted so clearance was also a concern. I'd recommend anyone visiting Hornby overnight stay somewhere else.

Careful of getting stuff stolen by local youths.
I've been to the Tribune Bay Campsite each year for 5 a few years now and this was the first time things got stolen from our campsite.
PROS:
-Excellent location to Big Trib Beach, the co-op, coffee shop etc.
CONS:
- This last trip in June, we were staying at campsite 47 and had a cooler full of drinks, a speaker, and some other personal belongings stolen. The site we were at was in the corner backed onto an open field where we believe the people came into the site from so be careful if you're in that area. Our neighbours had their cooler and food stolen as well. So the signs that say "Stow your coolers at night" don't seem to be for animals but rather the people that come and raid the campsite. The front desk knew about these raids but other than the vague signs only other locals know about it happening. So just a word of caution to be careful and put everything away at night. The campsite should caution guests of possible robberies as well if they are happening so often.
-Outhouses only
-It can get loud at night with some campers talking late at night so bring earplugs

Ive read a few bad reviews on here before I came and truly don’t believe them. Came with the family
In our Bigfoot trailer. Yes some camp sites aren’t great but there more awesome sites than not.
The staff was always around cleaning up. Seriously I was poopin and had 2 separate employees tug on the door. Highly attentive and the front desk person was extremely helpful. Firm but fair. I think some people don’t like that and that’s why they are having issues with some.
You’re on Hornby island… it’s not a hotel, it’s not an air bnb it’s camping in a very beautiful place.
The kids playground looks “meh” but I’m an adult. The kids loved it.
Highly recommend going the park was quiet by 10 every night. By quiet I mean still quiet music playing, people talking, walking, laughing. No parties or rowdy groups by or around us. If you’re having an issue with people talking after 10pm get some ear plugs and a sound machine. You’ll sleep like a princess.
Overall great spot. 10/10 would camp again.

This is a nice campsite in a prime location. Conveniently located close to great cafe's and a little grocery store you are right in the tiny and quaint hub of Hornby.
It's also right next to the beach! The out houses were clean and coin operated showers are such a nice treat after a long day at the sandy beach. The staff were all very kind and friendly. The campsites appear to range a bit in terms of privacy provided by bushes and tree's but that is typical of all campsites across BC in my opinion. Although quiet time is at 10PM we were able to stay up much later playing games without incident from our neighbours. Be respectful and enjoy your time on this beautiful island!
Alyssa Jones — Google review
This campground is like a dirt parking lot that’s carved up into tiny campsites not much bigger than 2 parking spots. Very few trees. Booked for three nights, but when we saw how terribly crowded and noisy it was, we forfeited our rez and went to Ford’s Cove campground (very nice). SO grateful we found another option.
Kirsten Pontalti — Google review
The location is amazing but that’s it. The walk to Tribune Bay Beach is super easy and quick, there is a super cute market attached to the campground, with cafes, bakery and delicious pizza.
The camp sites are poor quality, from no privacy (we have 3 neighbour’s behind us), the site are everything except flat, to unmaintained sites, the electrical sites are not equipped to service a RV properly (the power keeps blowing up as the 4th neighbour is drying her hair with a hair blower or the outlet is on the opposite side of your RV plug in, and at the front of the site, if you want power here, you need to bring an extension cord and don’t dry your hair, have lights on and your fridge running all at the same time, 50 amp only). The gravel roads are worst than a FSR, we are far from a BC Park campground here, let’s be clear. We have camped all around BC, and even rec sites are better maintained than here.
The sites are small even the double one. On our first night, there were 2 families with a RV behind us on a shared site. The RV couldn’t open the awning fully, there was 5’ in between RV and they were both in the opposite side of the site.
We will come back when it will be a certified BC Park, until then, we will go to Tofino.
Caroline Picard — Google review
My husband and I camped here for the first time in May of 2023 and we would camp here again. The location is great with Tribune Bay a short walk from the camp site. The staff were exceptional and the common areas were clean and tidy. The sites are a little close together but they are well maintained and equipped.
Stacey Olson — Google review
Pros: walkway to Tribune bay beach, Co-op grocery store attached to campsite.
Con: If you’ll camping in one tent, be prepared to have neighbours just next to you, around 6ft. The shower costs $1 each 2min. The campsite is good for no more than 4 people and 1 tent only. The power switch for phone chargers are in the office and close at 7pm.
In our experience last year, we had a young couple with a baby what make us go to bed before 10pm. Also, a fire banished, but people in RV were allowed to light their fire pits.
Unfortunately, no matter how many bad evaluations people do, they will never change because there’s no other way to capping in Tribune bay if you don’t stay in their campground. This evaluation is to let people aware about the bad service.

Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park preserves the Horne Lake Caves, a renowned attraction on Vancouver Island. The park offers opportunities to explore a network of caves through guided tours ranging from moderate to advanced levels. Visitors can embark on self-guided expeditions in the Lower Cave, Andres Annex and the initial 20 meters of the Main Cave.
This was our first Caving experience and it did not disappoint. Our cave guide Alex was super informative and funny as well. There was plenty to learn on the hike to the cave, as there was inside of the cave. It's not just a walk in a cave and feel that the pricing of the cave tour was fair, considering the amount of information the guides have. (We also got lucky with their Spring Break promo!) We will definitely be back to try the multicave adventures and the more intermediate experiences. Thank you for the experience! Definitely one of the highlights of our Spring Break!

We had so much fun on our Horne Lakes Cave Tour with Ryan. We aren't cavers but do play in caves when we can and the two cave tour was perfect. I would rate them as easier caves to visit and explore with some fun elements to keep you on your toes and they are full of beautiful features. Our Guide Ryan was engaging and a pleasure to spend a few hours with. I would definitely recommend these programs and I would go back in a heartbeat. We went in early December and there was snow on the ground but the trail system was well maintained and easy to travel on. I really enjoyed the two cave tours mix of walking in the forest and time spent in the caves.

It was my husband and I’s first time experiencing caving and it will definitely not be our last! Hiking at Horne Lake Caves was such a fun experience. We did the Multi-Cave Experience and the difficulty level would be 3/5 stars.
Our tour guide was awesome - So hilarious and entertaining. He kept us feeling secure & safe and explained every step to take thoroughly. There was also a little bit of hiking involved. We went when it was slightly raining but that made the experience all the more fun!
We 100% would recommend this adventure to everyone.

It was our first time caving. We didn't know what to expect but we had a great experience. You definitely want to wear gloves and good hiking shoes. Lots of boulders to climb over and down. So I really liked getting to actually explore a cave. So amazing. Our guide, Ryan, was funny and very knowledgeable.
I'm deducting one star simply because as a 6'6" guy I bumped my head (with helmet on) a couple times and with the helmet cutting my upwards vision off, I got paranoid I was going to keep hitting it as I couldn't quite see. Also there is a 1km walk, all uphill, to get to the cave. I picked the easy cave experience because it said no vertical climbing. It didn't say the trek there was all vertical climbing. It was hard for one of our party with arthritis.
Overall, a fab experience though!! Worth going to if you're on the Island. Learned lots about the Islands geology.

The Riverside cave was quite easy to get through in comparison to the Main cave which had some tight squeezes, but was very doable and Oscar did a great job at giving us the confidence to get through. I thought I'd be claustrophobic but this was very fun and I'd love to come back for another tour in the future.

I recently had an unforgettable caving experience with my friends at Horn Lake Caves, and I just had to share how amazing it was! Our tour guide, Chloe, truly made our adventure exceptional. Her knowledge, enthusiasm, and high spirits added an extra layer of excitement to our day.
We participated in the "Achilles Challenge" tour, which provided us with a series of exhilarating challenges. From belly crawling through narrow passages to rope swinging over underground chasms, Chloe ensured that every moment was filled with excitement and adventure. Her expertise in navigating the caves and her attention to safety gave us the confidence to push our boundaries and embrace the experience fully.
One aspect that stood out to us was Chloe's ability to cater to the needs of each individual in our group. It was the first caving experience for some of my friends, and Chloe's patient and reassuring nature immediately put them at ease. She provided clear instructions, demonstrated techniques, and offered guidance whenever needed, making everyone feel comfortable and secure throughout the journey.
The variety of challenges in the tour was fantastic. Climbing up and down rocks with the assistance of harnesses and navigating rope ladders tested our physical abilities and added an extra element of thrill. Chloe's expertise and encouragement propelled us to overcome our fears and accomplish tasks we didn't think were possible.
The moments we spent inside the cave were truly remarkable. Chloe's extensive knowledge of the caves' geology, history, and wildlife added a fascinating educational aspect to our adventure. She shared captivating stories and intriguing facts, making the experience not only thrilling but also intellectually stimulating.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Chloe for her exceptional guidance and dedication. Her passion for caving and her infectious enthusiasm created an atmosphere of pure joy and excitement. Thanks to her, my friends and I had an unforgettable time exploring the Horn Lake Caves.
If you're looking for an incredible caving experience with a knowledgeable and spirited guide, I highly recommend the "Achilles Challenge" tour with Chloe. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! This adventure is perfect for both enthusiastic beginners and experienced cavers alike. It is not ideal for those who have waist size more than 115 cm, because the belly crawls are too tight. Prepare to be amazed and have the time of your life!
Thank you, Chloe, for an unforgettable adventure. We can't wait to return for another thrilling exploration of the caves!

Wow! So fun! I was super nervous at first, this is something totally out of my comfort
zone! My husband was super thrilled with the experience, and was very into the caving challenge! I really enjoyed myself! Our calm funny, and knowledgeable tour guide Miles made our time in the caves unforgettable with his puns and fun facts! 10/10 tour through the caves at Horne Lake!

Went on the Riverbend Cave tour, difficulty 2 out of 5, with family of 4 (2 adults, kids age 10 & 14). I'd say the hike up to the cave was more effort than in/out of the cave itself. Educational/interesting and a bit of a challenge. Had a great time!

Haven't been in these caves since I was a kid. Curtis --our guide-- was knowledgeable and punny in the best ways and gives an excellent experience for someone who knows nothing about rocks And those who do. The caves themselves are a wonder of the island and I will be back again because I need myself a belly crawl in the season that it's available.
Cheers and thanks the great folks giving great times

Highly recommend!
This was my second time to Horne Lake Caves. At our first visit we participated in the tour now called the 'Max Depth Adventure' it was absolutely incredible! During this more recent visit I took my six year old son and we partook in the 'Riverbend Cave Explorer' tour. A phenomenal adventure where you can see calcite growing in the caves, stalagmites, stalactites and even experience absolute darkness! The adventure begins with an introduction to caving and a hike across a suspension bridge. The hike continues uphill for 30 minutes through a temperate rainforest. Our guide, Mo, was absolutely wonderful. Very personable and ensured everyone on the tour was comfortable. When booking, note the age restrictions in place for the varied guided tours. The washrooms on-site are port-a-potties. There is a gift shop where you can purchase souvenirs, drinks and snacks, it is also where you register for your tour. I definitely recommend purchasing tickets in advance as the tours have limited capacity and they do sell out. The drive to the caves is very scenic but also mostly on a dirt road.

A must visit if you are on the island and are adventurous. There are several different types of tour and I'd love to come back during summer time when some of the longer ones become available. The tour guide was amazing and it was not only a fun experience but also a highly educational one. We are fortunate to be so close to caves that we can explore and the price is very reasonable.

My brother and I had such a great time on the max depth tour today. The caves were amazing, so many cool formations and it was a lot of fun to move through with the crawl throughs and repels. Oscar our guide was fantastic with all of his cave details and upbeat attitude.

Did the Max Depth adventure with a group of five. Absolute 10/10 experience. We were lucky to have a fairly capable group (shout outs to Trent, Maddie, and Michael), and our guide, Chloe, made an outstanding effort to up the ante and increase the challenge in various fun and exciting ways. The caves were amazing, but Chloe took the experience to the next level, she was utterly fantastic from start to finish. Would highly, highly recommend.

We did the River Bend Cave Tour lead by Curtis and it was awesome. Curtis was fun and informative and the tour was a really good intro to caving. Definitely coming back for some of the more longer/challenging experiences!

I had a fantastic experience doing the 2.5 hour tour with Erin! She was a wonderful, funny, informative, and extremely capable guide that made the whole group feel very comfortable and in safe hands.
It felt like a very personal experience, and she was very encouraging and supportive for everyone climbing over/squeezing through spaces, and for taking photos! I joined the tour solo and it was great, very comfortable and fun to be in a small group of people of all ages having fun.
It was also easy to book and get sorted - but do keep in mind that the road in is 11 km of gravel with a ton of potholes! My sedan managed it, but allocate extra time to drive in. A hardy vehicle would do you good.
There are also very clean pit toilets outside the visitor center.
Amna Kazmi — Google review
We took 2.5 hour cave tour at Horne Lakes Caves over American Thanksgiving. What a great educational tour. Erin, our guide, was both knowledgeable and passionate about caving. The path to the trails was uphill but manageable for most people with a moderate fitness level. The caves themselves were easy to navigate and Erin made the pace slow giving people time to acclimate to the new surroundings.
The park area around the caves is beautiful with the lake and many trails to explore. A visit to Horne Lake is a lovely day trip at any time of year for people young and old. Bring your own food and dress appropriately (see Lake Horne Cave tour video for what to wear), clean bathrooms are available. We will be back in the summer to do more caving with Horne Lake Caves.
beverly aabjerg — Google review
We hiked the trails but didn't do the guided tours. The switchbacks help, and the trails are well maintained, but you definitely need stamina and 'climbing legs'.
There are nice educational signs along the way that you can use to rest without looking lazy or out of shape ("Hey kids, let's read these signs and learn about caves!").
The road is gravel and full of potholes, so it's an adventure to get here, but the remoteness has probably helped keep things less damaged from the worst tourists...

Had a great time at Willingdon Beach Park. There's a burger, chicken finger & fries stand, decent sized park for the kids, water park, ice cream and mini golf across the street as well. Definitely great spot for camping or day use for the whole family. Would highly recommend checking out.

Nice place for picnic and you can enjoy lot of activities like playing volleyball, walking along the trail reaching upto second beach, doing swimming. Above all during evening people come here especially to see one of the world's best Sunset view from here.

Such a lovely little park and beach! There is a volleyball court, 2 playgrounds, a waterpark, a dock to jump into the water from and so many trees for those who need a break from the sun! There is also a sweet little cafe/fish and chip place! All these things make this park a wonderful must see. You don't quite get to see as much of the water as you may like but all the amenities make up for it!

We had already spent the day at another beach in the area but wanted to take in the sunset at Willingdon Beach Park. We were not disappointed. There were some benches to just rest at and drink in the vibrant colours.
This park is perfect for everyone- there’s a playground- plenty of grass area…loads of beach access. Simply lovely!

We had a wonderful stay at Willingdon. It was very clean, quiet, and the camp hosts were very good at communicating I liked the privacy of the campground. Showers/laundry/front gate all only accessible with a key and it felt very secure. They also went through extra mile and gave us a little bundle of kindling and paper with our fire wood. First dry fire wood we'd had at a campground since we got to the west coast. 🤣
We would definitely come here again.
Well worth the trip to see the park. We visited during the salmon run, highly recommended. It’s very impressive to see how the salmon navigate the ladders which have been built to increase the spawning rate through the falls.
Jeff P — Google review
We stayed here twice in September 2023, about 2 weeks apart. First time we got there around 11am and snagged the last available camping spot. The salmon were running, but the river was low-ish and not many were making it up the fish ladders. We did see bears every day.
Second visit, later in September after some good rains, the river was up and the salmon were still running so it was wonderful to see them crowding the fish ladders. We saw lots of bears fishing. Campground was not so full this time and we got a fabulous riverfront spot. Great place to stay. Both visits we really enjoyed walking up and down the river to the fish ladders and far lookouts, amazed at the number of fish in the river and delighted to watch the bears. Met one right on the trail at one point, so keep your kiddos close.

Amazing park to visit when the salmon run is taking place. Bears sites in area down stream, where the water was not flowing as quickly.

A must-visit place in October. The best place to see wild animals, including salmon and bears chasing them. As a bonus, even otters.
Narrow coastal park with a sandy beach, walking trails & wildlife, plus picnic tables & fire pits.
Sandy beaches, outstanding sunsets, wood structures, mountains and so many beautiful rocks!
Unless you’re will to cut through the military base (definitely not recommend, private property) simply be aware you must turn around at the point :) really enjoyed this place ✌️

Beautiful drive to the park.lil bit hard to find a parking but worth visit it.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Goose Spit Park in Courtney and it was an absolutely amazing experience! From the stunning natural surroundings to the well-maintained facilities, this park exceeded all of my expectations.
Firstly, the park's location is simply breathtaking. As soon as you enter, you are greeted with the most stunning views of the ocean and mountains. The beach at Goose Spit Park is pristine, with soft sand and crystal-clear water. It's the perfect place to relax, take a stroll, or even have a picnic with family and friends.
The park itself is very well-designed and offers something for everyone. There are plenty of walking trails that wind through the park, allowing visitors to explore and immerse themselves in nature. I enjoyed taking a leisurely walk and spotting the various wildlife that call the park home.
One aspect that truly impressed me was the cleanliness and maintenance of the park. Despite being a popular destination, the grounds were spotless and well-kept. The park staff does a wonderful job of ensuring that the park remains clean and inviting for all visitors.
Moreover, the facilities at Goose Spit Park are top-notch. The washrooms were clean and easily accessible, and there were ample picnic tables and benches for visitors to use. It was evident that the park management puts a lot of effort into maintaining a comfortable and enjoyable experience for guests.
Lastly, I was thrilled to find out that Goose Spit Park offers a variety of recreational activities. Whether you're interested in swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, or even beach volleyball, there is something for everyone to enjoy. It's a great place to spend a day with family, friends, or even alone.
Overall, my time at Goose Spit Park in Courtney was truly unforgettable. The beautiful surroundings, well-maintained facilities, and the range of activities available all contributed to an exceptional experience. I highly recommend visiting this park to anyone looking to reconnect with nature.

Goose Spit
May 17/2022. The view here is wide & broad. The day we were here, spring weather was strong winds with a mix of sun with rain. Liquid sunshine. The tide was out & landlocked a couple of dolphins that were feeding on fish that attracted many. There's a totem pole at the far end of the spit, accessible by the beach only because the road runs through a section with military control.
A lady at the gate, informed us we couldn't drive to the pole. That's far another day in warmer weather.

Nice, quiet place to park and relax by the water. The views were pretty even though we went there on an overcast day. It’s certainly an interesting place, but not ‘spectacular’ in comparison to many other places in BC. It can get somewhat busy, but there’s a pretty decent amount of parking.

Over-rated! Pebbles Beach. Nice views, though, but fewer shades and not much space on either side of the strip.

Nice spot to watch the sun set and for paddle bordering/kayaking. One side is a rocky beach (water shoes recommended) and the other side is grassy with lots of sea weed. My rating is based on hanging out here and watching the sunset. For swimming, it is not the best given all the other options near by.

It's a nice long walk, from end to end, with pretty good views all around. The beach is closed off from the road so it can block the wind coming from the southeast... It's a really cool place to watch kite surfers, etc. New Years gives a surround firework show. Sunrise and sunset are pretty spectacular as well.
MissTaken Awakening (STkY) — Google review
It's an alright spot to walk around the spit, or standup paddleboard in the bay. You will likely see a couple seals. On rare occasions whales/orcas will travel by, but not as close as other spots in the area (ex: Point Holmes, Kye bay, etc). The main spit stretch is littered with logs, rocks, and tree debris, so it's recommended to not walk around bare foot. The bay side is also horrible for flip flops, as the sand is pretty muddy and will suction most footwear as you step onto it.
The hook of the spit has a beach that is apparently referred to as "Little Mexico" - as the sand is nicer. The water in the bay area isn't as clear as the shore side.
Overall this area is a nice place to jog, walk, or hangout with people. There is also the staircase at the base of the spit that people use for exercise.

There is often something going on around the beach. Whether it's people wind surfing on windy days. Or there's a herring run, sea lions splashing, people playing, or a beautiful sky to to see. It's part of my community and great place to go and hang out for awhile. The first pic is of herring roe(eggs) washed upon the beach.

It’s also fun to walk on the logs and our dog found some sticks to play with.
Sunsets are very beautiful here as well.
Can get quite busy but decent amount of parking.
Wow! We had the best time doing a zodiac boat tour with Jan. We saw whales, seals, sea lions, starfish, mountains and more! We got to swim, ate an incredible meal and learned so much. We can't recommend this trip enough! It was the highlight of our trip to the Sunshine coast.

We booked the 6hours tour to Desolation Sound. Everthing went smooth, we booked the tour via telephone. When we arrived at the office of Terracentric Coastal Adventures we had a nice welcome. Paperwork was done quickly and the tour started on time. Our Skipper David was just wonderful. He had a lot of knowledge about the Desolation Sound, the wildlife and the history of the First Nation. Also a super sense of humor and many stories to tell. He made the tour extra enjoyable.

We were so amazed with our 3.5 hour tour of Desolation Sound with Terracentric. We were lucky to have Dave as our Captain and guide. He was so helpful and knowledgeable! We saw an abundance of marine life and birds. Dave informed us of the rich history of the area from First Nation settlement and archeology to the surveying of the coastline, to the later development of Lund and neighbouring island communities. It was also really incredible to swim in the warm waters of Desolation Sound. Thanks so much to Dave and what a great opportunity to see all of the beauty of this region of BC!!!

Renting kayaks for our 5 day trip to Desolation Sound with Terracentric Coastal Adventures went really well. They had a larger size kayaks ready for our longer stay to accommodate rather larger food and H2O supplies , booking went smoothly and the staff was very kind. We got few tips from the educated and experienced staff for our trip as well that helped us along the journey.

We did the half day zodiac boat tour. I loved hearing about the history of the area and taking in the view. We didn't catch a glimpse of any whales but we did see some seals! I loved the flexibility of the tour as Matt, our captain, stopped so we could snorkel around a tiny island. Next time I'm in Lund I plan to do the full day tour to explore the sound further!

I've done four or five tours in about 10 years with Terracentric. I like to showcase the more wild regions of the area when friends and family come to visit. We were made to feel safe and comfortable. The food served at lunch was home made, locally sourced, sufficient to sate us and fantastic. The guides are well trained and knowledgeable as to the geography, biology, and history of the area. First Nations relics, sacred sites, and village sites were explained with reverence and respect for the original inhabitants of this land, the Klahoose, Homalco, and Tla'amin, whose territory we were travelling through.
We did the 8 hour Desolation Sound and Beyond tour, and although not cheap, was certainly great value for the cost. Each tour can provide different opportunities for wildlife and nature viewing. We travelled alongside a pod of orcas on this recent trip! On another trip, which was later in the season a few years ago, we saw sea bird nesting colonies
I'm sure I'll be taking a tour with Terracentric Coastal Adventures again.

Seal Bay Nature Park is a vast and well-maintained park that offers forest trails for wildlife watching and waterfront areas for bird and seal viewing. It is an ideal location to spend quality time with the family while taking a walk in the forest. This park is accessible throughout the year, with every season offering its unique surprises. Children can enjoy a fun rope swing located close to the water, while visitors can also admire seals from afar.
If you like longer walk through the woods, this is the park you need to discover.
While there is a main parking location, the paths can be entered from a dozen locations. The main paths are wide, gravelled and well maintained. Sub-trails are not as well developed but still satisfactory.
Well worth a visit.

It's a magical place with huge, ancient trees by the Pacific Ocean. A bald eagle welcomed us, followed by herons, sea otters, colorful starfish on the rocks. I learnt about a new animal that I haven't heard of before: geoduck. The beach was full of them! They ran down the sand with an impressively incredible speed while spitting water upwards when you touched them. Our day was out of a documentary!

Miracle Beach Provincial Park is a family-friendly beach situated between Courtenay and Campbell River on Vancouver Island. The area boasts a sandy beach with tide pools, great for swimming and water activities such as kayaking or SUPing, but caution should be taken around tidal currents. In addition to the beach, there are campsites, picnic areas, hiking trails and a playground.
Had a chance to drop by before heading up north. What a surprise. The beach was big and quiet. Low tide, so we had to walk further up to the ocean. There are lots of small crabs 🦀 and creatures.
Washroom has mirror that you can actually see your self and with automatic flushing toilets. It was clean and everything seemed very well maintained. They had separate changing rooms as well.

Fantastic site to take your family. A park for the kids, showers, and flush / tank bathrooms.
The men's bathroom could use another toilet, but just go at non peak times. The beach is not a sandy beach, but that doesn't ruin the experience. Bring swim shoes, and enjoy the sun and shallow tide beach.

Incredible views! The tide pools are really something to behold. Very well maintained facilities as well. Definitely worth a visit! The campgrounds are clean and level, great for tent camping and RVs alike. There is also an area for RVs to empty their water tanks and fill back up again (though there is a $5 discharge fee, only payable with loonies and toonies, so make sure you bring change.)

Beautiful natural setting to enjoy the ocean, forest and estuary!
New toilet and shower facilities, lots of new picnic tables, and a large undercover group area. Recycling and garbage bins throughout the park. A series of short trails close to the water wind through the forest and take you out to the ocean, estuary or the two parking lots. There's a campground, nature house, and longer trails in other areas of the park.
Super family friendly, and great spot to walk your dogs (if on a leash, and not directly on the beach!) The water was calm when we visited so boating is an option too.
The sun sets behind the trees fairly early in the evening, so don't expect a warm, sunny end to the day if you come later! I'm used to west-facing beaches with beautiful sunsets and warm evening light. Being east-facing, this is not the beach for that. Just bring an extra sweater! 😉

Since then, I have been trying to find them again, but to no avail. However, a kind lady working at a store in Qualicum Beach recommended I visit Miracle Beach, and so I did. The moment I laid my eyes on the sand dollars here, I knew it was worth the trip.
The scenery is breathtaking; surrounded by mountains, the massive ocean provides a relaxing atmosphere. The waterline is simply stunning, and the water is clear, adorned with the smooth texture of the sand, rocks, the many baby crabs, and various types of fish. In all honesty, I was amazed by the incredible beauty of this place.
Needless to say, I will be returning to this paradise again, and I recommend it to anyone who has not been there yet.

It's a HUGE campground! The sites vary in size so make sure you know what size you'll need. It books up crazy fast so you'll want to book next year's trip now. You can book up to 1 year in advance, I believe. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the sheer size of it. It's a very busy place, but there's trees/shrubs between campsites so you do have a measure of privacy. The water is cold and surprisingly clean. It's a great family campground.

It's an amazing campground.. good atmosphere, great showers/ toilets for a campground.
The beach is close to the campgrounds. It's rocky, not really sandy, but still a great beach. Would definitely come back.

It's the most amazing beach I've been to in Canada. The sand is walkable in feet so shies aren't necessarily needed. The water was warm and it's September, it was a gorgeous day.

We loved our time here! Beautiful campground with private, good sized campsites. Very short walk to the beach from any campsite. Lots of flush toilet bathrooms throughout and a shower with private stalls in the centre. There is a playground for kids, and lots of quiet roads for kids to ride their bikes. The front gate sells firewood, ice and other camping necessities such as sunscreen.
It's very busy on weekends and can be loud, but that's to be expected of any campground. We went mid-week and it was lovely because it wasn't too busy.

I had kayaked with Coast Mountain ten years ago to Toba Inlet. I heard about Butte Inlet and the Grizzly bears then and always wanted to return. I finally had my chance and it surpassed all my expectations. The kayaking was a challenge, 7-12 nautical miles each day. The guides and a couple of the other experienced kayakers gave me sound advice and I improved 100%. Butte Inlet is gorgeous and seeing the Grizzly bears at the end was a lifetime experience. 18 in 3 hours! The food is outstanding, fresh baked breads, home grown vegetarian meals. It is worth to come on one of these trips just for the food. The land part of the trip is rugged and I found it more challenging then the kayaking. I was the oldest (74). The cooperative spirit and camaraderie of the group and leaders made these challenges doable and enjoyable.

Just back from the Desolation Sound trip. What an amazing experience! The trip-food was like no other you'll ever experience, especially if you're tripping on your own. The guides, the loveliest people you could imagine, with leadership skills beyond their years. And the sites and sounds of kayaking and camping in and around the ocean surrounded by mountains are unbeatable; whales, seals, sea stars, bald eagles, need I say more?. I would highly recommend signing up for a trip with this company. You won't be disappointed!

The Octopus Islands trip was our first with CME and probably won’t be our last. The entire trip from start to finish was flawlessly planned, the guides were the best I’ve ever encountered, and the food was fantastic and even catered as much as possible to gluten, dairy and soya-free sensitivities. Before the trip, Albert answered all and every question I had. I appreciated that the trip began with a review and practice of paddling skills so that less experienced paddlers could learn the basics. The guides, Anthony and Liam, were an energetic upbeat attentive team that didn’t miss a beat in keeping us organized and happy on the trail. They were also very knowledgeable about the human and natural history of the area, as was Ralph, which made for interesting lectures/discussions as well as rich paddles during low tides through Surge Narrows and Hole in the Wall. The food either cooked, or planned by Lannie and cooked by the guides, never failed to please. They also provided very good gear, as in kayaks and kayaking paraphernalia, tents and sleeping pads. I honestly can’t think of how they could have improved our experience on the trip. Well, they could have dispensed with the rain on the last day, but then the hot tub may not have seemed quite so nice.

Looking for a mini adventure and a place to spend some time with our friends (another couple), the four of us signed on for the 3-night Kayak Lodge Getaway tour at the Read Island lodge (original homestead property of our hosts). My wife and I do not have much kayaking experience but we like to get out, learn and try new things. It was also a great thing to do for a 50th birthday celebration.
Our expectations were greatly exceeded by the hospitality and friendliness of our hosts (Ralph and Lannie), the professional, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides (Will, Albert and Jo), and everyone else that made our adventure, meals and stay welcoming, delicious and amazingly memorable.
The property, which is set on 100+ acres at the end of Evans Bay on Read Island, is a treasure on its own. The picture-perfect location with its small creeks, rocky out crops, beautiful ocean bay and large trees is the ideal place for a lodge. The lodge and two other cabins comfortably hold 10 guests, which makes for a nice small group to enjoy the kayaking and hanging out.
Amenities on the property include a wood-fired hot tub overlooking the bay, a wood-fired sauna up along one of the creeks with a cold pool for dipping in after the hot sauna. The outdoor showers are hot and refreshing after the days kayak or first thing in the morning.
The lodge became the central hub when not out on the water. Lannie’s use of her gardens, flowers and access to fresh seafood combined to create marvellous group meals and kept us all full on some of the best homemade meals ever.
After settling in to our room upon arrival, we were all encouraged to partake in some basic Kayak lessons before dinner. By providing this before the first day trip, it helped everyone build up their confidence and familiarize themselves with their craft and equipment. All the equipment is of excellent quality and everything you need except clothing and personal items are provided.
During our two big kayak day trips, Lannie prepared packable lunches that the crew served mid trip on a secluded beach. The guides were always enthusiastic and willing to demonstrate or coach you with paddling techniques or talk about the surrounding area. We saw eagles, porpoises, seals, and a number of Humpback whales. The sea life within this area of the Discovery Islands is very rich due to the currents feeding the area with nutrients. So much to see and experience! We even had what seemed to be a couple of whales interested in checking us out - which became a highlight of the trip for many.
The icing on the cake came late at night on the last day. We kayaked around Evans Bay near the lodge after sunset to witness the magical bioluminescence created by the movement of each paddle stroke and marvel at the night sky full of stars, planets and the Milky Way.
Check out their website for more information. They were very good at responding to my questions before and after we booked the trip.
I give my highest recommendations to anyone wanting to take a kayak trip in such an incredible place. Coast Mountain Expeditions and their crew will take care of you and provide you with a great adventure.
I hope to come back soon and bring my whole family. Maybe we will try one of the multi-day kayaking trips.
Amazing trip!

Coast Mountain Expeditions (CME) Rocks! Albert persuaded me that paddling to Bute Inlet was within my capabilities ("mature" woman with minimal kayaking experience here!) and all I needed was a spirit of adventure. I brought that and CME provided the rest. An incredible wilderness adventure, with 2 amazing, professional, supportive, hardworking and safety conscious young women (Rachel and Katrina) as our guides. Our equipment looked all but new. The food provided by Lannie (and help) mostly from her garden was absolutely delicious and expertly cooked by the guides. Delicious snacks seemed to appear every 5 minutes to fortify our working bodies. I returned with heart full, a strong body and a soul filled to overflowing. My only concern is that by writing this review there will be no room for my next trip with them. Thanks you all at CME for providing an incredible adventure and for all you are doing to protect your part of the planet Earth.

As an outdoorsy person, I thought putting together a West coast paddle trip would be easy. Pack gear, find boat, use map. It's not that easy! Thankfully Coast Mountain had everything to get us sorted. All the gear, beautiful lodges to start and finish from, and tons on knowledge about the area. Tidal currents are no joke! Glad to have guides advice for navigating those. The discovery islands are a very special part of Canada. Easy to access and well worth the visit. Plus... so many whales and Oysters!

Coast Mountain Expeditions run top-notch kayaking adventures in the Discovery Islands. Guides are knowledgeable and fun; the gear was in great condition; the food was fantastic -- much of it sourced from their own garden on Read Island. I highly recommend having a kayak adventure with this company. There are different trips to meet various skill levels. The Bute Inlet trip was fabulous!
The Museum at Campbell River offers a fascinating journey through the region's history and culture. It provides insights into indigenous heritage, natural history, and maritime traditions. Visitors can explore native American artifacts, watch films in a small theater, and learn about significant events like the use of explosives to clear navigation choke points. The museum features full-sized dioramas of float homes, cabins, and hotels as well as an interesting collection of indigenous masks and artifacts.
So much more than I would have expected! Full sized dioramas of a float home, cabin, hotel, not unlike the RBCM. One of the first logging trucks - so interesting. Great collection of indigenous masks and other artifacts, though interpretation in that area in need of update and expansion. In other areas interpretation concise and digestible. Good use of limited space.

They built this place hoping the cruise ships would dock here, alas those guys never got the memo, there were 8 people visiting in the 2 hours I was here. Interesting collection of native American artifacts, and a selection of films to watch in a small theatre. If you are interested in learning about the history of the area this is a must see. I had no idea they used massive explosives to blast an island to clear a navigation choke point. Watch the ripple rock video, it's a BLAST, literally. Sad to know Canadians used .50 Calibre Browning Machine Guns to kill orca "whales" (dolphins really) once upon a time. Equally sad is how racial minorities were treated here in the early 20th and 19th century. The "iron chink" exhibit and the WW2 Japanese internment exhibit shows stark contrast with today's vibrant multiracial population of BC. How wealthy would First Nations tribes be if they owned the leases to all the buildings in Vancouver. Great exhibit on how they "lost it all".

Elk Falls Provincial Park and Protected Area is a nature park in British Columbia that offers various activities such as hiking, cycling, swimming, fishing, picnicking, and playing in the playground. The park surrounds the impressive Elk Falls waterfall which drops almost 85 feet down into a deep canyon with steep cliffs and a pool at the bottom. Visitors can explore the old growth Douglas fir forest or go fishing for trout, chinook salmon or salmon in the lakes.
Beautiful area to walk around, great for having a snack or lunch and just listen to the water. Such a great day to get put and experience all the wonders of this amazing island 🏝. Not too bad of a walk/hike less than 5km for sure. Whole family loved the day, fresh air and exercise. I highly recommend this location 👌

Just outside Campbell River. What a gem! Nice, enjoyable walk in. Warning for those with mobility issues.....there are quite a few stairs just before the falls/bridge. For me, a little nerve wracking to cross the bridge.....but glad I mustered up the courage! :) Beautiful scenery!

Absolutely amazing! The waterfall itself is so beautiful and then the added suspension bridge let's you view it from above and different angles and the thrill of being so high up above the canyon. The path is well maintained. You can't use a stroller only because there are a lot of stairs leading down to the lookout and suspension bridge.

Not a bad place to hike since when I went there it was kinda wet so if you come just be a bit prepared incase since it may be wet there. The views there are amazing and it’s really amazing. On the other part of the park is the suspension bridge which is really fun to go on but kind of scary at first but if you go there you gotta go on the bridge otherwise your missing out.

Awesome place for a short day trip. The walking routes can be short or longer depending how much you want to do. Some big redwood trees scattered in here, was nice to see since i couldn't get to cathedral grove. Waterfall is awesome, can access the rapids and there is a "rock beach" at the top above the rapids where its almost dead still. The water is cold and delicious! There is a safe spot at the top of the rapids to access water where there is current so its fresh. Glad i decided to make the trip to Campbell river.

Just a stunning well maintained park. Very walkable for all abilities. Every corner you turn there's something else gorgeous to look at. The old growth trees were my favourite.
Elk Falls Suspension Bridge is a popular attraction in Campbell River, BC. It offers visitors the opportunity to walk across the bridge and enjoy stunning views of Elk Falls Provincial Park. The hike to the bridge is family-friendly and takes about 10 minutes from the parking lot along a forest trail with some staircases. The area is known for its beautiful trails that are well-maintained and not too crowded, providing a peaceful experience for nature enthusiasts.
Enjoyed the drive out here, very scenic and beautiful. There were a fair amount of people here but nothing too crazy. Turned out to be a beautiful day and we had amazing views of the entire area. The suspension bridge 🌉 was amazing but also vertigo inducing as well. The whole family made it across and back then we went to the viewing platform and took some pics there. At the right angle and time you can see some rainbow 🌈 colors in the mist. There are other trails that will lead down to the water itself so be careful when there and keep and eye on younger kids. A great start to our Easter 🐣 long weekend trip. Highly recommended for all ages and we will definitely be back again.

Some of the walk is through construction which takes away from the majesty of the place but it was still a nice, fairly easy, walk to the falls. I'm not a huge fan of the metal stairs and bridge, it feels like it could get slippery and falling on it would be terribly painful. The falls are nice and the bridge is sturdy. Probably not going to fill your suspendían bridge desires compared to others in BC, but if you are nearby, it's worth a visit.

A good short hike if you have an hour or so to spend. Well established trails with guards around the trail. The suspension bridge gives a good view of the falls and the canyon further beyond. Very much enjoyed the walk.

A truly spectacular site! There is plenty of parking at the entrance and it is an easy walk to the falls although there are a lot of stairs to get to the viewing platforms and the suspension bridge. The falls are really amazing and the only spot to see them really clearly is from the suspension bridge. The viewing platform at the end of the bridge is actually a bit disappointing, as the best views are from the middle of the bridge. There is also a nice platform across from the bridge accessible from another trail. The trees in the area are also worth time with a few showing deep scars from a past forest fire.

This is one of the reasons I love hiking in Campbell River. The fresh air, trail and lovely pine trees leading to Elk falls is always the highlight of our trek. This is such an amazing project by the Rotarians. The construction and care for safety makes it easy to enjoy such a majestic and powerful force of nature. The mist churned up by the water makes it magical, and the multiple viewing platforms (4) are each unique. The additional signage and info around the hydro-electric penstock history/upgrades (in progress 2023) was a neat informative addition to our nature walk. Despite all the machinery, the on site workers were particularly friendly.

Beautiful views! Not a long walk from the parking lot, but I immediately felt like I was deep in the forest, so it was really enjoyable. I love the variety of trees species. The suspension bridge is clearly very strong and is an attraction in itself. It offers great views both up and downstream. The viewing platforms are also nice.

Really cool park the suspension bridge was terrifying but not because of the bridges construction but because of the crazy drop below the bridge. What a view! Best fishing trip ever. Hosts were awesome, food was great and all the staff were helpful and courteous. Guides were the best and when fishing was slow they tried different areas and lures and we were back into fish again. Lunch kits were made up for each boat and were really good. Accommodations were totally the best, small, clean comfortable and were made up when we were out fishing. Evening meals were some of the best I have ever tasted, and the presentation was equal or better than high class restaurants in the city.
If you ever want to try the best fishing trip ever, I highly suggest Reel Obsession. We are already talking about a return trip next season.

That's on a whole different level!! 5 star quality food. Prepared menu so you sit down and enjoy the company of fellow fishers and amazing food. Great variety and everything we had was fantastic.
Cowboy was our fishing guide. Unreal quide! Knows his stuff and gets you the fish. Everyone was having slow days but he was ready to grind and work it to figure out what would work and we came back with great hauls every day!

I will start off by saying what an AMAZING experience. Our trip was for three days and by the end I couldn’t believe it had already been three days. The fishing was some of the best I’ve ever experienced and the guide we had was fantastic and friendly. The food they served us was top notch and the rooms we stayed in were nice and clean. They even did house keeping for us each day while we were out on the water. The town of Zeballos is small but the scenery is beautiful!
