(Translated by Google) I was able to do the ERONGO trail at the beginning of June. 7 days on the road with the horse, an excellent guide (Junias) and all the logistics were well taken care of by Heike (with the help of Johannes).
When we arrived at the camp, the coffee with cake, the tents, etc. were ready.
We ate very well and it is fascinating what menu items were cooked on the open fire.
The Vogel family accommodates their customers very professionally and with a lot of heart.
The whole facility is very well maintained and clean.
If you want to experience something unique on horseback, this is the right place for you.

Wir haben sehr gut gegessen und es ist faszinierend welche Menüs auf dem offenen Feuer gekocht wurden.

(Translated by Google) On our trip through Namibia we stopped at the Ranch Gross Okandjou for two nights.
The communication before our arrival as well as then on site was very warm and we felt completely comfortable with our small family. Heike, Alina and Immo are excellent hosts who can only be warmly recommended. Our daughter still speaks today, almost two months later, with beaming eyes about the time with "her" horse Thora.
Thank you for this unforgettable time on our trip.

Die Kommunikation vor unserer Ankunft als auch dann vor Ort war überaus herzlich und wir haben uns mit unserer kleinen Familie rundum wohl gefühlt. (Translated by Google) I was there on the Erongotrail in June 2022 and I am so grateful for what I was able to experience this week!
First of all, the contact in advance was very good and I received a lot of information about the trail, which made me feel well prepared. The reception at the farm was also very warm and I felt right at home. The rooms there are spacious and clean.
The trail was an experience I will definitely not forget. The horses are well trained, fit and well-behaved. Also thanks to the guide Junias I never felt unsafe on the way and we were able to see a lot of animals. After a long ride it was very pleasant, thanks to Heike and Johannes, to come to a camp for coffee and cake in the afternoon. The camping itself there in the wilderness was also something special!
For me there are absolutely no criticisms of my stay on the farm and I can only recommend it! :)

(Translated by Google) Exactly a year ago today I started the journey to Namibia to the Gross Okandjou farm 😀
I booked the Erongo trail and still dream about it today.
The welcome on the farm was warm and familiar. In the afternoon we went straight onto the horse to see whether the chemistry between horse and rider was right. Everything was perfect and we went out for a little ride.
The trail - 7 days without any luxury - was pure madness. This untouched nature, the animals in the wild - an unforgettable experience.
Our guide was and certainly still is a damn good tracker.
The supply in the bush was also impeccable. Every time we arrived at the camp the tents were set up and we had delicious food freshly prepared over the fire.
The entire team at Gross Okandjou deserves huge praise.
Every single person is part of the whole trip :-) (it would be unfair to only mention individual names).
I can recommend it to anyone interested in nature and wildlife in Africa. Who wants to be on the road without any frills and concentrate on the important things in life 😀😀
I would do it again any time!
Dear Gross Okandjou team - stay as you are!!!

Amazing experience. We had a very interesting tour, as well as a wine and whiskey tasting with dinner. The tasting was specially tailored for us even though we arrived only an hour before closing. Prostatius was super friendly and professional. Great wine and whiskey, that we also bought home for a very decent price. Would recommend to everyone visiting Omaruru or nearby.

I was very excited to go and visit a winery in Namibia. The hopes were high for the wine, it was going to be the highlight of my trip! Until we saw the sad, dried up vines, and had a taste of the wines. Nevertheless, the winery has pivoted instead into making whiskey, using elephant dung in the process, and the whiskey is absolutely divine. The food at the restaurant is fantastic, so I do highly recommend going there for the experience. And don’t forget to put a pin on the world map to show that you have been there!

Very interesting place to have a wine tasting. Grapes are now from Stellenbosch but blended here. Excellent service and tour round before the wine tasting. To me the highlight was the whisky smoked in elephant dung. It was absolutely fantastic 👏

Interesting winery in a most unusual place. Unfortunately the vineyards are no more, but you can still taste some nice wines….. and whiskeys as well, but we did not get to that.

This ended up being one of our favorite camps all trip because of how quiet and peaceful it was, we were the only people there for the night. Decent sized spaces, but they are close together, so I could easily see it being a different story with more people. Bathrooms were very clean, and the shower was nice and hot. Water at site for drinking/laundry/cooking, and a good setup for grilling and food prep. If you walk out to the hill with the larger dinosaur tracks, you can sit and watch the sunset and see animals come drink at a small pond in the area. We saw tons of baboons and Kudu.
Taylor Semrau — Google review
The site is in a private field. When you arrive in front of the gate you have to ring and the owner arrives, explaining the history of the footsteps a bit. The campsite is always nearby but you must be equipped for low temperatures if you go in August, the taps are all covered with bags. There are two tracks: one left by a small theropod, the other is more evident and left by a ceratosaurus. The footprints are half of what they actually were because the animal ran on toes. They are not always evident.
Both to see them and to camp you pay little. The services are basic but clean, better than other places seen. There is hot water. The owner opens the gate at 8.00 in the morning. It was very silence and quiet place.
Barbara Grillo — Google review
The host was friendly, informative, told us about the tracks, its origin etc. The walk is a short 400m walk and the prints were interesting. I guess if you expect massive prints you would be dissappointed but taking into context the information about the species, the prints were impressive. Our kids loved it!!
Silke H — Google review
Our second visit to this lovely farm, the owners are friendly and the entrance fee was 30 Nam$ per adult and 10 nam$ per kid. Lovely tracks camping also available.
Herman Du Plessis — Google review
Rather unfriendly welcome "honk your horn" and someone might come. The keeper obviously prefers to speak German. His english is bad. The tracks themselves are holes in the slab. How anybody sees footprints? Somehow worth the n$20 tho.
Wildfire van willigenburg — Google review
The dinosaur tracks are pretty cool - very interesting to learn how they formed and seeing them up close. Was fun looking for the small tracks and finding more and more of them. 🦖

Not very welcoming, and the host was not very friendly and helpful. Camp is alright, but if you're going for the "dinosaur footprints" do not would expect much.

The experience was good overall but the food portions were small, my pork chop was not fresh. We showed up for our game drive 5 minutes before departure but had already been left behind. When we asked the team they lied and said the car had just gone out to get food, but we had seen them in the field and we heard them on the phone telling them to come back for two more people.

From the moment we walked in we were greated by friendly staff.
We were a little early so had a look around and ended up on one of the comfy couches had an ice cold draft or 2. Got our room key and strolled along the pathway..opened the door to the beautiful room. Loved the little snack plate and sparkling wine. It made us feel special. Also loved all the little details. Tea options were amazing but we could have used some milk. We waited a little long for service at dinner and not all that we ordered at breakfast came out correctly but other than that the food was delicious! We would definitely recommend you to our friends and return ourselves.

Went for Sunday Lunch buffet with the family. It was a short drive outside Windhoek and the road although gravel was easily accessible for almost any vehicle. The setting of the restaurant is under one big thatched roof with pack away doors overlooking a large lawn and the Savana Bush veld. Peaceful and serene come to mind as you sit at your table overlooking the lawn watching animals such as warthog and ostrich. Staff are extremely friendly and super helpful. They delight in your enjoyment and are all keen to strike up a conversation. The food for the buffet was really good with ample choice of grilled meats and side dishes. Dessert was also really good.
The service was really good and the drinks cold. I would recommend this place for a special occasion. Gondwana has gotten their recipe down to a T and you won’t be leaving disappointed. A bit pricey yes but in my opinion it is the entire offering that one gets. On this Sunday we were soiled with live music as well which I must say really added to the atmosphere and lended a relaxed vibe to an already great venue

We like the new looks. The rooms are good, the coffee station great, fan and AC and fridge much appreciated, all meals were very good, nice idea about a la carte menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, breakfast buffet with fresh fruit selection great, good coffee station, BUT most of all the extraordinary staff - all of them friendly and professional. Well done!

The stay at the lodge exceeded my expectations and gave me more rest to the end year fatigue which most professions suffers from at the end of the year. The rooms were comfortable and limiting technology is something I absolutely commend the Gondwana team for. Being surrounded by the mountains and birds sounds all day long reminded me of home. The food was amazing with staff members like Linda, Rejoice, Miriam and the rest I can’t remember their names were so welcoming and always full of energy willing to connect with the clients. The game drive was amazing, the tour guide Simon really knew his nature and I learned more than I ever knew about the birds, rhinos, zebras etc. I can safely say it’s one of the most memorable game drives I had thus far.

An absolute stunning experience. Walking in feels like you entered paradise, with the open-style reception and bar area and the green area on the other end, where warthogs, ostriches, springbok and other animals walk about.
Rooms are fantastic. Very clean, spacious and comfortable.
Service was very good and bar prices are reasonable.
I can't recommend enough.
Gergely Fatrai — Google review
Lovely spot. A real treat. The food was delicious and the service great. I do think the buffet price is a bit much... R400 for an adult is a lot... compared to an a la carte meal. One can only eat so much food. But it was tasty.
Daan Viljoen Game Reserve is a picturesque reserve that showcases an array of grazing wildlife and offers sweeping views, making it an ideal location for hiking trails. Birdwatching enthusiasts will be delighted by the diverse bird population in the area. While there aren't many animals due to the harsh dry conditions, visitors can still spot a fair number of them. The park also features clean facilities and friendly staff.
I recently visited Daan Viljoen and had an unforgettable experience. The chalets provided a comfortable stay, and the friendly service, especially from Aaron, added a personal touch to our trip. The restaurant served delicious food, and enjoying drinks by the pool throughout the day was a highlight. The presence of animals wandering around enhanced the bush experience, though visitors should be cautious about baboons. Overall, Daan Viljoen offers a perfect blend of nature, comfort, and excellent service. Highly recommended for a memorable getaway!

Definitely a beautiful place to hike. Path could have been marked a bit clearer. No Day Visitors in the Camping area. Also a bit on the pricey side just to hike. Pay per car and per person.

This is a beautiful stopover. The tar road leading to the reception area is in a good condition as well as the gravel road through the park. The 7 Campsites with private ablution are all very beautiful. The communal Campsites are not as beautiful. The reception area is clean and beautiful. Downside is the guard on night duty at the gate twice asked for Sweets and cool drink. Normally we give without anyone asking, but this was a bit awkward for us that someone will asked something like that even before he greeted is.
Dirk Coetzee — Google review
We did the detour drive just for fun very few animals but it looks like there was a veld fire so that is understandable the route is 4X2 friendly as long as its a high rider i loved everyminute and we saw some animals i think you might see more at dawn and dusk when its cooler and the animals start roaming. Very nice experience will be back for spring or autumn when the veld recovered from the fire fully.

Loved the place. The food was great too, while we were eating the manger of the place came to check on us, which was very nice and thought ful. All the staff was friendly from the gard at the entrance gate to the people at the kiosk. The game drive was filled with amazing views of the animals and Windhoek in the far background (only 4×4 though). There is a nice 1.5km hike next to the main offices which is what we first did.

Beautiful lodge just outside Windhoek. I hadn’t been here since 2 years ago for a wedding and I was pleasantly surprised with the changes around the Bona restaurant. We've booked a 12 days guided safari with Lark. Claire has been amazing throughout the process. She took into account our preferences, and created a tailored plan. The whole trip felt so relaxing as everything was well organised but with flexibility to add any activity if we wanted to. Our guide Abel was great and taught us a lot about Namibia's history, culture and wildlife. We would definitely recommend Lark to anyone who wants to discover Namibia.

I read the reviews and expected a quality experience, but was surprised to get so much more. Petrus was an exceptional professional and very knowledgeable guide. I asked lots of questions during the tour, and he was always willing to respond and expand my awareness of the city and it's history. He was a very safe driver, while also staying engaged in the conversation and pausing when appropriate so that I could take pictures or ask a clarifying question. He also was very helpful in locating an item that I was really excited about acquiring before returning to Tanzania. Based on Petrus' expert guidance, the next morning I walked all over the city, revisiting some of the places we had driven by quickly because I wanted more time to explore. In addition, I went back to actually visit the exhibits in the Independence Museum, and found then to be quite compelling. I absolutely recommend this tour to help you get acclimated in Windhoek, and develop a thirst to learn even more history about the city and it's people. Thank you sooooo much Petrus🌞

TransNamib Museum is a small yet intriguing museum in Windhoek, Namibia that showcases the country's railway history. Visitors can explore several rooms filled with various railway artifacts from the past few decades, each dedicated to a specific aspect of the railways. The museum also features old trains outside that add to its charm. It houses many important artifacts related to Namibian railways and offers a quick and affordable tour highlighting their history.
Lots of history and important artefacts from the Namibian railway are kept here. Dixon opened the museum for me at the weekend, which I was very grateful for, and even drove me to the ATM and back to my accommodation in Windhoek afterwards.

We arrived at the museum and found the gate closed initially, however after a few minutes we found a man who let us in the museum and gave us a brief talk as to how the museum came to be and what sort of items we'd see in the building! Thank you Dixon for being such a fantastic guide and even showing us the small shop in the museum as well, good to see that this museum is still active and there's a lot of preserved and historically significant items here.

Dixon specially came to open the museum for us.! He is passionate about the railway history and this museum. He went with us on a trip down memory lane. It a precious collection of various railway memorabilia of a almost forgotten era. It was a very memorable and special experience. Thank you Dixon for going above and beyond your duty, allowing us to view, discuss and remember. Closed early today. But outside there's enough to see as well.
T den Braber — Google review
By far the most interesting museum in Windhoek. If you're into trains then this place is absolutely the place to visit. It's a relatively small museum comprising of several rooms containing many railway artifacts from the last several decades. Each room is dedicated to a specific aspect of the railways. Outside the museum are several old trains that are also of interest.

Great ancient trains on display. Opening hours are between 8 am and 5 pm and its not open over the weekend. Often used for wedding photo shoots.
St Mary's Catholic Cathedral Church is conveniently situated in the heart of town and can be easily reached via a nearby taxi rank and mall. This makes it ideal for non-native visitors seeking to participate in an English mass, which takes place at 10:40 am. The cathedral itself exudes beauty and tranquility, with its open side chapels providing a peaceful space for prayer. Additionally, the sermon delivered today was highly commendable.
Centrally located in town and easily accessible as it is a few 100 metres from a taxi rank and mall (Wernhill) Great for non-native visitors who want to attend English mass as mass in English is at 1040am 😅

Very convenient place for prayers for people in Windhoek city
It was a blast from the past to step into a Woolies as in UK Woolworth have shut down; Woolworth in Luton, England hired me when I could legally work at age 14 for 6 hours; I took care of the Gardening section every Saturday until I turned 18 and could work full day Saturdays when I moved to a shoe store!!
Whilst staff were not always available to answer questions at this location, I found what I needed with ease and was happy to purchase and exit with glee!!

We enjoyed our stay. Staff is very friendly and helpfull. Entrance and reception creates a awesome blissful impression. Decor in the rooms and beautiful and tasteful. Rooms are clean and neat. Sparkling swimming pool is the best attraction. Breakfast was tasteful and wide variety. However, an outside braai would have been a bonus.

Great Mall. Many shops. Lots of traffic especially during month end. Parking is a bit expensive. I think there is under advertisement of free parking when you spend a certain amount of money in certain shops. For example I know pick n pay has something like this, where you scan your till slip at the parking ticket machine.
Stally Ntomwa — Google review
Well, I remember
I was at wirnhill with my best friend. And we had so much fun. Seem like it upgrading stores and it's a super - clean - safe mall. KFC was our destination, perhaps you like Hungry Lion, it is opposite Pick n Pay.!

In the closing days of each month, bustling shops create a vibrant scene. The balcony to the ground floor teems with eager buyers and passersby, adding a dynamic charm. It's a delightful sight, especially since the shops you seek are conveniently nestled within.

It loses one star because it's impossible to connect to the free wifi, I tried several times but zero luck so had to use the individual stores that offer them. Other than that a great mall to get all your shopping done.
Craig Lock — Google review
Not one of my favorite malls to go to, especially the old building. Way too many people walking in the parking and across the street, with numerous violent taxi drivers making you feel very unsafe. There is a horrible smell of a drain that is leaking that is unbearable. On top of everything they charge you 6 NAD parking even if you just drop someone, which I think is a bit unreasonable. I won't recommend this shopping mall.
Bernadette Freyer-Swartz — Google review
Wernhill Park has most stores that i go to and plus it's close by my house. It's very convenient and the worker's are kind. They should just work on the street kids on the bus stops sides exit because we don't feel safe at all.

Mall is always clean, security administration very helpful and assistant toward direction, and protection is very much on point.

Wernhil Shopping Mall is literally just the 7th heaven on Earth. There is easily accessible parking on both the first and second floor, but there's a drawback, YOU HAVE TO PAY! That's not it, for simple transportation between the floors, the mall has an elevator, escalator and a flight of stairs.
katrina shimpanda — Google review
The heart of shopping experience, I love the update added shops to the mall, great building plan, not confusing, with the hundreds of customers it receives, I'm impressed it's very clean, the restrooms are clean, cleaners are very friendly most of the times, thumbs up to the management of the mall, but please bring us a cinema, or is there?

Lovely shopping experience with all you will ever need. Located right in the city.
Angela Lebu — Google review
Wernhil Shopping Center stole my heart with its dazzling variety of shops! From trendy boutiques packed with Namibian designers to familiar South African brands, I found everything I needed and more. The gleamingly clean space with its modern architecture felt airy and inviting, and the competitive pricing was a pleasant surprise - I even scored some deals on international labels that rivaled South African bargains. But what truly elevates Wernhil is the atmosphere. The friendly staff made every interaction a delight, and the aroma of delicious food wafting from the bustling food court was irresistible. Whether you're a fashionista on a mission or a family seeking fun, Wernhil Shopping Center is a must-visit in Windhoek. Trust me, your wallet and your senses will thank you!

This is the 3rd biggest shopping malls in Windhoek and it is located in the city center, easily accessible. They sell all different types of products such as food, fruits, clothes, electronics and so forth. This mall is very clean but since its in the city center it tend to be a bit crowded, especially month end you should be prepared to be in long queues. There are parkings and also a taxi rank.
A shocking neglect of a fine building and grounds. Not a healthy way to look after one's cultural national heritage.
Huge amounts of public money was made available to erect the absurdly post-modern architecture building of the 'new' so-called Independence Museum one block further south while demonstrating no independence from the fads of our time. Embarrassing to common sense.

Nice museum about Namibia’s history. Modern and beautiful building and rooms given to Namibia by North Korea and inaugurated in 2014. Free entrance and nice view from the top. There’s a restaurant on the top, but I didn’t try it. It’s not that big, so you can visit it in around one hour. It’s worthy a visit while in Windhoek.

THE WORST MUSEUM EVER
This is not a real museum, no facts are displayed nor are they correct, pictures are taken completely out of context.
This whole place was build and funded by north Korean party. The ideology of dictatorship is clearly expressed in the whole concept of the museum. Anyway, it is an interesting concept and could be used as a bad example. Propaganda at its finest.

It is a new museum with limited access to history, mostly colonial related. Modestly maintained.

If You love diorama's the place to go. The museum could need some refurbishment, seems it has been stuck in its pedagogical and aesthetic approach 50 years ago. Nevertheless worth a visit as it collects and displays very interesting artefacts etc. and people their really seem to care about the Namibian heritage.
Zoo Park, located in Windhoek, is a green area within the city that features a pond, playground and obelisk dedicated to German colonial history. It's an ideal spot for relaxation and taking a break from daily routines. We highly recommend everyone in Windhoek to make time for visiting Zoo Park.
Zoo park is fast becoming what it once was, green. City also started installing cool high tables and chairs, pretty cool addition to the benches. If only they'd bring back the water feature, now that'd be awesome.

The Zoo Park in Windhoek is a delightful oasis that offers a tranquil escape within the bustling city. This urban sanctuary provides a welcome respite, allowing visitors to connect with nature and unwind amidst greenery. From the moment you step into the park, the serene atmosphere and well-maintained surroundings create an immediate sense of calm.
The diversity of flora in the Zoo Park is impressive, showcasing a variety of indigenous plants that reflect the region's natural beauty. The well-designed pathways invite leisurely strolls, and the seating areas provide perfect spots to relax or enjoy a picnic.
While the park primarily focuses on providing a green retreat, some visitors might hope for more interactive elements or animal exhibits. However, it's important to remember that the emphasis here is on tranquility and a connection with nature.
The Zoo Park's central location makes it easily accessible for both residents and tourists. It's a wonderful place to spend a quiet afternoon, especially for those seeking a break from the urban buzz. Although it might not offer the features of a traditional zoo, the Zoo Park is a charming slice of green in the heart of Windhoek, perfect for a peaceful escape.

It's a beautiful quite place in the heart of Windhoek. With restaurants and coffee shops. Though it has lost some of its beautiful in the past year, hope they bring back the stream of flowing water. The children s playground isn't what it used to be back a few years ago but it's enough for kids to play in the sand and monkey bars.

The Avani Windhoek Hotel & Casino is an upscale establishment that offers luxurious rooms and suites. Guests can enjoy a variety of amenities, including a casino, spa, and rooftop pool. The hotel staff are accommodating and willing to fulfill special requests. Despite breakfast closing at 10am during Ramadan, the hotel provided late breakfast for their guests which was appreciated. The hotel also freely provided extra bottles of water upon request, demonstrating their commitment to guest comfort.
Beautiful, cozy, clean. They are willing to accommodate your special requests. Breakfast closes by 10am but they still provided me with special breakfast at 6pm cos it's Ramadan. This i appreciate. I requested to buy more bottles of water aside the complimentary bottles and it was also given for free...these little things do count...it's not about the cost but rather the willingness to go extra mile to make your stay comfortable and memorable.
But there are no bedside charging points...work on those...Otherwise, lovely place to be..keep it up!!!

Negatives
Terrible to none existent room service. I stayed in 403 and on the two nights I tried to order room service via reception and they kept saying they will call me. So I never got room service.
Tried to have a bath and the water was strange colour. Perhaps it is normal but an explanation should have been given in advance.
Overall, I was not impressed. I have stayed at the Zambian Avani and it is much better. If in Windhoek, better stay at Protea Hotel.

The rooms were fine except our did not have a working TV but to be fair we came for early check-in and we were told that the available room had a inoperable TV and that we could wait until another room would get free but since we had a lot of baggages and we were tired we took that room. 2 out of 3 restaurants in that hotel were not open that day and the one that was available unfortunately was out of a lot of things which made us have to choose our second choices mainly. For me that is a absolute no-go. When you are a big hotel like that and have a certain image you should have everything available on the menu. Of course it is nice it is in the city center and everything important and visit worthy within Windhoek can easily be reached by foot.

Avani hotel in Windhoek is a jewel to behold.
The hotel is clean, comfortable and the staff are very friendly - the centrepiece of Avani is the stratos bar and restaurant, which has uninterrupted 180 degree views over Windhoek and is the best location to watch the sun set in Windhoek.
The staff at Stratos are some of the most friendly and welcoming staff I have had the pleasure to meet during my travels, making every effort humanly possible to accommodate my requests.

This ppl never pick up phone. For them to give room with not working shower and leaking toilet is okay. And u pay like 100$ + by night. Rooms are over used, so u feels like it’s 1-2 stars hotel (but Hilton on the next side on road even worse 🤷♀️). Location is good.. but there’s toooo much poor and dirty ppl who will annoying u. They will ask about money from ur first step out from the hotel. Security don’t care, they just prevent for this ppl inside. Police also don’t care. If to talk about lauge/cafe first floor - is nice place (just little overpriced) to have breakfast.

If you didn't manage to get souvenirs and memorabilia from the different pockets of places during your visit, this craft store houses different craft items from all over the country. Of course a mark up is added, as I noticed some items bought directly from the different tribes, areas etc. are slightly pricier here. There are also a few stand alone mini boutique shops and a restaurant. The place is quite dense with different items so you ready need to be able to take your time, it was also slight packed during my visit.

The Namibia Craft Centre is a great place to find souvenirs and gifts for your loved ones back home. It is located in the heart of Windhoek, making it very easy to find and they offer safe off-street parking, which is a huge convenience in a bustling city. One of the standout features is the massive variety of items they have available. Whether you're on a budget or looking to splurge, you'll find something here. From beautiful handmade crafts to superb artworks, the range of products is impressive. Another major plus was that they accepted Visa cards (not sure about the other card providers) as payment during my visit. This convenience definitely added to the overall positive experience. There is also an on-site café, which is perfect for a quick coffee break or grabbing something light to eat. To top it all off, the staff were very friendly and helpful as well. Overall, I had a great experience at the Namibia Craft Centre and would definitely recommend it to others. It is a must-visit location if you are looking for gifts in Windhoek to take home.

German Architecture, the zone that is located the Christuskirche is nice except there are vagabonds asking for money and they not allow enjoy the walk through the streets of Windhoek’s town, even after have them some money they want more or take you to the supermarket to buy food for them, they are very young but looks like they don’t want to work.

The Independence Museum is a showcase of local resistance to colonialism situated within socialist-realist architecture. Admission is free and visitors begin their journey with a see-through elevator ride to the first floor, followed by a self-guided tour through displays of statues, artifacts, clothing and artwork. The top floors offer stunning views of the city at night, along with a restaurant for refreshments. An in-house guide can provide further insight into the exhibits and enhance visitors' experience.
If you want to learning more about our history and the struggles to independence . Please do visit this place. Even without a tour guide you will get know more about the history of the Namibian people.
Perfect design and art. All so realistic

This is a great place to learn about the Namibian colonial struggle and journey to independence. Even without a tour guide, you will get know more about the history of the Namibian people. And there's a restaurant inside on the fourth floor too! Fun fact: the museum was built by the North Korean government and gifted to the Namibian government.

The National Independence Museum in Namibia is an essential stop for anyone interested in delving deep into the country’s rich history and the journey towards independence. From its modest exterior, the museum unfolds into a treasure trove of artifacts, documents, and interactive exhibits that paint a vivid picture of Namibia’s struggle for freedom and its post-independence development.
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by knowledgeable staff who provide insightful introductions to the exhibits and are eager to answer any questions. The museum’s layout is intuitive, guiding guests through chronological displays that cover key events leading up to Namibia’s independence in 1990.
The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, showcasing the resilience and determination of the Namibian people in their quest for self-determination. From poignant photographs capturing pivotal moments in history to personal testimonies from freedom fighters, each display offers a compelling narrative that educates and inspires.
One highlight is the replica of the United Nations Security Council chamber, where visitors can learn about the international efforts to end apartheid in Namibia. Another standout feature is the section dedicated to post-independence development, which provides insight into the challenges and successes of building a new nation.
Interactive elements, such as multimedia presentations and touch-screen displays, engage visitors of all ages and learning styles, making the museum experience both informative and enjoyable. Additionally, the museum regularly hosts events, lectures, and temporary exhibitions that further enrich the visitor experience.
Overall, the National Independence Museum is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of Namibia’s past, present, and future. It serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Namibian people and their unwavering commitment to freedom and progress.

Quality of the museum is equal to those PowerPoint-presentations you had to give in history class about a topic you weren't even remotely interested in. So vain attempts were made to cover up the lack of any useful information with a horrendous use of martial paintings and random exhibition items with no coherent information given at all. You are better off reading Namibia wikipedia article...
This whole building was and still is such a waste of precious namibian national budget.

I recently visited the Independence Museum in Windhoek and had an overall good experience. It's incredibly easy to find, and its proximity to other attractions like the Christuskirche is a definite plus. While I didn't explore the exhibits, I highly recommend going up to the restaurant. With just a drink purchase, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Windhoek and capture some stunning photos. Although I can't comment on the exhibits, the views of Windhoek alone makes this a must visit attraction.

I loved the experience of the museum. Entrance is of course free.
The journey of the museum starts of with you having to take the see through elevators (might not be a pleasant ride for those with fear of heights) to the first floor.
the walk through the museum is self guided and there is a lot of statues, artifacts, clothes, etc. in the museum for display as well as incredible artwork.
to top it all of there is a restaurant on the last floors visitable, where you get to see the view of the city. the view is absolutely amazing at night

Very remarkable building but only one-sided historical events on display.. other older museums surrounding this one has been closed or are being used as different administrative offices.. rewriting history is not always entirely factual.. The view of Windhoek from the restaurant is breathtakingly beautiful..

A brilliant place to visit! I learnt a lot about Namibia's history. Extremely interesting! If you treat yourself to a nice coffee you can take some spectacular photos of Windhoek.

The museum illustrates the narrative of Namibia during the colonial era, the struggles for liberation, and life after independence. It is free to visit this museum and it was great navigating from one floor to another. The panorama chamber was absolutely exquisite. On top of the building, there's a restaurant with a great view of the city where you can take splendid photos of Windhoek's metropolis.

It is an amazing, very educational and informative and a must visit place if one finds themselves in Windhoek.
Very well maintained, preserving the history of Namibian people and telling the mountains they had to climb to get to where they are today. And one doesn't have to pay a cent 😀

To begin, there is an elevator which brings you to your desired floor. It was great at first, tidy restaurant, fantastic views and I began capturing photos from the balcony only to be told by an employee photos are not allowed. To my disappointment, I had to obey her instruction and hesitantly put my camera away. Their no photo policy confuses me as the Independence Memorial Museum has among the most spectacular views from the top. Wouldn’t you want guests to capture images to promote the business place?🙁 If you don’t want pictures taken, at least explain the reason for guests to understand. If it were my place, I would want people taking pictures, then post on Google maps or any other platform to encourage more people to visit. But no. Aside from this, it is an attractive dining destination.

Nice to see museum in good condition and people look after the history. Nice and clean. Enjoy the beer on top floor with incredible view.
Yuriy Shyrobokov — Google review
The Namibian Independence Memorial Museum presents a narrow history of Namibia, focused on the brutality of colonial rule and the triumph of anticolonial resistance via the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO), its military wing, and its first president, Sam Nujoma. As such, the museum reflects recurring state-sponsored presentations of history in Namibia—a form of historical production that Terrence Ranger, in his reflections on early twenty-first-century Zimbabwe, dubbed “patriotic history” (“Nationalist Historiography, Patriotic History and the History of the Nation: The Struggle over the Past in Zimbabwe,” Journal of Southern African Studies 30, no. 2 [June 2004]: 215–234). Here we draw attention to the particular form that patriotic history has taken at the Namibian Independence Memorial Museum, with its exceptionally decontextualized and melodramatic presentation of the Namibian past.

Maerua Mall is a spacious shopping complex consisting of various retail stores offering clothing and electronic items. Additionally, it has a cinema, food court, and play area for children making it an ideal one-stop-shop for all your requirements as a traveler. The mall is neither too big nor too small; hence finding the merchandise you need is not difficult. The Checkers store in the mall provides excellent services, and Foodlovers market cafe serves delicious breakfast options.
Lots of stores ..it had extended with lots of Restaurants

The Maerua Mall offers a wide variety of shops catering to various tastes and preferences, and it also features an indoor kids' play park, making it a great destination for families looking to entertain their little ones. I found the mall's layout to be a bit confusing. Navigating from one end to the other felt like strange, and it took me a while to get my bearings. Another downside was the numerous flickering ceiling lights throughout the mall. It created a bit of an unpleasant atmosphere. Overall, Maerua Mall is a good option for shopping if it's your closest mall and you need access to a variety of shops.

Why can't they fix the lights in the mall, those LED strip lights are terrible. Please replace it!! Other than the lights, decent variety of shops, and parking is safe and sometimes free which is convenient.

Nothing wrong with the shops but the mall itself needs some serious maintenance to get to the standard of say Grove Mall. Payment machines for parking is a mess every time - need to show up with a bag of 50 coins hoping there's five that may work and not get spit out by the machine. Same with notes. Booms often don't work. Half of the bathroom taps / hand dryers don't work.

One of Windhoek's three big malls, it has most of the usual clothing, retail, fresh produce, tech, furniture, a cinema, games arena, speciality goods to a wide variety of fast food outlets, coffee shops and restaurants. There's ample parking. Chances are if you can't find what you're looking for at the other two malls, you'll find it here.

This review was written in November 2023, for Maerua Mall. In order to be fair this is not my favorite shopping mall, however it may be the perfect mail for another shopper.
I actually spent very little time looking around this mall. The main purpose of my visit to this Mall was grocery shopping.
Normally, there would be a mention of restaurants, bathrooms or other areas in a shopping mall. Prior to departing Windhoek, Namibia I will make a follow up visit to this mark & provide a detailed review.

The second largest shopping mall in Windhoek, offers almost everything from food, clothes and entertainment, have the best restaurants I have ever seen with great deal of menu which are also affordable. There is a cinema with latest movies one can enjoy and they always have a half price every Tuesday. The Avis Dam Nature Reserve, situated in Namibia's Windhoek district, features an extensive grassy reserve providing a multitude of hiking and mountain biking trails. The area is home to a diverse range of bird species that can be observed while exploring the park's pathways. Completed in 1933, the Avis Dam is one of the smallest reservoirs in Namibia with a capacity of approximately 2.4 million m³.

The hike was good, however, the security guard who was the only person upon our arrival until we left stole our secured battery box from the company bakkie. When confronted he denied it. Pathetic that people who are supposed to take care of our cars are the ones who steal.
Does anyone know the security company that is in charge of the Avis Dam?

The Avis dam is a dam in Namibia, on the eastern edge of the Windhoek district called Avis. The Avis dam was completed in 1933. Its reservoir has a capacity of about 2.4 million m³, making the Avis Reservoir one of the smallest reservoirs in Namibia.
The Avis Dam is fed by two rivers and drained by the Klein-Windhoek river. It is located in a popular recreational area of the Erosberge. It was originally designed to serve as a sustainable drinking water reservoir for Windhoek.

Get back into nature without even leaving town! Very basic, and there are dangers (wild animals are still present and being close to town means that you might get mugged if you visit at an odd hour) but with the security guards present during the day, you are safe to wander around. Dogs and horses are also spotted on a daily basis!

Who thinks up these architecture masterpieces. Not a single (safe) high vehicle parking spot. Parking is 10 for 4 hours, why bother !!!! You cut off the new open parking with pointless height restrictions and barriers. You limit your clientele for what reason exactly? You can't even get in with a land rover with a roof tent !!! Let alone something a bit more special.

The Grove Mall of Namibia is a great place to shop and spend some time at. With a vast variety of shops catering to all tastes and needs, from fashionable boutiques to stores where you can stock up on your daily groceries, it's a complete shopping destination. There is also a large food court with a variety of restaurants to choose from as well as a cinema if you are looking to unwind a bit. The mall is well-designed and easy to navigate, so you won't get lost or waste time looking for the store you need. For those not familiar with Namibian regulations, it's worth noting that there are some liquor stores, but be aware that government regulations restrict liquor sales until 13:00 on Saturdays and prohibit sales entirely on Sundays. Mall management needs to improve or increase security in the mall itself, to enforce rules properly.
On weekends there are young people running around screaming and throwing stuff at each other. People are walking and smoking in the mall when there are signs that state that it is prohibited.
Parking lots turns into hangouts where people drink and race and rev their cars.

There was black Friday sales ongoing but the starting price for t-shirts was N$99.
I got a sneakers for N$200 even though it was on reduced to clear. Some shops have buy 2, get 2 free items.

What an experience. Great accommodation in the mountains at Riemvasmaak. Four pools, hot, medium, warm and cold, set in an amazing environment. No times for pools, ooen 24hrs. Absolute must visit when in the area. Hiking routes with Bushman paintings.

Loved the Hot Springs ❤️ We took the scenic route (we recommend a four wheel drive) and the landscape is absolutely stunning. Both the pools were gorgeous, we arrived very early in the morning and had the place pretty much all to ourselves.... there is a small entrance fee that you have to pay and toilets for your convenience. The final stretch down the gorge to the pools was abit scary but doable.

Real 4x4 route with dry rivers and mountain uphills. The hotsprings need a bit of tlc, some damage after heavy rains. A must see if you in the area.
Elfrieda Schroder — Google review
The admission fee of R70.00 is a bit much, if you consider the state of the facilities, and with NO water at the toilets.
The nature is maybe a good enough reason to visit the place, just make sure that your vehicle has at least 120mm ground clearance. It is the place to enjoy with your 4X4!
Nico Bronkhorst — Google review
Excellent place to visit if you are looking for a hidden gem, there are chalets available as well to book if you would like to stay off the gird for a little while longer. The hot spring is very well maintained. A 4×4 is the recommended vehicle but the road is maintained for most commercial cars to access.

We stayed here for two nights in one of the cabins. You need to book via a phone call to their office and you can only get there with a 4x4/ high clearance vehicle. They are dog friendly on arrangement.
The 4 sleeper cabin has two bedrooms and one bathroom. You need to walk through the first bedroom to get to the second one and the only bathroom is attached to the first bedroom. So, this made it a bit uncomfortable for two couples. In future, we would rather book out the 8 sleeper which comprises two 4 sleeper cabins next to each other. The tiny kitchen is well stocked with necessary utensils, a microwave, kettle, and a hotplate. The cabins have electricity (loadshedding-dependant) and hot water. Our cabin had a nice fire pit outside with a lapa that was unfortunately built blocking the view. The unit was neat and clean but the bathroom desperately needed a deep clean.
The cabins are walking distance from the hot springs, which are absolutely amazing and tranquil. One out of the three pools is hot and the other two are lukewarm. The pools are regularly cleaned by the staff. The staff members are friendly and helpful. Keep an eye out for the verreaux’s eagles circling above. The stargazing at night is phenomenal.
Unfortunately, on one of the nights a rowdy group camped there and they took up all the space in the pools, played loud music through the night, and left empty alcohol bottles and beer caps around the pools. It is unfortunate to share such a spectacular place with inconsiderate individuals.
Carene Mouton — Google review
Secluded and quiet. Beautiful drive to get there. The last km is a bit gnarly, but drivable.
Sprawling area featuring granite cliffs & a natural cascade dropping from a height of 60 meters.
The best time to go is just after a flood, during dry seasons the falls can be very sparse but after major rainfall it is absolutely breathtaking.
Hiking trails may be closed after major flooding but if you can go on the trails it is stunning as well.

Awesome experience to see Augrabies in flood. We stayed at a chalet that was very basic but very neat with a AIRCON. The service at the restaurant is a bit slow but the food is great. The little shop is also well stocked, from ponchos to meat and wine.

We have been to Augrabies Falls National Park many years ago and can recall that it was 'nothing to boast about'. We made a reservation for 17 September 2023 , as we were on our way to the Richtersveld. What a surprise awaited us! Our chalet was spanking clean, well-equipped and provided us with everything we needed. The reception staff was super-friendly and the shop well stocked. Everyone we came across were willing to assist, approachable and professional. This was such an improvement compared to our earlier visit... We consequently spontaneously booked their again for 27 September 2023 on our way back. The Reception staff again were so, so helpful and accommodating. The damage after the last floods was actually quite unfortunate but it didn't stop us from taking some lovely pictures.... Well done, Sanparks and Augrabies Falls staff. You are worthy of this feather in your cap!

What a fantastic experience to finally have visited the place of great noise. Yes, the more rain and heavier the falls, the greater the noise from even a distance away.
I was very impressed with how Sanparks are managing the park. From the first security checkpoint at the main gate, to the visitors center at reception. Everything is clean, neat and well maintained. Friendly staff greet visitors as you walk through. Toilets are in good repair and nice and clean.
There is a curio shop offering a variety if curios and light snacks and drinks. There is also a restaurant, but we only ordered takeout coffee and tea.
The pathways to the falls are well marked and offer a wheelchair friendly option.
The viewing decks are safe and provide beautiful views of the falls and gorge. I hope that the parks board will repair the section closed to the public that was damaged in the recent floods.
A beautiful place to visit and the small fee is worth every penny!

Hot as hell but the experience of a lifetime!
There was quite a queue when we arrived but it moved quickly and efficiently. It's not often that you get to see the falls in all its splendour, it's awesome to see.
The park and facilities are excellent, the walkways allow easy access to the falls. Visit the upper viewing decks first and then the lower decks to cool off in the spray. Prepare yourself to get soaked (don't wear a white shirt 😉🤣)

As an arid national park, this place is super unique. The accomodation options are many and the campsite is really great. There are few self-drive options around the park to take in the scenery and animals. The viewing decks are spectacular and it is a beautiful place to enjoy and relax in. The little shop has all the essentials (ice, wood, snacks etc) and staff are all friendly and helpful. There is a restaurant too which serves a wide range of food options.

The campsite is great. It has all the amenities you need and there is sufficient shaded spots for tents, campers or caravans.
Camp sites is first come first serve basis and a suggestion would be to take a ground sheet with as the sites is all sand.
Walkway and viewing points at the waterfall is safe, well maintained and greatly positioned. There were some walkways damaged during the last flood, but they were closed out properly.
The park provides fuel, gift shop and a restaurant.

The Augrabies Falls is certainly worth a visit if one is traveling through the Orange River area. Very scenic as well as a game park to drive through.

The staff are genuinely lovely - I immediately felt safe and welcomed. The walkways are under repair from the floods, which isn't anyone's fault, and we were still able to get nice photos.
The restaurant was super cool and comfy on an excruciatingly hot day. The bathrooms were also clean and stocked.
It's obvious that everyone working there is passionate about conservation and providing a great place for everyone to connect with nature. I hope our international visitors enjoy it as much as I did!

What a beautiful place, we really enjoyed our stay here ❤️ the views are magnificent and the Dassies were so cute. Accommodation was great with clean spacious rooms and several swimming pools to cool off at the end of your day. Certain parts of the walkways were under repair from the last floods damage. Staff were friendly and a restaurant and shop are available for your convenience.

Beautiful park, so pleased we insisted on making the addition to our trip. The falls rumble, splash, mist and take your breath away. Saw lots of little critters around. Definitely worth the detour when traveling through the region. Accommodation is clean, updated, comfortable, has aircon, all other amenities and is not affected by loadshedding as they have a generator. There are many swimming pools that are well kept, blue and clean. Service is impeccable and the restaurant is great. A must visit.

Last time I was here I gave the falls a five star rating. The water was high the viewing places were all open and the quadruple charges for foreigners irritated me less. This time it’s different. Firstly I wonder what justification there is for over charging foreigners in government run parks in South Africa? To make more money? For whom? Foreigners bring in huge amounts of money across the board in hotels restaurants etc etc already. Why does the government not stimulate their interest in parks instead of penalties based on cost discrimination. So are us foreigners supporting the costs of infrastructure in the parks because the government can’t afford to do so? Let’s see. After two years (plus) a simple chain ladder in the Drakensberg National Park is still not mended, and now I see that after 12 months nothing has been done to repair the wooden walk ways at Augrabies. What is happening to our money? It’s not as if either repair work is complex. It would take a few people with a few tools a few days to fix the issues. What actually is going on ?

Always a winner. We reserved a special room number ahead of time. Upon our arrival, we were overjoyed to learn that the room was, in fact, reserved for us as per the relevant request (room 11). We loved our stay- no complaints whatsoever. The room was clean and tidy - large fridge for all our travel goodies and an excellent aircon to keep us cool in the heat. The staff were super friendly and efficient. They offer a restaurant on premises and a great convenience store , which caters for every convenience you need. Great stay. Highly recommended.

Went to see the falls in the morning. Great choice as it gets hot. But properly hot!
Some walkways have not been repaired since last year's floods, but the views are spectacular.
Must be one of the wonders of the world.
