The Outeniqua Family Market is a small community-driven open market that operates only on Saturday mornings. It offers a peaceful and serene atmosphere for families to spend time together while enjoying the various food stalls, selling snacks, drinks and small meals. The market also has vendors selling souvenirs, and parking is available. What sets this market apart from others is its unique selection of stalls: no two are alike, with mostly food options sprinkled with craft vendors.
Lots of different stalls to go to and buy some fresh fruit, ginger biscuits, cupcakes, plants, back cushions, clothing, jewelry to name a few. The live music was also a treat. Will definitely go back when we in the area again

This is a small open market where the local community gathers to pass time and enjoy time with friends and family. This place has various food stalls that you can buy snack, drinks and small meals. Very calm and peaceful atmosphere. You can bring your kids as well as pets. If you are looking for souvenirs you can find few people who sell them in this market. People are very friendly. Parking is available and almost every stall accept both cash and card payments. This is open only on Saturday morning.

Very nice place to spend a Saturday morning. The food options are amazing with options for the whole family. The only item missing is some cocktails and craft beers. But overall a good experience. And if you visit the Outeniqua farmers market try the burgers you will not regret it.

Great food variety. Large play area for kids. Ample parking. We'll maintained toilets. Live music. And best of all, loaded churros.
Theunis De Klerk — Google review
Very good selection of stalls available. Mostly food with a few craft stalls thrown in between. The best feature about this market is that there is almost no stall that is duplicating another like we all are used to at other flea markets. All and all a great market for the whole family to enjoy.
Hendrik Combrinck — Google review
Nice outdoor open market. Lots of food options and non-alcoholic drinks. Parking is free. Can get really crowded since it is only once a week on Saturday. You can find 20+ vendors with variety of products. Live music is nice add on. People are friendly. We were not able to find toilets though.

Amazing old-school vibe market . Lot's to be do for the kids, and it's pets friendly. A huge variety of foods and don't forget your traditional koer koffie and condensed milk 😋. Ample creative stalls each unique and lovely. Overall, I would say this market is a must for any tourists to pop in . Friendly vibes, value for money.

Live music, nice and relaxing for a Saturday morning.

On Saturday we decided to take a drive to George whilst visiting family in nearby Oudtshoorn. The @outeniqua_family_market is hard to miss when passing Garden Route Mall.
They have plenty of food and craft vendors as well as live music to keep you entertained. Kids loved the chips on a stick and corn dogs. We shared some currywurst which took us right back to our visit to Germany last December.
I had a cheesy burger from the Burger Bros vendor which was so good. But the highlight had to be the churros, hands down the best churros I have ever had.

Amazing place from fresh fruit and veggies, home crafts lively music and atmosphere
Food stalls that will make you drool

Just a fun place to treat your visiting friends, family and furries to.
Enjoy the arts and crafts market along with the variety of fast foods, fruits, vegetables and biscuits on sale.
You will be treated to a local singer making you wanna whip out your dancing shoes and warm up your vocals.
Shaded seating spots with play parks and fun rides for the young ones.
Ample parking available.

Lovely place to take the family. Just like the traditional markets we had in Cape Town (that changed). I really enjoyed this market and the food was excellent. Play area for the kids is a big bonus to any parent. Payment of some items was our only struggle and we had to pay each time with our card at the information desk, although this is not a train smash at all. Great market.
Arie van Ravenswaay — Google review
Nice place if you just want to get out for some fresh air. Just a pity that dogs are now restricted to certain areas only. Don't expect food to be cheaper (than a restaurant) because it's at a market.
Corne Nunns — Google review
Great place love the atmosphere. Love the nut house and tasted all the different nuts the donuts is the best

My favorite Saturday morning Market in the Garden Route. Fresh produce great meals for a get together with family and friends and the ONLY PLACE to sell this fres Pomegranate juice. A MUST if you have never tried it before. The dog friendly as well as recycling stations and simple and effective seating make for sharing and conducive to meeting locals and many nice people.
Victoria Bay, a little inlet located in the Western Cape of South Africa, is a frequented destination for surfers. It can be found on the Garden Route between George and Wilderness. The beach is renowned for its right-hand reef-like wave that travels over small boulder-shaped rocks for approximately 200 meters.

Panoramic views over peaks & a river valley shaped like Africa, with paraglider launch spots nearby.
Lovely view point, definitely something everyone should do at least once in the garden route !
Very clean around, and just a spectacular view ! Lovely bench for you to sit at as well and enjoy.
Road is dirt to get there but looked after well.
It’s free as well ! They say you can donate to the volunteers who look after it.

It was a very bumpy drive. There is no cost to view the map. However, donations to the maintenance are accepted. Nice view of the Outeniqua mountains and also a nice view of Wilderness Coastline from the paragliding club.
Jason Bailey — Google review
Was a very nice lookout point. We enjoyed the stop and it was clean. The road there is a gravel road for about 4km but is in a good condition.
Wilhelm Coetzee — Google review
Good high-elevation point of view. You can have a wonderful view of wilderness beach and river. This is one of the important tourist attractions if you pass on N2 highway in this area of garden route.
Adel Rumaih — Google review
Fantastic lookout over Garden Route. Go tandem paragliding with Wallendair/Flytime when conditions allow.
During good days you’ll see 100s of km down garden route and might spot whales jumping in the sea.
Whenever paragliders are up, conditions are probably good for a tandem. The tandem coaches there are among the best pilots in South Africa. True highlight on the route. You’ll be safe, and the instructors will set you up. The experience itself will last c. 10 minutes, depending on conditions, but it’ll feel like an eternity. In best conditions, you’ll land up, otherwise you’ll fly along the highway down to the beach.
I’ve been with Flytime and had a great time during my stay. Can only recommend
Alexander M. — Google review
Cool view point to have a look at if you’re driving past and have some spare time.
Would not recommend going out of your way to look at.
Free (can give a donation to a lady who explains some stuff) and only a couple of minutes needed to view.
Katrin Erb — Google review
The volunteer ladies were so nice to talk to and explained the area and it's history in great detail.
From other people's reviews we thought the road would be in a terrible state, but it isn't that bad. Would recommend that your car has a little bit of ground clearance, but I don't think a 4x4 would be necessary. Don't know how the road would look after rainfall though.
If you have time for a stop, definitely come do it at this viewpoint. You can see the beautiful river and trees down below and when you walk across the road you can get a bird's eye view of the ocean.
Simon? Terblanche — Google review
Breathtaking viewpoint. Free to view. Expected a bit more, but you literally just park your car, walk to the shaded bench where the name board is, and peer over the wooden fence to look at the 'Map of Africa' formed by the land and rivers below. There was however a guide sitting there with her cat, that told us a bit more about this stunning viewpoint, and that we could walk across the road to the other side afterwards, to view the beautiful ocean below. We found huge mushrooms growing there, as well as sheep grazing on the green grass.
Chantál Fourie — Google review
View was breathtaking. Place was easy to find and there was a group of people I think that works for the society who gave us more information of the surrounding of the map of Africa. Further down you find a big open meadow with the view
of the ocean where you would be able to watch the people paragliding down the mountain.
Amy Wang — Google review
Beautiful lookout, great view!
I even liked the other side better facing the sea and the beaches
Aroon Nagersheth — Google review
Beautiful view of the naturally formed map of Africa. Gravel road to get there. But well maintained. Bonus is the paragliding that happens there. Great to watch them take off and land
Riaz Ismail — Google review
Amazing view. A must visit spot. Map of Africa is stunning and just across the road you can see the beautiful view wilderness beach. You might see the sheep grazing over there. It is paragliding launch site also.
I think it's a must visit place if you are on garden route.
Komal Agarwal — Google review
Gorgeous! There’s someone giving you information at the lookout point which is also a very nice touch.
Chane Liebenberg — Google review
Went on a humid and very sunny winter's day. There is a bit of a gravel road drive in and you drive past some informal settlements.
Nearing the end of the road you'll find the Map of Africa and some volunteers explaining the ecosystem movement of the water and how the water interacts with he trees etc.
I would suggest going in the morning or during sun down for a better view as it can get quite foggy and humid. The paragliding option (on the other side of the street) also seemed like a fun option.
One of my favourite BLUE FLAG beaches on the Garden Route. Always clean maned in 2 areas by lifeguards and parking safe. This is a popular beach with locals and visitors alike and there are some lovely homes to stroll around and one of the best kept secrets in the area.
Richard Morris — Google review
Clean and beautiful beach with life guards, restrooms and wide open sands to play or enjoy a stoll. Perfect for my little one who had the time of her life there after visiting three other beaches. The only issue is the lack of parking, space is incredibly small and visitors constantly have to circle the parking lot looking for space.
Mosa Seloane — Google review
Love Lienkies Klip. It has blue flag status with pristine beach and lifeguards during holiday season.
Rosanne Whittle — Google review
Every time we visit Wildernis Beach we are blown away by the beauty. We can take long walks, on a clean and safe beach.
Betsie Kruger — Google review
Why do we love this beach? He is not like any other. There are great sandy beaches in many places in the world, in Thailand, Mauritius, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and 1,000 other places, but nowhere else. It's a big wonderful huge Indian jacuzzi! You don't need to swim here, you just have to go into the water, and it's not far away, and the rolling waves will create an effect that you won't get anywhere else in the world. Try it yourself and you won't regret anything!
Io Lo — Google review
Very beautiful, clean, relaxing beach with Community Safety Officers & life guards on duty. We have opportunity to see many dolphins enjoying themselves at Wilderness Beach on Saturday the 6th of January 2024. The experience was soo wonderful.

One of the cleanest beaches you will ever see. We appreciate the security on the beach and the several life guard swimming areas. Definetily a must for anyone visiting the Garden Route.

Great beach, can have a great time swimming and take a nice walk as well
Johan Steyn — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa, kilometers long and beautifully clean. There are several swimming points where life guards are provided during season, current can be strong but the lifeguards choose the safest spots to swim. Leuntjies Klip is the first beach and it's a favorite of locals and visitors, parking can be tough at certain times of year but arrive early and leave before the sun gets too hot. Not a lot of services on the beach so bring your own refreshments. Leuntjies Klip and the main beach near Salinas restaurant provide bathrooms and showers.
An incredible beach for an early morning walk it goes on forever.

“The Kaaimans River also known as Keerom River, is a river in the Western Cape, South Africa. The mouth of the river lies near Wilderness. Further upriver, the Kaaimans River Gorge is an ideal place for hiking and whitewater kayaking.
The nearest large towns are Mossel Bay and George.
The Kaimaans River was formerly an obstacle for travellers, whose wagons had to wait sometimes for weeks before being able to cross it safely when it ran full of water. It was also nicknamed "Keeromrivier" (Turnabout River) because, faced with the raging waters, some travellers had to turn and try to find another way to reach their destination. Finally this obstacle was overcome when the Seven Passes Road was built by Thomas Charles John Bain.
This river has a tidal estuary at its mouth that was crossed by a bridge, for the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe, the last passenger steam train in Africa that finally ended operation in June 2009”… Wikipedia.
Another wonderful place when you are passing Garden Route. If you are in hurry and driving just give a break here, spend few moments, look at the nature … all of our tiredness will be gone in a second. A truly beautiful and awesome place.

Wilderness National Park is a forest preserve that boasts several lakes and a waterfall. Its offerings include campgrounds, hiking trails, boating, and more. The Kingfisher hike is highly recommended for families with younger children as it offers an exciting adventure to add to their bucket list. Visitors can also enjoy a pontoon crossing during their stay. The park has friendly and helpful staff who ensure visitors have an enjoyable experience while feeling safe throughout the area.
Lovely office with super friendly and helpful staff. Really impressed but sanparks never disappoints!

Felt very safe everywhere too!

Camped here for an evening while on the Nuts and Bolts rally. The campsites were well demarcated, and had plenty of space for cars and several tents.
The location is beautiful right on a river, and the bathrooms were nice and clean despite being quite small for the size of the campsites)

The Kingfisher hike is really worth it. Even with smaller kids it is an adventure to add to your bucket list. Our two kids (7 and 4) completed the hike to the waterfall and back. The pontoon crossing a firm favourite of their holiday in the garden route.

Epic walk to the waterfall from Ebb and Flow. 8km round trip on a board walk, with a swim in the waterfall and pools below. Waterfall swimming not advised for less abled people as there is rock scrambling to get in and out of the water

What a pleasant experience at Garden Route National Park - Ebb and Flow. It is such a beautiful area! The accommodation was superb! Aircon, fireplace, Wheelchair friendly with an entire bathroom equipped for wheelchairs. The house had stylish decor and all you need in the kitchen. Everything was clean and in excellent working order. The King Fisher trail was fantastic to walk! Can't wait to visit the park again.

For hikers and canoers. Whether the R190 for foreign visitors is worth it is your call. I enjoyed the walk through indigenous woods
youtube watcher — Google review
The waterfall area is beautiful, with many large pools perfect for swimming in the heat!
The hike concludes with quite a lengthily boardwalk in the trees which is great for spotting birds at eye level and generally getting a nice viewpoint down to the river.
The “hike” (more of a walk really) was really easy and I would recommend it to people of all ages and abilities.
The only reason it got 4/5 stars is the sheer amount of litter around the waterfall. (More than I could carry back in my small hiking bag)
Austen Urry — Google review
Gorgeous hiking trails, canoeing trips and camping sites. Hiking trails are for all fitness levels. Picnic spots are also available along your route so pack some snacks and just enjoy nature! 😃
There is a small fee to enter - R52 for South African residents.

Did the Kingfisher trail while camping at Ebb and Flow. It's an awesome forest hike. Beautiful area.
The walk to the point is pleasant and we went at low tide. Awesome for the kids. I did find one rock pool to enjoy some snorkelling, plenty of sea life. But you need to go when the water level is a bit higher to enjoy all the rock pools. Awesome little gem, will definitely go back.

Long awaited return to the point. It was a perfect spot to head out to for the day. The tides worked in our favour. Lots of creatures were about. And the pools varied in size and warmth. Utterly fabulous and worth the walk. Pack light but cleverly, and get reef shoes to make the rocks easier.
Jen Colloty — Google review
Our most favourite place in the world. Stunning beach. Quite a substantial walk but well worth it. Can only be accessed at low tide. Toilet at the parking area. Not many parking spots. Bring water. No dogs allowed due to endangered black oyster catcher breeding pairs.

Beautiful walk flat ,but wear shoes
** Only go at low tide **
4,3km to the point around and back
It changed since a storm in 2023 water subsided and many more sharp rocks exposed

Gericke's Point is a natural rocky outcrop at the end of Swartvlei Beach, located in Sedgefield along South Africa's Garden Route, rivalling similar natural points I've visited in Mozambique like Ponta do Ouro and Tofo. It is a sight to behold and about a 2km walk from the parking area at Swartvlei Beach. At it's foot are incredible rock pools, just mind the tide if snorkelling. A must visit if you're in the area!
Brent Currin — Google review
The hike to Gericke's point at low tide allows you to see Octopus 🐙 star fish, oyster catcher birds and experience nature in her best form
Kevin Barnes — Google review
Lovely walk to the point at low tide to snorkel in the many rock pools. Clean beach, loads of sea life. Don't get stuck out there when tide comes in though!
Vivienne Holtzhausen — Google review
Awesome 👌 place. Just a bit sad to see people coming there to catch octopus with the family coming to enjoy nature. Time your visit with low tide

Lovely experience, do check the schedule (google)for low tide when you go. 5km walk, we went around, shoes are recommended for the climb on pointy rocks

Beautiful setting.
One needs to be up to speed with the tides, as it would be very difficult to visit at high-tide
Jan Nel — Google review
Great walk to the point with interesting rock formations. Lots of little pools with marine life along the way, but the best are at the point. Go at low tide to enjoy them without waves crashing into you, and bring a snorkel. The view from the top of the point is excellent. It takes about 20min to track the point from the car park.

Very good Farmers market. There are a large number of stalls. They sell fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, meat, jams, sauces, milk, cheese and other milk's products, natural cosmetics, a lot of cooked local food stalls, and others. There are a lot of sitting tables where you can sit, relax, and enjoy trying a large selection of local food. It is good to support local individuals.
This market has plenty of car parking. It is usually very crowded on Saturday morning (it is open on Saturday morning only 8:00AM-12:00 noon, and is closed all other times).
By short, it is the largest and the most-visited farmers market in the Garden Route area.
Adel Rumaih — Google review
Such an incredible market! Honestly you can practically do all your grocery shopping at this place for the week. The market is well organized and vendors serve only the freshest fruit and vegetables, and meat and cakes and breads, fudge and jams - the options are so vast that I felt like a kid in a candy store without a budget! Don’t even get me started with the food options!
This is a MUST visit!!!

Loved this place. Although the weather was cold and rainy, the food was very nice and the markets were really interesting. I imagine in nice weather, parking would be troublesome and congested getting in and out. Market closes at 12 - go and find the "Prince of Tarts."

Fantastic famers market. We were lucky enough to be in the area on a Saturday and were able to visit. Open 8am to 12pm Saturday only - we arrived at 830am and it was already busy! Ample parking though. Variety of stalls including baked savory and sweets, cheese, fruit, jams, sandwiches, breads, and nuts. Also there are a couple of coffee stalls. Recommend to come early!

Thoroughly enjoyed visiting this market - the people all very friendly and the produce and food fresh and tasty ( and very reasonable!). I was very happy with my purchases - home-made ginger beer, carrot cake jam, a huge cucumber (for only R15!!) Spring onions and a beautiful artichoke flower. Highly recommend a visit on a Saturday morning. Get there early - the good stuff goes fast!!

Always very crowded, but fresh and delicious food. Range is quite broad - from plant seedlings to pancakes and coffee. Dogs are allowed, on leash, and are provided for with water facilities. Make sure you have lots of time to stand in queues for ages. Many stalls have card facilities, but it's best to bring cash (& lots of it - bring small notes) to speed up the payment.

N2, Sedgefield.
This fresh foods market sells food stuff, vegetables, fruits, cake, plants, fresh juices and so much more. On our family trip we popped in at the market and I bought some lovely olives, olive tea, fresh orange juice and the best Lemon meringue I’ve ever tasted. It was lovely to just browse through all the stalls while listening to live music. 👍

Absolute must see if you're in the area on a saturday. Local vendors, live music, beautiful food and full of smiling idiots like me grinning and wandering around.
The only downside is that you will spend all your money and have to buy a new suitcase to chuck all the hot sauce and kombucha you're trying to take back to the UK.
Really cool community led spot with signs that tell you everything about the stalls AND lots of cute dogs.

Excellent Saturday morning outing. Plenty of things to do, see and eat. Animal friendly to the extent that there's even a dedicated dining area for you and your for baby. The only thing missing is a play area for the kiddies and card facilities. Also for the parking really doesn't cater for normal passenger vehicles, best to take an SUV.

Still one of the best food and home made fresh produce in the Grden Route. This rustic Sat morning venue that closes (Gates locked) at 13h00 is dog friendly on a leash. There is music and plenty of informal seating.

Beautiful farmers market ! High quality fresh produce with good price ! HIGHLY recommended to visit if you are in Sedgefield. Various different food vendors for breakfast options. Love getting us the blueberry cheese cake, cheese (from different stall) and fresh croissants/bread from Il de Pain ! Best time for visiting is getting there as early as possible in the morning. This place is jam-packed and difficult to get parking if you are abit too late, and you'll need to be patient to que in most of the food vendors.

There is a guy who makes and sells wood chopping boards at a very reasonable price. Lots of other nice stalls too.

Very good flea market. This market (with the 2 adjacent large farmers markets), they have a large number of stalls. They sell South-African crafts, hand-made gifts, arts products clothes, leather products, souvenirs, cermics products, fruits, vegetables, flowers, meat, natural cosmetics, natural soaps, a lot of cooked local food stalls, and others. There are a lot of sitting tables where you can sit, relax, and enjoy trying a large selection of local food.
These 3 market have plenty of car parking. It is usually very crowded on Saturday morning (they are open on Saturday morning only 8:00AM-12:00 noon, and are closed all other times).
By short, this market (with the adjacent farmers market {Wild Oats farmers market} are the largest and the most-visited farmers market in the Garden Route area.

Thank you Celia for opening up your beautiful farm to us,to Bloometjie for getting us coffee and our horses ready and to Karen for the awesome ride through the farm.

En route from Hartenbos to Bloemfontein, we stopped here. Good food, limited menu.
It was extremely cold and unfortunately all tables are on the outside. At least we were offered some fleece blankets in an attempt to make us comfortable. Lovely interior and display. Difficult to maneuver caravan in there.

Love this little padstal between Oudtshoorn and De Rust with the inviting boards that announced that they are "Wawyd Oop" and "Save water, drink wine". Buffels Bay is a charming coastal town situated in the Western Cape province of South Africa, approximately 20 km from Knysna. The village is renowned for its picturesque beach that extends to the east, also known as Buffelsbaai. It serves as a popular vacation destination with a small waterfront comprising several shops. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the shoreline, taking in the stunning scenery and soaking up the sun's warmth.
Brenton-on-Sea, a charming seaside resort town located just 15km west of Knysna in the Western Cape province of South Africa, is a must-visit destination. Named after Sir Jahleel Brenton, this idyllic area is renowned for its laid-back atmosphere and stunning coastal views. Visitors can enjoy the sun-drenched shores, observe the endangered Brenton blue butterfly, and witness breathtaking sunsets.
After delivering belongings at the apartment, an individual decided to spend the day in Knysna and visited The Heads, which is situated on a tall cliff above the point where the lagoon flows into the ocean. It provides a vantage point with a short walkway and beautiful vistas of Featherbed Nature Reserve. Regrettably, Featherbed had been impacted by one of several fires that ravaged the area during winter, leaving only charred remains where lush forests once stood.

Thesen Island. Knysna.
My husband and I was on our way back home to Cape Town when we stopped over in Knysna for a few days.
Knysna is stunning but the trip around the lagoon was the cherry on the cake. The views of the mountain and the seas were amazing.

The Featherbed Private Nature Reserve is a lush, limited-access reserve on the Western Head of Knysna. Only accessible via ferry, it is popular with tourists for its stunning scenery and wildlife. Highlights include sightings of the antelope Blue Duiker and Knysna Loerie, as well as plenty of other wild animals.
Brilliant experience, lovely views, great lunch for our group of 15 people. Even had a go at shooting seed balls with a slingshot to assist revegetation of the cliffs following a massive, devastating fire. Besides the eco side, shooting a seed ball and seeing it fly through the air is a pretty good feeling.

This was absolutely amazing . The whole experience from the ferry to the buffet lunch was great. You take a ferry from the Harbour to the west head . Upon arrival you take a 4x4 trip the top of the west head stopping at a few spots for fantastic photo opportunities. Then you walk down ( 2.2km ) alongside the mountain back to the main house where you are served with a 5 star buffet lunch . The walk down is not hard at all . The entire adventure has a scenic view from start to finish and the buffet lunch was easily the best I have ever had with a big variety of food choices. I would recommend this to everyone when they visit Knysna . Definitely worth every penny ... A must do ...

Featherbed nature reserve in my opinion is the best way to see the natural beauty of Knysna. The tour execution from start to finish is something to admire, friendly staff, restaurant with great food, knowledgeable tour guide on the boat and on the trip. I suggest taking the lunch tour and walking back to the restaurant is a must as you get to see the breathtaking views along the hike.

Still just as beautiful as when I visited as a child, newly built structures due to the 2015 fires look awesome and welcoming. Breathtaking views. Weather wasn't great during the hike but still thoroughly enjoyed it!

My experience was absolutely amazing! The tour guides, Collin and Sue were great. Such lovely people; very friendly, very professional and very informed. I enjoyed every single part of it, including the walk up the hill to the restaurant. Speaking of the restaurant, the three-course buffet was to die for. I haven't eaten food that wonderfully-prepared in a long time. The weather was perfect, as well. It was a 4-hour tour across the lagoon to the restaurant, all for R600 per person, which means for 3 people it'll probably be around R1800. For the experience I had, I must say it's quite affordable. Well done on the pricing 👏🏾🔥🔥🔥. I don't know what the 1-hour ferry tour is like, but I would definitely recommend the 4-hour ferry tour to anyone who wants to visit Knysna. I would also recommend coming during the May month as anytime before or after then will be too hot or too cold. Well done to the entire Featherbed Nature Reserve Boat Tours team👏🏾🔥❤️

My family and I had a wonderful morning on the Featherbed reserve with our guide, Colin. Starting with a fresh but relaxing boat ride, we were told about the lagoon, local area history, and origins of the reserve. Upon arriving at the beautiful reserve, we had a short break and quick walk up to the vehicle, before being taken up to the top of the headland to glorious views of East Head, the lagoon and open sea. Next was a downhill walk back to Featherbed base, with a stop off to the beautiful sea caves. It's a stunning walk. You get up close and personal with the plants, and we saw some beautiful birds. The last section along the shore is particularly stunning. We finished back at the restaurant with a buffet lunch, which was excellent, with lots of choices. After lunch, we had time to dip our toes in the water (very chilly) before being taken back to base by the boat. After a few very active days, it was a wonderful relaxing experience in a beautiful area. Highly recommended for all ages and abilities. Bring layers (cold on boat, hot on walk). Thanks very much!

This was an amazing outing and experience. The boat trip across the lake to the nature reserve, the drive up the mountain and the awesome 2.2km scenic walk back to the boat. Quick drink and food and back to the mainland. 3 to 4 hours trip. Totally worth it and we will do it again. Thanks for this awesome experience.

Great place to visit. Travelled across estuary in lovely clean boat, with an entertaining commentary. Then walked from jetty at Featherbed up a hill to where transport was waiting to take us up the hill. Short stop for magnificent views across the estuary. At the top, we then commenced a guided walk back down to the restaurant where a nice lunch awaited us. (Those with mobility issues were taken up and fown on a golf cart so that they didn't miss out). Lovely clean environment, well maintained, a pleasure to visit.

What an experience this was on the John Benn! A bit pricy but it comes with the territory, of course.
It's literally as advertised, a floating restaurant. You can sit wherever you want [depending on when you board the boat], and once you're in your seat you can sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful views of Knysna [Nice-na] all around you!
A trip you ABSOLUTELY must do if you're in Knysna for a few days!

Incredible day with Johannesburg, Shaquille, Collin, Julius, and the boat driver (wish I could remember his name). It was very entertaining and well laid out. You should be able to walk about 2 miles with changing terrain to do this walk. You will be offered a trekking stick…take it! Make sure to hydrate on warm days. The views are beautiful and picturesque. Collin was a great guide and incredibly attentive to his customers during the walk. Lunch onsite was a delicious buffet. Wonderful!

Oh wow, this is a must do experience for anyone visiting South Africa and especially the garden route. It has a ferry ride with entertaining guides talking about the history of the area. Access on and off the boat is easy. Then a great 4x4 truck ride up the mountain, sit on the left side for best views. After that you can return with the truck or hike back to the restaurant down the hill. It's tough but I managed and I have dodgy knees and am not fit, just take it slow. The views and flora are incredible. After all the excersize, you have a delicious buffet lunch, beers and wine are available for your account. Amazing day out.

Trail was perfect for kids . We arrived early and after picking a trail we ended up taking this one instead. Wide enough for 4 people to walk at a time, the sights and sounds were gorgeous.

Did the 9km hike. Trail is in a terrible state. Trees down. Had to literally climb over a massive one. Had to also keep my eyes on the ground the whole way in order not to stub my feet on rocks and roots. And it’s sooooooo steep. Got to a river at 4.5km and could not see where to go. Thought it was a ‘circular’ trail. So I turned around and walked back the way I had come. Do not do this hike alone - as I did. If I’d turned my ankle or worse I’d have been stuck on the trail all night. At least. When I got back to the hut you pay at, at 5.30pm it was locked up and staff had gone home. Zero safety provisions in place. Signs on the trail are also non existent as they are to indicate where it actually starts. Really really bad and I’m really really lucky to have gotten out of there in one peace. Beware!

Great walk through the forest. Some steep climbing and descending but very manageable.

With all due respect, this is completely useless to people who have seen a forest before - unless you just want to go for a nice walk. Like you have done (for free) a thousand times, at least in Europe or North America. Don't get me wrong, it is nice - but when on vacation in South Africa, a complete waste of time. Do something you don't have at home 😊

I loved driving on this road and seeing the incredible landscape it crosses! This paved road is easy to get to from Oudtshoorn. The rock layers look like a movie set for an Indians Jones movie. One cannot simply pass without visiting this treasure! A brief walk of about a kilometer takes you from plentiful parking lots to the falls.
The parking lots are stunningly kept and public toilet facilities are available.
The entire area is stunningly beautiful and clearly a lot of effort goes into keeping this place that way.
If you are an adrenaline junkie, the rock jumping at this location is fantastic!
Thank you for keeping this attraction so stunningly beautiful and FREE.

Great little stop over in the Meiringspoort pass. Just a short walk from the road there is a excellent pool with clear water. A few smaller pools below to swim in. It is VERY slippery on the green moss and a slip and fall is a real threat if you have kids or an elderly person. But with the right shoes an reight attitude this was a great day out

The waterfall is not such a far walk from the parking area. You can see this place is being maintained well with railings and steps to make the walk easier. If you feel like taking a dive in the cool water, you can do that. There is also no fee you need to pay going to the waterfall.

A short hike is all it takes to this place of beauty. The stunning pool below the waterfall had many splashing about. The water was cool and refreshing on a hot day. It has a little room at the bottom that shows the history of the pass. And it's all free!

A friend suggested I take a detour from the N1 to Capetown and pass through Meiringspoort Warerfall. And boy oh boy was it worth it! As you approach the gorge along the N12 you suddenly disappear in between the sandstone walls on either side of the road you instantly feel so at peace. The windy road that leads to the waterfall is so breath taking and serene. Some of the rock formations have created balancing roocks that look like the sandstone has been carved by hand.
When you arrive at the waterfall site, Its a very short hike from the car park to the actual waterfall, small kids and even pensioners can manage it easily. The entire park is very clean and tidy as well.
The water in the plunge pool is ice cold, but what an experience being there!
Edward Katerere — Google review
Only a short walk to the waterfall, just a short incline at the start, but even the unfit person can do. Just hold on to the railing as the rocks can be slippery. There are toilet facilities and it is kept clean all day. There are baboons around in the parking area,so be careful . Saw one trying to get into another persons car when she opened her back door....Well worth the stop!

During our travels, we passed through Meiringspoort and was taken back by the beauty of the road leading through the mountains. Awestruck is the only word that comes to mind, and I dont think it does the pass any justice.
When there, stop at the waterfall, take a short walk into the mountain, and enjoy the waterfall.
Sam Theron — Google review
Beautiful place to visit. A bit of a walk into the mountain to see the waterfall, but quite save with rails to hold on to. You can swim in the natural pool under the waterfal. You do not have to be extremely fit to see the place! Nice clean toilets.

Spectacular drive on Route 62. The rockery on either side of the road looks so magnificant. Stop at the sign with the waterfall, the other stops have clean toilets and a table to eat but no access to the falls. It's a short walk, for persons with limited mobility rather have a walking aid and take a slow walk. The rocks around the falls can be slippery, shoes with a grip are preferable. Swimming is not allowed, but some people did take dip. There is no entry fee and no access control to the falls.
zainub jooma — Google review
Wow, such a short walk for such a great sight! The steps lead up, along the mountainside a short ways, then onto water worn rocks, opening up to the waterfall. The rocks on the last little bit before the waterfall are slippery, and I can imagine it would be tricky to navigate when wet.

Spoil yourself and your family with this unique stopover. Come prepared to swim in the waterfall pool - especially as a break from a long drive through this part of the country.
Reception told us about the extra fee for a guide but we opted to walk around ourselves, then we saw a group go into the cage with the wolves and went back to reception to ask about the encounter experience. It was part of the guide fee. I just wish they told us up front.
So we paid it and got to go in and get kisses with some wolf dogs and huskies.
The farm animal experience is an added bonus after you've explored the wolves and dogs.
A lovely experience for those who love animals as much as my daughter does
Diana — Google review
For me it was just sad that the wolves are in such a small area. Also their ears are bitten by flies and its raw, I do understand that they are wild animals and difficult to treat. I do also understand money is a problem and they need much more of the local rich peoples support. They are doing a good job there. Any rescue organisation is doing their best with what they have.

It's okay. Honestly, there's not much to write home about. The cost is pretty steep, but I do understand it is to help look after the animals. The lady working there is very knowledgeable, but it seems like she uses 'substances'. Very nice lady, though : )
If you want to look at farm animals, ONE WOLF, and several wolf/ dog cross breeds and have some time to kill, I'd recommend it.

When we arrived, we didn't expect that much, as the area looks rather simple, but luckily we had booked a guided tour and this was a great experience. Also, don't shy away from the toasted sarmies, best lunch we've had so far on our trip at a crazy good price. Thank you!

Lovely place on the garden route.
Big sanctuary with emus, pigs, rabbits, birds, ponies etc
The main draw is the wolves, wolf dogs and huskies.
We paid for the tour (i strongly recommend). The lady who did our tour (cannot remember her name but she had striking blue eyes) was so friendly and really knew her animals. We were allowed to say hello to some and others just observe outside. It was really interesting learning about the genetics and traits.
Enclosures safe and secure and clean with as much natural stimulus as possible (logs, trees, hiding dens).
They are doing the best they can with resources they have but all the animals looked ok.

Knysna Elephant Park is a rescue facility that provides guests with an opportunity to closely interact with elephants within their natural habitats. Spending a night or two at the park is highly recommended as visitors can watch the elephants come out to eat branches and observe them sleeping. Patience pays off as they sometimes stay out late. The cafe serves fantastic food, and staff are attentive, including friendly guides like Ndumiso.
I loved my experience at Knysna Elephant Park. The information provided was excellent and there was a wonderful rich history behind the park. The hands on interactions with the elephants were incredible. Definitely buy the bucket of food to feed them as this is well worth the extra cost. They are such lovely, gentle creatures who deserve the very best.

The feeling of a gentle, curious elephant trunk seeking out a treat from the palm of my hand was indescribable. These gentle creatures moved me. My husband and loved our experience with these beautiful, intelligent, character-filled animals. The guides were excellent and I can't recommend this experience more highly. Highly recommend a visit to the Elephant Park if you're in Knysna. The guides are knowledgeable, the elephants are clearly well cared for, and there is ample opportunity to get really close to these incredible animals under supervision, and to feed them by hand. There are also plenty of zebras! (I'd also recommend a visit to the restaurant on site - we had great service and lovely, extremely reasonably-priced food). A great way to spend a morning or an afternoon.

What a treasure. The elephants are the celebrities but the staff and facilities are brilliant. We had an incredible morning, walking with the elephants and then feeding them and watching them munch on branches when the food we brought for them had run out. They are magestic and beautiful. The food at the restaurant was delicious. This was the highlight of our week off adventuring around the incredible garden route

An Unforgettable Encounter with Gentle Giants
Visiting the Knysna Elephant Park on September 27th was nothing short of a magical experience. This mesmerizing adventure promptly made its way to the top of our recommended activities list and should be a bucket-list item for anyone visiting the area.
Our encounter commenced with feeding the elephants a buffet of fruits and vegetables, a heartwarming experience that instantly connected us to these majestic creatures. The sparkle in their eyes as they reached for the food with their long, dexterous trunks added a sense of enchantment to our visit.
The joy only heightened as we proceeded to walk alongside the elephants, capturing the moments in photographs that would allow us to relive this unique experience for years to come. The backdrop of the park, along with the calm, gentle demeanor of these giant yet gentle beings, provided a picturesque setting for photos, making each shot a treasured memory.
Our guides were not only well-versed in the behavioral and physiological aspects of the elephants but also ensured a safe and respectful interaction between us and the gentle giants. Despite their enormous size, the African elephants were calm and graceful, and the knowledgeable guides kept us informed and comfortable, ensuring a safe environment throughout our visit.
The professionalism and expertise of the guides added a layer of safety that allowed us to immerse fully in the awe-inspiring experience. They educated us on the significant conservation efforts of the park, which further enriched our visit.
We wholeheartedly recommend the Knysna Elephant Park to anyone in search of an authentic and memorable wildlife interaction. The opportunity to feed, walk, and take photos with the elephants is something we believe everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. The memories we created at the Knysna Elephant Park are priceless and will be cherished forever.

Great experience overall. We had an elephant encounter (meet the herd) the day we checked in which was a bit of a let down initially, as our guide wasn't very knowledgeable and seemed a bit bored with the whole experience. We then stayed a night doing the sleep with the elephants experience which was wonderful, amazing to see and hear the elephants slowly rumbling themselves to sleep. You get as many "meet the herd" encounters as you want when you sleep with the elephants, so we decided to go again in the morning to hopefully have a better experience.
This time our guide Mac lead us to the elephants and was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He answered all our questions and more, we were so lucky to hear about some of his experiences with the elephants. Our conversation with him showed how much love he has for elephants, and the deep bond he has with the herd at Knysna. It was the highlight of our trip to the elephant park and may well be the highlight of our visit to South Africa.
Overall, the park is lovely and well kept. Elephant encounters are a once in a lifetime experience, but your satisfaction with the trip may depend heavily on the guide who takes you along. We cannot recommend Mac and his 25+ years of experience enough!

One of the most fantastic experiences you can have. I would highly encourage staying over a night or two. You can see the elephants coming to eat their branches before bed time and can watch them sleep. They sometimes stay out till late, so patience will pay off when waiting for them to sleep.
The food at the cafe is fantastic and fully worth it.
The staff are so helpful and attentive to the guests and the guides are amazingly friendly, especially Ndumiso.
There is also a variety of other attractions and animal conservations in the area, making for a rich mix of experiences for travellers and tourists.

We visited Knysna Elephant Park during our honeymoon. We went for the more budget tickets where you feed the elephants and then take some pictures standing next to them.
It was a lovely experience. You can buy a bucket of snacks for the elephants for R50 which is definitely worth it. They eat the snacks out of your hand which is very cool.
It’s nice to see these animals up close and personal so if you are in the area and have some money to spend, it’s a nice way to see some wildlife, especially if you never have before.

A fabulous place to visit to understand the work done to look after orphaned and mistreated elephants. Our guide was brilliant and our children loved feeding the elephants and being able to be so close to these amazing creatures.

Having been on a couple of occasions prior, this visit outshone the others. We did the 3 km experience and what an unbelievable experience it was. We each had our own elephant to walk with alongside a guide ( mine was so knowledgeable and just locely to chat to). We enjoyed a delicious breakfast which was included and went back to feed the elephants. I will treasure this forever. Thank you!

Absolutely wonderful experience. All staff extremely friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Gertrude was so welcoming on the front desk. Accommodation is so beautiful. Sleeping amongst the elephants was a fabulous experience. Rooms big and spotless clean. Tea and coffee making facilities in room. Cot available (travelled with our 11 month old). Microwave available in communal area. On site cafe closes at 17:00. You can pre order dinner or drive out to restaurants a very short drive away e.g. Plettenberg Bay 15 min drive. We did the feeding elephant tour which was included with our booking and then paid for the extra walking with elephants tour. Both incredible. Breakfast was included with our booking which included one drink and choice of about 4 different breakfast orders (omelette, cooked, fruit / yogurt / toast). Excellent value experience.

Excellent experience!! We (family of 4) stayed in one of their suites for a couple of nights. We fed the elephants, walked with the elephants and boy what an experience! Kids, big and small couldn’t get enough of the interaction time!! The elephants sleep indoors and we could observe them sleeping. I cannot recommend this sanctuary enough that is professional and friendly!! My daughter wanted to take sally home!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Our 2 x Grandsons loved the close encounter, although the youngest found the closeness a bit intimidating. Also enjoyed a good lunch, with myself having the Calamari burger. Was great!

Being close to these giants is an amazing experience.
However the guides seems to be bored by their job and the overall tour is a bit too much mechanical, lacking authenticity.
Still you should do it but don't expect too much.

Very welcoming and warm staff. We had great one hour elephant experience with our 2 years old. We could feed and walk with the elephants in a very natural way and interact on their conditions. At the end of the tour there is a nice playground and restaurant and gift shop. All great value for money. Perfect for kids, very clean and tidy.

We went for coffee and cake which was very good. Especially the carrot cake.
They have a cute curio shop.
We unfortunately couldn't do the elephant feeding etc. due to the price of it.
SA citizens could be given a different rate?
Otherwise a lovely stop off.

Just off the N2 between Knysna and, Plettenberg Bay, 6600, South Africa
Although there is rain damage to the roads the pass is well kept.
A high ride vehicle made the traveling easier than it would have been had we been in a sedan.
The views were spectacular. You need to take your time and not be in a rush.
There are a few parks boards sites to visit too.

What an adventure! It's scary with tight hair pin bends, narrow dirt/rocky road that needs some patience when passing on-coming cars. But.... the scenery is stunning! Any car with good tyres (and good brakes too) will be fine. I was fortunate from the start when a lovely couple found me parked at the side of the road deliberating whether to proceed or take the longer tarred road. They said just follow them which gave me some comfort and confidence as a solo traveller. It is just so beautiful although eyes stayed mainly the road! Only managed to get a few photos. Been on the Swartberg Pass which is also beautiful but even more scary.
As one goes down towards Knysna the scenery changes to lush green forests and the road gets easier to navigate.
One thing to watch out for is locals who know the road and tend to drive rather fast.

The Robberg Nature Reserve is a coastal and marine conservation area featuring dunes, Stone Age artifacts, and wildlife such as dolphins and blue duikers. The reserve derives its name from the Robberg Peninsula in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa. It spans about 5-6km up the Keurbooms River and offers breathtaking views and diverse flora.
What an amazing trail! Paths are well maintained and indicated. Would highly recommend for a family outing, or for a workout to sprint around the point. Full loop is approximately 8km with 200m of elevation. Keep in mind weather can change suddenly.
Schalk Bezuidenhout — Google review
One of the best hikes we ever made. You will see a lot of seals and enjoy stunning views and the rough ocean. After following the trail to the middle (big sand dune) you can choose whether you want to go to "The Point" (1,5h longer and highly recommended) or go down the dune and enjoy a bit of the beach after going the other trail back.
Micha Hees — Google review
Wonderful hike. The full circuit is a long way so make sure you leave enough time and make sure you have comfortable shoes- the route is a mix of path, rocks and sand but so worth it. Dramatic crashing waves, loads of seals and incredible views.
Rebecca Freemantle — Google review
Great walk around the island. Take the path to the point. Views will not disappoint, plenty of seals to see. Not for the leisurely walker, lovely scramble over the rocks.
Janice Wilman — Google review
Excellent nature reserve and a good range of paths around it, from moderate to reasonably challenging. We had good sighting (and smell and hearing) of hundreds and hundreds of seals below the path on the northern side, and at The Point.
Advisable to have plenty of drinking water and use sunblock - there is little shade on the walks.
Small entry fee. Reasonably sized car park. Refreshment stall and public toilets.
Well worth a visit if you enjoy good walking.

Did the long hike just over 9km right around the promontory. Absolutely recommended. Stunning views and fascinating flora. Saw a lot of cape fur seals and dolphins playing in the ocean. Stunning! If you are hiking fit an easy hike of 3 - 4 hours. I would recommend taking a whole day so that you can take in all the view points and swim at the lovely beach on the last stretch.

Absolutely loved it here! I did the hike and one of my all time favorite hikes! Not only is it challenging and the terrain is tough, but going to the Point means you get 9.5 kilometers.
Words cannot describe the beauty of this Nature Reserve. I definitely recommend it
Please note, you need some degree of fitness. Even for the shortened version

Great hike, it is not easy so you need to be trained, wear right hiking shoes and enjoy the seals, the landscape the views the beaches and hike hike hike as +300m elevation in 5k is already a good challenge. Be ready for up and down, if you do the normal way, going down to beach with beach sand is stunning. Greatly recommend and then have a quick swim was recovering.

We had a lovely time and passed 3-4 hours in total doing the middle length hike. There are some stunning views in certain parts of the hike which made the effort worthwhile. Visiting the Robberg Nature Reserve is a must-do activity if you happen to be in the area. One of the highlights were the seals colony which is quite big in the reserve. All in all highly recommended to do the hike. We did it with our two children, 11 and 13 years old and they really enjoyed it.

What a beautiful hike with spectacular views of the bay, I took the 11 km route around the Point and my wife the shorter walk through the gap. The paths were well marked out with a few boardwalks and steps to help. Highlights were seeing Candelabra Flowers blooming along the way and I loved watching the seals in their hundreds basking in the sun. Definitely a place I'd like to visit again.

It was our first trip to Robberg yesterday. We first weren't sure if we should go in or not. I'm glad we decided to go in though. Most beautiful views! We did the shortest walk - the Gap. Not very prepared but it was an easy walk on a well kept path. Such interesting rock formations along the way. There's a colony of seals that live on the island - thus it's name. It was so cool to see so many of them in one place. Bathrooms are clean and well kept. Great place for a picnic. We want to go down to the beach area next time. I see fishing is allowed which is a nice weekend activity as well. I see there's renovations or upgrades being done in the info building. Was a bit disappointed that we couldn't go in and ask questions about the flora and geography aspects we saw along the way. Also there's a very convenient coffee stand by the parking lot. I just wish they had ice cream. I would definitely recommend going hiking here.

This place is a gorgeous hiking peninsula. It has wonderful views from all sides. It is the best place for hiking in the Garden Route area. It has three hiking Trails (2.1 km, 5.5km, and 9 km) with medium difficulty. It is very well maintained and preserved. It has a colony of seals (public nature reserve). You can enjoy watching seals, sharks, sunset, nature bueties, and wonderful views. And enjoy doing s nice hiking exercise. It has a very clean beach with weak waves. It is very nice to spend half a day, or one day in this place. It is better to come early to enjoy the hiking trails and the place.
In short, if you like to do only one hiking in the Garden Route area, this one should be your first choice.
Entrance fee (as of Aug. 2022):
Adults: 60 Rand per person.
Childern: 40 Rand per child.

A stunning place with various hiking options to suit most people, from relatively easy to a little more challenging. Home to one of SA’s most beautiful beaches. Don’t forget to explore the island, run down the dunes, or maybe even book the overnight hut. Can get extremely busy in peak periods though so head there mid-week and out of season to get the most tranquil experience.

Thanks Cape Nature for a well laid out and maintained trail.

If staying in the area, Plett, Knysna, the Robberg Nature Reserve is a must! We were lucky to have fine weather at the beginning of August and could go on a weekday, so neither the parking space nor the paths were crowded. We chose the shortest of the three possible routes, and we were right! Not because of the length, we would have been able to go much further, but beware of the heights! I'm not feeling comfortable when I have to look down steep rocks and the path is sometime quite narrow and doesn't leave a lot of space between the rocks on the one side and a steep decent on the other! But to tell you the truth: it was worth it! Tge scenery is just breathtaking. Some spring flowers were out already, birds were basking and singing in the sun, and the numbers of people very limited. A short excursion into the a beautiful place!

Such a beautiful place! We took the long hike (“The point”, 9-10km). Took about 5 hours. The hike is challenging and some parts aren’t easy, yet there are not enough words to describe the powerful nature of this reserve. Bonus- you get to see seals, and we even saw dolphins and a whale😍

An incredible place and absolute must do when in Plett! If it’s a hot and sunny day, try go earlier in the day to avoid bigger crowds and the heat. We did the medium course (about 5km) which is tough in some places due to the heat and terrain, so a medium level of fitness is required. Highly recommend!

Great nature reserve, scenic, and (if one chooses) adventurous trails.
The only issue is the management of admission, which is thoroughly disorganized when there's many people - allowing for rude personalities to cut lines and live out their "me first" attitude.
Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary is a sanctuary for large cats such as leopards, jaguars and Bengal tigers. The sanctuary operates on a no-touch, no-breed policy. Visitors are advised to bring water with them as it can get hot. Some of the animals were hiding in their shelters or in the shade during the visit but became active during feeding time at 3pm. The tour lasted about an hour and visitors can purchase gifts and enjoy coffee, food and snacks at the restaurant.

After a couple of days in the local area, we popped into Jukani and joined a guided tour for a look around this wonderful wildlife sanctuary. Our guide Elvis was fabulous. He took us around, enclosure by enclosure helping us to locate and observe each animal, telling us all about them. It was incredibly interesting, and sometimes sad to know why the animals were there, but it's clear to see they are receiving the very best care in as natural environment as it's possible to keep them. We are huge animal lovers, esp big cats, and often visit zoos back in the UK as it's the only way to see these wonderful animals. However, Jukani doesn't feel like a zoo. Elvis is very passionate about the animals, and the respect he has for them is clear to see. It was a wonderful experience, and we would love to go back, and to visit the sister parks someday. Also, the gift shop was fabulous. We bought t-shirts and all our holiday gifts there, lovely selection. Thanks, keep doing what you're doing!

I am a fan of seeing animals in an open environment or close range. Both of such experiences were not available here. The reason is, this is the shelter of rescued animals. We were a bit disappointed not being able to see much. When we got half way a friendly man working there must of seen our disappointed in the scorching heat and said its best to come during feeding times as the animals anticipate meal times and come out waiting for their food. That was kind, but also a bit late to tell us. That info would of been appreciated at Reception where we paid close to R1000. Other than that I can understand the cost because of the upkeep of the grounds and the feeding of the animals.

A good walk with a friendly and very informative tour guide (Hayden). This type of sanctuary is not uncommon and is needed in today's world. They're doing good work here at Jukani. If you feel uncomfortable (or triggered, to use a better word), speak to your tour guide about the animals. Ask him/her where the animal came from. While the park is small, it is certainly not a tourist trap and it is certainly not expensive. From someone who has been to many zoos, reserves and sanctuaries, what stood out for me was the knowledgable tour guide; I learnt quite a bit from him. If you're in the area, it's not a bad way to spend about 90 minutes.

What a great experience! Snakes have always been very scary to me, but after this educational and fun experience, I feel like I understand them much better now, and I’m less afraid. There are really a lot of different types of snakes to see here. Our guide (his name is Ken), was amazing: He was funny, charismatic and very smart. He gave us a lot of information, but it never got boring. We learned a lot of interesting things, and we asked lots of questions, which were all answered very well. At first I was very scared to touch a snake, but in the end it was a lot of fun. Before we went, I thought that it was maybe a bit expensive, but after going, I can definitely say that it is worth the money. I would definitely recommend going here. I also think children would love it.

Just off the N, 2 the crags, The Crags, Plettenberg Bay, 6602, South Africa
Monkeyland is a sanctuary offering guided tours to observe free-ranging primates such as capuchin monkeys, lemurs, and gibbons. The knowledgeable and entertaining guides make the experience worthwhile. Visitors are advised to attend feeding times for optimal viewing opportunities but should be cautious of blue vervet monkeys. Unfortunately, the restaurant is not recommended due to poor service from rude and lazy waitresses who prioritize their phones over customers.
Highly recommended tour, that I’d advise not only for children. Very important to apply anti mosquito cream, they will offer you free.
There are 500 hundred monkeys spread over 12 hectors of walking trails (about 10 monkey species)
Also the monkeys have complete freedom around the place but they wont harm you.

What a wonderful experience. Well-informed guides are ready to answer all questions and so many beautiful monkeys to see. Always keep a look out along the paths bushes as there are many lemurs taking naps and snuggling
Jamie Cronje — Google review
Exceeded our expectations massively! The guides are fantastic and we came away with a million facts about the animals and place. Would highly recommend a quick stop if you are passing through - took about 1.5 hours and was well worth it!
Paul Carroll — Google review
Such an awesome experience. We saw 8 of the 9 species of primates. The guides are knowledgeable, experienced and entertaining. Try to go during feeding times.
Beware of the blue vervet monkeys.
(P.s. the restaurant is horrible. Give it a skip. The waitresses are rude and lazy, the "Jane Doe" lemonade is Shwepps, the meat was raw, the food was cold and some people were already finished by the time other's food came. The waitresses are more concerned with their phones. They are dressed inappropriately...

Absolutely love any experience with animals. Do not expect to touch & hold the animals as this is stressful for them & not encouraged in the sanctuary. It was however lovely to watch them wander around freely & we were there close to feeding time to see even more of them.

So impressed! Tour guide VERY knowledgeable. So wonderful to see monkeys running around freely.
They give you free mosquito repellent, put LOTS on. Recommended for all ages. Lovely cafe at beginning/end of tour to grab a snack.

Absolutely loved this place, the guide was very informative and chatty. There were so many monkeys and lemurs which would come up close. There were some babies playing together and it was so nice to see.

Loved this experience so much. Our guide was well spoken and gave us all the answers to our questions. Very informative with the odd joke.
Park is well maintained and clean. Monkeys are well looked after and spoiled as they say.

Since my last visit, a big change. Experience tour guide, who shared his knowledge with us and we saw all the different monkeys. A must visit, although there is a lot of mosquitoes, it is still worth the visit.

Had the best of service with Tour Guide and Laura at front desk, think she is the manager. Keep up the great work all these years Laura and me,wife and kids really enjoyed our visit straight out of Capetown and the warm heart welcoming. Thanks to Mr Ralph Savage also for assisting us when we walked in. I love you guys and be safe God Bless

It's ok.. you get to see monkeys in open, it's an experience, if it's raining, don't think of going there, it's waste. You will find only few types visible. Also, it's slippery. If you still want to go, find a spot in sunny day.
Jaymin Dave (Jay) — Google review
It is a very informative place with an amazing variety of monkeys. The guide is excellent, and you really do learn about the animals and their habitat. It's a great place to take the kids. It is an interactive walk, so wear comfortable clothes and do not carry anything loose that the monkeys can snatch from you.
Tania Gelasini — Google review
Absolutely brilliant, tour guide was informative, interesting and had a great sense of humour. Lots of monkeys and you are so close to them you could touch them. The monkeys are not in cages and can move around freely as they wish.
James Baker — Google review
A great time spent at Monkeyland! The guides are clearly so passionate about the monkeys. You won’t get this up close and personal with monkeys in many places in a ethical way. A tip, wear mosquito repellent as there are lots! A defiant visit!

Lovely experience up close with all the monkeys. A must see when in the area. Guides are good with children and keeping the monkeys from getting rowdy.
Marnus Venter — Google review
You'll definitely see a lot of monkeys. The situation in the waiting room was awkward, as we were kind pushed to give more money.
Tour was cool, we learned a lot about the animals and you get close to them (better do not take sunglasses with you).
Price for the tour was okay.

What an amazing, guided tour in and amongst the monkeys at Monkeyland - they are not in cages which makes the experience absolutely delightful - I would certainly recommend this to all

Magical! We were surrounded by monkeys (and Gibbons and Lemurs) and the guide was excellent. Very much recommended

This place is great !
I just wish they would list that you should wear proper footwear, as it's muddy and you will slip in slide in your sandals and such.
Also, put on mosquito repellent, I was in shorts and look like I have been hunted down by every mosquito at the park.
I had been bite free during the Plett holiday 😂.
Our guide Prince was very knowledgeable and made the hour walk feel like 10 Min.
The highlight for my niece and I was were the Gibbons, we were lucky enough to have one have a snack by us and see her walk away which was ADORABLE

Birds of Eden is a free-flight sanctuary that spans over 5 acres and boasts more than 200 bird species. The area is covered by a massive mesh dome, allowing visitors to enjoy self-guided walks while being surrounded by birds in their natural habitat. The wooden walkway takes guests from the root level of tall trees all the way up to the treetops and ceiling of the dome, providing an amazing experience.
What an incredible experience! The well constructed wooden walkway takes one down to almost root level of incredibly tall trees before going back up again to a plateau almost at the level of the tree tops and the ceiling of the dome. Simply amazing! Wheelchair friendly too! Well worth the visit.
Harry Fr?hlich — Google review
Birds of Eden was hands down the highlight of our trip. This Sanctuary is a experience like no other. A huge open air bird cage, and I mean like huge. My wife and I had so much fun walking through the Sanctuary and spotting birds and trying to check off as many birds as we could from our bird identification book. Beautiful indigenous forest with a plethora of beautiful creatures.
Gideon Burger — Google review
What an awesome adventure.
We spent almost 4 hours here, in total awe. I could have stayed for another 4 hours easily.
The birds and the walkways are awesome. Lots of seating allows you to sit and enjoy the sounds.
No touching or feeding of birds is allowed.
The small restaurant at the end was a bit disappointing - the fact that they only took cash meant that we couldn't eat there.
At R350 pp, it seems pricey, but it was worth every cent.
I recommend getting a guidebook (R20) and pen at the start so that you can identify the birds.
Highly recommended.
Jane “JaneyPaney” Schultz — Google review
I am actually not a big fan of birds, but this place is well done. Beautiful jungle landscape with rivers, waterfalls, lakes, flowers, bridges and walkways under an enormous tent. Pretty birds. Much more natural than just a few birds in a Zoo. Really well worth coming here.
Bruno Catellani — Google review
We took our family through on a rather wet and rainy day. The entrance fee is expensive and a walk through the sanctuary will last around 60 to 90mins. The walkways were great and the natural beauty was fantastic. We say a few species of bird but not as many as you'd expect. The facilities weren't great. The toilets were okay but the cafe was very poor. My daughter's really enjoyed being able to get close to the birds and the adventure of walking through tree tops. Overall very pretty and worth a visit.

My goodness! This aviary is amazing!
We thoroughly enjoyed the time there.
Make sure to buy the identification guide, worth it.
The walk through the aviary was truly amazing. The sound of the different birds was like we were in the forest.
The wooden boards really made it easier to take beautiful pictures of all the different species. We also enjoyed sitting down on the benches along the paths.
Some of the birds are familiar to people and will come up close.
The sanctuaries have combos you can purchase. We purchased a combo and it was definitely worth it.
I will recommend this place to everyone I know.
Carina Agenbag — Google review
A wondeful place to visit. Beautiful experience to walk freely between all the birds. An easy walk along the boardwalks. Wheelchair friendly. Just do not waste time to eat at the restaurant inside. Service is very very slow. Used up all our time we wanted to spend with the birds instead. Entrance fee is R350 per person. If you want to do Monkey land as well a combo ticket costs R590 per person. (2023 prices)
Mark Chimes — Google review
A spectacular place to visit! One of the best sanctuaries in South Africa with around 200 bird species freely flying in a very spacious closed aviary about 3 hectares large and up to 60 m high. Though the feeling is that it is larger since the walkway zigzag across the park on different levels.
It is very pleasant just to stroll along the walkways and watch for the birds, or to sit on one of tens of the benches standing here and there. The bird reference guide is available at the entrance for R20, thus it is possible to determine any bird species you encounter. Binocular could be helpful, since the aviary is huge.
There is a nice small restaurant inside with a good choice of dishes with many vegetarian options and very competitive prices.
Vladimir Azov — Google review
The visit was an absolute joy with an astonishing range of exotic birds.
No time pressure so you can get lost in the landscape and walking levels with a new sight at every turn.
The free flight principle is fantastic both for the birds and visitors. Easily worth spending 2 hours absorbing the unique experience.
N Goodall — Google review
This is a must do activity in Plettenberg bay. There is a long but manageable walk down and back up the area on wooden walkways. No stairs. There is a suspension bridge to cross but it is easy. So many birds to see, if you don't get the perfect picture straight away, wait, you will see the bird again. Nice coffee shop at end with roosterkoek and other light lunches plus cold beer.
Riki Armstrong — Google review
What a beautiful natural habitat, I enjoyed my visit at this place, I highly recommend it for people who want to have a relaxing peaceful time with family.
Listening to the different melodies that the birds made in the morning when they woke up and during the afternoon when they returned to their nests was calming and very extraordinary, I can't even begin to describe the feeling.I believe its a once in a lifetime experience that everyone should try. If you need a weekend getaway just to find peace, this is the place to be, it's great all year round...

Birds of Eden is absolutely amazing, it's a massive forest covered with a huge net to keep all the amazing and beautiful birds inside. We especially enjoyed seeing all the parrots and macaws flying freely.

Tread softly, look closely into the foliage and you will be rewarded. We saw lots of birds, much more than expected. As the walk progresses, the number of birds increases and there were also some deer. Highlight was spotting Knysna birds and spoonbills.

We have been to many bird sanctuaries around the world and this has been by far our favorite. So many beautiful birds! Our kids (9 and 12 years old) liked it way more than Monkeyland, which really surprises my wife and I. This is a must-see place.

Lloyd and his amazing crew provided my boyfriend and I the most magical experience ever. We booked the full day Elephant Keeper for a day program and it did not disappoint. We were able to brush, feed, and walk with the elephants — while all the while, learning everything and anything there is to know about elephants from Lloyd and his amazing crew. The interactions, knowledge and pure magic that we were able to experience is something I know my boyfriend and I will treasure forever. This elephant sanctuary, program and overall experience was well worth the six hour drive from Cape Town to Plettenberg. 10/10 would recommend!!!!

The tour is shorter than I expected it to be and felt a bit rushed.
The overall experience is really lovely. It’s so rare to be able to be this close to elephants. They run off of positive reinforcement with treats.
The gift shop is full on incredible options. Highly recommend picking up a few things here. You will not find this type of work in tourist gift shop places like the airport

It was such a privilege to interact with these gentle giants. My wife was initially apprehensive but the calm, highly knowledgeable keepers ensured that she thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Some conservationists suggest that humans shouldn't interact with elephants because the elephants find it stressful however these 5 beautiful animals clearly welcomed our attention, much in the manner that a pet dog or horse would.
John Corden (Kipper Sailing) — Google review
What an awesome adventure walking with these giants.
The Elephant Sanctuary cares for elephants that would not survive naturally in the wild. We were able to take photos & video, feed them, walk with them tunk in hand. The guides were fantastic explaining, showing and guiding us around these majestic animals. I can highly recommend the experience, especially for families.
Jaco du Toit — Google review
Very careful and lovely treatment of the animals which were calm and had good manners. It’s a great project and rescue place for them. The animals are safe and used to people and it seemed like they enjoyed the contact with the visitors. We went on a „happy Elefant day“ (=rain day) and got coats to walk with the elefants through the forest and got a very lovely experience.
NI NA — Google review
It has always been a dream of mine to be able to hang out with an elephant and experience their majestic nature up close. This place was excellent for that! We booked the brushing experience and walking tour with the elephants first thing in the morning on Tuesday.
Our main guide was so passionate about the elephants and knew the answers to all my questions. I can see how some people may think this is touristy. In fact, a lot of people just come to these places to say they took pictures with an elephant and touched one.
The guides at first seemed like they were just going through the motions with the routine of brushing, teaching, walking the elephants, etc. but once they saw I had a giant elephant tattoo on my forearm and genuinely cared about learning more about the elephants and less about the pictures, they warmed up to me.
The time slot allowed of 1 hour does not allow you to truly connect with an elephant and observe their behavior, however, it does let you interact with an elephant, learn about their anatomy and behavior, connect with wonderful guides and feed them apples.
As an elephant “novice” this place was exactly what I was looking for. If you’ve been to a bunch of elephant sanctuaries, going off other people’s reviews, it may be different than what you’re expecting. But the elephants are healthy, happy and the guides are truly committed to taking care of them (most of the elephant keepers + guides sleep with them every night to protect them from poachers), which to me, is wonderful. And I will remember their passion and the beautiful memories of Thandi, Marula and Jabo forever.
Krysten Vazquez — Google review

Super friendly staff. The experience is so amazing and the time went by so fast😍they will give you information about the elephants then they will introduce your own elephant to you and their name ,age..etc then you’ll walk with your own elephant and feed him😍also, you can purchase the video they recording to your group at the end. I wish if they provide “elephant ride” experience.

Beautiful and fun place
There are 5 elephants
You can take pictures with the elephants, then touch them, then feed them, and the guide continued explaining them and giving orders.
You can buy the video after the tour and they will send it to you by your email.
There is a shop where you can take a souvenir of the trip.
Every hour and a half there will be a tour if you come and it may start or you will have to wait for the next one
10/10

"Please do not go here. They try to pass it off as a sanctuary, but it's just a money-making scheme at the expense of these poor elephants. There are only five elephants on a small patch of land, forced to put on a circus act all day long. Every hour, they're paraded around for tourist photos, one after the other, with their trunks placed in tourists' hands, posing and walking for the cameras. After that they have to pose again for photos with tourists. Than three of them are forced to walk around holding onto eachother's tails just for more photo opportunities and the staff wants the visitors to applaud for this. And this goes on relentlessly, day in and day out. On their confined land, there's not even grass or bushes for them to graze on; they're fed like animals in a zoo. This is no life for them. It's clear these elephants aren't living their best lives - I even doubt if they were genuinely rescued or simply purchased for profit.
We went in expecting to see happy, rescued elephants, but instead, we left feeling sorry for them. Within minutes, it was clear they were being pushed around by the staff. We refused to take part in any more photo sessions after seeing how they were treated.
The staff constantly hound the elephants to perform, and the only time the staff crack a smile is when they're asking for a big tip at the end of the hour."

Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation & Awareness Centre is a non-profit organization that offers lodging, tours and experiences to visitors who can observe various big cats such as lions, leopards and cheetahs. The center aims to raise funds for the rehabilitation of injured wild animals, although visitors are not allowed to visit these facilities due to safety concerns. The knowledgeable guides provide valuable insights into the conservation efforts at Tenikwa, making it an educational experience for those interested in wildlife conservation.
If you are thinking about doing a safari in a private reserve, don’t and come here! It was such a pleasure to support their incredible activities. Our guide was wonderful: so passionate and knowledgeable! An amazing tour, we learn and saw a lot.
Francesca Palmiotto — Google review
One can see very beautiful "big cats" such as serval, caracal, lion, leopard and cheetah. We expected to visit the rehabilitation facilities and how local employees/volunteers take care of wounded wild animals but this is unfortunately not possible. The concept is actually to exhibit big cats to raise money to finance the rehab center which is not open to public. Our guide was good.

This is a great place to see the animal rescued as well as the resident birds and animal who will live thier lives here. It's a must to visit in the garden route as the cause, saving these animals is enough and they really need our support so for that alone, it's definitely worth a visit.
Arnold Petersen — Google review
If you want to spot some wildcats in South Africa we can recommend coming here. You will only see animals which can’t live on their own in the wildness again. The other rescued animals are kept away from humans.
For 260 ZAR you can book a tour where a guide tells you a lot about the animals and helps you spot the animals.

This was one of the best sanctuaries i ever visited. The enclosures of the animals are well taken care of and they have a big space. But to be honest what really made our day was talking to the staff there. Our guide was funny but he also knew his facts! Talking to other staff members we soon realised that everyone has put their heart into this sanctuary. It’s inspiring how much love they have for the animals. We talked to them for a long time and they were happy to answer every question.. detailed!! They don’t only care about they’re animals with passion but also make sure the people visiting get the best experience possible. I can recommend this to everyone. No matter if you are a animal lover who looks for a good adventure or if you just happen to pass by. Leaving the sanctuary i felt educated and more aware and that’s exactly how it should be.
They also have a really nice gift shop if you are still looking for a good souvenir :)
Thank you so much for everyone there sharing their knowledge and talking to us. You really made our day!

Excellent tour with an informative and passionate guide. They do great work here - sheltering some animals temporarily while they recover and then releasing them when they're better, and looking after some animals permanently which can't be released for whatever reason. They need support to keep going which means visitors and donations.

There is no better way to get up close and personal with the exquisite beauty of the Nature's Valley/The Crags area. Our guides, Tabs and King Julian, were professional and friendly and made us feel safe at all times. I love swimming and water sport, and this tour offers abseiling, ziplining into water and cliff jumping all in one. You don't have to be experienced in any of the latter; it was my first time abseiling and both guides were excellent with demonstrating first, and then keeping an eye on every step we took. Wetsuits and all safety gear are supplied, booties are to rent. I'd say if you're afraid of heights, this is not for you. And if not, go, go, go! There is plenty of time in the refreshing river water. I will definitely be back.

Great experience that takes you out of your comfort zone with the best instructors and guides who not only assist you in every way they can but also go at your pace. Ask for Black 1 and King Julian, you will not stop laughing!
Only critique is that the wetsuits should be checked for broken zips and better shoes would be great as the shoes provided had no grip. Gripped waterproof shoes would be better.

Not been there but as a retired game warden and reviewing the photos this is not ethical in terms of wild life conservation.
Reed buck are not endemic to the Karoo nor are Sable, Nyala and Cape buffalo. Sure, buffalo roamed free in the cape province but more east to the grasslands and dense coastal acacia bush veld and that was many decades back. Sad to see undernourished reedbuck which do not have watershed wetlands to roam in
The real perpetrators of this poor example of southern African conservation ethics is the department of wildlife conservation based in the province of the northern cape who issue permits to retain these animals in a fenced area of insufficient natural browse of grasslands and viewed on YouTube
Shame on you!!!

Very nice, rustic but you need nothing more. Have an amazing view. Very quiet. No cell signal but that is what you want. Do have Wi-Fi. We really enjoyed our visit extremely helpful staff/managers. Will visist again.
