At first the show made me a little bit dizzy but once I got accustomed to the view, I appreciated the beauty of the stars. It was also very informative and sparked an interest in learning more about the stars

We visited Bloemfontein for sport competition and wanted to explore the city a little bit as well. Unfortunately, the planetarium has sessions only on Saturdays. The nature reserve is open for visitors during the hours stated on the Google page but it makes is confusing. You have to visited the planetarium's Facebook page for the schedule. We were looking forward to our visit so feelt quite disappointed after we drove all the way up the hill (with a taxi) to be turned away by a security.

Naval Hill planetarium is one of the iconic building one has to visit in Bloemfontein, it's a pity they don't have shows everyday but I think it's due to the lack of customers, the only show you can watch is on Saturday at 7:00pm and what a show, it's a must watch. While there, look out for the range animal roam around the reserve. You can take a drive to the west side and see the Mandela's statue and breathtaking views of bloomfontien city. The reserve is very famous for running and cycling as there is no entry free.

We were very worried that we would be the only people there but to our surprise it was almost full. It was an adventure to outer space that we will never forget. The show was very informative.
Only getting 4/5 because one of the ladies toilets was disgusting.
Not sure what else can be done on Naval Hill but there is wildlife to be seen on route to the Planetarium.

We attended a "drive in" picnic style jazz concert, with the musicians performing on the stoep of the planetarium. The atmosphere was festive, music great, and the surroundings incredibly beautiful. My photo certainly won't do justice, but may just entice you to give the next concert a go.

Amazing experience. A trip to space and back with the Cosmic Collisions show.
Plenty of parking and wheelchair accessible. Great for kids, but would not advise the show for parents with toddlers.

Well I expected something else entirely, something like watching thru a huge telescope with a guide. But then what I got instead was no disappointment and a delightfully auspicious unexpected experience and education where they project the sky in the dome ceiling. The staff were warm and welcoming and my foriegn friend was happy and so they nailed it.
Absolutely an amazing place!!!!! Would recommend it to everyone. They are friendly, helpful and go the extra mile to make your experience something you will never forget!! Amazing people, delicious food and incredible interactions with these amazing animals!!

The place is great, specially for animal lovers. Perfect for a location event, has play area for kids as well. I didn't like the food prepared for us but that might just be a preference issue. The road going to the place is very bad, people going there would benefit if they use off road cars.

Only half of the park was open and we couldn't go see the big cat on our own Only on the tour .The food was okay but they are not like they were in the past but I can tell they were trying.

We had the amazing privilege today of a Private Tour around Bagamoya Lion Sanctuary with the owner Botha.
An unssuming man with a law degree.. His passion for his animals radiates and soon as you meet him.
The Sanctuary is a safe haven for rescued animals, which means it's a NO KILL shelter, he looks after them as though they were his own children, with such passion and enthusiasm.
His knowledge about each and every animal is unbelievable. He can tell you before you enter into the cages which animal will take a liking to you and which you might not. His two Cubs that you are allowed to play with I have no words to describe. Well behaved and lil bit naughty but at end of the day just want to be loved.
Botha, it was and honour to meet and spend the day with you learning about these animals and I am truly humbled by the work that you and your wife do for them everyday. From the lil Cubs, to the teenagers to the older Lions as well as the Cheethas, Leopardas and Caracals.
We cant wait to come and see you guys again with the progress you have made on the bird sanctuary, as well as well as all the other plans you mentioned today to me.
My sister was in her element for her birthday and for that I thank you.. I cannot think of another present that will beat this one. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you soon again
This is a highly recommended Private tour with a 15/10 from me.... this far outcede my expectations and you can see by the photos.

It was interesting to see the lions, tigers, cheetah & all the other animals. They made all feel welcome. Unfortunately, the play area is a bit broken. Nevertheless, the kids could still play.

The most incredible experience of our lives - the interactive experiences feeding the baby lion then in with the larger Lions and Tigers. They all like their bellies rubbed! It was worth far more than the long drive down from Johannesburg. [UK tourists: January 2016}

I think this hotel has seen better days. The glory days are most definitely gone. It can do with a bit of renovation. Everything is so old, from the towels, to the decor. They can do better. Staff mede up for the above-mentioned shortcomings with their fantastic service. Even the parking lot can do with some refurbishment, the pool area, and the landscaping.

Service at restaurant was pathetic. Actually no service. We waited for the waiter to come back to us after she brings us the menu. When she bring the menu she told us that we were going to have a problem because they can only serve fish and chicken because of the loadsheding they can't prepare other foods. We then waited for about 30 minutes she didn't even come to us and asked if she could bring us something to drink. We then decided to go. We passed her on our way out. She did not even asked us if there were a problem. We won't go back to that restaurant again.

Firstly, the set up on the table lacked creativity, the menu's of the restaurant are like that of an amateur restaurant. Like a flip file with pockets, we were the only people in the establishment at the time but it took 15 minutes for coffee and tea to be served, and when it finally came it was cold..🙄 The service overall was just substandard. The food was nice, they had a proper chef..
The place looks awesome though, clean and neat..

Off the beaten track and onto a 4x4 journey to the top of this hilltop. Bordering Lesotho, the castle is a truly unique experience. We had booked a fantastic 3 course meal for lunch with coffee and a tour. Delicious meal, breathtaking views and awesome place.

Disappointing to say the least. Drove all the way there today only to turn around in front of a locked gate with a notice that you can only visit by appointment. There is a sign that points to where an "office" is supposed to be but it seems like no one is there. Only a quad bike next to a building.
Crazy.
If you look at the gate and road it looks like grasses and weeds are taking over. Obviously not a lot of traffic. Not recommended.

Found JenLees on Google Maps and decided to stop here for an early morning coffee. What a delightful and eccentric place and friendly owner. We were greeted by a friendly doggy and 2 equally friendly cats. The place is brimming with preloved and new goods and goodies, homemade preserves and biscuits etc, as well as fascinating old display goods inside and out, including an old rusted Ford! One can also buy large bags of competitively priced firewood. We sat on the verandah and enjoyed some traditional boere "Moerkoffie en kondensmelk" all made and served with much love whilst enjoying some doggy cuddles from the owners Daksie(sausage dog). We'd highly recommend a stop here for some Moerkoffie and a light breakfast, brunch or lunch. There's also a small "Brandwater" museum here if one is interested in the area's history.

The reception was warm and friendly. The whole place has a rustic feel and is well worth a visit. Lots of things to buy. When we visited today they had such stunning coffee mugs for sale. We also ordered some chocolate cake which was truely a masterpiece. There are also a lot of smaller animals to see. The perfect place to just come to and BREATHE.
Most of the photos below are from the small museum which is a new addition. This is a versatile place which you could pay a visit for anything between an hour and a whole day.

Lovely place to sit down and have a nice cold one. So much choice and so little stomach. Plan to spend a couple of hours to get through most of the beer. I took a case for takeaway. Tasted the Yetti Dubbel and the Stout. Have to say that the stout was the best that I have tasted ever! And I'm not really a stout kind of guy. Food was amazing as well. We had the onion flat bread for starters. Mains we had the italian Job burger, on the roll and the taco trio. No complaints. Service was good as well. Overall great experience.

Decided to pop in at Clarens Brewery to sample some of the local beers. They have 2 different beer tastings at R25 each. A good idea to do this if you’re unsure what to try. We also had their pub lunch of 3x hard shell tacos and fish bites. Very tasty. The service was also very good and informative about the different beers. Definitely worth a stop when in town.

With Clarens Brewery always close to the Guesthouse we stay this always remains a good option for either lunch or dinner depending on the need or maybe the type of atmosphere your looking for. The beer is always cold and enjoyable with the selection being quite big and made by the brewery themselves, not to talk about the beers on the menu!
I also like the way they guide you on the menu to match the food with the beer that will compliment each other!
I highly advise if your in the area to give them a try we do every time!

It's a rustic cosy restaurant with a great drinks menu. Really supports local producers and I love that about them.
I was skeptical about going with my son but it turned out the place accommodates kids. They were playing Mumford and Sons when I was there so that's an extra point from me.

Very disappointed, arrived only to be ignored outside the door, only to then be ignored inside the restaurant for a further 10 minutes as well. Not a single server greeted us and we decided to seat ourselves and after some struggle managed to flag down a server who still didn't greet us. We arrived hungry and looking for a meal as well as a tasting but after the poor reception we decided to only try the tasting which came nevertheless came speedily and was enjoyed but felt neglected which ruined the experience and we left as soon possible to find an alternate place to dine.

When visiting Clarens you can't miss the Brewery, it's iconic in my eyes. I always come back to it, it's a small brewery, but the quality is amazing. I'm into craft beer and I do my own craft beers, but that why I appreciate their effort and flavor profiles.
The food is actually great too.
I always get the beer tasting platter and food platter.
Then when leaving I buy some more for home.

We were a group of 8 that booked for the beer pairing at Clarens Brewery and we arrived excited. Lindsay was our host and she talked us through the various beers and food items and her knowledge, enthiusiam and input took this experience to a hole different level. The prospect of an IPA with a chicken and butternut curry and stout with a chocolate brownie were two of the tatsings that blew me away. Lindsay was willing to discuss and provide input and my choice of ale was based on her recommendation. A must for anyone visiting Clarens

Would most definitely recommend!

Lovely Restaurant at the Lodge, friendly reception and staff. Large property with accommodation which at the time was close for upgrades. We did not do the game drive due to weather and time constraints but this is a large property and ample space for the lions. There are Zebra, Impala and other bucks as well
The view down the mountain from the Lodge is spectacular also.

My wife and I recently spent two nights at Lionsrock. We were warmly welcomed with a very welcome cold drink by Max before being escorted to our room. We so enjoyed the view from our room which looked over the vast expanse of the grass plains of Lionsrock where herds of zebra, waterbuck and impala roam freely. Archie took us on an early morning tour of the Sanctuary where we saw several of the rescued lions and one beautiful leopard. We were deeply moved by the individual stories of the lions and rejoiced that there is a safe haven for them at Lionsrock where every endeavour is made to ensure the best quality of life for each animal. Absolutely worth a visit.

Just an advice for someone using a smaller car ;use the route from Bethlehem even if you are coming from the side of harrismith, rather take the longer route then to be sorry🤐.

What good work Four Paws 🐾🐾 do here at LIONSROCK! Amazing facilities for big cats, incl. Lion, Tigers, Leopards and Cheetahs saved from amongst others circuses and even war zones! Plenty antelope on the game farm, incl. the beautiful Letswe buck. Great service from the staff incl. our expert game ranger, Kwazi. Lovely meals at the modern restaurant - the Chef visited tables making sure his dishes were to customers' satisfaction. Really enjoyed the visit!

We did a sanctuary tour with Kwasi. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, patient and it is clear that he cares for the cats. The stories of the cats are all sad, but you will leave feeling better because at least someone is trying to make the world a better place. Four Paws is an amazing organisation.

Everyone needs to hike here. You realize how grateful we should be for the beauty that exists in the world. Won't ever take that for granted again. I did the Brandwag Buttress trail which is supposed to be an hour. However, give yourself grace if its the first time because its so stunning you will spend most of the time taking pictures and looking at every single angle. The views are gorgeous and heavenly. The Golden Gate Highlands Park is superb. Apart from stunning scenery, the park is in immaculate condition. Golden Gate National Park in South Africa is a breathtakingly scenic park that showcases the natural beauty of the region in a way that is nothing short of phenomenal. From the moment you enter the park, you're greeted with landscapes that seem almost too beautiful to be real. The park's diverse ecosystems and wildlife add to its allure, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers.
One of the park's highlights is the Cathedral hike, an experience I found to be absolutely amazing. The trail offers a perfect blend of challenge and beauty, leading hikers through stunning vistas that are sure to impress. The panoramic views of the park's unique geological formations and the vibrant colors of the flora are unforgettable.
For adventure seekers, taking a swim in the natural pools encountered during the hike is an experience I highly recommend. The pools provide a refreshing and serene escape, perfectly complementing the exhilarating hike. It's a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of South Africa, and it epitomizes the adventurous spirit of the park.

I did the overnight Ribbok trail at Golden gate national park. The park is absolutely beautiful with stunning views. The trail was moderately difficult but the views were well worth the effort. The facilities at the hut are basic, but the hut is well taken care of. We also spotted wildebeest, antelopes, baboons and zebras.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Golden Gate Highlands National Park and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, and I was blown away by the natural beauty of the park.
Despite paying for park entrance, I was surprised that no one checked our tickets. However, this did not detract from my overall experience in any way.
The park was incredibly well-maintained and the facilities were clean and modern. I appreciated the park's commitment to preserving the natural environment and ensuring that visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience.
One of the highlights of my visit was hiking through the park's stunning mountain trails. The views were absolutely stunning and I felt completely immersed in nature. It was an experience that I will never forget.
I would highly recommend visiting the Golden Gate Highlands National Park to anyone who loves the outdoors and appreciates the beauty of nature. It truly is a hidden gem and a must-visit destination for anyone traveling in the area.

Golden Gate National Park has been on my to do list for a number of years now and finally got a chance to visit. What a beautiful, scenic part of the Country. We decided on the Holkrans hiking trail as it was classified as short and suitable for young families. The first 100m or so is strenuous as it is a steep climb however, once you get to the top, it flattens out and is pleasurable. There are two caves to view which are accessed by a set of ladders. Once the caves are visited, be sure to hike a little bit further, there is a great viewing point with two benches were you can stop for a snack. Just be careful of the drop off on the other side as there are no railings. Overall , highly recommended for novice hikers as it is short and scenic.

Personally the park is worth a visit for the hiking trails and views.
The trails are lead to the most beautiful views , the 2 loops are pretty aswell unfortunately didn't see to many animals this time around , however we did se the massive vulture souring in the air not at the hide ( there were no fresh carcasses for feeding ).
The staff members are not ready friendly , felt glad I just had to pay & leave to be honest.

Could certainly be a better visited NP. Maybe a lack of game could be addressed.
Scenery is unlike anywhere else and is stunning in every season of the year. The campsite is wonderful and next to a river. And the vulture hide is worth a visit. If no vultures often there are jackals around.

Our hike on the Wodehouse Peak Trail at Golden Gate Nature Reserve was truly invigorating. The 11.5km loop led us over the mountains, treating us to stunning views of the scenery. It's a challenging walk, so it's best suited for those comfortable with more strenuous hikes. However, the effort is worth it as each step reveals breathtaking landscapes. From majestic peaks to hidden gems, the trail showcases Golden Gate's natural beauty beautifully. If you're up for an adventure amid awe-inspiring surroundings, the Wodehouse Peak Trail is a must-try. Just keep in mind it's a bit of a workout, but the views make it all worthwhile.

Excellent nature experience, multiple hiking. Tree rich, birdlife and breath taking vistas.
Golden Gate National Park emerges as a breathtaking haven, offering a close encounter with nature in its most pristine form. Situated amidst the awe-inspiring vistas leading to Clarens, this tourist attraction boasts spectacular views that rival the beauty of any landscape painting.
What sets Golden Gate National Park apart is its proximity to the Amphitheater of the Drakensberg mountain, also known as the Maloti mountain in Sesotho. This infusion of African allure lends an unparalleled charm to the park, making it a truly unique destination for nature enthusiasts.
A highlight of the park is the Basotho Cultural Village, perched atop a hill overlooking a vast expanse of land. Here, one can witness the pure essence of nature, with early morning moments offering glimpses of various animals grazing in their natural habitat. From springbuck to deer, wilderbeast, and zebra, each sighting is a testament to the park's commitment to preserving its biodiversity.
In essence, Golden Gate National Park offers an immersive experience that allows visitors to forge a deep connection with the natural world. It's a place where African heritage and scenic beauty converge, offering a glimpse into the soul of the continent. For anyone seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of urban life and immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature, Golden Gate National Park is an absolute must-visit destination.

The Basotho Cultural Village is situated in the majestic Golden Gate Highlands National Park.
The staff were warm and welcoming. The guides were busy, but they kindly arranged for another staff member, Steve, to be our guide.
Steve was informative and gave us a comprehensive tour which included a history of the Basotho people. The inhabitants of the village were friendly and gave the tour an authentic feel.
We witnessed the chief arbitrating a court case. We had a consultation with the village healer and taste-tested traditional food and drink. We also learned some Basotho etiquette and basic greeting phrases. We could take pictures and videos of the experience.
The most memorable part of the visit was the musical piece rendered by a duo with accordion and traditional percussion instrument.
The property has hutted accommodation, a conference centre and a restaurant where we enjoyed the most divine scones with tea.
This was well worth the visit. Well done staff of Basotho Cultural Village!

A great open-air museum where the tribal life of the Basotho, the culture and also the architectural development from the 16th to the 20th century and the European influence become comprehensible. The tour, which lasts about 45 minutes, is almost an integral part, otherwise you won't understand much. The staff, who take on different roles such as chief, advisor, medicine man or musician, make the guide's stories come alive.
Recommendation!

Very beautiful atmosphere is so refreshing.. would definitely go again.
Hiking trails lead to these seasonal cascades with 5 drops totaling 948 meters in height.
One of the most amazing views and the most accessible peaks on the escarpment. A hike that can be done up and down with a lunch break in between. Worth every effort.
Just be advised that as of 22-08-2021 the road leading up the mountain to the car park was in a truly shocking condition. Only real 4x4s will make it, an SUV will battle and a car will break.

I've been here twice and this place is one of the most serene breathtaking places that I've been to. Would definitely recommend. The best day hike in South Africa in my opinion and the best one night overnight hike, the sunrise is just spectacular. The chain ladders on the way up is an obstacle worth conquering. This hike is also the easiest way to get onto the Drakensberg escarpment.
A 4x4 is definitely needed but a 4x4 shuttle also runs up the mountain to the start of the hike. Besides that there is an entrance fee to the park and a hiking fee.

A beautiful hike with the most insane scenery. A bit of a tough one but it was all worth it when you get to experience the magnitude of Tugela Falls. There are a number of other water falls at the top of the mountain but be sure to cross the vast open plateau to get to the main attraction. Will definitely be doing that again!

The waterfall itself is nothing spectacular. However, the views that comes with being on top of the waterfall is what makes it such an amazing experience.

Shuttle from hotel or a serious 4x4 required to get to the start of the trail. Very beautiful views. Waterfall is seasonal - went there in september and not a drop of water in sight. Still the views are amazing and trails are a lot of fun.

Hiking to the Tugela Falls is a "To Do" list adventure that should be high on the bucket list.
The chain ladders hike is doable - it's tuff, and scary but I'm a middle aged moderately fit women and I'm só happy that I did not doubt myself.
The mountains are breathtaking! You have to see it to believe it - no words can describe it's magnitude.
I expected a bit more water at the Falls, but it was August and there has been little rain the previous summer
Just go, you'll have no regrets.

Our first hike within the Drakensberg region, and one that will be remembered.
With our VW Tiguan all space rental we tought we would be able to drive towards the parking lot, eventhough the reviews told us a decent 4X4 was needed to do so. Luckily the park guard told us that our car wouldn't be able to do so, because the road/trail towards the parking is one that does need a proper 4x4. That is why we took the shuttle from Witsieshoek Lodge.
The hike itself is very beautiful and took us around 5,5 hours with breaks in between. The views from the waterfall are surreal and wide spread views over the valley are stunning.
The way up we did via the longer loop with the ladders, which is totally doable. The way back via the shorter loop has a very steep slope following a little water way. The decend was filled with lots of rocks.
Definitely worth a hike!
The Hiking fee was 100ZAR pp, shuttle 170ZAR pp (up and down), and the park entrance cost around 70ZAR.
Sander Kaufmann — Google review
Views are stunning and is a definite bucket list item
BUT
The walk itself needs alot of attention.
There are sections of the hike that if you slip you fall down a ravine. These areas look like they used to have safety lines or holds but have long since gone.
The drive to carpark can only be made with a 4x4 or adventurous high riding vehicle.
Worth the trip just be aware of the dangers.

Heaven on earth, did a day hike with a local guide (Thabo +27 68 354 1487) who made the experience even better with how well informed he is about the area. Started at 7:30am and by 1pm we were back.

The most beautiful hike I have ever been on, and I have been on many!
Nevertheless, you should be warned about the condition of the road leading up from the hotel to the Sentinel parking. It is horrendous. We read the reviews before going, but convinced ourselves we could drive up with our SUV. We made it to the top, but not without a lot of bumbing and scraping. On the way back out we had to pack rocks in the deep holes. It is not worth it! Rather go with a high clearance 4 x 4!
They do offer 4 x 4 rides from the hotel to be booked ahead of time and it is R170 pp in one direction.

This place is a hiker's dream. The first 2kms are an incline, but if you're reasonably fit you should be fine. The rest of the way up is reasonably easy although the chain ladder may be challenging. This is a worthwhile hike, and I'd absolutely recommend it.

Tugela Falls is a must for every hiker , beautiful and takes you away from the city to a relaxed and beautiful experience
Tips below
1. Please do train , its a 6 km walk to the top and 6 km back down. To enjoy the hike I suggest you be fit and walk the distance. Remember to train with your backpack on ...
2. If you have friends joining you and scared of heights , get them to practice using a tall ladder , go up and down... its not bad but they must be prepared. Maybe a good idea to rent a safety harness so the experienced hikers can go to the top and keep the safety rope always tight
3. Make sure you have excellent pair of hiking boots and you are comfortable with them
4. Pack some snacks to have on the top and take along rain cover in case it rains
5. Take along swimming shorts as you can dip into the rock pools on top
6. Dont rush , enjoy your time and the environment
7. Plan your day , so start early and take the 4X4 shuttle to the start from the hotel as the road is extremely bad
8. Going down too early you will have to wait for your shuttle
9. Practice to use the outdoors as your open door toilet
10. Be comfortable to walk around 12 km , 6 km only hill climbing and 6 km decent
11. Extremely beautiful and you want to enjoy it so please be FIT
Enjoy

One of the most beautiful views in South Africa must be from the top of the Tugela!
The view at sunrise is just spectacular, with colours changing almost by the minute as the sun rises.
Hiking to the top can be a bit strenuous, a moderate level of fitness is advised, especially with a backpack.
Elevation changes about 600m (I think 🤔) from the car park to the top. Might not sound like much, but you'll feel it if you are not a regular exerciser.
Also not recommended for people with a fear of heights (sounds obvious, but you would be surprised). The chain ladders will stop you right in your tracks.
One thing to note for overnight campers, on the plateau there are almost no shelter to 🚽
You'll have to get creative during the day.

Bucket list hike to the tallest Waterfall in the world via the Sentinal Peak route.
12km return, medium gradient from the parking lot. Stay at Witsieshoek lodge, book a 4x4 transfer, and start early
Massive mountain with cliffs in the shape of an amphitheater, also known for scenic hiking trails.
Mont Aux Sources Peak 3382 m (part of Drakensberg Amphitheatre region). 🧗 🥾 ⛰️🏞️
I did the awesome hiking trail (about 2,5-3 hs + retour) 3 times launching from Sentinel Car Park (coming from Bethlehem, 110 km ) to the famous chain ladders leading at the top (plateau). There you are enjoying stunning views ; the Amphitheatre, the Tugela falls and their sources, enso.....Depending of the season there is snow possible. in any case it´s worth the trouble!!!!!

The weather was such a letdown, BUT it didn't dampen our hiking experience. We covered about 15km for a return trip. The pool, just after the long track of rocks and boulders, beautiful views, which makes dipping into the cold waters worth your while. Magnificent scenic views throughout the trail even as you go into the forest. Love it.

Great hike .. not easy but well worth it .. u can easily cover 19/20 km with return .. the first few kilometers are a gradual incline then you're in the gorge and you're boulder hopping. There is a path on the side of the boulders though which would be a better option for time and the ankles😅. It's easy to miss it though. Be sure to take a swim in the lovely pools in the gorge

Entrance fee to Royal Natal National Park is R50.
This hike is one of the most amazing day hikes in South Africa. This hike begins at Thendele camp in this park. The total distance is a 15km out and back trail. Some people choose to go further into the gorge to get views of the tallest waterfall in the world. The icy pools look amazing and daring people take a dip in some of them. Spectacular views of the amphitheatre can be seen along the hike. The trail meanders up and goes through some forests. Water stops are mostly few and far between (in winter) but there are stops at the beginning and toward the end of the trail. Overall and amazing day hike.
yusuf patel — Google review
This hike ambles along the mountainside slowly gaining in altitude. Before long you find yourself staring at the maginificence of the Drakensberg amphitheatre that wraps around you. The path then dives under the canopy of trees and into a real mountainside forest before emerging again on the other side. All along the route are small streams where you can refill your water bottle from the clear water that flows from the mountain. There is enough parking spots at the start of the route and also access to a river for a dip after the walk. There are normally a car gaurd or two at the start who are not paid and make a living from watching the vehicles.

One of the most spectacular day hikes in the Berg. Quite long for the average person walking, but also a superb trail run if started early in the morning (7-8) before everyone arrives
Scottish John — Google review
The place was well-kept and the ablutions (only at the start of the hike) were stocked. The path was a bit overgrown in places, but still visible. There was quite a bit of forest, but the middle section had no shade at all so it is advisable to do this hike earlier. It is about a 14km round trip with amazing natural pools and boulders, and up a chain ladder (an extra section) there is a stunning view of the Tugela falls.

What a wonderful place for kids & kids-at-heart! We stopped by as a corporate group and had a fantastic experience. We tried the bridge swinging, ziplining, bungee bouncing & target shooting. Comfort zones were left behind and we had a good hit of adrenaline - especially on the bridge swing! The bungee bounce was also a fun and unusual experience, jumping on a trampoline but attached to bungee cords - I even managed a back flip! So much fun and the staff were just excellent. It has a decent coffee shop too & a nice shady place to sit if you are not too keen on the activities or just need a break in-between. Highly recommend - it was a great way to break the ice and bond quickly!

The most beautiful Serene views. We had a great time and the Dam is so clean. Loved the kayaking and look forward to a visit in summer to do more water sports. Thr mountain reserve hikes are worth the effort. Views are exceptional. History is so interesting for younger ones to appreciate.

Peaceful, tranquil and secenic. The Chalets r very basic. Bring ur own bedding, cutlery and crockery as there is very little. Also dishwashing liquid is a must. Bring extra blankets as it gets very cold. There is a shop that sells fire wood.
Naazia Shaik — Google review
The area is stunning, the perfect outdoor environment thats not too far from joburg BUT the chalets are not good, they need major remodeling because you literally need to bring your own everything from bedsheets to plates, as if you were camping but got given an empty house to sleep in, even your own pillows because the ones that they have is rather gross. Is basically just need major interior refurbishment. Perhaps camp there untill they sort their chalets out.

Bring your own cutlery, blankets and pots, buy groceries before you go there or else you will have to go harrismith which is about 20km from Sterkfontein....its for when you want a peaceful weekend, nothing fancy

The place is beautiful. I saw Zebras. The rooms are ok, i thinl its best to do away with the carpets. Staff was very friendly.

The views all round are spectacular! Chalets are basic, some camping sites power supply were not working. Campers’ ablution facilities well maintained, with hot water throughout. Plenty of showers, a lot actually. And even bathtubs to boot! It gets quite cold during the night, even during peak summer - so budget for plenty firewood. Lots of possibilities for hiking and fishing. Some game - mostly boks.

Absolute stunning farm.
What an experience to wake up to lions roaring.
Patrick is an excellent host to guests, with an absolute passion for wildlife, & in particular his lions.🦁
The animals are kept in excellent condition.
I have never seen lions in the wild, or captivity in such good condition.

We just spent 2 nights at the Lion house, and can say it was an amazing experience. Lions were around us all the time. Pat was very welcoming and showed us around, can't say enough about this facility

One of the most special places we have ever been. The lions roaring at night is indescribable amazing. The Lion House has everything you need. You can walk around and see the lions up close. Our neighbour and his 2 ladies were running around and chasing each other. The lions look like they have a good life and get all the need. This is definitely a good stop over for 2 or 3 days.

Absolutly stunning experience. One of the best things you could see in south africa!

Unforgettable experience. I admire the work that Patrick, Suzanne and all helpers carry out daily looking after these beautiful lions with love and compassion. All my life I will remember our stay in the beautiful farmhouse, the relaxing atmosphere, the night drive, the brai, chatting away with family and friends new and old.

It was the best all the lions 🦁 are in great care and our guide told us all different stories about each lion that was rescued
But what I most love about this Place is that it is a Sanctuary so they don't breed and there enclosures are massive 2 hectares each.

This is a magical place, and its hosts are warm, welcoming and interesting. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy spectacular views, huge lawns where kids can run and play to their heart’s content, have braai dinner in great company on top of a hill surrounded by lions and other rescued big cats, and of course, watch lions and their friends all day long if you want. Many many thanks to Line and Andi for their warm welcome. This was our first stop on our first family trip to South Africa and it remains our favorite place.
Jean-Philippe Groleau — Google review
Great initiative to assist Lions in need of rescue. We were welcomed by Andi and given a very informative talk & tour of her facility. Andi shared some interesting stories about her lions and the history of her initiative. Her lions look in amazing condition and are obviously very well looked after. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

We had the opportunity of spending an evening at Love Lions Alive Sanctuary and there are no words to describe our experience. We were made aware of Line and Andi's life works by our colleague Maddie and by watching the passion in Line as she talks about each lion has made me fall absolutely in love with this place and the energy it holds.
Lucy Topping — Google review
What Andi and Line is doing for the lions is just amazing. We are hounored to have had the chance to visit them and see what they do.
Provida Varme — Google review
Absolutely incredible experience. Andi and Line are genuinely the most caring human beings to have existed! If you decide to do the overnight experience please ensure you understand that you are there for the big cats and to learn about them, you are not there to have this glamorous experience. It’s an educational experience, and if you have the guts for it you might be able to volunteer and learn even more. This isn’t a place for someone who does not enjoy the sound of lions roaring through the night, or some bugs, or dusty plates that need a rinse. This is a place for people who want to learn and experience the cats! I am inspired by these amazing people and wish I had more money to donate! Thank you for the life changing experience.

What an amazing place to go camping. The ablution facilities were absolutely spotless, the views magnificent, the water in the dam, super clean and the animals were a sight to behold. I'd recommend anyone to go camping here. If it's peace and tranquility you're looking for, then this is the perfect place to escape to. It's inexpensive to set up camp and stay a few nights. It's worth every cent, getting out of the city and far from the madding crowds.
Riaz Motala — Google review
Short visit on 27 January 2022 to see the dam at full capacity and hopefully enjoy a view of the dam wall while overflowing.
Sadly there did not seem to be access to the dam wall from the road as gates were locked.
Visited the Spionkop Nature Reserve, with the hopes to gain access to a closer view of the dam wall but after speaking to staff at the gate, it sadly did not sound as if there were any hiking trails to view the Dam wall in all its glory.
Nature Reserve is open daily from 6am to 7pm, and they allow day-visitors and campers.

One of the best camping experience we had in a long time. Stuff is great and very friendly. Toilets and shower areas is very clean will definitely recommend this camp site to everyone... see y'all soon.
Jean Strauss — Google review
We had the camp site to our selves and what a show the wild game put on. In the evening the zebra, wilder beast came down to drink as if we were not even there. The ablutions were very well kept. A most enjoyable stay.
Blaine Osler — Google review
The toilet facilities are quite disgusting and an embarrassment to our parks
Anne Lee — Google review
I had a lovely experience at Spioenkop Nature Reserve. The dam is lovely for fishing. There are also wild game such as giraffe, kudu and wildebeest.
Ablution facilities were also clean.
The roads are not tarred and some parts can be quite tricky without a 4x4 vehicle but if you just going to the dam there is no need for a 4x4 vehicle.
yusuf patel — Google review
The roads are in bad condition. I would not recommend taking a drive because the road are over grown with lots of small thorn trees scratching your car.
Trevor Powell — Google review
We went fishing for the day and caught bass, kurper, carp and barbel. Ablutions at day visitors area were clean an functional. Roads bad, mainly due to heavy rains. We also went game viewing and saw 7 varieties.
Robert Jackson — Google review
Beware the road isn't labeled. It's a long off road up a mountain.
Breathing taking, it's an adventure.
When you start fearing you can't see anything keep driving.
At the top of the gate entrance is R35pp and you given a map.
The most breath taking views.
Adventure Awaits!!!
Fatima Gaibee — Google review
Fantastic place for a wild getaway. Campsites are surrounded by wildebeest, zebra, impala, and all manor of wildlife. Ablutions are functional and clean, plenty hot water. Park roads are better suited to suv/bakkies
Carl Schroder — Google review
This has been a family favorite for years, well kept and easily accessible right to the waters edge. Very popular for fishing and boating.
The young lady at the gate was very friendly , welcoming and very helpful . She explained a bit about the trail her directions were clear. We had a good hike from point A till the end. Beautiful view . If you want to visit please ensure you have cash and you're wearing comfortable shoes, sunscreen is a must , camp chairs and water a necessity after the 2 hours walk around .

The historical recollection of the battle is really impressive.
There is a self-guided trail leaflet which provides a brief explanation of events.
Only dirt roads lead directly to the site, making the trip bumpy, but possible in a normal car.
Keven Whitehead — Google review
Incredible history.
Road a bit rough especially after the rain, but we managed it with a Hyundai minibus. You need cash to pay for the entrance.
Abri le Roux — Google review
History is fascinating but the place itself needs some more info and attention.
Matt Alison — Google review
Great experience, just the road thorwards the site isn't suited for lower vehicles. Remember to take cash for entrance at spioenkop
Lourens Kruger — Google review
Haunting site of a hugely significant Boer War Battle. 7.5km sand road from the main road but manageable. Many of the stones on the memorial have had a recent paint job. It's looking good on "The Kop". Easy map to follow which you receive at the gate.
Murray Carter — Google review
Great battlesite, easy path to follow with the map from the gate. The map explains all the main aspects of the battle and gives good insight into the struggles of the British. Very well kept over the many years, lovely to be able to pay respect to those that have fallen. Remember to hold the torch up high.
Joshua Storbeck — Google review
R35 to enter cash only, dirt road more for SUV, 4x4, bakkies or cars with higher ground clearance. Not to say a normal car will not get you there, just slower. Forth the trip up and worth the walk around the battlefield.
Neels Venter — Google review
So much history in one place. This beautiful location was the stage for one of the bloodiest, and ultimately fruitless, encounters between the British and the Boers during the 1900's. The views from the top are stunning, and the monuments tell the story of a battle that was ferocious, bewildering and so tragically pointless. For history buffs and normal travellers alike, a trip up to Spionkop Battelfield is one you will never forget.
Nick Robinson — Google review
The site is well laid out and extremely interesting BUT there was not a single sign pointing there from the main roads so we spent three hours driving around on shocking dirt roads. Even our GPS sent us to two wrong sites before we eventually found it. When I queried it at the gate the attendant just sighed and agreed that Yes there were no signs.
For one of the Boer war major sites I found this very sad.
Vivienne Holtzhausen — Google review
A very interesting visit. The trench the Brits dug was only 40cm deep, and when the mist lifted they lay exposed to the Boers. How important is communication. When General Woodgate succumbed to his wounds, they lost direction and in the end lost the battle. The site is a little overgrown, may be due to the good rains this season.
