We enjoyed two paired wine tastings which were generous in serving and well priced. Customer service was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We highly recommend Van Loveren Wines!

One of the most beautiful places I have been to! I don't drink wine so I wouldn't know much about that but their food was great, the beauty and serenity of this place..! Work chickens scratching in the bushes.. a water stream running through the tables.. Great service.. friendly waitresses.. and their food isn't that expensive!
I will definitely go back!

Went here with a friend who had complimentary tickets for wine tasting and lunch. It was easy to get here using Google maps. From the moment we went in the staff was very sweet and friendly they smiled throughout and spoke to us in a way that made us feel like important guests 😊 Roger took us around and explained the wine process and history of the family legacy in a very calm and understandable way.
We then were presented with a list of options to choose from (wine pairing) we did and the staff went above and beyond to give us more than we asked for haha!
Moving on to lunch the food was divine, compliments to the chef! After that we were still served desert, more drinks Daryll didn't want us to leave I suspect with his outstanding hospitality 😍
Lastly the view!!! The place is very beautiful, a must see💜

Really worth the visit. Good tasting choices with pairing at an affordable rate.
We had lunch at Christinas restaurant, thanks to the chef, excellent tasting seasoned food. Bottles of wine and sparkling wines at very good prices.

My review is more on the order side of things. Our wine club ordered wine on a specia promotion. I received a confirmation of the order even before the last person made up her mind. They had no problem amending our order and adding extra items. I was kept up to date on the status of our order and the wine arrived in good time and in perfect condition. I was pleasantly surprised by their professional efficiency. Good job you guys, bottoms up! 🍷

This is a hidden gem of note. The wine tastings provide for different or a variety of taste bud's. The staff is knowlegable, friendly and acoomodating to requests. The setting offers something for everyone with a relaxing atmosphere.

We've been wanting to experience the Van Loveren Estate for a few years now, but, as they, there is no right time. Today, however, as we arrived at the welcoming gardens and entered the grandeur arrival hall, was just right in every aspect of what we hoped to see. After agreeing to have her photo taken, Florentina graciously took us through the Wine and cheese pairing experience. Recently appointed at front-of-house and spending her entire life on the farm, she has soooo much passion to offer and we enjoyed every bit of the wines on offer and her continous flow of energy and knowledge.
We subsequently stayed for a small lunch at Christina's Bistro, which was just as a surprise. The beautifully manicured gardens and embedded family history can be felt is every breath of the cooling breeze through those age-old trees.
A highly-recommended wine tasting and Bistro experience in the Langeberg region.

Wonderful and historic wine estate. We did the 7.5km eco trail which was beautiful although very challenging shale terrain on the 330m-odd climb. Start early as the heat is unforgiving very quickly so also take plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat - there's little that passes for shade on those slopes.
But the work is worth it. The views are breathtaking and take in the splendour of the Robertson valley.
We had to double back at just after halfway as my wife's shoes weren't up a sharp descent which would be fine with decent footwear.
The shady avenue under eucalyptus trees near the Breede River brings welcome respite from the heat of the day.
Of course, after ones labours are done there's always a credit card burn in the tasting room. In the evening you will appreciate sipping your purchases because you will have added your sweat to the terroir.

The setting amongst trees and jungle type greenery is very unique and beautiful. The staff were friendly and proactive (despite it being busy). The food we had for lunch was delicious, particularly the steak. Prices were also decent.

Great value. Beautiful venue and good service.
Wine pairings are spot on. Lovely deli and to shop olives, balsamic vinegar, nuts and far more.
Christina's Bistro adds to the value the place adds to your experience.
Well protected from the sun under huge trees that also adds to the atmosphere.
Situated within spitting distance of some stunning wine estates, you can almost walk to the next tasting. Bonnievale region is the Chardonnay heaven of the Western Cape.
Definitely, a must stop!

Great spot for a wine tasting or buy some wine. I’m guessing a big name around these parts, as there are many signs with their name on them around.
I bought three bottles at random and all three were excellent, surprisingly excellent in some cases!
Looking back I would’ve liked a tasting, there just wasn’t time. Staff was pretty helpful considering me just walking in and grabbing three bottles.

The most friendly and welcoming staff. The atmosphere was soul calming, and the wine was amazing!!!!

What a lovely wine farm. The gardens are amazing. Love the story behind each tree that was planted for a special event. The restaurant is situated in the garden and your lunch table is tugged away between the plants. It feels like you somewhere in a lush jungle. Love love this place. Well worth a visit. Had a wonderful time, thank you.
Viljoensdrift in Robertson is a popular weekend destination offering a delightful experience. Visitors can create their own picnic from the well-stocked deli, purchase wine from the cellar door, and enjoy an hour-long boat trip along the scenic Breede River. It's advisable to book in advance as the afternoon slots tend to fill up quickly. The estate exudes tranquility while also being lively, especially during summer. Wine enthusiasts can indulge in tastings while waiting for their river cruise.
Make the trip out and make sure to book the river cruise
We shopped in the wonderful deli before setting sail so we were able to enjoy a picnic during our cruise, along with wonderful wine from the estate
Our skipper was amazing and made sure we were comfortable and safe at all times

Boat cruise - 10/10
Picnic basket - 10/10
Wine tasting - 3/10 (the wine was not nice, the staff didn't seem to know what was going on. Couldn't give an accurate discription of the wines).
The tasting and picnic area inside is not ideal as the tables are so close together, the same thing outside.
Would just do the cruise next time.
Ivette de Kock — Google review
We booked a cruise on the Breede River and it was a really pleasant and relaxing experience.
You can buy some food from their Deli and take it on the river cruise.
We also bought some of their wine - really good wines.
Highly recommended!

27 August 2022. We booked for the 1pm slot . The afternoon slots seems to be very popular times as the 2pm slot was fully booked a week in advance. Viljoensdrift is a beautiful place. Peaceful and yet vibrant and I am sure gets hectically busy in summer. The deli is well stocked and for those who like a glass of wine, their range of wines looked impressive. They have wine tasting as well and that seemed quite popular especially if waiting for your time to go on the river. Their meals are well prepared and tasty. The river cruise is fantastic especially if you want to celebrate with a picnic (baskets of which you can fill up at the deli prior to your cruise). All in all a good experience and well worth the drive from Cape Town.
Paule K — Google review
The restaurant is delightful with a good variety of tasty foods. A step inside to pay, so if you are a wheelchair user like myself have a friend assist. Marius who manages the boat trip was awesome & went out if his way to assist me in my motorized wheelchair 👩🦼. Google Maps takes you on a wild goose chase, so look out for an entrance with gables & signage.

Went on the river cruise on the Bree river about 50 mins. Took picnic and wine bought at the deli. Food and wine great, cruise really serene. However people who went on the cruise were dumping their papers in the water. All in all a lovely, entertaining cruise.
Fay Morison — Google review
The river cruise was an awesome experience. Definitely worth it 👌🏻. The deli is well stocked with snacks and drinks to make up a mini picnic to take on the cruise.

Lovely. Absolutely so relaxing and good times well spent together with family or friends
elrich klopper — Google review
I highly recommend the boat ride. The price is good, the views are lovely, the options for the picnic basket are tasty and varied. The staff are all friendly and quick. The only thing was that the wine is nothing special. The muskarpino is delicious and refreshing on a hot summer day, but I wouldn't buy a bottle of any of the others we tasted.
Hannah Kotze Miller — Google review
I must say, its worth a visit.
Love the place.
Service is outstanding
Clean toulet facility
Great Pizzas, love it.
Boat ride was just as overwhelming.
Thank you for hosting my family

We went for the boat cruise and what a calming, relaxing and amazing experience. The wine was also amazing!
Monique Van Zyl — Google review
The boat ride on the river was really enjoyable. However we wanted to do a wine tasting but because the staff member in that area was surly and unpleasant when we bought a few items to take with us on the river we decided to go elsewhere, not wanting to engage with her any further. Sadly we did not get to taste any wines from this vineyard 😔. We have visited 76 vineyards in the Western Cape and this is the first one we've experienced such unfriendliness 😬!

One of the rare spots where public still has direct access to the Breede river in a beautiful setting.
A basic menu, with well prepared and reasonably priced food.
Huge potential for improving on what is already a good experience.
Jeff Rossouw — Google review
Good food, well prepared, and a lovely setting next to the Breeriver.
I'll be back for the Burger.
Such a beautiful estate, vibrant wines and outstanding sommelier. A special place for a picnic - looking forward to doing that the next time.

We popped in for a wine tasting at Springfield while visiting Robertson on a recommendation from our host. I sincerely appreciated the fact that there were as many white wines for me to try as my husband had reds! We have never completed a wine tasting where we enjoyed almost every wine we tasted to such a point that we would purchase the wines, but Springfield is not like other wine farms! We ended up walking away with a purchase of 7 different wines!
Wine tasting is served with complimentary olives which happened to also be one of the best we've ever tasted!
Customer service was exemplary!

This was our favourite wine farm we visited over the Easter weekend. Dog friendly, too. It was awesome to sit next to the dam and have a tasting at our own pace and in private as a personal preference. That being said, we did notice that the farm neglected to cater for the demand over the weekend and we’re understaffed. Understandably, the staff that were present were visibly distressed and impatient/agitated.
Tayla Calcott — Google review
Not to long ago, wine tasting in this valley was free. It changed and I understand this. I have been to Springfield several times in the past and I have never been disappointed. I will always recommend them as a great option. Until today. I state again, I don’t mind paying for a wine tasting but today: the wines were served, glasses plonked before us. Not a single word about the wine was said, no introduction to the farm or anything! After we have tasted the 5 wines and were almost leaving, a lady doing the tastings come to our table and asked how far we were with our tasting. Since we were done, she did not say anything . No apology for not showing up, she did not even try to make up by telling us about the farm… no effort.
Although I have been there before, for 4 of our party, it were their first time visit and they will surely not bring their friends here. On a Saturday in summer, surely you need more than one person to do the tastings ?
It’s a pity. Such a beautiful place and great wines. But I doubt that I will be back for a visit. Rather order online and visit some of the other farms where we had lovely tastings, like Rietvallei and Zandvliet

Lovely wine farm with an excellent selection of wines, great service and an absolutely stunning venue. The red wines are good, their selection of whites is phenomenal. Highly recommended.

Scenic views and incredible wines paired with complementary olives. The wine presentation was spectacular. Thank you for a wonderful experience! Don't leave the Estate without purchasing a bottle of Thunderchild, 100% of the grapes for this blend are grown on the orphanage’s grounds and 100% of the profit is donated to the children. A compelling initiative.

These wines are out of this world. Fabulous service to pair. Highly recommend!!!
Melvi Todd — Google review
Simply fantastic!! An amazing reflection of the quality of wines one can expect from the Robertson Valley. Soft juicy tannins on the reds, delivering exceptional structure and taste or ‘mouthfeel’ in every sip. While the whites deserve a standing ovation - in my opinion at least.
Amazing food wines for the foodies, Miss Lucy begs for seafood, while the Albariño is just mouthwateringly delicious, my wow-factor indeed! The olives deserve a mention too that are served during the tasting 🤤
The farm has a lovely authentic feel while the tasting room staff are friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating.

Exceptional wines! Sadly the service was not the best and with such excellent wines it would have been nice to have a proper tasting, explaining each wine, to do it justice but we just ordered and werr left to our own after a long wait. Either way, the wines blew my mind and we bought several bottles, it is certainly worth a visit.

Our experience at Springfield Estate was exceptional!
The wine tasting was amazing, we were attended by Deneen. Her expertise and friendliness elevated the visit, making it truly memorable.
Beyond the excellent wine tasting, the venue is stunning, offering a pleasant atmosphere and a stunning view of the vineyards while relaxing inside the tasting room. The perfect combination for a memorable experience.
I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a high-quality wine experience.

Interestingly they not part of platters, but theres wines do not disappoint!
The whites are notoriously special. I would also check out their reds. The thunder rock wine is also special as they allocate proceeds to the children’s home.
PS: Complimentary 🫒 olives are amazing!

The estate accommodated us for a wine cellar tour, and it was the best part of the whole day.
They have wonderful wine and we bought a few bottles to take home.
Wine tasting can be enjoyed on the grass with deck chairs. Tastings are generous.

Sat outside. Excellent friendly service. Clean toilets. Delicious coffee. Hadn't stopped there for years. We were so delighted that it's still going and well worth the stop. Thank you.

The coffee was delicious and the service was great, the restaurant and padstal is beautiful and interesting. We did, however, decide not to order any food from here; the menu looked like we would enjoy the variety of options available, but the prices on the menu and on the Deli items were unnecessarily high.

Beautiful place stopped on our way to Hermanus, loved the decor, had lunch in the garden, food delicious, service friendly and efficient. Decor is beautiful mixture of old and new works well, lovely gifts to buy, preserves and wines, grapes are the best! Definitely the place to visit! Veldskoen is located Along the N1.
They stock everything a padstal should have and more.
We were greeted by a lovely lady sitting at the front desk. We spoke for a while about the cold weather.
At the back of the padstal, there is a small coffee shop next to a heartwarming fireplace.
The coffee was good and the bathrooms were clean!
Visiting Veldskoen was a pleasure.

A surprising find but a delicious one. The usual farm stall fair on offer but the magic is in their restaurant, especially the baker. Had a delicious sandwich but I could have that entire loaf. We also especially enjoyed the quaint outside seating area. Craving more of that delicious bread just thinking about it.

Incredible grapes 🍇that are very well known for being the best in the whole region. A great selection of dried fruits, honey 🍯and not to mention a HUGE selection of wine 🍷. Their is a restaurant where you can also sit down for some of the best food in the valley.

I read it somewhere that the place is pet-friendly. That’s not the case, only guide dogs are allowed.
Nestled in Ceres, the Matroosberg Nature Reserve offers a range of activities for outdoor enthusiasts. In winter, the reserve transforms into a snowy wonderland, perfect for skiing, snowboarding, and ice climbing. Other seasonal activities include cherry picking, abseiling, hiking, and mountain biking. The vast reserve features hiking trails that lead to breathtaking views and challenging 4x4 tracks (currently closed due to rain damage).
So much to do. 4x4 track is an awesome challenge and the bass dam is fun! Great farm and loads to do
Monty Montanari — Google review
We went as a big group of 50 for a weekend of hiking. The reserve is massive. There is a trail up to the top which takes around 3.5 hours one way. From there it is possible to continue to the summit with another 2 hours walk. There is a very challenging 4x4 track which meets the walking trail at the top but is closed due to rain damage. On the way you see multiple waterfalls and streams especially after rains. It is worth hiking all the way for the views. If you are lucky you may get some snow on top. The trail is quite dangerous due to stream crossings and slippery paths so best done in a group. The accommodation huts are good. Food at the restaurant is also quite good but the order takes long if there are too many people. The roads inside are all gravel roads which can be tackled with a small car but must be very careful.

Loved my 1st trip to Matroosberg, will definitely not be my last. Lovely way to relax, without a tv but still enough luxuries to be comfy, e.g. electric blankets, awesome fireplace, oven and microwave, etc. The venue also has a heated indoor pool (35 degrees) and putt putt.

Even though the weather man predicted a good chance of snow, we unfortunately did not get to physically touch the snow. Only experienced the snow capped mountains, but nevertheless the experience, the hike, the spectacular views, the cold, the hospitality, the first time chancing... taking out our own 4x4 and getting down n dirty... Or should I say muddy!😁 Was all well worth it! Thank you Matroosberg, Thank you Hannelie🙏 for the warm welcome! Justin....apologies don't know your surname bud...But A Big Thank U for pulling us out of the bogged embankment we slid into with our Landy which we could not get out of without your Awesome Looking Jeep and it's high torqued winch's help! Much appreciated! 🙏
Most of all our four legged dogged friend that stole the hearts of the two women in my life, my wife and daughter!.... Pikkie❤️.... You handsome devil you, you had my ladies in tears when it was time to leave! Hope to see you soon pal!!
Thank you to you all!! Wonderful experience!! 🙏

Just amazing! The reserve includes the highest peak in the Boland at 2250m which sees lots of snow in the winter. ❄🏔
Lots of adventures to be had in all seasons. Lots of accommodation options to choose from as well.
Pre bookings essential now with the pandemic, for day visitors as well.
The 4 x 4 route is technical but rideable. The route might need some management though as you can go up but is supposed to only come down after a certain time. The route is very challenging if you are the first vehicle on virgin snow, please beware.
Erick Oosthuizen — Google review
Loads of snow atop the mountainous region but something can (should) be done to get to the snow...one has to cross multiple streams to get close to the snow atop the mountains but some areas to cross present a high risk to visitors...we experienced an elderly lady who had her foot stuck between the rocks and kids who almost fell into the water due to the slippery rocks...surely a bridge can be built close to the parking lot at the campsite so that visitors can cross the stream unharmed and uninjured...such beautiful scenery but dampened by these risky parts to get to the snow ❄ 😬 And it takes a lot of walking to get to the snow and wished we were informed ahead...some visitors were not able to get to the snow areas due to their fitness levels...not a great experience overall unless there's a complete review of the place and they put measures in place to improve...

A Great place for a family Adventure Breakaway!! You can go hiking, mountain biking, 4x4 Track riding, quadbiking and rock pool swimming. In the winter you might be fortunate enough to experience snow!!
Willem Uys — Google review
This is a very unique place in the sense that you can find snow here in the winters in South Africa. Snow can be found at the top of the mountains, but not very common to touch it and feel it in South Africa. The walk to the spot where snow can be found abundantly isn't a very difficult one and you can even drive your 4x4 there as well.
Parking can be a bit of nightmare after paying the entrance fees and driving for about 3 km on a gravel road, but not impossible as long as you are willing to prak on the grass.
So, this is a very pleasant, family friendly, unique spot to visit on a weekend and very much recommended.

Brilliant, our first time driving out to see the snow, what an awesome experience! Kiosk a little primitive, but who cares, we came for nature, and we had a lovely time driving on muddy jeep tracks through rivers and playing in the snow! Watch the weather during winter for snow days, plan it well, leave early cause you need to be out at 4pm, unless you booked a bed, or brought a tent! Enjoy!

Behold, a paradise awaits. This mountain is absolutely breathtaking with so many hiking routes to offer. My personal favourite is the route that heads into the crevice of the mountain, keep going and it will lead you to a rock pool, swim through that pool and you arrive at a hidden waterfall, there's even a ladder there that allows you to to a small cliff jump. Beware though, the water is freezing!

Breathtaking views and all paths are well signposted. Take enough water and something warm when planning to hike through to McGregor.

Was not as good as our last visit. We arrived, were seated and inform about the music and cover. Was then asked to move after 1 hour as there was a mess up with reservations. Waited till 6:17 when there was still no music and then left. Food was ok but not as good as i remember it. Love this piano bar so will try again.
Located on the outskirts of Worcester, near Cape Town, the Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden is nestled at the base of the Hex River Mountains. It boasts a diverse collection of native succulents and plants, making it an ideal spot to explore and learn about the region's ecology. The garden offers hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels, as well as picnic areas for visitors to relax and enjoy nature.
Great hiking trials, we enjoyed the view of the town and all the plants. Only bad thing, we were there on a Monday, and it was 37 degrees after the walk, but we were told the restaurant was close. Otherwize a must visit for those who love the Karoo. ☀️🌡️

Absolutely beautiful gardens just outside Worcester. There is a nice hiking trail we did followed by a walk through the gardens. Afterwards had a nice beer and something to eat at the restaurant.
Werner Dalziel — Google review
Beautiful and well-maintaned gardens with fantastic views of the mountains. The garden is filled with a wide range of succulents and aloes.
The botanical gardens offer a nursery where you can purchase plants, a picnic spot, a restaurant and a series of hikes. There are three trails you can do: a 1km, 3.4km and 4.7km.
The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. The price per adult is R55 - however, if you only intend to visit the restaurant, you can enter for free, but must show your restaurant receipt upon exit.

Was a big surprise to see how clean and well kept this garden is. Did the Grysbokke trail and the trail is very well marked with beautiful views. Will be back and please keep it so tidy. Well done to the staff

I love the beauty of the Karoo.
A variety of trails are on offer, some as long a 4km.
A short brail trail, perhaps a total 100m in length, is a good addition to the gardens.
Information boards are located along the trails.
We saw many cute little tortoises.
Pack a hat and sun screen.

The weather was terrible when we visited the Karoo Botanical Garden and as a result, it didn’t live up to the wonderful reputation that it has.
Certainly, this place deserves a visit during appropriate weather.
Note: there is a steep entrance fee of R50 ($2.59) per person.
There’s ample parking and the area is well-marked.
It’s much more of an outdoor area to visit so ensure the weather is suited before you go.

Great nature trails with views of Worcester and succulent enjoyment for all ages. The restaurant just reopened and it's ready for you!
Steve Horvath — Google review
It's a peaceful, tranquil, and very well-kept garden, including possibilities for hiking by offering different trails of different lengths and challenges.A very modest fee provides you with a leaflet showing the layout and the walks.
Going there on a sunny day at the beginning of August, we had the place nearly to our own, sharing it mainly with birds to our delight! A wonderful place.
Waltraud Fritz — Google review
What a lovely place. We walked around the botanical garden as there is a lot of paths to follow. There is a lot of beautiful plants and flowers to see. The restaurant was closed, but we want to do some of the hiking trials in the future. Will visit again.
Alwyn Smit — Google review
One of the smaller National Botanical Gardens, but still well worth the visit. The gardens themselves were well kept, and the variety of flora was amazing. Would recommend going in winter when the plants are in bloom. They also have three hiking trails of varying length and difficulty for you to enjoy.
Adrian Kleynhans — Google review
Beautiful landscaped grounds and natural scenery. Loved the plants, even though we visited during winter and mostly weren’t blooming. Hiked the green / blue trail around the property - be prepared for some steep spots and rope-assisted scramble up rocks on green trail.

The Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden is a lovely place to visit to hike and see plenty of nature. The garden is home to a wide variety of succulents and other plants that are native, and it is a great place to learn about the unique ecology of this region.
The garden is also a beautiful place to simply relax and enjoy the outdoors. There are many hiking trails that wind through the garden, and there are also picnic areas. It’s very inexpensive to visit, and is a nice place to spend a few hours exploring.
I highly recommend visiting the Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden. It is a beautiful place that is sure to leave you with a lasting impression.

Had the most amazing time, hot weather , the pool was great, service good and room was clean and tidy. Enjoyed the Casino later the evening and watched the Stormers match the Saturday at the casino pub.The Sun Valley Lodge and Casino surrounded by beautiful nature and mountains. Late afternoon Enjoyed the nature trail and watched the moon rise from behind the mountains. We back in May and trust to enjoy it just as much.

Bathroom had mold and towels were not the quality I'm used to. Bed is VERY uncomfortable if you have a laptop and are sitting. Questionable stains on carpet. Cabinet the fridge is in was in a state of disrepair and hanging off by 1 hinge. Decor is outdated. The TV however is bigger than other hotels I've stayed in and close enough you don't have to strain to watch it from in bed. Not the best hotel in the area and I won't stay there again to be honest.
Nigel Kukard — Google review
Loved staying at this hotel for many many years. However this weekend was such a disappointment the hotel room was not up too standard the bed look like someone just slept in it the presentation was very poor. We struggled to get hold of room service and the vending machine was out of order and couldn't get beverages or snacks after hours. A suggestion for the Casino regarding the closing time maybe they could have extended hours for the people staying in the hotel or make the casino 24hours. On a positive note the food was very nice. Thanks

If you're just looking for a getaway for some quiet time, this is probably it. There are some kids activities like a little play area when it's functioning and then a pool. I'd personally invest more in the entertainment side for all non-gamblers as it'd be a once-off investment for the most part. The rooms need some refreshing and refinement too. For the gamblers though, this is perfect for the price.
Darryn Cerfontyne — Google review
The wait was quite long at the bar even though it was dead quiet. On top of this half of the machines were either out of order or "reserved" by other players who just leave their cards in the slot machines, a practice i believe should be prohibited.
Zak Henning — Google review
Unfortunately în the past years everything went down. The rooms are no longer perfect like the used to be, they need a good revamp. The staff needs training in hospitality and the restaurant needs new management and to stay open at least when the lodge is almost fully booked and you have nowhere to go for dinner except is you want to picnic in the restaurant eating the takeaway ordered from their own kitchen which I found very weird
Florian Nita — Google review
1. The hospitality from the check in point was almost as if we weren’t welcome, and did not want to assist.
2. The staff will talk about you right while you are there, making it blatantly obvious that they’re talking about you.
3. Asking the breakfast manager, if our stay has breakfast included, the lady checked the room number, marks it off and says “yes, and if you’d like any eggs, just call me” - so based on this we’d sit down and start having breakfast. As we’re mid through our breakfast, she’d come to the table to say “I’m sorry, I’ve made a mistake, breakfast is not include, you would have to pay” - now on the basis of okay she made a mistake, I walked over to the desk with her, and she told me it will be R405, considering we just not even a plate of a proper breakfast. - Asked to speak to the manager m, and the manager walks around with not a car in the work, we’re the only people sitting there in the reception area, she walks past and says “I’ll be with you now, I’m just busy” but goes to the front room and starts having a whole conversation, she must’ve thought that we could not understand Afrikaans lol. When we raised the case eventually to her, we asked her name and for the restaurant managers name, to which she refused to give any of their names. To which we will be taking the matter further as your hospitality made it as if you did not want us there.
Would not recommend the Golden Valley Lodge with a front desk manager like that.

Very bad experience at the casino on Saturday the 25th of June. I was walking in smoking section, just checking out the machines and not really looking or concentrating on any people. I was vaping and accidently blew my smoke in an old mans face, not even knowing that i did it because as i said i was not concentrating on the people. The following moment i was hit in the middle of back so hard my whole body went forward. I had a huge fright and my first thought is that maybe it is someone i knew but as i turned around this old man was in my face screaming, because i by accident blew my smoke in his face. Not giving me a chance to speak or apologize. I went to security and they checked the footage, confirming my whole story of what happened. This is where i was very disappointed. They only wanted to give him a warning, what good does that do. The lady, manager of security, was going to speak to her manager and get back to me, but that never happened. It is totally unacceptable for a man to hit a woman, and this is exactly what happened here and nothing happened to him. I will never visit again as i was so upset by the whole thing.....

We had a great experience last week. Thank you Dylan for your outstanding service with the surprise in our room for my friends birthday! You are amazing. Carpet was dirty in our room and the wood rotten under the fridge with the door of the fridge cupboard missing. Other than that room was nice, and well located. Would be nice to be able to lock the door facing casino, from the outside as well. Breakfast was dissapointing. Your chance of winning in the Casino is ten times better than Grand West, what a pleasure!

Waste of money.
No teaspoons in room or at breakfast. Drinks and food come from casino and take about 40 minutes per order and cost R30 per order. Pool dirty, bath water brown, only sabc, etv and 2movie channels, staff attitude stinks. Nothing to do for kids as game centre closed. No shuttle or seperate entrance to Resturant. Service in Resturant non-existant only one waitress, drinks, food, dessert and even just menu took forever. A very limited drinks menu. I was wondering why other guests were talking about getting KFC and going to bottlestore... now I understand.
The room was ok and food too but the entire lodge and service needs an overhaul.
I honestly wish I never went there I literally threw my money away. A relaxing overnight stay became a nightmare.

It was a lovely experience. Stunning scenery and very healthy happy horses. The horses were also well paired to riders suited from absolute beginners to advanced skill level. The owners and facilitators were very friendly and gave good briefing for beginners and a nice introduction of each rider to their horse. As an extreme novice I felt comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed the outride. Will definitely be back and do recommend Horse About Trails.

Absolutely fantastic experience. My girlfriend and I enjoyed a ride with John, who quickly put us at ease with our horses. The horses are well trained and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. This is a must do. I echo the reviews on Tripadvisor for this facility. Horse About also offer private rides, highly recommended if you would like to advance your riding ability or enjoy the trail at your own pace.

Jo and John are superb hosts of this fantastic horse outride experience. John (on Tequila) was patient, informative and very attentive of our capabilities. My daughters (aged 9) and I went on the Witzenberg trail which had a fun section through water, a roudy Troup of baboons and a Blue Crane mating pair. The girls have some riding experience so we could trot for awhile too. Very excited to come back in Deceber for another ride, perhaps ready for the Canter! Thanks for the awesome time on Tata, Kommando and Dom Pedro..

Tulbagh, originally known as Roodezand and later renamed after Dutch Cape Colony Governor Ryk Tulbagh, is a charming town nestled in the "Land van Waveren" mountain basin within the Winelands of South Africa's Western Cape. Surrounded by picturesque mountains, lush wine farms, and scenic farmlands, this historic town offers a tranquil rural atmosphere just 90 minutes away from Cape Town.
Gabrielskloof Wine Estate, located outside Bot River in the Overberg region, is a must-visit destination. The estate features a hilltop restaurant serving delicious South African cuisine and offers olive oil and wine tastings. Visitors praise the superb food, friendly staff, and relaxed atmosphere. The deli provides a variety of breads, cheeses, and fresh foods while the wine selection is impressive. Guests also appreciate the dietary options available on the menu.

I love this wine farm and their rose is the absolute best. I haven't been in a long while, and in the meantime the cheese board has become very meagre and quite boring for the cost. It used to be spectacular but now it is R350 and you get 3 small prices of cheese and 8 slices of charcuterie, and a small scoop of pate. The the bulk of the board is pickled carrots and celery. It was incredibly disappointing.

Beautiful scenery but what a cash grab the restaurant turned out to be. Ordered my son a kiddies burger and was amused to find that mine was the same size. That's two pieces of bread, a small burger patty that was dry and a tiny cup of fries for a R190. Shameful to say the least. Our waitress was very helpful and the service was great.

I have been to Saronsberg Wine Cellar on two occasions, once in 2018 and in 2023. Both of my visits were fabulous. Surrounded by mountains and vineyards, one is immersed by natural beauty. On both visits I found the cottages are well taken care of and clean. The cottages do have AC if needed, and there is also a pool outside. The wines are fantastic and there are cheese platters available for snacking. I also really like how there are art sculptures and pieces nestled all over the winery, with the main gallery being in the wine cellar building. I highly recommend visiting.
Peter Heiberg — Google review
I was very keen to see experience Saronsberg and was sorely disappointed. I felt like I needed to drink just to get through the experience. The cheese platter was served like aeroplane food with a wooden (not even wood though) knife which was ridiculous to try use. I enjoyed watching my mate try slice the cheese which was even more entertaining than the three of us trying to fit at what looked like a Barbie table. The menu, or lack thereof, left a lot to be desired. I left a monetary tip when we left but the best tip I could possibly give them is to improve the experience.

A gorgeously done modern design venue that still felt at home in a natural setting surrounded by rolling lawns, ponds and overlooking the Tulbagh mountains. There was art on display inside. The wine tasting was efficiently conducted with some incredible wines on offer, the range being themed around the earthquake that took place here decades ago. Small cheese platters and nibbles are available. Would definitely recommend!

This is by far the most popular wine Cellar in the valley. We enjoyed a wine tasting and a cheese platter under the large oak trees on the lawn. The setting is beautiful. If you're on your way to Franschhoek and have the time, take this mountain pass to town. The road is gorgeous and not difficult to drive. This is a beautiful drive that one should definitely do on a sunny day to be able to appreciate its beauty to the fullest! I would recommend driving with caution as there are many turns, trucks and an occasional cyclist on the road.

Having not driven the Franschhoek Pass in a long time I immediately grabbed the opportunity when it came up. The pass is about 13 km (give or take) and is slow and winding. Although the driver needs to focus a lot on this route, there are some areas where you can pull over and take in the beautiful views which make it worthwhile. On the one side of the pass you have the town of Franschhoek with the pass looking over it in certain sections, and on the other side you have Theewaterskloof dam which is the largest dam providing water to the City of Cape Town and surrounds. The pass can get very busy and has been closed on numerous occasions in the past because of rock slides, so keep that in mind when planning your trip. Also, something to note is that during winter when it is really cold, the surrounding mountains can be covered in snow which is always special to see.

The Dieu Donné Vineyards Cellar & Tasting Room is a spot that is best described with superlatives. It's definitely one of the best locations for a wine tasting experience. Situated at the very top of Franschhoek, just a little lower than the tree line in the mountains right behind it, it has endless views of the valley below. On a clear day, they extend just as far as the eye can see. This remoteness is part of its appeal. It keeps big crowds away. Sitting on the terrace and sipping a glass of wine will be an experience that I will remember for a long time to come.

I had the privilege to photograph a Wedding Celebration in April 2022 at Dieu Donné and was blown away by the beauty of this venue and the landscapes surrounding the restaurant. This is the perfect option for a more intimate / smaller scale wedding providing you with a cosy indoor set-up and a fire place for winter celebrations. Although there is no onsite accommodation, a vast array of gorgeous options are available in close proximity to the venue. The staff were friendly, helpful and went the extra mile to make the celebration special. This venue also provides the perfect backdrop for the mountain loving couple! I can highly recommend this to anyone considering to host their wedding in Franschhoek.

Small but informative museum documenting the history and influence of about 300 Huguenots who settled in the Western Cape in the 17th century.

A wonderful experience as it was the first time that I have visited the museums as well.
They are well maintained and are very neat.
It is a pity that the fountain in front of the memorial did not have water and the lawn was in a poor state.
Visitors should also look out for electric cables on the ground.
Will encourage people to visit this site.

Very nice place. Well maintained. Only problem was vagrants sitting at monument. Had to pay R100 per person and these guy just jumped the fence. Bit off putting and a danger. Alerted security but they did nothing as I could still see the vagrants when I drove pass 30 minutes later. Other that this small disappointment it was a great experience

Immaculate.
Serves its purpose brilliantly.
Really brings one in touch with a part of the South African history that isn't mentioned enough, but changed the country for the better in so many permanent ways.
Also really made me appreciate my roots more, and made me feel proud of my South Africanness for the first time in a very long while.

Well laid out and informative small museum that you can visit in 10 minutes. They’ve done an interesting job linking the journey of the Huguenots to other migrations and forced displacements in a way I haven’t seen before.
James Dray — Google review
Interesting place. Only complaint is they let a group of German tourists ahead of us to watch the documentary in German, even though they knew we were waiting, and we asked first.
Katie A. — Google review
Really nice museum (especially if you are keen on Protestant/Reformation history) but could be a little more interactive. Removing one star as the staff are completely disinterested in their jobs and just lounge about on their phones.
Clinton and Michelle Mouton — Google review
A very thoroughly detailed and well put together museum given it’s size, lots of interesting information for those interested in the history of the region and/or Huguenot migration.

You will find the Huguenot Memorial Museum at the edge of town, on a beautiful tract of land, in an elegant, classically styled white building. Given the fact that so much of the history of Franschhoek is tied to the settlement of the Huguenots in the region, this is a must-see to those interested of finding out more about the creation and development of the town. Go in the afternoon, but arrive before 4:15 to be able to buy a ticket.
Georges Younes — Google review
It was extremely interesting, especially for me as a history teacher.
I learnt so much more, and it obviously filled gaps, I found out more than what the textbook taught me.
Franschhoek carries much of our history and the fact that it is so good at preserving it for the future, what interests me more.

Zipline course from a mountain platform, accessed by a hike through the surrounding nature reserve.
Definitely in my top 3 Ziplines in SA! Staff are professional and very knowledgeable in the nature reserve. The guides have many years experience in the reserve and it shows. I would highly recommend to anyone even if you have fear of heights. The guides ensure proper processes are followed and puts you so much at ease, allowing you to soak up the beautiful surroundings. Elroy and his team mate gave us a unforgettable experience in the Hottentots Mountains. Kudos 👏 Keep up the great service.

Fantastic adventure filled day, from start to finish. Safety is a priority and allows for a relaxed experience.
Set in the Hottentots Holland Cape Nature Reserve, once you arrive, you just know it's going to be awesome. And it is, from the safety briefing to the African Massage on the open vehicle as you drive deep into the mountains, the incredible guides, and then the 11 breathtaking ziplines, you'll not be sorry. It's worth every cent!

What an experience!! I went with my family and it made for a great outing. Getting to see nature from this point of view is incredible and truly breathtaking! Our tour guides were amazing and added humour to our morning (as well as helping those with a fear of heights get through it). Highly recommend doing this

Wow
February 2023
After gathering at the office, we had a short briefing on what to expect and of course we were shown all the safety instructions.
After the induction we took a 20 to 30 minute trip up into the mountain to the start of the zipline course.
The quality of the equipment that is used/being used is top class and you can see that the rigs and platforms are kept in good condition.
The ziplining is really good fun and was enjoyed thoroughly by all.

What an amazing experience for all ages. We had so much fun and did this with a friend with cancer that wanted to tick this off her bucket list!!!
Weather was brilliant and we went on a sunday.
Take a light jacket with as it gets cold in the mountains something we did not think about.
If you wear glasses make sure to have a neck band so it can't fall if it does no way of getting it back.
In our group we met 2 Americans an Irish couple and they were stuck with 5 crazy south Africans. 😜
The tour guides was great and brilliant with kids ...and scared adults too... 11 zip lines and a bridge over troubled waters as we named it.
Do yourself a favor and GO!
Its worth it!!!!
Thank you guys at cape canopy Grabouw!!!!

If you haven't done this activity, DO IT.
The most spectacular surroundings and the most friendliest and knowledgable staff. 11x well-maintained ziplines in the heart of the most beautiful setting.
The gear is in a very good state and at no point did I feel unsafe.
There is a 1km walk back to the pick-up point omce ylu have experienced all the ziplines. There is wifi onsite, toilets and a coffee/snack bar (no cash, card payments only).

The Franschhoek Motor Museum is a privately owned and operated museum featuring an extensive collection of antique and vintage cars and motorcycles. The museum has over 200 vehicles on display, dating back to the early 1900s. Some of the rarest and most iconic cars in the museum's collection include a Bugatti Type 23, Alfa Romeo Spider, Buick Marquette, Ford Model T and Mercedes-Benz W21.
Beautiful cars, each one with some detail of its history. A few bikes for the bike lovers. Overall very interesting and we had a lovely time as a family. There is a coffee shop as well as a wine and souvenir shop. The only slightly annoying thing was even though you can visit anytime now (Apr 2022) you have to buy your ticket online and then only ride in. We had to park outside the gate ,do the online booking and payment and then we could drive in. But otherwise, it was awesome and staff was friendly.
Chezney Louw — Google review
Amazing museum filled with so much automobile history. Did not expect to find the collection of cars that they have here.
Make sure to book beforehand just to avoid some delays at the gate.
Pieter Mocke (N3M3S1S) — Google review
Lovely setting, amazing cars and motorbikes on display, just a short drive from Cape Town. I do wish you could get around the cars, though, the way it is laid out means you can only see about half of each car because you can only approach from one angle. It would be nice if they were either individually roped off or parked slightly away from the wall, so you could get around them completely for a 360 degree look.

Awesome cars. Some very old cars and some very modern cars. 4 big show rooms that is well air-conditioned in the very hot part of the Franschoek Valley. They, from time to time, offer a free wine tasting as you enter the reception area. Viewing by appointment but if there is space you could just arrive and go in. Recommend you make a appointment.

This was a lovely experience seeing cars from all times in 4 huge rooms. You need to buy your entrance admission in advance, which we quickly did on our phones. I have so many photos, more than I've posted here! If you love older cars, this is a must to see.

I really enjoyed this place. The museum has an amazing car collection. The lineup of restored cars take you on a journey through history, and if you pay a bit extra you can be taken on a ride in one of them. Last but not least, you can catch the complementary bus ride to their wine farm next door and enjoy a glass or 4.

Oh boy . If you are a petrol head and happen to be anywhere around, stop by the museum. Collection is just breathtaking. Bear in mind, cars shown are only a fraction of what the museum has, and all most vehicles are in pristine and working condition (they have 7 full time mechanics working on site) . Ask the very friendly guides and will tell you more about it. Mustang all eras, early bentleys, very first Ford Ts, BMW hangar .

When in the Cape or Cape Province, and you have the time to go to the Franschoek and make a point to visit this gem. For any car enthusiast, this place is remarkable and a must visit. The chances that you will see the same car within 6 months is very slim due to the amount of changes they make and rotating the cars on a regular basis.

A Perfect Start to Our Honeymoon at The Franschhoek Motor Museum!
Our honeymoon began on a high note with a visit to The Franschhoek Motor Museum, and it set the tone for an unforgettable journey. The museum's impeccable upkeep is immediately noticeable, creating a visually stunning atmosphere.
The presentation of the cars is nothing short of artful, showcasing each vehicle with meticulous attention to detail. The staff's friendliness added a welcoming touch, making our experience even more enjoyable.
What truly impressed us was the huge variety of cars on display. The collection is diverse and well-curated, providing a captivating journey through automotive history. The fact that they switch out cars every few months keeps the experience fresh and ensures there's always something new to discover.
Kudos to The Franschhoek Motor Museum for making our visit memorable. Highly recommended for any car enthusiast or anyone looking to kick off a special journey with a touch of automotive elegance!
The Afrikaans Language Monument is a significant historical landmark with obelisks situated on a hill that commemorates the official recognition of Afrikaans as a language. The monument boasts stunning views and features an excellent restaurant that serves delicious food, although currently does not offer alcoholic beverages. It stands as a testament to the achievements and infrastructure built by Afrikaners over the years, which continue to be utilized today.
We decided to have a late lunch at the restaurant at the Monument. The service was good and the food was excellent. I had the chicken pie which turned out to be quite a portion and my wife had the Chicken Schnitzel which she enjoyed and could not finish.
They do not serve any alcohol at present but you are welcome to bring your own with no corkage fee charged.
Really nice place and the view is amazing.

The monument is totally unique. There is tons of education about it and it's right at the top of a hill so the views are unmatched, bringing a whole new appreciation for our country. I'd recommend visiting the coffee shop when there and trying out their wonderful breakfast! The staff assist in English, too (if you're not an Afrikaans speaker like me) When the weather is better, I'll most certainly be back for a picnic.

R40 entrance. There a a small restaurant on the premises.
The concrete monument boasts very interesting architecture and represents history of a language that evolved from Dutch. Lots of picnic spots and a mini hiking trails. They also have a brief wheelchair hiking trail. As I was leaving I saw a tour bus come in, so place can probably get busy depending on when you go.
Different play areas for children.

It's rare to go to a monument that's dedicated to a language. The Afrikaans Language Monument was erected to highlight the pride of a nation that has created a means for its diverse population to communicate in an idiom which is entirely their own. Set on a hill overlooking a majestic valley, with views that extend for miles around, the various shapes of the concrete monument have significance that is best explained by signs, guides and guidebooks.

Go and learn more about how Afrikaans became the best language in the world although it isn't spoken by the most people in the world. Interesting monument with interesting features symbolizing the different parts of the worlds that helped to create our wonderful language. Goog coffee and pizzas available at the restaurant. Come and relax with the many stargazing picnics. Beautiful views of the surrounding farmland. Play area for the kids next to restaurant and huge grass areas next to the monument itself where they can roll down for hours.

Curious place. No one greeted us, so… we wandered back to the bar area to the right. Seemed like only one person was working in the entire place. We ended up having a few taster glasses of nice wines.
I asked to have some olives, but to have olives one must go to the olive tasting room. Can’t have olives in the wine section. I saw an olive and wine combination on the menu, but my mind exploded when I tried to think how that would work.
No bathrooms in the main building. Good wines, nice people.

Great stop.
Outside areas are well shaded with plenty of space for picnics and children.
The only disappointing thing was the olive tasting. This entails going into a separate room that showcases the entire range. You can then taste what you want with a lady providing the needed information. This is awkward and stiff as there is minimal space between people coming in to shop for products and people wanting to taste.
Suggestion - have plates that people can take to their tables. Yes, more dishes and admin but a greater customer experience which can translate into sales.

Such a lovely peaceful place to go and relax. There are fire pits, and picnic tables to enjoy. The olive tasting is absolutely AMAZING at R35 per person. The kiddies play area is also superb. The toilets are very clean a d looked after aswell. We will definitely be back.

Very cozy place with a garden (we found funny with unique shape lemons here). In addition to goats, there are many squirrel 🐿. There is a shop with a large selection of cheeses and other things here.
This winery is famous for its Shiraz. I liked Fairview Pinotage most of all.
A small minus is that the wine tasting takes place standing. But the cost for a tasting of 7 wines with a plate of cheeses is only 50 rand.

It was my first time in Paarl, and the experience was truly unforgettable. The breathtaking views left me in awe. Fair View is a charming and tranquil place that exudes coziness. I had the pleasure of savoring some exceptionally delicious wines and cheeses, making the visit even more delightful. The wine tasting experience was intriguing and added an extra layer of enjoyment to my trip. Although I don't have children, I could see how Fair View would be a perfect destination for families, thanks to the entertaining presence of playful goats. My heartfelt thanks for the wonderful experience!

Excellent Wine Estate 🍷 and Restaurant. Great for lunch. The menu is so diverse. Staff handles crowds well. The goats are cute. Gardens magnificent. I love the variety of cheeses and breads. I have been going there since 1993 with my guests. Bookings are essential because it is,always busy. Toilets are clean. I don't drink wine, but they say it's excellent. Wine tasting is enjoyed by my guests regularly. The history is impressive.

Lovely wine tasting experience and a great shop. Not very much else to do though (in contrast to Spice Route next door). Beautiful gardens and a few goats to look at.

We went on a series of three wine tasting events. Fairview was the first one. This was a wonderful experience. Six different wines with pairing cheeses. Although we are not big cheese fans, in this setup it worked out fine… also the atmosphere and the knowledge of the sommelier contributed to a perfect wine tasting event. Do you like wine 🍷? Than this is a must do… Menekşe & René

Amazing wine farm - we really enjoyed the master tasting. Afterwards we bought some of their amazing wines and cheese 🧀🍷 and fresh bread 🍞 and enjoyed lunch at their restaurant where 2 little 🐿 were running around which was just too cute to see. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.

A lovely setting, with tastings suitable for every age and taste, including children and non-drinkers. The deli is always a delight and the whole experience is very accessible - you do not need to be a sommelier to enjoy Fairview.

Spice Route Destination is a one-stop farm, wine tasting complex, artisan crafts store and mountain bike trail destination in the Paarl Winelands. There are three eateries - Jewells, Barley & Biltong Emporium and La Grapperia - all of which offer unique cuisine and drinks. The attraction is set within beautiful landscapes featuring dramatic views of the Paarl Winelands.
Great place to take out-of-towners! Everything you need to showcase our beautiful city in one place - wine tasting, chocolate tasting, beer tasting, and mouth-watering pizza 🍕
Oh, and the beautiful views of the mountains and the vineyards. Absolutely stunning 😍

There is a lot to do here from wine 🍷 tasting, beer 🍺 tasting to Gin 🍻 tasting to chocolate 🍫 tasting and more !
You need time for this place and a taxi ride home 🏡 unfortunately we didn't try the beer or gin tasting but next time we shall.
A few good looking restaurants from Sushi 🍣 to wood 🔥 oven pizza 🍕 again we unfortunately didn't have time for them.
It's on a hillside but you can see so far and it has absolutely stunning scenery.
You need to make time for this place but it's well worth the time.

A lovely place to visit, very quiet and out of the way. There are a few options available for food, and drinks.
Parking is a bit tight, so if you can get there on a bus or many people in one car.
It gets very busy over the weekends especially around lunch time.

This was an absolutely wonderful experience. We tried everything from the wine tasting to the chocolate tasting, pasta and teas.
We went on a Saturday, so it was fairly busy. However, the location is laid out so well that it does not feel overcrowded.
A definite must visit, we will absolutely be returning!

Quite a fun family outing. Enjoyed the many different things to do there. Settled on having a Gin tasting at Wilderers and then some pizza after. The gluten free pizza was excellent and a pleasant surprise. The staff were quite friendly and helpful, with good service to match. Will most definitely recommend this place as a fun outing. Only criticism is the play park and some of the facilities that are a bit broken and in need of repair / upgrade.

A beautiful complex (estate?) with a beautiful view. The complex holds a few different buildings catered for different tastings. For me the biggest anticipated tasting event was the CBC tasting, but I was quite pleased with the gin tasting. There is also a bistro for when you get hungry.

A stunning weekend destination. It offers a variety of activities, including wine tasting, craft beer, artisanal chocolate, and spice tastings. Stunning scenic views of the Paarl valley and the Simonsberg mountain range. The estate is also home to various restaurants and shops, making it a great place for a culinary and cultural journey. It's a recommended destination for those looking to explore the flavors and culture of the Cape Winelands region. A must visit! You’ll spend a good few hours relaxing and loving every second of it.

Numerous tasting options, including tea, wine, charcuterie, chocolate, gin and beer. One can easily spend a full day there (as opposed to Fairview down the road, which is better for an hour or two). There are a few restaurants (some of which are closed Monday to Wednesday).

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. There's much to see and do.
Moigoeters craft shop is lovely. The assistant was friendly & welcoming.
The lady at Brenda's shop is equally friendly & attentive and there's an amazing variety of spices, jams, teas and other goods that's very appealing & hard to overlook.
We had lunch at La Grapperia Pizza & Bistro. The Ham & Pineapple pizza was delicious but sadly we cannot say the same about the Pork loin chops which was hard, dry and bland.
The barman at the Distillery is very friendly and welcoming.
Overall, a day well-spent. I recommend a visit.

Went out for a birthday celebration and took family from Ireland here for the 1st time. Did chocolate tasting then on to the ice creams then some wine tasting
Also visited the brewery but never did the beer tasting, also gave gin tasting a skip. Unfortunately there is no more glass blowing and shop only open Fri-Sun
Ended up having lunch at the bistro and pizzeria . Tried a few of the German dishes and they were very nice.
The scenery and setting is amazing , my 4th visit and I'll be back

It was okay, I mean, the place is beautiful. The food at the one restaurant was not the best, nor the wine. The pottery painting was also nice, but they had little equipment. I asked for a thin paint brush and they didn't have at all so I couldn't do the design I wanted. I expected a lot more from the experience as a whole. It's also difficult to navigate your way around the place, there are a lot of dead ends.
The views are beautiful though. But I wouldn't go again, personal opinion🤷♀️.

A visit to Spice Route is an enchanting experience, offering an array of delightful tastings that promise an exceptional day out. As a passionate enthusiast of beer tastings, I found the brewery's offerings to be a veritable paradise for my taste buds. The diverse range of brews, each with its unique character and notes, provided a captivating exploration of the craft.
Conversely, my wife found her joy in the elegant world of spirits and chocolate tastings. The combination of fine spirits and decadent chocolates made for an exquisite pairing that left her in awe of the intricate flavors and textures.
However, Spice Route isn't merely a haven for tasting adventures; it's also home to La Grapperia Pizza & Bistro, an establishment where dining becomes an art. My personal favorite, the Eisbein, is an epitome of culinary excellence. Its succulent, tender meat with crispy, flavorful skin is unparalleled, making it a true standout. I wholeheartedly assert that no other place can rival its exquisite taste.
Spice Route, beyond its culinary and libation offerings, is an idyllic setting for a day out, whether with your loved ones or friends. The picturesque surroundings and the warm, welcoming ambiance create a perfect backdrop for memorable moments. The rolling vineyards and panoramic views only enhance the overall experience, making it a destination to savor and cherish.
In summation, a visit to Spice Route is a multi-faceted delight for those seeking a day of exploration and indulgence. From beer and spirits tastings to extraordinary dining experiences, it's a place where the senses are enraptured, and where you can escape the everyday, be it with loved ones or friends.

My first visit was brief, but a great experience - was there for our company lunch, in December 2023. Decided to take my family there in March 2024. It was an amazing experience and a pleasure to support the local businesses there and interact with the friendly staff. It's a relaxing environment with picturesque scenery. Many things to do. Recreational facilities for kids too. One visit is not enough to enjoy everything they have to offer. I'll be back. - Bradley Lewis

Stunning and peaceful to browse the little shops nestled between giant, centuries old, English Oak trees. Had lunch at Jewell's; food was good, but the apple pie was served cold and with only a spoon, making it difficult to slice.
Service was friendly and fast.

There’s so much to do for the entire family, and you can spend the entire day trying to partake in all they have to offer. My favorite was the chocolate store, I found so many of my favorite chocolate to take with me. We all enjoyed the wine tasting, and pairings, but didn’t have time to partake in art painting activities, and enough time to sit down for a late lunch and enjoyed the charcuterie boards, breads, and excellent lunch menu, the steak was slightly overcooked but enjoyed the salmon, duck and chicken.

Babylonstoren is a luxurious spa that offers guests treatments such as massage, facials, and beauty services. The farm is located in a lush forest and has beautiful gardens that make for a perfect outing. Staff are professional and friendly, making it a great place to relax. Although the spa lacks a certain something special or magical to make it 5 stars, it is still very close.
If you like gardens this is a great expert’s event. We did a 1.5h tour that put us in a good place to walk around more on our own. Food options are good from the coffee shop at the top to tables at Bable and The Bakery in the evening. Service tends to be slow in the restaurants.

Fab visit to this incredible farm. They really have put do much thought, time & attention to detail. The gardens are not just beautifully attended but educational. The shops selling coffee & essential oils where you can make your own Bath salts..stunning. The only slightly let down was the wine tasting experience. Our waiter was distracted with us having to constantly remind him our choice of wine tasting packages. The express one really not worth it if you enjoy wine tasting...go for the more expensive options!! The food platter was delicous when it came..service was slow but then they were extremely busy. It's a must visit you can easily spend a few hours there.

Heard such amazing things about this hotel and spa and decided to go for a massage. It was raining and on arrival to the lobby we weren’t provided umbrellas and ended up walking 15min outside in the rain to the spa. I was soaked when I got to the spa and in no mood to get a massage - I’m not sure why simple things like providing an umbrella isn’t done at a place like this - I will never return and just poor service.

Decided to surprise and spoil my wife (qualified and certified massage therapist) with an early birthday gift and book her a spa treatment. Appointment was for 11am to be called at 09.49 while driving (never took call) and upon arrival informed the massage booked is no longer available due to a water shortage. Then they got the booking incorrect and had to change the selection at reception. The quality of the massage was more of a rub after what was requested (mixture of firm and deep tissue) and a very unhappy wife. During the massage the maintenance team decided to add making a noise outside with leaf blowers and the cold aircon blew on her throughout. It's not about the money, but when you pay a premium rate one expects premium treatment and yesterday was certainly not the case at all. Unhappy couple.

A whole day wasn’t long enough to take it all in. Beautiful gardens full of interesting plants and a few animals too. I did find the food just a little expensive compared to other gardens I visited on my trip, especially when you factor in the entrance fee.

Babylonstoren has so much to offer. It is more than a farm. They have a restaurant, store, fruit garden, cycad garden, arid garden, canals, childrens play area, flowers everywhere and so much more. You can easily wonder around for hours. We went in spring so the fruit were not ready for picking and the grapes were still young. I would suggest the best time to go is in summer. You will see all sorts of fruit on trees including bunches of grapes hanging from overhead trellises and flowers galore. It would be an excellent venue for weddings or parties. I loved it.

This farm is one for the books! There was the most interactive museum of the history of wine and the farm was filled with all sorts of fruit you can pick and sights you can cherish . They had a massive range of bonsai trees, which was amazing, the oldest one was 87 years old.

Hard to put this place into words. If you're in the Western Cape and want a peaceful, calming, healthy retreat highly recommend the Babylonstoren Spa. It's stunningly beautiful and tranquil.
Claire Freedman — Google review
My reservation experience with Babylonstoren Spa was abysmal. I was offered space for myself and my two friends via email and called them less than an hour later only to be told there were only two spots. I explained that we wanted a spa day together, but was told the space was given away.
I asked to be alerted should a space open up. I gave them my local phone number, but instead got an email saying a space had opened up and rather than booking it, they asked if I wanted it! This was after being so upset and speaking to the manager about my negative experience. They need to fix the way they handle their reservations or they are going to have pissed off, stressed clients coming-in (like me). Not what you want in a spa experience.
I have been to the spa before and had a mediocre massage. The facilities are nice, but the customer service is not what you would expect, especially for a hotel in South Africa that charges $1000/nt/

Have been visiting the Spa for years. Let me firstly say that my therapist Edwina is fantastic and I highly recommend her. However, other aspects of the experience seems to have declined. Firstly, there were no slippers (apparently out of stock! never heard this before!), I have been there many times but now suddenly had to fill out a client form. Staff at reception had no idea of the restaurant opening days and times. I wanted to order a cappuccino after my treatment, the ladies were so confused as to how to process this request, eventually called a waitress, she took the order and then came back to say that there are no milk alternatives available (I wanted oat or almond milk). The ladies at the reception of the spa need proper training. Since it is a 5-star establishment, with prices to match, one expects a 5-star experience. Please fix this up, would like to continue visiting.

Located in Somerset West, Vergelegen Wine Estate is an expansive and luxurious wine estate with lovely gardens and a restaurant. The winery offers tastings for guests (including the Queen of England), as well as garden tours that start at 9:30am.
We hosted my daughter's baby shower

From when we arrived we only received the best service from Stephanie, the manageress and Tyler, the waiter. So was everything we experienced and enjoyed there. A lovely day at this wine Estate. The estate offers 2 restaurants and a tea garden. Today we visited the tea garden and got the feeling of a real English high tea. A beautiful place with fine cutlery and amazing choices of tea, coffee, cakes, scones etc. We tried the scone with jam and it was perfect. Breaking in the middle with locally made jam. Certainly worth the trip. Next time we will try one of the restaurants. Be sure to book as they seem to be fully booked most of the time. Walk-ins might be disappointed not getting a table.

Cheetah Outreach is a conservation center for cheetahs and other predators, with educational programs and animal encounters. The sanctuary is well kept and the staff are friendly. It's never crazy busy, so it's a good place to keep you busy for an hour or so. There's a little souvenir shop with quite a variety of different gifts.
Unique experience, very well run facility with focus on conservation. We booked a VIP private interaction and it was amazing to have such a close encounter with a cheetah! The guides explained everything clearly, and were very good at assisting during the interaction. Funds from the centre go towards cheetah conservation through a livestock guarding dog project. Well worth a visit!

Very clean, well kept wild animal sanctuary. The kids enjoyed walking around and trying to spot the animals. It's not very big, but the staff are friendly and the tour is interesting. It's never crazy busy and you even have the option of petting the Cheetahs if you buy the Cheetah encounter tickets. Nice place to keep you busy for an hour or so. Nice little souvenir shop with quite a variety of different gifts.

Great outing to this little gem. Place needs more people to come through the gates. Mainly volunteers from Europe giving of there time to raise awareness of the plight. Beautiful animals that you can interact with as well
Sean Gouws (SeanG) — Google review
The people there are very friendly and if you ask, they will tell you a lot about their program and their animals.
But the place is not really nice. Just some simple cages and a few animals. It's not really made to display the animals, just to house them. The place is small and if you're not lucky enough to get a tour with a talkative enough employee, you are done with your visit after 10-15 minutes.
Unless, of course, you book an encounter with one of the animals. But even that is happening in a cage that is very plain. Other cages all around. No great scenery. Yes, you get your picture with that cheetah and you can touch it, but somehow the whole thing doesn't feel very customer oriented. It's OK, because they are a preservation project, but it could be much more interesting, engaging and enjoyable if it were not so very basic.
At least, R10 is a very small price and if you are in the area anyway, it is worth a visit.

Loved this place. Was recommended by a customer who uses our cattery in Ireland and was so delighted to have the opportunity to have an experience with the cheetahs. We also got to see the feeding of all the animals. The staff were lovely and so knowledgeable. Would highly recommend a visit and the money is well worth going to such a wonderful charity

Before deciding to visit the Cheetah Outreach, I did lots of research on places that allow people to interact with the animals. I’m very careful to not support places that abuse animals, just trying to make profit and just not ethical. I found the cheetah outreach to be the only place that was ethical with a goal in mind. Their goal is to inform and educate farmers to use other ways to protect their livestock from cheetahs rather than use lethal ways. Cheetah Outreach even breeds livestock protective dogs for the farmers.
We chose to do an experience to pet one, and no the cheetah is not drugged or controlled in anyway to stay. He even gave us a little purr while we pet him.
The staff were all very knowledgeable and we learned so much. I would highly recommend for people and families who can have well behaved children. 😊
Alyssa Lynne Photography — Google review
Sadly I was hoping for better based on all the other reviews!
Firstly the guy who gave us the guide of the smaller “cats” spoke really fast and just blazed through it. It was also really hard to understand him most of the time.
It is run my mainly volunteers which i have no issues with, however, when it came to the safety briefing for the Cheetah interaction, Ronald spoke fairly fast and missed out on a few things like removing sunglasses/hats and putting bags in the cubby.
When we ask he said he thought the other guy old us. I didn’t feel as if I personally was briefed well to go in which lead to me being a little nervous.
My husband in the other hand said he felt as though knew what to except and also agreed that the removed hats etc was not mentioned.
Overall was a decent experience.
Rebecca — Google review
Underwhelming experience. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable but there’s really not much to do or see. They have 7 cheetahs. The “cheetah encounter is simply just a photo-op where you get to see one up close while on a leash.
I appreciate the great work they’re going to protect the animals from extinction and this is a great organisation but not a great attraction at all for visitors.
They also charge you extra for paying with a card. This extra fee also seems to be made up on the spot. We were told 3% extra but others were charged up to 7% which is interesting because they use YOCO card machines which charge 2.6% - 2.95% per transaction according to their website.
Terry Muyambo — Google review
Lovely place which is focused on promoting cheetah conservation through a shepherd dog program. All profits go towards providing dogs to farmers which in turn prevents cheetahs from being shot by farmers to protect their livestock. A great place!! Has a variety of animals for visitors to see.

We also took the Cheetah Encounter tickets. Again It was a good experience. You can feel, touch and see the cheetah under supervision.
I regret not to ask for a small video.
Otherwise it is recommended place. They also run some animal conservation program.
P.S.If you are looking for discount then you can use FNB entertainer (if you have FNB account)

Great experience. You can adopt an animal as well. On this day we didn't get to see the Cheetah's as they were all lazing in the shade. There are paid for experiences where you can touch a cheetah and watch them feed the animals.

They are doing great work!! I encourage you to read about what they do and about the Anatolian shepard dogs. You will have a greater appreciation for the Cheetah Outreach Trust. We paid R5 per person to enter (on a public holiday). We also saw Grace the beautiful Caracal, bat-eared foxes, tortoises, a fox, a meerkat, and the Anatolian dogs. I do recommend booking in advance if you are planning to do a cheetah encounter (which I hope is safe and in the best interest of the cheetahs!). We only walked around the premises so we did not have to wait long to buy our tickets and enter.

A wonderful experience with the cheetahs! A fantastic initiative, so impressed that there is NO cheetah breeding programme and farmers are being educated about the pros of having their stock protected by an Anatolian sheepdog. The
guides were very informative.

Amazing facility. Guides could give more a bit more info but they do ask the public if they have questions. It's a lovely experience and the animals seem happy and content.

We enjoyed our visit immensely. We touch and enjoyed patting cheetah,my 5 yr son was so excited and had a chance to feel and touch cheetah under supervision. we spend 10-15 mintues.A staff has taken more pictures and videos of our time with the Cheetah .
The handlers were knowledgeable and respectful of the animals, giving advice on what to do and what not to do to make the experience pleasant for the animal. Also we got to see feeding cheetahs. Their main goal is to saving the cheetah .
There are some other animals meerkats, tortoises, livestock gaurding shepard dog.
The entry fee is R5 per person
and for cheetah encounter R 170 per adult / R 120 per child
we loved the experience. Go if you can!

Visited Cheetah Outreach in January and was once again very impressed with the facility, knowledge of the staff, commitment of the staff and friendliness. We booked a Cheetah Encounter and feeding tour. Well worth the fee paid.
For those who are interested in gaining a better understanding of the feeding habits of Cheetah's and the other animals kept at Cheetah Outreach I would highly recommend that you book a feeding tour. In addition you will also see all the animals as they come out for the feeding.
Well done to all the staff (including the volunteers).
As a suggestion you could approach more corporates to sponsor your outreach program, I am pretty sure you will gain traction with the corporates.

The Eagle Encounters Wildlife Refuge is a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation center that offers help to injured, abused or hand-reared birds of prey. Once they are healthy and able to hunt and breed they are released back into the wild.
Best experience ever! What a hidden gem. The birds are absolutely gorgeous and well cared for. We joined them for 2 interactive bird shows and it was both entertaining and educational. The handlers were super friendly and informative. I'll definitely recommend it to all my friends and family.

A fun experience though I wished there were bigger birds of prey on show. There's wide, open space for the kids to run around and admire the bird sanctuary, as well as a lovely petting area. Will definitely go again!

On a lovely, sunlit day, we made the decision to explore Eagle Encounters. This place offers an affordable and delightful experience for bird enthusiasts, especially those who appreciate eagles, vultures, owls, and hawks. It's truly a must-visit.
The guides here are not only attentive but incredibly knowledgeable, providing valuable insights into all the birds and reptiles in their care. You can enjoy a fantastic flying show and even have personal interactions with some of the owls and hawks, making it an interactive and engaging experience.
With a great outdoor atmosphere and stunning views amidst the Winelands, Eagle Encounters is undeniably a fantastic destination to explore. What's even better is that it's an affordable outing. I wholeheartedly encourage you to support them in their admirable mission of rescuing and rehabilitating these magnificent creatures.

What a great time.
The staff are friendly & have a great relationship with the animals. It was amazing seeing all of the various raptors & having a chance to interact with them.
The kids are now very passionate about nature conservation ❤️
They really seem to be making a big difference in the community & in educating the public.
You'll find them inside the beautiful Spier Wine farm - so it is a worthwhile trip. A must visit.

This is a must see for anyone, it doesn't matter if you are a family or just someone who loves animals or birds.
The staff are great and were so informative, part of the entrance also includes a show which is fun and entertaining while educating us of the birds within the sanctuary.
Its nice to talk to the staff about the rehabilitation process and some of the stories about the birds and wildlife.
If you are daring enough you can also get into the cage with an eagle and its a once in a lifetime opportunity to be up close with the magnificent creatures

Simply amazing!!! Spent several hours walking around and watching the demonstrations. Staff was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and shared a lot of interesting information. Make sure you see the 2pm/14:00 showing, the owl flies from guest to guest.
They have free interactions with foxes, a paid (very small fee) one with a beautiful eagle. Many of the birds you are allowed to pet. Literally one of the best days. Definitely support this non-profit rescue!

Wonderful venue and experience for the whole family! Excellent facilities, great food\coffee\wines and the close-up and personal encounter with owls, eagles, vultures and other animals is unforgettable! Friendly and efficient staff, plenty of parking and lots of interesting activities. Very highly recommended.

One of my favourite places and I can't believe I hadn't left a review til now. Eagle Encounters does such important work in the rescue and rehabilitation of birds and other animals. Their shows are extremely educational, explaining how different kinds of birds make use of their unique traits.
They also help create awareness of the various threats these birds face, and how we could make a difference.
I've been a regular visitor for about 6 years, and I still learn something new each time I go there.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Eagle Encounters at Spier, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! Nestled within the picturesque surroundings of Spier Wine Farm, this incredible facility offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers, especially those with a keen interest in birds and reptiles.
The sheer variety of bird species at Eagle Encounters is truly impressive. From majestic eagles and owls to colorful snakes, there's an avian wonder around every corner. The knowledgeable and passionate staff are always ready to answer questions and provide fascinating insights about each species, their behaviors, and their habitats. It was a pleasure to witness their dedication and genuine love for these magnificent creatures.
One of the highlights of my visit was the interactive experiences offered at Eagle Encounters. The opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the birds and reptiles was truly remarkable. I had the chance to hold a beautiful barn owl and eagle.
I wholeheartedly recommend Eagle Encounters at Spier to anyone seeking an unforgettable experience filled with wonder, education, and a deep connection with nature. Prepare to be amazed, inspired, and leave with a renewed commitment to protect and cherish our feathered and scaly friends.

Spier Wine Farm, R310 Baden Powell Dr, Lynedoch, Stellenbosch, 7603, South Africa
The Spier Hotel is a luxurious and upmarket lodging on a winery in Stellenbosch. It offers refined rooms, breakfast, six pools, as well as a bar. The access to the room was good but if it was raining then it might be difficult to get to the room. The wine tasting, bakery, craft shop and restaurant were all fun experiences.
This beautiful wine farm has perfected the experience of wine and dining for families. There is no other wine farm that allows parents to partake in the wonderful culture that is wine alongside children. The service is great we enjoyed a regular wine tasting and a wine and chocolate pairing. We have found some new favourites and enjoyed the river walk after the tasting. The tastings are between R60-100 and bottles of wine range in price according to which selection you choose from. The saying is indeed true- wine tastes that much better on the farm.

We just spent the most relaxing day lounging at the Spier hotel sparkling pool with a delicious platter and some wine after experiencing the most amazing and relaxing massage at their Spa. Awesome service. Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful and tranquil setting. Will definitely be back for a repeat experience.

We stayed 6 nights and feedback as follows:
The room was spacious and had enough packing place for everything also had a nice little veranda to spent some time outside.
All the extras such as the Spa, the Spier Cafe and picnic area, the art's and crafts ws top class.
My only complaint would be the lack of variety on the restaurant menu as it is the same all the time and very limited.
In room dining truly not the best again limited and not to tasty burgers.
But would still say a very nice stay.
Noeleen Reyneke — Google review
Spent 2 nights staying here as a family of 4. Very nice place to relax but is slightly commercial rather than the real wine farm experience, which we've had on other farms in this region. We did the wine tasting, and it was very informative and some really nice wines which we bought and will possibly buy more in the future through the wine export account you can set up. I will say, though, that if you can take your wine home with you, it is a lot cheaper. In fact, I was a bit shocked at the overall price to get wine delivered door to door.
The food and service are very good during mealtimes, but I did find that sometimes the service at breakfast was very slow to clean tables or get you a coffee. The buffet breakfast is very good with something to suit everyone as 3 of the 4 of us are vegetarian, and this was very well catered for both in evenings and breakfast.
The hotel rooms are showing signs of age now. While still comfortable, they do look well worn and in need of a face lift. The noise levels at night with people going up to bed on the concrete stairs and the very echoing sound due to the design of the buildings were surprisingly very loud. As a dad of 2 kids I know how noisy kids can be but we never needed to set an alarm because we knew the kids above and to the side of us will have us up from early morning.
The grounds of this farm estate are lovely to chill out on or take a nice relaxing stroll. There is plenty of place to hide from those noisy kids.
Overall, this was a very nice place to stay and eat and would recommend a stay here.

We visited Spier twice and loved it every time. The property is absolutely gorgeous, clean, and well kept. We have nothing but words of appreciation and thanks to everyone working there. This review is very late as our trip happened when SA borders were closed due to the discovery of the omicron variant. The staff did everything possible to support us and offered a generous discount for us to stay additional nights as we were unable to return home.
The place is amazing and the breakfast is out of this world: a wide selection for everyone and every diet.
Thank you.

Lobby, restaurant, whole property areas are set very beautifully.
There are many grass fields kids can play, and two smaller soccer goals kids can play soccer.
Breakfast was very good.
Very family friendly hotel.
< - >
The room was very simple and not good as much as how we expected from
the impression of the rest of the property.
Our room (517) was at the first floor and could only see a part of a small swimming pool and very dark inside. We paid 250 Euro/ night (2 adults + 1 Child) and felt it was over priced.
The toilet & bathroom had very strong urine smell and sometime we could smell also inside room.

I love Spier but honestly can't say the same about the Spier hotel.
Bad service and no response.
Received a strange look and answer when we arrived 40 minutes before closing time at the hotel restaurant the evening.
Clearly visible that they didn't really wanted to seat us. Sat us down at a dirty table right at the door with staff coming in and out slamming the door against our table every single time.
Even though I understand that it was raining a lot the roof inside just before the rest room leaked meaning everything was wet. Water dripping into luggage bags.
We called twice in the morning when we wanted to have breakfast and then check out for our luggage to be picked up.
Waited another 20minutes and eventually walked to our car leaving for the airport. Dragging all luggage along with us....?
Not being able to have breakfast due to the time delay!!!
Arriving at the front desk with porters sitting chatting to one another and all passenger golf buggies standing at the front.
Very dissatisfied as Spier is such an Internationally advertised Estate in Stellenbosch
Expected much higher standards.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Spier Hotel and overall I had a postive experience. The setting had a calming and tranquil feel to it.
There is a lot of greenery which is very family friendly where the kids enjoyed themselves. The interior is left to be desired, don't get me wrong the rooms and dining areas are standard and decent but compared to the exterior which is beautiful it does not compete.
I really enjoyed the food. Compliments to the chef
And last but not least the staff were very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. They went the extra mile even when they didn't have to. I really had good experience because of them.
100% would recommend

I haven't been at the hotel itself, I just had a brief stroll through the place as I haven't been there for a while after the place was revamped. Went there on a Sunday afternoon, place was almost dead, there was a few people enjoying a picnic on the grass area between the 2 restaurants but the rest of the place was very quiet, maybe I went at the wrong time but surely it used to be packed especially on a Sunday before the revamp.
Granville Liberty — Google review
Our review of Spier is that it has 4/5 star potential, but we had 3/5 star issues.
On the positive side: the art throughout is stunning, the gardens are beautiful, Spier seems socially and environmentally conscious (other than the single use coffee pods!), the wine is nice, and Kimberly the manager was a great, lovely professional.
On the negative side: it’s overrun with kids! Loud children everywhere, bouncing balls in the dining room, climbing on seats, disturbing the peace – even in the wine tasting room. If you’re a family, you’ll probably like it. But they sold us a “romance package” and the entire experience was far from romantic – do not book Spier as a couple looking for down time. Our other main complaint is the false advertising on the website: the Signature Riverside Terrace Rooms have zero view of the river or mountains, despite the higher price. And from only a small part of the patio does the wine tasting room have a mountain view, despite the website saying “spectacular mountain views” – just tone down the language, Spier. Otherwise, we had a couple of housekeeping issues, the food was average, and in the ground floor room we could hear every footstep above us. If Spier can address some of these challenges, it would be a decent 4/5 star destination for families.
In short: a more intimate accommodation like Boschendal was far better.
Kevin Brown — Google review
Estate is lovely, rooms are nice, lots to do, wine tasting is great and lovely children day care!! However, personel in reception and restaurant is simply not good enough, most of then try but just have insufficient work ethic or understanding of what kind of service applies for accomodation of 300-400 euro per night (we stayed in a suite and a luxury room). We had issues with (1) booking (upgrading, had to message/call 3 times and eventually speak to manager to get it done), (2) changing rooms (we had to come by 4 times to make it work to change without having a room for half a day (we have kids that needed afternoon nappies) until we proposed that they give us the room they is cleaned first (or the room that had early check out for a flight or so) and let us check out an hour later, (3) restaurant personel is the worst - slow, not understanding service, quality, or thinking by themselves, (4) had to call several times for children beds to be prepared and still was not done when we arrived back after diner when kids needed to go to bed, (5) taking 30 minutes to prepare veggies for baby and then putting salt in it while we have specifically asked without salt (which they should know in the first place), (6) dirty baby chairs from night before or taking 5 minutes to get 1 with food on the table (where again we had to ask for it), 6) early check out breakfast package was not there when we were in rush to leave for flight back while booked and double checked night before. There is more of such little but time consuming and annoying things, but really for 300-400 euro per night this should not happen. Actually it's a sh it show!

Beautiful estate and some elements were truly excellent. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are spacious and comfortable.
The service however was exceptionally poor, except for the woman who ran our wine tasting who was a delight. On our first night we sat at 8:30 for our meal and at 11:10pm we’re still waiting for dessert. Our drinks took longer than our starters and the waitress had to keep checking orders which was frustrating. When we gave up on waiting for our food we were chased down by the waitress to sign for drinks and re check what we ordered. We were a party of 10 so we didn’t expect it to be super fast, but the service was so bad the next night we left the property for a meal elsewhere. When we were at the pool we had to actively seek out someone for a drink or food, it was just not the hospitality we expected for the price we paid. The other elements were lovely, the rooms are defo aged and rustic but very nice anyway. We did have an ant problem in our room but that wasn’t the end of the world. The Segway tour guys were amazing and honestly the highlight. Would love to visit again to see more of the estate but probably wouldn’t rush to stay again.
Heidi Catlin — Google review
The website shows a very glossy Image of the place, but we're not in an ideal world!
There werre quite a few maintenance and improvements going on that impeded our enjoyment considerably and prevented us from using some of the facilities that would otherwise have been included.
The only top marks go to housekeeping. The worst things were some other services, e.g. restaurant, and the complete lack of atmosphere.
Probably good for business events!

Diemersdal Wine Estate is a wine estate in the heart of Durbanville wine country, with panoramic views of farmland. The winery has a bistro-style food menu, and offers tastings of award-winning wines inside the tasting room or on the terrace.
This vineyard is beautiful. the wines are really good. Staff very informative of the wines and food. The surrounding views of the vineyard are serene. Came here with group and had amazing time.
They are open for lunch then close. Open back for dinner. Make reservation or call for times.

We joined the Sunday set-menu sharing tapas and it was incredible. All of the dishes were well balanced and very flavourful. I genuinely believe that Diemersdal is the best dining experience in Durbanville. I can highly recommend Diemersdal’s restaurant for its impressive service, quality wine, and incredible food!
Melissa Wainwright — Google review
Diemersdal is no doubt a favorite far beyond the Durbanville hills. Their generous outdoor seating area is covered by a grape vine trellis.
The staff are quite friendly and pleased to help you try any wine you'd like. Regardless of your tastes, the tasting fee is waived with a purchase of only R400 or less (many Durbanville wineries have adopted a 6, 12 or 18 bottle requirement to waive the tasting fee). You'll discover some exceptional Sauvignon Blanc and Pinotage at values that are difficult to find elsewhere in the entire Western Cape wine scene.
Grab some root chips for R35 to enjoy between sips and relax for an hour or more tasting the excellence Diemersdal offers.

One of my favourite wine estates to visit. Driving down the lovely lane of trees and flowers towards the tasting facilities already sets the tone for an experience of pleasure for the senses. The tasting room and outside seating area offers a excellent social setting to share the wine experience over a cheese board or a plate of snacks.
The tasting personnel are professional, well trained and experienced. This all compliments the superb wines on offer. The wines cover a wide range of tastes and price points, and all of very good quality.
This is home to my favourite Pinotages wines around, whether at entry lever price or the top of the range.

Diemersdal Wine Estate was the perfect type of wine farm for us. This old world charm farm with its manicured lawns and old Cape Dutch Style buildings were exactly what a wine farm should be. Not over commercialized like almost all the other wine farms in the Cape. Sitting under the pergola, tasting the most superb wines, looking over the lawns at the water Buffalo's coming down to drink water.
We heard amazing things about the restaurant, but unfortunately it was closed on the Monday that we visited, please make sure to make reservation to not miss it like we did.
Looking forward to visiting this farm again in the future.

This already was my favorite restaurant but it is even more after my fantastic lunch from yesterday. I’m on a very challenging and complicated diet since 2 months (Fodmap). I emailed the restaurant about my dietary requests and they made a special tapas menu for me. Wow!
I could choose from 7 small dishes and they even adjusted the complimentary bread dish for me.
When I eat out on this diet I’m normally stuck to the steak&veggies option, but this was really amazing. The 3 dishes I chose were all so good, I didn’t have the idea that I was eating something else than my partner at all. The fried squid was the best I had in a long tome.
The staff was also very attentive and super friendly. They all made this lunch very special for me. I felt like a ‘normal’ person again for 2 hours. Thanks so much Team Diemersdal!

This was our second stop on our mini tour of Durbanville wine farms.
When we arrived it was quite full but we managed to get a 2 seater table inside. We opted for the Dalewood cheese board and added some biltong. Really delicious cheese and biltong.
We opted to each do the tasting of 6 wines and mixed it up so that each of us had 6 different wines. What I liked is that they brought the wines individually and gave a detailed explanation of each one.
The service is really excellent and so are the wines. Grabbed 2 bottles of wine to enjoy at home.

You had to be a hardcore Christian to endure what happened on Saturday night!!
Meerendal is DEFINATELY not equipped to host mega events.
Even without the rain!!
One road in and the same road out make the venue unsuitable!
The traffic in and out of the farm was a total disaster!!
Cape Town stadium with multiple entrances would have been the better option.
The organisers, Radio Tygerberg, should have known this.
Again, rain or no rain.
I feel for the hundreds of people who totally missed the show because of the traffic.
Putting the rain aside this will always be a huge problem!
However....
The air was loaded!
Loaded with the presence of God!
For those who could get in nothing could take away from the awesome experience that was had praising and worshipping our Maker.
There was definitely a shift in the atmosphere.
Cape Town for JESUS!!

Our CPUT students for Dispensing Opticianry participated and partnered with visually impaired students to create an unforgettable bond through assisting each other and sharing stories on visual impairment. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the walk and the opportunity for learning , it provided. The South African Optometric Association wishes to thank Michelle and her excellent staff for the wonderful service we received. Thank you Michelle for going beyond the call of duty to ensure that the logistics were taken care of and hiccups in the process quickly dealt with. Thank you for the time taken out of a busy work schedule to arrange for storage and problem solve on other fronts. Rest assured, we will be back next year to avail our selves of your kind hospitality and beautiful vistas. MEERENDAL is indeed a marvelous SIGHT FOR THE EYES!!

This is such a beautiful and wonderful wine estate. Not only are the views incredible, the Bossa restaurant, the chocolatier shop, the deli farm stall and the winetasting are all stunning. Loved the wine and the staff is very knowledgable. I do however have a problem with a glass top table outside the toilets. Huge bruise where I bumped into the sharp edge not visible coming around the corner into a dimly lit lounge area. This could be quite dangerous for children. Apart from this.... well worth the visit and a cut above a lot of wine estates.🍷🍷🍷

This place is nice not my favorite. It needs a little help. The mountain bike track is the highlight for sure. The wine is good. The wine tasting area is small and not cosy.

I had a lovely experience at Meerendal today. We went to have pizza at Bossa and they didn't disappoint with the food and good service. Then followed by a wine tasting. Their wines are special and unique. Definitely worth trying and buying. We took long walks on the wine estate and it was simply an amazing experience. 👏

Bossa is one of the restaurants on the Meerenndal estate. We had a lovely time. Waited a little long for our food but the kids play area kept them all uay enough not to notice. The cocktails were delicious and beautiful. They even had some sugar free options. Thw gormet milk shakes are also very good.
I tried the nachos and that was the only meal we were VERY disappointed with. They were so flat and bland. Needed alot of TLC. The menu is extensive and they have good choices that suite all different tastes. Thw kiddies menu is alright. No complaints, except our loaded Mac and cheese came to the table still frozen. But they were happy to fix that problem for us. We will go again. The views are absolutely stunning and the kids loves the play area. If you have younger kids it wouldn't work for them as it is located a bit too far away from the restaurant. For older kids it is perfect. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

As a visitor to South Africa we are being constantly amazed by everything we see and experience in this country. Our visit to Meerendal Wine Estate was no exception. Beautifully surroundsand grounds, meticulously tended vines and facilities to equal anything else around the world. The food was delicious and the staff were happy, smiling, knowledgeable, courteous and a real asset to the estate. Ten out of ten

The view is fantastic but the food is way below expectations :( Cesar salad dressing was just a mayo, anchovies were deep fried, “Parmesan” Was a dried cheap cheese. “Ciabatta” was a stiff bread, mussels sauce was a thick tasteless something… the only tasty thing was potato chips 🙈
The starter size of calamari was the same as the main dish and they were tasteless.
Wine tasting was nothing close to expectation, the wine was not great, but there was no explanation at all, just served on plates and the pairing was disappointing.

We had the pleasure of staying at Meerendal during our recent trip in SA.
The estate is close enough to the main attractions in Cape Town, with most places only a few minutes drive away, yet detached so that you get to enjoy the beautiful views and open grounds of the Durbanville valley.
The rooms were spacious, well equipped and clean. The estate also boasts 2 very good restaurants which proved very convenient and offered a good varied choice for breakfast and dinner. (They also do lunch but we were always out and about by that time).
In the evenings, us adults really enjoyed the wine tasting room, whilst the kids loved the little play area next to the restaurants.
Overall highly recommended.

Me and my wife attended a full moon hike a couple of days ago which was very pleasant. Nothing that anybody could have done regarding the situation, but until the end of the full moon hike we never saw the moon. 😅 I would probably refer to it as a sunset hike, in which case, great experience.
In terms of the amenities offered, very decent.
Personally for me the wine improved over the last couple of years, but they have potential to improve even more.
They offer many other events, so keep an eye their socials.

I did not expect to see so much. It's like a beautiful village and yet a modern and very smart wine farm. Excellent wine and the staff very friendly

The Robben Island Museum offers guided tours of the prison, including the lime quarry where prisoners worked and Nelson Mandela's cell. The island served as a prison for political prisoners and criminals from 1961 to 1991. Former inmates now work as tour guides, sharing personal and often harrowing stories of their time in the prison. Ferries depart from Victoria and Albert Waterfront, so it's advisable to book in advance. This 5.
Very informative and they use ex-political prisoners to do the tour. Amazing experience

Definitely worth visiting. The 30-minute boat ride to get there was a little bumpy. The jail tour is informative and well-paced. The island tour by bus was fine although the bus is a bit cramped. The museum presents its important story well.

A large boat takes tourists over to Robben Island, off the coast of Capetown, S Africa. Its approximately a 30 minute ride and can be rough, when in the open waters unprotected by the bay.
Buses take groups around the island to see the quarry where prisoners toiled, the houses and other buildings for the staff and their families and lastly the tour of the prison, culminating in a walk past Nelson Mandela’s cell.
Our guide was a former prisoner who told of his own experiences there, incarcerated at age 18. There was another former prisoner, with his family in our touring group- it was quite moving when the 2 men , one black, one white, recognized each other.

A very somber visit.
The tour takes over 2 hours. Please have a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses as it gets pretty bright in the limestone.
It is amazing how a few years ago the world was just up side down!

The tour was very informative and I've learned a lot, the knowledge gap about Robben Island was filled. I wish every South African could pay a visit.

This is a must see on your Cape Town visit. Buy tickets well in advance during summer. We highly highly recommend the Walking Tour option. While it takes 4+ hours you really get a very different and more in depth experience than the regular tour on big busses that move past the many historical sights. Plus, you get to spend time with a resident guide on Robben Island, which affords a much more personal take on the place.

Great tour to get a lot of South African history the apartheid period in particular, and of course to visit the historic ground of Robben Island where Mandela were for years.

The tour was disappointing. Not the same as years ago. Very rushed and short story. Doesn't cover full history. Have to pack food when going. Food was sold out on island. Also have to take cash bcos no signal for electronic purchases.

Yacht and onboard commentary was on point.
Friendly and knowledgeable tour guides. Not sure if all of the prison tour guides are, but ours was an ex prisoner with plenty stories to tell
Learnt a lot about the history of Robben Island but felt as though the tour was very rushed - there was a lot more to be seen and heard.

A historic site to visit and learn a lot. There is information that was unknown to me but now I know. It was an amazing visit and we had a colorful tour guides who gave us an amazing tour around the ISLAND. We even saw some penguins 🐧 😂

Beautiful historic place, however they allow so many ppl at a time. Groups are made out of a bus full therefore really difficult to navigate through the narrow passages in prison. Otherwise I enjoyed the lectures and learned a lot about our history.
Also we had to wait in a long queue to enter the boat. Waiting in the blazing hot day was not nice.

Just an absolute grounding experience. Being able to put yourself in the shoes of people who were imprisoned for fighting for freedom is something you’ll never experience elsewhere. Insider tip would to sit on the left side of the bus tour portion and sit in the bottom of the ferry.

Having read the Long Walk to Freedom a few months back I just had to visit while in Cape Town. The fact the tours are from former prisoners was a bonus hearing the words from the mouths of the people who suffered at the place.

Robben Island was a great experience, the waiting area was modern but there weren’t many places to sit so when our trip delayed an hour it was uncomfortable. The boat ride was fun and bumpy with a cool history video on. We had guided buses taking us around the island and explaining each area including the prisons, the history, the lepers. We got out at a few stops to take photos. We then had a guided prison walkabout by an ex prison inmate who was in there for terrorism and 2 counts of murder. He explained each portion of the prison and his experience. Total time was about 3 to 4 hours and was event filled.

What an amazing tour! Book in advance and keep an eye on weather. The boat trip to island is quick (30 mins). The tour is a mix of walking and bus. The first part by bus is very informative and well organised.
The 2nd part on foot is with a former detainee. This bought everything to home! It was so interesting and emotional as you could hear the real stories and what life was liked. A amazing trip!

Definitely a worthwhile experience. Our tour guide gave us such a thorough recount of history and told incredible stories about each prisoners past.

Our ferry across was delayed which given the jet lag we experienced took the edge off going round.
Having an ex-prisoner do part of the tour was really interesting and if you are in Cape Town, I feel you have to see this at least once.

It is a guided tour. You can’t visit alone. A former political prisoner explained inside the museum. There are 2 stops inside the museum by bus tour

What an amazing day learning about the heritage that was neglected to be taught in our schools... so much information received that I am embarrassed to say, as a South African, I did not know transpired in our country.

A must to go in Cape Town: the story of a county and, mainly, the story of how to start again after a painful history. Guards and prisoners were working together in the museum. Now all guards are retired and only some prisoners remaining. We had the opportunity to meet one that showed us the prison. An extremely important experience to understand South Africa and his history!
