Many historical buildings, such as a blacksmith shop & thatch cottage, plus Aboriginal artifacts.
Well worth the drive.... You can comfortably allow a few hours to wander and wonder through and amongst so many facets and relics of the earlier days of the Eyre peninsula. You will not be disappointed

Fantastic collection of memorabilia, farm machinery and and general life of a bygone era. Well worth a visit.
Tamra Gallagher — Google review
We had great fun exploring through the various buildings and the history within. They have some amazing pieces from throughout history and the blacksmith's workshop was very cool to see.
I was a little sad to see that this tank was merely a replica, but undoubtedly it was still cool.
Steven Schinella — Google review
Spent a fascinating afternoon there. It's sort of misnamed as there are so many other exhibits as well as the blacksmith's, such as cars, wagons, a complete schoolroom from 1971, a fencing wire museum, old machines, printing presses, movie projectors, old bank, old post office and on and on
Peter Beck — Google review
a must-visit museum. so many artefacts from the 20th century together in one place..... unique.
juerg hauser — Google review
Such a wonderful array of so many different aspects of bygone eras. This place has been so well maintained and so many interesting items on display. So glad we went back and spent a couple of hours looking through this wonderful place.
Lynne Long — Google review
Very well signed and a wonderful display of our history. We took the dirt road that was very good.
Nancy Muraca — Google review
This is an interesting museum to visit. Children will love the hands on experience. The picnic area has tables, chairs and play equipment. You will have to take your own food though. We spent 2 and a half hours. Recommended
suzanne C — Google review
Exceptional way to spend a couple of hours, although you could stay there a lot longer if you really spent time in each exhibit. Really interesting history and well presented. A bit of dirt track to get there but we were fine in our 2 wheel drive.
Jon Hunter — Google review
Visited here on Dec 12 th 2023. Very tidy and well planned out displays. Things in here that we have never seen before. Looked around for 2 hours but needed 2 1/2 hours to be not rushed at the end because it was closing. Was worth the trip out there.
Vikki Wright — Google review
When going to pay for entrance (which was great value),the gentleman that greeted us had a great sense of humour. He explained how to get around the site and told us various bits of information. You can spend a few hours going around and brings back memories as well as seeing new things we hadn't seen before. There are tables and chairs if you want to take lunch. Highly recommend it.
Lesley Runeckles — Google review
It was an excellent place to visit, with my tour group, to learn about the history of the area.
Definitely worth the drive to check it all out.
Alladin's cave of local Tumby treasure. Pat is a living local treasure herself and passionately explained how she chased down a missing sound horn for one of her old gramaphones. Pat played 2 gramaphones for us, and explained in detail every item we showed an interest in... amazing service. Check the headmasters canes... yes these were used, I witnessed my brothers being caned at school (girls were not caned, sexism is favourable occasionally). It is hard for young people to understand how we grew up!
Jacquie Perkins — Google review
Amazing visit with the kids, Pat showed us around and invited us to try some of the old typewriters, phones and the flying fox. Lots to see, all very organised. Fantastic

We loved the museum. So many items on display. On arrival we met Pat Carr who shared all her local information and showed us how things worked or explained how they worked. What a woman! A place worthwhile visiting in fact a must.
Kates Cakes — Google review
Stumbled across this beauty in Tumby Bay. We wanted to fill in some time with the kids.
We were welcomed by the wonderful Pam who spent time showing my two kids around. They were allowed to touch and explore (within means), play old musical instruments and use the old typewriters. It was like taking a step back in time! We really enjoyed our visit here.

Plenty to see and read. Old class rooms chock-a-block full of displays. Plus rooms
Set out as they were used then.

So quiet, took a walk out on the longest jetty in the southern hemisphere. The tide was out so it looked very interesting seeing a vehicle 1km off the shore line on a low tide.
Greg Brooks — Google review
The tide clock used was a cool piece of engineering used in the 1800's, it was constructed using pulleys and levers that moved with the tide. The tide clock used to be located at the Cockle Spit, and the original plexiglas face was illuminated by an oil lamp. It is good to see that it was restored and moved to the land for the public to see.

Lovely gardens to go for a stroll. A big bird cage with talking cockatoos
The Caravan of courage — Google review
These gardens are a credit to Whyalla, and a wonderful place to spend some time. They even have some large aviarys with Cockatiels, Parrots, Galahs and Cockatoos. I'd get rid of the pine trees and replace them with Australian natives though. Go and check it out, you'll love it.🕊
David Whitney — Google review
Absolutely beautiful gardens. So pretty, peaceful and relaxing. Grew up in Whyalla and I now live in Adelaide and always love to visit here, even a lifetime later, it's still just simply stunning.
Kathy Hickey — Google review
Whether it's a wedding, kids party or just time to relax with family, the gardens are just beautiful. There are some birds, playgrounds and tennis courts as well. Kane and the team from council do an amazing job keeping the gardens looking neat and pretty.
Fiona Moellner — Google review
Beach access for kayaks is terrible. No where to park a trailer close to a ramp for launching. We had good access once but the council removed it and never replaced it as they agreed to do.
Trevor Nottle — Google review
Doesn't even deserve one star. Why are there birds in captivity in small cages here that you can see all over in Australia in every tree ? Seeing large cockatoos alone in a small cage, which are normally seen in large flocks in nature, is horrific and heartbreaking. A pink cockatoo has even pulled out its own feathers. Who likes to watch something like that? Torment.
Benita Tönges — Google review
Magnificent trees in a well set out garden area. We thoroughly enjoyed walking through the gardens admiring the flowers and trees and then we came across the big bird Avery in the middle of the gardens. It was so nice checking out the different birds- some we heard speak! Lots of shade if weather is hot. Situated next to children’s playground and right near the beach. We made a day of it.
Liisa Grace Baun — Google review
We stopped here after leaving Pt Broughton heading to Port Lincoln. It was a lovely spot but unfortunately the cafe was closed. We enjoyed the walk and the water was warm. A nice place to stretch before the next leg of our journey.
Jill Drake — Google review
A really nice park!
Well done Whyalla. Wonderful to stroll through and a bird enclosure.
Very well kept.
robnal4wd — Google review
Beautiful gardens, BBQ's, children's play facilities, picnic tables/seating, grassed areas, mostly undercover from tree canopies, bricked paths, some feathered and caged animals. Car parking accessible for all, public toilets, wheelchair accessible throughout the gardens.
Helen Bach — Google review
Despite being blazing hot, it was the perfect setting for a family celebration.
Temperature not the fault of the Gardens
Perfect spot for freecamping. $10 a night, take a pen with you to fill in details,it's a $174 fine not to,so do the right thing....
Oh,and had a pod of dolphins swim right by us this morning, totally worth the visit.

Great camping area. Only 10$ for one night and hot showers available for 2.20$. Facilities are clean and sunset/sunrise view is quite nice. Definitely recommend this spot!
Kerstin Merget — Google review
Such a beautiful place to take a picnic and seat and enjoy the view.
Lovely location and views.
Tarra Mundy — Google review
Interesting part of local history's oddities with the lighthouse heightening in 1909, it's decommissioning by AMSA in 1993 and the takeover by Whyalla council in 1995.
Mr. M — Google review
A definite must see if in the area, plenty of parking space for cars and caravans.
Quite a bit of restoration work being carried out at the time we visited, but no interpretation to our visit.
Highly recommend

Awesome, first day we had out of the wind!!!! Wafer was beautiful, people were catching fish, young kids could swim protected in the boat ramp area, and $10 a night self sufficient camping!!!! Awesome!!!
Michael Habs — Google review
This is a great place to stay with a large group of people (3 bedroom + sleepout cottage). We stayed with family (19 people) and it kept everyone comfortable. Plenty of beds (lots of bunks) for everyone. Basic shower and toilet facilities. Good sized kitchen/fenced yard and laundry. Everyone enjoyed strolls along the beach, lighthouse and surrounding bush area. Playground about 600m away. Plenty of wildlife and fishing to enjoy. No tv, but that's why you go with a large group of people (just chill and relax). Will do it again.
Rob — Google review
Lovely spot with gorgeous views. Renting the lighthouse cottages is an excellent way to spend a dive trip during cuttlefish season. This is my third year running a trip with The Dive Shack at Point Lowly and it gets better every year! Excellent way to enjoy a winter weekend away and see some really unique creatures interacting.

This lookout shows you the circular jetty in Whyalla. (The only one in the southern hemisphere) The town itself self as well as the beaches. It can get windy up there, so if you have long hair, either tie it back or hold it. You can sit at the chairs under the rotunda. There are 3.

A place to visit, especially with history surrounding the town posted hete, a description of why they have a cannon mounted here and bunker, then the other stories told here on the plaques are part of the towns history. After that take the time to enjoy 360 degree views of ocean and town
Phil Holliday — Google review
This is a great Whyalla tourist attraction, the views of the steel works, beach and ranges is awesome. A must see viewing point if passing through or visiting Whyalla. Can get a bit blowy on really windy days, so rug up.
Rob — Google review
Awesome lookout for us brisbane tourists.
Really see the landscapes of whyalla, including the unique jetty, the clear waters, the dolphins, the war bunker, the steel refinery and the small town.
Went for a walk down to the jetty and it's quite peaceful, theirs random spots of information about the sealife and history of the town, whyalla and the jetty which is always fun to read about.
I recommend this spot for a visit if you're ever passing through.
If you have the chance to go on the tour of the ship Whyalla I recommend it. Tour guide was very informative. Loved the experience of walking through this ship and learning a piece of our history.
Kerry Van Mosseveld — Google review
Decided to stop whilst on our road trip to Port Lincoln, the sign said open 10am till 4pm yet when we entered we were told we can only view the museum if we book in advance and it's a guided tour only at 11:30 or 13:30 daily.
Snowypods — Google review
I visited the museum as part of entrance to the former HMAS Whyalla ship tour. Very worthwhile to see the short video of the retrieval and rehoming of the ship on site.
The rest of the museum is interesting and informative if you like that type of thing. I do! There were multiple themed rooms. I added a pic of a typical display, however there was much more including model ships, 'artifacts', and other historical information and stories.
Andrew S — Google review
Highly recommend the tour of the former HMAS Whyalla - it’s a lot more interesting than I initially expected, I’ll be honest. Rod did an amazing job of educating us about this ships history, what it was like to live on it, and how it got to where it is today. His passion for his job and his town is evident and really rubbed off on us. Thanks Rod!
Alexis Green — Google review
An interesting place. I didn't go aboard the ship as there's a lot of steps to get up there & I don't think I could have made it (as I have an injury). Heaps of information in therre & lovely, helpful staff.
Peggy Cook — Google review
Great tour. Linda the tour guide was amazing. Very knowledgeable and really got the kids involved. Great idea having a kids activity throughout the museum which kept everyone involved and interested.
Jasmine — Google review
Rod was a great guide for the ship tour, he was passionate about the ship and the connection it had with Whyalla. It was good to see how life was on board the WW2 vessel.
The tours run at 11:30 am and 01:30pm from the info centre and run for 45- 60 minutes, you may need to book ahead as there was only 10 spots available with people waiting.
You can visit the maritime museum afterwards with well maintained grounds.

Great museum and Mine sweeper ship. So good to go on the ship and see how it use to work and the people who used it.! Nice pathways and board walk.
Alex Draper — Google review
The museum has a nice model railway but the HMAS WHYALLA is the drawcard. View the ship by tour only, 11:30 and 1:30pm. Tour is free with entry to the museum, well worth it.
CATE E — Google review
This place is a must see in Whyalla. If you like museums you will like the way the information is displayed and interpreted. It is a very interactive museum. The kids during the school holidays is having a fun and a very informative activities of which they will have a prize after completing it, the other good thing about the kids activities besides it's educational that it is very well distributed along the museum halls so it keeps the children busy while parents can enjoy each hall.
I missed the ship tour though
Shahy Radwan — Google review
I have driven past on so many occasions, but never expected it to be so fantastic. The tour of the ship was unbelievable, my 9yo absolutely loved it. Ontop of this, I heartily recommend visiting and spending a few hours to see the history of a ship in the museum, well worth its weight in gold. There is also fun activities to keep children amused for quite some time, a theatre to see the grounding of the HMAS WHYALLA, (very informative and entertaining) , as well as model railways and many other artifacts. If you are visiting Whyalla, definitely put it in your plans, take the time to visit, you will not be disappointed.
Great place. A great collection of Toys. He has every Matchbox car ever made. Plus Dinky. Corgi. Micro. You name it its there. A great selection of Mechano sets some built up. 7 running train sets all working. Planes. All sorts of other stuff. And very knowledgeable about what he's got. If thats not enough he knows everything about Valiant cars. Call in you won't be disappointed.

The collection of Matchbox cars, Dinky toys, Meccano sets etc etc etc just blows your mind. For those in their 60s and beyond it almost takes you back to you childhood. Scale Scalextric train sets, an old dragster bike, Hornby train sets and the list goes on and on. Do yourself a favour and drop into this amazing museum / collection of toys that you grew up with. Glad I did. I almost felt like Tom Hanks in that movie.....

Huge collection of …. Things! Primarily collectible cars and automobiles but you’ll sure to find at least one item that gives you a real sense of nostalgia. Most of the items are under a secure layer or dust, faded or partially water damaged as the ceiling leaks in some places. $5 entry fee

Although this town would be seen by some as a ghost town and the surroundings are run down, the volunteer staff do a magnificent job of keeping the heritage of the miners alive. The driver of our tour showed what was then and how it is now. A job well done, thank you

We were hoping to participate in the mine and area tour today but unfortunately it wasn't running. We were more than impressed with the staff at the visitors center who were only too happy to answer all our questions. The museum was a very informative and we saw a video on the mine.

Unfortunately the museum was closed and it felt like a ghost town. However it was a Saturday. I still recommend going though.
Unique exhibits offering a journey through the history of the Outback, plus a gift & coffee shop.
What a beautiful location, especially in the heart of spring! The wild flowers are in bloom, the reptiles are warming themselves in the sun and birds dart in and around the outdoor area as you enjoy your tea and delicious scones

Do yourself a favour and make sure to visit here. Set aside a good 3hrs and take it all in. So much to see, read and watch. Loved learning about history that I had no idea about. Fabulous experience 👍
Karin Tamm — Google review
Lots more to see than I had expected. Lots of it is recorded content that you can watch or bypass. Displays are a little dated but, essentially being a museum, it doesn't matter too much. Kids (9 & 15 were kept entertained for over an hour).
Nic Thiele — Google review
A fantastic display in their ‘time tunnel’. The centre itself is just full of incredibly helpful, kind and generous ladies. Just loved our entire trip here and happily stayed here for about 3.5 hours! Allow plenty of time, there was heaps of information and quite a few videos (I think 3 well over 15 minutes, one was 65 minutes) so allow plenty of time to go through. Also ask for the kids work sheet so they have something to follow as they go through, a great homeschool day! Well done Port Augusta 🙌

One of the best designed and laid out museums or information centres I have visited. Worth the entry fee, and, if needed, you can return again anytime within 12 months (ask at desk). It really takes a good few hours to get the full experience. Looks at the history of the region through indigenous and non-indigenous eyes.
And there is a cafe ....
Mark Davies — Google review
Whilst the outback centre had quite good information, the price of $20 each adult is not worth it. Maybe $10 each a fairer price. As an information visitor centre some staff were more helpful than others compared to many I have visited in SA.

A great place to stop for a break and a meal. Staff are very friendly. Trailer parking is simple and easy, drive thru with a van (limited spaces).

Wonderful place. Here, you'll have the opportunity to take a photo inside the mouth of an ancient lizard and buy cowboy hats. 😃

A couple of the videos didn't correspond with the narration.
It was informative though.

It was a great day with the kids.
Honestly I thought it was a bit expensive but once we went through and seen everything it had to offer it was 100% worth it!
Definitely will take the kids again they all got something out of it, 12 year old, 3 year old and 8 month old.
Plan on going back with out the kids as well so we can take everything in with out the distraction kids bring. 😂
10/10
You get your money's worth for sure, learn somethings and the kids were amazed by lots of the interactive features and big displays.
Incase it's not clear I would definitely recommend this to anyone with kids, people that have an interest in Pt. August and surrounding towns, Older times or want to kill some time
👍

Great museum that shares equally pre-European Aboriginal Dreamings (Legends and Histories) in great detail and British explorations and expansion into the Continent's harsh Outback.
It's definitely worth the admission, especially if you have 2-3 hours to spend and absorb lessons fully.

Lots of history. The video presentations are great. But a bit lengthy for me. And most of the videos look like were made in the 90’s? Not very clear. The outback cinema would be great with some more ventilation. I can see the effort in making this museum but it felt like a lengthy history class. I liked the aboriginal stories, it helped me to understand their connection to this land better.

The impressive gallery plays a valuable role in Port Augusta's thriving artistic community. It showcases displays by artists from the area as well as various temporary exhibits, offering a constant array of exceptional artwork to admire.
This wonderful gallery is such an asset to Port Augusta's vibrant ARTS scene.
Hosting exhibitions by local artists and a range of visiting exhibitions there is always something great to see.
Former water tower with steeps flights of stairs leading to a lookout point with sweeping views.
Altough it looks scary and steepy. But actually there are some steady railings. The structure of the water tower is fantastic. Design of the steel structure brings everyone a chance to see the different aspects of views.

Great views over port Augusta and into the flinders ranges further afield. We’ll worth a look if your In the area.

Good place to see sunsets and sunrises.
Quite windy up there, but PA is windy most of the time anyway.
Stairs are quite scary. Not recommend for people with arophobia because stairs are made of metal, but you can see through them. Quite terrified to look down.

Incredible view from a run-down looking little water tower🌆 A must visit location when you’re in Port Augusta and going at sunset time is perfect for those golden hour shots of the town☀️The stairs going up and down might look a little scary to people who are afraid of heights but they seemed perfectly sturdy and held the weight of all of us who went in a group of 8.

This lookout offers awesome views of port augusta and beyond. There aren't many stairs, but they are steep at times and a little inconsistent in size. It was a little hairy at times walking up them with my 2 year old.

It is really the former water tower! Very high! Don't go up if you are scared! but the scenery is great

The Water Tower in Port Augusta offers a decent city and river view. While it's worth a visit for the scenery, it's just alright in terms of overall appeal.

Short drive and climbed tower to see Port Augusta and surrounds. Steep climb narrow steps so go slowly if your a bit older 🙏 but I'm not good with heights. So beautiful to look over the area and the hills in distance in the direction to Ceduna.

Opened in 1996, this 250-hectare botanical garden features an interpretive centre, a cafe & a shop.
A must see garden. I highly recommend visiting it, and please ask for the tour as you will learn interesting facts about Australia native plants.

Beautiful garden and conservation areas. The landscaping lets you see all layers at once, the grasses, shrubs and trees. The main paths are set as intersecting concentric circles, connected by narrow winding paths.
There is lots of seating, some in shade some in sun.
The central area is well signed. The signs further out are set in a way that I could not get a photo of the plant with it's name.
Janos Veresbaranji — Google review
These gardens have to be amongst the best in Australia. Well thought out exhibits (loved the garden ones) and different habitats to explore. The bird hides, although quiet, are obviously the result of a lot of hard work. Red kangaroos on the surrounding heath land and terrific birds in the garden make this a must visit.

Stopped by here for a quick “pit stop” on the way back from Coober Pedy to Adelaide. It was a beautiful place where our quick pit stop turned into a 2 hour break. The gardens were beautiful and it was great to see that they had sections on how to make low water gardens at home. The park also came along with a great cafe where they sold all native foods and bush Tucker. I recommend trying the native tasting plate and of course the selection of indigenous ice creams such as wattle seed and bush lime. I highly recommend a visit and supporting the gardens as they receive minimal government funding and do an amazing job.

An amazing array of plants from our arid areas. Who knew there were so many beautiful lush plants and stunning flowers growing out there in such harsh climate. I did the self tour on Sunday in the rain and loved it so much I came back for the guided tour with Shirley on Monday morning. Our 6 hour tour with Astrid was a wonderful experience. Astrid has extensive knowledge of the geology, wildlife and history of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges and the surrounding regions. It was truly fascinating. A highlight for me was seeing the Yellow footed rock wallaby.

Loved it! Highly recommend the 4x4 tour of brachina and bunyeroo gorge, for us it was the highlight of our trip to the flinders ranges. Highly informative about the history of the region and we saw pretty much every animal (and bird) there was including baby emu chicks. The lamingtons hit the spot for morning tea as well. Full stop this tour is DEFINITELY worth it!!!

My wife and I went on a four day tour with Wallaby Tracks last week, and the entire experience was top notch! From the initial inquiries to booking and answering whatever questions we had (this was the first time I had taken such a tour) leading up to the tour, everything was seamless. Paul was our tour guide and far exceeded any expectations I had. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the entire region, took the time to show us everything and anything we came across in Flinders Ranges - seeing kangaroos, rock wallabys, emus, all sorts of birds, a 4x4 tour as well as a flight over Flinders Ranges. To further personalize the experience, he took the time to show us some more detailed family history from the region that they researched before we arrived (a relative lived here about 150 years ago). If you are looking for a personalized and easy trip into the Outback, Wallaby Tracks is the way to go!

We did a 4 hour tour of Wilpena Pound's ranges and gorges with Astrid of Wallaby Tracks Adventure Tours. We genuinely felt we were travelling with a friend in the air conditioned comfort of Astrid's Land Cruiser as she took us off the beaten track through the National Park showing us ancient geological features, wild life including kangaroos, rock wallabies, families of emus, wedge-tailed eagles, rainbow bee eaters and more plus glorious views from look-outs. Astrid's commentary reflected her deep knowledge of the Flinders Ranges. We were cool as cucumbers in car during the 34C summer heat and had the chance to stretch our legs at various rock formations and lookouts. This tour is highly recommended, don't give it a second thought before you book!!

I can highly recommend touring with this company. Our family of four adults visited the southern Flinders Ranges staying 2 nights at Ikara (Wilpena Pound).
1: We had accommodation at the Adelaide Riviera Hotel at an excellent rate
2: We left our car parked safely in their gated carpark while on tour.
3: We were picked up and dropped off at the hotel.
4: The vehicle we toured in was a Toyota Landcruiser (series 3). It felt very safe. It was a small tour for the four of us.
5: Our guide was sensational! Astrid has a warm and lovely manner, great knowledge and enthusiasm about the places we saw, and was very flexible about the itinerary. We had plenty of time to stop at the places we were interested in. We never felt rushed.
6: All our expenses were paid for in the price, all meals and snacks, accommodation, and fuel. We only had to pay for alcohol and souvenirs. No hidden extras.
We will book another holiday with Wallaby Tours again. Next time, the Northern Flinders Ranges! Can't wait.

An amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience! Astrid and Paul made us feel 'at home' from the outset. The unseasonal rain in Coober Pedy and the Flinders Ranges meant that we saw these areas in a unique way. The rain also meant that Astrid and Paul had their hands full navigating a safe passage on desert and mountain roads unaccustomed to wet weather! They arranged this effortlessly and keep us safe and on track regardless! All aspects of our trip (timing, accommodation, food, sightseeing) and all of our unique requests were met generously. Truly memorable. Thank you so much.

What a fantastic trip of a lifetime enjoyed by my friend and I. Paul took us on a 5 day / 4 night adventure from Adelaide, Coober Pedy, Lake Eyre and the Flinders Ranges. Paul is an excellent driver, knows heaps about the areas we explored and you felt completely safe and looked after. We saw amazing vistas and met some wonderful characters along the way. I think we experienced more on this trip than you might on others because Paul knew so much and because he knew all the locals. Would highly recommend this trip to others and would like to do more trips with Paul and Astrid.

We thougherly recommended this company for a wonderful Flinders Ranges tour. Picked up from our accommodation at Rawnsley Park Station by Paul in a comfortable Land cruiser.

Spectacular landscape, spotted the Yellow footed rock wallaby close by which came out to greet us. Emus and the Red caped robin.
Paul was very knowledgeable on all aspects of the Flinders.
Thanks so much.
Train journeys in restored timber cars pulled by steam engines through rocky mountain passes.
We saw this on TV whilst travelling in the area. Had to have a ride and booked our tickets a week and a half ahead. Glad we did the train was full on the day, so book in advance. The railway station is beautiful, has a small museum and a gift shop with rather a good selection of goods for you to buy. The staff are all very informative and friendly. The carriages are all very well maintained, the only thing that was a bit disappointing was the seating is along the carriage rather than across so you could have a window seat. Bit that was quickly forgotten when the steam engine made it's way to the station to couple up with the carriages. The journey from Quorn to Woolshed Flat was most enjoyable watching the scenery go by, there were some very close rock formations and a very narrow bridge. But it was interesting all the way. At woodshed Flat there was the opportunity to purchase hot pasties and sausage rolls, scones, jam and cream, plus tea and coffee. The return journey gave those at the front of the train the opportunity to be at the back and get those perfect train photos. All up a great way to spend a day. Don't forget to allow some time to explore Quorn and it's history.

Wonderful experience, so glad I did it. However travelling on it in winter is freezing! Make sure you rug up really well, even bring a blanket. There is no heating on the train and the windows are allowed to be open for people to take photos etc.

Fantastic day today (23/09/2023) on the Pichi Richi Railway! Very knowledgeable volunteers to point out areas of significance along the journey. Definitely recommend. The photos don’t do it justice. Lots of people following the train along it’s journey in their cars to wave and take photos. Plenty of room to sit down without being squashed in the cabins. Recommend booking a table at the cafe in Quorn because it gets very busy when the train pulls up. Buy tickets well in advance to avoid disappointment for the railway as it is popular.

I was like a kid in a candy shop with this experience. Such a beautiful and well kept train. Being able to take my children on this was fantastic like my dad had done for me. What made it even better was when they brought my son up into the cab to see what it looked like and then explained everything. He's still talking about it. It's not a coincidence I see every other review here is five stars because as everyone else has said, Pjnda 4WD training is unbelievably good. Cannot speak highly enough of Norm and Coralie and what they do. I learned so much and came out not only with new knowledge and skills, but a lot more confidence to go down the tracks I'd been avoiding. I'd spent quite a bit of money on my 4WD but just didn't know how to get the most out of it - I'd go so far as to say everyone who is getting into 4WD should do this course, no exceptions. The one-on-one format is unbeatable... you learn at your own pace, ask as many questions as you want, go over the things you didn't quite get, nothing beats it. And norm isn't just a lovely bloke, he really knows his stuff. I could write pages about what i got out of this training and how highly I rate it but hopefully you get the idea that I'm a fan. Found Pinda by accident but am so so glad i went with them. Was way beyond my expectations and worth every cent. In fact, they should be charging way more so maybe go do the training before he does.

We recently completed a 2-day 4WD training course with Norm at Pindan Tours.
What a fabulous experience! Highly recommended.
We expected a large training group, but Norm tailored the course just for us based on our level of knowledge (zilch) and what we wanted to achieve (a bit of confidence in the outback).
The training was so thorough, with an emphasis on learning first then putting everything into action ourselves - the best way to learn.
In just two days, we're amazed at how much we've learnt and achieved a good level of confidence which is exactly what we hoped for.
Norm is a wonderful coach, took the time to explain anything we couldn't understand and taught us so much about the features of our own vehicle along with recommendations for future adjustments.
Thanks Norm and Coralie. We had a great couple of days with you.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Norm and Coralie at Pindan tours provided us with a truly excellent 2 day training program. Norm’s professionalism and high caliber, accredited course content were exceptional. (I had previously done a 4WD course in Adelaide so thought I had a fair handle on things. However the range and depth of new information I got from Norm showed just how poor the other course was.) Norm provided a comprehensive and insightful theory program on the first day which we could then test in a safe and controlled environment on the second day. Norm’s tailored program meant not only learning huge amounts more about my own vehicle but also the opportunity to explore the capabilities of our Bush Lapa off road van.
Norm and Coralie were extremely generous with both their knowledge and time staying long after finishing time to answer our many questions. We now feel far more confident to engage safely in extended off road 4 WD activities. Besides all this Norm and Coralie are just great people who are fun to be with. What a terrific experience all round. John & Jenny Dabinett

After completing the two day 4x4 training for work. I feel a lot more confident in taking the work Hilux off road. I now understand all the features and how to keep myself and others safe while driving. Norm is very professional as an instructor, and safety is paramount. Day 1 you are warmly welcomed by Muffin (their dog) and undertake a full day of theory and necessary as in day 2 Norm and Coralie will take you out to practice the theory.
I cannot express my gratitude in what Norm has taught me. With over 35 years in the industry Norm and Coralie are experts at what they do. They love what they do and it shows ! If you are looking for the best of the best in 4x4 training hit Norm and Coralie up. It will be the best decision you'll ever make. 5 Stars hands down ! PS: Day 2 is chock full of FUN !! Thanks Norm and Coralie :)

I would give this more stars if I could. Norm and Coralie were excellent instructors and taught us a lot about our car and what it could do, and how to do it. They built our 4WD confidence by 100% and more. We had theoretical and practical experience. They welcomed us into their home and endeared themselves to us with their easy going nature all the while challenging us to do what we didn't think we could. The weekend was worth every cent. I highly recommend Pindan Tours and 4WD training.

I would highly recommend this 2 day 4WD course with Norm and Coralie from Pindan Tours and 4WD Training. We learned so much about the capability of our Isuzu MUX off road and gained confidence driving in sand dunes, steep inclines and descents and over rocky terrain. We got to do this outside of Quorn in the beautiful Flinders Ranges so the view were stunning along the way. We also learnt how to get out of trouble using recovery gear when bogged in sand.
Norm and Coralie are extremely knowledgeable in 4WD and helped steer us with the necessary recovery gear to have on hand. They are also lots of fun, we had plenty of laughs, enjoyed Norms muffins for morning tea, and many pats with their dear old dog Muffin. Great work guys, see you on a Tag Along Tour next year! ❤️
PS: Norm, we are still practising NHOP! I even passed it on to my son Isaak

We found this hike to be moderate in difficulty for an average hiker at about 6 kilometers with some lovely views along the way. My wife and I have not hiked in the mountains for many years and we were still able to complete the loop without too much difficulty. Lovely scenery and worth the trip.

Great camping spot if you like bush treks and kangaroos. Quite hot but under the trees provided a lot of relief. We stayed at the second camp on a level bank above the dry creek bed. Great spot with kangaroos, parrots and wrens (I think). Did the three hour loop trail to Smoke-Oh Lookout. Signed the trekkers book at the top. Really in interesting walk following creek, then through pines, over hill sides and then the easy climb to the top ... Walk down the other side.

Very cool museum, has a lot of information about rockets and other related things. Good food.

Good place to find out about how remote Australia has been used to test missiles and nuclear weapons. 😪Very sad for the indigenous people who were used as guinea pigs and had their land taken.

Brilliant!!!
Well done Woomera !
Tell the story completely!
Photos movies and some of the best rocket displays ever . A fantastic place to spend some hours ...even the kids seem to enjoy.
The sad thing about the place is it also shows how Australia has gone from a world leader to a has been . We should have one of the best space programs in the world.

Well it wasn’t an unanimous decision to break our long drive and turn right to Woomera...however we stayed much more than initially planned...the place has such history, atmosphere...scenery and I would warmly recommend to break up your long drive for a short break in Woomera...if only for a decent coffee😊

Brilliant place to discover and learn the history of Woomera.
Visit for free, gets some food from the Diner, buy some souvenirs from the convenience store inside the Centre. All very good, and most welcoming.
Highly worth the detour of the highway. This is a must.

Awesome history. Driving around it's hard to imagine it as a thriving town. Full of fascinating photos and memorabilia. There's a bowling alley, cafe and more. Definitely worth a visit!!

Fantastic Museum of Woomera
See what the town has supported and learn about Australian, British and American rocket launcher carried out over the past 70 years
Lots to read and discover, worth the stop
Puts the rockets in the Rocket Park nearby into perspective, what they were used for and when
Just an amazing location in that flatness of the SA outback. The cold war history to current day all around you.

Very tired looking, the movie was out of order. In need of repairs as some of the lettering on the walls was missing.
Needs a make over!

Nice collection of airplanes, missiles and machinery used in military. Many parking places and public toilets make the place good stop to rest on your way.

The museum has a good display of the early defence operations with many exhibits inside and outside. Sadly there is no recognition of the families and the loss of lives due to the early atomic testing.

Museum currently not open due to maintenance however can still check out the outside exhibits & other things around town. Interesting history

An awesome piece of Australian aerospace history. Includes an example of the first rocket to make orbit from Australia and a US Redstone first stage recovered from the Simpson Desert (China or USSR style) that launched the first Australian satellite.

The displays at the Woomera Rocket Park are looking better than ever after the recent paint work that they've received. Free to visit and with some great exhibits, this display is worth the small detour (7 kilometres on bitumen) off of the Sturt Highway at Pimba. Each of the exhibits has an easy to read information panel alongside of so you know exactly what each item is.

Very interesting, a lot of information and well maintained. Definitely worth a stop.

Very interesting, well maintained & presented. Disappointingly, both indoor museums were closed for the duration of my visit, but that's life in the outback.

Missile Park at Woomera
Visited on 4/6/2019
I never thought I would be roaming among all these awesome deadly weapons and equipment exhibited in the open air.
On display were planes, rockets, rocket launchers, bombs, as well as some fragments of planes and bombs housed in the fenced area.

An unique park with variety of rockets and good land marks. It's free, no ticket or no booking required. Has free wifi . Near to road, located at the centre of Woomera. Kids will enjoy definitely, and adults too will enjoy. Take very little time to roam around. Great collection and choice. A good place with a bit of history.

Rocket Park Woomera, SA
WOW this was a nice stop. The rocket & plane exhibits were amazing to see. No radiation that I could feel 🤪. Shame the museum was closed for refurbishment.

A free, 24/7 exhibit of 1950s space science and tests. They have the original redstone rocket used to launch Australia's first satellite. All be a crashed first stage of it, still really impressive. Would reccccomend. As a space fan it was truly breathtaking.
