This place has lovely ornaments such as fridge magnets that represent the local heritage.
Plenty of parking available.

This place I remembered visiting years and years ago, they use to have a bigger display and an area out the back to walk around and discover, they have currently got a section blocked off. The plus side is a disc golf section out the front, if it wasn't windy we would of given it a go.

Interesting cave structure mites and tights and veils.
You need to book a viewing time plus pay entry fee. So plan ahead.
Easy access and situated on the main road.

This has to be your first destination in Mt Gambier. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff to give you all the inside information about what to do and where to go in Mt Gambier. So glad we came here. The little hints like you often need to call and book ahead for many attractions saved us a lot of time. 😊 👍

The scavenger hunt for the kids in the regions history display kept them occupied while we viewed the display well worth the few dollars.

I have started going to information centers each new place I travel to and they are amazing, Mount Gambier did not disappoint. Lovely lady came up to me and produced a large map and circled all the places I should go to during my stay. Got some good brochures too. Had a back room showing video of caves and walkway to get there was amazing. Thanks everyone for your efforts, knowledge and patience. Can't be an easy job but you certainly do it well.

One of the best visitor centres we have visited. The staff were friendly, very busy but not at all rushed to move you along. They have a discovery centre ??? Where you can learn all.about the area first settlers, volcano and cave systems. The replica of the lady nelson. It was worth the visit.

Created in 1886, this sunken garden includes viewing platforms, benches, sculptures & walking paths.
Very pretty! Free entry and super interesting history. Definitely a spot to go check out. Beware of the bees, they don’t bother you but they are very present. Very cute spot. On the way there, there is some BBQ facilities and picnic tables.

Loved the visit. Went just after dark & its well lit, looks beautiful by the lights of the night. The possums were adorable and we were able to feed & pat one of them. Will return in the day to see it also. Anyone who has issues with steps may have a hard time, but still beautiful to view from above also.
Amanda Auty — Google review
Very interesting and iconic to Mt Gambier.
I went pre dawn to experience in the dark. Well lit. Magical place. Steep steps down. Was only me, the birds, stars and moon. Very serene.

Nestled amidst lush greenery, this hidden gem unveils a breathtaking sight as you descend into its depths. The sun's rays cascade through the intricately carved walls, casting a mesmerizing glow on the suspended gardens that adorn its floor. The air is filled with the symphony of chirping birds and the gentle rustle of leaves, creating a serene ambience that transports you to a world of tranquility. As you wander along the pathways, the vibrant colours of blooming flowers and cascading ivy embrace you, offering a sense of serenity and renewal. With its ethereal beauty and harmonious blend of nature and human artistry, Umpherston Sinkhole is a truly awe-inspiring destination that stirs the soul and reminds us of the profound wonders this world has to offer. Entry fee $0.

This truly is a wonderful place to visit. Nature created the sinkhole & man has nurtured it to create a spectacular garden which cannot be missed. Watch closely on the steps heading down & you may see some possums walking along the wall edges. For this reason, understandably, no pets allowed in the sinkhole. Very busy when we went because a wedding was beginning and guests were beginning to pour in. The noise from the drone buzzing around for the wedding was super annoying & spoilt the tranquility of the garden. That aside, it's a place that must not be missed!
Nina — Google review
If you pass Mount Gambier make sure you take a look at this beautiful place. They transformed this giant sinkhole into a wonderful garden. Walking around here takes you about 30 minuutjes and doesn’t take a lot of effort. Suitable for all ages.
The garden is really well maintained and worth taking some pictures!
Jan Willem Grift — Google review
First time going to the sinkhole and it’s absolutely gorgeous! Everything is so green and colourful. Loved it!! Because of all the plants there are a lot of bees but they just leave you alone. The atmosphere creates some beautiful photos. The park around the sinkhole is also lovely! The place would make a great picnic spot.
Tayla Bowie — Google review
Been here Saturday evening and then Sunday morning. No too crowded so easy to get into the garden. One of its kind! See birds chasing the insects in the air. Simply amazing as you walk down into the garden where the formation was to sue nature. Definitely worth the visit!
??? — Google review
As a Mount Gambier local, I never really go out and explore what the town has to offer, but when we had relatives come down here for a holiday, we decided to go here.
The Umpherston Sinkhole feels quite surreal both from the top view looking down, and the bottom view looking up. The sounds are very relaxing from birds chirping to water trickling and trees swaying.
This place very well represents Mount Gambier and is probably the best spot to visit if you're a tourist, the Cave Gardens being a close 2nd in my opinion.
Don't be alarmed about the bee hives towards the back, they are very used to having people around and as long as you don't aggressively scare them, they'll leave you alone. If you're still worried, the bees only stick to one small part of the sinkhole, so you can just stay away from them.
The structures and signs are very interesting to look at, and tell a lot about the town's history. There is also a sign with a map, but I've added it to the images below so that you can use it while on the go.
In short, this is a quintessential tourist attraction if you're visiting, so make sure to check it out!

Wow What an amazing garden, it is kept very well. If you want this place to yourself, go there before 8am and it was very quiet and peaceful with the sound of morning birds and silence. I went in the afternoon first around 2pm, lots of people.
Khac Tong — Google review
Great spot close to the heart of Mt Gambier. Lots of car parks available at the Park that also provides areas for a picnic.
Short walk to sink-hole with views from the rim. Steps down into the sink-hole, which is worth the effort. Better views of the hole, the gardens & water feature.
Free activity.
Peter E — Google review
Quite a huge area. There’s a huge parking area, from which you have to make a bit of a walk to this sinkhole. If you have any mobility issues you can experience this from above without getting all the way to the bottom. Stairs to climb up and down. Some even have picnics here. A nice place to visit in Mt. Gambier.
Asara Senaratne — Google review
Such a tranquil and beautiful place with gorgeous lawns and facilities surrounding the sinkhole! So glad we were able to visit twice while staying in Mt Gambier. The first time we arrived at 5pm and it was drizzling, cold and grey. The second time was the next morning at 10am... sun was a little out. Honestly, both times was amazing to visit. Would love to have a picnic in the sinkhole next time and just take in the sights and sounds.
Helen Di Domenico — Google review
Loved this place. Went here later at night and the possums were out feeding on fruit. There were lights on to walk down the stairs and around the sinkhole. Great views. Only need about 30 min to walk around and take in the scenery
Sean Otto — Google review
Umpherston Sinkhole is a truly spectacular and beautiful cave garden. There's convenient parking next to the park, making it easy to access. The expansive park and the sinkhole itself are highly picturesque, though you should watch your step on the somewhat slippery steps leading down into the sinkhole. But once you're inside, the sinkhole itself is absolutely stunning!

Gorgeous place especially those impressive vines! If the local council permits, I reckon this is a good place for a wedding. Beautiful garden and a must-visit in town. No admission fee. Free parking available and you can enjoy picnic at the allocated area. You can bring your pets as well.

This is a tourist spot I thoroughly enjoyed for its beauty. It is an ideal spot for nature photos and feeding possums at night time. It is preferred feeding possums carrots and apples
Aarav Krishna — Google review
Really nice place to visit, free ,fun and interesting. A must see if your visiting Mount Gambier, take your family, kids will have a great time in this uniquely beautiful sink hole.
Brad Stanley — Google review
Beautiful place to relax and get in touch with some nature. Highly recommend returning in the evening with some fruit to feed the possums. They're very friendly, and love a good scratch. A torch is also a great idea for a night venture to the sink-hole.
Great for photos.. day and night!
Kerry Ladiges — Google review
A surprisingly interesting place to explore. Very tranquil and fascinating.
Be aware of the steep steps, but absolutely worth the walk down to the bottom.
Frank Andersen — Google review
Yet another wonder of the nature. Parking can be tricky specifically during long weekends. If parkiis full there is roadside parking. There are some stairs to the bottom of the hole so I don't think it is wheelchair accessible.
Susitha Ravinda Senarath — Google review
Such a beautiful place to explore. Steep stairs take you down into the sinkhole. A path winding down the terraces to the bottom. Several places that you can sit and enjoy the views. Lots of lovely plants creating a beautiful atmosphere. There are toilets at the top and a viewing platform at the top suitable for people who can’t use the stairs.

This is a beautiful place of geological wonder. You can take nice photos here. Our kids enjoyed running around exploring the nooks and crannies with a beautiful backdrop of ferns and flowers. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area or passing by.
The Naracoorte Caves National Park, located about 10km southeast of Naracoorte, is a World Heritage-listed site containing limestone caves that have preserved the fossilized remains of trapped animals for over 800,000 years. These caves feature unique stalactite and stalagmite formations and are home to 28 different limestone caves including Alexandra Cave, Stick-Tomato Cave and Victoria Fossil Cave.
Such a good experience. Did the guided tour for the Alexandra cave and just amazing! The effort the keep these cave preserved is a credit to the park.
Looking at the geological time line in the cave is just such a good reminder or how insignificant our short time is here on earth!! So good amd worth the trip there!!

Visiting Naracoorte Caves National Park was an absolute highlight of my trip! The park is a hidden gem that offers a fascinating journey into the depths of Earth’s history. The cave formations are absolutely breathtaking, with intricate stalactites and stalagmites that leave you in awe. The guided tours provided a wealth of knowledge about the caves’ geological significance and the incredible fossils preserved within. The park staff was friendly, passionate, and dedicated to preserving this natural wonder. The visitor center was informative, providing a great introduction to the park and its unique features. The picturesque walking trails surrounding the caves allowed me to immerse myself in the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a history buff, or simply seeking a memorable adventure, Naracoorte Caves National Park is an absolute must-visit destination!

The cave guided tours are pretty long and comprehensive. Area is well lit, cool, and stable. Our tour guide was great. No complaints (except for the noisy kids asking the wrong questions to our guide)

We had the pleasure of a cave tour with Frank and it was an absolute delight! He is truly one of the best tour guides we have ever had. Frank is incredibly passionate about the history and sustainability of the caves and it showed in the way he shared his knowledge with us. He was able to make even the most mundane facts interesting and engaging.
But what really stood out was his sense of humor. He had us laughing from start to finish and made the tour so much more enjoyable. He was able to balance the fun and the serious aspects of the tour perfectly. He was also very attentive to our needs and made sure we were safe and comfortable at all times.
Overall, we felt very lucky to have him as our tour guide. He made the experience so much more memorable and we would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, passionate, and funny tour guide. He truly went above and beyond to make our tour an unforgettable experience. It was money well spent. Thank you!

What an amazing experience visiting Victoria Fossil Cave today. Huge thank you to Jen for guiding us through and ensuring the boys had a good time. Perfect for families (5yrs+ recommended), bit of a walk (great way to stretch the legs after a long drive) and a bit of a sit down with a story of the cave's history and unique projection on the cave wall. Highly recommended!

We did the Alexander cave today, best world heritage. Staff were so kind and friendly. Cave has its own charm and so beautifully natural made from water. It’s 30 min tour and $21 for adult, but it’s worth of money. Highly recommended!

Fantastic place for families! Would recommend to stay the night as a day trip will not let you experience everything.
Friendly and experienced staff. The caves are beautiful and easy to walk! Visited the Alexandra Cave and the Victoria Fossil Cave which were both so amazing.
!!! Not wheelchair or pram accessible, you need to be able to walk up and down high stepped stairs if you intend to visit !!!

I went when I was younger but now I actually got to spend the time to understand and actually take in all the information. It really is quite spectacular how lucky we are to have such an amazing price of history right here in SA. Worth the visit and even if caves aren’t your thing they have plenty of information above ground and the cafe has delicious food

A nice new looking visitor centre with ample parking a short distance away. Plenty of room for buses and caravans with a loop road accessing the carpark.
Informative guides and interesting displays. My personal favourite is the Stick Tomato cave which is self guided and a pleasant surprise as to how big it turned out to be.

This is a World Heritage Site. Well worth a visit. You can only access one cave without a guide. Tours are at 11.30 and 2.30 I believe. I would book a tour with a guide as they are very knowledgeable.
It's unbelievable really and although it's off the beaten track, make an effort, you won't be disappointed.
There is also a lovely cafe. Try the ANZAC biscuits 😋

We did the Alexandra Cave tour today with tour guide Mark. He was excellent, very knowledgeable and spoke in a clear loud voice so that everyone could hear. The staff in the ticketing were amazing as we had accidentally booked our tour for the wrong time. They were very accommodating and ensured that we got to do our tour still. Great service.

Second visit to the caves and it did not disappoint! We absolutely loved the area, cave system and visitor centre. The guides were great and entertaining, plus seeing the bats in the breeding season was awesome!
A great, classic winery of Coonawarra. A must visit. Fantastic selection of wines, lots of information at the cellar door about the history and uniqueness of Coonawarra. The staff were very friendly and took us through a good tasting.

Lovely Winery, good tasting choices.
One of my top 10 favourite red wines, Black Label Cab/Sav and Shiraz are great value wines. Good mid term cellar potential as well.
You can become a member online and purchase direct, specials sometimes are better than Uncle Dans or other large liquor shops and they do free delivery as well, subject to purchase limit.
If you happen to be around the area give the folks at Wynns a try.

Firstly the grounds and cellar door are just beautiful. We enjoyed wine tasting at the cellar door which was lovely. The ambience is great and our host was so fantastic! The wine is absolutely lovely, we couldn't leave without a few bottles, so happy we visited.

I have been a fan of Wynn's Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon for years. This is the first time I've visited the cellar door.
The tasting has a fee which is waived if you buy a bottle from the range you are tasting from. Ebony was a very hospitable host, going in depth into each wine she poured for me. I appreciated the background and the opportunity to get close to the very first vintage of my favourite Cabernet Sauvignon.
Thanks Ebony!

The heartland of Coonawarra and an absolutely Aussie gem. Wynns produce the most magnificent, highly rated and well regarded wines from the beautiful and renowned terra rossa soil of the region. Go and have a tasting with a cheese platter at their cellar door and take in the beautiful surrounds and heritage buildings. You will love it!

Came here for a tasting, first stop in Coonawarra. Hannah and James were customer service super stars! I love them. We tried the core range for $10 but tasting is refundable on purchase and everything is delicious so very easy to buy! They were so busy but still so attentive. Would definitely recommend.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Wynns Cellar Door in Coonawarra. It was an extraordinary experience that exceeded all expectations. From the moment we stepped through the charming entrance to the last lingering taste on our palates, every detail was crafted to perfection, as were the wines curated to a luxurious experience.
The knowledgeable and passionate staff added an extra layer to our visit. From the moment we walked in, they guided us through the extensive selection of wines with genuine enthusiasm. Their expertise was evident, as they shared insightful information about each varietal, making our tasting experience not only enjoyable but also educational.
One highlight of our visit was the personalized attention we received. The staff took the time to understand our preferences and tailored the tasting experience accordingly. It felt like a truly bespoke journey through the vineyard's finest offerings, leaving us with a profound appreciation for the artistry behind each bottle.
The ambiance, the wines, and the hospitality all culminated in an unforgettable experience. As we left, we couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to savor such exceptional wines in such a picturesque setting.
If you're a wine enthusiast or someone seeking a memorable outing, Wynns Coonawarra Estate is an absolute gem that deserves every one of its five stars. We'll undoubtedly be returning to indulge in the magic of their cellar door again soon.

We had the pleasure and luck of join for a tasting on New Years day. What a way to start the year. Whilst it seemed every person passing through Coonawarra was at Wynns – they staff we just as sensational as the Wines. We particularly loved the extra time and special attention from the team, who showed us a few extra wines – that are rarely available, whilst delivery and very informative tasting session.
We purchased 3 of the Luxury Packs (all premium and limited Reds – yum!) and can highly recommend the Pedro Ximénez for some special occasions.
Great wines, great team, great times!

Sensational. Thank you for the great experience. Just $30 to taste some of Australia's best, premium, award winning and exclusive wines. Best of all - if you buy 2 bottles from the tasting options, then you don't have to pay for the tasting fee.
Great knowledgable staff and ambiance. Will be back to see you again soon.
What can I say…
Driving down the driveway when the vineyard is turning the shade of the sunset…
Arriving at the cute cellar door and being greeted by a lovely lady who was super attentive and full of knowledge about not only Katnook wines but the surrounding region.
We were able to try all the wines and were also made a beautiful cheese platter for our family.
All the wines were unique and delicious!
We have been travelling around Australia for 2 years and this would have have to be one the best experiences at a winery that we have had.
P.S the previous review from the “wine professional” - what a flog!

Stopped here while driving through The region. The wine was good and we ended up purchasing as well. However, wouldn’t say we were welcomed with a smile. The lady seemed unfriendly and said there weren’t seats for children. Basically wanted us to leave the minute we stepped in. Good wines- poor hospitality!

Great experience trying wines and an excellent cheese board! Probably the best Shiraz we tried in the region (the estate).

Not worth a visit.. their icon wines are not available for tasting. The premium wines were average at best, nothing special. I am a wine professional, and the lady giving the tasting told us first thing she is actually a school teacher. The vibe was odd. She offered me to taste wine I was only interested in 2 of their wines (and the icons which I didn't get to taste). I wasn't impressed with her or the wines so after being there within 5 min I was gonna leave. Trying to walk out the door she says we charge $10 tasting fee!! Which was first of all not communicated since she offered the wine to taste. second, I only had 2 tiny tasting glasses. Everywhere else in the region, I tasted way more for free so it came unexpected. But all fine, I paid, but the way it all went down had us leaving with a very bad taste in our mouth. It's our least favourite visit in the region, not worth it, disappointing.
Jelmer — Google review
Went there for paid wine testing experience. While arrangements were made nicely, but explaining each wine details were not good. Wine were poured beforehand rather than giving experience per wine flavour. Cheese platter was bad. Mentioned local cheese but was provided only one cheese. There was rush from staff to complete the testing quickly despite no other guest in queue. Overall very disappointed.

Katnook has been my spiritual home for Coonawarra Cab Sav after I was introduced to Odessey about 20 years ago and I have been a happy consumer ever since. It was amazing to finally get out to the winery in person and my wife and I had a sensational experience on Sunday 29th. Andrea was a wonderful host and made us feel so welcome. The wines and the local produce platter were amazing. As was finding some new drops to take home that I wasn’t previously aware of. We cannot wait to return

Had not heard of Katnook Estate before, but we had Naomi review our wines with the platter for two. We learned a lot with what was a very personal and professional presentation. Well done crew and especially Naomi, your passion for your job was obvious. A wonderful experience and a delightful history lesson (and I'm not usually into history) but this was an exception. We would definitely recommend you to all our friends.

Visiting here on the way home from Mount Gambier to Adelaide. We love the sparkling white here. We ended up buying 3 bottles. The service was excellent. The lady who served us was very friendly made us to stay but we had to keep going to reach Adelaide. We will see you soon in the summer 😊
Limestone cave in Lower Glenelg National Park with tours of its long stalagmites & stalactites.
You will truly enjoy the Princess Margaret Rose Caves. Even though the caves are closed, it is still worth the trip and the walk. Don't be shy. Love the Best journey ever, if you want to explore some more!

Closed but VIC Parks have taken over the campground. The camping is great but the toilets are a long walk, feels odd because it's all closed down, the camping fees were a little rip off due to the facility's issue

Hidden gem in the Nelson area. Shouldn't miss this cave.

Caves are closed and by the look of the office , permanently. We did go on the treks there but they’re not being attended to either and it was a real big disappointment. Was kind of a wasted time really . Could’ve done some other touristy thing.

This review is not about the place itself, which we could not visit, but rather its management - or lack of it. We drove there from Cape Bridgewater, only to find out the place was closed. Nowhere we saw any warnings of it.

Despite the caves being closed, this place is worth a visit to do the walking trail. There is the shorter one to view points on along the river but if you go further there is the 5km loop to Lasletts. Do it all the way to Lasletts camp ground with great views of the Glenelg River, it's definitely worth it😊

This place used to be bustling tourist hot spot , what is left is a abandoned disgrace run down buildings typical of Parks Victoria , damaged signs/ over grown tracks / paint pealing off everything , looks like they just up and left …….
Highly recommend NOT visiting this spot 👎

Princess Margaret Rose Cave is a beautiful little gem set in the Glenelg National Park Victoria, just across the South Australian border. I enjoyed the tour & learning about the formations, the history & how the cave was found. If you’re up for it there is a lovely hike near the caves with breathtaking views of the Glenelg River.
There is a tourist shop at the entrance where you can buy gifts but be warned, the stubby holders are $16! I was stung on the way out as there are no prices on them but I know the money goes to the parks so can’t complain too much.
All in all well worth a look.

Great day and a great adventure , very pretty place . It’s the same as other lime caves but a very enjoyable experience, on arrival you pay your money and walk down a large set of steps to the underground line caves. I suppose it’s very similar to other line caves but it is still very pretty and worth a look

A beautiful place to go see, worth the drive from Mount Gambier. Dogs are welcome but must stay on their lead. An easy path to get to and viewing platform that wheelchairs and prams can go too. There's long drop toilets there, including a wheelchair access toilet. There's shelter and bbq areas as well as easy ample parking. Free place to visit.

Worth a visit.
The rock formation/layers that produced the overhang is so interesting.
Plus it's a waterfall... how can you go wrong (ok... if there is a drought and it hasn't rained, that could be a problem).
Peter Cornell — Google review
Beautiful area to view but the facilities, namely toilets are drop toilets in a building that is infested with spiders, the toilets clearly aren't cleaned with any regularity so the smell and the appearance as beyond disgusting.
It's far enough out the families should use the rest room before they leave, the elderly and children should take particular care.

Despite not being the volume of water previously seen in the last 12 months the falls were an absolute surprise given the rolling countryside. Take the 5 minute detour and the 2 minute walk and see an awesome falls.

Phenomenal falls to view... these and Nigretta Falls are both beautiful and easy to get to, with the viewing platforms being a few steps from the car parks. Highly recommend... maybe its because of all the rain lately, but both falls were full on - absolutely beautiful!

I just want to reiterate that changing timber seats for aluminium seats is not a great idea. Someone who travels and uses parks all the time. The cold alumini and seats on your butt are absolutely horrored .
They need to be replaced because then I'll be replaced with timber ones which would also be more aesthetic to the environment .
There's a community group that look after this area I just want to say thanks.
It's also nice the big oval for the kangaroos to have a safe place as well.
Thanks to the fellow for bringing over the Pinewood for the campfire.
No matter what anyone says This is encouraging bringing in people into an area even if they're not paying for accommodation in a caravan park that's only 5% of the money that they actually spend in the local community.
I understand they're doing update sheds to stop the wind that's really nice but I still think you maintain that mountain cottage fill with a beautiful red gum seat rather than replace them.
Timber has a nice feel whereas I've seen tables replaced in other parts with aluminium or plastic benches and they're really cold to sit on.
Anyway I just want to put forward a vote for keeping the old seats there's nothing wrong with them.
I noticed in the bin it's got hips and heaps of those recycled $0.10 coin cans and bottles and things One of those big mesh depositories are good because you can see all the cans and people don't just jump rubbish in them This would be a good way to do something environmentally conscious and raise a few bucks at the same time.
The nice fella Brian and his lovely wife Heather mentioned there were thoughts to open up the football field I kind of like it nice and open the kangaroos love it too but if you did want to do it and you were concerned about hoons doing burnouts and getting in there and that sort of thing what you need to do is put pine stump logs like you've got around the campground making a driveway in and then surrounding areas for campsites This way you won't get any hoons.

A beautiful destination, but would suggest to come down during end of winter or during spring season.
Picturesque park with a tranquil crater lake & nature trails for picnicking, camping & bushwalking.
Visited as part of a caving trip with the Scouts Victoria Caving team. This national park celebrates the lava fields of a dormant volcano and contains hundreds of caves and crevices both discovered and undiscovered.
The camp ground is great it requires booking and payment via Parks Victoria.
If you are considering going caving please strongly consider taking part in a formal guided tour with reputable qualified and experienced guides, caving can be dangerous and must be treated with caution.

The cave and natural bridge were very very sick looking, but the hiking was quite mountainous for a Friday, I'd suggest trying to go on Sunday.
Unfortunately the colour of the water was pias yellow due to blue green algae
Another unfortunate occurrence was that I forgot to flip my camera 😐

A hidden gem of volcanic features in western Victoria. The caves were a highlight.
We did the 6.5 km lava canal walk, which was strenuous and full of interesting things to see althouh sadly we did not see koalas.
Would love to go back for additional short walks and cultural options. Facilities were very good.

What an ancient and stunning place to visit, this is a must see when in this area.
Strolling around the 6km of rim track and exploring caves and the natural bridge together with a stunning array of wildlife in the area, it is a great way to see all of this.
Though you might not expect it, Cavendish's unassuming Bunyip is easily the best dining experience in Victoria.
All the produce is fresh, the food thoughtful, simple and constantly-changing to best make use of what is in-season and locally available.
This time around we had croquettes, tempura-battered stuffed zucchini flowers, duck galentine with plum sauce, cold tomato soup, slow roasted pork shoulder with a pavlova and nougat parfait for desert. All were stellar.
It's made even better by the atmosphere. Easily the least pretentious place you can experience food of this quality at. Your might be between an insufferable marketing executive and a local bowls club. Between an artist and four guys on their way back from a rabbit shoot.
It's all helped along by the lovely wait staff (Hetty and Olivia, in this case).
I couldn't recommend it enough and will be back in another few months.

The Bunyip has what the restaurants in Melbourne attempt to recreate but just can’t - authenticity. Great food, amazing hospitality and genuine charm. We always love the Sunday Chef’s specials. Well worth a visit if you’re in South West Victoria.

This place is legendary and for good reason. We booked the chefs table lunch on Sunday and were so impressed with the quality of the food and service. Every meal was utterly divine. The exquisite mushroom and cheese croquettes, hand cured salmon, pork belly and brisket cooked to absolute perfection. And to top it off a sublime lemon tart that was really more a citrus creme brulee in tart form. The chefs table changes week to week so I can't wait to go back and try it again!

We had a fantastic night at the Bunyip (helped along by a delicious bottle of local Bochara Pinot) Stayed the night and enjoyed the 5 course chef's selection. The food was beautiful, the atmosphere enchanting and the staff made you feel like one of the family. A Thursday night, the bar was full of locals and the dinning room drew people from far and wide. They have definitely done it right and got the city/country balance perfect. Well worth the detour on our way home from SA and we will be back for a longer stay in the future. Put it on your "to do list" and visit the Bochara winery while you are there.
A pleasant, peaceful park to walk around. Path around and across the small lake. Wood carvings near the old Sawmill. Great views to the Grampian mountain range.

This is a very encouraging project, with the goal of having yes from all around the world. They have a wide selection of plants, all nicely labelled. It's rare to see an arboretum in it's early days - most trees are still in their youth - but in years to come this week be magnificent. Big lake there too, with several types of frogs; you can press a button to hear the sounds that they make.

MacKenzie Falls is a popular destination within The Grampians, about 25 minutes' drive from Halls Gap. It offers stunning lookout points like the Broken Falls Lookout and a refreshing walk to Fish Falls. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Reeds Lookout and Balconies. While swimming is not allowed at the falls, an observation deck provides a great vantage point for enjoying the cascading water.
Good place specially for family in summer and also have Steep walk with lots of steps. For fat people a little be hard to down and up and The signage says no swimming at waterfall (there's no phone signal at the bottom if there's an accident). We dipped our feet and hats in further along the path which was refreshing. A great walk.
Welayat Hussain — Google review
Absolutely stunning and only a small walk to see the main waterfall. If going to the lookout go left, the sign has been a stolen so can’t see and would lead you on a big loop otherwise. The actually waterfall is a steep but moderate climb, the views are certainly worth. There was a rock slide so some access cut off but can still do the massive walk to fish falls
Adam Chiarieri — Google review
Just 550mts walk down the hill to this amazing waterfall. The walk is easy while getting down and while climbing its a bit heavy ( not much - climbing strais).
Its good for a swim down at falls or you can just sit and watch the water running giving a calmer experience.
Good to carry a extra pair of clothes if you change your mind for a quick swim.

Haven't been here for 20 years! So much better in many ways. The paths are great and signage informative. The falls are their usual brilliant selves. Mid march and still flowing well. And yes we can confirm 260 steps to the bottom of the falls. Easy down but a struggle up. Lookouts were well placed.

Bit of a walk down the falls. Lookout points are accessible. Bottom of the waterfall has amazing views and the walk down the falls is wanderful, totally worth it.

Incredible spot. Great views from the first look out above the falls. then a nice easy walk around to the look at that faces the waterfalls. Well worth doing. Then if you have the energy you must walk down the stairs to get to the bottom of the falls for the best view of the falls. Allow plenty of time to explore.
One time in the carpet we were greeted by a kangaroo. Another time an emu.

I experienced the majesty of Mackenzie Falls, and I still find myself thinking about it.
The hike down offers stunning glimpses of the falls, building anticipation for the main event.
Once at the bottom, the sheer power and cascading beauty left me speechless. If you love nature, this is a must-visit in Victoria!

Can we feel how majestic this waterfall is! One of the largest in Victoria. Ya but you have to walk like 2km with return and you'll need to trek down 260 narrow steps to reach the base of the falls, so be prepared for a difficult climb back to the top.
You can go to Fish fall from here but I’ll suggest to from Zumsteins picnic area & Historical site, more easier.
Ummay Safa — Google review
This place is one of the highlights here in Grampians. I love the rainbow on the falls on a hot day. Easy to go down but the climbing back was tough.
The place has well maintained toilets that will refresh you after a hot day of hiking.
Leouel Jr Santos (Eleos Travel) — Google review
I recently visited the falls, and I was truly captivated by the mesmerizing water flow. The entire place exudes beauty and is a fantastic destination for a family outing. However, it's essential to be prepared for a bit of physical activity, as you'll need to descend and climb back up. It's wise to bring water or energy drinks, especially if you're traveling with kids.
I visited during a public holiday, and the crowd was quite significant. Nevertheless, the area outside the falls makes for a delightful picnic spot. There are comfortable seating options available, and you can also enjoy your meal under the refreshing shade of the trees.

The waterfall is really beautiful as you have to walk about 15 minutes down from the parking to reach this beautiful waterfall. The track might get slippery and the weather might be windy so proper outfit is recommended. Loved the beautiful waterfall as we took lots of photos for memories.

Beautiful area. Rushing water, a rainbow, and q blue sky!
I recommend walking down the bottom of the stairs as there's another great walk with river views toward the Zumstein picnic area.
The stairs can get pretty steep so make sure you hold the rail.
Plenty of parking, and restrooms.
Hayden McLachlan — Google review
Probably the most well-known waterfall in the Grampians, but is only accessible up close by descending down a long flight of steps into the gorge. There is another lookout on top of the gorge which offers more distant views and is at the end of a short flat walk from the car park, which itself is just a short drive off Mt Victory Road. It's quite popular so you will probably have to share the place with many others, unless you come early. There is a track which follows the gorge downstream and is less popular.

pretty little waterfall. nothing too spectacular, but the water spray put up a nice rainbow for us. the overhanging sandstone cliffs were stunning and formidable.
came as a tour so the stairs were pretty clustered at one point in time at the bottom of the mackenzie falls. stairs are pretty high on the way up/down too, so not for those with knee problems.

About 25 mins drive from Halls gap and this is what awaits you. The place is one of my favourite place to visit while in Grampians. Beautiful place with great lookout points like Broken falls lookout which is about 180m walk from main entrance point. See photos for views from these points.
On the way you can visit Reeds lookout and Balconies, which is a bonus. Once you visit the falls, the trail leads further 2kms to reach fish falls. If you have time and energy, it’s a walk worth giving a try.
A bit of steep steps as you approach the falls, not recommended for people with joint issues. And slippery surface as well. Be extra careful no matter how good your shoes are.
Toilets and ample parking available. Weather can be teasingly wet, with slight drizzle and sunny. People with pram, might have to leave it in your car boot.

Definitely one of the best places to see the sunrise. Don't care about the weather, even if it overcast, there is a high chance of getting awesome pics...
Barely 2 mins from the car park, super accessible but do mind the kangaroos when you drive towards the Grampians National Park as there will be tens of them on the road, crossing the road or just chilling out

Fantastic high lookout in The Grampians National Park where you can see Hall's Gap & the surrounding country. Once at the carpark the two viewing platforms are easy to access & the views are stunning. Good place for photography.

Great spot for sunrise/sunset depending on time of year (sun sets on other side of the mountains). Wheelchair accessible paths straight to the viewpoints. Be wary of massive potholes on the road up to the lookout, starting immediately off Mt Difficult Rd, some are big enough to sink a wheel, and kangaroos jumping into the road at dusk. Metal barriers now in place.
Quite isolated in that there's no other sightseeing spots on this road, so good only as a photo op.

Let me tell you, the hype about Boroka Lookout is real. I wasn't expecting much, you know, just another scenic stop. But wow, was I wrong! The walk from the carpark was a breeze, even with my dodgy knee. It's a short, paved path that winds through some beautiful stringybark trees.
And then you reach the lookout platform, and BAM! The whole valley unfolds before you. It's like a postcard come to life. I could see Halls Gap nestled down below, Lake Bellfield sparkling in the distance, and the mountain ranges stretching out forever. There's something incredibly calming about seeing such a vast landscape.
I spent ages just soaking it all in. Snapped a few photos, of course, but they just don't do it justice. This is definitely a place you have to experience for yourself. If you're ever in the Grampians and looking for an easy stop with a magnificent view, Boroka Lookout is a must-do.

This is one of the best lookouts in the Grampians, with views along the valley to Halls Gap, Lake Bellfield and Mt William. Unlike other vantage points in this national park it doesn't require any physical effort to get to - just an easy 20 minute 15km drive from Halls Gap via Mt Victory Road then Mt Difficult Road.
Rodney Avery — Google review
Really stunning and breathtaking views. We actually think that the Boroka Lookout was much nicer than the balconies as there are more things to look at. It’s a short walk from the car park and toilet is available nearby. Would recommend.
Celestine — Google review
Very accessible as the lookout is right next to the large carpark, with toilets on site.
Stunning views of Halls Gap and the lakes! Do not try to take a caravan up there whatever you do - there are warnings about this but we saw a van trying to get up anyway. The road is absolutely not wide enough for that, with many potholes and twisty bits. Fine for a car though!
Low-key hotel offering rooms & cottages, some with whirlpool baths, plus a heated indoor pool.
We stayed with family for 2 nights at room 7. Excellent service from the owner Mathew, very cozzy room and well presented and clean. Nice charming personality. He looked after me and my family very well. We enjoyed our food at Black Panther which was just 10 second from my room. Highly recommended.will come back next time.

The whole complex seemed to be run down. The grounds were untidy with long grass everywhere and grass growing out of the gutters. The rooms we had were very run down with old furnishings and furniture and original bathroom and kitchen. It would be great if we could at least say the bed was comfortable but it was the hardest bed we had on our whole two week trip away. As a positive it is centrally located and so an easy walk into town etc.
Margaret Hutchings — Google review
The room size was good, the location is amazing, this place has so much potential but is run down and disappointing. Every time we turned on our kitchen tap it made a sound like a ship coming into harbour. Have covered over the indoor spa, advertised indoor heated pool (the reason we booked here) only to discover they were only heating it to 22 degrees - way too cold (stop being cheap and turn up the temp). They advertised reception being open 8-8 but numerous times they weren’t there, the pool was meant to be open to 8 but the lights weren’t on. The rooms weren’t that clean. Everything is outdated and looks neglected. The service was way too relaxed, not attentive although the people were kind. Time to invest in the business and renovate!

This was a cheap hotel. So for the price it was excellent. Location is A+. Being in the centre of town was super convenient. Views were spectacular when you step outside the door and the sight of kangaroos grazing outside our window in the morning a real treat. The room was very dated and needed a good spring clean (walls, carpets, drapes cobwebs etc) however, the bathroom, kitchen and spa were very clean. Spa worked a treat after hiking all morning. Comfortable bed, but sheets were so crisp, they were actually noisy.

Location: excellent, right behind the shopping strip and cafes
Surrounds: Nice. Kangaroos all over the place and they don’t mind leaving their droppings anywhere and everywhere. Kids love them though.
Rooms: roomy but in need of sprucing up and very ancient. TV wouldn’t work, reportedly the signal fault the management says.
Other establishments seemed to be ok.
If I came back here to visit I doubt I would choose this motel
PETER BURQUEST — Google review
Fairly good accommodation, rooms are old fashioned which isn't a massive issue. The location is a 10/10 with a minute walk from the door of your room to the main street of Halls Gap. There are offered discounts for a restaurant nearby which is good as well. The indoor pool is fairly busy and small but is nicely heated to suit the cooler temperatures.

Accommodation is very basic, out dated and dirty. Our toilet leaked and we had no hot water in the shower. Thankfully we had a spa bath, which had hot water so we were still able to wash. Management offered for us to move to a smaller, more budget room but refused to refund the difference in price.
The only positive thing about this place is the location, right in the heart of the main street and restaurants.

This is a review of my opinion of the room I stayed in (Room 9), as other rooms might might have a different experience
Check in was ok, no problems and staff member was nice. Also warned that wifi might not be stable.
Room was clean and has that old australian motel small to it. Which was nice in its own way.
Couldn't connect to internet at all, tired multiple times with multiple devices.
Bathroom showered leaked, so had to put towels on the floor.
There's a sign that mentions no room cleaning service and please clean up after yourself. Which was easy enough.
Great location, right behind and walking distance (2 minute walk) from the main shop areas in Halls Gap

This place is situated right in the heart of Halls Gap, and the scenery is truly captivating, with mountains enveloping the area. Our group had the pleasure of celebrating a birthday party here, and the manager graciously provided us with the event room at no extra cost. Furthermore, I needed some extra rest due to illness, and the manager kindly extended our check-out time to accommodate. The price is pretty reasonable.

Reasonably priced accommodation. Central location, really close to Halls Gap village and a short drive to the various National Park carparks. The room was warm, comfortable, and clean. You are required to clean and dry your room's dishes before departing which would've been easier if a tea towel had been provided.

Very poor service, check in was at 2.00pm we arrived and our room was not even cleaned the bedding was not changed from previous people and bathroom still had wet towels, the rooms are old and haven’t been up-kept.
I complained and had my room cleaned but the manager was very rude !!! You have to wash and put away your own dishes and you can’t sleep on the doona as that requires washing and you will be charged an extra $20.
The grounds are disgusting no maintenance has been done.
The only great thing is the indoor pool which I must add had to much chlorine so our eyes stung all night ! Definitely won’t be returning!!!!!

Older style, but large rooms, comfortable bedding etc, clean & tidy rooms, centrally located right in midst of shops etc. Paths & driveways are all gravel & were pretty muddy & puddles which you had to walk through from car to room. Always kangaroos around, reasonably priced.

Our stay was very comfortable, with plenty of space, good heating, including electric blankets on the bed (required when we stayed) and a well stocked kitchenette with large fridge. Although the accommodation is old, it is very well maintained and extremely clean.
Location was fantastic, with centre of town and all that it offers, only a 2 minute walk away (if that). Very, very quiet as property is filled with magnificent trees (and the birds that frequent or live in them), lawns and garden, with a couple of bbq and seating areas. Units are well spread out, in separate blocks surrounding all this. Not least is the fantastic view through the trees of the Grampians. Pinnacle Holiday Lodge is definitely a place to return to for us.

This accommodation was in a great location with only a very short walk straight through an alleyway from the lodge to the Main Street shops and restaurants.
As much as room was very spacious and well appointed that was as good as it gets. It was relatively clean but the kitchen left a lot to be desired. The drawers and cupboards were filthy and sticky in places. There was not dish cloth for cleaning the dishes and wiping down surfaces. Considering this room could accommodate at least four people there was no where near enough crockery and cutlery to serve more than two. The hairdryer in the bathroom whilst it worked, was almost in two pieces leaving it a very dangerous electrical appliance. The bed was very dated, hard and uncomfortable, as also were the pillows.

We spent two nights at the Pinnacle Holiday Lodge and enjoyed our stay. The rooms were large and comfortable, and it was fun watching the wallabies hop through the grounds. We enjoyed the location and it’s easy access to the Grampians and nearby restaurants/shops in Halls Gap

Arrived late on motorcycle trip. Expected rooms normally ready by 2 pm, but at 3.30 not ready.
Staff laughed it off. 2 rooms still not ready at 4 pm. Staff giggling as though nothing was out of place.
Then the room. Very run down, cracked and damaged air conditioner, very untidy, flouro in bathroom flickering.
Booked an executive room, sent to what looked like a back packers double roomed dormitory.
Grass all dead, unlike the appearance 12 months previous.
Pitiful, such a pity for a great location and a Business which was so good last trip.

This motel nestled close to nature offers a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle. Surrounded by scenic beauty, it's the perfect retreat for nature lovers. Clean rooms, friendly staff, and breathtaking views – what more could you ask for? Highly recommend for a rejuvenating getaway

The location is great.
We stayed there about 3 years ago and it wasn't too bad, this time you could see how much it's being neglected, the freezer was not usable as it was one big blo k of ice, hasn't been defrosted In years.
The bbq is not usable either, it was filthy.
The windows had thick cobwebs.
Yes it's a cheap place to stay but it's no excuse to leave it so dirty.

I only stayed one night, in late October. Primary advantage is central location, just behind the main shopping strip in Hall’s Gap. Our room had seen better days, carpet was quite worn and the walls needed a bit of a wash with sugar soap, seemed to be a bit darkened from soot from the gas log fire (the ceiling & walls around the fire were quite dark). The log fire itself ignited easily the first time we used it, couldn’t start it a second time. The hot tub spa & split cycle heater worked well though. The coffee table was propped up against a chair as one of its legs had fallen off. I only paid $162 for the night, whilst my expectations weren’t high for that price the room really needed a renovation to bring it up to a modestly reasonable standard.

Brilliant location.
Please get the carpets and furniture in each room professionally steam cleaned, they are filthy.
The indoor “heated” swimming pool is not heated. The playground is old and too dangerous for small kids to play on. The WIFI didn’t work in our room and we needed to walk outside closer to the middle of the “lodge” to get reception.
This lodge definitely requires some money being spend on updating the rooms, pool, wifi strength and play equipment.

Managed by five Koori communities and Parks Victoria, this centre provides an immersive experience into local history and culture through traditional stories, music, art, dance, tools and photographs.

information center open, but cultural center/museum closed due to water damage(?). cafe was also closed. information center sells a number of nice and interesting souvenirs and local products. worth checking out, but probably only indeed the cultural center is open. walking through to a large grass patch after the cultural center found us a number of emus and a few kangaroos!

What a wonderful spot! Lots of info and beautiful setting. Emus, wallaby and heads of large birds on the grounds. Creek out the back is awesome if you can get down to it.

Unsure to what has gone on here in the past or what the future plans are. the place has so much potential yet it would appear to be on hold/paused/mothballed …. just not sure. 🤔 Worthy of a walk around.

There’s a little walking trail here but nothing special. Better off going to Halls Gap Botanical Gardens if you’re looking for a nice easy stroll. I was in and out of the centre for 2 mins. Didn’t receive much help, recommendations or enthusiasm from the staff about where we can go for a nice walk. They have maps here but it is not free.

The Brambuk the National Park & Cultural Centre is an excellent information facility located in Halls Gap to visit. It is in quick walking distance from the town centre along a well designated path. Staff are knowledgable and friendly, offering good advice on the features of the region. Maps for the various parts of the park and walking trails are available for purchase. Within the centre, the outline of indigenous history in the area is respectful and informative. The designated walks within the park and fairly easy and many forms of wonderful flora and fauna are to be seen. Brumbuk is well worth a visit if in Halls Gap!

The original building which has been here for years is closed sign says it’s going to be renovated. The information centre has little information available which I was very disappointed. There is a gift shop but was a bit expensive. Was hoping to get a good map with clearly showed all the wonderland and surrounds walks. There doesn’t seem to be one available anywhere in Halls Gap. inside there is also a cafe which was closed, possibly effected by covid lack of staff. It has a lovely outside eating area. So when that is open as I assume it will be at some point or maybe only in peak times it would be a lovely lunch spot. There is a couple of walking tracks but not much to get exited about. Lots of parking.
Shez H — Google review
Staff seemed completely disinterested in even beginning to assist with explaining the layout of the place when you walk in. From what I could gather from wandering around, it is supposed to be an educational centre, but all the different buildings were closed and the grounds were all overgrown and dilapidated looking. I was hoping to learn some information about the indigenous people of the surrounding area, but there wasn't really anything informative there. Pretty disappointing for something like this in such a high traffic location like Halls Gap.
Brogdon Galvin — Google review
I remember when this was being built and although it still looks good, some of the displays are getting tired, although the information is still good.
Located just outside of Halls Gap you can walk or ride along well made paths.
Inside is a small cafe where you can dine on fresh food and refreshments.
Outside are some excellent interpretation boards that give a history of the area and the life prior to white settlement.
The retail shop is extensive with lots of interesting items.
There is plenty of parking under the shaded gums. The place is wheelchair friendly and in fact you can motor on your wheelchair from town to the centre.
Very kid friendly with lots for the little ones to do.
I would say you could spend at s minimum and hour here. There are tours available as well.
Enjoy.

The staff are friendly, welcoming and full of knowledge that they are happy to share.
The artwork and items for sale are all authentic Indigenous, which is really important for integrity and for the artists creating such beautiful items. Lots of choices for fabulous gifts here!
There is a good range of books to extend and deepen one’s knowledge — there is always more to learn— and lots of free information for visitors and campers in the area.

A must see/do experience whilst visiting the Grampians. The film is very entertaining with the history of the area, from many perspectives. The cafe & gift shop are a delight. Try the Lemon Myrtle Scones with a coffee.... unreal, delicious. A memorable experience.
Nestled at the base of the stunning Grampians mountain ranges, Halls Gap Zoo offers an enriching experience with over 160 species of native and exotic mammals, reptiles, and birds. This regional zoo is perfect for families, featuring animal encounters and endangered species breeding programs. The wheelchair-friendly 2.
Our family had a fantastic day at the Halls Gap Zoo. The zoo offers great experience with seeing many different kinds of animals! The animals are well looked after and they are very adorable! And if you buy the bag of the food, you can feed the animals like deer and wallabies! Happy experience for me to interact with the cute animals! Highly recommend to visit!

Excellent zoo. The animals are all really well cared for with well maintained enclosures.
Pathways and gates are accessible and well maintained. The walking is easy, even for people with mobility issues - there are plenty of places to rest along the way, too.
You get to see the animals better here than at Melbourne Zoo. The keepers are friendly and volunteer lots of great information.
The animal encounter experiences are excellent — super enjoyable and very informative.

We loved it here. What a great zoo!! There’s just something about being in a zoo where the animals appear more in their element. Definitely a must see if you’re visiting the area. Perhaps a tad expensive for entrance fee as it might deter other families from going to see and visit. There is no food facilities inside so make sure to bring some drinks and snacks.

Amazing place and so much to see this zoo will impress with it size amount of animals and how well kept and clean the place is. All the staff were super friendly from the staff feeding the animals to the coffee and food kart. Rhinos and giraffes were a surprise and really like the well placed play and rest areas for a lunch break. There are even bbqs for people to have a great time. Thanks again.

Great experience. The zoo is much bigger than expected. Expect to spend at least 3 hours here if walking around to every exhibit. Cute deer and really up and close experience with the cheetahs and giraffes. Quite unique and we think this is comparable to any of the major zoos like Werribee open range or Melbourne Zoo.

Beautiful animals, and the staff were all absolutely wonderful. It was great to see them interact with the primates, it's clear they love and care for them so well.
It was difficult to see some of the animals in enclosures that were clearly too small (looking at you, crocodile), but there are plans to extend, which is great.
The day was HOT, do the lack of shade along the property was pretty noticeable.
The primates were so freaking cute and my wife and daughter had a ball in the meerkat experience. Definitely be going back💙

Had a great time! Deer roam free and eat from your hand unlike other animal attractions where kangaroo and wallaby are the norm. Nice variety of animals including a recent addition of Asian otters (on Good Friday 2023)! The enclosure for the otters is well done with a great viewing area of their swimming area. There are 2 playgrounds where the littles can release some energy. The swamp area maintained from an ancient spring is so natural you can imagine being transported back in time. The entire zoo is easy to traverse with prams or mobility equipment with exhibits having low viewing windows so everyone can enjoy all the animals. The zoo is growing and great things are happening. Will return often!

Amazing place! Recommended to do an animal encounter. They take high quality photos and email it to you included in the encounter price. Easy to get around for wheelchair user. Majority of the grounds are flat and accessible! The viewing of animals are great. Set up well! Buying tickets online didn't make much of a difference when entering zoo. But it was hardly a line when we entered , sunday morning 11am

Having grown up in Halls Gap when I was much younger, I don't think I knew this zoo existed back then. Imagine my surprise when I moved back into the area and heard about the zoo!
In what is a wonderfully spread out and quite open zoo, the interactions with a number of animals was absolutely lovely and wonderful.
I'd gladly go back again. The animal experiences are quite fantastic too. I had a lovely time with the dingos! Hoping to experience the Meerkats next!

Highly recommend the Zoo, wear comfortable shoes as you will get your steps up. The zoo is well maintained and the variety of great animals is impressive. The deer run wild in the common areas, which you can feed with pellets that you can purchase when buying your tickets.

Been to a few zoos travelling around, we also got the personal rhino encounter which was awesome, staff were great, animals just wandering around that you can pat (deer), a very natural Australian bush feel with more of a up close and personal approach to looking at and learning about different animals....if you love the wild.... Come to this place.... 👌👌👍

Lovely place to visit, all the animals are so cute and staff are lovely :)
The deer that roam around are very friendly but make sure you have a good grip on the treat bags, they have a habit of tipping the feed all over the ground

Gorgeous zoo based at the foot of the Grampians that allows you to wander at your own pace through the exhibits. Very up close interactions with the animals who are well taken care of with plenty free roaming that you can feed. Brilliant staff who are super friendly and helpful.

Always an amazing experience to visit Halls Gap Zoo. I went specifically to see their baby spotted tailed quolls and was not disappointed. Their staff let me know when to expect feeding and their most active times and the keeper who did the feeding was incredible.
Halls gap zoo is an incredible zoo with large enclosures and fascinating enrichment for the many animals they care for and I am already planning my next visit!

What an awesome wildlife zoo!! Zookeeper was super friendly and happy to chat/educate us as she was feeding the animals. It was quite hot when we went so we didn't see some animals as they were hiding and keeping cool (which also meant we didn't get to see the baby capuchin monkey!) The deer were ravenous for the food and I wish we had gone for more than 2 packets as we got through it so quickly and one specific deer kept gnawing at my shirt to get more food 😂
The best part was feeding the wallabies as they are so gentle and sweet but not all animals are food focused so don't be sad if one ignores you. Lots of animals roaming around and you will definitely get a good amount of steps in. If it weren't so warm, we would have gone around twice again.
The souvenir shop was great and I was a little indecisive but the staff are great and I don't mind splurging a bit more since it's going to a zoo. Great selection of stuff!

Wow Rob was a great tour guide. The stories he told were interesting and hair raising as well. This place has lots if history. So well presented and well maintained. Rob asked if we wanted to see the 12 min DVD with some of the prisoners on and yes that was worth it. One prisoner or should I say patient believed he was Princess Margarets partner and waited for the queen to release him. He had to have his front teeth removed cos he had a habit of biting people! Sad that people were locked up like this but some were extremely dangerous. I am really can’t recommend this place enough

Peter was our tour guide and he was great. Telling us historic facts and interesting stories that have happened at this place over the years. Our tour had quite a few people in it, and am glad we were able to get on it, it would have been better, I feel, with less people. I would like to have more time to read all the stories of the inmates. Otherwise, it was certainly a good way to spend a couple of hours in Ararat.

We have always driven past on our way to Melbourne.....good timing it was open and the tours started a little earlier school holidays.....we had Harry as the best guide, very knowledgeable and informative about the history of J ward, to think it was still functioning until 1991!!!
A must to see and visit! Highly recommended 👌

We enjoyed our visit, loved learning and hearing about its history. Highly recommend a visit! We did however find ourselves torn between listening to the tour guides awesome stories or reading all the other stories (or get left behind :)). Would come back, maybe a self-guided tour would also be a nice alternative to pace ourselves?

I selected to do a guided tour rather than wonder around on my own. It was really great and well worth the money, especially since all ticket sales go towards maintaining the place. I was lucky to be the only one there on Sunday afternoon, so I got the VIP experience with Harry.
I found him to be very knowledgeable and more than happy to answer any questions I had. Harry had plenty of stories to tell and even his very own personal link to JWard. I got to wander around the jail section by myself for 15mins at one point but the highlight was getting to go up into the guard tower.
I recommend doing a guided tour as you'll get to see sections of the place that you'll not be able to see wandering around on your own.

We did the 6 hour tour on the 2nd July with Jasmine & there were 11 people on the tour. It was so fascinating being able to communicate with the spirits, got some great responses when using the equipment from the spirits. Jasmine was an awesome guide taking us round to different buildings that we hadn't been on the shorter tour. Using the equipment to communicate was great. Will plan to do another 6 hour paranormal investigation soon. Well worth coming to Aradale.

We went on the extended 4 hour tour last night. I personally think the large group was too big for this type of tour. Not only was it our group, but there were several on the property at the same time, which made it extremely hard to hear, see, or get into the vibe. Our guide, who was very knowledgeable about Aradale just didn't have the tools to capture the audience and convey the stories.... something that will come with more experience. The 4 hours became very repetitive and due to covid was mostly outdoors. A few suggestions for those who are about to embark on a tour..... wear enclosed shoes, take plenty of water (even a small insulated bag with some) along with a snack, and..... the most important item to take... BUG SPRAY. The mosquitoes were horrendous!

We did the extended 4 hour tour. Our guide provided excellent history and humour to the experience. It was sometimes difficult to hear her due to the size of the group, so maybe limiting numbers would be a better idea, however overall a creepy and interesting experience.

We returned to Aradale for the 2nd time for the 6 hour paranormal investigation because we enjoyed our visit so much last time. Travelling all the way from Adelaide.
This time we were fortunate enough to have Sage as our guide and omg!! She was amazing and so knowledgeable. It’s so obvious to see how passionate she is about her job.
As my friend and I have investigated quite a lot, she left us to do our thing and was just there if we needed her, which we did many times, just because the place is an absolute maze and we surely would have gotten ourselves lost without her help.
This place is so active! It’s the only place we have investigated where we have had to turn the music box off because it was being activated so often and was becoming annoying 😆
If you love the paranormal and are fascinated with abandoned asylums, do yourself a favour and visit Aradale! You will not regret it! Or maybe you will…… 👻
Thank you so much Sage!! You were fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed spending the night on Mad Man’s Hill with you. We can only hope we are lucky enough to get you again when we visit for the third time!

Did the Friday night 2 hour ghost tour with Dahlia and learned the history of the place as we went between buildings and even visited the morgue. The following night we attended the 6 hour investigation with Jasmine and Scooby. All 3 of these guides were awesome, scooby was in particular amazing. We certainly managed to communicate with spirits with their ghost equipment. They even let us roam areas to hunt by ourselves. Would love to go back and investigate again and do the 4 hour ghost tour.

Brilliant. From arrival to departure you become absorbed in your far from welcoming environment. There were on a few occasions I could feel the hair stand up on the back of my neck and I'm a sceptic! The tour guide absolutely suited his role, although I think a bit of captain jack sparrow might have creeped in. Anyway, a great tour and highly recommended. Last night (Saturday 14/05/22) I did the Ballarat Walking Tour with our guide Damian. He was an incredible storyteller, his wit and passion made it that much better. The heritage buildings were beautiful to see and history behind them made it that much more interesting. We were lucky to have good weather and a FULL MOON. 🌚 It went for 2 hours but I wish it went longer, I could have listened to his stories all night. If you want to go to a chilling, eerie and visit an intact part of brutal history, this is the tour. We had seen many you tube paranormal videos on the asylum, and it was definitely the place with many stories, haunting feelings and very memorable experience. Our guide Daria (I hope that’s right) was very in touch with the spirit world, and told many stories that are unexplained, and was a wealth of knowledge of the history of Aradale.
We have many photos of orbs, and an unexplained experience either a fan spinning at high revolutions in doors on a still night, which stopped on our guides request, and started again when she said we were not here to hurt anyone, and that they could continue playing.
My partner had an overwhelming sudden sickness in one part, and definitely felt the presence we were not alone, with unexplained noises and movement. We are certainly back for the full paranormal investigation tour.
What an amazing place, tour and sad part of our history with terrible treatments.

We had a great tour thoroughly enjoyed ourselves got lil spooky at times I felt a very cold wind go past me and my partner felt something brush his leg . But a great big shout out to Lithium who done an amazing tour and when it was over the whole team at aradale helped us out and went above and beyond for us when our car wouldn't start. Lovely wines, great service, busy place but it was all good. Delicious charcuterie board with the wine tastings, we will be back! Live music too.... and cute dogs. Great range of wines, something for everyone. Perfect day out.

It took far too long for us start our pre booked wine tasting. Once things started they were going well before we were once again forgotten and it seemed people who just walked in were served ahead of us. They were under staffed and lacked any personal service. The wines were generally good but we had much better experiences in more personable & picturesque wineries nearby

What an unexpected fun afternoon we had at Taltarni Vineyard on Wednesday. We were planning on popping in for a bottle of Champagne, 2 hours later we left having enjoyed a very funny afternoon. It could have been used for a pilot for a comedy show! What made it special was Lilly their Sommelier. Can't thank you enough for the entertainment and your expertise. By the way did I mention the fantastic Wines Taltarni have! the Sparking Shiraz is to die for along with there red and white ! Can't wait to come back for a picnic on a Sunday and listen to your bands. Thanks again Lilly an absolute please meeting you! A great find Taltarni!

Fabulous winery, great atmosphere and lovely wine. The staff member who was working had been left short staffed but was incredible- she kept smiling throughout even though she was run off her feet. She was very knowledgeable and engaging and did an amazing job keeping everyone happy, pretty much by herself.

Came through a couple of months ago, without a booking, and was looked after beautifully. Was reminded to write a review after I opened a Mourvedre tonight. Service was great, and I regret I can't remember the name of the lady who served us, but she was a great representative for the region. Cheers!

Had such a wonderful afternoon, awesome wines. Great facilities. Host Lily was insightful and a pleasure.
Well this is not your usual winery where they only serve wine and pizza.
I was blown away that it was different. Pity it’s so far away but if whoever is reading this, it’s a great place to have lunch and try the local produce. But, YOU MUST BOOK IN ADVANCE.

I am most impressed by Blue Pyrenees Estate. Recently, as a wine club member, I was hand-delivered a pack of old vintage wines in recognition of my birthday. This was a wonderful surprise. Highly recommended for its quality wines and personable service.

Just had the most enjoyable lunch today at Blue Pyrenees Winery .
Linda the cellar door manager is friendly, knowledgeable and makes the best platters.
Sitting outside , under the verandah, listening to the cicadas, looking at the gum trees and blue sky together with the the delicious, generous platter and lovely wines , great desserts and coffee made for a great day. It’s your choice to dine outside, or inside in air conditioned comfort.
From bubbles, reds, rose’, and whites Blue Pyrenees Wines and Cellar Door Platters are the best.
Definitely worth a visit if you haven’t been.

I was really looking forward to coming out here today. I had heard really great things from a friend. The venue is pretty and the set menu local food platter was nice and we paired it with a lovely Chardonnay. Unfortunately, the overall experience was not great though. We asked for a wine tasting and it was the worst one I have had. We were asked to move inside, which is fine, but the server promptly forgot about us. Our food sat outside in the sun with the flies while he reused our glasses for whites, reds and sparkling and could not recommend even one to have with our meal.
We then asked for more bread, which I had to ask for three times, it was over 20 mins before it came. We also asked for another bottle of wine but the server never came back.. they then cleared our glasses .. so had clearly forgotten us again. It was not that busy considering it was a set menu! Ended up leaving without buying anything to take away although we wanted to. Disappointed.

The wine and the food are exceptional. Whether you are a red, white or sparkling fan. It's all very very good.
The share platter for two is always great and changes with the season.
The staff are friendly and welcoming.
Enjoy a day out in the Avoca area.

Awful experience at the winery today, the male attendant running the wine tastings offered ZERO explanation of any of the wines, no order or method to the tasting and had an unfriendly poor attitude in general. Despite many tables and plentiful space they were only capable of doing three tastings at a time! There was an hour wait on food and despite advertising a cheese or food platter to accompany a wine tasting they were unable to offer this service! Wont be recommending or coming back!

As part of our Victorian regional escape we called into Blue Pyrenees Estate, our hosts Linda and Phil helped us enjoy a fantastic afternoon, we shared a wonderful platter with a hot and cold selection (bring your appetite!) then some lovely wine tastings, the sparkling Rose and Shiraz were just delicious, the staff here are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable who absolutely enjoy and take pride in their environment, thanks again for making Blue Pyrenees a "must" visit. We joined the wine club as well offering great discounts and will look forward to receiving our regular deliveries, Merry Christmas all, best wishes, Therese and Mick.

A lovely place for lunch and amazing sparkling shiraz.
This place is really worth a look. Aside from the well reviewed food (which we didn't have) the station has been beautifully restored - hard to believe it only cost $1.6 million - probably would cost that much for a feasibility study in Melbourne and the detail is fantastic.
Grant Campbell — Google review
After receiving state funding from Heritage Victoria the magnificent Maryborough Station underwent a 4‐year three-stage restoration of the façade, the slate roof and clock tower and glazed lantern covering the main carriageway platform completed in 2012. It is a tribute to the Victorian Railways, Architectural Works Department completed in 1890 as an outstanding example to the school of Victorian railway architecture developing a regional rather than national or international modern style. It is one of the finest examples in the country of Queen-Anne architecture which displays many hallmarks of the Anglo‐Dutch style which is enlivened at the roofline with gables and an asymmetrically placed clock tower.
During the 1970’s much of the original facade ornamentation, the orbs, pedestals and ball-caps and rendered octagonal chimney crowns were sadly removed. These were carefully re-cast and reinstated as part of the restoration programme. The exterior was re-rendered using Adelaide ‘Brightonlite’ yellow-ocher oxide cement render. The residents of Maryborough were delighted with the result and applauded its face-lift and remarked “this is how it was meant to be” and how they could remember the way the station looked originally.
An outstanding feature of Maryborough Station is its long platform covered by a continuous glazed lantern at the apex. This is said to be the longest single platform outside the Melbourne region and measures 1010 meters including the rail motor sidings. Today, Maryborough Station operates an art gallery emporium, a fully licensed restaurant in the grand dining hall (thanks Lloyd) and VLine post and freight services for passenger and goods trains. Maryborough Station is an exceptional country Victorian attraction and well worth the visit. Thank you and all the best, Chris Wilmar

The Ballarat Botanical Gardens reserve is a wonderful place to visit with kids. It has a variety of trees and plants, as well as a conservatory that features different types of plants. The gardens are also great for a summer picnic.
Beautiful garden with flowers in bloom even in autumn.
Park was clean and well maintained. The playground is huge and also provides a public outdoor gym facility.
Decorated with statues and busts of past prime ministers and a greenhouse.
Lots of different birds which include black swans by the lake nearby.

We thought this was a really nice surprise of a place to wander through. It's ideal because if you are a tourist (like us) you can also wonder across the road and visit Lake Wendouree and if travelling with kids the Adventure Playground is nearby too.
What we loved was the statues throughout the gardens, including the walk featuring all the prime ministers.
I believe there was a cafe nearby too however there's loads of lawn areas to stop and have a picnic.

It's one of the best Botanic gardens I have seen. The Avenue of Prime Ministers was wonderful. The greenhouse is probably the most beautiful I have encountered in some time, with the floral and colour arrangements, incredible for a relatively small greenhouse! And the giant American trees; wow!
Well-worth a picnic and visit with Wendouree Lake alongside! Just a sparkling area, with the tramway museum, also a must-see!

The gardens are meticulously maintained, and the variety of plants and flowers is astounding. The Rose Garden is a sensory paradise with its vibrant colors and sweet fragrances. Walking along the Prime Ministers Avenue, you’ll learn about Australia’s history while enjoying the shade of majestic trees.
The Alfred Deakin Prime Ministers’ Fountain is a tranquil spot to unwind, and the swan-filled lake adds to the overall serenity. I could spend hours here, exploring the diverse plant collections and taking in the natural beauty.
The gardens also offer a range of activities and events throughout the year, making it a fantastic destination for families and nature enthusiasts alike. I can’t recommend Ballarat Botanical Gardens enough – it’s a peaceful and educational escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
If you’re in Ballarat, do yourself a favor and pay a visit to this botanical paradise. You won’t be disappointed!

A delightful day all round. The Begonia Festival was truly a sight to see, beautiful.
The Botanical Gardens themselves stand alone, and are well worth the traveling time from Melbourne. The trees in these gardens are old tall and majestic. Unfortunately l didn't think to take pics of them, but plenty of flowers. The Begonia Festival is held on the Labour Day long weekend and provided free for all to enjoy by the municipal of Ballarat.
There's a lot to see in this lovely town so pack a picnic lunch as we did and make the most the day.

MUST SEE IN BALLART
Beautiful, big, relaxing and colorful. This Botanic Gardens have the most beautiful flower collection from different types of Dhalias to the larger exhibition of begonias. The experience of the living nature of the flora and the fauna (bees, ladybugs, black swans and ducks) it's AMAZING.
Highly recommend 👌🏻

I have been to few Botanical gardens but this location without a doubt was one of the most diverse gardens. It’s got a garden with glass house, a restaurant, a tiny island (Windmill Drive island), a boat hire, an adventure play ground for kids and guess what !!! and even a Tram museum with an actual tram that you can ride in.
Near Edward VII pavilion is where you can find benches facing the river Wendouree. That gives you an opportunity to enjoy the scenery of river and birds. There also parking spots for cars.
Have a small hike along river via Windmill drive and across the road you will reach entrance to the gardens. Good collection of different flora and fauna. With a beautiful sculpture house within the gardens. The team museum is close to adventure playground but make sure you book tickets.
Kids and elderly friendly. Heaps of parking. Will definitely recommend for travellers.

Beautiful gardens to explore with a lovely pond full of fish, animal topiary & flower beds. We had a lovely walk & or kids enjoyed it too. It was a bit rainy, so we got warm drinks from piper's cafe over the road first. There was quite a few upgrades ongoing but it didn't detract from the stunning gardens.

Really nice spot. We don't have lakes where we live and so found this to be really nice, the style of buildings in this area set a really lovely scene when looking out across the lake and bird life was abundant.
We stopped to see at a few different points around the lake, the adventure playground, and some of the boat houses were great. This is also a great spot to go for a jog or just stroll along the walking tracks.

The McCartney photo exhibition was excellent, and a great reason to return to Ballarat and visit the gallery for the first time in around a decade. I've always enjoyed every time I've ever come here, seeing new sides to existing exhibits and enjoying what special events are hosted here. The modernisation of this incredible asset over the past couple of decades has been sensational, and a real sense of pride for the wider Ballarat area.

The gallery resides in a beautiful building that dates back to the town's gold rush boom years.
Free entry to see a great collection of Australian and European art with some dating back to 1800 or earlier. There were also temporary exhibitions and modern art installations.
Apparently only 2% of their art is able to be displayed there at any one time so it may be worth a follow up visit later on.

Casual cottages with fireplaces in a low-key farmstay featuring trout fishing & dining.
We had an amazing experience. The kids and our dog loved exploring the property and getting to know the resident team of dogs, horses and chickens. Kids will never forget their first fishing experience. Robert is font of knowledge who provided us with a behind the scenes insight into trout farming and the many foods that Tuki makes. Lunch and dinner is delicious. We definitely plan on returning.

Great relaxing setting, great produce to platter experience but trout from a river tastes much better. A salad with the fish was missing. Nice wines and craft beers. Lamb pie was minced meat, bakery style not home made, chunky meat pie. Definitely recommend it for the experience and setting, not as much the food.

Absolutely 10/10 perfect if you’re looking for a relaxing, quiet, off the grid, & charming place to stay in amongst some of Victoria’s greatest food and wine offerings. Don’t expect 5 star hotel, expect breathtaking views from your cabin where sunrise & sunset blow you away. Expect a comfortable cottage with character. The restaurant views are no different. The food is quality living off the land type home cooking that fills the belly nicely. Put your phone away and relax as you walk around the farm taking in the magic of rural beauty. It is located an easy drive away from an array of quality dining in the region. The owners Robert and Jan are very friendly and welcoming. Bring snacks and whatever you need to get properly immersed in the surroundings. The perfect place to base yourself to reset.

Finally our family was able to get our first experience in trout fishing. Overall was a good experience. Receptionist had a bit of a problem in giving us a table for lunch, as we hadn't booked it. But it was not mentioned at the time we called them. Any way with a little bit of a grim face, she allowed us to have lunch there. (She even said we can write a bad review for that)

Beware the elderly, male Karen, and probably senile waiter will verbally abuse you while ordering, serve differently to what you ordered and charge for more than you were served! The fishing is fun, easy for the kids. The food beyond amazing, hand made sausage rolls were a delight. The venue very unique and worth the drive. We booked for 14 people and were well catered for.
The male owner was unusually upset that my 14 month old had scrunched a single paper printed menu sheet, I apologized and offered to pay, however he went on about it for so long and loud that others noticed and turned to look at me. He stood over us at the dim lit table, then snatched it from my childs hand, continued on about how terrible it was until I started crying.
Until that point it had been a wonderful experience.

The older lady( I believe the owner) very unwelcoming and rude!!!
Felt as we were not meant to be there!!
Food overpriced and bland, potatoes dry, sauce hardly there, fish had no seasoning.
Steak full of fat, hardly any meat!!
Menu is priced as a main meal, but served as shared meal, uneven serving sizes.
Waited on meal for over an hour.
Best part of the meal was the chips, which we can get them at Maccas, on every corner.
Rest rooms very dirty !!!
This was my first and definitely last time visit!!
Don’t waste your time going !!!

I love this place. So typically Aussie, friendly and inviting. We caught our trout and had a bang up lunch. Robert the owner looked after us like gold and was the perfect farmhouse host. I would recommend anyone to visit, explore, fish and feast. All ages welcome.

A gorgeous warm homely place for lunch in all 4 seasons. I love thé fish and lamb dishes, warm wood fire place and friendly honest hospitality.
Coming here every year for 20 years. And hope to return many more.
Watching the lambs gambol is part of the joy.

Loved my day here! We caught a lot of trout and had them for dinner! Staff was friendly and very helpful. And the dog there was the cutest!
(also one staff member complimented my shirt, made my day :D)
We had an absolutely delicious lunch here on a warm autumn day sitting outside on the balcony. The staff were attentive, the food was top class and the organic wine was delicious. I recommend starting with a glass of the sparkling. Will definitely be returning!

There are many family-owned vineyards tucked away on country roads that are worth a visit, and Captains Creek is one of them. We had the charcuterie lunch for two, with an extra cheese, and it was an unexpected treat.
The ingredients were locally sourced and Greg and Carolyn - the owners of this family farm - were well versed in the who, what, and where of each dish. They are also lovely people, there's none of the hard sell I've experienced at other wineries here, which is both appreciated and makes for a more mellow time.
I paired my lunch with the Pinot Noir and it went down very nicely, with my only frustration that as the designated driver, I couldn't indulge in more.

Good town to live in, got ice-cream for $8 and it was better then what you get in the city, and saw lots of good looking cars new and old, and while I was there went to a local market didn't get anything but there were lots of cute and well made goods.

Great fun riding the old rail carriges behind a steam train through the country side, smelling the smoke and hearing the sounds of the loco .

A quaint little railway station that has a small store selling food, drinks & souvenirs. You can catch the historic steam train here towards Castlemaine or arrive here on the same service heading in the other direction.

A trip back to the old train days - a quick stop is worth the effort.
