How can you not love a clever wire sculpture of an elegant flying piggie? We had a brief comfort plus coffee stop - barely caught the cafe as it closed, so continued across the river and found a shady tree on the Coona Rd. Excellent coffee, need to come back to Gilgandra for a proper look. But, that flying piggie!

Have not called in for a while. Amazing fixed displays especially the co..eee March. Also I loved the fossil exhibit.
Went out back to the little coffee shop. The young lady was delightful
Also the front desk inquiry officer was busy answering questions. Beautiful clean toilets. The ladies loo had a stunning photograph on the wall. Breathtaking

Excellent place to stop and explore on the way to Warrumbungle or Kaputar, all new and now with a small cafe. Do not expect much of souvenir shopping.

The Coo-ee march exhibition is so interesting, comprehensive & moving.
The staff are very friendly & helpful.
Fully recommend allowing enough time for a proper visit. There's a cafe there too!

Found my Great Grandfather's recognition and details as among the first 25 of those men from Gilgandra to march to Sydney for WW1. 1915. So Proud of those locals
Not far from town. What a lovely place. There’s a variety of honey to taste before buying. Lots of varieties to choose from and there’s choc honey comb chocolate for sale as well. Small cafe in the front which sells honey flavoured ice creams. Car park available on site. Highly recommended.

This was a great surprise as I have never seen such a comprehensive display of honey related items. From the different pollen flavoured honeys, to therapeutics, to wines they have it all. It was also nice to be able to talk with the knowledgeable staff about the produce and their obvious passion for their products.

We were driving from dubbo back to Sydney and did a stop at honey haven. The store is beautifully presented and the lady was very friendly giving us a taste of all the honey. We got the banana flavored honey which we thought would go well with pancakes. The shoo also sells honey ice cream $5, has putt putt golf for the kids, coffee cakes and even honey wines. Heaps of chutney, sauces, oils, honey gifts,

Just 4-5 minutes out of town. Amazing array of honey products, not just for eating. Skin care exfoliator and moisturiser makes my skin softer than a baby's. Honey mead is not my cup of tea but must be good, the old boy bought 3 bottles of it. Small cafe for lunch or morning tea. Worth a look
Mary Wagner — Google review
Gorgeous selection of honeys and honey-related products: candles, mead, cosmetics; bee-themed tea towels, aprons and canvas bags and so on. Also a coffee shop offering good, sturdy coffee and various baked goods.
Katy vdB — Google review
Absolutely lovely honey producer! This is a Must visit when you are in town!
Their meads are also great tasting too!
So glad we've bought a big box of honey filled with different selections.

What a hidden gem!
Well worth pulling in and sampling the huge range on offer, not just honey.
Left happy with a box full of items.

Great shop with so many products related to honey and bees wax. There’s a central honey tasting area, a sample of lotions and scrubs, and a cafe that sells honey flavoured ice creams which were delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful, always asking if you need any help. They’re quite funny too even when having problems with the credit card machines. Made for a nice little shopping trip.

Very friendly staff to serve the honey mead tasting and the products. An unique honey ice cream made by chef is selling here! Love it very much.
Sandy Y — Google review
I really like this place, you can taste different types of honey in here. They also offer wines and non-alcoholic drinks made from honey which are awesome! They sell souvenirs, skin cares from honey. One thing you must try is their honey ice cream! But the ice cream has egg ingredients so be careful if you are allergic to eggs.
Hermione Le — Google review
A lovely place with super friendly and knowledgeable staff… you will find alcohols and spirits produced with honey… so unique and memorable experience… you can taste different varieties of honey and test different skin care products made with honey too along with honey mead tastings. we loved the spiced honey mead and bee care exfoliator… you will also get non- alcoholic honey based sparkling drinks… kids loved it… and something different to regular wine tasting experience…

Great shop, awesome tastings and lots of great products. Worth a visit.
Love this winery. Absolutely top of the list, and we went to a heap of f wineries in Mudgee! Loved the wine, definitely will find something you'd like here and well worth the visit. Staff were really lovely and made you feel valued and had a proper conversation with you. 5 stars from me!

Beautifully rustic with a vine draped balcony area, clustered outdoor garden seating on lush grass and a relaxed atmosphere. Platter board or easy to eat pizzas. The Rose was delicious. Perfect for a slow afternoon with your partner or a group of friends. Ample car parking on site.
Amanda Beale — Google review
Great wine and great food. We shared an antipasto platter that was made up from local produce. The 2 best wines for us were the Moscato and the Merlot. The wine tasting is a must and leads you through the history of the vineyard and what was behind the names of the wines. Great afternoon in the sun and thoroughly recommend.

Wasn’t the most personable experience unfortunately. Busy Easter weekend so I understood staff were stretched but the person servicing us was a bit short and forgot one of our tastings so we left without it. Beautiful setting however and we enjoyed the tasting platter

Being a wedding photographer and working at Burnbrae often, I knew I needed to get married here!
We chose Burnbrae, Not just because of their incredible wine and beer but because of the versatility. We really envisioned a wedding that was fully outside under the fairy lights and they didn’t disappoint! The fact that it also has an amazing wet weather option really made our decision final.
Dotty and the Burnbrae team were amazing to work with and made our wedding so much fun.
Nothing was ever an issue for Dotty and she was so helpful in every aspect of our day.
She literally made our wedding dreams come to life. All of our guests are still talking about how good the day was. We are so glad to have booked Burnbrae and it will always have a special place in our hearts.
Thank you so much to Dotty and the Burnbrae team. – Steph & Tom

Heard good words. Got in and unfortunately after 20min wait, they forgot about us. I felt like we didn't welcome their. Just to pay my respects got a pack of beer. Maybe it's better to book prior, maybe you get a better service

We stopped in today for a visit and were extremely well looked after by Katrina who took us through the Burnbrae selection. Our daughter enjoyed a gelato (Eva says hi Katrina!) and playing with Coco the dog. Now travelling back to Qld with a selection of Burnbrae wines to enjoy. Thanks so much for a really enjoyable morning!

My husband and I just had our wedding reception at Burnbrae and it was simply amazing. The venue, the staff, the finishing touches on everything - it was everything we could have dreamed up, and so much more. We also have had many of our guests sending us messages raving about the space and the wine. Thank you Dotty!!! You are the best event manager in the world!

We had a very nice visit, the staff were great to chat with, they explained everything and answered all our questions. We made a decent purchase of wine and they looked after us on price which was nice to see in these tough financial times post Covid. We have had many previous visits there to purchase the wines and our experience is always excellent. We can recommend this place, the staff support and their beautiful selection of excellent wines.

Had a fabulous platter filled with local delights to accompany a lunch-time wine tasting. The young female manageress was extremely attentive, friendly and informative! Excellent service! And the wines were great too! A must visit when in Mudgee.

First time to Burnbrae yesterday.
We met with Loz who poured and put up with our jokes and Andy who was a wealth of information and good humour , both of which were super friendly and knowledgeable .
We were offered a really lovely selection to sample of both wine and beer and had few good laughs as well . We ended up walking away with a few bottles not even on the tasting menu yet which we will enjoy when we get back to Sydney.
Thanks guys !!

Went to Bunbrae Estate over the Easter weekend and they were just over booked. They ran out of the ingredients for the food, were handing out Greek yogurt buckets as ice buckets as they hand run out and had very long queues to the single male and female toilets. Nice winery but they need to reinvest in their facilities if they really want to service customers.

Wedding of our dreams!!
We can't recommend highly enough having your wedding at Burnbrae.
We knew from the moment we got engaged that we wanted to book a venue in Mudgee that "felt like home", as though we were hosting everyone in the comfort and welcome of our own backyard and that is exactly the atmosphere that Dottie, Trine and everyone at Burnbrae gave us from the start.
Our guests haven't stopped raving about how happy the day was, and that is was "so us", which was executed due to the kindness and effort Burnbrae puts into executing the day how you envision it, with the utmost authenticity.
Thank you all, we look forward to popping in many more times to come to keep enjoying the delicious wines and good atmosphere!

One of Mudgee’s finest and coziest wineries. Dotty is the perfect host and makes for such a welcoming experience. Not to mention great tasting platters and wines.
Picturesque, free-admission garden with 4 areas, including a traditional Japanese landscape garden.
We visited the Shoyoen Japanese Garden, which forms part of the Botanical gardens. It was beautiful. The gardens are well maintained, and there are some interesting trees and plants. The small lake is idyllic with its little waterfall, birdlife and Koi fish. There is a replica Japanese house which can be viewed from the outside. There is no charge to explore the garden which provides a restful retreat, particularly for tourists such as my wife and I. I recommend finding the time to spend an hour at these beautiful gardens.

Beautiful gardens to wander through. Japanese gardens include ducks, carp, Lilly pads and waterfall. Sensory garden includes vertical growing walls with strawberries, lemon trees, and a vegetable patch, lavender, stepping stones across a pond and more.

A step away from the everyday, yet right on Dubbo’s doorstep. I instantly felt like I was transported to Japan, and I loved it! A great place to come and get in touch with nature and to clear out your head!
Adrian Pich — Google review
Very nice gardens, the Japanese and Sensory gardens are very well manicured and look amazing. There are huge Koi fish in the ponds of the Japanese garden. Not a big garden but very beautiful nonetheless. Well worth a visit while in Dubbo.

Beautiful gardens. Absolutely loved exploring them. The playground right next to them is EXCELLENT! One of the best I've ever seen. Kids loved it.

It is a lovely serene place. I dashed around with an umbrella, leaping over puddles while admiring the Japanese section.
One day I hope to go back when the sun is shining. The plants were happy in the rain !

Such a tranquil garden setting as soon as you enter the gates. Smell the sweet perfume of the beautiful wisteria, listen to the sound of running water, and enjoy the sheer beauty of this hidden oasis.

Beautiful free attraction. Really well looked after with so many aspects of the gardens to look at. Very easy to walk around even with someone elderly with a walker. We visited in April but could easily see the hard work getting ready for spring. A wide range of bird life and a huge parking area. There are public bathrooms in the wonderful park located right next to the gardens.
MsKoshe — Google review
Delightful little gardens, including a Japanese garden, and a biodiverse section which is pretty interesting. It is very relaxing wandering about and there are some benches to sit and reflect. Good fish in the ponds too. Well worth a visit. Also the adventure playground is next door for the kids to cut loose.

We spent the morning here on the way out of Dubbo and enjoyed the peace and beauty of the Gardens especially the Japanese Shoyoen Garden. A lovely space to stroll or relax. Some nice areas to sit and enjoy. Definitely worth a look.
Guided tours, interactive exhibits & re-enactments offered in a penitentiary used from 1847–1966.
We enjoyed our visit here, really interesting to learn about the history of this jail. The shows at 10am and 11am were entertaining and informative, went for about 30min each which maybe was a little too long. We ended up being here for around 1.5 hours but would have been less if shows were not on as took us around 45min or so to wander through the buildings. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Dubbo for a couple of days or more.
Paolo B — Google review
a small gaol with some different buildings. It was quite interesting to visit, but we found it is too touristy (got a bit crowded at few areas). It is good to check during a visit at Dubbo. We did not visit it last time we went there so we decided to check it this time as we purchased Dubbo Experiences (discounted tickets bundled with Zoo and Royal Flying Doctor). The street parking is only 1 hour so we did not spend too much time there.

An absolutely amazing compound with some awesome history, well worth stopping in and having a look, would highly recommend spending some time reading the information as you walk around, some of the info blew my mind. Also super convenient that it is dog friendly.

Absolutely 5 out of 5. The Old Dubbo Gaol was so much fun. The kids absolutely loved
the two very informative performances, the staff were wonderful, had great knowledge of the history of the gaol and were very funny and engaging. You can walkthrough and explore all parts of the gaol at your own pace. Staff were always available to answer any questions. The ticket multiple entry and exits within the same day. Parking was 1 hr street parking.
Bakso Suka — Google review
Blew my mind. If you are Into architecture or Australian history this is a must visit.
Created with a friendly smile and great customer service interaction from Jordan? (well, the cash register said it was Jordan serving us).
Children are given a workbook and must think of clues and information within the kail and fill it out as they go. It's got some easy questions and some you need to think about. All the clues are within the facility tho.
Having served as a real Goal in its life it's rather moving and haunting to step into some of the cells. Be warned tho, though you don't know who you might run into.
Just when you are on your self-guided journey something interesting happens. I don't want to give away all the details but make sure you participate and watch what occurs. You might be lucky enough to be picked on by the Goal's very own prison officer, enough about that tho.
The Goal also has a very small gift shop filled with some great gifts so you can take home a memory from this amazing visit you will have.
Prices are affordable and reasonable. I would recommend you make this an attraction you don't miss out on. It's a true part of Australian history and the workers do take pride and this facility and their work.

Had a great visit to Old Dubbo Goal today. Attended the 3pm escapees talk with my hubby and two kids (10 & 7). The historian who presented was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and charismatic, he kept all the children and adults entertained for the best part of an hour. Highly recommended.
Sonia Roberts — Google review
We loved Dubbo Gaol. The history is so interesting, We especially liked the displays, the structures and the buildings that have been preserved. Unfortunately, there was some sort of school excursion on the day. The noise totally spoilt the presentation and the atmosphere. Fortunately, we had visited the Gaol previously, so we knew what to expect. We suggest that you check with the Gaol before you plan your visit. It is well worth a visit.
John Gadsdon — Google review
A very interesting introspective into the dark side of Australian history. Very confronting at times. You’d be surprised what would have constituted a crime that would put you in the gaol back then. Some heartbreaking stories, as well as some ‘amusing’ facts, quotes and anecdotes. Obviously well maintained. A reverent place that I personally wouldn’t take children under the age of 12/13 to, as some of the younger children that were there (I thought) weren’t respectful of the history of the grounds.
Overall a great experience and one I think everyone should be made aware of. History that should be respected and learned from.

One of the beautiful place to visit in Dubbo. We had great time with family. Explaining about jail escape was much informative session and the lady explained it in much interesting way

Fun and interesting visit in Dubbo. The shows were good and fun and the staff was friendly. Entrance fee is a little pricey and probably not worth it if you don't watch the show. Toilets were well maintained and the gift shop had some pretty fun stuff.

Had a great time exploring the gaol. The two talks they gave were wonderful, informative and very interactive, the employees doing these were absolutely amazing. Definitely a must see when going to Dubbo.

An entertaining tour (our tour guide was knowledgeable, funny and kept the big crowd entertained)
I almost felt guilty for having so much fun.
Well worth the visit when people come to Dubbo.
Our 6 year olds loved it too.

Tells the story of lives and living conditions of prisoners held in different jails across NSW. Prison is restored as a museum.
Tickets costs a 22.5$ per person and in my opinion it’s bit expensive.
Place is carefully managed and pretty clean.

We took our Granddaughter to Dubbo Gaol and she loved it as did we.
Tilly was amazing really plays her part well, we couldn't stop talking about her.
She always involved the crowd and everyone was happy to participate.
Alot of History at the Gaol and it was good for our Granddaughter to learn about our Histroy.

Excellent location. Great restoration & fantastic interpretation resources on site. Takes about an hour and a half to explore and soak in the atmosphere and study the signage.
Geoff Mason — Google review
Right in the middle of town so easy to find.
Easy to get tickets and pay.
Friendly and helpful staff.
The gaol has been restored to a point where it is easy to understand the history and hardship of the inmates and prison officers.
There is an mobile online walk through of the exhibits along with a printed copy. Each physical area of interest has a summary near its entrance. It helps you get a feeling of life as an inmate and officer only worse.
There is an air conditioned area for smaller exhibits, e.g., batons, hanging ropes, and lots more. Plus it has movies / slides to help you visualise the experiences and how the items were used.
The buildings are real and displayed with the real inmates and wardens identities and stories.

Was fascinating. Very informative, great staff very friendly, helpful and make you feel welcome.
Great show they put on. We went during the school holidays. My boys are still talking about it and bragging about being chosen as a volunteer in the show. Great actors, too, wonderful work, ladies.
Wonderful place, highly recommend a visit. The history is a little dark and sad, but it's great to know how far jails have come since then.
Definitely put this as a stop on your itinerary, allow an hour or 2, and definitely bring a camera. You won't be disappointed. Make sure you get there as it opens, and there should be a short wait time.

A must do --- Allow min 1hr. Costume show is not to be missed (they lock the front gates though you can still get out). A very passionate team and very interesting walk back in history. Highly recommend.
Allan Jones — Google review
Nice but could be more interactive. Takes 30-40 min to see everything. A lot of pictures with text that you have to read about each prisoner and their stories, we got bored of reading.
Santa St — Google review
Entering the Dubbo Gaol to the very theatrical performance by Billy is a very neccesary and light hearted way to take the edge off what you are about to see. To say the Gaol captures a dark side of Australian History is an understatement. You feel it in the walls of the cells, in the photos and stories of the former prisoners, the eyes of the executed and certainly from the artifacts used in daily life there including for the executions. A sombre and at times frightful journey. But a fact of life.
Make sure to watch the interactive performance by the actors beforehand as it really does balance the whole experience.
Well done to all staff. Highly recommended.
Established in 1977, this 300-hectare open-range zoo features animals from around the world.
We had an amazing experience at the zoo! The fallow deer was a standout as we happened to be there at feeding time.
The zoo was busy in the morning but from about 2:30 onwards a calm descended over the zoo and it was wonderful.
We went back a second day because we loved it so much.
Kylie Archer — Google review
We had a great time at the Zoo. Driving around takes about 3hrs to see most of the exhibits but not rushing. Next time we will be going using the electric buggies and would recommend going this way if you have a family or small group.
The animals appear to have great enclosures with lots of space to roam, not feeling trapped. They all look well taken care of.
There’s plenty to look at and the information on available to learn digitally about the exhibits is handy. More QR codes with text sites or videos would be appreciated.
Take the day and explore this awesome zoo.
Daniel B — Google review
Great zoo experience. We booked tickets online and a golf cart to drive around the zoo. Booking online enables you to largely skip the ticket queues. Hire times are from 9am - noon and 1pm -4pm. Whilst the carts are fun, you are competing for parking around the exhibits with other carts and cars. If it's not a rainy day it's better to hire one of their bikes or ride your own. That way you can ride right up to the exhibits. The Cafe serves delicious food and the gift shop has items for all budgets.
Jennie McKern — Google review
This is one of the nicest, prettiest, well laid out and presented zoos that we have ever been to. We decided to walk around the zoo, rather than drive a car, hire a buggy or a push bike. We loved the way that the open enclosures were set out, giving you the feeling that you were seeing the animals in the wild. The highlight of our visit? Going into the lion enclosure. What a fabulous experience seeing these magnificent animals up so close. Thank you so much for a fabulous experience.
John Gadsdon — Google review
Great zoo, friendly staff, and way to see all the exhibits. Recommend the bike hire. The bikes are well maintained, have disc breaks, and no need for gears as the paths and roads are flat. Only criticism is the signage can send you round in circles and or back to the start.
Lucy Robson — Google review
What a wonderful experience we had at the Toronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo.
We hired a golf cart to get around which was great. Unfortunately I booked the AM session twice by accident and the incorrect booking was not refundable. Next time we would use our own vehicle to travel around the park (which you can do) but at least we had fun in the cart and can tick it off our bucket list. Along with feeding the giraffes 🦒. This experience is definitely worth the extra fee.
Keeper talks are informative and you can tell from the enthusiasm in their voice that they love their job and the animals they care for.
Whilst there are 2 places to eat and vending machines at picnic spot, I definitely recommend bringing your own food, snacks and cold drinks.
Our teenage children loved the experience and close they could get to most of the animals.
We will be talking about the memories we made today for a long time to come.
Vanessa James-McPhee — Google review
A significant place for families to have fun there. Animals all have prominent places to play and live, that's important for them. There are many kinds of animals, from giraffes, hippos, and rhinos to sea otters, tigers, and lions……
It would help if you wear comfortable shoes, because there is a long way to walk. But you can hire/take a bike if you can ride; it will be a brilliant idea.
Just remember to bring enough water on a hot day. It's hard to find a water fountain, or maybe they don't have one. Purchasing a bottle of water from the machine costs $7.70.
Zhuping Zheng — Google review
Had an absolute awesome time, would definitely recommend to anyone of any age. We had our two kids both under 3 and the grandparents and everybody had a ball. It works out cheaper of you get tickets online, there is concession prices available and kids under 3 are free. You can hire a 6 seater cart to drive around the zoo with the option of putting your kids car seats in the cart. There was also bikes available for hire if you wanted to have a ride around the zoo. Your able to drive your own vehicle or walk as well. I really loved how natural it was, there wasn't really cages rather open areas with appropriate fencing suited to that animal, with quite a few having motes around them. We had the cart for the day which I found was a good amount of time with kids to see all the animals, as you have to walk to a lot of them from the parking bays they have.
Skyandra Trinder — Google review
Great zoo with plenty of things to see.
Carts were good with room for only one car seat though and only 3 hours seems a bit short for the amount of attractions.
Bikes with kid seats and trailers seem like the better option for families to have the full day.
Decent food available and good gift shop.

The African zoo to see in Australia. Drive, bike or walk to the many different animal exhibits on offer. All tickets purchased give two days of access to the zoo and you'll need it. Walking shoes are a must. We loved every minute. Definitely will come again in the future.

You can bike, walk and drive it. You can also hire a buggy. The zoo is fabulous, they have feeding and talking times about all the animals. Plenty of cafes around the park and amenities. The keepers do a fabulous job with there info on their animals that they take care of. You can experience this on your 2 day pass. They also have accommodation.

We had the most amazing time at Dubbo zoo today. There are many different ways of getting around the zoo you can drive your car, hire a cart or bike but we chose to walk around. The enclosures were spaced apart well and noticed the animals were well looked after. The animals were all amazing and I cant wait to come back again sometime soon!
Mitchell Sleeman — Google review
We really enjoyed our day at the Zoo! Animals clearly looked after very well, loved the layout, and the carts and bikes made it much easier to get around. One of our family did the hippo encounter which was amazing. We also did the safari which we all enjoyed.
A few bits of feedback though:
Even with the cart there was a lot of walking required to see things (which having an ankle injury I struggled quite a bit more than I expected to with a cart). Not being able to go backwards in the cart meant we had to park and walk back to some exhibits as the talks didn’t align with the animal encounters we booked.
There is not enough water refill stations and we ran out of water (it was hot and we packed 3 large bottles which wasn’t enough to get between taps to refill).
The map on the app isn’t great - the paper one is much easier to use.
Take hats and plenty of sunscreen/long sleeved shirt as there’s not a lot of shade to take refuge under.
The hire bikes are great, but there are none with training wheels and our daughter was too big for the bike trailer. We ended up having to get a cart instead which was fine but a lot more expensive.
Kerri Favarato — Google review
We absolutely loved a day at the Open-Plan Safari Zoo. The freedom to drive through the zoo in your own vehicle adds an adventurous twist to the traditional zoo visit.
Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by the option to hire golf carts or bicycles, providing convenient and eco-friendly ways to explore the expansive grounds. For those who prefer a leisurely stroll, walking paths wind through the zoo.
The zoo’s regular animal shows provide captivating entertainment for visitors of all ages. There are many picnic facilities and a food shop on the premises. A visit to this zoo was surely a memorable experience for us all.
Mandy Kaur — Google review
Such a cool zoo with environmental and conservation measure and efforts in place. The best way to enjoy the zoo (especially in the heat of summer) is to drive your car through. They also have buggy’s for rent as well as bikes if you are feeling up for it. My favourites were the rhinos and the tortoises. Must say that the australia exhibits were really lacking compared to the rest of the park

Amazing zoo, lots of animals, can get pretty hot in the summer but easy to navigate around. They also offer bike option and golf cart. The staff were super friendly, knowledgeable and love to answer questions. There are a lot of talks and shows available so get a timetable before you start. Highly recommend to visit!

A beautiful place to visit with your family! Having a Zoo Friends family pass allowed us unlimited entry into the park so we could take our time to go around with the little ones.
If you can, I’d recommend visiting from age 1 up as the little one can ride with n adult on the bike or cart. It makes getting on and off a breeze without the hassle of buckling and unbuckling them from a car seat.
Also I 100% recommend staying onsite for at least a night, again with kids it allows you to take the time to explore without the rush. We stayed at the Zoofari Lodge which was pricy but absolutely worth it at least once, especially in the animal view room where you can sit back and watch the rhinos sleeping, giraffes eating. It includes a behind the scenes tour in the afternoon where you can feed giraffes, a morning tour seeing elephants bathe and a drive inside the safari to see the animals up close. My little one loved it! Also recommended for at least 2.5 years up so the little ones can understand and appreciate it better.
Dinner was a mini banquet style dinner, for us being big eaters with was on the lighter side and a tad sweet for our preference but still enjoyed it. They were also able to accommodate dietaries the best they can. Breakfast was more filling as we could add on items, they had a option for pancake & full English breakfast, I had both 🙈
I only wish the check out was later so we could enjoy the view for longer, so I do suggest if you can skip one of the tours just so you can take time to enjoy the views especially if it’s winter where the sun goes down earlier.
Staff were all wonderful and hard workers! Doing the tours and serving us at dinner/breakfast.
Would go again!

Sensational zoo! We had THE best day. Super happy healthy animals with lovely roomy habitats - such a joy to see. The zoo keepers talks were so informative and interesting as well. Coffee was great too!

Amazing wildlife experience, you can walk, ride a bike, hire an electric buggy or drive your vehicle around the 5km of roads and tracks. The ticket is valid for two days. Well worth it when in Dubbo. Excellent facilities all around the zoo, with two large cafes and a kids waterpark. Allow plenty of time to attend the feedings and guide talks throughout the day.

It's such an amazing zoo.
We spent the day driving around the zoo with our own car. The animals have so much room that you can see how happy and healthy they are. We did the hippo experience with zoo keeper Glyn he was amazing it was one of the best animal experiences ever learned so much about these beautiful animals and got to feed them up close, we also did the safari tour with Kate she was amazing. The whole day here, and it was filled with unforgettable memories. We highly recommend this zoo.

Such a lovely zoo, you can hire bikes, safari cart (seats 6) or drive round the zoo. We hired the bikes, with a baby seat. It's a work out but worth it. You don't have to park and keep hoping out and in.
Only downside was that we needed to get back by half 3 to get the bikes back but the park doesn't close until 4, we found that we had to rush round the end of the park.
What was really cool at the time was the hospital was showing a lion on the table that was getting a check over. Super awesome.
This Is a must see if you are in the area

Loved this zoo & the fact you could drive around like we did or hire bikes or carts. Whole day experience, my son loved the water park. Perfect having the cafe half way through. Enjoyed the enclosures where you could walk in with the animals! Was a wonderful family day out!

Highly recommend doing the early walk pre-opening as a great way to see much of the zoo and get a nice insiders perspective before all the crowds. The volunteers are very friendly and insightful and do a great job of guiding the group around with the commentary.
If you come during Easter, get in early! Unsurprisingly very very popular but worth visiting if you’re in the area.
Buy tickets online to save time and get a bit of a discount.

Just do this and enjoy the moments.
You need more than a few hours. It’s around 5kms long but you need to stop often and read the QR code information about each amazing animal.
You’ll be amazed at the array of animal the park has and seeing them in a relaxed natural environment.
Staff are fun and informative.
You can bike, cart, tour and self-drive yourself around each point.
A few toilet spots throughout and a cafe also.
Absolutely worth visiting the whole day!

Really enjoyed it. Went Easter Saturday. Was very, very busy. The zoo layout handled it, though. We drove our car, got out at each area, and had a look. Was a warm day, and some animals had retreated to the shade. But hey, you can't control these things.Canteen struggled with the high volume of people, especially as a lot of people waited till they got to the cashier before deciding what they wanted. It was very frustrating, especially for the staff. I was in awe of their patience 👏👏👏
A great place for child and adult alike.

Fantastic for the family. Stayed in the savannah cabins for a few nights and is so worth the money for the serenity. Was a very immersive experience and being so up close to all the wildlife is phenomenal. Best zoo I have been to so far. All my kids loved the experience! Will be back again absolutely!

It was an amazing experience driving our own car inside the zoo! The animals living there have plenty of room to roam around and they seem to be quite happy :) There was a long queue at the entrance though (better to purchase tickets online before arrival).
Very interesting tour for all ages. Our tour guide Bec was lovely and catered the tour for old and young adventurers alike. There are also other activities besides the tours that are accessible for free including a bush walk with marked fossil sites and an information centre. An excellent day trip

Unable to prebook tickets. I arrived just before it opened and somehow it was booked out until 10:30am. We decided to wait around but unfortunately it wasn't worth the wait. The tour guide was amazing though. He was genuinely passionate about his job, loved sharing all his knowledge of the caves and was great with all the kids on the tour (even the bratty ones).

I didn't stay here, I was on a day visit to the Caves.
A well set visitor centre. The fossil walk could be improved.
The cave tours are excellent. The visitors centre is great, food and souvenirs as well as plenty of local info.

Good beginner caves for kids. Not super impressive if you’ve been to many caves before, but staff is really well trained to entertain and engage with the public and it made the experience really memorable. For only 1 cave, I thought the price was a bit high, though.

Fantastic experience. Unfortunately only the Gaden cave was open when we went (we would love to have seen these other caves), but the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Thanks to our guide Paul who was very knowledgeable and friendly.
We will definitely be back to see the other caves once they open.

Cathedral Cave was a great first time cave experience for our children (11 and 13). The cave goes down quite deep with the grand finale being a small well filled with beautiful blue water.

Our family joined the Cathedral Tour and it was perfect. From the moment we were arrived, we were greeted with friendly staff at the counter. Try to arrive earlier to check out the free exhibition in the centre.
We joined the last tour at 3.30pm on 28/12 and the guide, Bec (I think that's her name) was brilliant!! She shared so much information and plenty of Q&A.
Plenty of stairs to climb but it was broken down in sections so you won't feel too tired. So many fascinating sights and facts. Again, credit to the tour guide for her excellent story telling.
Definitely a must do attraction in this area.

Missed this. Such history for the area… with a fabulous guide that as very interesting and engaging. The caves a beautiful. Make sure you have covered in shoes, but the walk is not to challenging… it does have a few steps, which is to be expected.

Not great access for disabled. Over 100 steps after walking up a steep incline before being able to go to caves. I understand that they are caves and it is understandable that people with walking difficulty should forget it. There is a nice Japanese walk next to the centre and we enjoyed that. The staff in the centre were very friendly and we had coffees and 1 blueberry muffin between us! My sister in law’s idea as we don’t need the calories but the bit I had was delicious.

You need to book during school holidays. I only rated this 1 ⭐️ so this I for would come up.
The museum is small but has a great interactive video work and a great megafauna skeleton.
They also have a great free self guided fossil walk which is flat about 800m loop. 20 to 40 mins
Thirdly they have a Japanese garden which is free and good for 20min look around or a picnic (no picnic tables)
Kids play ground next visitor Center too

Great caving experience, with 2 caves to choose from, tours leave at different times and are limited to certain numbers of people, so best to check online for tour times before attending. Our tour guide Emma was fabulous, she is very knowledgeable and made the whole experience great, she particularly engaged the little kids and kept their interest throughout the hour long tour. Nice facilities onsite with a cafe and information centre.

We stayed here in our Caravan. It was a lovely caravan park. The amenities were lovely and clean and the showers were great with plenty of water pressure. We didn’t go through the caves this time as we had our little fur baby with us but we have been through them last time we were here and really enjoyed them. The Japanese Gardens are across the road. These are just beautiful and peaceful.
Cook Park is a Victorian-era city park that offers a variety of attractions including an aviary, Begonia glass house, and fernery. The park is well-maintained and offers free entry with plenty of parking available around its perimeter. It's a great place to spend time with family and friends, especially for children who will enjoy the fountain, pond, swing and birds. Regular events are held throughout the year in addition to the seasonal Begonia display.
Loved this garden. It has many attractions such as an aviary, Begonia glass house and a fernery. Everything was well looked after and can easily spend at least an hour strolling across the gardens. Free entry and plenty of parking around the perimeter of the garden.

I used Cook Park as the background for a cake smash and it went fantastic. The grounds are beautiful - even in winter. The grass is green, the flowers are bright. There is a playground for the older child to play on while the baby had his photos taken, and the birds in the aviary were fantastic, both kids were obsessed.
There are an abundance of picnic tables, so there's never a shortage of places to sit and enjoy the scenery, and there is parking along all sides of the block so parking is a breeze.

first time I found this park when I'm driving around Orange. it's quite a big for a park with a lot of huge trees. when you have a closer look to the tree, it has a box of description about the tree. apparently some of them is USA origin.
It has aviary park, contain sleepy cockatoos (I really hope they can sleep well 🥺), and some other small colourful birds.
It has female and male toilet. on the way there you can see a water fountain with statue in the middle, some boys pouring water. and there is drinkable water fountain next to it (just a friendly reminder, don't drink from the statue) 😇.

Cook Park truly is a gem in the heart of town. It's amazing how a space so tranquil and peaceful can exist in the midst of all the hustle and bustle.
I particularly enjoyed learning about the history of the park while exploring the different sections, such as the Bagonia greenhouses. It's always fascinating to discover the stories behind these types of public spaces and to see how they have evolved over time.
The park is flat and easy to navigate for people with limited mobility or disabilities.
The stunning old trees are a highlight of the park and add so much character to the space. It's amazing to think about how long they have been there and how much history they have witnessed.
Overall, I would definitely recommend a visit to Cook Park to anyone looking for a serene and informative outdoor experience. It's a great place to escape from the chaos of everyday life and connect with nature and history at the same time.

Very nice place to visit on a Sunday afternoon. I love the amount of trees and the shade they provide. Plenty of chairs and open space for play or to relax. A nice rose garden and a free bird enclosure there as well. Pkenty of duck ponds if you would like to feed the ducks and ducklings. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful medium sized park, with lots to see (much preferred than botanic gardens). Autumn colours drifting into winter browns.
Aviary (talking cockatoos, budgerigars, cockatiels, galahs) - seem happy enough for caged birds (cockatoo eager to hole punch a finger). Fernery and Conservatory (full of flowering Begonias) were shut, but could still look in the windows. Guild craft shop lovely to visit (especially if you like slices and jams / chutnies). Trees are magnificent. Roses wilting for winter.

**Summary: Orange Cook Park NSW**
Orange Cook Park in NSW is a hidden gem, providing a tranquil and well-maintained environment. The park's scenic beauty, diverse recreational facilities, and community atmosphere make it a delightful destination. Cleanliness and maintenance are commendable, creating a positive experience for visitors. While additional benches or shaded areas could enhance comfort, the park remains an excellent choice for families, friends, and individuals seeking a peaceful escape. Highly recommended for those looking to enjoy nature and recreational activities in a serene setting.
Nice main cellar door within a rustic looking shed with good heating.
Great outdoor areas with sand pit and farm animals for kids to entertain themselves.
Cheese plate was good, might have been elevated a notch further with some truffle honey 🍯 accompanying zucchini pickles and fresh tomato relish from Franklin Road Preserves were used - fantastic. 👍
Easy booking on their website. Allowed “purchase” of tickets for non-drinkers (eg pregnant or designated drivers).

Really warm and inviting cellar door experience. Was pleased that Zac accommodated us at short notice. Good amount of seating inside and out. We had a table outside so glad they had the open fire pits going to keep us warm. Tasting was $15 a head for 6 wines which is on the pricier end. Very good wines although not my preferred in the region. Kids had a great time in the petting zoo and sand pit. Happy with the complimentary Tesla charging stations too.

Absolutely loved the rustic farm vibe of this winery, and it was very welcoming to the kids. It's the perfect place to get out with the family, for a relaxing afternoon with delicious wine and cheese platters. All while sending the kids off to run around, play in the sandpit or pat the animals. Their range of preserved goods is also fantastic, I highly recommend buying a jar of their Zucchini Pickles.
Its also extremely picturesque, so make sure to take some snaps!

Fascinating place and quite intriguing walk back in time. Hard to believe that back then Australia played such an important and leader in worldwide communications. Coffee shop food is expensive, BUT remember where you are... In the middle of nowhere! Enjoy.

Great stop for either the casual tourist or space buff. Plenty of information with all of the exhibits, including the control panel that was recreated for the movie - a nice little "fact vs fiction" panel about the contents of movie too. Great to see that credit is given to Honeysuckle Creek and the roles the two stations played during Apollo 11.
A lot of the exhibits are about how the telescope is used today - Parkes isn't a communications telescope, it is a radio telescope. There's a lot to learn if you have ~45 minutes to read all of the information there.
I really enjoyed the exhibitions on how objects look in radio spectrums vs how they look in visual spectrum only. The large display that had the galaxy being surveyed as a small circle (visual) surrounded by an absolutely massive web of radio signals was both pretty/artistic and informative.
The gift shop is really well stocked with everything space related. I didn't get an opportunity to watch the 3D movie that was playing due to time constraints. The café service was very quick.

I am glad we stopped here and had a look at this magnificent facility.
Just outside if the main entrance are two dishes setup approx 10m apart through which you can communicate to each other. Fascinating.
We even arrived just in time for the 3D movies. They show three short movies which explain the purpose of the dish and the history of our universe in a child appropriate way.
The kids had a ball on the playground outside and the interactive displays inside. There are lots of little puzzles around the place that kids as well as aprrbt slikr to get their teeth stuck on.
Fantastic gift shop with great science games for kids and and interesting book selection. Of course, you have to get "The dish" stubby cooler while you're here.
The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The toilet block immaculately clean.

Been to the Parkes Observatory a few times and it's usually been a quick stop look at the shop, see the printed explanations around the shop, have a bite to eat, go to the toilets and leave. But, there is more to see. You must see the 3D movies, they make the visit worthwhile. They aren't just for kids, they are informative and give you the explanations you will miss if you don't see them. Sure they cost money and at the same time you get (borrow) some 3D glasses to see the movies. They are simple to understand and a worthy accompaniment to the displays. My wife and I drove up from Sydney just to see them. A visit is highly recommended.

If travelling through Parkes in New South Wales it is worth taking a detour to view the radio telescope near Parkes. It is located about 20km North of Parkes. It has been at this site for many years and has been involved in many important space activities such as the Apollo 11 moon landing and become well known through the movie The Dish. There is a visitor centre that contains exhibits and displays of equipment as well as a shop where you can buy souvenirs and space educational items.

We stopped here on our way back from Dubbo to Adelaide and were pleasantly surprised. Yes it caters to the kids but there is a whole lot for the adults to read and learn too. We did not see the movie but the free experience of watching the telescope was worth it. The gardens and toilets were under maintenance so be mindful of that. Definitely worth a visit.

I think this would be an excellent pit stop for children. The exhibits themselves are interesting for all. There are lots of different activities aimed towards primary school aged children. Great information for young and old, definitely worth the trip to Canowindra (pronounced Canowndra). Its story started when an excavator for a new road noticed some unusual markings on a slab of rock. A local bee keeper agreed and contacted the Australian Museum, who confirmed the find as a great set of fossils from the Devonian period - basically a range of now extinct fish from 400 million years ago, most likely trapped together in a lake or Billabong that dried up. The exhibits target the full range of children and adults. There are also picnic tables, toilets and a shop. Entrance is reasonable. And Canowindra is an attractive town.

Absolutely superb museum showing the Earth’s ages and the relevant fish for time periods. The fossils are amazing. So fascinating to see the reality of life over many millions of years.

Knocked this out very quickly. I am sure people fossil knowledgeable would read everything. I felt it all looked very similar to each other. Even my father who is into fossils wasn't overly interested in this venue.
Ladies there were lovely.

A brilliant museum dedicated to the devonian placoderms of Canowindra. The museum includes some of the best fish fossils in the world as well as fun activities to entertain your kids. Definitely recommend for young kids and adults alike.

We were just expecting to breeze through Conowindra on our way between Orange and Cootamundra. Lovers of rocks, fossils and the ancient past could easily spend a couple of hours here. Beautifully set up with displays, fossils, children’s play and exploration areas. Not to be missed.

A great display and welcoming staff. A must see museum for anyone interested in Natural history. The displays are informative and easy to understand.
Lush Japanese garden with streams & ponds, plus exhibits, annual events & a cafe with patio seating.
I wish I had visited the gardens a lot sooner instead of just driving through Cowra. It is a healthy walk around the grounds which are immaculate, and there are golf carts for hire for those who need them.
The staff are friendly, the walking paths don't have cracks or unevenness, the elevation change gives fantastic views, and the river, lake and waterfalls are tranquil. Take a picnic and relax on the ample grassed areas.
The grounds are quite open, so be careful on really hot days as you'll be in the sun a bit.

Absolutely beautiful! Even on winter, it was still colourful. Such well maintained grounds, and incredible plants. Love how there is a list of plants and numbers on the plants to tell you what they are. The view is incredible and the artefact exhibit is fantastic. Allow a couple of hours to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. Don't miss it if you are in Cowra!

I was amazed by the history of the garden, the garden was very beautiful and it was well taken care. My favourite was bonsai and those fishes Nd ducks, feeding them was satisfying. Upabove the garden, the environment and atmosphere was serene. The cultural heritage gallery was one way to know the history of the garden. Really beautiful and awesome.

There just aren't enough stars.
The gardens are exceptionally well kept and there are hidden vistas around most corners.
Wonderful exhibitions, gift shop and manicured lawns and shrubs.
The gardens are just beautiful.
Unfortunately we left the cafe until after we had seen the gardens. It was supposedly closed for a function but not all the inside tables, or any of the outside tables, were set up. Even so, no room for two people who just wanted a cuppa and a treat.
Maybe next time some signs telling other patrons that the cafe will be closed might be insightful.
The cafe non-experience didn't detract from the gardens.
One piece of advice. Two bags of duck/fish food won't be enough!

On arrival, the team member in reception was lovely. The gardens were fantastic on generally a gentle undulating hill. The stroll through them was relaxing and peaceful with many photo opportunities. Although this was purely a sightseeing visit, as a Marriage Celebrant, there are some beautiful places here a couple could choose for their wedding ceremony. Checking out the various Bonsai was interesting and the variety of wild Australian native birds were gorgeous.

Beautifully landscaped gardens and wonderful rich history at Cowra Japanese Gardens. Not overrun by visitors either even though we visited on a busy public holiday. Would recommend a detour to anyone considering a visit.

Truly unbelievable! We spent hours here walking around and taking in all of the intricate details. I think I could have spent several more and still not seen my fill. It was beautiful in Summer, I’d love to see it in Spring. It’s dog-friendly and has a reasonably priced admission fee. An absolute must visit.

We made the decision to detour via Cowra to specifically see this garden. We were not disappointed. This garden is stunning. It is set over quite a few acres and is beautifully set out and manicured. Very reasonable entry fee. It is also worthwhile to visit the site of the prison camp and the war cemetery to complete the story behind the garden.

Fascinating and beautiful not to mention pristine. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit although being in a wheelchair the undulating footpaths and bridges gave my carer quite the workout. Lol
However they did offer companion card access which was nice. Particularly educational museum, handy car park and convenient caffe.
Fully recommend! 👍☺️

A beautiful and peaceful place to visit. The gardens are astounding and well kept. And the story behind the gardens themselves is interesting as well. We had a Japanese POW camp here at Cowra, and there was a break out of the prisoners, during the escape and the search, 200ods Japanese and three Australians were killed.
Though they were enemy combatants the locals buried them with great respect and honor. After the war this became a Japanese war cemetery and made inroads to a fellowship with the Japanese people.in the seventies Ken Nakijima a landscape architect designed the gardens and with help build and planted the place. After his death, his ashes were even interred here.

If you like Japanese style gardens, you will love these. They rival some in Japan, I've been a lover of Japanese gardens since visiting Japan in 1975. These gardens are stunning and beautifully designed. We intend coming back this way on our way home to visit again. Can't recommend them more highly. We also had lunch at the gardens Cafe and it was pretty good too. The best chips we've had in ages and a delicious quiche, cab thoroughly recommend the Cafe as well. And by the way the meals are very, very generous, we shared the quiche dish and it was plenty for lunch. All up a fantastic place to visit. Just do it.

There is an entry fee here as well. See my YouTube The Travelling Social Worker in Thailand for my walk through these gardens

Beautiful and well maintained park. Feeding koi and ducks (and ducklings) are fun for kids and adults. Feeding food is at $2 per bag. Flowers and all plants are beautiful. The view from the lookout point is awesome. If the weather was better, I'm sure it'd be even more stunning view. We came when it's raining and they provided umbrellas for free to use for strolling in the park.
Walking path is easy for young adults and kids, perhaps some elderly who has trouble walking might find it a bit challenging to go up to the lookout point.

A beautiful and tranquil garden that is a must visit on a trip to Cowra. Lovely stream all the way through the gardens and lots of wildlife to see.
I was lucky enough to visit when there were ducklings and chicks around. It was great for wildlife and still life photography. I could have easily spent a while day wandering around these gardens.
There is also a bonsai house with lots of bonsai tress that are many years old. This was a peaceful area and lovely to see.
There's a cafe on site, quite expensive but lovely cake and tea. The gift shop offers some unique gifts as well that are from Japan.

Absolutely beautiful! We visited early on a day that was forecast to be 40 degrees yet the grounds felt lovely and cool. We ate at the cafe which was delicious and marveled at the waterfalls, the ducks and Koi, the architecture is so well designed. The bonsai were magnificient and it was nice to cool down inside afterwards touring the artworks and the zen garden. You can finish in the gift shop which has some unusual items for sale. This is definately worth a visit. Opposite the car park is a sculpture garden and place for the kids to run around before taking off on another driving adventure.

Well worth the visit. Beautiful, tranquil gardens. Kept in pristine condition. Smooth walking paths, with some managable hills and slopes for those a little walking challenged. The most beautiful parts are all accessible. Bench seating for little breaks or to take in the beautiful surrounds. We weren't there for the cherry blossom, but the Crepe Murtel was a picture.

A sensational step back in time walking through the hallways of Iandra Castle in Greenethorpe, NSW. Volunteers gave an overview of a past working farm with a share farming model in place and a large family living in Iandra castle. We strolled the gardens, stables and the castle. I didn’t want to leave. A big shout out to the volunteers that operate the running, restoration and showcasing of this large gem in the Hilltops region. Do yourself a favour and visit. TIP:- take a picnic lunch and relax and enjoy in the gardens.

We were blessed to visit the castle on a beautiful Autumn day. You can buy tickets online ($20 adults). Not as much a castle as a large manor house, this piece of Australian history is local legend. Well run, and supported by local groups such as the Lions Club who sold sausage sandwiches and drinks, local volunteers also gave interesting lectures about the history of Iandra Castle. You can tour the main house, stables and garden at your leisure. We brought a picnic lunch with us and enjoyed it on one of the ground level verandahs. On the day coffee was available from a van, and the Young Steam engine enthusiasts had their steam engines chugging away near the stables. A most interesting and enjoyable day soaking up the sunshine and Australian history.

Our lovely Chinese Gardens are a must see when you visit Young. A lovely area for family picnics and BBQ (provided by the Council). The gardens are Chinese inspired. The pagoda, which has a lovely view over the water, has recently been renovated, the perfect place for quiet contemplation. A path winds around the lake with viewing areas at different intervals. The pathway is lined by rocks and attractive plants. Autumn colours dominate at this time of year. The waterfall and water wheel provide relaxing water music. Ducks, wading birds and swans paddle on the lakes. Dogs are allowed on a leash. Beautiful any time of day.

While it was great to see all former captains of the Australian Men’s Cricket Teams, it was bitterly disappointed that not one female captain is yet to feature in the walk. Because this walk is NOT called Australian Men’s Captains Walk. There is in fact no mention of gender and yet only one gender is represented here.
We’ve had female test cricket captains for at least 90 years. Why are they not here too?

Depicting a famous 1850s bush ballad, this monument shows a dog guarding his owner's tuckerbox.

Such a lovely historical spot to visit. I noticed the old statue to the side, and the new monument has a water fountain around it. Wanted to recreate a photo I took there of a child but couldn't as the old monument no longer has the dog on it and it's been moved onto a larger monument and is surrounded by water.
Beautiful backdrop and location.

I saw The Dog on the Tuckerbox in the 1980's sometime when driving from Adelaide to Sydney. I think it was in a bit more of a bush setting then. However Australia has changed a lot since then and progress we have. I loved it then and I think it is what we need now, so l believe it has been done well . It is such an Australian icon, and a must see for visitors passing through.

It's an icon because of our Australian history. Some history is presented at the site. There's a dog on the Tucker box statue to take photos of and one for your own dog should you be so inclined. Nice between grass. Some toilets. A bit of dirt to park on which can be unpleasant if the wind gets up. A souvenir shop. Fork and did in in the area. If you've never been it's worth a stop but I would not go to too much trouble. Certainly better than it was 20 years ago.

The iconic Dog on the Tucker Box. My second visit, the first being 25 years ago. It's still the same. I love the merry history surrounding it and the numerous poems and songs it is included in. It sits at Five Mile Creek, 5 miles (north) from Gundagai.
There is a mock tuckerbox you can sit your dog on to take a photo.
Lots of parking and easy pull out back onto the highway. There is a turn zone in the middle of the highway, so pull in and out possible in either direction (we had caravan in tow :-)

Dog on a Tucker Box Gundagai area is an interesting place with a couple of historical Homestead ruins and a couple of old horse draw wagons also so here!
As you turn off the Hume highway near the petrol station, the small road heading to the Tuckerbox, there's road works being done at the moment being (February 2024)...
Unfortunately for us the souvenir / gift store was closed and also I will add there is some tables seating area if you need a rest from driving...
This part below is a copy from the sign in front of the dog statue of most part:
Dog on the Tuckerbox memorial is supposedly based on an
incident that occurred to a teamster named Bill the Bullock on the road to Gundagai in the 1850s. While leading his bullocks team and wagon across a creek five or nine miles from Gundagai,
Bill's wagon became hopelessly bogged in the creek, trying to drag the wagon out of the bog one of his bullocks and then broke the wagon's yoke.
Thereupon, Bill gave up the job and went to have his lunch...
But here, to top off his run of bad luck, he found his dog sitting - or worse - on his tuckerbox...The other bullockies thought the incident a great joke, and one of them supposeally wrote a poem
about it.

Stopped on way back from Albury NSW, a great stop to see and take a break. Brought back memories from when I was a kid, and our caravan trip, back in the late 50s early 60s with Mum, Dad and Sister. You can pull off and get back on highway with no trouble, and the area is big and plenty of room to unwind. There is food, and the little store has different nik naks to buy. Also an antique shop for a look around, not sure if connected to the store with the food. The second photo taken from ladies, so had to take photo, interesting info, gave me laugh. Iconic tourist attraction, worth the stop.

A worthwhile stop on the road. Take your time and inspect the old fashioned railway architecture. Even though the bridge was destroyed in a flood, it is still in marvelous shape and gives you an impression about what once was leading technology.
Unfortunately the walkway on the intact part of the bridge is currently closed due to damages in another storm (?)
The bridge can be seen in detail from a lower point of view which can be reached by a little pathway. Don’t forget to check that out.

Unfortunately the bridge was blocked off for restoration works at both ends. I still highly recommend driving up to it to view the bridge. You can also drive underneath the bridge which gives you a unique view.

A piece of treasure of Australian country history. Such a shame that it’s not being looked after.
An old flour mill that has renovated to a high standard and would be fantastic for engagement or wedding venue. Great watching how they make the yummy chocolate and licorice. Staff also very friendly and helpful. We didn't get to eat there but would really like to next time we visit there.

The grounds are beautiful to look at, and sit in. The staff very friendly. The food in the restaurant part was very disappointing, couldn't order from the menu, only could order pizzas today, and they weren't very nice, we couldn't eat them, we tried, but felt sick after.
The gift shop upstairs had a nice range of local and non local wares.
The chocolate factory, u could see them making it through the windows, and you could make yr own chocolate too for a price, then you could go to the chocolate and licorice shop and buy some goodies to take home.
Outside they had a big shed that was full of vintage automobiles, for a gold coin entrance.

Took the opportunity to have lunch here while in the area. Great to see they were dog friendly in the outdoor eating area.
The menu has changed since last here with some interesting new additions.
The staff are super friendly and accommodating to requests.
Lunch we tried the the Vegemite croquettes, an acquired taste I think, not for us.
Steak sandwich and the squid tacos were delicious.

If you are passing through Junee make sure you stop at the chocolate factory here for some delicious chocolates which will not disappoint you. I know I enjoyed the chocolate coated nuts 😁. But overall this place is great whether you want to just look how they make things, to stopping and enjoying their cafe to just buying chocolates. See my YouTube the Travelling social worker in Thailand for a walkthrough this place

Beautiful grounds full of old world charm. An interesting collection of Ford cars. Most excellent licorice and chocolate. A lovely venue for a coffee and cakes, or lunch. The gift shop has some very lovely things, though not cheap.

Visited over the Easter weekend and it was quite busy. We didn’t do the tour, or eat at the restaurant, but food looked and smelt great. Got a coffee and dessert from the cafe which were both fantastic. Also loved the liquorice store and wish I stocked up on the raspberry bullets! YUM!
Would love to come back and try the food. Very nice atmosphere. Be mindful of the vehicle you drive in, as it’s loose gravel. Also found this cute friendly dog wondering around outside 🥰

Absolutely love this place. We visited 2yrs ago and made it a, must stop this road trip past. kids enjoyed making their own feckle, beautiful old factory that also serves great coffee and the chocolates are amazing as well. Sadly their rocky road was Gluten free but they changed the recipe and now it's not, and it was the best rocky road I've ever tasted.

We went to have a look at the chocolate factory but I was very pleased to see the local car museum there as well. Being a car guy I spent more time there having a chat about the collection.
The chocolate factory is very good, well set-up and the chocolate is delicious.

I really loved this place. It was our destination for our weekend trip to Junee and I travelled with my wife, kids and parents-in-law. We visited Saturday and while there were no scheduled tours, we asked and the lovely staff organised on for us and a few other families. The lady giving the tour, Katrina, was excellent and taught us a lot about how the products were made. We had fun too with the vertical bowling too and my son was delighted to win a prize. Lovely gift shops and cafes very reasonably priced. The coffee and hot chocolates were the best we had in town, we were back Sunday morning for another round! Definitely worth a visit.

Tours are run daily at 10:30am and 1:30pm so unfortunately we missed the tour however we were able to walk around and have a look through the windows at some of the production. Upstairs is a gift shop with a range of different items not related to the licorice and chocolate factory. For $5 you can make your very own big chocolate freckle in the freckle hut. There are several places to sit and enjoy some food. The hot chocolate’s are delicious.
Jo Seaby — Google review
Unfortunately no chocolate was being made the day we visited but despite that the building was beautiful to look around. The gift shop was pretty but honestly had very little amount of items related to the chocolate shop, to me it seemed very sporadic. The licorice shop smelt amazing, and the staff were lovely. Beautiful gardens as well. There is very little storage and unfortunately the building seemed more like a storage place, than a building where chocolate is made, as well as a cafe etc. There were cardboard boxes everywhere, plastic crates and a random ratty old computer chair. All in all it was a beautiful building to visit & the licorice is delicious.

This place is amazing! The service and friendliness of the lovely lady in the licorace shop on Thursday 22/02/2024 in the afternoon was first class. Fabulous place to visit, see their working factory and taste their wares. Lovely cafe too.

The place is easy to find. Lots of shaded parking. The venue is goregous and recently renovated. The chocolate gift shop is also worth visiting.
The food was yummy and the chocolate was made infront of some massive glass walls. The other gift shop also has lots of trinkets in it

Lovely space to visit! Super different from when I was a kid and I must say, I’m a huge fan of the changes. I love that you can view how everything is made without paying. The cafe area and licorice shop were a beautiful layout and vibe as well as the upstairs homewares shop! Would definitely recommend the activities you can do within the factory!

Reportedly haunted Victorian-era house hosting supernatural tours & an offbeat doll museum.
What an awesome experience. If you haven't been here, you should. The presenters were awesome people and the house is amazing to explore. The stories told of its history are wonderful to listen to and I wish it could have been longer... We are planning another trip down that way again soon so we can spend some more time there.

Loved it. What a place and a story. We got to meet Olive and she signed the book my wife bought. We would love to do the full night time guided tours with over night stay that they offer but, unfortunately they are booked out until late May, so if you want to do this book now.
But the homestead and the ground are worth a walk around to take in the story.
Thanks Olive.

The house is beautiful in terms of its architecture and for the rooms (8 in total that were open for viewing) that were furnished and kept clean. However this is not a historic haunted house, they have rather made it a dirty old rundown place with weeds, termite infestation, spiders and wasps making nests wherever you see outside of these 8 rooms. Part of the house is closed due to being in tatters. The outhouses were some of the most crazily dirty rooms I have ever seen in Australia. The owners are lazy and do not believe in cleaning and mopping the place.
Laden with cobwebs and insects of all varieties it was a nightmare to see this place and felt really sad for how they are treating such a historic house. All it takes is a mop and bucket to clean and I can't believe they can't afford it!!!
Nothing haunting abt the house except the tacky mannequins unnecessarily added to the house making it haloweenish while it doesn't need it.
A sincere request :- CLEAN UP!!!

Amazing. Loved the vibe. Loved the energy. Loved chatting to the owners. What a memorable experience. While it may be Australia's most haunted homestead, I felt completely at home playing with the spirits. Saw things move. Saw orbs. Heard voices and my daughter felt her head being touched... maybe it was a spider web. Creepy but fun.

The owners of this Homestead have done an amazing job of curating quite a collection of antiques and objects. Whilst we didnt see or hear a ghost during our visit, the ambience is definately quite unusual. We went during the day, I can imagine it would be atmospheric at night! The owner gave a talk when we purchased our tickets and entered the grounds, he provided us with a map which detailed the main house and surrounding grounds. Very interesting!

Great experience at the Monte Cristo homestead after wanting to visit since I was ten years old. I would love to go back and stay overnight sometime too but for now it was just a stop over on our way home.
We explored the home and it was super cold in the servants quarters as well as the old cart stables. We got one live picture of a few orbs floating around which was weird and cool.
Besides those new things it was a really nice stop over in a very historical building that I had known of most of my life, and always wanted to visit. So it was nice to finally do that.

Reminding you that intergenerational transmission of knowledge doesn’t have to be traumatic, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery are running Miyagan: Relations. This exhibition celebrates artistic knowledge and skills bring passed down through generations with pieces from seven Aboriginal families.

Downstairs you can visit Hardenvale—our home in Absurdia by Catherine O’Donnell, Kellie O’Dempsey & Todd Fuller. It’s a homage to the 1960s Western Sydney fibro shack—just like the one I spent my own childhood in.

Wonderful public parklands with several separate children's playgrounds, zoo and avery, cafe, pump track, and miniature train. The train runs the first and third Sunday of the month and costs $4 per person. You must wear enclosed shoes. I've seen people take the dogs on the train too. The cafe has great gelato. The zoo has dingos and other Australian animals. The Avery has a free flight area with a fish pond. Lots of fun for the entire family.
Such a magical spot for photos. Every photographer should make the effort to check it out. The angles and light is perfection and late afternoon gives the best effects. I can't wait to go back in the snow. Wow! These photos are just from my phone. Was told about this place by a friendly lady at the Information Centre and almost didn't visit. Decided to stop off and found it well worth it. Not too far off the main road, and the size of these trees and their regular arrangement was quite the sight.
Wouldn't go out of your way to get here, but if you're already going past, this is a great place to stop for a quick wander (though keep in mind, it's a forest, so there are no facilities and you'll need to take all your rubbish out with you)

What a picturesque place to stop on your way to or from Sydney.
We stopped here for lunch at the Holbrook bakery. Fantastic baked goods and delicious coffee, a must-visit for a snack.
The Oberon class submarine is a fantastic place to learn about Australian and British naval history. Take a photo with the huge half-submerged submarine in the park.
After this, you must visit the museum/visitors centre to take a walk through time. Stick around and watch the holographic history lesson in the centre's theatre.
As of 08/03/22, the cost for an adult ticket to the museum is $7. Well worth it.

Interesting and educational on the history of submarines, inside the museum there is a section of a submarine where you step inside and feel what it is like to sleep and work in a confine area, there is also a working periscope you can operate, respectable price $5 concession, staff are helpful and courteous, highly recommend this museum

One of the must do stopover when driving between Melbourne and Sydney/Canberra.
I know its weired to imagine a submarine displayed inland but hey the name of this town was changed to honour decorated WW1 hero Lt Norman Douglas Holbrook who captained the unsinkable terror (submarine HMS B11).
The submarine displayed is the hull of real HMS B11 submarine and you can see the sheer size of it.
The museum is great as it offers a great insight into the life of the mariners in submarine. There are 6 displays to showcase various sections of the submarine.
They have a good 3d holographic story narration for the curious minds that takes you through the achivements of HMS B11.
