How long is the drive from Yazd to Shiraz?
The direct drive from Yazd to Shiraz is 273 mi (439 km), and should have a drive time of 5 hrs 17 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Yazd to Shiraz, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with top places to visit like Shah Abbasi Caravanserai and باغ صدری تفت, or the ever-popular Narin Castle.
The top stops along the way from Yazd to Shiraz (with short detours) are Pasargadae World Heritage Site, Naqsh-e Rostam, and Narin Castle. Other popular stops include Cypress of Abarkuh, باغ صدری تفت, and Shah Abbasi Caravanserai.
Narin Castle is a significant historical site located in Meybod, Yazd, with origins dating back over 1,000 years. This mud-brick castle offers breathtaking views of the city and is accompanied by informative interpretive signs for visitors. The castle's survival in extreme heat can be attributed to the use of watermelon. Its rich history spans back to 4000 BCE, making it an impressive feat of ancient architecture that should not be missed by anyone interested in stepping back into time.
A large and picturesque castle in Meybod
The mud-brick fortress is quite ancient and is crumbling in many places. You can explore the inner tunnels and it is quite a fascinating place. If passing through Meybod, or staying there, it is worth stopping to visit.

One of the oldest castles in Iran is Narin Castle. It is about 6,000 years old. It's got several floors. From the roof you'll have avast view of the city of Meybod. Meybod and its gardens, water reservoirs and ice reservoirs, located at the edge of the desert, shows how ancient Iranians could manage to save and use water for agriculture, daily use and drinking in all hot and cold seasons.
Niloo N — Google review
It is one of the most important historical monuments of Meybod.
You can imagine yourself in the stories of 1001 Nights by traveling to Meybod and Yazd.
Amir Paknejad Asl (Ramin Paknejad) — Google review
We had numerous castles in Iran called Narin & the one in Meybod is the most famous one . Meybod itself is a mysterious historical city and the Narin castle is a proof of it . it is highly recommended to visit this mesmerizing city if you are in Yazd area . do not be satisfied of just visiting Yazd & visit Meybod & Ardakan cities too . on above of Narin castle you will have a very good view of the whole city just like the rulers of Meybod during the times ! Estimations by the archaeologists suggest that the castle is constructed in Sassanian times ( almost 1800 years ago ) . Castle walls , foundation , roofs & interior walls are made by a kind of mortar which we call it Sarooj containing Egg to even more resistant .and after passing some severe earthquakes the castle still stand as a symbol .

Shah Abbasi Caravanserai, originally built in the 18th century and recently renovated, is a must-visit when in Yazd or Meybod. Located within walking distance of Narin Castle and Ab Anbar, it offers a glimpse into history and culture. The caravanserai houses a traditional restaurant where visitors can enjoy a meal while exploring Meybod's main sites such as the ice house, castle, and pigeon tower.
Just visited the Shab Abbas Caravanserai in Meybod - what a gem! The place is charming, and there's this lovely girl running a shop at the corner, she weaves fabric by hand. So many colorful options, it was hard to pick! Such a cool adventure. 🌟

During the Nowruz vacation, SadriGarden (NamirGarden) attracted a large number of visitors, resulting in overcrowding. Some slight mismanagement and chaos could be observed among the staff's behavior. However, these minor issues were overshadowed by the excellent food served at this traditional restaurant. The combination of its captivating traditional architecture, delectable cuisine, and serene atmosphere makes it an enticing destination worth trying.
This traditional restaurant is very eye-catching. Traditional architecture alongside delicious food and tranquil atmosphere. I'd strongly advise you to try this restaurant.

Thia place is a historical garden in Tatf, an small city close to Yazd. The garden and it's historical building including a big pool are quite nice. But, unfortunately we decided to eat in this place. We ordered an steak and a dish of shrimp. Both were awful! Both were really salty, and oily. The stake was not a real stake, it was just a piece of meat which they burned it to a charcoal! And the server didn’t even bring us a knife for the steak! I don’t recommend this restaurant at all, even though you can visit the garden for getting some interesting pictures!

The Aghazadeh Historical House is an historical house that has been turned into a hotel. It is probably one of the most beautiful hotels I stayed in during my trip in Iran. The hotel has very nice rooms with comfortable beds and a good bath room. The inner courts are lovely. When the evening falls and the artificial lighting is lit, you have the impression to be in a story of 1001 nights. It is also possible to have dinner in one of the big outside halls. The Aghazadeh Historical House has beautiful wind towers that are nicely illuminated during the night. From the roof you will have a splendid view on the wind towers during the evening or night.

This house was built in Qajar era about 200 years ago in Abarkooh city about 150 kilometers far from Yazd city. You can see the facade of this house which is portrayted on the 20,000 rial bills.
There is a very nice windcatcher and its better to say a two story windcatcher in this building with 18 meters hight.
I suggest you to visit the roof of the house and this windcatcher.

The house is a beauty.
The sight from the rooftop was great.
It was... It could be a nice place to be. It's reasonable clean in the room, but the Aircon wasn't working, as well as the TV. Internet was weak.
The restaurant is really not recommended, the dishes are small and did not taste well.
There's bread on the table, if ordered or not - it's been charged. At the end they put a 15% "service and tax fee" on top of the amount. The staff was not so friendly and well dressed and behaving.
It's been said breakfast is from 08:00 to 10:00, arrived at 09:00 they already started to clean away all things.
Recommended? No. Go in another place and just visit the house at sunset and pay the 5kIRR entrance for the rooftop.

Cypress is a sacred holy tree in Iranian culture and literature. It's symbolic for immortality and long life. This tree is considered as one of the oldest trees in the country and there are few myths and stories about it . Some people believe it was the holy tree mentioned in the Zoroastrian holy book or some believe it was planted by son of Noah.
Besides all this there is a great cafe next to it where you can enjoy a drink and relax with this old lovely creature

I'm giving it 3 stars cause there is noting special to visit inside but if you are a foreigner so you have to pay 20 times more than local people. It's not fare, even if it's 2 dollar but it's still not fare in camparision to locals. There is a tomb and all the other places are distroyed, you'll face distroyed places so If you think that there will be a full castle or anything you are mistaken.

Where the history of a great Empire begins.
Occupying a beautiful expanse of park-like meadow, here, at Pasargad, in a gabled temple recalling early early ziggurats and the temple at Musasir, Cyrus the Great (600-529 BC) was buried. Cyrus' temple-tomb crowns six stages which decrease in height as they progress upward, a miniature ziggurat, potent beyond any consideration of dimension.
Take your time and enjoy your visit.
MJ Omidi — Google review
Pasargadae was the first dynastic capital of the Achaemenid Empire, founded by Cyrus II the Great, in Pars, homeland of the Persians, in the 6th century BC. Its palaces, gardens and the mausoleum of Cyrus are outstanding examples of the first phase of royal Achaemenid art and architecture and exceptional testimonies of Persian civilization. Particularly noteworthy vestiges in the 160-ha site include: the Mausoleum of Cyrus II; Tall-e Takht, a fortified terrace; and a royal ensemble of gatehouse, audience hall, residential palace and gardens. Pasargadae was the capital of the first great multicultural empire in Western Asia. Spanning the Eastern Mediterranean and Egypt to the Hindus River, it is considered to be the first empire that respected the cultural diversity of its different peoples. This was reflected in Achaemenid architecture, a synthetic representation of different cultures.
The Tomb of Cyrus the Great stands proudly on the Morghab Plain, serving as the first monument visitors encounter at Pasargadae. This modest rectangular burial chamber is elevated on six tiered plinths and showcases a unique architectural blend symbolizing Cyrus's conquests. Once surrounded by gardens, this large marble edifice now sits on a barren plain. Despite its distance from Shiraz, it's a must-see for history enthusiasts.
I visited the place in the summer and it was deserted. Very few tourist. Maybe because of the heat or maybe because it is quite far from Shiraz so it might be a bit difficult to visit it if you don't have a car. Still, you can get a snap or even a taxi and it wouldn't cost more than 20 US dollars (which makes sense if you're not going alone). If you're into history, than Pasargadae is a must see, not only the tomb, but also the structures around (the gate to the city, some column etc), spread over some distance.

Pasargadae was founded in the 6th century BCE as the first capital of the Achaemenid Empire by Cyrus the Great, near the site of his victory over the Median king Astyages in 550 BCE. The city remained the Achaemenid capital until Darius moved it to Persepolis.

The tombs of the Achaemenids
Carved from a cliff on the side of a sacred mountain, here lie the tombs of four of the King of Kings of the Persian Achaemenid Empire. Beneath the tombs lie later Sassanid carvings, showing that they wanted to associate themselves with the majesty of this place. Before the tombs lies a large building called Kaaba-i-Zartosht, which to this day, no one truly knows its function. In some ways it is better preserved than nearby Persepolis and for anyone who loves history, this place will bring put you in awe.

There is no doubt that this sight is impressive, however, if you're visiting Persepolis there are already two tombs that look the same so in my opinion there is no need to come 6km extra here to see the same.. If you want to come here then I suggest you do it first because Persepolis is more impressive. You can oder a Snapp to get to and from here and there are also taxis available.

It is a historical complex with works from the Elamian, Achaemenian and Sasanian periods, which is located near the city of Shiraz. This place is the burial place of great kings such as Darius the Great and Xerxes. There are several stone carvings from different periods in this place. Kaaba Zarathustra is one of the parts of this collection whose usage is unclear. Rostam's role is registered as one of the parts of Parse in UNESCO.

Amazing incredible ancient place which is related to The Achaemenian kings (known as the First Persian Empire) graves. Also it contains various archeological sites carved into the rock wall through time from the Elamites to Sassanians.

Naghsh rostam is a must-see attraction for anyone interested in ancient history and culture. It is a site of four rock-cut tombs of Achaemenid kings and several bas-reliefs depicting scenes from different periods of Iranian history. The tombs are impressive in their size and detail, and the bas-reliefs are fascinating in their stories and symbolism. The site is well-maintained and has informative signs and guides. There is also a small museum nearby that displays some artifacts and models. The view of the surrounding mountains and desert is stunning, especially at sunset. I highly recommend visiting naghsh rostam if you are in the area.

A must to see!!! Naqsh-e Rustam, also known as The Necropolis, is an ancient necropolis located about 12 km northwest of Persepolis. It includes a group of ancient Iranian rock reliefs cut into the cliff, from both the Achaemenid and Sassanid periods. Its also an important funerary ensemble of Persian kings, particularly the grave of Darius I. Highly recommended!!!

The cube of Zoroaster seems to be used as observatory that there is some withness for observing stars, moon and sun. Although nobody is 100% sure this place used to be observatory but there are other interpratations about this place. Somebody believes here was a fire place, tomb, pantheon, shrine and so on. Also somebody believes that it wax an small library. This place is in front of 2nd Darius tomb.

Ka'ba-ye Zartosht is the name of a stone quadrangular[clarification needed] and stepped structure in the Naqsh-e Rustam compound beside Zangiabad village in Marvdasht county in Fars, Iran. The Naqsh-e Rustam compound incorporates memorials of the Elamites, the Achaemenids and the Sassanians in itself in addition to the mentioned structure.
The Ka'ba-ye Zartosht is 46 metres (151 ft) from the mountain, situated exactly opposite Darius II's mausoleum. It is rectangular and has only one entrance door. The material of the structure is white limestone. It is about 12 metres (39 ft) high, or 14.12 metres (46.3 ft) if including the triple stairs, and each side of its base is about 7.30 metres (24.0 ft) long. Its entrance door leads to the chamber inside via a thirty-stair stone stairway. The stone pieces are rectangular and are simply placed on top of each other, without the use of mortar; the sizes of the stones varies from 0.48 by 2.10 by 2.90 metres (1 ft 7 in by 6 ft 11 in by 9 ft 6 in) to 0.56 by 1.08 by 1.10 metres (1 ft 10 in by 3 ft 7 in by 3 ft 7 in), and they are connected to each other by dovetail joints. The structure was built in the Achaemenid era and there is no information of the name of the structure in that era. It was called Bon-Khanak in the Sassanian era; the local name of the structure was Kornaykhaneh or Naggarekhaneh; and the phrase Ka'ba-ye Zartosht has been used for the structure since the fourteenth century, into the contemporary era.
Various views and interpretations have been proposed about the application of the chamber, but none of them could be accepted with certainty: some consider the tower a fire temple and a fireplace, and believe that it was used for igniting and worshiping the holy fire, while another group rejects this view and considers it the mausoleum of one of the Achaemenid shahs or grandees, due to its similarity to the Tomb of Cyrus and some mausoleums of Lycia and Caria. Some other Iranian scholars believe the stone chamber to be a structure for the safekeeping of royal documents and holy or religious books; however, the chamber of Ka'ba-ye Zartosht is too small for this purpose. Other less noticed theories, such as its being a temple for the goddess Anahita or a solar calendar, have also been mentioned.
Three inscriptions have been written in the three languages Sassanian Middle Persian, Arsacid Middle Persian and Greek on the Northern, Southern and Eastern walls of the tower, in the Sassanian era. One of them belongs to Shapur I the Sassanian, and the other to the priest Kartir. According to Walter Henning, "These inscriptions are the most important historical documents from the Sassanian era." The Ka'ba-ye Zartosht is a beautiful structure: its proportions, lines and external beauty are based on well-executed architectural principles

Ka’be-ye Zartosht,’ is a large rectangular monument built on a triple stair base. There is a stairway of some thirty steps that lead to the only entrance to the building, which is in the shadow of a mountain. On the side of the ‘cube’ there are niches which served an unknown purpose. The structure has been dated to the Achaemenid Empire (553-330 BC). It was probably built by the Emperor Darius I when he moved from the Achaemenid capital, Pasargadae, where there is a similar ‘cube’.
The structure is named after the semi-mythical founder of the Zoroastrian faith , which was once the official faith of the Persian Empire. However, the structure was not always known as the Cube of Zoroaster and this name has only been used by locals since the 14th century. The monument was known by another name during the Sassanian Empire (224-661 AD) and why it has been named as the ‘cube of Zoroaster’ is a matter of conjecture. Must visit while in Iran.

Ka'ba-ye Zartosht is the name of a stone quadrangular and stepped structure in the Naqsh-e ... This does not mean that the place has been Zoroaster's mausoleum and there is also no report of the pilgrims' travels there for pilgrimage.
