Valletta

Valletta is a city of contrasts. Built on the tiny island of Malta, it is home to a number of different architectural styles and several historical buildings. The main attraction of Valletta is the capital city’s maze of narrow streets and alleyways that are flanked by rows of buildings from around the 16th century, making Valletta an ideal place for history lovers. For art lovers, the Grandmaster’s Palace, which is a neoclassical building, and the National Museum of Fine Arts fit the bill. For those who enjoy shopping, Valletta offers a unique shopping experience unlike any other in Europe.

Sights & Landmarks
Valletta's magnificent St. John's Co-Cathedral is a beautiful example of Baroque architecture and is filled with gems including paintings by Michelangelo Caravaggio. The interior was extravagantly decorated in the baroque style by Mattia Preti, and is still an active church today.
Absolutely beautiful architecture in a historic cathedral at the heart of Valetta. We visited today and the €15 ticket is absolutely worth as it funds the upkeep of the attraction (you also get the audio guide included in the price of ticket). The art and the architecture is second only to those cathedrals in Rome and the place is packed with so many artwork and history. Absolutely recommend a visit.

The history and the heart of the Order of Saint John! Absolutely stunning cathedral! Definitely you won't want to miss it! The artwork is incredible! The audioguide will tell the story of the cathedral, believe me it is very exciting! Every chapel worth a separate tour! I love come there!
Maria Sahanjancs — Google review
Very beautiful inside. The floor is amazing. It was crowded with people on a Monday morning. Not too big, less than an hour is enough for a visit. If you don't buy your tickets online you'll need to queue up for entering, so better buy tickets online. If your shoulders are visible they'll give you a sheet to cover them while you are in.
Álvaro Melgarejo Hernández — Google review
A splendid cathedral! ⭐️⭐️⭐️ She is incredibly beautiful! 😲 Of all the cathedrals I have visited to date, it’s the most beautiful to me. 🤩 You absolutely must visit this splendor. 🙏 It’s great baroque art! 👏👏 I absolutely recommend this place! 😉✍️
Emma Alex — Google review
Beautiful Co-Cathedral, the building outside looks simple, but inside is really beautiful, every single detail of it's architecture. Ask for the audio guide in the entrance because is included with the ticket. Try to dedicate at least 1 hour and a half to learn about the history of this building and the participation of the knights. Here you will see one of the Master piece of Caravaggio.
Maura Carola Tangara — Google review
It’s very stunning cathedral that I have seen across Europe. Each chapel has a unique story to tell. And the audio guide is quite detailed. But the problem is at the entrance. Some people are given headphones and some are not given and also spoke to almost rudely! Many like me complained. So the entrance was a disappointment but inside is beautiful 😍
Deepti Mehrotra — Google review
A remarkable cathedral, unique to Valletta, Malta. Its exquisite craftsmanship is truly awe-inspiring. The surrounding neighborhood exudes vibrancy and lively energy. While there is an admission fee, the experience is undeniably worthwhile. We visited this place from the cruise port terminal through walking via a lift that cost 1€ up and down. The walk was about 20 minutes each way.
Kevin Sheu — Google review
A must to visit in Valletta, the entrance fee completely worth it. The colors and details of the architecture inside are gorgeous. An audio guide is included and it’s very nice and helpful to understand the history.
Maxime MONTERDE — Google review
The cathedral is the only place that delights and tells the story of Malta. Really unique, with rich decorations, frescoes, paintings and sculptures. A unique and exceptional place that should be (for me) in the first place. Since August is absolutely drought all over Malta, the views are not very pleasing to the eye. The cathedral definitely pleases the eye, there is one downside, on Wednesday it is too hot, the whole crowd of visitors was wet like in a sauna, fans placed in many places did not cool. 1h hour, with automatic gid (in many languages).
Elena — Google review
It was beautiful inside, with so much art and such amazing architecture. Also, you have to enter dress decently. This means covered shoulders and reasonably long bottoms. There are paintings by Caravaggio that are huge. Don’t forget to look up and down inside, as there is art EVERYWHERE. There is also a crypt and a prayer room. You can only go in the prayer room to pray, the energy is so strong and intense. You are only allowed in to pray, please don’t take any pictures of the praying room, that will mess it up. It was beautiful in this cathedral. Don't miss it when you come to malta.
Gabby Last name — Google review
Stunning inside, simple on the outside. Very worth a visit! Entrance is 15 euros, audio guide included (kids under 12 free). Took about an hour to visit. The detail and artwork inside is incredible! Don’t miss this while in Malta!
Alexandra Pera — Google review
With over 16000s reviews, I don't think I'll add anything new. I would just double-check that the times it opens and work on going to see it. I mistakenly thought it would be open later in the days, so I had to rush in to see the caravaggio (only signed work by the artist... look at the saint's blood). Audio tour is included in the price. Might be in my top three cathedrals (westminster Abby and Sienna Cathedral)
Kathryn Gosciewski — Google review
Amazing. Really impressive. From the outside you would say it is very humble, but once you enter, it is completely baroque. It has so many details. Completely worth the 15 euros for the ticket.
Jaume Ávila Estivill — Google review
nice place, attractive and very interesting to learn history and admire a work of art, but you cannot pay 35 euros per person to see a church, it is something that I will never understand, it is not that the church invites people as if Was it the second house of Christians? because they charge such a price and they don't even offer you a glass of water to at least receive good attention, not even that. After the price of admission, it seems to me that the place is very good, but there are times that the price makes the most of it as well. I would like to return one day and be able to enter and if they charge, it should be a cheap “alms”. in the same way everything is expensive in malta it should be clarified
Tomas — Google review
St. John’s Cathedral is one top 3 highlights of Valletta and Malta for me. Impressive architecture and finishing. Lots of amazing paintings and sculptures. Great way to experience history. I loved the fact that there are audio guides made available for each visitor. The only original painting of Caravaggio with his own hand written signature is there. 😍
Kuba Karlinski — Google review
We are not religious but we appreciate the history and architecture of some churches and Cathedrals. The Cathedral in Valletta is the most spectacular one we have ever been in. It's absolutely stunning and well worth a visit. When you visit you must cover your shoulders and shawls are provided. There is a balcony which gives you an amazing view but there are 45 steps up to it. There is a charge for visitors.
Janice Shand — Google review
We visited Valletta in the middle of summer, august. The city Valletta is very beautiful and charming. A train goes to aquarium, many attractive souvenir stands and off-the-cut performances. I was impressed of Caravaggio‘s artworks in Saint John’s co-cathedral. There’s more to this than meets the eye.
Ryosuke KITAOKA — Google review
An absolutely stunning building. It doesn't matter if you're religious or not, this place is just breathtaking. From sculptures and detail to Caravaggio's art work, there are so many things to look at and admire. As this is a place of worship, please make sure your shoulders are covered. No vests or strappy tops. However, shawls are available.
roderick mckenzie — Google review
Such a magnificent and impressive place. Don’t let the simple façade fool you. Such a great contrast from the outside architecture and inside decorations. The audio guide was also helpful. But the guide arrangements was not very clear and logical to follow. Staffs were very willing to help however. Would strongly recommend when you’re in Malta
Thao Phuong Dao — Google review
One of the must visit places in Malta. It’s one of the nicest cathedrals I have ever been and seen. Entrance is around 12€ for students. You don’t wait long for entrance. Inside is also one chapel dedicated to Caravaggio and his artwork is amazing.
Nastja Prodanic — Google review
The moment I stepped inside, I was awestruck by the sheer opulence. The intricate marble floors, gilded altars, and soaring vaulted ceilings create an atmosphere of reverence and grandeur. But what truly stole my breath away were the two masterpieces by Caravaggio—paintings that seem to transcend time and space. The audio guide is a true asset. It seamlessly weaves historical context and artistic nuances, enriching the visitor's experience. The cathedral can get crowded, especially during peak hours. However, the throng of fellow admirers somehow adds to the sense of shared wonder. Children under 12 can explore this treasure trove for free.
Sergey Vasyagin — Google review
Magnificent cathedral of Maltase order. The entrance is paid but it is really worth a visit despite the elevated entrance fee. Perhaps from outside it doesn't look amazing but inside rich decorations and precious materials have been used which are giving astonishing look to all the interiors. This is definitely a must see in Malta & Valletta.
Katka I. (Kappa) — Google review
Visited as it was recommended. Great if you love religious history and gold. I will say it was lovely and so much detail you can't take it all in. I did find it a little pricy for what it was €15 each. You can do an additional tour for an extra €5 but the tour was every hour or so.
Claire Parker — Google review
I have visited many cathedrals and centres of worship around the world and can honestly say I have never seen one so opulently decorated as St. John's Co-Cathderal in Valetta. The amount of gold guild and the artwork is fantastic and completely overwhelming. I could visit every day for a year and still find something different to see. Astounding.
Graham Patterson — Google review
Beautiful church set in the center of Valletta. The interior is impressive in its opulence with gold pretty much everywhere. However, the most impressive sight is the Caravaggio, reputedly the largest in the world.
Ian Thompson — Google review
It was €57 for our family of 4 to go. Buy tickets in advance on their website to save time in line. The Cathedral is impressive. Be sure to cover shoulders, mid section, and knees before you go otherwise you get a paper scarf to wear.
Earthy Intuitive — Google review
Nice church, worth the visit and the €15 entrance. Audio guide is a bit outdated and long texts, but gives interesting information if you have the patience to listen. The Caravaggio room = amazing, same for the barrel ceiling! Women or people with visible shoulders have to wear a small piece of paper which is super useless and same for the reason being “out of respect” while there are dozens of tourists and it’s clearly made an attraction. But, worth the visit.

Lower Barrakka Gardens is a public park located on the outskirts of Valletta, Malta. The gardens offer stunning views of the harbor and sea, as well as monuments and sculptures. The gardens are also close to Lower Barrakka Street, a quiet area with picturesque views that is unique in Valletta.
Very beautiful and tranquil gardens. Such a joy to visit, and took me by surprise how stunning they are. Lots of lovely areas around the gardens - handing trees, balconies and arch ways for photos, and great views looking back up Valletta and across at the Three Cities.
Connie — Google review
Nice little gardens, not very large or particularly beautiful in and of themselves, but has some brilliant views across the grand harbour and to the three cities. There are a couple of small kiosks and a cafe just outside for refreshments, but nothing more substantial than that. Lots of seating available looking out to the harbour, some in the sun and some shaded. Don't go too close to the edge if you're scared of heights - it's a long way down!

Beautiful and peaceful garden. Good place to have coffee and snacks. Also, a nice meeting spot with friends enjoy the plants and birds in the garden.

Very pretty sport with a view. Park has free WiFi and a toilet and was very quiet, nice spot to relax out of the sun.
Florence Bosley — Google review
A nice little garden facing the harbour and the 3 Cities. Perfect for sunset and there are a lot of benches to sit and enjoy the view. Near the entrance of the garden has some restaurants/ kiosk to buy food and drinks. Easy for a hot day to hang out. I came here when the flowers blossom, so made it even more beautiful.
Catherine C — Google review
Definitely a beautiful view the Mediterranean from this outlook post. Even though it’s a little bit lower in altitude than the upper gardens, it has a unique perspective of the city. Particularly, the bell across with the sleeping solder statue (commemorating the departure of British Colonialists) and the open sea are much visible form here. The garden itself, in my opinion, is much more well kept than the upper one. Also, there were a lot less people here as well compared to up there. Worth a visit. Snap a few pics and learn a little history!
Nabil R — Google review
I loved the place ! Refreshing feeling from the sea breeze! Amazing view ,relaxing square! I likes it more than the upper Barrakka Gardens!
Eleftheria Zapridou — Google review
Beautiful smaller gardens than Upper Barrakka Gardens, but we'll worth a look. Perched overlooking the grand harbour it has a tranquil feel with lovely trees for a shady time out. There is a good cafe and a restaurant as you enter the gardens for refreshment.

Quiet, well maintained and pretty. My favourite of the gardens in Valletta. Its away from the cannon salute so slightly less crowded. Really lovely views of the harbour and city. Definitely worth a visit if nearby!

Beautifully view of the most beautiful harbour in the world, Valletta Grand Harbour! The gardens has breathtaking views and excellent spot to relax and take photos. The small Kip's at the entrance of the lower Barakka serve delicious food with reasonable prices.

Lower Barrakka Gardens offers a tranquil escape within the bustling city of Valletta, Malta. The beautifully landscaped gardens provide a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to enjoy panoramic views of the Grand Harbour. The historical monuments and charming pathways enhance the experience, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a peaceful oasis with a touch of history.

The Gardens (upper/lower) are worth the visit. Take the ferry from Sliema to Valletta. Then up the streets to Hastings gardens. Take a short walk and you can see the Upper gardens. Then, it is possible to take the elevator to save time and walk to the left up a bit. You can see the Lower gardens easily. Right next to the gardens you have the Bell monument. There are numerous restaurants and coffee shops around. Nice lunch and good coffee available.

Lovely garden to stop by on a nice day. Great views of the water and harbors, plenty of greenery, and a small building reminiscent of a Roman temple in the center. Recommended to anyone that is exploring Valletta.

Upper Barrakka Gardens in Malta is a beautiful public square and garden with stunning views. It is one of the most popular tourist spots in Valletta and is usually very busy, but on a quiet day it can be quite peaceful.
Combines a small attractive garden (trees, flowers, paths, ornamental pond) with stunning views of Grand Harbour. From the viewing gallery one can watch the firing of the cannon of the saluting battery below. There's a small open air cafe selling drinks, ices and basic sandwiches. A good place to relax for a few minutes.
John Dersley — Google review
A beautiful, very attractive garden at the top of Valletta, with incredible views. I think the best views of Valletta as well as across to the Three Cities. There are plenty of opportunities for stunning photographs, particularly around the two rows of stone archways at the back. There are public loos and a kiosk for refreshments and food. I found the Lower Barrack Gardens to be more beautiful and peaceful, and certainly less people, but the Upper Gardens have a ‘Saluting Battery’ which features a gun that is fired at midday and at 4pm everyday except Sundays which is certainly a spectacle to be seen. To view the gun being fired in the Saluting Battery, tickets are 3 euros per adult, otherwise you can stand on the balcony above it (through the archways) and have a good view - though worth getting there early as people line up quickly along the balcony, and so you might not have a clear view if you arrive late.
Connie — Google review
Decent little park, nice view… there’s cannons that go off once a day I heard, there’s a cafe… a few cute cats… and horse drawn carriages offering city tours just outside the gates.

Amazing views. Lots and lots of people. Great place to take photos. We went there Sunday and sadly the canons don't shoot on these days , so If you wanna see them visit another day

We visited the gardens today to watch the cannon fire and had a good time. The gardens are located above the harbour and provides the best views of the 3 cities. The place is full of memorials and monuments of icons like Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill and Thomas Maitland. Recommend visiting at noon for firing of cannons so that the visit covers everything.

To watch the gun firing in the Saluting Battery, tickets are €3 per adult, otherwise you can stand on the balcony above it and have a better view. It is good to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early for a better view. I expected him to shoot from both cannons because he loaded them, but I don't know why he shot only one. There is a boy at the exit who collects money because they are an independent organization.

Cute place. Small little garden with good view of the harbour. It has a lift to help people coming from the other entrance. People come to rest and chill here and appreciate the view. It has a cafe inside which is nice to have a cold drink until the next stop.

This place is stunning. The view is amazing and you can walk around the garden and have a drink at the bar. If you take elevator you can catch a ferry to Three Cities. It is worth to visit. Nice place to take pictures.

This area is ideal to rest at especially during warmer months. The trees provide shade. The are plenty of benches that could accommodate 4 people that are around the garden. The sound of splashing water from the fountain is a delight to listen to whilst resting and enjoying a snack. The view overlooking the harbour is fabulous.
Gio Chan — Google review
A nice little garden with beautiful views over the harbour. It's in the centre of Valetta and easily reachable by foot. There is a gun salute all Mondays - Saturdays at 12pm. The Upper Barrakka lift can be accessed from here. It is free to go down but a ferry ticket needs to be shown to come up again. You will see a lot of stray cats in the bush resting and do not disturb them. Also, check out the film trail in the centre of the garden to see where some of the famous movies were filmed. You could spend an easy few hours in the garden for the photographic spot and a must do if you are in the city.
Swetha Mathan — Google review
Lovely place to sit, have a drink or a bite to eat. There is a restaurant with outdoor seating. A great place to walk around and take in the views of the island from within Valletta's walls. You have to experience it at night as well, the city is lit up and it's really impressive.
Karen Dunlop — Google review
Outside of the scheduled battery firing, it is really the view of the Three Cities that takes your breath away. The park itself and the botanical life wasn’t well maintained but perhaps because it was midsummer’s hottest day. I recommend going to the elevator on the corner of the park and go down to the sea level… give you that fresh perspective compare to up top! Recommended for that generic but very beautiful photo of the skyline across Valetta’s eastern shore!
Nabil Ramirez — Google review
A beautiful place with amazing story. I highly recommend to see a show at noon! It was pretty interesting to see. It's easy to get there by walk, in the early April there were a lot of people so in the summer time in must be really crowded but anyway it's worth to see.
Karolina Justyna — Google review
Cannon salutation was cool to watch. You smell the gunpowder in the air which is cool. It is at 16:00 every day, so get a spot on the upper terrace 30 mins before, gets crowded.

Beautiful architecture (in particular the arches framing the harbour) and pretty little garden. The history of this place regarding the wars is very interesting. Also a great viewing point for the cannon fire at midday.

Nice view. Every day, at noon you can see the Gun Salute. It gets pretty crowded, but I think the best view is from the garden. Also you can observe the Grand Harbour and Three Cities. Also while you are there, take a look on the elevator.

Very quiet and calm area to enjoy a coffee and admire the view. You can also watch the canon firing from upstairs. Just pay 3€ in the entrance and don't miss this amazing traditional practice at 12:00 and at 4:00 pm from Monday to Friday

The City Gate is a massive break in the fortifications that surrounds Valletta and is one of the most important historical landmarks in Malta. The gate was designed by Renzo Piano and inaugurated in February 2019. The gardens below the gate bridge are a new tourist attraction that sits right below the fortifications.
City brings you in to the the heart of Valletta great views and photo opportunities lots of places to eat and drink at reasonable prices. Plenty of places to see especially the churches which are colourful and beautiful well worth dropping in for a look just check the opening times. There are a lot of hills and steps but there a few lifts in Valletta 2 euro return. A visit to the St Paul's shipwreck Church is also worth a visit

The entrance to the capitol city of Malta. Valetta. A large open square awaits you with an impressive bridged entrance over a dry moat into the city. The gates are marked by two large flag poles, and once across, the streets of Valetta unfold in front of you like a maze. Just outside the gates sits the impressive Triton fountain. Unfortunately it was not in flow this visit. The main bus terminal also sits just outside the gates.

Historic Amazing A must-watch city Very cheap parking is available just next to the entrance of the city, but slots are limited. There is a 30-minute train trip starting from Triq San Gwann; the address is 7 St. John Square, Valletta, Malta. The Knights Hospitaller built Valletta's structures in the 16th century. The town has the name of Jean Parisot de Valette, who during the Great Siege of Malta was successful in protecting the island from an Ottoman attack. The architecture of the city is mostly baroque with touches of Mannerism,

The National Museum of Archaeology in Malta is home to a stunning collection of artifacts from the Neolithic period, including pottery, stone tools, and female figurines. The museum also has a collection spanning from 5200 BCE to 2,500 BCE.
This museum is an absolute must when visiting Valletta. The baroque building features a gorgeous grand salon. The exhibits on Maltese archeology range from neolithic times to the Phoenicians. They are very structured, visual and offer detailed and interesting insights in Maltese prehistoric times.

It's a quite interesting museum of history. It looks small from outside but there actually are 2storeys and filled of all the othe ages wonders. I liked the little playroom for children, esp the fact that they prepare a special time slot for SEN children to use as a quiet room. The building itself is a beautiful historic building which they're still restoring.

I learnt a lot about Malta's archaeological history. I would have loved more visual representations of how the structures and artifacts would have been used during the different era's. Also the Archaeology building is falling apart, but its a heritage building, so I'm surprised it's not being looked after.

It was a nice place to visit. The place was missing a structure a bit, but it was interesting otherwise. Totally recommend to see kt when you visit Valletta. I don't know if it was only our luck, but it was not crowded and we got to see all the exhibitions without any troubles.

Museum in heart of Valletta where you can see all about Maltese Islands’ prehistory and early history. With artefacts dating back from Malta’s Neolithic period (5900-2500BC) up till the early Phoenician period (8th – 6th Century BC), the National Museum of Archaeology is definitely your first step to understanding the richness of the land you tread on, its people and their ancestors.

One more very well done museum. Absolutely worth the ticket. Well structured and informative. Almost 2 hours for a detailed visit.
Vanya Mihaylova — Google review
For the existing displays had an excellent presentation... Wish the museum was bigger, however was worth the entrance fee especially when comparing to some other museums and sites in Malta.
Evan Bougiouris — Google review
Make sure to look upwards in the entrance, before the ticket turnstiles as there is a studding allegory painted onto the ceiling. The whole building is a great example of Baroque architecture in Malta. Two adult tickets was €10, we visited at about 2:30pm and there was no queue. The museum has free Wi-Fi which is strong enough to access their webpage audioguide, however we lost Wi-Fi signal when we reached the first floor. The ground floor covers the Neolithic region, with a lot of information and artefacts taken from Malta’s megalithic temples for preservation. There is no aircon in the museum with exception to The Phoenician Period room, but large floor fans are situated in most rooms. The lift wasn’t working, and there are a lot of stairs between each floor for anyone with accessibility issues. The collection across the whole museum is very impressive and I think everyone will find something (hopefully many things) that is highly fascinating to them. For me, it was seeing the original sculptures and carved stones taken from the Tarxien Temples, photos from the 1916 excavation, and learning about the mysterious deep cart ruts that have been discovered in Malta.
Connie — Google review
We really liked the archaeology museum. Tickets were only 5€ each, very good value for money. Very interesting exhibits. We spent 1.5 hour but it was nowhere near enough to see everything, which we did not quite expect, so I would recommend budgeting for a lot more time. We only got through the ground floor in that time plus a bit of the first floor. Would go back to see the rest for sure!

The neolithic section on the ground floor boasts an impressive collection of neolithic statues and artefacts from Malta, and it’s a great introduction to the main archeological sites on the island (which will help you plan the trips for the following days!). There are also sections covering the Bronze age and Phoenician period. As often in Malta, there is a wealth of information available to the visitor. there are audioguides in different languages, and information panels in both English and Maltese.

Interesting museum about the history of Malta. 5 euro to enter. Not very big will only take an hour to walk around. I reccomend going if you love history or interested in history of Malta, if not skip this museum.

Sensational museum conveniently located in a magnificently appropriate formerly Knights of Malta related building. Amongst the extensive range of artifacts are important Neolithic figurines and Phoenician stone carvings and recreated scenes and abundant religious, agricultural and everyday objects. Multiple rooms contain the collections. The unique vast coin collection is properly curated and laid out including an almost complete ancient Roman Caesarian collection. Easy to navigate with both a multi-lingual brochure and talking guide. Helpful staff is a real bonus. Recommend, thank you!

Learnt a lot about the archeological aspects of Malta. Not a professional in archeology but the pieces displayed were cool and the topics were quite intriguing. I like the comics. They were creative and funny!

A small but interesting museum. A unique collection of coins dating back several thousand years.

Nice little museum but located on one of the busiest streets in Valletta. That being said for the entry price it's worth a visit if you're out shopping.

Coffee shop
Caffe Cordina is a venerable old-school coffee shop in the heart of Valletta's pedestrianised centre.
It was a wonderful experience to dine in at the famous Caffe Cordina in Valletta. Established in the first half of 1800s, it is a very popular Caffe with good choice of food. We started with traditional Maltese pastries and fresh orange juice. For main course, we ordered Fried Local Traditional Rabbit as I always wanted to try rabbit in Malta. It was awesome. For desserts, we ordered vanilla brioche and pudina cakes. If you ever visit here, try to dine inside the cafe and admire the wonderful interiors.

Lovely atmosphere. Delicious pastries and snacks. Prices are reasonable for a pastries from €3.95 to €4.25. Meals are also reasonably priced as well. Food taste good. Seen a lot of reviews about the pigeons but they didn’t seem bad to us, a few here and there walking around. Didn’t bother us. Would recommend.

Quite a busy environment but the food was great! Had two of their maltese specialities, one sweet and one savoury and i loved them both! Prices were good considering the portions of food you get! Also props to all the waiters and waitresses there they were all incredible!

Must go when in Valletta, but be ready to stand in the queue. The service is very good and quick, they obviously know what they’re doing. Had the best coffee and great selection of cakes. And of course the atmosphere is like going back in time. We went back couple of times.

One of the best cafes in Valletta. It’s strategically located in the tourist spot. Very nice and beautifully decorated cafe. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The service was fast and the staff were friendly, they served you well. Many reviews said it can be a long queue during high season but it was fine for me in January.

Great sitting outside and people watching and have a good brunch. I think their cakes and pastries are better than there meals but that is just from one visit. Overall really enjoyed it and the brids didn't ruin the exp.

Very nice location. The staff was very kind and helpful! The inside is very beautiful and nice decorated. The catalogue has a plenty of sweet options and coffee was also very nice. We would definitely go again!

This is a grand old cafe present a great location in Malta. The place can be a bit chaotic with a lot of crowd but the staff are friendly in accommodating guests. We took two Ftiras and a vanilla milkshake. The food isn't great as I expected but the shake was quite good. The overall experience and service is very satisfactory and I can recommend the cafe for a quick drink or a coffee.

Had soft drinks, coffee and cakes here. Getting someone to take your order took longer than normal. Wanting to pay took a while too. The cakes are delicious.

Love the atmosphere at this beautiful place. We always come here when in Malta to sit outside in the square seating area. This years visit was on a hot September day and there were fans working, making it very pleasant under the umbrellas. We stop to enjoy a couple of coffees, bottle of water and just chill out and watch the world go by for a while. Serving team have always been friendly and helpful and are great at remembering your orders. Haven't reviewed the food as we haven't eaten here....something we always say we should change! There's always a large choice on the menu and inside too. Prices are reasonable too for a large tourist spot, 3 lattes and 2 bottles of water for less than €20. Lots of reviews mention pigeons, there were some running about looking for scraps but we've never found them a problem to be honest...if one does jump on your chair or table just shoo it off. This lovely spot is a great place to take a break from a walk around Valletta.

Great service while sat outside. Good place to people watch. Coffee and pastries were good.

Top rated and truly deserves it! In the centre of Valleta , just upfront the Biblioteka and Queen Victoria monument. Excellent interior , but it's better to sit outside enjoying good weather and sun, and watching people walking while drinking 🍸 or having light lunch or dinner or brunch ,or just cup of coffee. Not to miss !

Must visit this place when in Valetta. Its legendary! The staff is polite, professional&quick! The place is amazing, you feel posh. Variety of food drinks amd sweets! Pricewice it was very good for what they offer; I live in an EU country and it was very similar to my country prices for such an experience. We had 2 sweets and 2 coffee for 17€. Will return❣️

Hello, we have been to this restaurant a total of 3 times because we didn't want to give up hope. The first time we were brought the bill immediately after ordering because the waiter had finished work. The staff didn't want to make any sales as they never asked if we wanted another drink. Dirty dishes were left around every day and nobody cleared them away so that the pigeons ate from the plates on the tables. In general it is very unhygienic, we were seated at dirty tables every time. There were dirty rags on the serving trays and and and... Pigeons everywhere without anything being done about it. Food was OK but definitely not worth the price. Staff is clearly overworked. Not again!

Just came here for a quick pit stop and tried some of the small dishes. Highlight being their steak pie which was moreish! Didn’t wait too long to get seated and was served promptly. Thank you

Lovely place to visit. Reminds me of an old fashion cafe. Great selection of cakes on offer. Staff needs to be more observant of their customers on arrival, as we waited a while to be served. Staff chatting amongst themselves. Toilet facilities were clean. It's definitely worth a visit whilst in Valletta.

Nenu The Artisan Baker, a family-owned bakery in Malta specializing in ftira, the traditional Maltese pizza. Choose from a variety of toppings, all made with ingredients indigenous to Malta. Ta' Nenu is the place to go for ftira if you're travelling with children.
We had an excellent dinner here. The food was heaven, we loved everything we ordered. The most interesting was the rabbit liver stew. The traditional bread had an extravagant amount of toppings, it was really yummy. One of the best fish soups we’ve ever had, it had lots of fish and rice and potatoes and great seasoning. The portions are very generous, so I would suggest to skip your lunch and come here for an early dinner. It’s very popular, so make a reservation or come around the opening time. Would happily eat here again.

One of the finest restaurants in the town, ambience is pretty cool and food too. I would recommend to visit early else you end up not eating special dishes. The food portions are quite huge so hungry birds are welcome. Service is fast and welcoming.

We enjoyed a beautiful lunch in an amazing restaurant. The food was well presented and tasted delicious and authentic. The rabbit, roast chicken, pea and ham hock soup were outstanding. Loved the Maltese potatoes that accompanied the main dishes. The restaurant itself is quite and relaxing. The service was excellent. We will definitely be back to sample more of your menu.

We had a work dinner last week and their service was above and beyond! The location is very convenient which makes it an excellent choice for such events. I liked the traditional look that they have maintained since this place was an all bakery. Now let’s get to the food. Great quality with a lot of traditional dishes to try. This was my first time eat horse and rabbit and I can say that I am intrigued. They make an exceptionally delicious rabbit ravioli which I have to say that was my absolute favourite and the one that I have to strongly recommend. Of course their bread is groom implacable quality!!! It is an old bakery after all. Will definitely visit again to try more dishes 😊

We had a great time at Nenu, food was delicious! Fortunately we were asked twice if we’d like two portions of rabbit stew; we decided to go for one which was definitely enough for two people (together with a starter and dessert). The staff was very kind and friendly and helped us with really good recommendations. We appreciated the quality of the service here a lot!

Our group had the shared starter plate and we were hooked. Best meal we've had in all of Europe! Then we ordered 2 different ftajjar and the garlic Rabbit. Everything was amazingly flavorful! Portions were huge. Our waiter Jeremy shared a ton of information on Maltese food, history, and culture. He also showed us the hundred+ year old wood oven; it is 4 meters deep! I'd love to have the time to eat my way through the entire menu!

Great Maltese food! We went there for lunch 2 times this week, because of their anchovy fritter and wonderfully cooked rabbit (both the rabbit liver dish and the traditionally roasted rabbit). It's definitely worth visiting! And their breads are fantastic, the best bread we have had thus far in Malta.

THIS RESTAURANT IS AMAZING. It’s so good that we ate at this location twice and the other location once. Amazing service, absolutely amazing food. You will need to book since this restaurant is very popular. The menu lists typical Maltese dishes. We had the braised rabbit and the sea bass which were both delicious. The deserts didn’t suit our tastes so choose carefully!

First time trying rabbit and horse meat! Sauces were flavourful and meat was cooked well. Especially enjoyed the desserts (ricotta tart, date diamond, ice cream selection), definitely a must try. Service was impeccable as well!

The portions of rabbit dish is quite big, and it is full of meat. It would be better to share one dish with two people maybe. The starter was quite nice; however we didn't enjoy the main dishes that much. Maybe the rabbit meat was not for us.

Went for dinner and asked for help in regards to vegan options. Got great help from our waiter Jeremy who could accommodate both me and my non-vegan partner. Amazing food, service and ambience. We even got to see the 200 year old oven before we left, amazing experience! Jeremy also informed us about the other restaurant with the same owner which happens to be closer to our hotel, we'll be sure to check that out before we leave Malta.

Menu The Artisan Baker is an original artisan bakery also a love traditional bakery and restaurant. The menu is full of lovely genuine traditional Maltese dishes. We chose the Rabbit and decided to skip having a starter on this occasion. The main course was very generous in size and came with a dish of delicious potatoes to accompany the Rabbit. We were also given plenty of wonderful crusty bread from the bakery. Prices were very reasonable and the staff friendly and helpful.

It's best to reserve a table ahead of time as this restaurant is really popular, and for good reason. They have a great selection of Maltese dishes, all very delicious. We had, pork belly and rabbit liver for starters, then horse meat, rabbit and ta nenu pizza for main course... no matter how full you get... the date fritters (mqaret) are a must! Although the restaurant was extremely busy, the service was friendly and efficient and courteous at all times. Also good value for money! Will definitely visit again :)

Dinner for 2. Fantastic to end a long afternoon walking La Valeta, getting inmersion in authentic Maltese atmosphere. We even noticed many tables were with local people, which for me is always a good sign of success in our choice for the restaurant. They were very kind to change our reservation even they were busy (we reserved at 22 and we showed at 20) Fast service and abundant dishes, with a real flavour of typical Malta, dressed with 2 musicians playing live local songs. In my view, also cheap for the full experience.
Antonio FG — Google review
A unique and wonderful dining experience in terms of location, food, and atmosphere. If only horse meat was not on the menu, this place would've been just about perfect. The Ftira is an awesome meal in any flavor, and there are plenty of other protein-based options to satisfy any taste. The interior design and layout feel like the dungeon of a medieval castle, and that's a plus. Prices are reasonable for such a memorable experience.

I went to this restaurant twice time to attend to a clients. The interior, food, and service were all really great, and my clients were also very satisfied 😊 Everything here is seasoned just right, especially the rabbit meat that is usually served in red wine stew, but here you can enjoy it in white wine stew, so be sure to order it. Both waiters and waitresses always provided the best service, giving me the time to translate and explain things to my clients. I will definitely visit again, thank you so much 😊

We found this bistro by chance and although they were expecting two group bookings they found us a table. The service was amazing, very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious I had Hake as a main course and my friend had the lamb. Both were delicious. We both had the fish soup to start which was really tasty. Its not the cheapest place but it was worth the money as I couldn't fault it and would definitely go back when I visit Malta again.

This is considered to be one of the best restaurants in Valletta, although I wouldn’t agree. The food was good but average. We started our meal with the cod fritters as a starter, couldn’t taste the fish. I had the risotto with bone marrow which was a bit bland. My partner had the rigatoni with sausage which was good but again, not amazing. As for the service, we believe that it could have been better, it felt a bit rushed but also forgotten about. As for the atmosphere, it is well decorated but small.

When I was 20, I had to endure the loss of a friend and my grandfather in the same day. I thought it had been the hardest thing in my life, until I tried to eat your meal. It has nothing special, besides the place is small, too small and looks cheap, there are so many things on the walls that it becomes visual pollution. I went happy because it has good reviews and because of the menu prices I thought it would be an incredible experience...

The location of this restaurant is unique and pretty amazing, as it has a magnificent view of the Grand Harbour. The staff greeted us with a cordial request to observe COVID protocols when moving around and presented us with their menu. They are aiming for (or emulating) Michelin star status with their selected a la carte menu and the taster menu. A lot of bodies around, (most of them students, I was told) but no extra speedy service. The presentation of both starters and mains was similar and ‘artistic’ and the portion sizes very similar too. The food was nice - we enjoyed it , but sharing was quite difficult due to the small portions. The free flowing bread was well received by all. The bill reflected the restaurant’s Michelin star aspirations too.

My partner and I visited here on our last night in Malta as part of his birthday. This place was absolutely flawless. We were both overwhelmed by the incredible food, service, atmosphere and little details. We both agreed that this was the best meal we’ve ever had, with everything being perfectly presented and cooked. My partner had the beef tartare and the catch of the day, which was so fresh. I had the gnocchi to start and the steak (which quite literally melted in my mouth). The staff were exceptional- Dimitris, our server, was so friendly and attentive. One of the staff recommended a beautiful wine, telling us about where it came from in Malta. Every dish is named after a place in Malta and the staff give you cue cards with information about each place prior to your dish arriving (we were also told we could keep these cards to take home). Another lady gave us small bags of cured salt at the end of our meal with the bill, which were branded with the restaurant’s logo and prepared by the chef. Just fabulous small details that made our night so memorable. If you’re looking for somewhere special in Malta, don’t think twice, just book this place. You won’t be disappointed!

I had an overall positive experience at the harbour club. Service was a bit slow to start with and it took a while until we were able to order drinks. We were seated at the time table down the stairs, which is very nice, but as it's behind the servers area there's a lot commotion, which can be a bit irritating. Once we ordered, service was very fast and professional. The food was really nice. A lot closer to "fine dining" than I expected. Portions were good and plates were beautifully decorated. They location is great too. You can go for a walk before or after dinner along the stunning Waterfront in Valetta. I'll definitely be back.

Stunning food and ambience, and well worth a visit. Two courses is €55, 3 courses €70, degustation menu €85. We started with a delicious aperitif from their cocktail menu (~€8-9), a Passion Fruit & Ginger Margarita, and a Bond’s Smokey Secret, with rum, triple sec, lime, Falernum (an alcoholic spiced syrup), and crème de cacao (syrup liqueur), with a torched slice of pineapple. Both cocktails had sharp, perceptible flavours, were well balanced and beautifully presented. We were both served two Amuse-bouche: a small shot of aerated cold onion creamy soup, and a pecorino cheese tartlet, served alongside a basket of slices focaccia and Maltese breads. All excellent. Starters were mouth-wateringly delicious - a Lampuki (mahi-mahi) tartare with sliced cucumber ribbons and capers, and a truly divine bowl of pappardelle, organised in rose-shaped parcels, with red mullet and mussels in a butter sauce. Thoroughly delicious and was finished all too soon! It went superbly with the Maltese Chardonnay I had alongside. For our main course we shared two dishes as it was too hard to decide on just one - an exquisite veal fillet served with a polenta cake (like a hash brown) and a veal and corn ragout, and the Pork fillet, also very tasty, thinly sliced and served in a nutty jus, with roasted red pepper and red onion. Our meals were accompanied with a bowl of new potatoes with dill and coriander seed and a light creamy dressing. The Harbour Club benefits from the very peaceful backdrop of the sea overlooking the three cities. Very knowledgable staff who talk you through the menu and individual ingredients, and share little stories on postcards before each course to explain the background of the meal and history of its name (the meals are named after streets in Valletta).

My family and I were initially excited to see this restaurant opening for the evening, but as soon as we got there they told us to wait outside for 10min, despite already being open for a while. I would advise to keep your information up to date in oder to not shy away people. And I would say even if we were early, you could have offered us to sit inside and wait, instead of shooing us out to the cold. Can't believe this is the service at a Michelin recommended restaurant.

The Is-Suq Tal-Belt is a recent restored market in Valletta that embodies the city’s newly rejuvenated spirit.
Variety of cuisines. There's a food court and a food market. We tried the Nepalese & Indian food and it was amazing. Wish we had more time so that we could have tried all the cuisines and various options. A must visit.

We started out with the duck spring rolls and fried rice with vegetables which were pretty good, good flavour and tasted fresh. As a main course we wanted something maltese and picked the rabbit and the whitebait fritters, both of which we did not finish, the lack of taste and unpleasant texture did not live up to our expectations at all. I do not recommend the maltese stand here, I cannot say the same about the chinese place since it was very nice.

An interesting choice of cuisines. I opted for rabbit stew, which I haven't eaten for fifty years or so. Lots of other things to try. It's not cordon bleu of course but we'll worth the ten euros. Highly recommended if you are on a budget or even if you aren't.

Yes, this is the place you're looking for! Inside this building there is a massive food court which offers all sorts of dishes from across the globe. Pearl bubble tea is available from a counter in the center. Downstairs appears to be a supermarket but I didn't visit that floor. The place is clean and well maintained, but long waits for the bathroom.

Sick of pasta, pizzas, kebabs and Maltese classics? Then come here. You have Filipino, Indian, Americana, Hawaiian Poke and many more varieties! I could classify this place as a food court with assorted options. Great for quick bites with very little waiting in line — even non peak hours. Minus -1 star because the table busker kept on trying to retrieve my plates even though I clearly still had food on it. Overall, would come back here if I’m craving some variety dishes in Valetta!

Awesome place with so many cuisines to choose from - japanese, middle eastern, mexican, indian, maltese, italian etc. Had sushi on one night, chinese (sweet & sour with rice) & middle eastern (falafel salad plate) the other night - both dinners were top notch, fresh food. As you'd expect from a food court, the prices are much cheaper in comparison to restaurants (same with alcohol prices). Really cool vibes + in the basement of the food court there's also a supermarket which is very convenient.

We went there three times in the terrace during our stay. Service 2/3 times was very good and friendly, last time, server was not friendly, we were waiting long to be served or just to order. Rabbit pasta was my favourite dish there, followed by the traditional soup, also i had seafood salad which was good but nothing special. We didnt expect cocktails to something we will remember, but yes, watermelon martini was just awesome. Why we came back was the fantastic atmosphere and live music which were played by lovely musicians. Overall great place to spend with your significant other or friends. This place was not very cheap, but you are in Valletta centre, so in contrast with other restaurants it was not that pricey.

I like the concept of this food market. You can try different cuisines and find something tasty every time you come: Mexican, Nepalese, Maltese, Italian, Philippine, etc. There is also a supermarket below. However, it's always crowded. I know it's not the fault of the vendors, but finding a place to sit can be tricky.

Great choice of food and a supermarket downstairs. We tried: Banh mi bao buns with chicken and duck The burger room chicken wings meal and a classic fried chicken burger meal We also treated ourselves to an apple crumble which was absolutely delicious too. What we liked is the ability to see your food being prepared freshly and plenty of seating that is constantly cleaned. Great location and a beautiful building A foodie must do!

I was honestly disappointed! I wanted to visit a market and I read online that it is an iconic food market. Turns out it’s just a normal grocery store. The bakery section which apparently should be fresh with goodies was also a disappointment, with packed food. If you look for a normal grocery store it’s fine.

A food court with a variety of food from pizza, pasta, Mexican, Indian and Chinese. One of the main things here, especially if you are staying in Valletta, is that there is a supermarket in the basement, which is super important as there isn't an other supermarkets that size in Valletta. I would give a higher rating but the drinks prices are a joke. The food is good value but 7.50 for 2 cokes.

Cam on here for dinner. It’s on 3 floors-supermarket in basement, street food on 1st floor and restaurant on 2nd. We went for Nepalese (Everest) and had 2 dishes (pictured) cost £25 euros. Great food

It is a pleasant place with good prices and a Ton of food options. Nice decor and windows to the former market. Overall a good place to shop just really far from where I stay. The food court has 2 levels with an elevator so no one gets left out of neither the shop downstairs or the extra seating upstairs.

Great selection of food and drinks in the heart of Valletta. Highly recommend the curries from Everest the Indian/Nepal restaurant. Can be a bit busy at lunchtime, although there are plenty of seats on the two floors. Ideal if you want to eat slightly later in the day
