It is the 14000 feet high peak from sea level. You can take gandola phase 2 to reach here from the gulmarg. It cost rs 1700. You can book the gandola tickets in advance. We visited in September there was no snow. I have visited this place few years back in june month and there was lots of snow. The peak usually covers with snow all around the years. Weather was very good and it was all cloudy. It felt like heaven because of the cloud. We had Maggie and kahwa at the peak it was different experience to have hot Maggie at 0 degree and at the height of 14000 ft peak. Must visit place in Kashmir highly recommend.

Apharwat is a beautiful Mountain which is situated in Gulmarg. During our family trip to ‘Kashmir’ one day we visited Apharwat Mountain through cable car at ‘Gulmarg Gondala’. As it is the prime attraction of Gulmarg, there is a heavy rush of tourists on every day. The ticket for first phase is Rs. 750/- and from first phase to second phase is Rs.900/- . We went to phase 2 Apharwat Mountain from Kongdoori phase 1. The cable ride was very comfortable and enjoyable. Once we reached the pick it was snow everywhere. There are so many activities for our enjoyment. Over all experience was very good for us and we enjoyed the ride very well.

One of the must visit place in Kashmir. The weather keeps changing and there is snow throughout the year. With and amazing view of the entire Gulmarg. Also its highest gandola points in the world.

The decision to climb up the Apharwat peak was one of the best I made during my Gulmarg trip. It was an experience of a lifetime. Apharwat peak is the highest point of Pirpanjal range. It is situated 4390 meters (14,400 feet) above mean sea level. You can reach half way around in the gondola ride, thereafter you need to climb up to the summit. I trekked up during the peak of winter season. The roads leading to the summit made by indian army was all ice laden, so I had to climb steep up through thick snow. It is all fun and beautiful till you are in the gondola ride, but up here, you get to see the mighty nature in all it's glory. There weren't anybody else except for two of our local guides and me and my co - trekkers. It is highly recommended that you take a local fellow who knows the terrain if you are climbing uphill, since there will be treacherous snow trodden rocky paths. If you get stuck or injured, it will be highly unlikely that someone will find you for hours together if you are all on your own. The climb to the summit will take 2.5hrs from the gondola station phase 2 and it's around 2km straight up. There are no shops Or equipment renting places available at phase 2, so you have to come well prepared. On the other side of the summit is the Alpather lake or the frozen lake, which will remain snow covered and frozen throughout winter. The LoC and PoK is barely 3-4km from the summit. It will be a rather easy trek if you are visiting during summer, as the road to the summit will be snow free. The serenity of this place is beyond words. If you are an adventure seeker and want to go offbeat in Gulmarg, you have got to see this for yourself.

Gulmarg Gondola

Mentioned on
Mountain cable car
Transportation
The Gulmarg Gondola, located in the hill station of Gulmarg, is the world's second highest and second longest cable car. It offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area at an altitude of 14,000 feet above sea level. In addition to skiing, visitors can trek to Apharwat peak or explore nearby attractions like Yusmarg for horse riding and fresh water fishing. The Sand-e-Safed Valley also offers a challenging 10 km trek to a frozen lake.
It's a very well maintained system at the gondola. Pray that it doesn't snow when at the base or 1st phase, cause if it does then the phase 2 closes down. They check the ticket and personal ID while entering the place.. do arrive early to avoid the rush. It's a very scenic trip up the gondola... Do plan your tickets in advance and then plan the rest of Kashmir itinerary accordingly...

Some tips for tourists : * While taking horse rides, communicate clearly about price and distance so that you won't get cheated. * Cable car is the easy way to the destination. Consider trekking only if it isn't very cold and you are very healthy & you really need to trek. It's a tough trek. Also, travel in groups as there can be wild animals as per the information from local people. Good thing while trekking is that you can walk through the villages on your way up. * Please be careful not to pollute the place (with plastic).

View was amazing. Lush greenery since we went in July and it was not snowy white as it is in winter. One can observe Different hues of Nature in few minutes of cable car experience. Most disappointing part was the queue. One of the worst way to managing crowd and no process in place to bring ease to visitors. If it's one queue it is manageable and worth the beauty that we see after long wait, but queue is at every phase and even for coming back, so in total 4 queues. Just for context, we spent about 5 hours in queue in total. cable car viewing plus wait time on top was less than 30 mins. Not worth to the time to spend in the queue. Every single person in queue was complaining.
Mazher Shaikh — Google review
I had been here with my family in October and literally it was a nightmare . The ticket booking counter was so unorganised , no law and order. 2 counters were there - one for common people and another one for guide. The guides were constantly harassing local people for booking.People were jostling to get a ticket. After paying such a huge price such type of mismanagement is not expected from the authority. But once the gondola ride starts, everything else just disappears. Panoramic view was available from the gondola. The valley was mesmerizing. We explored the phase one. It was beyond our expectation. Due to shortage of time we couldn't go to second phase. People who want to visit quaint picture-perfect places should avoid this busy place.
Ronmita Pal — Google review
This is by far the best place to visit in Kashmir. Its about 85kms from Srinagar which takes 2-3 hours to reach based on the day of the week. The Ticket to Phase-1 is Rs 740 & for Phase-2 is 950. I recommended taking the phase-2 ticket if you actually want to enjoy and play in the snow. To reach the gondola station is actually a long walk. So senior citizen should take a taxi which takes about 100-200Rs to take you there. The most time which you will spend is actually standing in the queue which is about 1-2hrs depending on the tourist season. Many people pay guides and try to cut inside queues slyly. So beware and raise your voice if you notice it.

My experience on the Gulmarg Gondola ride was both exhilarating and challenging. The gondola ride itself offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, making it a must-do activity for visitors to Gulmarg. However, one thing to note is the long waiting time. The queue for the gondola ride can be quite extensive, often taking around 3-4 hours to get to the front. To bypass the queue, my group decided to hire a guide who helped us navigate through the crowd. Having a guide made the process more efficient and saved us a significant amount of time. Once we boarded the gondola, the panoramic views from the cable car were absolutely stunning. It felt like floating above the majestic mountains and lush green meadows. The ride itself was smooth and provided a unique perspective of the beautiful landscape. Overall, I would highly recommend the Gulmarg Gondola ride for the awe-inspiring views it offers. Just be prepared for the potential wait and consider hiring a guide to enhance your experience and bypass the queue.

The Gondola ride is a great experience..although there was a queue of over 500 people approx. I recently had the pleasure of riding the Gulmarg Gondola and it was an incredible experience! The Gondola ride offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, and takes you up to a height of 5000 metres. Overall, I would highly recommend the Gulmarg Gondola to anyone visiting the area. It is an unforgettable experience and one that you will not soon forget.

Heaven on earth I would say. She is so beautiful and mesmerizing with her nature looks with all green cover around. You can reach there by cable car by online booking or by spot offline booking and ticket costs ₹800. The place is quite crowded. If you visit there during winter you can do more activities there like skiing.
Athira Unnikrishnan — Google review
Nice experience. We had our tickets booked through an online portal. It was a 30 minute wait there. No delay anymore. Phase one was fully covered with ice as it was the first week of April. We did not book the second phase. We enjoyed a lot with some activities such as, slaze, snow biking, skeeing etc. Would love to visit again. Love you Gulmarg.
Satindra Nath Datta — Google review
Extremely disappointing. This place is ruled by middlemen. On the way to Gulmarg, they mislead people to buy gumboot and heavy jacket even when there is no snow. The middlemen take commision and allow people to break the gondola queue. Honest people including very aged people and ladies with babies are waiting in queue for hours and useless lazy young guys are cutting the line and joining the cable car by bribing agents. There are no medical facilities or other amenities on the top, if someone gets dead sick they are left to God's grace. We spent 4.5 hours in queue because of middlemen. There are no police men to control. My piece of advice, Please Save some more bucks, plan in advance and visit Jungfrau, much better deal. Unfortunately, I am saying this being an Indian :( Location is really scenic. I wish they can do much better job.

It is something everyone should experience when visiting Kashmir. One of the major attractions in Gulmarg. The Gondola ride is about 10mins but it is worth experiencing. Charges are 750 for a person until Phase-1 and 950rs if you want to travel to phase 2. You can buy the tickets from phase 1 or you can book it online.
Ameer Mohammed — Google review
Fact is the 1 if you booked guide 800rs so he take you directly. Barke the line and add you in middle and officer not say any.. cause of the everything is setting between guide and officers. 2 During snow time charge you more. Car even horse riding Don't give much money.. If you able to walk so must walk from the parking place it's hardly 10 min walk 1.5 km they miss guide you need to go so far and all.. Over all good experience cause of snowfall when we reach. So worth the money.

Gondola is one of the best attractions of Gulmarg. Almost all tourists go here. There are two phases of Gondola ride. When we visited only Phase 1 was open. The ride takes less than 3mins and is worth the price. Best attraction of Gulmarg.

The ropeway in Gulmarg to visit Phase-I & II. One needs to book in advance. It's very costly affair (₹ 800 for phase-I & ₹ 1800 for phase-II). Charges should be ₹ 300 & 500. Advise to use horse to visit instead of Gondola (negotiate horse charges between ₹ 1100 to 1200). It's better to visit Gulmarg from December to mid March when one need not to go phase-I & II because will find snow. at base camp itself.

Very good experience in a Gondola ride. Always book advance tickets. Tme slot is not a matter. They accept same day tickets. Inside you can enjoy it a lot. In the winter season only phase 1 is good enough to see snow. Enjoy with your family.

Heavenly experience. Must see must do attraction in Gulmarg. Book tickets in advance, it costs 1k per person for both phases. Phase 1 takes you to halfway mountain that has variety of activities like skiing, sledging etc. Even if you are not interested, you can spend time playing in snow. Phase 2 takes you to the summit of Aparhat mountain. The view from here is breath taking. Snow covered peaks all around you is a experience you cannot miss

A thrilling experience offering panoramic views of the majestic Himalayas. The two-phase ride takes you to lofty heights, where you can admire snow-capped peaks and verdant valleys. However, long queues and weather-related closures may affect the experience. The place was amazing! but the only thing is there was too much rush when we went and had to wait for a while to get on the cars. BUT THE WAIT IS WORTH IT!!! Do go to phase 2 of the gondola , it’s just heaven out there!

The experience of riding the Gulmarg Gondola is one of its kind! The mesmerizing view of the surrounding looks unreal. We visited in mid December and it had just snowed few days back. The snow covered mountains were a treat to the eyes. You have to take union taxi till the taxi stand as they don't allow private vehicles during winter as you need snow chains. Locals try to sell you jacket and shoes mentioning you will need it in extreme snows. We were asked to pay ~4500, but you can bargain and get those at around ~1000 or even less. Once you reach the taxi stand, you will be asked to take a guide. Gondola ride (Cable car) station is at a walking distance and you can wander the place on your own without any local guide. You can book the cable car tickets online so you don't have to wait in the queue. There are 2 phases, but we just visited the 1st one where you can get to experience almost all the activities. The view on the top is breath taking! You can try out Skiing, ride a Snowmobile or just enjoy the view. Locals try to charge you exorbitant price for the activities, but you can bargain and bring the prices down by almost 80-90% Out of all the places we visited in Kashmir, this was by far the best!

No arrangement for queue management and the persons called Himself as guides will ruin your day if you avoid them wisely. I posted 4 stars because of the beautiful nature. There are 2 phases and the section called phase 2 is more favourite to me. The ticket fee is around 1820 for 2 phases.

The nature is at its best but the management is pathetic. A lot of improvement required. Surprised to see only one toilet for 3 different mountain levels. Unfortunately, there is no water most of the time and to make it worst, it is open rarely. If you have kids or elderly people along, ensure they are comfortable and physically fit before visiting. The waits are crazy in the most challenging atmosphere.

Positive: Breathtaking views: The gondola ride offers stunning panoramic views of the mountains and surrounding valleys. Unique experience: Riding in a gondola is a unique and exhilarating experience, especially for those who have never done it before. Two phases: The gondola has two phases, each with its own set of attractions and activities. Good value for money: The ticket price is relatively affordable, especially considering the length and views of the ride. Negatives: Long queues: The queues for tickets and the gondola can be long, especially during peak season. Crowded: The gondola cars and the areas around the stations can get crowded, especially during peak season. Cold: The temperature at the top of the gondola can be much colder than at the bottom, so be sure to dress warmly. Limited facilities: The facilities at the top of the gondola are limited, so be sure to bring everything you need with you. Here are some additional things to keep in mind: The gondola operates from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Tickets for Phase 1 cost Rs. 700 for adults and Rs. 350 for children. Tickets for Phase 2 cost Rs. 1000 for adults and Rs. 500 for children. You can purchase a combo ticket for both phases for Rs. 1400 for adults and Rs. 700 for children. It is recommended to book your tickets online in advance to avoid queues. Dress warmly, especially if you are going to Phase 2. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as the sun can be strong at high altitudes. Bring water and snacks, as there are limited food and drink options at the top of the gondola.

The Gandola ride is recommended. Make sure to book your tickets in advance. Prior planning your trip, check out the weather condition. Snowfall would be recommended for the best utilisation of your trip. For any other rides and perks during the Gulmarg, make sure to bargain with those guys. And yes, this is very scheduled, so don’t run away from the time you have to be back on time, so keep watching the watch.

It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and situated on a small hillock in the heart of Gulmarg town. The Rani Temple was once a royal temple of Dogra dynasty of erstwhile princely state Jammu and Kashmir. The dynasty was ruled by Maharaja Hari Singh. The most interesting fact about this temple is that it can be seen from all nooks and corners of the town. The Rani Temple, also known as Maharani temple or Mohineshwar Shivalaya was built by Mohini Bai Sisodhia, the wife of Maharaja Hari Singh in 1915. Same has been unscripted in the wall of the temple as well. When King Hari Singh was spending his time in royal palace in Gulmarg, his queen used to visit this temple to worship Lord Shiva. Now, the temple remains open every day from 6 am to 9 pm and aarti is perfomed twice a day. The temple has been renovated by the India army.

This temple and surrounding views are beautiful. There is no shoe stand here which is required to save your snow boots. Since everyone's snow boots look similar, there is a high chance that your snow boots gets misplaced or someone else will wear and go. Be careful while walking on the roads in Gulmarg during winters. Because if you keep leg on the hardened snow, there is a high chance that you slip and fall. During this time the vehicle may pass on you as the vehicle moves faster on the roads here. This is because even they think if they drive slower, the vehicles get stuck on snow. Hence there is a life threat here during your walk on the roads.

It's an extreme beauty found deep ahead of phase 2 Gondola. It's a walk of around 1 hour 30 mins or so depending upon your stamina walking in deep ice. Usually you are stopped by the army officials and they don't allow you to go till the lake or you may go along with a local guide. Going alone is a difficulty because of the terrain and the remoteness of the area.

Amazing experience hiking this mountain though high altitude. But it's better to acclimatise your body for the altitude by spending little time at each phase. It's not recommended for cardiac patients and people with low immunity and stamina. If you have some stints with trekking then too you need to be careful while climbing. But the views along the way and the frozen lake is spell bounding!
