Specialty Museums
Museum of Somerset is a place where visitors can learn about the history of Somerset from prehistoric times to the present day. The museum uses real objects and interactive games to inspire visitors.
This is an excellent museum. Well arranged with brief descriptions that are informative for each exhibit. Some real gems including an amazing mosaic and a number of hoards of coins. A personal favourite was a bronze age toy axe. All Somerset based as well and free to enter - the suggested donation is £3. Booked in advance as suggested and they apologised for being busy but there were no ques and it didn't feel crowded

Super Museum tucked away in the middle of Taunton, follow road signs. Spread over several floors a real gem on the history of Somerset. The museum is run by volunteers who were extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable, Cafe and gift shop. No car park but parking available near Lidl a short walk away. Well worth a visit, free entry but please give a donation.

By chance we came upon the museum today. Very friendly and helpful staff. Lots of immaculately presented exhibits covering thousands of years. And it is free to get in. Thoroughly recommend a visit
Andy Cockeram — Google review
One of the best museums I’ve ever been. Very pretty and interactive. Staffs are very friendly. For such high quality displays and environment, I can’t believe it’s all free. The café is lovely, too. Very clean toilet and baby friendly.
??? — Google review
Interesting museum; I recommend that you go around it on the suggested order, which is primarily in chronological order. Good cafe. (For those interested in musical instruments, I was fascinated by the virginal, which I have never come across before. Pictures came out well, but don't really do justice to quite how curious it is!)
Hugh Roberts — Google review
One of my favourite thing about the museum is learning about the rich history of Somerset from the archeological objects in a great building which was once a castle. So cool!
Hlyan Htet Oo — Google review
The Museum of Somerset is an excellent museum with lots of galleries to explore. The current temporary exhibition is on Myths and Monsters and continues to end of October 2022, but check the dates. It has a nice Court Yard Cafe. The guides and volunteers were extremely helpful.
Christopher Watkins — Google review
A very nicely set up museum with a fantastic and clever display of Somerset history. The staff are very friendly and the cafe is very nice.

What a great day for children. Their exhibition of Axel Scheffler and his illustrations is great. We had 4 children with us. The Bingo around the Museum was so much fun. Making sticks and flags etc and the exhibition itself was fantastic. The only thing you may struggle with it is being busy but I expect if you go earlier or later in the day this wouldnt be an issue. The staff were very helpful. The cafe was busy but well organised. Great experience considering how cheap it was. Very much advised over the summer hols.
Angela Danielsu4g56 — Google review
This was an interesting museum to visit, with exhibitions at the start showing the great county of Somerset back as it was before humans! The artefacts are preserved ancient relics, history is provided about the creatures who inhabited the county and Roman area has more info on civilization with clothes to even try on. Cultural history is also depicted through the ornaments and items used back in the day for practices, models are glorious too! There is even a section showing transport from back then, staff were helpful as well.
K. Peake — Google review
Well laid out really interesting museum. Some key exhibits such as Cheddar Brooch and Roman mosaic. Friendly staff. Nice cafe. Well worth a visit
Eirene — Google review
I visited an exhibition at the museum a few months ago but this time I had the time to explore the whole site. The more permanent exhibitions covering the local area through history are excellent with many superb items, fascinating. There are also temporary exhibitions on the other side of the museum and these are varied and excellent. Lovely cafe with the museum and a great gift shop. My only complaint is that the lifts are much too small for many wheelchairs. I accompanied a relative in a medium size wheelchair and struggled every time, pulling the legs in and raising the back right up which was uncomfortable for my relative.

The Museum of Somerset is an incredible museum with a castle section showcasing fascinating historical exhibits, taking you on a journey through time. The military section is fascinating, offering insightful insights into Somerset's military past. The collection of fossils is impressive, giving visitors a glimpse into prehistoric life. The wide array of artifacts on display is a real pleasure for history lovers. Overall, the experience was phenomenal, offering an engaging and enriching visit. A five-star must-see for anyone interested in Somerset's rich heritage.
Maks Traveler — Google review
A wonderful and carefully-planned museum! Makes excellent use of the space available and has some fascinating artefacts, especially the most perfectly preserved Roman Mosaic I've ever seen! A fantastic, if fittingly depressing exhibition on the destruction of church artwork during the reformation was very moving indeed. In addition to this, the museum gives justly thorough attention to the history of local people; something that is shortly sorely lacking in many museums in the South West!
Jamie Stainer — Google review
Free to enter. Some nice displays especially the coin hoards. Excellent Roman mosaic floor. Morden and clean museum.

Garden
Nature & Parks
The gardens at Hestercombe House & Gardens are a stunning mix of Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian features. The garden is home to some beautiful buildings by notable landscape designers Gertrude Jekyll and Sir Edward Lutyens, as well as fascinating planting and views.
Review- Garden only: There are two parts to Hestercombe, a woodland walk to the North and the formal gardens attached to the house. The woodland walk follows the stream and the 4 lakes and is just over a mile round trip. There is plenty to see, a waterfall and numerous temples and monuments etc. I noticed on the way around that with the ducks and swans children seemed to really enjoy this walk. Attached to the house there are Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian gardens. From the South side you look down onto the main garden which has a great sense of scale. This garden is flanked by two water gardens and a beautiful pergola at the bottom. The Dutch garden is an absolute gem, super soft cool colours. All staff and gardeners are wonderfully polite and welcoming, the service at the Stables restaurant is impeccable and they serve the best lamb burger I have ever tasted. Put Hestercombe on your list of visits, these gardens really are lovely, easily five stars.
Alan Keevil — Google review
Unique history of gardening at this place. From some ancient medieval (?) To Edwardian. A sit down table service menu and a café on site. Nice food. ££. Nice walks with dogs welcome and dog bins available. Lovely paths along the stream which comes through the estate all the way down to the gardens. Not national trust. The house needs restoration but is open with great views over the garden and some artifacts from the house on show. Bat house with CCTV was empty but is there usually.
Martin Boyd — Google review
We had a tasty lunch, and there was a beautiful metal tree sculpture in the restaurant courtyard. We then walked around the grounds. The woodland walk was lovely, with lakes, buildings, and many birds. House was interesting with an art exhibition and an excellent second-hand book shop.
Christine Turner — Google review
Think this is are third visit here and as always not disappointed, early in the year this time for us, so plenty of new plants to see, with seemingly different views, bluebells out all over with the bluebell walk a real treat, had a nice snack at the cafe this time which was lovely and fresh. The house had a very interesting exhibition about the house and estate with items found in and around during renovations. Spent the best part of the day here, which gave us plenty of time to wonder around and find places we had missed before, the on going renovations and different plants. Friendly helpful staff.
Myles Breary — Google review
Fantastic garden. We had a wonderful visit, taking our Standard Poodle with us. Lots of parking, and even an electric charge point for our car. (Ask for the key fob from the welcome desk.) Good welcome and everything explained and we were given a map. Wonderful landscape garden with good paths, some steepish, but not hazardously so. Lots of architectural garden incidence - towers, mausoleum etc. Beautiful trees. More formal gardens. Beautifully maintained and friendly gardeners, happy to talk to visitors. Really inspiring ideas to take home to ordinary domestic gardens. And interesting plants for sale. Good restaurant and cafe, and dog welcome in the cafe. A first class visit.
Tiggy Greenwood — Google review
Spent over four hours walking through the gardens and paths. Map does tell you which paths are easy or steep. On the steeper routes you get some really good view points. Seats dotted around to take a break. The scent from the roses was lovely. We had been advised that a wedding was taking place in the Orangery so it would be off limits for a while. Not a lot in the house . Staff friendly in the cafe. Enjoyed our pasties. Would recommend it to anyone who likes gardens formal and informal.
Pat W — Google review
I attended a wedding there, it is a lovely venue with beautiful grounds. Catering was excellent. We had a very enjoyable day. The Victorian gardens are lovely.
HELEN THOMAS — Google review
Fantastic place to visit for a lovely walk around the beautiful gardens and through the trees and across waters, with opportunities for spectacular views for miles. Gift shops had a range of quality handmade items, whilst the art gallery had unique works on display in large historic building with original decor. I also found the watermill really fascinating, being able to see the old machinery on display. The cafeteria offered a very delicious afternoon tea for us, definitely worth the money. Phoned and booked in advance. All staff on site were very welcoming and friendly. Will probably return especially for the illuminate light show at night which I’ve heard good things about. Overall definitely recommended and offers good value for money for a good few hours visiting.
Luke — Google review
Superb little jem of a place ! Well tendered gardens offering relaxing, scenic walks. The house and art gallery are beautiful, and the used book shop is a treasure trove for those who like a bargain read. Food in the restaurant is first class. Tasty, and plentiful. Staff are friendly, polite, and helpful. Definitely worthy of more than one visit. !!
Roadrage Monkey — Google review
Lovely gardens originally designed by Gertrude Jekyll with lake and orangery, tea room, plant shop and house with gift store. Lots to see, very helpful volunteers, beautifully quiet when I visited on a Saturday during the bank holiday. Recommended.
Julie Bertjab — Google review
It was wet and windy. Still we had a lovely time. Afternoon tea was a bit cake heavy, scones we're really nice. Would have preferred a bit more savory but that's personal choice. We also went for a walk. Got the last 16 minutes in the bee education centre which was fun. Even for us adults. Event in the wet and the rain it was a lovely walk. Even fed the ducks up close and personal
Clare Hartland — Google review
Lovely return visit for the Christmas Market and stroll around the grounds. Well marked out paths around the lake and places to explore with great views. Did the evening light show last year, well worth a visit this year.
Donna Stevens — Google review
One of the best Christmas lights and sounds spectacular I have seen so far. Pre-booked tickets were affordable. A nice effortless walk around and the mild weather made it to be so special for us.
T Sultis — Google review
Beautiful gardens and scenery, definitely worth a visit for the Christmas lights too. Was a bit expensive for the food especially when the hotdogs rolls were hard and the turkey roll was bland I tiny thin bit of turkey and stuffing. Wasn't worth the price but the hot chocolate was so tasty and the sight seeing was so worth going.
m — Google review
Lovely formal gardens with different garden levels and different planting. Nice woodland walk around the estate up to the Georgian landscape garden lots of different buildings to see there are some steep slopes up there. There is a lovely cafe back by reception to have something to eat, the scones were delicious but the cream tea with 2 scones come with tea for 1 not 2 people
Rose Hughes — Google review
Visited the garden light show December 23 - excellent organisational skills, booked tickets, good value. ample parking, no queue , great show of lights and fountains. Will return after the winter deluge to visit house and gardens in daylight!
Anon Mouse — Google review
Haven't visited for some years and was rather disappointed with this visit. There is very little to see in the house and most rooms are mainly empty. The formal gardens are lovely, certainly worth a look, but are rather lacking in 'colour' and the Orangery was empty. The upper gardens/walks/ponds are nice for a stroll but are overgrown in places and seem to have been left to their own devices. The £16 entrance fee does seem rather excessive.
Chris Kinnersley — Google review
lovely gardens, both formal and woodland, with lots of meandering paths and a choice of sun and shade. Very dog friendly with plenty of water bowls. Excellent restaurant and food, equally good cafe. A really great full day out.
clare booth — Google review
We went for a lovely meal in the bistro, followed by a wander through the illuminated gardens. It was very pretty, but I think the lights were a little disappointing

Nature & Parks
Vivary Park is a large and well-maintained park in Tauntons tourist attractions list. It has a variety of activities for young and old, with plenty of walking and sitting places. The park is best visited in August when it hosts the Taunton Flower Show.
A park for everyone to enjoy with activities for the young and plenty of walking and sitting places for the less active. A park which is well maintained but not full of keep off the grass signs
Rob Kinnear — Google review
A very beautiful park which is hosting a famous flower exhibition every summer. Unfortunately for me I haven’t had a chance to see this exhibition as I arrived a week before the venue. Plenty of activities as a rope walk, tennis court or cricket field. Massive monument with names of Taunton’s men [heroes] from a Great war. Park start with a huge metal gate which get open everyday just before 8AM till dusk. Wonderful historical water fountain right in the middle is a must to see.
Milan Mal?? — Google review
Such a beautiful park hidden in between the busy city centre in Taunton. It was dog friendly and had a play area for children as well. Loads of green spaces and areas to walk around or benches to sit down and read a book. Had a pond in the middle as well. Lovely place to relax and reflect. This was just a 10 minute walk from the Taunton city centre. A must visit if you are in Taunton.
Sumalka Mendis — Google review
Beautifully kept Victorian style public park. Plenty of seats to watch the flow of pedestrians or to take a rest and enjoy the perfectly groomed flower beds. A nice place for a run around with younger children...feeding the ducks, using the swings, sandpit and cafe. Also the municipal golf course has a bar selling alcohol. Crazy golf good for a laugh too.
Maggiejo H — Google review
Pride 2022 at Vivary Park - such a fantastic experience! I didn't get enough photos but this particular set is of a couple getting married on stage by a celebrant! There really is something for everyone here - amazing Circus acts, dance troops, drag artists, and there was even a literary stage with LGBTQIA poetry! Fantastic event

Beautiful in all seasons, lots of activities in the park if you are bored. The squirrels and ducks are very friendly and there are lots of beautiful flowers and fountains.

Great park for all ages. Walking paths, play areas, a tennis court, and plenty of benches. There are toilets, but they are not incredibly clean. The small cafe and ice cream van are brilliant.

Best park to take little ones the cafe is a little gem all vegan and the ice cream place too on hot days. The miniature train rides are great fun too.

Great little park. Absolutely amazing scenery, great views & the animals are so friendly.
Joe Evans — Google review
I love visiting this park whenever I’m in Taunton and have the time. There’s loads of space to walk and plenty of benches if you need a rest. There’s even a bench that’s been placed on behalf of the Ricky Gervais Netflix show “After Life.” On this particular day, the flowers were in bloom and were absolutely gorgeous. There’s a large open field where you can walk, play or sun yourself. Even when the park is somewhat busy, it’s so large and spread out that you don’t notice it as much. Highly recommended if you’re anywhere near Taunton. It’s a fantastic escape from the busy high street. Oh, and yes, there are public toilets if needed.

The park is so much cleaner and better presented than it was when I was a teenager. Spent a lovely afternoon there in the sun today, and it was nice to see so many families having a lovely day out in the park!

Sports club
Sights & Landmarks
Somerset County Cricket Club has been the home of cricket games since 1882 and can accommodate over 6500 people, including a family stand. The venue boasts an excellent atmosphere and features friendly staff. However, some visitors have complained about the high cost of refreshments such as beer which cost £6 each. It is important to note that the club operates within a captive audience setting and may be experiencing financial difficulties presently.
Really enjoyed my evening here. Terrific atmosphere and friendly staff. The biggest whinge is £6 for a beer. I realise that you are a captive audience and also realise that we are experiencing tough times at the moment. I just wonder how some people can afford these prices. Still giving it 5 stars as it is a brilliant experience.
Derek Northcott — Google review
Biased as it is my local cricket club who I've supported for over 40 years. Very welcoming atmosphere and nearly always guaranteed an exciting encounter. Well worth a visit whether for County champs, one day or shorter format games (T20). Club shop also has something for everyone.
Scott Passmore — Google review
Cricket pitch smart will lovely views around. However the seating layout was hickle pickle and if you were sitting in the wrong place you'd be getting up and down for most of the match as people on the higher levels want to pass. I would suggest removing those seats or sell them with caution because this spoils people's enjoyment.
Verna Lyon — Google review
Great day .lots of outlets for food beers and coffee. Very hard to find good parking near the ground. Some old car parks have been closed .maybe park and ride the best option
Ian Wood — Google review
Renewed season ticket for the upcoming season. Top class sporting venue with excellent corporate meeting facilities in the centre of Taunton.
Simon Cutler — Google review
Seating is a bit cramped. Very difficult to get in and out and horrendous queues for drinks etc. The cricket pitch itself very good with good signage etc, so easy to follow. Capacity crowd on the day I went but most tickets sold in advance so no real excuse for the lack of facilities
Ken Sealey — Google review
Lively cricket ground in the heart of Taunton featuring Somerset county cricket club, great views all over with a wide selection of food and drink on offer, from beer and cider and fish and chips to burgers. Fun for all the family and a reasonable price.
Max Oliver — Google review
A nice cricket ground in the heart of Taunton. Staff are helpful and friendly. On match days, there's plenty of food and eatries within the ground. Toilets are situated in the main stands and some temporary ones when internationals are playing. There are drinks available however they could do with an extra coffee concession on sold out days as it takes a while to get a coffee.
Barbara Nicholls — Google review
1st time ive ever been to a cricket ground ,but it wont be the last i took bedminster cricket ladies to there final ,the somerset cup which they won .free parking for me and my bus because i took the team there .weather was nice 👌 the staff all round the ground were also very nice and helpful

Magnificent day / evening out with good friends.😀 😊 Great seats for a T20 Blast game in a lovely ground. 👌 😀 👍
Dave Sorrell — Google review
We had a great time visiting on Sunday to watch Somerset v Middlesex. We took the train down from Bristol which took around 45 minutes. The Taunton Railway station is only about a 10 minute walk from the ground so I'd definitely recommend getting the train in. Security and all staff in the ground were really friendly. Plenty if places to get food or drinks inside and there were lots of extra activities put on for the children to enjoy. We picked a lovely day for it with the sun beating down all day. There were plenty of seats available so I'm guessing others decided to go to the beach instead of watching the game. The players were great with fans signing anything that was put in front of them. The mascot (Dragon) called stumpy I think could have walked around the ground a bit so kids could get photos, he just stood in the same place on one side of the pitch. We had a great day and will for sure come back again. Fingers crossed we get the win next time.
James Marchant — Google review
What a lovely cricket ground this is. We went because our team was playing Somerset and was surprised at how nice everything was. Seats were comfy, lots of places for food and drink too.
Gillian Faulkner — Google review
Great little ground with views over the Quantocks. Very good facilities with various food outlets. Only minor criticism is that they have removed my favourite vegan pasty from the menu. Replacedxeith a vegan roll which I found fsurly tasteless. Have yet to try the Bombay pie ( I think that's what it's called)

Italian restaurant
Bar
Ciao Amore is an evening-only establishment that offers classic Italian pizza. While the interior may appear plain at first glance, it is because all the effort and style have been channeled into their delicious Italian cuisine. This family-run restaurant not only excels in serving traditional authentic Italian dishes but also provides a warm and attentive service. The staff are friendly, and the food is excellent, with generous portions for a reasonable price.
Wow what a perfect little restaurant in Taunton. From the time we entered as a very large group of 15 to the time we left the service from all the staff was impeccable. The food was outstanding and all arrived lovely and hot and all very reasonably priced. We all left with high praises and every one saying that they would definitely be back.
Jane Whelan — Google review
I had dinner here last night with one of my best friends. We eat out together a lot, and I honestly have to say I think this place had the best Italian food I have ever tasted. We had two starters and two mains, and every dish was exquisite. But even if the food hasn’t been perfection, which it was, the service alone would had deserved a 5 star review. Very kind and attentive servers. My friend knocked over a vase that had a rose in it, and before I had a chance to pick up my napkin, it he effortlessly been cleaned by a very kind server. And again he dropped his fork and without us even mentioning it, she’s replaced it. I felt like they genuinely wanted us to have to best time. So attentive and yet you didn’t feel like you were being over crowed by them. This is now my favourite restaurant in the area.

Cracking little Italian, when the Italians that live in Taunton are eating there you know your onto a winner! Welcoming and great service and top class food. The girlfriend said “The best pasta I’ve ever had” Also had a great sea bass special and a top class pizza! Utterly faultless in every way.
Martin Wall — Google review
Great food, generous portions. The service was excellent even though the restaurant was very busy. We were well looked after despite there being a large group and we were just a table for 2. The wine suggestion was very good and not what we would have chosen. We will definitely come back.

Lived in Taunton most of my adult life and never eaten here. After reading the reviews we decided to check it out last week and were back within a week. Have to say, both visits were fantastic. Stunning food, friendly fun service, and even though at first sight the building is a bit odd, when busy it generates a really vibrant enjoyable atmosphere. (And we saw some Italian people we know eating there, always a good sign..) Definitely coming back for a third visit soon. (Forgot to say, exceptional value too)

As a Italian I can say the food presented and made was as a authentic Italian way. Service was amazing, kind and very quick. Atmosphere same as in one Italian restaurant and very cozy. 100% would recommend and definitely when we will come around we will visit again. Keep up the great work. Well done!
Andrea Lora — Google review
Our first visit here and certainly won't be our last. Service was excellent, staff very friendly and polite. Lovely little restaurant with complementary olives and breadsticks on arrival. Very well priced food and full of amazing flavour. Every dish we were served was delicious and as a family we all tried each other's dishes to sample the wonderful flavours. We loved the fact that desserts weren't over priced too so we treated ourselves. Something we tend not to do as a family usually, but the price was very reasonable so we were happy to purchase. My only concern was that the cream on the tiramisu was extremely runny and not like any other tiramisu I've ever tried. Maybe it was supposed to be this way? It was still delicious though. Will definitely recommend and visit again.

We went Ciao on Wednesday evening (a great night to choose if you prefer places a little quieter) my first visit and the food and service was excellent.. portion size was good and all freshly cooked. Much better than the usual chain restaurants... Good value..

I had a long day at work and decided to go out to Ciao Amore with my friend because we had heard a lot about this place already. The ambiance was quite warm and the staff is so welcoming. We got the best place to sit and were offered the menu as soon as we got in. As it’s quite difficult to understand the Italian dishes, we were offered some guidance form the staff. I ordered Lemon chicken and my friend ordered the sea food pasta. Both of them were equally mouth watering and they looked so tempting with their presentation. The aroma and the taste deserves full marks. We ended our meal with cheesecake and Raspberry panna cota which again were so delicious. I would highly recommend this place to everyone.
Nikita Sharma — Google review
On entering this establishment we were a little concerned despite the recommendations as the decor is somewhat dated and reminiscent of a 70s cafe. However the food was surprisingly tasty with generous portions and the pizzas looked massive Pictures don't do it justice as look more bland than they tasted and biggest pleasure was the size of the bill and the friendly clientele. We didn't however risk trying the Soave😄

Authentic Italian!???, it’s a name only. Food was awful, over cooked and tasteless. I’d been looking forward to this for 2 weeks and ended up bitterly disappointed. Staff were ok and apologised for poor food. Would not recommend.

After a long desire to visit Guddi and Gikki, we finally found the opportunity and were not disappointed. This curry establishment is far from ordinary, with its incredible flavors and exceptionally fresh ingredients. The accompanying chutneys for the popadums were truly impressive. Although the prices are slightly high, the portion sizes are not your typical "English Indian takeaway" sizes; instead, you can expect authentic homemade Indian cuisine that is well worth it.
Second time we've been here and we're definitely coming back. Curry was fantastic, mixed platter starter was awesome. Service top notch!!
Michael Butler — Google review
Not good value. Ordered starters and a main. Dishes did come presented very well, and the service was friendly but intermittent. I would go again as it is one of the better options in Taunton for Indian food. I didn't feel like I was having takeaway quality food at a restaurant - as I have felt at other Indian Restaurants in Taunton. The dishes were not particularly spicy, so if you like spice - make sure to mention it!
Victoria Heart — Google review
Authentic Indian cuisine made by talented chef with perfect balance of spices. Loved the homemade pickles served, full of flavours. Pineapple pickle took my heart. Great concept of serving Thali enough quantity for two people. We had lamb for main course and Maachi Amritsari for starters, would highly recommend it. Heavenly desert menu, we relished Gulab jamun served with ice cream. Great ambience lovely Bollywood music playlist. Friendly and kind staff. Thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. Best Indian restaurant so far in Taunton.

An absolute gem of a restaurant. After meaning to visit for some time, we finally visited this evening for an early dinner, and it did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and welcoming, but in a calm and relaxing way - it was the perfect level of service. The food was incredible - you could tell it had been cooked fresh and each dish/side (we had the butter chicken, rice, dahl, bombay potatoes and a naan) carried its own unique flavour and spice combination. Really appreciated the small(er) menu - some restaurants can feel overwhelming with the amount of choice, but here you really felt as though each dish had been perfected and was loved by the chefs for it to feature on the menu. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

We had an absolutely wonderful meal at this restaurant..what a gem. We are from Bristol and no restaurant has ever come close to our home fav restaurants in the Midlands or even Southall or even Punjab for that matter. Great ambience. Great staff and absolutely delicious food. Thank you very much! 11/10 we will be back soon! Thank you again and take care Navdeep and Family.
Nav K — Google review
Absolutely sublime food served by a welcoming and friendly team. The homemade pickles with the poppadoms include a beetroot pickle and curried pineapple, both of which are beautiful. The lamb Rogan Josh served with rice, Bombay aloo and dhal work together perfectly with no element overpowering another. The naans are light and fresh and not swamped in oil as some can be.

After wanting to visit for years, we finally found the time to visit and were not disappointed. This isn't your average curry. The flavours were all amazing, everything was super fresh and the chutneys that came with the popadums were epic. It is a little pricey, and don't expect the normal "English Indian takeaway' portion sizes. This is proper homemade Indian, but it's worth it. Only niggle was the food coming out extremely quickly, and the staff gossiping behind the bar (obviously normal and totally fine) but maybe not when there is a table literally right in front.

Wonderful little restaurant. Slightly unusual for an Indian restaurant (in my experience) for having a very short menu that changes frequently. Dishes feel very authentic, not generic. We shared a mixed platter starter, followed by butter chicken and lamb rogan mains. Both main dishes included rice plus individual servings of daal and aloo. Service was also excellent, staff seem to really care about their customers. Casual, unpretentious decor makes for a relaxed experience. Definitely recommended.

Service was really good but the food was quite bland but very spicy to cover for a lack of other flavour. I don’t mind a bit of heat but we chose the least spicy options on a very limited menu. Chicken came with bones in, which can happen but one piece was a large sharp piece of bone that really should have been spotted. Portions are also very small for very high prices.

The best Indian meal we've had in UK for a very long time, if ever and by some margin. It's not cheap, but IMHO well worth the extra. Everything is homemade by a clearly talented Chef who presented the food well and had it served on hot plates promptly with a big smile. If I was to nitpick I'd suggest a stronger auto-door closer to keep the entrance door shut, the cold night air out and the warm and friendly atmosphere in. See you soon......:-)

Best curry restaurant I've found by a long way, not encountered anywhere else that makes such delicious curries as Guddi and Gikki and they're always consistently fantastic. Extremely filling portion sizes too and so full of flavour! The staff are great and super friendly too

Skewer House Taunton is a family-owned establishment with a charming rustic interior, specializing in barbecued Madeiran espetada skewers. The cuisine at this restaurant is exceptional, with the flaming chaurizo being incredibly delicious and visually stunning. The beef and lamb skewers are also noteworthy for their incredible taste. Their house special cocktail is delightful, although it may be too sweet for those who prefer less sugary drinks.
Excellent food, friendly service, traditional surroundings all at a great price...we have visited several times in the past & have never left disappointed.

The food was absolutely terrific! The flaming chaurizo was super delicious and also looked epic (the fire video), and both the beef and lamb skewers were also amazing! The house special cocktail is very yummy, but only if you are a fan of very sweet drinks. Also, I think it is important to mention that the portions are quite large. We struggled to finish the food, despite it being amazing, just because of the amount. Would really recommend this place - food is terrific and the atmosphere is very charming. A surprising find and one to definitely visit, if you're about.

We had our meal on the 30/3/24. The first thing we commented on when arriving was the atmosphere which was welcoming and exciting. We then ordered our drinks, followed by food all within good time and were served very quickly. All the staff were friendly and warm towards their customers and very attentive to any requests. The food was incredible, we loved all of it. Everything was full of flavour and at a reasonable price. The best part for me was the dessert. The cheese cake was to die for, honestly I've been craving another one ever since! We booked with The Skewer House as a celebration after not seeing my Dad for so long and it was a brilliant atmosphere for this occasion. The experience of having food on the skewers definitely gave us something to talk about as it was something new for all of us and we love it! Thank you for a wonderful experience!

I'd been told this place was worth visiting many times and finally booked it a couple of weeks ahead, we were not disappointed! Food was lovely and the waiting staff very friendly and accommodating. Meat came out on skewers that hung on the table and was really tasty. Will be booking again for sure.

Skewer House is my favourite eatery in Taunton. Anytime we have friends or family come to visit I try to bring them here. Note to readers: book as early as you can because they fill up quickly. 📖 So far we have tried lamb, chicken, prawn and steak kebabs. Have yet to try the flaming chorizo dish, which is equally exciting to see sat on adjacent tables ablaze. 🔥 The decor is authentic and atmospheric. Notably the melted down candles that greet the entrance and dried garlands set the tone of the evening - transported from damp British high street to the sub-tropical Mediterranean. 🌺 Food has always been cooked well and sauces are delicious. A large choice of side-dishes makes it hard to pick just a few. We tend to go for the one skewer with 2 sides deal. Brought my partner's mum here who identifies as a "fussy eater", and even she complimented her food. 💁 Lastly but certainly not least.... Poncha cocktails! Highly recommend, but beware... One may lead to another. 🤩🍹🥭

Visited for the first time with friends recently. Really lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. There is only one option for a vegetarian, but I am grateful for one! I ordered the halloumi skewer House special, so I could share sides with my son. It still came with a flaming chorizo sausage as a starter, which I thought was odd. Luckily, my friends were happy to eat that! The portions were humongous, and the food was tasty. I really enjoyed it. The cheesecakes looked incredible too. Looking forward to bring my husband here.

Skewer House in Taunton is a fiery paradise that brings the true flavours of Portugal straight to the table! The smoky chorizos, still aflame, are a captivating start that embodies the essence of Portuguese cuisine. The blend of spices and that perfect smoky kick is simply fantastic. The lamb skewers were a scrumptious delight, capturing the essence of Portugal right in the heart of Taunton. Juicy, expertly grilled, and bursting with authentic flavours, each bite was a promise of culinary excellence. And let's talk about the lemon meringue at Skewer House—a sweet treat that's pure magic! 🍋✨ The tangy zest of the lemon perfectly balanced with the fluffy meringue was a delightful finale to a fantastic meal. It's the kind of dessert that melts in your mouth and leaves a lasting impression. For anyone seeking an authentic taste journey through Portugal's culinary wonders, Skewer House is an absolute gem. From fiery chorizos to perfectly grilled skewers and the heavenly lemon meringue, every dish promises a delightful experience! 🇵🇹🍴

Everything about the skewer house is just brilliant! The food is absolutely gorgeous, the staff are attentive (but not in an annoying way!), the restaurant is beautiful. I’ve already booked to come back, I’d highly recommend to everyone.. oh and their cheesecakes are to die for!!

5 years later the place doesn't disappoint. Everything is the same, atmosphere, music and food. Only 4 stars for food because it cools down too quickly and the grilled courgettes were raw. However, you are up for a lovely meat dinner!

Was told about this place over and over by many of my colleagues at how lovely the food is. And wow were they right. First time was the Xmas party and then in the new year. Everything I've had so far had been amazing. Have had the 3 course on each occasion. I'm in the process of working my way through the menu. The staff are great and the place has a great ambience. Don't take my word for it , go try it you won't regret it. The food is LUSH 👌😁

A return visit (all be it some years ago was the last time). We sat at 8 pm mid week, and the restaurant had a few tables of people eating and a gentle buzz. To begin with, we had a young man serving us, and he was fab, helpful etc, but this changed (I guess staff got sent home as we were the only table in after half an hour). Starters were nice. You cook your own sausage or Halloumi! Main courses came and were again nice, but by this time, there was a definite chill in the air like a door was open? It's not often you need to pop a coat on to eat your dinner. At this point, it was if we were forgotten for half an hour or so. We had desserts included in our dinner, but these were not offered, and when I came to pay, I asked and was told absolutely we had to pay for them 🤔. The food was alright and nice, not as good as before, service needs some work on, keep the place warm, and you will have happy guests. It's not cheap to eat out in general. The Skewer house is on the higher side. Need some more value added in, I feel.

The Bare Grills - Taunton barbecue restaurant has received rave reviews for its amazing food and friendly staff. Customers have praised the delicious taste of the food and the large portions. The rustic decor and great vibes create a welcoming atmosphere. Despite some minor issues with missing items on orders, overall, customers highly recommend this restaurant for a date night or casual dining experience.
Absolutely amazing! Was gutted when we ordered another time that they didn't have certain things same as when we visited them. But food tasted amazing and staff was friendly even with it being busy, very helpful. All food tasted great, no faults. Definitely recommend.

Had an excellent meal after the cricket on Sunday evening. We hadn't prebooked, but they were able to fit us in. Tasty food and pleasant service. Our only complaint is that the beer was served in cider glasses. Surely that's naive error.

Lush food, large portions and quick service. We had the Gobstopper Burger, dirty pork loaded fries, mac and cheese and pulled pork. Amazing!!

It was the food that originally made me reserve this restaurant for a date night. I thoroughly enjoyed the food even though I took some of it home in take away boxes. Great food. A rustic decor. Great vibes. Would definitely return

We shared a bbq tower for 2, for 2 adults and 2 children. Plenty of food to go around with extras to take home. The food came out hot and fresh. The burgers, ribs, pulled pork, chips, onion rings (real ones!) were excellent. I thought the brisket could be better, a bit dry for my liking and the wings were okay. Great value for money. The young gentleman serving us was excellent and very attentive. Will definitely visit again, thank you.

I got suckerd in by the reviews and a recommendation. Look I am from Taunton but don’t live here any more. But from the minute I walked in I knew what was coming. The kitchen was staffed with basically children so the steak was awful. Upgrade for 5 pounds for “dirty chips” and you get 1 dollop of cheese. Honestly don’t bother if you appreciate food
Jon B — Google review
I had the pulled pork and upgraded my chips to curly fries. Also shared a sode of halloumi fries and burnt ends with my fiance. Such lovely food. Was not disappointed with anything. Yummy tasting food, good portion sizes and reasonable pricing

Honestly, it was a horrible experience. The burgers were super tiny compared to the photos and no fries, then we ordered a combo with meat and it was very very dry, then very poorly attended, we wanted to order a round of drinks and we waited like 40 minutes, the waiters are not attentive, it seems like they work with their eyes closed. Perhaps the guy was a bit nicer, but the woman was putting too much pressure. Without a doubt, we're never coming back in our lives.

It was great to see this place back up and running after the recent fire. The place was full when we arrived as a group of 5. We had a booth which provided ample space. The ribs here are fabulous. Just the right amount of sauce and very tender too that the meat just falls off the bone. Haven't tried anything else on the menu as we tend to go for the ribs but another member of the party had the chargrilled chicken and he said it was really nice but wished he had had the ribs.

I had two wonderful visits to Lotus Flower Thai Restaurant in Taunton. The service provided by the waiter and the owner was exceptional. The food is incredibly fresh, and I particularly enjoyed the fish cakes and spring rolls. The main courses were delicious, especially the Duck Red Curry. My only suggestion would be to offer a wider selection of starters, although there are still plenty of options available. I plan on returning soon because I love this place, its owners, and its atmosphere.
I love this place, and its owners and ambience. I went there with a big group this time having also gone as just 2 people many times. They were terrific, and of course cook everything absolutely fresh. It's such great value, most of my guests hadn't been there before and couldn't believe how great it was. I thoroughly recommend.

Such a nice place with a truly warm and welcoming staff. Super good food prepared by a woman who is obviously concerned with the quality of the food and the enjoyment of her guests. This isn’t in our neck of the woods, but we’d visit again. The owner was amazingly helpful and gave us a full briefing of the town centre parking on the phone. Great service across the board!! Recommend highly.

The Lotus Flower Thai Restaurant is really nice! We've been there a bunch of times, and it's always great. The food is delicious, like real Thai food. The couple who run it are super nice and always make sure you're having a good time. They're really friendly and like to talk, it's like hanging out with Thai grandparents! And the prices are very reasonable, so you can enjoy yummy food without breaking the bank.

We've just had a fabulous meal at this Thai restaurant...was lovely and tasty. The customer service was brilliant as we rung to book a table but couldn't get through. The owner rang us back when she didn't have to. She was a total delight :) And had a lengthy chat after our meal with a free drink :) Ansum job!

LOVELY! Fully recommended. Came in on a quiet Thursday evening and were greeted with warm and friendly restaurant and waiter who stuck perfectly between attentive and withdrawn. Food was made to order and brought each of us a smile and filled our belly’s. Had a lovely chat with one of the chefs after dinner - she felt like an aunty we’d come to visit. If I’m ever in Taunton I will be returning. WE LOVE YOU xxx

Lovely lovely lovely. Stopped for a super quick bite - only had 20 mins before a train. The wonderful couple who own and run it were so sweet, got me fed quickly with just a delicious and fresh pad Thai. Tried to overpay for their troubles considering how busy they were, and she insisted on sending me on my way with snacks for my journey. Delightful experience, will return if I’m ever in Taunton!

To simply describe the experience: “some Thai-like food at grand-mother’s”. The host and chef were welcoming, and we didn’t mind the interior as we hoped the food would be great. However, the food left us disappointed as it was way below the average. Customers are too shy to give genuine feedback as the hosts are nice. But they do need a good re-assessment of the quality of their food. Would not go back, would not get a takeaway.

Had two fabulous visits to Lotus Flower while visiting Taunton. Exceptional customer service from the waiter and the lovely owner.
