Namur

Namur is the capital city of the Wallonia region of Belgium. At the confluence of the Meuse and Sambre rivers is the Citadel, a medieval fortress with 7km of underground passages, gardens, views and a golden statue of a giant turtle. In town, the Felicien Rops Museum focuses on the works of this 19th-century, Namur-born erotic artist. The baroque St. Loup Church has marble columns and a richly carved ceiling.

Musée provincial Félicien Rops is a Belgian art museum that showcases the works of the fin-de-siècle artist. The collection includes paintings, letters, and sketches portraying not only the "ladies of ill repute" but also ordinary people. Audio guides and tours are available to enhance visitors' experiences. While renovations take place at the museum in Elsene, part of the impressionist collection is on display alongside Rops's works.
Fabulous artist, insane to think he dared to paint and draw what he did in the 19th century. The museum itself is really nice, clean, well-lit, and the staff at reception is calm and friendly. Great souvenirs and high-quality prints in the museum shops.

A really good museum for art lovers. Great permanent exhibition of works by Felicien Rops. Nicely exhibited with lighting that goes off when there’s no one in the room. The temporary exhibit of work called ‘Hommage a Pan’ was amazing. Beautiful large scale pen and ink drawings. Such detail. Staff very friendly. The appropriate member of staff jumped in to speak English to us.

Nice museum, kind employees. some more written explanations would have been nice, now only audio guide on own phone via app is available, audio guides are not my thing

Very interesting museum with famous arts. It's possible to visit it for free with Pass musées of Belgium.

Felicien Rops is a well known artist for picturing the ladies of the 'houses of ill repute' and a criticaster during his years as a student. But his pendrawings of ordinary people and paintings really shows his talent as well. Due to renovations of the museum of Elsene, part of the impressionist collection can be viewed as well...and even if the permanent collection is nice, this temporary exhibition makes it top.
Bart Eekhaut — Google review
Excellent museum of the fin de siècle artist Félicien Rops. I had never heard of him before. Talented and for me surprisingly scandalous for the era.
Jonathan Murphy — Google review
A pearl in Namur, even in Belgium and the world! Never miss it! You will see the artworks by the talented artist Rops, who is Namur born. His home is not far away from the museum. The lady at the reception is a fair and tender lady. We had a happy chat about Rops. ‘French English’ is always melodious.
James — Google review
The outside of this museum is striking and worth a pass by. The inside houses many sketches and studies for larger works. I found the giant sketch for "British Empire panels" to be very interesting in it's detail and scale.

A very fine museum dedicated to the life and output of this extraordinary artist. - Special exhibition with of of a Flemish artist echoing the work of Rops. Most explanations are in French only.

The Citadel of Namur, a fortress that dates back to the 10th century, dominates the town with its grey walls and tunnels. Though rebuilt over time, it remains an impressive sight on a hilltop, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. The Chateau des Comtes section and cafe Le Panorama provide particularly stunning vistas. Visitors can stroll along rampart footpaths for access to open areas at any time.
A must see place in Namur, visit of underground tunnels absolutely recommended. Parking possibility in front of Tera Nova Centre. Hospitable staff at ticket office. 👍👍👍

You can either walk, drive or take the cable car like us, up to the citadel. Probably worth it if you want to see Namur during the ride. Once up at the citadel, it opens up to a plateau where it houses an exhibition hall (quite unique architecture), an open space car park, a cafe and a chateau. We made our way to the cafe where the spectacular view of Namur and the Meuse awaited us. We chilled a bit while savouring the sights. Walked up to the chateau, now converted into a cafe and restaurant. There’s a rose and herb garden. If you want to explore further, take a walk down from the cafe to the citadel grounds. All in, worth the €6.50/adult ticket for return trip in the cable car.

Just a stunning example of medieval architecture and the views are spectacular. Quick drive from Brussels. What a amazing place. The people in this simple town are so very friendly, but if you do not speak French, a translator app or phrase book will be a great help. We love visiting the little towns and villages when we travel from Brussels. Road connectivity is very good, so it is very easy to see new places, large and small. I completely recommend a visit.
nure SK — Google review
very nice and relatively quiet place, we parked on the hill at the large parking lot in front of the theater auditorium, we walked towards the main building, the man at the reception knew English, he explained to us every possibility we can do on the place, there is a museum of history of the fortress inside but we did not go there (because of kids), the tunnels are only guided so it is not possible to go there alone, the train was stand-by by one hour so we chose the possibility of a free walking around the area, pros: free toilet, small caffee inside, free movement, not so many people, very kind receptionist, cons: the cable car runs only until 17:00
Marek Sopko — Google review
Gigantic citadelle, the biggest in Europe I think. Lies in the center of Namur and stretches up the whole hill. Parking is available at the Confluence underground garage (tickets are cheaper when using their app) between both rivers at the foot of the citadelle. You can drive up by car or bus, take the cable car to the top for € 5 - 7 or trek up on foot (lots of stairs on the foot paths: not suitable for mobility impaired people). If you walk, take a lot of fluid with you! Roadcyclists also use the steep ascent for training. There's also a TukTuk, which you have to book in a Vance according to the ads ! There are sculptures scattered along the way (see photo of the golden tortoise and it's rider) and the vistas of Namur's old town and rivers Sambre and Maas are spectacular! There are some restaurants at the top. Beyond it even higher up lies luxury hotel + restaurant Chateau Namur. And the marriage license should also be up there.

To get the best city view from different angle, don't miss out Citadel top. Take the Cable car one way only on the top then walk down the road then you will amazed by mesmerizing views. ✌🏽✨😏

Amazing views but not great to access. Would advise cable car both ways if anyone is unsteady on their feet. Cafe isn't too great. Not many choices and self service. OK for kids. There is alittle mini train that runs but we missed it but I'm sure children would enjoy this.

A journey through time and history awaited me at the Citadel of Namur. Nestled at the meeting point of the Sambre and Meuse rivers, this majestic fortress is a testament to the strategic importance of Namur and the evolution of military architecture over the centuries. The Citadel has witnessed countless stories and transformations with its origins back to the Roman era. The view from the top, at a staggering 190 m, is unparalleled - overlooking the flowing Meuse and the iconic Parliament of Wallonia. But it's not just the views that captivate; the history is rich and deep. It began in 937. Walking through the Citadel, you are reminded of its ever-evolving role – from a strategic military post to its repurposing in the 1930s as a protected command post space. Today, it is a reminder of the past and a symbol of Wallonia's heritage – rightfully classified as a Wallonia Major Heritage site. For anyone looking for a panoramic view of Namur, the Citadel is a must-visit. Experience a blend of nature's beauty and human ingenuity in one place.

Just a stunning example of medieval architecture and the views are spectacular. The people in this little town are so very friendly, but if you do not speak French, bring a translator app or phrase book with you. We decided to take a look at this beautiful little place following a road trip from Germany to the UK. It's about halfway between the Calais Ferry Port and Kaiserslautern, so why not? We love visiting the little towns and villages when we travel for business. There are a thousand roads to and from everywhere, so it is very easy to see new places, large and small. I completely recommend a visit. Cin-Cin! 🍸

A great experience learning about the history of Namur from the middle ages until the last world wars as it played a significant role in defending the city. The tour of the tunnel systems is quite unique and informative and is a welcome addition to the tourism of the Citadel.

You can hike from the entry way near the roundabout Rue Notre dame, and make your way up to the Tourist Information Centre. There’s also a museum in there that tells about the story of the city. Although the view is very pretty. The way from and to the Tourist Centre is not pedestrian friendly.

Discover the delightful world of strawberries at the Strawberry Museum and Country Promotion of Wepion in Namur. Housed in a charming villa along the River Meuse, this unique museum offers an immersive journey into the history, cultivation, and cultural significance of strawberries. Visitors can explore exhibits on the properties of the fruit and its regional cultivation while also enjoying a variety of strawberry-based food and handicraft products available for purchase.
Very great place, I strongly recommend. People very nice and welcoming. You can access the fruits garden with the entrance fee. Parking in frontispiece easy. Small but interactive and adapted to both kids and adults.

Fabulous place to learn about the history of Strawberries and strawberry culture in Wépion. Visited twice and will probably go back!
Colin Bannell — Google review
The lady is very friendly, but I would not call this place a museum. They have blown up cartoon pictures on the wall with a bit of information, which can perfectly be found online. The garden, is nothing extraordinary, I would even call it ugly. I was expecting to learn things about the production of strawberries and the world of strawberries in general. The little information I got thete was not worth 5 euros. I was very disappointed.
SC Bs — Google review
Very friendly lady at the counter who likes to give info. The garden where you can freely pick fruit is sweet. Only downside is that the museum is rather short with a lot of text and not so much interaction.
Jetse De Proft — Google review
Nice and compact museum that tells you about the history of the strawberry cultivation in the area. I don't think you could do any better on this topic. The lady at the reception was very friendly and made the effort of talking to us in English. She even offered the kids a strawberry-flavoured drink. The garden in front is also worth a stroll: we picked some very tasty strawberries there!
Giovanni Palombo — Google review
Nice visit. The museum is not too big, and quickly visited. Without explanations by a guide, it's a bit difficult to make sense of all the exhibits. You can conclude the visit by tasting some strawberry-related products. Nearby, there is the Isle of Dave, Belgium's largest island, and you can take a walk along the Meuse river. Better pick a fine day for your visit.
Hans De Keulenaer — Google review
Absolutely loved this place. The lady was fantastice, very helpful and full of information. Love the passion
Robert Healey — Google review
Interesing museum with a garden next door with many different fruit trees and bushes where you can see and try different types of berries and other fruits! In the visit you can also try some of their strawberry based products. And the Wepion area has many beautiful turreted houses and nice promenades by the river.
Joao N — Google review
The museum has a nice display about the history of strawberry growing in the region. Across the road is a demonstration garden of various fruit and examples of how to grow them. Nicely done in a compact area.

The Église catholique Saint-Loup is a Catholic church that was constructed during the 17th century and boasts of baroque architecture. It is known for its purple marble columns, black stone arches, intricately carved confessionals and elaborate ceiling tracery sculptured in white tufa, which make it an imposing sight. The church has been described as both sinister and gallant, with its unique design making it a remarkable feat of artistry.
Beautiful renovated church, we liked the massive marble columns, the wooden carved confessions and very interesting ceiling, really nice place with churchian music played, it pays to see...

If you are into old churches and history, you have to add this church in your IT when you are visiting Namur. The pillars inside the church were composed of different colors of marbles. The ceiling is quite more than the usual church ceiling.

If you're hot for Baroque (or even just slightly partial) and are in Namur, then this is the place for you! Brasserie François in Namur is a top-notch establishment that exudes a sophisticated French ambiance. With its elegant atmosphere and traditional cuisine, it guarantees an authentic brasserie experience. Impeccably attired waitstaff serve classic dishes, while the grand ceilings, ornate decorations, and exquisite chandeliers create an enchanting setting that transports diners from their surroundings. This venue is not only perfect for indulging in delicious meals but also for enjoying a delightful evening drink.
We enjoy this place so much that every time we go to Namur, we have something to eat there. Brasserie François is a beautiful place that is frequented by young and old alike. They have a nice garden in the back, but we like the interior decoration so much that we prefer to stay indoors. The food is good, the staff are very professional and friendly. It's like you're catapulted back in time. The only thing that's missing, are white gloves on the staffs hands. Of course that would be overdoing it ;-)

Delicious food in a classy restaurant. I couldn't fault it. Not cheap, but, oh so good. The service was excellent and the choice of wines and dishes to die for. I loved my oysters followed by saddle of hare (last night in Belgium, so I pushed the boat out). So glad I went there. Would love to eat there again! Extra points for having good wines available in half bottles and nice tables available for lone eaters like myself.

2023.08//We were pleasantly surprised by the taste of the dishes: interesting recipe of mussels with crab sauce, and an absolutely delicious crab ravioli dish, for which I would come back here. as a dessert we chose “Ile flottante” and Strawberry with ice-cream, which were balanced in taste and aromas. It’s a nice and cosy atmosphere inside, a little bit to warm for my taste, but we had no other option considering that the terrace was closed and it was raining anyway.

In a friendly setting, Benedicte, Raphael, and their team welcome you with a diverse menu that offers a range of flavors and textures. From traditional gastronomy to innovative creations, this Michelin-starred restaurant is sure to surprise you! The lush green surroundings of Lessentiel add an extra touch of charm that beautifully complements the chef's creativity. Currently, the option to order take away is available, and customers have praised the freshness of the fish and meat platters for four people.
What a place! In the middle of a village, a high quality cuisine has been now for years sharing their culinary art. Friendly and young staff will make you feel comfortable as soon as you step in. The food has some very good quality ingredients, flavours were perfect with the season (the tomato dish was refreshing). Outstanding lamb!!! And the cheese platter is just impressive! For the wines, don’t take the wine list. It’s long, boring, and French 😉 ask the owner Bénédicte to bring you some hidden gems from her cellar (at a very reasonable price). Thank you all for making this night perfect!

L'air du temps, a prestigious two Michelin-starred establishment in Liernu, Belgium, stands out among other highly acclaimed restaurants in the country. Led by the Korean-born and Belgium-raised chef Sang-Hoon Degeimbre, this restaurant offers a unique introduction to Korean cuisine. What sets it apart is not only its culinary inspiration but also its rustic setting within a farmhouse. Here, Chef Degeimbre marries contemporary cooking techniques with a farm-to-table ethos.
We had amazing 2 Michelin star restaurant experience, starting from the place itself, continuing with food and presentation and finishing with the service. Everything was on the highest level. Presentation of food is amazing, all the process is super organized, we had a chance to see the kitchen and taste something special over there. Phenomenal experience on every level, and most especially food. It’s worth a detour Andre Michelin stars, and I imagine that staying over night would make it even more special. The dishes, many of which come in threes, are a sublime mix of balanced flavours, textures and colours. The beauty of presentation is also worth mentioning. The service was lovely, although the inconvenience of not alerting of lamb dislike in advance was evidently shown by one of the waitresses, despite the fact that you pay for that inconvenience anyway. The wine list is extensive, the pairing of wine or non-alcoholic drinks also available. The desert really blew me away, was extra special. The setting of the restaurant is in beautiful buildings set in a farm what feels like a middle of nowhere. Go if you can, you won’t regret it!

An incredible restaurant. We wanted to go for years, and we took the opportunity of a trip to Belgium to do so. The dining room is beautiful and the wide view on the garden through the large windows is wonderful. The dishes are (obviously) excellent. located at a quite deserted area , roads around are full of holes and bumps haha . basically nice establishment , we didnt stay in the hotel / b&b (i dont know which is was?) , but from the looks of it , it should be very organised and clean. the restaurant is nicely decorated , classy , the service is excellent , the whole experience is quite uniek , different flavored water / wine to combine with different types of dishes . Flavor is very objective , whatever i like or hate does noy necessarily means you will feel the same , i like some of the dishes , some other were just normal . the price is on the high side , understandable seeing that its 2 star Michelin. I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful the service is , very attentive , very right on thr spot , its like "how did you know i needed this? have you been watching me non stop?" This is the emperor service i guess :-)

Really an amazing discovery. If you like excelle t food with a great view and super friendly staff then this is your place. Michelin rates with 1*, but I would imagine the chef will get his 2nd during the next years. Lots of really 'wow' experiences during our 4 course meal. We'll come back.
Alexander Ziegler — Google review
Good restaurant: service and food are good, as is venue; but it lacks the "waw" effect you're expecting when there's a Michelin star; another down is the price, too expensive at 60 EUR for two starters, a main and a desert (almost getting a two-star lunch, which then is a completely different experience). All in all good, but wouldn't go back to pay that.
J. R. — Google review
Underwhelming. Maybe this review would have been more generous if this place hadn't received a Michelin star. It took them 3 hours(!) to serve a three course meal - we had to wait almost an hour between the starter and the main. The 'wine pairing' only paired wine with the first two dishes, not with dessert, which was not mentioned to us or highlighted anywhere on the menu. The wine selection was uninteresting. The service was meh. One of the dessert options was 5 scoops of ice cream, which was just awkward for a place of this standard. Comparing this place to other places with Michelin stars is embarrassing. The food was cooked beautifully, but sadly this restaurant falls flat on every other aspect. If you are looking for a Michelin experience - go somewhere else.

This is the one I would personally recommend to everyone :) Amazing food, views, lovely terrace, great personnel. The only thing is that "menu with wine" does not imply a drink for your dessert, but that still wouldn't let me put -1. A great place indeed!

Disappointed to have booked ahead for a group of seven people and be taken to a table set for 6! Worst was, having requested vegetarian options for two of us when booked, the amuses bouche were all the same and presented to all but only one was vegetarian. Made the vegetarians feel awkward. Then the main course which followed was a lot of pureed vegetables, although artfully presented. We weren't babies and none of it was specially prepared for vegetarians. It was just bits of the vegetables used on the meat dishes! Nothing filling or with bite. Dessert was claimed to be glace with cherries. However, we all expected the glace to at least be frozen. Not so! We all left disappointed- meat eaters included. Will not recommend.

The dining experience at Le Grill des Tanneurs was delightful. The appetizer consisted of a salad with goat cheese and nuts, which was enjoyed by both the diner and their companion. For the main course, they indulged in a perfectly prepared lamb shank with greens and potatoes, while their companion opted for an Irish steak. The dishes were impeccably cooked with ideal seasoning. However, the portion sizes were quite generous, leaving no room for dessert.
We ordered a steak and gyoza with room service in the hotel. The steak was delicious, everything was well seasoned. Gyoza itself wasn’t really my favourite dish but the quality of the food is really great!

Excellent service. Super friendly staff. Loved the starter and desert but lamb could be a tad more seasoned or marinated.

I ordered an Irish entrecôte. It was very good but not exceptional. The béarnaise sauce was home made and very good. As a desert I ordered profiteroles, those were good as well, fresh whipped cream but not hot home made chocolate. Presentation was overall good. Wait times were very short (at opening hour).

The food was very good, the service was friendly and we didn't have to wait long for the food even though all the tables were occupied. I heartily recommend 😊

We had a wonderful dinner. I took goat cheese with salad and nuts as an appetizer, my boyfriend took the same appetizer. Our main meal consisted of lamb shank with greens and potatoes for me and my boyfriend took an Irish steak. Both dishes were perfectly prepared, cuisson and seasoning were perfect. Unfortunately we could not eat dessert, the portions were very large for us. In short a very good value for money in a beautiful building. Definitely worth a visit!

over noisy restaurant room! (no noise insulation on ceiling) which is a pity because the food and the service are pretty good. The tables spacing is ok. Enjoy !

Having the main course took more than 1.5 hour!!!Uunbelievable slow service! We ordered at 7 pm, received first course 40 minutes later and at 9 pm we could not still eat main course. This place should be avoided!!!
