The National Trust is a charity that owns and manages many of England's heritage sites, including the William Wordsworth House and Garden. The house is where Wordsworth was born in 1770, and it has been carefully restored to look exactly as it did when he lived there. It is open to the public every year from March to October, and it is a popular tourist attraction.
Very interesting visit, had a guided tour (free) Very interactive place with a beautiful garden. Lots to do and see.
David Grace — Google review
Wordsworth House and Garden gives you an insight into the life of William's childhood home. William Wordsworth was one of 5 children, born in the house back in 1770. When you arrive in Cockermouth, you're best bet for parking will be either one street parking (Mon-Sat 1 hour only) or Lidl car park, 90 minutes for free. The house and gardens are available for viewing at this National Trust, allowing you to explore 10 notable locations throughout the house. There are interactive experiences dotted around the interior, allowing kids and adults to dress up and play with wooden toys, consistent with those played with by William and his siblings back in the day. The 1st floor of the house also offers an exhibition room, usually hosting subjects linked to nature, landscape or language. In the walled garden to the back of the house, you'll find lots of wonderfully coloured plants to catch your gaze, along with a view across the river. The house and garden offers much more than meets the eye from the roadside and is a fantastic insight into William Wordsworth's life. AT.

A small National Trust property in the centre of Cockermouth. We parked in the pay and display carpark on the opposite side of the river (£2.80 for 2 hours), and crossed the bridge to get to Wordsworth House which was about a 2-3 minute walk from the carpark. Although the property is small, it is full of interesting things and history of William Wordsworth's childhood. Some rooms have a 'no touch' policy, but in others you are encouraged to explore the items on display - the free map provided, and the helpful staff and volunteers, make it clear which rooms have which policy. During our visit there were several rooms set up with dressing clothes for children and adults, a room with a quill pen and ink to try writing with, and some wool and beads to decorate cardboard Easter eggs. In the garden there were skittles, hoopla, and lots of painted pebbles to make your own (very daft) poems! The garden was well stocked with beautiful and unusual plants, and had beautiful views over the river. There was an exhibition in the house with memories from people who'd lived in the house in more recent times before it came to the National Trust. I'd definitely visit again!
Phil Townes — Google review
Entry is £9 for an adult. National Heritage passes get free entry. There is a queue for entry and the staff are elderly volunteers who are very friendly but take an absolute age to process payments and get people on their way. If five people are in the queue, you can expect a ten minute wait. It’s frustrating. The real positive about this place is that both the garden and house are beautifully maintained. My problem really, is that it’s a pretty abject tourist attraction. It’s of questionable relevance to Wordsworth’s career as it was simply the house of his childhood. There are few references to it in his work and that becomes clear as you walk around. In effect you’re just walking around a late 18th century home but the curators have struggled to draw any significance to Wordsworth the poet. Instead, it could almost be any upper middle class family if the time. It’s not particularly interesting and the displays are minimal. In fact you have to wait until the very end of the tour to read anything about the man and his career. It’s one of the weirder tourist sites I’ve seen and a huge disappointment to anyone wanting to better acquaint themselves with the history of the Lakes’ most famous son. I’d definitely give this one a pass. You’re not missing much. There is a souvenir shop and toilet at the beginning/end of the tour.

Very interesting and informative visit. Enthusiastic and friendly, informative staff, you can learn a great deal.
Phil Cooper — Google review
exhibits are really well laid out in this very explorable house. the garden is peaceful and there is a small lawned section ideal for a picnic lunch. Allow yourself a good 1.5hrs, parking available other side of the river and provides close access by footbridge. When crowded, timed ticketing in use.
Paul Denton — Google review
Staff were brilliant with me needing disabled access which does only go to the first floor but there is an audio guide for the second floor of the house if needed. With me being able to walk shirt distances I did not use the audio guide. The tour guide had a lot of information about the house and the Wordsworth's life while living there. The garden is not really suitable for wheelchairs at the moment but the house do have a wheelchair with larger tires that does work in the garden if pulled backwards.
Catherine Rennison — Google review
For once the National Trust have got it right. So evocative and authentic, taking you back to the time of Wordsworth. Staff so friendly and knowledgeable. Well worth a visit

What an amazing bit of history we had the guided tour and free entry as English heritage the knowledge of the guild was incredibly lasted 40min and then we had all the time we needed to walk around the house and gardens
Lea Somerfield — Google review
Situated right in the middle of Cockermouth town centre and close to the river. Shame there's no cafe on site but there are plenty of eateries and cafes close by. Knowledgeable and friendly staff made our visit very enjoyable.
Pauline — Google review
A really nice building and garden with friendly staff. An activity for the kids to find things in thr house and garden. Some rooms where you're encouraged to pick things up rather than everything behind a rope. Not totally sure on value for money as we are members but was a nice experience.
Dean Freeman — Google review
This was our first visit to the childhood home of William Wordsworth and it was excellent. Our guide was friendly, informative and kept us interested for the duration of our tour, which lasted about 30 minutes. Thereafter, we were able to wander through the house at our own pace and even got to play dress up with some costumes (there were even costumes for adults!) so everyone could get involved. It wasn't busy, but as we visited during term time on a weekday, I have no idea how busy it does get at the weekends or during school holidays. There are toilets on-site and a small gift shop too, however there is no parking, but the nearest car park is only 300 yards away, we paid £4.70 for 6 hours (12/09/23) which isn't too bad considering how much some places charge these days! There is no cafe either but Cockermouth has several cafes, pubs and restaurants which aren't too far so you'd be spoilt for choice if you fancied something to eat. All in all, a lovely way to spend an afternoon - learning about one of the greatest poets our country has ever had.
Nelly C — Google review
A nice historic house with a lovely garden. There's a used book store rather than a gift shop and I found some interesting books. We were here for about 45 minutes shortly before closing and it was very quiet.
Kate Harris — Google review
Great bit of history neatly placed in the heart of Cockermouth. Access friendly and audio guides available should you need one. The walled garden was rustic yet beautiful, and the old apple trees laden with fruit ready to harvest in the coming months.
Darryn James — Google review
We made a point of heading north from where we were staying (near Bootle) up to Cockermouth to visit Wordsworth's house and it was well worth it! The house is brilliant, furnished with authentic items from the time, although mostly not originally belonging to the family. We learned so much from our visit! The Wordsworth family tale is somewhat tragic at times, but fascinating at the same time. We had the guide all to ourselves, so it was like a private tour. The guide was animated and enthusiastic, bringing the story of William Wordsworth and his family to life. We even tried on some of the period costumes in one of the bedrooms! The garden at the back is filled with flowers, herbs, trees and vegetables, backing onto the river Derwent. You'll find quotes from Wordsworth (and others) dotted around, which is a nice touch. Entrance is via the main street, to one side of the gates. There's a small gift shop and the toilets are just outside the back doors, just before you enter the gardens. Overall, the house really gives an insight into life at the time, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. As well as the Wordsworth family, there's also information about more recent residents, which is equally fascinating (particularly the recordings of one elderly lady recounting her experiences as a child). Cockermouth itself seems quite a pretty little town from what we saw, with plenty of eating places, shops and galleries. We parked behind Wordsworth's house and crossed the footbridge, as this is the closest and easiest place.
Jon Clynch — Google review
Fantastic realisation of a past time setting with rooms, fittings, furniture and reproduction foods. The childrens room with toys and clothing was great. The kitchen just showed all manner of cooking tools ovens sinks and gave an impression of the shear amount of work the staff would have had to get through. The gardens are a must if it raining put your hood up and have a look, go to the back there is a bit round the corner as well. Be a daffodil!
Darian Crowther — Google review
Friendly staff abound, Wordsworth's life and works profound, Knowledge all around. Garden's serene view, Cooking apples, flowers too, River in full view. Inkpen, pot to try, Harpsichord notes fill the sky, No-touch, else rooms lie. History, nature blend, Literature, a close friend, A must-visit end.
Ben Topham — Google review
It looks modest from outside, but what a treasures are inside. Good for exploring with kids as well as quite stroll in stunnning garden. Where you can listen to birds, volunteers, audio of poetry.

The Jennings Brewery Shop and Tour is an exceptional experience that should not be missed. The staff are dedicated to their craft and community, offering a wealth of knowledge about their beer products. The tour is informative, entertaining, and led by a friendly guide who has a great sense of humor. At the end of the tour, visitors can enjoy a variety of delicious beers along with chutneys, crackers, and port. This brewery tour stands out among others for its high quality beers and excellent customer service.
Great tour, we've been in a few other tours before and this one is the best we liked!! The guide is funny and knowledge . All the Ales are amazing, highly recommended to everyone !!!

Fabulous brewery tour, passionate members of staff who care about their beer products and local community. Tour included free drinks and chutneys/mustard with crackers at the end. Lovely Jennings port too. Well worth it

Great brewery tour, Phil is a fantastic, friendly, funny and knowledgeable tour guide. Great choice of beers at the end, followed by chutneys, crackers and port. What's not to like? 😆
Simon Lakin — Google review
A tour of the historic Jennings Brewery which was established nearly 200 years ago. The tour took you round the brewery with the guide explaining the various stages of the process and explains some of the different ingredients which went into the different beers. At the end of the tour there was an opportunity to taste some if the beers. Interesting tour if you want to understand who beer is brewed.
Derek — Google review
The brewery tour is ideal for wet and windy Cumbrian afternoons. I found the tour both educational and entertaining, thanks to Linda our bubbly and knowledgeable guide. The shop has a decent range of merchandise and bottled beer, not a bad shout for Christmas gifts. It is now, sadly, the only place that sells bottled Snecklifter.
Martin Benn — Google review
Alan and Linda are fantastic hosts. Great yet again. We've had a Marstons pub for 11 years and always love bringing our customers to the Jennings brewery, it's great publicity for the Jennings beers.xx

Jennings brewery is the taste of cumbria and is 1 of 3 favorite brewers in England ... especially when it come to the classic dark Sneck lifter and the Cumberland ale! Every visit to lakeland for me involves a good long walk, some nice pub grub and a pint of Jennings beer.. the perfect holiday!

Specialty Museums
Banks J B & Son is a vintage hardware store that offers an extensive selection of brand-new and used tools, including spare parts for garden equipment. Unlike major retail stores, Banks J B & Son has everything one could need without having to buy online or pay exorbitant shipping fees. The shop also boasts a fascinating museum showcasing antique tools, artworks, and maps that make it well worth visiting if you're in the locality.
I could not believe this shop. J.Banks ironmongers has a museum with many unique items in an unfussy setting. The staff are fantastic and couldn't be friendly. I only went in for a wingnut.

World famous Banks', what would Cockermouth be without it? Has a great little, really useful museum. This is the place you go for the 'rough' garden tools you can't get elsewhere, for the beehive accessories . . . the place you take your children for a real world experience. Great folk, great service, should be preserved for posterity.
Jim Mitchell — Google review
A fascinating museum inside a wonderful working hardware shop. Such friendly staff, thank you.
Jerry Weeks — Google review
This is an old hardware store selling a very large range of new and secondhand tools. Out the back of the shop the owners run a heritage museum showing off a very large collection of antique tools, maps and painting. Which is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
Brandon Haley (brandwhy) — Google review
An incredible small ironmongery with a great time capsule museum in the back. Definitely worth a visit for that tool you never knew you needed (I came out with 3)
Darryn James — Google review
I had been on the search for some bits to repair some garden tools. None of the big stores had any. It was possible to get them on line but only if I wanted to pay even more in postage and to help some billionaire get to space. Then I walked into Banks and not only was it a wonderful shop, like stepping back in time to an age of real personal service, they also had EVERYTHING I needed with spares. A wonderful shop in itself but with a fascinating museum attached to it as well. So glad I discovered it.
Ian Bett — Google review
What an amazing place. If they don't sell it, you don't need it. Fabulous museum at the back and upstairs, free to enter too. Lovely lady and gentleman were working there.
Carol Davies — Google review
Great service. Realised on my way from Barnsley to Cockermouth that I needed a set of Stilsons (wrench). Gave them a ring and the kind lady advised they had some. Got there and found they had a set that were the right size.. not new but restored and working perfectly. Only £12.50 so a bargain too. Job completed thanks to this great purchase. Didn't have much time to look around the store but the shop is amazing!

Memorial park
Nature & Parks
The Memorial Gardens is a stunning riverside location with well-kept gardens and ample parking. It features a small but popular playground for young children. The walk across the bridge into Cockermouth adds to the charm of this place. However, there is a downside as the waste bins were overflowing, resulting in people leaving rubbish on the ground. Despite this issue, it offers plenty of seating options facing the river, although could benefit from more picnic benches.
Absolutely beautiful place for a walk. The area was so clean and well maintained. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
Katy Sloan — Google review
Beautiful gardens right on the river. Good parking availability. There is a small playground which is popular with little children. Lovely walk over the bridge into Cockermouth. Only down side was the waste bins needed emptying, they were full so people were leaving rubbish on the floor.

We have stayed in the Trout Hotel on the high street looked across at this but never ventured over to it. Had a lovely picnic with the family. Good playground for the kids.

At BLOCKS Steakhouse, customers can enjoy top-notch produce sourced from local suppliers. Their selection includes delectable steak from Cumbrian farms, as well as a variety of gins, craft beers, ice creams, and cheeses from nearby sources. Recent visitors have been impressed by the quality of the food and attentive service. The 8oz fillet is particularly recommended, cooked to perfection according to individual preferences.
Fantastic steak house set in market place Cockermouth. Well worth a visit.
Bri Payton — Google review
A lovely evening at Blocks Steakhouse, a table of 8 was served and fed very well. We had a wide range of steak and burgers which was delicious. No starters as you get 2 sides with any main. I would say that the 2 sides are such a large portion, that no one out of our group of 8 finished their plate. All steaks were £30 Burgers £17 Wine £20-£30 Pints £5 Desserts £8+ and milkshakes A great menu, but my recommend was that it was too much food and not enough room to order dessert. Some on our table decided to leave a side to allow room for a dessert. Maybe make portions smaller? But highly recommend and great service. Thank you

A great evening meal! Fabulous choice of drinks, gorgeous complimentary bread which was exceptionally full of flavour and left feeling full! The mixed platter for start was delicious and a great mix of the available starters to share! Overall meal was delicious, flavoursome & filling, all along with great service from the staff. Reasonably priced food - £26 fillet steak with 2 sides and a sauce. For the locality and the quality we were happy to pay that bit more

We were lucky to get a table in the restaurant on a fully booked evening 🤭 Thank you for sorting that out for us 🙏😊 This was absolutely worth it! The meal was flavoursome and very well presented. Also, enjoyed the complimentary bread with butter. On top of everything - excellent service. Definitely recommend 👌

Went to BLOCKS for the first time last night and was impressed. I had the 8oz fillet, ordered M/R, and it was cooked to perfection. Chips, slaw and Stilton sauce were all excellent too. Gluten free options were also good, especially the chocolate brownie. Complimentary bread before our mains was a pleasant surprise. Staff were friendly and attentive. The only disappointment was that the milkshakes weren't available - only told this after my wife ordered one. Would have been better if we had been informed on being seated. Overall, great experience and we will be visiting again.

Amazing food, amazing service, great staff and a reasonable price, what more could you ask for. My borther said "that's the best steak I've ever eaten" and he is a nightmare to please lol. Can't wait to come back again! 10 out of 10!

Working away and thought I'd try this steak house out and I wasn't disappointed. The food was absolutely fantastic, the steak was one of the best I've ever had. Food was good. Streak slightly too pink for medium but still nice. Wine was reasonable and price is about par for Cockermouth. Atmosphere up stairs is a little less appealing than in the main restaurant at the front so try and book early.

We hadn't booked on a Friday night and our party of 4 was accomadated. Steak perfectly cooked with a beautiful grilled smoky taste. .
Chris Punnett — Google review
Absolutely fantastic. The service was insanely good for a place of this level, the waitresses were impeccable in their manner and approach and deserve to be recognised for their efforts. The home made bread and butter was comparable to anything I've had in a Michelin starred establishment... As a fat Yorkshire lad, I've eaten a lot of burgers in my time but Block's is up there with the best... Sensational steak burger with juicy pulled brisket and bacon. Fab chips and a pot of gravy to dip. If I didn't live 2 hours away I'd come every week. Awesome to see an independent smashing it like this, long may you survive and prosper!

We were staying in Cockermouth for New Year coming from Leeds. We booked Block and didn’t know what to expect as there’s a lot of good steak houses in Leeds. BLOCK BLEW THE STEAK HOUSES IN LEEDS OUT OF THE WATER! Cooked to perfection, extremely reasonably priced, very attentive staff even during the New Year’s Eve rush. I would 100% recommend. Thank you so much for a lovely meal ✨
Hannah Manson — Google review
We booked last minute and came for a rare child free meal! Was well worth it!! We had a bread board to start, stilton and bacon with a garlic and thyme butter. We wernt sure what to expect, but it was very nice. Then we had a shared platter for a starter. The beef bon bons were a highlight for me and the cumberland sausage in honey glaze was my partners. There was a Wagyu steak special on tonight, so we decided to go for that. It was sooo good, I cant praise it enough. Massive compliments to the chef. We ordered a pudding each as well, my partner said the new york cheesecame was light and a perfect finish to his meal and my brownie was everything you want from a brownie crisp on the outside and gooey in the middle!! Bit much for me after our feast though! All in all it was an oustanding meal, made better by the great service by all staff we encountered especially our waiter Jack, who was on the ball and at hand. Speedy service all round, will definately be back!!

It was a quiet Monday evening at The Spice Club Cockermouth and the staff were very welcoming upon our arrival. The restaurant looked very clean and nicely laid out. Drinks were quick to arrive, probably because we were the only 2 in there at opening time 🤭 A brilliant menu with a great choice of starters and mains. The Garlic Mushrooms were delicious and perfect. The Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala were perfect, just the right portion size and couldn’t fault it. Happy with the price and would definitely recommend The Spice Club.

What a fantastic experience, my partner and I went for dinner there last night and I must say that everything about the evening was next level - the guy looking after us was warm and welcoming and very personable - the food was amazing and so very well presented from start to finish absolutely spot on - the food was that nice I think I physically hurt myself because even when I was done I kept picking up the fork to have another mouthful highly recommend. I've only given five stars as there aren't any more to give - thank you for an enjoyable evening spice club

The food was fantastic, one of the best Indian meals we have had. Everything tasted fresh and you could taste all the spices. We will definitely be back if we are working in the area. Well I said I would return and I have. Oct 2023. Spice Club has not disappointed at all. The popadoms are light and fresh and the pickle tray was also good. I had a fish dish which was fantastic. Plenty of fish and you could taste all the herbs, and it was slightly warm on the seasoning side, yummy. It is nice to return somewhere and it be as good as the last time. No one trip ponies here. Thank you Abdul, for making me feel so welcome. If you find my review useful, just follow me as I have plenty more.

Chicken Biryani and tandoori chicken was dry and not very tasty unfortunately, however balti dishes have been good. Loweswater gold very smooth. Small but reasonable vegetable samosas but pickle tray for poppadoms quite bland. Can get very busy, bookings may be needed.

We just walked in without booking abut at 5:30pm, but we got a table for 4. Thanks for that for the staff. For me staffs were ok, but not so friendly. Of course they came and asked us about food ....etc. so was not any problem. Food looked very nice, it was an ok service. But was strange a bit that it seemed they did first the take away customers and just after the 'sit in' customers? 🤔We waited for our food at least 40mins and we were the first customers there - literally. We saw that people arrived for take away they got it but nothing for us, just drink. Coke arrived later after we asked it again they brought the drinks, but at first they forgot to tell us that: 'sorry the coke will come just later as we have to fill the mashine' or something. So my friend got her coke maybe after 20mins. Luckily she was not so thirsty. 😁 Toilette was very clean, and the restaurant everywhere was very clean. Lots of tables inside, no outside sitting, and i don't think so that is dog friendly. You can really see on the photos that food looked super, no complaining at all. I am not an 'indian food fan', so i can not tell you how amazing was it, for me nothing super (not so tasty, was not taste buds, flavor bomb or nothing waaauuu if you understand me) meat was chunky, thick in my food but maybe it is normal and some part a bit chewy. For my friends, it was enough good. But i liked how our food looked. So sure that first i was fine because of the sight of the food. So thank you for that. 😁 I did not drink any alcohol now, they have variety of wines, i think price is same as everywhere else. Food price exactly the same, i think mine was £14, and i had my food with lamb. We saw that a lot of people arrived for take away and came to eat in restaurant too, so i am quite sure it is a very popular place in Cockermouth. Compare to Keswick Lakeland Spice (i think the owner is same) i would say i liked food better in Keswick - the taste was somehow different. But this is just my unexperienced opinion and i ate there just once. I say it worth a try if you like indian food.

Great Indian based in the town of cockermouth. Generous portions. Lovely walk in and out of the town that took 15 minutes from the premier inn walking on the main road in.

Came in here for an Indian meal, place was really busy, one table seemed a little loud and drunk, so I asked to move and they got me a table in a quieter part of the restaurant. Staff were polite, service was quick, prices are reasonable for this area and there was parking right outside. The food was okay, not bad for a place that dosnt have an local asian population, but the aloo chaat came hot with a sweet flavour, when chaat is supposed to be a cold dish with a combination of sweet, sour and spiced flavours...... not a bad effort and I would visit again though.....
Manjit Dhillon — Google review
Firstly, I generally do not give negative feedback but the service & attitude of the staff at restaurant made me to write this review about very bad experience. Staff think that they are superior and asked us to order everything one go. We went for the 1st time and wasn't sure about taste. When we want to order more staff was arguing and said that it will take 1hr to get the dish. For tourists, I will suggest to go to any other near Indian restaurant as we want to relax after day of travel rather than following the rules dictated by the person at the counter. Let me just say, This isn’t Indian food. This is food cooked with Asian spices. Some dishes was ok, some was very disappointing. Important: The manager I felt didn’t take care of us. One waiter was helpful. Won’t be going back. (I have given ONE star as its mandatory to select else I would vote -negative stars so that no other tourists to get inconvenience)

Pub
Restaurant
The Castle Bar in Cockermouth is a well-known local establishment that offers a variety of British and global cuisine in a beautifully restored 16th-century building. With three floors and a lovely outdoor area, including a terraced beer garden, this pub has received numerous accolades over the years.
Amazing atmosphere, amazing food, lovely place x definitely worth a visit

Probably the best of the pubs we visited in Cockermouth. Nice looking place inside and out. Good service at the bar and a relaxed atmosphere. Music was playing and some sport was on the box but could easily be avoided if not interested in it. Would recommend popping in for a drink.

We were staying around the corner for a short break and this was our nearest pub after a long drive. It became the only pub we visited in Cockermouth after our first visit. The pub is lovely and far bigger than it looks when you first go in, set over several levels. The staff are welcoming and efficient and the beer well kept. I would highly recommend this pub for a drink or two.

Delicious food!! Make sure you're hungry when you come here, the portions are very filling! We wanted to try the desserts but had absolutely no room after our amazing homemade steak and ale pies. The filling of the pies was just divine, plenty of meat and delicious sauciness. Definitely recommend a meal here if you're in Cockermouth! Great selection of beers too, including local lake district options.

Clearly a very popular place with locals - in a town centre with plenty of choice - the Castle was handy for our hotel and offered a splendid range of drinks (especially ales) at reasonable prices. My abiding memory is sadly that of watching our Lionesses fall short on a Sunday morning, however!

Friendly staff, friendly people, great beer garden, dog friendly, great selection of real ales on hand pull, reasonably priced drinks .... what's not to like about the place 👍

We had a delicious meal here in the upstairs dining room. The atmosphere was warm and friendly with great service and a tasty menu. Prices were reasonable and menu varied. Booking at weekend is recommended.

Very friendly pub (and very dog friendly), superb selection of real ales in perfect condition, also a good selection of keg beers too. One of the top places on my list of great pubs in West Cumbria. A proper ale house.

A welcoming spot to enjoy a fine local brew and warm one’s cockles 🔥 🍻

Regularly pop in with family for a couple of drinks. Best pub in Cockermouth by far. Great choice of drinks, soft drinks and coffees, teas etc and always spotless. Good for watching sport and attracts a good crowd of regulars. Recommend

Whent for sunday dinner and we were not disappointed food is out of this world. Probably one of the best sunday dinners I've had the place is amazing and full of history 5* all the way. If there was a down side is staff could do with being more attentive and we had to ask to get a drink order same with food and dessert.

Met up with a friend to have a couple of pints before he went to a leaving do that was going to be in the bar once the local secondary school finished for the Christmas break. Got in the bar just after three and the place was quiet. As four o clock arrived the bar really filled up with people and there was a real buzz. The service was quick and the staff were polite and friendly. The Wainwright was a good pint.

Didn't eat, but great selection of quality cask ales. Fabulous bar. Very hospitable. Good for sport. Wish it was in Chester as it would be my local!

Turkish restaurant
Mediterranean restaurant
Aspava Restaurant offers a variety of Turkish hot and cold sharing plates, kebabs, and vegetarian options. The eatery has a casual atmosphere with an outdoor patio. They informed customers about possible food wait times but the wait was definitely worth it. With dishes served tapas style, even just four dishes between two people were plentiful. Each dish was fantastic, and patrons enjoyed engaging in pleasant conversation with the bartender afterwards.
Fantastic! We had a shared meal for 2. Everything was great but the meat was seasoned to perfection. Sweets were delicious also. Friendly service

Our pick of the Cockermouth restaurants. Came for dinner and returned for the excellent breakfasts. For dinner we had the mixed grill and it was all cooked very well with nice chilli sauce. The bread is freshly baked and delicious. The desserts on display when you walk in are also very tempting. We tried most of them and I loved the cinnamon and apple tart. The decor is tidy here, very clean and new. The service is friendly from the owner and staff. They clearly have a hard working kitchen too. The breakfasts should be tried too. The cold platter is more of a continental breakfast option. We also had the hot breakfasts which at £14 are amazing value and more akin to a Turkish brunch. Great place this and it won’t let you down.

Some of best food we ever had. Went twice while in Cockermouth. The cold meze with flatbread are perfect starters. Also had the courgette fritters and feta filo parcels. Amazing. Then onto the mains, if you aren't sure what to get then get the mixed kebab. The chicken and lamb are beautifully spiced and cooked, so tender. Would go back to Cockermouth just for Aspava.

Up here on business, recommended by a colleague. Wow! Just wow. Superb food cooked to perfection, quick service, I had starter, mains desert and coffee. The starter was amazing (sausage). The mixed kebab for mains was delicious. I opted for the rice pudding dish for desert (forgot the name) but it was absolutely lovely and a Turkish coffee to finish. I went at 5:45pm, quiet when I arrived but got busier, so you know it is good. Would highly recommend!

A brilliant Turkish restaurant in the heart of the high street. Again, like with other restaurants you need to book in advance. A very spacious restaurant. You walk past the kitchen and you can see your food being prepared! Amazing. Very upmarket and I’d recommend dressing accordingly. Fresh, quality ingredients used throughout and all served piping hot. The wait staff and other staff are very friendly and helpful. Prices similar to London but this is quality therefore worth it. Wouldn’t hesitate to return!

Food amazing, decor very Turkish, staff lovely. Our wedding anniversary meal.

Had a decent meal here. The food is good but it is a bit on the pricey side, around £6-7 for a single mezze and £20 for a main. We ordered three mezze, a main and a dessert all to share. The mezze were good, just again a bit expensive for the size of it. Similarly for the dessert, we ordered baklava and we got two pieces for £6.50. I would come back but it is not somewhere you can keep going to because of the cost.

Service were great but seating to close together kept getting knocked when your eating or staff squeeze past food were ok but one dish were like bread and tomato soup on top as were very disappointing in the food we chose. Personally not for me but I would have to choose more from the menu to try different flavours

Been three times, once for Turkish breakfast and twice in evening- love the food , waiter explains choices/ ingredients and gives recommendations. Really flavoursome food, very clean and can see chefs doing the cooking when sitting downstairs - definitely worth a visit. Also have patisserie range which looks delicious but haven't yet tried

What a great little restaurant to find in Cockermouth! We went for a birthday dinner for two and weren't disappointed. The staff were efficient, helpful and friendly. The wine was good and the food absolutely delicious. Prices were very reasonable. I will certainly come here again. Faultless.

Lovely restaurant in the Main Street in Cockermouth. The owner and his wife as well as their service are friend and helpful. The food was very good! Having just been in Turkey 6 months ago, I must say the food in this restaurant was better than in Turkey. We ordered a few starters and mains and everything was absolutely delicious! My personal favorites were: sigara boregi (filo pastry rolls filled with feta), Ali nazik kebab (lamb kebabs on a bed of aubergine and pepper yogurt). For dessert, the Antem Katmer is one of the best desserts I’ve tried! Will definitely be back!

"The Honest Lawyer" offers an outstanding dining experience with excellent quality food and warm, friendly service. The fish cakes and chips are packed with flavor, while the double cheeseburger is made with top-quality meat. The homecut chips are also very tasty. Visitors praise the reasonable prices considering the high quality and generous portions. The restaurant provides a lovely seating area overlooking the river, accommodating changes in meal times due to travel issues.
Very nice meal. Was able to change time of meal due to travel problems. Food good quality. Lovely seating over the river.

Outstanding experience! Excellent quality food, warm and friendly service from the staff. Already looking forward to our next visit! My friend had the fish cakes & chips, packed with fish and really tasty, and he's from South Shields! I had the double cheeseburger. Quite simply, THEE best quality meat in the burgers I've ever had. Homecut chips were very tasty as well. The prices were very reasonable considering the quality and portions. Cannot recommend this establishment any higher. Visit, you must.

Good food and service. Would have liked a little more steak in the pasta. Seafood pasta was packed.

We've had a few meals here now, its definitely been better. The starter and mains were fantastic, dessert was so so, but the service let it down. Pur tsble was never checked so we were never asked if we wanted more drinks despite empty glasses, we waited a good 30 minutes for dessert to arrive, to the point we thought they'd forgotten about us. Like I say the food was great, portion size could be considered small for the price but its tastey so to me its about right. Tweak the service and its where it needs to be.

The good: Great location! Fantastic manager (Matthew?). And really quaint outside area to wait, have drinks or even eat, with the sound of the babbling stream. The bad: Our orders were forgotten for 35 minutes. When we asked about them we were told twice that they had never been put into the till, and that we had to reorder and wait until other tables who had come in in the interim had been served. After reordering, the order was magically found but we were told it hadn’t been put into the kitchen because the girl thought we didn’t want the food yet (why would I order food if I didn’t want it!?), with both female servers passive aggressively telling us that it was our fault that they hadn’t passed our order from the till to the kitchen. The ugly: Even once our food finally arrived, the starter was ice cold and sent back- this was graciously removed from our bill. The dessert, the “warm brownie with chocolate ice cream”, arrived with vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate- not a huge deal, but why weren’t we told? We asked for spoons as the only silverware we had were our dirty forks we had used for the fish main course, which.... never arrived. Meanwhile, said vanilla ice cream I didn’t even want melted into a pool, and we had to ask two other staff members before finally getting our spoons, and finding out why the chocolate ice cream never arrived. A royal screw up! Unfortunate, as we really wanted to like the place... but we will definitely not be back, and couldn’t in good faith recommend it to anyone else either.

Booked here while staying in area as only local restaurant with availability. Starters were ok, I ordered the pate thought and it was very bland. I ate all the chutney just to get some sort of flavour. I had lamb for my mains and the gravy was thin and heavily flavoured. My husband had the Highland burger for his mains. No haggis included as described. His chips were very overdone and he couldn't eat them. No wait staff checked on our meal..had to ask twice for sauces etc. Told senior staff who collected our plates about the chips and she said "oh yeah they do look burnt". Bill came and no apology or discount applied. We've had much better service and food for the price elsewhere. It could be better with a few tweaks.

Two of dined here on a girls night as an end of holiday treat. The staff were so friendly and helpful, it made a special end to our relaxing holiday. All 3 courses were delicious. The sticky toffee pudding was "to die for" and the Sancere white wine was very nice 👌 😀. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
