Italian restaurant
Casa A Roma is a charming townhouse restaurant with an informal dining area adorned with stripped wooden floors. Its menu offers classic Italian cuisine, along with additional options like kebabs and specialty burgers. Customers can also conveniently order online or through phone for take-away delivery. The restaurant has received positive feedback from patrons who were impressed by the tasty and hearty food offerings. The Romano base dish stood out as a highly recommended choice, leaving diners satisfied and too full for desserts.
"HIGHLY RECOMMENDED" (This is coming from a person who is not a great lover of Italian cuisine) But for me, I found everything was just perfect & warranted the 5 stars. The staff were super friendly and helpful (a rarity in this day & age) The menu was vast & exciting, with something to offer every pallet. All served in a clean, well decorated, pleasant atmosphere. We will most definitely be returning.

Average. We have eaten at many Italian restaurants both here & overseas, this is the first that didn't have complimentary breads or olives at the table. My wife also had to pay for a small dip to accompany her meal. My chicken & bacon pasta dish was ok, nice creamy sauce although there was more bacon rind than meat present. Portion size could've been bigger, especially noticeable given the lack of bread. The service however was great, warm & pleasant with our food arriving within ten minutes from ordering (only three other tables in at the time though). Given the bill was £40 for two mains, a glass of wine & a beer I don't feel it represented good value & left feeling a little underwhelmed & disappointed.

Return to Roma (By All Roads) So this is an account of my second experience with the house nay villa of Casa Roma four months later (first review below) and things didn't pan out quite as expected. After a tasty fare of chicken pasta and special garlic pizza (from the special garlic pizza menu where in fact they are all special) I decided this time to get my chops into a king prawn pizza with mozzarella and some Italian herby roasters. The pizza first and it was, I'm afraid to say, soggy not crispy, disappointingly lacking in the crunch department; the prawns and mozzarella were nice and tasty though. Next, the Italian roasters and a very sharp downward turn in events. I was expecting some baby whole spuds languishing in herby sauce with garlic butter basting their bows but this was not to be. In fact it was three (and a very small baby) old (as in not new potatoes) medium-sized contenders more like bakers in a none too memorable light butter sauce. It was a heavy heart that turned over the cardboard lid of that foil takeaway container this time and the pizza did little to revive the spirits. The one thing which was super tasty was two - indeed - pots of delicious home-made mayo as a side order. This picked up the disaster from the floor and dusted it down; I also had it on a baker with some king prawns the next day which eased a still leaden heart, saved - but only just Casa Romas - bearing in mind your earlier score. ___________________________________________________________________ So this is Casa A Roma, Roman house of tasty hearty Italian fare and more, kebabs, speciality burgers etc on the menu. I had a take-away delivery (impressively prompt) as Roma burned and I certainly got the wolf's share of gladiatorial feasting. It was generous and tasty. I had chicken fussili, gentle on the taste buds, with lardons and hints of caramalised shallots in buttery white wine sauce and a 9" special garlic pizza (they're all special on the special garlic pizza menu) and this was nice and light as opposed to French stick garlic bread etc; a good herby flavour which complemented the pasta but didn't overtake it. So, the pasta flavour-wise and foil container-wise was fab, almost steaming with the lid off, morsels of chicken - when found - were cooked deliciously to a slightly teeth-sticking chewy consistency, interspersed with lardon slivers, herbs and great sauce. But, and it is a but, the pasta was quite dominant in the dish, there was not very much else - fine if you're hungry or you've got a marathon pending in the morning - but it was a little solid and well-packed when more sauce, less pasta and more chicken would have made a pleasanter experience for garlic pizza dunking etc. Also perhaps a more exciting pasta base - fussili, the twists, is fine everyday but perhaps tagliatelle or a finer shape of pasta, not overloaded, would have given a lift. End results? Fab taste, quick delivery, a full chops' worth of offering, tasty alternative garlic pizza but shy on the chicken and heavy-handed on the pasta; easily resolved - let your pollo and lardons fly. Otherwise nice going and veni vidi vici, Casas!

Really impressed. Went after a long days hike. We had two of the fish platters to start which was really nice. For main we all had the Romano base which we thought was worth it and it was! We were stuffed from this and couldn’t manage a dessert but would highly recommend. Staff very attentive as well.

Warm and cozy Italian in the heart of Whitehaven. Book in advance as it always seems to be busy, plenty of classic dishes well cooked and setved with a smile. Loved the pizza and the tiramisu was the best I've had, all fairly priced. Highly recommended.

Fantastic food, great service found a table for our family as a walk in on valentine's day. Also had a great selection of gluten free options for me which was awesome.

Overall..dreadful. Margarita cocktail was rimmed with table salt, yuk. Mainly the staff were ok. Starters were alright but main course was shocking. Cheap ingredients, menu read nicer than what was actually delivered to the table I.e I ordered Rigatoni and was given cheap Penne pasta. "Large meatballs" as read on menu came as tiny meatballs and the meat was unidentifiable. Both mains were clearly blasted in the microwave...just poor.

Me and my kids love it here. Such a good place to take my kids. The staff are wonderful, the service is brilliant and the food it lovely. Highly recommended

Loved that their were quite a few vegan options. Food tasty too. I would’ve liked more vegan options though. I feel their options were too limited. The garlic flat bread with pesto was superb. Will go back for that if I didn’t live far away.

Restaurant
The Georgian House Hotel is housed in a historic 18th-century building and boasts spacious and relaxed rooms. The establishment offers contemporary dining options, blending modernity with the charm of its landmark setting. While primarily a restaurant, some guests may find themselves needing to stay overnight due to unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, the staff's remarkable response is worth noting, as they are incredibly helpful and exceptionally competent.
Booked to celebrate a birthday and the meal was amazing, the staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Cannot recommend enough, made day so special, worth every penny.

Absolutely fantastic hotel! Stayed here numerous times for business and love it! Super clean & modern bathrooms, powerful showers and complete with nice touches such as thick towels and Elemis shower gel and shampoo. Rooms are also very clean & modern with a "boutique" feel. Again with lovely small touches such as complimentary crisps, water and Tassimo coffee machine (instant coffee also in the room). Amazing food too and a lovely service! Only downside is lack of parking but you can park nearby so not an issue to me. Highly recommend!

We had another wonderful evening at The Georgian House restaurant. All of our 7 guest thoroughly enjoyed the food and thought the service was outstanding. Many had never been before and all said they will return. This is a fantastic restaurant in Whitehaven, beautiful surroundings, delicious food and excellent service. This is for the restaurant, not the hotel as we live locally, but considering that my hubby fainted at the end of the night, we may have had to stay. The staff reaction to this was amazing, they were so helpful and were absolutely brilliant. Food and service is top notch but be warned you will need an extra stomach as the portions are huge. Good selection of Gluten Free Options and other dietary requirements catered to as well.

Went as a treat to celebrate my mum's 80th birthday and the food was amazing the lamb starter melted in your mouth and the tzatziki was a perfect match. The steak was super tender really tasty paired with garlic mushroom sauce. Was really stuffed but managed to destroy the assiette of deserts. The service was first class and all the staff made us feel really welcome, my mum even received a balloon and 80th birthday card which was a really nice touch. Testament to an exceptional restaurant is the number of customers in the restaurant and it was packed. Can't recommend the Georgian House enough, especially for a memorable celebration.

We dined at The Vagabond in Whitehaven for my husband's birthday during a weekend getaway. This place was recommended as an affordable yet enjoyable dining option. The food was of good quality and reasonably priced. The portions were generous, with the lasagne being particularly filling and the chicken parmigiana proving too much for my husband to finish, which is unusual for him. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough space left for dessert.
Been a while since my last visit to The Vagabond . It's lovely to say the staff and the food are still 5 star standard! I ordered Chicken Roulade (see pic) which tasted as good as it's presentation promised....

Great pub food! Enjoyed dinner here with sailing friends and we all enjoyed our food - dog friendly too! Lasagne and Salad was very tasty, but the Scallops were just fabulous. Lots of people picking up takeaway pizza, obviously has a good local reputation as it was busy.

Booked over the phone for a table for 2 on a Sunday afternoon, they happily fitted us in we arrived around 4pm to a very busy little cosy place, they seated us and then we had a little browse of the menu, we had the vagabond feast 12" pizza and a vegetarian Sunday roast with extra potatoes this along with 3 pints of poretti came to £45.50 good value for what we had and a really enjoyable Sunday lunch was had. Staff friendly, atmosphere good a lovely little place a must go in Whitehaven.

This picture is AFTER I had got stuck into this heap big roast. So I got a delivery on Sunday of a roast beef lunch; I was hopeful based on the web site but had not girded my loins sufficiently for this fayre. It arrived in different tin foil cannisters some with vegetables from the table of the Harvest festival itself - red cab, broc, carrots, snips, cheesy cauliflower, roasters and mash - and others with half a calf's worth of beef and Yorkshire pudding. I mean, I could have cooked this myself. It tasted just like a roast lunch and there was more than I could shake a stick at. I might have to go for the kids' menu next time. This is exactly how I would have cooked it myself and that doesn't happen very often as roast lunches are pretty personal things. Then a chocolate truffle cheese cake which was just bonkers. It was pretty much lightly whipped cream on a sweet slightly ginger biscuit base with some choc additions. You gotta go here - it's a stonker. BUT salad would have been nice with the baked brie and perhaps some spicy fig confiture. Nice going, vagabonds!

We ate here for my husbands birthday on a weekend trip to Whitehaven. It was recommended as a place to eat that wasn't crazy expensive but with very decent food. The portions were really well sized - I only just managed to eat all of my lasagne, and my husband was defeated (most unlike him - he usually finishes my meals!) by his chicken parmigiana. Sadly, neither of us had room for pudding :( A good range of beers and ciders and a really good selection of food on both the menu and the specials board.

Probably the best pub meal we've ever had. We had a Sunday roast (a big portion, fresh, comes with a salad of boiled veggies and potatoes/mash) and a steak pie (absolutely delicious and humongous). Sticky toffee was weirdly spongy, but it come with the best toffee ever. I'd recommend reserving a table- we got the last one available.

I think vaga will always be my favourite restaurant. Me and the Mr visit here when we can and it is always really busy, the staff are always professional and nothing is too much trouble. I have asked the chef a couple times to adapt something with dietary needs they never take an issue. Vagas Sunday roasts are to die for and their duck in hoison pizza, wow off the chart.

I was silly and didn’t book anywhere for bank holiday. I am new to the area and thought I wouldn’t get in anywhere. I tried the vagabond and the waitresses kindly squeezed us in. Food, service and atmosphere was all brilliant, will absolutely be returning again but next time I’ll ensure I book and have plenty of cash for tips. Thank you!

Restaurant
Zest Harbourside is a contemporary British eatery that exudes a relaxed ambiance and offers a humble selection of dishes featuring ingredients sourced from Cumbria. The starters include an olive bowl and cheese garlic ciabatta, accompanied by delectable lemon roasted potatoes infused with fennel and red onion. For those craving pizza, the pepperoni option is available. Customers have expressed pleasant surprise upon visiting this establishment, as they were not familiar with the menu beforehand.

We stopped here whilst on holiday, place was busy but staff managed to get me table for two. Food was good, staff kind and helpful. Would recommend for anyone visiting Whitehaven marine. They don't have own car park however there are two pay and display car parks within a minute walk.

Delicious food. Chef takes all the credit. When we arrived at the quiet time of late afternoon, we asked for a table 'Ave yer booked?' we were asked. The place was empty. After five to ten full minutes of checking the PC screen, looking at the layout AND phoning someone for confirmation, we were told 'she will take you up' at which we were allowed to the first floor, also empty. Then told we could not sit in the window and waved to the farthest table from the views, Table 13. (If not superstitious, by now we were). Had not Whitehaven been without competition we would have been outta there. Pictures taken pre and post meal show that there was no imminent coach party and it was as quiet after eating as before. Shame, because the cheesy mash was divine, the Thai coconut mussels amazing and the chilli butter on sourdough a perfect accompaniment. (Seriously, that chef needs to set his sights higher!) My husband's belly pork and root vegetable gratin received full approval. The best meal and the worst welcome ever. The bemused customer. Photo 1.before. Photo 2. After

Brilliant interior to the building, lovely decorations and art work throughout. The food was very tasty, not too long of a wait. The price seems to be worth it, one of those types of places that you’d eat at once a month. Only downside I had here was as I walked up the stairs there was a young waiter picking his nose and then very quickly pulled his finger out his nose as I looked over towards him. Not only a disgusting habit but also very unhygienic and made me uncomfortable that those very hands are touching customers plates. (Thankfully it wasn’t him who served me)
Drew T — Google review
Lovely food and great service. The staff were very attentive and food and drinks arrived quickly. We were in at 6.30 on Saturday evening and it was loud, which was the only draw back. By the time dessert arrived it was more like the volume we would have liked throughout. Overall an experience worth repeating.
Matthew Routledge — Google review
My partner & I dropped in without having booked a table, on a Saturday evening (we were visiting the area & was suggested to us by the hotel we stayed in. We didn't hold out much hope of getting a table due to not having prebooked & apparently being so popular. They were kind enough to offer us a table, if it wasn't going to be a drawn out social affair- the table was already booked by another party for a certain time - (we just wanted to eat & go after having such a long day walking so it worked out well). The table for 2 are only small - 2 plates & a couple of drinks & no room for anything else....luckily the table next us had finished so they dragged over a surplus table or else we would have been stacking plates on top of each other due to lack of space) we didn't order a main or dessert, we ordered 4 starters to share between the 2 of us. Chicken skewers, onion bhaji, calamari bites & cheesy salsa chips (those aren't the exact name of the dishes on the menu-but that's what they pretty much were & it does give a brief food description of what each dish is) The food was hot & well presented. Overall we enjoyed the food. The price is about what you would expect to pay anywhere...approx £7.00/£8.00 per starter For 4 starters & table water, our bill was £32.00 (odd pence) We were seated downstairs & the toilet is situated upstairs (something to consider if steps are a hindrance for you). The service was steady & the atmosphere / deco is kind of low lighting with a 'trendy moody edge' feel. On visiting Whitehaven, we noticed a lot of the eateries are pub food oriented. Compared to other towns we visit, there aren't many 'restaurants' so if you're looking for a 'romantic feel' restaurant we didn't find one...but our visit was only a 2 day visit. Parking is available around the vicinity but it is paid parking no matter the time of day.

Always one of our first choices… My partner and I have been to Zest many times over the last few years and have never been disappointed! Last night’s visit was no different, the only difference was that we were out as a family instead of just the two of us. We had our table booked and got a big table quite close to the bar which was handy when we needed anything, our server was a gentleman with red hair - I never caught his name but he was brilliant, he gave us plenty of laughs and great service all round. For food, I usually go for the ZFC (Zest Fried Chicken) with fries and gravy but tonight I fancied a change… We all had starters which came quickly, I had the pork belly skewers from the specials menu which was divine - please add this as a permanent dish! For mains, I had the bread bowl with assorted butters and the sticky sausages - the bread was delicious as ever (this is my usual starter) and the sausages were good too but boy were they hot! The little metal dish they come in keep them absolutely piping hot for the entirety of the meal so be careful if you have them. Overall, another brilliant visit to Zest and we’ll definitely be back again soon!
Lee Rielly — Google review
Stopped here for a late lunch/early dinner on our last day of our holiday in the Lakes. We'd had a pretty disappointing day up to this time but the food and service at Zest completely turned it around! They have a really interesting and varied menu (for the adults) with lots of tasty sounding options, so much so that it was difficult to choose. We ended up deciding to share the pulled beef and yorkies sharing bowl with sides of double cheesy mash, cauli cheese and cabbage with chorizo. It was all absolutely delicious and we loved the 'build your own' aspect of their sharing plates and sides - the double cheesy mash was particularly delightful!! Our son had chicken goujons with fries which were great too but he was a little disappointed with the options on the children's menu. Compared to the adults menu, the childrens menu is quite limited and boring! We did ask if they could do a smaller portion of any of the adults meals but were told no - this would be a great option to enhance the more adventurous kids experience (just a bit of feedback if the managers are reading!) That is my only critique however, and aside from that we all really enjoyed our food. Service was quick and the staff were really friendly and helpful and looked happy to be there. The prices are really reasonable and the portion sizes generous. Overall we enjoyed our experience here and would definitely return if we are ever back in the area. Would recommend to anyone looking for something a bit different and tasty!
