Restaurant
Lobo Rojo is located at the fish quay's intersection, inside the renowned Irvins building. This establishment serves genuine Mexican cuisine that includes tacos, burritos, and fajitas. They also offer a variety of beverages, notably their famous margarita cocktails. The quality of food here surpasses that of various chain restaurants in the city center, resulting in a consistently bustling environment. It is advisable to make reservations as it can get extremely busy even on weeknights.
I adore this place! Mexican food is pretty much always top of my list and these guys have really knocked it out of the park. The staff are so friendly and super informative when it comes to any queries with the menu. My partner is coeliac and majority of their menu is accommodating to gluten free. Last time we were there, the staff member took the time and went through what is GF and what may contain etc. Something which may sound trivial but is incredibly thoughtful and helpful! The food is fresh, delicious and so full of flavour. I havenโ€™t had a bad thing on their menu yet. Would highly recommend the tuna tostados and the mole chicken burrito. Great selection of salsas too. Our server told us the pineapple express was insanely hot (something I thought I could handle) when I put almost half on my burrito and realised I made a huge mistake, she gave me a glass of milk without any judgment. Great drinks menu with a great choice of tequilas! Will be back again very, very soon!

Called in for breakfast today and what a breakfast it was. I personally had the steak and eggs and it was brilliant. My Son had a huge portion of pancakes and my wife had the cali fry up. Everyone left full and happy!

We've been here a few times and the food is definitely delicious. It's a modern restaurant that's really big on design colour and feels like an exciting dining experience. The available cocktails are also part of the theatre of the whole thing. On my last visit I'd have given 5 stars, on my latest visit I'd have given 3 stars. On both occasions the food was impeccable. Both times I've had the amazing Vegano (sharing) platter all to myself. The Kale is somehow delicious and I don't normally like kale. The picture illustrates everything you get and it's well worth the price. Unfortunately, thanks to my latest visit, I think the staffing needs bolstering or the restaurant management needs to work out quite what level of custom it can deal with. We arrived at 6:45 for our meal and waited 50 to 55 minutes before any food was put in front of us. I could see this was happening elsewhere in the restaurant too. We also ordered more drinks when the food arrived and they didn't come until the food was almost finished. At that point, the drink was handed over and we were told that the table was booked for another couple in 10 minutes, so would we mind being quick?! That ruled out any chance of dessert. I'd still go back. The food really is worth it and the staff are friendly, I don't necessarily think it's their fault if there are more bookings than they can cope with. It's testament to how good the place is that I still give 4 stars. I just hope they rectify the problems before our next visit.

Lovely meal. I am a huge fan of coriander but ngl this was a bit too much kind of overpowered the dish! Would come again though, I'd just try a different dish.

Absolutely love this place. The vegetarian options are exceptional!!! We eat here every time we visit new castle. The quality and flavours rival top restaurants in London!

I had a good experience here with the staff and the food was good. The ambience is quite nice and you can enjoy yourself. Juicy Steaks, well marinated.

Recommended booking as it was rammed, even on the Tuesday night we attended. Great selections of different mexican food available on offer. Decent selection of wines, beers and cocktails. Service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere was great with a view of the kitchen area too. Will definitely be visiting again.
Bradley Whalen-Griffiths โ€” Google review
Came here for a birthday meal. The food was great, reminded me of some of the more authentic Mexican food I've had in the past. My wife and I shared some nachos, asada tacos and carnitas, all of which were very nice. Loads of fresh ingredients and well cooked, beef was lovely and soft in the Carne Asada. Ordered the tray of salsas, they were very well made, one of which was very spicy, made with what I think was habanero and not scotch bonnet which is often a mistake with Mexican, just doesn't provide the right flavour. We also had some cocktails, these were very nice and refreshing too. I'll definitely be back, maybe try the one in Sandyford first as it's a little closer.

Espectacular! My favourite Mexican restaurant in the UK. The tortas, tacos and tostadas, plus the pineapple fiery salsa๐Ÿ‘Œ Bring some friends and go wild. If they improve the nachos, Iโ€™m moving in.

Recently visited Lobo Rojo for a birthday and I can confidently say that it was an incredible experience. The food was simply amazing - every dish was bursting with flavor and made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The attention to detail in each dish is evident and the presentation is stunning. What really made my experience at Lobo Rojo stand out was the exceptional service provided by the staff. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of my dining experience was perfect! Overall, I cannot recommend Lobo Rojo enough. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff are truly exceptional.

Super friendly staff with a very extensive menu, taco Tuesday deal was a lovely bonus for our valentines meal. Some of the best and most flavoursome meatballs Iโ€™ve ever had. All accompanied by a delicious unusual white Malbec, canโ€™t recommend this place enough for a date spot and top quality Mexican food! Worth the price

Restaurant
Located on the main strip of restaurants, the Salty Sea Dog offers a variety of tapas dishes and a wide array of cocktails. They have a special deal from Sunday to Thursday, which includes four tapas and either a glass of wine or a beer for 22.95. The place can get quite crowded during peak hours but has delicious food and the option to reserve tables. Additionally, they serve breakfast with tasty options like Mexican eggs and offer great cocktails in the evenings.
Stopped off on a bike ride for a break. We had chunky chips and lager in the sun. Staff are so nice and their chips are the best!

First time visiting, good bar playing good music, food was nice but could have done with a few more chips
Rachel McAdam โ€” Google review
We often have tapas or Sunday lunch here and they are always spot on. We decided to try the captainโ€™s breakfast And the breakfast muffin and we were very disappointed, sausage and bacon were plenty full, but had no colour to them at all looked like they had been. Boiled not grilled or fried, very unappealing, even the dog turned his nose up. They were cooked but very bland .

Booked a table here for a work meal at 3pm. Lads running the bar and food were fantastic! Service was great. Give me a taster glass when I couldnโ€™t decide what I wanted to drink and the food was excellent. Will be returning with the Mrs. breath of fresh air this place
NewBiker85 Dixon โ€” Google review
The staff were in conversation as we walked in and it was very quiet, took a while before anyone acknowledged us. They still managed to get our orders wrong twice. Then asked for the tea pot back because they needed it for the next couple who walked in. At least we had a laugh with the other couple who were waiting for the prized tea pot. Fawlty towers rings a bell. Shame because the food was OK.
Steven Robins โ€” Google review
While in the area popped in for some coffee, and noticed the breakfast menu. It was an impromptu visit but the Mexican eggs were absolutely delicious. Eggs perfectly done and a flat white to complete my breakfast. Highly recommend for cocktails on the evening too. Thanks you really enjoyed my visit today

Beautiful bar on north shields quayside. It's gorgeous and has a lovely comfy atmosphere. The staff are brilliant and can't do enough to help you. The place itself is stunning! Though it's three flights of stairs to the top function room floor. Toilets are accessible on each floor. The food was okay, nothing amazing but decent for the price. Would recommend for drinks.
Corinne Read โ€” Google review
Brilliant Christmas meal here Sat 2 December. Top floor private room for 16 good and true friends. Free glass of Prosecco was a very pleasant surprise. Very generous portions enjoyed by everyone. My first visit there. Can't wait to return soon. Many thanks Salty Dog Team.

This bar has recently been refurbished to a high standard. It has a new upstairs bar and a function room on the top floor. It has a great range of cocktails and drinks and the prices are reasonable at around ยฃ6.50 per cocktail.

Pub
The Low Lights Tavern, the oldest pub on the North Shields Fish Quay with a rich history of over four centuries, is known as Sam Fenders local and proudly displays his Brit Awards at the bar. This traditional establishment offers typical pub fare like pies and a variety of beers and ales. The tavern provides delicious home-cooked meals such as handmade pies, along with an assortment of Scottish Whisky, wines, and spirits.
A lovely experience. The staff were so welcoming and the food was superb.
Beki Fairhurst โ€” Google review
The Low Lights Tavern was excellent as it served a purpose on an evening. My brother in law and his wife were staying from Thailand. It was his last night in the UK, he had been here since March and he wanted a decent pint before he left. Not only did he have a decent pint but an excellent meal, an Irish Stew. My meal was a vegetable burger, which was rather dry. He was very satisfied.
Steven Haswell โ€” Google review
Iconic North Shields pub from around 1650, amazing home made pies plus daily specials (fish pie sounded amazing) and regular pub classics. The Steak and Lowlights Ale pie was fantastic.
Alan Dupre โ€” Google review
Love this proper boozer. There aren't so many left! But this has a great pint PLUS the best pies around! The pub is very old but they've updated enough to be very comfortable with a great atmosphere. Thanks for everything!
Janet Mary Ferry โ€” Google review
Fantastic food and super friendly service! We stopped here for lunch after a walk around Fish Quay with the dogs and it did not disappoint! The pies were absolutely amazing: shortcrust pasty with rich, flavourful beef and some of the best gravy Iโ€™ve ever had! The mash, chips and mushy peas were all good as well. Definitely coming back here!
Gabe Fender โ€” Google review
This place is an amazing little bar for great food and drink. I met this man Nigel Devine who made the place feel like my local pub back home. The staff was lovely. The food was fantastic( fish and chips) there was so much that I couldn't finish it all. You won't go hungry eating here. The portions are American sized. It was crowded with locals in the bar area but I was able to get into the music room for a meal and 2 pints. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting anywhere near Newcastle or North Shields.

When youโ€˜re travelling alone, eating out sometimes can be a bit strange. Not at this place: people are nice and welcoming. Food (pie&scampi) and beer is delicious. Staff and the 2 owners are really friendly. I felt instantly at home. Canโ€™t wait to be back @ the Low Lights!

Absolutely amazing pub with a great selection of Real Ales and gorgeous homemade pies served with mash or twice cooked chips. The Vegan pie was fantastic and probably one of the best pie's I've had

Went for lunch- bar staff was really helpful getting us a table sorted out for our party of 4. The peppered steak and mushroom pie was fantastic. Apple pie and the cheesecake also highly recommended.

( Wednesday 09/08/2023) I had a delicious plate of twice cooked chips, mushy peas ,salad, homemade tartar sauce, and beer battered cod. Karin had the salmon on a bed of pasta quills in a spicy ,creamy tomato sauce with garlic bread. We also ordered a side of beer battered onion rings. We both thought that the quality and portions were generous and top quality. The chap that welcomed us and served us was the real star of the Low Light Tavern. Delicious food, great value, and fantastic service.
mark huxter โ€” Google review
Traditional pub with a great atmosphere in the heart of the fishquay. Pies are the showstoppers here. Steak and ale pie, chock-a-block with filling, Corned Beef pie is a classic done really well and probably the best we've ever had. Gravy rich and tasty and mushy peas are lush. Only criticism is that the battered cod was measly for the price. That was a let down. Whilst the Waterfront chippy at the bottom of the street can't compete on pies and pints, they do knock spots off the lowlights for fish. They do monster battered cod for less cost. I would go back to the Lowlights for pies and pints only.
Col G โ€” Google review
Been going here since 2014 - what's not to love great pies, service & beer! Kate is so warm & friendly. I love an independent owned pub much better than a chain. Keep doing you, nothing needs changing
suzie Lingard โ€” Google review
Didn't really know anything about this great, historic, traditional pub, had been attracted by photos of the food on Facebook. Was shocked when we opened the door, couldn't believe how packed it was at 6 pm Friday The music room was shoulder to shoulder but with great atmosphere waiting for the gig to start. Standing room only in the bar area. Staff efficient, friendly and very helpful. Thinned out a little around 7 and we got a table which meant we could enjoy the fantastic pies

Bar & grill
Cocktail bar
Dodgins Yard is a relaxed eatery on the fish quay, known for its casual ambiance and menu of classic breakfast options, wraps, and fish & chips. This bar and grill style restaurant prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients in their meat boards and seafood platters. It is not only a popular spot for breakfast but also caters to larger groups with their shareable boards.
Sunday lunch at its finest! Delicious belly pork roast dinner today along with a pint of neck oil. Other meal was a chicken in a roll. Chicken was a little dry, but came with plenty of gravy and the bread was good. Little seasoning needed on the vegetables though that is personal preference. Belly pork was very nice and crackling was tasty! Photos do not do it justice. High chair available. Doesnโ€™t take American Express, couldnโ€™t find the baby changing!!

Went here for breakfast on Saturday morning and it was fabulous. The pictures of food on the website are really good but the plat of food that lands in front of you is so much better. I had the full English and it was amazing. Really tasty and well cooked. It arrived hot and I really enjoyed it. I took my youngest with me and orders a few bits off menu which was no trouble at all. We really enjoyed the chilled atmosphere and had a lovely leisurely breakfast together. I felt it was reasonably priced especially considering the quality of the food and cooking. Can't wait to go back for dinner and have one of the tasty looking lobsters. Ps the sausage were some of the best I've tasted on a cooked breakfast.
Matt Cassady โ€” Google review
Food was nice, But we waited an hour for food after ordering I had to ask the waiter if he knew how much longer it would be. He did chase it up.we weren't given any utensils for the lobster claws or wet wipes, dipping bowl for the muscles I had to ask for something to wipe our hands. Once the food came we never got asked if we would like another drink so most of the table sat with empty glasses, we were a party of 8. They did come to tell us our table was booked out 15 mins before the other party was arriving and some of us were still eating.

Went here for a Sunday lunch, I don't ever enjoy a Sunday lunch out. I prefer my own. I ordered the Lamb Shank, and my partner ordered the Trio of Meats.. nice veg perfectly cooked.. Really good food, first time I've enjoyed a Sunday lunch out in a very long time. The Lamb was lovely and just fell off the Bone, the Beef nice good bit of slow cooked beef and just broke away with the fork ๐Ÿ˜‹ the belly Pork with Crackling so yummy and then the Chicken which was also lush. The only issue was the veg, potatoes and Yorkshire were Luke Warm but the Meat was Nice and Hot just a shame the rest wasnt the same, also unfortunately the Yorkshire puddings were over cooked but nice big Yorkshire puds if you like them well done.. The place itself is a cute little bistro type restaurant, nice and clean... The staff are friendly but not very interactive with customers, which lets any business down... I'm not sure what's up with people who work in customer services these days, but what happened to Service with a Smile ๐Ÿ˜ƒ ... We will still give it another go, but next time for the seafood, they had some lovely Live Fresh Lobsters ๐Ÿฆž in a tank waiting to be picked to be cooked ๐Ÿ˜‹
Kim Carrington (Carringtons Critics) โ€” Google review
Went here for a spur of the moment choice. Sunday lunch was absolutely beautiful. Full of flavour and enough to fill your tum even if it didn't look much at first. Got one beef brisket, one pan fried chicken breast both with mash (spring onions I side was a very tasty surprise), large Yorkshire pudding and a separate tray of veg for us to share which was the usual roasties, swede mash, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli and extra gravy. One coke, one lemonade. All for ยฃ30. Sat outside in the sun and service was quick too.

Highly recommend this place for a date night. We ordered the Angler Board for 2, 2 fries and the battered onion rings. (Generous fries portions!) Everything was delicious, the service was great, and the atmosphere gave cosy, intimate vibes. The place is tastefully decorated with a seaside theme. Weโ€™ll definitely be back to try your other menu options!๐Ÿคค

Visited here 3 times now and never had a bad experience. Thereโ€™s a great selection of food and drink to choose from. It is advised you ring up and book a table as the place itself is quite small inside. You will be required to pay a ยฃ5pp deposit on booking which is more than fair in my opinion. This is then taken from the bill on your visit. I have visited here both on a date night and with a group of friends. My only negative was that as a group, some of the sides werenโ€™t as hot as Iโ€™ve experienced when going just with my husband, so whether thatโ€™s down to being slightly tougher to cater for larger groupsโ€ฆ but it certainly wouldnโ€™t deter us visiting as a group again. The meats and sides options are DIVINE along with the lobster fries (according to my hubby & brother in law). Staff are always really attentive too which is a bonus. Really reasonably priced for the portion sizes and quality of the food!

First time we came we very much enjoyed the place and the food, but I feel that standards are falling. Our breakfast was massively overcooked: leathery rough mushrooms, tough poached eggs. For a tenner it left me very underwhelmed
Ana Morales โ€” Google review
Had to send three coffees back as freezing. Food was warm and the service was abismal. Our suger thrown across the table,as none of our hot drinks came with any, much have been too much of an effort for the server.

Didn't find the exterior very inviting, but pleasantly surprised with the interior rather quirky. Went for Sunday lunch first time. Good selection on menu. Plenty of meat and good variation of veg arrived at the table. It was hot and tasty. Seasoned well, possibly to much black pepper for some. Would ask them to hold back on it next time. Again good selection of deserts. Fair size portions. Yummy! I would definitely go back. Would also recommend booking first, quite a few people had to be turned away. Popular place.

Bar
The Ships Cat is a recent addition to the fish quay, occupying a renovated warehouse that now serves as a bar with an outdoor terrace and restaurant. It is welcoming to dogs and operates daily. Their extensive menu offers a variety of dishes ranging from pizzas, burgers, kebabs, loaded fries, sharing platters, steak with accompanying chips, as well as classic seafood options like fish and chips. The establishment boasts attractive decor and creates a pleasant ambiance.
Cool decor and immaculately clean. Staff helpful and happy to amend food order from their menu to suit our desires. Food was filling and good value. A good selection of beers on keg and in the fridge including Almasty on keg which is a great local brewery and other decent breweries like Tiny Rebel and Beavertown. I'd like to see some cask but it's probably not that sort of venue really. Quite a lot of the tables were booked on our visit (we hadn't) but might be worth considering booking ahead if you know you want to go there. Also note the fat cut chips are VERY fat, check out my photo. I'd definitely be happy to revisit for food.

Came here on Xmas eve, absolutely lush !!! food was amazing, we had a curry pizza (believe it or not) and a kebab both absolutely gorgeous!! massive portions and reasonably priced. Service lacked at the end as we waited about 15 minutes for the bill while they all chatted at the bar but that didn't affect our opinion on the place. Decor is great and I'll definitely be back.

Fantastic experience today. Went with the wife for the first time and had the meat sharing platter with dirty fries and it was utterly outstanding. Every single part of the meal was delicious. I'll start with the steak which was perfectly cooked and rested. Juicy and packed full of flavour as we're the skewers. The buttermilk chicken goujons were equally as amazing. Succulent and crispy. The chicken wings were barbecuey and massive. That chicken must have been hitting the gym for sure! Coleslaw and dirty fries were great but couldn't finish it. 10 out of 10. Service was great so thanks to all the staff. Oh, perfect pint of guinness as well!

Visited for the first time and absolutely loved it. Table service for ordering and although there were a few people who had ordered food, the food came out the kitchen in speedy fashion. Considering it was a Wednesday evening, there were a few people dotted around which is always a good sign! Be mindful - kitchen staff can apparently finish around 8-8:30, so time your visit carefully to avoid disappointment. We had a burger each and my husband ordered a side of dirty friesโ€ฆ. Totally underestimating the size of them haha! But we certainly gave it our all to eat everything as it was so delicious! Had Saturday night food here, and food was delicious. Really good portions and value for money. The decor is great, modern and lively, but the staff and service let this place down. They were not on the ball with drinks, even though it was table service, we had to repeatedly go to the bar for drinks. After food, we had to go to the bar to order drinks, but the bar man brought them over to us. He walked away and I had to ask for him to take our plates/boards away, as they had been sitting there for over half an hour. Iโ€™ve been before to this place and again, food good but service bad.
