Marlfield Lake

Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Marlfield Lake is a picturesque nature preserve, ideal for families with children. The lake boasts an abundance of ducks and other birds that can be admired from the strategically placed feeding tables. Visitors are advised not to feed them bread, as per the signs around the area. Children can explore the hillside or enjoy a walk towards Marlfield village, where they can witness how affluent individuals live in their grandiose estates.
Lovely place to visit at any time of day but my personal favourite time is early morning. Lots of ducks there to feed plus some swans and other water birds. There's a nice walk around marlfield and benches for picnics. Very child friendly but be careful nevertheless, as its on the side of the road.
Mags — Google review
Really good place to go for a walk. If you have children, this is a great place to visit. Stand at the viewing point and feed the ducks, not not with bread as the sign on the lake says. The children can do a bit of exploring on the hillside, see the birds in their natural habitat feeding from the well positioned feed tables. If you are energetic, a walk south into the village of Marlfield or along the drive to the "big house" of Marlfield and see how the other half lived. A really great afternoon can be spent here only three kms from Clonmel town centre. Well within your 5km allowance.

Stunning lake to take kids too the ducks and swans can always be seen by kids beautiful walk way too with picnic benches fab spot love it
AINE HUMPHRIES — Google review
This is a beautiful and scenic area, ideal for all ages. There are only 2 problems I've noticed, and neither are to do with the lake: 1. Cars driving through often go way too fast to be safe for walkers. Please slow down, it only adds a few seconds 2. Despite the signs, people still give bread to the ducks and swans. This is dangerous to them, and there are better options to give our lovely wildlife
J P (CyberByte727) — Google review
Nice quiet small lake with a duck, swan and other waterfowl feeding or observation area. There are signs up advising people not to feed bread to the birds however, as it can make birds sick and gunk up the water. So if you'd like to feed the birds it's better to bring something other than bread. There are a few benches and some tables around for picnics. Good for dog walks. If visiting with young kids you should note that while mostly quiet it is an active road so some traffic will pass by and there is no footpath. Traffic is generally very slow moving hear to be fair Also the waters edge is unprotected and pretty much level with the road in all the areas away from the benches. But the water is not deep near the edge.

Absolutely beautiful spot. Ducks and swans gliding across the lake. Huge area for on street parking and picnic tables. Really charming place.
Mx Folley — Google review
This is not a swimming lake !. The swans sometimes have to walk to cross it.The lake which was man made to run mills & a distillery way back in the 1700s . When the industries ceased, a local landlord had it stocked with fish for his own use. Now a days , it is a bird sanctuary & is an oasis for the citizens of Clonmel.

Carey's Castle is a picturesque destination that offers scenic forest walks as well as ancient ruins to explore. There are picnic tables available at the entrance where visitors can park their vehicles. Castle of beaten track. No need for tickets. I ruins of old yard and shed. Stream flows beside giving the feeling of a peaceful area. 15min walk from car park to the castle. Can cycle also. Lots of people out in groups to do it and it's shelters from rain and sun. Can walk around ruins and out the opposite way to the exit up the road. 1 hour tour would cover

Beautiful! There are really nice walking trails and the castle, although small, has very nice scenery. When we went there were not many people around and it was very peaceful.

Beautiful old ruins and lovely forest walks. Parking at entrance with picnic tables. You may need wellies on winter days but lovely for walk any time of the year. Only down side is the litter 😡 bring it home people! Plus individuals on scramblers seem to be more frequent.

Beautiful centrepiece to the town of Clonmel. Arriving in from Blueway by bicycle, one could be forgiven for thinking that it was the centre of a French town. Narrow streets and old buildings with the river at the centre, the promotion of the blueway will bring more into central clonmel.

Bar
Sean Tierneys Bar and Restaurant is a charming and stylish spot in Clonmel, known for its inviting atmosphere and delicious food. The decor is impressive with beautiful woodwork and lighting that creates a captivating ambiance. While the food may not be extraordinary, it is well-prepared and satisfying. The bar is adorned with delightful decorations, giving it an authentic pub feel. Although the prices are a bit high, the quality of ingredients used in the dishes justifies it.
I would recommend visiting this quaint and very stylish bar if you are passing. The décor is such that no photos can do it justice as the wood and lighting make it a sight to behold. When we arrived it was quite busy but we were well seen to by an older gent who placed us on the bar until a table became available. Food is nothing to rave about but it tasted good and was well presented. Well worth a visit.

Been to a lot of pubs in my days, without a doubt Tierney's is at the top of the heap. Wonderful atmosphere, impeccably clean, charming interior, perfect pint and food was wholesome. I'm glad we stopped in and will definitely be back.

Really nice meal in this Clonmel pub. The plaice and chips were excellent and with a side of mash with carrots and broccoli. My companion had the steak sandwich ani it was equally good.
Noel Walsh — Google review
We really enjoyed the food. As a family of three generations, the food suited all. Terrific service, owner very kind and helpful. The pub itself is absolutely amazing, the furniture and trinkets around the place make the whole experience worth while.
kathleen turner — Google review
The place looked fantastic, decked out with loads of decorations, which made it feel like a proper pub. Food was quite pricey but the ingredients used were of high quality. The biggest let down was the music playing. The sad and mellow classical music completely brought the atmosphere down which hindered the entire experience. Some trad would have been infinitely better
Johnny Varadi — Google review
Tierney’s is steeped in history as well as a mesmerizing interior, with captivating vintage and antique decor. The staff was charming, service was quick, and food/drink was very good.

I stayed here for 2 nights for work. The room was lovely! Comfortable bed, nice shower. The breakfast was lovely. I have a wheat allergy, and they were able to accommodate. Booking and getting my key was easy. The only downside was that the restaurant wasn't open at night. I had to find something else. Luckily, there are several places nearby.

Lunch with a friend. Seating was comfortable and the tables weren't too close together. Menu was varied with some unknown items. The waitress was able to give us a full description of anything that was unfamiliar and our order was sorted very quickly. No non alcoholic wine but a 00 lager was available. Didn't have to wait long for our order and the food was delicious and well presented. No pressure to choose a dessert as soon as the main was done. Toilets, which were clean and tidy, are downstairs which could be a problem for some. Looking forward to returning to sample more of the menu in the future.

22/01/22. Had a date night with my boyfriend here tonight , from start to finish I have only fantastic things to say. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the staff I can't compliment more if I tried they were all very polite and attentive. Everything we had to eat was outstanding, most definitely will be back again soon and we would highly recommend.

What can I say. This place was amazing. As we entered we were greeted by lovely staff. One took our jackets and another brought us to our seats. As we sat the place was beautiful inside. Very fancy. Just what we wanted for our date. We sat and presented a menu. I enquired about their menu online that gave 2 or 3 course meals. I was informed that this was no longer available. This was very disappointing as we came in earlier as the menu stated it was between a certain times. The waiter apologised and explained the menu they did have. Sold it to us straight away. We ordered and while waiting for our food the waiter came to us with small bowls of complimentary soup and a selection of homemade bread. I was so impressed. Small touch that was not necessary but was incredible. This was a starter of what was to come. The food was amazing. 10 out of 10. I'd say we barely spoke two words to eachother, just the random moan of appreciation for the food 😋. They were presented amazingly, and tasted better. I can't wait to go back. The food was pricey but if you were to go there every now and then it is worth every penny. I can't wait to go back. Only down fall I encountered was the breeze from the door. Everytime it was opened a breeze came into the whole restaurant. We weren't near the door either. A waitress did pull a curtain and to be fair approached every table and apologised for this. Didn't have to but it was appreciated.

Thomas Hennessy — Google review
My wife and I have been fortunate to enjoy many excellent meals during our travels and the decade we lived together in Los Angeles. Mani offers more delicately delicious food and a warmer reception than some of the very best we’ve visited. They’ve hosted us for everything from family celebrations to more intimate date nights. On the many occasions we have been lucky enough to eat at Mani, we have been consistently impressed with the great food, outstanding service, and the changing menu. Their cocktail menu and wine list would rival much larger restaurants, while the food presentation and range of dishes has Michelin-worthy attention to detail. The care that Catherine and Eddy put into the service brings a genuine warmth and friendliness that is rare to find. Many larger cities do not have a dining experience of this caliber.
Zeb Wallace — Google review
Absolutely delicious food. I was brought there for my birthday dinner. 3 course meal. Food was incredible and their steak is to die for- perfect medium rare with chargrilled outside and that special flavour of real smoke. Presentation of dishes is just stunning, photos don't do justice. Cocktails were amazing. And as a birthday gift I got song blasted on speakers and candle in my desert. Treated like a queen. Sraff is amazing too with attention that is not bothersome, yet very approachable. Me and my partner have visited good few restaurants over the last half a year and I can honestly say Mani is the best by far. I'm still amazed about it. Highly recommend everyone to experience it, the price is well worth it.

When you find a gem, you are in two minds, tell people or don't tell people. Keep it for yourself, so it stays the same. Mani is a bit of an exception, it's already well known, tops the polls in Clonmel and everybody raves about it. So why the two minds - well let me just say, not only would I travel to experience everything on their current menu, but we will be travelling for everything on their seasonal menu. Plate for plate from starter though main and leave on high desert. It was flawless and a match for any restaurant in all three capital cities in the home land including belfast. From the amuse bouche, delicate and full of flavor to wake your pallet up to the chefs take on a rubben. Now there is a master class in taking a classic and making it your own. Please can you change the name to Mani's rubben and just leave it at that. Out of the world beef, pickles, pickled onion and radishes, horseradish aoli with garlic crotons and an onion jam that just lifts it to a new level. If you have ever wanted to go to New York for food especially the rubben, skip the flight and drive to Manis in Clonmel. Staff are amazing, service is outstanding hostest is in full control of the room.and a chef making wonders in the kitchen. Going back to the two minds, not telling you about desert, You will just have to go and experience Mani for yourself.

The Galileo Cafe, an Italian restaurant, received rave reviews for its exceptional staff and delicious food. During a birthday celebration, the attentive employees even played the birthday song, making the occasion memorable. Lovely set up... This our first visit after they moved... The place was very busy at that time, but they were able to accommodate us. . I thought the menu was a little bit pricey, but in these times I understand that it's not easy. The food was good and our waitress was very nice.

I ordered a portion of pasta primavera,in the menu it is not mentioned that it is terribly spicy, maybe they just had some sauce left from the arrabiatapasta...It has greenpeas, which it is not mentioned as an ingredient ,the chicken sandwich has LOTS of garlic, the burger came scattered in the bag...Pizza was the only think good.I just looked at the food,I had great fun with my family, and I fed the bin with it.It is so disappointing,Gallileo was very nice before, now they don t care about the customers anymore.

A little more expensive than your average Italian restaurant but you get what you pay for, the food is beautiful. No alcohol is served onsite but you can bring your own wine once you spend over €25 euros at the restaurant. Well worth a visit.
Jacqui Tinley — Google review
This place was shocking. From first entry. We was greeted with a cold reception? The options was reduced too fewer items than what was actually assigned to the given Menu? I have been too many Italian restaurants throughout Europe this is by far the worst out there and a disrespect to authentic Italian food. I’m not even going to describe the food that was brought to the table. I asked them to return it to the Kitchen and asked to speak with head chef? Whom didn’t care to show face. This restaurant is a disgrace and insult to good Italian dishes. Anyone who rates this place needs to go to Italy or better still not here.

Lovely clean restaurant. Very open and spacious. Food was cooked fresh and was delicious. We shared a pizza and pasta dish and it was the best pizza we have had. Crispy base and not at all greasy. The pasta had plenty of sauce and chicken. The desserts looked lovely. My husband had a lemon meringue and I had chocolate brownie. I was a little disappointed with the brownie, it was a little dry. But the presentation of desserts was lovely. Will return again to try a different topping on the pizza. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Just one point I need to address, the menu on the website is not necessarily the same as in the cafe. I was looking forward to having the calamari for starters but it was not on the menu in the cafe. I did mention this to the waitress and she said they have taken that off as they can't always get calamari. Just something to be aware of.

We had our Christmas break up party here. Food was only OK, atmosphere left a lot to be desired. The only saving grace was that the staff were friendly and helpful.

We were a party of 4 on our Christmas night and we were going the 'whole hog' Starters Mains Dessert. The service was very good, attentive servers, nice atmosphere. Starters were very good. Mains were a lasagne, very good, a pizza, very good, steak again very good, my was Chicken Arribiata, a huge disappointment. The sauce was more like soup and the chicken pieces were tiny and honestly I felt were more like pre cooked but definitely not what I expected. I brought this feedback to the server and she said she'd pass it on. I heard nothing more about it. Our desserts were good and coffee was good. It was a busy night but I don't think that should have affected my main course. We obviously tipped and left. Would it stop me going back, no but I don't think it will be Arribiata again.

With all due respect, I think you are bluffing about us not collecting our food on time. We are always prompt in collecting our food wherever we order because usually when we place it, we are just right outside the restaurant/ cafe. For this specific order, the pick-up time was 20 past five, we were at your door at 18 past five, 2 minutes early. The carbonara was still piping hot when we ate it and so were the pizza and the steak sandwich. It's the taste of the food really that was the problem. Carbonara is not meant to be extremely greasy. I could tell that you put way too much oil when cooking it, add the natural fat from the pancetta on top of the oil is what made it very, very oily. The base most probably would have been saved, if it was cooked properly but it wasn't. Your steak sandwich was all Naan bread. Believe, me I could go on picking on the taste of the food alone. On top of that, the way you respond to people here in Google who did not give you good reviews are rude to the point of being nasty. Anyone reading this, go on, scroll to the bad reviews of the business and see how they respond. While customers are not always right, everyone deserves to be treated right even if it's not something you agree. Kindness and politeness can go a long way. Anyone wanting a good bite in Clonmel, there are plenty of great food around town. You can always go to The Bunker and Befani's, I would highly recommend those places. When Mani opens and you want to do fine dining instead, that one would be a great choice. If you just want coffee and a quick bite, there's always D'Bunked. And they would treat you right as well (I hope, at least I've always had great experience in those places). ------------ Edit: I dropped the rating to one from two after reading the nasty comments this business is giving on anyone who doesn't give them a good review. Whoever is moderating this business' social media presence, definitely needs to learn good Customer Service! ------------ I do not like giving bad reviews so most probably I will edit this if I need to in the future. I suppose businesses just like people would have their bad days, so maybe I'd find something nice to say about the food one day. We had a takeaway a few days ago from Galileo. The pizza I'm sorry to say was really not good, never mind the price. A frozen pizza from Dunne's Simply Better brand is 10 times better than what we had. The carbonara was extremely oily. I didn't even try the steak sandwich as the first two I got were manky, but I was told it wasn't any good either. Before the lockdown we had a meal at the restaurant. While the food wasn't exactly fantastic still, their customer service was awesome. I really hope they can start doing real Italian cooking as advertised though.

One of the best pizza in Ireland, the crust is stunning, homemade like. Makes the likes of Apache or Four Star look like a little b**ch. The steak open sandwich was to die for. Service was nice, we did not lack anything. Would definitely recommend.

What a super Italian restaurant. I had a very tasty gluten free penne prawn dish with gluten free garlic bread. The service and food quality was top notch. No wine list, it's BYOB. The coffee was also excellent.
