Outdoor Activities
Playa de la Costilla is a popular 4km stretch of sandy city beach in Rota, known for its cleanliness and excellent amenities such as showers, toilets, changing rooms, and lifeguards. The beach features a wheelchair-accessible promenade and is lined with six restaurants and three chiringuitos. While it can get crowded in the summer, it offers relative privacy compared to other beaches along the coast.
Such a beautiful beach! I went here multiple times and every time was amazing. There are lots of seagulls around at all times sometimes reaching 100 or more seagulls at once. Overall one of the best beaches I have ever visited.
Quinton Moss — Google review
Very nice and clean beach. Unfortunately, there is no shower or a place where you can wash you feet from sand.
Maria K — Google review
Amazing place, I love visiting this part of rota, mostly enjoy fishing at the beach.

Nice beach, depressing town. Not too far from Jerez.

No Place like home when the question of "best beach" is asked. But this is a very good beach, Rota is a family oriented place so there are many families on the beach, lots of kids, young adults and older people because the whole family goes to the beach together. Be careful, it's very common to see topless ladies so don't stare, that would be rude. Enjoy the view with your own family. The vino and sangria is delicious and try some tapas, go out on a limb and try the raw squid, enjoy an evening listening to a local singing and dancing. Costa Ballena, golf course is beautiful and well kept, go see the horse race on the beach. Try the wine at the many Bodegas. There are too many things to do, but enjoy as much as you can. If it's Feria, go out and dance and enjoy the night. Running of the Bulls, Tomatino, Christmas celebration at La Frontera. I love this place and the people.

There are few words to describe just how beautiful this beach is! The water, the sand that doesn't stick to you and the views - all breathtaking! 😘

I simply love this beach. White sand. Ample space. Stunning sunsets.

Loved the beach. Not crowded. Water was cool and refreshing.

Beautiful beach and very fun. Miss the Sunday vendors and chiringuitos with chill vibes.
Vi “Van Feor” Anton — Google review
Relatively unspoilt beaches in lovely rural setting. Beautiful! This place will not be everyone's cup of tea because of its isolation and lack of amenities. Perfect if you prefer quiet (in the summer it gets kind of busy) and relative privacy. If you want that kind of thing there are loads of places up and down the coast. Wonderful to walk along and forget about the stresses of life! I highly recommend this place.

Castle
Castillo de Luna, a 13th-century castle in Rota, Cadiz, was built on the site of an 11th-century Muslim convent. It features five crenelated towers and a rectangular layout with a central courtyard. The castle is a symbol of Rota and serves as the city hall. Despite being rebuilt over the years, it holds a rich history with Portugal, Spain, and the Moors.
The crown of Rota's history. It's such a charming castle and services the city as its city hall. They've done a great job of preserving their past and making it functional. If you can get a tour of the roof, do it, but use caution because there are no guard rails. It gives you a great view of Rota! The castle's tranfer among owners makes for a fascinating story! It is the office's of the local council and was closed when we were there. It looks to neat and tidy and therefore lacks that old character.

There is a lot of history here. This castle has been built and rebuilt but has a wonderful history with Portugal, Spain, the Moors, etc.. Supposedly, The Columbus Expedition started here. The Castle fell into disrepair for many years and then the city repaired it and now city hall is here. It is charming and the views are amazing.

Really beautiful castle. We went for the night opening but wasn’t allowed to walk around other than the main floor. Which is pretty sad! The place has odd opening hours so be careful if you want a complete tour or visit.

Enjoyed wandering inside Castle Luna. Good location, right in town. Courtyard is beautiful! Unfortunately, you cannot go to the top, which I am sure would have a beautiful view of Rota.

Restaurante El Embarcadero is a fantastic establishment with a commendable staff who cater to their customers' needs. Although communication may be challenging for English speakers due to the predominantly Spanish-speaking waiters and waitresses, the food offered here is superb. The beef bites, fries, and peppers are especially noteworthy and leave diners feeling extremely satisfied. This meal can be described as outstanding and rejuvenating.
This seafood place is a nice gem in Rota Spain. I believe they had other dishes too but I went for the seafood. It is near the main marina. The food was amazing the staff was amazing service was great. The only thing missing was a sea view. Two thumbs up 👍🏾👍🏾

I loved the location of the restaurant and was initially pleased to get a table on a Friday evening. Our food order was taken promptly by a surly waiter. It was then our problems started. Our food was hastily dumped at our table and after that we were not checked on nor could get anybody’s attention. We would have liked some sauces for the calimari. The fish and chips looked like a childrens meal and the prawn salad only had 5 small prawns in it (not king prawns as stated on menu). At no point were we asked if everything was ok or if we required more drinks. Getting the bill was interesting we signalled a passing waitress who did not acknowledge us. A little later she asked another member of staff for our bill, dumped it on our table and sped off. We waited for a card machine to be brought but that didn’t happen so had to go to the bar to pay. The reason I gave 2 stars was because the food wasn’t bad just the service was awful.
Jacqueline Edwards — Google review
Food portions were on the small side. There were only 4 small prawns in my prawn salad & the mangos were mushy (over ripe). My husband’s udon noodles with tuna had seven bites of tuna and the noodles were not all that flavorful. Service was quick and our waitress was friendly enough. Location is neat as it’s right on the corner, so many people are walking by. Unfortunately, it’s adjacent to a street so if you’re eating alfresco you have to deal with fumes. Parking is easy as there’s free parking off-season at the marina.
Kat Fred — Google review
I really liked both the restaurant ambiance/location and the dishes I tried. Clean taste, fresh ingredients, polite service. The 4 star rating would be 5 if the king prawns offered in the menu were king prawns and not normal size prawns

The service was very good, but we were disappointed with the paella which two of us shared. I ordered it a few years ago (pre-covid) and it was absolutely delicious with plenty of seafood. I actually took the remainder all the way back to Houston, heated it up, and it was fine! This time they had cut way back on the seafood. Id much rather pay a little more and have more seafood than SO much rice. Another night I had sea bass out on their patio and it was good. (Photo)

I’ve dined her several times and always have a good meal, my favorite is the Octopus, always soft & buttery. Good wines, good service. In & outside terrace dining, accessible restrooms.

Great service! Excellent staff that tends to the customers needs. A little bit tough being an English speaker as most of the waiters/waitresses speak only Spanish. But other than that the food here is excellent. I will try to upload images of some of the meals that I ordered. But I was very VERY satisfied with the beef bites, fries and peppers. Really killer meal and I walked away feeling like a new man. Keep up the good work guys cause you have a regular customer out of me. Also try out the vinegar with the bread, it really is delicious as well! Edit: I figured out how to upload the photos. The image with the fries and beef bites was a 1/2 portion, but more than enough for a medium sized male. Also I think it costed around 10€ so not too steep either in price.

Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la O is a well-maintained church located in the Plaza del Cabildo, making it a prominent feature of the historic center. The exterior resembles a castle and features beautiful chapels, including one with a painted dome and tiled walls. Inside, visitors can explore several chapels dedicated to figures such as the Virgin of the Rosary and experience the beauty of its architecture firsthand.
This is one of the most beautiful churches I have ever been in! The architecture is beautiful and the 5 chapels inside are all breathtaking. Pictures will never show the beauty, you have to experience it in person. The priest gave a special blessing to my son 🥺❤️ So sweet 🙌

Rota Lighthouse, standing at 27 meters tall, is a prominent structure located between Costilla beach and the city port. It replaced the old lighthouse from 1850 and offers a picturesque spot for photography by the sea. During a holiday outing with a 5-year-old girl, we visited Azúcar de Cuba Beach Bar without prior reservations. Although we had to wait for the kitchen to open, the friendly and attractive server recommended some delicious dishes. The food was excellent, and the cocktails were even more impressive. I highly recommend this restaurant to both friends and family. Among five bars/restaurants, Azúcar de Cuba Beach Bar was the only place that served Long Island drinks. Their salmon dish was incredibly tasty.
The only place of the five bars/restaurants that would make me a Long Island. Had the salmon and it was delicious. The service was quick and very accommodating to this non-native speaker. And my goodness, you can’t beat the views!

I was in the mood for supreme salmon, but opted for an off menu dish. Azucar de Cuba has never let me down. Tonight I had the Wok de Salmon. It was absolutely delicious. No doubt, Azucar Cuba is my favorite restaurant in Rota Spain. Walking the beach mid day, no problem, stop at Azucar de Cuba for one of their many delicious appetizers and a glass of wine or beer! The dining experience at Casa Emilio de Rota was delightful, with exquisite cuisine and a charming ambiance. While the presence of fruit flies was a minor drawback, it could be easily overlooked due to the open-air setting of the restaurant. The seafood dishes, such as fish and clams, were exceptionally fresh and delicious. Additionally, patrons enjoyed the soothing sounds of jazz music playing in the background. The staff members were friendly and accommodating which added to the overall positive atmosphere.

Outrageous prices! The food was good and the waiter really nice but we made the mistake of ordering grilled squid, for which no price was listed. It comes out that it’s 50 Euro per kilo, so we paid 50 Euro just for the squids (two portions). This is definitely overpriced, considering the type of fish and the very informal atmosphere of the restaurant, with the kitchen open towards the dining room, and obvious smell coming from it.
Riccardo — Google review
My review is long overdue. I've eaten here many times last year. Even though there was a misunderstanding one time because of a language barrier. We didn't know how to say "para llevar" and assumed that the waiter knew we wanted to do takeaway for the rest of our gamba tortillitas. It was delicious! He didn't ask us to confirm this and threw it in the trash. But we spoke to a younger guy who spoke a little English and he finally understood with the help of google translate. He was so nice and made up for it but I still feel sad about the yummy tortillitas that got dumped. I am sorry if grandma was shouting because she was insulted by the misunderstanding.

🙏🏼. (Translated by Google) By far one of my favorite restaurants in Rota España. This is a very nice, intimate and well decorated restaurant with many delicious and tasty food options. As well as many delicious drinks and cocktail options. Oh, don't forget dessert. It's to die for. I highly recommend the pork cheeks with buttery mashed potatoes. The sauce and meat just melted in your mouth and I had to go back for more. I have also had their salads which are very fresh, as well as their desserts. I had the carrot cake, such a delicious thing, our favorite server is Jenny from Columbia. She is attentive and efficient and complements the chef, who is also very passionate about his food, as the first time I came here, he came out to explain the dish to me and how he had just topped it with freshly cut provincial herbs. I highly recommend this place, make reservations if you are a larger group as this place tends to get busy. In a very nice area of Rota with beautiful views. 🙏🏼.

Very nice atmosphere. The staffs were good. Fast and kind. Very fluent in English too. Foods were okay. Not bad but not great for the price. We ordered three dishes and croque toast was quite good. But drinks wasnt good. Orange crush didnt taste like orange but strong liquor. Sparkling Rosado didnt sparkle because it was being opened too long. I didnt make any complaint about it, but if it doesnt make "any" bubbles... other places I've been to opened new bottle. It tasted good at least. Just not bubbly at all🥲 And tinto de verano had weird bitter taste at the end. I think it is from ice that made from tap water. (Sorry if i am wrong) I am a bit sensitive and could taste lime water very well even after filtered. And it tasted like very thick lime water. Yet, i liked this place overall so only took 1 star out.

the place is super nice, nice price, but need to wait more than 30 mnts til the food is served. I took thai salad for 12 € and it was so good with 5 big shrimps. My husband took meatballs tomato sauce for 8 €, and it was a full plate and taste so good. All worth it with the price.

This place is phenomenal! Nothing to ever complain about, the staff takes a personal interest in your experience there and I've honestly never felt more welcomed in a restaurant. The food is also fantastic, everything is fresh!

Very helpful staff and accommodated for kids bringing out a corn hole for them. The blue mimosa was gorgeous and delicious. The sweet and savory chicken and waffles had real chicken, which I'm sorry to say is hard to find normally. The Irish coffee was very Irish -hats off and many thanks. Every dish was delicious. A definite repeat.

For such a small town, this place sticks out but for all the right reasons. They cater to both English and Spanish speaking guests. Provide absolutely fair pricing on all if their items. Serve quality food items, and great espresso drinks as well. I've only gone a couple of times, but it has become a staple during my trip. Finding somewhere reliable for any meal of the day is hard, but this place seems to have pulled it off. Kudos to the owners.

Slice Of New York Pizza Rota is a popular spot with fantastic food and good service. They offer a variety of delicious pizzas, flavorful daiquiris, margaritas, Belgian fries, and garlic knots. The option to split toppings on pizzas is available. The place provides both indoor and outdoor seating with the opportunity to people-watch while enjoying your meal. The English-speaking staff are friendly and efficient.
Great wings. Not exactly NYC style pizza but still very good.

Absolutely LOVE this place and it is our go-to in a pinch. The service is good (by Spanish standards) but the food is fantastic! The pizza is very delicious and the drinks are tasty as well. They have many flavors of daiquiris and margaritas. Their Belgian fries are to die for! The garlic knots are also very good. They can even split toppings if you want your pizza half and half. You can either sit inside or outside and watch the Vistahermosa foot traffic. I always look forward to eating here.

Easily the best Pizza in Rota. The five cheese pizza is my favorite and the fries are really good as well. You can call in for delivery or order online from Just Eat.

Every time I come here, the food is great, and the hospitality is stellar! Definitely try the drinks and of course the pizza, if you don’t believe me, I’m a New Yorker, and I had to try it for namesake. Ask them about the specials you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Pizza was not cooked well, still raw. To give you an idea, Pizza Villa made it better. A bit of disappointment, maybe it was just that day . Staff is friendly.

Excellent wings, ribs and pizza were perfectly tasty and at a reasonable price -- service was super friendly too!

Pizza was great. Gets very busy though.

The chicken wings that they serve in this restaurant is disgusting. They serve the wings without taking out the feathers on the chicken. I told to the waiter but they just coated more with the sauce.

I haven’t tried the pizza here but in El Puerto Slice is good. The wings are good but the garlic knots and cinnamon buns were a huge disappointment. Only about 5 small knots, a bit burnt and the buns were a total joke. Never seen anything that tiny! Burnt and hard too. Real shame, not sure if something went wrong with the dough but that’s not ok to serve something like that and charge full price. Maybe just an unlucky day or the service in El Puerto is better but it has put me off a bit. I hope it can improve.

Fresh pizza and super friendly English speaking service staff. We didn’t have to wait long and i recommend to try the veggie delight pizza if you are in the mood for some vegetarian food! The pizzas are not overloaded with the fillings and had a good amount of cheese. We had the 35cm pizza (2 people) because we weren’t that hungry. But the 50cm would be ideal if you are starving but sharing. Please try the brownie! It’s sooo good! Oooie gooie perfection! Served warm with ice cream and chocolate syrup!

This is the closest local pizza shop I've found to american style pizza. The owner is from the US and has put a lot of work into his establishment to give everyone a real awsome experience. Service was great and food was 🔥 Hot! Love it. The Garlic knots and wings are delicious as well. About the only thing our group didn't like was the Hawaiian pizza and not just because pineapple..lol. There was pizza by the slice if your on the go or sit and relax with a cold beer.
