Top restaurant! Highly recommended, but book in time! Also great vegetarian, vegan and glutenfree options!
O Barradas is a popular modern Portuguese restaurant, just off the A22, between Lagoa and Silves. 30 minutes from our house in Almancil.
They should get a Michelin Bib Gourmand for their perfect food at an affordable price. One of the Algarve's best hidden gems!
The restaurant looks very small, like a small old house, so I drove right past it. After about 100 meters I wanted to turn around, but there turned out to be the parking lot, and also the entrance to the beautiful garden restaurant with old trees.
Later, the owner, Luis Pequeno, who started the restaurant 30 years ago, together with his wife Andrea, said that he created the garden himself at the time. That they were all small trees then, which are now the huge trees.
It is wonderful to eat the restaurant garden. You are sheltered, and still have a little wind.
The owner's passion has brought him success. Even on a Monday and Tuesday evening it is fully booked. People who have not booked will be turned away.. The parking lot is full, with a striking number of Range Rovers..
The serving team is fun, cheerful, and attuned to each other. The regular guests are recognized and greeted with a kiss. It almost feels like a big family here.
For a relatively small restaurant, they have an extensive menu, with lots of fish, but also no fewer than 6 vegetarian/vegan dishes! And lots of gluten free options!
Main dishes from 15 euros.
I start with a nice cool white Barradas wine, on this warm summer evening.
After the couvert, I get a delicious colorful avocado salad.
The main course that follows has been recommended to me by the owner, because it is "fantastic". And he is right.. A nice casserole with vegetables, potato, almonds, and sauce. Vegan casserole, no idea what to expect but this is DIVINE!! Even the local cat comes begging me for a vegan snack.. haha
For dessert my favorite dessert, Crepe Suzette, with tangerine sorbet ice cream! Flambéed at the table by the owner himself. Where do you still find that? Fantastic.
I love good food, and enjoy fine dining. But you don't want that every day. You can eat the food you get here every day. It's better than home (despite my wife and I being very good cooks). And meanwhile you feel at home here. Top restaurant!
Highly recommended, but book in time!
PS the portions they serve are big. So I get my delicious main course home, packed in a nice container for 30 cents!
