Bar & grill
Restaurante Idoia is a popular contemporary eatery that offers a warm ambiance and specializes in serving local seafood, creative tapas, and fine wines. Customers rave about the amazing food, excellent service, and inviting atmosphere. Some of their notable dishes include burrata salad, grilled octopus, cheesecakes for dessert. The main courses are visually appealing but were enjoyed so much that customers forgot to take pictures.
Unfortunately we went when the kitchen was closed and we only tasted the tapas, which are great. Good coffee. They also speak English.

If you find yourself wandering along the rugged coast of Zumaia in the Basque Country, seeking respite from the crashing waves and salty breeze, you might stumble upon Idoia, a pincho bar nestled against the sea. Now, I must confess, dear readers, that I approached this establishment with the optimism of a hungry traveler, eager to sample the culinary delights of the region and the sea. Alas, what awaited me inside was a rather lackluster affair. The pinchos on offer, though abundant in variety, failed to leave any lasting impression on my palate. They were, in essence, forgettable. However, amidst the sea of mediocrity, one beacon of light emerged – Pili, the waitress. Her warmth and charm, coupled with her intriguing facial piercings, provided a glimmer of hope in an otherwise uninspiring setting. Now, let's address the curious case of the lunch menu debacle. As fate would have it, I arrived fashionably late at 3:30, only to be informed that lunch service had concluded. Yet, to my bewilderment, a German couple sauntered in mere minutes after me and were promptly served from said lunch menu. Was it my disheveled appearance, adorned in tight bike attire, that led the staff to assume I couldn't afford their fare? One can only speculate. In the spirit of fairness, I am inclined to give Idoia the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps, on a future visit, I shall endeavor to arrive punctually for lunch, eager to uncover the hidden gems that may lie beyond the realm of their standard pinchos. Until then, dear readers, the jury remains out on this seaside establishment.

We love this place! The food is so good 👌🏻 We had croquettes Iberico, pulpo à la plancha, green peppers tempura, some pinxtos and really good coffee with Hierbas. Also they have lot of good wines, cava and beers. The staff is also very friendly. Therefore we can definitely recommend this restaurant.

We've seen this restaurant two years ago. But it was late afternoon and we already had lunch. Thought whenever we come back to Northern Spain we'll give it a try. Looked great and full with locals, a good sign. This year finally we managed it. Came to Zumaia especially for this Tapas Bar. It was busy, but after the first few plates we managed to get a table outside. Our Bulldog was welcome as well. There are full plates and menus. But we focussed on the delicious tapas and raciones. And there are plenty to choose from - and all divine. We had baked scallops, sea urchin, tapa with tuna and anchovies, fresh and crispy fried calamari, tapa with crab meat, tapa with sardines. And our favourite: hot Foie Gras. We've had four of them. A masterpiece with high quality Foie. A bunch of white wines. Fruity, fresh, crisp. And very fair - even low - priced. We ate a lot. Just couldn't stop. It was just all so tasty. A fantastic Tapas Bar. One of the very best there is. Yes, it's a busy place and takes a bit of luck and persistence to make your way through the crowds to order at the bar. But that's part of the experience. And well worth it. Definitely will be back here.

Great restaurant! I suggest you to go for the “Plato del dia” (dish of the day). We went for the waiter recommendations and we couldn’t be happier (just look at the pictures, fresh produce and good prices). Service was really friendly too. Thanks Idoia!

Great place with amazing food, service and atmosphere. We had burrata salad, grilled octopus and cheesecakes for dessert. Main dishes looked so good we forgot to take pictures haha. We said “mmm” and “wow” like 10 times when eating salad and octopus 😁. Deserts were also amazing together with the taste of tea and coffee. Bravo to the chef and the Idoia team 👏🏼

One of the best Ensalada mixtas we've ever had. Great ingredients and nicely prepared. Also had Gambas a la Plancha, very fresh and tasty, dripping in oil and garlic and salt. Rico, rico, rico.

Excellently prepared food for a good value. Service was quick, no complaints. Dogs allowed outdoors. I especially liked the fried squid rings 🤩, the cod and the tender sirloin. Large glasses of drinks as well.

You know, Spain has its own timing when one eats warm food and when only sandwiches…I was so lucky to reserve the food remotely via phone, so that upon arrival there was warm and incredibly tasty meal. These folks know how to cook & know the service.

The view may not be the most attractive, but the cuisine is truly impressive. The dishes are absolutely delicious and left a lasting impression. It would be wonderful to have more of these delightful culinary experiences in the future. The seafood, prepared in a Basque style, is particularly noteworthy for its freshness and quality. The hostesses are attentive and make sure all needs are met without any alcohol being served with the food.
Nice and fresh seafood basque style. Attentive hostesses. Alcohol free food.

(Translated by Google) It seemed like a good place based on the reviews it has, but the experience was a disaster. When asking for a table, the owner told us, with several empty tables on the terrace, that she believed there would be a minimum 1-hour wait. Immediately afterwards, the waitress arrived and sat us at a free table. We ordered set menus for €15, which should cost €10 for what they are. In the lasagna we found a piece of paper, we mentioned it to the waitress but there was no reaction. The pasta was overcooked and flooded with Solís tomato. The second chicken was correct. The final custard was not cold and its texture was not very pleasant and the rice pudding was not at its best either. We weren't expecting a great meal but a minimum with such simple dishes, yes, really.

(Translated by Google) We ate very comfortably in this place. We ordered crab salad, grilled shrimp and croquettes. All very rich. For the second we had ribeye which was very good, the meat was meltingly tender but I still have the doubt if it was grilled or gas/stone grilled because of the flavour. Fabulous cheesecake. To come back.

The lunch at Restaurante Asador Bedua in Zumaia, Basque country, was absolutely outstanding. This place exemplifies the renowned culinary heritage of the region. Although we initially sought out their delicious grilled crab dish known as txangurro, we were pleasantly surprised by the wide array of other delectable options available. Their fried milk and bread desserts are particularly noteworthy for their exceptional taste. Furthermore, they graciously allowed us to enjoy our meal on their terrace with our dog.
Absolutely best lunch in our whole trip. Basque country is known for its amazing food and this place could easily be the resemblance of it! We were looking for a txangurro (grill crab) and got so so much more then just it! Try their fried milk or bread deserts, so tasty! We were welcome to stay at the terrace with our dog. Special thank you to Margarita, she made our day and made sure we enjoy the lunch to the fullest.

Bad restaurant!!!!! HIgh price. We got low quality food. The fish was with bones inside, crab with Naylon, plastic in the soup. 145 € For a small dish that was poorly made. Dirt in the starters that can break teaths. I'm very disappointed and will never recommend this restaurant.
Jehudit Aharon — Google review
Me and my family went there a few days ago. We were very disapointed from the quality of the food. We got sand in the omlets, plastic in the fish soup, naylon on the crab shell and bones in the fish fillet. We orderd the baby eel dish that was very small and poorly made. We paid 400€ for the hole meal and we were 5 people. I would never come back and never recommend this restourant. Although the view is fantastic.

After a day on the path of Flysch we were really hungry but had no idea where to go, so I resorted back to my main tool: ‘asking the locals’; this time at a gas station, the lady behind the cashier was unambiguously clear: Asador Bedua. In her words: „super bueno pero super caro“ (super good but super expensive). In spite of the ‘super expensive’ we decided to check it out. The place wasn’t easy to find but it was a beautiful setting, the restaurant was rustic-style and apart from a French guest and his daughter completely empty. Not only the building but but also the waitress and the food was rather archaic as we learned once we decided to stay. All in all the lady from the gas station was definitely right! The recipes were simple without complications, more a ‘back to the good taste of the essence’ type of concept without frills. According to the waitress all raw material came from their own vegetable garden, stable & barns or as their own fishing catch. I am definitely coming back (if I can afford it).

Great location for both inside and outside seating. Service very good. Both fish and meat dishes from the BBQ grill were excellent, full of if flavour. Fish fresh and flavourful, steak 🥩 (especially the Tbone) succulent and tasty. A very pleasant relaxing lunch.
Derek Small — Google review
Be ready to pay a lot for the food and only get medium to small portions. The fish soup was delicious however the peppers were overly salted and the crab stew too sweet, nothing that a little lemon stolen from the clams couldn't fix, but for the price you're paying you'd expect perfection. We may have also gone for the wrong dish as most of the locals were eating the chuleton, it is beautifully placed though.

Beautiful dining room with a warm country feel. The dishes were creative and delicious. Barnacles were fun the spider crab was delicious. Turbot was fresh. The waiter was very patient with us to explain all the dishes and made recommendations that were perfect. Add to the list of must visits when near Getaria.
