Fortress
Located on a hill near Nikšić, Bedem Fortress was constructed by the Turks on the remains of an ancient Roman military fortification known as Onogost. The fortress features six towers positioned at its corners and houses the oldest part, Castel, in its center. Originally built by Ottomans atop the ruins of a Romanic Gothic cathedral, this site is now recognized as a state-protected national historical monument with significant cultural value.
Great view of the city. No admission fee. There is very little information about the history of the place. Fun to explore if you like climbing. Many parking spots for cars, not many people visiting.
Estelle Miller — Google review
Entrance is free as well as parking. There were a dozen people including three of us on Wednesday afternoon in July. 360º beautiful view of the city and surroundings. A very peaceful place to come stretch your legs after lunch. Unfortunately the fortress is poorly maintained. You can see that from afar just by looking at torn up flags. Some parts are not accessible because of bushes and unrestored ruins. Take good care of your small kids because they could fall from several parts of the fortress. I still recommend visiting this landmark to anyone coming to Nikšić.
Dusko Lalovic — Google review
Free to visit. Looked abandoned even on a weekend, there was not a single soul except for us in this place. Feels not really like a tourist attraction but like an empty building where teens brink beer from time to time.

Krupac Lake is a charming artificial lake located just a short drive from the town center, initially created for electricity production. The lake offers clean water and stunning views of the nearby mountains, making it an ideal spot for activities such as swimming, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. Additionally, visitors can enjoy bird-watching, cycling, walking, meditating, camping, and picnicking in the serene natural surroundings.
Surprisingly good lake for kayaking (no kayak rentals though), with clean water and nice view of the mountains close to Niksic. Only a little bit more than 1 hour from Durmitor, which makes it a perfect destination if the weather is bad up there.

Restaurant
Manitovac is a picturesque restaurant located just 1.5 km from the city center, nestled on the banks of river Zeta. It's not just a place for travelers to take a break; it has also transformed into one of Montenegro's most beautiful picnic spots, boasting a sprawling 15,000 square feet cafe park. The restaurant offers a peaceful setting in parkland with petting animals and a children's play area.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing! Super quiet and friendly staff. Food was incredible and for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend stopping here and admiring nature at its finest!
Magdalena Acevedo Diaz — Google review
Huge outdoor area near the river with a playground and contact zoo, it's a great place for families with kids. However, the service is really slow (we were waiting for our lunch for 40 minutes). So, if you want just to stop by for a quick lunch, this place probably won't be the perfect place. Also, it seemed to us that they treat foreigners worse than locals even if visitors speak the local language (slower service, less attention). The food is OK but nothing special. There was no soap in the toilet room.
Ekaterina Vorobets — Google review
Cafe and restaurant has a very welcoming and laid back ambience right in the middle of small park and next to the river. It’s a perfect place for a coffee with some dessert. We had our lunch here. Food was rather average when it comes to taste (steak and lamb chops). Also, waiting time was quite long. Would recommend this place for a stop to have coffee or other drinks rather than proper meal.
Bartosz Brozek — Google review
Nice place by the river and cheap. But the service is a little slow. You can wait, even there is not a lot of people

This oasis of peace, as they call it, will enchant you with its vast green areas stretching over 15.000 m2 creating a view over a beautiful 25m long stone bridge. A mini zoo and restaurants attract families with children, but also individuals, youth and all those looking to escape the noise of the city.

This restaurant has a very peaceful setting in park land with "petting" animals and a children's play area. Dining available outside and inside a rustic cabin. I am a frequent visitor to this lovely country but my first time in this area, guided, as usual, by my local friends. I have to say that my food - "Lamb under the bell"- was the best I had on this latest visit, the prices are very reasonable and the waitress was lovely, spoke good English and was great fun.

Great place for a rest and nice food. You have a big park for kids to play and river Zeta is passing by the terrace

Beautiful place by the river and lovely nature with the playground for kids. Food is tasty and service is pretty good but extremely slow.
Aleksandar Aco — Google review
If you consider taking meat-mix plate for two- don't do it, it's a portion for 3-4 people 😂 food very delicious, nicely prepared and served. The disadvantage is that there were no traditional dishes available despite the fact, that they are in menu (cicvara, kačamak) and also no black tea. On the photo mixed meat "Manitovac"

Bridge
The Carev Most, a magnificent stone bridge constructed in 1896, is located near the city of Niksic. This beautiful and historically significant bridge is worth visiting due to its impressive length and rich history. Commissioned by King Nikola, it was designed by Croatian architect Josip Slade as part of the urban development plan for Niksic. The Carev Most stands as a testament to the transformation of this Ottoman hamlet into a modern urban settlement during that time period.
Sensational bridge a 5km walk from the centre of Niksic. Nice straight and flat easy walk and the prize at the end of this is absolutely out if this world. I am so pleased I made that little effort and in fact went for an early train from Podgorica so as to have the time to see this beautiful work of engineering and art.

We got a little bit turned-around on the way but met a nice local who helped us. It's worth the visit to see an impressively long stone bridge with some historical significance.

Restaurant
At first glance, Restaurant Merak may seem like a simple establishment, but don't be fooled. The meals offered here are incredibly delicious, and the service provided is genuinely helpful. You'll find an English-speaking waitress who can assist you in selecting from the menu. The dishes are cooked with great skill and care, leaving you with a positive impression after your meal. The quality of the food is excellent for its price point.

Food is the worst! I ordered a takeout. Stuffed peppers and meat with potatoes. What I got is two tiny stuffed peppers and thee third one was empty😂 everything with two much sauce that looks like vomit. All of that for a price that is not cheap.. Not anymore even though they have that reputation.

The lady was nice. Unfortunately it was not the best place for the four of us in Niksic. We all ordered fish with side dishes - the fries were not edible at all, potato salad as well. The fish was okish although one of us had gastric problems after the meal. We counted on a better meal. :(

For an unforgettable dining experience, visit Konoba Portun. This restaurant is highly regarded by guests and considered one of the top eateries in Montenegro. The food is delectable, and the service is exceptional. Situated in a discreet and tranquil passageway, it offers a perfect retreat for those seeking serenity after a long journey. The proprietor is known for his kindness and generosity, while his daughter impresses with her graciousness and proficiency in English.
The building, the staff and the food we’re amongst the best we’ve experienced in Montenegro. Their ‘dried fruit pie’ is a must for desert. Regional dishes cooked with soul. Yet another reason to return to Montenegro. Enjoy!

It wasn't bad, but not so special. The pasta in the goulash was reheated sadly...maybe the goulash also. But the price is cheap I guess. I didn't like that the owner\staff was smoking inside.

The food was absolutely beautiful and at such a reasonable price. Sonja was incredibly nice and welcoming. While the restaurant is tucked away behind a side street it is absolutely worth trying to find and visit. Very homely and wholesome.

Hidden place into the block. Fluently English speaking lady (I think she is owner) shared all details about meals and provided great service. - Two fishes in portion (with garlic oil - awesome!) - two juicy pork steaks - pure fresh juice with water for mix it. (I saw it only first time) And prices were nice! Highly recommend!

The restaurant is located in a discrete and quiet passage, it was perfect for my mother who needed some calm after a long journey. The owner is a kind and generous man and his daughter was very gracious and helpful, she speaks an excellent English. In my opinion, it is the best place in town and I hope to be back there one day.

This place is a must when visiting Niksic. We found this place via trip advisor and we're so happy we did! It's a hidden gem just off the main street close to the square in the town center. Worth noting we are English by the way! This restaurant has a rustic, authentic, traditional atmosphere with great service and delicious food! The waitress reccomended both dinner and wine options and shared great reccomendations for local places to visit! We will 100% be coming back before our trip ends! ✅ Great service ✅ Delicious freshly cooked food (I reccomend the trout, so fresh and the fish fell off the bone!) ✅ Amazing value for money ✅Niksic hidden gem! UPDATE: We visited for a second time and had salmon with stew veg and Gurmanska pljeskavica (gourmet burger, minced meat with bacon and cheese) which are both traditional dishes - and both delicious. The waitress Sonja (unsure of spelling) was again, fantastic and explained out how all their food is, where possible, sourced locally and organically from their farm and local fishermen and villages further north. You MUST visit this little hidden gem just off the main street, don't be alarmed by the underwelming alley way entrance, inside is beautiful and the food is the best we have discovered in the city!

Nasa Konoba is a highway restaurant known for its delicious and plentiful food. Despite some mixed reviews about the staff, many visitors find the freshly prepared dishes surprisingly good and worth the price. The kebabs are particularly recommended by patrons.

(Translated by Google) Convenient location of the restaurant on the road, which is a plus. I did not like the service of the waiter, was a little inattentive and not very friendly. The men in the restaurant smoked and it was unpleasant to wait for your order in an unpleasant smoky room ((( Ordered soup and french fries here.
