Brienz

Brienz is a village on the northeast shore of Lake Brienz, in Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland region. The village's 18th-century wooden chalets and the sculptures dotted throughout the village are testimonials to a woodcarving tradition. North, a steam train runs up Brienzer Rothorn Mountain, with views of the lake and surrounding Alps. East of Brienz, the Ballenberg Open Air Museum offers glimpses of rural life.

Wow very delicious ~~~~ but very super big potion

My reason for the 4 stars is that, on a beautiful day with not so many tourists, we had a very good meal and the service too was very good. The outdoor seating was just perfect with the view right next to the aqua green Brienz lake.

I went to this restaurant and they are very slow serving the food. It took 15 min to get the drinks, 45 min to receive the first starter (soup) and it was a wrong order. After 1:30h waiting for our food and tired of asking the waitress, we decided to leave. I have to say that there was no more than 5 tables occupied at that time. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE.

During our road-trip we arrived to Brinez, and we stopped out at the restaurant for a lunch. It was a great stop and good food for lunch by the amazing lake! The staff is very kind, and overall we had a nice meal with amazing view Thanks

One of the few places open in Brienz on the October day we visited. Nice and sunny terrace, good service, big portions and tasty food. Reasonably priced for Switzerland. Beautiful view of the lake.

An excellent stop with an astonishing view of the Turk blue Lake Brienz while riding around the lake. The coffee was delicious, served with hot cups and great foamy milk.

We enjoyed a beautiful lunch here of cheese fondue and white wine. The view is amazing, the atmosphere peaceful and the service was really good. Our waiter was friendly and attentive and helpful with the menu. We will absolutely come back again when we have the chance!

I have never tasted anything as disgusting as what I had at this restaurant. DO NOT EAT THERE. I ordered a fish with a side of potatoes, the fish was purely drowned in oil and extremely greasy with no flavoring whatsoever. The potatoes weren’t throughly cooked, and tasted old and disgusting. I felt extremely nauseous after and ended up throwing up from the poor quality of this food. On top of that the tableware was dirty and so were the plates. The food here was repulsive and gave me food poisoning. Upsetting that any restaurant would even consider serving food of this quality to their customers.

Short stay only (one night). We had a room with direct entrance to the lake promenade 🏞. The room and bathroom were partially renovated, everything was perfectly clean. Simple but cosy. Friendly staff, buffet breakfast was good (the offer could also include some vegetables).

The Hotel Lindenhof is a beautiful, relaxed chalet-style hotel situated in a peaceful and quiet town in the Alps. The staff are kind and welcoming, and the breakfast is deliciously delicious. The view from the hotel's balcony is amazing, and it's perfect for people who want to get away from it all.
The room had a stunning view on the lake. The breakfast was good. The parking can be a little limited and the bed could be better (bigger, with sheets). Overall a very good experience.

I loved this place, the views are amazing, the food was delicious, the rooms are nice and the location is perfect! I really feel that is s good place to spend a weekend! Only down side is that the room was a little dark, but nothing too bad. I would come back

Man how do I even start! I got first of all an upgrade which gave me a direct view of the lake and the mountians! Stunning! I love the design details in the hotel! The bath was a very nice addition as well! And great service by the 2 woman that were there allowing me to get in early as well! And the guy later in the evening with good food tips because their restaurant is currently closed. Sadly too busy for parking so went with the standard pizza ^^ Thank you for the warm welcome, service and amazing views!!

Beautiful hotel with a great view and friendly welcoming staff! The breakfast was yummy! The hotel is located at a very peaceful and quiet town. There is a sauna and you will have to get the staff to set it up for you. We got the venus suite and there is an automatic bed with controls so you can move it to the balcony while lying on it and enjoy the great scenic view of Brienz!

Very nice and cozy hotel. Unusual "homelike" style with a lot of wood and stone. Breakfast is good. The price is very reasonable, comparing to other accomodations. 👍
Boris Boyko — Google review
Room size is acceptable, bed is comfortable. No safety box, no phone to call reception or house keeping. Service is good.Breakfast is excellent 👌. Free parking is available. The view is outstanding. No air conditioning in rooms and they don't afford fans, rooms are warm and you can't open the windows as no insects shield. The restaurant is very good 👍. Room cleaning is not good at all, we left a towel on the chair, they didn't remove it for two days

We booked the wellness room that came with a hot tub. The hot tub was prefilled but did not feel very clean. Secondly the room had an interesting interior but many aspects of the features was not working. For example, we had a bed that could turn, but it did not work anymore. Not a big deal but still did not leave a nice impression to have things in a room that were broken. Other than that, the amenities provided were minimal. For this price and for a wellness room I did expect a bit more in terms on amenities, amount of towels. There were no bath slippers either, which would have been nice to get in and out of the tub. The tub also lacked a manual so we had to figure it out a bit ourselves. All in all its a nice place, but for the price definitely not worth it.
Julie Foppes — Google review
I can highly recommend the restaurant. If weather is nice you'll enjoy the beautiful view over lake and mountains. The delicious food is nicely served. Everything was perfectly made, from the salmon, to the tomato soup, gnocchi, and the slowly smoked beef skirt. All dishes were very tasty with a little twist of "something" like spices or smoke. The range of wine is not really big or famous but the list offers wines from almost all wine regions (wine prices are very moderate compared to other places). The staff is friendly and attentive even though they had quite a lot of guests to serve.

The hotel was wonderful. One of the best hotels we stayed. First for the room: We opted for the superior double with balcony. Wonderful clean room. Amazing view of the lake and mountain. Made special decorations as I let them know about our special day. The heating was good. Even room itself was big and enjoyed the in-room flower bath tub which was amazing. Service: Whatever required reached to us right on time in room. The reception desk guy was really amazing and very much well behaved. Can clearly communicate in English. Food: We missed the dinner though but breakfast was good. Normal europian breakfast with cold cuts , lots of bread options, juice and drink options were there yes and obviously the egg. Both scrambled and boiled. Location: Near Brienz station which is nearly half and hour from Interlaken OST. The hotel is on bit high land so the 15-20 mins walk may give pain in the night but on request hotel provides free pick and drop from rail station.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Lindenhof hotel in Brienz and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is located in a beautiful setting, with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Brienz. The welcome at reception was warm and friendly, and I was immediately impressed by the cleanliness and presentation of the hotel. My room was spacious and comfortable, with modern amenities such as a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi access. I particularly enjoyed the private balcony which offered stunning views of the lake and mountains. The bed was comfortable and I was able to sleep peacefully throughout my stay. The breakfast was excellent, with a choice of hot and cold dishes, as well as fresh fruit and bread. The staff was helpful and attentive, ensuring that everything was to my liking. The hotel's location is also excellent, with easy access to local attractions such as Lake Brienz, hiking trails and ski slopes. Parking is easy and convenient, which is a real plus in this area. Overall, I had a great stay at the Lindenhof hotel and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfortable and well-located accommodation in Brienz. The staff is friendly and professional, the rooms are comfortable and well-equipped, and the location is perfect for exploring the area. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again on my next trip to Brienz.

The view from our room was out of this world. The rooms are very dated and could do with a bit of modernising. Seems when we visited Mondays and Tuesdays were days that most places were closed.
Rachael Asprey — Google review
Filled with bugs throughout the room. Zero air conditioning. Mould in the shower. I am surprised a health inspector has not closed this down. Rooms are extremely dated. Curtains are dirty. Breakfast is sub par at best. Had to spend over 30 minutes fighting with the front desk over whether I had paid or not. Luckily, I had screenshots from my credit card statement, whereas they told me I hadn’t paid yet. We all received food poisoning from the breakfast. This was one of the worst, if not the worst stay I have ever had somewhere. Outrageously priced. Did I mention how thin the walls are? The only nice thing here is the location / view. Pitch a tent instead!

Pretty cute hotel, a bit dated but I suppose that’s the charm of it , has lovely views. The food in the restaurant was lovely and good variety

Amazing! The staff is so sweet. And the service is quick and personal. The view of the lake is incredible. The room is nice and clean. The hotpot in some of the rooms is a nice touch! The breakfast was also good. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend hotel Lindenhof and the restaurant!

Bramisegg is a charming and authentic Swiss restaurant located in the midst of nature, accessible via a scenic drive with beautiful views. The rustic decor and warm ambiance create a delightful dining experience, complemented by friendly and welcoming staff. The menu features traditional local dishes such as bratwurst, rosti, pork steak, salad, and cheese fondue that are described as delicious.
What an incredible resteraunt. Absolutely beautiful location, warm and comfortable inside, with fantastic food! Rosti and bratwurst was the best I've ever had. And great value for real Swiss food (also a really nice change from the myriad pizza places in this area). So glad we came across this restaurant.

A beautiful Swiss Restaurant located on the side the mountain face. If you get the window seats you will spend more time admiring the delicious food on your plate.

Amazing location, great food, awesome service. The menu is in German 🇩🇪 only but the waitress took the time to translate it entirely to us. We went in the evening, i bet with daylight it must be even better, great view of the lake.
Simone Rondelli — Google review
It's quite a drive to get here with many hairpin turns, but the view on the drive is beautiful. Once you get to the restaurant, there is a small parking lot across the street. We chose outdoor dining. The view is unmatched. It's absolutely beautiful. They have a full menu of traditional, local food. Everything we had was delicious, and the best meal we had in Switzerland. The staff are kind and friendly. They do have restrooms with (probably)the most gorgeous view. Cannot wait to come again.
Vicki Severn — Google review
The place is an emblem to its authenticity. LOCATION 4/5: Very typical swiss cabin in the middle of the nature. The room is decorated in a rustic way but very delightful. Dining in with soffused light is making the atmosphere even more warm. The only bad note is concern the fact that is not really easily reachable and the road condition is not the best. SERVICE 5/5: The waitress was simple very welcoming and even if we didn't have booked a table she was able to find us a place. She kindly guided us through the menu with a perfect English. She made our esperience even more enjoyable. FOOD 5/5: Simply the best rösti I have ever tried up to now. Packed with flavour, the potatoes were crunchy and perfectly cooked. Local beer simply perfect for the meal.

Location 10/10, food 10/10, customer service 10/10. I cannot recommend this place enough for excellent, authentic, great tasting swiss food with an amazing view. You could tell that the locals went to this place so I am honestly hesitant to write a review so that I don't ruin this place for them but this restaurant deserves to be known. Loved the host and the server.

Cute, cosy, delicious food! Really enjoyed this authentic small mountainside restaurant, the bratwurst + rosti, pork steak + salad and cheese fondue were all amazing and tasty. The staff was lovely and great service as well. Really recommend this place. Not used to driving mountain roads so was a little nervous on the small winding roads but drivers are gracious here and we got there in the end! They have a nice nook to park the car.

Great little place high up on the mountainside. A bit tricky to get to and parking is limited but the food is delicious, reasonably priced and the service very friendly.

Such delicious food and excellent service. Worth the drive up the mountain to eat. The views from the restaurant are worth the drive up the mountain to go eat here. They were the only restaurant open when everyone else was closed on Sunday.

The smell of the room is very bad, and it is all designed on a cow animal. I do not know why and I do not want to know. The hotel in the hotel reservation program indicated that it overlooks the lake and the design of the hotel from the inside is bad. It is not worth the price. I feel disappointed

May be this is first restaurant you will see when you enter Brienz BUT take may advice NEVER GO THEIR. THEY HUMILIAT the non-European PEOPLE. They're Racists and they will take you tour in the apartheid ages by asking you to set in the non-desired tables even if the ones with the good view are empty. The waiter was really rude and totally impolite. Disaster.

This Hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in and I have travelled widely. We were unfortunate to have spent Christmas in this hotel ,no entertainment no bar and some of the staff are lacking in manners. Never again.

The worst restaurant I have been . The staff are really arrogant . We just came in like normal person but I don’t know why they don’t care about our table . They just walk around and let’s us wait 30 min . She stands next to me and even didn’t look at us one time . Never never will pay any penny here again . Bad service.

We spent one night in this traditional hotel well situated in Brienz on the lake front. The hotel is calm and clean. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Could be a bit modernized but at the same time the hotel is charming the way it is 😊

This little Hotel located at Lake Brienz is really nice. I asked the local flower shop to deliver rose leaves and the hotel staff decorated the room. The room was pretty big (for this type of house) The beautiful view over the lake and the mountains and the little terrace was great. Not to mention that the staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful. I can highly recommend this hotel and it's affiliated restaurant "Löwen" just on the other side of the street.
Sandra Roth — Google review
Only went to eat at the restaurant which we passed by. The view was nice, other than that, the meal was beyond overpriced. We ordered 2 dishes and the bill came about to be 80 CHF, our most expensive meal in Switzerland. the most ridiculous part was we were unknowingly charged 3.5 CHF each for extra plates. Seriously? This is the first time I've seen a restaurant so despicable. The price just ruined the view for us.
Darryn Chua — Google review
Situated on the banks of Brienzer see, the restaurant has a niche of its own. The decor is pretty clean, orderly and just right. The food wasnt upto the quality I expected. The potatoes in the Rusti were dripping oil, and hardly had any salt in it. The wurst was cooked okay. The racklette was just fine. We came out feeling not great, not unhappy, stomach full, but something was missing in the food. I would try other places before going back there again.

The hotel Restaurant Wildbach offers rustic accommodations with wooden beams and inviting decor in a chalet-style setting. Guests can enjoy the charming atmosphere and warm hospitality at the bright and elegant Sunnepracht restaurant, which overlooks Lake Thun and the Bernese Alps. This location is truly one of the best places to stay around the world, boasting beautiful surroundings, renovated rooms, delicious cuisine, and a friendly ambiance.
We stayed one week at the hotel Wildbach and were totally happy. Despite the road in front of the hotel during the night it is so quiet, you hear the waterfall across the lake. The room was nice with a big balcony offering a beautiful view on the lake and into the mountains. Food is one of the best in town und to top it all, the host couple and personnel are exceptionally friendly and attentive.

Definitely one of the best places I ever stayed around the world! Beautiful and quite location, renovated rooms, delicious food, friendly and calm atmosphere! Your wouldn’t find a better place to relax and disconnect! The view, the privacy, the silence, the air, the sleep - you can’t ask for more… Rosti with bacon and apple strudel I ate at their restaurant truly deserve 5 star! Eva, Manuel and their team did an incredible job - well done guys! Thanks a lot for your hospitality and see you soon!

Cute rustic hotel on the shores of lake Brienz. We had a beautiful balcony view of the lake from our room. The staff was very polite, the included breakfast was tastey, and our room was clean. The only downside is the distance from town and the train station.

Wonderful hotel that is incredible value for the money. A stones throw away from a beautiful lake with clean balconied rooms over looking it. Very quiet and peaceful and a wonderfully located central base for those looking to do some of Switzerlands more exciting Via Ferrata. Roughly 1.5 hours drive from each of the 5 best routes that Switzerland has to offer (Dauberhorn, Fürenwand, Kandersteg, Mürren and Farinetta). Very friendly and helpful owners and staff and a convenient bathing location in the sky blue lake less than 30m from your doorstep for a post climb swim. Brienz is a short walk away which has supermarkets, bars and restaurants but the hotel restaurant is very good should you wish to stay at home. Ample parking and a peaceful area for those looking to relax. Very clean rooms and attentive cleaning staff coming each day. 5 stars all around! Highly recommended

NEW OWNERSHIP Hotel Wildbach rests on the Northeastern shore of Brienzersee, Southwest of Brienz and looking out across the splendid azure water to the Grandhotel Giessbach. Wildbach is much smaller than the Grandhotel. It boasts far less rooms, does not have it's own cable car nor a crashing waterfall. What it does have though, is the charm of Switzerland and its people, perhaps the greatest part of being in this beautiful country. We took a ferry out of Interlaken on a sunny day, only for it to begin raining as soon as we offloaded in Brienz. The subsequent 20-30 minute walk along the lake and road would have been spectacular, if not for getting drenched. My partner and I were both quite miserable and wet when we arrived at the Wildbach. However, the warmth and excitement with which we were greeted by the owners, Ava and Manuel, quickly turned our day around. They welcomed us inside, asking us about our home country, our travels, and listened with genuine interest (in perfect English, no less). They gave us a tour of the beautiful premises with restaurant, bar, reception, and even told us where they slept in case of emergency. While we never had any issues with previous Swiss hotel staff, Ava was especially delightful and we really enjoyed speaking with her about the area. They were very upfront about the fact that they had only just taken over the hotel and we left honoured that we could be among their first guests. They are wonderful people and I strongly encourage anyone looking for a place to stay around Brienz/Interlaken to make the effort of staying here. The Wildbach has wonderful views of the lake, the Grandhotel (and waterfall), and Brienz (and church). We dined at the restaurant and it was absolutely delicious (the tomato soup was in a jar!). Breakfast was similarly amazing with an assortment of Swiss meats, cheese, and bread (as well as muesli or cereal if not your style). There is also a little jetty with platforms you can jump off to go swimming. If you want the real Swiss hospitality experience, this is the place! I would give them 6 stars if I could.

Extremely unkind stuff. It was look like we hurt waiter’s feelings when we asked a menu. Then he was rude to us. We are absolutely disappointed and hungry:( But if you want someone to kill your vibe on holidays, highly recommend.

We got hostile reception at restaurant hotel wildbach ag brienz Switzerland. as soon as we entered ,we were just treated as we were intruder,(later we knew that gentleman was owner). He asked us what we want,we politely told we want to enjoy cup of tea ,and coffee looking to beautiful view of lake brienzee. Once we were seated he came and asked you can't sit here (and showed us mark for reservation written in swiss language ,which we as tourist didn't understand ) .we were allocated another place, we ordered tea and coffee, when we received bill ,to our surprise separate 3.5 swiss franc was added for very small quantity of hot milk. We asked waiter for why extra charges,he told us he is instructed by order by owner to add extra charges for milk which is generally included in price of Tea or coffee.my personal experience was of getting racist feeling from other side. I feel very bad as tourist¹ ,looking to beautiful brinzee lake and beautiful country Switzerland 🇨🇭. My honest opinion with out any prejudice.thanks.🙏

By coincidence we stopped at this place to have dinner. Staff is very friendly and helpful however the management needs to hire more staff for the kitchen. Although the food is okay it just takes too long until the dishes are being served. Value for the money is not really given as you wait too long for the food.

Stayed for a night. The owner and supervisor are super grumpy, rude and derogatory. I stayed for 1 night out of my 10 night travel to Swiss. Its funny how 1 man with ego could change the spirit of vacation, all other hotels I stayed were pleasure to be at and very welcoming. Hotel has a bad taste of interior although location has good views, but super inconvenient if you are travelling through trains and buses. If I ever I come back to Switzerland(very likely) I will never get into this hotel.
