The Dimbola Lodge is a photographic museum dedicated to the life and work of Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron, as well as that of more contemporary photographers. The museum has both indoor and outdoor seating, and an excellent cafe that's now open.
A very interesting and unusual museum/gallery, especially for amateur photographers to enjoy (dogs are allowed too: very unusual!) The house itself is also fascinating. We couldn't visit the cafe as it was already full!

Nice place to visit and lovely tea room with indoor and outdoor seating.

So much to see, read and digest. Amazing artifacts and history. Lovely people and reasonable entry fee..my second time here. Cafe has best cakes on the IOW

Very cool place if like me you like photography. Great historic creeky building, which was once the home of one of the first ever photographers. Full of historic items, great tea room downstairs. Great choice of food hot and cold. Check it out .

Great cafe, open now Close to the great Tennyson loop walk. Park down at the bay. Indoor and outdoor service

Lovely tearoom, just gorgeous. The staff were so friendly and we felt so at home. Lovely vegan cake and tea in a pot and in China cups, simply delightful

A small (in size rather than content) museum that depicts an interesting period and resident of the Isle of Wight. It'll take roughly an hour or so to go round and there is an interesting section devoted to the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. There's even a great statue of Jimi Hendrix outside. Well worth a visit and combine it with a trip to the excellent tea room. There is limited car parking. As the museum is on more than one floor, I recommend checking wheelchair access with the museum before arrival.

Very interesting. Victorian female photographer and the history of the Isle of Wight music Festival. Good food and smashing ice creams.
Sarah Moore — Google review
Mainly visited to show a friend Jimmy Hendrix in the garden. Out of season so everything seemed quiet with notice stating Bookshop closed. However got the satisfaction of seeing my friend enjoy being close to Hendrix.
Shirley Cooke — Google review
Excellent as always, great food, reasonably priced, friendly staff, lovely setting. Maybe a little wait at busy times but we’ll worth the wait. Please don’t visit West Wight without visiting Dimbola.
Suite Deal — Google review
As someone who who has visited Dimbola many times over the years, I have always enjoyed the exhibitions and warm welcome from the lovely volunteers Today sadly I was greeted by the rudest man, who admitted that he did not want to be there, he refused us entry although the board outside advised that it was still open for another fifty minutes. Not being admitted, despite driving from Ryde to visit, was one thing, but to be spoken to in an abrupt rude way, by a volunteer has tarnished what I feel Dimbola offered, which was a courteous warm welcome, each and every time. Sadly this most definitely not the case today. Advice to the trust, get rid of the man who was on duty on Sunday 2nd July.

The house beloved the renowned Vicotorian photographer, Margaret Cameron, and was saved from demolition and turned into a museum/gallery. You can see a wealth of her famous photographs, which include Lord Alfred Tennyson and many other Victorian notables. At the time of visiting, they also had a photographic exhibition of the Isle of Wight Festival through the ages. Well worth a visit.

Very interesting and well worth a visit. Great tearoom too!

Fascinating former home of Julia Margaret Cameron, rescued by locals and now a museum in two parts( JMC photos and equipment plus IoW Festival photos and memorabilia)with a good cafe. Crab sandwiches and local beer recommended. Look for John Gielgud leaping in the basement.

Called in a brunch. All had bacon sandwiches (I added an egg) And coffee. Super sarnies, lovely, really fresh white and brown breads.
Ruth n John Redman — Google review
Great part of photography history at this Museum. The gallery is a bit mix and match. The other work they display did not match the same standards as of Julia Margret Cameron. It could be a lot better. The Isle of Wight Festival exhibit seemed really out of place in the gallery. The staff are welcoming and friendly and make your visit feel special.
Adam Bevan — Google review
Really enjoyable small exhibition about Dickens full of fascinating colorised photographs. Make sure you also watch the video which was really informative,
Lynne c — Google review
Came to see the Dickens exhibition with a childhood friend now resident on IoW. Brilliant Tea/Coffee café too.
John Fletcher — Google review
Fabulous museum at the house of Julia Margaret Cameron, one of the world's earliest and creative photographers and celebrity portraitists. Also houses vintage IOW festival photo memorabilia collection and has a lovely Tea room cafe.
Nick Olesker — Google review
Interesting museum layout, with informative galleries and gift shop, plus a well-stacked eatery-coffee shop. The history of photography and connections with 19th Century scientific pioneers, plus colonial backdrop make for an honest appraisal of this subject and her times. Stunning nearby chalk cliffs, and Tennyson monument make for a wonderful stretching of legs before or after visit. There are also intriguing recollections of the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival, including Jimmy Hendrix.

Located in the heart of Freshwater, West Wight Sports & Community Centre offers a range of facilities for visitors to stay active and enjoy their time on the Isle of Wight. The center features a swimming pool, sports hall, climbing wall, and gym, making it an ideal place to work off indulgent holiday meals. Visitors can also appreciate the friendly staff and convenient booking system for various activities.
This is a great, local sports centre. As an occasional user of the swimming pool when visiting the Isle of Wight, this is a great venue. Centrally located in the heart of Freshwater with ample parking onsite and nearby. The staff are friendly and helpful. Booking a swim slot is straightforward. Changing rooms are clean and tidy. The pool itself is excellent - 25 metres long and 3 metres deep at the deep end. Also the water isn't over chlorinated like some pools so you don't have that 'swimming in a bath of bleach' experience. Haven't had an experience of the community centre aspects of the centre but there's a lot on offer. Looking forward to visiting again.
Damon Brown — Google review
Lovely, warm and clean. I had a scuba try dive. Pool did have bits floating around in the water that you wouldn't usually see. Showers great.
Carmen Venn — Google review
Very friendly staff. Great Gym to use whenever you like. Booking system makes it good to know there isn't many people in the gym but on a full day everyone is considerate in there. I have social anxiety but everyone there is so nice I don't worry about my time there. Adam always very approachable. Never worried about going there. Lots of room for everybody

Great facilities. As a visitor to the town I was struck by how vibrant a community was centered around this place - lovely to see!

Lovely friendly and welcoming sports centre. Staff are fab to

Honestly to my mind this is the best swimming pool I have been in, in the UK. Great temperature of the water, not too busy, plenty of lanes for swimming, excellent price. The one and only thing I would change are the changing room curtains for doors . I live on the mainland but try to visit this pool when I am over as my local pools are no where near as good.

Farms
The tourist attraction Tapnell Farm Park is a beautiful countryside farm with activities for children and adults such as petting zoo, go-kart rides, sled slides and play areas. It is the perfect place to relax with family and friends while enjoying the stunning surroundings.
One of the best dine-in places on the island. Beautiful interiors and surroundings. Situated conveniently in the walking distance from both - Freshwater Bay (along the Golf Course) or The Causeway (Tapnell Trail). Great food and drinks. Reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere, helpful staff. Recommend in 100%

Great day out. Our 6 and 3 year old had the best day. Plenty to explore and hardly any queue time so could keep coming back to things. Lots of space for running around and also great that picnic areas are amongst the play areas so adults can sit and see their kids from where they sit. Great range of indoor and outdoor activities. The meet the animals events were led by very knowledgeable staff and made lots of time for the children. Everywhere was very clean and staff were attentive and kind.

A very nice place for kids and adults alike. Many entertainment options like bungee jumping, swings, zip lines, basketball, mini golf and football options and so many animals to see, snakes, tortoise, guinea pigs etc. We enjoyed it a lot! The best thing was knowing about meerkats, Kangaroos. The keeper was a nice lady, she explained all about them and also we got a chance to feed them. The place has nice food options as well.

Brilliant attraction. Lots of easy but entertaining eco-friendly games and climbing equipment for all ages. Aqua park is fantastic and The Cow for lunch is an absolute cut above the usual theme park fodder. You won’t regret a day spent here - there were 14 of us and everyone loved it.

Fantastic place, great activities for the kids. They particularly loved the pedal go-karts and activity barn. We stayed on site at Poachers Perch Lodge and it was brilliant, good sized rooms, clean and tidy with amazing views across to Freshwater. Aqua Park was brilliant and worth visiting for alone but be warned, its a workout! Food wise, The Cow and Wrap Shack are great with fanastic service. Prefect holiday destination on an often overlooked part of the island.

This was one of our favourite places on the Island. All the staff we encountered were very friendly, lots to do and not over crowded, even in May half-term. My eight and six year old were entertained for the whole day.

A great place to bring the kids when on the island. They’ve added so much since we last came a few years ago. Great value for money and plenty to do if the weather isn’t great. You can’t complain as it’s free, but the mini golf could so with some repairs/rethink but overall a great experience.
Alan Cobb — Google review
Amazing farm park. Have spent a good 4 hours here today with the kids there is SO much to do for all abilities! The gravel isn't overly wheelchair friendly but pulling backwards works / motorised wheelchair had no issues. So much to do, cafes, animals inside and outside, face painter, soft play, football shot game, bale play barn, indoor basketball, trampolines and little park, ride on go karts, sledge, free crazy golf, big animal walk and more! Lovely view of the coast from the park too to take in while the kids are playing on the bouncy pillows (2 of them 1 for under 5's one for over 5's). Our SEN 16 yr old loved it, and our 6 yr old full of energy boy was knackered after the day here! Worth spending every minute possible here as there is just so much to do we didn't get round it all!
Paige Lane — Google review
Fantastic family friendly farm and play centre! Kept so clean and well ran. So much to do and see, the time flies. Soft play, play barns, go karts, petting zoo all with a lovely cafe as well. Picnic areas so you can bring your own food as well.
Michelle Jamieson — Google review
Really lovely place for small children. Enough to spend all day there as so many different things to do. Suited for under 10s. Didn't feel busy.
Mandi Kennedy — Google review
Good place for a day with kids. The entry is little expensive but they have setup small programs at different times to talk about the animals and farm. There is a bus stop infront of the farm which has buses to and from Newport. Lots of fun activities. Has a good time.
Abhay Augustine — Google review
Great for 9 and below. Animals interactive does and places to climb about. Cafe is limited with choice of food, but there is a nearby resteraunt and you can bring your own. Alternative wet weather venue. Best experienced in the summer. It is cheaper if buying tickets in advance and online.
Kyle Holman — Google review
It is a lovely place, you will spend all day, lots of attractions go karts, soft play area, jumping balloon, playground area, cars for Toddlers, also the animals and creatures, shop for memories...etc It was very nice

This has to be the best farm I have ever been too. So much to do. Even though it was raining the kids had a great time. We will be back! Staff were very accommodating too.

Really lovely day out with so much to do. Great if the weather isn't so great. Me and my daughter got to feed some wallabies. It's great that they have a little walk through. The man doing the speech was very knowledgeable and the talk was really interesting. They have an indoor farm section (petting area) with Rabbits, guinee pigs, goats. The have a indoor reptile area. The soft play section is great as well and has a section for Toddlers. They have a great café with good selection and gift shop at the end. They had a Halloween event which was free and nice to look round. There was events such as axe throwing you had to pay extra for. You could pick a pumpkin for quite the price if you wished too. There was go carts,/ small tractor rides. Sand area! Indoor play area for Toddlers and older kids. There was animals outside goats, pigs, Meercat and Donkey. They even had mini golf which was included. Would definitely recommend. It was busy as was half term. But excellent place to keep the kids busy. I would definatly reccomend.

We weren’t originally planning a visit here during our holiday, but after seeing all the ads on the ferry about it being perfect for all weathers we headed there during heavy rain, and were so glad we did! We managed to fill a full day here with two children, aged 8 and 6. The indoor area with trampolines and hay bales was a lot of fun, and as the rain eased off we enjoyed the outdoor play areas too. There was a full schedule of things going on throughout the day, we really enjoyed watching the pigs tackle the obstacle course. My children also had lunch here, the food was good value, and the cakes in the cafe looked delicious.

First time visiting Tapnell Farm Park with the family. We all absolutely loved it, would happily revisit. Worth the money as there is so much to do indoors and outside so not weather dependent. Great day out for the entire family and we didn't get to do/see all of it. There are variety of animals and play areas indoors and outdoors. My kiddo really loved the bouncing pillows outside (and trampolines inside). Loved the pedal karts that can be one person or adult with child. Kiddo loved this as a first experience. Well spaced and stocked shop, didn't feel crammed at any point. Soft play area at the end of the day when the rain clouds opened was just perfect for completely tiring us all out. Clean toilet and baby changing facilities. Steps for young children to reach the taps and sink. Outdoor drinking water tap to refill water bottles. Loads of places to sit and eat your picnic. Loved the painted cows around the place and I was a big kid and loved the trolled slide 🤩
Sarah Ashley — Google review
Visited Tapnell Park with two adults and four kids aged 9-14. The big hits were the pedal powered go karts and the big pillows (both outdoor activities, the big pillows are closed when it is raining, which luckily it didn't while we were there). The wooden hill sledging the kids were looking forward to, but there were only two sledges and a little difficult to get a go on them. The zip lines were not particularly zippy for bigger kids, and a bit too low to the floor. We enjoyed the wallaby feeding and the meerkats, and the younger ones liked the trampolines indoors. We didn't visit the pumpkin festival as we had already done that elsewhere. Mini golf was a fun finish to our visit, liked the variety of holes and the length of the course was just right. Got a lovely hot chocolate from the cafe just before heading back to our holiday home too. For the price, its worth getting there early, to be able to fully explore and participate. Would recommend particularly for families with younger children.
