Hiking Trails
Waterfalls
Biryong Falls is a popular tourist destination accessible via a well-trodden path through lush bamboo forest. As the second of three major waterfalls along the hiking route, it may not be as visually impressive as the first or third but still draws visitors with its cascading thin stream of water into a green pool. While slightly higher than the first waterfall, it is located just before the final falls and large set of stairs leading to it.
So glad we took time to visit the waterfalls. The scenery and waterfall are very beautiful. The path is not too difficult. There's rest areas along the way. Take a picnic lunch and just enjoy the views

Biryong Falls are the second of three waterfalls on this trail up to the Observatory. More visually striking and larger than the first Falls. Not as big or impressive as the final falls. The bridge and climb up is stunning in autumn when the weather is cooler and very pleasant.

This is the second of three major waterfalls along this hiking route. It is a bit higher than the first fall, but maybe not quite as visually striking as the first (and neither compare to the third). This fall is a little further up the trail than the first one, but it is before the giant set of stairs leading to the final fall, so getting here isn't too difficult. Worth the hike

A wonderful hike within the seoraksan national Park I can highly recommend it if you have 2-3 hours to do the whole thing. The first 30% is a gentle stroll on a largely sealed surface. At the bottom of the Cascade section it becomes a rocky incline traversing a series of bridges and elevation. The views of biryong falls are wonderful. However tempting the pools look I was disappointed to know that swimming is prohibited. There are two toilets along the way. Continuing for a final gruelling kilometre is the track to viewing the highest waterfall. This is a tough vertical hike with over 500 steps and a sheltered viewing platform with binoculars at the top. If you have the fitness it is well worth it.
John van Bockxmeer — Google review
The falls were great and the trail even more fun to climb. Not easy but was worth it.

This was absolutely the best hiking trail that I have trod upon in my entire travel history. Come during the fall, around the second week of October on a weekday, where there are still fewer people before the peak season begins. Although the foliage is not as red compared to the last week of October, you can still appreciate the transitions of greens to yellows and crimsons. The trails to the waterfalls are for the beginner hiker and could take around 2 hours back and forth if you aim to take pictures during the walk. I can tell you that the journey is worth more than the actual destination. I am also in awe of the large suspension bridge nearing the end of the trail. Enjoy the view of billion-year old rock formations and serene rivers with colossal sandy white boulders. This is definitely not a trail to be missed while you're in Seoraksan, away from the busy lines of the cable cars.

Well-maintained trail that starts off in easy mode (until just past Yukdam Falls) and ends with hundreds of stairs to reach Towangseon Falls Observatory. If it's cloudy, you won't be able to see Towangseon Falls, so save your energy for another climb (like Ulsan Rock) if you want more than just exercise.

Beautiful. Nothing less. There was merit at the end of the Bi-ryong trail. Nothing like it. Sheer beauty. Highly recommended for round trip within 3 hours .

Naksansa

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Naksansa is a historic Buddhist temple complex located in Sokcho city. It has undergone several reconstructions since its original construction, featuring a stone cave and stunning views of the water. Visitors can access the temple by taking bus number 9 and paying an entrance fee of 4000 won per adult with group discounts available. The museum inside Naksansa showcases some of the remaining parts from when the temple was burned down and later reconstructed.
Loved this temple. It's right on the water and there is a hill with the big statue. A lot of little areas to see. Some nice hiking. You have to pay for parking and also an interance fee. Cheaper for students, military etc.

海沿いの景色が綺麗なお寺です。正門の大型駐車場から海沿いの見どころまではかなり歩きます。もし可能なら海寄りの駐車場 (낙산사후문주차장) が便利です。 (Translated by Google) The temple has a beautiful view of the sea. It takes a long walk from the large parking lot at the main gate to the attractions along the coast. If possible, a parking lot near the sea (낙산사후문주차장) is convenient.

Must visit place. One of the most famous temple in korea, well-known as one of Guandongpalgyeong-8great view of northeastern park of Korea. There's entrance fee for each people before. 3dollars for parking fee only nowadays. Buddhist text-sound coming out all day long, made me so calm. Free coffee & tea is offered. 1hour would be enough for looking around slowly.
Hay Retona — Google review
It's calming with the temple by the ocean. Wide enough for kids to run around. On a clear sky day, the view at the top is beautiful too!

Welcome to a buddhist pilgrimage site! There is a small cafe inside the souvenir/gift shop near the entrance that sells all sorts of herbal teas, as well as coffee/espresso drinks, but the downside is that drinks cannot be ordered past 5pm.. When I got here, some parts of the area were undergoing renovation/reconstruction but otherwise a lot of beautiful architecture, a giant stone buddha, Spectacular views of mountain-meets-ocean, an overall nice tourist area for photography manias. Some areas are off-limits mainly because those areas are actual living residences for the monks that take care of the place, I chuckled when a monk in traditional clothing walked by... wearing a brand-name runners... A lot of walking and stairs too but there are gradual ramps as well for wheelchair access and those who hate stairs. Due to covid, a lot of the fountains for natural mountain spring water have been cut off and closed so the public drinking/washing areas were not accessible but that is just a minor setback to the entire experience. Even if one is not religious or is part of a different religion, it is still a good place to take in beautiful scenery, especially at the peak.
Urimiya (Light) — Google review
A very nice temple, I did not expect it to be so big, the breeze coming of the ocean when you walk through the gate is very cooling. Everything is very well maintained and new construction is being built but it does not effect the visit. If you are in the area I recommend but give yourself at least 2 hours to see everything.
David Dahlstrom — Google review
A beautiful temple good for a walk. A beautiful place where trees, the East Sea, and rocks are in harmony with the temple. Come here when you are tired of swimming in the sea.

A famous pagoda in Yangyang area. It’s always full of visitors all year round, but in summer time it will be more crowded because of people coming here for the beach and visiting this pagoda at the same time. When we were here, some places were under construction. It has 2 parking lot (in the front and back door).

Must visit when you are in Sokcho We spend 2 hours walking around the temple
Jason L — Google review
I had a hard time trying to find the entrance. The entrance fee is 4000 won per adult, I think there is a group discount. Its worth visiting, you can go from Sokcho city in the bus number 9. The temple was burned and then reconstructed, some of the remaining parts are at a museum inside Naksansa. The views are amazing and some of the attractions have wheel chair access. It was pretty crowded at an October Wednesday.

A yearly travel destination for us! Great hike, handicap accessible, and fairly priced souvenirs. In the winter, it is quite cold and windy at the top, so be sure to have a good coat with you!

This temple has a lot of history, although the overwheming majority of buildings here are of relatively new construction (many were built after the large 2005 fire, the rest were constructed after the temple was destroyed in the Korean War). The views from the temple are beautiful, and the temple feels very much alive, with many monks to be found on the grounds. Worht a visit if you're in the Sokcho/Yangyang area

Great place to take photos. There are so many different views and angles that we can capture here. As I heard from local, students always come here to pray before their exam started. However, this place has many stairs and is not accessible by wheelchair. By the way, the parking area is also limited. If you are using a bus, you need to walk and hike a mountain a bit to reach the temple since the bus can't reach the place. The place was clean and well-maintained. The toilet provided was decently clean.

this is a little bit funny. there is a mermaid statue in there. but this is a good place where I can see the ocean and a temple in one spot.
wh Park — Google review
It's a beautiful spot right on the ocean. Parking may be difficult, but it's worth a little walk if you end up parking outside the small parking area. There are temples and a small gift shop, some gorgeous and large statues, and an epic view of the sea. During stormy weather it's amazing to watch the waves crashing in, and during calm weather you can spot tons of fish right next to the clear water's edge. I think a cafe may open here soon as well, close to the water. It's a stunning view. Note: there are stairs that go down to the water's edge but it may not be wheelchair accessible, sadly. The views from the temple area are still wonderful though and shouldn't be missed.
Doop Boop — Google review
There is a spot where you can see a lot of fish waiting for food at shallow sea. I mean A LOT of fish. They are used to getting feed by visitors, they come back everyday at certain time.
Daniel Kang — Google review
What an astonishing evening view ♡ and yes it is a temple but can be accessed by anyone without any entrance fee.
Yazhini Venugopal — Google review
This is a small temple. But the view is really great. The feeling of a temple on the sea😊There is an experience of feeding fish. also a lot of fish. actually a little scary because there are many big fish...😅😓

Huge statue of the buddha. Good scenery and it's free of charge. But there is weird private territory which is not belong to temple on the middle.
SJ — Google review
Views were much better than I expected. Can be little bit tricky for those with mobility difficulties. Also may have to park further away from the entrance when there's lots of people. I'm not a Buddist, but still really enjoyed the view of the sea. Nice surprise by 2 clever parrots (in a cage) talking and copying noises.

Been to this beach 5 years ago in summer time and now I’ve been here again in winter time. Scenery is still the same, as beautiful as it was.

Not crowded and peaceful. Great place to see sunrise in the morning. Perfect beach for families who want to have their own time.
David Hong — Google review
It was good being there but can't experience the fun because the beach is slanting, and today there was high tide we were not able to get in to the water. Not so great but it's okay. Good place to visit. Sorry for the negative comment, But that's my experience.
Joseph Jannu — Google review
Very nice beach. You can rent tubes, life jackets, chairs, and umbrellas. The sand gets very, very hot so I would suggest water shoes. Beware of broken glass.

I love this, there a long track that you can walk along the beach and enjoy the sound of the waves.

(Translated by Google) (2024.03.) Built in 1925, the pavilion will soon turn 100 years old. It is said that the major fire in 2005 was fortunately avoided. Needless to say, the scenery is great. However, there were many disappointing aspects, such as people being crowded in a small space and everyone climbing up with their shoes on, ignoring the instructions to take off their shoes.
