Nanxun Old Town

Historic Walking Areas
Nanxun Old Town, a peaceful and historic water town that has existed for over 1400 years, boasts of its ancient architecture, bridges and scenic boating and walking tours. This hidden wonder is considered as the most exceptional among all old villages visited. Visitors can marvel at the well-preserved structures while immersing themselves in the tranquility of the place.
It is a very beautiful place to visit, during November the weather is a little cold and lesser people. However, I love it... a very well-preserved architecture. Many small small F&B to try out and you should really try to boat ride, only RMB160 for whole entire boat, so even if you are 2 persons you still have to charter the whole boat for the same price but it is worth the money. Highly recommended for tourists like me who don't like to walk too much

南浔古镇 Nanxun old town, You can take a taxi from Suzhou town to Nanxun old town with about 1 and half hour and RMB 150 - RMB 200 without the toll fee. The entrance of Nanxun old town is free but you can hire a tour guide (RMB 100-200) to bring you around with explaining But all the history houses need to pay the entrance fee (age more than 60 half price will show your passport). Nice place to go

See the main areas but if you get there and it's too crowed just get around and explore you will see almost no one because the tours don't go that far. It took me 3 hours and a half to see the whole are and I would have preferred to go by myself that to book a tour but it was cheaper. As soon as we arrived I left the group to explore by myself. It was the best I could have done. The areas close to the last bridge are quite isolated and one can see houses of real people along the channel, they dry their clothes and underwear as well as fish in the river and cooked what they've caught, it's charming. The most important or touristic parts are the old houses, the temple and the rice wine factory.

As one of the many Pretty Water Towns located in the Yangtze's Dalta Region, Nanxun holds its own Eastern Old World Charms. Dated as far back as 9th Century AD, it had been gradually developed into an important regional Distribution Center for Farm products, as well as Silk trades. Equipped with entwined waterways and arched bridges, NanXun's Old Town is a well preserved Cultural Center and a delightful Tourist Destination. I had visited NanXun on a Day Tour from Shanghai several years ago, which I enjoyed immensely. I am uploading a few photos as my recommendation.

If you've seen one water town then you've seen them all. This one is still packed with tourists and very commercial. Not worth the trek from Shanghai in my opinion.

InterContinental Onethousand Island Lake Resort

Mentioned on
Hotel
The InterContinental Onethousand Island Lake Resort is a luxurious hotel offering stylish accommodations with two swimming pools, an elegant bar, and a sophisticated restaurant boasting stunning views of the lake. The rooms are chic and modern in design, providing guests with a high-end experience. The resort is situated in an upscale location that exudes exclusivity and luxury. It's the perfect destination for those seeking relaxation and indulgence amidst breathtaking scenery.
I had a fantastic time at Thousand Island Hotel. The resort is practically a destination in itself, with plenty of things to do and see in the surrounding area. My wife and I rented bikes and explored the resort and even rode to a nearby lighthouse. The breakfast at the hotel was excellent, with a wide variety of Western and Chinese options. Unfortunately, the room we stayed in had a lingering smoke smell from a previous guest, which was a bit disappointing. However, it seemed that there wasn't much that could be done about it at the time. There are other restaurants about a 5-minute walk away from the restaurant which was where we had several lunches and dinners. They are a bit more reasonably priced with different cuisine options.

Email complaints is useless, so I need to review on google map instead. I checked in InterContinental one thousand island lake resort on today 2023.06.02 with an infant in room 382. Since we check in for a family room, it already had a well-provided crib around the king bed. When we were watching TV, my baby, who was less than two years old, fell out of bed and had obvious bruises on her head due to the improper and unstable girth of the bed rail. I immediately reported to the guest service and someone came to check. But the reply is unacceptable for me, this is what he said “because the bed circumference only has one side, it is not securely anchored.”First, if you cannot guarantee the safety of the bed rail, as a customer, I would prefer you not to do it, rather than to give us with such a big safety risk. Second, if you know that only one side of the bed rail cannot be securely anchored. why are you providing this bed rail? Apart from my baby falling off the bed, the guest room also has other safety concerns, such as toilet doors that don't close smoothly, the child can be easily pinch their hands.

Luxurious hotel with full amenities and beautiful view from room. There is easy access to the lake. The area is quiet and secluded from the city. The Continental breakfast is delicious and comprehensive. It is like a full-scale buffet. The staff is courteous and professional. Great place to relax and get away.

Beautiful hotel, poor breakfast. This phrase just sums up everything. The room is lovely, slightly on the expensive side, with upscale toiletries and decor. The breakfast however, was just adequate. Extremely poor attention to replenishment of empty dishes. Literally, i had to raise my voice to get some empty dishes replenished as the service just overlooked them, hoping that they wouldn't have to fill them up. A good stay was totally marred by the time we were ready to leave.

The setting of the InterContinental is stunning and very quiet. The resort by itself is very well built and the rooms and amenities are of great quality. The staff is very welcoming and helpful in many ways, beyond what you would usually expect. Which is quite a feat considering the standing of the place. English service is a bit limited for an InterCon, but they alway manage in a very charming way, so it's not an issue since it's not a business hotel, and you have time. Internet is surprisingly efficient as well. What really killed our stay is the food. While the breakfast is rather good, the restaurant is very noisy, and for a peaceful week-end retreat, it's not very enjoyable to start your day this way. Chinese restaurant is slow and of poor quality, especially if you consider the price. The western food is sadly no better. Our best find has been the french fries, which you will want as backup in case of your very likely disappointment with the rest of the food.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful environment, very quiet resort hotel. It's a beautiful thing to go and be quiet when you're upset and stare at the lake in a daze. Hardware: The bed in the lake view room is very soft, the bathroom is relatively large, there is a bathtub, the wash basin is beautiful in shape, the bath brand is average, and the food in the Chinese restaurant is average. There isn't much food around, so you have to drive to town to get food. You can basically only take a taxi or drive from the town to the hotel, there are no buses passing by. But the scenery on the way to the hotel is also very good.
