Batu Kursi Raja Siallagan ( Stone Chair of King Siallagan )

Mentioned on
Local history museum
Sights & Landmarks
Ancient Ruins
Batu Kursi Raja Siallagan, also known as the Stone Chair of King Siallagan, is a significant historical site located in the traditional Batak village of Ambarita. It offers a glimpse into the judicial history of the Batak people. The stone chairs are divided into two sets: one for official meetings and another for executions. Visitors can learn about the cruel practices that took place at this site in the past.
Love so much. Adorables vibes and ancient place to visit.
Rangga Yudhika — Google review
It was my second visit to this traditional village and this visit was personally dissappointing. The houses, courtyard and sites in the village core were renovated between 2021–2022; thus changing the heritage ambience, modernizing the visiting experience in an unsubtle way. The modernized surroundings made the experience different; renovation of the traditional houses façade and roof, paved courtyard and a modern version of the visitors theatre, submerged the heritage into a less true experience, rather synthetic one. The most related addition was actually the rest room and souvenir area. Personally my visit was not giving the expected, as compared to my last in 2019.
Raymond Valiant — Google review
Nice tourist attraction. 10,000 rupiah to get in. You can try on Batak clothes and hats for free, and pose in front of the Batak houses. After the attraction are a number of souvenir shops selling handicrafts. Minus one star because the written information in English about the execution areas and stone chairs is very limited. It would have been great to learn more.
Anthony Huszar — Google review
An interesting place to visit but you need to pay for a guide to actually learn anything, there are no information boards.

Good place to know a bit about the history and see traditional buildings. I would recommend tongo with a guide, we dis not and was like just a walking around for us at the end.
Ramiro Romero — Google review
Went here at the late afternoon and the place is almost empty. It was a very traditional place of Batak Samosir. The place was originally a very sacrificial place in the past where the excecutions were held. I was told that the place is one of the most historical places in Somosir island. There's also Sigale-gale statue here but I haven't got chance to see it dancing.
Ludo Strait — Google review
Great story, worth visiting when you are on the island of Lake Toba! The Stone Chairs of King Siallagan unfold the cruel practice on Samosir in the past. There are two sets of them. The first one was used to serve as the official meeting place, while the other as the site for executions. The first set consisted of orderly arranged stone chairs that were specifically intended for the king, the queen, clan elders, neighboring village leaders, invitees, and the datu or spiritual leaders. In case of trials, the king would lead the meetings to decide different types of punishments including executions against the criminals. The second set features a similar arrangement but with the addition of a Long Stone Table. It was where executions took place. The prosecutors brought the death row inmate with ulos-covered eyes to the table, and then his body was laid face down with the neck in the stone basin while the executioner (Sang Datu) was ready with a very sharp sword. He slashed the neck and at once separated the prisoner’s head from his body. Further, Sang Datu stuck a single Panaluan wood into the person’s heart to remove his heart and liver for a meal. He also collected the blood for a drink. The prosecutors buried the head in a distant place and threw the body into the bush. The king and high-ranking officers enjoyed the meal.

This place already beautiful, Clean, and superb!! Souvenir market is also great, make a local people can make money.. Just one thing from me is improve the price of ticketing, minimum 1 USD so this place also can more growth :)
Kemal Sabnani — Google review
A historical place that will give you both knowledge of culture and entertainment. If you visit it within a group, the local guide (which is descendants of the king siallagan) will explain to you about the history of the place and ask you to dance in traditional clothes (they provide it). Don't forget to prepare amount of money for donation, they will prepare some boxes for you to donate.
Lieni Nara — Google review
A rather small outdoor museum with a row of Batak houses, some still lived in. Also the stone chairs and the execution area from ancient times. There is very little information for the displays to presumably encourage you to hire a guide. The exit is through the curio store, with a variety of merchandise. At rp10000 a ticket, it's really worth going in if you are in Ambarita.

Really cool stop! The authentic Indian reservation was really neat. The museum has a lot of cool artifacts. The neatest I think was the genealogy dating back to Adam & Eve. Would definitely recommend.

I went for the traditional dancing, but that has been stopped and hasn't happened since COVID apparently. But it was nice to walk around and explore the grounds. I did so alone today, as no one else was there. Just me and a lonely groundskeeper, oh and some cows. The museum and gardens were nice! The house reminded me of a typical grandma's house with knick knacks and photos everywhere. The garden would be a lovely setting for a coffee or a tea. Unfortunately however, the cafe is also very much closed. Luckily, I had a swim suit with me and I was able to jump in the lake for a swim. Entry was 20k.
Amanda Culver — Google review
If you visited Sumatra, don't forget to see how the beautiful Toba Lake and then just cross the lake into Samosir Island. In Samosir Island, you must go to Huta museum. Its a traditional Sumatran houses.in there you can find the traditional dance, its called Tor-Tor dance.
Ithajuwitha — Google review
The area is soo broad, from traditional house to museum of batak's historical heritage, then they also have coffe shop. You also can enjoy the lake from here, it's have its garden, and also house of glass (well this is some kind of old house full of pictures of the former king) and you can stay here if you want(add cost ofc). The funny part is when I met 2 foreigners and ask them about tickets, they got charged 20k, meanwhile I, as local 30k🤣
dani reff — Google review
The museum is not very interesting (Tomok's is much better), but the view from the shore is fantastic!
Mikhail Tsyganov — Google review
The entrance fee is Rp 20,000/person. The place is nice to get some bataknese knowledge but theres no more dancer performance maybe cus lack of visitor. We came here at 8.30 to 10 am and we are the only visitors here. I hope this place can attract more visitors later on. This place is better than some museum near Tomok cus the authenticitiness.
Bryan R — Google review
The museum is interesting but small. Has some traditional objects with explanations but not all of them. You have some royal tumbs and some of the houses of the last king are therein really good shape for you to see. The entrance is 50 rupiah that I think is expensive for the amount of things that you can see in it but every day at 10.30 and 11.30 and Sunday at 11.30 only they do traditional dances for around 40 min each time that are worth to see.
Martín D'hers — Google review
Must visit place during your stay in SAMOSIR Must take picture and watch sigale-gale dance from beginning. The ticket price is more expensive than the similiar show in Tomok, but it is worthy (a live music for the show here) My recommendation: If you come here when the dance has already started 1/2 part or more, wait for next new session.

The Old Tomb of King Sidabutar, II & III is a historic cemetery containing tombs adorned with Batak tribal carvings and stone chairs arranged in a circle. Visitors can learn about the local traditions from an expert guide and witness performances of Si Gale Gale. The tomb is dedicated to King Sidabutar, his bodyguard and Anteng Melila - the woman he loved.
Its an old tomb of a King with his bodyguard and Anteng Melila, the women he loves... it's a historic place, we can learn some historical tradition from the local guide, and also we can watch the performance of Si Gale Gale. And there's a lot of souvenir shop around it...

We went by scooter from Tuktuk - not well signposted so had to ask directions, showing a photo. We expected a much larger statue from the tourist brochures. Worth stopping in if you in the area but little to see in the tomb area. There is the Batak museum nearby and several souvenir shops in the alleys around. We were early morning 9am so were the only visitors.
Vincent Oliver — Google review
Went at 8am Saturday and the place was empty. Unsure if this place requires a ticket to enter, but I saw no one there. I spent 15 minutes and left. They have a toilet nearby that you can use. And I think it is free. If not, then 2,000 rupiah should be enough as a toilet fee.
Philip Nalangan — Google review
Old Tomb of King Sidabutar I, II & III. great story from the past that people can learn. They are about loyalty, romance, dan patience.
M Savrizal — Google review
An impressive complex of graves, albeit small, notably focusing on a few sarcophagus that were part of the long history of the Tomok area within the Samosir Island. Three main graves are representing three important rulers of the Sidabutar village, namely Ompu Soribuntu Sidabutar (the first king), his grandson Ompu Ni Ujung Barita Sidabutar, and finally the great-great grandson, Ompu Solompuan Sidabutar that died as recent as the early years of the 20th century. Two of these graves were sarcophagus, where the body of the deceased was laid to rest within a stone coffin above the ground; the third grave of Solompuan Sidabutar is buried as norMal graves would look as he had embraced christianity. Other small sarcophaguses are also present in the complex, retaining the remains of deceased generals of these famous kings. The complex is well kept and you may find a guide explaining you on the history. No entry fees but it is optional for visitor to adorn a small ulos shawl as sign of respect. You may tip the guide and the related staff that maintain the ulos shawls.

The Tomb of Sidabutar Kings is an interesting visit on Samosir. It's actually very small, and you can explore it in half an hour at most. However, it's fascinating to see this royal and noble Batak cemetery.

James Wijaya — Google review
Very huge waterfall, water very cold, and most important, not crowded with visitors! The journey is only accessible using minivan / suv, not bus because its tiny road to reach here. There is a refreshment stall and changing room. Recommended visit if coming to Lake Toba.
Lokmin Jusoh — Google review
This is one of the many waterfalls around Lake Toba area, although not as majestic as Sipiso-piso waterfall, it’s suitable for families to go for a dip and experience the power of Mother Nature spewing gallons of fresh mountain water in your face.

Easy to reach. Not the best one, but worth to pay a visit for a while. Prepare Rp. 2000 for toilet.
Grace Kelly Hosea — Google review
Not well sign posted so use Google or ask directions. You can visit after the Tele tower ( bette condition) or on the lakeside road which has some very rough parts. The falls are a short walk from the car park, after paying the 7000pp entrance and 2000 parking fee - official tickets for both. You cant see the full falls from the bottom but the width is lovely.
Vincent Oliver — Google review
It's a long ride from Tuk Tuk but worth it. The amount of water flowing was very strong and you can feel the waves of it from a distance too. It was cold and my dress was soaked without even taking a dip in the water. There is an entrance fee. There is a small store inside the entrance gate for snacks and other miscellaneous purchases.

A very beautiful waterfall but very poor facilities. Hope the local authorities will pay more attention on the facilities n maybe build some new, without damaging the site.

Menara Pandang Tele

Mentioned on
Scenic spot
Menara Pandang Tele is a breathtaking observation point located on a high hill, accessible via a winding road. The spot offers stunning views of Toba Lake from an aerial perspective, especially during sunny weather. Admission is free, and parking fees are applicable only for vehicles. Basic amenities such as toilets and food stalls are available in close proximity to the area. This organised and neat location provides visitors with panoramic views of mountains, waterfalls, lakes and clouds simultaneously.
An amazing spot on the very top of hill to have just beautiful scenery. You can simply see mountains, waterfalls, lake and clouds at the same time. The area is quite organised and clean. Parking site is large enough. Cafes and toilets are easy to find.

We took sepedar motor from our guesthouse (rp35k/12 hour) to Tele tower. It about 2 hour for us to arrive there since make several stop along the road. You need to pay rp2k for bike parking there and 7k for entrance fee. Got a few local restaurants if you want to eat there. You need to pay 2k for toilet. Overall there area are really nice and clean.
Noorhayati Mohd Rashidi — Google review
From this place you can see an amazing view of toba lake from above especially prettier when the weather is sunny, when you came to here its free, you have only to pay for the parking if you bring a vehicle and don't worry because near this place there's a toilet, stall that selling snacks and so on. So, don't forget to visit this place if you're going to Samosir via Tele.
Aprizal Nugraha — Google review
So strategic place to see the beautiful sights of the Toba lake and the hills. the tele tower is the highest peak of the hill in samosir district, from this peak we can see the views of the hills and of course Lake Toba is very beautiful. Tele peak can be reached by car, where this peak is one way to Samosir district. if you visit Samosir Regency, you must stop for a moment to enjoy the beauty of the scenery. Its really beautiful and amazing. And from tele peak you can see two big water fall among this between the scenery of the hills and the lake. So beautiful 😍😍😍
TasMan Channel — Google review
I felt the tower was over rated - it was grubby, outside littered and in need of maintenance, and the views similar to views from the top of the winding access roads. The 7000pp entrance fee should be used to preserve the place. There is a restaurant too, but we didn't try it. Supervised parking for 2000/scooter. Tele is a well known tourist spot so we " been there done that" but ok for one visit.
Vincent Oliver — Google review
Nice quiet place to have a panoramic view of Samosir Island. There is a small tower for you to go up and take pictures. It is run down and not very well maintained but still usable. You will spend at most 10-20 minutes taking videos or selfies here. There is also a coffee shop nearby selling simple Indonesian food and drinks if you want to sit down and chill. No fancy coffee or tea here.
Alvin Yeo — Google review
I ride motorbike from Tuktuk by myself to get here and I'm really disappointed with the view. It's common scenery along Toba lake road. It's really ordinary, you can find something better in any road along Toba lake. No parking fee, only 7000 Rupiah for entrance fee.
Alid Abdul — Google review
The. Best. Place. To enjoy the view of lake toba from this side of the lake. The view is absolutely stunning. I was overly amazed at first. Mesmerized by the beauty of which nature presents itself. With such limited time being there, i felt like a connection. Simply an amazing place to be in. If you ever come here, make sure you do come and visit this place. It'll be worth your while.

A restaurant that specializes in salads and fresh seafood is Jenny's Restaurant. The menu has a variety of items, including appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The restaurant offers outdoor seating with views of the harbor or the ocean. There is also a bar where guests can order cocktails or beers. The restaurant has a staff that is knowledgeable about the food and can recommend dish specials. It also has free wifi and reservations are not necessary.
I came to Lake Toba alone without much research. All I needed was a long awaited break from everything. When I got here, I searched the internet for somewhere to have my dinner and Jenny's restaurant popped up with great reviews. I went there my first night and I was hooked. The sambal balado chicken was amazing. Granted I went there early and I was the only one there initially. It took about 20 mins to 30 mins for my food to arrive. But it was worth the wait. It was prepared on the spot and yum! I went back for lunch and dinner a total of 4 times. This isn't like a fast food restaurant. They really cook the food after you order. I recommend the Ikan Arsik and BBQ ikan. I consumed the whole fish all by myself and they were not small. If you don't mind the wait, go and savour the local cuisine. While waiting, enjoy the ambience and even chat with the owners, Jenny and Rinto. They're great to talk with. Nice couple.

Enjoyed the chicken schnitzel. Really just a breaded cutlet with some tasty fries. My gf had the satay chicken which also came with fries and a lot of satay sauce. Very long wait but, like most local places here, they prepare everything from scratch. Prices are very low. My only issue was the loud insipid background music which I asked to be turned down. In fairness every place here seems to play the same stuff. How much nicer if we could just enjoy the peace and quiet of Samosir while we eat!

The best Ikan Bakar (Grilled fish) so far I ever had! They grill in front of the restaurant and it was so tempting! It was really big and delicious with sweet sauce and original spicy sauce! Staff are very friendly and attentive. Don't miss here if you come to Samosir!

Ordered 4 dishes to share among 2 of these huge appetite gurls! Walked 2km in the rain just to have dinner here. Every dishes is tasty in their own way! Fresh Grilled Lake Fish that u can really taste the sweetness of the flesh! Am really amazed by the super nutty and creamy Pork Satay sauce while the Grilled pork is so tender and juicy! A perfect match with their home made dark sauce. Don’t forget about their delicious hand cut fries too! If U’re fans of Tempe, am sure the curry Tempe+Vege will satisfy your taste buds! Definitely worth the wet, worth the wait, worth the money! Happy Tummy Happy Us! Great Good Food u should never never miss when you’re here in Samosir island!

The grilled fish looks like good and taste better. For a fresh water fish, it is surprisingly good, and lighter than a fish from the sea. The restaurant is small about 20 covers, and the staffs are friendly and helpful. They even called our driver for us as my phone wa flat out..

Terrible experience. Chicken Snitzel came out burnt and was very little battered and falling off/ tough to eat. Looked like they just threw it on the plate. The girls serving couldnt even smile, i'm so shocked how miserable they were!!!!! Drink came out warm...

Waited a bit before I got the menu as the staff are all busy behind the kitchen. Nice and quaint place. The grilled sour and sweet fish is probably the best. I like the chap chai - simple and well cooked, with little oil. The chicken soup was a little too salty for us. Overall nice place, need a little bit of more staffing and avoid the salty soup.

Great value for money. Was recommended by our tour guide - no regrets! Family business with awesome vibes. They actually prepared a large BBQ pit with charcoal just for 5 pieces of sate. Slightly overwhelmed during dinner time due to limited manpower, expect long waiting time.

It is just by the roadside. Very friendly and cheerful owner and family based. I was passing by on my way to another restaurant but the smell of BBQ fish outside the restaurant smelt too good that I stopped over there. I ordered grilled fish and lobster (separate menu - refer to the pictures). The spicy sauce of the lobster was great, so was the grilled fish marinated in some local spices. They play some nice music on the playground too (mostly Beatles). The food was certainly tasty compared to the several restaurants that I have tried in Samosir. No regrets of stopping by the restaurant because of the smell of BBQ fish that I got as I passed by on the scooter :)

Amazing view with unique concept. Only try their sorbet today. The passionate mango is nice and sour but fresh. The durian sorbet is too frozen & doesn’t taste or smell much like durian. We went home at around 8PM and it’s quite dark due to minimum lighting. So it’s quite a struggle for my elderly mother to walk. Besides, the staff also just taking our order and came out when I called to pay. There’s no service at all.

If you guys think that beautiful view means tasty food so it’s completely not, and if you are looking for tasty food , better go to cheap local cafes or the other good European cafes. Because you will pay here a lot and get nothing . We were so much disappointed (expecting much more), they just don’t know how to cook proper delicious food (even local one). No wonder it was completely empty we came

For those who are vegan, dont worry when you are on Samosir Island, you could have your tasty brunch or dinner here. Borobudur House is a pure vegan place and it also non smoking place that set near the lake side. So you could enjoy your dish in the calm garden or on the lake side enjoying incredible scenery of lake toba and the mountains. . I loved their guacamole with home made chips. For the chips, one is original onion chips and another one is chocolate onion. Can’t really tasted the chocolate but it suits well with the fresh taste from the guacamole. . Their home made sorbet ice cream also great, sweet and tasted almost like the ice cream that we used to have in Kesawan, Medan, The one next to Bata Shoes Store. Here they have various flavors such as Dragon Pineapple, Pinacolada, Dark Chocolate, Mango Coconut, Passionate Mango, Strawberry Coconut, but i tried the Durian. . Their Hawaiian Fried Rice is like every other Hawaiian Fried Rice, nothing special but it stills tastes good. There are many other attracting main dish you could try or you could also checkout their daily’s special. . 💲25k IDR for Ice Cream Sorbet. 💲35k IDR for Guacamole with Chips. 💲35k IDR for Hawaiian Fried Rice. 💲15k IDR for Lipton Hot Tea.

Came here because of the high review count. It is one of the occasion where Google review system fails. When we came, there is only one other table. Service is slow, and even the order taking was rushed because the waiter told us the kitchen need to cook immediately. It took long time for the food to come, which is understandable because they tried to bring out the food all at once. The fishes tasted bland and ash. And the roast chicken is burned. They said it is supposed to be like that, but it taste like coal. We have to separate the burned part, only to later find the inside of the chicken is not fully cooked. I hope that they can improve the food and service, its a pity that a 4.8 establishment can screw up so badly.

While we waiting the food, the weather kinda not compromise with us, it's a rain outside. The place it's cozy, and the owner is friendly. The food is delicious, the grill fish smell good and so fresh. But we find out there's some part in this fish is not grill enough, other than that all so perfect. We would like to recommended this place if you go to tuktuk.

Orari Restaurant is a dining spot that offers stunning views of Lake Toba, making it a standout choice for visitors. The restaurant's location provides an added charm to the dining experience, allowing guests to savor their meals while taking in the beauty of the lake. Despite potential delays due to limited staff, the food is described as delicious and served in generous portions.
Nice little restaurant clean n has a good view of the lake. We had Indonesian breakfast set of fried rice n fried noodles. Both very tasty n big portion comes with coffee or tea n plate of mix fruits.

We came here during peak season, so many restaurants are full. When we came here they let us in, but we waited 2 hours for the food. The waiters seemed a bit panic with the sudden rush crowd but still corteous. The food and atmosphere here is just okay lah. Despite the disappointment, i still give 4 stars because the guy in charge sincerely apologized to us to keep us wait too long (not that we're angry or anything).

I stayed nearby guest house and I came here everyday for breakfast / lunch. Breakfast Nasi goreng (Fried rice) or Mie goreng (Fried noodle) set comes with coffee or tea and also fruits plate! It's really worth it! What makes this restaurant the best is a great lake view! Staff are friendly and wifi is good as well.

We have stayed 3 nights in a guesthouse nearby this lovely restaurant. At first we wanted to go to jennys, which is next door, but it was full, so we tried this place: The food, the service, the waiting time, the massive portionsize and the price was very, very nice. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and I eat meat. Both our plates were very tasty and the juices were fresh and also very delicious. The next day we tried a different restaurant at first, then again it was too late and crowded so we went again to the corner of orari and jennys: Jennys was full again so we ate a second time inhere: again different dishes with the same result. it was just tasty and awesome. Third night we went earlier to get a table in Jennys. The food there was alright, but the waiting time over 1 hour was annoying. Again for desert (2 different pancakes and a fruitsalad) we went to Orari which was again fresh, tasty and just what we needed. I dont know why it is not as crowded as the other restaurants. Maybe because of the last reviews which dont describe the true picture of this place. All the best to the orari team. We would go back! Annika and Jan from Germany.

The real karen's dinner!! You will experience a different world of rude restaurant services. We are waiting more than 1 hour for food to come and the waiters have a bad attitudes seems like she has problem at home. They serve like we are about to take their money indeed we paid them to serve food in our table.

One of the very best restaurant in Samosir that still open. They serve you a large portion of food. And the view and environment are amazing. You can sit beside the lake and take the lake breeze. But I don’t if it’s because Covid. Only one staff there which is the female boss. She does everything by herself including cooking and cleaning. So it’s a bit of slow to wait your dish. But I don’t mind cause she cooks very good. All dishes I ordered were yummy.

Foods are quite good, and the fish is very yummy. However, don't order the gado gado as the veggies are weird. The waiting time is also veryyyy long, therefore pls be patient. Overall nice dinner experience.

The cuisine at Rumah Makan Islam Mami Tempo is exceptional. The tempeh has a delightful crunch, and the vegetable stir-fry is remarkably fresh. The chicken is prepared using a unique recipe, resulting in a delectable dish that resembles home cooking. Additionally, the prices are reasonable, and the service is commendable. What sets this restaurant apart is its dedication to serving halal meals, ensuring that customers with specific dietary requirements can enjoy their food without any concerns.
We had dinner on two consecutive nights at this humble family run restaurant. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The menu may be limited but I suppose they serve what they know well. Ayam penyet seems to be their most popular dish. We came at 6pm on our first night and we were the only customers there and were served fairly quickly. We came at about 7.45pm the next night and the place was packed. Definitely recommended to anyone staying in Tuk Tuk Siadong, Samosir.

The food was very good. Tempe was nice and crispy, chapjie vege so fresh, the chicken was cooked in a special recipe. Simple food but cook with love and feels like homecook meal.

Zeer schoon restaurant, er gegeten met onze chauffeur. We vragen als we lekker willen eten naar een traditioneel eethuis. (Translated by Google) Very clean restaurant, had dinner there with our driver. If we want a nice meal, we ask for a traditional restaurant.
