Each time my friends or relatives from various cities or countries, visited Medan, Tjong A Fie Mansion is always one of the list for them to visit. Do I bored with this repeated activities? Not at all... I always enjoy this heritage building in Medan. Don't miss it

When I paid for the ticket, the person asks if I speak English. I said yes but there wasnt any guide to bring me around, so I was kind of confused still.. the ticket mentions it’s a guided tour though 🤷‍♀️ when walking around the mansion, I saw 1 guide bringing a tourist around while speaking Indonesian. The place doesn’t have good ventilation and can get pretty hot. There also wasn’t much information about the decoratives/furniture in here 😅

A very well-preserved historical/heritage landmark that traces Medan history back to its Malaccan–Malay roots. The tickets for visitors are approximately $3 apiece per person with a free optional guided tour. Very worth to visit since Medan isn’t the most touristy city in Indonesia.

A big yet very homely Peranakan style house with air wells and high ceilings and full of natural light everywhere. It is nice of the family to share and showcase their family house for all to appreciate and learn about the houses back then. Enjoyed the guided tour and the artifacts on display. We had the chance to meet one of the descendent and the sharing of some of the artifacts in the room gave it life. We arrived at 4pm which left us an hour to closing time, but it turn out to be a good choice, as we can see the house in a warmer light settings.

This is the mansion of Tjong A Fie, a chinese Indonesian figure in Medan. If you ever watched the movie of Ip Man, you'll get the same vibe when entering this mansion. The mansion contains original belonging of Tjong A Fie. It also has a lot of room for visitor to explore. Taking picture is allowed, although at some area, it's forbidden. The ticket is only IDR 35K, for history enthusiast, this is a place worth to be visited.

Well it's a nice place cozy loved the atmosphere of that house although I didn't exactly understand who was the owner and what did he give to Medan to people to be immortalized But it was a good experience overall

Tjong A Fie himself is an immigrant from China, who had great success in his time to become the richest conglomerate in Sumatra. The mansion, which was built in 1895, was dedicated to his beloved wife, Madam Lim Koei Yap. we came here and got a tour guide offer, so we got a lot of information about Tjong A Fie's mansion and his family. there are lots of photo spots in this place, and the management of this mansion provides facilities for pre-wedding photos for a predetermined fee.

One of the best well-preserved Museum in Medan. If you’re a foreigner, request an english speaking tour guide. He can explain quite well and is very helpful when taking pictures. Really nice and recommended. Entrance fee is 35.000 rupiah, in my opinion it’s a reasonable price because they need to take care of the museum.

Mansion is quiet nice and takes you back in time. There are galleries which tells history of Tjong Afie and their family. Inside the mansion there are some areas where taking photos or entrance are prohibited so please exercise caution. Entrance ticket costs IDR 35.000 and can be purchased at entrance gate from the staff, not sure if there are any platform where you can purchase it in advance. Take note that changing clothes is not allowed for some reason by the staff. Pre-wedding and commercial use photos should be discusses with the staff beforehand.

My first time visiiting this museum and gallery, it have more than 2500 species you can have a look at. Really good experience, however when we visited the museum not all the lights are turned on, so some of the section really dark

DO NOT VISIT! This place is disgusting, and so unethical. I don't know why I thought it would be natural causes the animals died of and then got taxidermy but nope, some guy goes around hunting and killing all these animals for the thrill. I feel so bad for paying 150k just to support this cruel place. The man who hunts all these poor animals needs throwing in prison. And as I left a van pulled up with a large box on a crate so no doubt another poor animal was being brought in to showcase.... I feel so sad after visiting here.

I can just only said" it's very amazing". Many knowledges about animals and we can see many animals those we never seen before in real. The ticket is worth it for those great collections.

Saturday March 25th, 2023 about 12pm, three of us visited this museum. Paid IDR 75.000 each. No queue upon entry. We saw a lot of preserved animals, and a few of other collections like coins.

Entry fee for local is Rp 75.000, for tourist is Rp 150.000 Remember to change your free small popmie after strolling around the gallery. It's facinating that they used real animal and preserve it, so nothing is fake A super wonderfull experience & my first time visiting real animal museum 👍👍👍👍👍

So many great n beautiful collections. From big mammals, to super tiny arthropods, insects, sea creature, etc etc. Price is affordable, 50k/ticket. Children would love to come here. There's a small canteen too, n clean rest room.

Good to take children to visit this place to learn about many types of animals both in Indonesia species and those of from another country ... Enjoy my time here. Interesting to see wild live throughout the various animals here. They have small cafetaria and clean toilets. Spent almost 3 hours inside. Do not hesitate to question the staff about this museum, they will assist you.

Worship place in medan. Also served as a church, mainly for sri lankan descent. The architecture is very unique, whilst most church used modern design , this church use south asian model. The place is very quiet and serene, many people retreated to this place to gain peace of mind. They also have a natural spring, which is believed to bring positive effect to the people.

Interesting Indian flavoured Catholic Church. Beatifully built and decorated with great authenticity. The church sat in a significantly large compund. We were greeted by an Indonesian nun who was eager to show us around this beautiful church. We can hear Tamil mass was being held on the next door chappel.

Never seen anything like this before and I do quite like it. There is a sense of serenity and devotion.

This is a really nice and peaceful place. You can look around and just sit in peace. Uodate on 7th October 2018- people weren't allowed to go up which was disappointing. There used to be wishing fountain but now I am not sure if people still throw the coins or no. There wasn't lights on like before. There is free candle provided inside the praying room so you don't need to buy candle from the shop. Just give money as offering.

Tamil style catholic church. The Virgin Mary chapel is great. The PIC at the mini store inside church who is in charge for handling customers should be more friendly.

One of the best architecture for Catholic Church. Very unique and interesting. Now the church open as a tourism destination. Quite far from the city. Better come on Sunday, when the traffic is not too crowded. Large parking and very welcome from all the staff. Recommended place to visit if you are travelling to this city.

This temple is huge and spacious for praying, and is very beautiful. There is a vegetarian restaurant inside and they serve a wide variety of vegetarian dishes, snacks and drinks. Worth visiting!

One of the biggest Buddhist temple in Indonesia (or even Asean according to some people). The temple is well maintained, clean and peaceful. There are Buddhist shop and vegetarian restaurant inside the premise. There is an event hall to accommodate Buddhist related event too.

Probably the biggest buddhist monastery in town! Nice lunar new year vibes. Must visit!

When we stepped into this Maitreya Buddha Hall, it was as if we had entered a magnificent palace. The huge spacious hall and Buddha statues left us in awe and amazement, and it can be said to be one of the largest Buddhist temple in Asia. This Maitreya Buddhist Temple was built in Medan Indonesia by a Buddhist sect from Taiwan which founded decades ago in Taiwan that grow into a powerful worldwide Buddhist sect shortly. The whole complex consist of main hall at ground floor mainly for disciples's use in worship & praying activity, adjacent to a big vegetarian restaurant. The majestic and beautiful Buddhist temple is also regarded by the locals as an entertainment and photo spot for leisure walks. An aesthetic museum in Medan, you can find many spot photos while learning the history of North Sumatera. The charging fee is cheap around Rp3000 per person, where you can feel comfortable in the museum. It has strategic places, beside the center road, but it is closed at 4pm.

Well, I wasn't even charged for a ticket. I was just requested to fill some personal info on a registration book. I don't even know why. This two-floor museum actually has a lot of things to see. However most exhibits do not have high value and lack descriptions. Even if there are descriptions, they are the general ones not specifically about the exhibit on display so you don't even know how old an exhibit is. Not so much a professional exhibition for a state-level museum. Still a nice experience provided it's free or cheap enough, though I was in fact a bit disappointed. Also there are many locals here who seem to treat it like a playground and I have no idea what their roles are even whether they are visitors or staffs. The cleaning lady made very irritating noises when cleaning the staircase.

Reasonable local museum which costs 10000 rupiah for tourists to enter. Most exhibits have English translations but don't expect to spend longer than an hour here. Good wet weather activity

Medan is a lot of museum and this one is one of museum that you should visit, this museum is very big and consists of two floors so you should prepare the energy for visit this museum and don't forget to look at your watch because this museum close at 3 p.m ahahaha this museum has a lot of collection such as the history of colonial era, ancient human era, and so on. Last but not least the location of this museum are near another iconic place in Medan like Maimoon Palace and Masjid Raya, so if you visit this museum you can visit that place too.

We reached around closing time, but were so touched by the gesture of the museum staff. They gave us permission to enter and also took us on a tour of the museum. We couldn't speak each others' languages, yet they tried to gesticulate and explain finer details. The exhibits are a great way to get a good understanding of the evolution of the island of Sumatra, its tribes and their specialities.

Very delicious chicken curry dish. The curry is coconut based. Main ingredients are chicken and potatoes. It was quite balanced and delicious and the portion was generous. I also had a lemonade which was very delicious as well, a bit more sugary than I’m used to though. The atmosphere and seating was clean and calm. Highly recommend!

The most delicious Chicken Curry Bihun (beehoon) I've ever tasted! The curry broth is just so good, just the right conaistency, full of flavour. The chicken is tender, and you can ask for chicken blood cake or no blood cake. There's an option for beef also. And it turned out you can order a mix of chicken & beef, which I only learnt after the fact because the next door table ordered it. Rice is also available if you are not the beehoon type. The place is quite big, there are the outdoor area, with the danger of smokers; and the indoor area which is better. Warning, if you go during the weekends, you need to come as early as possible. Weekdays, come after the breakfast crowd. However, since Tabona is like an institution in Medan, expect it to be always crowded with locals, tourists & food delivery drivers alike. Pasta options are solid as is the burger. Beware the pasta can be spicy as per Indonesian and Sumatran preferences. Crispy duck is quite crispy. Their breakfast menu is notable. Granola is delicious as is their mixed bread option (traditional & chocolate croissants). They offer a British-style breakfast that is solid. Egg bakes are delicious. Waffles are very good but get soggy quickly if your child is a slow eater (or you are!). Extensive menu of dessert options. Lemon meringue tarts are definitely a good choice when available. Finally, they roast their own coffee. Shaken iced espresso is delicious, and if you like the more bitter aspects of coffee the Japanese iced coffee is a good option. Ambiance is very relaxed and informal. A favorite brunch location. Highly recommended!

Good coffee place at the city centre. Located behind Brastagi Supermarket Tiara, they offer various options of coffee, food & cakes. I have tried their lattè, cappuccino & flat white on different visits and they all tasted nice. As for the food, i've tried their creamy mushroom, potato skin, nasi iga, nasi goreng, as well as their cakes (nastar & klepon) and all tasted delicious! Service is generally good. Staff is polite & friendly. However, i believe they need to pay attention more to outdoor area because it looks like all the staff only focus on the indoor part. It's sooooo difficult to call them that even raising your hands repeatedly wont work 🥲 I find it quite weird since outdoor & indoor / bar are only few steps away separated with clear-see through wall, yet they seem to be always unaware that there are people outside trying to get their attention. I feel the need to raise this issue because i have experienced it multiple times. Other than that, the overall experience was nice. Would recommend this place for sure.

I guess they don't really take care the taste for ice creams and foods anymore. The omelette was literally telor dadar, so dry and not enough seasoning. The bread that came with it, was a bit underbaked. The ice creams tasted very average. Luckily they still maintain the cakes. If you love cake jadoel then you will love this place.

we ordered the fried rice and the hot plate beef. The fried rice was delicious and rice was just nice not too hard and too soft, the taste was good, we try to eat with the chilli and the onions; that was so match. The chilli not the extra spicy type, so it’s ok for chew and eat. The beef was a bit disappointed coz it’s was too thin and the black pepper sauce was not tasted good; need improvement for this meal. The beverage that we ordered was the sorbet, taste so so. Not my cup of tea. This shop famous due to the historical fact only.

Service is fast despite full house. Food is good - chicken steak is crispy and peppery, nasi goreng had a zest of small shrimps, normally found in Singapore mee hoon. Fruit juice is fresh and refreshing. Environment is lively. Has AC and non AC seating areas. Non AC is a bit stuffy not to our liking. But Live bands entertained the guest in Non AC area. AC area is very comfortable. Staff is friendly and helpful with the menu and orders.

4304 reviews today. Tip top restaurant is perhaps the oldest restaurant in Medan Town, it's building is artistic and historical style, built-in the days of the Dutch in Indonesia. There's another historical building just right across the street called Tjong Ah Fie. I don't read so much about Medan history, but I'm pretty sure this place was a place where people of those olden days came by for food and relaxing leisure time. I just couldn't imagine how and what kind of lifestyle people were living on that past long ago time. It must be fun, clean air, clean environment with lots of trees everywhere that produces more oxygen and convinced that time people were more friendly and caring. Food and service were pretty good. Ordered the American steak. Was as thin and large as a McDonald's hamburger patty. I guess I was expecting something similar to a NY or porterhouse steak. Otherwise, pretty good. Just don't expect American style cooking. I've cream was good as well. They had live band in the front dining area.

Guys, I was really looking forward to this. You have an original icon of a restaurant that has totally lost its way. The chicken soup was nice but that steak, it was really thin and way overcooked and the french fries, do you cook in palm oil? They were white with a horrible after taste. Also your gravy was very strange, it tasted half gravy and half mayonnaise. You really need to hire a Western Head chef. If you already have one then you need to fire them and get a new one. It really was the worst Western for I have had in Medan.

Tip Top Restaurants one of the legendary iconic place. No doubt the foods here is so good. Especially their mocca cake.. Love It!. The design, interior and furniture still looks the same. It's good to be back here.

Koki Sunda is one of the best Sundanese restaurants in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The foods and drinks are delecious. The price is affordable. It is highly recommended.

Good food, good place, medium price. However, I think Koki Sunda need more improvement in some menus i.e. Nasi Liwet. The taste actually is good enough, but salty. I think the chef may reduce the salt on this menu. Also, this restaurant need to improve it's service. Please don't differ the customers by their appearance. We came here with T-shirt/simple clothes and..I feel like the service processes are too slow for us comparing others. In SERVQUAL concepts i learned in college (Industrial Engineering), the service (especially from the guest/customer sit down on table untill the dishes are ready to consume) is one of many keys for customer satisfaction. Koki Sunda need to improve that field.

overall all the food was great but the ayam bakar i received was unacceptably dry and rubbery. thankfully the replacement was much better. the sate maleber was super soft and delicious!! the kangkung belacan was good as well but way too spicy :-( the food came fast apart from the nasi goreng which came around 20 minutes later... also it was hot at the table we were at because it wasn't directly under an AC. overall it was a good experience and the bill ended up being shockingly cheap/affordable considering the large portions. definitely recommend coming here!

Look what I got in this restaurant, very comfortable when you dine in with your family, has a lot of choices. What I don’t like is the sound system, it was very noisy & uncomfortable when they play a happy birthday songs, don’t like that though. I recommend udang bakar and nasi liwet :)))

One of the most crowded seafood place in Medan. Plenty of street parking. The seafood is really fresh, they cooked it so well that the seafood is still moist. The freshness of the seafood is superb. This is the only time we ordered a chicken (green chili fried chicken) in a seafood restaurant because its really that good. The crab is unbeliavable soft. Highly recommended.

The Seafood I always came back when coming to Medan. Taste was great but not memorable. Service was super fast. The price is reasonable. Their service is commendable because they serve the food efficiently. However, I’m not just a big fan of what we ate. Maybe it’s because it’s too spicy for my own liking (I’m not from Medan). Also, I used the restroom and I think it needs air fresheners because it was so smelly.

Everything was perfect. Even though there were a lot of customers, the food were ready fast. Two things that I like the most is its portion and price. The staffs are quick response and informative. They prepare the table in no time.

This place serves a whole spread of seafood dishes (prawns, crab, fish, squid n etc). If you're allergic to seafood, fret not, cause they also serve chicken, beef n veggies dishes. You could choose the way your food from their menu (eg: green chillies, red chillies, tomyam, tiga rasa, sweet sour n etc). According to our driver, the place always crowded (and it's also pack with people during our visit). However, the services are quite fast. The price is quite affordable.
