Kōshō-ji Temple

Mentioned on
Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Kōshō-ji Temple, established by the Tokugawa family in the 17th century, is a serene and picturesque destination. The temple boasts impressive architecture, including a stunning five-story wooden pagoda completed in 1808. Nestled in woodland on Yagoto Hill, it offers a modern garden and tea house for visitors to explore. Additionally, the temple hosts an annual "1,000-Lantern Festival" during the harvest moon in October.
Serene. Empowering. Beautiful. My limited vocabulary cannot explain the experience of visiting this shrine on an empty weekday afternoon. The entrance is obviously grand, and inviting in its own special way. The big Buddha statue does not disappoint. The forest and paths around the temple are absolutely worth the dérive - you easily lose time, especially if your phone’s switched off because you don’t plan day trips well (: Do walk around the estate and find labelled paths around the monastery area, ritualistic spaces, the eating buddhas, the woods, and the running track.

Kosho-ji is one of my favorite places in Nagoya. I come here 2-3 times a month, for prayer and to just relax. There is a beautiful tea house located behind the main temple. For 500¥ you can relax inside the building and enjoy some matcha and wagashi. While enjoying a nice garden view.

Very great Temple complex. It was bigger than I thought. There is also a path you can walk. You do have to be carefull when it rains since the path can be slippery. Nevertheless I would recommend making a quick viqit. It's free and very beautiful

Beautiful and peaceful place in Yagoto, must visit when you go to Nagoya city. It’s nearly Yagoto station, just take a few minutes walking to there. The temple have a park save the forest inside the city so quite and fresh 🌸❤️

It's a nice temple in Yagoto. Very calm and peaceful place. The temple garden is very big and it's a great place to spend some time. There is also an escalator to go uphill. There are some souvenir shops as well. It's very close to the Yagoto station. When you exit from exit 1 of subway, it's only a 100 m walk.

Travel only 20 minutes from Nagoya City center and, after only few steps into the grounds, the noise of the city becomes but a distant memory. After passing the approach, beyond the Inner Gate, the 26-meter-high Five-storey Pagoda rises into view. The elegant flowing lines of the curved eaves and roofs have stood with a timeless stately presence for more 200 years.
Phúc Dương — Google review
It is a Buddhist Temple which opens its worship hall and allows worshippers and visitors for worship and other religious practices inside the hall. Such an open-door policy is rather rare for the temples or shrines in Japan. Visitors can walk around the courtyard to enjoy pagoda, center Buddha statue and other various statues in the courtyard. The Temple has escalator for visitors who want to visit the bury/ the tomb worship area.

A picturesque and tranquil place in the hustle and bustle of Yagoto. You can reach the temple within a few minutes walk from Yagoto Station. Explore the cafe, main temple and the temple grounds any season.
Linor B — Google review
This temple is very historic, beautiful and clean. The peacefulness of this location is really amazing. It's hard to believe that this temple is in the middle of a busy city. There is a little forest reserve which you have to cross to get to the temple and this walk is very beautiful. If you are visiting Nagoya, especially the Yagoto area, this is a must visit place.

Sacred & Religious Sites
Tsukiyominomiya, a renowned Shinto shrine in Ise City, is devoted to the worship of moon deities. Despite its modest size, this shrine holds great significance in the region due to its association with the divine. As the sister shrine to the heavenly god, Tsukiyominomiya commands immense respect and admiration. The allure of this sacred place lies not only in its spiritual reputation but also in its tranquil ambiance.

(Translated by Google) It is a separate shrine of Toyouke Daijingu Shrine, and is pronounced Tsukiyomi-no-miya. The location is at the end of the street when you head north from the Kita-mikado entrance of the Geku and walk straight along Kamiji-dori. The middle of Kamiji-dori Street is the path of the gods, so it is color-coded so that locals can avoid it. From Iseshi Station, go straight to the signpost at the Honmachi 1 intersection. Although it is located in the city area, it is surrounded by many trees and has a quiet atmosphere, so there are not many people. The deities enshrined here are Tsukiyomi no Mikoto, the younger brother of Amaterasu Omikami, and her Aramitama, Tsukiyomi no Mikoto, all enshrined in one shrine building. It has been. It has a long history, and was already mentioned in the Toyuki Shrine Ritual Book in 804. Originally, Tsukiyomi-son and Tsukiyomi-son Aramitama were separate shrines, just like Tsukuyomi-gu Shrine, a separate shrine to Kodaijingu (although the kanji are different). It seems that it was once enshrined in the shrine building, but after a fire destroyed it in 1419, it took on its current form. Like the main shrine, the shrine building underwent a Shikinen Sengu ceremony, and the current shrine building is on the east side, with the old shrine site on the west side. After visiting the shrine, I stopped by a lodge and received a goshuin stamp and various materials. It's perfectly fine if you don't say "welcome" or "thank you." It's okay if you talk to your employees in a way that makes you nervous. However, I was shocked to see that even though I said good morning to him in the morning, he just glanced at me and passed me without saying a word. (Translated by Google) This time we set up at the auto site, but since the campsite is located in a fairly deep forest, it was quite refreshing. The air is delicious. The local beer at the shop is delicious. However, wild animals such as badgers and monkeys become active in the evening, and even if there are people in front of the tent, they may take garbage bags and food with them, so you should be very careful about managing them. . It depends on the shape of the tent, but even if you tie the mouth of the garbage bag and close the entrance to the tent, the garbage bag can still be taken under the tent. All garbage must be taken home, and synthetic detergents are not allowed when washing dishes. The hot spring was apparently opened 450 years ago, and the quality of the spring water is extremely slippery. It is highly alkaline, and its pH value of 10.4 is said to be among the highest in Japan. The business hours of the hot springs differ on weekdays, weekends, and holidays, and the system allows you to decide when you can enter the hot springs based on the earliest check-in, so it's a good idea to arrive early and let us know your desired time. The hot spring fee was 700 yen, which was separate from the 5,900 yen accommodation fee, so I think the price is a little high. That said, the hot springs are open on a rotating basis and half-reserved, so I was able to spend a comfortable time there. . . For better or worse, it is a valuable campsite where you can enjoy camping to the fullest while feeling close to nature. My cell phone is ahamo, but I couldn't get a signal.

(Translated by Google) I used it for 3 nights and 4 days during the Obon season. In terms of total evaluation, I think it's a little better since it has its fair share of good and bad points. It's great to have a hot spring nearby, but I don't think it's good in terms of cost performance. The concept of a campsite is a bit forced, so if you're not into that kind of thing, you might want to avoid it. ◎Good points ・The quality of the hot springs is good. My child has atopic dermatitis, but his skin is in good condition. The bathtub is limited to 10 people per 45 minutes, and the bathtub is not large, so if you don't get the timing right, it can get crowded. ・It's nice to be able to get ice for consecutive nights. ・Cleaning of the kitchen and toilets will be done once a day. Facilities are normal. ・The Suzuran milk soft serve ice cream at the shop is quite delicious. ・Craft draft beer is also expensive but delicious. ・The autumn leaves look beautiful. ・You can also play in the river. ・Wi-Fi is available on the Anshin site. Thank you very much. ・The staff seemed unfriendly, but I was glad that they listened to what I had to say. ✕Not so good ・The advance explanation is long. I think it's okay to just mention the important parts...some parts of it just sound like bragging, so I think it could be a little shorter. ・It may be unavoidable, but wild badgers often appear at night. I was told in advance that a badger would come, but I didn't expect that my garbage bag would be destroyed within the few minutes I went to take a bath...There were people nearby, but I didn't think they were careful. It's worse than a cat. ・To protect the environment, we do not allow detergent in the kitchen other than those provided. This doesn't remove any oil at all. ・You cannot use anything other than the body soap and shampoo provided in the bathroom. This also makes their hair frizzy, so I think women don't like it...You can't use the hair dryer unless it's provided. ・The safe site is close to the next door. The area is relatively large, but I'm a little concerned about it. Although it is inconvenient, other sites are better located. ・The restrooms on the auto site seem to be dirty (pumping type), and people are concentrated in the central restroom kitchen. I don't know if it's because of this, but there were times when the smell of sewage around the toilet was terrible, and sometimes the smell came out depending on the direction of the wind. ・People concentrate in the central toilet and kitchen area, so depending on the site, if you face the entrance toward the aisle, people will pass by once every 3 to 5 minutes, making it uncomfortable. On the contrary, I learned a lot about tent layout. ・There wasn't as much play equipment as I expected. ・It's fine to pay for garbage disposal for consecutive nights, but I wish they would have explained a little more at the beginning if they were going to separate the garbage so strictly that you shouldn't put plastic bags in the garbage bucket. ・There are a lot of mosquitoes and insects. Take proper insect control measures. Based on the above, I think the overall score is 3 stars, which is close to 4 stars.

However, I was able to see the scenery and relax. They were just doing fireworks. It's hard to see the fireworks looking down. The water area and restrooms are clean. There were no people making noise and it was quiet.

(Translated by Google) I went up the mountain trail instead of by car. It's about a 30 minute asphalt climb from the climber's parking lot to the trailhead...(Enjoy the rural scenery) As a result, the cumulative elevation difference to the summit was over 800m, which made me quite tired. It took 2 hours and 40 minutes to reach the summit. Most of the trail is wide and uneven, making it very easy to walk. It is well-maintained and suitable for beginners as there are no dangerous spots, but the altitude difference is not very beginner-friendly, so take your time. The view from the top is one of the best in Satoyama. You can see the Central Alps in front and the Southern Alps in the back, and it is also luxuriously equipped with free binoculars. I sat on the bench and was dazed for a while. However, there aren't many interesting spots along the mountain trail, just a large beech tree that is over 600 years old. There are almost no views from the forest. The summit is lively as there is a famous campsite among campers. If you just want to see the scenery, the correct answer is to go by car. By the way, some people came up by bicycle.

(Translated by Google) You can clearly see the Komagane area from the top. I'm a little disappointed that the night view was blurry as I started getting gas in the evening. Most of the road is paved, but there are parts that are only wide enough for one car.

(Translated by Google) It's a little far from the campsite. From the parking lot, go through the campsite grounds and climb the wooden stairs to find yourself in another world. You can see the majestic mountains of the Central Alps, and when you look back, you can see the mountains of the Southern Alps. You can also see the wide cityscape below the Central Alps. My wife and I had planned to stay in a tent at the campsite and enjoy the night view from the top of the mountain, but we felt unsafe due to the minus 5 degrees Celsius temperature, so we decided to enjoy the night view from the campsite instead. This night view spot, which was introduced in the camping anime “Yurukyan Delta”, is a place every Japanese should visit at least once! Being able to come up by car is also a big plus. It used to be an old toilet with pumps, but the toilets have recently been renovated. Campsites are also available free of charge.
