Kampong Cham

Kampong Cham is a city on the Mekong River in southeastern Cambodia. It's known for its French colonial buildings. To the south, Koh Pen Island is reached via a long bamboo bridge. Just beyond town is Wat Nokor Bachey, where a modern pagoda is built on the site of an Angkorian temple. The hills of Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei have temples at the top. Farther north, Prasat Hanchey has pagodas and Mekong River views.

For a fascinating glimpse into rural life in Kampong Cham, make a trip to Cheung Kok village on the city's outskirts. This village offers guided tours organized by an NGO, providing visitors with insights into local agricultural practices like rice harvesting. Additionally, there is a shop where one can purchase handmade crafts created by the locals.
We stayed one night in the Cheung Kok village. The tour from Ms. Aline was very informative and her English class was fun to attend. It’s beautiful to see what she does and has done for her community. Everyone was really welcoming. Make sure to stop by the lovely shop with handicrafts from the village before leaving!

Authentic experience of village life in Cambodian countryside. The children are welcoming ambassadors. The culture of the country is one of hospitality. Well worth the drive.
Larry Ross — Google review
Such a fun and different experience. We met the locals and learned from each other, learned how they live and produce foods and goods. And we stayed at a local's house and ate traditional Cambodian food. Whoever likes being a little away from crazy city life should definitely pay this village a visit. Such great and kind people. :))
Sophie Brady — Google review
Nice little village to walk around, there were many chickens, dogs and cows.
Chris — Google review
We had an amazing time with Aline visiting the village and learning about local life there. Would highly recommend calling/texting to organise a tour. We wouldn't have gotten much out of the experience had we just showed up and wandered around ourselves. Aline is a warm and fun person who does a lot for her community. The number we used to contact her was +855 69 555 115 because the website wasn't working.
Leah D — Google review
Lovely people, lovely kids. Peaceful atmosphere. We didn’t find someone who was supposed to explain us around but that’s ok, it’s good to have a walk around by yourself. We bought some stuff from their market for support the local community. Do it, it’s cheap! :)
Alice Pomiato (aliceful) — Google review
It's a great place to visit if you're interested in rural life in Cambodia. Aline is such a lovely person, it's very impressive how she is a tour guide, teaches all the kids in the village and helps to promote sustainable development. She introduced the AMICA program to us and showed us around the village, where we could see how the people weave scarfs, collect the palm juice from which they produce palm sugar and grow all kinds of vegetables and fruit. At the end of the tour there's a little store where you can buy handicrafts made by the villagers. The tour is free, I'd recommend supporting the community by either buying some products or donating some dollars. I'd recommend contacting Aline in advance to make sure she has time to show you around. (We called in the morning and visited the village the same day in the afternoon) We were a little confused about were we should go to, I think the easiest is to wait at the AMICA school building, which is on the right side of the road, if you follow the turquoise sign at the entrance of the village.
Lena Langenreither — Google review
The village people were very friendly. It was fun walking around the village with the kids holding your hands and wanting to interact.

Best vego curry I’ve had on this trip so far. 6 months. It was more than a hungry cyclist needed and was full of a good selection of vegetables and not just all sauce. Great menu with lots of choice from Asian to Western. Lovely friendly staff. Although not advertised, there is also a lovely big room there you can rent. Shared bathroom with family. I had 2 really nice nights there. Totally recommend it, restaurant and accomodation.

I spent 4 years in New York, and that's got to be one of the toughest pizza towns in the world. I have to say, though, the Ali Special ranks as one of the best pies I have ever eaten, anywhere. No, it's not orthodox - white sauce instead of red, but bear with me. It's topped off with a generous helping of garlic and bacon. Might wreck your breath, but it'll make your day. Absolutely worth a visit.

In my humble opinion, Dary makes the best pizza in Cambodia. I've been eating at Lazy Mekong Daze since 2009, I've never been disappointed in a meal there. Highly recommended.

A regular stop-off in Kompong Cham; Lazy Mekong Daze is well located with a view to the Kizuna Bridge and the Mighty Mekong River. Decent western and Khmer food is served and the staff are friendly and fun once you get to know them! The french owner has lived in Cambodia for around 12 years and is a good source of local knowledge. They also rent modern, well maintained Moto’s if you want to explore on your own, and can recommend and organise reliable Tuktuk drivers. A worthwhile stop, but remember to SLOW DOWN! You’re in Kampong Cham!

Eaten here many times over a number of years. Consistently good food - especially the Western Food. Pizzas are also surprisingly good and they speak really good English and have a good selection of drinks. It has a nice setting and good views of the riverside - you get a good breeze in the evening. You can also play pool. It's also possible to rent motorbikes and bicycles here at a reasonable price.

Sights & Landmarks
Kaoh Pan Island Bamboo Bridge, previously the longest bamboo bridge in the world at 1km long, connected Kampong Cham city to Koh Paen island. It was a popular attraction, able to carry large vehicles and pedestrians. Rebuilt annually after being washed away during the monsoon season, it offered a unique and enjoyable experience for visitors. The island side provided activities such as swimming, kite flying, and dining in Cambodian-style cabanas.
Awesome bridge! Longest handmade bamboo bridge in the world with just over 1 km

A 2,000 Riel or 0.50 usd per person entrance for 2-way trip is worthwhile to enjoy one of the most popular attractions in the center of Kompong Cham town. Also, good to view sunset n perhaps a quick river beach swimming if you can't find elsewhere in Cambodia or in your country.
Lyda Hak — Google review
One of the main tourist attraction place of Kampong Cham. The Bamboo Bridge made each year during dry season when low water level & it gets damage during rainy season. Only 2000 KHR entry ticket. Magnificent Sunset view across the river while walking through this long Bamboo Bridge is an amazing experience. Other-side of the river has nice facility with bamboo huts, foods, nice decorations where you can spend the whole afternoon peacefully while exploring the river itself with swimming & have fun! Worth to visit
Rajib Dakua — Google review
Nice place to take selfie. Should go early in the morning as it looked sooo much nicer. If uou'd like to cross the bridge, would cost you 5000KIP. That's how they build this bridge as it's only stands for 6 months 🤓
Diah Sastri Pitanatri (Diah Sastri) — Google review
Yes good place no air pollution because I have bike 🚲 to explore there Thanks for allowing me to ride a bike along the Bamboo bridge 🌉 to Koh Pen. One day with 236.6km pretty long for first time. #Cyclingtrip

Bamboo bridge to a mini island/beach resort. We paid 5000reil for two of us plus motorbike parking. Pretty impressive that they build the bridge every year. Good view of the sunset on the other side of the bridge
Louis Jacobs — Google review
A fun thing to do if you are in the area is to cross the Mekon river by the Kaoh Pen bamboo bridge. It is 1 km long and a lot more sturdy than you would think. I paid 2000 riel to walk back and forth it
Annedorte Vad — Google review
Tourist trap. Entry with moto 5kr. The moto can't pass. Other side has a beach with hammock huts for khmer vacationers.
Simo Henrik — Google review
Only got to view the bridge from our boat and then when the tour bus stopped. Wish we had time to walk across.
Gary Paulson — Google review
A very long (1km) bamboo bridge connecting the mainland to Koh Pen. During rain season it is washed away by the river and is rebuilt after rainy season each year. Amazing sunset and great spot to explore. The sandy island has a number of restaurants with Cambodian style cabanas. It’s worthwhile the trip. Something different.
Gavin Tsai — Google review
A bit of tourist fun to cross this nearly 1km long bridge It is rebuilt every year after being destroyed in the wet season
Martine Grant — Google review
This was a novel and fun experience! The structure is well built and interesting to look at. The bridge is built every year for the dry season time period. The cost to cross was around 2000kr per person regardless if one was cambodian or foreign. The activities on the island side included swimming, chilling in a gazebo, flying a kite, taking photos with the pretty structures and food. A cool area to spend time with friends and socialise.
Emily Keye — Google review
A 1km bamboo bridge connect to a small island. I paid 5000 riels for me and my motobike (foreigner, local maybe cheapper or free, i dunno). It's a local bridge for pedestrian before, car and bike can get through before, but now it's a travel destination with ticket for entry.

Guest house
Cambodian restaurant
The Moon River Guest House & Restaurant offers excellent service and comfortable, spacious rooms at a great price. The Tuna melt baguette could use more tuna fish compared to the abundance of onions and is considered overpriced. The Amok Fish lacks creaminess due to a lack of spices and coconut milk, according to an expert on the dish. However, the guest house is known for its delicious sunny side up eggs with butter and jam at a reasonable price.
The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. For the price, this guesthouse is an absolute steal. I've stayed here twice, and been thoroughly satisfied each time. The staff is accommodating and friendly to a fault, and the food is also very good. I would personally recommend the Chicken Bojangles. Really lovely place!
Brendan Stewart — Google review
Restaurant: excellent service. Tuna melt baguette has more onions than tuna fish. At 3,50$, it's overpriced. Amok Fish is bland and not creamy enough (lack of spices and coconut milk) and believe me, I'm an expert in that dish. Eggs and baguette, butter and jam (2,50$); one of the rare places making sunny side up eggs. Yes !
Claude Gobeil — Google review
Even though the entire guesthouse was empty the silly manager still insisted that pre- covis 19 prices would be charged ($20 ) for a very plain ,average room .This is Not good business sense.

Food was good staff spoke English and where polite but not very enthusiastic. Views from out front over the Mekong river are pleasant nice place to sit and relax after a big day . Didnt stay in the accommodation so cant comment. Both Khmer and western food . A local Khmer friend recomended the Amok though I didn't try it myself .
trevor dixon — Google review
Great location. I paid $6 (list price is $8) for a fan room. It used to be a very clean guesthouse (I've stayed here 3 times). Rooms are now neglected and the cleaning seems to consist of running a mop over the floor and changing the sheets, everything else is ignored (bathroom tiles, sink etc...). Restaurant is pleasant place to sit outside, but the staff do not appreciate being inconvenienced with food or drink requests.
Finlaco — Google review
The French onion soup was rich and flavorful. It came with a chunk of bread and mozzarella cheese on the side. The stirfry with bell peppers was fresh and not overcooked and not laden with oil. It was wonderful. In the past I’ve gotten chicken Kiev which is deep-fried but also very yummy and the chicken with wine sauce is good. They have good Khmer food and they have an interesting eggplant dish that turns out to be from the Middle East or something. I wanted to take wonderful photos but something happened to my camera. The rooms are not the cleanest, but the beds are comfortable and when I forget things the staff always returns them to me. They’ve also learned my food preferences and they work around my desire to eat less refined carbs. They’ll fix a breakfast omelette and give me fruit instead of bread with jam and jelly.
Susan Smith — Google review
Nice Guesthouse with good and clean rooms and friendly English speaking staff. The Guesthouse lays directly at Mekong River and has balconies directly to the river. So you can see the big Mekong River, the huge Mekong Bridge, the French Tower on the other side of the River plus a bit of the Bambu Bridge. The Guesthouse is directly in the city and everything is in walking distance.

The place is serviceable, food is decent & a good bar that makes perfect B - 52 Cocktails. The staff seem to come from the moon, perhaps that's how it got its name. They would rather play with their outdated electronic toys than give required "service" .Its highly unprofessional & turns potential customers away ,fast .

We stayed in Kampong Cham for 4 days and ate here every day (sometimes lunch and dinner). The Khmer Red Curry was our favourite dish. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the young staff are very friendly and pleasant although a bit shy. They seem to really enjoy their jobs and are happy to greet new customers. We didn't see too many other restaurants that looked like great options on Google Maps, but this one suited us perfectly. Would recommend!

American here. They have a good size menu with Khmer and European food options. Our party had a mango burger that was very good and I had noodles and chicken which I liked a lot and felt like nothing needed to be added. If you like American food this is a good place for you. Mekong Crossing Guesthouse and Restaurants is a casual pub-style eatery located by the waterfront, offering mainly Western dishes like burgers and pasta. The grilled fish with lime and chips comes highly recommended. While the rooms on the 2nd floor lack AC, the friendly staff makes for a pleasant stay. The restaurant offers $1 draft beers and a variety of drinks including strawberry smoothies and ice coffees.
All the staff is amazing and kind, specially the young NouN. Double room with fan, very confortable, clean, 8$ (was a bit warm at beginning but after OK). Good WiFi. Food is good, price in the average. Bikecycle for rent (1,5$) and motorbike (5$)... I try to negotiate every price but they never care. :-(

Nice place with a very friendly staff. A bit of a backpacker/foreigner hub but the food is good and drinks are cheap so you can't blame them. We stayed 2 nights and had a pleasant stay. Nothing fancy for perfect for a night's rest. If you can check out the "temple on the hill" it is about 20km outside but the drive is nice and its view from up top make it worth it entirely.

Confortable room and excellent coffee otherwise nothing positive. The owner is warm and polite til you pay. After that, they don’t care about you. Bad food, no good quality (they use powder for fruit shakes) and expensive prices. They gonna keep your passport if you want to rent a bike/motorbike. Please don’t allow them to do that and keep your documents with you!!

I would say it is one of the finest backpackers restaurants around. Personally, we didn't have the best experience there. They food took a long time to be served, even though it wasn't busy, one of us found an elastic rubber band in her food. Generally speaking, affordable prices with equivalent quality.

Room was clean with comfy bed. Hot shower and free bottle of water. Good value for 7$. Staff was incredible rude, all of them. The worst staff what I ever met in Cambodia. WiFi didn't work well.

Nice place with good food and friendly staff. Our room was situated on the 2nd floor without an AC which we missed to book additionally for 5$. Definitely too hot and not recommandable. They booked us a „VIP“-minivan shuttle to pnohm penh for 5$ per person. Sadly there was nothing „VIP“ about that minivan. The driver stopped every 10 minutes to pick up someone. The van was not safe to ride, our luggage was treated horribly and the driver kept on spitting in the van and throwing his trash out the windows. The worst experience we had so far. Even if it is not the hotels responsibility, I would have liked some more clarification in regards of the service provided. Also they picked us up 45 min late. Leaving kampong Cham at 10:45, we took astonishing 3 1/2 hours to reach Phnom Penh.... this is just for guests that came after us and Plan to take the bus to PP, never use the minivan, you will regret it!

US$1 draft beers, the spicy noodles with pork salad, the strawberry smoothie and ice coffees were good. The spring rolls with pork and the french fries were mediocre. The tuk tuk operator brought me to Smile Restaurant for lunch today. The establishment offers a splendid river outlook, supports underprivileged community members, and serves delicious cuisine. I plan to revisit in order to sample a variety of dishes. I highly recommend this eatery for anyone seeking an authentic Southeast Asian dining experience.
The old reviews for this restaurant were excellent, and we were worries about all the low reviews this restaurant has received in the past year, but this restaurant was excellent for middle sized city. The Khmer food was great; the Khmer curry Vegetarian (52) and the Fried Vegetables (46) were great. The Western food does not seem to be great, and may be the cause of the negative reviews. One friend got the hamburger, and said the meat was fine but the bread was bad. Another friend got the spaghetti bolognese, and said “it tasted like spaghetti bolognese that I would be able to make.” He is not a cook. The seating is spacious and nice; lovely lighting and lots of fans. The cost is reasonable, and it goes to a good cause. All profits goes to a NGO that supports education and vocational training for disadvantaged youth; all staff come from this program.

They used to have several restaurants by the river catering to foreigners. Back then prices were low. It seems that the Pandemic has wiped out most of them. Smile seems to have exploited that situation and raised their prices. The food is okay but certainly nothing to write home about. Dinner last night was average, breakfast this morning with a lukewarm hot coffee below par.
