Garni Gorge is a stunning natural wonder that features an impressive display of basalt rock formations in the form of hexagonal columns along the cliffs. The Symphony of Stones, located below the town, can be reached by taking a 20-minute walk down from Garni village. The gorge is renowned for its massive rock formations that resemble organ pipes and offers visitors a unique and breathtaking spectacle.
Garni in Armenia was an absolute gem, made even more special by our wonderful guide, Anastasia. Her knowledge of the area's history and culture added depth to our experience. Anastasia's warm personality and attention to detail made every moment memorable. As we soaked in the beauty of Garni, it became evident that Anastasia's passion for her country is truly infectious. And to top it off, Anastasia, your voice is truly mesmerizing. Would you please grace us with a song?

One of the most coolest and prettiest locations in all of Kotayk Region, maybe in all of Armenia. If youre a tourist and you visit Garni, be sure to come here too. Its a great experience, and you'll be able to see a beautiful natural phenomenon. Very much recommend.

Amazing thing of nature. So beautiful. Everyone in our group love this place.

This is for the gorge and not for the temple The symphony of stones are basalt columns. Absolutely stunning place where you can hike down a well paved path surrounded by basalt columns. Lots of photo opportunities but do be careful of falling rocks (especially after rain) and loose stones that have recently fallen You can pay for a golf car that drives you up and down but it shares the road with pedestrians so beware
Chi Kit Wong — Google review
The temple at Garni was good, but the gorge was the highlight for me. Massive rock formations resembling organ pipes. There is a very steep way down from the temple, but walk into Garni village (leave the temple and turn right for about 200 metres) and follow a track down into the gorge. A helpful 4 WD driver may offer a lift for $20US but it really is not necessary as it is a fairly easy walk. Turn left at the bottom and wander into this amazing gorge.

Garni temple is historic and has been tested by time. It can be seen on each stone block that creates the visual wonder from its foundation, pillars and the stone roof... The view behind is breath taking as well, trekking with the local guide is a must. Freshly baked bread and candied fruits are also available . One of the best tourist spot when visiting Armenia.

Amazing sight, a must-visit place not far from Yerevan. The infrastructure is good, roads are perfect, and the sceneries are fantastic.

The Garni Gorge is situated 23 km east of Yerevan, Armenia, just below the village of the same name. On a promontory above the gorge the first-century AD Temple of Garni may be seen. Along the sides of the gorge are cliff walls of well-preserved basalt columns, carved out by the Goght River. This portion of the Garni Gorge is typically referred to as the "Symphony of the Stones." It is most easily reached via a road that leads left down the gorge just before reaching the temple of Garni. Another road leads to the gorge through the village, down a cobblestone road, and into the valley. Once in the valley, turning right will lead to Garni Gorge, an 11th-century medieval bridge, and the "Symphony of the Stones". Taking a left will lead along the river past a fish hatchery, up to the Khosrov Forest State Reserve, and a little further Havuts Tar Monastery

Can't believe Unesco allows Armenia to screw up a world heritage site like this. Restoration is executed terribly and ugly without respect of the original decoration. On top of this the view is obscured by all kinds of installations. It's flooded with tourists.

Fabulous place or in fact places to walk and get some magnificent views of Garni and its surrounding area. Highly recommended.
Lewis Mindy — Google review
Wonderful place. You have the Roman temple from 2000 years ago here to visit on the plateau up top and then, down in the valley, the basalt columns, known as Symphony of the Stones. Not very far from Yerevan, about 20 km, and a 45 minute taxi ride. The basalt columns are amazing as they are sometimes hanging over your heads, hexagonal crystals of basalt formed by cooling lava. 200 dram to walk down the metalled pathway to the Stone Symphony isn't very expensive. Highly recommended that you see this while in Armenia. People are very friendly and it is nice even in winter. Visited February 2023, cool weather around 5C but still able to visit.

The Havuts Tar Monastery Complex, situated within the Khosrov forest state reserve, is a hilltop site from the Middle Ages comprising partially ruined churches, fortified walls, and underground chambers. Its name translates to "A gathering place for birds." Accessible by challenging hiking trails, the scenery around the complex is breathtaking. From here, one can catch glimpses of the Garni temple and its adjacent small church.
Absolutely beautiful views from the extensive ruins of this old monastery. The walk isn't easy but it's only fairly short. Take it gently and you'll be fine even with all the gravel. Clear track from the bridge across the stream on the edge of Garni. Take a picnic, relax and enjoy.
Lewis Mindy — Google review
That was quite a nice experien e to hike all the way up especially when it rains. Don't even try to go there by car coz the most enjoyable part is the road to Havuts Tar. A beautiful view of Garni opens from there. And the picnic under the trees was epic ! The monastic complex is ruined but thats what makes the place interesting.

One of the best and interesting places in Armenia. Unfortunately it is not well know among tourists. Must see place. It is interesting to visit in every seasons. You can enjoy 1-2 hours walk to get there. The nature is beautiful and really amazing. The only minus is the fact, that this place is dirty because of dirty visitors. Unfortunately...
Garik H — Google review
The name of the monastery literally means "A gathering place for birds". The monastery is situated inside Khosrov forest state reserve. You can get there hiking which is a little bit hard (at least for me). The scenery here is great. You can see Garni temple and the small church of Garni at distance. One amazing thing about the monastery is its ornaments. I have never seen this kind of small monastery with this amount of ornaments! The ornaments are everywhere! They are so delicate, so neat, beautiful. One sad fact about this place is that it is in ruins! P.S. you will also notice this place when in Garni temple (to the left. it is on a tall hill).

Garni Temple, located about 30 km from Yerevan, is a well-preserved ancient structure dating back to 77 AD. It stands as the only remaining Greek-Romanian colonnaded building in Armenia and post-Soviet countries. Despite undergoing extensive restoration work, the temple still offers an intriguing glimpse into pre-Christian Armenia's cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the site's historical significance and architectural marvel while enjoying the scenic surroundings.
Visiting Garni Temple in Armenia on December 5th, 2023, was a captivating experience. The well-preserved ancient structure stood against a backdrop of favorable weather, enhancing the historical charm. The site's architectural marvel and scenic surroundings make it a must-visit, offering a glimpse into Armenia's rich cultural heritage.

It’s one of the best historical place persevered by the Armenia Goverment. There is the entrance fee and parking fee. It's not too expensive. The temple is Greek style. It's perfect. Surrounding with the beautiful view and mountain

Garni Temple is an absolute gem and a must-visit destination in Armenia. This ancient architectural marvel stands as a testament to the rich history and cultural heritage of the region. The temple's spectacular design and picturesque setting make it a truly awe-inspiring sight to behold. Perched majestically against the backdrop of scenic landscapes, Garni Temple offers visitors a glimpse into Armenia's ancient past and architectural prowess. Exploring the temple grounds is a memorable experience, with each corner revealing intricate details and fascinating stories. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a photography buff, or simply seeking tranquility amidst breathtaking surroundings, Garni Temple has something to offer everyone. I highly recommend adding Garni Temple to your itinerary when visiting Armenia. It's a remarkable site that will leave you with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for the country's rich cultural heritage.

Restoration is not the best but use your imagination! The 9 steps up the temple are thigh high so beware Do visit the roman bath below and check out the mosaic which has an interesting story about the artists and fish (ask your local guide!) You can also see Garni Gorge and the basalt columns down below

Amazing Classical Greek style temple over-looking Garni Gorge. It is the eastern most Roman ruin and the only of its type in Armenia. It is also shrouded in mystery as we don’t have a lot of information regarding the temple (if it is a temple) Only about 30 kms from Yerevan and definitely recommended

Nice, but pricy for a place which seems to have received international funds ( assertion to be checked). Reputation seems overblown to me when compared to other places. Certainly important from a historical perspective but comes out as a curiosity rather than one of these numerous magical places in Armenia.

Noah's Garden, also known as Noyan Aygi, offers an incredible experience for visitors. Upon arrival at Garni, guests may be greeted by rain. However, they can still witness the process of lavash-making through the window and eagerly invite friends to join in on the spectacle. To everyone's surprise, the steward graciously invites them inside to observe firsthand and even provides a lavash as a gesture of hospitality.
We had an amazing time here. We reached Garni and it started raining. We saw through the window a person making the lavash and I excitedly asked my friends to watch the making. To my surprise, the steward invited us in to watch the making of the lavash and offered us one as part of their hospitality. Because of the heavy rain, she offered us a place in her restaurant and then also have us a tour of carpet weaving, wood carving and the pottery section. And then the food came which was delicious. Right from the pulav, the barbeque lanb, potatoes and chicken, the harissa and the cherry kompote.... Lipsmackingly awesome

Symphony of Stones is an otherworldly destination that offers breathtaking views and unique rock formations. The basalt columns, arranged in various patterns and shapes, create a mesmerizing sight that may make visitors feel like they have stepped onto a different planet. Walking along the paved path at the bottom of the valley provides an up-close look at these impressive natural wonders. For those who prefer not to walk back up, there's a small train available for transportation.
A must see place in Armenia, You shouldn’t miss such a beautiful interesting natural site. I am impressed by these huge mountains of symmetric hexagonal stones and long column. The lava of the volcan transformed to these symphony stones. The entrance is 200 Dram only.
Lilian Amatoury — Google review
One of the most remarkable places in Armenia in my opinion. It's 200 dram so almost nothing and if you walk down from the pagan temple it's effectively free. Wonderful walk along the forge floor can take you to a lake or reservoir but simply strolling through the popular section where the symphony of stones is situated us worth a lot. Highly recommended.
Lewis Mindy — Google review
The canyon and the shape of the rocks are incredibly beautiful and special. Definitely a must visit if you're in Garni. Entry is only 200 dram and definitely worth the money and effort to get here

Did not foresee it but ended up being one of my favourite places in Armenia. The sunny but cool day helped with the feeling Amazing basalt columns

If you've ever been to the Giants Causeway in Ireland, this is the upside down version of that. In Ireland you walk on top of the stones, here you walk underneath them. Both places are natural wonders and provide different and beautiful perspectives of what our planet is capable of. Sites like these are a rarity! Take advantage of the opportunity to visit if you're in the area. You won't regret it!
Joey Friedman — Google review
Definitely one of the must sees in this area. It is very close to the Garni temple (you can see it at some point during your tour). You pay a little fee for your entry to the place but that only keeps other cars out so you can enjoy the place in silence and peace. The place itself is very scenic and just amazing. Seeing what nature did is really fascinating. Inhaber been there twice now.

Beautiful and serene place.. with river flowing parallel to the symphony mountain.. there is a coffee shop at the end. Near the coffee shop there was a bunch of guys making videos for you through drone at a nominal price.. it was a good experience 😊

Honestly it was beautiful and breathtaking views. But not a lot to do aside from ride a pony. Tickets were 300 dram. Not many people during my visit which was 4-5 PM on Wednesday.

Symphony off Stones situated in the Gerni region of Armenia. It is said that this natural monument is the result of the collapse of the volcanic rocks. The monument consists of huge paradoxically symmetric hexagon and pentagon basalt columns (nearly 50 meters high). These stones hanging against the gravity resemble an organ, which explains why it is also referred to as “Basalt Organ Pipes”. The soundtrack is provided by the river that flows through the gorge and fills the splendor of the stone with the sound of water. “Symphony of Stones” is a natural monument and protected by law. It is very near to Gerni temple so you can plan your trip accordingly. This is one of the must-see places of Armenia. It is about 28 km from the capital Yerevan. Ticket cost is 200 dram per person.
Jebin R Eipe — Google review
Must visit location. The stone formations are stunning. There are signs under the rocks warning about falling rocks - so be careful. Entrance fee is 200 AMD. Parking can be tricky - we were lucky to find a spot near the entrance. But there were many empty spots down the slope.
Rahul Ranjit — Google review
The views are breathtaking. Never have I seen such amazing rock formations. You can down a paved path to the bottom of the valley, and you will see such alien looking walls all around you. And from the bottom, you can see Garni Temple. If you don't want to walk all the way up, there's a small train taking people back up. At the top, you can buy snacks and souvenirs. Also, there are some people renting horses. It's very unlikely that you will be able to park right next to the entrance.
Gustavo Molitor Porcides — Google review
An amazing place to visit for couples, families and literally for anyone. Don't forget to take a nice camera and a jacket with you. Evening time gets a little bit colder. Also the ticket is very cheap, 200 Drams (<$1) per person.
Gevorg Margaryan — Google review
An unusual place where the shape of the stones resembles chalk. As you walk along the mountain, you wonder how everything is held together. In some places, there are cracks in the rocks, but by gripping them on the side, the neighboring parts prevent them from falling. The route is short, it's a pity they didn't connect it to the temple.
Игорь Маркелов — Google review
The Symphony of stones is like a place from another planet, located not far from Garni. I was lucky enough to take this beauty from a bird's eye view. The low cost of entry definitely justifies itself
Nikita Egorov — Google review
The roads are steep and not friendly for vehicle traffic. It is about half a mile from the drop-off point uphill of the Symphony of Stones. Super cool geological features. There is a train that goes through the path. It's a kids attraction and adults are permitted as well. Horseback riding is also available Pros: cool rocks Cons: stamina may be required
Ann — Google review
The Symphony of Stones, The name already says that you will be faced with the mighty of the nature. You will see the high rocks with sliced layers of stones, and when you see the stone rectangles hanging above you from a height, it will simply take your breath away and nothing else. Highly recommend this place for all who love the nature and hiking.
Andranik Manukyan — Google review
Breathtaking landscape! You should definitely visit the Symphony of Stones if you go to the Temple of Garni. It is a short walk from it and the entrance is 200 AMD. The path goes by the river and it is well maintained.
Dilyan Penev — Google review
Such a wonderful natural wonder. Really worth visiting.
uros maksimovic — Google review
Symphony of Stones is an out-of-the-world place for me. All I did here was stare at the basalt rock formation, wondering how it was formed and how the columns are held together. After looking at it closely, I felt like I was on a different planet for a few seconds. The basalt columns are truly unique and impressive. They are hexagonal in shape and arranged in a variety of patterns. The columns also differ in height and width, which creates a sense of rhythm and movement. I have never seen anything like them before. Symphony of Stones is situated 10 minutes by car from the Temple of Garni. There is a well-maintained paved road to Symphony of Stones and a well-maintained path for a good walk along the Azat River. The entrance fee is only 200 drams, and a toy train is available for those who don't want to walk. It is the one of the best places to see the magic of Mother Earth.
