Oshi Castle, a reconstructed fortress and clan stronghold in Saitama, offers exhibitions on the local history and Samurai. While most of the complex is not original, the castle building itself still stands strong. Visitors can enjoy the well-maintained grounds with multiple seating areas for taking in scenic views, free of charge. However, entrance to the on-site museum building requires a fee of 200.
Another little treasure in Saitama. Not all of the complex is original and most has been rebuilt. The grounds are well kept with many sitting areas to enjoy the views. To enjoy the castle grounds is free but the on site museum building costs ¥200 to enter.

Came here for the Sengoku history, very nice area.

It was closed when I arrived, so couldn't go inside. Finally can only see from the outside. This castle was built on a very large land. The Castle building is still there, standing strong and strong.

I had no idea that Oshijo Castle was a historically important place, but as I was passing by, The Gyoda City Museum, which is attached to the I stopped by and found it to be quite a spectacular place. The park at the castle ruins is well maintained and beautiful. Because it was a weekday, there were not so many visitors, so I was able to enjoy a leisurely tour of the park. Gyoda City is a fascinating place with many historical buildings and ruins.

Oshi Castle Note: parking available The castle grounds and the surrounding areas are free to tour and walk around. They are well kept, have some aesthetic areas for photos and some seating areas to enjoy the peaceful nature of this place. Dogs are also welcomed. Attached to the main castle grounds area is a museum but that does have an entry fee and as I am not wanting to spend much I chose not to go. Overall the place is well preserved but quick to tour if not going to the museum. You can walk around the property in about 10 minutes I would assume the museum adds some time to it.
ROSRO — Google review
Oshi Castle was built by Narita’s family in the 15th century. The history was made into a novel “Nobou no Shiro” and then a movie with the same title. Sometimes on Sundays you can watch a samurai performance. In November there is a samurai procession and gun shooting performance.

I had to wait for my dad while he was renewing his drivers license so I was looking for places I can go with my dog. The castle is very well taken care of and there's also an art gallery right across Oshi Castle. If you're a fan of Japanese history, I recommend reading about Oshi castle before going.
Arisa Janabazar — Google review
Maybe the only "Japanese castle like" thing in Saitama. This is actually the reconstruction of the former Oshi Castle, so do not expect a wooden inside with steep ladders like other ancient castles. Anyway, visiting it you can learn about the history of the area, its samurai clans and the commerce that was once held in Gyōda. Nice to learn some local history.

The park offers scenic views of cherry blossoms and sunrises, making it an excellent destination for history buffs and nature lovers alike.

Historic site, cherry blossom spot, sunrise view spot. The Sakitama ancient tomb park, most commonly called Sakitama Kofun Park even in English, is a park of nine mounded tombs from between the 5th and 7th century. You can walk up to the top of some and into one. There's a nice lawn on one side of the park where you can picnic and kids can play.
Lynda Hogan (InSaitama) — Google review
Beautifully preserved kofun in a pleasant park. You can enter the Shogun Kofun, but get your ticket from the museum first.

Photo 1. Ancient Burial Mound in Sakitama Kofun Park (Saitama Prefecture) This burial mound is just one of 40+ mounds in a cluster of burial mounds (kofun) dating back to the latter half of the 5th century to the beginning of the 7th century. After excavation and conducting research, the Sakitama Ancient Burial Mounds Museum was established in 1969 to preserve nine of the kofun at this site as a public park. Photo 2. Grounds of the Sakitama Ancient Burial Mounds Museum include numerous paths winding around the various mounds (kofun) lined with cherry trees and well manicured grassy areas. Perfect for studying ancient Japanese history, a family picnic, a dog walk, or leisurely stroll. Photo 3. Kodai Hasu No Sato, also known as Ancient Lotuses Park, is a green space that showcases seasonal cherry and lotus blossoms, as well as rice-paddy and straw art. The peak season for the lotus flowers and art is at the end of July, but visitors can still enjoy the impressive scale of the rice art at other times. The park also features a Lotus Museum with interesting information about these beautiful plants.
The rice field mosaic was amazing! It’s worth visiting. Lotus was out of season when I visited here but the park is nice place to take a walk. The fee of the tower is 400yen and free for the park.

Visited the rice paddy art in the end of September. The peak season for the lotus flowers and art is the end of July, but the trip to see the rice art is more than worth it. The scale of it is an impressive site in person. Photos do not do this place justice. The lotus museum/information center below the tower was quite interesting as well! There is lots to do in this area so I recommend making a day trip and visiting the castle and other parks nearby!

Harue Miyoshi — Google review
I missed the lotus season but I was still able to see a few kinds of lotus flowers there. I enjoyed strolling and taking pictures there. There’s a musical background in the park so it was relaxing just to sit and appreciate nature. Entry to the park is free but if you want to view the park and the rice field art from the tower, you need to pay 400 yen. See more photos on my Instagram (@sherylgim).

The best time to watch lotuses is early July at 6-8 am. Lotus blooms only until 10 am! After 10 am the lotus is closed. The lotus blooms for only 4 days, on the first morning it opens halfway, on the second morning completely, on the third it begins to crumble, on the fourth it crumbles.
Google review
Went yesterday (7/9) and the lotus were full-bloomed. But you should get there in the morning when there will be more bloomed petals, apparently they tend to close the petals after noon.

Rice field art is becoming established as a new tradition that colors the rice fields in Gyoda, the rice-producing region. Express pictures and letters on paddy fields using colorful rice plants. Boasting a size of about 2.8 hectares, it was certified as the “World’s Largest Rice Field Art” by the Guinness World Records in 2015. This rice paddy art will be planted in mid-June and harvested in mid-October. The best time to see it is from mid-July to mid-October, from the adjacent Ancient Lotus Hall Observatory. When you visit Gyoda, please stop by and enjoy the magnificent scale of art.

Nice place, several ponds with 120,000 big lotuses which blossom from June to August. There are pedestrian bridges on the ponds. Vending machines with drinks an ice cream, also they sell some snacks. There is a 50 meter high observation tower. But otherwise not so many attractive places nearby.

The Saitama Prefectural Museum of the Sakitama Ancient Burial Mounds is an impressive archaeological site, containing historic burial mounds with a variety of ancient artifacts such as pottery and swords. The museum itself receives a rating of 4 stars, though it could benefit from more detailed information on how the sites were constructed. Visitors with an interest in archeological sites will find this place worth visiting, despite the potential need to time buses or use taxi services for transportation.
This is a very educational little museum. Most of the exhibits had Japanese, English, Korean and Chinese descriptions. Really amazing the age of the artifacts on exhibit. There's a workshop room where you can make a stone jewel necklace for a few hundred yen.

Andrew Thompson — Google review
Amazing place, very reminicent of Cahokia Mounds. A bit of a trek, would recommend either timing the bus or using a taxi service. The museum gets 4 stars because they did not have the level of information I was expecting about the details of how the sites were constructed. Not sure if the issue is that academics do not know, or the person I asked at the museum did not know. (Questions like, how did they bring stones all the way from Tokyo bay, how they seemed to chip/smooth the stones, what the insides of the mounds are filled with) If you have any interest in archeological sites, it is worth visiting.

There were several men who asked for middle-sized dishes, and there were quite a lot of them. I went with my children (a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old), and we received small plates and forks for portioning. That was a really big help. The store staff is very kind and responsive. I went on a Sunday, and it seemed like it was a pretty popular restaurant, so there was a line at noon. The parking lot can accommodate about 10 cars.

Japanese restaurant
和牛懐石 彩々亭 is a charming Japanese restaurant that offers private dining rooms in a cozy atmosphere. The eatery serves seasonal dishes, including fall specialties cooked in clay pots. While the lunch menu is affordable, the regular menu may seem slightly more expensive. The food is of exceptional quality, and the restaurant itself, along with its surroundings, exudes sheer beauty. The staff members are polite and hardworking, ensuring a delightful dining experience for all patrons.
The food was excellent, and the restaurant and surrounding area are absolutely beautiful. The staff were as courteous and diligent as any in Japan, and the dining experience was lovely.

The location is lovely in a historic building and near a park. The service and reception are also fine. Particularly, the hostess accommodated us with a lovely table facing a Japanese courtyard after we were initially seated in a room facing what appeared to be a brightly lit parking lot. The problem is the (lack of a) chef and the fact that the price does not match the food quality in the expensive course menus. The wagyu and the anko kara-age are acceptable, as is the miso soup. But everything else is forgettable, bordering on bad. The sashimi course was suspiciously flavorless and tough (frozen?). The matcha dessert had zero matcha flavor. The beef stew was too sweet, had little depth and was essentially what you would expect from a packaged product from 7-11. Wagyu course had no flaws. Maybe stick with the meat-based menus at this restaurant as kaiseki does not appear to be their strong suit. Prices: food quality aside, we are talking about what should have been a 4500-5500 yen menu that wound up being almost double that per person. At lower prices, many of the complaints above are more forgivable. 2 stars for food. 1 more for good service and setting.

(Translated by Google) There are several private rooms in a comfortable space where you can enjoy your meal slowly. If you don't go early, seasonal ingredients (such as dobin-mushi in autumn) may be out of stock. In fact, there were many. The lunch menu is cheap, but the regular menu may seem a bit pricey.

Unagi restaurant
Maruoka, an unagi restaurant housed in a charming historic residence, provides a dining experience distinct from that of typical set menu establishments. Patrons can relish their delightful offerings like Unaju, Shiroyaki, and Hitsumabushi at an affordable cost. Notably, Maruoka stands out for its reasonably priced eels which are expertly grilled to perfection and devoid of any bones. This popular eatery sees a steady stream of customers frequenting its premises.
(Translated by Google) Unajū, Shiroyaki, Hitsumabushi, whichever you eat, is very delicious! Thank you for the reasonable price! The clerk is also very smiling and wonderful I think that if you learn a little more about customer service, it will become a better store! It was a feast!

A quaint restaurant with an old private house. The service is also not so friendly, like that of a set menu restaurant. The price of eels seems to be lower than other eel restaurants. The eel was fluffy and grilled, and had no bones. It seems to be a popular restaurant with many customers coming and going.

(Translated by Google) After seeing the cherry blossoms at Sakitama Kofun Park, I was looking for a lunch shop and it seems to be open from 11 o'clock, so I went there. The parking lot in front of the store is a little difficult to park. There is also a parking lot on the left side of the shop. When I saw the word-of-mouth communication, I was kept waiting because the customer service was not good, but that was not the case at all. It was a pleasant customer service, and I thought it was the time for a general eel shop to serve. I asked for the eel to be special, but it was very satisfying! I think it is reasonable at this level. The atmosphere of the shop is also nice, and if you go to Gyoda, I would like to visit you again for lunch. I visited at the same time as the store opened, but by the time we finished eating, there were customers waiting in line.

Overpriced unagi don with average quality eel. This is a very local place and nobody speaks any English.

(Translated by Google) Since it was an anniversary, I visited once in a while thinking that it would be luxurious. I arrived at about 18:30 on weekdays, but it was almost full and I was guided to a seat for two people. Even though I have luggage, please use the basket instead of hanging it on the chair... (After this, I noticed the existence of a basket because I recommended the four male guests who had reserved a basket to put their luggage in.) While feeling distrustful of the service, the meal arrived, so I decided to reconsider. The dashi stock for hitsumabushi doesn't arrive easily, and it arrives just when you think it's been forgotten. The essential hitsumabushi is less sauce and a little more. The Unaju seemed to have a lot of sauce on it, and it was delicious. In a place that is hard to go to, this service is … I want to be treated fairly and not just as a regular customer.

Ramen restaurant
Ramen Chop is a popular spot, especially on Sunday afternoons when there might be a wait of around 30 minutes. The donburi is known for its generous portion size and variety of ingredients. The soup is highly praised for its well-balanced flavors, combining animal-based umami with a subtle fish-and-shellfish aroma. Additionally, the thick and chewy noodles are quite satisfying.
(Translated by Google) Visited on Sunday afternoon. Donburi is about 30 minutes after waiting in line. It looks like it has a lot of ingredients. First of all, I will have soup. It's highly complete ~ It's a W soup, but I think it's well-balanced because it has a solid animal-based umami, a fish-and-shellfish scent that doesn't interfere with it, and one doesn't overstate it. And I chose thick noodles. Very thick noodles that are quite chewy and have a satisfying taste. Is the char siu finished in a horohoro and is it roasted? (I didn't know for a moment) It was fragrant and very delicious. The classic Chinese soba onion is also a good accent and can be eaten in no time. It was a treat.
