Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse

Mentioned on
Cultural landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, also known as Aka Renga in Japanese, is a historic brick warehouse that has been transformed into a vibrant shopping and cultural center. Located in the Minato Mirai 21 district of Yokohama, it is surrounded by popular attractions such as the Yokohama Museum of Art, Cosmo World, and the Cup Noodle Museum.
One of the top 5 highlights to visit in Yokohama. Venues and vendors *(including an ice skating park at winter) outside to enjoy. Inside the old customs house features many great restaurants, cafés, and shops. Great place to eat, drink, and pick up a few gifts.
Paul Simonik — Google review
I visited this place many times and specially when there is some special event going on around here. There are many food shops inside and the surrounding view of Yokohama bay is also very beautiful and relaxing. I must say it a good place to visit. Thanks.
Aleena Saleem — Google review
I think whoever visits Yokohama should visit Red Brick Warehouse because it is the origin of Yokohama. Not talking about the ground floor of shopping and restaurant, the 2nd and 3rd floors are more remarkable in term of artistic value and decoration. Highly recommend to take a seat in the balcony at night to experience the night view of Yokohama, which is absolutly chill and memorable. I will upload some such night photos for everyone's reference.
Hideo Kuze — Google review
A great shopping experience awaits those who have walked from Yokohama station, a closer station or an even closer cruise ship. There are plenty of small concessions in the two buildings providing locals and tourists alike with goods to purchase. The restaurants were busy and the queues for the rest rooms were long, but an enjoyable day nonetheless. One of only a few brick built buildings in Yokohama and definitely worth a visit.

Only saw the night version (so maybe there’s more merit to this place if seen during the daytime) but when I was there it was just a place for shopping. Unless you’re into shopping then maybe this place would mean more to you. When we were at the food stalls area, it was very crowded that it was hard to move and you start thinking that it’s as if there was no covid anymore but there is so that makes it a bit worrisome.
Bernadette Estepa (Gaijin Guide) — Google review
Great historical structure that's been converted into shopping/leisure venue. Great food options and many unique shops.
Cris Kelley — Google review
Honestly very surprised of the variety of food and clothes and souvenirs from this place. They are of superb quality and also cater to a wide variety of audiences. They organise events and carnivals nearby to give locals a different side of the world in their experience here, e.g. Oktoberfest

A place with its unique identity that can definitely uplift anyone’s mood without a doubt. The positive vibes flowing throughout the ambience and instantly bring joy to anyone who enters the radius within Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse. It’s no surprise to spend the most part of your day strolling along, pausing to take some pictures and even take a long moment to enjoy the blooms, the fresh air, the sea breeze from nearby port or even looking up to see bits of various species navigating their way above this wonderful place. May the bliss, joy and vibrancy, flow of joy always remain with this top tourist attractions in Yokohama! 🥰

Truly a lovely place to go with family. I’ve been there in winter 2017 & 2018, in the morning & in the night, and it’s all beautiful moment there. Very enjoyable place & surroundings.

Visited area for the holiday market and lights display. Nice are well organized. Nice clear night but this time of year it does get cold so bundle up.

I decided to walk from Yokohama Station to Chinatown, and along the way, I stumbled upon the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse. It appears to be a venue for organizing events, as there was a music concert taking place on that day. The atmosphere was brimming with energy and excitement, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The video posted is not the main event. These were activities held outside.

Salute the creativity of Japanese citizens who turn historical buildings into attractive restaurant buildings. This place has an interesting view, especially from the balcony. The sea and city sides can be clearly seen. The place is clean. The food served is very varied, and delicious. Must try omurice here. For those who bring children, it is mandatory to cheer them up at the Disney Harvest Market, which although the price is a little expensive, but it suits the atmosphere given. Must-see places to go to Yokohama

This is an old customs warehouse(?) that has been adaptively reused as a shopping space and event center (upper floors). It also seems quite trendy with a predominantly young local crowd when I visited on a weekday. However, I felt that most things were quite expensive for a budget tourist like me. Unless you specifically want a photo of the warehouses, the harbor, or want to visit a specific store located, I would not recommend a visit.
Jet Koo — Google review
Beautiful place with a western feeling but very Japanese at the same time. You can find good food and Japanese made products like clothes, leather wallets and toiletries.

Visiting for the Christmas Market, it was an extremely crowded area. I had a great time walking around, but it felt like 42nd street. I went during sunset, so I got to see the sky change colors and the lights turn on. It's beautiful for sure. Be patient with the crowds. Everyone is respectful of your space, so there is no need to push. There's an ice skating ring area. The shops inside the brick warehouses are nice. It's a bit expensive, but there's a huge variety if you're looking to buy your souvenirs there. At the top floor of the building, there's a balcony to chill outside with love seats.
Jessica Wang — Google review
I went to this event 1 week before Christmas. There were lots of people. There were many beautiful things to see. There were around 15 food stands. My friends loved to drink hot wine.
Hanh Nhung Nguyen — Google review
Why is this place famous and popular? The food here is expensive but terrible. There are not many things to see or enjoy. Currently there is a strawberry festival but you need to pay 500 yen for each. I personally recommend you just take a few pictures and enjoy some other places than here.
Jeon San — Google review
Cool shops inside the warehouse. Great place to buy souvenirs and day to day items. The environment, both inside and outside, was also really pretty which makes for a great place for photos. There was also a food court inside which has a few options. However, the food is mediocre compared to the other options in Japan.
fung lucas — Google review
Charming Christmas market going on in December. Crowds are relatively controlled compared to the Tokyo Christmas Market, and the red brick warehouse plus coast gives it a nice backdrop. Although still very crowded, the paved areas are easy to walk around compared to the muddy mess at the Tokyo Xmas market. Food and drinks are quite expensive, but that is typical with these festive events, the main draw is the festive spirit and mood. There is also an ice skating rink set up outdoors, it was delightful watching the ice skaters having a great time.

Chichibu Shrine

Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Chichibu Shrine is a well-known Shinto shrine that attracts visitors with its intricate carvings and sculptures as well as numerous festivals and events. It is one of the three famous shrines in Chichibu, along with Mitsumine Shrine and Hodosan Shrine. While many people are familiar with the "Three Monkey" sculptures at Nikko Toshogu, few know that there is another version embodying the principle of listening, observing, and talking to prevent fights.
A lot of shrines seem very similar to me but this one is worth a visit. After you buy your omikuji fortune paper, you dip it in a pond to reveal the fortune. I really enjoyed this! Also, the charms at the shrine are very cute. I will go back come the new year to buy one for myself and my friends. Lastly, it’s worth it to go on December 3rd for the night festival (UNESCO). The fireworks and the floats are beautiful. It is very cold though so stay warm.
Jenna Robineau — Google review
The shrine is beautiful with very nice wooden painting and carving on the entire building. It can get very crowded during the new year week. There are a lot of street food stalls during this time. Some traditional Japanese Shinto ceremonies are also carried out around this time.
Saurabh — Google review
Very good location with an interesting history. The monkeys illustrated here have the opposite positive meaning to those in Nikko - instead of see/speak/hear no evil, they encourage people to see/speak/hear good
Mark Williams — Google review
One of the 3 famous shrines in Chichibu (i.e. Mitsumine Shrine, Chichibu Shrine, Hodosan Shrine). Most people knows the "Three Monkey" sculptures at Nikko Toshogu, embodying the proverbial principle "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". However, only few know there is another version of "Three Monkey" as opposed to that of Nikko Toshogu, embodying "Listen Well, Observe Carefully, and Talk to prevent fights". Besides, there were also sculptures like "Child Treasure Child-rearing Tiger" and "Bridging Dragon" made by famous sculptor Hidari Jingoro

Colorful yet had a very good vibe, despite not being that big. They sell omikujis with special ink so that when you get them in the water they become readable.

I was in Chichibu for the night festival. This event was organized by the jinja. There were fireworks and parade with music and dance. It was an enjoyable and interesting event.

Very nice shrine located in the middle of chichibu. It's within walking distance of everything major in town. Parking is available at the shrine but limited in the surrounding area.

Some nice areas like a small island surrounded by water - saw a cat walk across a stepping stone and did nighttime photography. Easy to get to, but not a key attraction. Worth checking out if you're passing by.

Roadside station close to, but not on, the Hanazono interchange of the Kanetsu expressway. It has everything you need for a break on a road trip. There is an indoor rest area, two eateries plus a coffee van, a souvenir shop, vending machines, a playground, an indoor play area, a smoking area and toilets. They have the area's dashi on display and a novelty shop selling character goods of the city mascot "Fucchan". In that shop one wall is a chalk board

This service area contains a dining area, retail space, and a mini information area. What makes this place stand out is that it sells outlet priced confectionery such as baum kuchen and other baked goods in plain clear packaging that are perfectly fine to eat but not suitable for sale as gifts. The adjacent dining area and retail space seeks regional speciality produce such as negi based produce and upstairs there is a bakery and fukkachan souvenir shop and children's play area.

Beware of this pool. i regret going to this pool. the facility is super old and outdated so different from the pictures probably that is why taking pictures inside the pool facility even on the pool side is prohibited cause they don’t want to show you what the place really looks like inside! and the worst is the price the entrance fee is 2000 yen for adults and 1000 yen for kids for 3 HOURS ONLY! and you have to pay 200 yen every 30 min if you want to stay more than 3 hours! i dont think that it’s worth the money considering this place is super old and there are only 3 pools. the wave pool is super small so it would it really be crowded on weekends it’s more like a children’s pool size the second one is the nagareru pool and the third one is the infant pool. the floor was slimy just filthy! i went here because this was on the 3rd place in IKOYO a japanese website recommending places for kids i don’t really get how this place is on 3rd place its the worst and most expensive pool i’ve been to if you’re gonna pay 2000 yen might as well go to tokyo summerland or for indoor pool i recommend carribean indoor pool in gunma or hawaiians. there are many cheaper pool in kanto area which is more enjoyable. this place is not totally worth it! would not come here again!

(Translated by Google) There is a wave pool, lazy river, jacuzzi, and 25m pool that you can enjoy all year round. The entrance fee is a little expensive, but the kids enjoy it when we go once in a while. The ticket vending machine where you buy the admission fee has a touch screen, but it was so cluttered that it was hard to understand and I was confused about where to press. You can also pay with Negi, a currency that can be used within Fukaya City. At the counter, a customer from out of town and the clerk were arguing, and the customer finally got angry. There are not enough store staff and they lack knowledge. (Translated by Google) Purchase Asoview after comparing prices with the counter! This facility seems to have a higher usage fee for users who live in the city. I found a 30% discount ticket on Asoview, bought it in advance, and tried to use it at the counter on the day, but on the day I was told that it was half price for elementary school students, so I was advised to cancel my Asoview ticket and entered at half price. After using the service, I contacted Asoview Support to inform them that I wanted to cancel, but they told me that they couldn't cancel due to policy, so I ended up paying more than the regular price for my elementary school child. Since I live in Tokyo, it is difficult to get a repeat ticket within the ticket deadline considering travel time and transportation costs. The facilities were excellent, and the children were able to play for long periods of time without getting bored, and in the end, we received a compliment saying, ``I don't want to go home yet.'' A special feature is the air play slide, which requires an additional fee to use. In terms of a building, you are sliding down from a height equivalent to 2 or 3 floors, but there was a step in the middle of the incline, so your body was floating in the air. The children were so excited that they kept climbing and sliding until the end of the day. Although I am still confused about the tickets, I think the children had a great time playing and had a good experience, so overall I think it is a very good facility.
