Talkeetna is unique and this museum document why. Railroad, mountaineering, and town history: pro director Sue can give you a low-down.
Micaela Ayers — Google review
There are 3 buildings that encompass the whole museum. The museum is extensive and covers the history of Talkeetna, it’s people, and Denali climbers. Highly recommend visiting!
Tyler Norris — Google review
The museum packs a lot into what looks like a small building. While the museum is self-guided, we were very lucky to get a tour from the museum director, Autumn. There are a variety of items from Talkeetna and the greater area. You could easily spend a hour just looking at the Talkeetna diorama. A must visit when in Talkeetna, especially if you like mining, climbing, or trains.
Ann Farina — Google review
Absolutely informative. Sue was amazing! Learned a lot!
Greg Swartz — Google review
We visited the museum twice. It has a nice collection of historical items, an amazing Denali model room and a must see diorama of Talkeetna. Must also mention the 2 cabins we were able to view, set up as they would have been years ago.
Kelly Kampen — Google review
An interesting small-town museum. The two movies are worth the price of admission. One movie was about the building of the railriad from Seward to Fairbanks, and the other was about climbing Denali.
Susan Alton — Google review
Terrific little museum with excellent displays about the history of the town, a video about the building of the local railroad (there may be more than one video), and a separate display about the history of climbing Mt Denali. While you're there, take a walk to the local cemetery - besides seeing some tombstone history of local residents, looking for the larger memorial about people who died climbing Denali.
Dan Kronstadt — Google review
Wonderful! Well worth a visit! The Denali building with the 3-D topographical map of Denali…very cool!
Shelly Durkee — Google review
Adorable museum. Lots of history packed into 3 small buildings. And we were greeted by the current town mayor, Aurora.
Yvonne Stevens — Google review
It looked so tiny from the outside but it's actually 3 buildings full of very interesting history and artifacts. We spent over an hour there and it was well worth the cost of admission. The denali exhibit is phenomenal!
Amanda Webb — Google review
Came across this place during the limited time we had in Talkeetna. I think most people are put off by the admission prices being displayed on entrance. Definitely worth the price; a wealth of information in there and a couple of short films running on a loop, that you can watch. Was nice to visit a museum and not be crowded by too many people.
Cameron de Jonge (Cameron) — Google review
Interesting place with 2 interesting videos, one on building the Akaska Railway, and a second on climbing Denali. We spent over an hour over the 3 buildings that make up the museum.

Shopping
Great place to shop for unique Alaska souvenirs, especially artsy ones. They highlight many local artists that create everything from jewelry, dishware, paintings, sculptures, pottery, clothing, glassware, woodwork, etc... They do have some of the typical souvenirs such as t-shirts and magnets, but it's primarily artwork. It was fun just walking around admiring all the artists work. Nice place to shop for unique artwork made by local artists.
LeWayne Ballard — Google review
Beautiful shop with all sorts of Alaskan made items from artwork to locally made teas and honey. Friendly staff and a nice place to just walk through. A great stop for anyone visiting who wants to get a souvenir and support the local area

This is a beautiful store with lots of different types of gift items and clothing.
Joss Slagle — Google review
we went into The Dancing Leaf Gallery where they had tons of art from local artists. All kinds of things. We picked up a pottery coffee mug, and Debra got a copper bracelet that was knitted with glass beads. It was really neat. Melissa, the shopkeeper, used to give the museum speech to visitors so she was really knowledgeable about the town, the history and got really excited talking to us about it because she could tell we were eager to hear more. A great shop!
Dr. Matt and Debra St. John — Google review
Now that I'm back home looking through the children's book that I bought here, I found out that the lady ripped me off. The book "We are water protectors" actually costs $17.99 US but she charged me $24.50 US which is the value for Canadian dollars. I had to leave this review cuz I hope no other foreign tourists have this kind of unpleasant experience. Don't rip off foreign tourists!!!!
Hyunseung Kang — Google review
Wonderful Store, beautiful artwork and incredibly helpful salespeople. Especially Melissa, she went above and beyond to make sure we got exactly what we needed and went the extra mile to ensure an incredible customer service experience. Thank you!

Dancing Leaf is my “go to” spot for gifts for any occasion. The quality and variety are excellent, and the shop features local artists. The shop itself is hand hewn by the owners, and is a stunning example of how Alaskans do things! Check it OUT!!

Nagley's Store - Since 1921

Mentioned on
Convenience store
Sights & Landmarks
Nagley's Store, a historic establishment dating back to 1921, has been an integral part of Talkeetna for nearly a century. Originally catering to miners and trappers, the store is renowned for its rich history and local significance. The iconic building, constructed from indigenous materials, was unfortunately destroyed by fire in 1997 but was subsequently rebuilt.
This is a cute little store and probably the only store in the town that has medicine! Although it’s not the best selection, it’s always something. They also have a bar, coffee and other items! Definitely go upstairs for some fun Alaska items as well!
Justin Fravel — Google review
I saw the reviews about the nasty staff. NOT entirely true! I was welcomed when I came in, and when I was checking out the cashier was quiet, seemingly rude. I asked a question and then we started to talk and cracked a few jokes. Just breaking the ice is a great way to let the local people know that you aren’t just a rude customer. The only reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars is that it wasn’t stocked. No Coke, who does that?
Ellen Vollor — Google review
Overworked, underpaid, not appreciated at all. You will get no gratification from this job other than meeting the cool locals. The boss acts like he is your friend and things when you do everything he wants but if you have doctors appointments you better cancel them, kids practices and games better not even think about asking for that time off either. But boss would come in and talk about how he gets to go to anchorage and watch his kids play. And if you fall for the work here and live in our cabin trap you will never make any money its a nice cabin but you can see thru the walls in some spots, he shut off all the floor heaters in the back of the house so it does not stay warm back there very well, would not have the chimney swept even tho i brought it to his attention and the neighbors did as well. He is overall a crook in my opinion. Nagleys is a great store in a great town full of wonderful people and places to see but the definetly need new management for sure. Heed my warning or youll find out first hand.
Roy Woodfield — Google review
The man working the store was friendly with me and even helped me track down the mayor, Denali. I was able to grab a delicious latte here without having to wait in the long line for the only coffee shop in town.
Grayson Briggs — Google review
If you’re on a Princess land and cruise or just cruise tour then your bus most likely stops here, probably to kill time. Princess McKinley Lodge is about 40-50mins from Talkeeta and if they bused everyone in all at the same time then it would be chaos and no where to eat downside buuuut upside, you can stop at Nagley’s grab some soda, snacks, ramen, alcohol (locally sourced), sundries, souvenirs all reasonable priced! The ramen came in clutch the next day when it was super cold and we had to wait for our bus at 2pm when checkout was at 11. After reading others reviews I realized the low scores were due to lack of customer service, thankfully we didn’t experience that so 5/5 =)
Tawny Valdez — Google review
I love Nagley's, and not just because they had a cat who was mayor, or the fact that my grandparents were Anthony & Mary Jurasek from back in the day (local legends in that Talkeetna/Trapper Creek area I tell ya what), but because it is truly a staple to the history of the community of that area, but also the best place to buy liquor in downtown Talkeetna amen 🤘🤣💚🤘🍻🖖💯

We were about to jump out and visit the little town of Talkeetna for the first time when I realized that we were famished and had only eaten a Cliff Bar for breakfast. It's pretty funny when you are running around like we are, how you can literally forget to eat but thankfully, right around the time that I am overdue to eat I sneeze and realize it's time to eat. So I sneezed, and we looked over to see Nagley's Store. It's a local landmark and has been written about in all kinds of travel guides and magazine articles. They had a restaurant called West Rib Pub and Grill. We walked in and the place was literally, well, 100 years old. It's been around 100 years. The floor creaked. There was a soft spot I avoided. The walls were lined with a century of antiques and niceties. We were of course greeted instantly by a friendly Alaskan who was doing 3 jobs at 1 time. It's safe to assume that the average alaskan can perform at least 20 jobs well at any given time. I have never seen such a capable group of people. We walked back to the restaurant area and were greated by a young lady who said something to the effect of "two?" I replied yes and she just said 'come on". She wasn't rude because she had a grin but I could tell she was a pretty tough woman. And she was wearing waders.... We sat in the back of the restaurant and we saw they had Caribou chili fries, Caribou burgers and all kinds of other awesomeness. So we ordered what I mentioned and we were super excited even with a mounted Caribou looking at us from across the restaurant. We learned in Talkeetna that we could not be in a hurry, nor tear the town up, or even quickly browse a business. I believe it's called Talkeetna.... because the people like to Talk so much! Even the depressed people will absolutely talk your ear off once they know you care and it is precious! We were sitting not being in a hurry, when a big beautiful and well fed Persian cat just came walking by us at the restaurant. I of course figured that if there is a cat in a restaurant that is not Chinese, I should talk to and pet the cat. I did, but it was too busy living its life to pay much attention to me. Then, the server who was the awesome pretty intense lady turned into an 8 year old girl and started talking to and grabbing up the cat. The server explained to us that this was the current mayor of Talkeetna. She spoke of Stubbs, the original winner of an election via write in vote, who reigned for 20 years. Then, in 2017, Stubbs passed on, and the same family eventually had Denali and Princess, who locals now say are the mayor and co mayor. They do politics interesting here we discovered. The food was awesome, the service perfect, and the experience was one that I recommend any good person have :-) Oh, and we were SO THANKFUL to find 4 packs of Reeds Zero Ginger Ale. It was literally the only thing we had to drink for a week other than water and coffee. We LOVE this landmark.
Dr. Matt and Debra St. John — Google review
Over priced tourist trap. $25 for 2 small bottles of water and 2 small cans of pringles. Just drive down the road to Cubby's or the gas station.
Jason Forstner — Google review
Can't get over how cheap the coffee is. I got a 16oz Shot in the Dark: Cup of coffee with 2 espresso shots, for only $2! across the street at one of those little sheds near the large outdoor seating area has breakfast burritos for only $8 compared to the other places for $16. But seriously, though all of their coffee drinks were really Cheap

Talkeetna Riverfront Park is a picturesque spot located at the confluence of the Susitna, Chulitna, and Talkeetna rivers. It offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and is a popular place for leisurely strolls. During summer, visitors can enjoy watching rafters and boaters on the rivers. The park features Belle's Interpretive Trail, which provides educational insights into local history and offers close-up views of the river.
A beautiful viewing area of the river and, most importantly, the Denali Mountain range. On our visit, the weather gods helped us with a semi-clear view of the big 3, Hunter, Foraker, and Denali.

Stopped by on a clear day to see if we could see Denali, snow packed but beautiful no one else was there. Trail wasn’t clear but we only went for the views.
Jessica Johnson — Google review
Beautiful place to spend some time in Talkeetna. The riverfront offers great views of Denali when the weather is cooperating. People were fishing off the bank and it’s a good place to see the river boats fly by. The trail is well maintained and pretty busy. Talkeetna is a great town. It’s worth spending some time in!
Norma Arnold — Google review
Stumbled on this place while walking around in Talkeetna. Walked down Belle's Interpretive Trail, along the Talkeetna River, around the cabins, and around the park. It was a cloudy day, so was unable to see Denali from the lookout point. The Interpretive Trail was very informative and educational as there were many signs along the tour. I had no idea about Belle MacDonald and her impact on Talkeetna. The trail along the river gave a great up close view of the river. There were quite a few fishermen who were catching some good sized fish from the river. Overall, the park was nice, clean, and had something for everyone.

Cute little town. Came doing off season so lot of shops were closed. But views of Denali were crystal clear today. Also make sure you stop at the overlook on your way into or of this town gives a higher elevation view of Denali and surrounding mountains
Brent Smith — Google review
A great place to enjoy a walk and stroll along the river’s edge of the Talkeetna River and even walk over to the railroad bridge. All is easily found from a parking area where the river is just a short ways away...and you might even see Denali :-)

Talkeetna is full of history!!! Also beautiful river front. I love this town!!! Great food, awesome shops for anything Alaskan that you can imagine. The town hotel even has stories of being haunted by old miners. If you can try an avoid the train bringing in tourists from cruise ships. If you can't, they come and go pretty quick. Don't miss Talkeetna!!!

With its cozy patio seating and occasional live music performances, it provides a delightful dining experience. With over 12 different types of pizza available, or just build your own. It's really hard to choose. But any pizza I've ordered there has been amazing. The salads are large with many choices. They have music 🎵🎶 spring through fall every weekend. Fresh Alaska beers 🍻. If you're in the little quaint town of Talkeetna stop by and say hi and enjoy a pie.

We went to Mountain high pizza on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. The ambience was really friendly and vibrant and the staff were very friendly and polite. We ordered the jalapeño poppers and a veggie pizza. One of us were vegan and the restaurant had a vegan option to replace the cheese with a vegan cheese. The pets and the pizza were decent. The crust was good. However both dishes lacked a bit of seasoning.
Balaji G. — Google review
First time visit! Very friendly and helpful service. We ordered two large pizzas that came to $72 without the tip. The first was “Main Street Gossip” which was pretty good! The second was the “Mountain High Pizza Pie” which was a culinary experience that we will probably not ever get again. It basically tasted like a weeks worth of leftovers from the fridge all mixed together. I’m sure some people love it. It was edible but not delicious. We would definitely come back to try other items on the menu!
Amanda Daniels — Google review
Pizzas delicious but more europian style than American, which we like. A relaxed place where you can enjoy outdoor sitting even in a rainy day. We were lucky to find live music. They have a bar outdoors too
T F — Google review
We came in for lunch and we were treated to excellent service, great food, and a friendly atmosphere. The pizzas are big, so as a group of 4 my wife and I shared a pizza and salad. The three rivers salad was huge! Tzatziki dressing was creamy and tasty. The pizza was tasty and the crust was on point. Just the right amount of crunch, but still soft. They even got me extra marinara to dip the crust in, which I was grateful for. It was a bit overcast and cold, but you could sit outside. I have been here once before in 2021, and it is still “the best pizza in Talkeetna!😜” It would be a great pizza in Colorado too. Definitely eat here if you get the chance. The cookies were huge saucers for the drive on to Denali…

$29 for a large carnivore pizza was the right size for my girlfriend and me. Also had (for a separate meal) the large calzone for $29 and fed the two of us. Wait time for each meal was 25 to 30 minutes on a weeknight in July. Well worth the wait.

Our first time was in April when it was still slushie and snowy. Our second time we knew we were coming here. We came here first both times. We enjoy the "Main street gossip" pizza 🍕. It is pricey, but we have loved it each time. You can sit inside or outside, buy merchandise, and they had large cranberry white chocolate cookies for 3 bucks. Best cookie I have ever had . I loved it. 😍 We enjoy trying new places and it was worth the trip both times! We have only tried the pizza and cannot comment on the other foods. We have our sticker and pen to remember the place. They were friendly staff here and the place looks beautiful. They do have restrooms here. It was not usual for me to see a washer and dryer inside but it was clean and cool to see.

bomb 💣 pizza with lots of cheese and covered in toppings!!! there was a slight miscommunication when I asked for a customized pizza and they cooked & brought out the missing topping on the side promptly even though I said not to worry with it. I was thrilled to find such a great spot with generous portions. highly recommend!!!

Came here for lunch while visiting Talkeetna for the day. We came a little before opening since there were some large tour groups in town. Since it was opening, there was no line and plenty of tables to choose from. Ordered the large Mountain High Pizza that comes with over 30 ingredients. I wasn't sure how that many ingredients would come together, but it went well together and didn't taste like a mashup of ingredients. Sat outside as the weather was perfect and there were plenty of tables. Pizza was delivered to the able in about 15 minutes and looked great. It was 8 large slices that was perfect for sharing. There was a band playing later in the evening, but we left before they started. Walked by later in the evening when the band was playing and it was completed packed. Overall, good service, food, and atmosphere.

If you’re in the area, this gem is a must-try for food enthusiasts. The moment I took my first bite, I was blown away by the burst of flavors. The spinach bread was perfectly baked, had a rich and savory taste that was incredibly satisfying. Not only did the Spinach Bread exceed my expectations, but I also had the opportunity to try their Thai Curry, and it was equally phenomenal. Visiting Talkeetna and not trying Talkeetna Spinach Bread would be a missed opportunity.

Food was great, got 2 orders of famous spinach bread for our family of 4 to try & to see what all the hype was about. It was good! Only complaint- way overpriced $9 per bread for a small appetizer out of an airstream food truck is unreasonable. Prob won’t go back- my money will go further elsewhere. Oh and it’s cash only- no cards.

We had been excited to eat here for many months and it DID NOT disappoint! As huge garlic lovers, the spinach bread, with huge chunks of garlic and tons of cheese is absolute heaven, we could eat it everyday. We also loved the Brazilian Limeade, which was perfectly creamy and refreshing. This spot is a MUST in town! Just make sure to have cash on you (Nagley's has an ATM if you need it)!

Nice cafe in Talkeetna with plenty of healthier options. Came here for breakfast this past weekend. We ordered ahead online which you can do through their website--I recommend this especially during the busy summer! Everything was hot and ready for us when we arrived. I got the not-a-breakfast burrito which I didn't ask but based on the ingredients I'm pretty sure it's vegan. It was delicious and filling. My husband got the smoked salmon bagel and really enjoyed it. Good coffee too, and my husband got their house made rhubarb soda which was great. I've been here once before just to get bakery goods and those were all great too--especially their "Kimmie" cookies! Someday I'll come back and try their lunch menu. Their pizza looks good too, which they offer only a few days a week in the evening.

Prices are high, but you get good food. We had a special sandwich and veggie chili. Both exceeded expectations! The bread that came with the chili ( I believe was rye sunflower seed ) was amazing! I’m a local and this is my first time eating here. I have no idea why I haven’t eaten here yet. But dang!!! We also got a slice of lemon cranberry poppy coffee cake, the slice was generous. We got orange juice and peppermint tea too. They have to-go options available and their to-go packages are eco friendly! Very surprised at that! I would suggest eating here. The ladies behind the counter helped me in my decision on if I want spinach on my pizza for pizza night, I told them of my experience with another locals pizza place and their spinach pizza( it was a bad experience ). I explained I was concerned about it tasting like fish like the other place and was wondering if they sauté it first. The lady was put back a bit at such a description of my past experience with local pizza. She said it’s fresh but it gets wilted in the wood fired oven. I think we will try it again from this new to us place. *We went back later in the day and got pizza. ONG was it good!!!! We got the creamy garlic 4 cheese and the pepperoni. Sooooo good!!!

Nostalgic little café in the woods. I like the idea behind this place. Natural, organic, “REAL FOOD” from scratch. It’s a GREAT objective, but food needs to taste great as well. I’m always a matcha girl, but I didn’t like the matcha here. It tasted more watery, rather than creamy. And it had a spicy note of flavor to it, like a spiced chai, but with a lot more kick. I personally don’t think the flavors go well together but then again I like my matcha on the sweet side, sometimes with a splash of coconut. I did enjoy the Mexican chocolate chai, it tasted, not far from as I had imagined it, and I enjoyed the kick it had since the notes pair nicely together, but did wish it had a bit more cream. The quiche was pretty good, my kids enjoyed it, but I wasn’t a fan of the crust, which was the part I was most looking forward to since it was gluten free. It was extremely dry and even hard to cut. I think it was made with corn meal. Personally I’d go with a flaky sour cream gf ‘pie’ crust. There’s many ways to make it but I do mine with an all purpose gluten free flour, baking powder, salt, butter, sour cream, etc. It would pair flavorful with this quiche. The eggs on the other hand were to the perfect texture. It said it came with meat but the generous ‘slice’ I got only had only a few very very small pieces. But as I know not every slice is going to be equal, so I may have just ended up with a lacking slice. I still would have enjoyed more meat like in the photos. It also came with gluten free bread. They were also very generous with the bread slices, which were mostly end pieces but still good nonetheless. However, since the gf bread is a more dense, dry bread rather than a soft moist bread, I would have preferred it heated up a bit more because they were REALLY hard, like cardboard, but after taking them home, heating them up and adding some butter they were enjoyable. I also ordered a sandwich, which didn’t quite look like the ones on Facebook. I don’t know if I would get it again. Being the gf bread I had to take it apart and heat up the bread along with meat so it wasn’t so dry. I was mostly looking forward to the balsamic sauce, but it was not quite enough for dry gluten free bread and as you can see in the photos it was only on one side of the sandwich, which left the other side bland. So I did end up having to take it home and added some flavor and more sauce I ended up having to whip up for it. Originally, my least favorite thing was the carrot ginger soup. It was supposedly the special, but at $10.50, not including tax and tip, it wasn’t worth even a quarter of that. I did take it home and added some flavor to it. I started with some pink Himalayan salt, a bit of cinnamon, cardamom may have been good but I decided against it. I also wanted to make it a little sweet and creamy so I added some homemade sweet cream I had and it completely changed the entire flavor of the soup. My kids were even fighting over it! I took a photo of it, after slightly stirring in the cream and it even looks tastier. It was 10 out of 10 after some tweaking. I can say with confidence that the ingredients they did use were real/natural in any case and in the end it made for a delicious soup. They have a really great selection of options, of not only drinks but food as well. Even beer and wine. Their pizzas I saw online look really good. I don’t drink coffee but my friend said hers was good. They had a decent selection of sweets as well. I’m not a big fan of sugary foods, but thought since I was traveling it would be nice to get a few gf treats. All delicious. My favorite was their fudge/chocolate bars, definitely a guilty pleasure and probably the cream of the crop for chocolate fanatics. I suggest trying a dessert and maybe some for the road. I want to be clear I do recommend trying this cafe, but I believe constructive criticism from the customers who keep places like this going, can only help grow and make greater. I’d love to try again sometime down the road and even switch my rating from 4 stars to a 5.

I have to agree with all the reviews here. Nice little place in the woods. We have breakfast and it was delicious as you can see in the pictures. Staff are friendly and the place is super clean and neat. Family environment.

We stopped here for breakfast on the way back from Talkeetna to Palmer. A fabulous eatery with staple breakfast choices and imaginative ones as well. The bakery selection looked like something you could encounter in NYC. Everything looked so good that it was really hard to choose.

I recent visited the Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe for breakfast, and it was simply delicious. My order wasn't anything over the top - black drip coffee and Talkeetna Toast (avocado toast with tomato, micro greens, and seeds on freshly baked bread) - but it was PHENOMENAL. The fresh ingredients, especially the homemade bread, sent this simple breakfast completely over the edge. We spent about 10 days in Alaska, and this was by far one of my favorite meals... A true testimony to the impact of "from-scratch" food and fresh ingredients. As an added bonus, they had fresh, homemade vegan almond macaroons! 🤤 Pros: Homemade bread, fresh ingredients, good vibes overall

Such a lovely, local restaurant! Great place for breakfast or lunch with a great range of options, including vegetarian fare. I would highly recommend the Fancy Grilled Cheese. Fresh homemade baked goods as well, which are delicious. Cannot recommend enough that you dine here!

The food took longer than what I would consider normal but was delicious still! This place is adorable. They have great coffee and breakfast sandwiches. They have a cute seating area.

Such a great find! Recommend to me by an AK local. Food and staff are divine. I ordered the Soup/Sandwich combo. Chili was stellar. Great Vegan friendly options. And oh the homemade bread. I ordered some desserts to take to my visit with grandma. Will go again!

The place smells amazing with such sweet and friendly staff. So much homemade goodness! The veggie quiche was full of tasty greens and came out hot. The whole wheat bagel with smoked salmon had great flavor without overwhelming the flaky salmon with too much smoke. I didn't get to try the avocado toast but it looked great, good size portion with lots of avocado. The cinnamon walnut ruggelach wasn't too sweet. I really enjoyed the cardamom bun. Definitely make a point to go but remember home made food takes time :)

Came before season and the beginning of season. Before was perfect. Got the cheese bread and some fried eggs with a Chai. After season started was a little disappointing because they change to premade choices on the food due to high volume of people, but was still good and so far the only reasonably priced place near the property I'm looking to purchase.

Located in Talkeetna, West Rib Pub & Grill offers a rustic and laid-back atmosphere, perfect for enjoying American staples like burgers and Alaskan King Crab legs. The country-style space features a bar area with beer on tap and outdoor seating options. Visitors can savor dishes such as the Caribou Northern Lights Burger or indulge in the 1 lb Alaskan King Crab leg.
We came on Sunday 8/22 on our way back to Anchorage from Denali and stopped here because my wife was craving ‘Alaskan King Crab’. Here are our feedback: 🦀Very country, laid back, bar and pub atmosphere. You can sit at the bar area inside or outdoor. There is no dining indoor sitting other than a few tables in the bar areas. 🦀 we ordered the Caribou ‘Northern Lights’ Burger and the 1 lb Alaskan King Crab leg. 🦀 My wife really enjoyed her King Crab. ‘It really hit the spot’ she said. When you have a pregnant🤰🏻wife, that’s when you know you’re in a happy place. 🦀It was my first time trying the Caribou burger and it was better than I expected. Not the best burger I’ve ever had because I just love 💕 my BEEF burger. Nevertheless it was a delicious burger that I would definitely get again. 🦀 Tip: the bathroom is at the entrance before you enter the restaurant. And it was only the host and a teenage boy working because they’re short staffed so expect a wait to be seated and get to be waited on. 🦀Overall, we highly recommend ‘West Rib Pub & Grill’. Big city taste 😋 in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Would definitely return if we ever get a chance to be back in Talkeetna!

Food was good. I had the Caribou chili and it was hearty and loaded with veggies. My wife had the Caribou burger. Very lean and tasty. Beer battered fried were crispy and flavorful. Nice selection of Alaskan beers on tap. Reasonable prices and great patio dining.

Went there because it sounded like a neat place. Had the caribou chili and house salad. My wife got the caribou burger and fries. Not stingy with portions. Pretty tasty meal. Service was fine. Out the door with tip $30.00.

Burgers were pretty burnt, took an hour and a half to arrive, server was bitchy and never came around. One great thing about this place was the beer was pretty good. Also the feta fries were really good.

I didn't have the privilege of dining here due to tight scheduling. However, I did have a very pleasant experience with the owner, his daughter and "The Mayor". Father, daughter and "The Mayor" were super pleasant and I hope to dine here soon.

Talkeetna Roadhouse offers a variety of accommodation options, from historic stays at the roadhouse itself to more luxurious lodges and rustic Airbnbs nearby. The owner, Trisha, is praised for her COVID-conscious approach and warm hospitality. Guests appreciate the delicious cookies and amazing breakfast featuring reindeer sausage, thick-cut bacon, and sourdough starter dating back to 1902.
my number 1 fav place to stay of all time. i love everything about this house. i love its cute decoration, it’s like staying at Santa house. their cinnamon roll is amazing!! i would really love to go back here again in the future.

Our favorite place to get cookies, hot chocolate, lunch or pie after a day of sledding. But since the scam-demic they are NOT open. I’m a local, each time I drive by they are locked up. Always! You can’t wash your clothes, get food, nothing. Unless you reserve a room then it’s like you’re locked in. It’s strange. I love this place but since 2020 it’s gone down hill massively. I miss it. I can not in good conscience suggest a place that is still treating people like it’s 2020. They treat locals like they are walking contagions but travelers from out of state like royalty, like they are gods or somehow better than the rest of us. I am a local, 25 years in Alaska. This is NOT Alaskan behavior.

My husband and I recently lodged at the Roadhouse for almost 2 weeks. The first half of our trip, we stayed in the queen sized room downstairs (I think Room 2). For the second half of our trip, we stayed in the room with one bunk bed (I think Room 1). Both rooms were great, and perfect for us. The photos I've provided are of some of the common areas. Everything was very clean - including the bathrooms. Trisha was an amazing hostess, and served us a delicious breakfast. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to town. Thanks for a great stay Roadhouse team!

5 stars for the staff. 1 star for the crazy owner! Took all the COVID money and closed laid off an entire staff. I speak the truth. Relies on the lodge for her staff. Doesn't pay and cheated staff out of tips.

We stopped here for cinnamon rolls back in July and were not disappointed. Absolutely incredible! The ginger molasses cookies were good too (and from my understanding you really can't go wrong with any of the baked goods) but the cinnamon rolls definitely won out in our opinion. Huge and reasonably priced, too.

I cannot say enough about what a good time we had at the Roadhouse. From the moment Trisha (the owner) picked us up at the train station we were like old friends. The little cabin in back was cozy, comfortable, and perfectly-supplied (home-made cookies). The main rooms Are filled with memorabilia and things to help you decompress - like big comfy couches, books, jigsaw puzzles, games, maps, antiques... even sewing. I spent a few hours playing the guitar (next to the piano) and when I broke a string, she had a friend in town bring over a completely new set of strings for me! Amazing! And then there's breakfast... The. Breakfast. If you are on a diet, just don't come here at all. This fat southern boy absolutely loved it. Trisha's pancakes are made with sourdough starter that has been kept going since 1902! There's enough thick sliced bacon and reindeer sausage to feed a platoon, plus eggs, t'maters, O.J., real he-man coffee and... and... ... and I'm getting tired of typing. This is already the longest Google review I've ever written. Ya'll just go there, OK? Trust me, it's great! P.S. We accidentally left some stuff behind in the room and Trisha shipped back to us free of charge. It was waiting for us when we got back to Texas. Thank you Trisha for a wonderful stay. We can't wait to come back!.

Amazing breakfast! Be sure to get the sourdough pancakes (the starter has been around a LONG time and is amazing) and reindeer sausage! We had lunch there too and the reindeer chili that had was delightful - just the right amount of spice!

Trisha is an excellent hostess. She overcommunicated so it was super easy to check in & know what was available. The upstairs suite has 3 individual bedrooms with a shared bathroom (which was small but for one night, more than adequate). Delicious cinnamon rolls in the morning downstairs for breakfast were available as well. Great location & a perfect stop on the way to Denali.

Great value for money, the best I had in my 7 weeks in Alaska. A lovely historic house. The room was so nice decorated, very comfortable and super clean. The in-house bakery is 1st class, don't miss it! Just the perfect place for breakfast or a snack in-between.

The Roadhouse was on our bucket list of places to stay and I have to say it’s been one of my favorite experiences. I’ve never stayed at a place that felt so comfortable and relaxing. The owner is incredibly nice and has covered every basis to make the stay as perfect as possible. Thanks to Trisha and staff for the memorable time here! Looking forward to our next stay.

Highly recommend. Clean. Quiet. Very strong WiFi. Enjoyed the common area with games + books. We did laundry. Fantastic location. French press for coffee in the morning (along with a wide variety of teas). And budget friendly.

This is one of my favorite places in the world. If you're looking for the most authentic Talkeetna Alaskan experience this is it! Love all the great memorabilia from Talkeetna's storied mountaineering history. Even though their breakfast menu is limited it's one of my favorite breakfasts in the entire world. If you care more about staying someplace fancy, this might not be for you. But if you want a real Alaskan experience it's this place. So charming and authentic!

I've been coming here for 22 years. Now the owners are absentee, the operations are turned over to two foreign young women who have too much to do. The friendliness is gone. I'll not be back.

Trisha was so nice. Due to covid our family of 4 had the whole upstairs(3 rooms and our own bathroom). She's very covid conscious and trying to keep everyone safe. Every group has their own bathroom. She had cookies waiting for us when we got there and they were delicious! The breakfast we had was amazing, eggs, orange juice, reindeer sausage, thick cut bacon, sourdough starter that was from 1902 that was used to make regular and blueberry pancakes. She is so kind, the other guests were so nice too. It's such a treat to stay there and be surrounded by so much character and history. We also were visited by the Mayor of Talkeetna, a cat named Denali. 😀 Stay here, you won't regret it.
