Salinas de Pedra de Lume

Mentioned on
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Salinas de Pedra de Lume is a unique and fascinating attraction located on an island. Visitors can swim in the waters of a low-elevation salt crater while learning about local history. The nature formation is amazing, as it features a salt lake in the crater of a volcano - something that can only be seen here in the world. While drinks and salt are available for purchase, there isn't much information provided about the history or salt-making process.
Don’t really need to write a review for this place as you’re probably booked to see this if you’re visiting Sal. It is a MUST see! My skin has never felt so good after floating on the salty water. I went to this on one of the TUI excursions but you can hire a car up there if you want. There is a changing facility and a restaurant although we didn’t stop at the restaurant. Try not to let the salty water into your eyes as it really stings.
Phoebe Wight — Google review
Great experience, best attraction on the island. Entry €5 and a 30sec shower for €1. The beach could be better, not enough benches and there’s many sharp stones. Sadly they don’t tell you anything about the history or the salt making process. Drinks and salt are available there to buy.
thekman — Google review
brilliant experience. the salt water is warm and doesn't feel gritty at all. Once you walk in you and lay on your back, you will float due to all the salt. such an amazing relaxing experience. Afterwards you can pay 1 euro for a shower in fresh water. they have changing rooms too. your skin will feel seriously soft after this experience.. but if you have any cuts you will definitely feel the pain but the salt lake will heal it too.
Kerri M — Google review
Amazing nature formation. Only here in the world you can see a salt lake in a crater of a volcano. Definitely recommend to see and take a bath in it. Inside both cold and hot water.
Lady Globetrotter — Google review
We were very lucky and had the whole place to ourselves for a bit. It's really a fascinating experience just floating around without any effort due to the salt in the water. I would definitely recommend going there if you are on the island. You don't need to spend hours on hours in the water since there are already kind of smoother skin after a short while. I would also recommend not taking a shower afterwards to let your skin soak in - it might be a little uncomfortable at first but I felt this was worth it.
chris noll — Google review
A very good place to visit. It is historic and was very relevant to the island's trade. You can float in its salt pools, feel the geothermal heat from the floor of the pool and enjoy the views. I read up on the place afterwards and wish I'd done so before. It would be complicated going there without a tour mainly because of the quality of roads and lack of public transport.
M C (The Old School Caretaker) — Google review
It was quite fun to swim in the salt lake and floats. It’s a special place as it’s the salt lake in the volcano crater but the entrance fee is quite high and then they charge one euro extra for a shower. So as it was a last stop of our tour and we had a big bottle of water with us, we didn’t have to take a shower there. 😉
Som Montree — Google review
Fantastic place, great floating in the salt lake. I've been in the dead sea and I think this is thicker (saltier) and better. There are changing rooms or get changed in and a shower, which they charge €1 for 30 seconds of water, my suggestion is to dry off naturally in the sun, it'll only take 2 minutes and will do your skin better, keeping the salt on longer. Your skin does feel very soft when you wash it off later. Be aware there is a bit of a walk from the car park which is up hill on the way back. A fascinating place as the old wooden frames for carrying the salt from the lakes to the road are still there.
Jan Rhodes — Google review
Its inside a Volcano, its €5 Each Euros to enter, yes you do float, and the view is bang on, well worth going.
Terry Bartlett — Google review
an incredibly great experience - barren landscape, salt all around and a salt lake! The entrance to the area through the cave had to raise expectations. Bring swimmers, because floating in the salt lake was almost as perfect as in the Dead Sea. Definitely recommend!!
Merja Peteri — Google review
Great attraction, well worth the visit. These are farmed, man made salt lakes. The island of Sal actually grew and developed from the salt mining that took place aka. its name literally meaning 'Salt'. You can enjoy a relaxing swim in the pools which are the second saltiest waters to the dead sea itself which means you literally effortlessly float when swimming. Apparently it's really good for your skin and very detoxifying. You can still evidently see the industrial past and there is no mistaking this site is man made. You do smell the sulphur fumes whilst swimming as this island is volcanic, which can be slightly unpleasant but the floor below your feet are kept nice and warm from this heating effect. There is a bar/restaurant on site. Toilet facilities and showers. The fresh water shower does cost €1 each.
Zack Highfield — Google review
Salinas is a salt mine where water is pumped into a volcano crater, evaporates and the salt is left behind. It looked like there were still operations in the mine as we passed 2 old, rusty and hydraulic fluid leaking machines on the way down to the mine. There is one lake at the bottom of the crater and it’s said that you will get 10 year’s younger if you take a bath. We did and the water smelled awful as pollution has been aggregated for years. I will not do this again. The good thing is that the infrastructure is in place with shower and toilets to get cleaned up.
Tor Kristian Gyland — Google review
A dead sea experience 5€ entrance fee. Fresh water shower available to wash the salt off 1€. Sit back and watch your feet rise to the surface. It was worth a visit if only for the experience and the lovely views.
Maria Green — Google review
The place itself is remarkable and the dead-sea experience as well, worth to visit but the place is dirty and smells bad. Tourists could definitely be using another area to swim. To take a shower after swimming would cost you one EUR.
JustBlesser — Google review
A Dead Sea type experience only this one has dessert valley views and the salt stamper comes out of the ground. There is a hike downwards to the salt flats and lakes but a car can get in if you need extra accessibility for your party. As of Oct 2023 the entrance is 5 euro to walk in, I am unaware for cars though. Swimming in the salt lake is interesting as you do float, no matter your position. Be sure to take a shower afterwards to get all those minerals out of you. All in all a recommended experience.
Nabil R — Google review
A good experience to swim in a very salty water. Don't let the water touch your eyes. It is really salty. Take some water with you to wash your face in case some salt runs into your eyes.
marco wageh — Google review
I enjoyed the experience. Take a few change Euros as you will need a shower afterwards and it's 1 Euros. Also useful to have your own aqua shoes.

Church of the Nazarene

Mentioned on
Church of the Nazarene
Sights & Landmarks
The Church Of The Nazarene, also known as chiesa santidade ao senhor, is a welcoming and friendly congregation that offers great singing and music during their services. While the church is small and seats are limited, visitors can expect to hear mass in Portuguese. It's worth getting there early to secure a spot, especially if you're interested in hearing them sing Happy Birthday for their parishioners.
Fantastic i met god again, it was 30 years ago. My teers Come, and I cant stop it. This churh was so A live, and god was were🙏
Bo Tibell — Google review
Wonderful and beautiful believing church with good youthful music. Projected words for the hymns and choruses did not have English translation screen and the sermon translation was difficult to hear whilst it was enthusiastic. It was not possible to provide any constructive feedback at the time.
Steve Warren — Google review
Nice congregation initially welcoming but no translation of sermon, only of prayer at start. Great singing and music. Come early since seats are limited. (According to map this church is called chiesa santidade ao senhor but it is the same church as church of the Nazarene, which is wrongly suggested to be located in the next block )

Pachamama Eco Park - Viveiro Botanical Garden

Mentioned on
Ecological park
Nature & Parks
Pachamama Eco Park - Viveiro Botanical Garden is an idyllic and serene destination that showcases a diverse array of local plants and trees. Visitors can also explore a captivating cactus garden and encounter various animals. However, some may question the suitability of housing certain creatures in the park, such as a lone monkey, red parrot, and unshorn lambs with matted wool.
Great place that cares for sick and injured birds and animals. Lots of variety including; yellow monkeys, tortoise, sheep, various parrots, goats, rabbits, peacocks, ducks, loads of birds etc. Etc. All surrounded by beautiful flowers, trees and cactus. Nice lawn with chairs to relax in with a small cafe for refreshments. Worth a visit for a couple of hours.
Jan Rhodes — Google review
This is such a beautiful tranquil place. I really enjoyed being here! It's like an oasis of calmness and peace. Lovely plants, some which are native to other regions of the world 🌎 There is also the 🌵 cactus garden, which leads onto some further interesting places. It's also nice to see some animals, however I did question if it was the best for some of them to be there such as the lone monkey, red parrot (pictured), and some lambs which had gone so long without shearing that their wool had actually turned into locs. Perhaps they would be better housed elsewhere.
Glenys Williams — Google review
Beautiful little botanic garden with many animals, mainly birds but also some turtles, bunnies, goats, donkeys... we went with our 3 year old daughter and she was enjoying it a lot. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Alena D — Google review
children) as we were staying at a hotel nearby. I had read the reviews and expected to be there for an hour or two. We all had such a wonderful time that we were there for much longer. The gardens are well kept and there is a large variety of plants. The children enjoyed the animals and the the parrot saying “hola”, the donkey foal and the peacock showing it’s feathers were a huge highlight. The gardens also has a cafe that serves small snacks and drinks at reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend a visit and we all agreed it was well worth the 5€ entry fee. Thank you for a lovely visit.
Louisa Chapman — Google review
Lovely gardens. Interesting birds. Cafe has drinks only-had a lovely fresh passionfruit juice. Can get an alluger for 50c from Santa Maria. Nice half a day outing
Lisa w — Google review
You definitely would not expect such a green place on Sal island. Entrance costs 5 euros and without a doubt, it's so worth it. We were here on a working day morning and i swear, we were the only ones here. You will see a lot of exotic flora and some animals, such as parrots, donkeys, turtle and many more! Don't miss out this place.
?t?p?n Ma?ka — Google review
Staff do their best . For me sadly animals and birds in poor condition. You not allowed to feed the animals. However i gave food to staff for the animals. The animals I feel are not neglected . Simply a but Grimm. No gardens to really see.
J C — Google review
This was the last stopping point on our Postcards of Sal tour and it was our favourite part of the tour. The gardens are small and the animals are limited but it was so lovely and peaceful. After a day of travelling on a minibus, it was a fantastic end to the day. We could have stayed longer but the tour was at an end. I particularly enjoyed the different species of plant and trees.
Wayne Hanns — Google review
Love it, spent 2hrs here and we had the best time. From the moment we entered the kind man on the front gate showed us where to purchase our ticket. It is €5pp. Lots of plants and flowers and many rescue animals. There's a swing and plenty of photo opportunities. We saw the donkey's being washed and fed. Everything was clean and all workers friendly. Only 10 minutes walk from the main hotels up the road.
Kimberley — Google review
The greenest place on Sal and the work Paula does is super impressive. Not only nursing all the plants and making them thrive but also the sanctuary she provides to all her animals. Well worth a visit!
Jonas Petersson — Google review
Went to the botanical gardens on one of the TUI excursions. Lots of rescued animals to see and there’s a cafe/bar to stop and have a drink which was a nice touch. It’s an oasis in the middle of a desert and hidden from the high winds on the island
Phoebe Wight — Google review
A serene, shaded escape from crowded hotels. This is a marvelous place that is just lovely. There is a cactus garden with some spectacular specimens as well as other beautiful areas. There are numerous aviaries and other animals. All in all, well worth a visit, please leave an extra donation as entry is only five euros.
Grant Lyon — Google review
Definitely a little oasis within the desert. There are a lot of places to sit and enjoy the environment. There are tons of palm trees and flowers as well as huge cacti garden. Some animals roam around free like peacocks, chickens and some goats, others are kept in cages like the moneys and different kinds of birds. One of the highlights was a baby donkey. In general the park is really nice and a good place to unwind. You should definitely spend some time here while on Sal.
Fabienne T — Google review
A lovely oasis from the dust and desert. Many plants and flowers, a cactus garden, many tropical birds, a few tortoises, peacocks/hens, monkeys, donkeys, goats and guinea pigs. Many places to sit and relax throughout the park. Was sad to see the tortoises wearing a hole round the edge of their pens trying to get out but that was little to do with their facilities which were full or care and love. €5 entry, paid at the lovely cafe with a ticket to allow you to exit.
Natalya Marquand — Google review
Had a lovely visit here and really enjoyed seeing all the animals and gardens. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the surroundings.
Paul Stokes — Google review
A must see whilst on Sal and definitely support this worthy cause. Whilst yes, animals are alone and in cages BUT they are well cared for.and a far cry from their existence before life at Pachamama. Truly is an oasis for these animals and the amazing botanical work gone into this project. Great work and thank you.
Allie Pennington — Google review
Nice botanic garden with a lot of beautiful plants and flowers and home animals (donkeys didn´t look in well condition, but I guess they were old). But I´m not fan of keeping wild animals in cages so to see stressed little monkey strongly holding its toy and bored parrot ara in quite small cage with no possibility to fly, was quite sad for me. But I recommend to visit it - nice place to relax.
Krista Vavrusova — Google review
I was so sad after we was there, thinking of the poor animals. I will never forget the poor donkey whith his legs full of bloody wounds, surrounded by a million flies eating on it!!! You could see he was desperate, running and shaking inside the small enclosure. He did'nt even had water there😢💔 I neither will ever forget the poor, lonely monkey sitting there in a small cage, with a little doll in his hand as his only asset. No place to climb, no place to run, no place to sleep. Even nothing to drink or eat😢💔 The skinny horses in the end of the park was lined up in the heat, with theire heads locked up in a very short chain, unable to move! I have never seen anything like this and I hope I never will again. However, the cactuses and plantes seemed to be well taken care of... I don't recommand anybody to go there to support this horrible place!!!

Buracona - Blue Eye Cave

Mentioned on
Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Buracona - Blue Eye Cave is a popular natural tourist attraction surrounded by rocky walls that forms a lagoon. Visitors can swim in the top pool of the cave, but it's best to check the flag system before booking on the day. Access to Buracona could be done by hiring a car and downloading an area map beforehand as it's located in a desert area with a rough path for about 5km.
A nice place to visit as a part of a trip. You can come here and swim in the top pool however that’s only when the flag system allows so maybe best to book on the day. Access could be done by hiring a car but if you don’t have mobile download a google map area first as it’s a lot of dessert the last 5km. The view of the eye is very cool to see however I would recommend you do this as a part of a day trip and get more out of your exploration.
Tim Lowe — Google review
Brilliant place to visit. Doesn't take long, but you can take as long as you like. You do need to be there at the right time of day to see the blue eye, but it's worth taking a look. I believe there is a museum there, but we didn't have time to look at it. If you like rocks, it's definitely a place to see.
Ditzy Blitz — Google review
Nice little spot with a natural swimming pool where you can swim. I just felt that it was a bit crowded for not too much to see at the end of the day. But the location and the road to go there is nice, after that I’d recommend to go to Boa Terra as the ride is quite scenic
Salem Alsamour — Google review
It's important to arrive at the right time (12.30 pm approx) to see the eye, which you can do by leaning over a precarious rock edge. It is a beautiful vibrant blue colour within the eye. The entrance fee is EUR 3 and there is a bar and restaurant on-site.
Natalie Underwood — Google review
The Island of Sal is blessed with a couple of things, both sunshine and nice beaches. Sadly, not much else, if your idea of great is hanging over a cliff.edge whilst a local grips your waist then this is definitely for you.
paul Storey — Google review
In summer, apparently this is quite a spectacle, with a perfect blue 'eye' to observe as the sun lights up the water in a cavern close to the sea. There is also a brilliant natural pool in which to swim when the tide is right. We went in January, but it was still worth it.
David Shepherd — Google review
Nice place, but make sure you visit on a sunny day to see the blue cave as I should be, i was there a cloudy day so the colours of the water isnt what 7t could be. Bring swim gear so you can jump in the water, there is a shower on top of the hill.
Dennis Graversen — Google review
A well designed and interesting visiting place based on natural site located north of Palmeira. The entrance ticket 3EUR worth it's price includes the Blue Eye view, the lagoon (with a guarded swimming area), the museum of a local nature (stones and species) plus a garden of Cabo Verde islands made of sand and broken shells. A pleasant cafeteria and a restaurant with the magnificent view. Many people visiting but not overcrowded (eo January). Truly recommend...
Wojciech Witkowski — Google review
Excellent place to visit has onside bar and food available, a gift shop on site ,stunning views of the ocean. Seeing the blue eye is weather dependent, on our trip it was overcast but when the sun came out it was stunning
Paul Carney — Google review
One of the few touristic spots on the island. There is an entry fee to pay, and quite a lot of visitors. It is a nice natural place, but it needs some love- fences need a new paint, some trash lying around, some improvised tent looking like from a slum is next to the blue eye..
Nensi Frank — Google review
Certainly a miracle and wonder of nature. At the right angle and time, as your peer into the cave, the stars seem to have nestled in the water 💧 and throw back a dance dazzle. Then you see an eye shaped blue formation! The Blue 👁 Eye. And if you are still lucky, a turtle swims around enjoying the clear waters of the cave.
Clement Katulushi — Google review
Fantastic attraction. Naturally formed volcanic water pools. This attraction tells you a little about the islands, their location and other interesting local facts. It also has an exhibit on the geology of the island. It is fully accessible and there are clear defined paths around the area. When the conditions are right you can jump and swim in the pools, this isn't all that often though.
Zack Highfield — Google review
Amazing place, the day was so windy but I think that is nether to see the incredible power of the see.. the bar in the place as all sites like that is for tourists, then so expensive
Marcos HIDO — Google review
This is thoroughly unique. The blue eye is a feature you can't find anywhere else. I suggest you see it as a stop on one of the many tours. It is probably more expensive to get there privately
M C (The Old School Caretaker) — Google review
Great attractions. We made in time to see 11:50 to see blue Eye. A little bit cue but it goes fast. And must have jump and swim in natural pool. I would say must visit if in Sal.
Martins Freidenfelds — Google review
Very pretty place, gift shop I found quite reasonably priced as well. Great views well worth a trip if you're on Sal
Craig Stuart — Google review
It is not the eye that makes five stars but the whole experience this amazing place provides. On a windy day a huge amount of water meets cliffs and there are no photographs capable of conveying this power.

Place is a total scam! When playing roulette we found out the amount of money on our account wasn’t what it should be. One of the managers came, looked in the betting history and said we placed bets on things we absolutely didn’t bet on. The manager offered to watch on the cameras / CCTV to see what happened, and as we said: it showed we didn’t do anything. Instead of apologizing he said this might be due to the use of a mobile phone which he saw on the camera. Yeah right… a phone that places a bet… We immediately cashed out and left. Both winning and losing are part of the game, but it’s not fun when they make you loose behind your back. Never again!!
Frik Reek — Google review
Friendly service. Quite expensive drinks. Only few days of poker.

Staff is ok. A bit boring atmosphere. For me the biggest disappointment is that they say on their page that they have poker. They only have slots, roulette and blackjack. Not for me.

If you are on the island and fancy a flutter then you wont be disapointed, all the slot machines you like are there together with all the usual table games, the bar serves booze at fair prices, there is no entrance fee and as a new member we get a voucher for your 1st 10 Euro if you play 10 Euros bargain... wife had mine ... however the place has more staff than guests I must have counted 18 staff in one large gaming room and less than 10 clients.... we had a good time and if we return to the island would return to the Casino...

We had an amazing time at Ocean Suites and can only say good things. The only thing you need to be aware is the music from the bar at goes untill 00h. As long as you are aware of this before you book, You're gonna have a great time. We stayed 4 nights, some we went to bed while the bar is still full and we still manage to rest. The rooms are next level. Probably the most comfortable bed we've been, the shower has a lot of pressure (which we were aware could be a problem in Santa Maria), 30s from the beach and close to all main spots in Santa Maria center. But with all of this being said, the best part of all was really the staff. Before arriving we were in contact with Dory who answered all our questions in record time, and once we were there everyone in the cafe is so welcoming, from bar, cleaning and kitchen staff that you feel like you're at home. Shoutout to Felino and Adilson from the morning shift who gave us a lot of information, took care of any questions/requests we needed and always with a smile. Number one choice in Sal from now on. Thank you very much Ocean family

Don't worry about the noise in your room, because even the bar having dance floor and music the rooms are very quiet. I really enjoyed this place!

Barracuda is a popular seafood restaurant located on the stunning Santa Maria Beach, offering a picturesque view of the sea. The restaurant prides itself on serving the freshest seafood caught by local fishermen who dock their boats right in front of the establishment. With its distinctive style and friendly atmosphere, Barracuda provides a classic Cape Verdean dining experience. While primarily known for its delicious seafood and pork dishes, it also offers an ideal setting for enjoying evening drinks.
Food was amazing. This was a recommendation and was excellent. The barnacles for starter were really interesting and flavoursome (a bit like muscles) and the waitress kindly showed me how to use the "equipment". The lobster risotto was fantastic and very nice house white wine as well, 0.5L went very smoothly between 2 of us!

A good selection of sea food and rice dishes (paella, jambalaya etc) to share for 2 persons. Fish of the day and fish&shrimp skewer was tasty as well. Nice environment by the beach, part of the tables are on the beach but if you want to sit outside then booking a table is recommended.
Mira — Google review
It's a very nice place, but the food was a bit bland. Yet we came back for the food. Add a bit of salt and it's just right ;)
jkj kjk — Google review
It was nice to eat outside, food on the sand, directly in front of the beach. The service is careful and kind. The food was of good quality too and reasonably priced for being fresh fish. The local shellfish was juicy and tasting of sea. Need to note that they only accept cash, which might be unexpexted for a restaurant of this level, but this is well advertised, so you can know in advance that you must have enough cash with you.

Awesome place! Great food, with the feet in the sand enjoying the sound of the ocean 🙏❤️

I love this little brunch spot. It's right on the beach and the food is so good. It's also great if you just want to jump in and grab a drink and an appetizer.

A really nice restaurant right on the beach. If you sit outside, you have your feet in the sand. The fish is very well grilled, great ambience.

Quite honestly the nicest, freshest seafood on Sal. Local Lobster caught fresh, along with prawns make for an amazing dinner. Service was fantastic and attentive. Be aware, they only seem to take cash so ensure you bring enough.
Alex King — Google review
Great place for a drink and some snacks. For full meal is not the right place. The food is not so great. The only positive point is the locations, eating with the feets in the sand
Jorge Ferreira — Google review
Really great people and the food is very fresh and lots of good authentic dishes unlike many of the local restaurants. Good vibe between formal and informal. Go for fish it's so cheap compared to European prices and very fresh! Percebes or goose barnacles are only 16 euro! Perfect location on the beach.

We discovered Barracuda on the sand in Santa Maria. It was a paradise escape from the big hotel. We ate there 3 lunchtimes and 2 evenings as it was so delicious, thoughtful and peaceful. The fresh fish is different each day and every time it’s been exquisite. The staff are fantastic.
Hannah Jackson — Google review
Very nice location at the beach, has a good atmosphere inside the restaurant with friendly staff. The cracas starter was quite an experience and the tuna tartar tasted delicious. The warm dishes tasted amazing, and you can choose between rice, salad or chips as a side dish. We had a three course meal with 2 drinks (cocktail and 0,5l beer) for 35 euros per person. Can pay with euros, escudos or credit card. 1 euro equals 110 escudos.

The food is pretty good. We had the mixed seafood plate which was excellent. Staff is very poor and arrogant! They treat us as they were feared where are not able to pay the bill. Wouldn't go there a second time.

We had a great experience at Cape Fruit. The people are very nice, and friendly. The food was good. The vibe here is amazing, very, surf beach town feeling, with fresh fruits and smoothies as well as breakfast and brunch options. Definitely recommend.

Brilliant tiny cafe with great selection of juices, shakes and fresh fruit. The kids loved the pancakes. I had the breakfast which was awesome and set me up for the day. Nice ambience, great staff, good selection of food.

Best breakfast (and lunch) place of Sal. I come here every day while I'm here. The place is run by woman only, which I like. Pancakes are my favorite. The smoothies and milkshakes are great as well!

Very nice place to eat healthy food. Salads were very tasty (we took the one with octopus and one with shrimps). Smoothies and homemade juices are also a must. Highly recommended!

Cash only restaurant Lots of flies on site as its a little more rural. I had the avocado toast and salmon sandwich. The avocado toast came with yoghurt topped with fresh fruit and juice. Juice and yoghurts were very good. Toast was very gentrificated and a smaller portion. I didn't eat the tomato as I try to avoid fruits that require washing in counties were the water isn't recommend. Salmon sandwich was good. Overall 3/5 as the food was average

Discover a cozy gem in Santa Maria, Cape Verde, offering a luxurious atmosphere and attentive service. The restaurant delights with healthy, comforting food and a friendly staff, perfect for relaxing after activities like surfing or kiting. It's especially accommodating for vegetarians and those with dietary restrictions. Highly recommended for its Cuban vibe and great options for breakfast and lunch. A must-visit favorite!

Cape Fruit is by far one of the best restaurants on the island ❤️ They serve delightful breakfasts, brunches and lunches, all freshly prepared. Many options are vegan-friendly, or can be made vegan-friendly. I really can’t get enough of the salmon wrap and the blondy pancakes 🤤 I’ll definitely be back, and you absolutely can’t skip this place if you’re around Santa Maria - it’s a must!

Great little spot near the end of town that emphasizes freshly made dishes fro breakfast and lunch. The breakfast special is fantastic: eggs or omelette, fresh fruit bowl/ yogurt, coffee and fresh squeezed juice. Mostly vegetarian which is nice on an island in the middle of nowhere!

Amazing selection of fresh juices and delicious salads set in a delightfully colourful and cosy setting. The only minus for me would be opening times as they close early. Highly recommended!

Super nice restaurant with a good atmosphere. It’s very small and cosy, you might need to book your table at some point. It’s a bit more expensive than the other places but it’s worth it, the food is quite good compared to other restaurants. We ordered pasta and it was super tasty. The service is very good and the motto here is to go and talk with the tables next to you:)
Salem Alsamour — Google review
For our last night in Santa Maria, after having tried all the mid range places that we’ve loved for the amazing fresh food and modest prices, we’ve decided to step “up” and go to one of the supposedly finer restaurant. First thing that made me laugh was the writing on the menu, which described the place as friendly and easy going, with the very weird formal table cloth mixed with 90s spanish music hits, and a random flashing of the lights here and there. The bread was fresh at the top of the basket and stale at the bottom. Really, really stale. And the dressing was pretty much just chopped garlic, which doesn’t strike me as fine cuisine. We ordered the pasta (it was cheapest and the other reviews mentioning tiny portions scared me I wouldn’t end up full otherwise) and each plate cost twice what we’ve been used to paying in “lower range” restaurants (but then again, this place confusedly describes itself as easy going - them and their lobster menu). Both pastas were okay at most, mainly garlicky, my prawns linguine featured very hard overcooked prawns a sauce that was remarkably similar to Tesco’s tomato and mascarpone pasta sauce (£1.60). I left my prawns because they were hard, I ate my pasta because I was hungry, I am happy that we went to mainly midrange places because as a European gal I much prefer a humble fish with a slap of rice on the side than pretentious garlicky pasta with overinflated prices. To summarise, this place is okay, but you can find amazing in Santa Maria.
Cristiana Candido — Google review
A little bit overpriced if you compare to the other restaurants that make homemade pasta. The food was okay, but small portions. The owner was a bit pushy and smelled like he had blue cheese in his pockets all day. Not nice if you’re hungry.

Recently ate here and mainly because the reviews were good. The restaurant is small, cozy with a nice decoration. We found the food here to be of slightly lower quality, but this may be because we expected too much. Still nice to eat here sometime.

This is our best experience so far on this island. Pastis was recommended by our local guides and we booked a table for two. We decided to go for fish and had fish tartare for starter and lobster for the main course. The flavors and the tastes were amazing and not to forget the cosy place with only a handful of tables and superb service. We will be back to try more from the menu. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
Tor Kristian Gyland — Google review
Tropical shrimp salads as starter was amazing. It started off very well that's why it's a bit disappointing that the lobster were a bit over cooked. The sauces were good. Cheesy steak was also fine. But we waited so long to get the mains. Nice interior but too small for the amount of guests they received this night we visited.

This restaurant is very small, only a handful tables. It is hosted very warm and with a lot of love from the crew. The food was amazing and the quality especially of the meat was very good. We had a great night there and it is not 0-8-15 as the other tourist places at the main street.

As a digital nomad, I've had the pleasure of dining in many places, but Chez Pastis truly stands out. This little gem in Santa Maria offers a surprisingly posh dining experience, with a menu that boasts quality over quantity. The flavors are exquisite, and the ambiance is a delightful blend of sophistication and local charm. A bit pricier than its counterparts, but every bite justifies the cost. Highly recommended for those seeking a culinary adventure!

Compact and entertaining. A very small restaurant with 20 covers - and you almost sit on the laps of your fellow diners - but that adds to the experience! Steaks are amazing - but you will have to book - there are only two sittings at 6.30pm and 8.30pm. Don't miss this hidden gem

From the first minute of entering Pastis we where welcome with happy people and a great atmosphere. Loving the eighties music playing by the owner of the restaurant. The chef and bar staff where polite and of course the food was 10/10 I will say when on a small island and fish is the main thing I would stick too it and go for what the locals eat. Cause it will blow your mind and everything is packed with seasoning and flavours.

Great little place for a surprisingly posh meal. Great flavour. Little bit more £££ than others but food is quality. Was going to say the service was a bit slow but then I remembered that we are in Cape Verde and things are a bit different here. Well done all, enjoyed our evening.

While on holiday we had a look in absolutely fantastic you have to book though, they do 2 sittings afternoon and evening. I had the Lobster for the first time absolutely gorgeous staff really lovely. Shame it's not local to me in Manchester (uk) 😩 I will just have to travel back to see them thanks to a lovely team. Oh yes it's a French name but the food is a mixture mostly Italian

Restaurante Farolim is a charming seaside restaurant located on a pier, offering stunning views of the ocean and an ideal spot for watching the sunset. The restaurant is known for its high-end atmosphere and fresh, delicious food, particularly the Tuna Tartar which receives rave reviews. While some find the prices to be on the higher side, many agree that it's worth it for the quality and ambiance.
Great little spot, amazing location, virtually in the sea. High-end restaurant for the area, reflected in the prices. Lovely fresh food cooked to order, lots of fresh fish as you would expect. Friendly attentive service. But it's all about the view here! Connected to the hotel, but open to non residents as well.
Stuart Atchison — Google review
I had a very disappointing experience recently. The views and location are amazing, but the service and food quality were poor. We ordered raw tuna, shrimp cocktail, fries, rice, and soup. We had to send the food back twice because the orders were incorrect. We finally received the raw tuna dish correctly, but we didn't eat it because the taste was strange. We ended up eating basic fries and two servings of rice with mayonnaise. The shrimp cocktail was tasteless shrimps soaked in mayonnaise, like fast food. The soup was like any fast food soup in taste. The service was classless and we had to ask for utensils several times and finally get them ourselves. At the end, when the bill was not included, I went to the counter to pay. Because I understand the local language, I heard the waiters saying that "they really messed up their night, we brought the wrong food and they ended up eating rice with mayonnaise for dinner in practice." I told them that I understand what they are saying, to which they replied "we understand that it was a failed experience." Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. The views and location are great, but the service and food quality are not worth the price.

Lovely place directly by the sea and tasty food. A bit pricier than other places on the island but still worth it. Beautiful live music on most nights.

Best restaurant in Santa Maria! Great service and a real nice ambiance with live music. And all that with a stunning view over Santa Maria bay.

An amazing seaside location to this restaurant! They had a lot of guests, so I guess it was a busy night! Our food tasted very good, but the side-dishes like rice and potatoes came too late, so the meat got cold before we could eat it together with the rice. And also the coffee for the dessert came after we had already eaten the dessert. Anyways, it’s one of the nicer restaurants in the area, so it’s worth a try!
Fredrik Fossland — Google review
Actually, everything is well done in this restaurant. People, food and wines, view on beach and ocean, music, combination with hotel and terrace. We love it and will be back asap.
Alfred Hoogland — Google review
Cracking little seaside restaurant, unfortunately the upper deck was closed due to off season renovations. This restaurant is one of the best on the island and although a fair few reviews note the prices as high and the service as low , our party found it good to great across our table of eight. Oh and something I must mention is the Tuna Tartar. WOW!!!!!! JUST AMAZING . Its defo a place where you get what you pay for....so bear that in mind if you hit the wine list and understand that almost everything has to be flown or ferried to the island the costs need to be past on . Oh nearly forgot the live band...... I'm not a fan of jazz or creole, maybe it's the Company! The location! The wine! The food! But towards the end of the night I was finger tapping the table like I was playing that keyboard and bobbing my head like Nat King Cole. All in all it was a great experience, just give the rest rooms a swerve ......or at least use them before you eat, because they are shocking.

Great location on pier. Ideal sunset location. Prices a little high for the quality of the food and service. You're paying for the location, if you're not too picky. Tuna steaks were highlight.

A nice place for a drink or a bite, toes in the sand. Prices are somewhat higher than average but nothing can beat that location.
Roderik De Zwart — Google review
Food from the grill was nice. Location is great. The waiter could have been kinder. We sat at non reserved table with the view in empty restaurant yet were reseated at the back of the kitchen who knows why. Attitude from the service could be better cause that impacts your impression about the place which is the reason we're not going back.
