Haiti

Haiti is a Caribbean country that shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic to its east. Though it’s still recovering from a 2010 earthquake, many of Haiti's landmarks dating to the early 19th century remain intact. These include Citadelle la Ferrière, a mountaintop fortress, and the nearby ruins of Sans-Souci Palace, the baroque former royal home of King Henry I.

The Citadelle Laferrière is a grand fortress built in the 19th century atop Pic Laferriere, offering breathtaking views. It is known as the eighth wonder of the world by Haitians and designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
After that visit every part of my body hurts for 4 days but I can't wait to do it again. This should be in everyone's bucket list especially if you are black and/or Caribbean born.
Joel Charles — Google review
It was an amazing experience! Since my childhood, I have seen several educational and other institutions organize tourist outings to the Citadelle Lafferiere. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to participate. People come from all over the world to visit this marvelous site dubbed the 8th wonder of the world. Becoming older, I made the decision to go there at the next opportunity that I find. And I did! It's incredible when you imagine how this fort was built in the middle of the 19th century on top of a mountain! Amazing. I hope to go back again to continue admiring this incredible construction. You who have not yet gone, only your eyes will be able to make you understand what I am talking about.
Stanley Despeignes — Google review
The Citadelle Laferrière is one of the most remarkable fortress in the Americas and was built over 200 years ago in fear of a second French invasion. You can scale it on foot for free from the small village of Milot which takes between 1-2 hours depending on your level of fitness. Alternatively you can charter a mule or whizz up and down with a moped rider for the most part of it for $10 US (including reasonable waiting time). If you arrive on Tuesday you can experience a number of unforgettable voodoo ceremonies en route.

The walk is a bit long so I road a horse up the hill. The experience was unreal. How in the world was this world wonder built?

The Citadelle Laferrière is a very fantastic historical monument in Haiti, it is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Haiti. Every year, thousands of people came from many different countries to visit it. I was very excited the first time I visited.

As a Haitian born in the US, this was the first time I came to Cap-Haiti. This was the best experience I've ever had. I learned so much! Can't wait to go again.

I went to Citadel twice. Great for everyone, especially if you're Haitian decent. You will learn a lot. I do suggest walking all the way up. Take the motorcycle or truck halfway. Then the horseback. TRUST ME!!! You can thank me later.
Ray Bannister — Google review
Wonderful place. Beautiful landscape. You can walk, it's a good hike. If you want to take a horse it's 2000 gourdes almost 15$ US (round trip). Then you have to pay 10$ US to visit inside the Citadelle. And we had a tourist guide it was 20$ US/ pers (that includes the tour of the Palais sans souci ). People from the village keep soliciting to sell souvenirs etc...so be prepared...
Raphy Wallace — Google review
It's mind blowing how Roi Henry Christophe and co. pulled that off. The architecture is out of this world. Every single spot is a piece of art, it's like walking through a Van Gogh gallery. I'd suggest to the trip all the way up there by walk at least once, it hits different.
Chrismy Augustin — Google review
The 4 mile hike up is definitely worth it to learn about this historic fortress the Haitians built by hand to guard their land!! The scenes are beautiful from 3000 ft above sea level!! The hike isn't easy but I promise it's worth every drop of sweat!!
Patricia François-Wolfe — Google review
The Citadelle always bring tears to my eyes. Reminds me with the right leader we can accomplish so much. But it also shows our lack of training for leadership and dedication to making Haiti our priority. This is my 5th visit and I can probably visit another 5 more times. BTW, don't walk up or down, just pay the $10.00 for the donkey! Enjoy the Citadelle Laferriere...

Bassin Bleu

Bassin Bleu is a popular tourist spot nestled in the mountains and jungles, located 12km northwest of Jacmel in Haiti. It features three stunning cobalt-blue pools connected by waterfalls, making it one of the most picturesque swimming areas in the region. Visitors can reach the pools with Experience Jacmel via moto-taxi and a guided trek down an uneven path that includes rappelling down a rock face. The area is famous for high rocks that kids often jump from.
I visited June 25, 2019 We met with our tour guide Jimmy at Bassin Bleu and from there we had about a 15 minute hike to the bassin. You see little basins along the way until you get to the main attraction. It was so beautiful we did not want to leave.

Paradise on earth, the first pool, where the waterfall is, is 75ft deep.
ALEX ISIDORE — Google review
Deep blue pools of beauty and bliss. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful navigating the trail. They helped take our phones/cameras across the water too! We jumped off a waterfall, swam in three different pools of water and had a blast. No need to spend hours and hours here. You may need a guide to get you to the village first. Totally worth it!
Eric Padron — Google review
Such an amazing place!! The views on the drive up are incredible, the hike is beautiful, and the water is so gorgeous and refreshing. Our guides Mackenzie & Luckson were the best! They picked fruit for us to try while we were hiking and they helped us across the slippery spots. We purchased fresh coconut once we got to the last waterfall and it was delicious! Make sure you ask about the mermaids that live in the waterfall. There is a store at the beginning of the hike that sells beautiful art. This place is a must see if you are in the area!
Grace Gigstad — Google review
Very beautiful place, would recommend it to anyone local or foreign. The water is so blue, really deserve its name “Bassin Bleu”. On top of it, it’s affordable. We get a guide to take us there, they got safety vest for those that are not good swimmers. We enjoyed the walking and hiking part to get to the main waterfall. Come experience it for yourself
Jusny Mackenson Louis-Jean — Google review
It's a long drive to get there and the road is rough. When we got there the nice guide told us it would be a 10 mn walk to the falls. It wasn't... It's quite a walk and it's very slippery so you need to bring the appropriate footwear and your sense of adventure. Once we got there we found out that the drive and the trek were worth it. IT. IS. BEAUTIFUL. the only downside was that it rained the night before so the water wasn't blue. But we had a great time!!
Marc-Edwin Casseus — Google review
This is a fun trip is you are ever in Southeast Haiti. It is about an hour drive outside of Jacmel through the hills and along some mountains. You will definitely get hit up by the guides for some extra money despite paying ahead of time. There is opportunity to jump off a waterfall if you should so choose. No food or drinks along the way, but there are drinks at the top and entrance to the attraction. Be prepared to walk on very uneven terrain, rock climb down without harnesses, and cross creeks and rivers that can be flowing fast. It is not recommended for less able bodied individuals. This is not ADA accessible.
steve wentz — Google review
Be careful in this place , especially for the guide , if you see anyone's helping you , ask him what does he want ? If not they will ask for money even that they didn't announce themselves as guides , they'll probably read what already marked to you on the rocks , it's more like a reading lesson be careful

Sans Souci Palace

Castles
Sans-Soucis Palace is a historic landmark in Cap-Haitien, Haiti. It was built in 1813 as a royal residence for Henri I, the King of Haiti at that time. The palace is now mostly ruins but its stone remains give visitors an idea of its grandeur in its heyday. In addition to the palace itself, tourists can explore nearby attractions such as a rum distillery and downtown Cap-Haitien.
We can see that King Christophe had a taste for luxury to have built a palace of this kind with large courtyards. I wish I could see a picture right after it was built, unfortunately camera technology wasn't that advanced. What caught my attention the most was a bust I saw on one of the courtyards. According to an ancient, she represents the goddess of comedy.

This is a legendary monument at Milot, on the road toward the Citadelle Laferrière. The ruins are very gigantic, titanic and.. ouh. When you see that, you'll see how big we human think if men with archaic tools can do that in 19th century. So now, we should be conscious that we must almost limitless, we can break the boundaries in our mind. Unfortunately, earthquakes have gone with some part, even though, legend never dies, This Palace is still memorable and incredible.
Robenson Jean — Google review
Sans Souci Palace is an awe-inspiring historical landmark in Northern Haiti that has mesmerized tourists and locals alike for decades. The palace was once the royal residence of King Henri Christophe, an ambitious and visionary leader who oversaw the creation of a new kingdom in Haiti during the early 19th century. The architecture of the palace is a mix of European and Afro-Caribbean styles, featuring ornate columns, arches, and decorative carvings. The palace is surrounded by beautiful gardens and overlooks the nearby town of Milot. Visitors to Sans Soucis Palace can explore the ruins of the palace and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The palace is a remarkable example of 18th-century architecture and engineering and has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. Visitors can explore the palace's ruins, including its grand halls, intricate mosaics, and beautifully landscaped gardens. In addition to the palace, the nearby Laferrière Citadel is another popular tourist attraction in the area, adding to the region's historical and cultural significance. Visitors cannot help but be impressed by the sheer size and grandeur of Sans Souci Palace. The palace's intricate details and the vision of its founder, King Henri Christophe, leave visitors in awe. However, the site's current state of disrepair and the lack of adequate maintenance have led to concerns about its preservation. The Haitian government, along with UNESCO, has taken steps to ensure that Sans Souci Palace is adequately preserved, restored, and maintained for future generations. Sans Soucis Palace is a fascinating historical site that offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Haiti. Its architecture and location make it a must-visit for anyone interested in history or architecture.

Magdoos is a Lebanese-specific eatery in Petionville since 2005. It possesses both a connected and laid-back atmosphere, having nothing left to prove. Their menu offers lambs, falafels, hummus, and ghannouj baba (eggplant puree). Additionally, they serve hot dishes like grilled churrasco, peppered beef filet, and fish leaped to pants. Every dish is flavorful and generously portioned.
The food was so delicious!!! We had fattoush, tabouleh, kibbeh, baba ganouesh, hummus, frozen mojito, and a lychee martini. Yum!!!

Not my 1st time and neither my last at Magdoos. The place is in a nice spot in PetionVille and has a wonderful decor. They have a bar and a restaurant w both indoor and outdoor seating. The food is good and they serve good amounts of pita bread and hummus and also a small snack. The food tastes good, but i think the owners could expand the menu to add a wider range of dishes. There is wifi available and is a good place to work while enjoying good food. I had their Moscow Mule which was very tasty! Prices in USD and on average 15usd for a main course. Cocktails around 7-8usd. They also serve wine.

Undoubtedly, Papaye is renowned for its exceptional Creole cuisine, making it a must-visit dining destination. Its talented chef, Mrs. Sorry Faubert Adrien, showcases her skill and innovative flair in preparing delectable dishes that reflect the rich culinary traditions of the nation. The restaurant's tasteful yet simple decor creates an inviting ambiance, with a prominent use of chestnut accents symbolizing the abundance found on each plate.
The food is amazing and has been for more then 10 Years. We are talking international standard that one could compare with any restaurant around the world. The kitchen is small so expect a delay if the restaurant is packed. Check your bill like you would normally would. Sometimes the waiters accidentally put items on the wrong table or bill

Boukanye is an incredibly welcoming eatery with a fantastic ambiance. However, at times, the volume of their music can be a little excessive. Nonetheless, their cocktails are unparalleled, particularly the Mojito and Pina Colada. The cuisine offered is outstanding, although there is room for improvement in terms of customer service. Despite this drawback, I am eager to visit Boukanye again when I am in Au Cap as I hope that their customer service will have noticeably improved by then.

Well place was nice and great location. However service was terrible. After ordering food it took 1 hour before serving it to us, come to find out they give us the wrong order. While the server take another 45 minute before bringing the correct food it's was around 11pm and we get there by 9pm. We order 3 different meal didn't get the side rice and when I ask the server she have the nerve to tell me there was no rice. While I pay for the whole meal she waited after we order to let us know that. I ask to speak to a manager and the manager was to bussy to assist us by sending another server saying " I'm bussy I'm preparing for a birthday party " like we not paying for the service and it was around 11pm seriously that was he excuse. Very upset leaving the building I ask another server(Guerline)for her manager name she stated she doesn't know he's name. And I was like how you dont know your manager name if you working here. My advice to you if you going for the bar go for it but if you hungry do not even bother order your meal there. Just get ready to get your food after 24 hour. And my server was too bussy flirting with other guy, all over him while she working so not professional. That why she mess up our food in the first place.

My whole family comes here several times per month. Sometimes several times per week! Lol. They are open early for awesome breakfasts, and they have a great blend of both local cuisine and food that is loved around the world too. I have loved everything I’ve tried here - and I don’t say that about the other major restaurants in our area. My parents love having meetings here with clients during the daytime, as there are many different sections to the restaurant’s layout. It’s easy to have a private meeting or even a large party/group gathering. My mom and dad come here often for the evening concerts and music too. They say the bar is fabulous. This place has a cool Instagram account that shows photos of many of their drinks and food. This is my restaurant of choice any day of the week.

Nice location with a breezy terrace with a view of the ocean. Went for a late lunch and the place was nearly empty. They have hardly any vegetarian options. Service was extremely slow - I ordered pizza and tropical juice: the former took over 30 min, while the drink didn't arrive until I was half way through my food. The pizza was edible but mediocre. It arrived without utensils and I had to repeatedly ask for fork and knife.

THIS IS THE WORST PLACE EVER! AVOID AT ALL COST! Unprofessional, rude and incompetent! Please be aware that your food will take over 2 hour wait time to arrive. Although there seemed to be multiple wait staff walking around, it took half an hour just to place an order. The staff was not attentive at all. They would make eye contact and walk right past you. Food was subpar at best. How does someone mess up chicken wings? Very bland not even SALT was added and way too crispy. If you are just in the area for drinks and music maybe this would be a recommendation for you but for anything else, absolutely NOT! You will be sitting for quite a while… Please be advised that if you are paying with an any card, their machine does not work! My party and I asked if they accepted card payment and they initially said yes but their system was down. I wanted to love this place because it was recommended by many (locals and tourists) but I had such an awful experience that I cannot let this go unnoticed. If I could give a 0 star review, I would. Please do not come here. There are plenty of other establishments prepared to welcome you with good food and service.

We ate upstairs because the weather was nice. But there were so many flies outside. When the food was on our table, we had to swat them away. We ate fritay, chicken soup, black rice, wings and plantain fries. Everything was delicious. The only issue besides the flies was there were fried pork on our fritay plate tho we mentioned that we don't eat that prior. The waiter was nice though and apologetic. The bathroom needs some maintenance. Floor was dirty and one bathroom didn't have hand soap and paper towel.
