Nestled within a national park, The Hermitage Hotel offers simple yet comfortable accommodations with two restaurants and a cozy lounge. Guests can enhance their stay by joining a stargazing tour that begins with an orientation in the planetarium before heading to a stargazing facility away from artificial lights. The hotel's iconic dining options include the Alpine Restaurant, which serves sumptuous buffets against the backdrop of Aoraki/Mount Cook.
We stayed one night on March 11, 2023. The Hermitage exceeded our expectations in many ways. If you are after a magical place to stay, this should not let you down. 10/10 While we were in a line waiting to be checked in, an Indian lady staff chatted with us for around 5-10 minutes just to keep us accompanied, what a welcoming gesture and heart warming thing to have after we had our exhausting hike through the valley track. Our room was just a standard king, which is on the 1st floor (level 2) of the older building. The view is certainly superb for us, and out of our surprise the room was definitely also very spacious and clean, not like many other reviewers had said otherwise. I think they were comparing this hotel to other luxury boutique hotels, but this hotel is not about luxury nor personalized services, it’s about the view and the ability to appreciate the sacred mountains of Aorangi/Mt Cook to the Māori people and Kiwis. We had the buffet breakfast at the hotel as well, the food selection was superb too. Starting a day with the food and the blue sky, snow covered mountains was really magical. The only thing we hope can improve is the price :) Before the pandemic we could get a premium room for a similar price as we paid for our standard room this time around. The Hermitage exceeded our expectations in many ways. If you are after a magical place to stay in this area, this hotel should not let you down. Thanks Hermitage for giving us a magical and memorable stay.

The staff were useless. It was if they'd never worked in hospitality before and don't have common sense. We went to the cafe twice and both times had different staff. Both times we slowly read our order one item at a time, then repeated it multiple times and they still got it completely wrong. At the restaurant they brought the wrong meals to our table and the waiter didn't pour our wine. When we checked out of the motel they tried to charge us more money because they'd only charged us for 2 people at check in, when we said we had 4. For the amount you pay here it was quite disappointing. We were also quite shocked by the price of the museum. It had always been free and I understand a small charge during covid times but $20 is excessive. You're going to turn a lot of people away at that price. On a positive note, the hotel and motel are really nice, and the food was always delicious!

We recently got stuck at the hotel during very heavy snow. The assistance and help from the staff was incredible. We had a motel room but then for the additional night were able to change to a hotel room. I like the hotel rooms better as they were equipped with bigger bottle of shampoo. I didn't bring anything with me so the tiny bottles in the motel rooms were not enough. It would be good to put the bigger bottles in the Motel rooms as these are bigger more people are likely to stay in there. Other than that, the stay was amazing. The staff were friendly and always helpful. The food was delicious and we will always come back. Thank you team for a memorable stay!

room comes with great view but very pricey. The air conditioning is centrally controlled which is very inconvenient, the room was too hot on day 1 and it doesn't allow guests to change the temperature, I called the reception to lower the temp as the room was very stuffy with 3 adults ... the lady receptionist promised to change but it didn't happen and we can't be bothered to call.again because it takes reception forever to answer the phone - we had our windows opened but it wasn't good enough, it wasn't a pleasant night. The next day was a hot sunny day and the room was roasting hot ... thankfully they then switched the temp to 18 after we complained again and finally we all had a good night. I was told the hotel was understaffed hence service was slow.however, For those I have met in the reception and the domestic cleaners , they are all friendly and welcoming. Food from the hotel is genuinely good - had both breakfast and dinner buffet, they have good vegetarian options and food is fresh. Definitely recommending their food.

Fantastic experience at the Hermitage Hotel in Mt. Cook Village. Extremely comfortable and spacious rooms. We got upgraded to a premium room with incredible views of the mountains. As for the breakfast buffet, definitely get it! It's absolutely worth the money. Unlike any other hotel breakfast I've ever had. The variety of the food was amazing -- something to satisfy everyone -- and very high quality. There seemed to be a lot going on at all times in the hotel -- in a great way. Good energy and service. The bar area was also a nice space to enjoy some wine, a signature Hermitage beer and/or a snack board. I would definitely stay here again if I find myself in the Mt. Cook area.

With covid in mind service was below 5 star expectations and experiences. 1 room had an unpleasant smelling fridge, another an ineffective shower. No guide offered or concierge services to rooms. Wait services were good to very good but systems a bit dated. Food was very good but minimalist value for money. 5 star prices with 3 star performance.

The entire Hermitage experience was by far the best holiday experience my family and I have had. The hotel rooms were so neat with stunning views! So great for small families. The buffet section was very nice too, although a little expensive, it was an experience worth remembering. Great meal options for the buffet, and an all around exquisite experience for me and my family. Booking is pretty straightforward and the team can be contacted easily via email or phone call if you ever have any query.

The location and the view was amazing. The service was great. Room was a bit tiny and bathroom slightly tiny. Recommend - get the breakfast and bed package which gives you 10% off because there’s no real other options for breakfast unless you plan to skip a meal. Breakfast was ok but not huge variety. We stayed 2 nights and both days breakfast on offer was the same. The coffee machine was a bit average. For dinner we did just one night buffet. Price is definitely a bit pricey for value but again no real other options unless you travel out of town. I found variety was better for dinner compared to breakfast. Overall a good stay with amazing views. We always got the window seats when we went to the restaurant.

Highly recommended! July 2020 was my first stay with group of friends. June 15 2023: Second stay with my sister. It was short but sweet stay. Room was warm, clean and good for 2 persons. They accommodated my request. Location and view was great. Accesible to the walks. Food was good. They have Cafe til 4pm and they have buffet breakfast and dinner. Staff are all very friendly, professional and courteous. They have parking. They are also renovating the back part building of the hotel. And that's promising.

What an amazing destination with views to die for. Loved sitting back with a drink and cheese platter on the Snowline bar. Kelsey was brilliant at check in giving us knowledgeable information for a late afternoon hike, which we did. If you are planning to go into the Sir Edmund Hillary museum, which is onsite, be aware that your entry cost allows you access for 48 hours so you can return to watch all the available shows.

Newly renovated, clean, well insulated rooms with some rooms having the mountain view. Both breakfast & buffet dinner are so delicious. My personal fave is the ribs n mango mousse coconut dessert . The staffs are so service oriented. Hotel is centrally located near the walking trails n about 2-3 mins by car. Too bad google allows max 5 stars, i think they deserve 101 stars for their excellent and attentive service. I will definitely return if i return to NZ for holiday again. My 5 year old boy loves the mountainous view at the hotel.

The Mt Cook suite was fantastic!! The view amazing!! The staff were all so helpful and so friendly! The restaurant food was awesome but the mountain views from there to die for too. The trip out to the glaciers was memorable! Special thanks to Toby - who made the trip so enjoyable and he was very informative about the history of the glacier. It was an amazing birthday gift for my husband who has always wanted to get there - and he thoroughly enjoyed it, as did I. Top marks to all the staff!!

Our premium room was spectacular with view, comfy bed and linens, robes and VERY spacious overall. Wish snacks and wine were available in mini-bar in room. Bring your own nibbles to relax and enjoy amazing views from your room! Good coffee tho! Panorama Room food was excellent! Need to change the bluish flourescent lighting and add candles for ambiance to match the incredible food! Stargazing experience was a pricey rip-off. Telescopes were not working properly. The big one was broken. They should have offered partial refund or at least apologized. The site was just off the main road and saw car headlights... So not nearly as dark as expected. BUT overall, the hiking, service , food etc were adequate.

Friendly staff. The view from my room was fabulous. The breakfast was worth getting. The shower was nice and hot. It would’ve been great if the bathtub was big enough for two people. We paid NZ$380 for an ensuite with two beds including breakfast.

Pros: Amazing location and the view from our room was incredible! Room was very warm and the bed was super comfortable The restaurant and bar are lovely and have great mountain views as well Service was impeccable Cons: The price you pay is very steep but I suppose you pay for the views Breakfast not included - for the price you pay I feel like it should be! Would certainly benefit from a pool or spa as an extra area to chill after a long day of hiking Overall: We very much enjoyed our stay and with a few minor improvements, this would've been a five star stay. Definitely recommend!

We came to eat at the dinner buffet and were thoroughly impressed by the variety and quality of food offered - needless to say in a remote location as well! We didn’t stay at the hotel but was met with the same high quality service & were seated right at the window with gorgeous views. Only minor point was that some plates were quite dirty, picked one up with chocolate syrup under it. But wouldn’t detract from the value and the experience of our visit at all.
Patty Huang — Google review
The Hotel and it's Motels are pretty nice and do have the great views most reviews mention. Staff have also all been helpful and friendly. The food is the main problem here: with a virtual monopoly, the quality is so-so and definitely overpriced. The dining area seating also seems to have a lot of food stains that I wouldn't normally care about until required to pay $65 a person to eat there. So buy groceries before driving up!
Derek Noon — Google review
Our arrival at the Hermitage was great. We were met by Eddie the duty manager and he was fantastic. We were laughing and joking the whole time. We stayed in the family rooms at the motel a short drive from the Hermitage reception and restaurant. The room was warm and clean. The next morning was snowing and we were very excited as we are from Queensland Australia. It was a stressful drive though to get to breakfast at the restaurant. We pretty much just stayed at the Edmund Hilary Cafe all day watching the snow and enjoying eating and drinking. We had the buffet breakfast and dinner each day. It was very good. Of special note was the waitress Lucy who met us each day with a cheerful countenance.

Since staying here in 2019, prior to COVID, the cost of a room per night has increased 121%. Unfortunately none of this extra cost is apparently making its way back into the hotel as the stay was less than exceptional. I suspect that this hotel skews mostly positive reviews based on the views alone, although the previous cost per night in 2019 was an easier pill to swallow given the state of the hotel now. The rooms lack any form of cooling and only feature an old style wall heating unit. Rooms are hot and stuffy and no airflow is available. Guests are instructed to open their door to ventilate the room but the presence of several ducks that have seemingly taken up pecking at room windows for food means that this is not possible. Furthermore, the immediate area outside of the room door was found to be covered in duck feces. Whilst I appreciate that not much can be done about to presence of the ducks, ensuring that fecal matter is removed from door ways in a $350 per night hotel would be appreciated and expected. The feces were clearly not fresh and we're not cleaned up at any time during my stay as part of regular cleaning schedules. The rooms are aged and the beds are unacceptable for this premium price point. I booked a king room but found that the "King" was simply two singles pushed together, which is simply not an equivalent to a proper king bed and is what I would expect from a budget motel. Furthermore the beds and pillows are on par with a 3 star hotel (I'm being generous) and far from a premium experience. The bathroom was cramped with the hand towel about 6 inches from the toilet and the towel rack directly above the toilet. The shower either could not maintain constant heat or the temperature was affected by occupants of other rooms, an issue I have never experienced before in any hotel at any price point. The walls and ceiling are paper thin and every single foot stomp from the upper floor can be heard all throughout the night so if you do stay, ensure you avoid the first floor otherwise you won't get a wink of sleep.

Absolutely superb. Our son and daughter gave us a 2-day stay as a birthday present. It was a magnificent gift as we had one of the best rooms in the Hotel with an incredible view of Aroaki (Mount Cook) from our bed set in the middle of the room and picture window. We had a magnificent time staying at the Hermitage. Our only slightly negative comment is that the high-end dining room has a limited menu and for anyone staying more than two days they would find things a little repetitive. That said there are alternative restaurants to try.

Gorgeous hotel with gorgeous views. We arrived when it rained and woke to clear skies. The view is amazing. We dined in the formal restaurant and the service was outstanding and food was great. Much better Than the dinner buffet. We upgraded our room to the 9th floor and loved it. Our room also included a complimentary breakfast buffet which was perfect. Getting a cappuccino was a bit slow, but food selection was great.

Awful hospitality. When we checked in, we were greeted by an unfriendly staff member, who gave a lot of attitude. We were not sure we had to make a “booking” for dinner at the hotel. even though we already paid for it. The staff member cut us off while speaking and insisted we had to make a booking even though we already agreed. The staff member demanded that we get him the car registration details even though the car park was 15 min away, and we literally just entered the hotel. Nice way to greet customers. The only good thing about the hotel is the view, besides that, the hotel guests are treated like cattle. The food is very average.

We have eaten at the Hermitage five times now over a few years and truly is our most favourite restaurant in the world. The views from the windows are outstanding, love seeing Mount Cook. Sitting looking out with a wonderful aperitif is just heaven, so calm and just a wonderful atmosphere. We have ate in all restaurants and all superb. This time we were with friends and had drinks and superb platters. Our New Year in the poshest restaurant area, can't remember the name, will never be forgotten, it was a once in a lifetime experience, although we are tempted to return to NZ early to go for New Year 2025. Service is always so amazing and friendly. Thank you

We stayed there on Christmas Eve. Everything is good. We booked a superior double queen bedroom with gorgeous mountain views. The room is not modern but very clean. The buffet breakfast was delicious with many food options. The buffet dinner($137 per adult) was also worth the money except that the oysters did not taste so good. All the staff are very friendly. It was hard to find a parking space. However, they managed to help us.

Great location with beautiful views and activities located in and around hotel. Helicopter and boating trips to glaciers, stargazing at night, theater with.informational movies on Mt Cook. Our room rate came with a fabulous buffet breakfast. Other dining available close by.
Cindy Wininger — Google review
You’ve gotta get a high floor (5th is lowest level). It’s a little sad to see the stunning view and stare at parking lot for half of your sight lines. Yes all rooms face the incredible mountain but pay more to get unobstructed views. The buffet is awesome and yet kind of gross to be with so many people in a dining room. Nonetheless they’re doing a great job running this place. Lastly the parking is hilariously small. There’s gotta be 25 spaces for 250 rooms - it was tough to park every time we tried.

This is a museum dedicated to the life and achievements of Sir Edmund Hillary. This is situated inside the Hermitage hotel, however is open for all visitors. Lots of information and personal artifacts from Sir's life are well kept and preserved here. A large life sized status of Sir looking at Mount Cook is an interesting and nicely curated artifact. It is another hidden gem in the area and seeming not very popular with the tourists. However it is a nice and highly recommended place. The location is really scenic and one can find variety of landscapes depending on the season of visit.
Raghav Abbhi — Google review
I had wanted to go here for years. It wasn’t what I expected, I was thinking bigger and just about Sir Hillary’s hiking expeditions. The museum was in the Hermitage Hotel. It was informative about Sir Hillary and other adventurers and half about the Hermitage Hotel and some cars that first got there in 1906. You walk in the door and can see the whole centre but can read through the displays in half an hour. There was a movie playing, I think about Sir Hillary I didn’t see any information. But it sounded interesting. There is different movies in a planetarium type room that made the $20 with it. You enter through the Hotel gift shop and buy your tickets there. The staff was friendly and helpful.

the femanle cashier with long yellow hair, who was working in the morning of 08-May-2023 (might be Johanna), didnt even want to give u one more pen to write post card even they still have a box of pens for use, no other customers here, and just talking with others. after you paid the money, she didnt want to spend more time on you and would like to spend more time to talk and laugh with each other.

Tourist trap. You spend there 20 minutes for $25. Mount Cook National Park visitor centre nearby is much better and free.

What a tourist trap! Don't bother going its literally a few vehicles some pictures and then stuff about the hotel.what a waste of money. Go to the doc museum down the road better and free!
Cassandra Sealy — Google review
Awesome museum and while some may complain about the size I think it’s about right. The entry price includes viewing for all movies including dome and good value for money in my humble opinion. A good history of the local characters, although Tenzing Norgay gets short shrift yet again in the history told here on the displays just like everywhere else - this guy carried Edmund Hillary’s stuff up Everest and yet the other guy gets most of the credit!

During our visit today at 9:00 am, the lady working as a cashier provided us with unclear information and was extremely impatient when we tried to clarify if there was any chance to reschedule our glacier explore tour. Her behavior was very rude and unprofessional towards us as customers. We were disappointed with the level of customer service we received from her.

We were only visitors for a short stay. Haven't made good use of this centre. You can get information here and can also buy supplies for the climbing the snow mountains. There' s also a museum and movie to watch. It's a pity that we didn't have time to enjoy all these. Hope I can stay a few days here next time when I came.

Awful wrap. love the scenery, but when i'm out in the cold for hours and my feet are wet, I needed a good solid wrap. Unfortunately this did not deliver, the feta to wrap ratio was entirely off ( literally an entire block's worth) and none of it tasted fresh. soggy wrap with feta and the occasional leaf If I was lucky. actually went to glenorchy the next weeks days and had a better wrap there, 10/10 for that one.
lillooly — Google review
The museum was pretty basic tbh although I liked the movie about the 1st Everest climb by Sir Edmund Hillary. I would have liked to see original climbing gear, more explanation about the Hillary Step or how they trained before going to the Himalayas here in Mt Cook. In short, it’s pretty pricey for the content but worth spending an hour or two if the weather is bad outside.
Mathieu Mailhos — Google review
The female cashier, who we suspect may be named Johanna, was extremely rude and her behavior was unacceptable. It seemed like she may have been discriminatory towards us based on our race. She definitely needs further training in customer service, as her behavior left a bad impression on us. It's hard to imagine how she can effectively train others if she can't treat customers with basic respect. For instance, when we asked for a pen to write some postcards, she flat-out refused us. However, we were able to get a pen from another staff member after she left. Overall, our experience with this cashier was disappointing and we hope the management takes steps to improve her customer service.

Small and not uninteresting museum (20 minute visit) but the price of admission is too high. It should be free for people staying overnight or a donation, maybe $5 or $10 but not $25 - you can get into the Louvre for that.
Tim V — Google review
Was excited to visit this museum, only to arrive and find out it’s $25pp. Way to expense for what it is. Should be a donation or up to $10, would make aloooot more money then too. Saw multiple other people walk away

Nice and interesting little museum. The price is very high in my opinion although you can access the place for two days and watch several interesting movies. It is very convenient if you have accommodation in mount cook village.

Had high hopes for this place and was excited to visit and learn about one of our national icons. Well, I was very disappointed!! The $65 cost for 2 adults and a child was much too expensive. Maybe tourists are happy to pay this but IMO this is a rip-off, keep the cost down!! The museum itself was fairly basic and we covered most things off in 20 minutes. The movies would be ok if you were staying in hotel and had time to watch these, we were only there for a day visit so only watched part of one movie. Gutted that my hard earned $65 went to such a wasteful experience and even more gutted that this is how we showcase one of our treasures and to top it off, we'll charge you a lot of money for the experience!! if my poor experience can save others from the same pain, then all is not lost.

Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, named after New Zealand's tallest mountain, is a breathtaking wilderness area with 40% of its land covered by glaciers. The park offers stunning vistas of Mt. Cook and Lake Pukaki, the largest lake in the region. Visitors can also explore the high-country salmon farms and enjoy fresh salmon from the alpine canals. The park boasts incredible landscapes, from snow-capped mountains to starry nights.

The Blue Lake & Tasman Glacier walk took my breath away, especially during the summer sunset. The walk features two main viewpoints: 1. Blue Lake Viewpoint (420m/10 mins) 2. Tasman Glacier Viewpoint (780m/15 mins). The views of the tranquil blue lake and majestic glacier were simply stunning, and the sunset added an extra layer of beauty to the experience. Highly recommended for anyone seeking natural beauty in New Zealand's South Island.

The white horse campground is a parking lot with toilets nothing more. The worst camp lve been to. Rocks everywhere making it difficult to park a larger caravan or motorhome

Very nice scenery, but Google map seems not putting me at a right spot. It’s about 2.5 hrs drive from Wanaka, and mostly flat or gentle slopes surfaces. Not what I would assume to be mountainous drive. Along the way, you will be able to view the snowy mountains and beautiful Lake Pukaki. There is a Mobile Petrol station along the way in case you are worried about fuel level.

New Zealand is just filled so many amazing natural wonders! Aoraki is on top of that! 👍🏼 1) Super amazing hikes available at Aoraki, we enjoyed all of them! 2) The trails are from easy to slightly challenging, mainly due to the super long walk 3) We can spend a day or more on each trail, just so superbly out of this world! 4) Great that the park prepares reasonably clean toilets 👎🏼 5) kind of short of car parking 6) Super touristy 7) Some visitors could be slightly noisy 8) Wish the park would consider having water dispenser

A beautiful place to hike. We came down from Melbourne to explore what NZ had to offer. We were blown away by the views. In September, it was cold but not freezing. There was slushy snow on the sides of the paths. We actually worked up a sweat from hiking. Unfortunately we didn't make it all the way and had to turn back... But we'll be back. The views are too amazing too see just once in a lifetime.

Although this park is super popular and crowded, it is so for a reason. And luckily if you are willing to hike off schedule (early or late) and go to more remote areas (off trail if you are comfortable or to areas that see less visitors) you can avoid most of the crowds. There is a large camp ground which is great for both tents and campers. Its first come first serve but since it doesn't have specific sites you can fit a lot of people there. Many of the trails are very well maintained. There are plenty of huts to stay in.

Very weather dependent on how good of a view you get, low cloud and fog can make it hard for the perfect photo opportunity, but when it is clear, the views are magnificent! Very peaceful, but very busy walkways.

A scenic drive leads to a just as scenic walking/hiking (very easy) trail. We went on an overcast day but it was still beautiful! A few people on the trail in the morning but that didn’t hinder our ability to walk at our own pace. Would definitely recommend as a relaxing walk. Low effort for high aesthetic value.

The Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park Visitor Centre is a must-visit destination, especially on a rainy day. It's more than just a visitor centre; it's like a museum and art gallery combined. The center showcases captivating Maori carvings, local artwork, and exhibitions that delve into the flora, fauna, and geography of the national park. The building itself is an attraction with its large picture window offering stunning views of Mount Aoraki.

The park is amazing, very beautiful views good tracks and places where tonleave the car but there is a problem: the time (how long it will take to pass the track) that is written on the boards is not really correct because it was written that track "sealy tarns" will take about 3 hours to get to the view point and back but it took us around 4 and a half hours and I would not recommend u to go on that track if u have any even little afraidness of heights because the higher u get the more open this track becomes so it can be very hard, but the park itself is very beautiful especially when there are no clouds

Love our experience here. The exhibit is amazing for a little information center tucked up in the corner. Wished we had more time, we would have spent more time reading up the exhibits. Approach the counter if you have kids. My kids love the activity sheet regarding being a Kiwi Ranger. 😊 Totally recommend as a must stop. 👍🏻

Lots of historical pieces inside, both on display and in photos. The feral cats and pests were nicely done.

All information is there. Cool place. Can buy maps and gifts Information on the walks, attractions, and activities in the park and local environs. An intention system provided for climbers and trampers to sign in when they enter and leave Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. Great New Zealand retail products are available. A booking agent for all local tourism activities. There are no banks at Aoraki/Mount Cook Village but EFTPOS facilities are available.

An amazing and spiritual place. A place where you can connect with mother nature and chill. The views are incredible!

Great visitor center of the area! Very big and nice exposition of nature and climbing around Aoraki. If you are planining a multiday trip to mountains ask if you can speak with experienced local ranger to get relevant information. Visitor center itself has poor parking capacity.

Very busy, be prepared to wait, allow maybe a full day visit from early morning till late afternoon, great scenery.

good place to visit in poor weather, a bit busy when we came as it was raining, has a gift shop and an exhibit about the history of mount cook.

Great place to learn about the history and mythology of the area. There really is something for everyone: NZ's mountaineering history, geology, animal and plant exhibits, photography and artworks, rescue operations... plus a gift shop. Spent ages just in the little room where the photo is from. Definitely got my value for money ($0 entry but donations are accepted!)

Very informative place, talks about the history of the region and wildlife that lives around it, recommend dropping by if you happen to be around the area. Admission is free.

Really enjoyed my 3 day course with Chris. Itinerary was different to the one described on the site due to the change in weather but that lead to an even greater amount of information being passed on by our guide who's knowledge was limitless. Our group was treated as beginners (with lots of patience) yet always with the feeling that we were being prepared to do bigger and better things in the future. Came away feeling much more confident but with a great respect for the mountains and nature. Recommending this company to all my adventurous friends (as well as those who might need that push to get outdoors!). For everyone.

I completed an ASC with Alpine Guides in April. Our guides Dave and Pablo were exceptional, teaching us all loads, ensuring we had fun and keeping us safe. The weather was far from perfect but Dave and Pablo were able to adapt quickly and make the most of the conditions we had both on the glacier and in the village, and despite their vast experience were always welcoming of questions and willing to show us even the most basic things. I’ve come away with a much broader skill set and greater confidence in the mountains. I would definitely recommend Alpine Guides and their Alpine Skills Course.

We had an amazing hike with Scott to the summit of Mt Sebastopol. The crew at Alpine Guides were helpful, informative and took great care to make sure we were safe and challenged. Thank you for the most memorable part of our Holiday in New Zealand.

Had a great time on the mountain experience course with guide Dave and Stella last month. The 5 day course itinerary had to be changed completely due to the weather but WOW it was definitely a mountain experience. Would recommend the course to anyone who wanted to get some more alpine experience and learn how to step up from tramping. Dave was amazing, very inspiring. Gave me lots of advice in order to plan my next adventure.

I followed the ASC course with Alpine Guides and i just had an awesome time with them. Everything is verywell organised. Very friendly and helpful staff. Highly trained guides which take very good care of you. Although the course was a bit above my level the guide had a lot of patience with me and i have learned a lot. I definitely recommend them for any mountain related activity.

My buddy and I had a great experience on a private instruction course with Jim Young from Alpine Guides. We are return customers and this experience was even better than the first course we did with Alpine Guides years ago. Jim was a brilliant instructor. He maximised the time well, working within the weather to cover all the course goals we had. Thanks mate! Looking forward to climbing with you again in the not too distant future.

My friend and I completed an introductory mountaineering course with Alpine Guides to the Mueller Hut on Mt cook Aoraki, and our guide was exceptional. Very detailed and thorough in his explanations, friendly and supportive the whole way through. I encountered issues on the way up the mountain, but felt safe and supported the entire way. I would recommend Alpine Guides to anyone looking at doing this hike

Alpine Guides was simply amazing from start to finish. In order: Prompt, efficient replies to any and all communication. Ease of payments. Fantastic pre-course notes, manual, and packing list. Our guide, Gary Dickson, was amazing, as were any other AG guides we met along the way. Great balance between teaching anything required while balancing the need for safety with not being boring or too stern. Despite the weather not being great for a few days it was more than made up for with excellent education and skills practice in the village to make sure that when we hit the mountain we were ready to go. Meals provided were great. Ample food to fuel staying active during the days. We're back in Australia and already planning our next trip back! Thanks again to AG and Gary for an amazing trip!

Alpine Guides were fantastic! I loved the immediate and hands-on approach to learning. We had 3 bluebird days at the top of the Tasman Glacier, climbed a summit, did ice climbing, and plenty of glacier travel. I had a wonderful time, making good friends along the way. Thank you Alpine Guides!

Booked an Ice Climbing tour with Sam and Maddy (we’re sorry if we got the name wrong but we love you anyways). The guides were amazing and made sure we had a great experience. Sam was really creative and made the most of the time we had. We learned a lot about ice climbing techniques and the glacier itself. If we could we would do it all over again. We would move to the glacier for you guys 🫶🏼

My son and I did a private climbing course with Jamie Robertson. A great time on all levels - great mountains, we learnt a lot, Jamie's skills and guiding can't be faulted and he's good company to boot. And not to forget the Mt Cook Village crew (thanks Arthur) who made it all seamless, including getting us into the mountains in a narrow weather window. Thanks again for a special week. Phil

Had a great week with Jim Young on Tasman Glacier. His guiding style had the perfect balance of ‘show and tell’ and ‘now you have a go’… as well as some cool Kiwi humour 😎. The weather helped too! 🏔️ ☀️

Absolutely amazing experience doing the ice trek with these guys. They gave us a very personal journey from the high up the Tasman glacier to the bottom via helicopter

I have nothing but praise for Alpine Guides. From the time that I first enquired, as a total novice, about climbing a high mountain, Arthur and his team patiently answered my, incessant questions and made helpful recommendations about timing, fitness requirements, skills required, gear and a peak to climb. When it came to the time to do the actual mountain work, my guide, Taichiro Naka, was careful to understand where I was coming from and make sure that I had the necessary skills for the task. He guided me up Tititea/ Mt Aspiring and back down, which I found more challenging than the ascent, with care and patience. Tai showed skill, knowledge, experience, care and judgement in everything we did together. I recommend Alpine Guides Aoraki without reservation.
