Cider bar
Willie Smith's Apple Shed is a charming cider bar located in Huon Valley, just 30 minutes away from the city. This establishment offers distillery tours for individuals to learn about cider and apple brandy production. Visitors can also enjoy a delicious lunch accompanied by refreshing ciders at the on-site restaurant. A gift shop is available for those who wish to purchase souvenirs or take home some of the locally sourced and fresh foods offered.
An absolute MUST DO in Tasmania. Just an easy 25 min drive from Hobart, the Cider Shed and surrounds are simply brilliant. The museum area is really interesting, and the food in the adjoining cafe is absolutely delicious! The Pork Belly w Apple salad was phenomenal...the best I have ever tasted by far! Naturally following up with the Apple Pie was a no-brainer, and it did not disappoint either. So good! The Cider tasting paddles are another great way to sample their quality product. You can sit inside with the heaters taking the chill off those cold days, or enjoy the character of the outdoor seating areas and surrounding gardens. Plan a few hours here and take it all in, you wont be disappointed.

great cider with a lot of choice (hot spiced cider was eye-opening), tasty apple liquor, very great food. apple pie wasn't as good as advertised (great ice cream though!), but the rest of the food (esp. chicken fillet with potato) was otherworldly. best roasted potatoes in my life
Niko Watari — Google review
This place was really great! Staff were so lovely and helpful! Food was divine and the cider was superb. The vibe of this place is like an old stable or barn which is linked to its history, the kitchen makes and serves fresh food so quickly and the bar staff are just as quick delivering cider paddles and tasting notes along the way. If I'm lucky l have a wedding at this place one day it's so beautiful. Must see and do in tassy, and it's so close to Hobart you can't find an excuse to miss it!!

This place was the highlight of our Tassie trip, can’t wait to return. The spirit tasting paddle was amazing with the apple pie. The cider tasting paddle was also delicious, each one tasting so different. The food was local and fresh. The shed was rustic and a great vibe.
Kyra Mackenzie — Google review
A very beautiful venue with lovely staff and delicious food! The cider paddles are very well priced considering the amount you get - $10-$15 each! It was a great opportunity for my partner and I to decide which cider to buy from their shop. We also got super comfy and affordable shirts to rep the Apple Shed! Not really family-friendly in that the kids menu is pretty limited. Overall will definitely be coming back next time we are in Tassie!

I always recommend this place to my friends from mainland or overseas. Good vibes and nice food. I had Salmon with miso sauce and it was amazing. Apple pie was bit dryer than I expected but still good. Every dishes has information of matching apple cider or beer so you can order without headaches. Definitely recommend all people who visit Tasmania!
Nina Kim — Google review
Great little touristy spot, the food was yummy, would have had more if I didn't just stop in for coffee, ended up getting the pumpkin dish. Apple pie looked amazing! 😋 Lovely selection of apple related products to take home too.
Nina Beerling (Nina) — Google review
So much to try so little time. Will be back for sure. Chicken liver pate is a stand out. As are cider tasting paddles. Top it off with their famous apple pie and you've got a slice of heaven. Snooze a bit after the wine and dine in their beer garden. So so good!
Calvin Puah — Google review
Went early as no bookings left on Friday night. Surprisingly the cider was really nice. I thought it would be sweet but no -more like beer and great taste.that really surprised us. The meals were incredible the chef can really cook cos he puts the right ingredients together that actually go together- like apple and fennel and salmon and seaweed crumb. We really enjoyed every mouthful I’ve recommended my family to this place
Tony Wickens — Google review
We reserved a table here and was amazed at the property, decor & the apple museum. We enjoyed a tasting paddle each & our main menu choices did not disappoint, they were spectacular. Although we were expecting more from the hyped up apple pie, I must say. We’d definitely be back but choice a different dessert. The service was awesome too.
Berlinda T — Google review
The food and cider here were insanely good. We came for lunch on a cold winter Sunday and were greeted with a lovely and warm room with great ambience and friendly staff. We ordered a variety of meals and not a single one disappointed (pate, beef cheek, pasta and pork belly). The cider paddles were also a great offering to sample all the options. Don’t miss the apple pie and ice cream!

This is a lovely drive from Hobart, a great place for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Willie Smith's is known for its apple cider, and you can try multiple with tasting paddles or buy a glass to enjoy. Most of the ciders are quite alcoholic, so bear that in mind when ordering. Saying that there are a number of lovely house made sodas with pink lady and rhubarb, blackcurrant and thyme amongst them. Worth a try for those who don't want to try the cider or even their non alcoholic version might be worth a go. The food menu is relatively extensive, with a number of specials on the board. Price wise it is not the cheapest, but with the atmosphere and rustic charm it is worth a go. When I've ordered a meal, the serving sizes seem to be pretty decent. I would highly recommend the prawn linguine, the roasted pumpkin for those vegetarians or a staple ham and cheese on sourdough. All have been delicious. Their cakes and apple pie are well portioned and reasonably priced. Although usually quite busy, they have indoor and outdoor seating as well as parking on site. When it's hot, there is only some relief from the sun. They also have a little shop, which has some Tasmanian products, willie smith's and also the Charles Oates distillery, some dried apple chips, jams, chutneys, tshirts amongst them. Good news is that Willie Smith's is also close to a few places nearby to buy locally grown cherries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.

Came for lunch and a Tesla charge. Every dish was outstanding. We had waffles, charcuterie board, prawn linguine, pork belly and the kids toasties. Cider paddles also good. Cherry cider was amazing. Finished off with apple pie and the spirit paddle. Staff are all super helpful, friendly and enthusiastic
Sasha Hansen — Google review
Great atmosphere and food. Apple pie was good. Ice cream even better. Tasting paddle was a great introduction to cider. Service friendly and cheerful.
Claudia — Google review
This was a great visit. I really loved the venue, felt very cozy. The pork belly braised in apple cider, with miso caramel was by far the best pork belly I’ve had. Apple pie is a must-try
Ella Windsor — Google review
Outstanding food and atmosphere on a drizzly Tassie afternoon. Fish of the day (blue eyed trevalla) exceptional, and of course you have to have the apple pie. Thanks to Sophie and her team for providing such a great customer experience, will be returning for sure!
David Matkovic — Google review
We had a delicious lunch at Willie Smith"s. We enjoyed the cider tasting pallet, the arancini with salad and the chicken fillet main meal. The chocolate brownie (GF) served warm with cream exceeded expectations. Also appreciated the random mismatched side plates and cutlery. Hopefully from an op shop! Good to see!!

What a delightful experience! The service was fantastic, the food sublime and the wine was fabulous.
Sharon RATCLIFFE — Google review
The wines here are really good, no doubt about that. The customer service though is terrible. Brash and tactless. In fact the woman was so rude my husband walked out. But put up with it and get the wine. We did a tasting at cellar door- so cannot comment on food. This was in stark contrast to a couple of previous wineries we visited prior where the service AND wines were excellent.

What a wonderful experience at Home Hill for our anniversary. 5 star service and 5 star food. Highly recommend. A must for food and wine lovers

Bakery
Summer Kitchen Bakery, located in Ranelagh near Huonville, is a charming spot owned by John Glendinning and Marie Van de Gumster. They specialize in baking organic sourdough bread using a wood-fired oven and organic flour and grains. Their must-try item is the Huon Valley Sourdough loaf made with unbleached flour, wholemeal flour, olive oil, malt, and salt.
Such a good bakery, amazing bread, awesome pastries, we also got a piece of blueberry slice but it didn’t last more 30 seconds so no photos for that one. Highly recommend stopping there if you’re driving by. You can also find their pies and bread to local IGAs as well. The lentil pie was good.
Benjamin MARDON — Google review
I highly recommended this beautiful country-style bakery. The pies are the best I’ve ever had and desserts and hot drinks are great too. The outdoor seating area is lovely and the staff are very responsive and quick with their service. It’s our new favourite spot for catching up with friends! It’s also kid/pram friendly with vegetarian options too! We returned to take home the custard tart and that was delicious!
R C — Google review
This was incredible! The food was delicious, the staff were lovely, and the seating area was so cute. We tasted the homity pie, the wallaby and potato pie, a toasted sandwich, the custard tart and the carrot cake, and all were divine. Will be recommending this place to everyone!
Fairlie Rogers — Google review
As far as bakeries go, this was pretty top notch, just one step below the superior Little Bay in Bicheno. The lentil shepherds pie was very good. The coffee wasn’t terrible (so it’s well ahead of Hobarts building reputation). The vibe in the courtyard was mostly good, despite some parents letting their kids run amok. The staff seemed just a bit stressed.
Ben Procter — Google review
My family and I were so impressed with Summer kitchen. Wonderful service, food is killer, and the coffee surprised me! Wasn’t expecting a really great cup of coffee from a bakery but they certainly nailed it. Can’t wait to go back!
Josh Weier — Google review
We really enjoyed our morning tea here with yummy fresh cakes and coffee this morning. Great atmosphere inside and out in the courtyard. Highly recommend
Sue Freestun — Google review
Insanely good bakery. Staff are wonderful, breads, cakes and pastries are exceptional (the Madras, Hunza and Homity pies are my faves). Possibly the best almond croissant I've ever had (sorry Pigeon Whole), big almond chunks, super flakey outside, slightly gooey inside.
Adrian Harris — Google review
Best carrot cake you’ll ever eat!! Generous portion size too :)
Gerard Wood — Google review
Wow.. Organic Breads, Pies and pastries made onsite. Heaps of staff to get you sorted. Fantastic coffee a fire inside and ample room for small groups and great friends. Also a great earthy vibe that heals the soul for Free.
David Lovett — Google review
Heard so much about this place. We went around 830AM on Monday. Great food indeed and love the garden seating. Coffee was ok, a tad weak to my preference. Had madras slice and apple turnover pastry. They both perfectly spiced and sugared. Great pastry!! Bought the sourdough to take home. Fingers crossed as good as everyone told us😅
O A-S — Google review
Had got best pie in Australia here, and I traveled all around, 30 000 kms and had heaps of pies, best pie for me was in new Zealand in Oscars kiwi cafe, 5 years ago and I also traveled all around New Zealand, was a gem to find this, now I am not sure which is the best, thank you!!!!! Also amazing service and atmosphere.
Kubo Medzi — Google review
Having such a delicious bakery in Tasmania is a great factor to make travel enjoyable. It's a must stop by for lunch or brunch. You'd better not expect too much just coffee. Coffee tastes burnt a lot, so I recommend milking it like a latte. And you have to visit early to taste everything.
Won Sam Seo — Google review
This place has a special place in my heart. Everything here is excellent and personally I think it's one of the best sourdoughs I have ever eaten. They do a delicious wallaby pie as well as being very vego and vegan friendly with plenty of other offerings. I enjoyed the Homity pie - so yummy. I can never go past their custard tarts for a sweet treat. I wish this place existed back home in Adelaide. Cute place to sit outside under the big tree as well.
Sylvo Mate — Google review
I went to the bakery on multiple occasions. I had the ham and cheese croissant, which was delicious and good to share! I also had an amazing oat latte that the lady made specially to my taste. Each time I went the ladies working were so friendly I felt like they were my best friends! You also must try the lemon blueberry cheesecake filled donut 🍩

I had an amazing time at House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast, despite booking on short notice. Paul, the host, was incredibly organized and showed great hospitality. The room was flawless and felt like a surreal experience. The highlight of my stay was the stunning views from the property and the opportunity to see padamelons visiting during sunset. I would love to visit again in the future as it exceeded my expectations.
We cannot recommend this beautiful place highly enough. Outstanding service, amazing views & a lovely room with our own ensuite. We had our cat with us & he was just as welcomed as we were. The owner Paul, was such a delight. We really enjoyed his company. Thank you for making us feel so welcome in your beautiful home, see you in Banjos one day. Dean, Jodie & Cat Mandu 😊

Our host (Paul) at the House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast is a very nice and warm host with a great sense of humor.
Bee Williams — Google review
Paul is a very good host. Having dinner was great. He has lots of ideas for his bed and breakfast. Was so enjoyable to actually see a host, and have conversation. The first in 7 stays to see a host! The rest in Tasmania was very inhospitable. We will return
BillMaria Maumill — Google review
Had a great time at house on the hill, even though we booked on the day Paul was super prepared and was extremely hospitable. The room was impeccable and it was like walking into a dream. The icing on the cake was the beautiful views and padamelons visiting as the sun set. Would definitely visit again, I wish I could give more stars.
Denise — Google review
My wife and I absolutely loved our stay here. It is a beautiful house in a beautiful setting with amazing hosts. The room was very well appointed with an extremely comfortable bed. Judith and Paul are very welcoming, giving a lot of attention to detail.
Mark & Sandy Anthony — Google review
From the moment you get to The House on the Hill you feel so welcomed, 6 of us enjoyed the High Tea that Judith & Paul are now offering on certain dates. It was a bleak day weather wise, but the views & Kookaburras were just wonderful. The food offered was just delicious, also the glass of bubbles and a special cocktail on arrival certainly went down well. We all really had a great time, we were certaimly looked after as Paul & Judith make sure you are really happy. After nearly 3.5hrs of continuous laughter and a great viewing of the property we had to leave. Have booked again for in the New Year for another Birthday High Tea, can't wait. Thankyou so much Paul & Judith, everyone drop by there you will thoughly enjoy every minute. The property & home is just a 6 star delight. Michelle Deveraux from Margate, Tasmania.

We booked two rooms on the weekend, my mum called several times and sent several emails beforehand. The only communication we got back in all that time was "the kettle is on". There were no instructions for late arrivals. We arrived at 10:30pm, knocking and calling and leaving messages for half an hour with a crying, screaming baby in the car only to end up driving back to Hobart. We are so completely disappointed with this experience and expect a full refund and apology. We have not yet received either.
Violeta S — Google review
Had afternoon tea at the House on the Hill today to celebrate Mother's Day, was organised by my son Ryan. From start to finish the whole experience was superb, from the glass of sparkling wine to the very nice English Breakfast Tea and all the scrummy treats in between, will definitely be returning. Beautiful views of the Huon Valley to boot! Thank you very much for making Mother's Day wonderful.

The Kiln Eatery is a charming and historic restaurant located in Ranelagh, Tasmania, just a short drive from Huonville. Visited here while passing through town and was so impressed! An amazing venue to explore and an incredible fireplace. Impressed to see plenty of vegan options on the menu and very cute petit fours. Straight up coffee too, which was delicious. Friendly and warm staff. A lovely selection of local gifts too. Highly recommend!

This is a magical spot. Beautiful views in every direction, heritage buildings, gorgeous gardens with chooks to gaze at. Oh and of course the food! We had a selection of dainty pastries and coffees but thr Japanese inspired main menu looks great. Nice to meet Caroline and watch her gin making and Aya in the restaurant. Love it!

The place is so beautiful with plenty of seating both inside, outside and upstairs. The food was delicious and filling. My 19 month old baby was having the time of his life with the food. He ate so much. The price is also affordable especially after ordering 4 different plates and beverages. We would definitely go back there

Had an absolutely superb time at The Kiln! The atmosphere and building is gorgeous, indoor fireplace for chilly days, staff were so welcoming and had a good chat - service like this is almost unheard of these days! Food was absolutely phenomenal, infact, I was in Tas for only 2 days - and went to The Kiln twice! 100% recommend.
Jayne Petzke — Google review
What an incredible experience. Jo is an incredible chef who has created a diverse menu that reflects her creative flair as well as local produce. The wine menu is incredible and beautifully curated. Beyond the menu. The Kiln is has been amazingly adapted into a restaurant venue encorpirating the original Kiln architecture. Make sure you explore the whole whole eatery. Beyond the restaurant, there’s also a bar area if you’d like to stop for a drink or even get a take away coffee and cake and explore the building. Must visit when in the Huon Valley
